- 0:00Hello and welcome back to another episode of Spy Trader !
- 0:04It is currently 6 am on Saturday , June 6th , 2026 , here in the Pacific .
- 0:10I am your host , Barnaby Bullmarket , and I am so glad you could join me for our early morning market debrief .
- 0:16We have just crossed the finish line of a truly pivotal first week of June , and it was certainly a highenergy start to the month .
- 0:23If you have been watching your portfolio , you probably noticed some significant movement .
- 0:29The broad market , as measured by the S&P 500 and tracked by instruments like the SPY or VOO ETFs , climbed 1.8 percent over the last five trading days , reaching a brand new alltime high .
- 0:44But the real heavyweight champion this week was the Nasdaq100 , which we track through the QQQ trust .
- 0:51It outperformed the rest of the pack with a 2.4 percent gain .
- 0:56This surge was powered by a massive comeback in megacap technology and some incredible breakthroughs in sovereign AI infrastructure .
- 1:04What is even more encouraging for the long term is what we are seeing in the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF , or VTI .
- 1:13This fund showed broad participation across the board , which tells us that the market rally is finally moving beyond just the big Magnificent Seven names .
- 1:24We are starting to see midcap companies get in on the action as they begin to realize productivity gains from the big AI investments made throughout 2025 .
- 1:34Now , let us dive into the news that really moved the needle .
- 1:38The defining event of the week was the June 5th Employment Situation Report .
- 1:43This was a classic Goldilocks scenario .
- 1:47The U.S.
- 1:47economy added 190,000 jobs , which was slightly below what analysts expected , and the unemployment rate ticked up just a bit to 4.1 percent .
- 1:58Investors took this as a sign of a soft landing , meaning the economy is cooling down enough to keep inflation in check but not so much that we are heading for a scary recession .
- 2:10This news sent a clear signal to the bond market .
- 2:14The iShares 20 plus Year Treasury Bond ETF , which many of you know as TLT , jumped 1.5 percent on Friday as interest rate yields fell .
- 2:24Right now , traders are pricing in an 80 percent chance that the Federal Reserve will give us a 25basis point rate cut at the July meeting .
- 2:32In the sector world , Technology remained the leader .
- 2:36The Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund , or XLK , rose 3.1 percent this week .
- 2:43We saw a lot of excitement around NVIDIA and Microsoft as they announced new partnerships for decentralized AI data centers .
- 2:51Apple also had a great week , up 2.5 percent .
- 2:55Everyone is buzzing about the Worldwide Developers Conference next week , and the rumors about a SiriQuantum integration have renewed a lot of interest in the next hardware cycle .
- 3:06Tesla also made waves , rallying 4 percent after announcing they are expanding their Megapack energy storage business across Europe .
- 3:15Meanwhile , the Financial sector , tracked by XLF , saw a 1.2 percent lift .
- 3:21Big banks like JPMorgan Chase benefited as more companies started looking to merge or acquire each other again .
- 3:28On the darker side of things , Real Estate is still feeling the pinch .
- 3:32The Vanguard Real Estate ETF , or VNQ , was flat for the week .
- 3:38High interest rates are still making it tough for people to refinance debt on big office towers in the cities .
- 3:45So , looking forward , what are our recommendations ?
- 3:48First , I suggest maintaining your core equity exposure with a focus on growth through the Invesco QQQ Trust .
- 3:55Even though the prices look high , the earnings growth of these top tech companies is still superior to everything else .
- 4:02We are moving into the deployment phase of AI , where companies are actually making money off AI software .
- 4:08Second , consider increasing your fixed income duration with the TLT ETF .
- 4:15Since we are likely at the peak of the interest rate cycle , these longterm bonds could see great price gains as rates fall .
- 4:22Third , look for some international diversification with the Vanguard FTSE Developed Markets ETF , or VEA .
- 4:31Markets in Europe and Japan are trading at a discount compared to the U.S.
- 4:36, and the European Central Bank is likely to cut rates even more aggressively than our Fed .
- 4:42Finally , for a defensive play , look at the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund , or XLV .
- 4:48Since 2026 is a midterm election year , things might get a little bumpy later this year .
- 4:54Companies like Eli Lilly continue to show strong growth in metabolic health , giving us a great opportunity for growth at a reasonable price .
- 5:02That wraps up our show for this morning .
- 5:05This has been Barnaby Bullmarket for Spy Trader .
- 5:08Have a fantastic Saturday and stay savvy out there !
