- 2:39Speaker 2: still very much real and active in the state today
- 2:44Speaker 2: and gonna be throughout the rest of the weekend, very
- 2:49Speaker 2: possibly into next week as well. I know I'm here
- 2:52Speaker 2: in rumors of some steady rain next week. But in
- 2:56Speaker 2: the meanwhile, sunshine today, much needed rain and eighty two
- 3:02Speaker 2: degrees before that cool front starts pushing in, so again
- 3:08Speaker 2: the rain late afternoon into the evening. But in the meanwhile,
- 3:12Speaker 2: beautiful vibrant sunshine out there. It is just fantastic. Tonight
- 3:17Speaker 2: rain showers and fifty five thank goodness, huh. And then
- 3:22Speaker 2: tomorrow clouds and sun sixty one Thursday, sunshine fifty three.
- 3:28Speaker 2: The second anniversary today October seventh, of the Hamas attack
- 3:33Speaker 2: that killed twelve hundred people on this one day, in
- 3:37Speaker 2: a matter of literally hours. President Trump says that he's
- 3:42Speaker 2: the ultimate deal maker, and I'm asking you Facebook question
- 3:46Speaker 2: of the day. Can he get the deal done? Wouldn't
- 3:50Speaker 2: it be amazing if that were to happen on the
- 3:53Speaker 2: second anniversary? Incredible? So hop on and share your thoughts
- 3:58Speaker 2: on that. Twentive twenty six NHL regular season going to
- 4:05Speaker 2: be kicking off tonight. A lot of people excited about that.
- 4:08Speaker 2: All thirty two teams have their previews, their predictions all
- 4:13Speaker 2: over the internet this morning. Also big news from the
- 4:18Speaker 2: James camp. Lebron James supposed to be making a major
- 4:23Speaker 2: announcement today at twelve noon Eastern Standard time. Speculated to
- 4:30Speaker 2: be about his basketball future, obviously, but that is coming
- 4:35Speaker 2: at twelve noon today and we're going to be letting
- 4:38Speaker 2: you know about it pretty much the second that we
- 4:41Speaker 2: know about it. I want to bring on my guest
- 4:45Speaker 2: this morning. This guy just chatting with him off the air.
- 4:49Speaker 2: What a great dude you are, Kelton Bogaski. How are you? Man?
- 4:53Speaker 2: I am, I'm so honored to have met you. Finally
- 4:57Speaker 2: doing very well.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Thank you for having me on JD.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Dude, you are like you're so like, yeah, let's go maybe,
- 5:02Speaker 2: let's do this thing from Cassela And we're talking about
- 5:06Speaker 2: wheels for warmth this morning. This is when is this? Now?
- 5:10Speaker 2: We're a couple of weeks away.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Yeah, we're coming up and you're talking about rain there,
- 5:14Speaker 4: So I'm like crossing my fingers that we don't get
- 5:16Speaker 4: rain or snow. But end of October here twenty third,
- 5:19Speaker 4: twenty fourth, we got our collection events and Saturday the
- 5:22Speaker 4: twenty fifth we got our tire sales.
- 5:24Speaker 2: The twenty fifth is going to be insane, always is
- 5:29Speaker 2: all right? Collection is when now twenty third, twenty fourth yep.
- 5:34Speaker 2: And then the twenty fifth is the big sale yep.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Right at the Barry Granite Museum there.
- 5:41Speaker 2: This thing has turned into a monster. Twenty years. We're
- 5:51Speaker 2: celebrating this year. Twenty years. It is so huge, and
- 5:57Speaker 2: the scary thing is is it's growing like every single year.
- 6:01Speaker 2: And now let's going to break the news about what's
- 6:04Speaker 2: going on in the Kingdom.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Man, Yeah, we got a new location this year, a
- 6:07Speaker 4: new tire collection location and Linden's we've had the Northeast
- 6:10Speaker 4: Kingdom Community Action has stepped up, reached out and said, hey,
- 6:13Speaker 4: how do we get involved, So they want to do
- 6:15Speaker 4: another collection site and you know, hopefully we'll do a
- 6:18Speaker 4: tire sale because you know, everyone needs the heating assistance,
- 6:21Speaker 4: but Northeast Kingdom as well. So we're actually doing it
- 6:23Speaker 4: at Caulkins Sand and Gravel in Linden.
- 6:25Speaker 2: All right, wow, yeah, So twenty third and twenty fourth
- 6:30Speaker 2: can be busy up there.
- 6:31Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, it's gonna be you know, big tire collection
- 6:33Speaker 4: events there. We'll bring in those tires, the good tires
- 6:36Speaker 4: to either the tire sale and Barry or Rutland, depending
- 6:39Speaker 4: on who has the greater need, based on sure how
- 6:42Speaker 4: the collection events go there.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Who honestly doesn't have some tires right now in their barn,
- 6:51Speaker 2: in their garage, in their yard taking up space. I mean,
- 6:57Speaker 2: my god, everybody does.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Man.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Yeah, no, it's a great way to get you know,
- 7:02Speaker 4: good or bad. You know, we'll take them and the
- 7:04Speaker 4: money gets donated, so you know, you're donating bad tires
- 7:07Speaker 4: that have no more life than them. It's five dollars
- 7:09Speaker 4: a tire for regular tires, ten dollars for truck tires,
- 7:12Speaker 4: and all that money gets donated by cassella four disposal,
- 7:16Speaker 4: so we take we take the cost of disposal, and
- 7:18Speaker 4: all of that money goes to heating assistance. But if
- 7:21Speaker 4: you have good tires, and we have DMB inspecting at
- 7:23Speaker 4: all of our collection sites, if they're good, we'll give
- 7:26Speaker 4: them another life. So we'll sell them at the tire sales,
- 7:29Speaker 4: take them for free, give you a donation receipt that
- 7:31Speaker 4: you can use for your taxes.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Wow.
- 7:33Speaker 4: So you know, great, great way either way. If you have,
- 7:36Speaker 4: you know, tires for an old car you no longer have,
- 7:38Speaker 4: or again that pair you've been sure you know, looking
- 7:41Speaker 4: to get rid of for a while.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Here's the thing, man, you know, with the kayak and
- 7:46Speaker 2: everything else, that we don't have room anymore. Just store
- 7:51Speaker 2: these acts, even if they're good tires. Man, Yeah, get
- 7:54Speaker 2: rid of them, even if they're good. You know where
- 7:57Speaker 2: your money is going, and you're going to be saving
- 8:00Speaker 2: some space inside.
- 8:03Speaker 4: Selection events near everybody. You know, we try to be
- 8:06Speaker 4: as many places as we can be around the state
- 8:08Speaker 4: of Vermont. So you know you can check us out
- 8:11Speaker 4: on Facebook to check out where those donation sites are
- 8:14Speaker 4: or instagrama. But we try to be as close to
- 8:17Speaker 4: everybody to make it easy to drop off your tires.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Sure. Sure, what is your your story? What is your title?
- 8:26Speaker 2: How long have you been with Cassella?
- 8:28Speaker 4: Yes, I've been with Cassella that might be seven or
- 8:31Speaker 4: eight years now. I'm the area sales manager for Vermont,
- 8:35Speaker 4: So I work with all of our large customers around
- 8:38Speaker 4: the state, work with our sellers. You know, we're constantly
- 8:41Speaker 4: doing education around how we're handling and diverting material, whether
- 8:45Speaker 4: it's our depackaging facility or you know handling special way
- 8:49Speaker 4: specialized recycling with manufacturers. So, you know, I had the
- 8:53Speaker 4: best job ever. I get to work with people all
- 8:54Speaker 4: over Vermont. I get to work with our awesome sales team,
- 8:58Speaker 4: which really means just the lotion's account managers. So how
- 9:01Speaker 4: do we you know, how do we divert material from
- 9:03Speaker 4: the landfill? Big success story around mattresses that I honestly
- 9:07Speaker 4: could come on talk another time. The amount of mattresses
- 9:09Speaker 4: we've diverted from the landfill.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Yeah, crazy, really, Yeah.
- 9:14Speaker 4: We have one transfer station that's sending about three truckloads worth.
- 9:18Speaker 4: The mattresses to be recycled a week a week, a week,
- 9:22Speaker 4: so you know, it's about three hundred mattresses and a trailer.
- 9:24Speaker 4: So uh, you know, we get rid of a lot
- 9:26Speaker 4: of mattresses and we're trying to save that space in
- 9:28Speaker 4: the landfill since we have one in Vermont.
- 9:31Speaker 3: You know, tire's another thing.
- 9:32Speaker 4: You know, we want to put them to the highest
- 9:34Speaker 4: and best use, so you know, if we can reuse them,
- 9:37Speaker 4: I mean, that's the number one at the top, there
- 9:38Speaker 4: is reuse before disposal.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Yeah. You know, every single year I talk about wheels
- 9:45Speaker 2: for warmth, and every year I'm my eyebrows always shoot
- 9:51Speaker 2: up when I see the numbers. This is such a
- 9:56Speaker 2: multi tiered win situation for so many for our state.
- 10:04Speaker 2: But look at twenty seven thousand tires sold in twenty years,
- 10:16Speaker 2: nineteen years. Yeah, crazy, how many recycled. We've recycled fifty
- 10:24Speaker 2: three thousand tires. Fifty three thousand. That is absolutely staggering. Yeah,
- 10:34Speaker 2: and I've said this in the past, like other states
- 10:40Speaker 2: have got to be seeing stuff like this and saying,
- 10:43Speaker 2: holy crap, what are they doing. In Vermont, they got
- 10:47Speaker 2: it figured out.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Yeah, we're lucky to have Phil who started this.
- 10:51Speaker 4: I mean that's yeah, that's what it comes down to,
- 10:53Speaker 4: is him, you know, stepping up and creating an event
- 10:55Speaker 4: like this that's grown, you know, and I think the
- 10:57Speaker 4: big piece, you know we were talking about before the
- 10:59Speaker 4: you know, we've raised eight hundred and fifteen thousand dollars
- 11:03Speaker 4: for heating assistance and for my eight hundred you know,
- 11:05Speaker 4: and a goal. You know, we're getting close to that million.
- 11:08Speaker 4: So come out, donate your tires, come to the tire sale.
- 11:12Speaker 4: You know, we take just donations too.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:15Speaker 4: Again, this is for eating assistance, So yeah, of course
- 11:17Speaker 4: she has a lot of great local organizations that you know,
- 11:19Speaker 4: get this out to vermonitors in need. And yeah, you know,
- 11:22Speaker 4: i'd say now more than ever with everything going on
- 11:24Speaker 4: in the world, people people need to help. Yeah, so
- 11:28Speaker 4: it's a really good cause and you're helping your neighbors here.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a great point, uh to mention. You can
- 11:34Speaker 2: make a donation online. I think it's just wheels for
- 11:38Speaker 2: warmth dot com. Yep. But if even even if you're
- 11:42Speaker 2: all good, you're all set, you got your tires, you're
- 11:44Speaker 2: you're you're good to go, just pull in and make
- 11:47Speaker 2: a donation. You know where, you know where it's going.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll be in Wilston both days.
- 11:51Speaker 4: Happy to see anybody who wants to stuff into our
- 11:54Speaker 4: tire collection and drop off some some money for a donation.
- 11:57Speaker 2: This is something that Dick, while be was was telling me,
- 12:01Speaker 2: kind of started on the back of a napkin when
- 12:06Speaker 2: he was up having some lunch. I think up at
- 12:10Speaker 2: h up at Maplewoods with Wayne Lamberton and Phil Scott
- 12:18Speaker 2: and the three of them were kind of sitting around
- 12:21Speaker 2: sipping on some coffee, and I think it was I
- 12:24Speaker 2: think it was Phil's idea to come up with some
- 12:28Speaker 2: kind of tire sale, and of course you get Wabi
- 12:31Speaker 2: in the mix and look out, man, I mean we
- 12:34Speaker 2: go from from zero to nuclear in a matter of seconds.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Yeah. He keeps us moving, I mean he is. He
- 12:42Speaker 3: is fantastic.
- 12:43Speaker 4: And Erica is running the event this year, Erica Scott,
- 12:46Speaker 4: and she's doing a fantastic job, you know, keeping everyone moving,
- 12:50Speaker 4: keeping keeping me in line, making sure we're getting all
- 12:52Speaker 4: of our stuff done, you know, the trucking and getting
- 12:54Speaker 4: the tires moved to the right event. So she's just
- 12:57Speaker 4: shouting her out, doing a fantastic job.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Uh, this is there's so many moving parts here. This
- 13:04Speaker 2: is this is not anything that is a simple task.
- 13:08Speaker 2: This is really turned into Yeah, are quite an event.
- 13:14Speaker 4: Our operations team and our drivers, our operations managers dispatchers
- 13:18Speaker 4: have to shut them out for making sure we have
- 13:20Speaker 4: the driver hours to move the tires after these events close,
- 13:23Speaker 4: get them where they need to be on you know,
- 13:25Speaker 4: on the Friday, at the end of the tires sale,
- 13:27Speaker 4: at the end of the pickups, we got to bring
- 13:29Speaker 4: these tires to the right location. So, you know, shout
- 13:32Speaker 4: out to all of our you know, entire operations team.
- 13:34Speaker 4: I know Cassel Construction does a lot as well down
- 13:37Speaker 4: in the Rutland area.
- 13:39Speaker 2: At the at the end of the day, I mean
- 13:42Speaker 2: the pardon the pun here, but the buck really stops
- 13:45Speaker 2: with the folks Vermonters that need some help with their
- 13:52Speaker 2: fuel bills, especially the.
- 13:56Speaker 4: Elderly, yeah, or need cheap tires. I mean that's as
- 13:59Speaker 4: you said, we called a win win win event. Yeah,
- 14:02Speaker 4: you know, I got the rates here.
- 14:04Speaker 2: I mean keeping them out of landfills, keeping them out
- 14:06Speaker 2: of the rivers and streams.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Go ahead, yeah, I mean where else can you buy
- 14:10Speaker 4: you know, our fifteen inch tires or fifteen per tire
- 14:12Speaker 4: sixteen inch, twenty dollars a tire, seventeen twenty five and
- 14:15Speaker 4: then eighteen larger thirty dollars a tire. I mean, you know,
- 14:18Speaker 4: tires are running up to one thousand dollars for a
- 14:20Speaker 4: set nowadays, and you can buy one for under one hundred.
- 14:23Speaker 3: You could buy a set of tires itself.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Life in them I remember, I remember broadcasting Life down
- 14:31Speaker 2: in Rutland on Route four a couple of years. But
- 14:35Speaker 2: also remember just waiting out in the in the dark,
- 14:43Speaker 2: with in the snow, yeah, with so many other people,
- 14:48Speaker 2: and you think, you think you're getting there early enough
- 14:52Speaker 2: just because it's dark. But you pull in and you
- 14:55Speaker 2: see hundreds of people waiting in line, waiting for the
- 14:58Speaker 2: for the gate to open.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:00Speaker 4: And I swear every year in the spirit of the event,
- 15:02Speaker 4: it is raining or snowing or windy. I mean, you've
- 15:07Speaker 4: been to the events, You've seen it, and it's you know,
- 15:09Speaker 4: I think it's fantastic that so many people show up.
- 15:12Speaker 3: It shows that there is a need for cheap tires.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, and people people need to put tires
- 15:17Speaker 4: on their vehicle that they can operate them safely. They're
- 15:19Speaker 4: all d MB inspected. Dmb's looking at them making sure,
- 15:23Speaker 4: hey these still would pass an inspection?
- 15:25Speaker 3: Still have lifeish?
- 15:26Speaker 2: Sure? Yeah I had. I'll never forget this was was
- 15:32Speaker 2: way over it the construction company that I walked away
- 15:40Speaker 2: with four. I'll never forget this four seemingly brand new Hakapolitas.
- 15:49Speaker 2: And there were eighty bucks and you know, just throw
- 15:56Speaker 2: the Benjamin at it, you know, and and keep the change. Man.
- 16:01Speaker 2: It's like, you know, one hundred bucks for for for Hakapolitas.
- 16:06Speaker 2: I mean, it's crazy, dude.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Yeah, well it gets.
- 16:09Speaker 4: I mean after ten o'clock on the tire sale days,
- 16:11Speaker 4: we knock everything down in half. And right, you know,
- 16:14Speaker 4: obviously people come early. We just talked about that, there's
- 16:17Speaker 4: a good crowd early. But you know, if you could
- 16:20Speaker 4: still find good tires later, so stop by even if
- 16:23Speaker 4: you can't make it for that first thing in the morning,
- 16:24Speaker 4: stop by and after ten they are half price, and
- 16:28Speaker 4: you know it's get. You know, you could be down
- 16:30Speaker 4: at fifty bucks for a set of tar sure.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Right, So now is there someone that's that's doing serving
- 16:36Speaker 2: up donuts and whatnot?
- 16:38Speaker 4: Oh yeah, we got we got all sorts of coffee donuts.
- 16:41Speaker 4: We have incredible business sponsors. I mean I could name
- 16:46Speaker 4: them all. You got East Rides who does a great job.
- 16:48Speaker 4: Uh Jet Jet Services who does a lot of the printing,
- 16:53Speaker 4: AGC with Wabbi, the Granite Museum letting us use their site,
- 16:57Speaker 4: Cassel Construction Norwich, the Department Motor vehicles coming out and
- 17:02Speaker 4: coming out on the inspecting the tires. Really want to
- 17:04Speaker 4: shout them out. Eighty A traffic control, you know, providing
- 17:08Speaker 4: some safety for this event. You know, we have a
- 17:10Speaker 4: lot of traffic that we create, which is good. Sun
- 17:13Speaker 4: Belt donates all of the.
- 17:16Speaker 3: All of the.
- 17:18Speaker 4: The stuff we need the lights for the event, so
- 17:20Speaker 4: that's lit up in the morning. The radio group Radio
- 17:24Speaker 4: Vermont Group, wde V.
- 17:26Speaker 2: And then always there man.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:29Speaker 4: And then you have the great organizations that put this
- 17:30Speaker 4: money out into the communities. You know, you got c
- 17:34Speaker 4: v O EO caps On Community Action of Center of
- 17:37Speaker 4: Vermont b r O C for Bennington and Rutland Counties
- 17:41Speaker 4: and now Northeast Kingdom Community Action stepping up to the
- 17:44Speaker 4: plate saying, hey what about us, let's get this in
- 17:47Speaker 4: our neck of the woods.
- 17:48Speaker 2: That's really really cool that the Kingdom is getting into
- 17:53Speaker 2: this now. So so Berry Stowe, Williston Linden.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Verry Stow. Yeah, and then Pittsford and Pittsford.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Okay, those are all collection points. The actual sale is
- 18:12Speaker 2: going to be here in the Granite City and where
- 18:15Speaker 2: else Williston.
- 18:16Speaker 4: No, the other sale will be down at u in Rutland, Rutland.
- 18:20Speaker 4: So and that and that kind of meets the two
- 18:21Speaker 4: the two parts of the stay. And that's you know,
- 18:23Speaker 4: we get a good number of tires, so we try
- 18:25Speaker 4: to center them on two locations.
- 18:27Speaker 2: That's it. Yeah. Wow, Let's let's give a shout out
- 18:33Speaker 2: to Kenny Ghostland too. He's always there. I don't think
- 18:38Speaker 2: he's frankly ever missed a year.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Well, and he'll be running the grill too, so you
- 18:43Speaker 4: know he he's always out on the grill cooking up
- 18:45Speaker 4: some burgers for everybody.
- 18:47Speaker 3: It's great to see him out there.
- 18:48Speaker 2: He is so talented on the grill. If you ever
- 18:51Speaker 2: see that guy cook a hot dog, I mean, it's unbelievable.
- 18:55Speaker 2: He's he's a natural chef, he really is. Who else
- 19:01Speaker 2: will Phil be there?
- 19:03Speaker 4: Phil shouldn't be there on He typically comes out on Saturday.
- 19:06Speaker 4: I know we have some of his cabinets. Alex Ferrell
- 19:09Speaker 4: usually is there Commissioner Housing, which is great.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Think about Phil is that Governor Scott I should be
- 19:17Speaker 2: more respectful that I still think of him as Phil though,
- 19:22Speaker 2: is that he doesn't show up with anything with the
- 19:27Speaker 2: white gloves on at all. No, he prefers to have
- 19:31Speaker 2: dirt under the fingernails. The guy rolls up his shirt
- 19:35Speaker 2: sleeves every single time he shows up an event and
- 19:38Speaker 2: gets involved and helped out.
- 19:40Speaker 4: Yeah, he'll buy tires. He might be the one carrying
- 19:41Speaker 4: him helping you carry them to your car. Yeah, so
- 19:44Speaker 4: you know that's That's the cool thing is he shows
- 19:46Speaker 4: up and every year and.
- 19:47Speaker 2: He gets the security detail carrying tires too.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Yeah, they'll be behind him carrying carrying another four set
- 19:53Speaker 3: of tires.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Well crazy. What else I want to make sure that
- 19:58Speaker 2: we're hitting everything on what you've got here for notes.
- 20:02Speaker 2: I mean, there are so many communities and people to
- 20:05Speaker 2: think there's volunteers yea that get involved with this.
- 20:09Speaker 4: It gave me some pretty cool stats on volunteers actually,
- 20:11Speaker 4: what you're saying on that. So we've had over one
- 20:14Speaker 4: hundred and twenty companies and organizations volunteer over the years
- 20:17Speaker 4: and resulting in over twenty five thousand volunteer hours and
- 20:21Speaker 4: that's eleven hundred volunteers contributing time. So you know, we're
- 20:24Speaker 4: constantly having people step step up. I know at the
- 20:27Speaker 4: site in Wilson, Running Dealer dot Com reached out saying, hey,
- 20:30Speaker 4: how do we get involved.
- 20:31Speaker 3: In this event? You know, I know I'm missing some people,
- 20:35Speaker 3: you know. Nice part.
- 20:36Speaker 4: I also stopped and picked up the Times Argus, which
- 20:39Speaker 4: is great. So this is today's right in the community news.
- 20:41Speaker 4: You can find some more information about Wheels for Warmth.
- 20:44Speaker 4: So that was a nice a nice fine love seeing
- 20:46Speaker 4: that getting out there to the community.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it was STICKWOPI that was telling me
- 20:53Speaker 2: that this has garnered some attention beyond the region. Now
- 20:58Speaker 2: this is almost turned into like we've had some national
- 21:04Speaker 2: recognition on what we're doing here in this little, this
- 21:08Speaker 2: little Green Mountain state. Man, it's unreal. Yeah.
- 21:11Speaker 4: We actually we have Kate at Green Up Vermont who's
- 21:14Speaker 4: also involved in the organization wheels because they tie together.
- 21:18Speaker 4: I mean, we're everywhere pulling tires out of our rivers,
- 21:21Speaker 4: of course on the sides of the road, so hey,
- 21:23Speaker 4: how can we have an affordable way for Vermoners to
- 21:25Speaker 4: get rid of their tires?
- 21:26Speaker 3: Yeah, so they're not ending up in the river. So
- 21:29Speaker 3: she's she's done a great job.
- 21:31Speaker 4: She's the one who connected me with Dealer dot Com
- 21:33Speaker 4: actually for getting them involved.
- 21:34Speaker 3: So you know, it's nice to.
- 21:36Speaker 4: See those two, you know, two things that really set
- 21:38Speaker 4: Vermont apart coming together to make a bigger impact.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Kelton Bogaski is our guest this morning Wheels for Warmth,
- 21:47Speaker 2: which is coming up on the twenty fifth, that's the
- 21:51Speaker 2: the sale day. The collection days are going to be
- 21:54Speaker 2: on the twenty third and twenty fourth in barry Stowe, Williston,
- 22:00Speaker 2: Linden and Pittsford. So the time to start thinking about
- 22:03Speaker 2: getting your tires together, whether they're they're junk or or
- 22:09Speaker 2: whether they're kind of on the margin, whether or not
- 22:12Speaker 2: they can be used or not. Bring them to one
- 22:16Speaker 2: of these collection points and they will tell you they will.
- 22:19Speaker 2: They'll have dot officials there that are gonna let.
- 22:23Speaker 3: You know, yeah, I mean you get rid of them.
- 22:26Speaker 4: Yeah, thank you, I mean thank you for giving some
- 22:30Speaker 4: life to this as well and getting the word out
- 22:32Speaker 4: because that's you know, how we've made such a big
- 22:34Speaker 4: impact is you know, just like yourself, you've been involved
- 22:37Speaker 4: for years and you know, getting involved just helping us
- 22:40Speaker 4: get the word out. We really want this to be
- 22:42Speaker 4: a big, a big, big event where we can make
- 22:45Speaker 4: as big of an impact as possible and hopefully get
- 22:46Speaker 4: over a million dollars.
- 22:47Speaker 2: I mean that's yeah, or so close we're yeah, we're
- 22:50Speaker 2: within reach of that. You said eight hundred and fifteen
- 22:53Speaker 2: thousand dollars so far yep, yeap in nineteen years.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Yeah, so this is this is year twenty.
- 22:58Speaker 4: I mean, you could help us get over that million
- 23:00Speaker 4: million dollar mark and oh man, it's needed more than
- 23:04Speaker 4: now than ever two Again, it's you know, that's you
- 23:06Speaker 4: can't emphasize that enough. Where the money goes is, you know,
- 23:09Speaker 4: really it's a lot of people working hard for the
- 23:11Speaker 4: heating assistance for your fellow neighbors.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Here's here's the uh, here's like the absolute worst case scenario.
- 23:22Speaker 2: You get the four tires loaded into your car, you
- 23:26Speaker 2: drive them over to the collection point, they have a
- 23:30Speaker 2: look at them, and they say, nope, uh, they're they're
- 23:35Speaker 2: not roadworthy. You throw twenty bucks into the Vermont Fuel
- 23:42Speaker 2: Assistance program, and you get to drive home without those
- 23:48Speaker 2: tires in the trunk of your of your car or
- 23:51Speaker 2: the back seat or the back of you pick up
- 23:54Speaker 2: and you've you've saved that space at at your at
- 23:57Speaker 2: your home, and you've helped out the heating assistance program.
- 24:03Speaker 2: That's worst case scenario.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it's fantastic. And I think I just just
- 24:08Speaker 3: to mention the hours I was thinking.
- 24:09Speaker 4: I don't know if we've done that, but at most
- 24:11Speaker 4: of the collection sites we do two to six pm,
- 24:14Speaker 4: so we try to get a little bit of time
- 24:15Speaker 4: for people who are getting out of work later. But
- 24:18Speaker 4: I know at Stowe, the events field there and Caulkin
- 24:23Speaker 4: Sand and Gravel, we do one to five and that's
- 24:27Speaker 4: just given us time to move the tires to the
- 24:30Speaker 4: tire sale. So trucking wise, what about Williston and Pittsford
- 24:33Speaker 4: two to six? For Wilston, Barry and Pittsford we do
- 24:37Speaker 4: two to six and that's just for the tire collection. Again,
- 24:40Speaker 4: the tire sales starts. I don't know if I have that.
- 24:43Speaker 4: Let's see right here eight am to twelve pm in
- 24:48Speaker 4: Burry and Rutland.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Rutland one more time with that eight am.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Eight am to noon and all the tires go right
- 24:58Speaker 4: halfway through that at ten am they all go drop
- 25:01Speaker 4: down half price. So we really want to all the
- 25:03Speaker 4: good tires. We want someone to you know, walk away
- 25:06Speaker 4: with the good set tires that they can use.
- 25:08Speaker 2: And you were telling me that that there's some guy
- 25:12Speaker 2: that is like, nope, I'm snagging all the tires that
- 25:16Speaker 2: are left.
- 25:17Speaker 4: Yes, we you know, for the past few years, and
- 25:19Speaker 4: I'm hoping he buys him this year, buys all at
- 25:22Speaker 4: the end of the event. You know, he'll buy all
- 25:24Speaker 4: them for a bulk rate so that we can still
- 25:26Speaker 4: have all the tires go and get a second life
- 25:29Speaker 4: and then he'll sell them.
- 25:30Speaker 2: That's something else.
- 25:31Speaker 4: Man. He approached us one year, he just gave up
- 25:33Speaker 4: one year at us and said, hey, would you be
- 25:35Speaker 4: willing to do this? And and again it's a good
- 25:37Speaker 4: you know, giving the second life to the tires is
- 25:39Speaker 4: really the goal, the second one of the goals of
- 25:41Speaker 4: this organization.
- 25:42Speaker 3: So it's a it's a good good use for him.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Shout out to the UH to the to the Granite
- 25:48Speaker 2: Museum right here in Barry, because ye haven't been there
- 25:54Speaker 2: that long. I mean it's only been what a couple
- 25:56Speaker 2: of years, I think.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Yeah, they stepped up and gave us that incredible sight
- 26:00Speaker 4: to use for this event every year. So really, oh,
- 26:02Speaker 4: it's I mean, it's it's a big site for that.
- 26:05Speaker 3: You know, we have the parking.
- 26:07Speaker 4: I mean it is still the parking gets full, so
- 26:10Speaker 4: it's a good thing. We have ada out there, yeah,
- 26:11Speaker 4: you know, directing people. But it's it's such a great
- 26:15Speaker 4: site and we're so grateful that they let us use
- 26:17Speaker 4: that site.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Twenty fifth that's a Saturday. Yes, always on a Saturday
- 26:23Speaker 2: for sale day.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Always on Saturday.
- 26:25Speaker 2: What time do you think people start lining? Oh?
- 26:28Speaker 3: I always think.
- 26:29Speaker 4: I get there at like five am, and there's already
- 26:33Speaker 4: a line at five am, and I'm getting there to
- 26:35Speaker 4: you know, get every help, get everything set up, and
- 26:37Speaker 4: it's it's pretty incredible to see. I was talking to
- 26:42Speaker 4: somebody and they're like, yeah, I got there. You know,
- 26:43Speaker 4: I thought I was gonna be good. I got there
- 26:45Speaker 4: at five am and I couldn't believe how many people
- 26:47Speaker 4: are already there. You know, I got to get up
- 26:49Speaker 4: earlier next year, so it really is. You know, there's
- 26:52Speaker 4: a huge line. The second we opened the gates, people
- 26:55Speaker 4: flood right in. Try to find a good set of tires.
- 26:57Speaker 4: We have them all organized by sizes, so hopefully people
- 27:00Speaker 4: can find them quicker. We do have people who can
- 27:02Speaker 4: help you out if you're not sure, Hey, this is
- 27:05Speaker 4: what my car is is the tires, we can look
- 27:07Speaker 4: it up, try to help you find a good set
- 27:09Speaker 4: of tires.
- 27:10Speaker 3: So we have a lot of volunteers.
- 27:11Speaker 4: Usually the Norwich Women's ice hockey team comes out and
- 27:15Speaker 4: volunteers and they are incredible. They are dragging tires. They
- 27:21Speaker 4: are the hardest working people at the event.
- 27:24Speaker 3: Every year.
- 27:26Speaker 4: We love having them involved, so it's it's always great
- 27:29Speaker 4: to see them out there bringing the tires, moving them around.
- 27:32Speaker 4: They never use the wheel carts. They always got like
- 27:34Speaker 4: what two on either arm, So it's pretty pretty fun.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Insane. That's insane. Anyone else that that is that's out
- 27:42Speaker 2: there volunteering that you can think of?
- 27:44Speaker 4: Oh, I can't think of it at the moment. There
- 27:47Speaker 4: are so many organizations that get involved.
- 27:49Speaker 2: So I wish I've seen the Scouts there too.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Yeah, the Scouts get involved, and you know, every year,
- 27:55Speaker 4: it's just I feel like it grows on who you know,
- 27:57Speaker 4: who wants to get involved and once people come the
- 27:59Speaker 4: first year, they have so much fun.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Yeah, that's like, how do I do this every year?
- 28:03Speaker 3: How do I keep coming back?
- 28:04Speaker 2: It's amazing to see all of the vehicles there to
- 28:10Speaker 2: see all of these. I see trucks in there. I
- 28:13Speaker 2: see people just constantly moving tires around. No one is
- 28:19Speaker 2: standing around on their cell phones. I mean, there's just
- 28:22Speaker 2: no time for it. I mean, this isn't anything that
- 28:26Speaker 2: goes on all day long on the twenty fifth, I
- 28:30Speaker 2: mean from eight till noon, is it? And we're how
- 28:33Speaker 2: many times? How many tires do you think will move
- 28:37Speaker 2: between eight and noon? Just from Barry? I mean if
- 28:42Speaker 2: you had a.
- 28:42Speaker 4: Guess, I mean, just looking at the numbers, I mean
- 28:45Speaker 4: we've done you know, we've moved over a thousand you
- 28:49Speaker 4: know a year, you know, with the twenty seven thousand
- 28:53Speaker 4: good tires donated, so you know, hopefully hopefully a thousand
- 28:56Speaker 4: at each site. We're moving the tires, the good tires.
- 28:58Speaker 4: And then you also have the eye department there. You know,
- 29:01Speaker 4: we talked about it cutting off the h the walls
- 29:04Speaker 4: of the tires so they can use them at a
- 29:06Speaker 4: on farms. So that's also a great you know, great
- 29:09Speaker 4: second use to some of those some of those tires.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Yeah, they're doing this right there on site, which is
- 29:16Speaker 2: so it's well smart. Yeah, they're they're like and that
- 29:21Speaker 2: just started a couple of years ago, just.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Started a couple of years ago.
- 29:24Speaker 4: They take all the bad tires and you know, just
- 29:25Speaker 4: take the walls so that I think farms used to
- 29:28Speaker 4: use full tires, but now these are easier to stack
- 29:30Speaker 4: up when you're not using them, they still give you
- 29:33Speaker 4: the weight on top of your your piles that you need.
- 29:36Speaker 2: I've got tires out on my front lawn there for sale.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Pretty soon they're gonna they're probably going to go for free.
- 29:47Speaker 2: And if they're still there on the on the twenty third,
- 29:52Speaker 2: they're coming to you. Guys. I love that, you know,
- 29:56Speaker 2: I mean it's like, who doesn't you see tires everywhere
- 29:59Speaker 2: people is selling them.
- 30:03Speaker 3: You know, you could write that off as a donation.
- 30:06Speaker 4: If they're good tires, you can write that off for
- 30:08Speaker 4: you know, the value there of the donation that you're
- 30:10Speaker 4: making to to an organization that will give you a
- 30:13Speaker 4: donation slip right when you.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Drop them off. Sure says hey here you go. This
- 30:16Speaker 3: is you know you can use this for your taxes.
- 30:19Speaker 2: And how about how about Mike Mike Casella for jumping
- 30:24Speaker 2: on board on this thing and just being like, yep,
- 30:27Speaker 2: we are the company that is going to be front
- 30:30Speaker 2: and centered.
- 30:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I have to credit him. I mean
- 30:32Speaker 4: a lot of the reason we are so involved and
- 30:36Speaker 4: donate as much as we do, whether it's time of
- 30:38Speaker 4: our people, whether it's the disposal of the tires, the
- 30:42Speaker 4: recycling of the tires, that's all donated in in you know,
- 30:45Speaker 4: a big shout out to Mike, who I know doesn't
- 30:48Speaker 4: always like the recognition, but you know, he's a fantastic
- 30:52Speaker 4: boss and you know has done a great job, uh
- 30:54Speaker 4: you know, pushing us as an organization into this. You know,
- 30:57Speaker 4: it aligns exactly with what we do as well as
- 30:59Speaker 4: a company. So it's really cool having something you know,
- 31:03Speaker 4: this and green Up Day. You know, he's also involved,
- 31:05Speaker 4: very involved in that on the board and they're just
- 31:08Speaker 4: great organizations outline with our mission as a company.
- 31:11Speaker 2: I have seen you guys over the years standing out
- 31:17Speaker 2: there on the porn rain with your raincoats on, slapping
- 31:22Speaker 2: tires around and nothing. You're all unstoppable, all of you.
- 31:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a Hey, it's the business we're in.
- 31:29Speaker 4: I mean, rainer shine, we're picking up we're picking up
- 31:32Speaker 4: our trash cycling around Vermont, so you know it's it's
- 31:35Speaker 4: rain or shine. This tire sale goes on and you know,
- 31:38Speaker 4: just kind of shows us why we need an event
- 31:40Speaker 4: like this. If it's cold, guess what that's kind of
- 31:42Speaker 4: showing you, Hey, Vermonors without heating assistant, some mic go
- 31:45Speaker 4: cold through the winner. So kind of in the spirit
- 31:47Speaker 4: of the event, you you always hope it's a little chilly,
- 31:50Speaker 4: just a little bit. Also, you're hauling around tires, you
- 31:53Speaker 4: don't want it to be eighty degrees out there.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Ye, very true, like it was this past weekend. Again
- 32:01Speaker 2: the collection and I want to make sure that we
- 32:04Speaker 2: get this out there at the collection dates and we'll
- 32:07Speaker 2: give you the locations in a second, but the date,
- 32:11Speaker 2: the dates that you can donate your tires are the
- 32:17Speaker 2: twenty third and the twenty fourth. That's a Thursday and
- 32:21Speaker 2: a Friday at the following locations right here in Barry
- 32:31Speaker 2: from two to six, at the Granite Museum YEP in
- 32:35Speaker 2: Stow from one to five. That's at the Events Field YEP.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Williston from two to six, and where exactly in Williston's.
- 32:48Speaker 4: At our transfer station, Cassel's transfer Station at two twenty
- 32:50Speaker 4: Avenue B.
- 32:53Speaker 2: The transfer Station, London from one to five. And that's
- 33:03Speaker 2: going to be where again.
- 33:03Speaker 4: That's at Caulkins Sand and Gravel. Okay, at thirty four
- 33:07Speaker 4: Caulkins Drive.
- 33:12Speaker 2: And that's a new that's a new this year. Yeah,
- 33:16Speaker 2: that's so exciting, man, that's great. Pittsfield, Pittsford, yeah or Pittsford,
- 33:22Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Pittsford from two to six.
- 33:24Speaker 3: At Cassel Construction on thirteen eighty five US Route seven.
- 33:29Speaker 2: At Casella Okay, Rutland from eight. Uh wait a minute, nope,
- 33:37Speaker 2: I've got that wrong.
- 33:38Speaker 3: It's the tire sales now, that's the tire.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Sale Okay, Rutland is a sale only, Okay, got it? Uh.
- 33:45Speaker 2: The tire sale dates twenty fifth Saturday in Rutland.
- 33:52Speaker 4: It's actually also in Pittsford. I the right is Rutland,
- 33:55Speaker 4: but at Cassel Construction there as well, where that collection
- 33:58Speaker 4: site is right on Route four R Root seven.
- 34:01Speaker 2: Or Root seven. Okay, that's from eight until noon yep,
- 34:06Speaker 2: on the twenty fifth, and right here in the Granite
- 34:09Speaker 2: City from eight till noon on the twenty fifth. That's
- 34:14Speaker 2: the big tire sale those that's the bottom line for
- 34:21Speaker 2: collections and sales. Thank you to our Governor, to Dick Wabbie,
- 34:30Speaker 2: Wayne Lamberton, Mike Casella, the rest everyone at cassella yourself.
- 34:38Speaker 4: Just everybody, John and Joe you know down at Kassel Construction,
- 34:43Speaker 4: who owned Kassel Construction, do a great job as well.
- 34:45Speaker 3: And every year they step up and do a lot
- 34:48Speaker 3: down in that part of the state.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Everyone who volunteers and helps out to make this so successful.
- 34:57Speaker 2: We threw some love at at Kenny Ghostland or which
- 35:00Speaker 2: Women's hockey, But the list is so much longer than that.
- 35:05Speaker 2: It goes on and on and on. There are so
- 35:07Speaker 2: many people that make this the success that it's been.
- 35:12Speaker 2: This is year number twenty and you said more than
- 35:18Speaker 2: one hundred and twenty companies here in Vermont. Yeah, volunteer
- 35:25Speaker 2: and get involved in this.
- 35:27Speaker 3: It's incredible. I mean it really is incredible.
- 35:31Speaker 2: And you said thirty five thousand volunteer hours.
- 35:36Speaker 3: Twenty five thousand volunteer hours.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Wow, in just the last nineteen years. That's really remarkable.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Eight hundred and fifteen thousand dollars raised in the last
- 35:51Speaker 2: nineteen years and we are again within reach of kracking
- 35:57Speaker 2: a million dollars.
- 35:59Speaker 3: Help us do it, Help leus make it happen this year.
- 36:01Speaker 2: What is going to happen to Dick Wabbie if we
- 36:04Speaker 2: break a million dollars here, the guy's going to lose
- 36:07Speaker 2: his mind more than he's already lost it.
- 36:11Speaker 3: Yeah, we got to get dunk tanker sighing if we
- 36:13Speaker 3: hit a million.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Yeah something, dude. This is really really impressive work here,
- 36:20Speaker 2: and kudos to all of you at Cassella and anyone
- 36:26Speaker 2: who has played a role here and had their thumb
- 36:30Speaker 2: in it. I mean, this is really really something else.
- 36:33Speaker 2: We're doing great things for our environment. We're doing great
- 36:36Speaker 2: things for ver Honors in getting wheels that are cost
- 36:42Speaker 2: effective onto safe wheels onto their their vehicles. And we're
- 36:51Speaker 2: also maybe one of the big I don't know which
- 36:55Speaker 2: one's bigger, helping out VERM Honors who are struggling to
- 37:01Speaker 2: make ends meet when it comes to heating their their
- 37:04Speaker 2: their homes.
- 37:05Speaker 4: Yeah, it's nice, you know, we don't have to pick
- 37:06Speaker 4: which one is the biggest impact. They're all great impacts
- 37:09Speaker 4: and all helping our neighbors in some way or another.
- 37:11Speaker 4: So absolutely, it's definitely it's I love being involved because
- 37:16Speaker 4: it is such a win win win event that does
- 37:20Speaker 4: so much for the state.
- 37:22Speaker 2: So now wait a second, if this is if this
- 37:26Speaker 2: is year number twenty, you must have been just a
- 37:31Speaker 2: a little tiny tike.
- 37:35Speaker 4: When this started, right, Yeah, I got involved. You know,
- 37:40Speaker 4: I didn't wasn't involved for all, but about ten years ago,
- 37:43Speaker 4: when I was still in college, our fraternity got involved
- 37:47Speaker 4: at the Wilson location.
- 37:49Speaker 2: Wow.
- 37:50Speaker 3: So ten years ago, who would have known.
- 37:51Speaker 4: I'd be working for cassela after and being this involved
- 37:55Speaker 4: in the planning of the of the event.
- 37:58Speaker 3: So it's kind of cool to see that. You come
- 38:00Speaker 3: to full and it poured.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:02Speaker 4: Year that we volunteered, Oh my god, it it poured,
- 38:04Speaker 4: And I remember Mike coming out there giving us all
- 38:07Speaker 4: Casella rain jackets, and we're all pretty excited in college
- 38:10Speaker 4: to be throwing on these these Casseller rain but we
- 38:13Speaker 4: were like soaked going back to Oh, IBM, that's so great, man.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Kelton BUGASKI with Casella this morning talking about the twentieth
