- 0:01Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:04Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Listener discretion is advised.
- 0:08Speaker 3: The world's original podcast.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota.com.
- 0:22Speaker 4: That makes me immediately go, okay, well, what are the
- 0:24Speaker 4: things we're not good at that aren't salvageable?
- 0:27Speaker 2: Tackling, blocking.
- 0:28Speaker 4: Well, I would like to think that those things would
- 0:30Speaker 4: get better, Michael.
- 0:31Speaker 2: You can talk yourself into it, and I do think
- 0:33Speaker 2: I just did.
- 0:34Speaker 5: It seems like your guy Uche has found a home. Like, he's,
- 0:36Speaker 5: I mean, five starts. He's played the most defensive snaps.
- 0:38Speaker 2: We're talking about Josh Uche in the postgame show. Look out.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Something went wrong.
- 0:43Speaker 4: That Packers offense is weird.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Tight pants and, you know, coiffed hair. Some of their
- 0:47Speaker 1: top players are from not the USA.
- 0:50Speaker 4: Correct, but the depth of the league is still all American.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Yeah, you're missing the point. All right, anyway, Evan needs
- 0:55Speaker 1: to get on the internet and look for a house
- 0:57Speaker 1: in Texas because that's the only place football is going
- 0:59Speaker 1: to be played in about 10, 20 years.
- 1:01Speaker 6: You really are passionate about this, huh? You just won't
- 1:03Speaker 6: give it up.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I'm just worried.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I'm just worried.
- 1:06Speaker 4: You got nothing to worry about.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Oh, listen.
- 1:08Speaker 7: You're right.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I'm not going to be around that long.
- 1:11Speaker 2: That was ageism. This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:14Speaker 6: Presented by Toyota.com.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Alright, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here at
- 1:22Speaker 1: Gillette Stadium. The gang's all here. Evan, Paul, me, Deuce, Alex,
- 1:27Speaker 1: and Matt in the booth. Talking Miami Dolphins. We're talking
- 1:32Speaker 1: picks at the end of the show. Gotta hurry. I
- 1:36Speaker 1: got a feeling that Paul had another big week.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Why do you have a feeling for that?
- 1:40Speaker 1: The way you're carrying yourself. You feel a little copture.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I can't help it.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:45Speaker 2: You're on a heater. You're on a heater.
- 1:47Speaker 6: I wish we could challenge him, but I'm just like depressed.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I wish I could bet on his picks.
- 1:52Speaker 2: So do I.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Can't do that. But yeah. So anyway, we'll do that
- 1:56Speaker 1: at the end of the show.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Get a little injury update.
- 1:59Speaker 1: A little injury update from Wednesday practice. Participation report.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Everything brings good news.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Good news and some little eyebrow raiser.
- 2:08Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Okay. Let's get into it.
- 2:11Speaker 4: What's the eyebrow razor?
- 2:12Speaker 1: I think AJ now has also a knee, and last
- 2:16Speaker 1: week he was full, and now he's limited.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:19Speaker 4: Okay.
- 2:20Speaker 9: No?
- 2:21Speaker 1: No. Why not?
- 2:22Speaker 4: Because his knee has been a thing.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Okay, but he was full.
- 2:25Speaker 2: But it wasn't a thing last week.
- 2:26Speaker 1: He was full participation last week, and now he's limited.
- 2:29Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 2:30Speaker 4: I don't know. I think a lot of these Wednesday
- 2:31Speaker 4: injury reports with the Patriots over the years with Rabel are.
- 2:37Speaker 4: When veteran guys have bumps and bruises of the season,
- 2:40Speaker 4: their injuries tend to pop up. They tend to be limited.
- 2:43Speaker 4: Sometimes they give them veteran rest.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Everything's good.
- 2:46Speaker 4: They gave them all veteran rest on Monday, so they
- 2:48Speaker 4: didn't have to give them veteran rest today or yesterday.
- 2:53Speaker 1: When Moses is having his veteran rest, they just say
- 2:56Speaker 1: he's out.
- 2:57Speaker 2: But as typically is the case, Mike, Evan, Alex, Paul
- 3:02Speaker 2: were a little bit more positive about things related to
- 3:05Speaker 2: the Pacers than Fred. And I took Evan's report from
- 3:09Speaker 2: practice yesterday. Everybody that's actually on the 53-man roster was positive.
- 3:16Speaker 2: present and accounted for. I think the arrow's pointing up,
- 3:19Speaker 2: I think, with injury news.
- 3:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I would agree with that. They had perfect attendance
- 3:24Speaker 4: at practice. Not everybody practiced in full, but they had
- 3:27Speaker 4: perfect attendance. I mean, they still have the guys on
- 3:29Speaker 4: injured reserve, obviously, but the guys that are on the
- 3:33Speaker 4: active roster are all practicing. It sounds like Carlton Davis
- 3:36Speaker 4: is going to be back on Sunday in Miami. Seemed
- 3:39Speaker 4: like he maybe could have came back last week, but
- 3:41Speaker 4: with the short week, they held off, and I gave
- 3:43Speaker 4: him a little bit of extra time. And then, you know,
- 3:46Speaker 4: we'll see about the interior offensive line because Ben Brown,
- 3:50Speaker 4: it seems healthy and seems like he's ready to go.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Amazing.
- 3:54Speaker 4: But I don't know if, you know, maybe they liked
- 3:56Speaker 4: what they saw at a Rousen prior and they're going
- 3:59Speaker 4: to roll with that.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 4:01Speaker 4: So hopefully we'll get some clarity.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Ben Brown's also your backup center. So it's good to
- 4:07Speaker 1: have him available for that.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Oh yeah, it's good to have him healthy no matter what.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Last week, Vrabel told us he was going to start
- 4:14Speaker 4: at guard, so maybe tomorrow he'll tell us again who's
- 4:17Speaker 4: going to start at guard, but I would have thought
- 4:20Speaker 4: that Ben Brown would go right back in to the
- 4:22Speaker 4: starting lineup once he was healthy, but based off of
- 4:25Speaker 4: what we saw yesterday at practice, it looked like Rouse
- 4:28Speaker 4: and Pryor were still first up at those positions, so
- 4:32Speaker 4: we'll see how that goes, but But overall, yeah, you know, trending,
- 4:36Speaker 4: trending positively.
- 4:37Speaker 2: I don't know. I just thought it was interesting that.
- 4:40Speaker 6: It is.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:41Speaker 2: I mean.
- 4:42Speaker 5: It is because actually when they signed him, everybody said
- 4:44Speaker 5: he has a degenerative knee problem.
- 4:46Speaker 6: So now knee pops up and that, you know.
- 4:48Speaker 4: Well, but that's sort of why, like, it's not a
- 4:51Speaker 4: new thing. Like, they're managing a knee. But why is
- 4:54Speaker 4: it now?
- 4:54Speaker 11: Yeah, but now that's bothering him off for the short
- 4:56Speaker 11: week instead of the ankle.
- 4:58Speaker 2: So that's, he's going to be on it the rest
- 4:59Speaker 2: of the season. But after he played against the Jets,
- 5:01Speaker 2: it wasn't a thing. No. after he played against the Bears.
- 5:03Speaker 6: I'm not going to get too worked up about it.
- 5:06Speaker 6: He's got to play better.
- 5:08Speaker 2: I'm not worked up. He's got to play better. I
- 5:11Speaker 2: just thought it was an eyebrow raiser. The show's only
- 5:13Speaker 2: been on for five minutes.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I'm not worked up. Big C concern or anything like that.
- 5:18Speaker 1: I just thought it was notable.
- 5:19Speaker 6: It's like an italics.
- 5:20Speaker 1: You know, I look at things and I note them.
- 5:22Speaker 4: That's okay. The way I went to practice yesterday and
- 5:26Speaker 4: what came out of it, I thought we were going positive.
- 5:28Speaker 4: So I was just a little surprised that we went
- 5:30Speaker 4: the other way.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I am right there with you, as is often the case.
- 5:34Speaker 4: They've been decimated by injuries all year and everybody was there.
- 5:37Speaker 2: I think you're getting a little defensive.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I don't think it's either positive nor negative to just
- 5:43Speaker 1: bring it up. You're just noting a fact.
- 5:46Speaker 6: No, you are right. You're 100% right.
- 5:48Speaker 4: You're a little triggered.
- 5:49Speaker 2: I would be lying, but I'm not triggered.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I think this whole Celtics thing has you on edge.
- 5:53Speaker 4: I think you have me on edge, if we're going
- 5:55Speaker 4: to be honest.
- 5:57Speaker 1: He's turning it to Eric.
- 5:58Speaker 6: I just thought that was the thought that just went
- 6:00Speaker 6: into my head.
- 6:00Speaker 2: That's the exact thought that just went into my head.
- 6:02Speaker 1: You want me to be Eric?
- 6:04Speaker 2: I'll be Eric.
- 6:04Speaker 6: What is that bag you're wearing?
- 6:06Speaker 2: You! What did he say? Obitual liar.
- 6:12Speaker 6: I wouldn't call you that. So that's what it is.
- 6:14Speaker 6: That's the Fred.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I like it.
- 6:15Speaker 5: That's the time that it takes Fred to truly get
- 6:18Speaker 5: under somebody's skin.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Yeah, a couple years. No, no.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Sooner than that.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Foreign change.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Sooner than that.
- 6:25Speaker 1: All right. Okay, so.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Anything change from the game? You know, you're... Outlook for
- 6:33Speaker 1: the game.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Big trade in the NFL, Freddie. Big trade. Jeffrey Simmons
- 6:39Speaker 2: for two first round picks.
- 6:42Speaker 6: Goes to Chicago.
- 6:44Speaker 5: It's kind of funny that Seattle goes and gets Quentin
- 6:46Speaker 5: Nelson and then Chicago's like, oh shoot, we better go
- 6:49Speaker 5: get Jeffrey Simmons for that Friday night matchup.
- 6:51Speaker 2: That's going to be a good game to watch, I think.
- 6:55Speaker 2: I don't think much of the Bears defense in general,
- 6:58Speaker 2: but They were really bad.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Maybe they didn't either.
- 7:00Speaker 2: They were really bad against the run. So that's a
- 7:03Speaker 2: big move for them. And he's more than just a
- 7:05Speaker 2: run stuffer. He's a really, really good defensive tackle.
- 7:07Speaker 4: He might be the best in football.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Some people have called him. He's been so effective this year.
- 7:11Speaker 2: I think our boy Solak, who I kind of really
- 7:13Speaker 2: enjoyed reading those seven things he thinks.
- 7:15Speaker 4: I appreciate that.
- 7:16Speaker 2: A couple of weeks ago. I do.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I do.
- 7:19Speaker 2: He's where you should be.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Anyway.
- 7:21Speaker 7: Wow.
- 7:21Speaker 4: That got personal real fast.
- 7:26Speaker 2: That was too easy.
- 7:27Speaker 3: I love the start.
- 7:28Speaker 2: He actually says that he is playing so well he
- 7:31Speaker 2: could be like an MVP, a defensive MVP. Clearly acknowledges
- 7:35Speaker 2: he won't win it because defensive tackles don't, you know,
- 7:38Speaker 2: like you have to be like Aaron Donald.
- 7:39Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Because you won't have those kinds of stats.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Paul, are you surprised with the Colts and the Titans
- 7:45Speaker 5: kind of offloading all their guys that they're not both
- 7:47Speaker 5: on the Patriots schedule coming up?
- 7:49Speaker 2: Um, fair point. Fair point. It's another one of the
- 7:54Speaker 2: biggest differences between this year and last year. Everybody talks
- 7:57Speaker 2: about all of the stuff that we spent five minutes
- 8:00Speaker 2: talking about injuries. Whoa, look at the difference. Last year
- 8:02Speaker 2: you were healthy. That's another, another difference. You know, Caleb
- 8:07Speaker 2: Williams was hurt before they played the Patriots last year.
- 8:11Speaker 2: He would have been hurt as they were playing the Patriots.
- 8:13Speaker 6: Yeah. Right.
- 8:14Speaker 4: Big difference. I, uh, I, I still acts on the
- 8:18Speaker 4: list of people that make me jealous sometimes. Like he'll,
- 8:21Speaker 4: he'll publish things or like, you know, write things or whatever.
- 8:23Speaker 4: And I'm like, like, I should have thought of that. Like, yeah,
- 8:26Speaker 4: he's really good. Uh, shout out Yofi Chen though. Uh, under,
- 8:31Speaker 4: underrated ball on the beat yesterday asked a question to
- 8:35Speaker 4: Drake may about carrying the ball on his left hand
- 8:38Speaker 4: instead of his right hand. And like, I think it
- 8:40Speaker 4: kind of blew Drake's mind that somebody like realized that
- 8:42Speaker 4: he does that. So Drake made, I guess more comfortable
- 8:45Speaker 4: when he's running, uh, to carry the ball on his
- 8:47Speaker 4: left hand, so he changes it from his right to
- 8:49Speaker 4: his left when he starts to scramble.
- 8:51Speaker 6: And Yofi saw it.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Because I want to use my strong hand because I'm
- 8:56Speaker 1: a lefty.
- 8:57Speaker 6: Or, you know, a stiff arm.
- 8:59Speaker 4: Yeah, he just said that that's just naturally more comfortable.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I mean, that's a very valid reason why you would
- 9:04Speaker 2: do that. I hope that's not why our quarterback is
- 9:06Speaker 2: doing it.
- 9:06Speaker 5: No, he talked about his dad. I didn't see a
- 9:09Speaker 5: direct correlation. He talked about his dad yelling at them.
- 9:12Speaker 5: It was a little bit of a window into the maze.
- 9:14Speaker 1: But weren't you always taught, Paul, you change the ball
- 9:17Speaker 1: to the sideline?
- 9:18Speaker 2: Correct. Outside, away from the contact.
- 9:21Speaker 6: Yes.
- 9:22Speaker 4: That's why I didn't even notice that, that he does that.
- 9:27Speaker 2: I'm a little disappointed in myself for not noticing that
- 9:29Speaker 2: because that's the kind of nonsense that I notice.
- 9:32Speaker 6: Can't go left.
- 9:33Speaker 2: He always goes left. Yeah, he goes left. Can't go left.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Can't go left. He always goes left.
- 9:37Speaker 4: I was jealous.
- 9:38Speaker 2: I didn't notice that. I didn't love, just as a
- 9:43Speaker 2: complete aside, I didn't love him falling backwards and reaching
- 9:47Speaker 2: the ball over the back of his head.
- 9:49Speaker 3: I was wondering what you would think about that.
- 9:50Speaker 2: To get a dimple of the ball, on second down,
- 9:52Speaker 2: by the way, to get a dimple of the ball
- 9:54Speaker 2: to the goal, I didn't need that risk.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Yeah, but that picture is so tough.
- 9:57Speaker 2: I didn't need that risk.
- 9:59Speaker 1: And he and me.
- 10:00Speaker 2: It. It's worth it for the gram.
- 10:02Speaker 6: It's worth it for the guy to make a play.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Yeah, he said he was going to get heat from
- 10:06Speaker 1: the coach for that.
- 10:07Speaker 4: Great challenge by Stretch and Vrabel.
- 10:11Speaker 6: By the millimeter, my gosh.
- 10:14Speaker 2: If it was like third down or fourth down, obviously
- 10:16Speaker 2: it's different, but.
- 10:18Speaker 1: When I saw it live, I didn't think he was in.
- 10:20Speaker 1: But then you saw it, and it's like, oh, that's
- 10:22Speaker 1: closer than I thought.
- 10:23Speaker 2: You saw it like a million times. I'm really surprised
- 10:26Speaker 2: they overturned that.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Oh, really?
- 10:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:28Speaker 1: You thought his calf was down?
- 10:29Speaker 2: I didn't know. It's exactly what Mike said. I watched it,
- 10:33Speaker 2: and I don't know. Maybe a dimple with a ball
- 10:35Speaker 2: was at a blade of grass. I didn't think it
- 10:38Speaker 2: was close. I didn't think it was conclusive enough to overturn.
- 10:42Speaker 3: You didn't know the goal line shot?
- 10:44Speaker 1: It's close. Oh, it definitely was a good call. It
- 10:47Speaker 1: broke the plane.
- 10:48Speaker 12: Oh, okay.
- 10:48Speaker 1: And he wasn't down.
- 10:50Speaker 2: No, I didn't. Yeah, Mike and I watched it. We
- 10:52Speaker 2: kept saying, I don't know. I don't think they're going
- 10:55Speaker 2: to overturn this. I don't think you can see.
- 10:56Speaker 6: It was just so close.
- 10:57Speaker 5: I think it could have gone either way.
- 10:59Speaker 6: You know, one of those, like, is it conclusive.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Evidence kind of things? And it's like, when are you
- 11:02Speaker 2: declaring him down? I think it was very, like, subjective
- 11:06Speaker 2: as to, oh, he's down there. No, no, no, he's
- 11:08Speaker 2: not down there. He's down, you know. And that's, now
- 11:11Speaker 2: you've got to freeze frame it where the ball is. Again,
- 11:13Speaker 2: I just... My only point was, like, I don't think
- 11:17Speaker 2: we need to be reaching the ball out blindly behind us.
- 11:20Speaker 1: So I want to get back to this big trade
- 11:23Speaker 1: because I was.
- 11:23Speaker 13: Huh?
- 11:24Speaker 4: You're right about that.
- 11:25Speaker 2: No, I mean, that's all. But it worked and it
- 11:27Speaker 2: was cool.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Yeah, you're right.
- 11:29Speaker 2: It worked, but I just, like, you weighed the. I
- 11:33Speaker 2: think in general. You weighed the pluses and minuses there. Yeah,
- 11:35Speaker 2: I mean, if it was fourth down, you got to
- 11:37Speaker 2: have it. That's totally different.
- 11:39Speaker 1: But this is, yeah, they had another shot after that.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Two others.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Yeah. I want to get back to this trade because,
- 11:47Speaker 1: you know, does that make you more anxious? Like, Patriots
- 11:51Speaker 1: should do something, too, you know?
- 11:53Speaker 6: Not really, man.
- 11:54Speaker 5: That's a really hefty price to pay. I mean, you
- 11:55Speaker 5: don't even have those two picks to give.
- 11:58Speaker 1: That's at the highest level. You're giving two first-round picks
- 12:00Speaker 1: for one of the best defensive players. That's an extreme.
- 12:02Speaker 1: But I said something, you know?
- 12:05Speaker 6: Not really.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 12:07Speaker 4: I expect them to do something.
- 12:08Speaker 1: You do.
- 12:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think it's going to be splashy.
- 12:11Speaker 1: It won't be to that level.
- 12:13Speaker 4: But I would hope that they're working on something. But
- 12:19Speaker 4: we'll see. I mean, we had an emailer that emailed
- 12:21Speaker 4: into Catch-22 and said, given the injuries and the situation
- 12:25Speaker 4: and all that, this might just not be their year.
- 12:28Speaker 4: And I was like, well, you have Drake May. You
- 12:31Speaker 4: get into the playoffs, and you have Drake May and
- 12:34Speaker 4: Mike Rabel coaching the team.
- 12:36Speaker 11: But that move Chicago made feels like a win-now move
- 12:39Speaker 11: for them. Do you feel like the Patriots are in
- 12:41Speaker 11: a position to make a move like that or just
- 12:43Speaker 11: fill in depth out of necessity?
- 12:46Speaker 4: I think they've kind of already made some of those moves,
- 12:48Speaker 4: like trading for A.J. Brown, I would say, was a
- 12:51Speaker 4: win-now move. So like they kind of pushed a lot
- 12:53Speaker 4: of their chips in the middle already. And so I
- 12:56Speaker 4: think that's the problem with getting into these waters of
- 12:59Speaker 4: these level of trades for them right now is that
- 13:01Speaker 4: they'd already don't have a first round pick in 2028.
- 13:04Speaker 4: You know, like they, they have a first round pick
- 13:06Speaker 4: next year, but now do you want to trade that pick?
- 13:09Speaker 4: And now you don't have first round picks and back-to-back drafts. Like,
- 13:12Speaker 4: I'm not sure that's really what you want to do.
- 13:14Speaker 4: So like they made some of those splashes in the
- 13:17Speaker 4: off season and, you know, now teams are doing it
- 13:19Speaker 4: now at the deadline and, I just think that you
- 13:22Speaker 4: can make trades over the next 10 days that move
- 13:26Speaker 4: the needle maybe not as much as Jeffrey Simmons would,
- 13:29Speaker 4: but help augment the roster and help build up depth
- 13:32Speaker 4: and help strengthen a weakness and that sort of thing
- 13:35Speaker 4: that isn't giving up two first-round picks for Jeffrey Simmons.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Somebody said, you know, two of the teams that are
- 13:42Speaker 1: doing the selling, Titans and the Colts, are two of
- 13:46Speaker 1: the teams that probably don't want to do business with
- 13:48Speaker 1: the Patriots. The Titans, because of Rabel, And maybe the
- 13:51Speaker 1: Colts because of McDaniels.
- 13:53Speaker 4: That was a long time ago, Josh.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Well, you know, I don't think the Colts would be
- 13:58Speaker 2: on the list. The Titans, I totally could see that.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree.
- 14:01Speaker 6: Probably a question of, as Carly Ursae Gordon, was she
- 14:05Speaker 6: irked as a young, you know, when that happened way
- 14:07Speaker 6: back when?
- 14:07Speaker 1: I'm sure she was.
- 14:08Speaker 2: They fired two GMs since then.
- 14:10Speaker 6: I don't know. That was like a decade ago.
- 14:11Speaker 1: No, I know, but they really felt that they got screwed.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. Oh, they, well, they did.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:17Speaker 2: But that was a long time ago.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I know, but people hold grudges. We still hate the Jets.
- 14:21Speaker 1: We still, you know, those things don't go away.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Do you think the Patriots wouldn't make a trade with
- 14:25Speaker 2: the Jets? I don't know.
- 14:26Speaker 4: They did make a trade with the Jets.
- 14:28Speaker 1: We would.
- 14:29Speaker 2: No, but that's what I'm saying. Do you think the
- 14:31Speaker 2: Patriots would make a trade with the Jets? Yeah, I
- 14:32Speaker 2: think we would because we're better than that, but they're not.
- 14:35Speaker 2: But my point is you do what's best for you
- 14:37Speaker 2: and your team. And if the Colts didn't, I don't
- 14:40Speaker 2: see the Colts being so angry, like, Amy Adams? Yeah,
- 14:43Speaker 2: I could see her being that angry. I don't see
- 14:46Speaker 2: the Colts people.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Okay.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Just because 10 years ago a coach decided to leave
- 14:50Speaker 2: them at the altar. Like, what are you going to do?
- 14:56Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 14:57Speaker 1: People are funny.
- 14:58Speaker 2: They are. I won't rule it out completely because I
- 15:01Speaker 2: don't know.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:02Speaker 6: A lot of weird grudges out there.
- 15:03Speaker 2: I don't know what's up with that Evans girl there
- 15:05Speaker 2: in Indy. Maybe she would leave it.
- 15:07Speaker 4: I'll call her later on.
- 15:11Speaker 1: All right.
- 15:12Speaker 2: She's got the headset on.
- 15:13Speaker 1: What else do we need to cover here?
- 15:16Speaker 5: I was just going to say a couple little injury
- 15:18Speaker 5: notes from the Colts with their starting corner.
- 15:21Speaker 6: You mean the Dolphins? Dolphins.
- 15:23Speaker 5: Juju Brents was out yesterday with a neck and a
- 15:25Speaker 5: concussion and starting left guard, Caden Proctor, the rookie, was
- 15:28Speaker 5: out with a concussion as well.
- 15:29Speaker 6: I know those things can turn around, but just maybe
- 15:32Speaker 6: a couple injuries to take note of.
- 15:34Speaker 5: As well as Greg Dulcich and Malik Washington, two guys
- 15:37Speaker 5: that are pretty important to them. They were only limited.
- 15:38Speaker 5: I don't think this will be a huge deal, but
- 15:41Speaker 5: Just something to be aware of.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Yeah, they could be without two starters, though. You know, concussions.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Especially in the secondary. I can imagine their depth. Already
- 15:48Speaker 2: a bad group.
- 15:48Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Okay.
- 15:52Speaker 5: And, no, that's about it for the injury stuff. But,
- 15:55Speaker 5: I mean, Ben Brown's still limited. I just thought a
- 15:56Speaker 5: lot of guys were in full participation. And, you know,
- 15:59Speaker 5: no more Barmore, too. I thought that was a good sign.
- 16:01Speaker 5: I'm not sure if he came off last week. It
- 16:02Speaker 5: just kind of popped into my head.
- 16:03Speaker 2: It would have been good if he was, like, on here, like,
- 16:06Speaker 2: you know, fell on ball right limited trying.
- 16:11Speaker 4: To you know you're just oxygen you just never know
- 16:17Speaker 4: like sometimes after losses some of the guys can be
- 16:20Speaker 4: pretty standoffish but he he really wanted to vent about
- 16:24Speaker 4: that situation he thought that he had the ball like
- 16:27Speaker 4: he thought that he had strip sack caleb williams at
- 16:29Speaker 4: the end of the game And I think he was
- 16:31Speaker 4: pretty close to doing it. And Caleb just kind of
- 16:34Speaker 4: lost it for a second and then was able to
- 16:37Speaker 4: bring it back in. And, I mean, obviously that would
- 16:40Speaker 4: have been a game-changing play if he had strip-sacked him there.
- 16:42Speaker 4: So he was pretty upset about it. Is getting the
- 16:44Speaker 4: wind knocked out of.
- 16:45Speaker 6: You a rite of passage as a kid?
- 16:47Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 16:49Speaker 3: I did a go-karting once. I rear-ended my sister on
- 16:52Speaker 3: a go-kart.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 16:54Speaker 3: I had never had anything happen to me like that.
- 16:56Speaker 1: It was like a poor memory.
- 16:57Speaker 2: I was young.
- 16:57Speaker 1: It was like this panic that goes through you.
- 16:59Speaker 2: You can't breathe in.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Yeah. I actually dove and caught a football and landed
- 17:04Speaker 1: right on my stomach with the ball. And everyone's like,
- 17:07Speaker 1: what's wrong with you?
- 17:11Speaker 5: I can't talk I took a soccer ball once just
- 17:13Speaker 5: somebody teed it up boom and then my brief stint
- 17:17Speaker 5: at Fred Villari's studio self defense where I.
- 17:19Speaker 12: Attained the level of Fred Villari oh my god that's
- 17:23Speaker 12: a that's a blast from the past I attained the
- 17:26Speaker 12: level of purple belt which I think was the third
- 17:28Speaker 12: belt you know the eight point blocking system but then
- 17:30Speaker 12: they tell.
- 17:31Speaker 5: You like you know that's the solar plexus and that's
- 17:33Speaker 5: you know try to hit the guy right there and
- 17:34Speaker 5: they'll lose then I was like oh alright this starts
- 17:36Speaker 5: to make sense like I I didn't know what it
- 17:37Speaker 5: actually was.
- 17:38Speaker 6: You just get the wind knocked out of you.
- 17:39Speaker 3: It's good for self-defense.
- 17:40Speaker 4: Did you fight Cobra Kai?
- 17:42Speaker 6: I didn't get to that level.
- 17:43Speaker 5: I was more on, like, try to walk in the
- 17:45Speaker 5: shape of an eye, like, while doing, you know, different things.
- 17:48Speaker 4: Well, I saw Karate Kid, and I was, you know, like, Dad,
- 17:50Speaker 4: I want to take karate. I did karate, too, as
- 17:52Speaker 4: a kid. I got up to green belt, and then, like.
- 17:55Speaker 6: What other belt levels?
- 17:56Speaker 4: Got into.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Well, little known fact in Canada, Arthur Dussault was the
- 18:01Speaker 1: first jiu-jitsu Canadian.
- 18:05Speaker 6: I come from a long line of karate experts.
- 18:07Speaker 2: I'm a karate man.
- 18:08Speaker 6: Who's on the inside?
- 18:09Speaker 4: I remember breaking a piece of wood. Like, you know,
- 18:13Speaker 4: that was like part of like.
- 18:14Speaker 3: That's like what you do in class one.
- 18:15Speaker 6: Yeah, they did like a... They would do like.
- 18:18Speaker 4: I don't know what to call it. It was like
- 18:20Speaker 4: a showcase type of thing where the parents could come
- 18:23Speaker 4: and watch, and you would spar with somebody, and you'd
- 18:25Speaker 4: also break the wood.
- 18:30Speaker 5: It was just not as cool as I had in
- 18:32Speaker 5: my head of, like, I think I'm going to fight
- 18:33Speaker 5: Cobra Kai. No, you just kind of walk in a
- 18:35Speaker 5: circle and move your feet like this.
- 18:37Speaker 11: No offense to karate, but I feel like jiu-jitsu is
- 18:41Speaker 11: a little cooler.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, for sure. So my story from the past,
- 18:45Speaker 1: it shows how stereotypical jiu-jitsu people used to be, and
- 18:49Speaker 1: it was accepted, and now, you know, you get canceled
- 18:52Speaker 1: for it. I was with my parents on a beach
- 18:54Speaker 1: in Newport.
- 18:55Speaker 2: So say it.
- 18:56Speaker 1: See if we can get canceled. I'm going to out myself.
- 18:59Speaker 1: We were on a beach in Newport, and I was
- 19:00Speaker 1: probably like, I don't know, four or five, and the
- 19:04Speaker 1: beach was kind of crowded, Newport Beach, and there were
- 19:07Speaker 1: two Asian, young Asian guys, probably, you know, at the time,
- 19:11Speaker 1: it's hard to judge, probably like early 20s or late teens,
- 19:15Speaker 1: and I said to my parents, I said, do you
- 19:17Speaker 1: think that they know karate? And my parents, go ask them.
- 19:21Speaker 2: So I did.
- 19:22Speaker 6: And they kicked your ass?
- 19:23Speaker 2: No.
- 19:24Speaker 1: They were actually really nice, and they did know. And
- 19:27Speaker 1: they showed me some moves. But nowadays, like, how stereotypical
- 19:30Speaker 1: would that be?
- 19:31Speaker 6: How old were you?
- 19:33Speaker 1: I said, like, four or five. But the parents were OK.
- 19:35Speaker 6: They would say, like, no.
- 19:37Speaker 2: They encouraged me to go ask.
- 19:39Speaker 6: Do you guys know karate?
- 19:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:42Speaker 1: You know, just because you're Asian. I don't think.
- 19:46Speaker 5: Fred Villari was Asian. He had a whole studio self-defense.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Anyway, that's my.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Is he like the guy in Napoleon Dynamite?
- 19:55Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Go to your sensei!
- 19:58Speaker 1: Are you in the mob?
- 19:59Speaker 2: You can walk up to an Italian guy and ask
- 20:00Speaker 2: him if he's in the mafia. Nothing will happen to you.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I don't think you can.
- 20:04Speaker 2: I think you can. I think you can say anything
- 20:05Speaker 2: to an Italian.
- 20:06Speaker 3: I think it's a little different than karate. Once in
- 20:09Speaker 3: blank time.
- 20:10Speaker 2: That seems a little sketchy for our day.
- 20:13Speaker 3: You're four years old.
- 20:14Speaker 2: It's harmless.
- 20:16Speaker 1: No, the point is my parents said, yeah, go ahead.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Most parents were like, don't do that.
- 20:21Speaker 2: I could see my parents saying, shh, shh.
- 20:23Speaker 6: Good question, little Freddy. Go ask him.
- 20:26Speaker 1: And here I go in my little bathing suit. Anyway,
- 20:32Speaker 1: I got a million of them.
- 20:34Speaker 2: You certainly do.
- 20:35Speaker 4: That's true.
- 20:37Speaker 1: And I'm not afraid to talk about them.
- 20:39Speaker 6: Oh, the Dolphins, huh?
- 20:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:41Speaker 6: This is where the Dolphins are at.
- 20:43Speaker 4: We're already off the rails 20 minutes into the show.
- 20:46Speaker 2: I've tried a couple of times this week to get
- 20:49Speaker 2: into this game in terms of that, and I can't.
- 20:53Speaker 2: I can't. I just don't see them having any ability offensively.
- 20:59Speaker 2: I guess the one path would be if Ollie Gordon
- 21:02Speaker 2: just goes off and they shorten the game and they
- 21:06Speaker 2: keep Drake May on the sideline. I guess that... is
- 21:09Speaker 2: one very, like, narrow path to competitiveness in this game.
- 21:13Speaker 2: I just don't see it.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Okay, so let's just say that early on they're having
- 21:16Speaker 1: success running the ball and, you know, Zach Kor and
- 21:19Speaker 1: Vrabel want to make adjustments and they start stacking the box.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Is Malik Willis able to take advantage of that?
- 21:26Speaker 6: I don't think so.
- 21:28Speaker 4: I mean, I think their offense has been better than
- 21:30Speaker 4: their defense, especially recently. Like, the last couple of weeks,
- 21:33Speaker 4: their offense really struggled in the first month of the season. Uh,
- 21:36Speaker 4: but the last couple of weeks, they've been a little
- 21:38Speaker 4: bit more frisky, uh, offensively last week against the jets.
- 21:43Speaker 4: He didn't drop back very much. And that that's whenever
- 21:46Speaker 4: you have faced quarterbacks like that, that's always like sort
- 21:50Speaker 4: of the, the way to help them is, you know,
- 21:52Speaker 4: 28 dropbacks for the game. They scored 28 points on
- 21:55Speaker 4: 28 dropbacks. Like, can you run the football? Can you
- 21:58Speaker 4: play action off the run game? Can you use his mobility,
- 22:01Speaker 4: which they did a couple of times with some design
- 22:03Speaker 4: quarterback runs to pick up some third downs. If they
- 22:06Speaker 4: can turn it into him just being an athlete, then
- 22:10Speaker 4: he's a good athlete. He's a great athlete. But if
- 22:13Speaker 4: you make him sit there and consistently read out progressions
- 22:17Speaker 4: and read disguise and that sort of thing, that has
- 22:21Speaker 4: been a little bit of an issue for him. So
- 22:24Speaker 4: that's always the book on any of these types of
- 22:26Speaker 4: quarterbacks like Malik Willis. I've kind of liked watching their offense.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Their offense the last couple weeks has been spunky. They
- 22:33Speaker 4: run the ball well. They design it well. Malik Willis
- 22:36Speaker 4: is talented. He's maybe not their answer long-term, but he's
- 22:39Speaker 4: physically talented. But they just don't have a lot. They
- 22:43Speaker 4: don't have a lot of skill position players. They don't
- 22:45Speaker 4: have a lot of receivers. The two rookies, I thought
- 22:49Speaker 4: Caleb Douglas was kind of overdrafted when they drafted him
- 22:52Speaker 4: to begin with, and Chris Bell's coming off that major injury,
- 22:55Speaker 4: so he doesn't look quite like himself just yet. Dulcich
- 22:58Speaker 4: is okay as their tight end, but they don't really
- 23:01Speaker 4: have enough firepower offensively to get into like a drop
- 23:04Speaker 4: back passing game. Willis has a really, really good arm,
- 23:08Speaker 4: great arm and multiple angles too. He can really drop
- 23:11Speaker 4: the arm angles off platform.
- 23:12Speaker 1: But you're saying that Miami doesn't have the skill to
- 23:15Speaker 1: take advantage of that.
- 23:17Speaker 4: I think it's a combination. Like I don't think that
- 23:19Speaker 4: he's great at playing conventionally from the pocket. And then
- 23:24Speaker 4: I also don't think that they're doing him any favors
- 23:27Speaker 4: with what's around him from a skill position standpoint. I
- 23:30Speaker 4: think their offensive line is fine, but their receivers are
- 23:35Speaker 4: really limited. This is probably the worst receiver group in
- 23:37Speaker 4: the league.
- 23:38Speaker 5: I love your thing, Ev, about can you, instead of
- 23:41Speaker 5: having to rely on aggressive scheme, can you beat them
- 23:44Speaker 5: straight up with your talent?
- 23:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:46Speaker 5: That's a great question to me, and I'm at the
- 23:48Speaker 5: place now with the defense where it's mostly coming from
- 23:51Speaker 5: scheme right now, and when it's all schemed up, Guys
- 23:54Speaker 5: are getting sacks, team sacks.
- 23:56Speaker 6: I'd say.
- 23:56Speaker 5: You know, oh, Barmore flushed him out into Williams, or,
- 23:59Speaker 5: you know, Atkins cleaned it up, that kind of stuff. But,
- 24:02Speaker 5: you know, if they were able to just four-man rush,
- 24:04Speaker 5: drop guys in coverage, stop the run, not have to
- 24:06Speaker 5: worry about stacking the box, I think that would be
- 24:09Speaker 5: a good sign. Like, you know, talk about what can
- 24:11Speaker 5: you actually take out of this game and believe in
- 24:13Speaker 5: his truth.
- 24:14Speaker 6: Like, maybe that would be the start of something. I mean,
- 24:16Speaker 6: I'm not going to say, oh, they've arrived. You know,
- 24:18Speaker 6: look out, Green Bay. But it would be a good
- 24:19Speaker 6: first step to prove you could do it against a
- 24:21Speaker 6: bad team.
- 24:21Speaker 4: It's just hard to do against good quarterbacks. It's hard
- 24:25Speaker 4: to disguise in pressure and like win that way against
- 24:29Speaker 4: the really good quarterbacks. And we just saw it with
- 24:32Speaker 4: Caleb Williams. Like if you play that way and you're
- 24:34Speaker 4: aggressive like that, then the really good ones will pick
- 24:37Speaker 4: you apart.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:38Speaker 4: And, and that that's when we get into the meat
- 24:41Speaker 4: of the schedule and the, the playoffs and all that
- 24:44Speaker 4: kind of stuff, you know, that that's where you start
- 24:46Speaker 4: to worry about some of that stuff, you know, when
- 24:50Speaker 4: they get into a playoff game and they're, they're facing
- 24:52Speaker 4: a really good quarterback, if they can only get pressure
- 24:55Speaker 4: by blitzing, like that's going to be tough. That's going
- 24:59Speaker 4: to be tough. Now, if they can sort of shore
- 25:01Speaker 4: up some of these zone coverages and maybe get a
- 25:04Speaker 4: little bit more juice out of their four man pass rush,
- 25:06Speaker 4: then okay. Now, now I feel a little bit better
- 25:08Speaker 4: about it.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Okay.
- 25:10Speaker 2: All right.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Eight, five, five patch 500 is the hotline podcast at
- 25:14Speaker 1: Patriots.com is the email address. Let's get into it. Cause
- 25:17Speaker 1: you know, we do have to hurry. Um, Randy's in Providence.
- 25:21Speaker 1: What's up, Randy? Did I hit the button right? Randy. Randy,
- 25:28Speaker 1: you there?
- 25:31Speaker 6: Randy.
- 25:32Speaker 8: No?
- 25:33Speaker 1: I see Matt scrambling. No?
- 25:34Speaker 2: Okay.
- 25:36Speaker 1: No? Okay, nothing to do with us. All right, Randy,
- 25:39Speaker 1: try again some other day. Let's go to Sean in Vancouver.
- 25:43Speaker 1: What's up, Sean?
- 25:45Speaker 2: Hello.
- 25:46Speaker 14: Good to speak with you guys. And I'm looking forward
- 25:48Speaker 14: to this game in Miami. You know, I predict the
- 25:51Speaker 14: Patriots will be much better at tackling than they were
- 25:53Speaker 14: in Chicago. I'm sure that's a huge emphasis in practice
- 25:56Speaker 14: this week. I also predict that A.J. Brown will have
- 25:58Speaker 14: more than four receptions. This won't be a trap game.
- 26:01Speaker 14: As pointed out yesterday, Miami is not a terrible team.
- 26:04Speaker 14: Most fans, like me, they were prior to last week.
- 26:08Speaker 14: The Patriots will not take them lightly. New England needs
- 26:10Speaker 14: a big win. They need this momentum and confidence for
- 26:14Speaker 14: two difficult games before the bye against tough NFC North team.
- 26:18Speaker 14: So go Fats.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Okay.
- 26:20Speaker 4: It was very clear yesterday listening to Vrabel and then
- 26:23Speaker 4: listening to Drake May and just talking to some of
- 26:25Speaker 4: the guys in the locker room. The messaging from Mike
- 26:29Speaker 4: Vrabel this week to talk up the Dolphins like they're
- 26:31Speaker 4: the 85 Bears is very crystal clear to the point
- 26:35Speaker 4: where Drake May even made Paul's point about the opponents
- 26:37Speaker 4: that Miami has faced and how it's been a tough
- 26:40Speaker 4: schedule for them. They've played a lot of really good teams.
- 26:43Speaker 4: They are a bad football team. This is a terrible team.
- 26:49Speaker 4: The Patriots are doing the Belichick thing as best as
- 26:52Speaker 4: they possibly can to make this team sound like they're
- 26:55Speaker 4: a really good football team. Drake may have wanted nothing
- 26:58Speaker 4: to do with, you know, this is the worst pass
- 27:00Speaker 4: defense in football.
- 27:01Speaker 6: He was like.
- 27:03Speaker 4: not to me, they're not. And I was like, all right,
- 27:05Speaker 4: like whatever. Like, yeah, like wanted nothing to do with it.
- 27:09Speaker 4: So they're trying to talk it up and they're trying
- 27:11Speaker 4: to act like this is going to be a challenge.
- 27:14Speaker 5: And I just say, you haven't arrived. Like you've got
- 27:17Speaker 5: a long way to go. You have, I mean, you're
- 27:18Speaker 5: not forcing turnovers. You had your own giveaway in every
- 27:21Speaker 5: single game. Like, it's not like you're the, you know,
- 27:24Speaker 5: this juggernaut that, oh yeah, we just got to take
- 27:26Speaker 5: care of business and we'll be fine.
- 27:27Speaker 6: Like, I think this team, you know, still has a
- 27:29Speaker 6: lot to prove.
- 27:29Speaker 5: So I, I mean, I expect that they would be
- 27:32Speaker 5: like that, but I still think it's reality of, yeah,
- 27:34Speaker 5: you're not this high and mighty team yet.
- 27:36Speaker 6: You haven't proven that to me or to anybody. So
- 27:37Speaker 6: go out there and start to show it.
- 27:39Speaker 2: I mean, it does make sense. This is what coaches
- 27:41Speaker 2: need to do. But you could make a strong argument
- 27:43Speaker 2: just on paper, you know, man for man, this is
- 27:46Speaker 2: the worst roster in football.
- 27:48Speaker 4: I think that is the argument.
- 27:49Speaker 2: I mean, you can make a really good– so, like,
- 27:52Speaker 2: I'm not trying to tell you, like, oh, no, no, no,
- 27:55Speaker 2: they're not as bad as you think. No, they are.
- 27:57Speaker 2: They are. And it's by design. I'm not even being
- 27:59Speaker 2: critical of Miami. I see what the plan is. I
- 28:01Speaker 2: know what they're doing. They've stripped the roster of a
- 28:04Speaker 2: lot of veteran guys that weren't going to be around
- 28:06Speaker 2: the next time they're going to be any good. And
- 28:09Speaker 2: it's basically the one guy that stayed tore his ACL
- 28:12Speaker 2: in A-chan, right? So this is a very common spot
- 28:17Speaker 2: in the NFL, unfortunately, you know, I'd say every two
- 28:22Speaker 2: or three years there's a team that has to do
- 28:24Speaker 2: this because whatever the plan that they were on didn't work.
- 28:29Speaker 1: And this year it's three teams.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Not every team completely dismantled their roster in the offseason
- 28:36Speaker 2: like this. Teams get off to bad starts and then
- 28:39Speaker 2: decide to get rid of guys that aren't expiring contracts.
- 28:42Speaker 2: That happens every year in every sport. That's what the
- 28:45Speaker 2: trade deadline's all about. But this was like, In the offseason,
- 28:50Speaker 2: you could see, like, wow, Jeff Halfley's going to really
- 28:52Speaker 2: have a hard time because of what they're doing. You
- 28:56Speaker 2: just hope that, like we were talking about after that
- 28:59Speaker 2: Jets game, he keeps the players invested. That's what you're
- 29:03Speaker 2: looking for. And that's kind of like back to the
- 29:05Speaker 2: AFC East here, and we talked about the Jets. That
- 29:09Speaker 2: was some of the stuff I didn't see from the
- 29:10Speaker 2: Jets last year. Like, they stripped the roster. We saw
- 29:13Speaker 2: that game, like, in December, or it might even have
- 29:16Speaker 2: been January. It was that late in the year. Yeah.
- 29:18Speaker 2: They had all those guys that weren't really NFL players.
- 29:21Speaker 2: They weren't playing hard at all, even though they weren't
- 29:23Speaker 2: really established players. These guys from Miami, to their credit,
- 29:26Speaker 2: seem like they're still invested.
- 29:27Speaker 4: Well, because a lot of those young guys, they're hoping
- 29:29Speaker 4: are core pieces moving forward.
- 29:31Speaker 6: They haven't been broken yet.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Right.
- 29:32Speaker 2: You wouldn't have thought that those guys that played for
- 29:35Speaker 2: the Jets were in that situation last year either. Yeah,
- 29:38Speaker 2: but they're 2021.
- 29:40Speaker 4: 2026 draft class they're hoping is going to be a
- 29:42Speaker 4: start of their rebuild. So like Caden Proctor and Chris
- 29:45Speaker 4: Johnson and Jacob Rodriguez and Chris Bell and Caleb Douglas,
- 29:49Speaker 4: those are they hope are going to be players for
- 29:52Speaker 4: them moving forward. So there's no reason for those guys
- 29:55Speaker 4: to dog it.
- 29:56Speaker 2: I agree.
- 29:57Speaker 4: They're trying to establish themselves in the league, but I
- 29:59Speaker 4: feel a little bit for Willis because this is finally
- 30:03Speaker 4: getting an opportunity to be the primary starter. And like
- 30:06Speaker 4: in a very, very small sample size, he was a
- 30:09Speaker 4: good starter in Green Bay. And then he gets the
- 30:11Speaker 4: opportunity and they just strip the offense down. Like they
- 30:15Speaker 4: just trade out all the receivers. HN gets hurt. You
- 30:19Speaker 4: can't tell if he can play or not in this situation.
- 30:23Speaker 2: The evaluation for them is so important because the coaches
- 30:26Speaker 2: should be able to tell. The coaches, you talk about
- 30:29Speaker 2: Slowik and some of the things that he's putting together.
- 30:32Speaker 2: He should be able to say he's capable of operating
- 30:38Speaker 2: the system this way. He just doesn't have enough around
- 30:41Speaker 2: him that's helping him out enough. They should be able
- 30:43Speaker 2: to make a determination. I'm not expecting him to win
- 30:45Speaker 2: more than, I don't know, three games.
- 30:47Speaker 4: I think that, yeah.
- 30:48Speaker 2: You know, three or four games, tops.
- 30:50Speaker 1: What's the line?
- 30:52Speaker 2: Seven. That's disrespect for the Patriots.
- 30:55Speaker 6: Well, it's really a 10.
- 30:56Speaker 2: A touchdown road favorite? Plus that team, though? You think
- 30:59Speaker 2: that's disrespectful? Yeah, a little bit. There's only two road
- 31:02Speaker 2: favorites in the whole week.
- 31:03Speaker 1: It's a little bit.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Patriots are one of them.
- 31:05Speaker 1: It's a little bit. Barton Poland, regarding Drake's... He finds
- 31:09Speaker 1: disrespect with every spread.
- 31:11Speaker 2: I told my dad to take the Patriots.
- 31:12Speaker 6: In his Survivor Bowl.
- 31:13Speaker 2: He was chomping up to Chicago last week. Like, that's
- 31:15Speaker 2: disrespectful to put that there only.
- 31:17Speaker 4: Every week he asks me if he can take the Patriots,
- 31:19Speaker 4: and I'm like, this week, Dad, you can take the Patriots.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Barton Poland says, regarding Drake's interception in the Bears game,
- 31:26Speaker 1: Paul mentioned on Tuesday that if Raritan had turned around,
- 31:29Speaker 1: it could potentially have been a DPI. Obviously, it was
- 31:32Speaker 1: a terrible pass regardless, but that got me thinking of
- 31:34Speaker 1: a pretty similar situation from Super Bowl 51. The second-to-last
- 31:40Speaker 1: pass resulted in a DPI that put the Patriots at
- 31:42Speaker 1: the one-yard line. The throw was fairly low. and the
- 31:45Speaker 1: receiver had to turn back to locate the ball, but
- 31:47Speaker 1: he drew the flag and gave his first and goal
- 31:49Speaker 1: at the 1. On the very next play, Brady threw
- 31:52Speaker 1: an absolutely awful fade that could easily have been intercepted.
- 31:55Speaker 1: It was a genuinely terrible throw by Brady, but nobody
- 31:58Speaker 1: remembers that way because James White scored in the next play,
- 32:02Speaker 1: and the rest is history. Here's the question for Paul.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Who was Tom Brady throwing to on each of his
- 32:08Speaker 1: final two passes before the game-winning touchdown and overtime?
- 32:12Speaker 2: Martell has been.
- 32:12Speaker 1: That's true. That's correct. Ding, ding, ding.
- 32:14Speaker 4: I literally just said Martell has been. He threw one
- 32:17Speaker 4: at Danny Amendola in overtime, I think, two on an out,
- 32:21Speaker 4: and he, like, fit it into a keyhole.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 32:24Speaker 4: That one and the one to Hogan along the sideline
- 32:26Speaker 4: are just unbelievable throws.
- 32:29Speaker 2: Yeah, so the other part of what I was talking
- 32:33Speaker 2: about in that play, and I do agree, like, if
- 32:35Speaker 2: Raritan happens to be looking and he tries to fight
- 32:37Speaker 2: back through the defender... The difference in this one is
- 32:42Speaker 2: the linebacker turned around and made a play on the ball.
- 32:45Speaker 2: So he has every right for the ball, too. Now
- 32:48Speaker 2: he's inside. So if he turns around the same way,
- 32:51Speaker 2: it doesn't matter what Raritan does. I didn't want to
- 32:53Speaker 2: make it sound like I was putting Raritan on call
- 32:55Speaker 2: for that interception. So I wanted to make sure. It
- 32:58Speaker 2: was a bad throw. That was on Drake May.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Andre has a question. If someone wanted to hire Mike
- 33:07Speaker 1: Tomlin this offseason... Let's use the Eagles, for example. Would
- 33:11Speaker 1: they have to trade for him since he didn't get
- 33:13Speaker 1: fired and walked away on his own? Is this very
- 33:16Speaker 1: similar to the Sean Payton situation with the Saints?
- 33:18Speaker 2: I believe he was still under contract. I'd have to
- 33:21Speaker 2: know what his contract situation is.
- 33:23Speaker 1: He'll still have his rights.
- 33:24Speaker 6: Sounds like he's under contract through 2027. Yes, I think that, yes.
- 33:29Speaker 6: He signed a three-year deal in 2024.
- 33:30Speaker 2: Yeah, so he walked away. It would be like Payton.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:35Speaker 2: Payton missed a year before he came back, and then
- 33:38Speaker 2: they had to make a trade, right?
- 33:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:40Speaker 2: I think that still happens.
- 33:41Speaker 1: He's under contract until 27, but if he doesn't coach
- 33:44Speaker 1: for them until then, that keeps... That keeps.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Doesn't toll.
- 33:48Speaker 1: It doesn't toll.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Two more. He'd have two more years.
- 33:51Speaker 8: Right.
- 33:52Speaker 6: Oh, geez.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:53Speaker 1: So you're going to have to do a deal with
- 33:55Speaker 1: the Steelers to get Mike Tomlin. Right.
- 33:58Speaker 2: I think Fred has it right.
- 34:00Speaker 4: He's too busy playing Minecraft.
- 34:02Speaker 6: He doesn't have more time for Minecraft.
- 34:03Speaker 3: He had the time then.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Makes you think, Alex.
- 34:08Speaker 6: Makes you think. Spending a lot of time on that thing.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Well, I work on Minecraft.
- 34:14Speaker 1: He's got that high voice, too.
- 34:15Speaker 6: Oh, I get it, though. I think that's a great
- 34:16Speaker 6: way to... It's pretty good, though.
- 34:17Speaker 2: I think he does a pretty good job.
- 34:19Speaker 6: He does Minecraft? Yes.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Basically, yes, on Minecraft.
- 34:23Speaker 3: It was incredible.
- 34:24Speaker 2: The answer to both questions is yes. I don't know
- 34:26Speaker 2: from Minecraft.
- 34:27Speaker 1: The attention to detail was really impressive. Yeah, it really was. Yeah,
- 34:31Speaker 1: he's doing a good job.
- 34:33Speaker 4: He's not afraid to call people out, which usually guys
- 34:36Speaker 4: that are just out of the league or trying to
- 34:38Speaker 4: still stay in the league, they get a little bit
- 34:41Speaker 4: cold feet of criticizing people.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:44Speaker 4: Not Mike Tomlin.
- 34:45Speaker 1: I think he's better than Garrett.
- 34:47Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 34:48Speaker 4: Well, Garrett doesn't want to criticize anybody.
- 34:50Speaker 1: By a lot.
- 34:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Randy's in Providence. What's up, Randy?
- 34:56Speaker 6: Hey.
- 34:57Speaker 15: Sorry about earlier. I'm at work and had to drop
- 34:59Speaker 15: the call on. And, Colin, you guys kind of touched
- 35:03Speaker 15: on it earlier, but you guys don't think there's an issue,
- 35:06Speaker 15: like the Colts that just don't want to do business
- 35:09Speaker 15: with the Patriots, very much like Tennessee? And, like, if
- 35:12Speaker 15: there is, do you guys think that's, like, a huge disadvantage,
- 35:15Speaker 15: like that two teams in the NFL potentially just won't
- 35:18Speaker 15: do business with them?
- 35:19Speaker 1: Well, if it's true, I mean, it doesn't help. But,
- 35:22Speaker 1: you know, whatever.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know. Maybe it is true. I don't know.
- 35:28Speaker 4: I don't see that being the case with the Colts.
- 35:31Speaker 4: But maybe I'm right off.
- 35:33Speaker 15: It feels to me like an owner that's standing on
- 35:37Speaker 15: the sidelines looking over the coach's shoulder might be also
- 35:41Speaker 15: into the details enough to be like, you screwed my dad,
- 35:44Speaker 15: you know?
- 35:45Speaker 1: Could be.
- 35:45Speaker 6: That's what I said.
- 35:46Speaker 5: I could see, you know, like you're young and you're
- 35:48Speaker 5: not in charge and you're watching somebody screw over your
- 35:51Speaker 5: dad and your organization and you might hold a grudge.
- 35:53Speaker 6: That's a long freaking grudge. I know it's a long grudge,
- 35:55Speaker 6: but people hold grudges.
- 35:56Speaker 1: And remember, they're the ones that started the flaky, aren't they?
- 36:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that's different. That's the other side. That would be
- 36:03Speaker 2: why the patriots wouldn't want it. Yeah, and maybe we've
- 36:05Speaker 2: said some things.
- 36:06Speaker 6: And I don't see that.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Maybe it's kind of a little bit of a war
- 36:09Speaker 1: back and forth, and we don't have good relations.
- 36:11Speaker 8: Maybe.
- 36:12Speaker 15: Well, yeah, and I mean, it's a long grudge, sure,
- 36:15Speaker 15: but imagine it's your dad and someone screwed him over
- 36:18Speaker 15: and your dad died hating him.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Okay.
- 36:20Speaker 15: That grudge is never dying. You know what I mean?
- 36:24Speaker 15: And I don't know. It just seems like a.
- 36:26Speaker 6: Honor your father.
- 36:28Speaker 15: Disadvantage, you know? Especially with them being the teams like
- 36:31Speaker 15: Tennessee and Indy that are kind of big sellers right now.
- 36:35Speaker 15: Are there any other teams that are sellers that, you know,
- 36:38Speaker 15: you could really kind of pick up a piece from?
- 36:42Speaker 2: Chargers?
- 36:43Speaker 4: Maybe.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Cardinals?
- 36:45Speaker 4: I mean, there's a bunch of bad teams. I don't know.
- 36:48Speaker 6: Maybe.
- 36:50Speaker 15: Can you guys remember times historically throughout the NFL where
- 36:53Speaker 15: this sort of pettiness has gone on? Do you think
- 36:55Speaker 15: it's common because billionaires just aren't used to being spurned
- 36:59Speaker 15: or like.
- 36:59Speaker 16: Did you.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Ever hear of Al Davis?
- 37:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I was just going to say Al Davis.
- 37:04Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 37:04Speaker 4: I just don't know if like... I understand what Randy's
- 37:07Speaker 4: saying but we don't know that this pettiness is going on.
- 37:12Speaker 2: I honestly don't really think it's a big deal at all.
- 37:14Speaker 6: Neither do I.
- 37:15Speaker 2: I think these kinds of things happen all the time.
- 37:17Speaker 2: That's why I said did you ever hear of Al Davis?
- 37:18Speaker 2: Al Davis had a thing with every team in the league.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Didn't prevent him from.
- 37:21Speaker 4: He had a thing with the league.
- 37:22Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying.
- 37:24Speaker 1: You know, this.
- 37:26Speaker 2: this stuff, I'm sure there are, there are grudges. I,
- 37:28Speaker 2: I'll bet you there are teams, Randy, that would rather
- 37:31Speaker 2: not deal within their divisions, you know, and stuff like
- 37:34Speaker 2: that too. You know, I, I, I think there are
- 37:37Speaker 2: probably restrictions, whether they're perceived or otherwise, that exist across
- 37:41Speaker 2: the league.
- 37:42Speaker 5: Well, both those big trades from the last few days
- 37:43Speaker 5: are AFC to NFC, right? I mean, it's a little
- 37:46Speaker 5: bit more common.
- 37:47Speaker 2: It's one of the things I gave Belichick a lot
- 37:49Speaker 2: of credit for because he didn't care. Thanks, Randy. In general,
- 37:52Speaker 2: he wanted the best deal. I'm not telling you he
- 37:54Speaker 2: made the best deal all the time. Sometimes I think...
- 37:56Speaker 2: Sometimes I think he got caught up in this stuff too.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Like Jimmy Garoppolo. Like sending Richard Seymour to the Raiders
- 38:04Speaker 2: or like Jamie Collins to Cleveland.
- 38:06Speaker 4: Or Jimmy Garoppolo to the 49ers. But that was the
- 38:09Speaker 4: other way. Well, he got less for Jimmy Garoppolo.
- 38:14Speaker 1: No, he's talking about inter-conference or out-of-conference.
- 38:17Speaker 2: The biggest example of him not caring about what team
- 38:21Speaker 2: is Drew going to Buffalo because he didn't fear Bledsoe
- 38:25Speaker 2: stopping him from doing anything that he wanted to do.
- 38:27Speaker 2: And he's right. Buffalo gave him a first-round pick. For
- 38:30Speaker 2: him to say, I don't want to send him to
- 38:32Speaker 2: a division rival would be foolish. And I think some
- 38:35Speaker 2: teams do that. Some teams take a lesser deal because
- 38:39Speaker 2: they don't want to go in the division. And I
- 38:40Speaker 2: always credited Belichick for not doing that.
- 38:43Speaker 4: There's a lot of people that thought the Celtics trained
- 38:45Speaker 4: Jalen Brown to the Sixers was a mistake. Just because
- 38:48Speaker 4: it was an Eastern Conference opponent. Nothing to do with
- 38:52Speaker 4: anything else. But the Jimmy Garoppolo thing, he just Gave
- 38:56Speaker 4: him away.
- 38:57Speaker 9: To the 49ers.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Because he thought it was a good situation for Garoppolo, which, again,
- 39:02Speaker 2: is wrong. Like, that's one of the times where he
- 39:06Speaker 2: didn't do what I'm giving him credit for. Right.
- 39:09Speaker 1: You know?
- 39:09Speaker 2: Like, take the best deal, not something that you think
- 39:12Speaker 2: is going to set your guy up.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Wasn't the rumor that Cleveland was willing to give, like,
- 39:17Speaker 1: three first-round picks for him or something like that?
- 39:19Speaker 2: Adam Schechter said that they wouldn't take four first-round picks
- 39:21Speaker 2: for him.
- 39:22Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 39:23Speaker 1: We wouldn't take that.
- 39:24Speaker 2: The Patriots wouldn't take four first.
- 39:25Speaker 4: They took a mid-second rounder.
- 39:26Speaker 2: And they took a second rounder instead.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Technically, he would. but didn't Mary Kay Abbott or whatever
- 39:32Speaker 1: her name is... Say that the Browns were willing to
- 39:35Speaker 1: give multiple.
- 39:35Speaker 2: Mary Kay Cabot.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Right.
- 39:37Speaker 2: She's a Hall of Famer.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Were willing to give multiple first-round picks for Garoppolo.
- 39:42Speaker 6: That was the rumor.
- 39:43Speaker 2: I think that was the story.
- 39:44Speaker 4: There was definitely more. I don't know if it was
- 39:46Speaker 4: multiple first-round picks, but they definitely could have gotten more
- 39:49Speaker 4: for Garoppolo.
- 39:50Speaker 2: Jeffrey Simmons just got two first-round picks. I think they
- 39:52Speaker 2: could have gotten at least one first-round pick for Jimmy Garoppolo.
- 39:56Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 39:56Speaker 4: But he went to the Niners and made a Super
- 39:58Speaker 4: Bowl and made Bill look good because he turned out
- 40:00Speaker 4: to be good.
- 40:02Speaker 1: All right. Sabah is in North Carolina. What's up, Sabah?
- 40:07Speaker 17: Hey there, gentlemen and lady. I got questions for you guys.
- 40:11Speaker 17: First of all, don't underestimate Miami. The Patriots, if I'm
- 40:14Speaker 17: not mistaken, had difficulty winning at Miami. I think when
- 40:17Speaker 17: Drake made one.
- 40:18Speaker 2: I think it was.
- 40:19Speaker 14: The rookie year, maybe last year.
- 40:20Speaker 17: It was kind of unusual. So, Paul, don't talk them
- 40:24Speaker 17: down like you did Jaguars. That's right.
- 40:28Speaker 1: We all remember that, Sabah.
- 40:29Speaker 2: I didn't talk the Jaguars down. As a matter of fact,
- 40:31Speaker 2: I picked the Jaguars to win the game. I could
- 40:34Speaker 2: have sworn.
- 40:34Speaker 17: Was it you that said it was going.
- 40:36Speaker 2: To be a beatdown? No, I kind of did, but
- 40:39Speaker 2: not for the team that you think I did.
- 40:41Speaker 8: Oh, okay.
- 40:43Speaker 17: Anyway, let's don't underestimate me. They're all in the NFL.
- 40:45Speaker 17: My question to you guys is, Will we ever see
- 40:49Speaker 17: up-tempo by the offense? And why haven't we seen it yet?
- 40:53Speaker 17: We're like, did a quick count with 12 seconds to go,
- 40:57Speaker 17: and they caught the Patriots out of position when they were, like,
- 41:00Speaker 17: faking what they were doing. But then by the time
- 41:01Speaker 17: the snap happened, they went into fake, so they never
- 41:04Speaker 17: went in position. Is there any possibility that the Patriots
- 41:07Speaker 17: will do stuff like that?
- 41:09Speaker 4: Well, they were quick snapping. I would say that's a
- 41:11Speaker 4: little bit different than up-tempo. Like, they were still huddling.
- 41:15Speaker 4: but they were quick snapping. Once they got to the
- 41:17Speaker 4: line of scrimmage, they weren't letting the play clock bleed
- 41:20Speaker 4: at all. They were just getting up there and snapping
- 41:22Speaker 4: the football. And Kevin Byard talked about it. It caught
- 41:24Speaker 4: the Patriots off guard defensively. It was something that the
- 41:27Speaker 4: bears used and used and manipulated. Well, I, I always
- 41:32Speaker 4: think like uptempo, like you look at the stats and stuff,
- 41:34Speaker 4: like if you're in a lot of two minute situations,
- 41:37Speaker 4: if you're in a lot of end of game situations,
- 41:39Speaker 4: then that inflates like how much you're running uptempo. I
- 41:43Speaker 4: don't think that that's like a way of life that
- 41:46Speaker 4: they want to be. Like they're not going to be
- 41:47Speaker 4: Chip Kelly and all of a sudden start running a
- 41:49Speaker 4: bunch of no huddle and stuff like that. I mean,
- 41:52Speaker 4: is it a change up that they could maybe use? Sure.
- 41:55Speaker 4: But I think that they look at it more as like,
- 41:57Speaker 4: if we get you into certain personnel grouping, you know,
- 42:01Speaker 4: we get you in your base defense against 12 and
- 42:04Speaker 4: we like Raritan on this linebacker. And so we're going
- 42:06Speaker 4: to rush to the line of scrimmage and play tempo
- 42:10Speaker 4: and try to keep you in that personnel grouping. But
- 42:13Speaker 4: that type of stuff isn't going to, like, bear out statistically.
- 42:16Speaker 2: But there is a difference between up-tempo and no huddle.
- 42:18Speaker 1: No huddle can simply be getting to the line so
- 42:22Speaker 1: that you can't do those adjustments.
- 42:23Speaker 2: That's what Evan's talking about.
- 42:24Speaker 1: Personnel. But still take your time at the line, you know?
- 42:28Speaker 6: You could do that, yeah.
- 42:31Speaker 4: I think that, you know, I don't know. I don't
- 42:33Speaker 4: think that that's, like, the secret sauce that's going to, like,
- 42:37Speaker 4: turn them into this, like, juggernaut offense, but.
- 42:42Speaker 4: I think those are more things that are change-ups, not
- 42:46Speaker 4: like this is our primary stuff.
- 42:47Speaker 6: Are you surprised, though?
- 42:48Speaker 5: Because I felt like they did it a lot in
- 42:49Speaker 5: training camp, and we've seen kind of none of it.
- 42:53Speaker 4: No, because Josh has always really operated at more of
- 42:56Speaker 4: a methodical pace because of all the stuff that they
- 42:58Speaker 4: want to do pre-snap. So in order to be a
- 43:01Speaker 4: tempo team like that, the one thing you're taking away
- 43:04Speaker 4: from yourself is, the adjustments at the line of scrimmage.
- 43:09Speaker 4: Like you just are kind of getting on the ball
- 43:10Speaker 4: and running the play. So I, I, I'm not like,
- 43:14Speaker 4: as I don't think that he's outside of like, cause
- 43:17Speaker 4: that was really Bill O'Brien that was doing that with Brady.
- 43:20Speaker 4: And like, you know, that when 2010, 2011 period of time,
- 43:24Speaker 4: I never really seen McDaniels be somebody that like really
- 43:29Speaker 4: buys in all the way into tempo and like going fast.
- 43:33Speaker 2: What I've seen. And I agree with Evan on this,
- 43:36Speaker 2: and Mike, I'm curious when we look back at training camp,
- 43:40Speaker 2: when did you, you remember seeing like the hurry up
- 43:44Speaker 2: more often than not? Cause I have something in my
- 43:46Speaker 2: mind and that's basically when they made a play.
- 43:51Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 43:51Speaker 2: Right. So they might get like a chunk play for
- 43:54Speaker 2: 25 yards and they would run to the line. And
- 43:57Speaker 2: I think that's been a staple. And Evan explained kind
- 44:00Speaker 2: of what the thought is. McDaniels has done that a lot.
- 44:04Speaker 2: And I used to, It used to drive me crazy.
- 44:06Speaker 2: He did it a lot. Like if they would get
- 44:08Speaker 2: a big play that would get him down like inside
- 44:09Speaker 2: the five yard line. And Fred, what did I used
- 44:12Speaker 2: to call it? Hurry up and fail. Right. They would
- 44:15Speaker 2: run to the line of scrimmage, keep the same personnel,
- 44:18Speaker 2: and they would try to run it in and get
- 44:19Speaker 2: stuff in the backfield like two yard loss. And I
- 44:21Speaker 2: was like, everything you're doing offensively is working. They can't stop.
- 44:25Speaker 2: This is like I'm talking about the height of Brady.
- 44:27Speaker 2: Like they can't stop you. Why are you running to
- 44:30Speaker 2: the line just so you can outfox them and get
- 44:32Speaker 2: them in their nickel package and you're going to try
- 44:34Speaker 2: to run it in and then you're not ready and
- 44:36Speaker 2: you're rushing and it ended up not working. I think
- 44:38Speaker 2: that's what they like to do in terms of the
- 44:41Speaker 2: hurry up is what Evan's talking about. Catching teams with
- 44:44Speaker 2: personnel on the field that they think works to their
- 44:47Speaker 2: advantage and they don't want them to sub. And I
- 44:50Speaker 2: think that's what they were doing in the summer a lot.
- 44:53Speaker 2: They would hit a ball to Romeo Dobbs. They would
- 44:56Speaker 2: hit a ball to A.J. Brown. Run up. they would
- 44:59Speaker 2: run to the line. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it was
- 45:02Speaker 2: more often than not. That's how I remember.
- 45:04Speaker 7: It, too.
- 45:06Speaker 5: But I just wonder why can't you run to the
- 45:08Speaker 5: line and let Drake take a step back and survey
- 45:11Speaker 5: and then let him call a play and run it.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Yeah, we haven't seen that much in the regular season,
- 45:16Speaker 2: I agree.
- 45:18Speaker 4: They're going faster this year than they were last year.
- 45:21Speaker 4: Last year they were near the bottom of the league
- 45:22Speaker 4: in pace. This year they're in the middle of the pack.
- 45:25Speaker 4: But the two slowest offenses in the league last year,
- 45:30Speaker 4: the Patriots and the Seahawks.
- 45:32Speaker 2: And I would also venture to say, this is one
- 45:36Speaker 2: of those, you always make fun of me, I just
- 45:38Speaker 2: pull them out. I'd venture to say they've spent more
- 45:41Speaker 2: time trailing this year already in seven games than they
- 45:44Speaker 2: did the entirety of last year. That, to me, lends
- 45:47Speaker 2: itself to the pace. To Evan's point, the two best
- 45:51Speaker 2: teams in football... that were winning every game in the
- 45:54Speaker 2: second half that they played, you know, spent a lot
- 45:57Speaker 2: of time running the ball. And when you run the
- 45:59Speaker 2: ball killing clock to kill the clock, you're snapping it,
- 46:02Speaker 2: you know, in the last five seconds, three seconds of
- 46:04Speaker 2: the play clock throughout the second half, you're going to,
- 46:07Speaker 2: that's going to slow your tempo down.
- 46:08Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 46:09Speaker 2: That's pace is slower.
- 46:10Speaker 4: That's why I brought up like, you know, it's all
- 46:13Speaker 4: kind of situational, you know, like, are you trailing in
- 46:16Speaker 4: the fourth quarter and you need to run no huddle
- 46:18Speaker 4: because you're trying to get back in games. They don't
- 46:20Speaker 4: find themselves, luckily, they don't find themselves in a ton
- 46:23Speaker 4: of those situations.
- 46:24Speaker 1: Todd and Garner, I think this is about the injury
- 46:29Speaker 1: and Paul and Evan being so positive. I think that
- 46:32Speaker 1: what we are seeing, the return to the starting lineup
- 46:35Speaker 1: for the team as injuries are getting resolved, this is
- 46:37Speaker 1: a good thing, Fred. We fought through some tough times
- 46:41Speaker 1: and still are in the fight. No hands need to
- 46:44Speaker 1: be chopped off. Miami is going to face a pissed
- 46:47Speaker 1: Pats team tomorrow. That let one go against the Bears.
- 46:51Speaker 1: Patriots 44, Miami 17. Calling it now, Fred. Patriots take
- 46:55Speaker 1: the playoffs by taking the East. I agree with that.
- 46:58Speaker 1: I still think we're going to win the East. I'm good.
- 47:01Speaker 2: Why can't you? I'm all for that.
- 47:03Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 47:04Speaker 5: I mean, 3-0 in the division would be pretty nice. But,
- 47:06Speaker 5: I mean, that Buffalo game is going to be a doozy.
- 47:09Speaker 6: And that's what.
- 47:10Speaker 2: Happened last year. Just got to hope it matters.
- 47:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 47:12Speaker 6: That's all.
- 47:15Speaker 1: Let's see. Christian with a T-I-A-N writes in, any concern
- 47:22Speaker 1: that Vrabel is too soft on his guys or has
- 47:26Speaker 1: a soft spot for his guys? Belichick and Parcells had
- 47:29Speaker 1: their guys. Belichick in particular was cutthroat, though. Usually got
- 47:34Speaker 1: rid of a guy a year early rather than a
- 47:36Speaker 1: year late. How many times did we hear that over
- 47:38Speaker 1: the years? Parcells, I don't remember as much. Whether it's A.J. Brown,
- 47:42Speaker 1: jury is still out. Landry, good for basically five games. Moses,
- 47:46Speaker 1: who looks like he's 93 years old. after every play
- 47:49Speaker 1: when he has to peel himself off the turf to
- 47:52Speaker 1: get up. Spillane, who definitely has lost a step. Is
- 47:55Speaker 1: he too easy on those guys?
- 47:58Speaker 5: I could hear that about the Titan guys. I mean,
- 48:00Speaker 5: you know, I don't know. I've been disappointed with Bayard. And,
- 48:05Speaker 5: you know, I wonder about Harold Landry. Like, is there
- 48:07Speaker 5: a realistic chance that he even has the chance to
- 48:11Speaker 5: return this year and be an impactful player?
- 48:13Speaker 6: I don't know. And You know, it's it's it's I've
- 48:16Speaker 6: never seen that. Maybe you guys can can clue me
- 48:17Speaker 6: in on this.
- 48:18Speaker 5: But this seems like a unique situation in my mind
- 48:21Speaker 5: of somebody who played till the end of last season.
- 48:24Speaker 5: And then you just don't really know what's up. And,
- 48:26Speaker 5: you know, you know, he was battling something for half
- 48:28Speaker 5: of last year. You don't know what surgery he got.
- 48:30Speaker 5: You know, and in a realistic world, to me, you're
- 48:33Speaker 5: saying this is great. Harold Landry is going to come back.
- 48:36Speaker 5: He's one of our prize pieces from last year. He
- 48:38Speaker 5: was really good in the first two games before he
- 48:39Speaker 5: got hurt. But nobody's thinking that.
- 48:41Speaker 6: And now everybody's just thinking, will he even ever get
- 48:44Speaker 6: back on the field?
- 48:45Speaker 1: I mean, he's not taking up a roster spot at
- 48:47Speaker 1: this point.
- 48:48Speaker 2: And I would just argue, in terms of whether he's
- 48:51Speaker 2: being easy or not, what were they supposed to do
- 48:55Speaker 2: with Harold Landry? If they cut him, I think the
- 48:58Speaker 2: money is probably similar.
- 48:59Speaker 6: It's hurt.
- 49:00Speaker 4: The only thing he could have is if he retired.
- 49:02Speaker 3: Right.
- 49:03Speaker 2: If he retired, then that sort of changes things. But
- 49:07Speaker 2: I think it's an unfortunate situation. He's on PUP.
- 49:10Speaker 1: Right.
- 49:10Speaker 11: And I think it was so important to bring those
- 49:12Speaker 11: guys in and establish the culture that they established last year.
- 49:16Speaker 11: So I don't even think you can make the call
- 49:19Speaker 11: on if he's too soft. on those guys until you
- 49:20Speaker 11: see like how it plays out with Landry, how it
- 49:23Speaker 11: plays out with these guys towards the end.
- 49:25Speaker 4: I wouldn't call it soft. I would say in player acquisition,
- 49:29Speaker 4: they favor some of those guys.
- 49:32Speaker 2: Absolutely. He's gone after guys that he's familiar and comfortable with.
- 49:35Speaker 4: And I think that that's a fair approach because they,
- 49:38Speaker 4: to Alex's point, they know the culture, they know the
- 49:41Speaker 4: scheme fit, they know, you know, that sort of thing,
- 49:44Speaker 4: but was 33-year-old Kevin Bayard the best option at safety
- 49:51Speaker 4: this offseason?
- 49:52Speaker 2: Fair question.
- 49:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's, you know... But also, to be.
- 49:56Speaker 3: Fair, look at the numbers he put up last year.
- 49:59Speaker 2: He did.
- 49:59Speaker 4: He did, and, you know, the ball found him, and
- 50:02Speaker 4: this year the ball is not finding him as much. So, like,
- 50:06Speaker 4: I think that that's... I'm more... Less worried about what
- 50:10Speaker 4: the emailer was driving at of him not benching those guys.
- 50:13Speaker 4: Those are the guys. Those are your guys now.
- 50:16Speaker 2: Morgan Moses was one of the guys he mentioned. What
- 50:20Speaker 2: is the example of Mike Rabel being easy? I'm not
- 50:23Speaker 2: picking on Christian. He's one of my favorites. He knows that.
- 50:25Speaker 2: But he's being easy on Morgan Moses. Morgan Moses has
- 50:28Speaker 2: been a warrior this year. He clearly has not been
- 50:33Speaker 2: healthy enough to play in some of the games that
- 50:35Speaker 2: he's played in. and he's been out there generally competing.
- 50:38Speaker 2: He hasn't gotten killed in these games. He's had some struggles.
- 50:41Speaker 2: I'm not ignoring that.
- 50:42Speaker 1: Tough matchups, too.
- 50:42Speaker 2: I'm not ignoring the struggles that he's had.
- 50:44Speaker 4: It's like one or two plays a game where he
- 50:46Speaker 4: just doesn't have the explosiveness.
- 50:47Speaker 2: And he's had some penalties. He's not been as sharp
- 50:50Speaker 2: as he was last year, but I don't see that
- 50:53Speaker 2: as an example of the coaches being easy on him.
- 50:55Speaker 2: What is your option?
- 50:57Speaker 4: I just hope that they don't favor the familiarity too much.
- 51:03Speaker 6: They're kind of running out of it, aren't they? Yeah,
- 51:05Speaker 6: maybe a little bit.
- 51:05Speaker 1: There's only so many guys.
- 51:07Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, Bayard, A.J.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Brown.
- 51:11Speaker 4: There's other players available. Now, I guess maybe you could
- 51:14Speaker 4: say the Packer tie, but, like, Romeo Dobbs wasn't a
- 51:16Speaker 4: Vrabel guy. He may be an Elliott Wolfe guy, but
- 51:18Speaker 4: not a Vrabel guy. You know, Milton Williams wasn't a
- 51:21Speaker 4: guy that he had to... They didn't have ties to
- 51:23Speaker 4: Morgan Moses.
- 51:24Speaker 3: Yeah, no.
- 51:24Speaker 1: He's just.
- 51:25Speaker 4: Now he's one of their guys.
- 51:26Speaker 1: Right.
- 51:26Speaker 4: Like, you know, so, like, they do both, but... But
- 51:31Speaker 4: I think every coach.
- 51:33Speaker 1: You know, favors veterans in a way that they have
- 51:36Speaker 1: more leash than the younger guys.
- 51:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 51:39Speaker 4: That's natural.
- 51:40Speaker 6: I think that that's, you know, a good thing.
- 51:41Speaker 5: I mean, it's seeing these guys get days off, and
- 51:44Speaker 5: that's part of what makes Brable a player's coach, I think,
- 51:47Speaker 5: is that he understands the wear and tear.
- 51:49Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 51:49Speaker 5: I remember how interesting it was last year to see
- 51:52Speaker 5: guys come out in the middle of practice. Like, I
- 51:53Speaker 5: had never seen that before. Yesterday with Daquan Jones. You
- 51:55Speaker 5: were there and you're not, you know.
- 51:56Speaker 4: Daquan Jones wasn't out there when we were out there,
- 51:59Speaker 4: and then he ended up practicing in a limited time.
- 52:02Speaker 4: You know, capacity.
- 52:02Speaker 1: Dalton in Illinois, this is kind of a straw man email,
- 52:05Speaker 1: but anyway, I think everyone who is dogging on the
- 52:09Speaker 1: Patriots being 4-3 need to put it into perspective. Every
- 52:13Speaker 1: loss this season was to a division winner and playoff
- 52:15Speaker 1: team of last year. We are beating the teams we
- 52:18Speaker 1: should and losing to teams that are really good. As
- 52:21Speaker 1: we get healthy, I think we'll rattle off more and
- 52:23Speaker 1: more wins, including more against good teams. No real question here.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Just think perception matters for this team.
- 52:31Speaker 14: Season.
- 52:32Speaker 1: Is everyone dogging the Patriots for being 4-3?
- 52:35Speaker 2: Not that I've heard. I don't think so.
- 52:37Speaker 6: No, I think it was in the neighborhood of what
- 52:39Speaker 6: I expected.
- 52:39Speaker 1: I mean, people realize they're hurt. They're kind of struggling
- 52:42Speaker 1: through that.
- 52:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I've actually heard the opposite.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:45Speaker 2: It's that, like, somehow they're being credited with being 4-3.
- 52:50Speaker 1: They weathered the storm. Yeah.
- 52:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that the issue is that they don't
- 52:54Speaker 4: have as many cupcakes on the schedule as they did
- 52:57Speaker 4: last year.
- 52:57Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 52:58Speaker 4: So like these games against the jets and the dolphins
- 53:00Speaker 4: are must wins to me because they, they need to
- 53:02Speaker 4: inflate their wind total by beating up on these bad
- 53:04Speaker 4: teams that they do have. But then after this, like,
- 53:07Speaker 4: you know, I just watched a Packers lions from last week.
- 53:11Speaker 4: Those that's two good teams. Those are two tough games.
- 53:14Speaker 4: You know, the lions defense, not very good, but their
- 53:16Speaker 4: offense is really good. And you know, that, that, that's
- 53:19Speaker 4: going to be hard. The Vikings game is going to
- 53:20Speaker 4: be hard. The chiefs game is going to be hard.
- 53:22Speaker 4: The Broncos game is going to be hard. So like
- 53:24Speaker 4: they don't have, The Chargers, the Dolphins, the Jets, you
- 53:28Speaker 4: have to clean up in these games. It's hard to
- 53:30Speaker 4: get to 10 wins if you're not winning the ones
- 53:32Speaker 4: you should win.
- 53:33Speaker 5: It's not hard to see them 5-5 at the bye.
- 53:35Speaker 5: That's not crazy to think about.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Ben in Amesbury, please tell us what caused Mike to
- 53:40Speaker 1: burst out laughing and point at the TV during Sabah's call.
- 53:45Speaker 3: Myself.
- 53:45Speaker 6: I will. So.
- 53:47Speaker 5: I got a call from my dad last night as
- 53:49Speaker 5: I was going to Costco, and I was like, hey, dad.
- 53:50Speaker 2: Let me call you back. And he's like, Mike, you're
- 53:52Speaker 2: on TV.
- 53:53Speaker 6: And I'm like, what? Why? He's like, you were interviewed
- 53:55Speaker 6: in A.J.
- 53:56Speaker 1: Brown.
- 53:56Speaker 6: I'm like, well, I was.
- 53:57Speaker 5: And then I realized, like, whenever he knows scrums, you
- 53:59Speaker 5: know you're standing right next to him. I finally saw
- 54:02Speaker 5: a shot, and it's literally like a two-shot of A.J.
- 54:05Speaker 5: Brown and me right next to it, and it was
- 54:07Speaker 5: just way too much deuce.
- 54:08Speaker 4: It was striking.
- 54:09Speaker 1: But the look on your face was like Mr. Inquisitive.
- 54:12Speaker 1: You're so conscious that you're on it.
- 54:15Speaker 6: Did I do like the, yeah, that makes sense. I
- 54:18Speaker 6: get what he's saying.
- 54:19Speaker 11: You raised one of your eyebrows a little to your head.
- 54:24Speaker 4: Deuce got right in there. There was some grousing about this, Fred,
- 54:26Speaker 4: yesterday about A.J.
- 54:28Speaker 1: Brown.
- 54:29Speaker 4: Decided to do a scrum at his locker.
- 54:31Speaker 3: Well, it was insane to watch it all play out.
- 54:33Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 54:34Speaker 4: You know how the media gets. Everybody, you know, running.
- 54:38Speaker 6: It was kind of like Diggs.
- 54:39Speaker 5: Last year, Diggs used to do his press conferences always
- 54:41Speaker 5: at his locker, and it was always very, very busy.
- 54:44Speaker 5: But sometimes it's hard to get in there. They start,
- 54:46Speaker 5: you can't get in. So I got in, and I
- 54:48Speaker 5: had Reese's phone, NBC Sports, Boston's mic.
- 54:51Speaker 6: I was all up in there.
- 54:52Speaker 4: That's because you're a team player.
- 54:55Speaker 1: You were part of his PR team.
- 54:56Speaker 2: Well, it looked like a two-shot.
- 54:57Speaker 6: That's why I was like, why? Pan left.
- 55:00Speaker 2: Get me out of there. Good job.
- 55:02Speaker 1: Speaking of the media, Pete in Jupiter, Florida, formerly Ottawa,
- 55:07Speaker 1: found out a few weeks ago that all you guys
- 55:09Speaker 1: are vertically challenged. I was wondering why it seems like
- 55:12Speaker 1: most sports journalists are so short, it makes sense as
- 55:15Speaker 1: to why you all never became athletes.
- 55:18Speaker 2: I would say not all.
- 55:19Speaker 1: Mike's not short.
- 55:21Speaker 2: Mike's not short.
- 55:22Speaker 4: Phil Perry's not short. Taylor's not short. Brian Hines is
- 55:26Speaker 4: not short. So, you know, there's me, and then there's, like, Reese.
- 55:29Speaker 6: Well, the guys that.
- 55:31Speaker 1: They see, like, Adam Schefter and all those guys.
- 55:34Speaker 4: Yeah, but on our beat, Doug's pretty tall, too. Like,
- 55:37Speaker 4: on our beat, we have some taller guys.
- 55:40Speaker 3: Interesting.
- 55:40Speaker 2: Callie is not a small guy.
- 55:41Speaker 3: Callie is not, like, a giant, but not a short guy.
- 55:44Speaker 1: No. So.
- 55:46Speaker 4: We got some, we got a good mix.
- 55:47Speaker 3: Probably hit six.
- 55:48Speaker 6: Ben Bowen's not very tall.
- 55:49Speaker 2: No, he's small.
- 55:50Speaker 6: He's small.
- 55:51Speaker 2: But, but right on our show right here, Mike's not short.
- 55:53Speaker 3: I'm like five, six ish.
- 55:55Speaker 4: But, but the email is right. We, Alex is five,
- 55:59Speaker 4: six ish. We, we all, we all wanted to be
- 56:02Speaker 4: professional athletes at one point in time in our life.
- 56:05Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 56:05Speaker 4: We're not good enough. So now we talk about sports.
- 56:07Speaker 4: There's probably some truth to that.
- 56:09Speaker 1: Like, yeah, I think it's rare that someone who got
- 56:11Speaker 1: into sports journalism didn't like to play sports.
- 56:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I think all of us, when we were 13,
- 56:18Speaker 4: probably were like, we're going to make it, and then
- 56:20Speaker 4: you don't.
- 56:21Speaker 2: And if you were really, really good, you probably didn't
- 56:24Speaker 2: go into sports journalism. Now, there's a difference between the
- 56:27Speaker 2: ex-athlete that's an analyst now. That's not sports journalism. I'm sorry.
- 56:31Speaker 2: It's not. It's not the same thing. Nor what we
- 56:34Speaker 2: do here is no longer sports journalism. No, we're not.
- 56:37Speaker 5: Breaking news that's what was funny to me about guy
- 56:40Speaker 5: uh i've mentioned to you bj schecter who uh he's
- 56:43Speaker 5: been around forever but in high school he was working
- 56:46Speaker 5: for the metro west daily news like he was covering
- 56:49Speaker 5: high school games while he was in high school it
- 56:50Speaker 5: was kind of one of the rare people that.
- 56:52Speaker 2: I did that you know what covered games that i
- 56:53Speaker 2: played in charms that's why i quoted the coach i
- 56:57Speaker 2: asked him before i said can i quote you he's
- 57:00Speaker 2: like yeah he goes don't make me look stupid.
- 57:03Speaker 11: Chris Cotillo from MassLive was breaking MLB trades as a
- 57:07Speaker 11: high schooler.
- 57:07Speaker 3: Where did he go?
- 57:08Speaker 4: Shams was breaking news in college.
- 57:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 57:12Speaker 4: Shams Sharania. He was already like an NBA insider. He's
- 57:16Speaker 4: still in college.
- 57:18Speaker 2: All right.
- 57:18Speaker 1: Well, listen, we're going to take a break. We have
- 57:20Speaker 1: more calls, more emails, then we're going to do our picks.

- 59:23Speaker 6: Age and eligibility varies by jurisdiction.
- 59:26Speaker 7: Yeah, first off, I think they're really buying into it.
- 59:29Speaker 7: kind of coaching, the new coaching, um, regime. And I
- 59:32Speaker 7: know they're, um, they're playing good football, you know, to
- 59:35Speaker 7: be honest, I think, you know, especially defensively, they do
- 59:37Speaker 7: a lot of different things, variety wise. Um, they got
- 59:39Speaker 7: young guys, we got a mix of some veterans. Um,
- 59:41Speaker 7: we got some guys that we've seen in the past
- 59:43Speaker 7: that are good players, uh, 92 up front, uh, 44
- 59:46Speaker 7: on the edge chop. I know they're, um, two, they're
- 59:50Speaker 7: creating some havoc and they had some young rookies kind
- 59:52Speaker 7: of in the middle. And obviously, um, you know, Brooks
- 59:54Speaker 7: has been a great player in this league. He's led
- 59:55Speaker 7: the league in tackles. So he has some good pieces
- 59:58Speaker 7: and they, they're playing together and, They've also played a
- 1:00:00Speaker 7: tough schedule against some tough offenses. So I think we've
- 1:00:02Speaker 7: got a tough challenge. And we know we're going down
- 1:00:03Speaker 7: there on the road, a place that we've played, but
- 1:00:06Speaker 7: battling the heat. So I know we've got to put
- 1:00:09Speaker 7: our best foot forward and get back to it.
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: What have you learned from those two times that you've
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: been down there?
- 1:00:16Speaker 6: How to best manage.
- 1:00:18Speaker 7: Combat that heat that you're in? Yeah, I played down
- 1:00:21Speaker 7: there in college too. Same type deal. They put us
- 1:00:24Speaker 7: in the sun side, as they should, and try to
- 1:00:26Speaker 7: get the shade. So just knowing that you've got to
- 1:00:28Speaker 7: hydrate throughout the week. be careful with your body um
- 1:00:31Speaker 7: try to you know start it now and not try
- 1:00:33Speaker 7: to wait till you know the night before during game
- 1:00:35Speaker 7: day and then from there just knowing that you're going
- 1:00:37Speaker 7: to feel something a little bit extra you know it's
- 1:00:39Speaker 7: not you know super you know late in the season
- 1:00:40Speaker 7: where we've been battling the cold for a while up
- 1:00:42Speaker 7: here so not a huge change in temperature but still
- 1:00:45Speaker 7: you know it's definitely a factor with the humidity and
- 1:00:47Speaker 7: you know grew up in the south so you're a
- 1:00:49Speaker 7: little more used to it but um still i'm a
- 1:00:51Speaker 7: i'm a new england guy now but uh knowing that
- 1:00:53Speaker 7: you got to battle that and Especially the guys that
- 1:00:55Speaker 7: run a lot more, me running after a scramble, kind
- 1:00:57Speaker 7: of doing the play call, little things that kind of
- 1:00:59Speaker 7: catch you off guard. You just got to be thinking
- 1:01:01Speaker 7: ahead and knowing you may battle that.
- 1:01:03Speaker 15: How do you make sure these guys don't read too
- 1:01:05Speaker 15: much into the record in this situation?
- 1:01:08Speaker 7: Like I just said, they play a tough schedule. They
- 1:01:09Speaker 7: play a lot of people close as well. Play some
- 1:01:11Speaker 7: tough offenses, some good teams. I know that it's the NFL.
- 1:01:15Speaker 7: Every week it's nothing that you can come in here
- 1:01:19Speaker 7: and Act like the record means something. I think Coach
- 1:01:22Speaker 7: was able to just mention to us that this morning
- 1:01:24Speaker 7: in the team meeting, that's not the NFL. It's any
- 1:01:27Speaker 7: given week, and everybody's got good players that can play,
- 1:01:30Speaker 7: and especially when you're on the road, you've got to
- 1:01:32Speaker 7: bring your best ball.
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: When it comes to the scramble drills, what do you
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: communicate with the receivers when you get off the move
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: and stuff like that of how to get open and
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: how to help each other?
- 1:01:45Speaker 7: I think it's an ongoing process with learning kind of
- 1:01:47Speaker 7: the guy that's in the scramble drill. I think one
- 1:01:49Speaker 7: of the biggest things is you want a deep element
- 1:01:51Speaker 7: and kind of intermediate element and kind of an outlet
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: that you can kind of throw to and also running
- 1:01:56Speaker 7: is another chance. But the best thing I liked about
- 1:01:58Speaker 7: our guys lately, they have to get their eyes back
- 1:02:00Speaker 7: to me. I think that's the biggest thing. Make sure
- 1:02:01Speaker 7: they're looking for the ball, trying to see space and
- 1:02:04Speaker 7: not trying to run into the same kind of area.
- 1:02:06Speaker 7: I think usually when you're trying to go one way,
- 1:02:08Speaker 7: You need to try to settle or work to the sideline.
- 1:02:10Speaker 7: I think oftentimes you get in trouble when you're trying
- 1:02:12Speaker 7: to work back across the field kind of away from
- 1:02:13Speaker 7: where I'm going. So the guys got a great feel
- 1:02:15Speaker 7: for it. You know, I always tell them to try
- 1:02:16Speaker 7: to come back to the football and keep coming back
- 1:02:17Speaker 7: to it. You know, even if you're running downhill and
- 1:02:19Speaker 7: you end up with a three yard catch, it's better than,
- 1:02:21Speaker 7: you know, throwing it away. So I think those guys
- 1:02:23Speaker 7: got a good, good feel for it. And I'm trying
- 1:02:25Speaker 7: my best to try to, you know, hang in there
- 1:02:26Speaker 7: and keep my eyes downfield when it's a good pocket
- 1:02:28Speaker 7: and go make plays when, you know, I feel like
- 1:02:29Speaker 7: I can.
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: Is it something you can practice or is it kind
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: of hard to practice.
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: And simulate that?
- 1:02:35Speaker 7: I think it's a hundred percent something you can practice.
- 1:02:37Speaker 7: I think it's, It's hard when you're trying to play
- 1:02:40Speaker 7: on time and throughout practice to try to hit passing
- 1:02:43Speaker 7: game looks. But every now and then you get out there,
- 1:02:46Speaker 7: and the scout team does a good job of covering
- 1:02:48Speaker 7: something up. I try to get outside in the red
- 1:02:50Speaker 7: zone or maybe on third down and try to make
- 1:02:52Speaker 7: something happen. I think it's hard to replicate it all
- 1:02:55Speaker 7: at the same time. That's what training camp and kind
- 1:02:57Speaker 7: of building it. Really, game reps is another great place.
- 1:02:59Speaker 7: You learn from when game reps.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: Drake, when you take off.
- 1:03:02Speaker 6: Running, I noticed that you really moved the ball from
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: your right arm to your left arm.
- 1:03:11Speaker 7: Yeah, that's a really, really good catch that you have.
- 1:03:15Speaker 7: For some reason, I'm comfortable holding it in my left.
- 1:03:18Speaker 7: I know it's more natural probably as a righty to
- 1:03:20Speaker 7: hold it in my right, but I don't know. It's
- 1:03:22Speaker 7: a weird thing. And I think practicing ball security drills
- 1:03:25Speaker 7: with both hands is something I've been working on and
- 1:03:27Speaker 7: trying to be good with the football. I think that's
- 1:03:29Speaker 7: the biggest thing is making sure I got whichever arm
- 1:03:31Speaker 7: it is high and tight. And for some reason, it's
- 1:03:33Speaker 7: like my dad growing up, he used to be on
- 1:03:35Speaker 7: a fast break I think we're improving. I think we're growing.
- 1:03:38Speaker 7: We're battling some injuries. We're battling some kind of Kind
- 1:03:54Speaker 7: of feel like we're there one week, then we're dipping
- 1:03:55Speaker 7: back down and then battling penalties. The biggest thing is
- 1:03:59Speaker 7: we're moving the football. We just got to try to
- 1:04:00Speaker 7: finish off drives, get out of our own way penalty-wise,
- 1:04:03Speaker 7: and protect the football. And that starts with me, protecting
- 1:04:05Speaker 7: the football and realizing that turnover of the football is
- 1:04:08Speaker 7: going to take away points. And knowing that's huge, especially
- 1:04:10Speaker 7: down in the red zone. So that's the biggest thing
- 1:04:11Speaker 7: for me, I think myself. And this team is battle penalties,
- 1:04:16Speaker 7: try to stay on track with yards-wise, down the distance.
- 1:04:19Speaker 7: And from there, I think just finish off drives.
- 1:04:21Speaker 6: How much does it help.
- 1:04:22Speaker 7: Having two quality tight ends, not just, you know, big
- 1:04:24Speaker 7: bodies as receivers, but also before the snap in terms
- 1:04:27Speaker 7: of being able to kind of simplify things.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: Maybe your career plan?
- 1:04:29Speaker 7: Yeah, I've been blessed really my whole career since I
- 1:04:32Speaker 7: got here with Hoop and Hunter, you know, to have,
- 1:04:34Speaker 7: you know, good tight ends. And obviously we lost Hoop, but,
- 1:04:36Speaker 7: you know, now Eli's, you know, really, you know, grown
- 1:04:38Speaker 7: into a big role. And I'm, you know, appreciate getting to,
- 1:04:42Speaker 7: you know, kind of be in with a young tight
- 1:04:43Speaker 7: end and kind of get to, you know, kind of
- 1:04:45Speaker 7: not really showing the ropes, but show them how I
- 1:04:47Speaker 7: see things and how I've learned seeing things with Hunter.
- 1:04:49Speaker 7: and hoop back in the day. But really, Hunter's one
- 1:04:51Speaker 7: of the best things for Eli that you can have
- 1:04:54Speaker 7: in the room. He's played as such a veteran, such
- 1:04:57Speaker 7: a veteran presence.
- 1:04:58Speaker 9: He's a pro.
- 1:04:59Speaker 7: He does everything the right way, and we've got a
- 1:05:02Speaker 7: great connection in that room. We've got a strong room
- 1:05:04Speaker 7: in the run game and pass game, so they do
- 1:05:05Speaker 7: a lot for us, and it makes it tough on defense.
- 1:05:07Speaker 7: You can match us in big people, and you can
- 1:05:09Speaker 7: try to match us in little people, and we'll try
- 1:05:11Speaker 7: to run it. So there's different things that you can create,
- 1:05:14Speaker 7: and at the same time, they're great in the passing game.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: And I believe a clear high in the seeding yard
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: last week.
- 1:05:22Speaker 15: How nice and how important is it to have a
- 1:05:24Speaker 15: guy that can kind.
- 1:05:25Speaker 9: Of do both?
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: He can sit back, he can hand the ball off,
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: and you also know he's there.
- 1:05:30Speaker 7: Yeah, I think Ramond Dre, I told him the other day,
- 1:05:32Speaker 7: he's one of the best. Even though we don't only
- 1:05:34Speaker 7: use him on third downs, he's one of the best
- 1:05:35Speaker 7: third down backs in the league. The way he can protect,
- 1:05:38Speaker 7: the way he runs routes, and the way he's just fluid.
- 1:05:40Speaker 7: You guys see him making cuts, and he even had
- 1:05:43Speaker 7: some more chances for him to to make plays, you know,
- 1:05:45Speaker 7: in the air. I missed him on the time where
- 1:05:47Speaker 7: I ran and scrambled instead, but he's a mismatch. He
- 1:05:49Speaker 7: can beat you, you know, moving side to side and
- 1:05:52Speaker 7: shaking you, and he can, you know, go by you.
- 1:05:54Speaker 7: So he's tough to, you know, deal with, and he's
- 1:05:56Speaker 7: also smart. So it's fun to be back there with him.
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: Yeah, we're a little.
- 1:05:59Speaker 7: More kind of in the flow of the season, so
- 1:06:04Speaker 7: it's a little more, I wouldn't say normal, but a
- 1:06:13Speaker 7: little more kind of your routine-wise, back into the routine
- 1:06:16Speaker 7: right now. I think the first game, when you have
- 1:06:18Speaker 7: a break like that on Wednesday, coming from an off-season
- 1:06:20Speaker 7: in a training camp, you kind of feel like you
- 1:06:22Speaker 7: want to play more games. But I think we're kind
- 1:06:24Speaker 7: of trying to get in the flow of things back.
- 1:06:26Speaker 7: I don't know if we have a 1 o'clock game
- 1:06:28Speaker 7: for a while now, so kind of getting the feel
- 1:06:30Speaker 7: for playing a little later in the day. And then
- 1:06:32Speaker 7: from there, we've got some roads, some homes. They're international,
- 1:06:35Speaker 7: so we've got to take it one week at a time.
- 1:06:36Speaker 7: And knowing that we're back on the road in the
- 1:06:38Speaker 7: division game, it's a big chance for us to get going.
- 1:07:00Speaker 7: I think one of the best things about Coach McDaniels
- 1:07:03Speaker 7: is we've got a lot of different answers for trying
- 1:07:04Speaker 7: to attack that. I think one of the hardest things
- 1:07:06Speaker 7: is you try to have an answer for it, and
- 1:07:08Speaker 7: the guys you think coming aren't the guys you think coming.
- 1:07:10Speaker 7: The other guys are dropping, so it's tough with how
- 1:07:13Speaker 7: much different defenses can do and what they can drop
- 1:07:15Speaker 7: out these guys and bring these guys and bring the
- 1:07:18Speaker 7: guys up the middle and drop the guys on the edge.
- 1:07:20Speaker 7: It's something you've got to challenge every week. You've got
- 1:07:21Speaker 7: to have a plan. I've got to be knowing communication-wise
- 1:07:26Speaker 7: and what we want to do offensively, and at the
- 1:07:27Speaker 7: end of the day, I think trying to stay in
- 1:07:29Speaker 7: yards where we're you're trying to stay out of that or,
- 1:07:31Speaker 7: you know, when you're kind of got to have it,
- 1:07:33Speaker 7: you know, moments at the end of the game or
- 1:07:35Speaker 7: third downs or, you know, when pressure situations just have
- 1:07:38Speaker 7: an answer, trust kind of what you're seeing and, you know,
- 1:07:41Speaker 7: go make it.
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: And now, great moments in.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: Back in the day when Eric was still a meat eater,
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: we went to Arthur's and he wanted to get a
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: steak well done, and I objected.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: He did.
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: I objected.
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: He voiced an opposition. That's ridiculous.
- 1:07:58Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: Told the server, said, don't you dare. Don't you dare
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: bring him a cooked steak. about five minutes later.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: He doesn't need a good cut, is what I'm saying.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: You don't need to waste the money on someone who's going.
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: To have it well done. It's a waste of money
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: because you don't like it cooked that way.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: It'll taste the same, is what I'm saying. He won't
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: even know the difference.
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: Of course you know the difference between cuts of meat.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: Not when you do it well done. Not when you
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: cook it well done.
- 1:08:25Speaker 6: Just give him a hoof.
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: It loses all its flavor.
- 1:08:27Speaker 6: A wing.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: It loses all its flavor.
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: All you taste is the charbroil. It's a sin, Ma.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: It's a sin, Ma.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: I stand by that.
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: If you're going to get a steak, you know, medium
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: is the highest temp you should go.
- 1:08:42Speaker 11: And Fred, they do save, like, the crappier cuts for
- 1:08:46Speaker 11: well done, if you read Kitchen Confidential.
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: So I don't like well done. It's... bothers the crap
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: out of me every time i have a cookout i
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: have my brother two brother-in-laws, and a sister-in-law that insist
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: on everything being completely well done. So you're on the grill.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: You got, like, whole different things going on with this
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: side and that side.
- 1:09:04Speaker 11: I think if you don't like well done, you don't like...
- 1:09:06Speaker 11: beef and you should just have chicken instead.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: My point to Fred was, that's the way he likes it.
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: Why are you telling him how he should do it?
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: Because it shouldn't be prepared that way. I agree with Fred.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: You don't have someone just as obnoxious as you.
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: It shouldn't be.
- 1:09:20Speaker 9: No.
- 1:09:21Speaker 13: No.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: You're wasting a good piece of meat.
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: Give him a burger.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: An animal had to die for that.
- 1:09:27Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: Give him a burger. You know?
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: Grill him up a hot dog. Don't waste a steak
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: on someone who Wants it well done. I mean, come on.
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: I don't like it well done. I think it's ridiculous.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Now, I say that, but when it comes to coffee,
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: I like cream and sugar. And a lot of coffee
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: people will say, well, get a milkshake. You're ruining coffee
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: by changing the flavor with the cream and the sugar.
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: Different.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: Different.
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: Much different.
- 1:09:59Speaker 6: I'm supposed to do this question every week thing, but.
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: I have a quick question for Alex because my wife
- 1:10:05Speaker 5: had a friend who was going on a date last
- 1:10:06Speaker 5: night and they were meeting for coffee. And my wife said,
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: it's a red flag if your blind date gets black coffee.
- 1:10:13Speaker 6: But he actually got decaf tea. Can you break that down?
- 1:10:16Speaker 6: If you were on a blind date, how would you
- 1:10:18Speaker 6: interpret those two things?
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: I don't know if I think a black coffee is
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: a red flag.
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: Oh, it's a night day, too.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: It's a night day, so he's planning on staying up,
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: if you know what I mean.
- 1:10:27Speaker 11: I think you should just get drinks or an app
- 1:10:29Speaker 11: at night.
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: Why are you getting coffee at night?
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: That just tells me he's cheap.
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: They were.
- 1:10:34Speaker 12: Oh.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: Is that the red flag?
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: He doesn't want to go to dinner. You want to
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: get a coffee?
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: I thought you meant after dinner he had a black coffee.
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: No, it's just a low commitment, let's meet for coffee.
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: Oh, oh, oh.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: Have a drink.
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: Or if you're sober, have like an app or something.
- 1:10:46Speaker 6: I mean, it was baked into the date. You know,
- 1:10:48Speaker 6: that's why I was, I don't know.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: Like, what time of night was this?
- 1:10:51Speaker 6: Like 7 o'clock?
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: No, stand alone.
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: Go to coffee.
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: You're not going to eat?
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: We're just going to go for drinks. What coffee shop
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: is open at 7 o'clock?
- 1:10:57Speaker 6: It's impossible. Hey, I. All right, it's time for the
- 1:11:01Speaker 6: co-pilot question of the week presented by Microsoft co-pilot.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: Maybe we should ask co-pilot if it's a red flag.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: Next week we will.
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: Where every day is game day and where every decision
- 1:11:08Speaker 5: is powered by insight and innovation, Microsoft technology helps to
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: make decisions faster, insight sharper, and strategies more adaptive. And, Paul,
- 1:11:15Speaker 5: I don't really have a good question for you this week,
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: but I did ask co-pilot to do a little deep
- 1:11:19Speaker 5: dive on this rivalry because I do think it's pretty
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: interesting the way the Dolphins have always kind of been
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: a thorn in the side of the Patriots.
- 1:11:26Speaker 6: I looked, you know, just the records.
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: I've said this before, over 2001 to 2019, You're 34-4
- 1:11:31Speaker 5: against Buffalo, 31-7 against the Jets, 27-11.
- 1:11:34Speaker 6: The Dolphins got 11.
- 1:11:37Speaker 5: Some of the most famous ones, though, the 18 straight
- 1:11:40Speaker 5: wins in Miami that was ended with the Patriots winning
- 1:11:43Speaker 5: the 1985 AFC Championship. And, of course, the 2004 loss,
- 1:11:47Speaker 5: which I'm kind of curious, you guys, like you talk
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: about games you got to have, the 2004 team, 29-28.
- 1:11:49Speaker 6: They lost to the 2-9s. 2-11 Jets. It was an
- 1:11:55Speaker 6: unbelievable game. 2-11 Dolphins. Yeah, was that a no-nod that game?
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: Were you waiting to get the nod?
- 1:11:59Speaker 9: Oh, no.
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: I had my whole story written. That was a Monday
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: night game. I had everything written. I was all set.
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: It's the only time, really, that I just completely deleted
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: that whole word file and opened up a new file.
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: I didn't even bother cutting and pasting and moving. I
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: said nothing that I had written. Was it all relevant
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: to what I ended up having to write? So I
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: just deleted it. I spiked it, is what they would
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: say in the newspaper business. Started over.
- 1:12:24Speaker 5: I also don't think it's crazy to say that the
- 1:12:27Speaker 5: Dolphins maybe cost the Patriots maybe at least two appearances
- 1:12:29Speaker 5: in the Super Bowl, if not two more championships.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: I know of one.
- 1:12:32Speaker 5: 2013, they lost to the Dolphins, and AFC Championship ends
- 1:12:37Speaker 5: up being in Denver instead of here.
- 1:12:39Speaker 6: In New England.
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: I did not remember that one.
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: 2015, they lost again. I think that was the Steven
- 1:12:44Speaker 5: Jackson game. ends up being in Denver again instead of
- 1:12:47Speaker 5: home for the Patriots.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: I remember that.
- 1:12:49Speaker 6: You know, the one time they overcame it was 2018,
- 1:12:50Speaker 6: the Miami miracle. It ended up, they lost the top seed.
- 1:12:54Speaker 6: They ended up winning in Kansas City, but they overcame it.
- 1:12:56Speaker 5: And, of course, the last one was that 2019 dreadful
- 1:12:59Speaker 5: loss to Ryan Fitzpatrick that cost them a bye week.
- 1:13:02Speaker 6: And then they lost the next week to Mike Bray.
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: That's the one I was thinking of.
- 1:13:06Speaker 6: Yeah, so those are, you know, just a, Dolphins kind
- 1:13:09Speaker 6: of a special little rivalry. I think, you know, we
- 1:13:11Speaker 6: love the Dodgers.
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: And that one was here.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: The Ryan Fitzpatrick game was in New England. That's what
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: made that one so stunning.
- 1:13:16Speaker 6: That was a painful one.
- 1:13:18Speaker 11: I have a story after that game. I was covering
- 1:13:20Speaker 11: that game for Mass Live, so it was way back
- 1:13:23Speaker 11: in the day. Brady was so upset leaving that game,
- 1:13:27Speaker 11: and I happened to be walking by him in the
- 1:13:29Speaker 11: tunnel because he used to go out through the truck
- 1:13:31Speaker 11: bay or something. So he's walking with Vivian, his daughter
- 1:13:35Speaker 11: at the time. And she's laying into him because he
- 1:13:38Speaker 11: won't let her go run around on the field.
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: And I'm just, like, thinking, like, this man just suffered
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: that loss. Everything it meant.
- 1:13:46Speaker 11: But, like, he's just like us. His little daughter's calling
- 1:13:49Speaker 11: him a terrible dad.
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: Shut up, Vivi.
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: She can't go play. I'm going to go donkey. She's like,
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: you never let me play on the field anymore.
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: I was like, oh, man.
- 1:13:56Speaker 11: I've never felt bad for Tom Brady before. But the
- 1:13:59Speaker 11: look on his face as his daughter just laid into him.
- 1:14:02Speaker 6: A nagging, precocious little daughter.
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: No, no.
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:14:05Speaker 6: So there you go. A little history there of the Dolphins.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: All right. Let's see.
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: Pordor, who was our listener from Iceland.
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Mind you. Unfortunately, I can't always listen live.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: But on Tuesday, Christian from L.A. talked about an Icelandic song.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: He said he had receipts. His receipts are poop. Since
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: I don't know this song, nor does anyone I've asked.
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: It could be that he was talking about this song.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: And he includes a YouTube link. We're not going to
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: play it. But anyway, so he is calling poop on
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: Christian in L.A. What say you, Christian?
- 1:14:44Speaker 9: Yeah, except he does know the song, but it's only
- 1:14:47Speaker 9: on YouTube. So either he doesn't know the song or
- 1:14:50Speaker 9: it's only on YouTube. The song is actually a song
- 1:14:53Speaker 9: that you sing at a birthday party because I lived
- 1:14:55Speaker 9: there for a year and I went to a lot
- 1:14:57Speaker 9: of birthday parties. So I don't know what Torve or
- 1:15:00Speaker 9: whatever his name is or what the YouTube is, but
- 1:15:02Speaker 9: the song is pretty clear. You can even look it
- 1:15:05Speaker 9: up on your phones if you want. You can even
- 1:15:07Speaker 9: translate it word for word if you like. On to football.
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: Are you sure it's from Iceland?
- 1:15:15Speaker 9: I didn't live anyplace else but Iceland. So I'm pretty
- 1:15:18Speaker 9: sure it's from Iceland. I'll send you guys something in
- 1:15:21Speaker 9: an email.
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: Why did you live in Iceland?
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: He was married to Miss Iceland.
- 1:15:26Speaker 9: I was married to Miss Iceland. I was married to
- 1:15:28Speaker 9: a woman from Iceland.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: Okay. And so you moved over. All right. And then
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: you moved to, where did you move from Iceland?
- 1:15:36Speaker 9: From Iceland. I went back to New York and then
- 1:15:38Speaker 9: from New York, I came to LA.
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:15:41Speaker 9: I went to Palm Springs actually, which is where I
- 1:15:43Speaker 9: first landed in California, working for Merrill Lynch. I was
- 1:15:46Speaker 9: a manager for Merrill Lynch in Palm Springs.
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: Okay. And how's Miss Iceland doing?
- 1:15:51Speaker 9: Oh, You know, she runs a ballet school. She has
- 1:15:55Speaker 9: two beautiful children, and that's all I really keep up
- 1:15:59Speaker 9: with her on.
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: That's it.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:16:02Speaker 9: Yeah, Brandice is her name, actually.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:16:05Speaker 9: Which consequently means goddess of battle, which I did not
- 1:16:08Speaker 9: know we.
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: First got into.
- 1:16:10Speaker 6: You've got to be careful. That's a red flag right there.
- 1:16:13Speaker 9: Her dad told me at the wedding, he said in
- 1:16:16Speaker 9: his Icelandic accent, I'm surprised you married her.
- 1:16:19Speaker 6: And I went, what?
- 1:16:20Speaker 9: She's the brightest person. You know, her name does mean
- 1:16:23Speaker 9: goddess of battle, right?
- 1:16:25Speaker 6: And I went, whoa, what do you mean?
- 1:16:28Speaker 9: And she was very feisty, fiery. The Icelandic women are
- 1:16:31Speaker 9: known as Valkyries because they do not take crap from anyone.
- 1:16:35Speaker 6: Well, I didn't work out.
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: Alex, do you have any Icelandic blood in you? You
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: don't take any crap from anyone.
- 1:16:43Speaker 6: That's unfortunate.
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: Maybe I guess we're similar.
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: Because of me.
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:16:46Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 1:16:47Speaker 9: It didn't work out because of me, but that's the difference.
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: No, I mean, you don't meet a lot of people
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: who lived in Iceland, these parts. No, no, no.
- 1:16:54Speaker 9: No, but you know what? And the best thing about
- 1:16:57Speaker 9: the people in Iceland, and this is kind of like football,
- 1:16:59Speaker 9: is they absolutely have no idea of the concept. They
- 1:17:02Speaker 9: don't really get the concept of, like, racism or skin color. Like,
- 1:17:06Speaker 9: I tried to explain American stuff to them, and they just,
- 1:17:08Speaker 9: you know how a dog does when he doesn't understand something,
- 1:17:10Speaker 9: he nods his head to the side? That's what they
- 1:17:13Speaker 9: would do. They would be like, what else? And it
- 1:17:16Speaker 9: was just the most amazing culture. They even have a
- 1:17:18Speaker 9: beautiful story about a guy in World War I whose
- 1:17:22Speaker 9: ship crashed, and he was a black guy, and they
- 1:17:24Speaker 9: were told to swim towards Greenland because there were savages
- 1:17:27Speaker 9: on this other place. But they did land in Iceland,
- 1:17:31Speaker 9: and the guy was found on the shore, and he
- 1:17:33Speaker 9: wakes up, and he's got abrasions all over him. And
- 1:17:36Speaker 9: it turns out that because they had not seen a
- 1:17:38Speaker 9: lot of black people and they knew it was an
- 1:17:40Speaker 9: oil tanker that sank, They thought he had oil over him,
- 1:17:44Speaker 9: and he had abrasions all over him.
- 1:17:46Speaker 6: Trying to rub it off?
- 1:17:47Speaker 9: The story goes, they were trying to wipe the oil
- 1:17:50Speaker 9: off of him. They didn't know he was a black person.
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: It's an uplifting story, yeah.
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: Really diverse over there.
- 1:18:00Speaker 9: He wakes up and sees these beautiful nurses, and he
- 1:18:02Speaker 9: winds up falling in love with one and marrying one.
- 1:18:04Speaker 9: And there's literally a statue in a town called Narvik
- 1:18:08Speaker 9: about this story. That's how wonderful the Icelandic people are.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: And this was like a couple years ago that it happened?
- 1:18:14Speaker 6: No, this was in 2003.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: Okay, all right. Okay, so what did you call about, Christian?
- 1:18:25Speaker 9: I actually called for three quick things, and one of
- 1:18:27Speaker 9: them is going at Paul. But first I'll say this.
- 1:18:30Speaker 9: What's the timeline, you guys, if A.J. Brown still does
- 1:18:32Speaker 9: not play well? Is it that he won't contribute to
- 1:18:36Speaker 9: week 12, like I kind of said a little while ago?
- 1:18:38Speaker 9: Or is it just that recovering from this kind of
- 1:18:40Speaker 9: injury at his age might just leave him permanently without
- 1:18:44Speaker 9: that extra bit of burst? And at that, is it
- 1:18:46Speaker 9: going to fail on our part, too? I wanted to
- 1:18:50Speaker 9: talk about was this notion that Paul sort of championed with,
- 1:18:55Speaker 9: you know, and Evan kind of championed it too. We
- 1:18:58Speaker 9: got some players who don't really want to swing for
- 1:19:00Speaker 9: the fences and go for these kind of players because
- 1:19:01Speaker 9: we don't want to lose a second first round pick.
- 1:19:04Speaker 9: Let me just ask you, how many first round picks.
- 1:19:06Speaker 15: Work out, Paul?
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: Well, how many should work out? All of them.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: I mean, over the years that I've been working for
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: Fred Kirsch, I would say there's been about five that
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: didn't work out. So I would say about 20 have
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: been good. 23 have been good. Four or five have
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: been not working out. I mean, it's just off the
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: top of my head.
- 1:19:29Speaker 9: To make it easy, let's take percentage. What percentage of
- 1:19:32Speaker 9: first-round draft picks work out?
- 1:19:33Speaker 6: 75%.
- 1:19:37Speaker 9: What percentage of second round draft picks work out?
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: I don't care. What is your point?
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: It goes down every round. It goes down every round.
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: What is your point? That they should not have any
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: draft picks? Because you don't like them? Is that your point?
- 1:19:50Speaker 6: Fine.
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: Trade them all. Trade all your draft picks for who?
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: Who do you want to trade them for?
- 1:19:54Speaker 9: How did it work out for the Rams, Paul, to
- 1:19:56Speaker 9: just go ahead and get the right player for the
- 1:19:58Speaker 9: right position at the right time instead of saying... Yeah.
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: And you know what else they've done exceptionally well? You
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: know what else the Rams have done exceptionally well? Draft.
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: They've drafted exceptionally well. That's also a big part of
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: their success. And you know why they're struggling right now?
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: Because they don't have any middle class. Because they've lost
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: it all, and they're getting a little bit older. I
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: love the Rams. Everybody knows that I love Sean McVay
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: and Matthew Stafford, correct?
- 1:20:24Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: I love the way they go about their business. And
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: I would do that every time. I think it's been
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: wildly successful. There was different ways to do it, Christian.
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: That's how they did it, and it worked for them,
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: and I love it. I love the Rams. They're one
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: of my favorite teams that's not the Patriots. Like, Fred
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: makes fun of me about the Rams all the time.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: You love Stafford. But, like, the.
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: Patriots did it a certain way for a lot of years. Like,
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: now you're going to come back and say, oh, now
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: they stink because they had a couple of draft picks
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: that didn't work? I mean, what are you going to do?
- 1:20:58Speaker 9: The Patriots were able to do it that way because
- 1:21:00Speaker 9: they had a can-do quarterback that made everyone better, including
- 1:21:04Speaker 9: the defense, because the defense wasn't on the field that long.
- 1:21:06Speaker 9: So they were able to do things the slow, methodical way.
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: I agree.
- 1:21:10Speaker 9: This is not the team. This is not those Patriots.
- 1:21:12Speaker 9: And how did it work out for the Eagles going
- 1:21:14Speaker 9: ahead and just getting the best player when you can
- 1:21:16Speaker 9: get him?
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: Well, listen, it worked out extremely well for the Eagles
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: doing it the way they did it. And you can
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: do it extremely well. The Steelers drafted well.
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: They were always winning.
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: There's a lot of teams that the Ravens always drafted well.
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: The Eagles went to three Super Bowls in like eight years. Like,
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: what are we talking about?
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: Yeah, there's different ways to do it. As long as
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: what you're doing, you do it well, you can succeed.
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: You just have to do well at your method, at
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: your philosophy. You know, I don't think there's any one way.
- 1:21:51Speaker 9: So why are these guys so stuck on the idea that, oh,
- 1:21:53Speaker 9: you can't do it?
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: I didn't say you can't do it.
- 1:21:57Speaker 9: You don't want to have no pick.
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: I didn't say they can't make a trade, Christian. Don't
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: put words in my mouth. Because I'm not interested in
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: Josh Downs means that I think that they shouldn't make
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: any trades? I didn't say that.
- 1:22:09Speaker 9: Because you stood on that you shouldn't do that because
- 1:22:11Speaker 9: you won't have a middle class and all this stuff.
- 1:22:13Speaker 7: No.
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: Well, Christian, stop for a second and listen. Quentin Nelson
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: is a guy that a lot of people wanted. I
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: don't think it makes a lot of sense to devote
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: that many resources to one position.
- 1:22:25Speaker 9: How many players in the upcoming draft are better than him?
- 1:22:28Speaker 9: How many players in the first?
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: This has nothing to do with the draft. I don't
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: think you need to spend multiple millions of dollars on guards.
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: They have four guards already on the roster that are
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: kind of expensive. I don't want to add a fifth.
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: That's all. I think you could use your resources in
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: a better way.
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: It's the particular player.
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: It's the particular position.
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Position player.
- 1:22:51Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: Yeah. Thanks, Christian.
- 1:22:53Speaker 6: Like, It's okay.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: I say a lot of dumb things. I get myself
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: in enough trouble. I don't need guys that are pseudo-intellects
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: putting words in my mouth that don't accurately portray what
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: I'm talking about. I didn't say I wouldn't give a
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: third-round pick for Quentin Nelson because I don't think he's
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: worth a third-round pick. That's not what I said. But
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: you're paying $ 16 million to Michael Wenyu. You're paying how
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: many million? $ 14 million for Vera Tucker? As an 11-year veteran,
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: Greg Van Roten makes a good amount of money for
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: a backup. That's an expensive backup. Same with Matt Pryor.
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: Now I'm going to add Quentin Nelson to that mix.
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: So I'm going to have five guards that are making,
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: three of them are going to be making over $ 10
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: million a year. It's not because I don't think Quentin
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: Nelson's worth a third-round pick. Of course he's worth a
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: third-round pick. You're not going to get a third-round pick
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: better than him. I just don't think that that's a
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: great way to use your resources. That was a whole
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: separate conversation that Mike and Evan and I were having
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: yesterday about down the road, you're going to find some
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: value in some of those third-round picks. And if you don't,
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: you're going to be stuck. Christian's right about that. If
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: you don't start hitting on some of these picks, you're
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: going to be in trouble. But where are they going
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: to get the replacements for these guys? In other words,
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: is Quentin Nelson going to make you a Super Bowl team?
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: He could help.
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: I mean.
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: Do you think you're a guard away from that? I
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: don't think any team has ever said that in the
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: history of football. We're a guard away from being a
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: Super Bowl team. Now, you want to tell me that
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: he would help your team? Of course he would. Like,
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: Jonathan Taylor would help you, too. Do you want to
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: get him? Yeah.
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: You do? I would take him, but I'm not going
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: to give up two first-round picks for him.
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: Okay, so then you don't want him.
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: I want him, but I can't afford him.
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: No, you're like a Yahoo Patriots fan. You want him.
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: You just want the other team to give him to you.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: Well, yeah.
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: You don't want to give up anything for him. Right.
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: Those guys cost stuff.
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: I'd give him a third.
- 1:24:56Speaker 6: Or a player that you don't need for the current team.
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd definitely do that.
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: They can look at our practice squad and take anyone
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: they want. All of them.
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: If I can get Jonathan Taylor for nothing, I'll take
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: him too. Otherwise, I don't want him. I don't think
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: adding a running back is going to tip the scales
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: for you.
- 1:25:17Speaker 6: Good stuff, Paul. I wanted to go back to Christian's... Oh,
- 1:25:20Speaker 6: thank you. Go back to his question about A.J.
- 1:25:24Speaker 5: Brown, and I was just going to say I'd like
- 1:25:26Speaker 5: to see something from him this weekend. Like, if you're
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: not going to do anything against this Dolphins team, I
- 1:25:31Speaker 5: think you are going to see something from him this weekend.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:25:34Speaker 6: I hope it's a good play.
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: So my point is just this, and suddenly Christian's the
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: only one that's saying this.
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: If you don't get more out of him, it's a
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: bad trade. Like, somehow he thinks we're afraid to say
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: that it's a bad trade. I didn't love the trade
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: when they made it. I would have made it. I
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: thought they gave up a lot for him. I understand
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: why they made the trade, and I would have done
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: the same thing. But I didn't love it. I liked it.
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: There's a difference. So far, you've gotten nothing out of
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: that trade. It's been a disaster. Through seven weeks of
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: the season, that trade has been a disaster. Like, I
- 1:26:08Speaker 2: know he's the only one that's willing to say that. Like,
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: how many weeks are we going to go before we did? No, no, no.
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: He's done nothing.
- 1:26:13Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: He's done nothing.
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: But I'm still hopeful that he will do something. Yeah.
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: That's because you're a homer, Fred.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: I am.
- 1:26:21Speaker 6: No.
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: Like you don't have any objectivity.
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: I'm hopeful.
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: I'm pleasantly surprised he's even back yet. Honestly.
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: He shouldn't be. Clearly that was a mistake. They rushed
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: him back because clearly he's not ready to be out there.
- 1:26:34Speaker 5: The hope for me is that when you get into
- 1:26:37Speaker 5: this stretch of games, Bills, Vikings, Chiefs, and the Broncos maybe,
- 1:26:41Speaker 5: that that's when you have a real A.J.
- 1:26:43Speaker 6: Brown like you were expecting.
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: Let me ask you something.
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: Those are the games.
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: Not to play Christian's side of the street. What do
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: you expect?
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: Two and two. Not you.
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: What do you expect from A.J. Brown? Because you just
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: said that you think he's going to have a big
- 1:26:55Speaker 2: week this week.
- 1:26:56Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: So what do you expect when he gets to those?
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: Because by the time we get to that stage of
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: the season, he ain't going to be in better shape
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: than he is now. He's going to be in worse
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: shape than he is now. So I'm kind of with Christian.
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: I'm really concerned about A.J. Brown for the entirety of
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: the season.
- 1:27:13Speaker 6: That's one way to look at it.
- 1:27:15Speaker 5: I mean, you could say he's This is it. I'm
- 1:27:18Speaker 5: hopeful that at least this weekend he gets a little something.
- 1:27:20Speaker 6: What am I expecting? I'm expecting him to be the
- 1:27:23Speaker 6: player that he looked like this summer. Is that too much?
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: Yeah, because I don't think he's healthy.
- 1:27:30Speaker 6: It's fair, but that's what the expectation is.
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: He might catch a bunch of passes. I don't think
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: he's going to look like the guy who was running
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: around in the summer because I don't think he'll be 100%.
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: And I think in the summer he was 100%. So
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: I don't have much faith that he's going to be
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: running around like that.
- 1:27:47Speaker 6: So then you think it's lost? You think all is lost?
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: Lost? No. I think he could have made some plays
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: in the game Thursday night. I think there was a
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: chance that he could have made more plays, but did
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: he look like that explosive guy that we saw in
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: the summer? No, no, no question. I mean, he looked
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: better in the first game.
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: He looked better when he had the drops.
- 1:28:04Speaker 6: Yeah, I agree.
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: I mean, I guess maybe this is more realistic to
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: hope that. mac hollins and romeo dobbs come back and
- 1:28:11Speaker 5: that it isn't aj brown being a number one receiver
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: but all of them are involved and he is a
- 1:28:17Speaker 5: good part of it and solid but maybe you're right
- 1:28:20Speaker 5: you know expecting him to be a number one receiver
- 1:28:22Speaker 5: again this season maybe that is uh that that's gone.
- 1:28:25Speaker 2: Maybe i just think that there's a chance that he
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: could make more plays like i think he could have
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: caught that deep ball yeah um you know that the
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: guy ended up He might have been past interference. He
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: kind of got the hand in a little early. I
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: actually thought it was a good no-call because it was
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: close enough and he did hit the ball. I think A.J.
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: Brown could have caught that ball. And, you know, I
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: don't think that means he's any more healthy than he is.
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: But he might have been able to catch that ball.
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: I think he could make more plays against Miami. I
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: just don't think you're going to see vintage A.J.
- 1:28:57Speaker 6: Brown.
- 1:28:58Speaker 5: I know you think the Patriots are going to win
- 1:28:59Speaker 5: big this weekend, so do you think that happens with
- 1:29:01Speaker 5: just kind of a 2-3 catch A.J.
- 1:29:03Speaker 6: Brown performance?
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: I mean, I know that some of the yards were
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: a little deceiving against Chicago because of those two end-of-the-half
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: drives kind of make it look better, but Miami can't
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: stop anybody. I'd be very surprised if Drake May doesn't
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: have another big game. Whether that's A.J. Brown or not.
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: Let's just do some quick calls because we have to
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: do picks. Real quick. Eldred in North Carolina. Hey, what up, Alex?
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: What's up, fellas?
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: How y'all?
- 1:29:41Speaker 8: Good.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: Hey, Paul.
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 1:29:42Speaker 10: I kind of disagree with you, buddy.
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: That's okay. Just make sure it's something that I said.
- 1:29:46Speaker 6: No, no, no, no.
- 1:29:49Speaker 10: I'm talking about A.J. Love you, man.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: Love A.J.
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: Too.
- 1:29:52Speaker 10: But he come off the high ankle. I think they
- 1:29:54Speaker 10: rushed him back two turns soon. And he's 30. So
- 1:29:57Speaker 10: I'm thinking he might give you a little bit better
- 1:29:59Speaker 10: this week. But they should have left him.
- 1:30:01Speaker 8: Out, man.
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: That's what Paul said.
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: That's what I said. I think they made a mistake
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: bringing him back.
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: But he thinks he's going to be good.
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: Yeah, but I– He'll be better. I just don't know
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: if he'll be vintage A.J.
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: Brown.
- 1:30:15Speaker 10: Yeah, I got to agree with Christian a little bit.
- 1:30:18Speaker 10: I gave the first– for P.T.J. than I would for A.J.
- 1:30:21Speaker 10: because he's 25 and he can work with Drake May.
- 1:30:24Speaker 10: He's younger and he's fresh. And he is a deep threat.
- 1:30:27Speaker 10: I would have did that before I did it with A.J.
- 1:30:29Speaker 10: Even though I love A.J. Brown, I wanted him to
- 1:30:32Speaker 10: after D.K., but like I said, it's just the injury stuff.
- 1:30:38Speaker 10: And he might get a little bit better, but I'm
- 1:30:40Speaker 10: with Graves also. We injured. So I ain't penciling no wind.
- 1:30:46Speaker 10: It's going to be a rock fight to see everybody
- 1:30:48Speaker 10: get healthy.
- 1:30:49Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: That's the way I look at it.
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: Thanks, Eldridge. If this is a rock fight, then something.
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: This is like the Josh Uche thing. If this is
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: a rock fight, something happened that's not good. Yeah.
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: Oliver's in Australia. What's up, Oliver?
- 1:31:04Speaker 6: Oh, hello.
- 1:31:06Speaker 19: I just thought I'd ring in. It's 3 a.m. in
- 1:31:09Speaker 19: the morning, so I'm just playing an all-nighter at the moment.
- 1:31:13Speaker 19: I've got two things for you guys at the moment.
- 1:31:15Speaker 19: So last week we were talking about jerseys and stuff.
- 1:31:18Speaker 19: I've got a really fun jersey for you guys. So
- 1:31:21Speaker 19: it's a Super Bowl 52 jersey with Julian Edelman on
- 1:31:24Speaker 19: the back. So it's fun for two reasons. One, because
- 1:31:26Speaker 19: we lost that Super Bowl. And number two, because Julian
- 1:31:29Speaker 19: Edelman was injured that season. So, no, it's a bit
- 1:31:31Speaker 19: of a bad omen. I wore it watching the last
- 1:31:33Speaker 19: Super Bowl, so that might have been the reason they lost.
- 1:31:37Speaker 19: The second one was that I was watching the Seattle
- 1:31:40Speaker 19: game and I was watching the last game and I
- 1:31:42Speaker 19: was thinking that drive that Jake May did when he
- 1:31:48Speaker 19: threw the interception, the drive was really clean up until
- 1:31:51Speaker 19: the point where he threw the pick. And I thought
- 1:31:53Speaker 19: that was the same with a lot of the picks
- 1:31:54Speaker 19: he threw against Seattle in week one. Is that a
- 1:31:57Speaker 19: bit of a concern? You know, he gets that far
- 1:31:59Speaker 19: down the field and then, like, well, the drive, like,
- 1:32:02Speaker 19: up until that point was really clean.
- 1:32:04Speaker 9: The game's on the line.
- 1:32:05Speaker 19: And then he kind of throws a bit of a,
- 1:32:07Speaker 19: I don't want to say a meatball because I don't
- 1:32:08Speaker 19: want to repeat all the media, but, well, it was
- 1:32:11Speaker 19: a meatball.
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: Okay. It is a concern, sure. Interceptions are a concern.
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. But the more he gets into those situations,
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: you hope the better he gets at making those decisions.
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: All right, Oliver, we got to go. But thanks for
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: calling us at 3 in the morning with that. Respect. Yep, respect.
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: Eddie in New York. Eddie. Eddie in New York.
- 1:32:41Speaker 8: Yes.
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: Yes, Eddie.
- 1:32:42Speaker 8: Eddie. Hey guys, how are you?
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: Good.
- 1:32:46Speaker 14: Two questions really quick.
- 1:32:48Speaker 8: Actually, two questions and I'll make it quick, I promise. One,
- 1:32:52Speaker 8: with the offensive line holding up reasonably well, you know,
- 1:32:55Speaker 8: with all the injuries and all the stuff. One, do
- 1:32:58Speaker 8: we keep Drake May in the shotgun?
- 1:33:00Speaker 9: Because obviously we.
- 1:33:01Speaker 8: Got to give receivers a little bit more time to
- 1:33:03Speaker 8: get open. Number two, Matt Collins' injury update. What's the
- 1:33:07Speaker 8: latest on him? And three, Fred, I really love that
- 1:33:11Speaker 8: pullover sweater. Hopefully it's online and I can find it somewhere.
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: I think it might be a Pro Shop exclusive, but
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:33:19Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:33:20Speaker 8: Thank you, guys.
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:33:23Speaker 6: Brian Thomas has nine catches. That's crazy.
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: He's completely out of... He doesn't play.
- 1:33:27Speaker 5: Why don't they trade him? I mean, that just seems
- 1:33:29Speaker 5: like we don't even need him. I think they're going to. Obviously,
- 1:33:31Speaker 5: people are clamoring for him.
- 1:33:32Speaker 6: I don't know what the NFL is.
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: I mean, I've been a big Brian Thomas guy, but
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: I don't understand why it doesn't work on one of
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: the best teams in the AFC.
- 1:33:39Speaker 6: Get rid of him, re-sign Parker Washington, or maybe get
- 1:33:42Speaker 6: a pick.
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: I don't know. Matt Collins?
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: Update?
- 1:33:45Speaker 6: Eligible next week.
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 1:33:47Speaker 6: He's been around. I don't know what that means, but
- 1:33:49Speaker 6: it's a good sign he's not. interaction or anything.
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: He's eligible to start practicing.
- 1:33:53Speaker 2: Yeah, next week.
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: Okay. And then, did he have another question?
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: No? All right.
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: And then finally, one more email.
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: I think they haven't been as productive under center, so
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: I think that's why they've seen so much shotgun.
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: Just one more email. Al from Wisconsin. If someone is
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: drinking black coffee at 7 p.m. to try to stay
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: up late, they aren't a real coffee head. I only
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: drink coffee black, and I could have a cup at
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: 7 and be asleep by 8. Well, yeah, you have
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: to be a real coffee head to do that. All right.
- 1:34:22Speaker 9: All right.
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: We've got to hurry.
- 1:34:24Speaker 6: Oh, geez. We've really got to hurry.
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: I don't know how we're going to make it.
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: That time of the week. Matt. Yeah. So at the
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: bottom of the pile this week was Mike and Evan
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: at 7-7. Wow. Alex, a little bit better at 8-6. Fred,
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: good job by you.
- 1:34:41Speaker 3: I got that Cincinnati game right.
- 1:34:44Speaker 6: Yeah, I know.
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: He gave us credit for that.
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: I know, but I got it right to begin with.
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: You get a win. Everybody got a win.
- 1:34:49Speaker 6: He gave himself and Fred credit.
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: So I got screwed by the Eagles last week.
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: That might be the case. Screwed by not getting head
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: this week. That might be the case, but I think
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: we all would have taken Cincinnati.
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: Did Fred and I get that Eagles game back when
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: Hurts went down?
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: I was not on that show, so we can neither
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: confirm nor deny. Fred, 9-5. Good job by you, Representative.
- 1:35:11Speaker 2: Paul went 11-3.
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: 11-3.
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: Wow. With the spread, the bottom is Mike at 5-8-1,
- 1:35:22Speaker 2: followed by Evan at 6-7-1. We'll get back to that
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: in a minute.
- 1:35:25Speaker 6: Oh, we're tied.
- 1:35:26Speaker 2: Because that means something. Alex and Fred, good job by
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: you guys.
- 1:35:29Speaker 12: 8-5-1.
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: Paul, 9-4-1. What are you doing? The season standings as follows. Paul, 74-32-1,
- 1:35:39Speaker 2: followed by Alex at 62-44-1, because as we know, she
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: don't take no crap from no one.
- 1:35:45Speaker 6: Valkyrie.
- 1:35:46Speaker 2: Valkyrie! Fred, 59-47-1.
- 1:35:47Speaker 6: Mike, 58-48-1.
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: And Evan, 56-50-1. That's getting tight.
- 1:35:51Speaker 13: Toys.
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: With the spread, Paul is 64-41-2.
- 1:36:03Speaker 4: He could be retired.
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: Retired.
- 1:36:04Speaker 13: Alex, 48-57-2.
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: Fred, 47-58-2.
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: And a tie in the basement.
- 1:36:05Speaker 6: Poop emoji for Mike and Evan at 43-62-2.
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: That's just poor to me. Things are getting interesting.
- 1:36:11Speaker 7: Okay.
- 1:36:11Speaker 9: All right.
- 1:36:26Speaker 3: Ready to go.
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: All right, we got to get going. Tonight, Thursday night,
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: it's Carolina 3-3 at Green Bay 4-3.
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: Green Bay by three and a half. Mike, your Panthers
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: did not play very well.
- 1:36:39Speaker 6: They did not play well last weekend.
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: Shaking my faith.
- 1:36:42Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:36:44Speaker 5: Even the loss, I thought the Packers continued to show
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: a little bit. I'm going to take Green Bay at home,
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: but I'm going to lay the points.
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: Go Pack, go.
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: So I'm definitely taking the Packers to win. I'll lay
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: the points, too. I'm tempted to take the hook, but
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: I'm not going to. Thursday night, I'll just stick with
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: the home team.
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: Yeah, this is a crossroads for the Panthers. They were
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: showing some life. They were showing they were a decent team.
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: They completely got killed by Tampa Bay last week. So
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: are they going to bounce back? Are they going to
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: show some life? I don't think so. I think Green
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: Bay wins this game and covers, so. They'll play better,
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: but they're going to lose. Sunday at 1, big game. Baltimore,
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: 4-3 at Buffalo, 5-1.
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: Really need Baltimore in this one for the Patriots. The
- 1:37:37Speaker 2: Bills by 3. And it seems as if LaMarvelous is back.
- 1:37:44Speaker 2: He was a full participant for the first time since
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: the injury yesterday.
- 1:37:49Speaker 6: Yeah, I just.
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: I'm not relying on you guys.
- 1:37:51Speaker 6: I'm not hot on Baltimore right now. I'm going to
- 1:37:54Speaker 6: go with Buffalo.
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: At home.
- 1:37:56Speaker 6: Uh, but I'm going to take the hook. I think
- 1:37:57Speaker 6: it's a close one.
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: No hook. Just a three.
- 1:38:00Speaker 7: Sorry.
- 1:38:03Speaker 3: I'll do the same.
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: All right. I, for some reason, Buffalo seems to have
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: Baltimore's number. Um, and I'm going to say that that
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: continues Buffalo.
- 1:38:16Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: I'd love to pick Baltimore here. I just don't see
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: them beating Buffalo right now. Um, so I'm picking Buffalo
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: and to cover, uh sunday at one tennessee one and
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: six at cincinnati four and two bengals by 10 and.
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: No jeffrey simmons you know no jeffrey simmons uh i'll.
- 1:38:38Speaker 5: Take cincy um and i'm gonna lay the i'm gonna
- 1:38:41Speaker 5: lay the 10 points i think tennessee might crawl into
- 1:38:44Speaker 5: a hole.
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: Yep A lot of points.
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: Do it.
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: But it's Tennessee.
- 1:38:50Speaker 8: I know.
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: On the road.
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: All right. I'll take the Bengals both ways.
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I got it, too. I hate doing it, but
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: I got to do it. Sunday at 1, Arizona 2-5
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: at Dallas 3-4.
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: Cowboys back in the Super Bowl picture after their big
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: win Monday night. Cowboys by 7. I was being sarcastic.
- 1:39:12Speaker 6: I sense that.
- 1:39:13Speaker 4: I sense that.
- 1:39:13Speaker 6: I'm going to take DeLoss, and I'll lay the 7s.
- 1:39:17Speaker 2: You take Dallas?
- 1:39:18Speaker 3: I like that.
- 1:39:20Speaker 6: Dallas Cowboys.
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: Dallas.
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:39:24Speaker 2: Cowboys, Cowboys. I'm going to take Dallas, but I do
- 1:39:30Speaker 2: not trust the Cowboys, so I will take the points.
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: Yeah, this is a pay-in game. So I go to
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: the window and I buy a couple points. Oh, you're
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: not allowed to do that in this show. No, if
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: I could do that, I would pick Arizona both ways. Otherwise,
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: pick in Dallas, but I'm taking those points. So this
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: would be a game where I.
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: So Dallas and then you have Arizona to cover. Is
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: that what you took? Dallas to win, Arizona to cover?
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: Dallas wins.
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: But they don't win by seven.
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: Okay. So they don't cover. But if I could buy
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: two points, I'd do it. But I can't.
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: No. Not on this show.
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: Sunday at 1, Minnesota 6-0 at Detroit 4-2.
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: Lions by three.
- 1:40:20Speaker 14: Three.
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: Wow. That's disrespect, Paul.
- 1:40:24Speaker 12: Come on.
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: For the Lions?
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: For Minnesota. Oh.
- 1:40:28Speaker 5: It's kind of a funny matchup where Detroit's defense stinks
- 1:40:31Speaker 5: and Minnesota's offense.
- 1:40:32Speaker 6: I mean, I know you like Kyler coming on a
- 1:40:34Speaker 6: little bit.
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: Not last week.
- 1:40:36Speaker 5: Not last week, but I'm going to go with Detroit
- 1:40:39Speaker 5: at home. Minnesota's got to lose at some point.
- 1:40:42Speaker 3: That's how I feel, too. This feels like a good
- 1:40:43Speaker 3: spot to lose your first game on the road to Detroit.
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: It's Two and a half?
- 1:40:49Speaker 14: Three?
- 1:40:49Speaker 4: Three.
- 1:40:51Speaker 3: Detroit, lay it.
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll take Detroit as well. I just think they
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: will have enough plays to beat the Blitz, and unless
- 1:41:01Speaker 2: the Vikings suddenly find an offense, I don't think they
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: keep up in Detroit.
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: You said Minnesota's favored by three?
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: Detroit by three.
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: Right. Disrespect. So I'll take Detroit, but I will take
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: the points. Okay.
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: What's up? It's a narrow thread-the-needle game. It is a
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: thread-the-needle game. The definition of the thread-the-needle game right there.
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: Sunday at 1, Indianapolis 2-5 against Jacksonville 4-2.
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: Jacksonville by 10.
- 1:41:33Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: Are we all taking Jacksonville here?
- 1:41:36Speaker 6: I'm going to take Jacksonville. I'm going to take the
- 1:41:37Speaker 6: points for the Colts, though.
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: Oh, okay. Division game.
- 1:41:41Speaker 6: I'm going to spin the dial a little bit on
- 1:41:42Speaker 6: that one.
- 1:41:45Speaker 3: I wanted to do that, too. Now I have pause because.
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: Because Deuce is in last place.
- 1:41:49Speaker 3: I'm doing a little too much of the same.
- 1:41:51Speaker 6: Picks as Deuce. I'm convinced that's just what you guys do.
- 1:41:53Speaker 6: You just sit there and listen to.
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: What I pick, and you're like, I'm doing the opposite.
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: It is a disadvantage to go first.
- 1:41:57Speaker 6: It is.
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: I think so.
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: Remember, Andy used to whine about.
- 1:42:00Speaker 6: That all the time. Andy left, and you're in your
- 1:42:04Speaker 6: first up.
- 1:42:04Speaker 3: Split it.
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: I think, and then we reversed it, and he still
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: did bad.
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm going to be with the panel here. I'll
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: take Jacksonville. If I'm not mistaken, is there a Jacksonville
- 1:42:16Speaker 2: indie thing? Someone owns the other.
- 1:42:18Speaker 6: I don't know that off the top of my head.
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: Obviously. I'm going to take.
- 1:42:21Speaker 3: That's what we rely on you for.
- 1:42:23Speaker 8: I know.
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: You know what? Never mind. I'm going to just take
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: Jacksonville both ways.
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: Smart move, Paul. That's the way to go. That's the play.
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: Sunday at one.
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: How much upheaval?
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: The Raiders, three and four at the New Jersey Jets,
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: two and five.
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: The Jets by one and a half.
- 1:42:42Speaker 13: Oh, God.
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: That is disrespect for the Raiders.
- 1:42:45Speaker 6: Yuck, yuck, yuck.
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: They're both terrible teams.
- 1:42:47Speaker 6: They're both terrible.
- 1:42:48Speaker 2: But the Jets just lost to the Dolphins.
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: Yeah, so?
- 1:42:51Speaker 6: At home.
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: And they're thinking of firing their coach.
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: Yeah, they are.
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: So?
- 1:42:58Speaker 6: I'm going to go with Vegas.
- 1:43:00Speaker 5: I know that they're having some questions about Kirk Cousins
- 1:43:03Speaker 5: and all that.
- 1:43:04Speaker 6: When's it time to switch? But I'll go with Vegas.
- 1:43:06Speaker 6: I just can't go with the Jets after last week.
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: Me neither. Me neither.
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: So this is where I go a little game theory, Freddie.
- 1:43:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: Jets. Yeah.
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: That's how you separate.
- 1:43:19Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:43:19Speaker 2: That's how you do the.
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: We know.
- 1:43:21Speaker 2: We know. No.
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: And Paul's right.
- 1:43:23Speaker 2: Jets win this game.
- 1:43:26Speaker 3: After the week or.
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: Paul is right. The Jets are going to come out firing.
- 1:43:31Speaker 2: They played really, really badly last week.
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: They're going to come out firing.
- 1:43:34Speaker 6: But is this like the thing with Geno Smith where
- 1:43:36Speaker 6: he looks confident?
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: Oh, I thought he played okay last week. The rest
- 1:43:39Speaker 2: of the team, the defense and everyone.
- 1:43:41Speaker 6: Omar Cooper I like, but I don't know.
- 1:43:43Speaker 5: I always feel like I've fallen for this before with
- 1:43:46Speaker 5: Geno Smith, and then he kind of falls off.
- 1:43:47Speaker 6: So I know maybe it hasn't started yet, but I
- 1:43:49Speaker 6: think it's going.
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: Sunday at 1, Cleveland 5-2 at Pittsburgh 5-2. Pittsburgh by 3.5.
- 1:43:54Speaker 13: Hmm.
- 1:44:00Speaker 6: This is a tough one.
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: Steelers keep winning. I know.
- 1:44:01Speaker 6: I know.
- 1:44:02Speaker 2: Pisses me off. Ah, shoot.
- 1:44:04Speaker 6: I'm going to go with the upset. I'm going to
- 1:44:06Speaker 6: go with Cleveland.
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: Cleveland.
- 1:44:10Speaker 4: Pittsburgh.
- 1:44:11Speaker 3: I don't like to pick against Pittsburgh at home.
- 1:44:14Speaker 2: Both ways? It's three and a half.
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: Three and a half. Why not?
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: I am going to split it. I will take the
- 1:44:21Speaker 2: Steelers to win at home and avenge their early season
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: loss in Cleveland, but I'll take the hook.
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: I will take Pittsburgh both ways. All right. Sunday at 1,
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: Atlanta 3-4 at Tampa Bay 2-5.
- 1:44:38Speaker 2: Tampa Bay by 2.5. Wow.
- 1:44:41Speaker 6: What happened last week with them? Did they just suddenly
- 1:44:43Speaker 6: figure it out?
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield played great.
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: He just handed the ball off and watched the defense
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: turn the ball over and give the ball to the
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: offense in good spots. They had like five pass attempts
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: in the third quarter or something like that.
- 1:44:58Speaker 5: I don't know, division game, there's some talent on each team,
- 1:45:01Speaker 5: but I'm going to go just with the home team.
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: I'll lay the point. Tampa.
- 1:45:05Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:45:06Speaker 3: Tampa, Tampa.
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: So this is my dumb pick of the week. I'm
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: going to take Atlanta. I feel like the Falcons are
- 1:45:14Speaker 2: the best team in that division, and they're starting to
- 1:45:16Speaker 2: show it. Now they could have an enormous letdown after
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: beating the Niners last week, but we all know who
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: had the Niners to lose last week. If you want
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: to look, you can see at the top of the standings.
- 1:45:30Speaker 6: He's getting annoyed.
- 1:45:31Speaker 3: Tooting his own horn.
- 1:45:33Speaker 2: It's very annoying.
- 1:45:34Speaker 3: Kind of rude.
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: Unfortunately, I'm going to go with Atlanta as well. Baker Mayfield,
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: I always say the league is better with him in it.
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: Now I think the league is, it doesn't matter whether he's.
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: In it or not.
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: It's good or it's bad. He's kind of wearing out.
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: You're a very smart man, though. You understand how to
- 1:45:51Speaker 2: start winning games.
- 1:45:56Speaker 6: Wish I could figure it out.
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: You can interpret that by just doing what I do.
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: I just like how you get mad when I pick
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: the game that you're going to pick. Right.
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: Because I need to catch up.
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: Yeah. But I don't know what you're going to pick.
- 1:46:13Speaker 2: Still bothers me.
- 1:46:14Speaker 6: That's why he's exasperated.
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: Now we move to Sunday, 4-0-5. The Chargers, 0-6 at
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: the Rams, 3-4.
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: Even though the Lack and the Lar both play at SoFi,
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: the Lar is the home team in this battle by 6-1-2.
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: Whenever a road team goes to SoFi, the road team's
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: fans take over. So does that mean no one's going
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: to be in the.
- 1:46:41Speaker 6: Stands this game?
- 1:46:42Speaker 2: Fred, I have the same exact thought.
- 1:46:43Speaker 6: It'll be a lot of fights.
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: Will this game be, like, sparsely attended?
- 1:46:47Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:46:47Speaker 6: Yeah, right.
- 1:46:50Speaker 2: Shoot, man.
- 1:46:50Speaker 5: I just don't know how you can pick the Chargers
- 1:46:52Speaker 5: right now. I'm going to go with the Rams, and
- 1:46:55Speaker 5: I'm going to actually lay the points, too.
- 1:46:58Speaker 3: I'm going to take the Rams, but I'll split it.
- 1:47:00Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah, I'm with Mike. I just need to see
- 1:47:06Speaker 2: something from the Chargers before I start to pick them
- 1:47:09Speaker 2: in anything. I'll take the Lauer both ways. Not that
- 1:47:11Speaker 2: the Lauer had been any great shakes this year.
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: What's the spread?
- 1:47:14Speaker 2: Six and a half.
- 1:47:15Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: I'll take the Rams, but I'll take the points. Why not?
- 1:47:19Speaker 2: Why not?
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: All right. Sunday, 425. Guess who's playing at home? Denver
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: at home, 5-2, hosting the Chiefs, 5-1.
- 1:47:32Speaker 2: So the Broncos are the other... team that's a home underdog.
- 1:47:37Speaker 2: Kansas City by one and a half.
- 1:47:40Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:47:41Speaker 2: Talk about disrespect.
- 1:47:42Speaker 6: Kansas City. Yeah, well, I'm going to go with Kansas City.
- 1:47:45Speaker 6: I'm going to bounce back after that loss to Seattle.
- 1:47:48Speaker 6: Play the point.
- 1:47:49Speaker 3: Kansas City lost last week?
- 1:47:51Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:47:51Speaker 3: I watched no football.
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: Hammered by Seattle.
- 1:47:54Speaker 6: Hmm.
- 1:47:57Speaker 3: Kansas City.
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: Yeah. I will take Denver at home. So win the game. Really?
- 1:48:06Speaker 6: Yeah. I feel like now every time Paul picks, I'm like,
- 1:48:08Speaker 6: that's what I should have done.
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: Obviously.
- 1:48:09Speaker 6: Why didn't you do that?
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: Really?
- 1:48:13Speaker 12: Why?
- 1:48:13Speaker 2: I think Denver's better.
- 1:48:15Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:48:15Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to pick the Chiefs.
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: So, there.
- 1:48:21Speaker 2: You guys have history on your side. I mean, they
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: played earlier in the year in Kansas City, hammered them.
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: But I think Denver remembers that. Yeah.
- 1:48:28Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: All right. Now we skip over the Patriots and we
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: go to Sunday night, 820. The Eagles, 2-5 against the Commanders, 1-4-1.
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: What do you think the spread is in this game?
- 1:48:41Speaker 2: Philadelphia at Washington. Two struggling teams.
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: Washington by five.
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: Good guess.
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: Six.
- 1:48:48Speaker 8: Six.
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: I was a little thrown by that spread. Really? Yeah.
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: That was a lot of points for a bad team
- 1:48:54Speaker 2: to be favored by. It is. Yeah, but Philly's reeling.
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: No, I know.
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:48:58Speaker 6: I'm going to take Washington. I'll take the points for Philly, though.
- 1:49:01Speaker 3: I'll go Commanders, Commanders.
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: Again, I'm going to Forfeit myself a pick. I'm going
- 1:49:06Speaker 2: to be with Mike and take Washington, but I will
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: take the points.
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: That's what I'm going to do. Washington and the points.
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: Two bad teams.
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: Too many matching Mike's picks.
- 1:49:17Speaker 7: Yep.
- 1:49:18Speaker 2: Monday night.
- 1:49:19Speaker 6: You have a cautionary tale now.
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: Cautionary tale.
- 1:49:21Speaker 3: It's scary territory to be in.
- 1:49:23Speaker 2: I like that phrase.
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: Monday night, 8-15, Chicago 5-2 against Seattle 4-3. NFC Conference
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: Championship preview, maybe?
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: So, Seattle by three. Do you think Jeffrey Simmons would
- 1:49:37Speaker 2: have enough time to play in this game?
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: Thursday?
- 1:49:41Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:49:42Speaker 2: Probably maybe, well, I guess you could get the extra
- 1:49:45Speaker 2: day with Monday so you have a practice day on
- 1:49:47Speaker 2: Friday and Saturday. Saturday.
- 1:49:49Speaker 6: You'll figure it out. He's too good. It's a big game.
- 1:49:51Speaker 5: It's national TV. I don't think you're going to be like, sorry, Jeffrey,
- 1:49:54Speaker 5: not this week. You traded two first-rounders for me?
- 1:49:56Speaker 6: I don't know how much.
- 1:49:57Speaker 2: It's not like he needs to know the whole system.
- 1:49:58Speaker 6: He's defensive.
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: Just go get that guy.
- 1:50:01Speaker 6: Go beat up, what's his face?
- 1:50:03Speaker 2: Seattle by three.
- 1:50:04Speaker 6: This is a great game. I'm excited to watch that one.
- 1:50:08Speaker 6: I'm going to just. I mean, Seattle's defense is really good.
- 1:50:12Speaker 2: I'm just struggling.
- 1:50:14Speaker 6: Caleb Williams looked really good. I'd love to see somebody
- 1:50:17Speaker 6: be able to solve that Seattle defense. I don't trust
- 1:50:21Speaker 6: Sam Darnold. I'm going to go with Seattle at home.
- 1:50:23Speaker 3: Me too.
- 1:50:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I will take Seattle as well. I do like Chicago.
- 1:50:30Speaker 2: I think they're a good team. I don't think they're
- 1:50:32Speaker 2: a fluke. And I don't think this, before you start,
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: I don't think this has anything to do with the
- 1:50:36Speaker 2: fact that they beat the Patriots the last game. I
- 1:50:38Speaker 2: just think Seattle at home is a different animal. I'll
- 1:50:41Speaker 2: take Seattle.
- 1:50:42Speaker 6: It's the 12s. Yeah.
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: I'm going to take Seattle too. I have a lot
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: of respect for McDonald and his defense. And I think
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: they'll have something, you know, dialed up for Caleb Williams.
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: And I think Seattle wins. But I think it's going
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: to be.
- 1:50:58Speaker 2: A good game. I think it should be a good game.
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: This is a good matchup for Monday night.
- 1:51:01Speaker 2: I wish it wasn't a Monday night. Yeah. But it
- 1:51:03Speaker 2: should be a good game. The only teams that seem
- 1:51:07Speaker 2: to play well in Seattle are the division teams. Yeah.
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: And it's... They're a little bit more accustomed to it. Yep. Yeah.
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: So I'm going to go with Seattle there. All right.
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: Now we can move back to the Patriots for 25
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: on Sunday. And you like the way I navigated us through.
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: So we have time for this game.
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: Just so you know, we only have nine minutes for
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: this pick. So the Patriots are favored by seven points,
- 1:51:32Speaker 2: making the dolphins and the Broncos, the two road underdogs
- 1:51:35Speaker 2: this week.
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:51:37Speaker 6: Well, I mean, I feel like we've done about eight
- 1:51:39Speaker 6: minutes of analysis on the game all week.
- 1:51:42Speaker 5: I'm going to go with the Patriots. I'm a little
- 1:51:45Speaker 5: bit shook earlier in the week, but I think they
- 1:51:46Speaker 5: win pretty convincingly in this one. I like Drake May.
- 1:51:49Speaker 5: I'd love to see A.J. Brown just get involved and
- 1:51:51Speaker 5: maybe have a game that you can build a little
- 1:51:53Speaker 5: bit off of, maybe get to run the ball a
- 1:51:56Speaker 5: tiny bit.
- 1:51:57Speaker 6: I just struggle with what we talked about yesterday. It's
- 1:51:59Speaker 6: like how much do you truly believe coming out of
- 1:52:01Speaker 6: this game? Is there anything that you can really say?
- 1:52:03Speaker 6: When I pick something to build off of.
- 1:52:05Speaker 2: You have to listen to the post-game show. You'll find
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: out how much we truly believe and what takeaways we have.
- 1:52:11Speaker 5: And the whole segment of what to build off of,
- 1:52:13Speaker 5: that'll be an interesting one to conjure up after this game.
- 1:52:17Speaker 6: So hopefully they click it on all cylinders. I'm going
- 1:52:19Speaker 6: to do Patriots 28-10. Patriots 30, Dolphins 9.
- 1:52:21Speaker 2: 30-9.
- 1:52:21Speaker 6: Three field goals. That's it.
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: That's it.
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I see it similar, 30 to 13.
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I think we're all around the same.
- 1:52:33Speaker 2: I don't see the Dolphins stopping the Patriots, and I
- 1:52:36Speaker 2: don't see the Dolphins having enough firepower to keep up.
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and so we all feel that way, yet the
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: Sharps only give this a seven-point spread. Are they trying
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: to get New England money? Are New England fans keeping
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: their wallets in their pockets?
- 1:52:49Speaker 3: Are we being baited?
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: You know, what's going on?
- 1:52:51Speaker 2: I think seven-point road favorite is pretty big, especially in
- 1:52:54Speaker 2: a division game. I think that's a pretty big spread.
- 1:52:59Speaker 2: When was the last time the Patriots were favored?
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: I know, but you're all.
- 1:53:01Speaker 2: More than a touchdown in Miami.
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: Everybody here is predicting a blowout.
- 1:53:05Speaker 2: Well, that doesn't mean I'm right.
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: No, I know, but it seems to be unanimous on
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: the board, and yet it's only a seven-point spread.
- 1:53:12Speaker 2: We are also all homers.
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: No, but look at the record, right?
- 1:53:18Speaker 2: Whose record do you want to look at?
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: Look at your record, and you're predicting a blowout. Alex
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: has a good record. She's predicting a blowout.
- 1:53:26Speaker 6: Deuce has a terrible record. He's predicting a blowout.
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean... So what's going on here? Are New
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: England fans a little bit hesitant betting on the Patriots
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: this year? I don't know, Fred.
- 1:53:39Speaker 2: Perhaps.
- 1:53:40Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: You have to look at this, Paul. You have to
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: look at this, Paul.
- 1:53:44Speaker 2: So are you taking the points? What? Are you taking
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: the points?
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: Taking the points.
- 1:53:48Speaker 2: Yeah, you're taking the points. I mean, you seem to
- 1:53:50Speaker 2: be very concerned that everybody has a blowout and the
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: spread hasn't moved. So clearly you're going to take the points.
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: I'm looking for this spread to move a little bit
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: as we get closer to the game.
- 1:53:59Speaker 2: Okay. It's Thursday.
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: I think it's going to get wider.
- 1:54:02Speaker 2: I believe it's moved the other direction. I think it
- 1:54:04Speaker 2: opened at 7.5.
- 1:54:05Speaker 6: Going down now.
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: I think it's good.
- 1:54:06Speaker 2: I think it's down to 7.
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: When did it move?
- 1:54:09Speaker 2: I don't know if it moved or not.
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: Did it have to do with A.J. Brown on the
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: participation report?
- 1:54:13Speaker 2: No, I have a question about that, but I think
- 1:54:15Speaker 2: I'll leave that one to you.
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: I'm going to take New England both ways. They're going
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: to cover. And your scores are about what I was
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: going to say, but I'll up it a little bit.
- 1:54:25Speaker 9: 34-10.
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: 34-10. Week 18 of 2021, Patford favored minus 6.5 against Miami.
- 1:54:28Speaker 2: That was the last big number.
- 1:54:29Speaker 6: Week 18 of 2021.
- 1:54:30Speaker 2: It was probably like.
- 1:54:39Speaker 5: Subs and COVID guys and Patriots streak.
- 1:54:43Speaker 6: Patriots probably coming off that Jacksonville game where they destroyed.
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: And what was the outcome of that game?
- 1:54:49Speaker 6: We don't know. Nobody knows.
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: They never played it. They canceled it.
- 1:54:54Speaker 2: Nobody knows.
- 1:54:54Speaker 6: They canceled it.
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: Fell into the Bermuda Triangle.
- 1:54:59Speaker 2: 17-16.
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: Holy crap. Who won? Miami.
- 1:55:03Speaker 2: I have no recollection of this game at all.
- 1:55:06Speaker 6: Did he say 2001? What?
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: 21.
- 1:55:09Speaker 2: I got the wrong spot. Miami won.
- 1:55:13Speaker 11: 17-16?
- 1:55:13Speaker 2: I don't recall the game.
- 1:55:14Speaker 6: 21. I'm efforting that.
- 1:55:17Speaker 3: COVID was a blur.
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:55:19Speaker 13: 33-24.
- 1:55:19Speaker 5: They lost. And that was, they came off the, yeah,
- 1:55:24Speaker 5: they beat Jacksonville 50-10. And then let's see, what happened?
- 1:55:27Speaker 5: Jalen Waddell, seven-yard touchdown.
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: 33-24.
- 1:55:30Speaker 2: There was a fourth-down touchdown, I want to say, in
- 1:55:33Speaker 2: that game.
- 1:55:34Speaker 6: Jason Sanders, 30-yard field, 17-0. Brandon Bolden gets a 17-7.
- 1:55:39Speaker 6: They just can't catch up. Had a few plays.
- 1:55:41Speaker 2: This is 2021? Yep.
- 1:55:43Speaker 5: Mack Jones, Brandon Bolden. Brandon Bolden had two touchdowns. I
- 1:55:48Speaker 5: don't really have much memory.
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: Of this game at all.
- 1:55:50Speaker 3: There's a gap in your knowledge that year.
- 1:55:52Speaker 2: Well, the more recent it is, the less I know.
- 1:55:54Speaker 2: That's what I'll question. The first thing that goes.
- 1:55:57Speaker 3: And the COVID brain fog.
- 1:56:00Speaker 2: You ain't lying, Fred. I'm concerned about it. I lose
- 1:56:04Speaker 2: my keys constantly.
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: So, Patriots fans, if you are thinking of laying some
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: dough on this game, do it now because I think
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: that spread's going to go up between now and Sunday,
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: just so you know.
- 1:56:17Speaker 3: We'll keep an eye on it.
- 1:56:19Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:56:20Speaker 2: Got to hurry.
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: All right. That's going to be it for this edition
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: of Patriots Unfiltered. We really finished with a bang.
- 1:56:26Speaker 2: We all like the Patriots. It's kind of like Mike said.
- 1:56:29Speaker 2: We spent like 10 minutes talking about the game all week.
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: 425 game. Patriots are now in that stretch of non-one
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: o'clock game. What time does the pregame show start?
- 1:56:38Speaker 2: Three to four.
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: Three to four.
- 1:56:41Speaker 2: Three to four.
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: So you're going to have a big 25-minute gap before
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: the game.
- 1:56:44Speaker 4: Okay. All right.
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: And then you've got the postgame show right afterwards.
- 1:56:49Speaker 6: And that's it.
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: Tune in for that, and we will see you next Tuesday.
- 1:56:55Speaker 6: Hey, this is Deuce. Thanks for tuning into the show.
- 1:56:57Speaker 5: If you really want to help us, make sure you
- 1:56:59Speaker 5: like us wherever you get your podcasts, like Apple Podcasts
- 1:57:01Speaker 5: or Spotify. Also, make sure you follow us on the
- 1:57:04Speaker 5: New England Patriots YouTube channel to see this show.
- 1:57:06Speaker 4: And everything else that we do here at the Patriots.
- 1:57:07Speaker 6: Thanks a lot.
