- 1:36Speaker 5: I'm great.
- 1:36Speaker 3: How are you guys doing fantastic? Well, I mean we're
- 1:39Speaker 3: doing good to tripod. Flynn's got a tummy ache. He's
- 1:42Speaker 3: not here today.
- 1:43Speaker 5: Oh that's too bad.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Yeah, a little tummy ache.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Not here today.
- 1:49Speaker 3: He's got the you know, like when you're sick and
- 1:50Speaker 3: you got the covers pulled all the way up to
- 1:52Speaker 3: your chin and you're sitting there, you got a rag
- 1:54Speaker 3: on your head, thermometer in your mouth.
- 1:55Speaker 6: That's him today, Little Tierra.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Yeah that too. You heild it exactly right.
- 2:02Speaker 3: All right, Chef, I want to ask you this before
- 2:04Speaker 3: before we get started crawfish season. All right, crawfish going
- 2:12Speaker 3: all over the place. A lot of good spots around
- 2:16Speaker 3: town there, but I don't think we've ever asked you this,
- 2:19Speaker 3: which is wild. We're I was passing by one yesterday
- 2:23Speaker 3: and my ten year old son goes, hey, Dad, like,
- 2:25Speaker 3: where's the best crawfish in Louisiana?
- 2:29Speaker 4: Like, where's the best place.
- 2:30Speaker 3: I'm sitting there thinking, like, you know what, I don't know,
- 2:32Speaker 3: but I know who's going to know, and I'm going
- 2:34Speaker 3: to ask him tomorrow. So, Chef, I'm going to put
- 2:37Speaker 3: you on the spot, maybe the most important question you
- 2:39Speaker 3: can be asking in Louisiana of your time here in
- 2:43Speaker 3: the Great State. The best crawfish, the best crawfish spot?
- 2:47Speaker 5: Well, I'll just start by saying that this is a
- 2:50Speaker 5: highly debated subject and there is, without a doubt some
- 2:56Speaker 5: people who are going to disagree with me. I think,
- 3:01Speaker 5: you know, the best crawfish that I've had, and I'll
- 3:03Speaker 5: just leave it at my opinion versus everybody else's have
- 3:06Speaker 5: come from the Spillway. I you know, I think that
- 3:11Speaker 5: they grow differently there. I don't know, you know, it's opinionated, man.
- 3:15Speaker 5: You know, like farm crawfish are are rather the I
- 3:20Speaker 5: don't know that there's there's differences in them, right, I
- 3:24Speaker 5: think that the spillway crawfish have a little bit more
- 3:29Speaker 5: natural settings. But I also buy, you know, farm crawfish
- 3:34Speaker 5: from from rice farms that are absolutely delicious and they
- 3:37Speaker 5: grow really well, you know what I mean. So it's
- 3:41Speaker 5: a tough question to answer, man, because you know, it
- 3:45Speaker 5: depends on the energy of the people that are farming them,
- 3:49Speaker 5: I think, and how much care and attention to putting
- 3:51Speaker 5: into them. Because farm there are farmers out there who
- 3:53Speaker 5: pay attention to it, that are are very good at
- 3:55Speaker 5: what they do and and know how to treat the ground.
- 3:59Speaker 5: Because the crawfish live off the ground and off the soil,
- 4:02Speaker 5: you know, and what's in the soil and so that
- 4:04Speaker 5: the quality of the soil matters, and so yeah.
- 4:10Speaker 3: You know, we it's funny, like we used to have
- 4:12Speaker 3: a little crawfish. We had like a little creek that
- 4:14Speaker 3: ran behind our house in San Diego, and we used
- 4:16Speaker 3: to have a little crawfish out there.
- 4:19Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Like, I gotta be honest with you, Chef, I had
- 4:22Speaker 3: no idea that was even a possibility.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:26Speaker 4: I was like, man, you know you got crawfish out here.
- 4:28Speaker 3: It's like, oh no, yeah, actually, right there in the
- 4:30Speaker 3: creek behind your house, there's crawfish.
- 4:31Speaker 5: Yeah. Well it's in San Diego. They are either crawdads
- 4:34Speaker 5: or crazy fish.
- 4:35Speaker 4: That's true too.
- 4:35Speaker 3: But you know me, I was about to say that
- 4:37Speaker 3: that's right. I was not about to change my ways.
- 4:40Speaker 4: That was not I grew up.
- 4:42Speaker 5: I grew up in the creeks of Missouri, and we
- 4:44Speaker 5: used to have big, big blue crawfish up there. Oh
- 4:47Speaker 5: you called them crawdads. Yeah, and it's a different species yet,
- 4:50Speaker 5: that's right.
- 4:51Speaker 4: All right. Hashtag Munchie's best side to go with the.
- 4:54Speaker 5: Steak, baked potato with mashed potato. Got you know, like
- 5:00Speaker 5: for me, it's a potato. I know, we're in the
- 5:02Speaker 5: land of rice down here. But if it's if it's
- 5:05Speaker 5: a steak, it's going to be a potato for me. Now,
- 5:07Speaker 5: if you're talking about starch versus bdge bige, I absolutely
- 5:12Speaker 5: love grilled asparagus with a little olive oil, a squeeze
- 5:15Speaker 5: of lemon juice, a little sprinkle with Kosha salt, maybe
- 5:18Speaker 5: some cracked black pepper, you know, just blanched, grilled and delivered.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Yeah, hashtag munchies, no question, Just a thanks for the
- 5:28Speaker 3: advice last week on sticking a bag of ice in
- 5:30Speaker 3: the gumbo to cool it down quickly worked out great
- 5:33Speaker 3: this past weekend.
- 5:34Speaker 5: Awesome, that sounds good.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Yeah, it's always the hacks.
- 5:38Speaker 3: It's always the hacks that I find fascinating that Yeah,
- 5:42Speaker 3: you know, lived for a long time and didn't even
- 5:44Speaker 3: know that you can.
- 5:45Speaker 5: Necessity is the mother of invention, brother, you know what
- 5:47Speaker 5: I mean?
- 5:48Speaker 4: Yeah, that is true.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Hashtag munchies. What is the best food to slow cook?
- 5:53Speaker 3: I guess I'm assuming it means like, what's the best
- 5:56Speaker 3: one if you give it its time and it's proper
- 5:59Speaker 3: technique to cook and maybe it gets better as the
- 6:01Speaker 3: time goes well.
- 6:03Speaker 5: By nature, things that need to be slow cooked are are,
- 6:07Speaker 5: you know, like muscle tissues that have a lot of
- 6:09Speaker 5: connective tissue in it, a lot of elastin in it.
- 6:13Speaker 5: So you have two types of bat. You have collagen
- 6:14Speaker 5: that melts away and it's soft and tastes good, and
- 6:17Speaker 5: then you have elastin it a last and when it cooks,
- 6:20Speaker 5: when it heats up it, it tends to get tough
- 6:22Speaker 5: first and will shrivel. Thus the elastin it's kind of elastic.
- 6:27Speaker 5: But after a while that will give way. And so
- 6:30Speaker 5: you know, those those cuts of meats that are more
- 6:34Speaker 5: used on the creature's body, like the shoulders and the rumps,
- 6:37Speaker 5: and those those pieces on the closer to the ends,
- 6:39Speaker 5: if you will, those are going to be the pieces
- 6:42Speaker 5: that benefit greatest from because the connective tissue is greater there.
- 6:46Speaker 5: And if you if you slow cook something like a
- 6:48Speaker 5: beef tenderloin, you know it's going to turn the mush
- 6:51Speaker 5: because it's you know what I mean, that's not no hey,
- 6:56Speaker 5: I mean, there's go ahead.
- 6:58Speaker 4: What about okay? What about one?
- 6:59Speaker 3: I don't mean to cut you off there, but my
- 7:00Speaker 3: brain squirrel like one like chili. Like I've always heard
- 7:04Speaker 3: people be like, hey, you want to slow cook this
- 7:06Speaker 3: chili that.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Like, yeah, that.
- 7:09Speaker 3: One's a little different because it's not the things that
- 7:10Speaker 3: we're talking about there. It's like a lot of the
- 7:12Speaker 3: same ingredients maybe that you wouldn't want to cook for
- 7:15Speaker 3: a long time.
- 7:15Speaker 4: Why do people always stay with chili?
- 7:17Speaker 5: So I think with chili, it is kind of the
- 7:19Speaker 5: same with soups, right, Like it's not just the slow
- 7:22Speaker 5: cooking process, it's the amount of time that it spins together,
- 7:26Speaker 5: if that makes sense. Like the flavor, like the flavors
- 7:29Speaker 5: melding together. You know, like theoretically it's well won if
- 7:33Speaker 5: you're if you're using beans in your chili that are dry,
- 7:37Speaker 5: you got to take time to cook those, right So
- 7:40Speaker 5: there in is one of those things. You know, if
- 7:43Speaker 5: you're using ground beef, it doesn't really it's not to
- 7:46Speaker 5: tenderize the ground beef obviously. It really is about you know,
- 7:50Speaker 5: letting those those flavors melt together. And you know, if
- 7:54Speaker 5: you're serving it immediately, you absolutely need to slow cook
- 7:58Speaker 5: it and long cook it because the longer it's in
- 8:00Speaker 5: the pot and the pan underheat, you know, the more
- 8:03Speaker 5: this flavor is gonna meld together. But you can also
- 8:06Speaker 5: cool it and put it in the in the refrigerator
- 8:09Speaker 5: overnight and it will you know, like overnight soup, overnight
- 8:11Speaker 5: chili is gonna taste better on day two than day one.
- 8:15Speaker 5: There's no scene other butts about it. That is, you know,
- 8:17Speaker 5: like that is gastronomically true, if you.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Will hashtag munchies.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Is beefloin top surloin with cap off a good cut.
- 8:27Speaker 5: Of steak beef surloin cap off? Yeah, I mean in
- 8:34Speaker 5: it's not the worst cut of steak, you know what
- 8:36Speaker 5: I mean? Like, it depends on your flate, on your
- 8:39Speaker 5: favor for texture, really, you know, so surloin, almost any
- 8:44Speaker 5: type of surloin is going to have a relatively firm texture,
- 8:47Speaker 5: but you can grill it over an open flame, like
- 8:50Speaker 5: you can play a ribbi or a or a tenderloin.
- 8:54Speaker 5: So the strip loin is technically a part of a surloin.
- 8:57Speaker 5: It's called the short loin. So stain cuts as a
- 9:00Speaker 5: whole are going to be somewhere in between the toughest
- 9:04Speaker 5: of cuts and the most tender of cuts. So it's
- 9:07Speaker 5: it's midway, and you know, like it it really is
- 9:09Speaker 5: about the texture. You want to look for the marbling.
- 9:11Speaker 5: If you're looking for a tasty steak. You know, you
- 9:14Speaker 5: need to make sure that it has marbling in there, right,
- 9:17Speaker 5: But if you're just looking for a good clean protein,
- 9:21Speaker 5: the surtll looin is going to offer a mixture of
- 9:23Speaker 5: both of those things, right, Like the ribbi has a
- 9:25Speaker 5: lot of fat, tinderlin doesn't have much. A curtloin is
- 9:29Speaker 5: going to be somewhere in the middle or should.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Be hashtag munchies.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Is it safe to put a can of green beans
- 9:37Speaker 3: with holes punched in it into a crawfish boil when
- 9:41Speaker 3: all the cans have a plastic liner.
- 9:45Speaker 5: I don't put metal in Some would. I wouldn't put
- 9:47Speaker 5: metal into my craw fish boil. I would. I would
- 9:49Speaker 5: fear that it's going to, you know, distaste it. If
- 9:53Speaker 5: you're going to one, I think I would prefer cook
- 9:57Speaker 5: fresh green beans in it versus canned just out of preference.
- 10:01Speaker 5: I don't like canned.
- 10:02Speaker 6: Foods as a whole.
- 10:03Speaker 5: I would buy frozen green beans to canned green beans.
- 10:06Speaker 5: And I'm not putting anything metal into my into my
- 10:10Speaker 5: boil because you know, like they oftentimes those those the
- 10:14Speaker 5: vegetables that are being canned, you know, like they have
- 10:16Speaker 5: nutrition to them, but they're least nutrient quality of all things,
- 10:20Speaker 5: but also it tends to be it tends to leave
- 10:23Speaker 5: a metallic flavor, right. And I just have this philosophy
- 10:27Speaker 5: of don't put things into your food you don't want
- 10:29Speaker 5: to taste, right, are you? Is it safe? You know,
- 10:33Speaker 5: like I think it's safe. Is it necessary? I think
- 10:36Speaker 5: that there's better ways of going about it.
- 10:40Speaker 3: How about this one, chef I think you'll appreciate this
- 10:43Speaker 3: one did a rump roast in the crock pot and
- 10:45Speaker 3: didn't realize the little plastic paper thing on the bottom
- 10:48Speaker 3: stuck to the roast. Yep, eight hours of slow cooked plastic.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Oh man, I feel like that's probably happened as so
- 10:58Speaker 3: many people.
- 10:58Speaker 5: Oh man, we're laughing with you. Not actually be fault,
- 11:03Speaker 5: you know. I I remember I had a I had
- 11:06Speaker 5: a You know, when you eat something or you have
- 11:09Speaker 5: it you share like a flavor, it takes you back
- 11:11Speaker 5: to a memory sometimes. And I was eating a sandwich
- 11:16Speaker 5: the other day and it failed to pull the paper
- 11:19Speaker 5: properly from between the slices of cheese, and I put
- 11:23Speaker 5: it on my sandwich and wasn't even paying attention, you know,
- 11:26Speaker 5: like there was one piece of cheese that had paper
- 11:28Speaker 5: on the bottom side.
- 11:29Speaker 7: Of it.
- 11:29Speaker 5: I didn't see it. So when I've been into my sandwich,
- 11:31Speaker 5: I was like, damn, there's something tough in here, right,
- 11:34Speaker 5: So I it took me back to when I was
- 11:37Speaker 5: a father and having children, and I did the base
- 11:41Speaker 5: like I made a sandwich with my eyes closed. Somehow.
- 11:43Speaker 5: I was up, you know, feeding my daughter when she
- 11:45Speaker 5: was like two. And yeah, so we've we've all been there.
- 11:48Speaker 4: Oh, there's no doubt about it.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Chefer's still a father, by the way. But I also
- 12:00Speaker 3: totally understand what you're saying when those late night feedings
- 12:02Speaker 3: and you're getting up and yeah, you're you don't really
- 12:04Speaker 3: know what happened.
- 12:05Speaker 4: You just be trying to find something, and yeah, sometimes.
- 12:08Speaker 2: It doesn't work out all right, hashtag munchies. Let's see,
- 12:14Speaker 2: no ask one about that.
- 12:17Speaker 3: What's the last fresh fish the chef has caught and
- 12:20Speaker 3: made for himself?
- 12:22Speaker 5: Ooh gosh, last time I was fishing, I think redfish.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Say, it can't be that long ago. I know how
- 12:30Speaker 4: much you put a lot on the water.
- 12:31Speaker 5: Actually, I've been doing a decent amount of fishing, so
- 12:33Speaker 5: I'm trying to decide. I had some catfish, you know,
- 12:37Speaker 5: I love catfish. I think the last time I was fishing,
- 12:39Speaker 5: I was both fishing with my brother and be a
- 12:41Speaker 5: red fish nice.
- 12:43Speaker 3: You know what this might be like the redneck part
- 12:45Speaker 3: of me coming out. It might be the three one
- 12:47Speaker 3: eight coming out of me. But like, there's great fish
- 12:50Speaker 3: all throughout the golf, no doubt about it.
- 12:53Speaker 2: I'll eat almost all of it. I love fish, one
- 12:55Speaker 2: of my favorite things.
- 12:56Speaker 3: But by god, a thin cut piece of fried catfish, yeah,
- 13:00Speaker 3: it's so hard to beat.
- 13:02Speaker 5: It is, it's it's it's just you know, like I
- 13:05Speaker 5: prefer it then cut over like over like the whole.
- 13:08Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 13:08Speaker 5: Yeah, I like that crispiness and it Yeah, it's.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Kind of like, yeah, all right, we got to end
- 13:14Speaker 2: on that one.
- 13:14Speaker 4: Can't go any farther down the road after that, bad boy.
- 13:16Speaker 2: I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 13:18Speaker 5: Do you take tartar sauce with your catfish?
- 13:20Speaker 4: I do? Absolutely?
- 13:21Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely?
- 13:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:23Speaker 3: What's your favorite side with cat Like I'm like a
- 13:25Speaker 3: child when it comes to catfish, Like, I'd love like
- 13:28Speaker 3: some catfish and French fries.
- 13:30Speaker 4: I gotta be honest with you.
- 13:31Speaker 5: The French fries are it, you know, like in state
- 13:33Speaker 5: cut fries. Even more so than that, I'll tell you
- 13:36Speaker 5: what what is not going to be eaten with my catfish.
- 13:39Speaker 5: I don't know why anybody ever decided that the coal
- 13:42Speaker 5: flaw was a proper food, but I mean, like just people.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Oh no, chef not a fan of.
- 13:49Speaker 5: No, not at all. I mean circumstances, but yeah, it
- 13:54Speaker 5: just seems like one of those you know, fillers that
- 13:57Speaker 5: isn't necessary for me.
- 14:01Speaker 3: All right, All right, now that we know that, I
- 14:02Speaker 3: think that's like one of the few things that you've
- 14:04Speaker 3: ever said.
- 14:05Speaker 4: That you just don't like.
- 14:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I eat most foods and I'll eat just not
- 14:11Speaker 5: you know.
- 14:13Speaker 3: All right, Chef, we appreciate you every single week. We
- 14:16Speaker 3: look forward to it every single week. Enjoy the rest
- 14:17Speaker 3: of your week. We'll catch up next week.
- 14:19Speaker 5: Take care, jack.
- 14:22Speaker 4: Man. I love coleslaw. I don't know about y'all.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Like I'm the guy that can getting.
- 14:29Speaker 9: A cane depends on the place most of the time.
- 14:31Speaker 3: I'm not a cl I'm going bread, coleslaw, tindy cane, sauce,
- 14:38Speaker 3: French fry, roll that thing up, basically make it a sandwich.
- 14:42Speaker 10: That's what I do.
- 14:44Speaker 2: I love coleslaw.
- 14:45Speaker 10: I'm not anti. I'm not part of the anti cos
- 14:48Speaker 10: me neither.
- 14:48Speaker 4: I love it. Like I'm a pull pork barbecue sandwich.
- 14:52Speaker 9: I do love that.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Like you imagine if you know Elandre and I big
- 14:57Speaker 3: BUCkies fans. You imagine if they had coal and that
- 15:00Speaker 3: pull pork sandwich, I.
- 15:01Speaker 10: Would actually be really good.
- 15:05Speaker 11: I also like to put potato salad like all my
- 15:07Speaker 11: brisket sandwiches.
- 15:08Speaker 9: Do they do?
- 15:08Speaker 4: They do that?
- 15:09Speaker 12: They have yellow yell are given good suggestions. I'm going
- 15:12Speaker 12: to BUCkies this weekend because we're going to the beach.
- 15:14Speaker 12: Do they have potato salad and or coolestal? They do
- 15:17Speaker 12: have potato salad, but we're trying that.
- 15:19Speaker 4: I bet they have those.
- 15:20Speaker 9: I will report back.
- 15:21Speaker 10: I've never seen cold. They probably do have it. I've
- 15:24Speaker 10: never seen it, but I know I've seen potato salad.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Their favorite thing of BUCkies the.
- 15:30Speaker 11: Brisket, the chopped beef sandwich. But I love the chips
- 15:34Speaker 11: that they made.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Yeah, like those honey glazed pecans.
- 15:39Speaker 9: Yeah, I'll go a little bit different.
- 15:40Speaker 12: In their bakery section, you can get like the cookies individual,
- 15:44Speaker 12: but if you look close, you can get a six
- 15:46Speaker 12: pack for like six bucks. Their chocolate chip cookies Elite.
- 15:51Speaker 4: Yeah, chot the BUCkies.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Well stop three times, I don't I don't eat four
- 16:00Speaker 3: out of the six whenever me and Victoria get them.
- 16:02Speaker 9: That's totally not true.
- 16:03Speaker 11: But I wonder, all right, I wonder if Matt stopped
- 16:05Speaker 11: on his way back, because remember he drove before us
- 16:08Speaker 11: on the way back.
- 16:09Speaker 7: He ran.
- 16:09Speaker 4: Oh yeah, ran a car. I know we stopped.
- 16:12Speaker 10: We stopped for sure.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I wonder if man did. He definitely did when
- 16:16Speaker 2: he's not with a tummy ache.
- 16:18Speaker 3: All right, we'll take a break. We got Jay Johnson

- 17:44Speaker 1: the bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 17:49Speaker 7: Sometimes you want to take you down.
- 17:55Speaker 8: Sometime I want to get you brush your hair back
- 18:01Speaker 8: from your rise, but take you down and let the.
- 18:07Speaker 7: River of blows.
- 18:33Speaker 4: All right, Welcome back in OTV.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Here a lot from the Raising Canes studio. You're gonna
- 18:39Speaker 3: be back out on the practice field today. Offense found
- 18:45Speaker 3: its way back after a rough Saturday to win the day.
- 18:47Speaker 4: It sounded like on Tuesday, heyday, we're going out there.
- 18:53Speaker 12: Uh no, actually probably out there right now. They don't
- 18:57Speaker 12: really like when you show up late, the.
- 18:59Speaker 9: Kind of let all them at one time.
- 19:01Speaker 12: Yeah, so like during the week, Like that's why I
- 19:03Speaker 12: went Saturday.
- 19:04Speaker 2: But I think you'll get to stay the whole practice.
- 19:06Speaker 9: Now though, Yeah, yesterday, they're not.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Mine now probably like maybe before when you had like
- 19:10Speaker 3: forty five minute viewing.
- 19:11Speaker 9: Yeah, something like that.
- 19:13Speaker 2: All right, you know who's supposed to go today, but
- 19:19Speaker 2: somebody sick?
- 19:21Speaker 3: Matt Flynn, Me and Matt, Matt and I, Me and
- 19:25Speaker 3: Matt Clayton, and I see.
- 19:28Speaker 9: If JaMarcus is still in town, go with him instead.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Yeah, you might bust in your mouth.
- 19:33Speaker 5: You know what?
- 19:34Speaker 9: Apparently does that?
- 19:35Speaker 10: Maybe don't do that, he said it not me.
- 19:40Speaker 9: You maybe skip that. Maybe maybe maybe don't send that text?
- 19:44Speaker 3: He did, shout out Jay Russ. So I guess we're
- 19:49Speaker 3: not going the whole point. Do we think Matthew's gonna
- 19:56Speaker 3: be here tomorrow?
- 19:57Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 19:57Speaker 10: Yeah, I think he'll. I think he'll pull it together.
- 19:59Speaker 11: I mean, he said he was gonna beat it faster
- 20:01Speaker 11: than anybody's ever beat it.
- 20:03Speaker 3: He basically tried to pull the hardball line an enthusiasm
- 20:06Speaker 3: unknown to mankind, but it got him. I'm gonna beat
- 20:12Speaker 3: this way faster than any other human. How'd that turn out?
- 20:20Speaker 12: I thought it was funny because he sent that text
- 20:22Speaker 12: and then like an hour later that I really don't
- 20:24Speaker 12: feel good you feel worse now than when you sent that.
- 20:29Speaker 10: I appreciate that he tried to be like, no, I'm
- 20:32Speaker 10: gonna beat this.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I mean, do you if he's like it's
- 20:36Speaker 3: lip service at this point? You know, you could just
- 20:39Speaker 3: be like, hey, man, I'm down and now like I
- 20:41Speaker 3: ain't gonna be there. Like then I probably would have like, okay,
- 20:44Speaker 3: probably playing a little bit different because he didn't like guests.
- 20:47Speaker 4: I like guests.
- 20:48Speaker 3: So when he said like he was going to beat
- 20:51Speaker 3: it with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind, I was like, oh,
- 20:54Speaker 3: he's going to be here, but then it beat him up.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it's fine, all right.
- 21:00Speaker 3: Brad Crawford over at CBS Sports put out an article
- 21:03Speaker 3: the best case and worst case scenarios for each team
- 21:06Speaker 3: in the top twenty five.
- 21:07Speaker 4: And we don't care about the other twenty four teams.
- 21:09Speaker 3: We care about the LSU Tigers, and for this article,
- 21:13Speaker 3: it says the best case scenario would be eleven to
- 21:16Speaker 3: one overall, eight and one in conference play. The write
- 21:23Speaker 3: up says, well, the bad news the only SEC elite
- 21:26Speaker 3: not only in gibbons first year schedule at LSU is Georgia.
- 21:29Speaker 3: The good news the Tigers just spent more on talent
- 21:32Speaker 3: than they ever have previously, and have assured this coaching
- 21:35Speaker 3: staff that production is coming across all position groups. Kiffin
- 21:40Speaker 3: has preached patients this all season, but let's face it,
- 21:42Speaker 3: failing to reach the CFP in year number one will
- 21:45Speaker 3: not meet expectations, all right, So put that in the
- 21:48Speaker 3: back of your memory bank. Worst case scenario eight and
- 21:51Speaker 3: four overall six and three in league play. The old
- 21:54Speaker 3: miss faithful would pay anything to see this happen, but truthfully,
- 21:58Speaker 3: the Tigers roster looks relatively full proof.
- 22:00Speaker 9: Overall.
- 22:01Speaker 3: LSU could still recover from an opening lost to Clemson
- 22:04Speaker 3: during conference non conference action, but not if new quarterback
- 22:09Speaker 3: Sam Levitt has his confidence rattled in the face of
- 22:12Speaker 3: enormous pressure as this portal cycle's top ranked player. All right,
- 22:16Speaker 3: so let's talk about both scenarios. Best case eleven to one,
- 22:19Speaker 3: worst case eight and four. If the worst case scenario
- 22:23Speaker 3: happened eight and four, six and three in league play,
- 22:27Speaker 3: what does that look like?
- 22:29Speaker 9: Who'd you lose to? Would be my question.
- 22:32Speaker 4: You can well, if it's.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Eight and four to six and three and league play
- 22:34Speaker 3: you lost to Clemson, Yeah, that's the obvious one. So
- 22:38Speaker 3: let's say eight and four, you lose to Clemson, you
- 22:41Speaker 3: lose to Texas, you lose to.
- 22:46Speaker 4: Alabama and A and M.
- 22:49Speaker 9: It's not great.
- 22:52Speaker 12: I don't eighty four Lane cannot he cannot lose that
- 22:58Speaker 12: September nineteenth game in can't lose that game.
- 23:01Speaker 9: Yeah, that's that's the one. Like I wouldn't have thought
- 23:08Speaker 9: a must win game.
- 23:08Speaker 12: What happened three three games into a guy's ten uere
- 23:13Speaker 12: he can't lose that all this game, also losing to
- 23:19Speaker 12: an M four, to losing to A and M M,
- 23:23Speaker 12: Texas in Death Valley and Clemson.
- 23:25Speaker 2: I was just trying to think of the toughestame schedule.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Yeah, worst case scenario to me, after everything you've you've
- 23:37Speaker 3: put into this team. The absolute worst that would be
- 23:43Speaker 3: somewhat okay, would be nine and three and seven and
- 23:47Speaker 3: two in league play. Seven and two in league plays
- 23:51Speaker 3: still gives you a chance, So it gives you an opportunity.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Nobody signed up for eight and four. Nobody that can
- 24:00Speaker 3: here from somewhere else. Are nobody that donated to this
- 24:04Speaker 3: place to be above what they were? And again, and
- 24:09Speaker 3: the article says it, you're playing the who's who, but
- 24:12Speaker 3: nobody cares right, wrong or indifferent nobody cares. So that
- 24:18Speaker 3: might be the worst case scenario, which again you're not
- 24:21Speaker 3: even that you'd have more wins than you had a
- 24:23Speaker 3: year ago. But I don't think anybody here is gonna
- 24:26Speaker 3: be okay with that, and I know they're not going
- 24:27Speaker 3: to be and the coaches aren't going to be okay
- 24:30Speaker 3: with that.
- 24:31Speaker 4: It is going to be.
- 24:34Speaker 3: One of those seasons where nobody cares who you play,
- 24:36Speaker 3: at least I don't think so, like when you look
- 24:39Speaker 3: at their schedule, and again the article points it out,
- 24:41Speaker 3: but people are not going to care. They're gonna know
- 24:43Speaker 3: how much you spend on this roster. They're gonna know
- 24:45Speaker 3: how much you spend on the coaches. They're gonna know
- 24:47Speaker 3: that you blew it up and tried to hit reset,
- 24:49Speaker 3: which you did. They're not gonna care that you have
- 24:52Speaker 3: Clemson coming to town. You go to Oxford, A and
- 24:55Speaker 3: M comes to town, Alabama comes to town. You gotta
- 24:59Speaker 3: go play and jur and here too. That place is
- 25:02Speaker 3: never easy. If they they are, they could be terrible
- 25:05Speaker 3: and it's going to be a very difficult environment. Texas
- 25:08Speaker 3: comes to town, You got to go to Tennessee. Nobody
- 25:11Speaker 3: is going to care, just not going to.
- 25:19Speaker 9: You just got rid of aiding four.
- 25:21Speaker 12: You paid fifty four million dollars to make aid and
- 25:24Speaker 12: four go away. Can't go eaighting four.
- 25:31Speaker 11: But he told y'all like, hey guys, it's gonna take
- 25:35Speaker 11: some time. He got out in front of it.
- 25:37Speaker 4: He did, But that doesn't matter.
- 25:38Speaker 11: No, I actually agree with y'all, but like, no, I agree,
- 25:41Speaker 11: you know that. But yeah, and Lane Kurt Signetti did it.
- 25:48Speaker 2: So you're number one playoffs, you're number two Natty.
- 25:52Speaker 11: At Indiana, and we're giving you all of the resources
- 25:56Speaker 11: that you need to make it happen here.
- 25:58Speaker 3: So I can make the argument that the their bottom
- 26:04Speaker 3: floors ten and two to be Yeah, to feel good.
- 26:07Speaker 10: About it, No, I'm good about it.
- 26:09Speaker 4: So all right, just an interesting article.
- 26:12Speaker 3: And again I think they think a lot of LSU
- 26:14Speaker 3: and that's why they put the best case scenario as
- 26:16Speaker 3: a one lost team that's absolutely in the College Football Playoff.
- 26:19Speaker 3: But it also points out the schedule. Nobody cares about
- 26:21Speaker 3: the schedule. That's just the way it is. That's the
- 26:22Speaker 3: way it's going to be, and that's why we're all excited.
- 26:26Speaker 4: Though.
- 26:27Speaker 3: We're all excited because of that potential and what we
- 26:29Speaker 3: think in the expectation of how it's going to play out.
- 26:32Speaker 4: All right, we will take a break.
- 26:33Speaker 3: Jay Johnson, else you have baseball coach will join us
- 26:36Speaker 3: when we come back here on OTB.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Off the Bench two thousand and seven Champs, Purple and
- 26:47Speaker 1: Gold to the core. This is Off the Bench with
- 26:50Speaker 1: Hester and Flynn, Matt and Rouge's go to for all
- 26:53Speaker 1: things Louisiana sports.
- 26:57Speaker 7: To find that well, we've been.
- 27:01Speaker 4: All right.
- 27:01Speaker 3: Welcome back in OTV here live from the Raising Kanes Studio.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Always enjoy our Thursday catchups with LSU head baseball coach
- 27:08Speaker 3: Jay Johnson, who joins us now.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Coach, We always appreciate the time. Hope you're doing well.
- 27:14Speaker 6: Good. How are you doing this morning?
- 27:15Speaker 3: Doing fantastic. I always look forward to our conversations. Got
- 27:19Speaker 3: a big series this weekend obviously inside of the box,
- 27:22Speaker 3: and I know you're looking forward to that. But kind
- 27:24Speaker 3: of going back over the last couple of games, Coach,
- 27:27Speaker 3: I know was good to get back into the win
- 27:29Speaker 3: column on Tuesday against Northwestern State. You get a victory
- 27:32Speaker 3: there four to two, and probably really enjoyed what you
- 27:35Speaker 3: saw on the mound.
- 27:37Speaker 13: Yeah, I thought it was a very well pitched game.
- 27:39Speaker 13: We use nine pitchers in the game. I thought everybody
- 27:42Speaker 13: did their job and I think much more in line
- 27:46Speaker 13: with what those guys are capable of doing. And good team,
- 27:49Speaker 13: you know, teams first place in the Southern Conference at
- 27:52Speaker 13: this point, and is good. We were able to get
- 27:55Speaker 13: you know, some of our better guys in there, and
- 27:57Speaker 13: they delivered. And if you keep them to two, it's
- 28:00Speaker 13: gonna give you a good chance to win anytime you play.
- 28:03Speaker 4: And coach, obviously we talked about it.
- 28:05Speaker 3: I mean, you know, going back to the weekend in Oxford,
- 28:07Speaker 3: then you played the good but then Cookman toom Cookman
- 28:09Speaker 3: team going back to last Tuesday and just get to
- 28:12Speaker 3: get a win there. But going back, like and looking
- 28:15Speaker 3: at the series on the road in Oxford, right, that
- 28:17Speaker 3: first game is like if a couple of things happen
- 28:19Speaker 3: your way, kind of flip it there, you fight hard
- 28:21Speaker 3: to scratch back and tie the game up. Like when
- 28:24Speaker 3: you have a situation like that, how difficult is it
- 28:28Speaker 3: to try to cut that one game, not allow that
- 28:29Speaker 3: one game to become two games, three games, whatever that
- 28:32Speaker 3: situation might be. Because you know, it's good going into
- 28:35Speaker 3: this series with a victory, But how hard is it
- 28:37Speaker 3: when you have a game like that on Friday, where
- 28:39Speaker 3: you fight hard, you tie it up, and then a
- 28:41Speaker 3: couple of things don't go your way. A ball doesn't
- 28:43Speaker 3: leave the infield right, you're trying to make play after play,
- 28:45Speaker 3: it just doesn't go your way. To try to cut
- 28:48Speaker 3: that and get back to your winning ways, yeah, I.
- 28:51Speaker 13: Think I look at it in a couple different lights,
- 28:55Speaker 13: and specifically in that game. You know, we came out
- 28:58Speaker 13: in the first inning, two veteran players. Chris runs a
- 29:00Speaker 13: good at bat against Hunter, Ellie gets on base, Jake
- 29:03Speaker 13: gets excuse me, it's a home run. We're uphead two
- 29:05Speaker 13: to nothing. And then we had a couple guys on
- 29:08Speaker 13: in that inning, and then we had guys on in
- 29:10Speaker 13: the second inning as well, against a good pitcher like that.
- 29:13Speaker 6: You got to break through and.
- 29:14Speaker 13: Score when you have chances. We had another, you know
- 29:17Speaker 13: situation where we had multiple runners on and you know,
- 29:21Speaker 13: that's Hunter ally, it's a good picture. He's veteran, and
- 29:23Speaker 13: he finds a way to get strikes and outs you
- 29:25Speaker 13: know where he needs to and he did that, and yeah,
- 29:28Speaker 13: we fought back. It is three to three, and you
- 29:30Speaker 13: just you have to handle the ball in the infield,
- 29:32Speaker 13: which is you know, probably one of.
- 29:34Speaker 6: The big flaws.
- 29:34Speaker 13: Not probably is one of the big flaws of our team.
- 29:36Speaker 13: And you're not going to beat a good team on
- 29:38Speaker 13: the road, you know, making mistakes. It'd be like, you know,
- 29:42Speaker 13: fumbling near your own goal line three times, like that's
- 29:45Speaker 13: what the eighth inning was that night, and you're not
- 29:48Speaker 13: not going to overcome that the almost too good a team,
- 29:50Speaker 13: like really good pitching staff. So you know, I mean
- 29:53Speaker 13: that one was pretty self explanatory. And then game two,
- 29:56Speaker 13: I mean it's a bad loss, twelve of the two,
- 29:59Speaker 13: but against Townsend, who is one of the best pitchers
- 30:02Speaker 13: in the league, who score one in the first, and
- 30:04Speaker 13: you know, we left two more guys on in the first,
- 30:06Speaker 13: we scored in the second, left a couple more guys
- 30:09Speaker 13: on in the second. If that game is four to
- 30:11Speaker 13: zero instead of two zero, there's a different dynamic to
- 30:14Speaker 13: how the.
- 30:15Speaker 6: Game is played.
- 30:16Speaker 13: So I think it's just casting into where you know,
- 30:19Speaker 13: we can get our better pitching in the game. And
- 30:23Speaker 13: you know, I didn't see it as much as anything
- 30:25Speaker 13: as one game at a time, like guys are you know,
- 30:28Speaker 13: competing or trying hard.
- 30:30Speaker 6: In some ways, it's just as simple as you can't
- 30:33Speaker 6: make airs in the nfield. You can't walk people and.
- 30:35Speaker 13: Somebody needs to get to out hit at some point,
- 30:37Speaker 13: and like, to me, that's that's how I look at it.
- 30:40Speaker 13: It's not anything other than we need to play or.
- 30:43Speaker 6: Be a better baseball.
- 30:44Speaker 3: Team, right, And coach I, I've known you a long time,
- 30:48Speaker 3: now know you well enough to know, like it is
- 30:49Speaker 3: hard sometimes to find moral victories because like we know
- 30:53Speaker 3: what it is and we know what you expect. But
- 30:56Speaker 3: even on the last game to fight back and you
- 30:58Speaker 3: fall short, we all know that, but still like to
- 31:00Speaker 3: see the fight and try to get back into it.
- 31:03Speaker 3: And then like also to see you know, obviously didn't
- 31:05Speaker 3: go the way that you wanted on the mound to
- 31:07Speaker 3: start the game, but to see Garcia and Sheer and
- 31:10Speaker 3: come in and what they were able to do, you
- 31:12Speaker 3: can probably take some Okay, well I had confidence in
- 31:15Speaker 3: those players already, but it continues to grow.
- 31:18Speaker 13: Yeah, no doubt.
- 31:19Speaker 6: I think you know.
- 31:20Speaker 13: The one thing we can do is we can come
- 31:23Speaker 13: back from a large deficit on a Sunday as you
- 31:25Speaker 13: get to like lower in the other team's pitching staff,
- 31:28Speaker 13: Like we handle that caliber of pitching pretty well, and
- 31:32Speaker 13: they we haven't won as much as we want to.
- 31:35Speaker 13: These guys do still pride in competing in their performance,
- 31:39Speaker 13: and they showed that, and you know, we had to
- 31:42Speaker 13: make some switches to try to get back in the game. Again,
- 31:45Speaker 13: it left us a little vulnerable on defense, and we
- 31:47Speaker 13: didn't make a play in the bottom of the seventh
- 31:50Speaker 13: inning that would have retired the leadoff guy. And then again,
- 31:53Speaker 13: this is.
- 31:54Speaker 6: About putting more pressure on our opponent.
- 31:57Speaker 13: And in that environment, it's a very there's a very
- 31:59Speaker 13: good team. Their crowd was awesome, like it was full.
- 32:03Speaker 13: You know, we allowed them to have the momentum or
- 32:07Speaker 13: play the games.
- 32:07Speaker 6: The way they wanted to.
- 32:08Speaker 13: And even in that, you know, you had two games
- 32:11Speaker 13: that we were winnable with six outs to go, and
- 32:14Speaker 13: so we we just need we need to play better
- 32:16Speaker 13: to be over the hump in those games. You know,
- 32:18Speaker 13: the starting pitching on Friday and Saturday was no fine,
- 32:22Speaker 13: no problem, doing a good job and matching, you know,
- 32:25Speaker 13: two really good pitchers offensively, just taking advantage of the
- 32:29Speaker 13: opportunities that we'd created for ourselves a little better. And
- 32:32Speaker 13: then we have to handle the ball, and you know
- 32:33Speaker 13: it's between you know, some skill stuff and you know
- 32:37Speaker 13: some you know, I.
- 32:38Speaker 6: Guess you would call it injuries.
- 32:40Speaker 13: We're just we're not as good as you know, first base,
- 32:43Speaker 13: second base, and as we need to be, and that
- 32:46Speaker 13: really hurt us. With the amount of really good left
- 32:48Speaker 13: handed hitters that Ole Miss has catching.
- 32:51Speaker 4: Up with LuSE.
- 32:52Speaker 3: You had baseball coach Jay Johnson here on O TV
- 32:54Speaker 3: and coach, I know a lot of people would look
- 32:56Speaker 3: at Texas and M coming to town and oh Man,
- 32:58Speaker 3: number nine team in the country, but knowing you like
- 33:00Speaker 3: I do, that's an opportunity for your baseball team.
- 33:02Speaker 4: It's a great thing about the SEC.
- 33:04Speaker 3: You can have a weekend that you want back, but
- 33:07Speaker 3: the next weekend is going to be another opportunity to
- 33:09Speaker 3: play a great team. And this time, this one's going
- 33:12Speaker 3: to be in the box. I'm sure the crowd is
- 33:14Speaker 3: going to be at capacity. I'm sure it's going to
- 33:16Speaker 3: be turned up to eleven. It just typically is whenever
- 33:19Speaker 3: LSU and Texas A and M get together. So a
- 33:21Speaker 3: great opportunity for your team starting on Friday night.
- 33:25Speaker 6: Yeah, no doubt. And it's good to be home.
- 33:27Speaker 13: Like we've been on a road two weeks in a row,
- 33:28Speaker 13: which you know most teams probably have one of those
- 33:31Speaker 13: throughout the schedule.
- 33:32Speaker 6: But it feels like we haven't played a SEC home
- 33:35Speaker 6: game in a month, and so we're excited to be back.
- 33:39Speaker 13: Crowd is always great here and they're a great team.
- 33:42Speaker 13: You know, I kind of look at it like this
- 33:44Speaker 13: is their time, you know it. It's Grohovac and Surrell.
- 33:47Speaker 13: Those guys have been there for three years. They were
- 33:49Speaker 13: both a little bit beat up last year, which was
- 33:51Speaker 13: part of their struggles. But you know they're going to
- 33:54Speaker 13: be high draft picks. You know, I got one of
- 33:55Speaker 13: the best transfer hitters in kope En, and they got
- 33:59Speaker 13: some good young players that are really talented, and so
- 34:02Speaker 13: it's a good lineup. Pitching wise, they kind of rely
- 34:05Speaker 13: on six guys, so you got to get into that bullpen,
- 34:09Speaker 13: you know, and see if you can have them get
- 34:11Speaker 13: outs with guys they don't necessarily want to get outs with.
- 34:14Speaker 13: But they're they're well coached and playing very confident right now.
- 34:19Speaker 6: So we're gonna have to play our best to win.
- 34:22Speaker 3: And coach obviously you know this is going to be,
- 34:26Speaker 3: you know, one of those deals where you know, until
- 34:28Speaker 3: you get fully healthy. On Friday and Saturday, you knew
- 34:30Speaker 3: he was going to take the bump and trying to
- 34:32Speaker 3: get to game number three.
- 34:34Speaker 4: I know that you said, you know, you.
- 34:36Speaker 3: Cooper could potentially maybe kind of sort of get it
- 34:39Speaker 3: inning over the weekend.
- 34:41Speaker 4: Is that something that's just going to have to be.
- 34:43Speaker 3: Hey, we'll let him throw a bullpen, see how he
- 34:45Speaker 3: feels or kind of where you're at with that right now.
- 34:48Speaker 13: Well, he threw, he threw on Tuesday, He threw a full,
- 34:54Speaker 13: full bullpen, full till one hundred percent. You know, felt
- 34:59Speaker 13: fine yesterday. You know, today's kind of interesting. And then
- 35:02Speaker 13: how he progresses into the weekend, if he's available like
- 35:06Speaker 13: to give us something, We'll put him on the active
- 35:09Speaker 13: roster and I'll put him in the game. And obviously,
- 35:12Speaker 13: any any inning that we can pick up over an
- 35:16Speaker 13: sec weekend or two would be very valuable. And we
- 35:21Speaker 13: like him obviously and believe in him, and you know,
- 35:23Speaker 13: he's got a lot of motivation to get back to
- 35:24Speaker 13: Like pro baseball is not interested in signing six foot
- 35:28Speaker 13: right handers with its arm issues, so he needs to
- 35:31Speaker 13: for you know, if he wants to.
- 35:32Speaker 6: Play pro baseball, he needs to get it back out
- 35:33Speaker 6: there too.
- 35:34Speaker 13: And he's tough and competitive and wants to do it.
- 35:37Speaker 13: So as soon as we can get him going, we're
- 35:39Speaker 13: going to get him going and then we'll probably have
- 35:42Speaker 13: to build it from there. I don't think we're going
- 35:43Speaker 13: back to four or five innings.
- 35:45Speaker 6: Right out of the shoot.
- 35:46Speaker 13: That would be irresponsible and we won't do that. But
- 35:49Speaker 13: could he be a solution, Absolutely, And if you could
- 35:52Speaker 13: start pairing him in there, and you know, Marco's pause
- 35:55Speaker 13: is really coming along, like I think he's our next
- 35:58Speaker 13: really good pitcher here, which is.
- 36:01Speaker 6: Great to see.
- 36:01Speaker 13: You mentioned Devin did a great job. You know, Garcia,
- 36:05Speaker 13: he's got some potential. So and Zach obviously you know
- 36:08Speaker 13: what you're gonna get.
- 36:08Speaker 6: Maybe we can condense what we're asking Kidri to do.
- 36:11Speaker 13: He's a little better in those shorter stints than when
- 36:13Speaker 13: we have to extend him. So I think there's makings
- 36:16Speaker 13: of a good staff where we can collect out and
- 36:19Speaker 13: you know, your bullpen is going to be the number
- 36:21Speaker 13: one factor and if whether you can win close games
- 36:23Speaker 13: or not. So anything we can get back from him
- 36:25Speaker 13: will help us tremendously.
- 36:27Speaker 3: And coach I always, you know, want to mention Zach
- 36:30Speaker 3: and you did there. I mean, what he gives you
- 36:33Speaker 3: I have to imagine as a coach to be able
- 36:35Speaker 3: to the other night he starts, he starts a game,
- 36:37Speaker 3: and then there's been times where he's come in like
- 36:39Speaker 3: the fifth inning and doesn't give the ball to anybody else.
- 36:41Speaker 3: He's closed games, he's done a little bit of everything,
- 36:44Speaker 3: and he's certainly like he has found his mojo back,
- 36:46Speaker 3: and he's kind of pitching to the gap that we've
- 36:48Speaker 3: seen him not only here at LSU, but Wafford as well. Like,
- 36:51Speaker 3: what kind of you know, piece is that to have
- 36:54Speaker 3: for you to know that you can throw Zach in
- 36:56Speaker 3: there in any situation. He's that player that doesn't seem
- 36:58Speaker 3: like if it's a star, if it's a close whatever,
- 37:01Speaker 3: he's the same guy on the mound.
- 37:04Speaker 13: Yeah, he's a stud, just stud human being, stud pitcher,
- 37:07Speaker 13: stud competitor, and I'm proud of him. You know, the
- 37:10Speaker 13: season didn't get off to a good start, but I
- 37:13Speaker 13: give him all the credit for getting himself back on
- 37:15Speaker 13: the rails and and going and that's really helped our
- 37:18Speaker 13: team a lot. And just a guy like we're lucky
- 37:22Speaker 13: to have here. And he's going to figure obviously a
- 37:25Speaker 13: big part into the rest of the season. And obviously
- 37:28Speaker 13: we know what he did last year, and you know,
- 37:31Speaker 13: just we're wanting to get off to a good start
- 37:32Speaker 13: on Tuesday, Like you know, forget all the dat's rankings,
- 37:37Speaker 13: postseason all that, we just we needed to win a game,
- 37:40Speaker 13: you know, like that's it was as simple as that.
- 37:42Speaker 13: And so to be able to roll him out there
- 37:44Speaker 13: for a couple innings and not just get a couple
- 37:46Speaker 13: of pretty good clean innings, but to do it in
- 37:49Speaker 13: a manageable pitch count so he could do whatever we
- 37:51Speaker 13: need him to do tomorrow. You know, he's just reliable
- 37:55Speaker 13: and you know that's that's what I love about him.
- 37:57Speaker 13: And you know, just wish I could coach him forever.
- 38:00Speaker 6: I'll tell you that much.
- 38:01Speaker 3: So, oh, no doubt about that. And coach, I don't
- 38:04Speaker 3: want you to give anything away. You can tell me
- 38:06Speaker 3: go fly a kite if you don't want to answer this.
- 38:07Speaker 3: But when you have a guy like that, like what
- 38:11Speaker 3: is that conversation? Maybe over the weekend, because you know
- 38:13Speaker 3: how valuable he can be in different situations you mentioned
- 38:16Speaker 3: like you need to win, you start that guy, and
- 38:17Speaker 3: so you know you could see him on a weekend
- 38:20Speaker 3: get a spot start there, but being so valuable in
- 38:22Speaker 3: so many different places, Like when does that conversation start
- 38:26Speaker 3: for how you're going to use him or is it
- 38:27Speaker 3: like within the game, Hey, we got to go to
- 38:29Speaker 3: Zach here, like we can't wait, we can't save him,
- 38:31Speaker 3: like we need him right now.
- 38:32Speaker 4: What are those conversations.
- 38:34Speaker 13: Like, Yeah, it depends on the setup for the game,
- 38:37Speaker 13: you know, because obviously I have a lot of confidence
- 38:39Speaker 13: in Devin too. You know, who are they pitching after?
- 38:42Speaker 13: What makes sense? And I just think, you know, he's
- 38:44Speaker 13: pitched so well for the first four week had pitched
- 38:48Speaker 13: so well for the first four weekends of SEC play.
- 38:50Speaker 13: It was like, hey, TI, game on a road, full
- 38:52Speaker 13: house again, really good environment, Like just you know how
- 38:57Speaker 13: he's going to handle it. And I mean, frankly didn't
- 39:00Speaker 13: help him on defense. I mean, we didn't step on
- 39:02Speaker 13: the bag at second base, Like they probably don't even
- 39:04Speaker 13: score on that editing if we just step on the
- 39:05Speaker 13: bag at second base, and even if we don't turn
- 39:07Speaker 13: a double play, get the lead runner and get the
- 39:11Speaker 13: force out right there and we contact. He had a
- 39:15Speaker 13: clean first inning, which was the seventh after case, and
- 39:19Speaker 13: so I just felt like in that series, that was
- 39:23Speaker 13: the time to go to him. The other times, it's
- 39:25Speaker 13: like you got a lead and you get the other
- 39:27Speaker 13: team trying to chase you a little bit. That's kind
- 39:29Speaker 13: of his sweet spot, you know, is when you have
- 39:31Speaker 13: a three or four run lead and you know he
- 39:33Speaker 13: can really take over from there. So I think he
- 39:35Speaker 13: knows that, but you don't want to expand it, you know,
- 39:37Speaker 13: start at him. He doesn't need starting experience. If I
- 39:40Speaker 13: just asked him to do it, he'd be able to
- 39:41Speaker 13: do it. Just sign But it depends on the weekend.
- 39:44Speaker 13: We're kind of finalizing how we're formulating that. But it's like,
- 39:48Speaker 13: if we have a chance to win, there's a good
- 39:49Speaker 13: chance you'll see him in the game.
- 39:50Speaker 4: All right, great answer.
- 39:51Speaker 3: You didn't tell me go flyck height, so I appreciate
- 39:53Speaker 3: you giving me the answer there. I'll just find a
- 39:56Speaker 3: fascinating guy like that. They can do so many different
- 39:58Speaker 3: things for you, and like you said, like the demeanor
- 40:00Speaker 3: is always going to be the same on the mound.
- 40:02Speaker 3: It doesn't matter what level of baseball that it could
- 40:05Speaker 3: be nine to you, twelve U, whatever you college pros.
- 40:08Speaker 3: When you have a guy like that is certainly a
- 40:10Speaker 3: luxury to have coach. We can't thank you enough. We
- 40:12Speaker 3: always look forward to it every single week. The best
- 40:14Speaker 3: of the luck in the box this week and will
- 40:15Speaker 3: certainly be out there rooting the Tiger zone.
- 40:18Speaker 6: All right, see you soon.
- 40:19Speaker 3: Thanks all right, Jay Johnson. Else, you have baseball coach
- 40:21Speaker 3: good enough to join us here. And I always love
- 40:23Speaker 3: coach because, well, he's gonna he's gonna break it down,
- 40:25Speaker 3: he's gonna talk about it. He ain't gonna try to
- 40:28Speaker 3: sugarcoat it, and that's why he's the best in the game.
