- 0:04Speaker 1: Right, Welcome back everyone. I am so excited and happy
- 0:08Speaker 1: because I have an og vander Pump friend with me today.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Hi Tom, Tom.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Shorts, lovely to be here.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I'm so happy you're doing the damn thing. I can't
- 0:19Speaker 1: believe it.
- 0:20Speaker 3: I know it's like some I overthought it. I could
- 0:23Speaker 3: have started my podcast like years ago. I had this
- 0:25Speaker 3: concept and I loved it.
- 0:27Speaker 1: That's that's my first question, because congratulations.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Oh thanks you too.
- 0:31Speaker 1: It's called Detox Retalks Free Talks.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:34Speaker 3: I'm trying to level up spiritually, physically, emotionally.
- 0:37Speaker 1: What made you want to finally do it?
- 0:39Speaker 2: It was for it to be a traveling show.
- 0:41Speaker 3: And I'm like, just making a show, pitching a show
- 0:44Speaker 3: and trying to bring it to fruition. Oh my god,
- 0:47Speaker 3: there's so much red tape. It could take years. And
- 0:49Speaker 3: I'm like, I'll just start a podcast.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Like everyone else.
- 0:52Speaker 1: No, it's hard to do. It's honestly, even though everyone
- 0:56Speaker 1: has one, it's really hard to do.
- 0:58Speaker 3: It's like a meme. It's been memified at this point.
- 1:00Speaker 3: We should start a podcast, Michelle. Yeah, this is our
- 1:02Speaker 3: spinoff podcast.
- 1:03Speaker 1: So you had your first guest, which was Katie.
- 1:06Speaker 2: It was Katie.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I actually want to listen to it because yes, it's
- 1:10Speaker 1: going to be so good.
- 1:11Speaker 3: We did a mindful micro dose. I've done shrooms so
- 1:14Speaker 3: many times, and I've you know, just like eyeball the
- 1:17Speaker 3: micro dose here and there. But you know, it's one
- 1:19Speaker 3: tenth to one twentieth of your usual dose, which I
- 1:22Speaker 3: think is three grams. Okay, I already forget Oh my god,
- 1:25Speaker 3: I got to brush up. But it was fun to
- 1:27Speaker 3: sit down, have a glass of wine and just riff.
- 1:30Speaker 3: You know, we see each other a good amount because
- 1:31Speaker 3: we have shared custody of the dogs, which is.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Rare because so do we I don't know if you
- 1:37Speaker 1: know that. Do you share Malibu? H? How is that
- 1:40Speaker 1: like with you guys? You guys have like a certain
- 1:42Speaker 1: drop off.
- 1:43Speaker 2: This is nice, Michelle, because I feel like I only
- 1:47Speaker 2: we've see each other and we exchanged niceties, and I
- 1:51Speaker 2: feel like the only thing I really know about you
- 1:53Speaker 2: is what I've seen on TV or what I've heard
- 1:55Speaker 2: through the grapevine. Not in a salacious way, but this
- 1:58Speaker 2: is nice to finally sit down and shoot the.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I know anyways, and I probably have seen you for
- 2:03Speaker 1: like what at least five ten years. I don't even
- 2:06Speaker 1: know five years and we always say hi to each other,
- 2:09Speaker 1: and we're really nice to each other, but we never
- 2:11Speaker 1: really like had lunch together, like sat down and talk.
- 2:13Speaker 2: This is nice. Yeah, sorry, I forgot what you asked me.
- 2:17Speaker 1: About the dog situation because I don't know if that
- 2:20Speaker 1: happens often, because we did it because of Isabella. She
- 2:24Speaker 1: loves Malibu and always wants to be with Malibu. Yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 1: so we just made sure like whoever, whoever has Isabella,
- 2:31Speaker 1: then that's where Malibu goes.
- 2:33Speaker 3: I love that and I respect that. I know you're
- 2:35Speaker 3: going through it right now. We're not going to get
- 2:37Speaker 3: into that, but I respect that you guys are cordial
- 2:39Speaker 3: when it comes to your baby and the dog. And
- 2:42Speaker 3: you know, I've seen it go the other way like
- 2:45Speaker 3: vicious custody battles over well kids obviously.
- 2:47Speaker 2: But dogs too.
- 2:49Speaker 3: I didn't know fishous falling out over puppies. I'm keeping
- 2:52Speaker 3: the dog scram.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah I could. I mean, I technically Malibu was mine.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I got her before I got her in twenty fourteen,
- 3:01Speaker 1: before I even knew Jesse. But it just made sense
- 3:05Speaker 1: for Isabella to be with Malibu.
- 3:07Speaker 2: That makes me happy.
- 3:08Speaker 1: So what is it? Is it a fifty to fifty custody.
- 3:11Speaker 3: No, it used to be, and we thought it was
- 3:14Speaker 3: a little much for the dogs every week taking him
- 3:16Speaker 3: back and forth, and I was always pretty much the
- 3:20Speaker 3: primary caretaker.
- 3:21Speaker 2: We both love them equally.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Katie's a great mom, but she decided to be best
- 3:26Speaker 3: and we decided it would be best if they just
- 3:28Speaker 3: stay with me, and then Katie can come see them
- 3:30Speaker 3: whenever she wants, and when I leave town I have
- 3:32Speaker 3: a gig or I want to travel, she'll watch them,
- 3:36Speaker 3: snuggle up with them.
- 3:37Speaker 2: But we have a good thing going.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Yeah, how long has it been since you guys got divorced?
- 3:42Speaker 3: We got divorced in twenty twenty two, February twenty twenty two.
- 3:47Speaker 1: It was a wow. I thought it was longer than that.
- 3:49Speaker 3: No, it was, yeah, No, it's I mean, listen, we're
- 3:53Speaker 3: totally reconciled and we're cool.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Not to rub it in your face.
- 3:55Speaker 1: No, I mean that's the goal. That's always going to
- 3:58Speaker 1: be the goal.
- 3:59Speaker 2: You're going to get there, right.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I don't think it depends on me, but yeah, I hope.
- 4:05Speaker 2: So, but how you hold up?
- 4:09Speaker 1: I'm actually doing okay this the everything is happening all like,
- 4:15Speaker 1: it's all happening right now. It's very interesting the Instagram
- 4:19Speaker 1: messages that get in the DMS, and like, there's a
- 4:23Speaker 1: lot of positive, but there's also a lot of negative,
- 4:26Speaker 1: and some of it is really hurtful or like just
- 4:29Speaker 1: digging into like how I speak or what I look like,
- 4:33Speaker 1: or it's just it's a lot and I never even
- 4:35Speaker 1: like thought of it. I was saying it to Aaron
- 4:37Speaker 1: last night. I was like, wait, do I speak funny?
- 4:40Speaker 1: Because people keep saying that I have this accent and
- 4:43Speaker 1: I'm kind of monotone, and I'm like, that's just how
- 4:46Speaker 1: I speak. I don't know what I'm supposed to do.
- 4:48Speaker 3: I've seen this one on the internet. You're not monotonous.
- 4:52Speaker 3: You have a lovely cadence and inflection in your voice. Yeah,
- 4:56Speaker 3: but also, well you're a veteran now season two but
- 4:59Speaker 3: has by the way, it'll make you neurotic if you
- 5:02Speaker 3: dive too deep into the comments. Are there any recent
- 5:04Speaker 3: ones that really broke you not?
- 5:08Speaker 1: I mean I got a lot about the voice thing,
- 5:10Speaker 1: and I kind of laughed at it and I was
- 5:12Speaker 1: like I was asking him and he's like, yeah, you
- 5:14Speaker 1: have an accent. I'm like, obviously I do. I blame
- 5:18Speaker 1: part of it because my mom is Mexican, my dad's Persian,
- 5:21Speaker 1: and I just heard so many languages, like my grandparents
- 5:25Speaker 1: spoke Turkish to me. Like there was just so much
- 5:27Speaker 1: and I just somehow grew up with this accent.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Your accent's lovely. It's a melting pot of an accent.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Yeah, right, I think so.
- 5:35Speaker 2: I love it.
- 5:36Speaker 1: The dms.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Like do you do you have like a
- 5:41Speaker 3: morbid curiosity?
- 5:43Speaker 2: Do you have to look or do you do you
- 5:45Speaker 2: self censor? Uh?
- 5:47Speaker 1: It depends if I'm really busy and if I have Isabella,
- 5:50Speaker 1: if I'm working, I won't look at any of them.
- 5:52Speaker 1: But there are moments like if I don't have her
- 5:55Speaker 1: on the weekend and I have nothing going on, then
- 5:57Speaker 1: I'll just kind of look quickly show the heck. Yeah.
- 6:01Speaker 1: But it's like there's nothing in the middle. It's just
- 6:04Speaker 1: super like I'm so proud of you, you're amazing, your
- 6:07Speaker 1: story is helping others. And then like the complete opposite,
- 6:11Speaker 1: just like name calling me, just things I've never really
- 6:15Speaker 1: heard about myself. I'm like, wow, some people really hate me.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. It's hard.
- 6:19Speaker 3: There's like they see snippets of your life and they
- 6:22Speaker 3: extrapolate and they sort of reduce you to your worst moment.
- 6:26Speaker 3: But just know, if it's any comfort after being on
- 6:28Speaker 3: TV for like eleven years and being in the bars
- 6:30Speaker 3: every night, people come to me and they're like, we
- 6:34Speaker 3: love you. You know that, right, I talk shit online,
- 6:36Speaker 3: but now that I'm here with you, you're lovely and
- 6:38Speaker 3: I love you and you've brought so much joy into
- 6:41Speaker 3: our life.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Blah blah blah. Just like they're always so nice face
- 6:44Speaker 2: to face, and.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that makes me happy to hear.
- 6:48Speaker 3: I love killing them with kindness, of course. And a
- 6:50Speaker 3: lot of people are just feeling a little adrift at
- 6:52Speaker 3: sea in life. Maybe they're lost, or they're feeling not
- 6:56Speaker 3: especially fulfilled at the moment, and you know, they go
- 6:59Speaker 3: online and you know.
- 7:01Speaker 2: There's few a little hate.
- 7:02Speaker 3: I don't recommend it, but I understand it. And yeah,
- 7:06Speaker 3: if you if you meet that hate with kindness, they're always.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Oh my god, oh my god. I didn't think you'd
- 7:11Speaker 2: see this. I'm so sorry. I love you. I love
- 7:13Speaker 2: the show. You're cool.
- 7:15Speaker 1: So how did you fine dealing? Going back to like
- 7:18Speaker 1: you were on vander Pump for how many years?
- 7:21Speaker 2: We did? We did eleven Lovely Twisted seasons?
- 7:25Speaker 1: Wow, so eleven seasons, and I'm sure you had good
- 7:28Speaker 1: seasons and bad seasons. How did you navigate when you
- 7:32Speaker 1: had a bad season? Like, what did you do?
- 7:36Speaker 2: I mean, listen, I back in the day.
- 7:41Speaker 3: I'm not proud to say it, but I think I
- 7:43Speaker 3: leaned into my vices.
- 7:45Speaker 2: You know, I sipped the scissor.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Not like in a problematic way, but that and I
- 7:52Speaker 3: would make sure to go reconnect with my friends outside
- 7:55Speaker 3: of the show and my family because I always have.
- 7:58Speaker 3: I've always had a really good support system. I'm lucky
- 8:00Speaker 3: to have great parents, great friends, so they would always
- 8:03Speaker 3: give me a reality check, you know what I mean.
- 8:06Speaker 3: But uh, I think I've gotten a lot better at
- 8:08Speaker 3: taking criticism. Listen, as long as you're funny, you're gonna
- 8:12Speaker 3: be mean, be funny. I like being roasted.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:15Speaker 3: You know one thing that like I don't love is
- 8:18Speaker 3: watching myself on TV.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I don't either.
- 8:21Speaker 3: I used to love myself till I started watching myself
- 8:23Speaker 3: on TV. Really, I mean, I still love myself. Tom,
- 8:26Speaker 3: I love you, but I just I'm like, I look gangly.
- 8:30Speaker 3: I'm not smooth.
- 8:31Speaker 2: In my mind.
- 8:32Speaker 3: I'm a little smoother than I am on TV and
- 8:34Speaker 3: a little funnier and a little better looking. I see
- 8:37Speaker 3: myself and I'm like, oh, god man, you're goon, gangly goon.
- 8:41Speaker 1: We're all hard on ourselves. I mean I say the
- 8:43Speaker 1: same thing when I look at myself, I'm like, is
- 8:46Speaker 1: that what it's like? Or is that why am I
- 8:49Speaker 1: doing that in that moment? Like that's so weird.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I know it's hard. It's hard. I don't think.
- 8:56Speaker 3: I like, I just recently watched my wedding, like two
- 9:00Speaker 3: years ago or something. I never watched it, but I
- 9:04Speaker 3: would always just kind of fast forward through my parts.
- 9:07Speaker 3: And I'm not even trying to be mister humble over here,
- 9:10Speaker 3: but I just don't like watching myself.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Wait, I want to go back to you watching your wedding.
- 9:14Speaker 1: How did that make you feel?
- 9:15Speaker 3: I mean it was like, I know, spoiler alert, it
- 9:19Speaker 3: doesn't work out in the end, we got divorced. But
- 9:21Speaker 3: it's probably my favorite moment ever on the show, just
- 9:25Speaker 3: because we had such a great group of people. It
- 9:27Speaker 3: was a destination wedding up in Gregel. It's like beautiful
- 9:32Speaker 3: Northwest California.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Up by Tahoe. Have you been up by Tahoe?
- 9:35Speaker 1: I haven't, but I saw the pictures and everything Katie
- 9:39Speaker 1: looked gorgeous, and the whole venue looked amazing.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you. It was. Yeah, it was beautiful. It
- 9:46Speaker 2: was magical. I had so many great people there.
- 9:48Speaker 3: And yeah, then, but I don't want to I don't
- 9:52Speaker 3: want to sound weird romanticizing my wedding. But it was awesome.
- 9:54Speaker 3: I think even Katie would say the same thing. Our
- 9:56Speaker 3: wedding was so fun.
- 9:58Speaker 1: I think that's positive. I think that's good.
- 10:00Speaker 2: It was and then we went home. We kicked it
- 10:02Speaker 2: for a few days, and then we were just off
- 10:03Speaker 2: to Bora Bora.
- 10:04Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, but yeah, you're also in like
- 10:07Speaker 1: your twenties.
- 10:08Speaker 2: I was, well, I was pushing thirty in the forty.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Two, okay, kind of old.
- 10:14Speaker 2: No, you're not.
- 10:15Speaker 3: I feel really good though. I feel like I'm in
- 10:18Speaker 3: close to being in the best shape of my life.
- 10:20Speaker 3: I might not look it, but I feel it.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:23Speaker 2: I think I just feel good right now. I feel
- 10:26Speaker 2: kind of confident.
- 10:27Speaker 1: I actually feel the same way about myself. I'm like,
- 10:29Speaker 1: I'm thirty six, I have a five year old, and
- 10:32Speaker 1: I feel better than ever.
- 10:33Speaker 2: You're glowing right now. You gotta aura going, Michelle. Yeah,
- 10:36Speaker 2: I'm happy to see you happy right now, because I
- 10:38Speaker 2: know you're going through it.
- 10:39Speaker 1: And I am, but I have I'm in a great relationship. Yes,
- 10:43Speaker 1: really really yeah.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Yeah, shout out to Aaron. I haven't really got to
- 10:46Speaker 3: bond or connect with Aaron, but he seems lovely. Yeah,
- 10:49Speaker 3: he's got to kill a wat smile and he's always Yeah.
- 10:51Speaker 1: He's a really good, easy going I feel like you
- 10:53Speaker 1: guys would get along really well because you both are
- 10:56Speaker 1: easy and fun.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm easy like a Sunday morning. I am pretty,
- 11:01Speaker 3: I'm pretty chill.
- 11:02Speaker 1: So you were dating somebody, but you guys broke up.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Well, yeah, we were never formally dating. But no, she's amazing,
- 11:10Speaker 3: one of the great loves of my life. Honestly, we're
- 11:13Speaker 3: still really good friends. But we were never really formally dating.
- 11:16Speaker 3: And you, guys, it's not a commitment thing.
- 11:18Speaker 2: It's about respecting someone's boundaries. And but yeah, I guess.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Technically, I mean, honestly, I prefer not. I kind of
- 11:27Speaker 3: want to respect her privacy. Even though we didn't say
- 11:29Speaker 3: her name. She's a very private person, so I don't
- 11:31Speaker 3: want to like violate her to see otherwise I'd love
- 11:34Speaker 3: to talk about it.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Are you dating now?
- 11:38Speaker 2: No, I'm not.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Do you want to technically I'm single, but I'm not
- 11:42Speaker 3: advertising in and I'm not pursuing that.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Okay, so I'm just laying low. I'm falling in love
- 11:48Speaker 2: with myself all over again.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I love that. I think that everybody should before getting
- 11:54Speaker 1: into a relationship.
- 11:55Speaker 2: We're so hard on ourselves.
- 11:57Speaker 3: I think back to the past, like eleven years, I
- 12:00Speaker 3: was really really hard on myself. Maybe at times not
- 12:03Speaker 3: hard enough, and some of my sloppy eras, Yeah, I
- 12:07Speaker 3: had some sloppy eras, but yeah.
- 12:09Speaker 2: I think me and myself we got a good thing
- 12:12Speaker 2: going now.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I feel like I matured at a very young age.
- 12:16Speaker 1: And then you know, obviously I filed for divorce and
- 12:20Speaker 1: I immediately kind of started dating because I had felt
- 12:23Speaker 1: even though I was married, I had felt alone for
- 12:27Speaker 1: so long that like I was ready to be with somebody,
- 12:30Speaker 1: Like I didn't want to date, I didn't want to
- 12:32Speaker 1: be single, like I wanted to be in a happy
- 12:35Speaker 1: relationship with somebody.
- 12:37Speaker 2: I totally get that. I'm a serial monogamist.
- 12:40Speaker 3: I love I love love even when I'm not looking
- 12:44Speaker 3: for it, it finds me. I love, I still love you,
- 12:49Speaker 3: but I just I'm not codependent at all. I'm very
- 12:51Speaker 3: happy being on my own, but I prefer to be
- 12:54Speaker 3: in relationships great at dating. And I know it's like
- 12:58Speaker 3: sometimes people see it from outside and it looks kind
- 13:01Speaker 3: of jarring when you get out of a marriage or
- 13:03Speaker 3: something and you start dating immediately again, which Katie did,
- 13:06Speaker 3: And I mean it hurt my feelings a little bit,
- 13:08Speaker 3: but I totally understood it because it's not like it's
- 13:12Speaker 3: not like an abrupt breakup. There's maybe a year or
- 13:15Speaker 3: years that lead up to that moment, that decision, and
- 13:17Speaker 3: it's not an easy one. So you know, I guess
- 13:20Speaker 3: from the outside looking game, when you see someone fresh
- 13:23Speaker 3: out of a divorce's dating again, it looks like, wow,
- 13:26Speaker 3: they moved on quick.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Yeah, because I get criticized for that often.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I've seen some of that.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's not the case. It's just like it
- 13:34Speaker 1: had been so long that I missed a lot of
- 13:37Speaker 1: things in a relationship that I'm like, that's what I want,
- 13:40Speaker 1: and I just happened to meet such a great or no,
- 13:43Speaker 1: such a great person and it just worked.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Does he do the podcast with you?
- 13:46Speaker 1: We've done a couple Yeah.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Yeah, how because it's weird. You guys clearly have great
- 13:51Speaker 3: chemistry and you dig each other. I saw you on
- 13:53Speaker 3: vacation and why looks so fun? I love Hawaii. We
- 13:55Speaker 3: could do a whole episode about Hawaii.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Oh, let's go back. I can't wait.
- 14:00Speaker 2: But sometimes you might have the most natural, charismatic, effortless
- 14:06Speaker 2: energy with someone, but you get into a room with
- 14:08Speaker 2: a mic and cameras, it's like, hey, you look nice today.
- 14:12Speaker 1: So that was him the first like five minutes, because
- 14:15Speaker 1: he had never done a podcast ever, and I had
- 14:17Speaker 1: only done a few, so it was like brand new
- 14:19Speaker 1: to us. And I looked at him, I'm like, just
- 14:22Speaker 1: be yourself, that's.
- 14:23Speaker 2: All you have to do.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean podcasts one because I like to just
- 14:27Speaker 3: like overthink it and I want to add all these
- 14:29Speaker 3: crazy like sound effects and stuff like that. They're like,
- 14:32Speaker 3: people just want to hear you riff in a room,
- 14:34Speaker 3: like they want to be a fly on the wall
- 14:36Speaker 3: and just hear you shooting the shit.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Yeah, we're shooting the shit right now.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I'm still getting used to it, but absolutely.
- 14:43Speaker 2: But yeah, how was your trip to Hawaii?
- 14:46Speaker 1: It was good. He actually has a best friend that
- 14:48Speaker 1: he grew up that lives over there, so we got
- 14:50Speaker 1: to spend some time with him and his fiance and
- 14:53Speaker 1: then we stayed at a hotel, and so it was
- 14:55Speaker 1: kind of like the best of both worlds, Like we
- 14:58Speaker 1: got to be with a local and go to the
- 15:00Speaker 1: local restaurants and places that normally, like the tourists wouldn't
- 15:04Speaker 1: go to. And then we got to do like vacation hotel,
- 15:07Speaker 1: you know, poolside.
- 15:08Speaker 2: What island did you stay on?
- 15:11Speaker 1: We went to a Wahoo at Turtle Bay.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Oh, Turtle Bay is the best, forget about it. I've
- 15:16Speaker 3: never stayed there. The last time I went, we were
- 15:19Speaker 3: thinking about going last second and I think it was
- 15:22Speaker 3: booked out.
- 15:22Speaker 2: So we ended up going.
- 15:23Speaker 3: To the south west part of Wahu. We stayed at
- 15:27Speaker 3: the Four Seasons, not to flex on you guys, and.
- 15:29Speaker 1: It was it looks amazing. I want to go there
- 15:31Speaker 1: next fabulous.
- 15:32Speaker 3: And when I have kids, I want to go to
- 15:34Speaker 3: the Disney resort. You should take Isabella next time you
- 15:37Speaker 3: go to Hawaii. Yeah, take her to the resort next
- 15:40Speaker 3: to the Four Seasons. It's a Disney resort. If I
- 15:42Speaker 3: was a kid, I'm an adult and I want to
- 15:44Speaker 3: go there.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Even at the Four Seasons, I'm looking over like, whoa,
- 15:47Speaker 2: they look like they're having fun over there.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Oh, I want to do that so gorgeous.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Google it. After this, you got to take Isabella.
- 15:53Speaker 1: It worked out perfectly. I had I haven't taken a
- 15:55Speaker 1: vacation in years, and I had Isabella for her birthday
- 15:59Speaker 1: this year. And then Jesse said, my parents want to
- 16:03Speaker 1: come from Boston. They rarely come, so they want to
- 16:06Speaker 1: spend you know, six days with Isabella. Can I keep
- 16:08Speaker 1: her for six days and then you can keep her
- 16:10Speaker 1: the following six days? And I said sure. And as
- 16:13Speaker 1: soon as I told Aaron, he was like, oh my god,
- 16:15Speaker 1: you have six days. He's like, let's book a trip.
- 16:17Speaker 2: To Hawaii six days. As a mom, that's a big deal.
- 16:21Speaker 1: It really was. I couldn't believe it. I'm like, what
- 16:23Speaker 1: am I. I was like, Okay, let's do it. And
- 16:25Speaker 1: he just booked it and we went. After Disneyland, I
- 16:27Speaker 1: took her to Disneyland on her birthday, we went to
- 16:30Speaker 1: Oahu and that was like our first real trip together.
- 16:34Speaker 3: I love getting off but it's so sweet. I love
- 16:37Speaker 3: getting off the plane in Hawaii. You guys, if you
- 16:38Speaker 3: haven't been, because it smells so sweet. It smells like
- 16:42Speaker 3: I forget the name of the flower. The perfume but
- 16:45Speaker 3: has a very distinct like semi sweet smell and it's
- 16:49Speaker 3: usually slightly muggyones.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Maybe that's it.
- 16:53Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Oh, it smells so good and I just love the culture.
- 16:56Speaker 3: I love Hawaii. Did you go to the North Shore?
- 16:59Speaker 1: I don't want to everybody, Okay, I think so. I
- 17:03Speaker 1: have a million questions.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Let's go down the list.
- 17:06Speaker 1: When you're not on camera or you know, you were
- 17:09Speaker 1: running a bar for a very long time. Who is
- 17:12Speaker 1: Tom Schwartz?
- 17:13Speaker 2: Like?
- 17:14Speaker 1: Who are you?
- 17:15Speaker 2: Tom Schwartz is.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Straight out of the Midwest, want to raise in Minnesota,
- 17:22Speaker 3: the land of ten Thousand Lakes. Had a great upbringing
- 17:25Speaker 3: with well balanced, happy parents. Super lucky, I know, not
- 17:29Speaker 3: rubbing it in guys. And I've had a really lovely life.
- 17:35Speaker 3: I think up until Schwartz and Sandy's, which was like
- 17:38Speaker 3: my first real, real like hard life lesson life challenge,
- 17:44Speaker 3: it almost broke me, like spiritually, mentally, I almost went
- 17:48Speaker 3: broke financially, like I lost so much money. But I
- 17:53Speaker 3: think I think I needed it in a twisted way.
- 17:57Speaker 3: I think it made me into the person I am now.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Just feel like I have so much more.
- 18:02Speaker 1: I mean, you definitely have to grow as a person
- 18:05Speaker 1: when you go through something so tragic or difficult in life.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I put everything I had into that place,
- 18:11Speaker 3: my whole heart and soul and bankroll into that place,
- 18:14Speaker 3: and then it just slowly sunk.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Like the Titanic. The music was still playing. But uh,
- 18:22Speaker 2: I think I still have more good memories than bad.
- 18:26Speaker 2: That's revisionist history, maybe it is. Did you ever come
- 18:30Speaker 2: to Shorts and Sandys? I did?
- 18:32Speaker 1: At the end, Aaron and I went with Brittany. I
- 18:35Speaker 1: guess you guys were airing a Vanderpump episode and we
- 18:39Speaker 1: went and supported and I actually had a great time.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Thank you, Michelle. It was such an underrated spot. I
- 18:45Speaker 3: can say that objectively. I know I'm close to it,
- 18:47Speaker 3: but like, objectively it was such a cool spot, Like
- 18:50Speaker 3: you could tell it was inspired. And sometimes people would
- 18:52Speaker 3: look at the pictures online of the decor and like,
- 18:54Speaker 3: it doesn't.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Look great in the day, but at night, that's when
- 18:57Speaker 2: it really shined.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Yeah, and it was a good size. I loved everything
- 19:00Speaker 1: about it.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Just very expensive.
- 19:03Speaker 1: I mean, it's really hard to open up a restaurant
- 19:06Speaker 1: or bar. What would you recommend to anybody?
- 19:10Speaker 2: Don't do it. Don't open a bar in California if
- 19:13Speaker 2: you're going to do it.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Make sure you're properly rolled financially, or maybe you have backers,
- 19:19Speaker 3: and just find a really good deal on your lease.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Honestly own the I know this is not realistic for everyone,
- 19:27Speaker 3: but if you can own your property and lease it
- 19:29Speaker 3: out to yourself, that's the dream. You own the building,
- 19:32Speaker 3: lease it to yourself. And you guys, don't pull love
- 19:37Speaker 3: of God, don't put your name on the side unless
- 19:40Speaker 3: you want to be there your every waking moment.
- 19:43Speaker 2: And you know some people like like Craigs. You have
- 19:45Speaker 2: you ever been to Craigs?
- 19:46Speaker 3: Yes, I love Craigs, And Craig's always in there, and
- 19:48Speaker 3: he's such a great host. Like it's not the same
- 19:50Speaker 3: when he's not even there, but like, that's his baby.
- 19:53Speaker 3: I think he has other restaurants too. I know he's
- 19:56Speaker 3: got all kinds of businesses, but that's his baby. He's
- 19:58Speaker 3: always there. I don't want to be that. I don't
- 20:01Speaker 3: want to eat, sleep, breathe a bar our restaurant ever again,
- 20:04Speaker 3: like I did before, and I wasn't even running it,
- 20:06Speaker 3: I wasn't managing it.
- 20:07Speaker 2: I was just a host and an investor.
- 20:09Speaker 1: But do you think that's what it came down to?
- 20:12Speaker 2: There?
- 20:13Speaker 3: Were so many things that went wrong along the way.
- 20:15Speaker 3: It was a comedy of errors. A lot of good
- 20:17Speaker 3: things happened too, but yeah, I just I don't know.
- 20:22Speaker 3: I don't know what happened.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Maybe it was timing.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Maybe no, I know what happened.
- 20:27Speaker 3: It was Yeah, it was a comedy of airs, and
- 20:31Speaker 3: we learned some very expensive lessons in life, time and money.
- 20:35Speaker 2: You know.
- 20:35Speaker 3: When we first started it, I was like, I had
- 20:38Speaker 3: a nice bankroll, I did a cash out REFI I
- 20:41Speaker 3: got us like sub three percent. I felt like I
- 20:43Speaker 3: was rolling in dough. And all of a sudden, it
- 20:45Speaker 3: was just like we were running out of money and
- 20:48Speaker 3: time and it was scary, you know, when your name's
- 20:51Speaker 3: on that lease and there's no easy way out of it.
- 20:55Speaker 2: You guys, I don't want this to be a sad song.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Would you do it again?
- 20:59Speaker 2: Okay, here's the thing. If someone would would have me
- 21:01Speaker 2: on as like, uh, well, I don't I don't know
- 21:05Speaker 2: enough about the business, even though I worked in it
- 21:07Speaker 2: my whole life to be a consultant, you know what
- 21:09Speaker 2: I mean. I've never ran a restaurant, but.
- 21:12Speaker 3: I would love to help with like the early stages
- 21:16Speaker 3: the design process. I've curated a few cocktail men news.
- 21:19Speaker 2: I love doing that. We made good cocktails.
- 21:21Speaker 3: I know I get a bad rap because everyone saw
- 21:23Speaker 3: me have a meltdown my first night at Pump.
- 21:25Speaker 2: I don't know if you ever watched VPR, but I
- 21:27Speaker 2: was having it. Please tell me I'm fortunate. Do you
- 21:31Speaker 2: get anxiety at all?
- 21:32Speaker 1: Now? I do, yes, I know the feeling very well.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Okay, I totally get that show inducing our job induced anxiety.
- 21:42Speaker 3: I don't really I'm fortunate enough to not really get
- 21:44Speaker 3: it anymore. I don't want to jinx myself.
- 21:46Speaker 2: But back in the day, I would get bouts, like
- 21:48Speaker 2: maybe twice a year.
- 21:49Speaker 3: I would have a like a panic attack, and I
- 21:51Speaker 3: had one when I was at Pump and I was
- 21:53Speaker 3: also coming to the realization that I did not want
- 21:55Speaker 3: to work there, and it was opening night and I
- 21:58Speaker 3: think people rushed in. I didn't know how to ring
- 22:00Speaker 3: things in and I had a meltdown and I just
- 22:02Speaker 3: like I remember the manager was like, dude, you can't
- 22:07Speaker 3: leave us right now, and I totally understood that, but
- 22:09Speaker 3: I was like, I need ten minutes, and he goes,
- 22:11Speaker 3: bro if you leave, don't come back, and I just
- 22:13Speaker 3: never went back.
- 22:14Speaker 2: And I feel I stand by that decision. Really, I
- 22:17Speaker 2: felt so good. I went into the garage that's down
- 22:19Speaker 2: on melrose By.
- 22:20Speaker 1: So you didn't make any cocktails?
- 22:22Speaker 3: No, I mean I no, no I did, But I
- 22:24Speaker 3: went down in that garage and I just like screamed.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Yes.
- 22:27Speaker 2: I felt so good. Remember that scene in Jerem Maguire
- 22:30Speaker 2: when he's in his car and free.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I love that scene.
- 22:33Speaker 2: I love Jerrem Maguire.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I recently saw it with Aaron. I've never seen
- 22:37Speaker 1: like old or nineties movies, and so that's kind of
- 22:41Speaker 1: our new thing.
- 22:42Speaker 2: That's so fun. I love that your game to go
- 22:44Speaker 2: back and watch them.
- 22:45Speaker 1: I really liked what's.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Your favorite one? Just off the top of your head.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Oh, we just watched one. What is Demi Moore? What
- 22:51Speaker 1: was that called? Ghost? I had never seen ghosts before.
- 22:54Speaker 1: I cried, And I love that theme song so much.
- 22:58Speaker 2: I'm this makes me so happy for you. You just experienced
- 23:03Speaker 2: ghosts for the first time.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Yeah, so now I listen to the theme song while
- 23:06Speaker 1: I'm driving.
- 23:08Speaker 2: That's amazing. Yeah. Have you seen like classics like Back
- 23:11Speaker 2: to the Future Jurassic Park.
- 23:13Speaker 1: I have, but it's been so long I would I
- 23:16Speaker 1: feel like if I watched it again, it would be
- 23:17Speaker 1: like seeing it for the first time.
- 23:20Speaker 2: I feel like I need to have at least one
- 23:22Speaker 2: recommend me.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Yeah, please send me a list. Oh I haven't seen
- 23:26Speaker 1: that one.
- 23:26Speaker 3: It's a classic. You gotta watch Trainspotting later. Okay, anyways,
- 23:30Speaker 3: you guys, stick with us. I'm talking about movies.
- 23:33Speaker 1: I will. What's something creative you've always wanted to try
- 23:41Speaker 1: but you haven't yet?
- 23:43Speaker 3: WHOA, Well, I've kind of tried it. I dabble, but like,
- 23:48Speaker 3: there's part of.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Me I don't know if I've ever said this publicly
- 23:51Speaker 2: that wants to be an artist? Will I ever pursue
- 23:53Speaker 2: painting as a career? Do I have any talent? Not really?
- 23:57Speaker 3: But you know what the definition of of an artist is. Hey, hey,
- 24:02Speaker 3: I could do that. Yeah, but you didn't. Like it's
- 24:04Speaker 3: just you got to start. And I love painting.
- 24:07Speaker 2: You guys kind of like show me the receipts.
- 24:09Speaker 1: You should come pay with Isabella and I. That's all
- 24:11Speaker 1: she wants to do.
- 24:12Speaker 2: You should have done a sip and paint for this episode.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Oh my god, can do that my podcast?
- 24:16Speaker 1: Okay? Oh yeah, let's do that.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I've always wanted My mom used to be a classical
- 24:24Speaker 1: pianist and she did it for like twenty years, and
- 24:27Speaker 1: I've always wanted to do that. I tried a little
- 24:30Speaker 1: bit during COVID, but I had Isabella. I was like,
- 24:34Speaker 1: you know, new mom, I couldn't do it. But that's
- 24:36Speaker 1: always been like I want to go to a room
- 24:38Speaker 1: and there's a piano and just like play an amazing song.
- 24:41Speaker 3: It's so suave to me when like someone, when you
- 24:44Speaker 3: meet someone you don't know that they're musically inclined, and
- 24:46Speaker 3: they see a piano, a grand a beautiful grand piano,
- 24:49Speaker 3: they sit down and just start tickling the ivory.
- 24:51Speaker 2: I'm like, it's kind of like, I don't know if
- 24:54Speaker 2: sexy is the word.
- 24:54Speaker 3: It's very impressive to me. It's kind of like James
- 24:57Speaker 3: Bond esque. I don't know, Yeah, it's very charming. I'm
- 25:00Speaker 3: not musically inclined, but I I did. During the pandemic.
- 25:04Speaker 3: I became a DJ, a bedroom DJ, and I love DJing,
- 25:08Speaker 3: but like, I just are you good at it?
- 25:10Speaker 2: I'm okay.
- 25:11Speaker 3: I was getting to the point where I actually was
- 25:13Speaker 3: like confident enough to DJ at Tom tom My DJ
- 25:16Speaker 3: name was DJ. I'm sorry because I apologize in advance
- 25:20Speaker 3: for my transitions at least no. I mean, I still
- 25:24Speaker 3: like it. I have, I have like three decks, but
- 25:26Speaker 3: I just I don't know. I see, I see my
- 25:29Speaker 3: boys out there and they're crushing and they make a
- 25:31Speaker 3: lot of money.
- 25:31Speaker 2: But like you guys are gone every weekend.
- 25:34Speaker 1: I don't want to be a DJ. I mean, you're
- 25:36Speaker 1: up all night, aren't you?
- 25:37Speaker 2: All night? Like dude, you're something. A lot of times
- 25:39Speaker 2: your set doesn't start till one or two am. Like,
- 25:42Speaker 2: I think I would be a great daytime pool DJ.
- 25:46Speaker 2: You know, I got the eyser on.
- 25:48Speaker 3: The sunglasses, playing a little like little like little nineties
- 25:51Speaker 3: hip hop, little yacht rock, some soul, you know, or
- 25:56Speaker 3: like I actually like. I like like, I like houseb
- 26:00Speaker 3: I like jungle.
- 26:01Speaker 2: I love music, I digress. I love you.
- 26:05Speaker 1: I do know some people don't.
- 26:07Speaker 3: It's so funny you say that, because I know it
- 26:08Speaker 3: sounds like the most stock statement ever. Everyone not everyone
- 26:12Speaker 3: loves music. I don't want to name names. I can
- 26:15Speaker 3: think of a few people.
- 26:16Speaker 1: I can too.
- 26:17Speaker 2: I don't really like music.
- 26:18Speaker 1: What or when they're in the car and it's just silent,
- 26:21Speaker 1: I'm like, how do you not turn on music?
- 26:23Speaker 2: The only time I know? I'm down?
- 26:25Speaker 3: Bad when I drive like an hour in traffic and
- 26:27Speaker 3: I have no music on, I'm just in here stressing.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Have you been there?
- 26:31Speaker 1: I can't do that. I have to listen to music.
- 26:33Speaker 2: It's not all times I don't.
- 26:35Speaker 3: I don't realize it's to the end of the trip
- 26:37Speaker 3: and I'm like, dude, i just drove an hour and
- 26:39Speaker 3: I've been in here, and I'll put on some music immediately.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Like on the way here, I was jamming out because
- 26:43Speaker 3: I'm in a really good mood today and I've got
- 26:45Speaker 3: everything done I need to get done, and I have
- 26:47Speaker 3: no obligations.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Tonight.
- 26:49Speaker 3: I can go to bed at five six pm, go
- 26:51Speaker 3: to the movies, go to Tom Tom.
- 26:53Speaker 1: You're like me. I had Isabella for the past week
- 26:57Speaker 1: because Jesse was in New York, and I'm like, oh,
- 26:59Speaker 1: I just dropped her off at school and i have
- 27:01Speaker 1: the weekend to myself, so I'm super excited. I'm going
- 27:03Speaker 1: out with Brittany tonight.
- 27:10Speaker 2: I don't like.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Another reason I've been doing my podcast is i felt
- 27:15Speaker 3: myself turning into a bit of a hermit. I'm like,
- 27:17Speaker 3: I don't like talking anymore. I was like, I don't
- 27:18Speaker 3: want to be that guy. I'm too young to be
- 27:20Speaker 3: a hermit. And also it's like it's good training for
- 27:25Speaker 3: my brain. I just I don't This is a weird
- 27:28Speaker 3: thing to try to express. I don't have access to
- 27:30Speaker 3: all of my memories and all of my brain power
- 27:33Speaker 3: on a regular basis. I'm always so impressed with people
- 27:35Speaker 3: who do shows and podcasts and can recall stories from
- 27:38Speaker 3: their childhood or like just like talk about a moment
- 27:43Speaker 3: and just paint the picture vividly.
- 27:45Speaker 2: I can do that.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Occasionally, but sometimes my mind just goes blank and I'm like,
- 27:50Speaker 3: I completely blank out.
- 27:51Speaker 2: It could last hours or a whole day.
- 27:53Speaker 1: And I actually have a bad memory. Sometimes I have
- 27:56Speaker 1: to think about it, and it's kind of surprising. I'm like,
- 27:59Speaker 1: why don't I remember that that happened ten years ago?
- 28:02Speaker 1: Exactly what happened?
- 28:03Speaker 2: Is it? Do you think it's genetic?
- 28:06Speaker 1: No, because my mom had a really good memory.
- 28:08Speaker 2: I think I did a lot of ecstasy when I
- 28:11Speaker 2: was young. I ks to love ecstasy.
- 28:15Speaker 1: So do you see I'm going to change this topic.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Do you see yourself? Like, what do you see yourself
- 28:21Speaker 1: doing in a year? Or do you know do you
- 28:23Speaker 1: want to get married again?
- 28:24Speaker 3: Oh my god, I was about to walk out. I
- 28:26Speaker 3: thought you were going to hit me with a where
- 28:27Speaker 3: do you see yourself in five years? No, Mike, try, No,
- 28:32Speaker 3: that's a good question.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Do you think you'll ever get married? Do you want
- 28:36Speaker 1: to love? I know you love love.
- 28:41Speaker 3: I love I loved getting married, And I'm a huge
- 28:44Speaker 3: advocate for marriage, and I'm a huge advocate for divorce.
- 28:49Speaker 2: I really am. I now I know it's so am.
- 28:51Speaker 3: I yeah, I just because I've I've bared witness to
- 28:54Speaker 3: so many unhappy relationships that lasted way longer than they
- 28:59Speaker 3: should have and they become toxic, combative, contentious, whatever, And
- 29:03Speaker 3: I'm just like you guys, just get divorced. I don't
- 29:06Speaker 3: think it's a sad thing. We get divorce parties in
- 29:08Speaker 3: Tom Tom all the time. But yes, I think I
- 29:11Speaker 3: have one more marriage in me, and if that doesn't
- 29:14Speaker 3: work out, then I'll just you know what I.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Think I'm gonna. I want to maybe like propose and
- 29:20Speaker 2: stay in the fiance. Remember being a fiance? Yeah?
- 29:23Speaker 1: I like that stage.
- 29:24Speaker 2: It's so sexy.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Yeah, You're like, this is my fiance and you introduce
- 29:28Speaker 3: your partner like that feels.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Cool, I agree, better than being called a girlfriend. Yeah,
- 29:35Speaker 1: you make it seem like your divorce is really easy.
- 29:37Speaker 2: With Katie, it was really sad.
- 29:39Speaker 3: I don't want to I don't wanna like minimize that.
- 29:42Speaker 3: It was really sad because we still love I mean,
- 29:45Speaker 3: we still have a certain type of love for each other,
- 29:47Speaker 3: you know what I mean, we respect each other. But
- 29:50Speaker 3: it was really really sad. We had our dream house
- 29:53Speaker 3: sub three percent. You know things, you're an agent, you
- 29:57Speaker 3: know how it is a man and just I was
- 30:00Speaker 3: just like it was in perfect location. I was so happy.
- 30:03Speaker 3: But you know, our relationship had become kind of stale.
- 30:07Speaker 3: We didn't have a big.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Fight or a blow up or or an affair, and
- 30:11Speaker 2: it just kind of fizzled out.
- 30:13Speaker 3: And yeah, it was sad, but no, but in terms
- 30:16Speaker 3: of like, you know, we got a mediator. I think
- 30:18Speaker 3: it was a thousand bucks and then we were good.
- 30:21Speaker 1: That's amazing. Sorry, no, that's okay.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know where you guys are right now.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Yeah, we had a mediator that was pointless for us.
- 30:29Speaker 1: There was no agreements on anything, and it was just
- 30:32Speaker 1: a waste of time and I was trying my best.
- 30:34Speaker 1: So finally I hired a lawyer and we're still in
- 30:37Speaker 1: that process. I'm sorry, it's okay. It seems like maybe
- 30:41Speaker 1: it's going to happen in the next few months if
- 30:45Speaker 1: he continues moving forward. So we'll see, but I think
- 30:49Speaker 1: actually there is now a possibility that it can happen.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:53Speaker 3: I don't want to cross any boundaries, but it seems
- 30:56Speaker 3: from his end that things aren't going in the right direction.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Well, he always likes to appear. Yeah, he decided that
- 31:04Speaker 1: we're cool, and I'm like, when did that happen? Like
- 31:07Speaker 1: he's telling everybody like, we're good, we're cool, and I'm like,
- 31:11Speaker 1: what did I miss something? Yeah? Yeah, so that's a
- 31:16Speaker 1: little irritating. But we're not on at each other's throat
- 31:19Speaker 1: right now. You know, we don't really have to talk
- 31:23Speaker 1: everything said. I drop her off, he picks her up, Like,
- 31:25Speaker 1: we don't even really have to see each other right now.
- 31:27Speaker 1: So I think that's nice to have that space apart.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Yeah, totally.
- 31:32Speaker 1: I heard a little something about your brother was sick.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Oh.
- 31:36Speaker 1: I don't know if you know about my mom what happened.
- 31:40Speaker 2: I don't.
- 31:40Speaker 3: I've heard vaguely, but I don't know any details. My
- 31:45Speaker 3: brother's doing great. He just moved to LA he's staying
- 31:48Speaker 3: with me.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Oh, no way.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sort of helping facilitate his transition into la
- 31:53Speaker 2: he's staying with me.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Is he your older brother, he's my younger brother.
- 31:56Speaker 2: He's a triplet high bird if you're listening.
- 31:58Speaker 1: But he didn't, he didn't have yet.
- 32:00Speaker 2: It'll ever transplant. It was insane. Oh, it was the
- 32:03Speaker 2: most insane thing.
- 32:04Speaker 3: I never I've never I never witnessed true addiction. Not
- 32:08Speaker 3: to undermine people who have problems with drugs and alcohol,
- 32:10Speaker 3: but I never witnessed someone being actually physiologically dependent on it,
- 32:15Speaker 3: where you if you don't have it, you can't go
- 32:18Speaker 3: out through you can't go through your day, and you
- 32:20Speaker 3: could die. You could have a seizure if you don't drink.
- 32:22Speaker 3: And I didn't even know that was a thing. I
- 32:24Speaker 3: thought maybe only with heroin and stuff like that, but
- 32:27Speaker 3: I didn't know with alcohol before I saw what happened
- 32:29Speaker 3: to my brother that, yeah, it's not like it's not
- 32:32Speaker 3: like you go out and you binge drink too often.
- 32:34Speaker 3: That's a problem in itself, But like, if he didn't
- 32:36Speaker 3: wake up and drink, he would start shaking and you
- 32:39Speaker 3: could have seizures. I would have to get him alcohol
- 32:42Speaker 3: until he would get treatment, you know, because otherwise he
- 32:44Speaker 3: could die. This all happened at once. It was insane.
- 32:47Speaker 3: My dad was in the hospital. Then my brother got
- 32:49Speaker 3: testicular cancer. Shout out to Brandau, he's thriving. Now it's cleared.
- 32:53Speaker 3: And then Bert was, yeah looking it was in the hospital, dying,
- 32:57Speaker 3: looking for a liver, and by grace of God or
- 33:01Speaker 3: miracle or whatever you believe in, it's just shout out
- 33:03Speaker 3: to doctor Baber. He was the person because he was
- 33:05Speaker 3: Bert was supposed to go to hospice and just they're like,
- 33:08Speaker 3: we want him to go there and just sort of
- 33:09Speaker 3: enjoy whatever he has left, whatever life he has left
- 33:12Speaker 3: in him, you know. And it was so sad and
- 33:14Speaker 3: I was like, hell no, not going to hospice. Yeah,
- 33:18Speaker 3: we had to fight for it, and we had to fight.
- 33:20Speaker 3: We fought, and we just like he had this really
- 33:22Speaker 3: awesome doctor, like a guardian angel, doctor Baber, who believed
- 33:25Speaker 3: in him because he was like they said he had
- 33:27Speaker 3: like six months to live. He had full john ice.
- 33:30Speaker 3: He was like, look like a school bus. He's so
- 33:32Speaker 3: I don't know what other he was like. He was
- 33:35Speaker 3: straight yellow. Yeah, and they said he had like six
- 33:38Speaker 3: months to live. But yeah, a long story short, Yeah,
- 33:42Speaker 3: he's he's alive. And well, I just like, I just
- 33:44Speaker 3: got him in and out today.
- 33:45Speaker 1: He was so stoked, amazing.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Yeah, he's thriving. He's got like a new glow.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Did that affect you back then?
- 33:51Speaker 3: Yeah, it was like all that happened kind of at
- 33:54Speaker 3: the same time while Schwartz and Sandy started failing too.
- 33:57Speaker 3: So I'm like, I'm gonna lose my entire invents, Like
- 34:01Speaker 3: I just and I felt like I would try to
- 34:02Speaker 3: go home and view with my family so much and
- 34:05Speaker 3: then but I'm like, I got to get back. The
- 34:06Speaker 3: bar needs me, and I would just be back and forth,
- 34:08Speaker 3: back and forth.
- 34:09Speaker 2: I was manic. People who are close to me know
- 34:12Speaker 2: that I was losing my mind.
- 34:13Speaker 1: What's the same when it rains, it pours.
- 34:15Speaker 2: It was pouring.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it was.
- 34:18Speaker 2: It was a monsoon.
- 34:20Speaker 1: I know what that's like.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, oh yeah. So how's what's going on?
- 34:24Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I mean, I'm I've been a little open
- 34:28Speaker 1: about it. My mom had cancer. While basically it happened
- 34:34Speaker 1: like two years ago when we found out instantly right
- 34:37Speaker 1: before the summer of doing the first season, and then
- 34:42Speaker 1: she was in chemo this last year a year ago,
- 34:46Speaker 1: I guess, and then she actually passed in November. Uh,
- 34:50Speaker 1: she was just when she when we found out, she
- 34:52Speaker 1: was already stage four and it was already all over.
- 34:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:57Speaker 1: So it was a very difficult time for me last
- 35:00Speaker 1: because I was dealing with two very tragic things.
- 35:04Speaker 2: That's right, I did it, By the way, I feel
- 35:06Speaker 2: like an idiot.
- 35:06Speaker 1: No, it's okay, it's okay. I actually wanted to talk
- 35:10Speaker 1: to you about it because I had heard about your brother,
- 35:12Speaker 1: but I didn't know if he was okay. And that
- 35:14Speaker 1: actually makes me very happy to hear.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Thank you and I'm so sorry. Yeah, I can't imagine.
- 35:19Speaker 2: There's no words, there is just you just experience it. You.
- 35:22Speaker 2: But you seem to be holding up pretty pretty damn well.
- 35:25Speaker 2: You have a good support system.
- 35:27Speaker 1: I do, and I have a lot of great friends.
- 35:29Speaker 1: You have a brother and sister.
- 35:31Speaker 2: You've got a lot of people that love you.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:33Speaker 2: Yeah. The girls are saying nothing but the sweetest things
- 35:36Speaker 2: about you. Well most of.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Them, yeah, not all of them, most of them. But
- 35:40Speaker 1: like my girls, the ones that I'm really close with,
- 35:43Speaker 1: they are my best friends and they always check on me,
- 35:45Speaker 1: and I'm very thankful to have to have them.
- 35:49Speaker 2: That's one thing like thinking back on like VPR and stuff.
- 35:52Speaker 3: It's a show, but those are real these just like
- 35:54Speaker 3: on your show, those are your real friends. And when
- 35:56Speaker 3: stuff like that happens like real life, like everyone said,
- 36:00Speaker 3: acide their differences and comes together.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'm sure with respect and deference and love.
- 36:05Speaker 1: And I actually was surprised by all the love that
- 36:07Speaker 1: I got and like I never expected, you know, Sena
- 36:10Speaker 1: to bring me food and Janet to go to the
- 36:13Speaker 1: funeral in San Diego and Brittany and just like you
- 36:17Speaker 1: just really see who's there for you. And that's why
- 36:20Speaker 1: I love them even more.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy that It's just it happens to all
- 36:24Speaker 2: of us.
- 36:25Speaker 3: It's inevitable, and it sounds like an idiotic thing to say,
- 36:28Speaker 3: but it's just yeah, it sounds, it feels so it's
- 36:31Speaker 3: so stark. But at the same time, I've got to
- 36:33Speaker 3: embrace our impermanence.
- 36:35Speaker 2: Right, That's what makes life great. Exactly, would you want
- 36:38Speaker 2: to live forever?
- 36:39Speaker 3: No, I'm good on that. Immortality sounds awful. Yeah, I
- 36:43Speaker 3: want to.
- 36:44Speaker 2: I want to.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Maybe I want a good life.
- 36:46Speaker 2: I want to.
- 36:46Speaker 3: I'm thinking like universe, I'm thinking like, let's just say
- 36:50Speaker 3: ninety and I might.
- 36:52Speaker 2: I might check out.
- 36:52Speaker 1: I agree I'm gonna I don't think I want to
- 36:54Speaker 1: hit a hundred, and.
- 36:56Speaker 3: I am going to fall apart once I'm like eighty
- 36:58Speaker 3: nine or ninety. I'm gonna drink smoke. I'm gonna be
- 37:01Speaker 3: saying no, not like in a toxic, harmful way, but
- 37:05Speaker 3: I'm just gonna let loose. I'm gonna be like the
- 37:07Speaker 3: dude from The Big Lebowski, and I'm gonna make sure
- 37:10Speaker 3: i'm spoil my grandkids if I'm lucky enough to have
- 37:13Speaker 3: my kids, my grandkids whatever.
- 37:15Speaker 1: I really see that for you, Like I'm manifesting you
- 37:18Speaker 1: meeting somebody?
- 37:19Speaker 2: Thank you?
- 37:21Speaker 1: How are you meeting people these days?
- 37:23Speaker 3: I just bump into people. I'm just That's one where
- 37:26Speaker 3: I've always been really lucky in life. Like the last
- 37:28Speaker 3: person I was chilling with I just bumped into in
- 37:30Speaker 3: a barn ended up becoming my best friend.
- 37:32Speaker 1: You just bumped into that.
- 37:33Speaker 2: We did. We bumped into each other and there just came.
- 37:35Speaker 2: I really like fell in love or.
- 37:37Speaker 1: I just start you just start flirting.
- 37:38Speaker 2: And I mean, I mean, I'm pretty passive. I gotta
- 37:41Speaker 2: be honest.
- 37:42Speaker 3: I know it's usually the girl who makes the first
- 37:44Speaker 3: move that sounds pathetic. It's not that I don't have
- 37:48Speaker 3: confidence or moxie or whatever, so you know, passive when
- 37:53Speaker 3: it comes to the initial relationships.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Yeah, so you won't make the first move.
- 37:58Speaker 3: I will, I will and I have and uh yeah, god,
- 38:03Speaker 3: I squirming over here.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Wait now, I want to know what it would be
- 38:06Speaker 1: your ideal first date?
- 38:08Speaker 2: First date?
- 38:09Speaker 3: Yeah, like ideal, I'd like to it's pretty stock, but
- 38:15Speaker 3: maybe get a drink at one of our places, just
- 38:18Speaker 3: a drink, nothing crazy, and then we go to a
- 38:21Speaker 3: really cool restaurant, maybe somewhere in Silver Lake or West Hollywood,
- 38:26Speaker 3: and uh yeah, eat some good food, have a drink
- 38:29Speaker 3: or two, and just and then just see where the
- 38:32Speaker 3: night takes us. I like to start with dinner and
- 38:35Speaker 3: then see how we feel and just improvise from there.
- 38:38Speaker 2: I mean, that's kind of boring.
- 38:40Speaker 1: I love I never get sick of that same here.
- 38:43Speaker 1: I love it too. I still like Erin and I
- 38:45Speaker 1: still do date nights. We make sure that we make
- 38:47Speaker 1: it a point like, oh we haven't gone out, like
- 38:49Speaker 1: let's go do something.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:51Speaker 3: My favorite thing to do is when I'm with someone
- 38:53Speaker 3: I really dig, is just to go hang out at
- 38:55Speaker 3: their place, order food, and watch movies. Of course, I
- 38:59Speaker 3: love traveling carbe DM. I love all that shit.
- 39:02Speaker 2: Wait, I'm getting I'm getting self conscious? Am I being monotone?
- 39:05Speaker 1: No?
- 39:05Speaker 2: Oh it's me. Oh my god, it's contagious. Hi, Michelle,
- 39:12Speaker 2: this has been really fun so far. Thank you for
- 39:14Speaker 2: having me on your podcast.
- 39:15Speaker 1: By the way, you were you said you were here
- 39:17Speaker 1: not long ago.
- 39:18Speaker 2: With with uh Sandoval and then to Teas in a
- 39:22Speaker 2: pod said.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Out to the gang, yeah, I heard some comments they
- 39:25Speaker 1: were making about me recently.
- 39:27Speaker 2: What did they say? What did they say? Words can't
- 39:30Speaker 2: hurt you.
- 39:30Speaker 1: She said that I'm not human and that I'm a
- 39:33Speaker 1: I And I don't even remember what they were saying,
- 39:38Speaker 1: but like everything they were saying, I was like, oh
- 39:39Speaker 1: my god, can you at least meet me for a
- 39:42Speaker 1: second before you have all of these opinions about me
- 39:45Speaker 1: like you have you've never met me in person for
- 39:47Speaker 1: one second?
- 39:48Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 39:49Speaker 1: And I actually I have never responded to any comments
- 39:53Speaker 1: like ever, I never do. I'll if I read it,
- 39:56Speaker 1: I don't like it, like I'll put my phone away.
- 39:58Speaker 1: But I was actually really irrit I'm like, you're two
- 40:01Speaker 1: women talking shit about me. You don't know me. And
- 40:05Speaker 1: so it was the first time that I actually wrote
- 40:07Speaker 1: a comment, and I responded.
- 40:09Speaker 2: Dm or on the comment. On the comment, what did
- 40:11Speaker 2: you say?
- 40:11Speaker 1: I said, like, thanks very much, real girls, girl, how
- 40:15Speaker 1: about like I am a human being.
- 40:18Speaker 3: We love to see women supporting women, and they always do.
- 40:21Speaker 3: But also, you know, at least.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Some women I know really like to talk behind closed
- 40:29Speaker 2: doors respectfully.
- 40:31Speaker 3: But no, I know, I know it hurts, but I
- 40:32Speaker 3: guarantee if you met them, they're lovely. By the way,
- 40:35Speaker 3: they'd give you a huggy by Darling. I'm sorry, it's
- 40:38Speaker 3: just like it comes out of us when we're podcasting,
- 40:40Speaker 3: not to make excuses for people being nasty or toxic
- 40:44Speaker 3: because it hurts.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I just feel like I wouldn't do that, but
- 40:48Speaker 1: I have to learn that not everybody would do what
- 40:51Speaker 1: I would do. I wouldn't talk negatively about somebody who
- 40:54Speaker 1: I don't even know.
- 40:56Speaker 3: I love letting people vent to me. Now I've gotten
- 40:59Speaker 3: so much better. I love when people come to me
- 41:01Speaker 3: and talk shit, even if it's about other people, because
- 41:04Speaker 3: I'm always like, you know, give me a second, I
- 41:08Speaker 3: just need to vent and talk some shit. Is that okay?
- 41:10Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, let loose and at the end almost
- 41:13Speaker 3: always are like, you know, and I still think this
- 41:15Speaker 3: person's a good person.
- 41:17Speaker 2: They have a good heart. I just needed to get
- 41:19Speaker 2: that out.
- 41:19Speaker 3: Sometimes it just feels good to have a good talking session,
- 41:22Speaker 3: just maybe not on the podcast.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Yeah, keep it to yourself.
- 41:25Speaker 2: It gets the clicks, but it's at what cost. There's
- 41:27Speaker 2: a human cost, right.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Yeah, of course that was hurt bowl and that was
- 41:31Speaker 1: the really mean thing to say about me, are you ai?
- 41:35Speaker 2: Yeah, Michelle's going.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Out out just Brittany and I. We go to my
- 41:42Speaker 1: favorite restaurant in West Hollywood and it's a really big
- 41:45Speaker 1: deal when the girls come my way.
- 41:47Speaker 2: You want to plug it? Favorite spot?
- 41:49Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Cassa Madera, Cassa Madera at the Mandrin we
- 41:52Speaker 1: have a lot by the way.
- 41:54Speaker 3: I think the audience knows this, but like that's like
- 41:57Speaker 3: if there's ever a vander Pump Rules tour the madre
- 41:59Speaker 3: On Skybar sit absolutely.
- 42:02Speaker 2: I had insane nights there.
- 42:05Speaker 3: Insane not like not even I'm not talking like debaucherous
- 42:09Speaker 3: or like drug related, just like insane things I've witnessed
- 42:12Speaker 3: at the Mangon.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Same here. When I was living in San Diego before
- 42:16Speaker 1: I moved to LA and it was like twenty thirteen
- 42:19Speaker 1: and I was thinking about moving to La. So I
- 42:22Speaker 1: remember staying at the Mandrin and just like, I'm like,
- 42:25Speaker 1: is this La on a Wednesday?
- 42:27Speaker 3: That's like in my mind when I first went there
- 42:29Speaker 3: on a Wednesday? Or have we had the same story?
- 42:32Speaker 3: I went and I was like, I felt like I
- 42:33Speaker 3: was in an episode.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Of Entourage, Yes, which is my favorite show, by.
- 42:36Speaker 3: The way, It's one of the there's so many things
- 42:38Speaker 3: inspired me to move out here inside the actor's studio,
- 42:41Speaker 3: but low key Entourage. I was always living vicariously through
- 42:44Speaker 3: Vinnie Instant Chase Yep. But anyways, No, the first time
- 42:49Speaker 3: I went to the Mangion, oh my god, I was like,
- 42:53Speaker 3: this is not real.
- 42:55Speaker 2: This is Ai Like it just looked like it was.
- 42:58Speaker 3: It was everything I imagine La would be like quint essential,
- 43:04Speaker 3: like that backdrop looking looking south out of the city.
- 43:07Speaker 1: It's beautiful.
- 43:08Speaker 2: It's so pretty.
- 43:09Speaker 1: So Cosa Madera is not like that. It's just a restaurant.
- 43:12Speaker 1: But I just like the vibe they have, like musicians
- 43:15Speaker 1: playing and good music and music vibe.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Yeah, oh, I've never seen I've never been there when
- 43:21Speaker 2: there's live music.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a guy that plays I don't know what instrument.
- 43:25Speaker 3: Tom Sandebal's first job was at the Mandren. Really always,
- 43:29Speaker 3: I always think of Tom when I when I think
- 43:31Speaker 3: of Skybar. His first job was at Skybar, a seat attendant.
- 43:36Speaker 3: Back when they were like popping bottles. I don't know
- 43:38Speaker 3: if they still do that, like bottle service and stuff.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Do they?
- 43:40Speaker 1: I don't think so they do. That's past my time.
- 43:43Speaker 1: I'm like an old lady.
