- 1:06SPEAKER_10: We start with Inside the Orange, involving Saturday's Win Over Auburn and General Nealand's game maxims.
- 1:14SPEAKER_10: Tennessee celebrated the 100th anniversary of Robert Nealand's first Tennessee football team on Saturday.
- 1:21SPEAKER_10: His game maxims were recited by these volunteers before the game, as they have been before every game.
- 1:36SPEAKER_10: It's what the defensive player shout after an interception to alert a teammate to go block somebody.
- 1:43SPEAKER_10: It's believed that General Neeland got the term Hosky from Illinois' fights on Hosky.
- 1:49SPEAKER_10: Well well.
- 1:50SPEAKER_10: Teams all over America still use it today, and Tennessee still believes in the maxims today.
- 1:57SPEAKER_10: Saturday in the win over Albert, General Neeland's game maxims were again proven true.
- 2:04SPEAKER_10: We show you the examples in this week's Inside the Orange presented by Google Gemini, official gen AI partner of Tennessee Athletics.
- 2:37SPEAKER_10: They are designed with keen detail in mind as a tip of the cap to Nealan's multiple eras of success here in Knoxville.
- 2:46SPEAKER_10: Featuring the cross pattern stripe on the helmets, the cream-colored pants, and the nod to Tennessee's use of UT as an identifying abbreviation.
- 3:01SPEAKER_13: We gotta hold these up front, random football, stop and running! We're the best team on the field today! We're the best team on the field today! We got playing with a cabinet!
- 3:12SPEAKER_10: Disrespect! Elon built players, teams, and a standard that could take on a weather front, opponents with different style quarterbacks, schools with standards that used to work for you! There were and there are no excuses! Tennessee football expectation in 1926 is the same in 2026.
- 4:04SPEAKER_13: Tennessee! It's harder!
- 4:06SPEAKER_21: Snaps it up in the round to throw it.
- 4:13SPEAKER_10: Both hit as he throws the as interception, coming the other way with it.
- 4:19SPEAKER_10: Lane! Lane at the 40! Lane at the 50! And Lane will be tackled just outside the 40-yard line of Albert.
- 4:28SPEAKER_10: They'll say it's the 43.
- 4:32SPEAKER_10: And now Bishop back in there in tailback as Tennessee starts this drive at the Albert 44.
- 4:38SPEAKER_10: Here's Bishop breaking the tackle.
- 4:39SPEAKER_10: He's to the 40.
- 4:40SPEAKER_10: For the 35 to the 30.
- 4:46SPEAKER_10: Touchdown!
- 4:48SPEAKER_07: Tennessee! Off at the bottom, break the opening ball.
- 5:05SPEAKER_07: Touchdown Tennessee.
- 5:07SPEAKER_07: All the momentum to the watch.
- 5:13SPEAKER_10: Throwing over the head of Jackson.
- 5:16SPEAKER_10: The balls pick up one first down, not another, and they will have to punt.
- 5:20SPEAKER_10: Taken down for a sack, and then is taken down by Womack again.
- 5:24SPEAKER_10: Tennessee lost 12 yards as the ball went out of bounds at the 27.
- 5:28SPEAKER_10: Tennessee going the wrong way.
- 5:30SPEAKER_10: So far, not so good for the Tennessee offense.
- 5:34SPEAKER_10: In basically every area, not a good offensive series for Tennessee, and might have lost the ball.
- 5:40SPEAKER_10: He did.
- 5:41SPEAKER_10: And Alburn has recovered.
- 5:43SPEAKER_10: McIntyre pops, fires right side complete and rolling out of bounds with it, but the clock is not stopped.
- 5:50SPEAKER_10: It's Brain.
- 5:51SPEAKER_10: Five seconds.
- 5:52SPEAKER_10: McIntyre getting him on the ball.
- 5:54SPEAKER_10: Three seconds, two seconds, one second.
- 5:56SPEAKER_10: He clocks it.
- 5:57SPEAKER_10: The clock goes to zero.
- 5:59SPEAKER_10: Good drive by George McIntyre in the balls.
- 6:02SPEAKER_10: All for naught.
- 6:02SPEAKER_10: We're at the half.
- 6:03SPEAKER_10: Albert seven, Tennessee three.
- 6:05SPEAKER_13: Hey, Albert's got a line of the game.
- 6:07SPEAKER_13: Let's go play ball.
- 6:08SPEAKER_13: Defense, keep doing it with physicality.
- 6:10SPEAKER_13: Go attack this thing.
- 6:11SPEAKER_13: Let's go fast right here in the third quarter.
- 6:13SPEAKER_13: But play relentless.
- 6:15SPEAKER_13: Last 30 minutes.
- 6:15SPEAKER_13: Everybody got me.
- 6:16SPEAKER_10: You got my team.
- 6:18SPEAKER_10: Brown's gonna throw it again.
- 6:20SPEAKER_10: Under pressure, he steps up.
- 6:22SPEAKER_10: He's hit.
- 6:22SPEAKER_10: He's dropped.
- 6:23SPEAKER_10: Straight from feeling heat.
- 6:25SPEAKER_10: Firing complete the boarding hand.
- 6:27SPEAKER_10: Not gonna get it.
- 6:28SPEAKER_10: Not gonna get it.
- 6:29SPEAKER_10: Didn't get it.
- 6:31SPEAKER_10: Macinton.
- 6:32SPEAKER_10: Leafing.
- 6:33SPEAKER_10: Pass time fires.
- 6:35SPEAKER_10: Complete.
- 6:36SPEAKER_10: 40.
- 6:37SPEAKER_10: 50.
- 6:38SPEAKER_10: 40.
- 6:38SPEAKER_10: And Mike Matthews is taken down in an upper territory.
- 6:42SPEAKER_10: Gonna give it to Bishop.
- 6:43SPEAKER_10: He bounces to the 20, to the 50, to the 10, to the 5, 2, B, and so.
- 6:51SPEAKER_10: D Sean Bishop!
- 6:53SPEAKER_07: Touchdown!
- 6:54SPEAKER_10: Tennessee! Tennessee gets tight.
- 7:00SPEAKER_10: Gonna give it inside to Bishop.
- 7:03SPEAKER_07: Oh, Sean Bishop! We have many people to make this.
- 7:07SPEAKER_07: Open the line right to the hopefully home.
- 7:09SPEAKER_07: Really good job by Perry to get just of an enough of a man in the backfield.
- 7:14SPEAKER_07: That's Tennessee football.
- 7:35SPEAKER_10: No.
- 7:35SPEAKER_10: That doesn't work.
- 7:37SPEAKER_10: He's in trouble.
- 7:38SPEAKER_10: He's hit! Carson Gentlemen! Gonna try to run it.
- 7:43SPEAKER_10: Gonna be depth! Jordan Norman! Mapson on the left side, Mapson, hit it! Mapson! Pickle off! Carter gets him back at the 44! In trouble, Brown! Here they come! Brown in trouble! Hit it! John! Fourth down! Less than one! Offer just shorter than number 25! Hit it! Left side trying to turn the corner.
- 8:17SPEAKER_10: Come on! No! No! He didn't get there! What a hit! What a pop! Robinson! What a play! Tennessee! Snap, Ross! Rugby kick right side! Kane backs up, has to ask for a fair catch at the last minute! Because Joe L.
- 8:41SPEAKER_10: Wyatt, freshman, from Shelbyville was bringing the smoke, had beaten the gunner, and was gonna clobber him.
- 8:50SPEAKER_10: Kick comes downfield.
- 8:51SPEAKER_10: Kane's waiting for a fair catch right away.
- 8:53SPEAKER_10: He lets it bounce, and Tennessee's gonna down it inside the five at about the one.
- 9:00SPEAKER_10: Hooper Renvier.
- 9:02SPEAKER_10: Out of the hold of Jackson Ross, Bennett Brady to snap it.
- 9:06SPEAKER_10: Snap, set, kick on the way.
- 9:15SPEAKER_10: Give Bishop running left side.
- 9:19SPEAKER_10: He's down to the 15 and stopped a yard short of the first down.
- 9:24SPEAKER_10: Here comes Carson Gentle.
- 9:26SPEAKER_10: Here comes Nathan Robinson.
- 9:28SPEAKER_10: Balls are going to go on fourth down and one.
- 9:35SPEAKER_10: Bishop to the five.
- 9:39SPEAKER_10: Tennessee says, this is who we are.
- 9:42SPEAKER_10: Makes the stand up.
- 9:44SPEAKER_10: And finished up at the right card.
- 9:46SPEAKER_13: He comes in the end time.
- 9:53SPEAKER_07: Tennessee.
- 9:56SPEAKER_07: We run the volume here on the top.
- 10:04SPEAKER_10: Next to step.
- 10:05SPEAKER_10: Look to his right.
- 10:06SPEAKER_10: First downfield past tipping intercepted.
- 10:10SPEAKER_10: Coming up with the ball and making the play for the volunteers.
- 10:15SPEAKER_10: It's tipping.
- 10:17SPEAKER_10: On this day that we talk about General Neal.
- 10:22SPEAKER_10: And honoring him, the Nealin legacy smokey gray jersey.
- 10:26SPEAKER_10: And talking about everything related to his teaching.
- 10:32SPEAKER_10: The game maximum in particular.
- 10:35SPEAKER_10: It was a fist fight and a phone food between two teams that wanted it very badly.
- 10:43SPEAKER_10: Tennessee got it.
- 10:46SPEAKER_10: Final score from Oxford.
- 10:48SPEAKER_10: Tennessee 24.
- 10:50SPEAKER_10: Albert 14.

- 12:47SPEAKER_00: It was a normal day going to the game with my son, but this time it felt like a sledgehammer hit my chest.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: The UT medical team knew exactly what they needed to do and just kept me calm throughout the process.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: It was probably the most serious heart attack that you could have.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: The team took care of me, worked quickly, efficiently, and I did catch the end of the game.
- 13:10SPEAKER_15: These are the stories of the region's academic health system.

- 15:22SPEAKER_10: Welcome back.
- 15:23SPEAKER_10: Thank you.
- 15:23SPEAKER_10: And welcome back to the lineup.
- 15:24SPEAKER_10: Obviously, you're feeling better.
- 15:26SPEAKER_19: Yeah, much better.
- 15:27SPEAKER_19: It was nice to be able to get back out there after a little two-week hiatus and to be back out there with the guys.
- 15:32SPEAKER_19: It was a lot of fun.
- 15:33SPEAKER_10: Your relationship with Derekowick was something very special.
- 15:37SPEAKER_10: How did he help you work through your injury situation and get back and be so effective on Saturday against Albert?
- 15:44SPEAKER_19: Yeah, I mean, obviously the physical part of it being our shrink coach is just having me in there and still doing a lot of extra stuff, mobility stuff.
- 15:50SPEAKER_19: Um but I mean where Dio really stepped in was just the mental aspect.
- 15:55SPEAKER_19: Um just trying to keep me in a good good headspace.
- 15:58SPEAKER_19: Um I mean, I remember him coming in the locker room before the Texas game when I did get rolled out after uh after warm-ups I was I was down.
- 16:08SPEAKER_19: That was really frustrating, and him just lifting me up.
- 16:11SPEAKER_19: It was really special uh to me and it helped me out a lot and just helped me progress in the past few weeks and get to a spot to where I could play as fast better.
- 16:20SPEAKER_10: You know something about working with strength coaches.
- 16:23SPEAKER_10: You know something about mindset from that from family?
- 16:26SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 16:27SPEAKER_10: Tell me about it.
- 16:28SPEAKER_19: Yep.
- 16:28SPEAKER_19: So uh my dad, he's um he was uh in the Marine Corps, he was a body bear up in Washington, DC.
- 16:35SPEAKER_19: So a body bear, uh Marine Corps world famous body bear.
- 16:38SPEAKER_19: So they did the Arlington funerals.
- 16:40SPEAKER_19: Okay.
- 16:41SPEAKER_19: Um so he he enjoyed lifting before that, but that's when he really got into it.
- 16:46SPEAKER_19: That's I mean, at the barracks in DC, that's all they did was work out.
- 16:51SPEAKER_19: Um and he got to do a lot of cool stuff with that.
- 16:53SPEAKER_19: He did uh the DC leg of Ronald Reagan's funeral.
- 16:57SPEAKER_19: Um and so yeah, again, just work out every day, that's how we got into it.
- 17:01SPEAKER_19: And then it was either my junior or senior year of high school.
- 17:05SPEAKER_19: Um we had a boy there in our high school program, and he um he was itching to do it and he was able to.
- 17:12SPEAKER_19: Um so that was that was really cool having dad there um that last season or two just to be around um going to our strength program and all that sort of stuff.
- 17:22SPEAKER_10: So whatever Derek Owings put you through, it's hard, but you're used to you you you've come from a place where you've probably been uh the the point guy for somebody giving you the business about that.
- 17:37SPEAKER_19: Even even before um he was a strength coach, my dad.
- 17:42SPEAKER_19: He was not a soft parenting guy.
- 17:44SPEAKER_19: Um I'll put it that way.
- 17:46SPEAKER_19: Uh so when I when I made young person mistakes, he would have me out in the backyard doing like Marine Corps disciplinary workouts and uh it it whipped my butt.
- 17:57SPEAKER_19: And uh I behave much better after those.
- 18:00SPEAKER_10: Now are you bigger than your father?
- 18:01SPEAKER_10: Yeah, considerably.
- 18:03SPEAKER_19: Um not in arms, but in height and okay.
- 18:11SPEAKER_10: Now is there some Auburn in your background?
- 18:14SPEAKER_19: Yes, sir.
- 18:15SPEAKER_10: Okay, so tell me about that.
- 18:16SPEAKER_19: So uh my great-granddad, he he played there either right before he went um overseas for World War II or right after.
- 18:25SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 18:25SPEAKER_19: Um and then my uh grandparents, this is all on my dad's side, my grandparents met there.
- 18:31SPEAKER_19: Um so yeah, I did I did grow up an Auburn fan, but there's no Auburn left anymore.
- 18:36SPEAKER_10: But I was gonna say that's gotta be extra special for you.
- 18:39SPEAKER_19: Yeah, it was um it was cool.
- 18:41SPEAKER_19: Um I mean growing up an Auburn fan, that younger, that's the place I wanted to go.
- 18:47SPEAKER_19: Um of course extremely blessed that that didn't work out because because I'm here and um I'm I'm wouldn't want it any other way.
- 18:56SPEAKER_19: Um so yeah, that was cool to be able to go out there and and play against them and and contribute.
- 19:01SPEAKER_19: I was beating myself up.
- 19:03SPEAKER_19: I would have beaten myself up if I had missed that one for uh a little injury.
- 19:08SPEAKER_10: Alright, so let's set it up.
- 19:10SPEAKER_10: Fourth and one, just under seven minutes to play.
- 19:13SPEAKER_10: They're going for it inside their own 25-yard line.
- 19:18SPEAKER_10: Take us through Nathan Robinson's setup on the play and how it all came down.
- 19:24SPEAKER_19: Well, first off, I mean, all glory to God.
- 19:27SPEAKER_19: Um just I wouldn't be in that position without him, uh, even as far as the injuries or the injury these past few weeks, um him just continuing to work getting me to a getting me to a place where I can play um and feel good enough to play, and then him just opening that play up for me.
- 19:44SPEAKER_19: Um but as far as the question goes, they uh so they brought in their extra tackle and their D tackle um that for them this season that's in their their little push-play um personnel group.
- 19:56SPEAKER_19: So I'm like bearing all the way down in a four-point stance like face six inches from the ground as low as I can get it, and then I air crawl.
- 20:07SPEAKER_19: And I see um I see the quarterback's hips open for a toss and the running back kind of flare out, and I'm like, oh crap, this is not the position I want to be in for uh for a toss.
- 20:17SPEAKER_19: Uh luckily I was able to get my footing and and rebound and be able to get out there to contribute.
- 20:23SPEAKER_10: All those marine drills.
- 20:24SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 20:25SPEAKER_10: Being able to well, I mean, you turned and ran to the ball, and they tell every defensive lineman run to the ball and something good will happen, whether it's at the line of scrimmage or down the field.
- 20:34SPEAKER_10: And I mean you followed that totally and and got there and finished off what was a pretty good ball carry.
- 20:42SPEAKER_10: So you you see it and you're like, oh gosh, I'm gonna be I'm gonna be able to make this play.
- 20:49SPEAKER_19: Yeah, and I mean AC did a great job of setting that edge, getting that running back to cut it up and then teeth line and uh really I mean I get no doubt um uh just having those guys back there that kind of set that up for me and that wouldn't have happened without them.
- 21:04SPEAKER_10: For them to put you in the game at that point.
- 21:06SPEAKER_10: I mean to say, hey, this is the biggest play of the game so far, Nathan Robinson, we need you to get in there.
- 21:13SPEAKER_19: Absolutely.
- 21:14SPEAKER_19: Um everything I've been through um as far as injuries and and being in a extremely room for years, um rocket camera and like that.
- 21:31SPEAKER_19: And um I'm just grateful for you.
- 21:37SPEAKER_19: Um right now with it.
- 22:01SPEAKER_10: But the people who are playing are people in whom he has trust.
- 22:08SPEAKER_10: The trust is just such a big word in terms of understanding responsibility, assignment, doing whatever you need to do to not only make the play yourself, but to be able to help the man next to you on either side or behind you be able to go make the play.
- 22:24SPEAKER_10: Describe the trust factor that that that figures in when you meet and that goes into a game plan and the development of who's going to go in the game.
- 22:33SPEAKER_19: Yeah.
- 22:34SPEAKER_19: I mean trust is huge for our defense.
- 22:36SPEAKER_19: Coach Null says it weekly.
- 22:38SPEAKER_19: He says you'll never be in a position in your life where you can trust ten other guys like you do right now.
- 22:42SPEAKER_19: And I mean that's true every snap out there.
- 22:45SPEAKER_19: Um I I know exactly where my brothers are gonna be.
- 22:48SPEAKER_19: Um and I mean I they do the same to me and we rely on each other.
- 22:53SPEAKER_19: Um and then just the selflessness um when when we all are in in the right spot, um just relying on each other and nobody's getting butt hurt at the plate and end up in their lap.
- 23:06SPEAKER_19: I mean, we're all supportive of each other, we all have a blast out there.
- 23:09SPEAKER_19: Um just we're a really tight group and and we all love and trust the crap out of each other.
- 23:15SPEAKER_19: Um so it's just been a lot of fun and coaching all just leading leading the charge on that ready to go back to Arkansas.
- 23:22SPEAKER_10: Yeah, we got what do you remember from two years ago?
- 23:28SPEAKER_19: Not good memories.
- 23:30SPEAKER_19: It was um I mean it is what it is, but luckily that was two years ago and not October, whenever it'll be Saturday.
- 23:39SPEAKER_10: You get a chance to fix it.
- 23:40SPEAKER_19: Yep, that's right.
- 23:41SPEAKER_10: That's that's all you can think about.
- 23:42SPEAKER_10: Well, congratulations.
- 23:43SPEAKER_10: So glad you're back, first of all.
- 23:46SPEAKER_10: And uh so good to see you get a chance to be on a big in a big play that Tennessee fans are gonna remember.
- 23:51SPEAKER_10: I know what it means to you to be out there and to have moments like that are extra special.
- 23:56SPEAKER_10: Excellent job.
- 23:57SPEAKER_10: Thanks, Mike.
- 23:57SPEAKER_10: Nathan Robinson, right here with us on the Mike Keith show.
- 24:00SPEAKER_10: By the way, we're gonna hear from David Hobbs earlier.
- 24:03SPEAKER_10: Uh, should we ask him anything, anything we should bring up with him?
- 24:09SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 24:10SPEAKER_10: I was just wondering if there was anything you wanted me to ask.
- 24:13SPEAKER_10: I I could have done it.
- 24:14SPEAKER_10: Should there be?
- 24:15SPEAKER_10: No, okay, no, okay.
- 24:17SPEAKER_10: We're back with more of the show right after this.
- 24:23SPEAKER_11: We're taking you inside the walls of Rocky Top.
- 24:27SPEAKER_11: The Mike Keith Show presented by Uber Eats.
- 24:30SPEAKER_08: This is your ball network.
- 24:36SPEAKER_10: The Mike Keith Show delivered by Uber Eats continues with Tennessee basketball player Miles Rubin.
- 24:43SPEAKER_10: Next week, when Tennessee hosts Xavier in their exhibition opener, Miles Rubin will not be hard to pick out.
- 24:50SPEAKER_10: He's number 25, he's 6'10, and the Chicago native will make sure that no one scores in the post while also demonstrating some offensive skills of his own.
- 25:03SPEAKER_10: Let's get to know Miles Rubin on the Mike East show, vol post player for Rick Barnes basketball team.
- 25:12SPEAKER_10: His visit with us is presented by Food City.
- 25:15SPEAKER_10: I like to go there and shop.
- 25:17SPEAKER_10: The official grocery store of the Vols.
- 25:19SPEAKER_10: Official tailgate headquarters of the Vols.
- 25:22SPEAKER_10: How you doing?
- 25:22SPEAKER_18: I'm good.
- 25:23SPEAKER_10: I'm good.
- 25:24SPEAKER_10: Hundred starts at Loyola of Chicago.
- 25:28SPEAKER_10: That's very impressive.
- 25:29SPEAKER_10: And so you come here, an experienced player.
- 25:32SPEAKER_10: You're from the city of Chicago.
- 25:34SPEAKER_10: So what is this like coming here after you grow up in Chicago, go to college in Chicago, and now you're in Knoxville, Tennessee?
- 25:43SPEAKER_18: Uh it's very different from where I grew up from.
- 25:46SPEAKER_18: I mean, Chicago's such a big city, it's a lot of things to do.
- 25:49SPEAKER_18: A lot of people, a lot of people just mind their business up there, but like down here in Knoxville, I feel like it's more like everybody's together, everybody's connected, like you can feel like the college atmosphere compared to what Chicago was, where it's like a big city and like college was just on the side a little bit.
- 26:06SPEAKER_09: What made you choose Tennessee?
- 26:09SPEAKER_18: Uh, I feel like Coach Barnes and uh I feel like he could push me to be the best player that I can be, and uh I feel like we could do something special as a team here that we can go big and win a national championship.
- 26:21SPEAKER_10: Labar Morgan, one of Tennessee's assistant basketball coaches, recruited you to Loyola of Chicago, and he helped recruit you here.
- 26:30SPEAKER_10: How different was his pitch from Loyola of Chicago to Tennessee?
- 26:35SPEAKER_18: Uh it was very different.
- 26:36SPEAKER_18: I mean, going to Chicago, I feel like I feel like I could help the team right away and making them a better team after they came from a not so good season they had before.
- 26:46SPEAKER_18: But I feel like here at uh Tennessee, I feel I can come in, come help us win a national championship, but it's very different from where I just came from and play at a high level.
- 26:54SPEAKER_10: They have a twin brother.
- 26:56SPEAKER_10: Okay, what's his name?
- 26:58SPEAKER_10: Uh Wes.
- 26:59SPEAKER_10: Wes.
- 26:59SPEAKER_10: And he's at Lincoln Memorial.
- 27:01SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 27:02SPEAKER_10: So he's in Harrigan about an hour and 20 minutes away.
- 27:05SPEAKER_10: And and he's new there, correct?
- 27:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah, he is.
- 27:08SPEAKER_10: Okay, so which one of you committed?
- 27:10SPEAKER_10: Did he commit to Lincoln Memorial first or did you commit to Tennessee first?
- 27:14SPEAKER_18: Uh I committed Tennessee first, and then shortly after he had a few Zoom calls, and then he ended up at Lincoln Memorial, which was good school for him.
- 27:22SPEAKER_10: That's a good convenient place too.
- 27:24SPEAKER_10: Are you guys able to see one another?
- 27:26SPEAKER_10: Do you meet halfway or one come to Knoxville, one go to Harrigan?
- 27:29SPEAKER_10: How does that work?
- 27:30SPEAKER_18: Uh, usually we go see each other.
- 27:32SPEAKER_18: Like I'll go down there and see him, he'll come down and see me.
- 27:34SPEAKER_18: Uh he'll come down here a lot, see like the football games, everything.
- 27:38SPEAKER_18: So that'll be fun.
- 27:39SPEAKER_10: That's great.
- 27:40SPEAKER_10: All right.
- 27:41SPEAKER_10: As a post, you are an expert at blocking shots.
- 27:44SPEAKER_10: If I've got this right, you block 237 shots in your career.
- 27:49SPEAKER_10: What makes a good shot blocker and why do you like to do it?
- 27:53SPEAKER_18: Uh what makes a good shot blocker, I feel like timing is very important.
- 27:58SPEAKER_18: If you figure out what the timing is and what time they're going up, I feel like it's easy to block the shot and uh or either not even block the shot, but make a good contest on the shot.
- 28:08SPEAKER_09: What do you like about blocking shots?
- 28:10SPEAKER_09: What's your favorite part of making that happen?
- 28:12SPEAKER_18: Uh I feel like just denying them, like making them feel like they have a chance to score.
- 28:16SPEAKER_18: But then at the end you just go clean it up and go block it.
- 28:19SPEAKER_10: Is a lot of that gonna be your role on this basketball team, you think?
- 28:23SPEAKER_18: Uh yeah, I feel like it's gonna be a pretty big role for me.
- 28:26SPEAKER_18: Uh just playing defense, go blocking shots, and uh be the anchor of this team for the defensively.
- 28:32SPEAKER_10: And you're that's what you like to do, so that's absolutely no problem, right?
- 28:36SPEAKER_18: Yeah, no problem at all.
- 28:38SPEAKER_10: All right.
- 28:38SPEAKER_10: As you look at this basketball team, having been a college player for three years, you you know the college game.
- 28:45SPEAKER_10: What do you like about this makeup of this team with the basketball balls?
- 28:50SPEAKER_18: I feel like this team has a lot of pieces, like a lot of older pieces coming in.
- 28:55SPEAKER_18: And I feel like everybody knows how to play the game of basketball and everybody wants to win.
- 28:59SPEAKER_18: I feel like that's the biggest thing.
- 29:01SPEAKER_18: People came from schools where they made it to the tournament and didn't make it as far.
- 29:06SPEAKER_18: So I feel like everybody wants to come together and come win big here.
- 29:10SPEAKER_10: So because several of these guys were the best players on their college teams and come here and and maybe have to put aside some of the personal goals a little bit to make the team better, but in watching you practice, it feels like that's coming together quite naturally.
- 29:26SPEAKER_10: Is that in your mind because Coach Barnes only wants a certain type of not only player, but a certain type of person.
- 29:33SPEAKER_18: I feel like Coach Barnes, he like he pushes people to what he wants them to be, and that just makes our team better overall.
- 29:42SPEAKER_18: I feel like he pushes them, and then we all like connect to connect together and figure out what our roles are and what we gotta do to win and succeed as a team.
- 29:53SPEAKER_10: I enjoyed that visit with Miles Rubin and am looking forward to watching him play, as I know you are too.
- 29:59SPEAKER_10: Also glad to tell you about the beef sweepstakes.
- 30:03SPEAKER_10: The beef sweepstakes are back.

- 34:09SPEAKER_05: Hello, and welcome to Asscoach Hypo.
- 34:12SPEAKER_05: I'm your host, Josh Heifel.
- 34:14SPEAKER_05: Brent Wright.
- 34:16SPEAKER_05: Coach, know any good dad jokes?
- 34:21SPEAKER_05: Hey Brent, thanks for asking me.
- 34:23SPEAKER_05: Why is grilling so great in Knoxville?
- 34:26SPEAKER_05: Because the vaults always bring the heat.
- 34:29SPEAKER_05: This has been Ask Coach Hypo, brought to you by Food City, the official tailgating headquarters of the vault.
- 34:53SPEAKER_10: The Tuesday edition of the Mike Keith Show delivered by Uber Eats continues.
- 34:57SPEAKER_10: This is number nine, Marion Dye.
- 35:01SPEAKER_10: This guy, four sacks on the year.
- 35:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 35:04SPEAKER_10: Welcome.
- 35:06SPEAKER_10: How are you?
- 35:06SPEAKER_20: I'm doing good.
- 35:07SPEAKER_10: All right, so you know you didn't get a sack on the play where on the strip sack?
- 35:12SPEAKER_20: Yeah, I know.
- 35:12SPEAKER_20: I seen that.
- 35:14SPEAKER_20: That's bad, right?
- 35:16SPEAKER_10: That's a sack.
- 35:16SPEAKER_20: I was mad.
- 35:17SPEAKER_10: That's a strip sack.
- 35:18SPEAKER_20: Yeah.
- 35:19SPEAKER_10: But it does because the ball was recovered beyond the line of scrimmage, you don't get a sack.
- 35:23SPEAKER_20: Yeah, Coach Jackson called me uh the day after and told me I was like, nah.
- 35:27SPEAKER_20: That ain't right.
- 35:28SPEAKER_20: Yeah.
- 35:28SPEAKER_20: Right?
- 35:29SPEAKER_20: Facts.
- 35:30SPEAKER_10: But still, a big play, everything you're coached to do.
- 35:34SPEAKER_10: And when you sat in that chair back in August, you said, Coach Garner is working hard with me to use my length.
- 35:43SPEAKER_10: Yes, sir.
- 35:43SPEAKER_10: Because you got serious length.
- 35:45SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 35:45SPEAKER_10: On that play, you're using your length.
- 35:47SPEAKER_10: Are you finding that as you're doing those things he's coached you to do, it's now becoming more natural with without even having to think about it?
- 35:57SPEAKER_20: Yeah, most definitely.
- 35:58SPEAKER_20: I'm definitely starting to um figure out who I really am as a pass rusher.
- 36:02SPEAKER_20: I feel like um and like the spring and like halfway through like fall camp, I was trying to, I was really like, not I wouldn't say lost as a pass rusher, but like I didn't really like know my game.
- 36:13SPEAKER_20: But now I'm really trying to find my game and like really learn, like and really use my God-given abilities for real.
- 36:19SPEAKER_10: When it starts to happen like this, and you start to rack up these sacks, and even the ones that aren't sacks that are certainly big plays, how much more confidence do you have going out there than you did say a year ago?
- 36:32SPEAKER_20: Now it that definitely gives me um a lot more confidence just knowing the work that I put in and just seeing the work is paying off every Saturday.
- 36:38SPEAKER_20: So that definitely gives me a bit of confidence boost.
- 36:41SPEAKER_10: And the talk about potential was big with you.
- 36:44SPEAKER_10: Like Marion Dye could be the guy that comes on.
- 36:47SPEAKER_10: When you start to fulfill that potential and you become one of those guys like Xavier Gilliam is that you're you're a marked man, so to speak.
- 36:56SPEAKER_10: They have to know where number nine is.
- 36:58SPEAKER_10: It's pretty pretty good feeling as a defensive lineman.
- 37:02SPEAKER_10: To be out there and playing in the flow as that defensive lineman now, how much faster do you feel like you're going?
- 37:08SPEAKER_20: I feel I'm going way faster now.
- 37:10SPEAKER_20: Like at first, I was like, I'm a big thinker.
- 37:12SPEAKER_20: So at first I was kind of thinking a lot, but now I'm just going out there playing free and just solving all my problems with aggression.
- 37:18SPEAKER_10: So now as Coach Jackson and Coach Garner continue to work with you, what are the things you're trying to fine-tune going into Arkansas this week, um, really just small things like footwork.
- 37:31SPEAKER_20: These are my footwork, you know, just continue to play with my length.
- 37:35SPEAKER_20: That'd be the main thing for me.
- 37:36SPEAKER_20: Just continue to keep my arms out long.
- 37:39SPEAKER_20: And yeah, them the main two things for me for real.
- 37:42SPEAKER_10: To play another mobile quarterback, Jackson for Arkansas can really move around.
- 37:47SPEAKER_10: What do you take from playing against Brown, the mobile quarterback from Auburn, to playing against Jackson this weekend in Fayetteville?
- 37:55SPEAKER_20: Um, I would say um really just wrap up.
- 37:58SPEAKER_20: Tackle the man just and really like stay on your pass rush line.
- 38:01SPEAKER_20: Don't try to do too much.
- 38:02SPEAKER_20: Just stay on your ass time and really wrap up when you uh get get in there.
- 38:05SPEAKER_10: Xavier Gilliam, when you're in film and you're watching yourself and you're watching other teammates, and you see him, what do you think?
- 38:13SPEAKER_10: A dog.
- 38:14SPEAKER_20: Just a dog.
- 38:15SPEAKER_20: A dog.
- 38:16SPEAKER_20: Why his get off, his motor, just his mindset.
- 38:20SPEAKER_10: So like and I mean, he makes things happen even when he doesn't make the tackle.
- 38:24SPEAKER_10: Yes, sir.
- 38:25SPEAKER_10: Um, as a group, where do you feel like the defensive line has improved the most since let's say back in January when Derek Owings got here to run the strength and conditioning program?
- 38:38SPEAKER_10: Have you seen that carry over in the way that you thought it would?
- 38:42SPEAKER_20: No, yeah.
- 38:42SPEAKER_20: I'd say we really did become in more one as a like even off the field, like we'll come we're becoming more one.
- 38:48SPEAKER_20: We're always hanging out together.
- 38:49SPEAKER_20: Like we're really just building that chemistry.
- 38:51SPEAKER_20: I feel like that helps us so much on the field.
- 38:52SPEAKER_20: Like just trusting the man next to me.
- 38:54SPEAKER_20: Like, I know, like I know X is going to be in this gap, so I don't gotta worry about trying to do too much and go to this gap.
- 38:59SPEAKER_20: I just gotta I can I can just worry about doing what I gotta do.
- 39:02SPEAKER_20: They play you all over.
- 39:04SPEAKER_20: Yes, sir.
- 39:04SPEAKER_10: Um, you have no problem playing on the right side or the left side.
- 39:08SPEAKER_10: Is that something you had to learn, or is that something you've been comfortable with moving around?
- 39:13SPEAKER_20: In high school, they moved me around a lot, but I was kind of more on the left side, but I I kind of play like I kind of dropped back a little bit in high school.
- 39:22SPEAKER_20: But now, like since last year, Koji just had me doing both sides, so it just became natural.
- 39:27SPEAKER_20: That's great.
- 39:28SPEAKER_20: Yes, sir, because you know there are guys in the NFL who can only play one side.
- 39:32SPEAKER_10: Yes, sir.
- 39:32SPEAKER_10: They're guys in football that that's their so being able to play both sides, that's good.
- 39:37SPEAKER_10: Yes, sir.
- 39:37SPEAKER_10: I mean that's yeah, that'd be good going forward, too.
- 39:41SPEAKER_10: Um food city.
- 39:43SPEAKER_10: Food City uh is a is a great sponsor of the Vols, the official tailgate headquarters and grocery store supermarket of the Vols.
- 39:52SPEAKER_10: Um you did some things with them during Media Day.
- 39:55SPEAKER_20: What was it like working with Food City and Media Day?
- 39:57SPEAKER_20: It was amazing, man.
- 39:59SPEAKER_20: They got a great group over there.
- 40:00SPEAKER_20: They definitely showed a lot of love.
- 40:02SPEAKER_20: So it was definitely great work.
- 40:03SPEAKER_10: Did you did you like doing all the filming and the different things?
- 40:07SPEAKER_10: Do you enjoy that?
- 40:08SPEAKER_20: Yeah, most definitely.
- 40:08SPEAKER_20: I know it's a blessing.
- 40:10SPEAKER_20: I I I prayed for this my whole life and now I'm finally doing it, so it's definitely a blessing.
- 40:13SPEAKER_10: That's great.
- 40:14SPEAKER_10: All right, so you know what I like to I love how they do the introductions in Nealin' Stadium when they have you all fold your arms and say say your name and everything.
- 40:23SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 40:24SPEAKER_10: The the best one, I think, is the defensive line, though.
- 40:26SPEAKER_10: No, for sure.
- 40:27SPEAKER_10: You guys, now did you try to look extra mean in that?
- 40:30SPEAKER_10: That's just us, man.
- 40:32SPEAKER_10: But that's good, right?
- 40:33SPEAKER_10: Yes, sir.
- 40:34SPEAKER_10: All right, so I'm gonna bring David Hobbs on here in a second.
- 40:37SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 40:38SPEAKER_10: Tell me something about him.
- 40:39SPEAKER_10: What do you think about number five, David Hobbs?
- 40:41SPEAKER_20: I said a true big brother.
- 40:43SPEAKER_20: For sure.
- 40:44SPEAKER_20: Like Ericsson and I got here um when I got here uh two December ago.
- 40:48SPEAKER_20: I say, yeah, two December.
- 40:50SPEAKER_20: He I just he just put me under his wing because just working from working out with him from hanging out with him.
- 40:55SPEAKER_20: Well, it really started from when I was getting recruited.
- 40:58SPEAKER_20: He was my host on the visit.
- 40:59SPEAKER_20: Was he really?
- 41:00SPEAKER_20: Yeah.
- 41:00SPEAKER_20: So yeah, it really started back then.
- 41:01SPEAKER_20: Then when I got here in December, he was just really a real big brother, just helped me on and off the field, you know, moving in my place.
- 41:08SPEAKER_20: Uh, just seeing how you work in the work in the weight room just really inspired me to really keep going and keep pushing all day to day.
- 41:13SPEAKER_20: So none of the two night.
- 41:14SPEAKER_20: Thanks for you're nasty, man.
- 41:16SPEAKER_10: Yeah, keep keep playing.
- 41:17SPEAKER_10: Okay, Marion died, number nine, right here.
- 41:20SPEAKER_10: And number five, Davin Hobbs.
- 41:22SPEAKER_10: Uh, he is a guy who's making things happen.
- 41:25SPEAKER_10: Interesting with him, much like Xavier Gilliam in the in the win over Albert, he had one tackle, but he had three big quarterback pressures.
- 41:35SPEAKER_10: Everybody contributing in different ways.
- 41:37SPEAKER_10: Here's my conversation with David Hobbs.
- 41:41SPEAKER_09: Welcome back.
- 41:42SPEAKER_09: Yes, sir, yes, sir.
- 41:43SPEAKER_10: You're looking good?
- 41:43SPEAKER_17: Thank you.
- 41:44SPEAKER_10: You feeling good?
- 41:45SPEAKER_10: Yeah, feel feel feeling good as the days go by.
- 41:48SPEAKER_10: Are you getting better?
- 41:48SPEAKER_10: Yes, sir.
- 41:49SPEAKER_10: Uh continuing to pick up your play.
- 41:52SPEAKER_10: I mean, it seems like as the weather starts to cool off a little bit more, your game starts to pick up even more.
- 41:58SPEAKER_10: You get into October and November.
- 42:00SPEAKER_10: You just get better and better.
- 42:01SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 42:02SPEAKER_10: What is it with your game that as the season moves along, you continue to take more and more steps and make more and more plays?
- 42:12SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I mean, it's been like that for a couple years, like ever since a couple years now.
- 42:18SPEAKER_17: I mean, I get more and more reps, the just the more and more better I feel out there, you know.
- 42:25SPEAKER_17: The the last week of camp before season started, I was off.
- 42:28SPEAKER_17: And then last the week before Texas, I was off.
- 42:31SPEAKER_17: So just more getting more and more reps, feeling more and more comfortable.
- 42:34SPEAKER_17: It just picks up like that.
- 42:36SPEAKER_10: The mental part of the preparation, as you get to be an older player in college, is that something you understand better and better that you feel like gives you an advantage?
- 42:47SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I mean, the mental side of things, I really didn't really pick up on it now until really this year for real with what I'm doing and what's going on.
- 42:54SPEAKER_17: So, like, just adding that part to not really my game, just the life, the mental side of everything.
- 43:00SPEAKER_17: Like, mental health is real, you know, you gotta keep your mental right and just doing things to go along with that.
- 43:07SPEAKER_17: And then when it comes to football, I mean, mental reps is everything.
- 43:11SPEAKER_17: Are you more intentional in everything about your life right now?
- 43:15SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I'll definitely say that for sure.
- 43:17SPEAKER_17: Why would you say that's important?
- 43:19SPEAKER_17: Man, being intentional is everything.
- 43:21SPEAKER_17: I wish I would have uh understood that way, way earlier, you know.
- 43:25SPEAKER_17: But a lot of us do.
- 43:26SPEAKER_17: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:27SPEAKER_17: But yeah, I mean, having are the coaches around uh staying on me about that, you know.
- 43:32SPEAKER_17: Not really staying on me, but just keep keep reminding me that you gotta be in touch with everything you do now.
- 43:37SPEAKER_17: So I've just that in the back of my head, and just thinking about that every day now, just I just come in more and more tuned in to the stuff I maybe wasn't too tuned in about, but now I'm just overly tuned in on it, so it's been better for the mentor in my game.
- 43:51SPEAKER_10: Where has Coach Owings asked you to make progress in terms of your your fitness, your size, your strength, all of those?
- 44:00SPEAKER_10: Your speed.
- 44:00SPEAKER_10: Mm-hmm.
- 44:01SPEAKER_17: Oh.
- 44:02SPEAKER_17: I mean, I used to I mean I mean I would say really just uh keeping my body up and going, you know, uh keeping good health, really that side of things, doing more FRC stretching.
- 44:15SPEAKER_10: FRC.
- 44:16SPEAKER_17: It's like a little thing we do.
- 44:17SPEAKER_17: Uh so what do you call it?
- 44:18SPEAKER_17: We do FRC.
- 44:19SPEAKER_17: So like it'd be like joint work, stretching, stuff like that.
- 44:23SPEAKER_17: Just doing more of those things, modalities.
- 44:25SPEAKER_17: So the red light, cryo, uh all the new stuff we got in there to really help your body recover.
- 44:32SPEAKER_17: Just staying on top of that.
- 44:34SPEAKER_10: In the defensive line with Rodney Garner, we know what those rooms are like.
- 44:38SPEAKER_10: We know what the practice feels like.
- 44:39SPEAKER_10: He's very demanding.
- 44:40SPEAKER_10: Are defensive linemen essentially being asked to do anything differently now in this new defense under Coach Knowles?
- 44:47SPEAKER_17: Uh not really.
- 44:48SPEAKER_17: You know, all we really asked to do is play hard and play fast.
- 44:52SPEAKER_17: Uh limit your MA's, uh, but just go go 100% every single time we're out there.
- 44:57SPEAKER_17: And you just when you just play like that, I mean, year in and out.
- 45:00SPEAKER_17: I mean, we did that year before.
- 45:02SPEAKER_17: We did that last year, and now we're doing it again.
- 45:03SPEAKER_17: So really just staying on uh that that kind of timing.
- 45:07SPEAKER_17: But you know, the playbook's different, of course, but just play hard and play fast.
- 45:12SPEAKER_10: Tell me about Isaiah Campbell.
- 45:14SPEAKER_10: Uh what has he been able to do and where has he been able to grow?
- 45:18SPEAKER_17: Yeah, Camp, uh, you know, he missed a little bit of uh camp, so he's really just now starting to pick up and get going.
- 45:27SPEAKER_17: I mean, Camp Camp's probably one of the strongest dudes I know.
- 45:30SPEAKER_17: Once once Camp figures puts everything in Camp's good to be a dangerous player, he's got good twitch, he's strong.
- 45:36SPEAKER_17: He's probably honestly, he's probably the strongest in the room, I ain't gonna lie.
- 45:39SPEAKER_17: Like just his power on the field, like you just plays out there, you see them when we watch it, like Camp's strong.
- 45:46SPEAKER_17: Once he gets to do that every play, Camp's gonna be a good player.
- 45:50SPEAKER_09: Tell me about JJ Finch, the freshman out of Indianapolis.
- 45:52SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I mean, JJ's a baller.
- 45:54SPEAKER_17: Uh JJ came in, uh Coach AJ was in the room the other day telling him you're not a young guy no more, and you gotta stop thinking like a young guy.
- 46:02SPEAKER_17: Now, once he does that, it's go his games will go keep getting better and better.
- 46:05SPEAKER_17: He's really, he's he's he didn't necessarily surprise me, but like JJ's a smooth player for sure.
- 46:10SPEAKER_17: Xavier Gilliam.
- 46:12SPEAKER_17: X is a baller.
- 46:14SPEAKER_17: The baller is a baller.
- 46:15SPEAKER_17: Yeah, ex baller.
- 46:16SPEAKER_17: He's surprised a lot of people.
- 46:17SPEAKER_17: Mm-hmm.
- 46:17SPEAKER_17: X is a hooper.
- 46:18SPEAKER_17: He's hooping right now, you know.
- 46:20SPEAKER_17: Uh everybody'll shook it up in Terry a little bit.
- 46:23SPEAKER_17: He's holding it down.
- 46:24SPEAKER_17: I mean, he's above and beyond right now.
- 46:27SPEAKER_17: We need him to keep playing like that, everybody else to keep up their pace, you know.
- 46:30SPEAKER_17: We have a really, really good squad this year, and everybody's tight, close.
- 46:35SPEAKER_17: I think everybody wants to be in that upward direction.
- 46:39SPEAKER_17: So everybody's coming together and really pushing for that.
- 46:42SPEAKER_17: For you, what do you want to do the rest of the season?
- 46:45SPEAKER_17: You know, man, just be a good teammate, you know.
- 46:50SPEAKER_17: Uh keeping my head up, you know, staying active with everybody, uh just really being a better leader.
- 46:56SPEAKER_17: I feel that's one of the big things.
- 46:59SPEAKER_17: Like on the field leader.
- 47:01SPEAKER_17: Like, you know, I'm a good leader, like in the locker room off the field, making sure everybody's cool, but I just need to do a better job of uh being like a better leader on the field, you know?
- 47:09SPEAKER_17: Not in like a sense of just making sure everybody's always good, keeping going, uh staying good energy, things like that.
- 47:16SPEAKER_10: If I say you're a different guy than the guy I talked to a year ago, you think that's fair?
- 47:22SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I mean, I've been, yeah, that's definitely fair.
- 47:24SPEAKER_17: I've so much stuff has happened since then.
- 47:26SPEAKER_17: I've my mentality's changed a lot of things.
- 47:29SPEAKER_17: But yeah, I would definitely say I'm a different person in a better way.
- 47:31SPEAKER_17: We're still a good guy.
- 47:32SPEAKER_17: Still a good guy.
- 47:33SPEAKER_17: Always a good guy.
- 47:34SPEAKER_10: David Hobbs, thanks so much for the time.
- 47:35SPEAKER_10: Oh, by the way, what about your visit to Food City?
- 47:38SPEAKER_17: Oh, yeah.
- 47:39SPEAKER_17: That was fun.
- 47:40SPEAKER_17: Uh me and me and Kaylee, we had a section in the produce area.
- 47:44SPEAKER_17: So we was over there.
- 47:45SPEAKER_17: It was a good time.
- 47:46SPEAKER_17: They have a great produce section.
- 47:47SPEAKER_17: They do.
- 47:48SPEAKER_17: They're hooking us up with popcorn, some free samples.
- 47:50SPEAKER_17: Yeah, they took care of us.
- 47:52SPEAKER_10: But getting to be with the fans too.
- 47:53SPEAKER_10: Uh have you gotten used to people really knowing who you are in that way around East Tennessee?
- 47:58SPEAKER_17: I mean, not really.
- 48:00SPEAKER_17: I mean, it's always like we're walking around, someone asked for a picture, you know, it always puts a smile on my face, you know.
- 48:06SPEAKER_17: Seeing uh these kids, little kids that look up to you.
- 48:10SPEAKER_17: Kids on TikTok, Instagram always DMing me about something.
- 48:12SPEAKER_17: I'm just seeing that really puts a smile on my face because that's really like one of the reasons why we we like doing this, you know, just to be a positive influence for the community.
- 48:22SPEAKER_10: Alright, so what would you say, at least so far, is your pilot Nealand moment?
- 48:32SPEAKER_10: Oh my god.
- 48:33SPEAKER_10: What can you think of that one moment that jumps out when you think of Nealand Stadium?
- 48:38SPEAKER_17: And you.
- 48:39SPEAKER_17: Nealand Stadium, uh, I mean, running through that power tee.
- 48:45SPEAKER_17: That that when I think of Nealand, Game Day Saturday, running through the power T when we entered the field, the best, the best feeling.
- 48:53SPEAKER_17: Uh it's just the best moment, honestly.
- 48:55SPEAKER_17: It never gets old.
- 48:56SPEAKER_17: I could do that till the rest of my life, and I love every single time.
- 49:00SPEAKER_10: David Hops, thanks so much for the time.
- 49:01SPEAKER_17: Yes, sir.
- 49:02SPEAKER_10: Thank you for having me.
- 49:03SPEAKER_10: We're back with more on the Mike Keith Show delivered by Uber Eats right after this.

- 49:20SPEAKER_10: Each Friday, we present the big interview here on the Mike Keith Show.
- 49:25SPEAKER_10: If you've missed any of them, they're still available at the Tennessee Athletics YouTube channel.
- 49:31SPEAKER_10: And if you don't already subscribe to the Tennessee Athletics YouTube channel, you should do it now.
- 49:38SPEAKER_10: This Friday, the big interview is University of Tennessee President Randy Boyd.
- 49:43SPEAKER_10: We're excited about it.
- 49:45SPEAKER_10: So here's a preview.
- 49:46SPEAKER_10: Through your whole life, though, you have taken on new things at different points.
- 49:52SPEAKER_10: Buying the Knoxville smoking, building Covenant Health Park downtown Knoxville.
- 49:58SPEAKER_10: You're running.
- 49:59SPEAKER_10: That was not something you started doing right away.
- 50:02SPEAKER_10: I mean, you weren't a runner from the time you were 15 on.
- 50:05SPEAKER_12: Well, yeah, I ran on the cross-country team.
- 50:08SPEAKER_12: In high school, and on my 16th birthday, I ran from my home in South Knoxville to uh uh which was 31 miles.
- 50:14SPEAKER_12: So I kind of like keep challenging myself.
- 50:17SPEAKER_12: And I always had in my mind that I would do a marathon, but never really scheduled a time.
- 50:21SPEAKER_12: And then when I was 43 years old, decided I wanted to climb mountains.
- 50:25SPEAKER_12: So I climbed Mount Rainier, and that was gonna be a thing.
- 50:27SPEAKER_12: And at the end of climbing Mount Rainier, I feel like you know, I'm in the best shape I've ever been in in a really long time.
- 50:33SPEAKER_12: If I'm ever gonna run a marathon, this would be the time to do it.
- 50:35SPEAKER_12: They say if you run a marathon, you either run one or you run a bunch.
- 50:39SPEAKER_12: Nobody runs just two.
- 50:40SPEAKER_12: You either really like it or you hated it.
- 50:42SPEAKER_12: And I like it.
- 50:43SPEAKER_12: And uh I started um running a marathon every fall and climbing a mountain every winter, and then uh mountain climbing became a little dangerous, and my wife encouraged me to stop.
- 50:53SPEAKER_12: So I did, and uh and been running marathons ever since.
- 50:56SPEAKER_12: So I didn't really do my first marathon until I was 43.
- 50:59SPEAKER_12: And now I've done 57 fools, uh, 100 half.
- 51:03SPEAKER_12: I've done a marathon on every continent, including Antarctica and the seven majors, which is the seven biggest marathons in the world.
- 51:09SPEAKER_12: And I've done five of the seven majors twice.
- 51:11SPEAKER_12: So my next goal is just to do the seven majors uh two times.
- 51:15SPEAKER_12: So there's not that many people that have done that.
- 51:16SPEAKER_12: Next year I'm gonna do Tokyo and Australia, and then I'll make the seven majors.
- 51:20SPEAKER_12: Then I gotta come up with a new goal.
- 51:21SPEAKER_12: I'm not sure what that is yet, but we'll we're working on it.
- 51:23SPEAKER_12: So you go ahead and run every day about five days a week.
- 51:26SPEAKER_12: And every week.
- 51:27SPEAKER_12: And I found that it's easier just to stay in shape always to run a marathon than to drop down and come back up.
- 51:32SPEAKER_12: Back when I used to do a um mountain in the winter and um marathon in the fall, I would I had to start back up every summer, and it's just hard getting back up.
- 51:40SPEAKER_12: So now every week, for the last 20 years, my minimum uh distance of my long run will be like 12 to 13 miles.
- 51:48SPEAKER_10: Our entire big interview with University of Tennessee President Randy Boyd comes your way this Friday on the Mike Keith Show.
- 51:56SPEAKER_10: It's presented by Clayton Holmes, Oakwood Holmes, and Love Homes of Tennessee.
