- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: English teachers in high school and college often get a bad rap.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: It's too bad because English teachers are, by and large, really wonderful people, but students who did not do well in those classes sometimes blame teachers for killing their writing dreams.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Now, first of all, you should never give a teacher that much power over your life.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: And second of all, the skills to be successful as a writer don't really have much to do with what you learned in English class.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Nevertheless, some students look at their bad grades and wonder, am I cut out to be a writer?
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Well, I want to challenge this question because it assumes that you're either born a writer or you aren't.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: In reality, you aren't born anything.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: You can choose to be what you want to be.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: If you want to be a writer, it's completely within your power to do so.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Here are some wise words from author R.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: L.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Stein.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: People say, what advice do you have for people who want to be writers?
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: I say they don't really need advice.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: They know they want to be writers and they're going to do it.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Those people who know that they really want to do this and are cut out for it, they know it.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: In other words, what makes you cut out to be a writer is the fact that you choose to do this work.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: You don't need anybody putting their mantle on you or giving you some kind of approval.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: It's just something that you decide to do.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: So the only question that remains is, do you want to be cut out for it?
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: If so, you'll find a way to do it.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: I want to take a moment to let you know about our daily writer membership community.
