- 0:00Alright, ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another edition
- 0:03of the Take to Pod with Mom and Dad.
- 0:05I'm Dad. And I'm mom.
- 0:08And we are back for episode 12. It has been a busy couple weeks.
- 0:14Yes, we've we've been away for a couple weeks.
- 0:16It was Easter weekend, We were away for the weekend.
- 0:20We had just. Been away for only a few days,
- 0:22we've just been busy. Yeah.
- 0:24But those were the days that we typically would record on.
- 0:27So it did. It set us back a little bit, but
- 0:29we had a lot of fun. Yeah, a lot.
- 0:31Of kids got to be with their cousins, which was really sweet
- 0:33and really special. Yeah, they had a really good
- 0:36time. We had a really good.
- 0:37Time. Yeah, we did an egg hunt for the
- 0:38kids. 2 egg hunts actually. Yeah, it's been just very busy
- 0:42at home with work and everything.
- 0:45Kids are, you know, driving this up the wall.
- 0:48Today was rough. Today was rough.
- 0:52Because it was as rough as the movie we're about to do.
- 0:55Some some days you spend a day with your kids and you feel
- 0:58euphoric after because you had such a great day.
- 1:01Today was the exact opposite. Like once the kids were down, we
- 1:05were like fuck everything. Let's.
- 1:07Do. We literally went and we got
- 1:09some McDonald's, so we watched the rest of the movie.
- 1:12We were like, let's just turn off our brains and chill because
- 1:15fuck this, you know? It's bad.
- 1:17When I say should we have McDonald's, you're saying that
- 1:22you know it's bad. So.
- 1:24And I was like, bring, bring, bring the nuggies, bring a
- 1:27Mcflurry. Let's let's pick.
- 1:29Out a flyer, fish dress like a Mac.
- 1:32Let's pig out then to our podcast because it makes us feel
- 1:34better. So yeah, the kids are down.
- 1:38Let's do our podcast. Tonight's episode is not a huge
- 1:42surprise considering the last movie we did, but.
- 1:45Yeah, but this is the first time we've done something like this.
- 1:47That's true. We're doing back to backs.
- 1:50So tonight, let's do the drum roll, mom.
- 1:58OHP fuck I didn't come up with anything.
- 2:04Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.
- 2:07We are doing The Godfather Part 2 immediately following The
- 2:11Godfather Part 1 because honestly it should be 1 movie.
- 2:15Calling this a sequel is is criminal.
- 2:17These two movies deserve each other but honestly it's really
- 2:20long both of them. They should be like it should be
- 2:233 movies. Maybe it should be like a mini
- 2:26series or something. But anyways.
- 2:28Yeah, she was trying to make a point.
- 2:31Yeah, we we love Godfather one. We're like, you know what?
- 2:33Let's do this. Let's do the 2 movies
- 2:35back-to-back. You know, Godfather Part 2 is
- 2:39widely known as potentially the greatest sequel ever made.
- 2:43A lot of people argue that it's better than the original, but
- 2:46let's get into it. All right, let's do it.
- 2:48So Godfather Part 2. This synopsis goes Michael
- 2:52Corleones 1958 struggle to expand the family business while
- 2:55facing betrayal and flashbacks to a young Vito.
- 2:59Corleones rise from a Sicilian immigrant to a New York City
- 3:03mafia Don. While Vito builds an empire
- 3:05through respect, Michael loses his humanity and family,
- 3:10isolating himself through paranoia and ruthlessness.
- 3:13So accurate. That is very accurate and this
- 3:18movie is very, very different from the first one, but we'll
- 3:21get into that shortly. Directed by Francis Ford
- 3:25Coppola, again starring out Pacino Robert De Niro, this time
- 3:30as young Vito. Talia shires in it again as
- 3:33Connie and Michael V Gazzo as Frankie. 5 Angels.
- 3:38Hmm, yes I have. I have some thoughts on Frankie
- 3:405 Angels later. Yeah, this movie budget was $13
- 3:43million, and it did 90 million worldwide when it came out.
- 3:48So it did pretty well for the times.
- 3:50It made about 10 times its money.
- 3:53Was they got the deal for this when the first one?
- 3:57The first one wasn't even out. Yeah, yeah.
- 3:59Yeah, but I I'm assuming that this was highly anticipated
- 4:02after the first one. It was, it came out two years
- 4:05after, so it was almost like they were filmed back-to-back.
- 4:09You had Robert Deniro, who was cast as young Vito, Which.
- 4:13Was perfect casting. It was great.
- 4:15It was unbelievable. Except for his mouth.
- 4:19What supposedly happened that made his mouth like that?
- 4:22What do you mean? Like when he was older?
- 4:24Yeah. So there's one scene when they
- 4:28cuts back to the flashback when Vito grows the mustache after he
- 4:32kills Fanucci. He's wearing the prosthetic.
- 4:35They gave him the prosthetic in the mouth at that point.
- 4:37OHS, you can't tell. Yeah, it wasn't as intense as
- 4:40the Marlon Brando won in the first Godfather.
- 4:44Yeah, I think they were playing kind of different versions of
- 4:47Veto. Obviously once young and ones
- 4:48old, but I think they both put their own spin on the character.
- 4:51Yeah, it's, it's crazy how Robert De Niro is playing a
- 4:57younger version of a character that Marlon Brando's playing.
- 5:01It's very, very interesting. And he won an Oscar for it.
- 5:05He. Rightfully so.
- 5:06It won best supporting actor and it pissed off Al Pacino quite a
- 5:10bit because he's like, really, you guys stumble for two movies
- 5:14in a row like crazy. But he kind of, he kind of did
- 5:18it to himself with the with the Academy.
- 5:20Yeah, Al Pacino does deserve his flowers though, because this is
- 5:23another amazing performance by. Him.
- 5:25It's freaking unreal. So let's get into the first time
- 5:28you watched it. Do you recall the first time you
- 5:31watched them? I'm gonna go ahead and say it
- 5:33was with you. So you do recall, OK.
- 5:36I do. I definitely remember the first
- 5:38movie being on when I was a kid. I don't really remember the
- 5:42second one and I didn't even know what happens at all in the
- 5:47second one. Like I had an idea with the
- 5:48first one, but I watched the second one the full way through
- 5:51with you and I had no idea. I didn't know that young Vito
- 5:54was going to be in it. I didn't know the freaking crazy
- 5:58character arc between Kay and Michael's marriage.
- 6:02Like there's there were so many moving parts that I wasn't
- 6:05prepared for. So I was really shocked and kind
- 6:08of pleasantly surprised the first time I saw it because it
- 6:11really takes you on kind of a rollercoaster ride and it's very
- 6:14different from the first movie. Yeah, it's very different.
- 6:18The first time I watched this, well, it wasn't even in the full
- 6:22thing. We had a copy of this on VHS in
- 6:25the house, but it was only the second tape because it was split
- 6:28into two. So have you seen the second tape
- 6:29a bunch? I've seen the second table whole
- 6:31bunch of times and the second tape.
- 6:33Always it's it's so 90. It starts right after the
- 6:36intermission, so when Vito kills Don Fanucci, that's kind of
- 6:41where it starts. Honestly, now I'm thinking about
- 6:43it. The first half of the movie is
- 6:46very It's slow. It's much slower.
- 6:49Yeah, it definitely. Mostly it could be just if you
- 6:53watched the first Godfather and then watch Part 2 second tape,
- 6:57you kind of figure out what's happening for the most.
- 6:59Part everything happens after the intermission, but the
- 7:02beginning is important for laying the groundwork.
- 7:04Sure, for sure. But it is really funny that you
- 7:06watched the second table bunch of times with no context.
- 7:11Why is this a flashback like it didn't understand?
- 7:13Then you start seeing the characters names like they're
- 7:16they're referencing Veto Ohio. OK, I get it now.
- 7:20You know, you start to like put the pieces together.
- 7:23That's awesome though, because it's almost like a mental
- 7:26gymnastics that you had to do to understand the movie.
- 7:28Kids today, they'll never know. They're streaming, they
- 7:31struggle, they get the full. Movie.
- 7:33I never get it in full HD. We were like piercing together.
- 7:36Shitty. Like we had tape 2 in the house.
- 7:38Tape one, I didn't even know where it was.
- 7:41I didn't know we had it at all. It was just, I think it was
- 7:43borrowed. And maybe he's like, oh, just
- 7:45give me tape one or I don't know.
- 7:47That's awesome. So why do you like or hate this
- 7:52movie? Or love this movie even?
- 7:54I'm not going to say that I love it because I do actually like
- 7:57the first one better. This movie is just as good, but
- 8:02it's a lot more upsetting I would say.
- 8:05So you don't think it's better than the original?
- 8:07So it's not the greatest sequel of all time.
- 8:08You. Think I don't think it's better
- 8:10than the original. I think it's pretty much just as
- 8:13good, but I don't like it as much as the original.
- 8:16The original for me, there's a lot more of an innocence and
- 8:20purity to the character. It's a lot less depressing, to
- 8:23be honest. It's a fun.
- 8:25It's a more fun, happier movie. Yeah.
- 8:27And. The flashback, depressing,
- 8:31vetoes Young life. It's it's a kind of a breath of
- 8:33fresh air in the movie, but Michael's arc is sad and dark.
- 8:37The the flashbacks are like a kind of like an origin story and
- 8:42you see somebody at their lowest point moving up slowly and then
- 8:47yeah. But it also gives some levity
- 8:49and some light. Yeah, the movie would be really
- 8:52messed. Like so this original cut of
- 8:55this was apparently 4 hours or something and they're like you
- 8:59have two movies on your hands on your hands.
- 9:02And they did test audience like they, they showed it to test
- 9:06screenings and the audience was so confused because there was
- 9:09way more flashbacks and flash forwards and then they had to
- 9:13cut it down completely like a lot.
- 9:15So I think the flashbacks and flash forwards are the just the
- 9:19right amount and in this final version, but you you really see
- 9:25the darkness. It's like Ying and Yang almost.
- 9:28Well, critics argue that they don't like the amount of Vito
- 9:31flashbacks. They think it takes away from
- 9:34the Michael Corleone storyline. But like I was saying, the
- 9:37Michael Corleone storyline is so dark.
- 9:40We need to see like the veto flashback.
- 9:42Like, I know he's being a criminal, but it almost brings
- 9:44some innocence into the movie that it desperately needs.
- 9:48Yeah, I I agree with you. I think need that flashback of
- 9:52veto, but I kind of agree with people.
- 9:56I think it's anyway, I think it takes away from the movie a
- 10:00little bit, but so you like the first one better?
- 10:03I like the first one better, but I think they're both equally
- 10:05amazing films. Yeah, I agree.
- 10:08Godfather Part 2 is a great film.
- 10:12I really like the first one and it just shows because of how
- 10:16many times I've seen the first one versus the second one and a
- 10:19lot of people. The second-half of the second
- 10:21you've seen a lot. Sure, that's true, yeah.
- 10:24I'm gonna keep roasting you, but that looks so funny.
- 10:26My fault. It was also it's.
- 10:28Just so 90s I love. It it's hella 90s, so, you know,
- 10:32the second one is really good. It's just very, very dark.
- 10:36There's so many little nuances in the movie that is very
- 10:39different from it even like the, the, the, the filming style is
- 10:43the same, but the Italian culture has been washed away
- 10:47like in the opening scene. I disagree.
- 10:49No, no, let me, let me, let me give you my point here.
- 10:52So the opening scene, you have the flashback right to young
- 10:56Veto in Sicily. But after that you have you're
- 10:59at a party for, it's a, it's a party for Anthony Michael's sons
- 11:05Communion, first Communion. And there's music playing.
- 11:08There's a band that's a huge party.
- 11:10It's basically like the wedding scene in the first movie, but
- 11:13the wedding scene in the first movie.
- 11:14They're singing Italian music. There's You can argue that
- 11:18Michael Corleone has lost his culture, but we have a lot of
- 11:21Italian culture shown in the Vito storyline.
- 11:23No, for sure. But I'm talking about the
- 11:25Michael part. OK?
- 11:27So if I don't say veto part, I'm referring to the regular
- 11:30timeline. OK, so for the Michael Corleone
- 11:34timeline where he's in charge of the family now, the opening
- 11:38scene, you know the band can't play that Italian song.
- 11:43Professional musicians? There wasn't one Italian in the
- 11:46group here. Come on, let's have the calendar
- 11:50Bubble, bubble, bubble. Where are you?
- 12:00No. The guy, the senator, what's his
- 12:28name? Pat Geary.
- 12:29He can't even pronounce his name properly.
- 12:32But he says Vito. Vito Corleone.
- 12:35But later you find out he's just being a Dick because he can.
- 12:38He actually knows how to say his name.
- 12:40But you can see that there's quite a difference in the the
- 12:44the food. Even he's like Frank Pentangeli.
- 12:46He's complaining about the food being served.
- 12:48He's like, what the fuck is this?
- 12:50You know, there's champagne, There's no red wine.
- 12:52Like he's like, what's going? On Yeah, but he's he's a drunk
- 12:54asshole. But I think we are, we're we're
- 12:57seeing Michael trying to fit into this Waspy culture.
- 13:01Almost like when they're in Havana, they're introducing all
- 13:04these senators and governors and all this.
- 13:06Everyone's white. They're all like Waspy white
- 13:09males. Sure.
- 13:10I think this is kind of Michael trying to square up and become
- 13:13one of them. Yeah.
- 13:14And almost leaving his Italian culture behind to become.
- 13:18But that. Quote UN quote.
- 13:19Business that was that was the the little the fun part almost
- 13:23of the first movie. You had the Italian culture, you
- 13:26had the music, the the, the walls with the dad like you.
- 13:30All these little details, the cannoli part, like cannoli, like
- 13:33nothing is mentioned. The scene where Clemenza shows
- 13:37Michael how to make the sauce in the first movie.
- 13:39There's nothing like that in this.
- 13:41The only thing that brings you back to that old school Italian
- 13:44vibe is the flashbacks, which I think is like a different movie
- 13:48almost. And then Frank, Frank
- 13:50Pentangeli, where he he's like Morte Morte, like he wants
- 13:54blood. He's telling Michael and
- 13:56Michael's like, no, I have business with Hyman Roth.
- 13:59It cannot be disturbed. Well, you can almost argue that
- 14:02this is like a critique of being an immigrant and what happens
- 14:08when like Vito immigrates from from Italy.
- 14:11So he has a lot of Italian culture.
- 14:13Sure. His children, first generation,
- 14:15the first generation, they did not, they grew up in America.
- 14:17That's a good point. And then the next generation
- 14:19even more so, like the melting pot of America takes over and
- 14:23they just become more and more Americanized until they're
- 14:25Italian culture does get washed away.
- 14:27So it may actually be making a point.
- 14:29It might be a commentary on that.
- 14:31Yeah, there's, there's all these little details, right?
- 14:33That's like the music, the food, the the wine is mentioned.
- 14:37And then you have when they're having dinner right at that same
- 14:40party at in the evening, they say Chandana when they toast.
- 14:44And that means 100 years and couple of the wives are like,
- 14:48what does that mean? And then I'm like, if you've
- 14:51been married to them and you've been around them long enough,
- 14:55you think that you would know what that means?
- 14:57Well, it's Fredo's wife that asked that, and Fredo's wife is
- 15:00very problematic in this film. Yeah, she's a fucking nightmare.
- 15:03I missed her a few times. Poor guy, I know.
- 15:07Anyway, so you want to get into the segments.
- 15:10Yeah, let's do it. OK, so we start with our most
- 15:14awkward 1 The cringiest moment. What do you got?
- 15:18So I don't actually know if cringey is a right word for
- 15:21this, but I think it is like a problem in the storyline.
- 15:26OK, so the Havana assassin, OK, when Michael's bodyguard goes to
- 15:31kill Hyman Roth, this fucking guy takes six years to secure
- 15:36the hospital room. OK then he's awkwardly standing
- 15:40beside the bed with a pillow and then gets killed.
- 15:43Also, he's really old. Yeah, he's really old too.
- 15:47He kills Johnny. Johnny Ola.
- 15:50Johnny Ola quickly and exits the room swiftly, like he's a pro
- 15:54and then this one, he's like blundering around like he's
- 15:58supposed to be a pro. It should be quick.
- 16:00You should sneak in, slit the guy's throat and leave.
- 16:02Maybe cause he's really old, like he used all his energy on
- 16:06Johnny Ola by strangling him with the the coat hanger and
- 16:09then he's just like fuck I'm tired.
- 16:10No, I feel like it's. Taking vitamins that.
- 16:12Day I feel like it's honestly bad storytelling.
- 16:14They need him to get killed because Hyman Roth can't die yet
- 16:17and they're like, OK, we need to make it so that he like, messes
- 16:21up. Instead of messing up, he just
- 16:23takes six years. Like why couldn't he just have
- 16:24tried to kill him and failed? Maybe.
- 16:26I mean, he was being extra careful.
- 16:28It kind of did build suspense. It builds, spends, but he's
- 16:31standing there with a pillow, like the guy is helpless in a
- 16:34hospital. But you could easily just, like,
- 16:36slip a knife into his neck. Yeah.
- 16:38And then it's done in 2 seconds. You walk away, nobody knows it
- 16:41was you. I think they were trying to make
- 16:42he's trying to like smother him with a pillow to make it look
- 16:45like he died of natural causes. Yeah, but that was that was a
- 16:48poor plan and it would have taken longer than just letting
- 16:50the guys throat. That's an interesting one.
- 16:52I my cringiest moment is it's the scene that made me cringe
- 16:57the most and it's one of the most powerful scenes in film
- 17:01ever. And it's the IT was an abortion
- 17:04scene. Michael, you say you love me and
- 17:06then you talk about allowing me to leave.
- 17:09Things that have been going on for years between men and women
- 17:12will not become. Blind mind.
- 17:15Look. Look what's happened to us,
- 17:16Mike. My God, Look what's happened to
- 17:18our son Michael. Help me.
- 17:23I don't wanna hear about. It you will.
- 17:25I don't wanna hear about it. I don't wanna hear about it.
- 17:28I don't wanna hear about it. That scene is not cringy, but.
- 17:32It's no, it made me cringe. It was very uncomfortable.
- 17:34To watch. I could see how actually.
- 17:36Yeah, it's not cringy. Like I felt like I was in the
- 17:39room with a fighting couple and I needed to get the fuck out,
- 17:43but I couldn't because the door was locked or it was just, it's
- 17:47inappropriate for you to leave, but it's also inappropriate for
- 17:49you to be in the room. That scene, like I was watching
- 17:52that and I needed, like, I needed to take a walk after that
- 17:55and drink some cold water. It was really, really heavy.
- 17:59Like heavy. It's, it's shocking.
- 18:01It's shocking. I do have stuff to say about
- 18:04that scene later. But it's well acted scene, well,
- 18:06well written scene. But Oh my God.
- 18:09Well, we'll talk about it in detail later.
- 18:10But that scene like, Oh my God, like this is depressing.
- 18:13Like if that if that clip, that scene was playing and you were
- 18:17playing it loud and somebody else was in the house or like in
- 18:20another room, they'd be like, is everything alright down there?
- 18:24Like are you guys OK? Well.
- 18:26You can hear them like you can hear in the hallway.
- 18:29It flashes to the hallway with the kids.
- 18:30You can hear them screaming at each.
- 18:31Other No, I know that if that scene just playing in someone's
- 18:34like if I crank that scene up in an apartment, people next door
- 18:38would be like, yo, I think they're fucking going to kill
- 18:41each. Other so they called.
- 18:43Yeah, if they didn't know the movies, they called the police
- 18:45and be like, are you guys OK? It's true, It's true.
- 18:49Yeah. It's it's not a cringey scene.
- 18:50The acting is really good but I can see how it could make you
- 18:53cringe, cringe, disturbed and. In a good way, like it was so
- 18:56well acted it was very hard to find uncomfortable.
- 19:00Stupid cringe scene in this movie for me.
- 19:03That there isn't 1. Honestly, it's very well done.
- 19:06I thought you were gonna say the Fredo scene where he's where
- 19:09he's like laying back in the chair and he's like, I got
- 19:12stepped over Mike. I thought you were gonna say
- 19:14that because I kind of it's a little bit.
- 19:16Crunchy, your Big Brother Mike and I got stepped over.
- 19:19It's not how I wanted it. Yeah, it's because he's weak.
- 19:22That's why he's like, everybody thinks I'm stupid.
- 19:25It's like, no bro, you're just not scary.
- 19:28Alfredo in this movie. Yeah, we'll talk about friendly.
- 19:31Very I have some feelings for Fredo in this movie.
- 19:35Pause. So most iconic scene or moment.
- 19:39So Vita walking down the New York City street with the
- 19:43creative groceries on his shoulder.
- 19:45Oh, yeah. It's such a vibe, the music, the
- 19:49atmosphere. Like that set is incredible.
- 19:52Millions of dollars clearly just for that set because it's old
- 19:56time New York and it just has such like it.
- 19:59It just feels. It feels so authentic.
- 20:02Yeah, that's a perfect. Word from the last podcast about
- 20:05Godfather Part 1. I mentioned that if you go on
- 20:08YouTube, you'll find restored old footage of old New York from
- 20:13those times from the 20s cause there's look just like that and
- 20:16it looks exactly like. That yeah, it's really.
- 20:19Really freaky. The scenery is so incredibly
- 20:22well done in this movie it's wild.
- 20:23I actually read somewhere that in the veto flashbacks a lot of
- 20:28the men were wearing zippers and then a PA pointed out the
- 20:31zippers were not invented yet at that time and they reshot all
- 20:34the scenes with button trousers. Like that's how authentic they
- 20:37wanted to be. The YK empire hadn't started
- 20:40yet. What's that?
- 20:42You never look at the zipper, your jacket, they all say YK.
- 20:46Oh no, this. Is 1 company guy?
- 20:48That makes all the zippers. Yeah, it's freaky.
- 20:50The metal and plastic. Pretty.
- 20:52I think they account for like 90% of the world zippers.
- 20:56Oh yeah? Well, the zipper was not
- 20:58invented. Yet how do you not know that
- 21:00you've had zippers your whole? Life.
- 21:01I've never. I don't know.
- 21:02I've never. Looked at your zipper.
- 21:05What's wrong with you? Look at your zippers.
- 21:08I've broken a lot of. Zippers in my day.
- 21:10And then you look at it and go, who made this piece of shit?
- 21:12And you go, oh, it's white, OK. Yeah, they should improve the
- 21:15zipper. It's an old, it's an
- 21:16old-fashioned design. It works.
- 21:18Another scene I like is where Vito kills the Black Hand.
- 21:24First of all, that whole scene is amazing.
- 21:26Yeah, it's fucking really. Good.
- 21:28It's it's, it's intense, it's calculated, it's the, the
- 21:32tension really grows. From the moment he gives him the
- 21:34cash, right? Yeah, yeah.
- 21:35And the cafe. And then after he kills him, he
- 21:37goes up onto the roof and it's like the New York City skyline
- 21:40behind him, and he's disposing of the guns in different
- 21:43chimneys. It doesn't it feel like real,
- 21:46like authentic when he's on? That does it feels like he's got
- 21:50to get rid of the evidence, he's got to get out of there, He's
- 21:52got to protect himself. And I really like that scene
- 21:55just because it's long, but it's it's very meaningful and it
- 21:59really shows veto like kind of turning to the dark side but
- 22:03being very calculated about it. When I went to New York and that
- 22:07hotel I stayed at, when I looked out the window, there was a
- 22:10building just like that across the street, old timey, probably
- 22:14worth millions of dollars, but it's just a shit hole and it
- 22:18just reminded me of the movie. It's very freaky.
- 22:21There's still buildings like that.
- 22:22Yeah, they still have like the very old buildings in New York,
- 22:24and you can definitely get that that atmosphere and vibe from
- 22:28it. And then my last scene is the
- 22:30scene where Vito gets his revenge on Don Chicho and he
- 22:34slashes his stomach. Open.
- 22:36It's so satisfying to see his father, brother and mother
- 22:40avenged. Crazy.
- 22:41He's he kills him and he just like looks at him with hatred
- 22:45and it, it feels, it feels good. That kid's been through some
- 22:49shit like that. First been through some shit
- 22:51opening scene. Oh my God.
- 22:53Just like people just dying left, right, centre.
- 22:55Well, the Don was right. He's like, you're gonna become
- 22:59this guy. This child is going to become a
- 23:00man and he's going to seek revenge.
- 23:02He did. Yeah, he's a child now, he said.
- 23:04But he's gonna. This child will grow.
- 23:05Up. And he did.
- 23:06He grew up and he's he. He got, he got his.
- 23:08Yes. Give him the idea, pretty much.
- 23:10He didn't need to be given that idea.
- 23:11Yeah, he lost his whole family that day.
- 23:13It's really sad. It's crazy.
- 23:15So what's your most iconic out of the?
- 23:17Three most iconic scenes, probably Vito walking down the
- 23:21New York street just because it gives you like such interesting
- 23:24shot of the scenery and it sets the atmosphere for the
- 23:28flashbacks. OK, those are really good picks.
- 23:31It's a tough one to pick in this movie.
- 23:34I have some nominees, but even the one where Michael's meeting
- 23:38Senator Pat Geary in his office, that opening like the first few
- 23:43minutes of the movie and he's talking to him and Pat Geary is
- 23:46just insulting him in front of everybody.
- 23:49Well, you know he's going to. That guy's going to get fucked.
- 23:51Yeah. You can't talk to Michael
- 23:53Corleone like that. I don't care who you are.
- 23:55Well the crazy part is the guy survives usually in the old
- 24:00movies like in the old. Times I thought for sure he was
- 24:02gonna kill him, but he does need him to get his gaming license.
- 24:06He needs somebody. Yeah, exactly.
- 24:08So it's better to have somebody that you know you can control
- 24:12than have somebody a loose. Cannon so I've got here Most
- 24:17iconic scenes or moments for me nominee would be Fredo being
- 24:20executed. That whole sequence, it's so
- 24:23depressing and sad. Anthony, he's here.
- 24:29We're going fishing. No.
- 24:31Michael wants to take him to Reno now.
- 24:38OK, kid, you gotta go to Reno with your pop.
- 24:42Come on, Anthony. I'll thank you friend again
- 24:44tomorrow, OK boy you Anthony. Listen.
- 24:53I'll catch one for you with the secret, right?
- 24:59OK. You know it's coming every time
- 25:02you watch this movie. You know it's coming, but you're
- 25:04like, come on, man. Just let it go.
- 25:07Just let him go. He's fishing with your sucking
- 25:10asshole. He never lets anything go.
- 25:12Who? Michael, Michael, that's your
- 25:14brother. You go into your mother's
- 25:16funeral and you hug him. Like just let it fucking go.
- 25:19His sisters like forgive him for.
- 25:21Connie said I forgave you, just just let it go.
- 25:23Forgive him and he won't. He won't do.
- 25:25It so. He's a bad person.
- 25:28Yeah, it's it's quite the arc for Michael in this movie, but.
- 25:32No, he doesn't have an art. No, no, from from the first
- 25:35movie to now. OK, but in this movie, he's
- 25:38eventually he starts out as a vengeful asshole and he ends out
- 25:41as a vengeful asshole. He he absolutely has no growth
- 25:43throughout. The movies, there's no growth,
- 25:45but there's a change and I'll talk about where.
- 25:47That yeah, he becomes worse. No, I don't.
- 25:51Michael, why are the drapes open?
- 25:53That is a crazy scene. Oh my God, do you like feel the
- 25:56tension comes? Honestly, everybody at the end
- 25:59of the night, whether you're single or a couple or whatever,
- 26:03you get into your bedroom after a long day, you taking off your
- 26:06shoes, you're whatever, you're getting into your, you know,
- 26:09your pajamas and it's your safe zone.
- 26:12Your bedroom, it's quiet. You know, you're just kind of
- 26:15winding down. And where the drips open.
- 26:37The friggin shooting starts happening right because he spots
- 26:39the. Shooters pregnant in that bed.
- 26:43Yeah. Like fuck off.
- 26:45Anyway, so my most iconic is when Michael tells Fredo that he
- 26:50doesn't want to see him anymore. When he tells him that when you
- 26:54visit our mother, I want to know a day in advance.
- 26:57So I I'm not there. It's a very heavy, difficult
- 27:01scene to watch, but it's such a good scene in terms of who this
- 27:05guy has become, what he's willing to let go of like direct
- 27:09family when he was all about his family.
- 27:12And now he's basically cutting off somebody from his family and
- 27:16his last living brother other than Tom Hagan, who's not blood.
- 27:20And then the acting on both ends.
- 27:23Taking care of me. You're my kid brother.
- 27:27You take care of me. You have to think about that.
- 27:31You have a once think about that.
- 27:35So Fredo off to do this. Same Fredo off to do that that
- 27:40fatal take care of some Mickey Mouse nightclub somewhere.
- 27:44So afraid I want to pick somebody up at the airport.
- 27:47I'm your older brother Mike, and I was stepped over the way I
- 27:52want it. I can handle things.
- 27:56I'm smart. I'm like everybody says, like
- 28:00dumb. I'm smart and I want to spend.
- 28:03Is phenomenal. It's really good.
- 28:05Do you? Do you think Fredo was telling
- 28:07the truth when he said he didn't know it was gonna be a hit?
- 28:10I'm gonna talk about that later. I'm.
- 28:12Gonna leave. Suspense.
- 28:13Because he says I was mad at you, Michael.
- 28:15Some theories. Like how mad was.
- 28:17He talk about it OK, but yeah, that's my most iconic one.
- 28:21There's so many great ones, like even you said Don Fanucci
- 28:24getting killed. Oh fuck, it's so good.
- 28:26But the one that I think is very telling of where this person,
- 28:31Michael Corleone has come to like how far he's gone, is that
- 28:34scene or he's just like telling his blood brother, I don't wanna
- 28:39see you anymore, which is really.
- 28:41Yeah. It's something else.
- 28:43Yeah. OK, let's get into quotes.
- 28:45OK, So I have Michael Corleone. Come on, Frankie.
- 28:49My father did business with Hyman Roth.
- 28:50He respected Hyman Roth. Can I do Frank's part?
- 28:53Yeah, go ahead. Your father did business with
- 28:55Hyman Ross. He respected Hyman Ross, but he
- 28:59never trusted Hyman Ross. I love that quote, it's so good
- 29:03and he's absolutely right. Yeah.
- 29:07You can do business with him, but he's a snake.
- 29:09Hyman Roth. Hyman Roth, he's a snake and
- 29:12he's out to get Michael for this entire movie.
- 29:14He's been dying of the same illness for 20.
- 29:16Years. The same heart attack for 20
- 29:17years, Michael Corleone says. I don't feel I have to wipe
- 29:22everybody out, Tom, just my enemies.
- 29:25Yeah, that's a that's a scary, that's an uncomfortable scene
- 29:29because he's he's he's antagonizing Tom Hagan,
- 29:32basically. I have something on that later
- 29:35and we'll talk about that later. But yeah, that scene is is very
- 29:38heavy. I have Michael.
- 29:41My father taught me many things. He taught me in this room.
- 29:45He taught me. Keep your friends close.
- 29:48But your enemies close. I wonder if that was like a real
- 29:53saying before it was in this movie.
- 29:55I'm not sure cause it's your friends close but your enemies
- 29:59closer. It's a very common saying now.
- 30:00Like I wonder if it really. If this movie popularized.
- 30:04It yeah, it's possible because he says it as if it's not
- 30:07something. He says it as if it's not a
- 30:09common turn of phrase. Yeah, I'm going to just go ahead
- 30:11and say it. This movie made popularized it.
- 30:15You heard it here ladies and gentlemen to the next week as to
- 30:19why this popularized. Keep your friends close but your
- 30:22enemies closer same time. Just in infallible logic there,
- 30:26we're just gonna say yes. And then my last quote is, oh,
- 30:31Michael, Michael, you are blind. It wasn't a miscarriage.
- 30:34It was an abortion. And abortion, Michael, just like
- 30:38our marriage is an abortion, something that's unholy and
- 30:42evil. I don't want your son, Michael.
- 30:44I wouldn't bring another one of your sons into this world.
- 30:47It was an abortion, Michael. It was a son, Michael, a son.
- 30:52And I had it killed because this must all end.
- 30:56Wow, Bravo, that is, yeah. Did you get chills?
- 31:02Honestly, it doesn't matter who says it or in what context.
- 31:06Those lines are very, very impactful.
- 31:10She just wanted to hurt. Savage.
- 31:12Oh my. God, it's bad enough that she
- 31:14did it. She wanted to tell.
- 31:15Him, his guts at that point. She wanted to tell him because
- 31:18she wanted to hurt. Him.
- 31:19No, she said. I did something that you'd never
- 31:22forgive me. Because I knew you could.
- 31:25Never forget. Exactly.
- 31:26He and he's like, she's like, you'll never forgive me.
- 31:29So he will definitely leave her. That's that's basically it.
- 31:33Yeah. Because he was like willing to
- 31:34make it work before that. He's like I can change.
- 31:37Well, I have some stuff on that later, but she should have just
- 31:40worked it out with him honestly. Oh, OK.
- 31:43What else do you? Have those are all my quotes.
- 31:45OK, I've got a few here. If anything, this life is
- 31:48certain. If history has taught us
- 31:50anything, it's that you can kill anyone.
- 31:53And I think about a year or you after this, there was an attempt
- 31:57on President Gerald Ford. There was an attempt on Donald
- 32:01Trump. Well, there's been attempts.
- 32:03I've been attempts on almost every president Reagan, Kennedy
- 32:06was killed, but that was in six. Julius Caesar was killed.
- 32:10You can go back all the way back to Roman Empire.
- 32:12Exactly so. Doesn't matter who you are, how
- 32:14high up Jesus was killed, doesn't matter who you are, you
- 32:17can kill all these people. There's a deep cut OK is.
- 32:29I know it was you, Fredo. You broke my heart.
- 32:34You. Block my heart.
- 32:37Well, that's an intense. Scene he kisses in the kiss of
- 32:39death. Fredo, you're nothing to me now.
- 32:43You're not a brother. You're not a friend.
- 32:46I don't wanna know you or what you do.
- 32:49Like I said, very. Heavy really coming down on
- 32:51Alfredo. In my home, in my bedroom, where
- 32:57my wife sleeps, where my children come to play with their
- 33:01toys. In my home.
- 33:05He does get, really. Quiet.
- 33:06Yeah. I think this is like the the
- 33:08first movie where Pacino does the sudden boom volume increase
- 33:13on his voice because it becomes a staple of his, you know, in
- 33:16movies. And I quoted it, the last one
- 33:18from Heat. He's like she's got a great ass
- 33:22who are who are from son of a woman.
- 33:25It's. Yeah, it's so drastically.
- 33:28Different. It's just like, I don't know
- 33:29where volumes up. You got tits, you need a bra.
- 33:33They got hair on them, Scarface. You.
- 33:37Find my sister in the toilet. OK, that is Scarface.
- 33:41Yeah, I'm just saying he it's in other movies too.
- 33:43He does the sudden volume increase volume.
- 33:46Wrap it up with the quotes. Fredo arguing with Michael.
- 33:49I'm your older brother, Mike, and I was stepped over.
- 33:53That's the way Pop wanted it. It ain't the way I wanted it.
- 33:56I could handle things. I'm smart.
- 33:58Not like everybody says, like dumb.
- 34:00I'm smart and I want respect. Honestly, there's a little bit
- 34:03of overacting in that scene. I don't think so.
- 34:06I think it was Fredo at the in Havana.
- 34:09How do you say banana daiquiri? My banana daiquiri really funny
- 34:15scene Unintentional unintentional comedy for.
- 34:18Sure. It's so typical of like, white
- 34:20people when they go yeah to vacation in Spanish countries
- 34:24like Hola, gracias, banana daiquiri.
- 34:30Michael finding out that Kay had a quote UN quote miscarriage.
- 34:35Was it a boy? Mikey, after 3 1/2 months, what
- 34:38can't you give me a straight answer anymore?
- 34:40Was it a boy? How did she even know it was a
- 34:43boy? After three months, you wouldn't
- 34:44know. I don't think she did.
- 34:46I think she just was saying it. He's like, does it feel like a
- 34:49boy at the beginning when she's dancing?
- 34:52Yes. And she said yes.
- 34:53She said it feels like a. Boy, it feels like a boy.
- 34:55I've had a boy and a girl and well, honestly, my.
- 34:58Parents are quite. Pregnant.
- 35:00My pregnancy with the boy was a lot easier, so maybe she was
- 35:03like, oh, I'm not vomiting my guts out, it's a boy.
- 35:06I'm not all over the fucking place emotionally.
- 35:10It must be a. Boy, I'm not borderline
- 35:12suicidal. Yeah, it's a boy.
- 35:15We got Frankie 5 angels. When he's done arguing with
- 35:18Michael at the beginning, he's like Cheech abort.
- 35:22He tells them to get the door. Really cool.
- 35:25And because it's an Italian too. And then I got one from Hyman
- 35:29Roth here when he's talking about Moe Green getting killed.
- 35:33I didn't ask who gave the order because it had nothing to do
- 35:38with business. And then one flashback 1 here.
- 35:41Sorry. When Vito tells their landlord
- 35:44to keep the old lady in and yeah and her dog and he comes back
- 35:48and gives the money. He's like daughter and stays the
- 35:50same as before. I just love that line delivery,
- 35:54it's really good. That guy was actually a
- 35:56comedian. He's a comedian.
- 35:58Yeah, ohe should. That's why his like his scene.
- 36:00It's kind of funny. It's a little comical.
- 36:02Yeah, it's a little comical. And they liked that about him.
- 36:04He's like you, you Sicilian. He's like I'm Calabrese.
- 36:07He's like we're practically by zans.
- 36:10And then when Connie brings that weird like I guess gold digger
- 36:14guy to the the communion and she tells them moral we need money
- 36:19and morals, like can I get a drink or something?
- 36:21Like what a fucking loser. Do you know who you're dealing
- 36:24with? And then Michael just looks at
- 36:26him and looks at her. Actually, it doesn't even look
- 36:29at it doesn't even knowledge the guy.
- 36:30He just looks at Connie in front of this guy savagely.
- 36:32Could I have a drink or something?
- 36:36OK, boy. How would you please get him a
- 36:39drink? We're going to Europe next week.
- 36:44I'd like to book passage on the Queen.
- 36:46So what do you come to me for? Why don't you go to a travel
- 36:48agent? We're getting married first.
- 36:52The ink on your divorce isn't dry yet and you're getting
- 36:54married. You see your children on
- 36:59weekends. You know your oldest boy,
- 37:02Victor, was picked up in Reno for some petty theft.
- 37:04You don't even know about Michael.
- 37:06You fly around the world with men who don't care for you,
- 37:08usually like a whore. You're not my.
- 37:10Father, why do you come to me for?
- 37:12Money, money. I don't know this Merrill.
- 37:17I don't know what he does. I don't know what he lives on.
- 37:22Why don't you tell? A marriage is out of the
- 37:24question and you don't want to see him anymore.
- 37:28He'll understand, believe me. I don't know this Merle.
- 37:32I don't know what he lives on now.
- 37:35Why don't you tell him marriage is out of the question and you
- 37:38don't want to see him anymore? Like, just like that and.
- 37:41Well, he obviously lives on nothing because Connie's they're
- 37:43asking for money. So we're all kind of is a loser.
- 37:46What? What do you think Merle does?
- 37:48Merle, I don't know. He sells insurance.
- 37:50Could be a druggie for all we know.
- 37:52He doesn't have enough money to support them so.
- 37:55Yeah, also low-key cringe. Honorable mention is when he
- 37:58kisses Mama Corleone and her face is just like like hey Mama
- 38:03actually gives her a kiss and she's like get this fucker away
- 38:06from me, alright, I'm done. Takes a nap.
- 38:13Alright, moving on to the next segment.
- 38:15Classic or cancelled? Oht fuck, let me go first.
- 38:20OK. OK, so this movie is obviously a
- 38:24classic. It's known as one of the
- 38:26greatest movies. Sleek sequels.
- 38:28Goes without saying however, Michael has a girl at the
- 38:33brothel murdered so he can gain leverage against Senator Pat
- 38:38Geary. He basically drugs them both.
- 38:41Has them both drugged like Bill Cosby.
- 38:46You know it gives them the guy wakes up, doesn't remember.
- 38:48She's an innocent. He misses Yeah, I mean, she's
- 38:51she's a sex worker, but he murders a just an innocent girl.
- 38:55And then Tom Higgins, like he shows that he's just like these
- 38:59guys. He's fucking diabolical.
- 39:01He's like nobody's going to remember this girl.
- 39:03She it'll be like she never. Existed.
- 39:05She has no family. Nobody knows she worked here
- 39:06like Tom. That's that's a fucking person.
- 39:09Jesus Christ. That's a character arc in this
- 39:11one for sure. Tom Hagan.
- 39:13This guy turns a new leaf in a bad way.
- 39:16This movie I have I have some thoughts on Tom later, but yeah,
- 39:19that that is a dark. So yeah, that that for me is
- 39:21like the way that she's drugged, he's drugged and then just they
- 39:25just fucking kill her, like just to gain leverage.
- 39:28Crazy. Yeah, that's that's really
- 39:30fucked up. Go ahead.
- 39:32So much like the first movie, misogyny runs rampant in this
- 39:37film. The patriarchy.
- 39:39First of all, the female characters in the movie are
- 39:42barely in it. Connie's barely in it.
- 39:44Kay is barely in it. The women in the film tend to be
- 39:49treated like children. In cases like Kay and Mama
- 39:53Corleone, they're not really treated like partners to their
- 39:56husbands. They're more treated like
- 39:57children because their husbands consistently lie to them and
- 40:00hide things from them. Yeah, in the case of Kay,
- 40:03Michael lies to her about killing Carlo.
- 40:06She's very upset about it, and he flat out lies her the way you
- 40:08would a child. He lies about the family
- 40:12becoming legit. She brings it up at the
- 40:14beginning of the movie. They never become legit.
- 40:17Yeah, he's trying though. He and Tom hold her captive on
- 40:20the compound, grounding her there like a kid, and then
- 40:24similarly in the flashbacks with Vito and Mama Corleone and Young
- 40:29in their marriage when Vito gets past the package by through the
- 40:34window. Yeah, Clemenza, Young Clemenza.
- 40:36Yeah, young Clemenza passes him a package video, hides in the
- 40:39bathroom and closes the door before opening the bag of guns.
- 40:44Why no one else is there except your wife.
- 40:47You're both adults. Well, he knows.
- 40:50He he kind of knows and doesn't know what's going to be in the
- 40:53bag. He doesn't want his wife to see.
- 40:55What happens if she sees it? She's like, she's an adult.
- 40:58Well, she's not a kid. She can see what's in the bag.
- 41:01And then on top of that, he doesn't tell her when he loses
- 41:04his job. He brings a pair home for her as
- 41:07a treat, like you would a kid. Doesn't want to upset her.
- 41:11Yeah. Like, though that scene is
- 41:13sweet. It's.
- 41:14Going to say it's one of the best, sweetest scenes in the.
- 41:17Movie. It's very sweet, but it's not
- 41:18good communication between a husband and a wife.
- 41:20And I know I'm looking at this from a standpoint of modern
- 41:24marriage. Yeah, you are severely.
- 41:26Partners are supposed to support each other and go through trials
- 41:28and and stuff together but he doesn't even tell her.
- 41:31But do you know how like he doesn't tell you're not supposed
- 41:35to. She's at home with the kids.
- 41:37The the role of a man. But it's almost like she's in
- 41:40another kid to him. He doesn't think of her as an
- 41:42adult. So I agree with some of the
- 41:44things you're saying. The misogyny part to some
- 41:46degrees, but that's the characters.
- 41:49It's about the mob. It's not about what happens.
- 41:52It's not called the real Desperate Housewives of the Mob.
- 41:56You know what I'm saying? I understand.
- 41:58But like movie about mobsters to kill people.
- 42:00The reason his marriage with Kay failed because he wasn't
- 42:03treating her as an equal or a partner.
- 42:05Of course not. He's a fucking gangster whose
- 42:08main priority is who do I kill to keep power?
- 42:13Yeah, but he is in love with her and if he had wanted to keep
- 42:15their marriage going, he could have treated.
- 42:17Her with more respect, but the part about, you know, young Vito
- 42:21not showing his wife the guns, he doesn't know.
- 42:23If you look at the scene again, he looks at the guns in the tub
- 42:26and he's his hands on his chin. He doesn't know what to do.
- 42:30He's he's stuck between a rock and a hard place.
- 42:32He's like, do I help this guy? Do I not?
- 42:36What happens if I don't? Does he come after my wife?
- 42:39A lot of people would speak to their trusted wife about it.
- 42:42What should I do? No, you don't in those days and
- 42:44you get fucking fired. You don't come home and tell
- 42:46your wife you go find another job because you don't want them
- 42:49to. You don't want to be known as
- 42:51the guy who can't provide. That's the problem.
- 42:54I mean, it is an old school. It is saying, so I can kind of
- 42:58understand that. But he's being the movie is very
- 43:00misogynistic. I mean, whatever if you wanna
- 43:03look at it, Michael. Demands Connie, not Mary Merle
- 43:06Fredo. Fredo talks about how he can't
- 43:08control his. Wife treats Tom Higgins like a
- 43:11fucking piece of shit. OK, He's a man.
- 43:13But Fredo also talks about how he can't control his wife.
- 43:15Your control, Your wife sounded dog.
- 43:17His wife's a fucking lunatic. Yeah, she's making out with a
- 43:20guy on the dance floor at a communion party.
- 43:23She is and she is out of control.
- 43:25But you're not supposed to control a wife.
- 43:27You're supposed to be equal partners with a wife.
- 43:29So that's a little, that's a little bit bullshit.
- 43:32That's a fucking read. You're talking about Fredo's
- 43:35wife. Listen if somebody.
- 43:37Needless to. Say, listen, if you were acting
- 43:39a fool at a party and you were wasted, I would have to fucking
- 43:43take control of the situation. Whether you call it misogynistic
- 43:47or not. I'm not going to go up to a
- 43:48drunk person and be like, could you just like keep it down?
- 43:52OK, whatever, maybe that's a stretch, but there is a lot of
- 43:55misogyny in this. Movie You tell me if this is
- 43:57misogyny. Do you remember when we went to
- 44:00your brother's wedding in Dominican and there was a
- 44:03certain individual who was fucking wasted and throwing
- 44:06glasses of wine at people and screaming at me and calling me a
- 44:15racist even though I was only non white person at that?
- 44:19Function shoes. Shoes.
- 44:20Because I made a joke about the currency.
- 44:23What happened? Did she was put in control by
- 44:27her partner? Yes, because she was a fucking
- 44:29lunatic. I thought he didn't, I thought.
- 44:32She no, he grabbed her and manhandled her and I'm going to
- 44:35use that term. He manhandled her to her hotel
- 44:38room and put her to bed because she was trashed and she was
- 44:42fucking basically throwing weaponizing glasses.
- 44:46The security of the hotel had come.
- 44:49So don't talk about misogyny. That's not misogyny.
- 44:51That's somebody who's fucking nuts at the moment.
- 44:54Fredo's wife. That's maybe a bad example, but
- 44:57the rest of it, it's it's it's. Pretty young Vito bringing the
- 45:01pair to his wife. It's showing that he's gonna
- 45:04take care of it. You don't let her stress.
- 45:06You don't let her worry. That's the, you know, like a lot
- 45:09of women, like they want the chivalry.
- 45:12And then when they do the chivalry, you call it misogyny.
- 45:15Like you can't have it both ways.
- 45:17I just think he could have said I lost my job, but I'm going to
- 45:20go and get another job. We're going to be OK.
- 45:22That's all you have to. Say, but that's to bring her in.
- 45:24She's like, my wife's not gonna worry cause I'm gonna tell.
- 45:27I'm not gonna tell her and I'm not even going to give her a
- 45:30moment to worry. I'm going to come home.
- 45:32We're going to eat dinner. That's fucking, that's, that's
- 45:34real manly. That's that's old school, man.
- 45:37Fair enough. In the day that was fine, but
- 45:39I'm just saying in today's day, you know?
- 45:42In today's day, I mean, it's a different world, but a lot of
- 45:45men would still not tell their wife.
- 45:47They would go and pretend that they work, and then they would
- 45:50go find another. Job so dishonest.
- 45:54Well, there's shame, there's embarrassments.
- 45:57Like it's not about being misogynistic.
- 45:59It's about. Self.
- 46:00I'm just saying I value once. I value honesty.
- 46:02For sure, but it's about self worth for the man.
- 46:05You don't feel like a man if you cannot.
- 46:07Prove that doesn't mean you have to lie.
- 46:09No, but you don't feel like a man if you cannot provide.
- 46:12Fair enough. And you don't want your family
- 46:14to feel like you cannot provide. Fair enough, but it's not about
- 46:18you have to tell people what's going on, alright?
- 46:21You can't just keep them in the dark.
- 46:22But the freedom wife thing, that's a fucking.
- 46:24Reach. OK, maybe that was a bit, maybe
- 46:25that was a bit far. Let's move on to party like it's
- 46:302026. OK, I can't believe you went for
- 46:33the freedom life thing. I'm like, yeah, well, just cause
- 46:36like crazy. Just cause he says I can't
- 46:37control a mic. Yeah it sound like you don't
- 46:40need to control her. You need to maybe pick a better
- 46:43partner. Yeah, if you're going to be in
- 46:45these scenarios with a drunk asshole.
- 46:47The patriarchies fault. Party like it's 2026, so I think
- 46:53if this film was made today, they would focus a lot more on
- 46:57the Michael Corleone storyline and the veto storyline would be
- 47:00shorter. Look, I gotta go.
- 47:02I got I need a towel. I'm sweating after that one.
- 47:04But the the the the misogyny topic that was heated doesn't.
- 47:08Maybe you're messing up. You gotta move on.
- 47:10You're eating into my 2026 now. John, control me now.
- 47:14Yeah, I'm trying to control you. OK, Should I start it?
- 47:17Over. Yeah, sorry, I was trying to be
- 47:18funny. Alright, next segment is a
- 47:21party, like it's 2026. OK, so I think that if the film
- 47:24was made today, they would focus a lot more on the Michael
- 47:27Corleone storyline and the Vito storyline would be shorter.
- 47:31Though I personally love the veto storyline and I think they
- 47:35would also delve more into Fredo emotionally.
- 47:40We get like a few glimpses of it, but he doesn't really fully
- 47:44explain himself. He doesn't explain why he was
- 47:46mad at Michael, he doesn't fully explain his feelings and I think
- 47:50in a modern film we would explore that a little bit more.
- 47:53It's a little bit like it's pretty obvious what's happening.
- 47:56I don't know. But yeah, you're right.
- 47:57They could have delved into it a bit more.
- 47:59But the the problem with that is they cannot.
- 48:02I mean, I feel for Fredo in this movie.
- 48:04If you humanize them anymore than already.
- 48:08I mean, if you don't hate Michael poorly owned by the end
- 48:11of the movie or even midway year, there's something wrong
- 48:15with. You.
- 48:15They already heavily humanized Fredo.
- 48:17No I know, but talking about him delving into things more would
- 48:21just humanize them even more. The crowd would the the the
- 48:24audience would be on his side 100%.
- 48:27We we still have to feel like he betrayed him.
- 48:30You know? We can't be on Fredo side too
- 48:32much. Yeah, I just feel like in modern
- 48:35films, like we like in the 70s, you might not necessarily
- 48:38address emotional distress as much is as it is addressed
- 48:42today. Yeah, that's true.
- 48:44I mean, like I said, if you don't hate Michael by halfway
- 48:46through the movie, there's something with you.
- 48:48And that's my opinion. He's he's terrible.
- 48:51Yeah, so it feels 2026. I think Hyman Roth would have
- 48:55been Silicon Valley Titan. That's what it is.
- 48:58The big, the big chunk of his money would be in because, you
- 49:01know, it's more modern. The Senate hearing would have
- 49:04been live streamed would have been on YouTube.
- 49:08And people were watching on their phones on the on the
- 49:10subway. And there would be no shots of
- 49:13the the baby wieners, which was kind of sauce.
- 49:16Yeah. There's a few baby winners,
- 49:18there's like 2 of them. The scene where Alfredo has
- 49:21pneumonia and they're like first of all, what the fuck are they
- 49:23doing? They're like lighting a lighting
- 49:26a candle. Opening up his lungs so he can
- 49:29breathe, I think. That's some holistic.
- 49:30Shit no, that's old school. What do you think Vicks vapo rub
- 49:33does? It's the.
- 49:33Same thing. Anyway, in that scene it shows
- 49:35his Weiner a lot and it's they don't do that anymore.
- 49:38They don't show baby wieners cause I think it's
- 49:40inappropriate. They don't show real weiners.
- 49:42Also there didn't he could have been wearing a.
- 49:44Diaper grown man wieners. He could.
- 49:46Have been wearing a diaper. Why is his Wiener out?
- 49:48It's the 70s. It's weird, but yeah, that, that
- 49:52thing on the chest, the little, the bulb with the heat, that's
- 49:56real. That's the real thing.
- 49:57I'm sure it's real, but it felt like some kind of ritual.
- 50:00That's very misogynistic. OK, so recasting I would for
- 50:06Michael, I'm thinking Timothy Chalamet, Paul Mescal.
- 50:12They both have that intensity and ability to like, look
- 50:16completely hollowed out. Yeah, but Timothy Shalomi looks
- 50:19too much like a child. He couldn't play Michael
- 50:21Corleone. It depends if you dress them up
- 50:24a bit. Young Vito.
- 50:25I'm thinking Austin Butler. Their cabrio for that.
- 50:30I know that there is talk of young Vito being yeah, I know
- 50:33there was talk of him being Michael Corleone.
- 50:35But honestly, I think he could have done like in the in
- 50:38Titanic, he looks he fits so well into like the early 1900s
- 50:42like. It would have had to been like
- 50:44Titanic Leo age though. Yeah, I'm putting these people
- 50:48at the age that they would need to be because for Michael, I
- 50:51want, I want Killian Murphy, but obviously it can't be modern
- 50:54day. Killian Murphy would be.
- 50:56It would be alright, yeah. Yeah, because he has like an
- 50:59intensity and with the blue eyes, like they could work that
- 51:02in. Like he's a blue eyed Italian.
- 51:04Like I think he has like such a presence.
- 51:07Well, the, well, the thing with Michael Corleone or Al Pacino
- 51:10playing Michael Corleone is he's shorter than everybody, but he
- 51:15commands like severe attention. Like he's very intimidating in
- 51:19this. Yeah, he's still looms large,
- 51:21even though he's small. Yeah.
- 51:23There's, I know, Kilian's tall. But the scene where one thing I
- 51:27noticed this time watching it this time was when Michaels
- 51:31arguing with Kay and she's like, I'm going to leave you.
- 51:34He takes a sip of water and his fucking hand is shaking because
- 51:39he's so angry. It's terrifying.
- 51:41And you had an audible gasp when she told him it was an abortion.
- 51:46I heard. I I heard you.
- 51:47There was like, And you didn't gasp because of what she said.
- 51:50You gasped because of his reaction.
- 51:52Yeah. He was like he was burning holes
- 51:54through her head. As his eyes are bulging out of
- 51:57his head. It's it's crazy.
- 52:00Yeah. There's there's no question that
- 52:01he's the perfect casting. But I could see Killian Murphy
- 52:04for Tom Hagan. I actually think Michael
- 52:06Fassbender would have made a good Tom Hagan.
- 52:10Yeah, Actually take away the accent.
- 52:12I think he could. He has, I think he would have a
- 52:14similar presence because he does have like that kind of that
- 52:16calm, gentle. Jeremy Strong as Tom Hagan.
- 52:21Who's that? Jeremy Strong is in the Big
- 52:25Short and he's in the show Succession.
- 52:29You you'll know exactly who he is when you see him, but he he's
- 52:33been coming up in the last few years really good.
- 52:36OK, He was great in the Big Short.
- 52:38He was one of the investor guys. OK, I wanted Sam Rockwell as
- 52:43Fredo, but young Sam Rockwell. He's not pathetic enough.
- 52:46In Three, in the Three Billboards movie, he's like,
- 52:49he's kind of slimy. And I think you could channel
- 52:52that energy to be Frado. It would be like a it would be
- 52:56less of a week Fredo and more of a dirtbag Fredo.
- 53:01I got Barry Keoghan for Fredo, you know that.
- 53:04Is ohe yeah Sabrina Carpenter's ex.
- 53:06Boyfriend. Yeah, he's got that like, wormy
- 53:08kind of look. He was in that movie.
- 53:10What the hell was it? The freaky movie where there's a
- 53:12bunch of rich people? Saltburn.
- 53:14Yeah, yeah, he he could do, Yeah, because he did kind of
- 53:17have a little bit of like a week a weakness.
- 53:19I could see him betraying people.
- 53:22Yeah. Oh yeah, definitely.
- 53:24And then I kind of have like a crazy one.
- 53:26I want Anne Hathaway to be Kay. Oh yeah.
- 53:29I think she could do it. She could piss people off.
- 53:32Well, I know you don't like her. But no, I I don't dislike her, I
- 53:36just. I really like her, I think.
- 53:37She's quite her. She's beautiful.
- 53:39Sometimes she's kind of like, yeah, sometimes she's really
- 53:42good in movies. Well, she was great in
- 53:44Interstellar. She she's also done lighter
- 53:47roles, but she can play dramatic roles as well.
- 53:49And I think like as the as the mother role, I think she would
- 53:53come into it really, really easily.
- 53:56Put solid choices. OK, can you watch this with your
- 53:59parents? Yeah, I'd say you can.
- 54:03It's it's an amazing movie for a family night.
- 54:05Yeah. You just have to brace yourself
- 54:07for a couple scenes. The dead hooker scene is, it's
- 54:11upsetting and it's sexual, so it's kind of hard.
- 54:14It's because he talks about they're playing a game like it's
- 54:16kind of uncomfortable. And then also the scene at the
- 54:20sex show in Havana could be awkward.
- 54:22In front of parents? Superman, the guy with the
- 54:24schlong. Yeah, the guy like ends up his
- 54:26his his robe to show off his Weiner.
- 54:30You don't see it, but you know what's happening, so it could be
- 54:32a little uncomfortable. With parents.
- 54:34So it's more of a can you watch this with your parents?
- 54:36Yes. Should you watch this with your
- 54:38parents? Probably not.
- 54:39The only scenes that you you could watch would be the
- 54:43flashback scenes because you know, you see it's not that
- 54:46graphic. I mean, except for the new
- 54:48cheese part. It's not that uncomfortable to
- 54:50watch with parents, it's just there's some scenes that are a
- 54:53little bit sexual. Can we talk about Vito's friend,
- 54:56the guy who's not the the play and he's all obsessed with this
- 55:00girl, and then Fanucci's got a fucking knife to her eye.
- 55:03And Carbone, the guy from Goodfellas.
- 55:06Yeah, that guy's a pussy. And he's like, let's get the
- 55:08fuck outta here. It's like, bro, the guy's about
- 55:10to slice your girl up. He gave no fucks.
- 55:12Yeah, but it shows when they were sitting in the opera, like,
- 55:15you don't fuck with the Black Hand for sure.
- 55:17He was like, Oh my. God, but he really was talking
- 55:19about this girl and then all of a sudden he's like, let's get
- 55:22the fuck. Out of here after they run away,
- 55:23still talking about he's like, well isn't she beautiful?
- 55:25Though I know like. Yo dude, if she knew you just
- 55:28stood by while she was still. Respect to that guy.
- 55:31I forget his name. The actor, fuck I should have
- 55:33wrote it down. But the guy who plays Carbone in
- 55:36Goodfellas and he's in Godfather Part 2 and he he's with Deniro
- 55:41and both movies and now he has a cooking show or a cooking
- 55:45channel on YouTube. He does Italian meals.
- 55:48So random it it's really popular.
- 55:51The most random thing I've ever. Really popular so good for him.
- 55:54So you favorite and least favorite supporting character?
- 55:57Do you wanna? Go.
- 55:58I have some controversial ones. Here.
- 56:00Oh shit. OK, let's hear it.
- 56:02So my favorite in Godfather Part 2 supporting character is
- 56:07actually Fredo. I had a feeling you were gonna
- 56:09pick. Fredo.
- 56:10The reason I picked Fredo is because we see him, you know, he
- 56:15worked in Vegas with the casinos, with Moe Green, Mo
- 56:17Green gets killed, yadda yadda yadda.
- 56:19But in the second movie, in the second movie, he's got a lot
- 56:23more lines. You can tell that he's really
- 56:26trying to appease and impress his brother Michael, who's
- 56:30actually younger than him, and he's trying to show that he has
- 56:35the chops to do what it takes and blah, blah, blah and get get
- 56:39it done. And I the scene with his wife is
- 56:42kind of upsetting because Fredo's kind of, you know, he's
- 56:46not, he's more passive. His wife is being freaking
- 56:50tools. She's drunk, embarrassing
- 56:52herself, embarrassing him. So you feel bad for Fredo there.
- 56:57The scene where he comes to Cuba and he's sitting with Michael at
- 57:00that cafe and he orders the banana daiquiri and he's talking
- 57:05to Michael and he's like. Yeah, they like Snuggle.
- 57:07And he's like, why didn't we do this sooner?
- 57:09Why could we do this sooner like you see that there's.
- 57:11He feels close to he feels. Close to him and he's the
- 57:15counterweight. In this movie, there is a line,
- 57:18and Fredo is that line. And Michael crosses that line
- 57:22with Fredo by killing him at the end, and he goes into full dark
- 57:26mode. Pure evil.
- 57:28Yeah. And Fredo is the one that's
- 57:30holding back. Tom Haggen's not doing it.
- 57:32Tom Haggen's not involved. And when he gets involved, he's
- 57:34just as evil. He fucking kills that.
- 57:37The girl at the brothel. They, you know, Fredo wasn't
- 57:40involved with that. He was just told we're going to
- 57:42do this at your brothel and that's it.
- 57:44He was, it was just as surely was weak.
- 57:48He didn't stand up to yeah, but. Anybody.
- 57:49Fredo would have been like, yeah, sure, let's kill this girl
- 57:52with my brother. It's just gonna happen.
- 57:54He has no say in the matter, you know what I'm saying?
- 57:56Well, another sad thing about the Fredo character.
- 57:58That actor actually is is dead now.
- 58:01RIP. He was Meryl Streep's one true
- 58:04love and then he died of cancer and she has said that that he
- 58:07was her one true love. Yeah, he's a great actor.
- 58:10He's a dog. Day afternoon with Pacino.
- 58:12Yeah, he's a disturbing character in that.
- 58:14One and then you know he's fishing with Michael son.
- 58:18He's being a really good uncle and you know, the ending scene
- 58:22is just fucking heart wrenching. It is heart wrenching.
- 58:26My favorite supporting characters.
- 58:28Tom Hagan. Have you just talked all that
- 58:30shit at him? It wasn't mine last time.
- 58:32And Clemenza. Wasn't.
- 58:33Clemenza. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 58:35He's a measured, calm, intelligent person among a bunch
- 58:40of vengeful emotional assholes. He's the only one who keeps a
- 58:44cool head and thinks about everyone's best interest and
- 58:47business above emotion. We see Michael, Pay Fredo,
- 58:52Connie all lead with their emotions in this movie and be
- 58:56hateful towards each other. Actually, yeah, but not Tom.
- 59:00He's he's he's very level headed, which is heavily needed
- 59:03in this movie with with the with the emotional people.
- 59:06Yeah, but also he lost a lot of hair in two years.
- 59:10Well, you work a full head of hair in 1970. 2 So I don't blame
- 59:14him. Yeah, he has a full head of hair
- 59:15in 19721974 gone. Yeah, complete cul-de-sac.
- 59:20It's been several years, though in the movie it's only two.
- 59:23Two years between movies have been filmed.
- 59:25Yeah, but what the fuck happened to his hair?
- 59:29It fell out. In two years.
- 59:31No, it wasn't two years. No, I know it's supposed to be
- 59:34over several years, but yeah, in the in actual real life.
- 59:37No, in the first two years later in the first movie had a hair
- 59:39piece. It's obvious.
- 59:41How did? He, yeah, he had a hair piece in
- 59:43the first movie. And then at the end of the first
- 59:45movie, Michael son is like basically a baby.
- 59:48Remember, he's in his lap. He, he's playing with the the
- 59:50Godfather and he dies in the playing with the oranges.
- 59:54And then this movie he's, he's like almost 9 or 10 years old.
- 59:58So it's been several years. No, I know that it's been
- 1:00:01several years. I just like thought like in real
- 1:00:03life. Why are you bald shaming?
- 1:00:07I'm not as it was shocking because he had a full head of
- 1:00:09hair in the first movie. Yeah, he's really good in this.
- 1:00:12I just didn't pick him again because I felt his character
- 1:00:16took a back seat to a lot of different characters.
- 1:00:20He was. Basically did.
- 1:00:22He's like, he's a shadowy in the corner observing in a lot of
- 1:00:25scenes, but that's his character.
- 1:00:27He's always there and he's quietly listening.
- 1:00:30You see the gears in his head turning because he's so smart,
- 1:00:33but he's not. He's not front and centre and he
- 1:00:36doesn't need to be. Yeah, when he's on screen,
- 1:00:39you're you're like watching him. But when he's.
- 1:00:41Off. You definitely notice him when
- 1:00:42he's on. Screen.
- 1:00:43I think it could have used them more in this movie to be honest.
- 1:00:45They they could have but I mean they didn't want him
- 1:00:47overshadowing Al Pacino cause he had.
- 1:00:49To really, Michael fucking treats him like garbage in this
- 1:00:53and it's weird how he treats him like garbage.
- 1:00:55It just shows how evil Michael becomes.
- 1:00:57Yeah, but I'll talk about that shortly.
- 1:01:00Lee's favorite supporting character honestly is Kay, my
- 1:01:05least favorite, and I'll tell you why.
- 1:01:07You're coming for OK. No, no, I'll tell you why I
- 1:01:11don't like the character because the acting by Diane Keaton is so
- 1:01:15good. She is very unlikable in this
- 1:01:18movie. You knew exactly what you were
- 1:01:21getting into, marrying this fucking guy.
- 1:01:24She was a teacher. Michael fucking went to Italy.
- 1:01:28He left. You were standing there holding
- 1:01:31the candle on him. He comes back.
- 1:01:34I'm back. I've been back a year.
- 1:01:37We'd be. We belong together.
- 1:01:39She fucking marries him, has kids.
- 1:01:42You knew exactly what you were getting into.
- 1:01:44He told you the story about Luca Brazzi and Johnny Fontaine.
- 1:01:49Like I'll make you an offer, you refuse.
- 1:01:51You know exactly what you're getting into, and now you have
- 1:01:55all this fucking money, you're rich, your husband's fucking
- 1:01:58warlord, basically dawn of all these mobs and you guys have all
- 1:02:03this power and now you're unhappy.
- 1:02:07She is very naive because, like, at the end of the first movie,
- 1:02:10she's like, you didn't kill Carlo, did you?
- 1:02:12And he's like, no, I didn't know.
- 1:02:13I would never do that. And she does believe him until
- 1:02:16the door closes. So I think that she was kind of
- 1:02:19being willfully ignorant and being a little bit naive.
- 1:02:22But Kay is a sympathetic character because she has
- 1:02:25humanity. She's one of the few characters
- 1:02:28who has humanity. Yes I agree but she's highly
- 1:02:33unlikable in this movie. I find she's very.
- 1:02:37Unlike the abortion scene makes her unlikable, but other than
- 1:02:39that she's barely in the freaking movie.
- 1:02:41No, forget the abortion scene. This guy just went to a Senate
- 1:02:44hearing. He might go to jail for the rest
- 1:02:46of his life. Your kids, everything will be
- 1:02:49ruined. The Senate hearing just
- 1:02:51finished. You're going to break it to him
- 1:02:53that you're leaving him now. Waited for it to be over because
- 1:02:56she was like, if he goes to prison, I don't have to do this.
- 1:02:58Yeah, it's a shitty situation, but you fucking, you know, don't
- 1:03:03give me that buyers remorse bullshit.
- 1:03:05And it's not because Diane Keaton's bad or something or I
- 1:03:08hate the character. The character is played so well.
- 1:03:11I think she's meant to be highly unlikable in this movie.
- 1:03:14And you know, it's funny, the abortion thing, that was Talia
- 1:03:18Shire's idea. It originally it was written
- 1:03:20that she would say that it was just a miscarriage.
- 1:03:23But Talia Shire said if you tell Michael that it was an abortion,
- 1:03:28he'll fucking hate you forever. I'm gonna change.
- 1:03:33I'll change. I've learned that I have the
- 1:03:36strength to change. And you'll forget about this
- 1:03:40miscarriage, and we'll have another child.
- 1:03:45And we'll go on. You and I, we'll go on.
- 1:03:52OHP Michael. Michael, you are blind.
- 1:03:58It wasn't a miscarriage. It was an abortion.
- 1:04:06And abortion, Michael, just like our marriage is an abortion,
- 1:04:12something that's unholy and evil.
- 1:04:18I didn't want your son, Michael. I wouldn't bring another one of
- 1:04:22your sons into this world. It was an abortion, Michael.
- 1:04:29It was a son. A son.
- 1:04:31And I had it kill because this must all end.
- 1:04:36I know now that it's over. I knew it then.
- 1:04:42There would be no way, Michael, no way you could ever forgive
- 1:04:46me. Not with this Sicilian thing
- 1:04:50that's been going on for 2000 years.
- 1:05:00You won't take my parents. You won't take my children.
- 1:05:05You're much. And they they put it in the
- 1:05:08movie. Well, that was a great idea
- 1:05:10because it's it's a shocking scene and it also he would hate.
- 1:05:14It comes out of left field. It does.
- 1:05:16Really doesn't cross your mind that.
- 1:05:18She's like, you're so blind you didn't even realize what I did.
- 1:05:21Yeah, she's very unlikable. Like she's happy to tell him.
- 1:05:24Like he's telling her I'm gonna change, I'm gonna do this, I'm
- 1:05:27gonna do that. And she's like laughing in his
- 1:05:29face, saying you're so blind. She wants out.
- 1:05:32At that point, she's like you're, you're a vengeful.
- 1:05:34Hateful. And then he's like, OK, here,
- 1:05:36you get out. I keep the kids.
- 1:05:38Here's the door. Shuts the door on her face.
- 1:05:40I kind of, yeah. I I've I've sympathy for her
- 1:05:43character, but if I was her I would have.
- 1:05:44Just said yeah, you stay, stay with him.
- 1:05:47It was. Surprisingly, she gets to be
- 1:05:48with your kids and you have all the money in the world.
- 1:05:50Just say what happened to all that misogyny, dog.
- 1:05:54If I'm just saying it was me because I wouldn't want to be
- 1:05:56separated from my kids. Miley's favorite character is
- 1:06:00Frankie. 5 Angels. Oh, he's so good in this.
- 1:06:03I know, but he's loud, he's annoying, he's stupid.
- 1:06:06He brings that old school sunny hot head vibe, you know?
- 1:06:09Well, yeah, but yeah, but he almost portrays the the family
- 1:06:11and courts not even never do that.
- 1:06:13Well, that yeah, that's true. But he thinks that he was
- 1:06:16betrayed by Michael. The only scene where he is calm
- 1:06:18and doesn't seem like an imbecile is when Tom visits him
- 1:06:21in custody and they have a metaphorical discussion about
- 1:06:25living within the Roman Empire and if a soldier kills himself,
- 1:06:28his family will be taken care of.
- 1:06:31Hey, they went home and sat in the hot bath, opened up their
- 1:06:38names and lead to death, and sometimes they had a little
- 1:06:45party before they did it. Don't worry about anything.
- 1:06:54Frankie 5. Minutes.
- 1:06:57Thanks, Tom. Thanks.
- 1:07:00Other than that, this asshole is getting drunk spilling wine.
- 1:07:04He's drunk drinking out of a hose, Yeah.
- 1:07:07And screaming funny. And screaming at Michael for not
- 1:07:10allowing him to murder the Rosato brothers like he's he's
- 1:07:13annoying. Yeah, he's old school.
- 1:07:16And The thing is, he's in this movie only because they couldn't
- 1:07:20get Clemenza back, and it really pisses me off.
- 1:07:24Clemenza would have been better, yeah.
- 1:07:25Way better in real life. The guy who plays Clemenza
- 1:07:29wanted to be in this movie. He had lost a bunch of weight.
- 1:07:33Coppola told him you need to gain the weight back, and he
- 1:07:36said no. He's like, why can't Clemenza
- 1:07:39just have lost? Weight Clemenza could be skinny.
- 1:07:41And also he said he wanted to write his own lines and for he
- 1:07:45said I'll be in the movie as long as I could write my own
- 1:07:47lines. And Coppola told them go fuck
- 1:07:48yourself. So they killed him.
- 1:07:50Can't affect you can't affect the scripture kill.
- 1:07:52Him off, he was such a big part in the first movie and.
- 1:07:55Killed himself off and you know the unreasonable.
- 1:07:57Demands line for leave the gun. Take the cannoli, which is
- 1:08:01fucking iconic. Let the guy write some lines.
- 1:08:03Yeah, let him write some. He can't write all of his own
- 1:08:06lines. You have a script.
- 1:08:07Yeah. And he's like, you have to lose
- 1:08:10all this. You have to gain all the weight
- 1:08:11back that you lost. So anyways, they killed them
- 1:08:13off. They made them have some kind of
- 1:08:14a heart attack. It's his own fault that he got
- 1:08:16killed. Off I disagree.
- 1:08:18No, because Coppola does fucked up shit in the third movie too,
- 1:08:22which I don't like. Which you haven't even.
- 1:08:24Seen no. If Clemenza really wanted to be
- 1:08:26in the movie, he could have played along.
- 1:08:28He's still my. Favorite character from the
- 1:08:29first movie made 2 great movies but he made some fucking bad
- 1:08:32services. Alright, fair enough.
- 1:08:34I won't tell you what happens in the third one, the Coppola
- 1:08:38decided. Anyway I could tell you.
- 1:08:41What is that? What?
- 1:08:42Tom-tom Higgins on the third movie.
- 1:08:44Did they kill him off? Yeah.
- 1:08:46Do you know why he wanted 5 million?
- 1:08:50They said no. He is fucking crucial to this
- 1:08:54whole story about Michael and the family.
- 1:08:58Has to be in it. He's not.
- 1:09:00Well, maybe that's why the third movie is known.
- 1:09:02As it's known to be terrible, Yeah.
- 1:09:04And it's Coppola's decision. He's like, they don't, they
- 1:09:08don't want to pay him. Like, OK, go fuck yourself.
- 1:09:11You don't pay Robert Duvall. I read that Coppola didn't even
- 1:09:14wanna direct this. He actually asked Martin
- 1:09:16Scorsese to do it. He.
- 1:09:17Did and then. He did the the studio was like,
- 1:09:20no, absolutely not. Scorsese was like, no, it's too
- 1:09:23much pressure. He's throughout the studio,
- 1:09:26said. No, Scorsese was like, I'm not
- 1:09:28doing this. It's way too much pressure.
- 1:09:29You kidding me? You want me to fucking do the
- 1:09:30sequel to The Godfather? The only person that could have
- 1:09:34done it with some semblance of confidence would be Coppola, and
- 1:09:38he did a good job, don't get me wrong.
- 1:09:40Alright, fair enough. Yeah, they needed the blundering
- 1:09:42Frankie 5 Angels to go against the family.
- 1:09:44But I liked his character and the guy was nominated for an
- 1:09:47Oscar for his role in this. No, he was good.
- 1:09:49I he's just my least favorite character.
- 1:09:51Yeah, the acting is great and he's and he's crucial to the.
- 1:09:54Storyline. He is obnoxious.
- 1:09:55Yeah, he's annoying. Cultural impact.
- 1:09:59So reviewers say The Godfather Part 2 is acclaimed for its
- 1:10:04narrative structure. It's interesting how they
- 1:10:07intertwine Vito and Michael Corleone's stories, and Robert
- 1:10:12De Niro and Al Pacino received high praise for their
- 1:10:14performances. The film is celebrated for how
- 1:10:19impressive it is. Yes.
- 1:10:23A few find it slower paced and less engaging than the first
- 1:10:26movie, but overall it is regarded as an amazing film.
- 1:10:31It's funny how it's slower than the first one and then you show
- 1:10:34the first one some people and they go wow this is old timey.
- 1:10:37It's like slow but if you compare it to the second it's
- 1:10:40fucking lightning. The paces are different and this
- 1:10:43one could be like. Like I said earlier, a lot of
- 1:10:46people think that the flashbacks are too slow, but I think it's
- 1:10:49so important to the story. I agree.
- 1:10:51It's regarded as perhaps the greatest sequel ever made, and
- 1:10:54it's a benchmark in filmmaking, influencing generations of crime
- 1:10:59dramas like The Sopranos, like Goodfellas.
- 1:11:02Yeah, pretty much similar things that we said about.
- 1:11:04The first movie Dominic Cheneys, who's in this Johnny Ola.
- 1:11:08He's Uncle, Uncle Junior and. Yeah, there's a lot of crossover
- 1:11:13with with. You guys.
- 1:11:16In this yeah. And it it it, it did influence
- 1:11:18like we talked about that a lot with the first movie, influence
- 1:11:21for further movies because it really is kind of like a long,
- 1:11:24the whole like the whole Godfather franchise at this
- 1:11:27point was like kind of 1 long movie.
- 1:11:29And much like the first movie, it critiques the American Dream,
- 1:11:32but we see it in a very different light.
- 1:11:35So we're seeing Veto starting off poor and trying to make it
- 1:11:39in a respectable way. And it isn't until he turns to
- 1:11:42crime, that and violence that he really experiences success.
- 1:11:47So the film is really saying, like, living a good legal
- 1:11:50lifestyle will get you nowhere. And the black hands and older
- 1:11:55Vito Corleone live comfortably while the law abiding in the
- 1:11:58film are pushed around. They're forced to pay, forced to
- 1:12:01pay more for protection and controlled with threats of
- 1:12:05violence if they don't comply. Like the grocer, the black hand
- 1:12:09just goes in. He's like, I have a nephew that
- 1:12:10needs a job. So go ahead and fire veto.
- 1:12:12It's it really, it kind of puts this black mark on coming to
- 1:12:18America as an immigrant at that time.
- 1:12:20Yeah. And how hard it was to make it
- 1:12:22in an honest way. Yeah.
- 1:12:24Which is why it shows veto in this film turned to crime
- 1:12:27because it's the only way he can make a living.
- 1:12:29There's a lot of stories like that.
- 1:12:31You know, the system fucks people over and they do
- 1:12:34everything the right way and they just get fucked over over
- 1:12:38and over and over. And then they just snap.
- 1:12:40One day they're just like, you know what?
- 1:12:42I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna manipulate the system.
- 1:12:45I'm gonna twist it in my favor. And, you know, sometimes you're
- 1:12:49like, you know what? It's the only way out.
- 1:12:52For a lot of people, that was a true, real experience for some
- 1:12:54people, and they reflected it in the film because it's it's like
- 1:12:57it's a commentary. On It happens today.
- 1:12:59It's a commentary on life as an immigrant in some ways.
- 1:13:03I agree. My gut for cultural impact.
- 1:13:06You know, the flashbacks in a movie, it's never been done
- 1:13:10before. This was the first time it had
- 1:13:12been done and the studio was so paranoid that people, the
- 1:13:16audience would be confused. So that's when I mentioned
- 1:13:20earlier that they took out a lot of the flashbacks because it was
- 1:13:24going back and forth back and. Forth, it's so obvious because
- 1:13:26it's old timey, the music changes for the flashback.
- 1:13:29It was. It was very unknown for the 70s
- 1:13:32like that never happened. It's almost all in Italian.
- 1:13:35Yeah, people were like, what the fuck, you know, Yeah.
- 1:13:37And it was all in Italian, so people were confused as hell.
- 1:13:41So this was one of the 1st movies that have done that.
- 1:13:44Also one of the 1st movies that took a character from the first
- 1:13:48movie and made them younger in the second.
- 1:13:52That was another first. Yeah, I like that.
- 1:13:54Like we get to know Vito better without him, actually without,
- 1:13:57you know, seeing Marlon Brando, the older Veto.
- 1:14:00And this almost kind of may have led to the kind of Tarantino
- 1:14:04type filmmaking where they they start to break rules of
- 1:14:07traditional storytelling. Just out of like chronological
- 1:14:10order. Yeah, like we we know that Vito
- 1:14:13is they. They say you're not supposed to
- 1:14:15show a character once you know how they die.
- 1:14:18Yeah, because in film, as in life, people can die at any
- 1:14:23minute. But we know how Vito dies.
- 1:14:25So when we're watching him in the flashbacks, we know he can't
- 1:14:27die. I wonder if this is like the
- 1:14:29first prequel or first version of a prequel.
- 1:14:33I doubt it, because it seems a little heavy-handed to say that.
- 1:14:36I don't recall. Any other I could see it being
- 1:14:39the first time flashbacks were so heavily used.
- 1:14:42And it is unique in the way that they use it.
- 1:14:44You don't really see that in any other movie really.
- 1:14:46It's very unique. So you know the fishing scene at
- 1:14:50the end where Fredo gets executed?
- 1:14:52That's been spoofed a million times.
- 1:14:56I feel like the first movie is spoofed a lot more than.
- 1:14:58The second, I think there's a spoof of the the execution scene
- 1:15:02in South Park. I can't remember exactly how it
- 1:15:05happens. The kiss of death that has been
- 1:15:07spoofed everywhere. Was in The Simpsons.
- 1:15:09Yeah, it was in The Simpsons. The Don energy white suit
- 1:15:13walking around. The town.
- 1:15:14Oh yeah, In How I Met Your Mother, they have.
- 1:15:16Signs as well and How I Met Your Mother.
- 1:15:18Yeah. So there's a lot of cultural
- 1:15:21impact. I wouldn't say it's Godfather
- 1:15:23one versus 2, the whole Godfather like trilogy.
- 1:15:28It has a culture impact. There's still quotes in the
- 1:15:30third one that are said to this day.
- 1:15:33And people don't like the third one generally.
- 1:15:37I think it's aged well. The third movie, if you watch it
- 1:15:40now, it's a lot better than people say it was.
- 1:15:42But these quotes? And that too.
- 1:15:44Yeah, you've said that. Those quotes in that movie that
- 1:15:47people still say now? Yeah, but in terms of parodies,
- 1:15:50I think the first movie is the one where you'll see it the
- 1:15:52most. Yeah, yeah, for.
- 1:15:53Sure, in in cases with most movies it's like that.
- 1:15:57Soundtrack. I mean, it's pretty much the
- 1:16:01same thing as the first movie. Jimmy Award for best original
- 1:16:06score though. Yeah.
- 1:16:07It blends nostalgic Italian immigrant melodies with dark
- 1:16:10emotional themes to mix the the flashbacks of Vito to the
- 1:16:15current day scenes with Michael. Who gets to spin off?
- 1:16:20Wait, you had a new segment you wanted to introduce?
- 1:16:22Location, location location. Oh, yeah, yes, yes, you're
- 1:16:27right. Thank you for saving that.
- 1:16:28So location, location, location is a segment that I thought of
- 1:16:34recently because some movies, they go to a country or a
- 1:16:37certain place or a certain location, obviously, and you
- 1:16:42basically pick the best location in the film.
- 1:16:45So it can be a country, it can be inside of a building, it
- 1:16:50could be a specific room, it could be anything, it could be
- 1:16:54inside of a car. So you you just pick what you
- 1:16:58think is the most epic or best location in that movie.
- 1:17:02So do you have one? Yeah, mines the Havana Hotel.
- 1:17:06The Havana Hotel. The hotel, there's no, the hotel
- 1:17:09they're staying in like they, they go to the room and Hyman
- 1:17:13Roth and Michael are talking OHP.
- 1:17:14There's like billowing drapes, their 70s furniture.
- 1:17:17It feels very ritzy and rich. And this was obviously before
- 1:17:21the downfall of Cuba. So I think it was probably a
- 1:17:23really nice staying there at that time.
- 1:17:25Like I want to stay there at that.
- 1:17:26Time downfall or the the revolution Because a lot of
- 1:17:30people would disagree with you. Well, yeah, but like, they had
- 1:17:33this falling out with the US So if you go to Cuba now, a lot of
- 1:17:37the furniture you see is still from the 70s.
- 1:17:40The cars are old. Yeah, it's different.
- 1:17:42It's. Yeah.
- 1:17:43I wouldn't call any of the hotels ritzy or rich now, but at
- 1:17:46that time they were very fancy. So I want to go stay there at
- 1:17:50that time. Sure, fair enough.
- 1:17:54Any location. Location would be again with the
- 1:17:57same scene, Michael talking to Fredo and the Sunroom.
- 1:18:00That is a very impactful scene. But if you look at the backdrop,
- 1:18:03it's kind. Of beautiful.
- 1:18:05It's beautiful. It's, yeah, it's a snowy day in
- 1:18:07Nevada. You can see the water on the
- 1:18:09lake and you see the snow falling.
- 1:18:12But they're in the sunroom. They're comfortable.
- 1:18:15They're warm sitting on, you know, patio furniture.
- 1:18:19It's just, it's a, it's a very, it's a very beautiful shot.
- 1:18:23And I don't know, they timed it to be filmed in winter time, but
- 1:18:28it was just very. Nice.
- 1:18:29I think everything in this film is very intentional, so it
- 1:18:32probably was. But yeah, that the home, the
- 1:18:35compound is very beautiful. Yeah, he.
- 1:18:38Likes it both. Films stage in his backyard.
- 1:18:40Well, in both films, they live in beautiful places.
- 1:18:42That place you live on the water in the first movie that the
- 1:18:45gorgeous backyard for it's huge for the big wedding.
- 1:18:47Yeah. So it's, you know, they're rich,
- 1:18:49so they live in beautiful mansions.
- 1:18:51For sure. So who gets to spin off?
- 1:18:53I think this is, you're probably going to say the same thing.
- 1:18:56It's I Wanna Hyman Roth spin-off.
- 1:18:58Oht really. Yeah, I wanna see how he makes
- 1:19:01his 300 million. He's so rich.
- 1:19:03He's so revered. Yeah, I think Hyman Roth is an
- 1:19:06interesting character. I like his show relationship
- 1:19:08with his wife. I think they have a very cool,
- 1:19:11unique relationship. And I'd like to see his life of
- 1:19:14crime storyline. I'd like to see it all go down.
- 1:19:17And Veto could be a supporting. Character I'd see him and Moe
- 1:19:20Green doing Las Vegas. That would be part of.
- 1:19:22It that would be kind of. Cool, that would be part of it.
- 1:19:24Yeah, which is another Model Green spinoff that we had in the
- 1:19:27first movie. Yeah, we did.
- 1:19:28Mine was I wanna see full young Vito saga cause they show him
- 1:19:34showing up at Ellis Island. But I want to see him growing
- 1:19:39up, you know, meeting his wife, all these things.
- 1:19:43They do a jump forward that's pretty dramatic.
- 1:19:45I think they jump forward by like 20 years at one point.
- 1:19:48So. They do skip a lot.
- 1:19:50Before that. Yeah, they could have showed his
- 1:19:52marriage to his wife. Their wedding.
- 1:19:53And something showing the footage because apparently
- 1:19:55there's like 4 hours of footage that's unused because when they
- 1:20:02when? They could make a whole
- 1:20:03additional movie. When they when they finished it,
- 1:20:05couple of finished it. The studios, like you have two
- 1:20:07movies here. You need to, you need to make
- 1:20:09one. And he took out as much footage.
- 1:20:12They had way more flashback scenes so who the fuck knows
- 1:20:15what we missed. Yeah, they could have done a
- 1:20:17sequel with just Michael and then they get the third movie
- 1:20:19could have been a prequel of young Vito.
- 1:20:21Yeah, double feature. I want to watch Donnie Brasco
- 1:20:25with this really because I want more Al Pacino after watching
- 1:20:29this movie, but I also want to see him in a less terrifying
- 1:20:32role. I want like Pacino.
- 1:20:35Also Al Pacino aged like 20 years between the Godfather
- 1:20:39movies and there were only two years apart.
- 1:20:41This guy you just like fucking milk.
- 1:20:43I mean ages like milk. He looks so old.
- 1:20:48He does. It zooms in on his face at the
- 1:20:50end. He's so wrinkly.
- 1:20:51It's like dude. You were 20 in the first one.
- 1:20:53The fuck happened? It does work because being in
- 1:20:56that position where you're in charge of so much.
- 1:21:00I was thinking that like how it shows.
- 1:21:01Presidents, whether anybody? It shows presidents like Barack
- 1:21:05Obama at the beginning of his first term, at the end of his
- 1:21:08first term. And it's like, yo, dude, you
- 1:21:10aged 80 years. He's just more orange.
- 1:21:15Trump didn't age because he doesn't have a soul.
- 1:21:17Whoa. Just kidding.
- 1:21:21Anyways. OK, what about you?
- 1:21:24What's your double feeds? I I would put Godfather part
- 1:21:26three. I want to see the the end of the
- 1:21:29the story of Michael Corleone. Yeah, you know something funny
- 1:21:33in the Gilmore Girls, Lorelai Gilmore loves all the Godfather
- 1:21:36movies. And there's one episode where
- 1:21:39her and Rory are going to watch all three godfathers and then
- 1:21:42she's like, I want to watch all three godfathers and we'll
- 1:21:45replay the Sophia dying scene until the Mallomars run out.
- 1:21:49And like, I don't know that with that scene is I I mentioned that
- 1:21:52to you and you were like, that's a fucked up scene.
- 1:21:54Why does she wanna replay that over and over?
- 1:21:57Again, Yeah, that's that's kind of weird.
- 1:21:59That's a comedy, that's a sitcom that you were watching.
- 1:22:01So Gilmore Girls, like, that's weird that.
- 1:22:03It's like a soapy comedy, yeah. It's still it's it's a dark
- 1:22:06thing to say, OK? I got a laughing at a funeral
- 1:22:09here. OK get ready for this is hella
- 1:22:13dark. So in Godfather One, it was a
- 1:22:16bloody horse in the bed, and Godfather 2 was a bloody whore.
- 1:22:22What is the bed? OHS.
- 1:22:25And Tom Hagen was involved. So who's the sick 1 here?
- 1:22:29I think it's Tom Hagan. He's got a sick sense of humor.
- 1:22:32Yeah, but did Tom Hagan kill that horse?
- 1:22:34Nobody. He hired someone.
- 1:22:36No, he had it. Obviously he didn't do it.
- 1:22:38He's a fucking lawyer. Well, since he's squeaky clean,
- 1:22:40he's not killing anyone. He's hiring people to.
- 1:22:43Do these things. He's like, do it this way and
- 1:22:45then they're like OK. No cause vetoes in.
- 1:22:48Charge. But yeah, I just thought it was
- 1:22:50kind of interesting that there's two bloody things in the bed and
- 1:22:54ones a horse and ones in a whore house.
- 1:22:57OK, so the next the next segment is kiss, marry kill.
- 1:23:01But I did change the kiss, marry kill segment a little bit.
- 1:23:04I've made it kiss, marry kill slash a would you rather?
- 1:23:07Because I think kiss kiss marry kill might get stale, but I will
- 1:23:10use it sometimes. And when I don't want to do a
- 1:23:12kiss, marry kill, I'll do it. Would you rather?
- 1:23:14I'm confused. Just ask the question.
- 1:23:16Would you rather be Kay? We're afraid Go in this movie.
- 1:23:20Was obviously, I'd rather be Kay.
- 1:23:22I don't wanna be dead. But you lose your children.
- 1:23:25I would be alive. I get to see them at a
- 1:23:27permission to see them. Yeah, I guess that's kind of a
- 1:23:29stupid question. Yeah, would you rather be
- 1:23:32murdered fucking. Fishing.
- 1:23:33No. Well, because in my mind I was
- 1:23:35like, if I can't be with my children, I don't know if I want
- 1:23:37to live. Because she asks Anthony for a
- 1:23:40kiss and he's like no, not kissing you.
- 1:23:42He, like, hates her. I'm not gonna get into that.
- 1:23:45It's too fucking, it's too dark. So they go into the third movie.
- 1:23:49Yeah, kinda, but alright, lazy Sunday vibes.
- 1:23:53Nope. No, not for me.
- 1:23:55Maybe just a flashback scenes because they're a little bit
- 1:23:58lighter, except for the opening of the movie where everybody
- 1:24:02dies in this family. Yeah, we like, we're playing
- 1:24:06this movie over again when we were making notes and you wanted
- 1:24:09me to skip that beginning seeing.
- 1:24:10Is it so fucking upsetting? It's upsetting.
- 1:24:13Like this movie is too upsetting to be a lazy Sunday movie.
- 1:24:16The second-half is an assault on your senses.
- 1:24:19That's what you said. Yeah, it is, and I agree.
- 1:24:21It's an assault on your senses and your emotions.
- 1:24:24Yeah, there's too much rage and revenge to calmly, like, sit and
- 1:24:28watch this movie on the couch like you.
- 1:24:29It's very much like Titanic. Yeah, you have to mentally
- 1:24:33prepare yourself. It's upsetting the alias.
- 1:24:38I couldn't really think of any good ones because I already kind
- 1:24:40of used them the last time, so I'm kind of made a joke.
- 1:24:43OK, The Godfather. Havana Knights.
- 1:24:46Ohl, that's good because. The Dirty Dancing sequel is
- 1:24:49called Dirty Dancing Havana. Nights.
- 1:24:51Yeah, I got Godfather Part 2. Electric Boogaloo?
- 1:24:56The same thing really. Godfather Part 2 Full Throttle.
- 1:25:04Godfather 2, Cruise Control, Godfather 2, Annihilation.
- 1:25:13That was. From Mortal Kombat 2
- 1:25:15Annihilation like the. Movie was a deep cut.
- 1:25:18Well, it's annihilation cause he's fucking killing everybody
- 1:25:21and then father and son, just. Like the Cat Stevens song,
- 1:25:25You're still Young. That's your.
- 1:25:27Fault. That's not why.
- 1:25:28There's so much you have to it's.
- 1:25:30Godfather but his father and son cause it's flashbacks and then
- 1:25:34goes flash forward to Michael that's why.
- 1:25:36You know what's What's Cat Stevens name now?
- 1:25:38Yusuf Islam. So red.
- 1:25:43He converted guy, what do you want?
- 1:25:45Good for him, I hope he's happy. Yeah, that is a great song
- 1:25:49though, father and son. That's I love that song.
- 1:25:52My my cousin used to sing that around the campfire on our
- 1:25:56annual camping trip. Yeah.
- 1:25:57And it just has like such a warm and fuzzy feeling for.
- 1:26:00Me OK, best performance of the movie.
- 1:26:02This is the newer category. OK, so I want to name a few
- 1:26:07people. Lee Strasberg, AKA Hyman Roth.
- 1:26:11Yeah, the Moe Green monologue is amazing.
- 1:26:14It's really good. His fury starts to build because
- 1:26:17that was a beloved friend of. His I didn't ask who gave the
- 1:26:20order because I had nothing to do with business.
- 1:26:25Yeah, you can see his, you can see his fury building.
- 1:26:28And it's it's a really impressive piece of acting.
- 1:26:32Diane Keaton is barely in this movie.
- 1:26:35She makes a huge impact. That's.
- 1:26:37Totally good in this, that's she's way better than this than
- 1:26:39the first. Movie.
- 1:26:40To be in a couple of scenes and leave such a mark on a movie,
- 1:26:45yeah, you have to be incredibly gifted.
- 1:26:48However, Al Pacino takes it again for me.
- 1:26:52Yeah, Because in the abortion scene with Kay, you can see this
- 1:26:57shock and fury building in his face and his eyes bulging out of
- 1:27:02his head until he explodes with anger and slaps the shit out of
- 1:27:05her. Yeah, that was a fucking hard
- 1:27:08slap. She fell and he fell on her.
- 1:27:11That's hard to slap. Was you think he slapped her for
- 1:27:13real? No.
- 1:27:15This looks real. There's no way he slapped her
- 1:27:17that hard. It looks really looked way
- 1:27:18realer than the sunny beating up Carlo fucking bullshit.
- 1:27:21It looked real as hell, but there's no way that was real.
- 1:27:23It would been like you could have.
- 1:27:24He could have. Caused you said something was a
- 1:27:26real hot head. Yeah, that piece of acting it.
- 1:27:29Yeah. It makes him take over the.
- 1:27:32Whole movie part you were talking about the Moe Green
- 1:27:34monologue. When they cut to Michael, he's
- 1:27:38looking at him. He knows exactly.
- 1:27:41Hyman Roth knows exactly who gave the order to kill Moe
- 1:27:44Green. Yeah, of course.
- 1:27:45Right, and Michael knows that he knows, and his look on his face
- 1:27:49towards Simon Roth just fucking deadpan.
- 1:27:52Like no reaction biggest poker face in the world just staring
- 1:27:56at him. Just like no emotion at.
- 1:27:58All and his his reaction when he finds out Fredo betrayed him.
- 1:28:03Oh, at the at the sex club. Yeah, you just see his his
- 1:28:07expression crumble, and then he buries his face in his hands.
- 1:28:09He looks, yeah. There's so many little hints.
- 1:28:12So soon as he finds out that Fredo did that, like he he he
- 1:28:16mentions Johnny Ola and Hyman Roth.
- 1:28:18Yeah. He looks back at his bodyguard
- 1:28:21and the bodyguard leaves and he goes to kill Johnny Ola, like,
- 1:28:24right away. It's very, very interesting.
- 1:28:28Oh, I didn't realize. That and then also one more
- 1:28:31thing here. So when they're at the
- 1:28:33presidential Alice for New Year's Eve, Michael has told
- 1:28:37Fredo that Hyman Roth will never see the new year.
- 1:28:40Right at the presidential palace, everybody's partying.
- 1:28:43Senator Geary's there. And Fredo's like leaving.
- 1:28:46And Michael says, where are you going?
- 1:28:47He's like, oh, I want to get a real drink, right?
- 1:28:51He leaves. Yeah.
- 1:28:52And then about two minutes later, you see the turtleneck
- 1:28:56hitman, the old guy, Michael's hitman going into the hospital.
- 1:29:01And then you see. This.
- 1:29:04Fredo warns them. Because you see these army guys,
- 1:29:09right? The presidential Army guys,
- 1:29:11remember there, there's a convoy of guys that walk through the
- 1:29:13party. And they fuck off.
- 1:29:15Catch bags. So they leave, and then those
- 1:29:19same guys just waltz right into Hyman Roth's room.
- 1:29:22They don't even look around. They just walk right in.
- 1:29:25Kick the. Door open, shot that guy
- 1:29:27without. Even exactly, they just bang,
- 1:29:29bang, bang, bang. They blew him up.
- 1:29:31And then that's right after when Michael he sees Fredo, he says,
- 1:29:35I know it was you. He says you broke my heart
- 1:29:39because he he gave Fredo the information.
- 1:29:41He said at the cafe when they're ordering banana daiquiri, he
- 1:29:44says Hyman Roth will never see the new.
- 1:29:46Year no that no the I know it was you Fredo is after that
- 1:29:50drinks. No, no, I know.
- 1:29:51But he gives Fredo the information that he's gonna have
- 1:29:54Hyman Roth killed before the new year, and he tells those guys,
- 1:29:58and then that's when they go stop the.
- 1:29:59Yeah. And then the new Year kiss is
- 1:30:01after that. Yeah.
- 1:30:02So yeah, Fredo was like, I mean, there's more stuff to talk
- 1:30:07about. But maybe he deserved to get
- 1:30:08killed then cause he's fucking around too much, yeah?
- 1:30:12So I got here some honorable mentions.
- 1:30:16You mentioned Diane Keaton. I said yes.
- 1:30:18I agree wholeheartedly. She was wicked in this movie.
- 1:30:22Michael Gotso who plays Frankie 5 Angels.
- 1:30:25Really good acting in this. Yeah, really good.
- 1:30:28Very. Obnoxious, you know, he's
- 1:30:30sitting across from Al Pacino and he's arguing with him and
- 1:30:34you're like, wow, this guys really let it like he's really
- 1:30:37getting into giving it to him. You know, he's he's arguing with
- 1:30:40him so. Yeah, he does.
- 1:30:42He doesn't show, he doesn't step back.
- 1:30:44Tally Shire was way better in this than the first movie.
- 1:30:48Yeah, yeah. She is more subdued.
- 1:30:50She like the scene where she tells Michael to forgive him.
- 1:30:54Holy shit. Heavy, heavy shit.
- 1:30:57Very heavy. Robert Duvall amazing again,
- 1:31:02just really good in this movie. Just a continuation of the 1st.
- 1:31:06Honestly, he might have been better in the first one though
- 1:31:08upon reflection. I think he was more relatable in
- 1:31:13the 1st. One, he was more emotional.
- 1:31:15In the second movie, he's a bit more cold.
- 1:31:18Yeah, he's the he's the Cancellieri that they wanted in
- 1:31:22the first, like a wartime one. He's more cunning and stuff like
- 1:31:25that. But Pacino again, yeah, like I
- 1:31:28agree with you 100%. He fucking takes the cake in
- 1:31:30this. And it's a very close second
- 1:31:32with De Niro, the only one I don't give.
- 1:31:35The only reason I don't give it to Dinero, even though he won
- 1:31:37the award, is because he's playing a character that was
- 1:31:41played by somebody else. So he has a template already,
- 1:31:45you know. Yeah, Where is Al Pacino's just
- 1:31:47pulling this out of thin air. Yeah, he it.
- 1:31:50It really is a shame that he didn't win an Oscar for either
- 1:31:52of these because it's it's one of the best performances I've
- 1:31:57ever seen. Yeah.
- 1:31:58And actor give it's. The Gino's done so many great
- 1:32:00performance. His facial expressions alone,
- 1:32:03like it's not even his delivery of the lines, that's still good,
- 1:32:06but I have never seen somebody show so much emotion without
- 1:32:11speaking and pull you in so much.
- 1:32:15In this when the scene where Fredo has pneumonia, like he
- 1:32:20looks like a father whose kid is sick and there's nothing you can
- 1:32:24do about it but just pray and hope that they get over this
- 1:32:27sickness. It's phenomenal.
- 1:32:30Yeah. And he gets a very close second
- 1:32:32to me. But like I said, he had a
- 1:32:34template already. Yeah, he is very good though.
- 1:32:37And honestly, I like I kind of like his portrayal of Vito even
- 1:32:41more than Marlon Brando. I feel he's a lot more relatable
- 1:32:45in the in the second movie because you see him in his young
- 1:32:47life when he's still like a real person.
- 1:32:49Well, people change right over time, so like.
- 1:32:53Yeah, well, as the Godfather though, he's like not it's, he's
- 1:32:55like a a figurehead. He's not even like a real person
- 1:32:58anymore by the end of the movie. All right, shower thoughts?
- 1:33:04Uh, sure. OK, this is going to be a lot of
- 1:33:07discussion and theories here. So my first one here, the Senate
- 1:33:12hearings, lowkey really, really nice part of the movie, Very
- 1:33:16entertaining, very interesting. Also, it was filmed like a real
- 1:33:20Senate hearing, like if you watch CPAC or C-SPAN.
- 1:33:23Yeah, it felt real. It didn't.
- 1:33:25There was no close-ups of characters.
- 1:33:28There was these two shots. It was left and right.
- 1:33:31It did it. It almost felt like she turned
- 1:33:33the channel and you're. Looking at C-SPAN, the echoing
- 1:33:35of the hall, it was very real too.
- 1:33:39Yeah, I really appreciated that this time, watching it this
- 1:33:43time. What do you got?
- 1:33:45So when little Vito arrives at Ellis Island, he's marked with a
- 1:33:50circled X Yeah. Ellis Island immigrants were
- 1:33:54marked with this. If the inspector believed the
- 1:33:56person had a mental or physical defect.
- 1:34:00So at the beginning of the movie, his mother saying, like,
- 1:34:03he's he's dimwitted, he's slow. And they believe that at Ellis
- 1:34:06Island as well. But he's not.
- 1:34:09Yeah, what was his? An ex.
- 1:34:10He had this circled X because they believed he was like
- 1:34:13dimwitted. So I looked online what those
- 1:34:17things mean and and they had a letter for everything.
- 1:34:20So if you were a pregnant woman, they would write PG.
- 1:34:25If you were elderly they would put a different letter.
- 1:34:28If you were physically disabled, they would put a different
- 1:34:32letter. There was a bunch of different
- 1:34:34letters that they used for different people.
- 1:34:35If you had an illness, like if you had lice or something like
- 1:34:39that, they would put a different letter for each person.
- 1:34:42OK, well, the ex supposedly was for mental or physical defects.
- 1:34:45OK, so I think they thought he was dimwitted, but it turned out
- 1:34:48and like later in the film, he wasn't.
- 1:34:50Yeah, he's actually very, very highly intelligent later in
- 1:34:53life. Yeah, Frankie, 5 Angels brother
- 1:34:56showing up to the Senate hearing.
- 1:34:59What's your take on that? So I think what it is is that
- 1:35:03his brother was like an old school Italian, and they would
- 1:35:06never squeal. So him seeing the brother, yeah,
- 1:35:10made him be like, I can't squeal because initially I was like,
- 1:35:14he's afraid for his brother's life, that they're going to kill
- 1:35:17him. But Michael is whispering with
- 1:35:19the brother and they talk about inviting him out to dinner.
- 1:35:22It doesn't seem hostile. Yeah, I had both exact same
- 1:35:25thing. I'm like, he's either his
- 1:35:27brothers there, they flow him in.
- 1:35:28They're like, we're going to kill you brother, his family and
- 1:35:31everybody you know, if you say anything, which in my opinion is
- 1:35:35actually a better truth than coming there because of the old
- 1:35:41school code the. Well, that's coding.
- 1:35:43Silence. It's pulling in that old school
- 1:35:45code because his brother gives him a look when he enters the
- 1:35:48room. And I said to you, I said where?
- 1:35:49I was like, oh, that's his dad or his brother.
- 1:35:51Yeah. And I think given Michael and
- 1:35:54who he is and how he's become so in my opinion, just he's pure
- 1:35:58evil now. I could see the threatening to
- 1:36:02kill Pentangeli's brother and everybody he knows back in
- 1:36:07Sicily the the real reason cause Michael's fucking crazy.
- 1:36:12Well, he was concerned for his brothers well-being a little bit
- 1:36:15because he asked Tom, he said did you send him back?
- 1:36:17So he was concerned for his well-being, but he, I think it
- 1:36:21was also like, you don't break the the code, you don't squeal.
- 1:36:26Yeah, I agree. The scene with Michael when he's
- 1:36:28talking to his mom, I find that seemed very sad because it
- 1:36:32mirrors the scene where he's talking to his dad in the garden
- 1:36:37in the first movie. And this time he's talking
- 1:36:40about, like in the first movie, he's talking about his son
- 1:36:43reading the funny papers, you know, and how he's such a smart
- 1:36:47kid. And then in this movie, he's
- 1:36:49talking to his mom and he's talking about losing his family.
- 1:36:52And, um, you know, he's concerned.
- 1:36:56It's sad because he's concerned about losing his family, but it
- 1:37:00he's still going deeper into the darkness.
- 1:37:04Well, he doesn't do anything about it.
- 1:37:05At that point, he should have spoken to Kay and tried to
- 1:37:08resolve their issues. He just, it's like he almost
- 1:37:11pushes it aside, like I'll deal with that later.
- 1:37:13He is You can't view America. You can't view a marriage like
- 1:37:16that. Yeah, it's not a plant.
- 1:37:18So you'll water it later. Like no, you have to water it
- 1:37:20every day. Yeah.
- 1:37:21Also how long was he gone after the shooting into their house he
- 1:37:26comes back after? Christmas it was at least
- 1:37:28several weeks. It's gotta be at least two
- 1:37:31months. As something like that.
- 1:37:33I think it was. At least he was.
- 1:37:34He was gone for awhile. Well, yeah, he missed Christmas
- 1:37:37and New Years with his family. Was it was it was a significant
- 1:37:40amount of time. When you brought this up earlier
- 1:37:43about how people think that the flashbacks take away from the
- 1:37:46movie, I agree. I think there's a way to watch
- 1:37:51this, by the way, in chronological order.
- 1:37:53It shows up on AMC sometimes, called The Godfather Saga, and
- 1:37:57basically it's edited so you're young Vito in Italy and then
- 1:38:02it's all the old school scenes with young Vito and then it goes
- 1:38:06into Godfather One and then it goes into Godfather too, but all
- 1:38:11the old school scenes or sorry, the new.
- 1:38:13Scene the new scenes. And then it goes into.
- 1:38:15Parts. I'd like to see it like that
- 1:38:16I'd. Like to see it like that too.
- 1:38:18It's I haven't seen it like that, but I think it would make
- 1:38:22the the new present day scenes in Godfather 2 much more
- 1:38:27cohesive. Well, we'll, we'll, we'll watch
- 1:38:29it like that some someday. Nearly all of Vito's dialogue is
- 1:38:32in Sicilian Italian, and Robert De Niro spent four months
- 1:38:37learning how to speak Sicilian Italian.
- 1:38:39Yeah, yeah, it, it shows. I mean, the guy knows Italian.
- 1:38:43I know Pacino doesn't. I think he had to learn a
- 1:38:46specific dialect cause he specifically said Sicilian.
- 1:38:49It's a different type. Well, Sicily is a different
- 1:38:52province in Italy. It's not a separate country.
- 1:38:55No, I know it's it's the same country, but yeah, they they
- 1:38:57probably had a slightly different dialect.
- 1:39:00But he did learn how to speak it and it only took four months, so
- 1:39:03I assume he probably did have some Italian already.
- 1:39:05Exactly what it takes. It's only a few lines too,
- 1:39:07right? Well, it's a lot of lines.
- 1:39:10It's all of his lines. So the scene at the end of the
- 1:39:13movie where there's a flashback to basically you see Sunny
- 1:39:18there, Connie, Carlo, Fredo, everybody's at the table.
- 1:39:23It's it looks like it's Vito's birthday.
- 1:39:27Yeah, they get a cake for him. What's your what's your take on
- 1:39:31that scene? What do you think that was all
- 1:39:32about? Yeah, I wanted to talk about
- 1:39:35that scene. Or did you wanna ask me that?
- 1:39:38Well, I'm, yeah. I wanna know.
- 1:39:39Like, what's the point of that final scene?
- 1:39:43Like, we know Michael fought in World War Two.
- 1:39:45We know he left college. Like why, why why are they
- 1:39:47showing? Us this right before that Fredo
- 1:39:50was killed and it cuts to Michael sitting in a dark room
- 1:39:54and his head just kind of cocks back in the chair and he's all
- 1:39:57by himself. And then the scene at the end of
- 1:40:00the movie is showing Michael with his family in a flashback
- 1:40:04scene to the the first movie, and one by one everybody in that
- 1:40:09table starts to leave and again he's by himself.
- 1:40:13It's just to kind of show that Michael, no matter what he does,
- 1:40:18he ends up being alone. And it doesn't matter if he was,
- 1:40:21you know, he he he didn't see eye to eye with Sunny and a lot,
- 1:40:25you know, it's fucked up. Most of the people at that
- 1:40:27table, they're dead because of Michael.
- 1:40:29Carlos dead. Fredo's dead.
- 1:40:33Seals dead. The only people that are alive
- 1:40:35are Connie and Tom. Yeah, so also, I don't know if
- 1:40:39this happened to you, but when that scene started, like James
- 1:40:42Kahn had some lines and stuff, I felt like warm.
- 1:40:46Like that scene was, it brought some warmth and levity to the
- 1:40:50whole fucking movie. And I think it was put there
- 1:40:53specifically to contrast the cold and calculated Godfather
- 1:40:58Part 2 versus the warm. And you know, you were saying
- 1:41:02like the the lighter tones Godfather one with the wedding
- 1:41:05scene and. Everything, especially, Yeah,
- 1:41:07especially before Connie's husband is abusive.
- 1:41:09Especially before Sonny dies. When, when when Vetoes alive.
- 1:41:13All of that. Yeah, it's it is.
- 1:41:15It's happier. It's happier, it's more fun.
- 1:41:18It's lighter. Like Fredo is like joking around
- 1:41:21with Sunny, like they're about to box each other, you know?
- 1:41:24Yeah. So I felt some warmth after that
- 1:41:28cold, cold scene. And I think it's a really nice
- 1:41:30touch that they they added that because you just went from
- 1:41:34fucking executing this guy's brother to.
- 1:41:37Well, it may be showing his regret too, that.
- 1:41:40Oh yeah, he just keeps look like he's lost, OK?
- 1:41:42He's lost, Fredo. He's lost.
- 1:41:44Sons made so many poor choices, it's crazy.
- 1:41:46Yeah, Yeah, he has. So did Fredo know that it was an
- 1:41:52assassination attempt? Yeah, that's what I wanted to
- 1:41:55know earlier. Like he says, I didn't know it
- 1:41:58was going to be a hit. Do you believe him?
- 1:42:00I don't. I don't believe him either cause
- 1:42:03he he tried to confess to Michael on in Cuba.
- 1:42:07He did. He's like I, I was mad at you.
- 1:42:09He said I was mad at you. He was about to confess to him
- 1:42:12and. He's mad at him cause he got
- 1:42:13stepped over. Is that all it was?
- 1:42:16So he's he says I was stepped over.
- 1:42:19I'm your older brother. And he also says that I was mad
- 1:42:23at you. So to me that's an admission of
- 1:42:26guilt because he is saying that I wanted you out of the way and
- 1:42:30I was angry that I didn't get the the big boy job.
- 1:42:34Yeah, but even if if Michael was dead, it would go to Tom.
- 1:42:38And nobody's giving the Empire to Fredo.
- 1:42:40He's too weak. Yeah, and.
- 1:42:42He shows his weakness. That's the thing.
- 1:42:44So I think he knew fully, I think that Rocco, one of the
- 1:42:50bodyguards, Rocco was in on it as well.
- 1:42:52So Michael has 2, Michael has two guys that he that are his
- 1:42:57one and two. And then he has this, the
- 1:42:59turtleneck hitman. So Rocco and Al, AL's the guy
- 1:43:03who shoots Fredo at the end and Rocco's the guy who sent to kill
- 1:43:07Hyman Roth. So when the shooting happens,
- 1:43:09right, the drapes get shot up, he says Rocco, I want them
- 1:43:12alive. And he shouts he's like, alive.
- 1:43:15And then Rocco finds the two shooters with their throat slit,
- 1:43:19and he says nobody knows who they are.
- 1:43:22They must be from New York. But who killed them?
- 1:43:26Exactly. And he said I want them alive.
- 1:43:28Who killed them? Fredo didn't fucking do it.
- 1:43:31He's not a tough guy. If there's only two shooters
- 1:43:34there, who's doing it? Cause that's why I think.
- 1:43:37And and at the end of the movie, he sends Rocco to kill Hyman
- 1:43:41Roth. And remember, Tom's like, you
- 1:43:43cannot do this. He's gonna be surrounded by FBI,
- 1:43:46there's gonna be reporters. There, Rocco says it'll be hard,
- 1:43:49not impossible. Yeah, but I think Rocco knows
- 1:43:52that I'm fucking next because it's a suicide mission.
- 1:43:56He goes, he shoots Hyman Roth, and he's fucking killed right
- 1:43:59away. Yeah, so I think that was
- 1:44:01Michael's saying you're going to get killed.
- 1:44:04So you can either go get killed doing something for me, or
- 1:44:08you're going to get executed. Yeah, he could have been also
- 1:44:11wired in that scene where they're looking for the
- 1:44:14shooters. Why are they dragging Fredo's
- 1:44:17wife through the woods? I thought.
- 1:44:19She's fucking, she's a lunatic. She heard the shooting and she
- 1:44:23probably lost her shit and she's still trashed.
- 1:44:26I don't know how she's not passed out.
- 1:44:28Just like train wreck woman. Well, I mean the house got she
- 1:44:31was shot up and that would wake up anyone.
- 1:44:33Fair enough. But they're trying to like
- 1:44:35probably get her to safety. Remember, they put everybody in
- 1:44:37one room. They're probably trying to get
- 1:44:39them to safety and she's like, yeah, she's dropped like the wop
- 1:44:45word like 7 times in like 4 seconds and she's crazy.
- 1:44:50You married an Italian guy? Like what are you doing?
- 1:44:53Just go back to Rocco. I think it's really unique.
- 1:44:56Like, not unique. It's just interesting that
- 1:44:59Michael says I don't want anything to happen to him while
- 1:45:01my mother's alive. It's fucking savage.
- 1:45:04She's like controlling his hatred and he's like, I'm gonna
- 1:45:07lie and wait till my mom's dead. Well, that's what I'm saying.
- 1:45:10This guy's pure evil in this movie.
- 1:45:12He's pure evil, but he didn't want his mother to suffer
- 1:45:15anymore. Sure, she's already lost her
- 1:45:18husband and one of her children. He's like, I don't want him
- 1:45:20touched while my mother's alive. I don't want her going through
- 1:45:22that. He's pure evil.
- 1:45:24He goes and quote UN quote forgives Fredo at the funeral,
- 1:45:29but all he was doing was embracing him one last time.
- 1:45:32And then he looks up at Rocco. Or no, He looks up at Al and
- 1:45:37makes eye contact like my mother's gone, we're going to
- 1:45:41kill him now. Yeah, it's fucked up.
- 1:45:44That's dark. It's really fucked up.
- 1:45:46So Michael's. He's a bastard in this movie.
- 1:45:50He is. On a lighter note, I love when
- 1:45:54Vito goes to the opera with his friend and the friends.
- 1:45:57Like, isn't my girlfriend so beautiful?
- 1:45:59And then Vito said I only have eyes for my wife and son.
- 1:46:03Yeah, I thought that was a really lovely thing to say.
- 1:46:06Cause we like young Vito's very sweet and he's very relatable
- 1:46:10before he goes into crime. Like, yeah, it really gives us.
- 1:46:13Like you said, he goes into it out of necessity.
- 1:46:16He does, and it gives us somebody that we can relate to
- 1:46:19and hold on to while we're on this ride through.
- 1:46:22Michael's like crazy because you can't relate to Michael at all.
- 1:46:26We need somebody that we can relate to.
- 1:46:28Veto. I've noticed this movie, he's
- 1:46:30very virtuous. Even though he's in the life of
- 1:46:32crime, he, you know, he stops Fanucci from harassing people
- 1:46:37for protection money. You know, he, he's just
- 1:46:41virtuous. He helps the lady.
- 1:46:42The Peoples champ. He's the people's champ.
- 1:46:44He he helps everybody out. If somebody does him a favor, he
- 1:46:47does them a favor. You know what I mean?
- 1:46:49Like, yeah, he's very virtuous, even though he's in a life of
- 1:46:51crime. Well, we see that in the first
- 1:46:53movie too. Like he's a much better person
- 1:46:55than any of the children that he raised, which is really sad.
- 1:46:59It's a little hypocritical sometimes.
- 1:47:00You know, he does kill people. His organization kills people.
- 1:47:04And then he's like, this guy thinks we're murderers.
- 1:47:06It's like, yeah, Guy, you are kind of murderers.
- 1:47:08Yeah, he has a line. And Michael in this movie
- 1:47:12doesn't. He fucking kills everybody he
- 1:47:15needs. To Michael's much more blood
- 1:47:17hungrier than Vito. He is.
- 1:47:18It's really fucked. Up her bloodthirsty.
- 1:47:20The part Wilfredo gets drunk at the sex show and just tells
- 1:47:24everyone that Johnny Ola brought him to this place and after that
- 1:47:28Michael's really. What an idiot.
- 1:47:31Yeah, like 5 minutes ago you just pretended to not know
- 1:47:34Johnny. Ola, he said.
- 1:47:35I don't know Johnny Ola, and I think he also said he'd never
- 1:47:38been to Cuba before. Yeah.
- 1:47:40You liar. Terrible.
- 1:47:43The The door to Vito Corleones olive oil business was rigged so
- 1:47:47that it wouldn't open if a nail was inserted into the lock, and
- 1:47:51Coppola kept this a secret from Leopoldo Trieste, who played
- 1:47:58senior Roberto. Oh, I see the landlord.
- 1:48:01Yeah. So, yeah, the landlord.
- 1:48:03So his difficulty in opening the door was real.
- 1:48:06He really couldn't get out. That's the scene, the, the, the
- 1:48:09comedy and the like, the, the, you know, the tension Little
- 1:48:12there's a little bit of tension, but yeah, it's more
- 1:48:14uncomfortable than anything. I agree.
- 1:48:16Ohe. I wanted to ask you when Kay
- 1:48:18tells Michael about the abortion.
- 1:48:21Yeah. Why does it matter that it's a
- 1:48:23sun? They already have a son and a
- 1:48:25daughter. Why is it so important that the
- 1:48:27baby is a boy? He says it's Tom Hagan.
- 1:48:30I think it's because Michael is the sun and Michael wants an air
- 1:48:36to leave this behind. He needs a son to continue this.
- 1:48:40The Corleone family, the the like, whether it's in crime or
- 1:48:45it goes full legitimate, he needs somebody to to follow it.
- 1:48:48So the more sons he has, Anthony, I know, but the more
- 1:48:51sons he has, the higher probability of it succeeding
- 1:48:55because again, misogyny. You can't give it to his
- 1:48:57daughter. It's not their responsibility.
- 1:49:00It's up to his son to carry on the name and also.
- 1:49:03Or or maybe just to add on to that, maybe he was like, Anthony
- 1:49:08will take over this business. Yeah, I'll have another son like
- 1:49:12the way my father saw me, who can be a legitimate, who can
- 1:49:15become a senator, who can be a real man, like a real
- 1:49:17businessman. But knowing Michael and how
- 1:49:20fucked up he is, I think it's just strictly selfish.
- 1:49:24Whatever it is, it has nothing to do with making his kids
- 1:49:27successful. It's just selfish reasons.
- 1:49:30He's a very, very selfish person in this movies, especially in
- 1:49:34the second one, and it's really like, it's crazy.
- 1:49:37Well, he asks Kay, when in that scene she healing on the baby
- 1:49:40sleeping inside me. Does it feel like a boy?
- 1:49:42Yeah. And then what if it's a girl
- 1:49:44would Tom Hagen tells him it's a miscarriage?
- 1:49:47He's like was it a boy? He fucking loses his shit.
- 1:49:50You just found out your wife had a miscarriage and that's your
- 1:49:52first question. Now that's don't get me wrong.
- 1:49:54If you've never, let's say your 4 girls deep and you want a boy
- 1:49:59and it happens to be a miscarriage, I could see someone
- 1:50:02being upset about that. I genuinely can.
- 1:50:04But if you already have one of each.
- 1:50:06He also handles the miscarriage really insensitively.
- 1:50:09He says to her, he's like, you'll forget all about this
- 1:50:11miscarriage and we'll move on. We'll have another baby.
- 1:50:13It's like there are people I know.
- 1:50:15People at that point, he doesn't know what to do.
- 1:50:19Sensitive. I know people that have had
- 1:50:21miscarriages and they're like, I think about it every single day.
- 1:50:23Like, that's a child I lost. Yeah.
- 1:50:25And he's like, oh, you'll forget about it.
- 1:50:26We'll have another kid. It doesn't matter.
- 1:50:28We never have a scene where he sits with her and talks about
- 1:50:31it. Yeah, they they don't.
- 1:50:33They don't. They don't acknowledge it
- 1:50:34together. Yeah, one quote I wish I
- 1:50:37mentioned earlier, but I'm going to mention it now.
- 1:50:40So another quote from Tom Hagan. This committee owes an apology,
- 1:50:44Senator. Senator, this committee owes an
- 1:50:47apology. That's one of the only times see
- 1:50:49Tom get angry. Yeah, I love that.
- 1:50:52That's just such an epic fucking delivery of line from Tom Hagan.
- 1:50:56I love that line. And I mean, supposedly if he was
- 1:50:59innocent, he did deserve an apology even though he wasn't.
- 1:51:02Yeah. So yeah, that scene in the
- 1:51:04Senate hearing when Pacino's reading his statement, I don't
- 1:51:08feel for the guy at all. I did in the past but watching
- 1:51:13it now as a parent and we'll get into this after I fucking like
- 1:51:18this guy is awful. I feel for him a little bit
- 1:51:21because he did fight for his country.
- 1:51:25Yeah, but you're killing people left, right, centre.
- 1:51:27Yeah. OK, let's, let's get into this
- 1:51:29now. Does this hit different as a
- 1:51:30parent? Yeah, yeah, heavily.
- 1:51:35The Paulo death scene, yeah, is upsetting as fuck.
- 1:51:40Yeah, it is. To see that boy lying there
- 1:51:43dead, he went to avenge his father and they killed him.
- 1:51:47Young Vito. Well, young Vito's brother.
- 1:51:49Yeah, young Vito's brother. It's really hard to watch.
- 1:51:51And then also, like, immediately after that, Vito's poor mother
- 1:51:56just lost her child, has to go to Don Ciccio and beg for Vito's
- 1:52:02life. Yeah, Like that's a horrible
- 1:52:04thing to have to do after you just lost one son and he and he
- 1:52:07says no to her. Of course.
- 1:52:09She throws herself in front of her son and and dies for him.
- 1:52:12I would too. Yeah.
- 1:52:14You're not taking another child from me.
- 1:52:16Agreed. I'm not gonna stand here and
- 1:52:18watch you kill my child. I want.
- 1:52:19I don't wanna. Family obliterated.
- 1:52:20Her whole family. I don't wanna live if I can't
- 1:52:22have my family. Fuck you.
- 1:52:23So like that, That was really hard to watch.
- 1:52:25And like her getting blown away by that gun.
- 1:52:28It just like you just know that that is seared into Vito's brain
- 1:52:33as trauma. Is not something that you
- 1:52:37forget. No it's not.
- 1:52:39And I also, I've I felt for young Vito when he goes to
- 1:52:41America alone. Yeah, that part, it's really
- 1:52:44sad. He's sitting in that room by
- 1:52:45himself, just looking out the window.
- 1:52:47Itself. Yeah, because he's trying to
- 1:52:48comfort himself. And I said to you when it shows
- 1:52:51him on the boat going over, I said nobody could go with him.
- 1:52:54Who's gonna go with? Him somebody else likes it
- 1:52:57doesn't have to be a family or like just another person from
- 1:52:59the town that wants to go to America.
- 1:53:02Good, but. Well we don't see anyone with
- 1:53:05him and he doesn't even speak English and that's why they
- 1:53:08messed up his name. Well, there's a bunch of Italian
- 1:53:11people that went, there's immigrants from all over the
- 1:53:13world that were going to the US as refugees, as immigrants and
- 1:53:17stuff like that. So I'm sure.
- 1:53:19And it was a big community. The, I was like, I noticed the,
- 1:53:23the, the, the festival where in the, in the, on the street, the,
- 1:53:27the festival in Little Italy. I was shocked at how big it was.
- 1:53:31Like there's a there's obviously a big presidents Italian
- 1:53:34presence, especially in that time.
- 1:53:36So now it's, you know, Little Italy is there's one in every
- 1:53:40city, you know. Yeah, every major city.
- 1:53:42But yeah, this movie hits different as a parent, namely
- 1:53:47the scene where he says bye to his son and the son's like, can
- 1:53:50I come with you? I want to help.
- 1:53:53That's that seems really like it's sad because the little.
- 1:53:57Boy, I could picture talking to our son, like obviously he's
- 1:53:59much younger, but yeah, it does. It makes you think of your own
- 1:54:02kid. Makes think of your own kid, the
- 1:54:04little drying he left on his dad's pillow.
- 1:54:06Do you like it yes or no? Like that's really, you know,
- 1:54:10that's the relationship he has with his son.
- 1:54:12It's like, you know, he he needs his father's approval.
- 1:54:16It's really sad. And they mentioned, like, Kays,
- 1:54:19like talking about look at our son, Look what's happened to
- 1:54:22him. Look, look what?
- 1:54:23And she's like, look what's wrong with our son?
- 1:54:25And Michael's like, there's nothing wrong with him.
- 1:54:27There's nothing wrong. He's like, I don't wanna hear
- 1:54:29about it. I don't wanna hear about it.
- 1:54:31I wanted to hear about it cause what is?
- 1:54:33It so. What's wrong with it?
- 1:54:35There's nothing mentally wrong. It's because of his
- 1:54:38surroundings, she says in that scene, your button men are his
- 1:54:42friends. He doesn't have any friends.
- 1:54:44He's secluded from society because of the danger that
- 1:54:49Michael Corleone puts his family in.
- 1:54:51He doesn't have any friends. The only people he sees are his
- 1:54:55sister, his immediate family, and then the fucking security
- 1:55:00guards on the compound. So.
- 1:55:03He. There's a scene that was deleted
- 1:55:05where Michael's one mentions that he wants to do something
- 1:55:10really terrible with a gun, and he's just a kid and her KK
- 1:55:17becomes very concerned about the surroundings that he's, I mean,
- 1:55:20your kids are surrounded by this awful, awful shit.
- 1:55:23They're gonna be, you know, if Vito seems like he had them a
- 1:55:27little bit more insulated, they were more insulated from this
- 1:55:31shit. But Michael is just surrounded
- 1:55:34and he's got more enemies. He's more paranoid than Beto's,
- 1:55:37you know what I'm saying? And it makes the Fredo murder
- 1:55:40scene even worse because Fredo and Anthony were really bonding.
- 1:55:44He was, like, talking to him like you would talk to a kid.
- 1:55:46Yeah. Taking him fishing, spending
- 1:55:48time with his. Uncle.
- 1:55:49Giving him attention and I don't think he really got that much
- 1:55:53attention from Michael cause other than the scene where he
- 1:55:55goes into his bedroom to talk to him, yeah, every time he's with
- 1:55:58Michael, he'd like just has to sit there stock still and not
- 1:56:01make a fuss. Yeah, it's really sad.
- 1:56:03It is, it is really sad. And like, there's so many
- 1:56:06factors about this, about being a parent and watching all these
- 1:56:10things happen to this family, you know, the, the, the falling
- 1:56:13apart of the marriage. OK, visiting her children?
- 1:56:17Yeah. She's.
- 1:56:18Holding her daughter, she's like, you're so beautiful.
- 1:56:20You're so beautiful. Connie's like, you have to get
- 1:56:22out of here. Yeah.
- 1:56:23She's having this sweet moment with her daughter.
- 1:56:25And she's like, Anthony, please kiss me because I have to go.
- 1:56:28It's fucking heart wrenching. Like that.
- 1:56:30I would kill myself if that was me.
- 1:56:31Like seriously, I have to be with my children at all times.
- 1:56:34That's so sad. It's it's very sad.
- 1:56:36It's devastating. If you're a parent of and you
- 1:56:38know you have kids, you can definitely relate to what we're
- 1:56:43saying. Yeah.
- 1:56:45It's you. You hate your kids or your.
- 1:56:49Michaels, you're a monster. And you know your children.
- 1:56:51Yeah, maybe. Yeah, this movie, it's
- 1:56:54different. As a parent it's still
- 1:56:56entertaining mob movie but it's fucking dark.
- 1:57:01It's dark, it drags you down more than the first movie.
- 1:57:03The first movie you don't feel quite as as dirty as the.
- 1:57:07Third one, you don't feel as dirty for because of the story,
- 1:57:11but you feel dirty because it's so bad.
- 1:57:16You feel like you need a. Belly it leaves.
- 1:57:17It leaves a mark on you. It's just big shit stain on the
- 1:57:20trilogy. You know what's fucked up?
- 1:57:23The trailer for The Godfather Part 2, the commercial, You
- 1:57:26know, the movie guy voice. Yeah, he says.
- 1:57:28The final conclusion to the Corleone story.
- 1:57:34And then they're like JK. Yeah, they yeah, I think it was
- 1:57:37like 74, but 15 years later, 16 years later, they.
- 1:57:41Made it was in the 90s, in 30 came.
- 1:57:43Out 1990 yeah came out same year as Good fellas.
- 1:57:47Yeah, pretty crazy. Yeah, alright, mom, how many
- 1:57:50Janko cans of olive oil do you give this movie?
- 1:57:54First of all, I want one of those cans of olive oil, the one
- 1:57:58that he brings to John Don Chicha Chicha is.
- 1:58:00Yeah, so. It's so retro looking, so cool,
- 1:58:03and I love that it's in that tin box.
- 1:58:05Like you can't get all of oil like that anymore.
- 1:58:07Not where we live, anyway. They're all bottles.
- 1:58:09Yeah, I want one of those. Yeah, it's pretty.
- 1:58:11Neat just as decoration in my kitchen, but I I give this movie
- 1:58:1610 out of 10 the hands of olive oil.
- 1:58:19Really. Yeah, I said it's it's just as
- 1:58:22good as this. Is this as the first movie?
- 1:58:24I just don't like it as much, but it's still incredible.
- 1:58:28Wow. And deserves 10 out of.
- 1:58:29Time I'm gonna I'm gonna give it a 9.5.
- 1:58:35It's it's got some problems. That olive oils that that can't
- 1:58:38not full yeah I'm. Giving you less?
- 1:58:40Yeah give it 9.5 cans of olive oil.
- 1:58:42One of the cans got punctured and shipping so it leaked.
- 1:58:46Cause the first one is fucking perfect.
- 1:58:49This one is just shy of perfect. The pacing is a little weird.
- 1:58:56The acting is better, I think in a lot of ways.
- 1:59:00Yeah, there's less overacting, but.
- 1:59:02Some of the pacing is a little awkward with the flashback
- 1:59:05scenes. I could.
- 1:59:06See that? The vibe of the first one, the
- 1:59:08scene where Salasso takes Tom Hagan and he's sitting in this
- 1:59:12like almost as like container and it's dark and he's giving
- 1:59:16him a cup of coffee and he just found out that the Don has been
- 1:59:20shot. Like the first one is something
- 1:59:24different. This one is great, but it's it's
- 1:59:29a different movie. It's a different.
- 1:59:30I have to give it its flowers. It takes us on a very
- 1:59:32interesting story that is separate from the first movie,
- 1:59:35but just as compelling. You know what it?
- 1:59:37Is I love young Vito, I love. Him it is a more complicated
- 1:59:40story because you watch it a few times, you trying to figure out
- 1:59:43the little hints, the little nuances, the little tricks that
- 1:59:47you know that you don't notice the first time you watch or the
- 1:59:50first couple times. But yeah, a lot of people call
- 1:59:53this the best sequel ever. I disagree.
- 1:59:56It is one of the best. Equals over 2 is the best sequel
- 1:59:59ever in my. Opinion yeah, I Terminator 2 I
- 2:00:02think is the best people ever. But yeah, we'll we'll review
- 2:00:05that movie end of the day. So that is that for Godfather
