- 0:03Speaker 1: That is impure. And so again, here we see this picture.
- 0:09Speaker 1: She must be pure. This is not just this idea
- 0:14Speaker 1: of not having experienced physical consummation. We're talking about people
- 0:18Speaker 1: here who are married and still walking in purity. Still
- 0:22Speaker 1: walking in purity. Still walking in purity. That is why
- 0:26Speaker 1: when you base your relationship on impurity before you get married,
- 0:30Speaker 1: you compromise the very foundations upon which your marriage is built.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Because you're trying to seek purity, but you built what
- 0:38Speaker 1: you hoped to be pure on a foundation that was not.
- 0:45Speaker 1: You see that? What's interesting is if you want to
- 0:53Speaker 1: know how tall a building is going to be, you
- 0:58Speaker 1: don't have to wait till it goes up. Did you
- 1:00Speaker 1: know that? You engineering guys in here, you know what
- 1:03Speaker 1: I'm talking about. If you want to know how tall
- 1:06Speaker 1: a building is going to be, all you have to
- 1:07Speaker 1: do is see how deep they dig the foundation. If
- 1:13Speaker 1: you're building a skyscraper, you dig deep into the ground.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Because you got to have enough foundation to support that
- 1:22Speaker 1: much of a structure. You're just building a single-story house
- 1:28Speaker 1: for somebody to live in? You don't have to dig
- 1:30Speaker 1: 50 feet into the ground if that's all you want
- 1:34Speaker 1: to build. What kind of marriage do you want to build? Hmm?
- 1:39Speaker 1: You want to build a little bungalow? Or you want
- 1:43Speaker 1: a skyscraper? I want my marriage to be a skyscraper,
- 1:47Speaker 1: which means we have to dig deep, deep, deep in
- 1:53Speaker 1: the foundations. That's what purity is about. And that purity
- 1:59Speaker 1: remains even long after the structure has come up out
- 2:01Speaker 1: of the ground. It has to remain. Biblical womanhood is
- 2:07Speaker 1: about purity. Again, even in the way that we present ourselves. Purity, purity, purity.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Look at the next part of this. And I still
- 2:18Speaker 1: haven't got to what I want to camp out on
- 2:19Speaker 1: a little bit here. We'll get there, all right? Working
- 2:24Speaker 1: at home. Working at home. And let me be clear here.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Does this mean that biblical womanhood says a woman can
- 2:35Speaker 1: never do any kind of work outside of her home? No,
- 2:38Speaker 1: I don't think so. I don't think Proverbs 31 agrees
- 2:40Speaker 1: with that. Okay? I'm not going to make that argument.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I know women, I mean, they have all kind of
- 2:45Speaker 1: stuff that they do outside of their home. And they
- 2:48Speaker 1: do volunteer work and this and that and whatever. Again,
- 2:51Speaker 1: that's not what's being said here. But here is what's
- 2:55Speaker 1: being said here. There is no priority in biblical womanhood
- 3:00Speaker 1: that supersedes the priority of a woman's role in her home.
- 3:06Speaker 1: There is no priority that supersedes the priority of the
- 3:11Speaker 1: woman's role in her home. That's what this means. That's
- 3:16Speaker 1: what this means. Her home is her place of work.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Her home. Hey, if she can find something to do
- 3:27Speaker 1: within the context of her home, praise the Lord. But
- 3:41Speaker 1: that's what she's committed to. I know we don't like this.
- 3:44Speaker 1: We really don't. We don't like this. Matter of fact,
- 3:48Speaker 1: we hate this because we've had an entire movement, an
- 3:52Speaker 1: entire feminist movement that has communicated this to us. Marriage
- 3:56Speaker 1: is bondage. And women have to be equal to men
- 4:00Speaker 1: in every regard. By the way, they're not talking about
- 4:04Speaker 1: equal as far as value and worth. They're talking about
- 4:08Speaker 1: egalitarian as far as roles and everything else with no
- 4:11Speaker 1: distinctions whatsoever. There are tremendous distinctions between men and women.
- 4:16Speaker 1: By the way, those of us who are married can say,
- 4:19Speaker 1: Praise God because it's those distinctions that make it glorious. Hallelujah.
- 4:25Speaker 1: All right? We are not the same. If we were
- 4:26Speaker 1: the same, one of us would be unnecessary. Okay? But sons,
- 4:39Speaker 1: we're looking for women who are committed to the home.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Committed to the home. Not just as a place. Will
- 4:48Speaker 1: they drop their stuff off? Will they go and try
- 4:52Speaker 1: to do whatever in the world? No, they're committed to
- 4:55Speaker 1: the home. It is their priority. They're committed to raising
- 4:58Speaker 1: their children, not to paying somebody else to do it.
- 5:03Speaker 1: They're absolutely committed to their roles as wives and mothers.
- 5:08Speaker 1: And I know that doesn't sit well with us. Why?
- 5:10Speaker 1: Because most of you young ladies have not been raised
- 5:12Speaker 1: to be women. You've been raised to be men who
- 5:15Speaker 1: happen to be biologically capable of having children. And so
- 5:20Speaker 1: you've been taught not to prioritize the home above all else.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I do not apologize for the fact that the scripture
- 5:27Speaker 1: clearly teaches this. That a woman is to prioritize her
- 5:34Speaker 1: home above all else. And whatever else she does, and
- 5:40Speaker 1: that's between, hey, I got my hands full running my
- 5:44Speaker 1: own house. I'm not trying to run yours, okay? Okay?
- 5:48Speaker 1: But whatever else she does, from a biblical perspective, the
- 5:52Speaker 1: principle is that she prioritizes her home. Now, if there
- 5:56Speaker 1: is a husband and a wife over here and the
- 5:57Speaker 1: way that they prioritize their home is, you know, he
- 6:00Speaker 1: has this business and she's a vital part of this
- 6:02Speaker 1: business and she's his helpmate because of her vital part
- 6:05Speaker 1: in this business and that's something that they do together.
- 6:08Speaker 1: You know, they have a mom and pop store and
- 6:09Speaker 1: they live on top and everybody works down and the
- 6:11Speaker 1: kids are all hands on deck, you know, or they
- 6:13Speaker 1: have a farm or whatever. And when it's time for harvest, everybody. Mama, daddy, sons, daughters, dogs, everybody.
- 6:21Speaker 1: You know, it's time for harvest. We all go out
- 6:23Speaker 1: and we harvest. Amen. Hallelujah. Praise the Lord. That's not
- 6:27Speaker 1: the point that I'm making. And the reason I'm camping
- 6:29Speaker 1: out here is because whenever I talk about this, it's
- 6:31Speaker 1: so foreign and offensive to our modern feminist culture that
- 6:36Speaker 1: I want to be clear. And it doesn't matter if
- 6:39Speaker 1: I say it 10 times. There are some of you
- 6:40Speaker 1: who already shut me off because you're mad that this
- 6:43Speaker 1: is even in the Bible. Somebody told you that you
- 6:51Speaker 1: can have it all. The fact of the matter is
- 6:54Speaker 1: you can't. You can't have it all. But that's okay
- 7:02Speaker 1: because you don't need it all. I can't have it all.
- 7:09Speaker 1: But I don't need it all. I want Christ. And
- 7:18Speaker 1: I want his blessings. In generations of my family. And
- 7:23Speaker 1: here's the deal. The more my wife and I have
- 7:26Speaker 1: come to understand what it takes to raise children biblically,
- 7:31Speaker 1: the more we realized it wouldn't even be possible for
- 7:34Speaker 1: us if she was out doing wife swap. We couldn't
- 7:47Speaker 1: do it. It takes so much. We couldn't do it.
- 8:00Speaker 1: That's where her commitment is. That's where her joy is.
- 8:08Speaker 1: That's where her passion is. He talked to my wife
- 8:12Speaker 1: and she says, you know, people always ask me, do
- 8:15Speaker 1: you work outside the home? Do you this? Do you that?
- 8:17Speaker 1: And when I tell them, You know, I'm a homeschool mom.
- 8:19Speaker 1: They kind of get this, you know, oh, bless you.
- 8:22Speaker 1: You know, you're just, you know, for a second. And
- 8:25Speaker 1: she's just going, I have the most incredible calling in
- 8:30Speaker 1: the world. There is no higher calling than that of
- 8:34Speaker 1: being a wife and a mother. God has blessed me
- 8:38Speaker 1: with this body to bring life into the world. and
- 8:41Speaker 1: through adoption to bring other children into our home, and
- 8:45Speaker 1: through the investment of my life, she would say, I
- 8:48Speaker 1: have the opportunity to shape world changers. That's what my
- 8:54Speaker 1: wife does. She shapes world changers. The Lord says that
- 9:04Speaker 1: he gives us quivers filled with arrows. I don't think
- 9:08Speaker 1: it's too much of a stretch of the text. But
- 9:10Speaker 1: I tell my children, we are in the business of
- 9:13Speaker 1: building intercontinental ballistic missiles in our home. And that's what
- 9:18Speaker 1: each one of you is. Each one of you. You're
- 9:21Speaker 1: an ICBM, baby. One day the silo is going to
- 9:25Speaker 1: open up and it's going to be on. You know?
- 9:30Speaker 1: That's what we do. And I could not do this
- 9:33Speaker 1: without my wife being committed, absolutely committed to our home.
- 9:40Speaker 1: My wife's an educated woman, a well-educated woman. She's absolutely
- 9:49Speaker 1: committed to our home. Absolutely committed to our children. Absolutely
- 9:54Speaker 1: committed to making our home the most beautiful and productive
- 9:58Speaker 1: environment it can be. Number one, so that she can
- 10:03Speaker 1: be all that I need so that God can launch
- 10:06Speaker 1: me and use me in whatever ways he sees fit.
- 10:12Speaker 1: And secondly, so that as she and I partner together,
- 10:16Speaker 1: we can raise, train, and disciple people as many children
- 10:20Speaker 1: as is humanly possible to the glory of God. That's
- 10:25Speaker 1: why my wife and I exist. To be poured out
- 10:30Speaker 1: for the cause of Christ, to be thoroughly used when
- 10:35Speaker 1: it's all said and done, and to raise, train, and disciple,
- 10:39Speaker 1: and launch from our home as many, as many warheads
- 10:47Speaker 1: as is humanly possible. Not as few as we can.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Not a boy for me and a girl for you
- 10:54Speaker 1: and praise the Lord we're finally through. No. No, no, no, no, no.
- 10:59Speaker 1: If this is a war, last time I checked, no
- 11:02Speaker 1: warrior goes into battle saying, hey, man, just give me
- 11:05Speaker 1: as little ammunition as you can. You go to war,
- 11:12Speaker 1: you go, wait a minute, I think I got a
- 11:15Speaker 1: sock down here I can put some bullets in. Give
- 11:22Speaker 1: me those two, I'll find somewhere to put them. And
- 11:28Speaker 1: because my wife is committed to our home, that's the
- 11:31Speaker 1: attitude that we can have. Look at the last part
- 11:35Speaker 1: of this and then we'll come back and finish this up.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Working at home, kind and submissive. to their own husbands
- 11:51Speaker 1: that the word of God may not be reviled. Teach
- 11:54Speaker 1: young women to be submissive to their own husbands. Why?
- 11:58Speaker 1: Two reasons. This is very important. Number one, because women
- 12:04Speaker 1: war against submission by nature as a result of the fall.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Women war against submission by nature as a result of
- 12:13Speaker 1: the fall. Look with me here if you will. Let's
- 12:14Speaker 1: go back to Genesis chapter 3, okay? And we'll do
- 12:18Speaker 1: this quickly because I know we've got to do our
- 12:20Speaker 1: Q & A in just a couple of minutes. But
- 12:21Speaker 1: I want you to see this. Genesis chapter 3. And
- 12:27Speaker 1: look at verse 16. Look at verse 16. To the
- 12:36Speaker 1: woman he said, I will surely multiply your pain and childbearing.
- 12:39Speaker 1: In pain you shall bring forth children. And look at
- 12:42Speaker 1: this next one. Your desire shall be for your husband
- 12:45Speaker 1: and he shall rule over you. Your desire shall be
- 12:48Speaker 1: for your husband. Now, if we're not careful, we look
- 12:50Speaker 1: at that word and we think, you know, you shall
- 12:53Speaker 1: have this passionate desire for your husband. You shall want
- 12:57Speaker 1: him and he shall rule over you. If you want
- 13:00Speaker 1: to understand what that phrase means, it's only used three times,
- 13:04Speaker 1: that Hebrew phrase. Another time that it's used, chapter 4
- 13:08Speaker 1: and verse 7. Look at what the Lord says here.
- 13:17Speaker 1: The Lord said to Cain, why are you angry? And
- 13:20Speaker 1: why has your face fallen? Verse 7, if you do well,
- 13:24Speaker 1: will you not be accepted? And if you do not
- 13:27Speaker 1: do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire
- 13:31Speaker 1: is for you, but you must rule over it. Same phrase.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Sin's desire is for you. Wife, your desire shall be
- 13:44Speaker 1: for your husband. That phrase means as a result of
- 13:49Speaker 1: the fall, women, you will desire his headship. You will
- 13:54Speaker 1: desire his role. And yet, he will rule over you.
- 14:00Speaker 1: So as a result of the fall, number one, you
- 14:02Speaker 1: are naturally disinclined to submit to a husband. Secondly, in
- 14:09Speaker 1: addition to this result of the fall, we also have
- 14:13Speaker 1: now decades of of feminist teaching, not just outside the church,
- 14:18Speaker 1: but even inside the church. Feminist teaching on egalitarianism. That
- 14:23Speaker 1: somehow this submission is a couple of things. Number one,
- 14:27Speaker 1: it's either mutual, or number two, it's conditional. It's mutual
- 14:32Speaker 1: or it's conditional. And let's take these two in turn
- 14:35Speaker 1: as we talk about submission here. Because we don't, again,
- 14:38Speaker 1: we don't like it. We really don't. Ladies, I know
- 14:41Speaker 1: you don't like submission. You don't have to tell me that.
- 14:43Speaker 1: You don't like it. As a result of the fall,
- 14:45Speaker 1: you don't. However, if you're a new creature in Christ,
- 14:48Speaker 1: you ought to have a different attitude towards submission. And
- 14:58Speaker 1: so the idea of mutual submission. We go back to Ephesians.
- 15:03Speaker 1: In Ephesians chapter 5, verse 21. A lot of people
- 15:06Speaker 1: look at that and they say in verse 22, it says, wives,
- 15:08Speaker 1: be subject to your own husbands. But before that, you
- 15:10Speaker 1: have verse 21. Be subject to one another. Okay? Fear
- 15:15Speaker 1: and reverence for Christ. And so when we look at
- 15:18Speaker 1: verse 21 in Ephesians chapter 5, we say, see here,
- 15:20Speaker 1: you're supposed to be subject or submissive to one another.
- 15:24Speaker 1: So husbands and wives are both supposed to submit to
- 15:26Speaker 1: one another. And so they make the argument for mutual
- 15:28Speaker 1: submission there. Small problem. Verse 22 is the beginning of
- 15:34Speaker 1: a paragraph. Verse 21 is the end of a paragraph.
- 15:39Speaker 1: You can't put the beginning of a paragraph in context
- 15:41Speaker 1: by using the end of another paragraph. You got to
- 15:44Speaker 1: use the whole paragraph itself. So when you go back
- 15:48Speaker 1: to the beginning of the paragraph that ends with verse 21,
- 15:51Speaker 1: you go back to Ephesians chapter 5 beginning of verse 15.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Now when you get there, you see a pattern. In
- 15:56Speaker 1: the pattern, you see three threes. First of all, you
- 15:58Speaker 1: see three contrasts. Then you see on the third contrast,
- 16:02Speaker 1: three commands. And on the third command, three contexts. All right?
- 16:07Speaker 1: And so we have these three contrasts. Look at them
- 16:12Speaker 1: beginning in verse 15 of Ephesians chapter 5. Look carefully
- 16:19Speaker 1: then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,
- 16:21Speaker 1: making the most of your days because the days are evil.
- 16:23Speaker 1: So don't be unwise but be wise. Look at the
- 16:26Speaker 1: next one, verse 17. Therefore don't be foolish but understand
- 16:29Speaker 1: what the will of the Lord is. Second contrast, don't
- 16:31Speaker 1: be foolish, understand what the Lord's will is. Contrast number
- 16:34Speaker 1: three comes in verse 18. Don't be drunk with wine
- 16:37Speaker 1: but be filled with the Spirit. Now on the third contrast,
- 16:39Speaker 1: not drunk with wine but filled with the Spirit, We
- 16:41Speaker 1: get three commands. What are those three commands? Command number one.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Verse 19, addressing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs,
- 16:55Speaker 1: making melody to the Lord in your heart. Be filled
- 16:59Speaker 1: with the Spirit. Well, how do I do that? Number one.
- 17:03Speaker 1: You do that by addressing one another with psalms, hymns,
- 17:06Speaker 1: and spiritual songs and making melody in your heart. It'd
- 17:09Speaker 1: be interesting if somebody said, I'm a spirit-filled believer. And
- 17:12Speaker 1: you go, great. Let's worship and make melody to the
- 17:16Speaker 1: Lord together. Nah, I'm not much for worshiping and making
- 17:19Speaker 1: melody to the Lord. But you're spirit-filled? Look at the
- 17:23Speaker 1: second one, verse 20. Giving thanks always for everything to
- 17:26Speaker 1: God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 17:29Speaker 1: I'm a spirit-filled believer. Great. Join me. Let's pray and
- 17:33Speaker 1: just give thanks to God for a while. I'm not
- 17:35Speaker 1: much for prayer and thanksgiving. But you're spirit-filled? Verse 21.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. So
- 17:50Speaker 1: submission to a proper God-given authority is evidence of a
- 17:54Speaker 1: spirit-filled life. Now you get verse 22. But remember I
- 17:59Speaker 1: said three contrasts. Three commands and then three contexts. What
- 18:04Speaker 1: are the three contexts of submission? Wives to husband, children
- 18:08Speaker 1: to parents, servants to masters. In neither one of those
- 18:12Speaker 1: is it mutual. And none of those is it mutual.
- 18:20Speaker 1: There you have it. It's not there. And when we
- 18:24Speaker 1: see it in 1 Peter chapter 3, there is no
- 18:26Speaker 1: statement of Of mutual submission in 1 Peter chapter 3.
- 18:31Speaker 1: When you see it in Colossians chapter 3 again, no
- 18:34Speaker 1: statement of mutual submission. The husband is never called to
- 18:37Speaker 1: submit to his wife. The wife is called to submit
- 18:39Speaker 1: to her husband. There is headship. 1 Corinthians chapter 11.
- 18:42Speaker 1: What do we find there? What does Paul say? The
- 18:45Speaker 1: head of every man is Christ. The head of every
- 18:49Speaker 1: woman is a man. There's headship there. And God doesn't
- 18:55Speaker 1: apologize for that headship. Well, okay, if it's not mutual,
- 19:02Speaker 1: then it has to be conditional. Well, Ephesians chapter 4,
- 19:05Speaker 1: verse 22. Wives, submit to your own husbands as to
- 19:07Speaker 1: the Lord, for the husband is the head of the wife,
- 19:09Speaker 1: even as Christ is the head of the church, his body,
- 19:11Speaker 1: and himself its Savior. So now as the church submits
- 19:14Speaker 1: to Christ, so wives submit to their husbands in what? Everything.
- 19:21Speaker 1: In everything. Again, we talked earlier about the law of God.
- 19:25Speaker 1: So he says you go out and you're an ax
- 19:26Speaker 1: murderer and you kill all these people. You're not obligated
- 19:29Speaker 1: to do that, but you're even submissive in the way
- 19:33Speaker 1: that you don't go out and build an atomic bomb
- 19:36Speaker 1: and commit ax murders, okay? Well, okay, that's fine, but
- 19:41Speaker 1: it has to be, you know, only if he is
- 19:44Speaker 1: doing what he's supposed to do, right? If he's not
- 19:46Speaker 1: doing what he's supposed to do, then I don't have
- 19:48Speaker 1: to be submissive to him. If he's not doing what
- 19:50Speaker 1: he's supposed to do, turn with me to the right,
- 19:52Speaker 1: 1 Peter chapter 3. Likewise, wives, be subject to your
- 20:10Speaker 1: own husbands so that even if some do not obey
- 20:13Speaker 1: the word, they may be won without a word by
- 20:18Speaker 1: the conduct of their wives. Well, if he's not doing
- 20:24Speaker 1: what he's supposed to do, then I don't... It doesn't
- 20:29Speaker 1: get clearer than that. It doesn't get clearer than that.
- 20:34Speaker 1: In fact, I can even make it clearer... than that
- 20:38Speaker 1: immediate context. The first word he uses there is likewise.
- 20:42Speaker 1: What do you mean, likewise? Glad you asked. Go to
- 20:47Speaker 1: the beginning of that paragraph just before and look at
- 20:51Speaker 1: verse 18 of chapter 2. Servants, be subject to your
- 20:55Speaker 1: masters with all respect, not only to good and gentle,
- 20:59Speaker 1: but also to the unjust. That's what he's referring to
- 21:04Speaker 1: when he says likewise in chapter 3, verse 1. for
- 21:07Speaker 1: the submission of wives. Now, marinate on that for a while.
- 21:22Speaker 1: We don't like that. I'll end with this. My wife
- 21:29Speaker 1: is a highly educated woman who has laid down all
- 21:33Speaker 1: of her pursuits in order to submit herself to my
- 21:40Speaker 1: vision for our family. My wife does not contradict me
- 21:47Speaker 1: in front of others. She shows me that respect and
- 21:52Speaker 1: that honor. My wife communicates to our family and to
- 22:01Speaker 1: others the vision that I have established for our family.
- 22:08Speaker 1: My wife has forsaken other opportunities for independent fulfillment and
- 22:15Speaker 1: use of her gifts in order to put those gifts
- 22:21Speaker 1: in subjection to me and my vision for our family. Now,
- 22:25Speaker 1: I say those things and feminism cringes. But what if
- 22:30Speaker 1: I tweak those things just a little bit? And what
- 22:35Speaker 1: if I change the two players? And it's no longer
- 22:38Speaker 1: me and my wife. It's Dr. Condoleezza Rice and President Bush.
- 22:44Speaker 1: And I say the same phrases. Dr. Rice is a
- 22:48Speaker 1: highly educated woman who is employing her education for the
- 22:52Speaker 1: benefit of President Bush. Secondly, Dr. Rice does not contradict
