Transcript
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hey, congratulations, did Jeff Ken Hall of Famer? Did you
- 0:15Speaker 1: see that one coming? Not that he wasn't going to
- 0:16Speaker 1: get in, but that.
- 0:17Speaker 2: It was just having having a long time?
- 0:19Speaker 1: I agree, I've been a very big job. What am
- 0:23Speaker 1: I missing at second base? With that kind of it?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Was the all time leader in Homers.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Just got an m v P. You gotta World Series.
- 0:28Speaker 3: It's not forget you forget you got a World Series?
- 0:30Speaker 1: Blue Jake, he was on.
- 0:32Speaker 2: He was on the one of those teams.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Wasn't he really?
- 0:35Speaker 4: I thought he was.
- 0:36Speaker 1: You might be right, but I don't know what what.
- 0:39Speaker 2: It was missing?
- 0:41Speaker 3: I don't know what what what else he needed to
- 0:44Speaker 3: do other than get elected and he was quick?
- 0:47Speaker 2: Did he not win a World Series?
- 0:49Speaker 1: Crowds h Yes, Wait he got a ring? He was
- 0:52Speaker 1: on the he was on Toronto, was on.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Three.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Wait, oh did he go? He went to the Mets?
- 1:00Speaker 1: So did they deal him away? But he got a
- 1:01Speaker 1: ring for it?
- 1:02Speaker 2: If you're on the team, he got a ring.
- 1:03Speaker 1: No, I know that, but I'm saying he wasn't on
- 1:05Speaker 1: the team at the end of the year. It doesn't matter.
- 1:07Speaker 1: But yes, anyway, point is Kratz. I think we all agree.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Jeff Kent deserve to be on there. He wasn't getting
- 1:13Speaker 1: as much attention during this exact run. I felt like
- 1:16Speaker 1: there was a lot of Don Mattingley and del Murphy talk,
- 1:18Speaker 1: and a lot of course Bondan Clemens talk. You know
- 1:21Speaker 1: who actually got the second most love was Carlos Delgatto.
- 1:24Speaker 1: That's another guy I agree, and and Kratz. We didn't
- 1:28Speaker 1: get into it's a ton last week. But when you
- 1:31Speaker 1: do match up Don Mattingley's numbers in Carlos del Vala,
- 1:33Speaker 1: you're like, Okay, Delgado needs to be in over him. Yeah,
- 1:37Speaker 1: over Donnie. If we're looking at first base and you're.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Going but here's the thing, if you're if we're going
- 1:41Speaker 3: mass numbers, right, But for that, for those six or
- 1:44Speaker 3: seven years, Don Mannigan was like unbelievable.
- 1:46Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, accumulating numbers.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't understand. I don't know.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Obviously, there's a lot of people right now that are
- 1:53Speaker 4: fans of baseball and never saw Jeff Kent play. I
- 1:56Speaker 4: saw him play. I know a j played against him.
- 1:59Speaker 4: I never played against him. Let's put this way. For
- 2:01Speaker 4: him not to have gotten in by now, he must
- 2:03Speaker 4: have really had to have pissed in somebody's corn flakes
- 2:07Speaker 4: that I don't know about, because I mean, when you're
- 2:10Speaker 4: talking numbers like three hundred and seventy seven homers from
- 2:14Speaker 4: the second second base position, the fact that he was
- 2:17Speaker 4: a ops plus of one twenty three, twenty three percent,
- 2:21Speaker 4: better than everybody during his era, better than everybody during
- 2:27Speaker 4: the steroid era. This dude banged and for him not
- 2:32Speaker 4: to have been in was a travesty. But it's taken
- 2:36Speaker 4: care of more second basemen, more catchers in the hall.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Please agreed. But here here's my other thing. You know, listen,
- 2:42Speaker 3: everyone was talking maddingly and Dale Murphy, who I also
- 2:46Speaker 3: both believe both of those guys should be in. I
- 2:49Speaker 3: just I don't know how certain guys got under five votes.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Barry Bonds under five votes. Right votes.
- 2:57Speaker 2: The people on this committee can vote for three people.
- 2:59Speaker 2: It's okay, So you're telling.
- 3:04Speaker 5: By who, though by people in that room, okay, but
- 3:07Speaker 5: players are by.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Well, probably there's more players in the room than anyone else,
- 3:11Speaker 1: although there's also front office executives. So you go down
- 3:13Speaker 1: the line, and there was a stance by a group
- 3:16Speaker 1: of people that said, I'm going to vote for others
- 3:18Speaker 1: instead I'm not going to touch that category.
- 3:20Speaker 2: That's okay, what what category is that?
- 3:23Speaker 1: That is the pe ed era category very clearlyspected, yes, suspected, Well,
- 3:32Speaker 1: no p d ERA. I'm just saying p D ERA players.
- 3:36Speaker 3: And there's here's here's the problem I have with this.
- 3:38Speaker 3: In listen, I'm probably get killed for saying this, but
- 3:41Speaker 3: I don't.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Really care at this point.
- 3:43Speaker 3: The players on this committee players, okay, And I looked
- 3:47Speaker 3: them up and it was Juan Marichelle, Robinel and Alan Trammell,
- 3:50Speaker 3: Fergie Jenkins, uh jeez, who will Tony Ferez, Jim Cott.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Most of these guys I know, and in respect the
- 3:58Speaker 3: hell out all these guys. But my problem is as
- 4:01Speaker 3: a former player, and I played in the heart of this, Okay,
- 4:04Speaker 3: I was, I was in the beginning of my career.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Was this and then it got cleaned up, right. I've
- 4:08Speaker 3: said on the record, if you got tested positive after
- 4:11Speaker 3: two thousand and five, then you're out for me, right.
- 4:13Speaker 2: If you did it before, I don't know.
- 4:14Speaker 3: But for these former players that were sitting in this room,
- 4:17Speaker 3: and my question is, if you're looking at Barry Bonds,
- 4:21Speaker 3: you're looking at Roger Clemens and you're looking at Gary
- 4:23Speaker 3: Sheffield and you're looking at some of these guys that
- 4:25Speaker 3: are alleged to take steroids. Right then, I'm gonna ask
- 4:28Speaker 3: all these players this question. Did any of you guys
- 4:31Speaker 3: take a greenie.
- 4:33Speaker 1: That's a different category though, why They're gonna tell you
- 4:35Speaker 1: why why.
- 4:36Speaker 2: It's the same exact thing.
- 4:37Speaker 3: They took a ped that is now, So if you
- 4:42Speaker 3: took one in your career, then you're the same.
- 4:44Speaker 2: As these guys.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Did you say cocaine?
- 4:47Speaker 4: Yes, I mean, because the argument is going to be
- 4:49Speaker 4: the argument is going to be, oh well, steroids was
- 4:52Speaker 4: illegal when it wasn't tested for we was the steroids
- 4:55Speaker 4: were illegal, So we're just bringing everything guys.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I'm just saying, okay, I'm just saying, if you if
- 5:04Speaker 3: you can look at it, trust me, you can ask players.
- 5:06Speaker 3: And I was again, I was in the middle of this.
- 5:08Speaker 3: More people when I played, and I was in the
- 5:11Speaker 3: middle of before and after, more players complained about greenies
- 5:14Speaker 3: being taken away than they did steroids. Because greenees on
- 5:17Speaker 3: a day to day basis affected you more and more
- 5:21Speaker 3: guys could That's how you got excited for the game.
- 5:23Speaker 3: More guys took those than they did, and that's why
- 5:26Speaker 3: adderall became such a big thing.
- 5:27Speaker 2: For years.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Guys were like, oh, man, I gotta get on adderall.
- 5:30Speaker 3: I know, it was an outrageous amount of baseball players
- 5:32Speaker 3: that were on adderall legally, right, But if.
- 5:35Speaker 2: You were again, this is my whole argument.
- 5:37Speaker 3: If you took anything illegal, that is illegal and not
- 5:40Speaker 3: allowed now by Major League Baseball, and that's everyone says, oh,
- 5:44Speaker 3: they weren't against the rules in baseball, but they were legal.
- 5:46Speaker 3: A greenee you can't just get right, and there was
- 5:48Speaker 3: all there was green ones, pink ones, black ones. There's
- 5:51Speaker 3: all these different bills you could take. So if you're
- 5:54Speaker 3: a former player and you ever took any of these, pete.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Rose, you got to draw some type of line.
- 6:00Speaker 2: It's the same.
- 6:01Speaker 1: It don't pay for you to categorize. So you're saying
- 6:03Speaker 1: steroids and greenees both not allowed, right, illegal to just
- 6:08Speaker 1: be popping those, that's the same category.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Yes, okay, okay, and there now now they're banned.
- 6:15Speaker 3: If if it's not a performance enhancing drug, why do
- 6:18Speaker 3: guys get in trouble for taking one?
- 6:21Speaker 2: You're still get a penalty.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Now, yeah, Now, if if you get caught using greenies,
- 6:25Speaker 1: you get I'm.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Sorry, But to me, that's the problem I held with
- 6:28Speaker 3: this whole thing, like, why of these former players and
- 6:30Speaker 3: they're all Hall of famers and they're better players than I.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Was, so please don't use that against me.
- 6:35Speaker 3: But to me, if I'm as a former player, right,
- 6:38Speaker 3: I look at it and I say, okay, I know
- 6:40Speaker 3: what I did, okay, and I can't look down upon guys.
- 6:43Speaker 3: I took a green. I did one.
- 6:45Speaker 2: I took one green.
- 6:46Speaker 1: That's it.
- 6:46Speaker 3: One because I shocked, yes, and I'm not gonna get
- 6:49Speaker 3: int the store. It's a funny story. But I took one,
- 6:51Speaker 3: and I thought I was gonna.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Have a hard text. I never took another one. Yeah,
- 6:54Speaker 2: too much, okay, But.
- 6:57Speaker 3: For me to look at a guy who took who
- 6:59Speaker 3: I don't even know what they took and say, oh man,
- 7:01Speaker 3: he's bad. I'm in the Hall of Fame, but he's bad,
- 7:04Speaker 3: and I'm not letting him into my club. Well, unless
- 7:07Speaker 3: you didn't take anything in your career, And it's hard
- 7:09Speaker 3: for me to look at anybody.
- 7:10Speaker 1: And say that Royds looked at differently. And I'm just
- 7:13Speaker 1: telling you the case. And we should bring on someone
- 7:15Speaker 1: that was in that room. So you guys can go
- 7:17Speaker 1: back and forth. That's part of what this show is
- 7:18Speaker 1: all about. But I'm just telling you as the messenger
- 7:21Speaker 1: here that Rouds are looked at differently. There's a line
- 7:24Speaker 1: that's drawn. Those are like the poster boys for that era,
- 7:27Speaker 1: and that's why this is occurring. It's all good points,
- 7:30Speaker 1: but at some point, yeah, we should get into it
- 7:32Speaker 1: with someone. We are back on Foul Territory and finally
- 7:39Speaker 1: taking a breath for a moment. Here we're in Orlando.
- 7:42Speaker 1: All kinds of people are passing by us, and we'll
- 7:44Speaker 1: try and get insight from them if it's somebody important.
- 7:47Speaker 1: But for Charge the Mound today, I think it is
- 7:50Speaker 1: worth spending a little bit of time on Kyle Schwarber
- 7:53Speaker 1: and all that surrounds him. Does he return to the Phillies.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Is there a surprise team that gets involved for him?
- 7:59Speaker 1: He is such a popular person. Anybody that you talk
- 8:03Speaker 1: to brings that part up. But let's also not forget
- 8:05Speaker 1: Krats as you see it in Philly very often, how
- 8:09Speaker 1: powerful he is and how he kind of looked better
- 8:12Speaker 1: than ever this past season. I think that's what's getting
- 8:14Speaker 1: people excited too, is do we have someone that's going
- 8:17Speaker 1: to age like Big Poppy? I mean, in terms of
- 8:21Speaker 1: production stats wise, Big Poppy never really tailed off.
- 8:24Speaker 2: I think you do. I think he's that guy.
- 8:27Speaker 1: So if that's the case, what happens here? And is
- 8:31Speaker 1: that why he's being talked about so much despite being
- 8:33Speaker 1: a DH Where often you can get to this point
- 8:35Speaker 1: in your career krats and they're throwing one or two
- 8:37Speaker 1: year deals at you. Schwarber's gonna get five and feel
- 8:40Speaker 1: free to mix in that. We're bringing this up because
- 8:43Speaker 1: the Pirates reportedly offered him four years and maybe something
- 8:47Speaker 1: above one hundred million bucks. Ken Rosenthal putting that in
- 8:50Speaker 1: his notes column yesterday. I'm gonna go with JB here
- 8:54Speaker 1: because I commented right after it was posted yesterday Kratz,
- 8:57Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, hey, Pirates, welcome to the dance. For
- 8:59Speaker 1: the first time, you're gonna throw an offer out there
- 9:02Speaker 1: that you know is not going to get it done.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Like usually it's like, if you're Pittsburgh and you know
- 9:07Speaker 1: you got to state a strong case, you better really
- 9:10Speaker 1: put it together and do something strong. Force him to
- 9:13Speaker 1: say nowhere, at least put something out there that you
- 9:15Speaker 1: know is going to be at the top of the
- 9:19Speaker 1: competitive offers. This is not going to be that they
- 9:22Speaker 1: like Jim Boden said, you need to offer six at
- 9:24Speaker 1: least five. The fact that they put a four out there,
- 9:27Speaker 1: to me means they don't know what they're doing in
- 9:31Speaker 1: the hot stone world.
- 9:33Speaker 4: All right, well, you you made two comments there, one
- 9:36Speaker 4: Schwarber as a player in person on the market to
- 9:39Speaker 4: the pirates. So I'll first address the pirates part of it.
- 9:42Speaker 4: The pirates are like that dude who went to a
- 9:44Speaker 4: charity option, knew he had no chance of getting anything
- 9:48Speaker 4: that was out there, and was like talking to somebody
- 9:51Speaker 4: like this as they were bidding, and he just like
- 9:54Speaker 4: scratched his head and they were like, right there in
- 9:56Speaker 4: the red hat, we got we got four years, one
- 9:58Speaker 4: hundred million. And the pirate like, oh boy, somebody else
- 10:02Speaker 4: is gonna offer right like, we don't. We don't have
- 10:05Speaker 4: that money. We we I'm I'm not in going once
- 10:09Speaker 4: go it. Oh boy, this is bad. So no, the
- 10:11Speaker 4: pirates aren't gonna get Swarber. That was cool if they
- 10:14Speaker 4: really wanted them, and they really didn't want to make
- 10:16Speaker 4: this whole this like a whole like case of like,
- 10:19Speaker 4: oh see, small market teams. To me, it feels like
- 10:23Speaker 4: a Major League Baseball ploy, like oh, small market teams
- 10:27Speaker 4: like the Pirates. They tried on Kyle Schwarber. We tried
- 10:32Speaker 4: so hard, but it's just not fair. We weren't able
- 10:35Speaker 4: to go quite far enough. So that to me is
- 10:37Speaker 4: just whatever you're out Kyle Swarber as a player. The
- 10:41Speaker 4: fact that at this age guys like him only get
- 10:44Speaker 4: maybe a two year deal shows what we were talking
- 10:47Speaker 4: about with JB. What he means in the clubhouse. But
- 10:51Speaker 4: to me, I think it more means what kind of
- 10:54Speaker 4: changes he made last year, the fact that he lowered
- 10:57Speaker 4: his strikeout rate, the fact that he hit the most
- 11:00Speaker 4: left on left home runs. Because he's a DH. I
- 11:04Speaker 4: doubt any team that's in contention is gonna say, Kyle,
- 11:08Speaker 4: we need you to play left field for two years,
- 11:10Speaker 4: then you'll be a DH for the last three to
- 11:12Speaker 4: four years of his contract. He made those He made
- 11:15Speaker 4: those adjustments because teams can't afford to lock up DH
- 11:20Speaker 4: for five years at thirty million a year. And for him,
- 11:25Speaker 4: he did this, and he continues to do this. He
- 11:27Speaker 4: continues to pursue what makes him a better hitter and
- 11:31Speaker 4: what makes him be the best, most valuable hitter on
- 11:33Speaker 4: the field. And he's that much. He's valued that much
- 11:37Speaker 4: in the clubhouse too.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Hey, I got a question for your crotzy. We're talking
- 11:41Speaker 3: about the pirates, right what what what changed for the pirates?
- 11:45Speaker 2: What changed for the pirates?
- 11:47Speaker 3: And now they have to spend this money because for
- 11:49Speaker 3: years all we heard was we can't spend money. Did
- 11:51Speaker 3: they find a pot of gold at the end.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Of a rainbow?
- 11:53Speaker 1: No, there's a really good or.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Did MLB go to him like they did with another
- 11:58Speaker 3: team and say you have to spend it. We're and
- 12:00Speaker 3: there's big grievance filed against you.
- 12:02Speaker 1: That's the answer. You're asking crats to ask me. I'm
- 12:05Speaker 1: the nerd.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Okay, I'm asking both of you all.
- 12:07Speaker 1: That's why there thousand billion percent the answer. They have
- 12:10Speaker 1: to do it. The lockout is looming a year away.
- 12:12Speaker 1: So this is one of those forced pushes, just like
- 12:15Speaker 1: it was last year with the A's that they have
- 12:17Speaker 1: to do this. It's also in their best interest because
- 12:19Speaker 1: if they don't do this, there is an internal battle
- 12:24Speaker 1: and how Steinberner is the prime example. He speaks about
- 12:27Speaker 1: this publicly. He'd like to see the dollars that he
- 12:29Speaker 1: gives those teams actually go towards player payroll in the competition.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Versus it being shoved in a pocket. So anyway, add
- 12:35Speaker 1: that all up, we can go all day on that way.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Has any Mark just put a great point in the chat?
- 12:40Speaker 3: No team ever has been more eager to tell everyone
- 12:43Speaker 3: they're making.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Offers, but they're not real, they're not.
- 12:47Speaker 3: What Jim Boden said was the best thing ever, because
- 12:49Speaker 3: we say it all the time. If you're the Pirates
- 12:50Speaker 3: and you haven't won and forever, you have to go
- 12:53Speaker 3: over and above to get these players. They're not just
- 12:56Speaker 3: gonna wake up more and be like Kyle Swarber is
- 12:58Speaker 3: not gonna wake up one morning and go you know,
- 13:00Speaker 3: I got an offer from the Phillies, I got an
- 13:02Speaker 3: offer from the Pirates, and I got an offer from
- 13:05Speaker 3: what the Yankees. So I'm just throwing a random third
- 13:07Speaker 3: team out there, and he's gonna say I'm going to
- 13:10Speaker 3: the Pirates.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Yep, that's it. I want to be different. I want
- 13:12Speaker 1: to do something different to finish my career. Wait, Kratz,
- 13:15Speaker 1: I loved your analogy. I'm going to play to it
- 13:17Speaker 1: even a little bit more. I think they're at the
- 13:20Speaker 1: auction and it's a high priced item that's super popular.
- 13:25Speaker 1: You know it's going to go for a lot. So
- 13:27Speaker 1: what do you do within the first second, You raise
- 13:29Speaker 1: your hand and you just do one of the first offers,
- 13:31Speaker 1: because then you can say, hey, I bid on it too.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I eventually lost, but I did bid on it too,
- 13:36Speaker 1: right because kind of the first one that has been
- 13:39Speaker 1: publicly shifted out there for Schwarber, we haven't heard any team,
- 13:43Speaker 1: you know, they just remember Nailor.
- 13:45Speaker 2: We tried on Naylor. We tried were the fifteen million
- 13:48Speaker 2: short Ken sed.
- 13:49Speaker 1: They didn't actually formally even make the offer.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, so you're, hey, that's cute.
- 13:55Speaker 1: And the one good thing Crats I don't want to
- 13:57Speaker 1: completely trash them because it's easy to do it all
- 13:59Speaker 1: the time. The one good thing is I do actually
- 14:01Speaker 1: think that they're going to break their curse and they're
- 14:04Speaker 1: going to sign someone that is going to be more
- 14:07Speaker 1: than a von Nova. Right, this is the last time
- 14:09Speaker 1: that they've given out a multi year contract. I think
- 14:11Speaker 1: they will do a two plus year deal to someone,
- 14:14Speaker 1: and I actually do think they'll also beat what I
- 14:16Speaker 1: believe is their highest free agent price ever, which was
- 14:19Speaker 1: three years thirty nine for Francisco Leriano. I think they
- 14:22Speaker 1: will be both of those things because tis this season
- 14:24Speaker 1: they have to do it with the lockout looming.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Yes, I agree with you. I think they're going to
- 14:30Speaker 4: make a splash. And I think part of the reason,
- 14:32Speaker 4: you know you said maybe what is what has changed?
- 14:35Speaker 4: You know what you have, Paul schemes. You have a
- 14:37Speaker 4: golden ticket. You do have a pot of gold at
- 14:40Speaker 4: the end of the rainbow that is going to be
- 14:43Speaker 4: gone in two years. That is going to be gone
- 14:45Speaker 4: and possibly a year and a half if you don't
- 14:47Speaker 4: make some kind of splash, not a five year or
- 14:49Speaker 4: a four year splash, maybe more in the two to
- 14:52Speaker 4: three year range. But you want for me, I say history,
- 14:58Speaker 4: who has ever needed to do this? Who has ever
- 15:00Speaker 4: needed to make a splash that You're like, Man, I
- 15:03Speaker 4: can't believe it. I will always bring up the Jason Worth.
- 15:06Speaker 4: Jason Worth called his ex teammates with Philly and said,
- 15:11Speaker 4: how can I not? He's like, I want to come back,
- 15:14Speaker 4: I want to sign back. You got to remember they
- 15:16Speaker 4: were in the middle of that run where they were
- 15:19Speaker 4: winning the Division, they had won the World Series, they
- 15:22Speaker 4: had gone to the World Series, they lost to the Giants,
- 15:25Speaker 4: and Jason Worth got offered one hundred and twenty some
- 15:28Speaker 4: million dollars for seven years. His next closest offer, from
- 15:32Speaker 4: what I heard, was seventy seven million. So if the
- 15:36Speaker 4: Pirates want to get in on somebody, not saying as Schwarmer,
- 15:40Speaker 4: but somebody that's going to change their franchise as far
- 15:44Speaker 4: as like ooh, now I want to go there because
- 15:46Speaker 4: they got Paul Skeens and this player, it has to
- 15:49Speaker 4: be in that realm. You're talking about over fifty million
- 15:52Speaker 4: dollars that the Nats had to offer Jason Worth three
- 15:56Speaker 4: extra years to make them come to relevance, and that
- 16:00Speaker 4: was twenty ten eleven, and they didn't win till twenty nineteen.
- 16:05Speaker 4: So you've got to make this. You got to make
- 16:07Speaker 4: some kind of splash that's gonna be more than what
- 16:10Speaker 4: is gonna be on the market.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Agreed.
- 16:13Speaker 3: What did Jim Buden say about the Tigers. They went
- 16:15Speaker 3: out and got Pad Rodriguez and they overpaid him, and
- 16:17Speaker 3: everyone's like, why did you pay? And then they went
- 16:19Speaker 3: out and got Maglio the next year, And in two
- 16:21Speaker 3: thousand and six they were in the World Series because
- 16:23Speaker 3: they had Verlander and they Kenny Rodgers, and they went
- 16:26Speaker 3: and got all these guys that Carlos Gian remember, they
- 16:29Speaker 3: brought him over.
- 16:30Speaker 2: And it was like, Wow, the Tigers are really trying.
- 16:32Speaker 3: And then when they made another run, they went out
- 16:34Speaker 3: and got Prince Fielder and they went out and got
- 16:37Speaker 3: that whole crew of guys.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Right, you can change the narrative pretty quick, pretty quickly,
- 16:41Speaker 1: especially in a central division.
- 16:44Speaker 4: And with schemes, and with schemes like looking.
- 16:47Speaker 3: And Jarret Jones and Bubba Chandler and Mitch Keller already there.
- 16:51Speaker 1: You have a top two pitcher in the sport.
- 16:54Speaker 4: I'll say I'll say that the Pirates may even be
- 16:57Speaker 4: more set up than what the Tigers. We're set up
- 17:01Speaker 4: last not this season, last season to go on a
- 17:04Speaker 4: run because of the fact that they have Jared Jones,
- 17:06Speaker 4: they have those pitchers, and they have schemes. Who is
- 17:08Speaker 4: their schoobul who has shown he's actually been more dominant
- 17:13Speaker 4: than what Scooble has. So you've seen what teams can do.
- 17:17Speaker 4: Add to it a little bit like like do something,
- 17:20Speaker 4: don't waste it again?
- 17:24Speaker 1: Okay, AJ mentioned the Tigers, Let's go there next. By far,
- 17:31Speaker 1: the biggest trade would be if Trek Scouble gets moved,
- 17:36Speaker 1: whether it's this week or not. I mean, I also
- 17:38Speaker 1: want to be real with everyone. The Winter meetings are awesome.
- 17:41Speaker 1: There's no obligation for anything to happen during these three days.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Sometimes it's chaos, sometimes nothing happens. Just letting you know.
- 17:48Speaker 1: It's not like there's some deadline or something. But we're
- 17:49Speaker 1: all here, the industries here. It is cool. But just
- 17:52Speaker 1: throwing that out there in case you're like, well, they
- 17:55Speaker 1: said that this might happen and didn't happen. Oh, it
- 17:57Speaker 1: could happen a month from now. Trek Scoogle was written
- 18:03Speaker 1: about by Ken Rosenthal this morning and the Tigers in general,
- 18:07Speaker 1: and how if they're going to keep him, you gotta
- 18:10Speaker 1: take your best shot to win in twenty twenty six.
- 18:12Speaker 1: You have the best pitcher in the American League. Well,
- 18:15Speaker 1: if you have school, you'll get more if they okay
- 18:18Speaker 1: and get reinforcements. And then the other side of the
- 18:21Speaker 1: coin is if you don't trade him, if they don't
- 18:24Speaker 1: if they do trade him.
- 18:26Speaker 2: If they do trade him, then.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Who's going for him?
- 18:29Speaker 2: Dodgers Yankees?
- 18:32Speaker 1: Oh man, if the Dodgers get Dodgers get Trekschoob, they're
- 18:35Speaker 1: going to be so bussed.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Remember how the Dodgers r in baseball last year?
- 18:39Speaker 1: Well, guess what, here's the thing. If the Dodgers get
- 18:42Speaker 1: Trek Scougle, they did not outbid every other team money wise,
- 18:46Speaker 1: they outbid them prospect wise, right, that that's what it
- 18:50Speaker 1: would be in. Maybe some major league talent involved in
- 18:52Speaker 1: there as well. But if that's the case, other teams
- 18:55Speaker 1: didn't make it good enough.
- 18:56Speaker 3: If they get him and they're running Yamamoto school snell Glass, now,
- 19:00Speaker 3: holy crap, I don't want to hit. I don't want
- 19:02Speaker 3: to play in that series. Yeah, I'm I'm gonna have
- 19:04Speaker 3: the back crass my back, oh man, my back all
- 19:07Speaker 3: of a sudden.
- 19:08Speaker 1: If I'm a team crafts like the let's just say
- 19:11Speaker 1: the Blue Jays because they lost to them just now
- 19:12Speaker 1: in the World Series. I'm like, hey, the trade. If
- 19:14Speaker 1: you're really trading him, and the Dodgers have the best
- 19:16Speaker 1: to offer, call me at the end and I'll do
- 19:19Speaker 1: something so dumb. I'll unload like my farm system and
- 19:23Speaker 1: and a major league pitcher just right, just to prevent it.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Because that's the thing. I mean, they pick at the
- 19:30Speaker 1: back of the draft. They don't get as much money
- 19:34Speaker 1: to spend in the draft. Like the draft is the
- 19:36Speaker 1: most capped system there is, and the Dodgers still are
- 19:39Speaker 1: pumping out prospects. So if that happens, the rest of
- 19:41Speaker 1: the league fucked up.
- 19:44Speaker 4: I mean, in my opinion, like you stopped at you
- 19:46Speaker 4: stopped at the Yankees and Dodgers when you were talking
- 19:48Speaker 4: about teams, because I mean, you can throw the Blue
- 19:52Speaker 4: Jays in there, the Phillies have to be in there.
- 19:54Speaker 4: There's there's even small market teams. You're talking about a trade.
- 19:58Speaker 4: You're talking about the that you have a guy who
- 20:01Speaker 4: took a team who when you take him off of
- 20:04Speaker 4: that team doesn't make the playoffs, when you take him
- 20:07Speaker 4: off of that team doesn't win a playoff series. And
- 20:11Speaker 4: you've seen what the Tigers have done. So to me,
- 20:13Speaker 4: it's not just those big market teams. To me, if
- 20:17Speaker 4: the Brewers don't trade, if the Brewers don't trade Freddy Peralta,
- 20:21Speaker 4: the Brewers should trade for scoobl It's one year, it's
- 20:24Speaker 4: a prospect, it's prospects that you're getting rid of. And
- 20:28Speaker 4: if they do it now in the offseason, whatever team
- 20:30Speaker 4: would trade for him, you're getting a draft pick in
- 20:33Speaker 4: the end, because he's gonna sign for three hundred plus
- 20:36Speaker 4: million dollars.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Prospects are all suspects. But here's the thing.
- 20:40Speaker 1: So let's take the other side of this. Ken wrote
- 20:42Speaker 1: this morning. I'll summarize, but if you're Detroit and you're
- 20:46Speaker 1: keeping him, and you're deciding I'm not going to get
- 20:49Speaker 1: a massive return for one year of one of the
- 20:51Speaker 1: best pitchers in the sport, then you're assuming right. You're
- 20:55Speaker 1: aiming for a World Series title. You need to be
- 20:58Speaker 1: able to look at your roster and say, yep, I
- 21:00Speaker 1: did everything that I could do. Even if you need
- 21:02Speaker 1: to scale it back next year, payroll, whatever it is,
- 21:05Speaker 1: that's fine. You're telling yourself this is the season. So
- 21:08Speaker 1: if you are doing that. He pointed out how their
- 21:11Speaker 1: front office leader, Scott Harris can be somewhat risk averse
- 21:15Speaker 1: and look for diamonds in the rough. I know, but
- 21:17Speaker 1: some more than others. And he said, look at the
- 21:20Speaker 1: trade deadline last year, avoided getting uncomfortable, and look at
- 21:23Speaker 1: some of the other things that he's done in prior offseasons.
- 21:25Speaker 1: He did make a push for Alex Bregman, so you
- 21:27Speaker 1: would think maybe they get involved with someone like that again,
- 21:29Speaker 1: but I think the point was valid. You either sit down.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I think he needs to sit down with his ownership group,
- 21:34Speaker 1: Chris Ilich, and he needs to say, hey, are we
- 21:36Speaker 1: going hard this offseason? If not, we should trade Terrek Scouple.
- 21:40Speaker 3: Listen, Almost every GM is risk averse now because they
- 21:43Speaker 3: don't want to be the one that gave up this
- 21:45Speaker 3: player and he became something they don't want to be.
- 21:48Speaker 3: They don't want to be Aj Preller.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Right.
- 21:50Speaker 3: Preller gave up his players and if some of them
- 21:53Speaker 3: turned into something, you know what, But he's like, I
- 21:55Speaker 3: screw it, I went for it, right. You don't want
- 21:57Speaker 3: to be the guy who gave up Tatis for James Shields, right,
- 22:00Speaker 3: and if you get a ring.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Like kratz Issayan, it doesn't matter.
- 22:03Speaker 3: But I just every we've had this, and we've had
- 22:07Speaker 3: this conversation on the show all the time. More gms
- 22:10Speaker 3: are afraid and talk themselves out of making the move
- 22:14Speaker 3: instead of just making the move. Just make the move.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Just if you want the player, like you Bote and
- 22:18Speaker 3: just here. If you like the player and you want
- 22:20Speaker 3: the player, go get the player. Worry about the restlator
- 22:25Speaker 3: I've never asked. I've never asked Gymnast because I know
- 22:27Speaker 3: what his answer would be. But if you're a GM,
- 22:30Speaker 3: do you want to say, Man, did I do it great?
- 22:33Speaker 3: For seven years? I built up one of the best
- 22:35Speaker 3: farm systems that I could ever. Do you know what
- 22:38Speaker 3: we had a we had we won fifty four percent
- 22:40Speaker 3: of the time. Or do you want to say, you
- 22:42Speaker 3: know what, I worked for four years, we got a ring,
- 22:46Speaker 3: or you know what I worked for four years just
- 22:49Speaker 3: fell short.
- 22:51Speaker 4: I pushed it. It was the time I look at
- 22:53Speaker 4: I look at the I look at the Tigers and
- 22:55Speaker 4: the Brewers, and I say, if the Brewers don't trade
- 22:59Speaker 4: for Terry Scoogle, then the Tigers are trade for Freddie
- 23:03Speaker 4: Peralta like like you sit there and you go there's
- 23:06Speaker 4: times when teams could be one starting pitcher away from
- 23:12Speaker 4: giving this team in this city the best chance to
- 23:14Speaker 4: win a World Series. And I have a hard time,
- 23:17Speaker 4: and maybe this is because I'm an I'm an idiot
- 23:20Speaker 4: player ex player. I have a hard time believing that
- 23:23Speaker 4: is the wrong thing to do, because this is your window,
- 23:27Speaker 4: this is your chance. You're never gonna get an opportunity
- 23:31Speaker 4: to sign a guy for five years, one hundred and
- 23:33Speaker 4: fifty million, so you might as well go for it
- 23:37Speaker 4: in this way. There's different ways to go for it
- 23:39Speaker 4: and financially, the long term deals to Kyle Tucker or
- 23:43Speaker 4: Show Hey are never gonna happen for your org, bring
- 23:46Speaker 4: it to bring the championship to your city this way.
- 23:51Speaker 1: So what do you want to do if you're Detroit
- 23:53Speaker 1: right over the weekend?
- 23:54Speaker 3: They before we talk to Troit, I want to ask
- 23:58Speaker 3: Kratz and you a question. There was a guy we're
- 24:02Speaker 3: gonna have on the show tomorrow. He is the new
- 24:04Speaker 3: general manager president baseball offs of the Saint Louis Cardinals.
- 24:09Speaker 3: He went to Boston, Okay, built up their farm system.
- 24:14Speaker 3: All the guys if we're all talking, Roman Anthony, Marcelo Meyer,
- 24:17Speaker 3: he's the one they drafted and developed them all right,
- 24:19Speaker 3: he got shit canned?
- 24:21Speaker 2: Right?
- 24:21Speaker 3: Sorry him, you're out, Craig brosely In ask him, well,
- 24:24Speaker 3: ask him tomorrow. What do you think he would rather do?
- 24:27Speaker 3: If he looks back on it. They told him to
- 24:29Speaker 3: trade Mookie Betts, they told him build up the farm system.
- 24:31Speaker 3: He did all those things. Doesn't have a choice, but
- 24:34Speaker 3: he didn't win and they got.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Rid of him.
- 24:35Speaker 3: So do you think he's like, damn? If I would
- 24:37Speaker 3: have just traded Marcelo Meyer in Roman Anthony and got
- 24:40Speaker 3: better players at the big league level that were ready
- 24:42Speaker 3: at that time, I'd still have that job. That's basically
- 24:46Speaker 3: what krat is saying. And we have the perfect guy
- 24:47Speaker 3: coming on tomorrow in heim Bloom who did that, got
- 24:50Speaker 3: let go, and now he's gonna have to do it
- 24:52Speaker 3: again in Saint Louis. This guy knows that he has
- 24:55Speaker 3: the map to how.
- 24:55Speaker 2: To do this.
- 24:56Speaker 1: That's why it's a tough job though, because you have
- 24:58Speaker 1: to thread the needle. You do not have the it's
- 25:00Speaker 1: say news flash, the owner does. So he has to
- 25:04Speaker 1: listen to the owner who says, hey, you gotta trade
- 25:06Speaker 1: Mookie bets.
- 25:07Speaker 2: You're the guy.
- 25:07Speaker 1: You got to do it, and he might say, hey,
- 25:09Speaker 1: I'd rather actually trade some prospects. Re signed Mookie long term.
- 25:13Speaker 1: It's not up to him. And then you have to
- 25:14Speaker 1: thread the needle of getting them to the next great
- 25:17Speaker 1: red tax team, even though you were just given like
- 25:21Speaker 1: a really bad directive, and if you don't, you're out
- 25:25Speaker 1: and they move on to the next person. Okay, for
- 25:27Speaker 1: the Tigers, I mean, I'm just throwing this out there.
- 25:28Speaker 1: We're not gonna spend a lot of time on this,
- 25:30Speaker 1: but they signed a guy named Drew Anderson. He had
- 25:32Speaker 1: been overseas for four years. One of the better pictures
- 25:35Speaker 1: in the KBO We're seeing a lot of this lately.
- 25:37Speaker 1: There are more they.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Were able to sign, they got the deadline came where
- 25:41Speaker 3: they were able to become like basically free agent.
- 25:43Speaker 1: So that's why right then they they come over. So
- 25:46Speaker 1: you know, has improved himself out there, high strikers, blah
- 25:48Speaker 1: blah blah. That's great, might be a starter. Now let's
- 25:52Speaker 1: talk deep end. What should the Tigers do if they're
- 25:56Speaker 1: keeping Trek Scoogle that is realistic for them. I think
- 25:59Speaker 1: an other Big Boys starter with s Google And what
- 26:02Speaker 1: are we doing with the offense?
- 26:05Speaker 3: They strike out so much?
- 26:10Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. So so you want then, I mean,
- 26:12Speaker 1: ideally you want to contact slug Guy because that's the
- 26:15Speaker 1: perfect that.
- 26:16Speaker 3: I mean, there's a guy that plays third base that
- 26:19Speaker 3: their manager has a very long history with that's a
- 26:23Speaker 3: free agent this year that they didn't get.
- 26:25Speaker 1: And they got closed last year.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Yes, continued Bragman would look really nice in that lineup.
- 26:31Speaker 1: It would look very nice. And my understanding was the
- 26:35Speaker 1: Tigers pumped out a number from their computer projections and said,
- 26:39Speaker 1: we're sticking to this. We don't believe that he's got
- 26:41Speaker 1: something better.
- 26:42Speaker 2: How did that guy not good?
- 26:44Speaker 1: Not good?
- 26:44Speaker 3: They just thing, if they would have had one more hitter,
- 26:46Speaker 3: they could have won that series against Seattle.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Exactly mean school pitch, great toys and lost.
- 26:51Speaker 1: That was the difference.
- 26:52Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 26:53Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 26:56Speaker 2: That's what he said.
- 26:57Speaker 1: That's what he said. I wish Kratz was here for
- 27:03Speaker 1: this right now, but he had to jump. He played
- 27:05Speaker 1: with Sonny Gray on the Yankees and he's always got
- 27:07Speaker 1: good insight there. But he's not here, so we get
- 27:10Speaker 1: to talk about it. The drama that nobody saw coming.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Sonny Gray's tenure with the Yankees has become a back
- 27:17Speaker 1: and forth battle.
- 27:18Speaker 2: You know what.
- 27:18Speaker 3: I just I haven't really paid attention to this because
- 27:21Speaker 3: Sonny Gray didn't pitch very well in New York and
- 27:23Speaker 3: he didn't really enjoy his time. He's basically just said that,
- 27:26Speaker 3: and now it's gonna turned into a whole big thing,
- 27:27Speaker 3: which I love. And you know what, he gave his
- 27:30Speaker 3: opinion and not everyone loves it. Every part I played
- 27:32Speaker 3: in some play, I played in some places where you
- 27:34Speaker 3: didn't exactly love it, But you know what, good for
- 27:37Speaker 3: Sonny Gray.
- 27:38Speaker 1: But there's more to it because of the aftermath. I
- 27:40Speaker 1: don't know if you got all these quotes. So Brian
- 27:42Speaker 1: Cashman spoke and said, when Sonny was with the A's,
- 27:46Speaker 1: he was telling our minor league video coordinator, the Yanks
- 27:51Speaker 1: minor league video coordinator, you gotta get me over to
- 27:54Speaker 1: the Yankees. Tell cash get me over to the Yankees.
- 27:57Speaker 1: I want out of Oakland. I want a championship. And
- 28:00Speaker 1: cash later went on to basically say that his agent
- 28:04Speaker 1: told him to do that, to lie that he wanted
- 28:06Speaker 1: to get over there. His agent, Boe McGuinness, actually gave
- 28:11Speaker 1: a statement out this morning. He said, so Brian is
- 28:13Speaker 1: trying to make people believe I told Sonny to, in
- 28:17Speaker 1: Cashman's words, lie to the minor league video guy to
- 28:21Speaker 1: try to get Sonny to the Yankees, even though per Cashman,
- 28:23Speaker 1: Sonny did not want to be with the Yankees, to
- 28:26Speaker 1: subsequently somehow help Sonny's free agency. This makes zero sense. Further,
- 28:32Speaker 1: the words I want to I want out of Oakland
- 28:34Speaker 1: have never been said by Sonny. He loved his time
- 28:36Speaker 1: with the A's. See now it's on. Did you hear
- 28:39Speaker 1: all that? I now it's on. That's what's going on.
- 28:44Speaker 2: I didn't still work for the Red Sox. How are
- 28:46Speaker 2: you boy?
- 28:48Speaker 1: So?
- 28:49Speaker 2: Uh yeah, I just minor league video guy now makes trades.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Who side are you on?
- 28:58Speaker 2: I don't know. I think it's great for people are
- 29:00Speaker 2: talking about this, but.
- 29:01Speaker 1: This is a this is a head to head battle.
- 29:03Speaker 1: You've got a player ramped.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Who feels on Bostle ramped up.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I love it. Right. Clearly, Sonny didn't like.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Well, he didn't pitch well, and he wasn't happy in
- 29:14Speaker 2: New York.
- 29:15Speaker 1: But Cashman said he never wanted to go there. According
- 29:18Speaker 1: to the lies that were told by Sonny to try
- 29:23Speaker 1: and get himself over there to help his free agent case.
- 29:27Speaker 2: I don't know that.
- 29:28Speaker 1: But here's the thing. Fran Cashman's like a long time
- 29:31Speaker 1: executive with the Yankees. Why is he throwing that out there?
- 29:33Speaker 1: And then your guys's.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Gotta have backing on it. He's not just throwing it
- 29:36Speaker 2: out there.
- 29:37Speaker 1: And I love the candor from him. But the other
- 29:41Speaker 1: side is like, make this make sense, funny?
- 29:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, I don't. I don't know.
- 29:47Speaker 3: I can't make this make sense because if Sonny Gray
- 29:50Speaker 3: went and said I want to go to the Yankees, okay, well,
- 29:53Speaker 3: then when he got there he wasn't very happy. But
- 29:55Speaker 3: Cashman said he didn't want to come to the Yankees
- 29:57Speaker 3: and when they're in there a story where he was
- 29:59Speaker 3: supposed to go somewhere else in the last minute, the
- 30:01Speaker 3: Yankee stepped in and got them I believe.
- 30:02Speaker 4: So.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I think Kratz actually was the one who shared
- 30:05Speaker 1: the day.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Yeah, so I love it. I love it.
- 30:10Speaker 3: I love when gms and players get into it because
- 30:13Speaker 3: doesn't happen ever, especially over guys that were pretty good
- 30:16Speaker 3: and they went to a team. And but I don't know,
- 30:19Speaker 3: I think there must be some too, because Brian Cashan
- 30:22Speaker 3: disitually doesn't say these things, and then Sonny Gray also
- 30:24Speaker 3: never says anything either, So there's got to be somewhere.
- 30:27Speaker 3: And you know, there's three sides of every story. His side,
- 30:30Speaker 3: Scott side, and the truth side.
- 30:31Speaker 1: There's four sides because we have the player rap in
- 30:34Speaker 1: Bob too, the agent. We don't see agents come out
- 30:37Speaker 1: like this or not many of them. Of course, you know,
- 30:39Speaker 1: we have Scott Boris on the show. He's pretty public
- 30:42Speaker 1: with his comments. Many other agents stay behind the scenes.
- 30:45Speaker 1: And this pissed someone off so much that they felt
- 30:48Speaker 1: like they needed to defend themselves. Yeah, and tell their
- 30:52Speaker 1: side of the story. Yes, that's good stuff. Yes, for
- 30:55Speaker 1: our purposes. What are we really going to figure out here?
- 30:58Speaker 1: We're going to figure out that this year when Sunny
- 31:01Speaker 1: Gray gets to face the New York Yankees, we have juice.
- 31:05Speaker 1: That's all. It is.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Three or four times when he gets the face added juice,
- 31:08Speaker 2: just fire, fire every time.
- 31:10Speaker 3: When they're on every Fox game on Saturday, in every
- 31:13Speaker 3: ESPN game on Sunday Night. Oh wait no, they don't
- 31:15Speaker 3: have you Sunday Night anymore. Do the NBCNBC, NBC.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Sunday Night Yankees, Red Sox Yankees, Red Sox, Gray.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Verse, cash Man. It's on the battle, all right, next
- 31:26Speaker 1: up on. That's what he said. Nick Castellanos is open
- 31:30Speaker 1: to learning to play first base if someone wants him
- 31:33Speaker 1: to do that. It is no secret that he has
- 31:38Speaker 1: not looked at in high regards for his defensive work
- 31:42Speaker 1: in the outfields, and there was some battles about that.
- 31:44Speaker 3: He can still hit. He wasn't comfortable this year. So listen,
- 31:47Speaker 3: if he wants to play first base and he thinks
- 31:49Speaker 3: it'll help him, great, if there's a team out there
- 31:51Speaker 3: that needs a rain hitting first baseman, hitch you thirty doubles.
- 31:56Speaker 2: I don't mind this trick. He's not making that much.
- 32:00Speaker 1: No, he is making a lot, but the team that
- 32:02Speaker 1: he goes much will hold up. Hold up. The team
- 32:04Speaker 1: that he goes to next is not going to pay
- 32:06Speaker 1: that much. There are some true they'll pay it down,
- 32:10Speaker 1: they'll pay most of it down. There are some thoughts
- 32:12Speaker 1: that no team is actually going to take it, and
- 32:15Speaker 1: that some team is just like, I'll convince him to
- 32:17Speaker 1: take a league minimum deal. After those two part ways,
- 32:20Speaker 1: what is pretty evident at this point is that the
- 32:22Speaker 1: Phillies will not have him on next year's roster, whether
- 32:24Speaker 1: that's via trade or buy out. That basically just pays
- 32:28Speaker 1: him to go back to free agency, and then they
- 32:30Speaker 1: make up the league minimum money. Right the Phillies would
- 32:33Speaker 1: essentially just save like eight hundred K because he'll sign
- 32:35Speaker 1: with some other team. So that's the debate right now.
- 32:38Speaker 1: And if there's a team that is really interested him,
- 32:40Speaker 1: they could say, hey, we'll take on you take on
- 32:43Speaker 1: everything except for I'm just making up a number two
- 32:45Speaker 1: million bucks, right, so we'll take him on a two
- 32:47Speaker 1: million dollar deal, which gets us the player. So that's
- 32:50Speaker 1: all that's going on here. I agree, I think the
- 32:53Speaker 1: numbers weren't great offensively for him this year, but there
- 32:56Speaker 1: was a lot going on. Clearly was bad.
- 33:00Speaker 3: He didn't get off to a great start. Him and
- 33:03Speaker 3: Topper clearly had something happening. And Nick just wants to
- 33:06Speaker 3: play every day and and I think kind of be
- 33:09Speaker 3: left alone. We've had him on the show and he's
- 33:11Speaker 3: a great interview because he gives you a ton of
- 33:13Speaker 3: quotes and he says a lot of good stuff. But
- 33:15Speaker 3: there are times where he just wants to play and
- 33:17Speaker 3: be left alone. And then you know if you ask
- 33:19Speaker 3: him a question, he's going to give you the answer.
- 33:20Speaker 3: When they asked him about the communication thing, remember he said,
- 33:22Speaker 3: well there hasn't been any which is pretty We want
- 33:25Speaker 3: people to be honest. He was pretty honest about it,
- 33:28Speaker 3: but it didn't sit well with Philly fans. And let's
- 33:30Speaker 3: not forget he got some big hits for them down
- 33:32Speaker 3: the stretch. He got the big hits for them in
- 33:34Speaker 3: the playoffs. Right, So this dude can still do it.
- 33:38Speaker 3: He just needs to go to a place and if
- 33:40Speaker 3: it's not Philly where he's comfortable and play, just plays.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Let Nick Cassiano's cook.
- 33:47Speaker 3: I know people are gonna say, oh, I didn't have
- 33:49Speaker 3: that great year, he had a good year.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Well, it's the defense I mean, yes, the offense wasn't
- 33:53Speaker 1: nearly as good as it's been in some past seasons,
- 33:58Speaker 1: but I do agree. I think this is still a
- 34:00Speaker 1: bat that can be effected in the major leagues. I
- 34:03Speaker 1: get it on the defense side, but the way that
- 34:07Speaker 1: most of the front offices work these days, AJ is
- 34:10Speaker 1: that they look at the defense and then that adds
- 34:12Speaker 1: into the war number. And his war number this year
- 34:15Speaker 1: was last out of one hundred and forty five five
- 34:17Speaker 1: players on fangrafts. I'm just the reason I'm bringing it
- 34:21Speaker 1: out or bring it up is because it is good.
- 34:24Speaker 1: I'm telling you what is used to evaluate him, and
- 34:27Speaker 1: my teams will say, well, you want me to pay
- 34:30Speaker 1: down what for a negative war player. That's just what's
- 34:33Speaker 1: going on right now.
- 34:34Speaker 2: I know.
- 34:35Speaker 1: So I do think he'll latch on with another team.
- 34:37Speaker 1: I think the Phillies probably will trade him, but they will.
- 34:40Speaker 1: I mean, he's making twenty mil next year, the Phillies
- 34:42Speaker 1: will eat. My guess is at least eighteen ish million,
- 34:47Speaker 1: because most teams are saying he's not more than a
- 34:50Speaker 1: league minimum guy right now based off last year's okay metrics.
- 34:54Speaker 1: That's all. So he's down to I never expected him
- 34:57Speaker 1: to not say that that he wouldn't what's he gonna say?
- 35:00Speaker 1: And I will not move positions, No, of course not.
- 35:04Speaker 1: This isn't the Rafael Dever situation a little bit different,
- 35:08Speaker 1: but it was worth bringing up.
- 35:13Speaker 2: You might have to buy it though.
- 35:16Speaker 1: All right, what do we have here today? The winning division?
- 35:19Speaker 1: So as in the team that will represent the National
- 35:22Speaker 1: League in the World Series. And these are your odds,
- 35:24Speaker 1: and i'll Central plus three sixty n L East plus
- 35:27Speaker 1: one sixty NL West plus one ten.
- 35:31Speaker 2: I just I like the I don't like these odds.
- 35:32Speaker 1: A better right, because there's not enough values. We got the.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Dodgers in the west, right the East, you have the Mets, Phillies, Braves.
- 35:40Speaker 3: In the central you have Cubs, Birds, Reds, Reds. Are
- 35:44Speaker 3: they gonna beat the other teams.
- 35:45Speaker 1: And the other that's probably not.
- 35:46Speaker 3: That's where unless they make some serious moves. But I mean,
- 35:50Speaker 3: the pick is the Central. You're gonna throw money down, right,
- 35:53Speaker 3: but to me, until I said it last year, until
- 35:57Speaker 3: someone beats the Dodgers.
- 36:00Speaker 1: So here's the thing. We break down almost anything that
- 36:03Speaker 1: you can touch on the futures market. Then you just say,
- 36:06Speaker 1: you know what, this is a category that I'm not really.
- 36:08Speaker 2: We found a couple, We found a couple that we
- 36:10Speaker 2: could bet.
- 36:11Speaker 1: We found plenty, And I just want to make it
- 36:13Speaker 1: clear with people. It's like when we bring up a
- 36:14Speaker 1: board like this, sometimes I look at the board and
- 36:16Speaker 1: I'm like.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Nah, if you just have money to burn and bet
- 36:19Speaker 2: on the West.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Because it's basically plus money, it's even money, but it's
- 36:25Speaker 1: even money.
- 36:26Speaker 2: So if you want to hunter down and win ten
- 36:28Speaker 2: bucks maybe down the road or even even the East,
- 36:31Speaker 2: take a shot on the East.
- 36:32Speaker 1: No, one hundred down and win one ten not.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Ten yeah, yeah, well yeah, get your yeah.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Sorry, So you have basically double your money, but you
- 36:39Speaker 1: need yeah, the Dodgers or do you think there's another
- 36:41Speaker 1: team Here's where it goes. Do you think there's another
- 36:43Speaker 1: team in the NL West that would give you a
- 36:47Speaker 1: little bit of quote insurance versus just putting it on
- 36:49Speaker 1: the Dodgers alone. That's the whole name.
- 36:51Speaker 3: And depending on what the Giants do, uh, Padres aren't
- 36:56Speaker 3: going to probably do a whole lot.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Yeah, but that to me, I'm always yeah, I'm always
- 37:03Speaker 1: intrigued by the bull Backs. Maybe yeah, San Diego's got
- 37:06Speaker 1: the bullpen to carry you in the playoffs. But this year.
- 37:08Speaker 1: It was the offense. I mean it was a short series,
- 37:10Speaker 1: but there wasn't much offense from them, and it was
- 37:13Speaker 1: actually a problem during the year.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Yeah, they didn't have much pop either. They still don't.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Not like it went out and got more pop.
- 37:21Speaker 1: No, I mean fairly anybody has done anything. But that
- 37:24Speaker 1: is something they should try and solve, is can you
- 37:26Speaker 1: find some offense even if it sacrifices some other things
- 37:28Speaker 1: like defense or contact. They specifically, I think we're bottom,
- 37:34Speaker 1: I know, bottom five, if not bottom three in home
- 37:36Speaker 1: runs like that's it's not good enough, not in today's world.
- 37:40Speaker 1: So anyway, bet MGM wants to give you another chance
- 37:43Speaker 1: at first touchdown scores, so you can get a little
- 37:46Speaker 1: second chance for motion your stick back in cash if
- 37:49Speaker 1: your first touchdown scorer scores second instead, and also up
- 37:53Speaker 1: to fifteen hundred dollars paid back in bonus bets if
- 37:56Speaker 1: you don't win and you're a new player using the
- 37:58Speaker 1: bonus offer. Foul foul gambling problem or concern called one
- 38:03Speaker 1: eight hundred gambling in the weeds. Let's go through more
- 38:15Speaker 1: of the notes column for Ken Rosenthal, and there are
- 38:17Speaker 1: articles coming out fast and furious during the show. Of course,
- 38:20Speaker 1: we'll get to some of those newest. I mean, if
- 38:23Speaker 1: there's news, we're hitting it. But if there's reports and columns,
- 38:27Speaker 1: we'll get to them tomorrow. But Ken was talking about
- 38:30Speaker 1: Kansas City outfield shopping. Ideally they'd like to get two.
- 38:36Speaker 1: It sounds like Kyle Isbel could still be the answer
- 38:38Speaker 1: for them in center, although if they found an upgrade,
- 38:41Speaker 1: I'm sure they would dance there. I think they might
- 38:42Speaker 1: be in on Harrison Vader. We've seen that float around,
- 38:46Speaker 1: and they would like to ideally sign one and trade
- 38:49Speaker 1: for one.
- 38:52Speaker 2: Yes, they still.
- 38:53Speaker 3: Think when we had Jim Boden on Cagli, they still
- 38:56Speaker 3: think he can be a star. But then where do
- 38:58Speaker 3: they go from there? I mean that's kind of been
- 38:59Speaker 3: the problem, right is Whi's great, Salvey's getting older. The
- 39:06Speaker 3: cal Franco had a nice year. They traded for India.
- 39:10Speaker 3: He didn't do anything for him.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Mike Michael Garcia, mikel Garcia, Michael Franco did play for
- 39:15Speaker 1: the Royals.
- 39:16Speaker 2: Yeah, kids in the head.
- 39:19Speaker 3: He never did cal Garcia. Sorry, uh, but yeah, they
- 39:24Speaker 3: need offense. I mean, Vinnie got off the slow start,
- 39:26Speaker 3: picked it up down the stretch. But where do they
- 39:28Speaker 3: find the offense got to come from the outfield.
- 39:31Speaker 2: And they have good pitching. They have.
- 39:33Speaker 3: They figured out a bullpen with Ersig and some of
- 39:35Speaker 3: these other guys that they threw out there. But where
- 39:37Speaker 3: do they get the offense? And that's always been a
- 39:39Speaker 3: thing in Kansas City. They've always been able to pitch
- 39:41Speaker 3: because the way they the ballpark get playing. But can
- 39:43Speaker 3: they find enough offense, especially power, because that is not
- 39:46Speaker 3: a home run hitters park. And when the years they won,
- 39:49Speaker 3: they had fast dudes, they could hit doubles and triples
- 39:51Speaker 3: and run all over the park, playing credible defense in
- 39:53Speaker 3: the outfield, and they had just enough homers. Mistakas bored
- 39:57Speaker 3: and Salve right Osmer. So can they replicate that they
- 40:02Speaker 3: have the pitching, can they take the next especially if
- 40:05Speaker 3: Reagan's Buba shays it what he does, walka Lugo are
- 40:08Speaker 3: healthy again, They're.
- 40:10Speaker 2: In there in the right division.
- 40:11Speaker 3: We keep going back to this, but the division matters,
- 40:14Speaker 3: the AL Central matters versus the Alas. Wow, Yeah, he
- 40:17Speaker 3: put the Royals in the AL East or fifth place team,
- 40:20Speaker 3: like you don't even think about it, fifth place, but
- 40:23Speaker 3: in the Central they can win the division.
- 40:25Speaker 1: You got a shot. Yep, that's true, and hey, two
- 40:28Speaker 1: years ago, the AL Central really shines. Number of teams
- 40:32Speaker 1: made it to the playoffs, right, and the got the
- 40:38Speaker 1: round The Guardians got through what two rounds?
- 40:40Speaker 2: Well, the Yankees took out the whole Ale Central.
- 40:42Speaker 1: Yeah, they just they were like, you're not as good
- 40:44Speaker 1: as us. You're not as good as us, not a
- 40:46Speaker 1: playing to your point, you would not do as well
- 40:48Speaker 1: in our division, you would not do as well.
- 40:50Speaker 2: The Tigers had a chance against Americas loss.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah right. It's not knocking the whole division general.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Just your comp of some of those teams in the
- 40:58Speaker 1: AL East I think is accurate. It makes sense. But
- 41:01Speaker 1: for Kansas City, sure, they have to work around budget restraints.
- 41:06Speaker 1: They can't go big game shopping. Some of the names
- 41:08Speaker 1: that can put out in his note column are not
- 41:13Speaker 1: that sexy.
- 41:16Speaker 3: I mean, the thing is all about what do you
- 41:19Speaker 3: wanted to give up to get what you need.
- 41:21Speaker 1: I'll give you some of the names. So he said,
- 41:23Speaker 1: I'm just gonna read from what Ken roade. Among free agents,
- 41:26Speaker 1: a reunion with mike Y Stremsky is one avenue. They're exploring.
- 41:30Speaker 1: A Doolie scarcia, Max Kepler and Mike Takman or among
- 41:33Speaker 1: the other free agents they could pursue.
- 41:35Speaker 2: You mentioned Mike Takman. I'm just not on the Royals.
- 41:39Speaker 3: If the White Sox are gonna non tender, And why
- 41:41Speaker 3: didn't they train him as the trade dedife. He had
- 41:43Speaker 3: an interest, they could have got something for him.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Are you talking about Mike Takman or Luis Robert Mike?
- 41:49Speaker 2: We'll start with Mike talking.
- 41:50Speaker 1: But that's my point is clearly they've got something else
- 41:52Speaker 1: going on there where they feel like they need to
- 41:55Speaker 1: hold the guy they get their asking for Mike.
- 41:58Speaker 3: DFA, DFA, when did he get the fae right?
- 42:04Speaker 1: But so they wrote out the second half with him,
- 42:07Speaker 1: They wrote out the second half with him, and I
- 42:09Speaker 1: guess they were gonna see what it looks like or
- 42:12Speaker 1: what you just said would probably get disputed, right, It
- 42:15Speaker 1: would probably get disputed by them being like, oh no,
- 42:17Speaker 1: there weren't any offers. But you're saying there were offers.
- 42:20Speaker 2: For who Robert for talk?
- 42:22Speaker 3: I'm sure somebody would have taken Mike talk. Yeah, he
- 42:24Speaker 3: was having a nice year and he's a guy that
- 42:26Speaker 3: kind of gets on bays, has some left end and
- 42:28Speaker 3: throat pop, and.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Well we've got that with two guys. I don't know
- 42:31Speaker 1: what to tell you. I mean, Luis Robert. There were
- 42:33Speaker 1: offers too, for sure, they were offers. They said, offers
- 42:36Speaker 1: aren't good enough. We're gonna drop another twenty mil and
- 42:38Speaker 1: think about it. He could get traded this offseason too.
- 42:41Speaker 1: There aren't many center fielders and if you believe in
- 42:43Speaker 1: the change of scenery hype, it could be your guy.
- 42:49Speaker 1: It gets them out of what was a weird scenario.
- 42:52Speaker 1: We don't think we're getting enough. We're gonna pick up
- 42:55Speaker 1: the option and ride into next season up and we're
- 42:58Speaker 1: getting smashed.
- 42:59Speaker 3: They said, they said they're going to play or sorry,
- 43:02Speaker 3: play in the free agent market.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Maybe that was an Anthony k It was, you know,
- 43:06Speaker 2: a nice story. He got two years.
- 43:08Speaker 3: But sure are those they're big moves because now their
- 43:10Speaker 3: payroll goes up just naturally from picking up the option.
- 43:13Speaker 1: They can handle all of that. I'm not.
- 43:16Speaker 2: Playing Devil's advocate here.
- 43:17Speaker 1: Yeah, of course. John Hayman wrote Red Sox interest in
- 43:20Speaker 1: Ka tell marte.
- 43:22Speaker 3: So so am I I want Kit tell Marteo on
- 43:25Speaker 3: my team.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Do you think he's gonna get traded? If they trade him?
- 43:29Speaker 1: It has to happen this offseason. It still can happen
- 43:32Speaker 1: after that, but he would have to give them approval.
- 43:34Speaker 1: That makes it way more difficult, as we saw it
- 43:36Speaker 1: with Nolan Arnatto last year. So he's the best second
- 43:42Speaker 1: basement in baseball.
- 43:43Speaker 3: He's the best position player available for trade. If you
- 43:46Speaker 3: I mean for me, who's.
- 43:48Speaker 5: Better available per trade? People have said, hey, we just
- 43:53Speaker 5: got to travel it. That's probably the he's the best
- 43:56Speaker 5: second basement. He's just a brilliant offensive player.
- 43:59Speaker 1: He just yeah, he'swer.
- 44:02Speaker 2: I know, defense brings something. He's clutches. Hell. We saw
- 44:05Speaker 2: him in the playoffs a couple years ago.
- 44:08Speaker 1: He was the guy for the Diamondbacks.
- 44:09Speaker 3: If you if you take him and ad him to
- 44:11Speaker 3: a lineup, whatever lineup you want to throw him, he
- 44:14Speaker 3: may instantly makes that lineup better.
- 44:15Speaker 1: When a guy is getting floated out there consistently, there
- 44:18Speaker 1: usually is something to it. I think we're on the
- 44:22Speaker 1: same page. I would aggressively go after a player like this. Yes,
- 44:27Speaker 1: some people are like, oh, well, what's with the you know,
- 44:29Speaker 1: missing the day here and there? Right, we had the
- 44:31Speaker 1: drama last.
- 44:33Speaker 2: Year, but then you saw for Nomo stand up for him.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm good, I'm good. I think I think they'll
- 44:39Speaker 1: be okay. I would take that production. You have any
- 44:42Speaker 1: issue every once in a while where he has to
- 44:44Speaker 1: disappear for a day. I mean, you don't want it
- 44:45Speaker 1: to happen, but didn't somehow was mom. That is some stuff.
- 44:49Speaker 1: We don't know everything going on with people.
- 44:54Speaker 3: You don't know everything that's happening with people and their family,
- 44:57Speaker 3: people in their life. People, their kids are s their
- 45:00Speaker 3: wife is sick, their brothers sick, their uncles.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Sometimes they say one thing, but really they're covering for
- 45:05Speaker 1: the other.
- 45:06Speaker 3: So there's just a lot more happening than I mean, listen,
- 45:08Speaker 3: I went through a lot. I've been through a lot.
- 45:09Speaker 3: I've had things of my issues with every part of
- 45:12Speaker 3: your family you could ever have, right, and it is it.
- 45:15Speaker 3: It never goes away, like it never goes away.
- 45:18Speaker 1: Yeah, health issues, but you don't want to tell everyone.
- 45:20Speaker 1: You know, somebody's kids sick like that. Stuff happens and
- 45:23Speaker 1: you can't tell.
- 45:24Speaker 2: And there are those things you can just don't want
- 45:25Speaker 2: to tell people.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Yeah, it gets very public. So anyway, point is Haymon
- 45:30Speaker 1: said red tax interest among many other teams. Some of
- 45:33Speaker 1: the other teams he brought up were the Mariners, the Pirates,
- 45:37Speaker 1: the Rays, the Tigers, the Blue Jays see to me,
- 45:42Speaker 1: the theme of the day or the team of the day, Pittsburgh.
- 45:45Speaker 1: This is a perfect expedition for them, and it's going
- 45:49Speaker 1: to be hard for them to reprove players.
- 45:51Speaker 2: I think the Pirates have to trade. This is what
- 45:54Speaker 2: I'm saying.
- 45:54Speaker 1: Agreed, could tell Marte. Right, So if you, if you
- 45:57Speaker 1: especially guys money where your mouth is, it's it's not
- 46:00Speaker 1: crazy money. It's the money that we're talking about here.
- 46:03Speaker 1: It's like the Kyle Schwarber money. Because here's my thing.
- 46:06Speaker 1: When you're recruiting players, it's going to be difficult as
- 46:08Speaker 1: it is right with the Pirates. Now add this. To
- 46:11Speaker 1: get those players, you're going to have to overpay. And
- 46:14Speaker 1: I know it doesn't necessarily matter, but when you are
- 46:16Speaker 1: restricted on your budget and if you only can spend
- 46:18Speaker 1: it on one player, it does get pretty complicated. So
- 46:22Speaker 1: to me, trading is the move they've been rebuilding for eternity.
- 46:26Speaker 1: To tell Marte, who I have gone out nice.
- 46:30Speaker 3: But here's the thing. Also, if you go out and
- 46:32Speaker 3: you trade for a kid, tell Marte. Then you go
- 46:34Speaker 3: to the free agents you say, hey, look we got
- 46:37Speaker 3: tell Marte, we got Reynolds and we got O'Neil Cruz
- 46:40Speaker 3: and we have this guy and we have that guy. Hey,
- 46:42Speaker 3: it's a little more we have Schemes and Chandler and
- 46:44Speaker 3: Jared Jones a killer. It gets a little more attractive
- 46:47Speaker 3: to free agents to come by and say, hey, they
- 46:49Speaker 3: actually are trying.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Maybe this is something they're actually gonna try and.
- 46:52Speaker 1: Do versus we did. Did you see the news? We
- 46:56Speaker 1: did send it offer to Kyle Schwarber for four years.
- 46:59Speaker 1: That's well, good for you, you're gonna finish in ninth
- 47:01Speaker 1: place for him. But for Kittel Marte, he's making fifteen
- 47:05Speaker 1: million next year and he's owed one oh two point
- 47:08Speaker 1: five mili from twenty twenty six to twenty thirty one.
- 47:11Speaker 1: So whatever the match is there, I'm saying that is
- 47:14Speaker 1: exactly in the wheelhouse of what It sounds like the
- 47:17Speaker 1: Pirates are going to be able to commit to another player.
- 47:20Speaker 1: So that's, in my mind, the direction that they should
- 47:22Speaker 1: be thinking now to get that player. It's gonna hurt,
- 47:25Speaker 1: You're gonna have to give up prospects, but come on,
- 47:28Speaker 1: whatever you're doing. Clearly Pittsburgh's interested in trying to at
- 47:30Speaker 1: least sniff a playoff race. I think that's the thing.
- 47:33Speaker 1: And also if they don't this front office moves on.
- 47:36Speaker 2: You've got to show people that you're trying. You can't just.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Say it if they're not in a race in September
- 47:44Speaker 1: for a playoff spot, there's I will say this, there's
- 47:47Speaker 1: no chance they're going to keep the current group with
- 47:50Speaker 1: Ben Sherrington in there again, it'll have been like seven
- 47:53Speaker 1: or eight years. I think there is no.
- 47:54Speaker 2: Way he's now been giving the green light to spend money.
- 47:56Speaker 1: Well, it's a combination. It's what we talked about earlier,
- 47:59Speaker 1: where it's a the lockouts looming. You guys never spend
- 48:02Speaker 1: fake like you're into it for a year as the
- 48:04Speaker 1: owner with the budget and then we can go from there.
- 48:07Speaker 1: So to me, it's a perfect storm. If you're Ben Charrington,
- 48:11Speaker 1: you're getting a little bit more budget for the first
- 48:13Speaker 1: time ever and you actually have to do something or
- 48:16Speaker 1: you're going to get fired.
- 48:18Speaker 2: So I just wanted to point out in the Red
- 48:20Speaker 2: Sox where they were big money.
- 48:22Speaker 1: Yeah it's not him, right, but I'm just saying to me,
- 48:26Speaker 1: that's the kind of team that should make an offer
- 48:30Speaker 1: for a guy because all they have to do is
- 48:32Speaker 1: is win the bid. With free agency, it's it's going
- 48:35Speaker 1: to have to It's a different.
- 48:37Speaker 3: You have to play a different game if you want
- 48:38Speaker 3: to again, you have to show it before you I think,
- 48:41Speaker 3: before you can go get the free agent, like, okay,
- 48:43Speaker 3: I'll use the Nationals. We always use the Jason word. Right,
- 48:47Speaker 3: But they had Harper in Strasburg. I think we're already
- 48:50Speaker 3: there right before they went out and got Jason Worth.
- 48:53Speaker 3: Then they had Zimmerman, right, they had rendeout, So they
- 48:55Speaker 3: had these guys coming. So as a free agent, you
- 48:57Speaker 3: look at it and you say, and then they went out,
- 48:59Speaker 3: they got worse. He was the first one. Then they
- 49:00Speaker 3: went and got Sures er Corbin. Right, But they were
- 49:04Speaker 3: already seeing that they were on the right track before
- 49:08Speaker 3: they went there, right, because I remember twenty whenever whatever
- 49:11Speaker 3: suss first year was twenty fifteen. When he signed there,
- 49:14Speaker 3: I was like, they had Harper, Sures or Strassburg. I'm
- 49:19Speaker 3: like this sucks because I was in the division. I'm like, dude,
- 49:22Speaker 3: I got to go to Washington face these dudes like.
- 49:24Speaker 2: It was real.
- 49:25Speaker 3: But people outside the organization could see it and they're like, oh,
- 49:28Speaker 3: there is a direction.
- 49:29Speaker 1: People want to be part of.
- 49:30Speaker 3: People want to be part of it. It's kind of
- 49:31Speaker 3: what happens with the with the Dodgers right now. It's
- 49:34Speaker 3: a destination, right Oh, the Yankees forever were that place.
- 49:38Speaker 3: Tont Toronto's getting there. They're working on it right Toronto's
- 49:42Speaker 3: working on it. Red Sox, like the Cubs for a
- 49:45Speaker 3: for a while, were that kind of destination. He kind
- 49:48Speaker 3: of place, but they've kind of lost. When you start
- 49:52Speaker 3: losing it, you got to get it back.
- 49:54Speaker 1: Right. Jesse Chabez, who was on our show when he
- 49:56Speaker 1: announced his retirement, is right back into the big leagues
- 50:00Speaker 1: in the coaching world.
- 50:00Speaker 2: Cool bullpen coach.
- 50:02Speaker 3: Good for him, Yeah, I mean, is there a better
- 50:03Speaker 3: guy to have a bullpen coach? He he was in
- 50:05Speaker 3: the bullpen for like twenty five years for like twenty
- 50:07Speaker 3: five teams.
- 50:08Speaker 1: Now does this play to what you want from Tony
- 50:11Speaker 1: v Telim and his staff? There has been a bullpen
- 50:13Speaker 1: coach before, but he is a very seasoned Major leaguer
- 50:17Speaker 1: who has been around every Class's what I'm saying to
- 50:20Speaker 1: higher you want slap hands? If you were playing the
- 50:34Speaker 1: over undergame of how many people slap hands with Aj
- 50:36Speaker 1: Prizinski over the last three hours, the number is sixty four.
- 50:43Speaker 2: That's it?
- 50:43Speaker 1: Or maybe it's sixty seven.
- 50:45Speaker 3: I thought it'd be way higher than that. What do
- 50:47Speaker 3: we consider slapping hands? Are you like a hug, a fistbamp.
- 50:50Speaker 1: Just like any hand contact hand to hand, it's way
- 50:53Speaker 1: higher than that. Yeah, it's probably one twenty nine, just
- 50:57Speaker 1: if we.
- 50:57Speaker 2: Were counting from the time I walked in here. Just again,
- 51:00Speaker 2: that's a whole It was ridiculous.
- 51:01Speaker 3: It was one hundreds, which is great because as you said,
- 51:05Speaker 3: I haven't been to the winter meetings a long time.
- 51:06Speaker 2: You haven't been around with us for a long time.
- 51:08Speaker 1: Yep.
- 51:09Speaker 3: So the people you see that you just don't see it.
- 51:11Speaker 3: I see more than you do because I'm still out there, right.
- 51:13Speaker 3: But like the relationships with the reporters and even the
- 51:16Speaker 3: managers and some of the other coaches that come by,
- 51:18Speaker 3: it's cool.
- 51:19Speaker 2: It's cool to see them all one place. It's just
- 51:21Speaker 2: a lot.
- 51:21Speaker 1: It's a lot. So the ones for me are haven't
- 51:24Speaker 1: seen you in three years and they want some time,
- 51:27Speaker 1: and that's cool, but not until the show's done. So anyway,
- 51:30Speaker 1: thanks to everyone that was joining us today. Think we
- 51:33Speaker 1: did a nice three hours live team behind the scenes
- 51:35Speaker 1: crushed it. And it is not easy to figure out
- 51:38Speaker 1: how to put this stuff together here too. They limit
- 51:41Speaker 1: us on Wi Fi and all that stuff. And look
- 51:43Speaker 1: what we did, three hour live show. We're doing this
- 51:45Speaker 1: again on Tuesday and Wednesday. We'll have plenty of guests
- 51:49Speaker 1: joining US managers, front office leaders, the whole deal, and
- 51:53Speaker 1: we'll get to all the rumors reports. We'll try and
- 51:55Speaker 1: get insiders the whole deal uh on FT here the
- 51:58Speaker 1: next couple of days. So we'll see you on Tuesday live.
- 52:05Speaker 4: Mmmm
