- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Grab a cocktail as we talk about life and death.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Everything in between and being.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Join us for a little boozy banter with friends.
- 0:32SPEAKER_03: Hello there.
- 0:33SPEAKER_03: Hi.
- 0:34SPEAKER_03: This is Boozy Banter with Friends.
- 0:36SPEAKER_03: Take two.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: We've already recorded once and it didn't work.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: Well, we got the audio, but we didn't get the video part.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: So clearly a learning curve is in order because oh my gosh, this is this is so much harder than we're used to.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: So it the first video was like 45 minutes.
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: There was banter.
- 1:04SPEAKER_02: There was drama.
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: There were highs and lows and laughs.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: No tears.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: Well, after when I didn't record, it's true.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: There were plenty of tears.
- 1:17SPEAKER_02: This time, just gonna probably be we're gonna jump right in.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: So um, otherwise, we're spending like two hours on one cost.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: And it's not even a longest story.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: It's not.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: It's interesting, but it's not long.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Anyway, we are back in Savannah.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: In Savannah.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: So our last video, if you watched it, uh, we were at the where were we?
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: The Savannah Theater.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: And uh we met Micah and Courtney with Ghost Coast Paranormal.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: And we are back in Savannah so that we can take their walking tour that they're starting up.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: And we're really excited about it.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: We're doing that this evening.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Hopefully the weather holds, still looks nice out there.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Time.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: It's hot, hot, but it should be nice.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: And um, so we're really excited because uh they were so enthusiastic about this.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: I love that they personalize it to exactly what you want.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: If you want a little history, if you want paranormal, if you want true crime, they have you covered.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: And even better, it's only for your party.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: So, you know, we're not gonna have a bunch of strangers that we have to listen to talking questions.
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: If someone's gonna ask a dumb question, it'll just be me.
- 2:47unknown: Right.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: Or me.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: We don't have to share the dumb questions.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: We can just have them all to ourselves.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: So um, so we're pretty excited about that.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we're really and they were just the most wonderful couple and so enthusiastic about what they do.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: So we're really excited to meet up with them again and get to do their their walking tour.
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: And it wouldn't be a boozy banter with friends if we didn't have a glass of wine, which yeah, we've practically almost gone through it because again, because like we said, they do.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: So uh we went back to one of our fun little finds.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: Fancy parkers, fancy parkers.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: It's like a gas station.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: I don't understand why it's so appealing.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: It's like a it's like a down home quick trip or wah wah or whatever gas station.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: But elevated.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: But elevated, but quaint.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: It's super cute.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: We love it.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: It's fancy.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: If you're in Savannah and you need like a cold diet coke, and you need to fill your car up with gas and maybe some fried chicken.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: You or some wine.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: Or some wine, or a$50 candle for your Airbnb.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: They have it.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: You can also buy a$50 candle there.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: They have it all.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: Fancy.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Fancy markers.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, anyways.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: Anyways.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: We're gonna jump right on it.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Just jumping right in.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Uh, we've been out for a while.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: I was getting my eye surgery, which it's all healed, have a little bit of a scar right there, but I can see again, which you know what?
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: It's always a it's a bonus.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, like if you can see, that's all it's like.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Vision is overrated by so I we haven't really been doing much since uh May.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: I did, though, go visit my daughter.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: She was in San Antonio for about a month.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: And um, you you all know if you've been following us for a while, that if she's out and about somewhere, I have to kind of stalk her and check up on her and visit her.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: So this time they were in Texas.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: And um, while we were there, we uh went to a bunch of different places.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: We've talked about San Antonio before, and we've done like the Emily Morgan story.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: Uh, there's a lot of great stuff in San Antonio.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: But this time, this was a little bit closer to where we were staying.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: Um, my daughter was at the Brook Army Medical Center there in at Fort Sam Houston.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: And uh when I was looking on the map, I saw, you know, oh, we're gonna be staying so close to her.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: We weren't, because number one, the new hospital is its own base.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: You have to leave that base and go all the way around to get onto Fort Sam Houston.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: Number two, I was looking at the old hospital.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: I did not know there was an old hospital and a new hospital.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: I thought it was all the same hospital, but I was incorrect.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: Evidently, the new hospital was where she is, and the old hospital is not even used as a hospital anymore.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: But it looked creepy as hell.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: It was so creepy looking.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: It looks like uh a sanitarium, like Waverly Hills, but not as huge.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: And so, of course, I had to Google, is it haunted?
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: Because when I see creepy old buildings, that's a first thought.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I always want to know.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: As it should be.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: As it should be.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: Now, what I did find out is that um Fort Sam Houston has been around for a really long time, and there are a lot of places on that base that are haunted, supposedly.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: Officers' quarters in the old, like historic area of the base.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: They have an area called the Quadrangle that has some really old historic buildings and they do tours.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: I think it has like the post museum in there, is also rumored to be haunted, as well as the hospital.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna talk about that today because it's really cool.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: So let's just jump right in.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: Uh, we're talking today about Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: So the hospital itself, the big one that my daughter is at, is one of the most respected military hospitals in the country.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: They have everything.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: You have any kind of issue, they can fix it there.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: And it's state of the art.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: Like if it's new, they've got it there.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Uh, it's reputation for being haunted is mostly due to its age.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, it's been around for a long time.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: The old hospital, not the new hospital.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: The stories really come from soldiers, employees, security officers, former patients, historians.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Like there's no shortage of people who have experienced something at this old hospital.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: So the hospital itself and and the post was established in 1879 as a small hospital, um, right outside of like the downtown area of San Antonio.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: The new hospital, the old hospital that I'm talking about, not the new hospital, the old hospital building opened in 1937 and it was called Station Hospital.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: And it was renamed Brook General Hospital in honor of Brigadier General Roger Brooke in 1946.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: So already we're talking, you know, pretty, pretty old established building here.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: It expanded uh into multiple buildings throughout World War II to care for thousands of wounded servicemen.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: Uh, and they have treated casualties from World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Operation Desert Desert Storm, Iraq, and the Afghanistan conflicts.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: So, you know, they they've had a lot of people in and out of there.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: They became internationally recognized for burn treatments, trauma medicine, reconstructive surgery, and rehabilitative medicine.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: So, you know, clearly they are very well trained in treating service members, you know.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: So it's state of the art.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: State of the art.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: So um in 1996 is when the new hospital, the new new hospital opened.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: Uh, and that's where my daughter was working this summer.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: So the original Art Deco Hospital was converted into U.S.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: Army South headquarters uh soon after the relocation.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: I wasn't just making it up when I said, hey, there this building looks haunted.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: Like there is a reason that people think that when they see it, because it look, it looks creepy.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: But if you ask around, you're also gonna hear that it is creepy and supposedly haunted.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Supposedly, though.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: Um thousands of patients have died inside the hospital over the multiple decades.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: You know, what are we talking?
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: 80 years since the hospital was taking in patients.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: So um during wartime, they have they had round-the-clock staff just continuously treating patients.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: Uh, there were new numerous operating rooms, psychiatric wards, intensive care units, and morgue facilities uh throughout the building.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: It has a long history of grief, trauma, and emotional experiences that have created this foundation for paranormal legend.
- 10:46SPEAKER_03: Well, that's what they say.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they say a lot of trauma and emotional distress is a big factor in haunting us.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: So, what is the reported paranormal activity?
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: It's difficult.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Like there's nothing out of the ordinary.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: They disembody voices.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: So shadow figures, um, employees report seeing dark figures standing at hallway intersections.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: So, do you remember when we went to Waverly Hills?
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they would like have those like where the stairs are or whatever.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: That's where they report the most, you know, dark figures.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: You know, I don't know that I would be able to identify a dark figure or just like a shadowy corner.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Is it a dark figure or is it a shadowy corner?
- 11:36SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: I don't know either.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: So they do have apparitions that disappear when approached, and witnesses often believe someone is nearby before realizing nobody is there.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: I don't like that.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: That's an unsettling feeling.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: It's just unsettling, but you could go in there hearing all the things and then kind of like hype yourself up.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: And then you're like, you're creeped out already.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: So when you like you're like, oh, I'm all alone, like absolutely creeped out feeling.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: So is it which way?
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: So um there's also reports of phantom footsteps, heavy footsteps that are heard in empty corridors.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: Um usually this is heard after hours, which I think is interesting.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: It's the security officers that normally describe hearing footsteps, and then they follow them thinking they're hearing people, but then there's nobody there.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: That's weird.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: That's a little weird.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: Same with disembodied voices.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: There's whispering heard from vacant offices, um, conversations that come from empty patient areas, as well as uh voices calling out names, but they can't find who's saying them, which is weird.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: That is a little weird.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: That is so this is a huge building, and even though it is being used as administration space, um, not every space is occupied.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of vacant areas of this old hospital that is that are being unused.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: So um that leaves a lot of empty space for weird things to happen.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: And things to go bump.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: Um, another thing that happens, which we hear quite frequently, is doors opening and closing.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: You know, we hear that in a lot of these empty buildings.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: Uh, mostly it's the slamming shut without explanation.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: Um, even the when they've like take into account like any type of drafts, or anything.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: It's nothing like that.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: There's nothing that could produce that big of a breeze to slam a door shut.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: And those hospital doors, they're not light either.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: So the elevators um malfunction quite often, meaning not that they stall, but that they're constantly going with no rhyme or reason to it.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: Nobody's like pushing the buttons, they're opening on floors that are vacant.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: Um that would be kind of creepy.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: They're coming down to nobody's pushed a button, you know, up or down, and they're just opening and showing up, and that's a little weird too.
- 14:24SPEAKER_02: I think it'd be weirder to like go in and you press a button and it takes you to a floor that's empty.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: Open stores.
- 14:31SPEAKER_02: That would kind of freak me out.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: That would freak out too.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: I'd be like, what the fuck?
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: So cold spots.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh again, is it is it because it's an old building?
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: They are reporting sudden drops in temperature, but in specific hallways, as well as certain rooms that are unusually cold, regardless of the season.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: Now, I had read that this was even during the summer months, which are extremely warm in Texas.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: And so to have like these cold spots is kind of unusual because it should be really hot.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: So I don't know.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: Like our Airbnb.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: It's, I mean, it's not like sweltering in here, but you can't get it down to chili.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: There's not.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: You can't get it to chili.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: It's just air, it's like 75.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: It's not like it's boiling in here.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: It's it's comfortable.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: It's comfortable temperature.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: It's just like a but you can't get it any cooler, but it's not getting any hotter.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: Like it's not dipping down into the 60s.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: So to have like un Yeah, cold spots.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Into the bathroom right now, and it you you could see your breath, that's a problem.
- 15:49SPEAKER_03: I'd be like, hey, Trisha, we gotta, we gotta haunt the place here.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: You booked a winter.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: I've only read about one haunted Airbnb here in Savannah.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: It's called, I think it's called Laura's Cottage.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Like if you Google it, Laura's Cottage, Savannah, it should pop up and it's supposedly haunted.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: The reason I haven't booked it is because we normally stay multiple nights.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, but what if it really is?
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: And then we book it and then we're stuck there for like three.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: I'm not taking any chances.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: But what if it isn't?
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: And then it looks really small and dingy.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Not I shouldn't say dingy because I haven't really stated it.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Dark.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: It looks really dark.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: And I I don't want that either.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: You can see this is very bright.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: And we've got a little porch outside.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: It's just we like the sunlight.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: And so I'm not staying.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: It's a basement apartment.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: Exactly, exactly.
- 16:49SPEAKER_02: I'm not doing it.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: So anyway, the other issues that they encounter in the building are um electronic disturbances.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: So would radios producing static or unexplained voices, that would freak me out.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Like we've heard what are those things called?
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: REM pods.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: REM pods that like cycle through the radio to pick up and they try to piece it to make it sound like something.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: Like if I heard that coming out of something that's not supposed to be doing that, I'd be a little freaked out.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: So lights flickering, computers activating unexpectedly, or flickering, and motion sensors triggering with no visible movement.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: Now that's weird too.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: That is weird.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: Now, could it be a bug?
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: Could it be a rodent?
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: Could be.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: Like they're small, like maybe you know, their their movement got picked up, but whoever's watching it couldn't see it, possibly.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Could be.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Like that's electronic stuff weirds me out, mostly because I don't understand it.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: This is our second time.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: I know, exactly.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: So if this is if it started talking to me, I would be a little freaked out.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: And my face would be like, what the fuck is happening?
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: Well, you would just go tap on it or something.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: I would not be like, what's wrong with this?
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: So there are stories uh about hauntings there.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: And one of the oldest is about the Phantom Nurse.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: She's described as a woman in vintage, in a vintage army nurse uniform.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: And we had to Google that because I'm like, what does that mean?
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: Is it she's wearing like a uniform?
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: White.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: It's that typical white um 40s.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: With like the white sneaker nurse ratchet.
- 18:52SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 18:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: That was the typical um, and like in the 40s, that's typically what the hospital nurses wore.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: So they say she walks quietly through the corridors, and you'll catch a glimpse of her like going around the corner.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: You just kind of see her scooting around.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Um it's never, they've never figured out who it could possibly be.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: You know, like, did somebody die in the building?
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: Was it somebody who's really committed to their work?
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: I would say it's extremely committed to their job to like still be.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: So that is the oldest story.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: One thing that never occurred to me, which is silly because it's a hospital, but there were children's wards.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: I just was looking at it as like a military hospital.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: Military hospitals treat children too.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: But they had a dedicated children's ward.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: Um, and so in that area of the building, there's reports of children's laughter after hours, which even during work hours would be weird because there's no children in the building.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that would be a little laughter, sounds of bouncing balls.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: What's with the balls in child in children's wards?
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Like, stop bringing them balls in children's wards.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: Why do you keep giving?
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: I don't understand that.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: Bouncing balls.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: Like we went to Waverly Hills and they're like, oh, give them a ball.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: So they give them a little red ball or something.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: What if they I don't understand that?
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: Like maybe it was like a 40s thing.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: Maybe that was a thing in the 20s, 30s, 40s.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: But there's a lot of bouncing balls going on in these sanitariums and old hospitals.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: I don't get it.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Nobody knows.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: But there's also um the sound of small footsteps in empty hallways again.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: That would kind of freak me out.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: But small, what does that mean?
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: Like pitter patterns?
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: Like pid pads.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: Like lighter than a yeah.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: Um, toys reportedly found move from their original locations and stories tied to the former pediatric section of the hospital of, you know, hearing the laughs and the But why are their tours still there?
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: Maybe they never maybe they never took stuff out of there.
- 21:23SPEAKER_02: Well, you've I mean that could be a thing because you've seen these hospitals just like abandoned and there's all kinds of crap still in these hospitals.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: Well, just why they moved the hospital until the 90s, which is only like what, 30 years ago.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: And then they moved it to a new state of the art hospital.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: They probably didn't take any of that stuff.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: So there could be spots in that hospital that still have old stuff.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: I would think.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: Like that makes sense to me.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: I would think that the military would clean up after themselves.
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: They're all t all about what's their favorite what's their favorite squared away, getting squared away.
- 22:01SPEAKER_03: Square this away.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: I think they they aren't gonna do any more work than they have to.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: So if it required like moving all this stuff out, like if they were gonna repurpose it, send it to another hospital, something like maybe, but if they're just closing off some of these, you know wards and not using them, then why move that stuff unless you until you absolutely needed to?
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: Like that's what I've been thinking.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: I guess.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: So being very squared away.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: So obviously the most haunted sections of the hospital are the basement.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: Of course it is.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: And the morgue.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: Oh, of course it is.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: Frequently described as the most unsettling area, of course.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: Um the basement is, of course, the rumored location of the morgue, storage rooms, and service tunnels.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: Now, yes, I I have no doubt that the morgue was down there.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: Service tunnels to me really only mean one thing.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: What is what's with the service tunnels?
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: I don't know, but to me, service tunnels remind me of the body shoot at Waverly Hills.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: That was a service tunnel.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: Oh, it because it sloped down to the parking lot.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: So they had like a cart thing you could attach the cart and like wheel it up.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: And it was used to bring in food, supplies until like a lot of people started dying.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: And then they started putting them to take them out of the hospital through there.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: So I and then here in Savannah, the hospital, remember they talked about the underground tunnels that they used to move service tunnels, service tunnels adjacent to morgues.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: They that only means one thing to me, and I wouldn't go in them.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: Even though I'm pretty skeptical, I wouldn't go in them.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: That's just weird.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Not doing it.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: I'm not doing it.
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: Could you imagine your job would be to go get files in the basement?
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: No, I don't.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: I'd be like, like that's something I would want to know before I started my job.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: Do I have to go to the basement?
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: Then no, I don't know.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: Do I have a is there a buddy system?
- 24:18SPEAKER_02: Because I would have to have a buddy system.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Do I have to go in the service tunnels?
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: No.
- 24:22SPEAKER_02: I'm not doing it.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: Is there a buddy system?
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: No, I don't know.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: Is it a lighted?
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: I would not even trust the buddy system because then you would get stuck with a buddy who would hear something and be like, I'm out and just push you aside and hightail it out of there.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: And then you would be down there by yourself anyway.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: So that's a pretty shitty buddy.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: They're work buddies.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: They don't give a shit about you.
- 24:48SPEAKER_02: Still shitty.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: You still have to work with that person.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: Fucking Linda.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: Fucking Linda.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: So employees.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: Now, employees being current employees, like who work there now, or employees who used to work at the hospital.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: But they report sounds of rolling carts, moving the bodies.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: I told you.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: Um, door slamming, the feelings of being watched, heavy footsteps, and sudden oppressive silence in the basement.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: And yeah, oppressive silence.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: That just, what is that?
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: It's almost like, I don't know, like heavy, like heavy, like heavy silent, just like nothing.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: Like I would I guess that would be like absence of every sound that you like, every creak or every like breathing, like maybe even.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: Which for an old building would be weird.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: That'd be weird.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: Because you would expect to hear something, right?
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: You would expect to.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: Um, workers assigned to Army South offices have shared uh unexplained experiences, including objects moving, strange noises, apparitions, unexplained cold areas, and many of the employees avoid certain sections of the building after dark.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: Well, if those building if that those areas aren't open, don't be go snooping around where you're not supposed to be snooping.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: Just do what you gotta do and stay in your own.
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: She's and finish your girly don't dilly dally through the damn day.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: Be able to leave with everybody out.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: Who is staying there that late?
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Like, what are they doing there late?
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: Why are there nighttime employees?
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: I don't understand.
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: I think the only nighttime employees that need to be there are this curry guards.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: That's who they're worried about.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there was no one to ask.
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: There were very few people there.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: Army historian Dr.
- 27:01SPEAKER_01: Isaac Hampton acknowledged the building's reputation.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Like he's like uh you it I've heard it's haunted, but then he also said hospitals naturally experience significant loss of life.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Thank you, Dr.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: We get it.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, doctor, obvious.
- 27:23SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: Um, and he suggests that it's understandable why people associate such places with paranormal experiences.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay, but he also wouldn't confirm that there are any supernatural claims to this particular building.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's not, he might not be at liberty to say.
- 27:50unknown: I don't know.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: Sounds right to me.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, when you put it that way, that sounds right.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: Maybe the army's like, you are not allowed to say it's haunted.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: He's like, okay, tell it's haunted.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, if you think it's haunted, that's on you, but I can't tell you it's haunted.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's what I can confirm nor deny such tales of hauntings.
- 28:11unknown: There you go.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: Some of the more skeptical explanations, you know, include that it's an old building.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: And those naturally produce settling sounds, plumbing sounds.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, they expanded the HVAC system, but the old one's still there, so you can be hearing some of that business going on, the elevators making sounds like in the walls.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: Um, if you're working long hours or overnight shifts, that could contribute to fatigue and heightened awareness.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: Now, is anybody working there now on overnight shifts?
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: I don't think so.
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: Maybe security guard.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: Um stress could be a contributing factor to why you would be experiencing some of these supernatural feelings.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: I don't think so.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: I think that if you are in there and you think you feel or hear or see something, that's what it is.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: It's not because you were working long hours or because you were stressed out that day.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: When I'm stressed out, I don't start hearing voices.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: I'd go to the doctor if I did.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: I'm just saying.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: So just start hearing voices when I'm stressed out, that would be literally all the time.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: I would go invented, I'm going to do something.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: But these ghost stories have been around for decades.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: Um, new employees often hear the legends before they even begin begin work working there.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: Like if you, whether you're working at the hospital or working at the building as it is now, like there's already chatter that the building is haunted.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: It's well known for that.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: Um, but most of the experiences that I talked about have been reported independently by multiple witnesses at different times.
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: Like these, it wasn't like all these people knew each other.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: This was something that was going on, and then it was reported by people that don't know each other.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: Um, no paranormal claims have been scientifically verified.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: Dun dun dun.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: Also, though, nobody they haven't let anybody in there to do any type of paranormal investigation, which I think is interesting.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: Well, I also get that too, because it's still a military, military facility, absolutely.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: Uh but you know, the building's history makes the stories difficult to dismiss entirely.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: Like there is enough trauma in that building that the claims, you know, seem valid.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: Uh the medical building itself, the new one, still remains one of the the premier medical facilities in the country.
- 31:13SPEAKER_01: Um and that doesn't take away the old building being haunted, doesn't take away from that at all.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: I think that um a lot of the stories that are going on with the old building could be stories that have just been passed down by old employees, people that used to work there.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: Um they do do what's called historic tours of the building on certain nights of the month, uh, where they do touch on the paranormal and they talk about the stories that have circulated and that kind of thing.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: So maybe that perpetuates the haunted, you know, the probably.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: I would say that that would contribute a lot to it.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, because it's not dying down.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: It's not like access to the building has been restricted.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: And of course, the people that are working now there in the building are still saying that they're seeing and hearing things.
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, I mean, but it makes sense like an old hospital.
- 32:17SPEAKER_03: Of course, there's gonna be residual shit just hanging around.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: They do have a medical uh museum adjacent to the building, and but it's closed right now.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: And there are outside of the building, there's like the old um, what are those things that you pull the horse, like a buggy, a horse and buggy, um, not a trailer, a like a wagon.
- 32:40SPEAKER_01: There's like medical wagons uh with the big red cross, you know, on the tent thing that goes over it.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: They have those out in the yard that they used to use where they had their ambulances, which are also out in the yard, which I thought.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's kind of cool.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: But the facility the building itself is like the museum itself is cool closed.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: But I bet you some of the stuff that was in the old hospital is now right 100%.
- 33:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: So it would be really interesting to get in there.
- 33:12SPEAKER_01: And I hope they open it up that, you know, they open it back up to the public soon.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: I think it was a it's a staffing issue, like, you know.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: Well, maybe they'll get stationed there after their I don't know.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: After everything's gonna be.
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: They've got a lot of options of where they could potentially go.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: Uh, but if they do end up back in San Antonio, I'm gonna be back there checking it out because it sounds really cool and I want to get into that building.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: I couldn't even like knock on the door and be like, Can I use the bathroom?
- 33:43SPEAKER_01: Like, they won't even let you up to the building unless you have some kind of badge.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: You don't have no steaking badge.
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: Badge.
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: I couldn't even fake something.
- 33:57SPEAKER_02: No.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: I'd be like, what is this?
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: What is this?
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: They're not letting me anywhere near that building.
- 34:05SPEAKER_01: Or anyone for that matter.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: Security was pretty good.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: Like the security guard, like you come through the gate, and there it is, and still they have security guards right there.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: Like, they're not taking cheaper.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: And I'm not military.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: So um, it is an interesting base, though.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: Like, there's a lot of history there.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: Um, like I said, there's a whole section of the post that has uh beautiful, beautiful historic homes that are supposed to be haunted.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: Um, and then this whole other like post museum area that's also supposed to be haunted.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: And it's just really cool.
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: So I think I'd love to check it out when it's not so hot and when I have more time.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: Um, but if I can get into that building and do one of their nighttime tours, which actually really daytime, I don't care.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: Nighttime, daytime, I can't.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: It'd be pretty cool.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because there's a lot of there's several wings that are still closed, which I think is really interesting.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: It's a big building and it looks really, really cool.
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: And if you look at it on Google Maps, it's like its own, like they have this really nice driveway that goes up around it.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: It's just really pretty.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: Clearly not big enough for their needs because the new facility is enormous.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: It's several buildings, you know, but it's not as pretty.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: It's, you know, the modern brick and glass you know hospital where this is just a beautiful, I mean, like the masonry on it is is gorgeous.
- 35:44SPEAKER_01: Where they appreciated architecture.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: It's so nice.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: So just to get inside and see like the historical part of the building would just be really cool, I think.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: I believe in you.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna do it one way or another.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: Get in there.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: Uh, if I've I was telling Layla, it's like I had been like, I would have sprained an ankle if it was an active hospital.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: I'd have been like, oh, I need to go to the emergency room just so I can get in there and look around.
- 36:13SPEAKER_01: But no.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: No.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: Alas, yeah, the new building wasn't worth it.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: Did not work.
- 36:22SPEAKER_01: So, anyhow, that's it.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: That's my story for this week.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: And she's gonna stick to it.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: I'm sticking to it.
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: That's all we have.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: We can't do a third one.
- 36:33SPEAKER_01: On that note, until next time, cheers.
