- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorite. I'm black Jack Lester live from
- 0:13Speaker 1: our remote Lexington, Kentucky studios, which is the bar at
- 0:17Speaker 1: good Fellas is the Distillery District. And joining me today
- 0:20Speaker 1: as always is my best friend, future roommates and uh
- 0:26Speaker 1: possibly platonic life partner, Paul Luduca. Are we doing, PAULI
- 0:30Speaker 1: I'm a little hurt. You're a little hurt. Yeah. A
- 0:34Speaker 1: lot of a lot of pictures without me, and you're
- 0:36Speaker 1: in Lexington taking pictures with horses. You're not anonymous man bourbon,
- 0:43Speaker 1: I'm not in any of them. You sent a picture
- 0:45Speaker 1: of my favorite hoss of all time? Who's oh Jacomo?
- 0:52Speaker 1: I what I sent back to you? You told me
- 0:55Speaker 1: you wouldn't make out with that horse? I would tongue
- 0:59Speaker 1: jock mom. He wanted me eat gran Why wouldn't I
- 1:02Speaker 1: kiss a horse? I mean he was a beautiful specimen
- 1:08Speaker 1: um and he did win you an awful lot of money? Yes?
- 1:12Speaker 1: How was he? Uh? Spectacular? How do you like? How
- 1:17Speaker 1: you like it? By the way, I try to tell
- 1:21Speaker 1: people all the time, get your butt to Lexington because
- 1:26Speaker 1: it's way better than you think. And oh my god,
- 1:30Speaker 1: Lexington is the best. One of my favorite places I've
- 1:33Speaker 1: ever been to. I love it here. I may not
- 1:36Speaker 1: come back because you can drink so cheap here um,
- 1:40Speaker 1: and that's one of my highest costs in life. So um,
- 1:43Speaker 1: I may. I may just wind up becoming Alexington native.
- 1:48Speaker 1: And Paul, don't worry, I'll find a spot for you. Oh,
- 1:51Speaker 1: that's not a problem. What I love about Lexington there's
- 1:54Speaker 1: either sports or horse racing on every single restaurant in Lexington,
- 1:58Speaker 1: so um, there's something to gamble on whatever. And I'm
- 2:03Speaker 1: sure good fellows right now, although there's no horse racing
- 2:05Speaker 1: on now has got something on and the races will
- 2:07Speaker 1: be up watching Twins Royals right now. There you go, well, Paul,
- 2:15Speaker 1: speaking of Lexington. Obviously, this past Sunday was a little
- 2:19Speaker 1: bit of a disappointment for the natives here as the
- 2:21Speaker 1: Wildcats lost to Auburn and the Elite Eight. But we
- 2:24Speaker 1: have the Final Four coming up around the corner on Saturday,
- 2:28Speaker 1: and everybody around the country, the millions and billions of
- 2:31Speaker 1: listeners to this show, want to know what does Paul
- 2:35Speaker 1: la Duca like in the final four. Let's start with
- 2:38Speaker 1: Virginia and Auburn. Virginia five points favorite total set at
- 2:42Speaker 1: one thirty eight in that game? What do we like? Paulli? Wow,
- 2:48Speaker 1: I still can't get over. I don't know if I'm
- 2:50Speaker 1: ever going to get overbidding Perdue on the money line
- 2:52Speaker 1: and having perdue second half and the whole nine yards.
- 2:55Speaker 1: But was this meant for Virginia, all the agony they've
- 2:58Speaker 1: had in the town as, Now they get to the
- 3:02Speaker 1: final four? Um, and do they get the job done
- 3:08Speaker 1: against an Auburn team that's just on a role, they
- 3:11Speaker 1: lose their best player, they still win. I I am
- 3:17Speaker 1: so torn in this game, black Check. I have my
- 3:19Speaker 1: heart wants to go with Auburn. My brain says Virginia
- 3:24Speaker 1: probably locks him up. Um, you know what, I do
- 3:27Speaker 1: like the numbers pretty high, considering it's close to the
- 3:31Speaker 1: Michigan State game, which I thought would be Michigan State
- 3:34Speaker 1: in Texas, tex So. I really have no opinion if
- 3:38Speaker 1: probably would take the points just because I'm rooting for Auburn,
- 3:41Speaker 1: because I really don't love either side. All right, Well,
- 3:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you, PAULI, I'm going on the other
- 3:46Speaker 1: side here. I'm laying the five with Virginia. I think
- 3:49Speaker 1: this game sets up really nicely for Virginia. Auburn is
- 3:52Speaker 1: a team that likes to push pace. They're one of
- 3:54Speaker 1: the faster teams in the country, but they are solely
- 3:57Speaker 1: depended on shooting. You mentioned the injury to their best player,
- 4:01Speaker 1: and now they're even more dependent on the outside shot.
- 4:04Speaker 1: And that's what Virginia does better than anybody in the country,
- 4:08Speaker 1: is they defend so well that they will suffocate the
- 4:12Speaker 1: life out of you. And people overlook the fact that
- 4:15Speaker 1: Virginia is a top of UH offense in the country
- 4:19Speaker 1: when it comes to efficiency that we score okay last week,
- 4:23Speaker 1: I think this game sets up really nicely for Virginia.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I think this whole Final four sets up nicely for Virginia.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I'll lay the five with Cavaliers. We said it last
- 4:33Speaker 1: week where the difference between Virginia and North Carolina was
- 4:37Speaker 1: what I said it. I said, tread lightly with North
- 4:40Speaker 1: Carolina because they do not defend the three Virginia does,
- 4:46Speaker 1: I get. I get where you're going there. I get
- 4:47Speaker 1: where you're going there. The thing about Auburn, it's there's
- 4:51Speaker 1: such a jackal and high team. They were the whole
- 4:54Speaker 1: year all but they've been just unbelievable. But are they
- 4:57Speaker 1: due for that that twenty or thirty point to go out.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Maybe it does happen, But um, Bruce Pearl has got
- 5:03Speaker 1: those kids playing, and one thing I will give Auburn.
- 5:06Speaker 1: He goes seven eight, nine deep, so he's running bodies
- 5:09Speaker 1: at you. But this is going to be a Yeah,
- 5:14Speaker 1: it's gonna be a good game. But but I still
- 5:17Speaker 1: think that everything sets up nicely for the Cavaliers here. Um. Also,
- 5:21Speaker 1: I think there's a little bit of an emotional bounce back,
- 5:24Speaker 1: Like you know, you have the injury to your star player,
- 5:26Speaker 1: you come out, you rally around him. They bring him
- 5:29Speaker 1: out in the wheelchair in the second half, which, honestly,
- 5:33Speaker 1: I mean, I think it was kind of an underhanded move.
- 5:36Speaker 1: For being honest, Okay, there's no way they could lose
- 5:39Speaker 1: that game bringing a kid out in a wheelchair on
- 5:41Speaker 1: the sidelines. So I think that maybe now though that
- 5:45Speaker 1: you've had a few days, everything sinks in. I think
- 5:48Speaker 1: maybe now there's a little bit of a regression emotionally, Yeah,
- 5:52Speaker 1: there could be a little bit of a aggression. Um.
- 5:55Speaker 1: And then Virginia with playing on such a high to
- 5:58Speaker 1: escape winning the Purdue game, I mean, got a one
- 6:01Speaker 1: percent chance of covering that game. When he missed the
- 6:03Speaker 1: free throw. Um, what a game that was. So, you know,
- 6:10Speaker 1: so did Virginia. You know, every national champion, it seems
- 6:14Speaker 1: like they've always had like a tiny little luck or
- 6:16Speaker 1: a little hiccup. We're and they've gotten away with it.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Duke almost got away with it three times. I love
- 6:23Speaker 1: the people that are saying, uh, imagine having Lebron James
- 6:27Speaker 1: and not making it to the final four. They almost
- 6:29Speaker 1: didn't make it to the Sweet six. Team, let's let's
- 6:32Speaker 1: go there. Okay, so um uh so let's give some
- 6:37Speaker 1: other teams credit. But yeah, I don't know what to
- 6:41Speaker 1: do the game. The total I thought was a little high. Um,
- 6:45Speaker 1: but if Auburn hits their shots, yes, I thought it was.
- 6:49Speaker 1: To be honest with But here's the thing is, like
- 6:50Speaker 1: everybody thinks if Auburn hits their shot, Virginia will score.
- 6:53Speaker 1: In Auburn Hubburn does not play great defense. They really don't.
- 6:56Speaker 1: So I think they actually might score some point in
- 7:01Speaker 1: that game, where the other game I think is just
- 7:02Speaker 1: going to be a slugfest. Yeah, I I kind of
- 7:06Speaker 1: agree with you about the other game. And let's get
- 7:08Speaker 1: to that. At this point, Michigan State at two and
- 7:10Speaker 1: a half point favorite over Texas Tech. We've got a total.
- 7:13Speaker 1: They're of a hundred and thirty two and a half.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I love the under. In this game, you're dealing with
- 7:18Speaker 1: two defenses that are top ten and two of the
- 7:21Speaker 1: slowest offenses in the country. Two teams that like to
- 7:25Speaker 1: play in the half court. They don't like to run.
- 7:27Speaker 1: That generally means longer possessions, fewer shots, are less points.
- 7:31Speaker 1: What do you think about Michigan State in Texas Tech.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I couldn't agree with you more. I really could not
- 7:36Speaker 1: agree with you more. M Beard has done just an
- 7:39Speaker 1: unreal job with this Texas Tech program. I've never seen
- 7:42Speaker 1: a team dominate a tournament like they've dominated. UM. Defensively,
- 7:48Speaker 1: they get their hands on every single loose ball. UM,
- 7:53Speaker 1: They're so active defensively. But I think the equalizer is
- 7:57Speaker 1: gonna be Cassius Winston. I really do. He has played
- 8:00Speaker 1: so well, so under control black jack. He had one
- 8:03Speaker 1: turnover in last game. He's gonna be key. Obviously, he
- 8:06Speaker 1: keeps possession, he keeps Michigan State from turning the ball over. UM.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I'll go the with the experience of Tom is Oh.
- 8:14Speaker 1: You look at all the four coaches that are there,
- 8:16Speaker 1: Tomzo has been there, and I think that could be very,
- 8:20Speaker 1: very key. But I'm with you. This is what Izo wants.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Iso doesn't want a game, he wants a fifty four game.
- 8:29Speaker 1: This is right, Michigan States Bruiser, Ali Ali, and this
- 8:34Speaker 1: game is going to be a barnburner. It really is,
- 8:36Speaker 1: and it's gonna be I think this is the first
- 8:38Speaker 1: six I would leave Texas. Text myself, I love the job.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Chris Beard is downe there you talking about tom the
- 8:47Speaker 1: all time great, but Chris Beard is an incredible, unreal
- 8:50Speaker 1: job in there, and that team outside of Virginia is
- 8:54Speaker 1: as good as any in the country defensively, I would
- 8:57Speaker 1: leave that way, but I think the Federals wander. Yeah,
- 9:00Speaker 1: I'm with you. And here's the other thing, Like, you
- 9:01Speaker 1: gotta give Chris Beards so much credit because here's the deal.
- 9:05Speaker 1: They're number one and adjusted defense. And like when you're
- 9:09Speaker 1: a coach at any level, every kid comes up and goes,
- 9:15Speaker 1: I want to hit, I want to shoot, bask No
- 9:18Speaker 1: one wants to play defense. So when you get your kids,
- 9:22Speaker 1: it's it's not sexy. So when you can get your
- 9:26Speaker 1: kids to buy into the defense, and now they've bought
- 9:29Speaker 1: in and like, listen, it's scary to bet against Texas
- 9:32Speaker 1: Tech right now. It really is the way they're playing.
- 9:34Speaker 1: So you got to give this guy all kinds of
- 9:36Speaker 1: credit because all the final four PAULI. Obviously, baseball season
- 9:43Speaker 1: has started up in the last week. We've got some
- 9:45Speaker 1: storylines that are kind of interesting. I want to get
- 9:47Speaker 1: your take on, first and foremost, what do you think
- 9:50Speaker 1: about the Philadelphia Phillies in the way they've started. I mean,
- 9:53Speaker 1: they've gotten off to it's hot to start as anyone
- 9:56Speaker 1: could have imagined. Bryce Harper goes back to d C,
- 9:59Speaker 1: has in himself a hell of a night. It's a
- 10:01Speaker 1: home run, engages with the crowd to bat, flip the
- 10:03Speaker 1: whole thing. Tell me what you think about the Phillies
- 10:05Speaker 1: start better than I than I expected. Maybe not better
- 10:10Speaker 1: than I expected. But you know, I had wrote an
- 10:12Speaker 1: article and I was completely wrong. When I had gotten
- 10:14Speaker 1: traded um to the Dodgers, from the Daughters to the Marlins,
- 10:20Speaker 1: I had to come back to to l A and
- 10:24Speaker 1: you have so many things in your mind. Now this
- 10:27Speaker 1: is completely different. You know, I got traded, he chose
- 10:30Speaker 1: to leave, but when I came back, I was all
- 10:31Speaker 1: out of sorts. I didn't know what to do. I
- 10:34Speaker 1: you know, cameras were in my face. Do I go
- 10:37Speaker 1: over and say hi to my other teammates? Um? Are
- 10:41Speaker 1: they gonna come over and say hi to me? The
- 10:43Speaker 1: guys I got traded for. It was just a weird situation.
- 10:46Speaker 1: So when Bryce came back, his first two at bats,
- 10:48Speaker 1: boom boom. He strikes out against Scherzer. But they were
- 10:52Speaker 1: able to put up right. I mean, that was so
- 10:55Speaker 1: key for the Phillies to go in for Series of
- 11:01Speaker 1: the Year and Spanky. They spanked them around, they really did.
- 11:05Speaker 1: And then when Sharzer got out of the game, the
- 11:08Speaker 1: games out of reach, Bryce hits the home run. All
- 11:11Speaker 1: the relief goes away. Believe me, when you go back
- 11:13Speaker 1: to your old ballpark, your old team, you're nervousness can be.
- 11:16Speaker 1: When he hit that home run, it was Katie by
- 11:19Speaker 1: the door. All the relief is gone. Then you got
- 11:22Speaker 1: a couple of hits. He had a couple of hits yesterday. Um,
- 11:27Speaker 1: and they got a real deal lineup. If McCutcheon keeps
- 11:29Speaker 1: playing like this, he's playing well. Riamalto gives you a
- 11:33Speaker 1: good at bat. Hoskins gives you a very very good
- 11:35Speaker 1: at bat, Bryce Harper gives you a good at bat,
- 11:38Speaker 1: Sir gurg gives you a good at bat. Now. Aaron
- 11:40Speaker 1: Nola got hit around a little bit yesterday. He'll right
- 11:43Speaker 1: the ship. He's very very good. But offensively, they are
- 11:46Speaker 1: going to put up some tremendous numbers if they stay healthy.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Looks like they will now. The flip side of that
- 11:52Speaker 1: coin the a l East, where we expected maybe two
- 11:56Speaker 1: teams to win a hundred games a piece. The Yankees
- 11:59Speaker 1: and Red Sox both kind of look like a mess
- 12:01Speaker 1: right now. And granted we're only a weekend, but what
- 12:04Speaker 1: do you make of what's going on with the Yankees?
- 12:06Speaker 1: I mean, they're a walking mash year and at this
- 12:08Speaker 1: point with all the injuries they have, and the Red
- 12:10Speaker 1: Sox are just struggling all over the field. So what
- 12:12Speaker 1: do you think the future holds for the two of
- 12:15Speaker 1: those things? Well, the Red Sox, Uh, I'm a little
- 12:19Speaker 1: bit more worried about the Yankees than I am the
- 12:21Speaker 1: Red Sox. The Red Sox, I can't say that either.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I mean, Christale only striking out one guy in his
- 12:28Speaker 1: velocity down worries me a little bit. I'm surprised that
- 12:32Speaker 1: Boston gave the extension. Um, obviously there's no structural Yeah,
- 12:38Speaker 1: but obviously there's no structural damage in their blackjack. But
- 12:42Speaker 1: Christale doesn't strike out one guy. I'm sorry. Nathan of
- 12:45Speaker 1: Aaldi got hit around again last night. Um, their bats
- 12:50Speaker 1: finally woke up. That that's going to be the key.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I mean, Um, their bats need to wake up. But
- 12:56Speaker 1: they didn't do much in the off season, did Boston?
- 12:58Speaker 1: Now the Yankees, Um, they're turning in the Mets. They
- 13:02Speaker 1: have more injuries. They're like the Mets the last two
- 13:05Speaker 1: years with all these injuries and now, uh, I mean
- 13:09Speaker 1: wishful thinking. Troy to Lewinsky got a mosquito bite and
- 13:12Speaker 1: boom he got hurt again. So uh, I mean honestly,
- 13:16Speaker 1: when they signed him, do they think they're going to
- 13:18Speaker 1: get more than four or five games out of him? Right?
- 13:22Speaker 1: So now you you mentioned just then the Mets tell
- 13:26Speaker 1: me to do what they're starting often put hot stuff himself.
- 13:30Speaker 1: What do you think can they sustained this? Well? Listen,
- 13:33Speaker 1: they went eleven and one to start the season last
- 13:35Speaker 1: year and everybody was excited, but it was a different
- 13:37Speaker 1: fools goal. When you have a kid like Peter Alonso
- 13:41Speaker 1: swinging the boat, the Way is a Rookie of the
- 13:43Speaker 1: Year candidate, UM with some kind of power. The ball
- 13:48Speaker 1: he hit the dead center the other night was a
- 13:50Speaker 1: bomb um. And then you put canoe, you put some
- 13:55Speaker 1: guys in the lineup. They can give you professional and bats.
- 13:59Speaker 1: They finally got to catch Or that knows what the
- 14:00Speaker 1: heck he's doing. And Wilson Ramos, so you can they've
- 14:05Speaker 1: had since. Well, I appreciate that. I appreciate what you Listen,
- 14:09Speaker 1: you need a guy who can handle the staff. I
- 14:11Speaker 1: mean like you've got guys like Mazzaraco talking ow he
- 14:16Speaker 1: handled Jason de Gram. Listen to me. My daughter could
- 14:19Speaker 1: catch Jacob Degraham and he wouldn't give up any runs, right,
- 14:22Speaker 1: So like, just go back there and hit and do
- 14:25Speaker 1: what you can. So Ralmos I think pieces together the
- 14:28Speaker 1: other guys because he's a veteran. And here's the other part.
- 14:31Speaker 1: He's been around the l e UM, the nl E
- 14:34Speaker 1: so he knows a lot of the hitters and and
- 14:36Speaker 1: that too. That's a big advantage. And people don't understand
- 14:38Speaker 1: those kind of things. But if they can stick together
- 14:41Speaker 1: and and in Callaway can stay out of his own
- 14:43Speaker 1: way because he's a little questionable. Some of the moves
- 14:45Speaker 1: that he makes, they can get in the hunt for
- 14:47Speaker 1: a little while. All Right, now, there's one more surprising
- 14:51Speaker 1: team that I have to get your take on. I
- 14:53Speaker 1: know our producer, Matt Ford, the Chuckler, is going to
- 14:56Speaker 1: really want to hear your opinion on this, and that's
- 14:58Speaker 1: the Baltimore Orioles. Wow, the team is off to a
- 15:01Speaker 1: surprising start, a team that I think most people expected
- 15:04Speaker 1: to be the worst in baseball. What are you seeing
- 15:07Speaker 1: out of Baltimore? I don't know. They're scoring runs and
- 15:12Speaker 1: it's even better that they they were. They scored three
- 15:17Speaker 1: runs in the ninth, but it's even better that they
- 15:20Speaker 1: beat the Yankees. And I know that he's he loves
- 15:23Speaker 1: it even more. They were back to back? Were they underdogs?
- 15:28Speaker 1: Three to one? Back to back and they beat the
- 15:30Speaker 1: Yankees something like that? Yeah, I mean pretty close. Yeah,
- 15:34Speaker 1: they were very very heavy dogs. Continue. Oh and then
- 15:39Speaker 1: here's the thing, is like Vegas is going to keep
- 15:41Speaker 1: on doubling down. Um, let's see today they're at home
- 15:46Speaker 1: in their plus one ninety four and they're playing the
- 15:47Speaker 1: Yankees again, Like, what do you do? Do you roll
- 15:50Speaker 1: with them again? I mean think? Uh, they're under and
- 15:54Speaker 1: over for wins was fifty seven. How do they have
- 15:58Speaker 1: already four? You got five four more left to go,
- 16:02Speaker 1: and it's a pretty good start. It's a great start.
- 16:05Speaker 1: It's surprising. But again, you know, with everything we're talking
- 16:08Speaker 1: about here, I want to cast you everyone. It's it's
- 16:10Speaker 1: week one, very very long day. And again with Boston,
- 16:14Speaker 1: they haven't even gotten their rings yet. How about that?
- 16:17Speaker 1: Like I, that's the other part. Going on a West
- 16:19Speaker 1: Coast swing, it sucks. It's just it's it's hard to do.
- 16:24Speaker 1: And they went on and they're going on and basically
- 16:26Speaker 1: nationally West Coast Swing and then they'll go on in
- 16:28Speaker 1: americanly West Coast Swing. So they had to do it
- 16:31Speaker 1: right out of spring training. So they haven't even gotten
- 16:34Speaker 1: their rings yet. They don't get their rings till the
- 16:36Speaker 1: ninth of April. So you know, I would chill on
- 16:40Speaker 1: Boston and listen. I know a lot of people say
- 16:42Speaker 1: I always hate on the Inkees. I would. The Yankees
- 16:45Speaker 1: are in trouble, Geane Carlos Stanton. I know he's hurt,
- 16:48Speaker 1: but he couldn't hit me, all right, Pali. So I
- 16:54Speaker 1: mentioned that the time to show that I'm out here
- 16:56Speaker 1: in Lexington, I'm actually heading to Keenland right now. You
- 16:59Speaker 1: mentioned in Santa Anita Derby. Give us a couple of
- 17:02Speaker 1: picks of this weekend in these big races. Well, obviously, uh,
- 17:06Speaker 1: I like game winner, um for badfort Um. There's not
- 17:12Speaker 1: a many that many horses. Uh in the Sanity and
- 17:16Speaker 1: Derby only six horse felt a lot of people, Yeah,
- 17:18Speaker 1: a lot of people are are you know, saying stay
- 17:22Speaker 1: away from Santa Nita. But the problem is there's a
- 17:24Speaker 1: lot in the wood and there's a lot in the
- 17:26Speaker 1: blue grass. But um, yeah, the last time a horse
- 17:29Speaker 1: won the Kentucky Derby from the wood was Fusa Hi
- 17:32Speaker 1: pigas this from people need to chill on that. There's
- 17:34Speaker 1: been like seventeen horses from California that have won the Derby.
- 17:37Speaker 1: So I don't care. Like in the blue Grass on Saturday,
- 17:44Speaker 1: that's a good question. I'll tell you what I'm looking at.
- 17:50Speaker 1: It's a little bit of a long shot. Is Sir Winston.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Sir Winston ran a very nice races last time out,
- 17:58Speaker 1: showed great closing speed. I think maybe in a race
- 18:01Speaker 1: like this he might have a shot in a bigger,
- 18:05Speaker 1: bigger fields. I actually do like yeah, um, actually do
- 18:10Speaker 1: like big fields. Closers and big fields. But what post.
- 18:15Speaker 1: I'm trying to looks see what post my horse drew.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I like the Coma, but he's nine in the five,
- 18:21Speaker 1: the weaver horse. Um, I can see where you're going,
- 18:27Speaker 1: Sir Winston that if you're looking for more chalk, I
- 18:32Speaker 1: would say, maybe win win Win is someone to take
- 18:34Speaker 1: a look at. Yeah, maybe Dreammaker can bounce back. He
- 18:38Speaker 1: seems like Cassie's horses seem like they bounce back. Um
- 18:43Speaker 1: at a price a little bit there. Um, Coma is
- 18:47Speaker 1: gonna be tough. I know, I know that we were
- 18:48Speaker 1: always like that horse a ton Um not the prettiest
- 18:53Speaker 1: mover in the world. There's many moves like his his
- 18:55Speaker 1: daddy a little bit. But um, he tries really hard
- 19:00Speaker 1: and he ran a good race last time. Um in Florida.
- 19:03Speaker 1: I do own this, uh spice perfection for Peter Miller.
- 19:08Speaker 1: It's gonna be very tough in the Madison. Um. I
- 19:11Speaker 1: talked to Peter the other day and they're shipping him
- 19:14Speaker 1: or ship excuse me her to Lexans and she's already there.
- 19:17Speaker 1: So Um, there's our there's our horse. Racing Picks of
- 19:21Speaker 1: the Weekend, Big Weekend and Racing it's a long time
- 19:25Speaker 1: for everyone's favorite part of the week, which is storytime
- 19:27Speaker 1: with Paula Duca. Uh. Now, Pauli, you were telling me
- 19:31Speaker 1: recently about a story involving some of your former Dodger
- 19:35Speaker 1: teammates and a bullpen car during a rain delay in Texas. Yeah,
- 19:40Speaker 1: this is a true story. Um. And uh, We're in
- 19:47Speaker 1: Texas and I had gotten called up for two days. Um,
- 19:55Speaker 1: there was a there was like a h a glitch
- 20:00Speaker 1: and the forty man roster Antonio Soona he uh he
- 20:05Speaker 1: like got hurt and like I don't know how it
- 20:10Speaker 1: worked out, but there was a spot open for two days,
- 20:14Speaker 1: and Glenn Hoffman had just got Bill Russell had just
- 20:18Speaker 1: got fired. If I'm not mistaken or was Yeah, it
- 20:23Speaker 1: was Bill Russell. Bill Russell got got fired. Glenn Hoffman
- 20:26Speaker 1: was an interim manager. Closed me in the office and
- 20:30Speaker 1: he basically says, hey, that I'd call you up for
- 20:32Speaker 1: a couple of days. And when you get called up
- 20:34Speaker 1: for a couple of days and you're in the minor leagues,
- 20:36Speaker 1: your pay goes up, so you're automatically soon as you
- 20:39Speaker 1: get sent down, you get to three days to like relax.
- 20:43Speaker 1: You don't have to meet the team that are other
- 20:46Speaker 1: and so it was like three two days and I
- 20:49Speaker 1: remember in those two days I pinched ran for Paul
- 20:53Speaker 1: Knirko me pinch running, yeah, catcher that that those are
- 20:56Speaker 1: That's what I did in those two days. But we're winning,
- 21:01Speaker 1: like uh, I want to say, was a a Saturday
- 21:05Speaker 1: night game or Friday night game one or the other. UM,
- 21:08Speaker 1: And we're winning like nine one in the seventh inning
- 21:12Speaker 1: and it's like just torrential downpour UM, and it's coming
- 21:18Speaker 1: down like like monsoon Texas style. UM in Arlington, m M.
- 21:24Speaker 1: And it looks like like, you know, they're just gonna
- 21:27Speaker 1: call the game. We're up seven one, and it was
- 21:30Speaker 1: already through the seventh inning, UM or nine month excuse me,
- 21:35Speaker 1: and we're already through the seventh thinning. And so you
- 21:38Speaker 1: get updates and the clubhouse guys come in here and there.
- 21:41Speaker 1: When the clubhouse guys come in and they say listen, UM,
- 21:46Speaker 1: they're gonna make a decision. And about half hour, but
- 21:50Speaker 1: the last time I heard there, you know, basically you're
- 21:52Speaker 1: just gonna call the game whatever. So UM, in Arlington,
- 21:58Speaker 1: there's a strip club about to about a mile and
- 22:01Speaker 1: a half, maybe less than a mile away from the ballpark. Well,
- 22:05Speaker 1: it was poorn rain so much that half the stadium
- 22:08Speaker 1: left there was anything. They're down nine one. So a
- 22:11Speaker 1: bunch of the boys from the bullpen got some money
- 22:14Speaker 1: together and we're having a couple of pops because they
- 22:18Speaker 1: got the game was basically over. So they hopped in
- 22:22Speaker 1: the bullpen cart in their cleats, in their unis and
- 22:29Speaker 1: went to the Strip Club. Went into the Strip Club.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Every one of them got a lap dance in their
- 22:41Speaker 1: spikes as myn Mike cuts out in their Uni. Okay, okay.
- 22:48Speaker 1: So then I'm sitting there and the Carrols who's the rep, goes, Hey,
- 22:58Speaker 1: the umpire just came in and said, the game's still
- 23:02Speaker 1: not canceled yet. Uh, we have to try to get
- 23:05Speaker 1: this game in because we're not coming back to Texas,
- 23:09Speaker 1: you know, we don't want to come back to Texas
- 23:10Speaker 1: in the middle of August. Uh and have to play
- 23:14Speaker 1: in one of our days off this and that. I mean, well, guys,
- 23:19Speaker 1: you want to finish it. So boom, fifteen minutes later, Hey,
- 23:26Speaker 1: they're they're taken off the tarp. It's gonna be ready. Well,
- 23:29Speaker 1: we start panic and start calling these guys, well, none
- 23:31Speaker 1: of them took took their phones to the strip club
- 23:35Speaker 1: in the bullpen cart. God knows where they parked the
- 23:37Speaker 1: bullpen cart. I can't evenieve they let him in. But
- 23:40Speaker 1: you got again again. This is before camera phones. Um,
- 23:46Speaker 1: so we come back and they get back just in time.
- 23:50Speaker 1: It's like four guys and you can just see like
- 23:55Speaker 1: in the sixth inning or like not in the sixth
- 23:58Speaker 1: ex gonna be like in the eighth inning. Bought in
- 24:00Speaker 1: the eighth when they pulled off the tarp and like
- 24:03Speaker 1: there was two outs. You see like four guys sprinting
- 24:05Speaker 1: to the bullpen, and I'm like, okay, and you see
- 24:10Speaker 1: Glenn Hoffen goes what happened to? Where are these guys been?
- 24:14Speaker 1: And then all I heard was something like oh, there,
- 24:17Speaker 1: they're in the bathroom. And remember half going They all
- 24:21Speaker 1: go to the bathroom at the same time. So he
- 24:24Speaker 1: was dumbfounded. He didn't know what was going on. Long
- 24:29Speaker 1: story short, all four of those guys came in. We
- 24:32Speaker 1: lost the game eleven nine. Do wait a second. The
- 24:36Speaker 1: four guys who left to go to the strip club
- 24:39Speaker 1: in the game in the eighth sitting at this point
- 24:42Speaker 1: and blow an eight run lead, eight run lead and
- 24:50Speaker 1: just to be clear you were not one of the
- 24:51Speaker 1: guys in the strip club. No. I just got called
- 24:54Speaker 1: up like like two hours earlier. I was like, this happens.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I'm remember telling myself, this kind of stuff happens here.
- 25:05Speaker 1: You could just take the bullpen was corrupted early. I
- 25:12Speaker 1: could just at those times, I was wearing ponies, so
- 25:16Speaker 1: I could just go in ponies and go into you know,
- 25:22Speaker 1: Lucy's cabaret and get a lap dance in my spike.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I mean, like, were the spikes hitting the floor? Was there?
- 25:27Speaker 1: It was there carpet at this strip club? What the
- 25:29Speaker 1: heck was going on? I don't know, Polly, I don't
- 25:33Speaker 1: know the interior decor of Arlington, Texas clubs. Do you
- 25:37Speaker 1: think they thought it was Halloween? People at the strip club,
- 25:42Speaker 1: I don't know the bullpenk car am I giving it
- 25:44Speaker 1: away a little bit. Here's my thing is when I
- 25:49Speaker 1: think it was like the next day we went out
- 25:52Speaker 1: and I think we had a day off. They were drunk,
- 25:57Speaker 1: and I remember asking one of them, like the guy
- 26:00Speaker 1: at the at the thing, I said, you wanted to
- 26:03Speaker 1: valet park the bullpen card? I'm like, are you absolutely
- 26:11Speaker 1: kidding me? Because the guy at the valet didn't know
- 26:13Speaker 1: what was going on, like, and they're like no, no, no, no,
- 26:16Speaker 1: we're just dressed up. But this is our own thing,
- 26:19Speaker 1: didn't you know? He didn't know what was going on,
- 26:22Speaker 1: and they're like, no, no, we'll just park it here.
- 26:24Speaker 1: And then the valley guy was trying to tell him
- 26:26Speaker 1: from what I heard, like, you can't just park this
- 26:28Speaker 1: thing in the middle of nowhere. We gotta park it somewhere. Yeah. Well, Polly,
- 26:33Speaker 1: you your wealth of entertainment, you never disappoint. Oh god, alright,
