- 0:09home games at ukon tickets dot com. Yukon Huskies Football get in on the
- 0:15reload. Mike Christino back with head coach Jim Moore as Huskies gets set for
- 0:19Georgia's State the Panthers down at Center Park Stadium, the old Turner Field seats
- 0:25twenty five thousand. They played ure in their opener and a forty two thirty
- 0:31five win over one of the best teams in the FCS RI at top twenty
- 0:35five FCS team Jim. First of all, their quarterback Darren Granger completed fourteen
- 0:42straight passes. That's not easy. I don't care where you play, I
- 0:46don't care if it's in the sandlot. He completed fourteenth straight in that game.
- 0:50So he's got to be a pretty good quarterback. I think he's a
- 0:53really good quarterback. I have watched, you know, the game that he
- 0:57played the other night, and then all these games last year, and I
- 1:00think he's really impressive. I think he's poised in the pocket. I think
- 1:03he reads coverages very very well. I think he works through his progressions.
- 1:07I think he knows where to go with the football in every every defense you
- 1:11play has a strength and weakness, and he knows where to go with the
- 1:15football. He knows where you're gonna, you know, be challenged defensively.
- 1:19And he's got the ability to run. You know, he's a big guy.
- 1:23He's a six ft three twenty five pounder, maybe six foot four.
- 1:27He can run with power. He's fearless and uh, you know, he
- 1:32poses a big threat because he can sling it. He throws a tremendous fade
- 1:36ball, he throws a tremendous post. He throws a tremendous fade stop out
- 1:40on the boundary. He can throw from one hash to the other sideline.
- 1:45You know, I think he's a really really good football player. Hey,
- 1:49where's number three four of the Panthers? And they run the ball well,
- 1:53I mean they did last week two hundred thirty one yards. Gavin Pringle twenty
- 1:59three times one hundred and eighty four. He's a transfer from Bucknell. He
- 2:02works number three and number twenty three. Marcus Carroll scored three touchdowns and we
- 2:07talked with Durante Jones about this, and you'll hear later in the show he
- 2:12played against this guy in high school. The dude is five ten, two
- 2:15ten. He scored three touchdowns. So they can run to football pretty well
- 2:19well. They were I think fourteens in the country last year running the football.
- 2:23And sometimes when you think of these teams that spread it out a lot
- 2:25and go really fast like these guys, do you think of a team that
- 2:29throws it well. And they do throw it well, but they also run
- 2:32it very very well, and you know not besides their running backs and their
- 2:37quarterbacks are run threats. So you know, I think with most with most
- 2:40football games that I've been involved with in my life, is if you can
- 2:44get the run under control, you got a shot. If teams are running
- 2:46wild on you, they've got you both ways, and that that makes it
- 2:50tough. So we have to do a great job of stopping not only their
- 2:53design runs that are run plays, but also designed quarterback runs, quarterback draws,
- 2:59and any scramble plays. They The Panthers against QRII Rhode Island allowed five
- 3:06hundred twenty yards four hundred and eight through the air. I'm sure Nick Carlton
- 3:10is like licking his chops right now saying let's go, let's put it in
- 3:14the air, as he talked to you about this yet No, I mean,
- 3:17look, we just want to have a good game plan for what they
- 3:20do. Our objective every week is you get the hand in the ball in
- 3:23the hands of our playmakers and hopefully they can make some plays. Put them
- 3:27in a position where they you know, they have some open space and they
- 3:30can make some plays. You know, every week's a different proposition. Just
- 3:35because they struggled, you know against the past last week, maybe they put
- 3:38extra emphasis on it and practice this week and push up some run stuff.
- 3:42So you know, you're go into a game of the plan and then you
- 3:46adjust that plan as the game goes. I would like to see our offense
- 3:50be more explosive this week than we were last week, just like I'd like
- 3:53to see our defense tackle better. So you know, for us, it's
- 3:57about just trying to go out and really execute. And I know every coach
- 4:00says that you gotta go execute, you gotta go execute. Well, it's
- 4:02the truth. You know, you prepare all week for your opponent, but
- 4:06on game day you're playing against your standard. You're playing you know, you
- 4:10don't know what you're going to see. So you're you're you know, you're
- 4:12trying to stick to your rules, and you're trying to play with great technique
- 4:15and fundamentals and great effort and great focus, and when you get a chance
- 4:18to make a play, you want to go make a play. Having said
- 4:23that, I'm not as big as stat guys who may think. But as
- 4:27you're watching, knowing what ball game, and you're gonna probably dispute this,
- 4:30but as you're watching that football game with NC State, I know, looking
- 4:33going going forward against Georgia State, third down conversions by NC State that kept
- 4:41the ball in their hands a little too much for my liking. And on
- 4:45your side of the ball, you want to keep the ball and keep drives
- 4:46going. So is that one of the keys you think to this game coming
- 4:49up? Yeah, for sure. I think it's a key to any game.
- 4:53You know, I think there's some stats that are relevant. You know,
- 4:55your critical variables. Turnover ratio is a huge critical variable to winning a
- 5:00football game. You know, winning on third and fourth down that ratio is
- 5:04a huge critical variable to winning a football game. Quarterbacks sacks huge critical variable
- 5:13to winning a football game. So you know we're winning in the red zone.
- 5:17With the red zone ratio is a huge critical variable to winning a football
- 5:21game. And you know, we didn't win the third down battle, we
- 5:25didn't win the turnover battle. The red zone battle was even. So you
- 5:29know, they won two of the three most critical variables in the game and
- 5:31they won the game. So it's always very, very important that you do
- 5:34all you can to win those situations. You're running backs. You had a
- 5:41group playing in the game, and Victor Rosa had the long touchdown round ninety
- 5:46six yards or whatever he had. Overall, you went with Demante Houston,
- 5:50Brian Brewton a lot. Jayleen Mitchell didn't get a lot of reps in that
- 5:54game. Is that because he's still kind of learning what's going on? Or
- 5:58what do you what do you how do you factor in in as you go
- 6:00forward? He played, but he didn't carry the ball. I don't believe
- 6:04you know, those are our three primary backs right now. Jalen is certainly,
- 6:10you know, in the rotation. He's part of the part of the
- 6:15you know, the guys, the group that we depend on. He just
- 6:17didn't get his opportunities in that game. I think you know part of it,
- 6:20Mike, like you said, is that we were a little bit limited
- 6:24in how many plays that we had offensively, you know, not staying on
- 6:27the field on third down, We're not getting them off the field on third
- 6:30down on defense and giving our offense another possession, you know. So I
- 6:33think that affected his his chances with the ball in his hands. But you'll
- 6:38see more and more of him as you know, as we get into games
- 6:41where we get more offensive plays and we're running the ball more effectively, you're
- 6:45gonna see Jalen all right, that's good news. We'll take a quick time
- 6:47out with the Jim Moore. We're gonna discuss California football high school style versus
- 6:54Georgia, versus Texas versus Florida. We'll find out what the coach thinks about
- 6:58that. You're listening to UK Football and the Coaches Show on Liarfield.
