- 0:00Speaker 1: As we walking you into the NHL on d n
- 0:02Speaker 1: T Poast game show was out of my band of pharmaceuticals.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Leam mcew Henrik Klonquist any words, you want to give
- 0:09Speaker 1: your Viking thought that for a sid you think he's
- 0:13Speaker 1: just it's his family.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Long day at the beach tomorrow.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Those guys look at them, it looks like this we walked.
- 0:24Speaker 1: It's a Carter Leam mceue, Paulpa's Innett, Wayne Gretzky uh
- 0:30Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty two combined penalty mets in that
- 0:33Speaker 1: third period. Brian Bousche said it, and I think it's
- 0:36Speaker 1: the first time we experienced it during this this final series.
- 0:40Speaker 1: It felt like what the Panthers do when they irritate
- 0:42Speaker 1: and they agitate. Finally got to Edmonton tonight.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Yeah, and hopefully this was a one and done right.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Right from the beginning of the game the first shift,
- 0:53Speaker 4: you could tell Florida had something that Edmonton didn't have,
- 0:57Speaker 4: and Florida created the atmosps sphere to the way they
- 1:01Speaker 4: wanted to play tonight. They were moving the puck, they
- 1:04Speaker 4: were creating chances. Their goaltender was better, the defense were better,
- 1:08Speaker 4: they were moving the puck and I agree. Consequently, Evonton
- 1:12Speaker 4: got frustrated at the end, and you know, for Edmonton,
- 1:15Speaker 4: they're gonna have to turn around, and one of the
- 1:17Speaker 4: big things is they're going to have to realize they
- 1:20Speaker 4: got to initiate, not retaliate. They retaliated the whole game,
- 1:24Speaker 4: and that's not going to make you successful. You got
- 1:26Speaker 4: to initiate, whether it's getting to the puck first, whether
- 1:28Speaker 4: it's taking the body first. Everything seemed to be a
- 1:31Speaker 4: response to what Florida was doing to them. And listen,
- 1:34Speaker 4: I'm not blaming the goaltender, but that goaltender has to
- 1:37Speaker 4: be as good as Bob or You're just you're gonna
- 1:40Speaker 4: have knights like this.
- 1:40Speaker 1: We're gonna talk more about that situation going forward with Themton,
- 1:43Speaker 1: but let's get to the highlight right here, because you're right,
- 1:45Speaker 1: it was a night of things happening to the Oilers,
- 1:48Speaker 1: and the oilers trying to respond. McDavid magical hole first
- 1:51Speaker 1: couple of games or Gabbrowski ready to go for this one,
- 1:54Speaker 1: put right off of bat damn out of Bayo smashing
- 1:57Speaker 1: that drum, and early on here come the Panthers here
- 2:01Speaker 1: and Brad Marshen and where is Stewart Skinner?
- 2:03Speaker 5: Yeah, and as Wayne said, you can't really just blame
- 2:06Speaker 5: the goaltender. An uncharacteristic guy off the face off center
- 2:09Speaker 5: on center, dry side loses this guy. They set a
- 2:11Speaker 5: pick play, go right to the blue paint and Marshaw
- 2:14Speaker 5: goes skate to stick and they went from bad to
- 2:16Speaker 5: worse after that. You can't take penalties. They took four
- 2:19Speaker 5: miners the orders in the first period. Yeah, I know, Ford,
- 2:22Speaker 5: it did two. But look at this execution, a beautiful
- 2:24Speaker 5: passover from Rodriguez. He goes upstairs and for hey, he
- 2:27Speaker 5: doesn't miss.
- 2:28Speaker 2: A and they used that bumper play many times tonight.
- 2:31Speaker 2: It's definitely something Edmonton needs to talk about. Goldie into
- 2:33Speaker 2: Game four.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Here's the one highlight for the Oilers, and it's a
- 2:36Speaker 1: positive that Perry's playing as well and his hands are
- 2:38Speaker 1: still this good.
- 2:39Speaker 3: What a play, I mean, bomb is anticipating the deflection.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Corey Perry used those sweet hands to stop the fucking
- 2:44Speaker 3: put it home. But what a night for Sasha Barkup.
- 2:47Speaker 3: The guy was a monster on the penalty kill grab
- 2:49Speaker 3: him the fore check and makes that play there. But
- 2:52Speaker 3: getting over to Ryan Hart who takes advantage.
- 2:54Speaker 1: That Walman screen and then it's a physical play that
- 2:57Speaker 1: we saw in this series Sam Bennett's to force scoring goals.
- 3:01Speaker 1: But then I rotates and then just takes the body.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean he was a force tonight, just really
- 3:08Speaker 5: getting underneath the skin of the other superstars. And here's
- 3:11Speaker 5: the end up breakaway, beautiful little move here, backhand forehand,
- 3:16Speaker 5: cheese on Skinner. I thought they maybe should have pulled
- 3:18Speaker 5: them at this point.
- 3:19Speaker 2: No, Hank, I was just gonna say that shift will
- 3:21Speaker 2: descend to a lot of hockey camps this summer to
- 3:24Speaker 2: explain how do you have a great shift? A's a forward,
- 3:26Speaker 2: a couple of big hits, and then you finished like that.
- 3:28Speaker 3: That was textbook heads up, bush, heads up, little range
- 3:31Speaker 3: showers there. I keep thinking that Florida Panthers have to
- 3:34Speaker 3: fire their trainer because they keep missing an action number
- 3:38Speaker 3: nine on Bennett's jersey, number nine.
- 3:42Speaker 4: And that's how bad the night was going for the Oilers.
- 3:44Speaker 4: They got the TV guy, nobody for the Panthers couldn't
- 3:49Speaker 4: even get the water right.
- 3:50Speaker 5: I think he was just trying to cool them down,
- 3:52Speaker 5: consider well they were playing for.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Fires are about to cross there, He's banging the glass
- 3:58Speaker 1: and then listen, Bennett trying not to retaliate.
- 4:02Speaker 5: At all, I mean smart in this position. And they
- 4:05Speaker 5: got guys on that roster who handled this. Gadzovitch goes
- 4:07Speaker 5: over and he wants to handle the business as he did.
- 4:10Speaker 5: He ends up getting pair up with Nurse and this
- 4:12Speaker 5: one went the test. Look there, I think even the
- 4:17Speaker 5: Vikings down there would be scared of that guy.
- 4:20Speaker 4: As big as those two guys. You're there.
- 4:22Speaker 1: But Jony Gadzovitch, he's a phenomenal story too. I mean,
- 4:26Speaker 1: here's a guy who has a healthy scratch their entire
- 4:28Speaker 1: playoff run last year to the Stanley Cup, comes back
- 4:31Speaker 1: healthy scratch for the Tampas Series. The first two games
- 4:34Speaker 1: of that Toronto series. Then all of a sudden, Paul
- 4:36Speaker 1: Maurice says, hey, you're in. He hasn't left the lineup
- 4:39Speaker 1: since and he was such a huge part of what
- 4:41Speaker 1: they did tonight.
- 4:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:42Speaker 2: You know what, any great team make everyone feel important.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I think that's a great skill for great teams. Doesn't
- 4:49Speaker 2: matter if you play two minutes, if you're scratched, you
- 4:51Speaker 2: come in and play a.
- 4:52Speaker 6: Couple of games.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Everybody in that room makes sure everybody has an important role,
- 4:56Speaker 2: no matter how many minutes you play and he comes
- 4:59Speaker 2: in and he's been.
- 5:00Speaker 6: I'm start and then then they just have the w
- 5:07Speaker 6: W wrestler from Monstralia or something looked just like that guy.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Oh man, I feel like are gonna be the next
- 5:14Speaker 1: tag team that got those antics downs. But we're gonna
- 5:19Speaker 1: talk to down neck Budd just a little bit. But
- 5:21Speaker 1: uh I mentioned just a statement win and the physicality.
- 5:25Speaker 1: It's not just the fights that we saw at the end.
- 5:27Speaker 1: It felt like they were hits with a purpose here
- 5:30Speaker 1: and hits on certain players. It is going after guys
- 5:34Speaker 1: that mattered in this game and showing they're not going
- 5:37Speaker 1: to be pushed around, and and it was key guys
- 5:39Speaker 1: doing that.
- 5:40Speaker 3: It was I mean Bouchard reciping a couple of hits there.
- 5:42Speaker 3: You see Benning getting it as the classic Florida Panthers
- 5:46Speaker 3: pack mentality, and Conor McDavid they targeted him all the time.
- 5:50Speaker 3: They forced him to play through. You. You know, it's
- 5:52Speaker 3: hard to score goals and your were in and I'm
- 5:53Speaker 3: sure ninety seven is gonna respond after this game, but
- 5:55Speaker 3: the Florida Panthers really made sure that they went after him.
- 5:58Speaker 3: And if you're coming after one you're taking on the
- 6:01Speaker 3: whole team.
- 6:02Speaker 5: And that's the mentality they've had for a few years now.
- 6:04Speaker 5: And they've built an amazing culture and they have toughness.
- 6:07Speaker 5: And on top of that, they throw Aj Grew in
- 6:09Speaker 5: the lineup tonight after back from injury. So talk about
- 6:11Speaker 5: another tough guy who can handle himself. So this team
- 6:14Speaker 5: is just too big, too strong right now, and especially
- 6:16Speaker 5: if Oilers don't play their game. I felt like they
- 6:19Speaker 5: really played into Florida's hand tonight. They just got to
- 6:21Speaker 5: worry about playing between the whistles, as Wayne talked about,
- 6:24Speaker 5: because if they continue to play like that, and especially
- 6:26Speaker 5: with that type of start, this one could all of
- 6:28Speaker 5: a sudden end very quickly.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Well, I think you said it best. They got to initiate,
- 6:32Speaker 4: not retaliate. They've got a team that's good enough to
- 6:36Speaker 4: regroup here. They still need in one to come down
- 6:38Speaker 4: here and split. Right, it's easy to say we're gonna
- 6:41Speaker 4: go down there and win both games. You're playing against
- 6:43Speaker 4: the Stanley Cup champions. Go down there, win one game,
- 6:47Speaker 4: go home to too, and get back to your home
- 6:48Speaker 4: court advantage. So the regroup. They've done it in the past,
- 6:52Speaker 4: they did it last year. I know that this was
- 6:54Speaker 4: probably one of their tougher playoff games they've had all year.
- 6:57Speaker 4: But they're playing a great team and a great team
- 6:59Speaker 4: that's played in the style in the system, and the
- 7:01Speaker 4: Oilers can't play to their styling system. They got to
- 7:04Speaker 4: beat play Edmonton oil hockey and that's fast, crisp, whistle
- 7:08Speaker 4: to whistle and play hard and get a big safe.
- 7:11Speaker 1: See Corey Berry here talk to some folks after the game.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I mean, you know that mentality and having that veteran
- 7:18Speaker 1: presence of leadership, a guy who's been there. It's you're
- 7:20Speaker 1: not going to dwell on it for too long. And
- 7:23Speaker 1: there's uh Ratking with his bands.
- 7:28Speaker 5: Drinking cheddar cheese protein shake.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Where's he drinking a coffee?
- 7:31Speaker 5: No, cheddar cheese protein shake.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Only Darren pa is drinking coffee right now.
- 7:35Speaker 4: I thought, you have to have cherries in it or now.
- 7:39Speaker 5: Don't don't start right now, I don't start, but show
- 7:42Speaker 5: me that the other day. Do you feel no, that's
- 7:44Speaker 5: for gout, Oh stop. Do you feel like the lack
- 7:49Speaker 5: of discipline? I mean you talk about the cane penalty
- 7:52Speaker 5: two hundred feet through your net high stick on Marshall.
- 7:54Speaker 5: I really felt like the flow of the lines for
- 7:56Speaker 5: Edmonton were taking out of it early. And you could
- 7:58Speaker 5: say the same about Florida, but I mean, you got
- 8:01Speaker 5: tons of guys who can penalty kill on that team,
- 8:02Speaker 5: where I feel like it's maybe a little bit more
- 8:04Speaker 5: limited for the Oilers.
- 8:05Speaker 4: I agree. I think what happened was the Oilers got
- 8:08Speaker 4: taken out of their game what they wanted to do,
- 8:11Speaker 4: and I think with those penalties early, some of their
- 8:13Speaker 4: key players on their bench didn't get into the game right,
- 8:16Speaker 4: and all of a sudden, you got two or three
- 8:18Speaker 4: guys playing more than they should be, and you got
- 8:20Speaker 4: three or four guys sitting there and you can't get
- 8:21Speaker 4: into the flow. And Florida they played their game and
- 8:25Speaker 4: they sort of go one two three four three four
- 8:28Speaker 4: three two one like they Edmonton doesn't shorten their bench
- 8:32Speaker 4: as much. And you know, I just thought that Florida
- 8:36Speaker 4: played the game they wanted to play and Edmonton didn't
- 8:39Speaker 4: play their game. And trust me, they're going to be
- 8:41Speaker 4: way better in Game four. And they got to start
- 8:43Speaker 4: the very first shift in stay out of the penalty box.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Yeah, and when you do get a power play, you
- 8:47Speaker 1: got to take advantage of We're used to seeing the
- 8:49Speaker 1: Edmonton Oilers do that there, one for six on the
- 8:51Speaker 1: power play tonight. Often they take other team takes the penalty.
- 8:55Speaker 1: They make them play that wasn't they make a play
- 8:57Speaker 1: that was not the case tonight, six to one on
- 9:00Speaker 1: the final. In this one, Sam Bennett doing work, scoring goals,
- 9:05Speaker 1: the hits the scoring, and the Panthers are two wins
- 9:09Speaker 1: away from repeating as Stanley Cup champs.
