- 0:00Speaker 1: No, wait. Before we talk about that lantern, we got
- 0:02Speaker 1: to talk about his other lantern where he broke out.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Where he broke out the time. We saw him in
- 0:08Speaker 2: his boxers.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I knew he was going to go.
- 0:10Speaker 3: There because he can't help himself.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I was like, it was heavy, baby.

- 1:41Speaker 1: Wielder of the Rainbow Lantern, and finally, a.k.a. the Black
- 1:45Speaker 1: Phoenix Force.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Period. Very good. I love that last one.
- 1:49Speaker 5: Excellent job.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Well, guys, we are here, as mentioned, to review, recap,
- 1:54Speaker 4: talk all things Lantern, specifically episode five titled Lights Out.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Before we get into the full details of everything, I'm
- 2:02Speaker 4: going to ask the both of you, what did you
- 2:03Speaker 4: think overall of this episode? Especially considering where we are
- 2:08Speaker 4: in the season. We only have three.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Episodes left, I think. Yeah. So, Michael, since you're here,
- 2:14Speaker 3: tell us what you thought.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Overall, I did like the episode. I do feel like
- 2:22Speaker 1: the weakness of this show and then this episode in
- 2:27Speaker 1: general is really focused on the relationship or lack thereof
- 2:31Speaker 1: or lack the chemistry thereof between Zoe and John. So
- 2:36Speaker 1: if I had to give a weakness of the episode,
- 2:38Speaker 1: it's that. But outside of that, I really like this episode.
- 2:41Speaker 1: It really felt like a season finale episode. There was
- 2:44Speaker 1: a lot more action and things that I wanted from
- 2:46Speaker 1: like a Green Lantern mythos, constructs and battles and things
- 2:50Speaker 1: like that. And like, it just has me curious, especially
- 2:53Speaker 1: being that this is only episode five. Where the hell
- 2:55Speaker 1: are we going from here? Absolutely.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Okay.
- 2:59Speaker 4: I definitely want to touch on some stuff that you said,
- 3:01Speaker 4: but before I do, Portia, please give your take.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I enjoy the episode.
- 3:06Speaker 5: I think that it validated some of my thoughts around
- 3:10Speaker 5: how much time we were going to be spending in
- 3:11Speaker 5: this town this season. And I was partway through the
- 3:16Speaker 5: episode where I was like, oh, we're going to go
- 3:19Speaker 5: to 2026. We're not going to see 2016. This is
- 3:22Speaker 5: the last of it. And then seeing the preview trailer
- 3:25Speaker 5: for next week established, yeah, that's pretty much what's going
- 3:28Speaker 5: to happen. So now I'm excited because I think... Having
- 3:32Speaker 5: given Fettus so early on with the lead-in of, like,
- 3:35Speaker 5: 2026 leads us with Hal dead and also ringless has
- 3:41Speaker 5: had me been like, okay, are we going to actually
- 3:43Speaker 5: spend time getting there?
- 3:44Speaker 3: And so now I'm excited to actually see it all
- 3:46Speaker 3: play out.
- 3:47Speaker 5: I think that this episode gave us exactly what we
- 3:50Speaker 5: needed to be ready to go on that journey and
- 3:52Speaker 5: take ourselves into 2026. Yeah. Yeah, definitely.
- 3:56Speaker 3: I did like you, Michael.
- 3:57Speaker 4: I did feel this felt very finale-ish because it was
- 4:00Speaker 4: it was the big battle, the big boss, you know,
- 4:03Speaker 4: the twists and turns. It involved both Hal and and
- 4:07Speaker 4: John just pretty much battling each other.
- 4:10Speaker 3: And it was supposed to be like a culmination of everything.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:13Speaker 3: So I did.
- 4:13Speaker 4: It felt very like end of the season. But at
- 4:16Speaker 4: the same time, it still left so many unresolved notes.
- 4:19Speaker 5: Right.
- 4:20Speaker 4: Unresolved notes about the whole thing with John. taking on
- 4:23Speaker 4: the Green Lantern mantle. He essentially just said, hell no,
- 4:27Speaker 4: I don't want it no more. Right.
- 4:28Speaker 3: You had that the whole situation with Liana.
- 4:30Speaker 4: You know, we have a lot of theories about what
- 4:33Speaker 4: Liana is really getting at, whether she's like a rogue agent,
- 4:36Speaker 4: if she's even any of these people to be trusted.
- 4:39Speaker 4: People are still lying to each other. Even in this episode,
- 4:42Speaker 4: the lies, the.
- 4:43Speaker 5: Lies, the lies.
- 4:44Speaker 3: It's just still happening. It's just no end in sight.
- 4:47Speaker 4: And, you know, I'm also still interested in the other smaller, like, mysteries.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Like, who the hell is Carrie? Like, Carrie Kane? Like,
- 4:53Speaker 3: who's her father? Who was she running from? All this stuff.
- 4:55Speaker 4: But there's one thing you said that I definitely think
- 4:57Speaker 4: I want to start with when you said, like, this
- 4:59Speaker 4: whole relationship thing.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Interestingly.
- 5:02Speaker 5: Let's get into it.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Yeah, let's get into it.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Because I got a lot to say.
- 5:07Speaker 4: So, last episode, Genesia, shout out to Genesia F, actually
- 5:09Speaker 4: came on and pointed that out, that she felt like
- 5:12Speaker 4: this was a weird relationship. We didn't under... She, and
- 5:15Speaker 4: I agreed with her, didn't even understand, like... Like, it
- 5:18Speaker 4: didn't feel real. It feels weird and manufactured and not
- 5:22Speaker 4: like something that would have happened naturally.
- 5:25Speaker 2: So, I.
- 5:27Speaker 4: I don't understand what we were supposed to feel with
- 5:30Speaker 4: them being together and the whole, Oh, you, you see
- 5:32Speaker 4: me stuff.
- 5:33Speaker 3: I think it was a little corny to me. I
- 5:35Speaker 3: don't know.
- 5:35Speaker 5: What do you think?
- 5:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Like you're telling me all of this stuff, but I
- 5:38Speaker 2: don't feel it.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Like nothing to get like Aaron Pierre and Porta, John
- 5:42Speaker 1: and Lathan, like they're really good actors, but some actors,
- 5:46Speaker 1: it doesn't matter how good you are. You either have
- 5:49Speaker 1: chemistry or you don't. And I feel like the two
- 5:51Speaker 1: of them have no chemistry.
- 5:54Speaker 5: I don't know if it's the acting.
- 5:55Speaker 3: I think it's the material.
- 5:57Speaker 5: I don't think that there's been enough established for us
- 6:00Speaker 5: to feel like.
- 6:01Speaker 3: That's why on my... Also, I'm going to say this.
- 6:04Speaker 3: I'm very ace.
- 6:05Speaker 5: So there's times where things are supposed to... People are
- 6:09Speaker 5: flirting or whatever. And I'm like, is that what flirting is?
- 6:12Speaker 5: I thought they were just being nice. So I don't
- 6:14Speaker 5: always pick up on when things are supposed to be
- 6:17Speaker 5: a thing. So for me, if they're supposed.
- 6:21Speaker 5: It makes more sense to me if this is all
- 6:23Speaker 5: just them functioning, like they're just like doing what they
- 6:28Speaker 5: feel like doing without actually needing a reason behind it
- 6:31Speaker 5: or actually having like a big level of attraction. It's
- 6:33Speaker 5: just like, I'm in town. I haven't had sex in
- 6:37Speaker 5: a while. You seem like you're down. Let's do it.
- 6:40Speaker 5: And then like, even like, cause like even their cuddle
- 6:43Speaker 5: time or I guess like pillow talk time, it wasn't
- 6:46Speaker 5: really pillow talk. So I'm like, it gave like, we're
- 6:49Speaker 5: just sharing information. I don't, I never saw it, but
- 6:52Speaker 5: I didn't think it was supposed to be seen. I
- 6:54Speaker 5: didn't think it was supposed to be happening.
- 6:55Speaker 1: That's kind of what I mean about like, that's what
- 6:57Speaker 1: I mean. Like, I don't think it's the actors, but like, Like,
- 7:01Speaker 1: it's just... Whether actors are good or not, you just
- 7:05Speaker 1: have chemistry with somebody.
- 7:06Speaker 2: So, like, even if you're sitting in a room silent.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Or whatever, like, you can feel the chemistry and the
- 7:12Speaker 1: tension between characters. And with these two characters, I feel
- 7:15Speaker 1: absolutely nothing. And, like, I'll even bring up something like
- 7:18Speaker 1: the vampire-less stat interview with the vampire.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I'm not sure if you saw.
- 7:21Speaker 1: If you guys watch those shows, but like Louis and Lestat,
- 7:24Speaker 1: the chemistry is flying off the page. The rivalry, the
- 7:27Speaker 1: chemistry between Hudson Williams and Connor story is flying off
- 7:30Speaker 1: the pale. Even just using lanterns, the chemistry between John's
- 7:34Speaker 1: Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler eyes off the page. But
- 7:38Speaker 1: when I looked at John's story, especially with as much
- 7:42Speaker 1: as they're pouring into this relationship and having him, he
- 7:45Speaker 1: cried at the end when he shot her in the head.
- 7:47Speaker 1: I'm just like, I feel like that line that he
- 7:52Speaker 1: said to Liana at the end of the episode, he said,
- 7:54Speaker 1: I put this ring on and I felt nothing.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I was like, that's literally how I feel about you
- 7:58Speaker 2: and Zoe.
- 7:59Speaker 5: You're like same.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I feel nothing. Even going to like the two times
- 8:03Speaker 1: that they did have sex, some whack ass sex scenes.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I was just like, nah, I need to see some
- 8:09Speaker 1: better strokes from the two of you. And it's not
- 8:13Speaker 1: even just because like, obviously, yeah, I am a perv.
- 8:16Speaker 1: So that's what I do want. I do want to
- 8:18Speaker 1: get that. But going into like a more, you know,
- 8:21Speaker 1: deeper narrative, like.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Even the sex scenes felt stiff. between the two of them. So, like,
- 8:28Speaker 1: that also goes to that narrative of just, like, I
- 8:30Speaker 1: don't feel anything.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:33Speaker 5: Not you saying that the sex scene felt stiffer than
- 8:36Speaker 5: his penis was.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Hey, yo.
- 8:38Speaker 5: Hey, yo.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Facts.
- 8:42Speaker 3: What, you know... Just to bring it back, like, in story, right?
- 8:46Speaker 4: Like, the whole purpose of even having sex with John
- 8:49Speaker 4: in the first place, Zoe's purpose, was because she's a Manhunter.
- 8:52Speaker 4: And they had discussed before, like, different ways that Manhunters,
- 8:56Speaker 4: or the different tactics that Manhunters use to bury themselves
- 9:00Speaker 4: within the community and get power and things of that nature. And,
- 9:04Speaker 4: of course, Anton even really spells it out for us
- 9:07Speaker 4: this episode, where Anton was like, well, you know, they
- 9:10Speaker 4: must have engaged in coitus because that is the strongest
- 9:13Speaker 4: tool that a Manhunter uses. And also what was hilarious,
- 9:17Speaker 4: a very hilarious scene as well, just that whole thing
- 9:20Speaker 4: about with Hal lying about that, oh, it's a man, right?
- 9:23Speaker 3: And he was just like, oh, that's interesting because on
- 9:25Speaker 3: this planet, like, why.
- 9:26Speaker 4: Would it, it would make more sense maybe to be
- 9:28Speaker 4: a woman, but oh, it's a man, so that means
- 9:30Speaker 4: you engaged in coitus with him too?
- 9:32Speaker 3: And here come Hal. This is, now, here's the thing,
- 9:35Speaker 3: and this is just a side note.
- 9:37Speaker 4: Hal is so damn arrogant that even in a lie
- 9:41Speaker 4: to benefit himself, he cannot admit that John is stronger
- 9:46Speaker 4: than him.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Yeah. I think the only reason why he made the lies,
- 9:51Speaker 5: because he was like, well, because whenever, because he asked
- 9:54Speaker 5: why first, and when he got the answer, it's like,
- 9:56Speaker 5: because he, the the Manhunter engages in coitus with the
- 9:59Speaker 5: alpha of the state then that's whenever John when Hal
- 10:03Speaker 5: was like well of course me too because like he
- 10:05Speaker 5: has to be.
- 10:06Speaker 3: The alpha and he's like I'm the alpha here he's
- 10:10Speaker 3: so damn damn arrogant and then like.
- 10:12Speaker 1: And not even just arrogant but I feel like For
- 10:15Speaker 1: a show that like really dials down and like to
- 10:18Speaker 1: be a Green Lantern, you have to be fearless. How,
- 10:21Speaker 1: at least while we've seen him on the show, we're
- 10:23Speaker 1: not talking about when he first got chosen, but he's
- 10:25Speaker 1: been showing nothing but fear this entire season. And I'm
- 10:29Speaker 1: just like, they gotta be leading.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Like, it would make no.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Sense to me if they're not leading to him becoming
- 10:33Speaker 1: Parallax and becoming a villain.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Oh, okay. I see this.
- 10:37Speaker 2: He's afraid of being replaced. He's afraid of getting older.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Sinestro talked about that. And he's like, oh, you're getting older.
- 10:42Speaker 1: You're getting gray. Like, He doesn't even back up his... Like,
- 10:46Speaker 1: every moment he's showing fear, even to the point in
- 10:48Speaker 1: this conversation, like, fear of, like, being... Not being the alpha. Yeah,
- 10:53Speaker 1: not being the alpha.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Like, oh, yeah, we had sex, too.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Like.
- 10:57Speaker 4: Fear of unimportance, of not being important.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Yeah, fear of irrelevancy, more or less. Irrelevancy.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Even to the point that, like, I guess it's Batman rules,
- 11:06Speaker 1: where he's like, oh, lanterns don't kill. If Zoe didn't
- 11:12Speaker 1: save him, That car exploded. Jon Stewart is dead. Like, yeah,
- 11:17Speaker 1: he's technically alive, but Jon Stewart is dead. Hal Jordan
- 11:20Speaker 1: killed him. Like, you're not telling me this man is
- 11:23Speaker 1: becoming a villain.
- 11:25Speaker 3: What are we doing?
- 11:26Speaker 2: What are we doing?
- 11:26Speaker 5: Before we get into that, I just want to also
- 11:28Speaker 5: say that the whole point where, like, Anton is telling
- 11:33Speaker 5: everything that's going on about, like, the Manhunter and, like,
- 11:36Speaker 5: he is... intrigued by the Manhunter being a man this
- 11:40Speaker 5: time because what we find out later is that that's
- 11:43Speaker 5: his former lover.
- 11:44Speaker 3: So he's like, she's.
- 11:45Speaker 5: Always been a girl. She's always done female for whenever
- 11:49Speaker 5: I was around. That's brand new information to me. Like,
- 11:52Speaker 5: so I will get there later, I'm sure. But I
- 11:55Speaker 5: just was like, that was kind of funny to find
- 11:56Speaker 5: out later. And I'm like, how kind of like stepped
- 11:59Speaker 5: in it, like right then and there, like he wasn't
- 12:01Speaker 5: really believing him. And then that was one of his
- 12:03Speaker 5: extra flags. Like, but also with the like, With the
- 12:07Speaker 5: car and John, the car was fine. And here's my
- 12:11Speaker 5: thing about movies and television and car wrecks. Like, in
- 12:16Speaker 5: real life, very rarely does a car hit something and implode. Like,
- 12:21Speaker 5: it happens, but not to the extent that we see
- 12:23Speaker 5: it out on TV. Just immediate explosion.
- 12:26Speaker 3: And so, like... So, was Hal... Did Hal really.
- 12:30Speaker 5: Like, have an extra care concern to make sure that
- 12:33Speaker 5: the car wrecks in a certain way where there's no, like,
- 12:36Speaker 5: any way that it could explode?
- 12:39Speaker 3: No, he doesn't go that far. But it wasn't like he, like...
- 12:42Speaker 3: Whenever he left.
- 12:44Speaker 5: John in the car, the car was just chilling. It
- 12:46Speaker 5: was not, like, doing any, like, gas leaks or anything crazy.
- 12:49Speaker 3: It took a minute. Right. So, like, I hear you.
- 12:52Speaker 5: Like, you're making your defense for why he's a Parallax. But, like,
- 12:56Speaker 5: he wasn't really... Like, he wasn't trying. Well, after tonight,
- 13:00Speaker 5: this shit couldn't... He might go down the Parallax route.
- 13:02Speaker 4: Now, I do want to stay on that thread a
- 13:04Speaker 4: little bit, Michael, because you have more, I think, comic
- 13:08Speaker 4: book knowledge about Green Lanterns than I do.
- 13:10Speaker 5: So, do you... Have you been aware or have you
- 13:14Speaker 5: been of the same theory?
- 13:14Speaker 4: We've been testing or Ben Amin actually been testing this
- 13:17Speaker 4: theory that like there's something to do with the yellow
- 13:20Speaker 4: lanterns here because in a lot of scenes with Zoe
- 13:23Speaker 4: and a lot of random scenes that we see a
- 13:25Speaker 4: lot of yellow and always around Zoe, there's been yellow
- 13:28Speaker 4: things all around her.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Could just be us reading too much into it. Could
- 13:30Speaker 3: be something different. to it.
- 13:32Speaker 4: And because you mentioned, you know, all this fear, you know,
- 13:35Speaker 4: I thought about the Yellow Lanterns and then, to your point,
- 13:37Speaker 4: is this leading up to Parallax? Like, is there any
- 13:40Speaker 4: connecting tissue there to the books?
- 13:42Speaker 1: I mean, I would hope so. Even just the fact
- 13:43Speaker 1: that we saw Sinestro in this. And would a Sinestro
- 13:47Speaker 1: get a Yellow Lantern? He starts the Sinestro core. And
- 13:50Speaker 1: then also.
- 13:51Speaker 2: This show isn't called Green Lantern.
- 13:53Speaker 1: It's called Lanterns.
- 13:53Speaker 5: Lanterns.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Yeah. With an S. Yeah, with an S.
- 13:57Speaker 1: There are other... Granted, I got a Green Lantern behind me,
- 13:59Speaker 1: but there are other colors in the spectrum.
- 14:02Speaker 2: So.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I would hope. Granted, this theory went out the window
- 14:06Speaker 1: because I was like, oh, Anton, we're going to find
- 14:09Speaker 1: out that's Atrocitus, who was the founder of the Red Line. Nope.
- 14:12Speaker 5: Nope.
- 14:12Speaker 2: That's not true.
- 14:14Speaker 1: That theory went out the window because it's the same
- 14:16Speaker 1: backstory of like, oh, the Manhunters destroyed my planet, destroyed
- 14:20Speaker 1: my family. I'm like, literally, that's the same backstory. But no,
- 14:24Speaker 1: Ned leads them. And Spider-Man made him, instead of Genki,
- 14:28Speaker 1: Miles' best friend.
- 14:29Speaker 2: They gave it to Peter Parker. So they just gained
- 14:31Speaker 2: some random alien identity.
- 14:32Speaker 1: The backstory, the hypothesis, but I like, especially being that
- 14:37Speaker 1: we know this is good. There's going to be another season.
- 14:39Speaker 1: They have to introduce the other emotional spectrums at some point.
- 14:43Speaker 1: And I hope this show always take place. in some, like,
- 14:46Speaker 1: rural-ass town on... Like, I want to get... I want
- 14:49Speaker 1: some space shit eventually.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Well, I think you don't have to worry about that.
- 14:52Speaker 4: The town doesn't fucking exist anymore now. Like, all these
- 14:55Speaker 4: fucking orbital strikes. Like, it's almost gone at this point. So,
- 14:58Speaker 4: I don't... I think you don't have to worry about
- 15:01Speaker 4: it being set in Rushville next year or whenever the
- 15:04Speaker 4: next season comes out. But, you know, I do think...
- 15:08Speaker 4: I do like your train of thought with the whole
- 15:11Speaker 4: Yellow Lantern and Parallax thing. I could still see that
- 15:13Speaker 4: happening potentially.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Like I said.
- 15:15Speaker 4: Hal got to be mad as hell at this point,
- 15:17Speaker 4: you know, after everything's said and done. He got the
- 15:20Speaker 4: lantern stole from him. Basically, he got the ring ripped
- 15:23Speaker 4: from him, which I told y'all he was going to
- 15:26Speaker 4: do it. I told y'all I wanted him to do it. Now,
- 15:28Speaker 4: he didn't say the line. And I don't even know
- 15:31Speaker 4: if that's still truth that if he says that he
- 15:32Speaker 4: becomes the Green Lantern. But I was saying that I
- 15:35Speaker 4: was mad that I wanted John.
- 15:36Speaker 5: To do it.
- 15:37Speaker 4: I agree with everyone, though, at the end of the day,
- 15:39Speaker 4: he's not his personality. He would just steal it. He's
- 15:41Speaker 4: so much more worthy. He's so much more overqualified for it.
- 15:45Speaker 4: Why would he just steal it off of the man's hand?
- 15:48Speaker 4: He is owed the ring per se. But at what
- 15:51Speaker 4: point do you say just take it and go, sir?
- 15:55Speaker 1: I don't want him to take it because like you
- 15:57Speaker 1: don't want to say everything that we've seen that he's
- 16:00Speaker 1: been through. Everybody's like you said, everybody's lying. Hal is lying.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Zoe's lying. The town is lying. Fucking Liana, the guardian
- 16:08Speaker 1: is lying. Like everybody's on some fuck shit. I want John,
- 16:11Speaker 1: kind of like what he did at the end of
- 16:12Speaker 1: this episode. I want him to be like, you know what?
- 16:14Speaker 2: Fuck all of y'all.
- 16:15Speaker 1: But with that said, that British accent is like, came
- 16:19Speaker 1: out again. Cause like, speak up, speak up, bro.
- 16:22Speaker 2: But even when, even when, and listen, he was like,
- 16:24Speaker 2: fuck you, bro.
- 16:26Speaker 1: I want my tea and crumpets. Like that British accent
- 16:29Speaker 1: was coming out, but I want him to just be like,
- 16:32Speaker 1: Like all my parents, all of y'all, everybody's on some bullshit.
- 16:36Speaker 2: I'm going to finally not be a robot.
- 16:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Essentially, which is what he's been doing.
- 16:41Speaker 1: He's been following dreams that everybody else has been pushing
- 16:43Speaker 1: on him and not actually following his own dreams. So
- 16:47Speaker 1: I want him to go on that journey. And then
- 16:50Speaker 1: maybe because also like considering the way this episode ended,
- 16:54Speaker 1: especially him not having the trust of the guardians and
- 16:57Speaker 1: everything like that and him giving up the ring.
- 16:59Speaker 2: It just makes me sit and wonder like.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Something drastic has to happen to like make me come
- 17:08Speaker 1: or justify him coming back to be like you know
- 17:11Speaker 1: what i changed my mind and i want this ring
- 17:13Speaker 1: again so i'm like unless we find out that like
- 17:16Speaker 1: liana was on some fuck shit she really doesn't have
- 17:18Speaker 1: the back end of the guardians she's a role guardian
- 17:20Speaker 1: and the other guardians come be like oh no john
- 17:22Speaker 1: we messed up you actually were here's the ring or.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Something yeah yeah um.
- 17:28Speaker 2: I don't see why he would want to come back
- 17:29Speaker 2: at this point.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Yeah he definitely said get somebody else to do it
- 17:33Speaker 4: at the very end of this so i i agree
- 17:37Speaker 4: i think he this is the whole hero's journey again
- 17:40Speaker 4: right like he's come to this point where he completed
- 17:43Speaker 4: the mission essentially right he delivered the manhunter he gave
- 17:46Speaker 4: everything back to everything went back to the rightful owner
- 17:49Speaker 4: the guardian right but then now what what do we
- 17:52Speaker 4: do now how do we move forward do we move
- 17:53Speaker 4: forward and kind of what you said earlier but like
- 17:56Speaker 4: where is it gonna go from here because if the
- 17:59Speaker 4: mission is completed and there's no more orders there's no.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Nothing and He essentially was just like, fuck this shit.
- 18:04Speaker 5: I don't want it anymore.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Then what's his purpose at this point?
- 18:07Speaker 1: Yeah. Because also, even with that, it goes to the
- 18:09Speaker 1: scandal thing with Papa Pope. You got to work twice
- 18:12Speaker 1: as hard. It seemed like with John, every time he
- 18:16Speaker 1: meets a standard, the goalposts always move. And it happens
- 18:19Speaker 1: to be moving when a Black man happens to get there.
- 18:22Speaker 1: When he's getting the ring, now all of a sudden
- 18:24Speaker 1: they're doing interview processes where they never had to do
- 18:27Speaker 1: that before. Also, instead of them giving him the ring,
- 18:31Speaker 1: now he has to take it from another land.
- 18:33Speaker 2: The goalposts are always.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Like he's not being trained in a proper way.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Like it's always something.
- 18:43Speaker 5: Yeah. I mean, statistically, I love to bring up a statistic,
- 18:46Speaker 5: but that has been something that has been noted is that,
- 18:49Speaker 5: but this is specifically I saw for a black woman,
- 18:52Speaker 5: but it applies to other, other black folks.
- 18:56Speaker 3: But how that is the thing.
- 18:58Speaker 5: Like whenever a black woman achieves something, they change everything.
- 19:03Speaker 5: Like they talk about this in sports, like a Misty
- 19:07Speaker 5: Copeland can happen again because they changed the like aspects
- 19:10Speaker 5: of like how she's able to make it through.
- 19:12Speaker 2: I mean, look what happened with Beyonce. She won Best
- 19:13Speaker 2: Country Album. They changed the rules.
- 19:17Speaker 5: Every time.
- 19:18Speaker 4: To that point, they changed the rules, changed it, they
- 19:21Speaker 4: split it into Best, what, Regular Country Album and Best
- 19:23Speaker 4: Contemporary Country.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Regular Country and Contemporary Country.
- 19:26Speaker 3: And they come to find out.
- 19:27Speaker 2: And then retroactively.
- 19:28Speaker 4: They retroactively deleting it so that she didn't win the
- 19:31Speaker 4: Country Album.
- 19:31Speaker 3: But she can't.
- 19:32Speaker 1: She already did it.
- 19:33Speaker 3: So, like, you can't do that.
- 19:34Speaker 5: Like, it's... So, I hear you.
- 19:36Speaker 2: I see.
- 19:37Speaker 3: I vibe with all of that. I think that has
- 19:40Speaker 3: been one of my.
- 19:42Speaker 5: My areas of why I've been looking sideways at the
- 19:45Speaker 5: Guardian this whole time. And I think I love like,
- 19:48Speaker 5: we were giving her theories of, like, why she might
- 19:50Speaker 5: be more, like, maybe she's multiple different things.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Like, maybe she's also the Manhunter.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't trust that bitch. I don't trust that bitch.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Who knows?
- 19:57Speaker 5: I don't trust her. I think, but before I, I mean,
- 20:01Speaker 5: maybe we'll get back there, because I do want to
- 20:03Speaker 5: talk about, like, early on in the episode, because I'm
- 20:07Speaker 5: trying to marry the fact of, like, why did we
- 20:10Speaker 5: get what we got last episode and episode four to here?
- 20:15Speaker 5: So why did we see Zoe die and it's not
- 20:19Speaker 5: a lot.
- 20:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:20Speaker 5: Like who was that for? Was that for how? Because
- 20:23Speaker 5: John didn't think she was dead. The Macon knew she
- 20:28Speaker 5: was alive. So who actually was the satellite show? And
- 20:32Speaker 5: then the, the whole, like, what is that? Slaughterhouse-Four.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Like, why did they do that? And was it because
- 20:41Speaker 3: she was trying to, like.
- 20:43Speaker 5: Possibly delay the Guardians? Like, what was the reason behind
- 20:47Speaker 5: all of that?
- 20:48Speaker 4: I'm going to say one of the one things was
- 20:50Speaker 4: because they wanted you to see that we have space
- 20:54Speaker 4: lasers that could.
- 20:54Speaker 5: Blow you the fuck up.
- 20:55Speaker 4: I think they, just from a cool factor, they wanted
- 20:57Speaker 4: to show you that shit and to show you, hey,
- 20:59Speaker 4: we're going to use this fucking weapon prolifically At some point,
- 21:03Speaker 4: and prolifically at some point, meant the next episode.
- 21:06Speaker 3: When you say.
- 21:06Speaker 5: You, do you mean the audience or the viewer? The audience,
- 21:11Speaker 5: the viewer.
- 21:12Speaker 3: I think it was just a way to be like,
- 21:14Speaker 3: hey guys, guess what? We're going to use this cool
- 21:16Speaker 3: shit in just five seconds, right? Cool technology, bro.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Hey, it was to have a shock factor for the audience.
- 21:20Speaker 2: You were like, oh shit!
- 21:21Speaker 4: It was supposed to be a shock factor. If anything,
- 21:24Speaker 4: I think that was the main thing.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Narratively... Probably didn't even matter, right?
- 21:29Speaker 4: Because if she didn't get blown up, like, I don't
- 21:31Speaker 4: think it would have changed anything. We still wouldn't have
- 21:33Speaker 4: cared about the relationship.
- 21:34Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Well, I think narratively, because remember also what happened at
- 21:37Speaker 1: the end of the episode. The lies.
- 21:39Speaker 2: They went to that Hector Hammond guy.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Yeah. He was pretending to be the Manhunter. And he
- 21:44Speaker 1: was basically like, look, this is what I can do.
- 21:46Speaker 1: And I did this to somebody you care about. Now
- 21:50Speaker 1: you see the power that I got. I want you
- 21:52Speaker 1: to leave. leave this place. Otherwise, I'm going to do
- 21:55Speaker 1: it to your family. I got this. And now you
- 21:59Speaker 1: already saw that I can do it. Now I got
- 22:01Speaker 1: the laser on your house. Leave. Otherwise, I'm going to
- 22:04Speaker 1: use it.
- 22:05Speaker 2: But Hal Jordan realized that the guy was bluffing.
- 22:07Speaker 5: Yeah. So it was like a last ditch.
- 22:09Speaker 3: So you're right. Get Hal out of town. Or get John.
- 22:13Speaker 2: To get, yeah, to get them out of town.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Yeah. So you're right.
- 22:17Speaker 4: That was a narrative connection, but it didn't work.
- 22:21Speaker 5: And then what? Like, right?
- 22:22Speaker 3: I'm, I don't know. I mean, maybe it wasn't strong enough,
- 22:26Speaker 3: but it was something there. I agree with Michael.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Remember, she was shocked when she was like, oh, you
- 22:29Speaker 2: know what I am.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Like, you know the truth when she was talking to John. Mm-hmm.
- 22:35Speaker 5: Let's talk about Zoe a little bit more, actually, because
- 22:38Speaker 5: I think starting the episode with us... Because we know
- 22:41Speaker 5: that she has built connections with people in the town
- 22:45Speaker 5: for her to be able to be in the town
- 22:47Speaker 5: the way she is. And when I say the way
- 22:50Speaker 5: she is, let's get into her crucible person of color
- 22:53Speaker 5: moment at some point, too, right?
- 22:54Speaker 3: Because that.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Um but the.
- 22:59Speaker 5: Fact that she is this she presents as a southeast
- 23:02Speaker 5: asian woman in a very white town and like this
- 23:07Speaker 5: white woman comes into the diner with these two men
- 23:11Speaker 5: on her tail and she just sits there and dispatches
- 23:14Speaker 5: them breaks one guy's neck the black guy conveniently his
- 23:17Speaker 5: neck first why.
- 23:18Speaker 3: The black Why he got into one?
- 23:20Speaker 1: Why him?
- 23:21Speaker 5: The horror trope, once again.
- 23:25Speaker 3: And then she ends blatantly in the diner. There's other
- 23:28Speaker 3: people there. There's workers there.
- 23:29Speaker 2: People are in there.
- 23:31Speaker 3: And she just does it offhand and whatever.
- 23:33Speaker 5: I know that this whole establishing scene and everything is
- 23:37Speaker 5: just for us to realize how deep her relationship is
- 23:40Speaker 5: with possibly almost every family in this community.
- 23:43Speaker 3: It's that she is.
- 23:45Speaker 5: providing a safe haven for them because they're providing a
- 23:47Speaker 5: safe haven for her and that is a sense of
- 23:50Speaker 5: loyalty that is not something that she can just get
- 23:53Speaker 5: like anywhere she actually built that out for them but
- 23:57Speaker 5: it's so to see how that all crumbles down talking
- 24:01Speaker 5: about the space laser of it all like she just
- 24:03Speaker 5: like even though she built and established relationships with people,
- 24:05Speaker 5: it's basically like, and you're going to be a red shirt.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Are you ready to be a red shirt? Right, right.
- 24:10Speaker 3: But I mean, that's kind of the point, right?
- 24:11Speaker 4: Like, they embed themselves within the community so that the
- 24:15Speaker 4: whole community is.
- 24:16Speaker 5: A red shirt.
- 24:16Speaker 4: Like, the whole community is, you can sacrifice them. And
- 24:19Speaker 4: that's kind of the, that's even what she said. I
- 24:20Speaker 4: need to know that for her to trust people, she
- 24:23Speaker 4: needs to know that they are willing to sacrifice a
- 24:24Speaker 4: piece of themselves.
- 24:25Speaker 2: How far are you willing to go? Yeah, that's why
- 24:26Speaker 2: even though she knew she could grow that woman's finger,
- 24:28Speaker 2: but she didn't need to do that. She knew to
- 24:30Speaker 2: do that.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Yeah, she could have cloned a finger, made another finger,
- 24:33Speaker 1: but she wanted to know how far are you willing
- 24:35Speaker 1: to sacrifice for me?
- 24:37Speaker 5: Yeah and but for your life like she's using you
- 24:40Speaker 5: want to live right okay well the sacrifice how much
- 24:43Speaker 5: would you sacrifice your life yeah like how much would you.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Go because even that conversation and and also i'll go
- 24:47Speaker 1: back to like the chemistry conversation i felt more chemistry
- 24:49Speaker 1: between zoe and will than i do between john because
- 24:52Speaker 1: like that conversation when she was speaking.
- 24:53Speaker 2: She's like speak to me in my language tell me
- 24:56Speaker 2: you tell me you love me.
- 24:58Speaker 1: And i felt that even when he was like thank
- 24:59Speaker 1: you for the time like thank you for the time
- 25:01Speaker 1: that i did because he's supposed to die.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Anyway, he knew the cancer because.
- 25:05Speaker 1: He had cancer. But he gave him she gave him years, 10,
- 25:09Speaker 1: 10 plus years.
- 25:10Speaker 3: And so he had to be alpha of a territory.
- 25:12Speaker 2: I got the alpha of a territory.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Got that. I have all these guns and, you know,
- 25:15Speaker 1: put on his standard typical white man, xenophobic white man
- 25:19Speaker 1: thing on.
- 25:19Speaker 2: So, like, he feels like he owes money.
- 25:23Speaker 5: All of them do.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:24Speaker 1: All of them. Like the whole town, the fact that
- 25:25Speaker 1: there's nobody in that hospital, that means she's preventing.
- 25:28Speaker 5: People from getting sick.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Like she has like Ozempic in her blood. Like nobody
- 25:33Speaker 1: overweight in that town.
- 25:36Speaker 3: I'm like, is this True Blood? Did I just stumble
- 25:38Speaker 3: into True Blood? It gave True Blood vibes, right?
- 25:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:41Speaker 4: It gave Come Live Forever with me and, you know,
- 25:43Speaker 4: Frolicking Forever and Infinity. Just to touch on something you said, Portia,
- 25:49Speaker 4: like that scene of her, you know, unfortunately killing the
- 25:52Speaker 4: black man first and all the other stuff.
- 25:54Speaker 3: It was also to express and display her power. The
- 25:56Speaker 3: level of.
- 25:58Speaker 4: Not just power, but the level of dominance she has
- 26:01Speaker 4: over anybody or could have over anybody.
- 26:03Speaker 2: She snapped his neck like.
- 26:05Speaker 1: She was like this. She got super strength. She ain't struggling.
- 26:08Speaker 1: It was just like... It was immediate.
- 26:10Speaker 4: And yes, there's always the thing about humans are one
- 26:13Speaker 4: of the most weakest creatures anyway.
- 26:15Speaker 3: We're not made of.
- 26:16Speaker 4: Nothing, but still just the ability to just walk in
- 26:19Speaker 4: there and just do what you need to do and
- 26:21Speaker 4: sidestep everything.
- 26:23Speaker 3: I think that speaks largely to.
- 26:26Speaker 4: how dominant she has been both.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:28Speaker 3: She may have saved the nigga's life, but also there's
- 26:31Speaker 3: a healthy level of fear. Like, okay.
- 26:33Speaker 4: You know, she didn't directly save my life. I don't
- 26:35Speaker 4: want to be that person over there with the head
- 26:37Speaker 4: up to the side.
- 26:38Speaker 3: I understand.
- 26:38Speaker 4: So I'm going to do what I need to do
- 26:40Speaker 4: to remain alive. And if I end up having to
- 26:43Speaker 4: owe her a favor, Oh, well, but Hey, me being
- 26:45Speaker 4: alive matters.
- 26:46Speaker 5: Right.
- 26:46Speaker 4: So I think that's one of the other major reasons
- 26:48Speaker 4: why they showed you that scene.
- 26:51Speaker 1: But also the thing that I find very interesting, and
- 26:53Speaker 1: I don't know if this, I'm pretty sure it's attention.
- 26:54Speaker 1: I feel like the writers, especially the, like the writing
- 26:57Speaker 1: is so smart in this show, especially when it comes to,
- 26:59Speaker 1: you know, juxtapositions of race and conversations around it. I
- 27:03Speaker 1: find it interesting that like you have the Manhunter who's
- 27:07Speaker 1: supposed to be the villain. She made herself a person
- 27:10Speaker 1: of color. Because you talked about how, you know, in
- 27:13Speaker 1: order to really understand an infiltrated society, you have to
- 27:16Speaker 1: come from a level of adversity, things like that. And
- 27:18Speaker 1: I really liked that they had that conversation. But then
- 27:20Speaker 1: you have this guardian who's supposed to understand a society
- 27:23Speaker 1: to be able to choose who's going to be Green
- 27:26Speaker 1: Lanterns and things like that. But she chooses to make
- 27:29Speaker 1: herself a white woman hmm now you're getting somewhere I
- 27:35Speaker 1: feel like that's very interesting that they decided to do
- 27:40Speaker 1: that and also like even when she had that conversation
- 27:43Speaker 1: like from an outside perspective I get they cast her
- 27:45Speaker 1: because she auditioned porno porno John Latham she auditioned they
- 27:48Speaker 1: liked her they cast her in the role but when
- 27:50Speaker 1: she was just like I wanted to come from like
- 27:52Speaker 1: adversity and things like that. So I made myself a
- 27:54Speaker 1: person of color. I was like, if you were really
- 27:55Speaker 1: about that, like you probably would have made yourself a
- 27:56Speaker 1: black woman. Cause if you really want to talk about
- 27:58Speaker 1: people that get treated, like, you know, treated the worst.
- 28:01Speaker 5: You didn't listen to Malcolm X and it shows, nor
- 28:03Speaker 5: did you listen to Beyonce's.
- 28:06Speaker 2: You would have been, you would have been a black woman.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Like if a black woman walks into fucking Rushville, Nebraska,
- 28:12Speaker 1: be treated worse than a South Asian woman. So, but,
- 28:16Speaker 1: but even still, I was just like, that's, that's cause like,
- 28:18Speaker 1: even like you think about, There will be no jazz,
- 28:22Speaker 1: no American music if we didn't go through Jim.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Crow, slavery, all of that stuff. No culture, no slang terminology.
- 28:28Speaker 1: The Gen Z speak that they saw, which is really
- 28:32Speaker 1: just Black slang or Black queer slang that they.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Took from ballroom culture, all of that stuff.
- 28:37Speaker 1: That all came from us and came from the improvisation,
- 28:39Speaker 1: the fact that we had to create this just to survive.
- 28:44Speaker 3: I want to continue to unpack that. Go ahead. Did
- 28:46Speaker 3: you have something?
- 28:47Speaker 1: I'm just saying, because people try to pretend like slavery,
- 28:50Speaker 1: Jim Crow, all of that stuff was so long ago.
- 28:53Speaker 1: It really wasn't.
- 28:53Speaker 2: There are people alive today.
- 28:55Speaker 1: People in Congress.
- 28:57Speaker 3: My own parents.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Half of Congress that didn't... Dick Van Dyke is 100-something
- 29:03Speaker 1: years old, still alive today.
- 29:06Speaker 2: It was not that long ago. And the fact that.
- 29:12Speaker 5: That made us really still alive.
- 29:14Speaker 1: The fact that we are where we are today is
- 29:16Speaker 1: black regret. I'm not saying we got over the racism,
- 29:19Speaker 1: things like that. But the world is very different from
- 29:23Speaker 1: 1920 to today. And the fact that we made that
- 29:27Speaker 1: happen in such a short amount of time, it just
- 29:30Speaker 1: goes to show the level of resiliency, strength, and power
- 29:33Speaker 1: that we just have as a people.
- 29:36Speaker 4: That was such a random poll. He said, Dick Van Dyke,
- 29:37Speaker 4: that man really is 100 years old and really is.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Still alive.
- 29:40Speaker 2: He's still alive.
- 29:41Speaker 3: Still kicking. Still kicking.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Harvard Eden is like 96. Ajay Majeeda, yes, master.
- 29:49Speaker 4: But I did want to want to continue to unpack
- 29:52Speaker 4: that piece about Zoe and that connection that you just
- 29:55Speaker 4: said just about the fact that she chose and said
- 29:57Speaker 4: what she said she deliberately chose that form.
- 30:01Speaker 3: And her words were more.
- 30:02Speaker 4: She was talking about coming into a place as an
- 30:04Speaker 4: outsider makes it easier for you to conquer it. Right.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Yes. And I don't know. it's clear like an alien
- 30:13Speaker 3: made this decision. Like it just, does that make sense?
- 30:16Speaker 1: Southeast.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Cause like, you wouldn't say that. It's like, but.
- 30:19Speaker 5: Also like to, to use the word conquer, like, no,
- 30:24Speaker 5: just like it. We have spoken about, um, Liana having
- 30:27Speaker 5: chosen the white form to be here on earth. Like
- 30:32Speaker 5: that was deliberate choice. So is the idea that she's
- 30:39Speaker 5: on female form. She's using coitus to engage with the alpha.
- 30:44Speaker 5: The alpha that she chooses is a white man.
- 30:47Speaker 3: And she said why?
- 30:48Speaker 4: Because she enjoys the comfort of being under that type
- 30:52Speaker 4: of protection, right?
- 30:53Speaker 5: Of being in that type of world. She's decided. But
- 30:57Speaker 5: that's where this puzzle just don't click. Because the math,
- 31:01Speaker 5: if you're saying you're going to conquer, you're poised to conquer...
- 31:05Speaker 5: If you are an outsider, that's, it seems very like
- 31:10Speaker 5: alien describing why aliens are better poised to do things
- 31:15Speaker 5: than humans are.
- 31:17Speaker 2: Then it is.
- 31:18Speaker 3: Oh, like she was just.
- 31:20Speaker 5: Trying to make that connection with the John and felt
- 31:24Speaker 5: because where, where did she actually see people of color? Yeah.
- 31:29Speaker 5: conquering whose energy is conqueror like within their own societies
- 31:35Speaker 5: perhaps like there's like battles and like that's like civil
- 31:39Speaker 5: wars and stuff like that like that's conquering if you
- 31:42Speaker 5: want to call it that but it's really just mostly
- 31:44Speaker 5: genocide most of the time but like that's just I
- 31:47Speaker 5: don't know I feel like she was using that in
- 31:49Speaker 5: some ways I think she used outsider she used adversity
- 31:52Speaker 5: she used injustice she used obstacles but the thing that
- 31:56Speaker 5: really stuck to my mind was the idea of calling
- 32:00Speaker 5: the experience of being an outsider and facing the adversity
- 32:04Speaker 5: and injustice and the obstacles being the crucible that forges
- 32:09Speaker 5: us into people who become, I was like, this is
- 32:13Speaker 5: like struggle Olympics decision making where you're just like, well,
- 32:18Speaker 5: we go through the struggle.
- 32:19Speaker 3: We're starving artists. We do what we got to do.
- 32:21Speaker 5: And we make the thing that much better because we
- 32:24Speaker 5: went through the struggle and that's why it all means
- 32:26Speaker 5: something because we struggled and we did it. And it's like, like,
- 32:29Speaker 5: Struggle anything is never worth it. Like, people get to...
- 32:34Speaker 5: That's exactly why Liana chose the form of a white woman.
- 32:38Speaker 5: Why would she struggle to just do her work?
- 32:41Speaker 3: Like, who's trying to struggle? Who would choose to struggle? Well, listen,
- 32:45Speaker 3: it just.
- 32:45Speaker 4: It's a couple of things happening there. Like one, it
- 32:47Speaker 4: just seems like that's what man hunters do. Like they, they, they,
- 32:51Speaker 4: I don't want to say they like the struggle, but
- 32:53Speaker 4: they like the hunt.
- 32:53Speaker 5: They like the, the, it's completely different.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Not the same, but Martian man hunter. He likes to,
- 32:59Speaker 1: he takes the form of a black man.
- 33:01Speaker 3: He does. Yeah. And it's a reason why, right? Like it's, it's,
- 33:05Speaker 3: it's not at the end of the day to a
- 33:07Speaker 3: man hunter.
- 33:08Speaker 5: It's all easy mode.
- 33:09Speaker 3: They're just hiding. They're on a, they're wearing a mask.
- 33:11Speaker 4: They can, they can dead everything in any second.
- 33:13Speaker 3: That's not even an issue. is that they like to infiltrate.
- 33:17Speaker 4: And that's why I said maybe there's a level of
- 33:19Speaker 4: loving the hunt in there because, I mean, it's called
- 33:21Speaker 4: a manhunter, right? Like loving the hunt, like loving the
- 33:24Speaker 4: fact that you can do the infiltrate and the true
- 33:26Speaker 4: detective shit and all this subterfuge to get to the
- 33:30Speaker 4: end goal. Because to your point, it really could be
- 33:33Speaker 4: that easy, just become a white man and just, you know,
- 33:35Speaker 4: fuck shit up like in a day, right?
- 33:37Speaker 3: But then where's the sport in that? That could be
- 33:40Speaker 3: part of it.
- 33:41Speaker 4: I don't know for sure, but particularly in this version
- 33:44Speaker 4: of it, that could be part of it. And the
- 33:46Speaker 4: other part that I want to respond to what you
- 33:48Speaker 4: said is maybe that's why I felt kind of I
- 33:51Speaker 4: kind of sighed earlier when you guys were like, let's
- 33:53Speaker 4: talk about what Zoe said. I was just like, oh,
- 33:55Speaker 4: it felt very BIPOC. All BIPOC got to stick together.
- 33:59Speaker 4: And maybe that's also why I didn't really like their relationship.
- 34:01Speaker 3: It just felt like, well, the two dark.
- 34:03Speaker 5: Skinned niggas in the room got to get together.
- 34:04Speaker 3: Like, I don't know.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Like going back to like her killing the black man.
- 34:08Speaker 1: That's why I said this in my video. I'm like,
- 34:10Speaker 1: this is why I don't identify as a person of color.
- 34:12Speaker 1: I'm black all day.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Cause anti-blackness runs in people of color all.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Day, every day. If you really was about that life,
- 34:19Speaker 1: you would have been a black woman, but you decided not.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Cause you was like, Oh, I don't want to struggle.
- 34:22Speaker 1: I don't want to struggle that much.
- 34:24Speaker 4: I don't You know, and OK, and this is this
- 34:28Speaker 4: is I think this is this could be controversial, like
- 34:31Speaker 4: when the debates that get online from, you know, black
- 34:33Speaker 4: people particularly, but the whole and people of color, but prejudice,
- 34:36Speaker 4: injustice and fear are crucibles.
- 34:40Speaker 3: That forge your greatest self. No, please don't. Did you guys,
- 34:45Speaker 3: was y'all feeling that?
- 34:46Speaker 5: Or y'all did not feel that line at all?
- 34:48Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying.
- 34:49Speaker 5: It gave struggle. Like, oh, we go through a struggle,
- 34:52Speaker 5: but we're better for it. We're better people than white
- 34:55Speaker 5: people because we struggled and they didn't have to go
- 34:58Speaker 5: through it in a way.
- 34:59Speaker 1: In many ways, it's almost a way to try to
- 35:01Speaker 1: justify like, oh, yeah, well, you went through this, but
- 35:04Speaker 1: look what happened. It's like, well, we didn't have to
- 35:05Speaker 1: go through it's like, yeah, we, we came out on
- 35:09Speaker 1: the other end of it.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Like I said, jazz, all of this stuff wouldn't have
- 35:12Speaker 2: existed without, but like.
- 35:15Speaker 5: But here's, here's my thing. Like that's, we never had
- 35:19Speaker 5: the opportunity to see what our creativity would look like
- 35:23Speaker 5: if we did not have the struggle related to it.
- 35:25Speaker 5: So it is like, it is a justification of the
- 35:29Speaker 5: system being built to put us through struggle for us
- 35:32Speaker 5: that like, so like, calling it a crucible that tests us,
- 35:35Speaker 5: why doesn't everyone get the same crucible? Why are we
- 35:37Speaker 5: the only ones tested this way? Why me, Batman?
- 35:39Speaker 3: Like, get somebody, get everybody to do it. Put somebody
- 35:42Speaker 3: else in it. I don't, why me?
- 35:44Speaker 5: And only because I'm part of the, like, peoples who were,
- 35:48Speaker 5: has been, like, historically disenfranchised this whole time.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Like, that, that don't make sense.
- 35:54Speaker 5: Like, this is all After Effects covering, like, a nice way,
- 35:57Speaker 5: a flowery way to, like, cover up exactly what's going on.
- 36:00Speaker 5: I do like, Tatiana, you're, like, bringing in because i
- 36:04Speaker 5: did not know that component about like manhunters i've not
- 36:06Speaker 5: read the comics but like i could but i could
- 36:10Speaker 5: see that being a good um like reasoning factor behind
- 36:13Speaker 5: it all because like why else would you do it
- 36:16Speaker 5: like that is a thing to be like i'm gonna
- 36:19Speaker 5: play a game of chess at least against a baby
- 36:22Speaker 5: at least let me give myself a hard mode against
- 36:25Speaker 5: the baby.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Well, there's no comic book relevancy with regards to, like,
- 36:29Speaker 1: they're doing with the Manhunters, and this show is, like,
- 36:32Speaker 1: they're making shit up.
- 36:35Speaker 3: Okay.
- 36:36Speaker 4: Which is why I'm thinking that's what it is.
- 36:38Speaker 1: The only thing that's accurate is the Guardians created the Manhunters, but, like,
- 36:42Speaker 1: in the comics, the Manhunters are robots.
- 36:45Speaker 3: They're androids.
- 36:45Speaker 1: They're androids that they, before the Green Lantern Corps, they
- 36:49Speaker 1: created the Manhunters to... create peace and order and justice
- 36:54Speaker 1: in the galaxy. But one of the guardians, because they
- 36:57Speaker 1: were on like a power trip, put like a glitch
- 36:59Speaker 1: in the Manhunters that caused them to like basically go
- 37:03Speaker 1: evil and start to destroy shit. And so- So then
- 37:06Speaker 1: they created the Green Lantern Corps as a combatant.
- 37:10Speaker 3: So Order 66.
- 37:10Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah. Order 66.
- 37:11Speaker 3: Pretty much. Pretty much. So in the comics, they're not
- 37:15Speaker 3: organic beings.
- 37:16Speaker 5: They're just robots.
- 37:16Speaker 2: They're robots.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Yeah. They're motionless robots.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Okay.
- 37:20Speaker 4: And that does matter that they made them organic for
- 37:23Speaker 4: the show because, you know, obviously they.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Don't have the ability to like shape shift and all
- 37:27Speaker 1: that like that. All that shit is made up.
- 37:29Speaker 3: That's only the Guardians that have that ability. Or other.
- 37:31Speaker 5: Well, Bender mentioned, like, there's at least 14 other alien
- 37:34Speaker 5: species that can, like, camouflage as, like, humans in some way.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Yeah, like.
- 37:38Speaker 3: Maybe Anton's people is that, right?
- 37:40Speaker 5: Like, in the books.
- 37:41Speaker 1: I don't know. It's all made up. It's all.
- 37:44Speaker 3: And that's another thing, y'all.
- 37:45Speaker 5: It's all made up.
- 37:45Speaker 3: Like, don't tell me, like, well, it was supposed to
- 37:47Speaker 3: be this, it was supposed to be that. Girl, sit down.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Relax.
- 37:49Speaker 5: This is for TV.
- 37:50Speaker 3: This is all story.
- 37:51Speaker 5: All fictional. But.
- 37:55Speaker 3: But like I said, I.
- 37:58Speaker 4: I understand the point and the approach to that, but.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Here's the thing.
- 38:08Speaker 4: As much as they've been around and know things, that Manhunter, Liana,
- 38:11Speaker 4: and them, so on and so forth, it just still feels.
- 38:14Speaker 5: Very, very naive of you.
- 38:16Speaker 4: Like, Liana, as I mentioned before, Liana giving the diamond
- 38:20Speaker 4: to the family.
- 38:21Speaker 3: I'm like, you could have just gave them the cash, right?
- 38:23Speaker 5: But also.
- 38:24Speaker 3: If you knew so much about the world and how.
- 38:26Speaker 4: And clearly, she's expressed she didn't know much about it,
- 38:29Speaker 4: just like she didn't know race relations.
- 38:30Speaker 5: Why would she?
- 38:31Speaker 4: But then I'm also like, damn, the Manhunter's the same way,
- 38:33Speaker 4: where it's just like, you don't know much about the
- 38:35Speaker 4: world that you've been living on, so you just.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Look who created them.
- 38:38Speaker 1: And the fact that she chose to be a white
- 38:42Speaker 1: woman goes... She's like, yeah, I'm going to ingratiate myself
- 38:46Speaker 1: to this society to a certain extent, but I really
- 38:49Speaker 1: don't want to do no work trying to figure y'all out.
- 38:51Speaker 2: I don't really give a fuck about y'all humans. Y'all
- 38:53Speaker 2: humans are weak.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Even when she was just like, yeah, I see we
- 38:55Speaker 1: had a flaw in the system, how we chose whatever human,
- 38:58Speaker 1: because we never had a human before, but I really
- 39:00Speaker 1: don't give a fuck.
- 39:01Speaker 3: She's like, uh-oh, SpaghettiOs.
- 39:03Speaker 5: She's like, how's the problem, to be honest? I don't
- 39:07Speaker 5: know what else to tell you. But I also think
- 39:08Speaker 5: it's interesting because on two parts, Liana.
- 39:12Speaker 5: Like, deciding that she, like, the whole diamond thing, like,
- 39:16Speaker 5: was going to be the thing. Like, she possibly had
- 39:18Speaker 5: gone and gotten a diamond appraised as a white woman
- 39:21Speaker 5: and was like, I don't see what the problem is.
- 39:23Speaker 5: I got a decent amount of money whenever I gave
- 39:25Speaker 5: a diamond. I don't know what the problem is.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Also, not just that, but, like, from a and i'm
- 39:31Speaker 1: not an astrophysicist i'm let me say that but from
- 39:35Speaker 1: the prevalence of space diamonds are very easy to come
- 39:38Speaker 1: like there's a very easy there are planets that are
- 39:41Speaker 1: just made of diamonds there are planets that it rains
- 39:44Speaker 1: diamonds are all diamonds that are are is compressed carbon
- 39:48Speaker 1: correct like So diamonds are plentiful throughout the entire universe.
- 39:53Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure a person that has access to the
- 39:55Speaker 1: entire universe, because that diamond was huge. That shit, if
- 39:58Speaker 1: you tried to do that on Earth.
- 39:59Speaker 3: That was the Hope Diamond.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Yeah, you're probably getting hundreds of millions, if not a
- 40:03Speaker 1: billion dollars for that type of diamond. It's easy for
- 40:05Speaker 1: somebody like that to come across.
- 40:07Speaker 5: It's just confusing me sometimes.
- 40:09Speaker 4: It's like they know so much and there's so much advanced,
- 40:11Speaker 4: but then there's so much that they don't get.
- 40:12Speaker 1: As opposed to like, I feel like her getting cash
- 40:15Speaker 1: is a little, would probably be harder.
- 40:17Speaker 5: But also, is that not the white woman plight to
- 40:20Speaker 5: know a lot, but also, oh, suddenly not know enough?
- 40:23Speaker 5: I didn't know that was a problem.
- 40:26Speaker 3: My bad, guys. Please, I'm going to start crying. Please
- 40:29Speaker 3: don't make me cry. I don't want to do that.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Thankfully, we ain't seen her cry yet.
- 40:33Speaker 5: Not yet.
- 40:35Speaker 4: Um just just okay so just to bring it back
- 40:38Speaker 4: to the episode um yeah again this this whole conversation
- 40:42Speaker 4: i don't know people was really feeling it like that
- 40:45Speaker 4: but the whole prejudice injustice conversation but it's still fed
- 40:49Speaker 4: into the whole fear stuff right like the whole yellow
- 40:51Speaker 4: lantern situation again i think we still might be going
- 40:54Speaker 4: down the parallax route i don't know we'll see um
- 40:57Speaker 4: She also said to John during that scene, she said,
- 40:59Speaker 4: open your eyes, which could be a triple entendre at
- 41:01Speaker 4: that point.
- 41:02Speaker 5: Open your eyes, literally, because she was putting.
- 41:05Speaker 4: The true blood into his eyes so he could live forever.
- 41:08Speaker 3: But also.
- 41:10Speaker 4: Just the idea of, like, open your eyes to everything
- 41:13Speaker 4: that's actually happening in front of you, right? And then
- 41:16Speaker 4: even later in the episode, they play the Bon Iver song,
- 41:20Speaker 4: Things Behind Things Behind Things, where if you just listen
- 41:23Speaker 4: to the lyrics, like, very literally, it's just like, there's
- 41:26Speaker 4: something behind that, behind that, behind that. Whatever you think
- 41:30Speaker 4: you see, there's something else going on behind it. Whatever
- 41:32Speaker 4: you think you heard or whatever you were told, there's
- 41:34Speaker 4: some other.
- 41:36Speaker 3: real reality happening.
- 41:38Speaker 4: Some of the reality happening is some of the truth happening.
- 41:40Speaker 4: And as I mentioned earlier, everybody's still lying. So with
- 41:44Speaker 4: Zoe saying that this song being played, all this stuff,
- 41:47Speaker 4: what is still yet to be revealed about everybody's role
- 41:50Speaker 4: in this?
- 41:51Speaker 1: I think that little boy is a man hunter. No,
- 41:55Speaker 1: that little boy is a man. Cause like, Like I said,
- 41:59Speaker 1: we're only on episode five. We still got three episodes
- 42:02Speaker 1: to go. You talking about Zoe's son?
- 42:05Speaker 2: Yeah, Zoe's son.
- 42:06Speaker 1: That little boy's a manhunter.
- 42:07Speaker 3: I don't trust that little nigga. Why is he playing
- 42:10Speaker 3: D1 Ball as a manhunter?
- 42:11Speaker 2: I don't trust that little nigga.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Not only just that, but she was just like, remember
- 42:16Speaker 1: what I taught you, or remember the word, like, And
- 42:18Speaker 1: then also Zoe, not Zoe, but Carrie Kane, who I
- 42:23Speaker 1: definitely feel like that last name was chosen for. Like
- 42:25Speaker 1: she's connected to Batman. Cause Kane, that's Martha's maiden name
- 42:30Speaker 1: before she married. So she's, I don't think she's Batwoman
- 42:33Speaker 1: cause Batwoman is Kathy Kane. Yeah.
- 42:36Speaker 3: Kathy Kane.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Yeah. She's related to, but she's definitely related to that.
- 42:40Speaker 1: And she's from Gotham. There's definitely something going on with
- 42:43Speaker 1: her and her father and all that stuff. But yeah,
- 42:46Speaker 1: When Hal confronted her, I was like, what did she
- 42:49Speaker 1: give you? She gave me a miracle. Yeah, you can
- 42:51Speaker 1: maybe say her finger or her life back, but she
- 42:53Speaker 1: also has this kid or whatever. I'm just like, and
- 42:57Speaker 1: then the fact that she was just like, remember what
- 42:59Speaker 1: I taught you. We didn't really see her. The only
- 43:00Speaker 1: person that she gave a speech to was her husband
- 43:02Speaker 1: and then.
- 43:02Speaker 3: That little boy.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Something going on with that little boy.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Something is going on with that little boy.
- 43:07Speaker 3: So you got me having my eye on him now?
- 43:12Speaker 1: Yeah. It's giving the Macaulay Culkin good son, like, something
- 43:16Speaker 1: is going on with that boy. Granted, I'm the same
- 43:19Speaker 1: person that said Anton is atrocitous, so I could be
- 43:21Speaker 1: on some bullshit, but, like.
- 43:24Speaker 3: I could be wrong as hell, but we're all throwing theories.
- 43:27Speaker 3: So it is what it is.
- 43:29Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 43:30Speaker 5: Not on the, but on Zoe and what she's saying there.
- 43:35Speaker 5: I like, I think it's also to an extent, right? Like,
- 43:38Speaker 5: I think it's, that's the funniest thing to me. um
- 43:40Speaker 5: as someone who likes to be a critical thinker and
- 43:44Speaker 5: encourage other people to be critical thinkers and i especially
- 43:48Speaker 5: if people were like bringing in thoughts that i haven't
- 43:51Speaker 5: even like fathomed so thank you for the little boy
- 43:52Speaker 5: thing did not even fathom that right um the idea
- 43:56Speaker 5: that like she's telling him to open his eyes but
- 43:59Speaker 5: she's only want she only truly wants him to open
- 44:01Speaker 5: his eyes so far like even when we're talking about
- 44:04Speaker 5: the satellite and her like putting it on his family.
- 44:07Speaker 5: She only wants him to open so far so that
- 44:10Speaker 5: she gets able to manipulate him to move the way
- 44:12Speaker 5: she wants.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Him to move.
- 44:13Speaker 5: Right. It's all manipulation.
- 44:14Speaker 3: And she set herself on fire, too. Like, at the
- 44:17Speaker 3: end of the day, she set the strike on herself. So.
- 44:19Speaker 5: But she also, like, let him go through the... Like, he's... Like,
- 44:22Speaker 5: he's functioning through.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Like, she.
- 44:26Speaker 3: Saw me dying in a car.
- 44:28Speaker 5: She allowed me to get sustained burn wounds so she
- 44:31Speaker 5: could manipulate me, get me in this isolated and vulnerable
- 44:34Speaker 5: position for I depended on her. to not only just
- 44:38Speaker 5: like save my life but to like make me functional
- 44:41Speaker 5: again she's willing to do it if I do as
- 44:43Speaker 5: she says he's not like she and not not only
- 44:47Speaker 5: does what she says but agrees like makes a deal
- 44:49Speaker 5: with her in a bargain to do what she says
- 44:51Speaker 5: and then she's like open your eyes like she's actually
- 44:54Speaker 5: delivering the master stroke of what he's always needed to
- 44:58Speaker 5: know about the universe and all the things.
- 45:01Speaker 1: So master stroke in the bedroom hey not doing that.
- 45:07Speaker 5: And so I think for me, it's just very interesting
- 45:12Speaker 5: that she's playing her card of like.
- 45:15Speaker 3: And a lot of people do this.
- 45:16Speaker 5: There are people who feel like their power is their
- 45:21Speaker 5: aura of like, I know things and I'll share them
- 45:25Speaker 5: with you if you pay for my one class at $ 9.
- 45:29Speaker 1: 99.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Yes.
- 45:29Speaker 5: Yes. And they kind of pull you in and they
- 45:35Speaker 5: keep drawing you in.
- 45:36Speaker 3: But what they're really doing is manipulating your wallet. What
- 45:38Speaker 3: they're really doing is.
- 45:39Speaker 5: Manipulating your time and your energy and your foot. That's
- 45:42Speaker 5: what they're really doing. And I think that's what she's playing.
- 45:44Speaker 5: And I think she's confident about it because of one
- 45:49Speaker 5: john's fearlessness and like that willpower of the lantern and
- 45:53Speaker 5: like how they're like they're kind of like one track
- 45:56Speaker 5: minded she knows that uh john has been one track
- 45:59Speaker 5: minded to get the ring this whole time but also
- 46:01Speaker 5: because she's been successful in doing it over and over
- 46:04Speaker 5: and over again with so many humans before like everyone
- 46:07Speaker 5: who's in this town is a refuge and then especially
- 46:10Speaker 5: macon because I think the thing that.
- 46:12Speaker 2: And other galaxies, because she did it with.
- 46:15Speaker 5: With Anton.
- 46:16Speaker 3: Anton. He's ready to do revenge.
- 46:19Speaker 1: The only reason that they broke up is because they
- 46:21Speaker 1: couldn't make a child together.
- 46:23Speaker 5: But she also betrayed him.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Oh, and that's another reason why I think that little
- 46:26Speaker 1: boy is because he's like, oh, they tried to make
- 46:28Speaker 1: a child. I don't trust that little boy. I don't know.
- 46:31Speaker 3: That's her grandson, technically. You know, she married him.
- 46:33Speaker 5: But also two humans made him.
- 46:35Speaker 3: Yeah. So I'm like, I don't, I see why. She
- 46:38Speaker 3: put the.
- 46:39Speaker 2: True, she put the true blood in him. That little
- 46:41Speaker 2: boy got true blood in him.
- 46:43Speaker 3: We will find out. But I was gonna.
- 46:45Speaker 5: So, for me, like, the whole Macon thing, like, whenever
- 46:48Speaker 5: he's speaking the alien language with her, I think, like,
- 46:52Speaker 5: not only did he... Isn't he willing to go so
- 46:55Speaker 5: far because he gets to be the alpha male white
- 46:58Speaker 5: man that he gets to live out his extra long
- 47:01Speaker 5: life through cancer or whatever. He.
- 47:04Speaker 5: Establishes like a satellite system like whatever she sets it
- 47:09Speaker 5: up but he has access to all these high-grade foreign
- 47:13Speaker 5: like otherworldly weapons that he would never have access to
- 47:17Speaker 5: just being a human on his own and he gets
- 47:20Speaker 5: to cosplay as an alien a superior race mm-hmm And
- 47:26Speaker 5: we know how white men feel about their guns.
- 47:29Speaker 3: They love, fingers up here, your race is scrumptious.
- 47:32Speaker 1: And we know how white men feel about their guns.
- 47:35Speaker 5: And so whenever he's speaking, I feel like every component
- 47:39Speaker 5: of what the psyops she's run on him, it's all
- 47:42Speaker 5: feeding his ego. And she knows she's able to deliver
- 47:45Speaker 5: on men who are strong, will-powered men. and have big egos.
- 47:48Speaker 5: But that's what they said. She targets them into doing
- 47:51Speaker 5: exactly what she wants them to do. But it's not
- 47:53Speaker 5: simply the coitus. It's not the punani. It's actually the psyop.
- 47:57Speaker 5: She's running long-term, and she hasn't... So maybe we see
- 48:01Speaker 5: that she has a stronger chemistry with Maken, because it's
- 48:05Speaker 5: been a longer-term established relationship with Hal, she, I mean, Hal,
- 48:12Speaker 5: with John, she's not able to do that because this
- 48:15Speaker 5: is like a quick trying to get him under her
- 48:17Speaker 5: wing and manipulate him. And I feel like he would
- 48:19Speaker 5: probably need that longer term thing. So possibly we're not
- 48:22Speaker 5: supposed to see him under her spell because we're supposed
- 48:27Speaker 5: to recognize that he was never going to do it.
- 48:29Speaker 5: He was always going to make the choice that he makes.
- 48:31Speaker 5: He was always going to take her out. But so
- 48:34Speaker 5: maybe the lack of tension, the lack of chemistry was false. Intended?
- 48:38Speaker 1: Purposeful? But then I go to push back just a
- 48:41Speaker 1: little bit. But why shed the tears? Like, why are
- 48:43Speaker 1: you crying for her? Like, don't cry for.
- 48:45Speaker 3: Me, Argentina.
- 48:46Speaker 2: He's a soft boy.
- 48:47Speaker 1: I don't get it.
- 48:47Speaker 5: He's a soft boy.
- 48:48Speaker 2: I don't need it.
- 48:49Speaker 1: I don't need it.
- 48:49Speaker 2: You say he's soft.
- 48:50Speaker 5: Portia said he's soft. That's why.
- 48:52Speaker 3: He a little sentimental. You know what's fucked up?
- 48:57Speaker 4: After all that Spanglish speaking they was doing, Anton Zoey
- 49:00Speaker 4: making all that stuff.
- 49:02Speaker 3: The way Anton went out.
- 49:03Speaker 4: I thought like after all he went through, all of
- 49:07Speaker 4: the chasing down, telling his life story.
- 49:11Speaker 2: I was hella disappointed. Not even just that, but like.
- 49:13Speaker 3: Was that a cheap death? Or like, did I just Oh,
- 49:17Speaker 3: you felt that way?
- 49:18Speaker 2: No, I felt that way, too.
- 49:19Speaker 1: Like, and these aliens was talking wild shit before this episode.
- 49:25Speaker 1: How about just one of us has a bomb strong
- 49:27Speaker 1: enough to take out the whole fucking town. And meanwhile,
- 49:32Speaker 1: all three of them came. Like, four of them was
- 49:35Speaker 1: blowing up at the same time, and it barely took
- 49:37Speaker 1: out a street corner. I was like, what is this?
- 49:39Speaker 5: Like.
- 49:40Speaker 1: I feel like I had blue balls with the explosion.
- 49:43Speaker 5: I feel like you're calling everyone impotent in this episode.
- 49:46Speaker 3: You've been calling... You're saying that the grandson wasn't fathered by...
- 49:49Speaker 3: I mean.
- 49:50Speaker 5: You're saying everybody's... But for the.
- 49:51Speaker 3: Aliens, I was just like....
- 49:58Speaker 5: I was because so last week whenever tatiana brought up
- 50:01Speaker 5: the moon moving we had a side conversation and she
- 50:03Speaker 5: was like that shit and then it might be a
- 50:05Speaker 5: spaceship a spaceship and i was like well maybe it's
- 50:08Speaker 5: a spaceship it's going to be like that's going to
- 50:09Speaker 5: be what anton and them swoop down in and that's
- 50:11Speaker 5: what's going to take out the town is going to
- 50:12Speaker 5: have like so for them to so for for as
- 50:16Speaker 5: you were saying like for them to just come and
- 50:18Speaker 5: have like little blasts they're just taking out like a
- 50:20Speaker 5: couple things here and there i was just like.
- 50:22Speaker 3: Niggas are flying even even about.
- 50:25Speaker 4: Niggas is lying and and just and then i felt
- 50:28Speaker 4: bad because like after all of that like especially after
- 50:30Speaker 4: we didn't see it but we felt it what john
- 50:32Speaker 4: felt when he saw the visions of what happened to
- 50:34Speaker 4: anton's people like we know it was on genocide atrocity
- 50:38Speaker 4: levels and then just for him.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Gonna be atrocities like that was gonna be a play
- 50:41Speaker 1: but only for it to just be like a a
- 50:44Speaker 1: a small fart in the wind.
- 50:46Speaker 4: Like literally, like you just a nigga with a vendetta.
- 50:49Speaker 4: And then just for how to just sweep you up
- 50:51Speaker 4: in a fucking tornado.
- 50:52Speaker 3: And that's the end of that. Like, I was just like,
- 50:54Speaker 3: God damn, like all of that work for nothing. Was
- 50:56Speaker 3: I wrong for getting Wizard of Oz with that?
- 50:58Speaker 5: I was just like, oh, so now we're, now we're doing.
- 51:00Speaker 3: I mean, they're basically, they're not in Kansas, but they're
- 51:02Speaker 3: basically in Kansas light. So why not? I mean, probably.
- 51:06Speaker 1: Nebraska get tornadoes? I think so. I don't know.
- 51:08Speaker 5: Probably.
- 51:09Speaker 3: I mean, it's Nebraska. I mean, yeah, it's Tornado Alley.
- 51:12Speaker 4: That's funny you say that, Portia, because I always thought
- 51:14Speaker 4: that there was a lot of that, you know, wizard
- 51:16Speaker 4: behind the curtain feel for this series anyway, particularly like
- 51:20Speaker 4: with the Guardians. with the idea of what being a
- 51:23Speaker 4: Green Lantern is, specifically because of Hal and the way Hal,
- 51:26Speaker 4: Hal to me, reminded me of when you go back
- 51:29Speaker 4: behind the curtain and the wizard ain't all that. The
- 51:31Speaker 4: wizard is just sitting there, you know, jaded, old man,
- 51:35Speaker 4: that's just, you know, playing with tricks and tools, right? Yes,
- 51:38Speaker 4: HAL is much more than that, but it just gave
- 51:41Speaker 4: me those same vibes.
- 51:44Speaker 2: Speaking of Wizards, I find it crazy. Granted, I get
- 51:46Speaker 2: it's a small town.
- 51:46Speaker 1: We see there's only 1,000 people there, so I guess
- 51:48Speaker 1: statistically it could be a possibility. But considering we know
- 51:52Speaker 1: that there's metahumans in this world, nobody got horns or
- 51:56Speaker 1: whatever in this town.
- 51:58Speaker 3: It's only 1,000 people. That's what I was like.
- 51:59Speaker 1: I get it's only 1,000 people, so I get it's possible,
- 52:02Speaker 1: but they don't even reference... Cause like granted Superman isn't
- 52:07Speaker 1: like in college at this point or whatever.
- 52:08Speaker 2: He's like, but like there are other people in this universe.
- 52:12Speaker 4: Cause I'm trying to think, do they mention, I mean,
- 52:14Speaker 4: they do have metahumans in this version of the DC.
- 52:17Speaker 1: Cause like they said that metahumans have been around cause
- 52:19Speaker 1: Superman was the start of this universe. Metahumans have been
- 52:21Speaker 1: around for like 300 something years. So like, they're not surprised.
- 52:24Speaker 1: They're not surprised about a green lantern existing or whatever,
- 52:28Speaker 1: but like bring that up.
- 52:31Speaker 3: Um, Yeah, I don't know. I just felt like, damn,
- 52:35Speaker 3: all that worked for nothing. It was very unceremonious.
- 52:39Speaker 4: And I thought that was strange considering how much they
- 52:42Speaker 4: built up with this guy and all the things they put.
- 52:43Speaker 3: And then another thing, John went through all of that.
- 52:47Speaker 4: Just for that whole thing not to even matter at
- 52:50Speaker 4: the end of the day.
- 52:50Speaker 3: So I was just like, is that really what was
- 52:52Speaker 3: intended or what?
- 52:55Speaker 1: That's why I'm glad he made the decision that he
- 52:57Speaker 1: made at the end because this is the first time
- 52:59Speaker 1: that he's actually doing something for himself.
- 53:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:02Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 53:04Speaker 3: No, but he's definitely the only adult in the room,
- 53:06Speaker 3: and he's the youngest one.
- 53:07Speaker 1: Yeah, the whole push of him being a Green Lantern,
- 53:09Speaker 1: that was his parents pushing on him. Everything that he
- 53:11Speaker 1: was doing, that's Hal pushing on him. Liana's manipulating him.
- 53:17Speaker 1: Zoe's manipulating him. Even him going to art school was
- 53:19Speaker 1: not something that he actually... Granted, he wanted to do it,
- 53:22Speaker 1: but he didn't do it because he wanted to do it.
- 53:23Speaker 1: He did it because his mother forced him. Like, I
- 53:25Speaker 1: already signed up. She did say I put in your application.
- 53:28Speaker 1: I already put in the application. You got accepted.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Now go.
- 53:31Speaker 1: Like he hasn't actually done anything for himself until this episode.
- 53:38Speaker 3: Towards that.
- 53:39Speaker 4: He also said, uh, when he was giving his speech
- 53:42Speaker 4: to Liana, he was like, um, he, how probably don't
- 53:45Speaker 4: even remember why he wanted the ring in.
- 53:46Speaker 5: The first place.
- 53:47Speaker 4: He said, neither do I, but that rides along what
- 53:50Speaker 4: you were saying, Michael, I don't think he ever had
- 53:52Speaker 4: a reason to, to your point.
- 53:55Speaker 3: Everyone told him.
- 53:56Speaker 1: His reason is because my mama told me.
- 53:58Speaker 5: Right.
- 53:59Speaker 1: I want to see that conversation when he goes home
- 54:01Speaker 1: and be like, yeah, nah, that part.
- 54:03Speaker 4: Like, His parents told him, you're going to be Space
- 54:06Speaker 4: Jesus Cop, right? And told him that at a very,
- 54:09Speaker 4: very young, impressionable age. So that's all you know.
- 54:11Speaker 2: His fifth birthday.
- 54:13Speaker 3: That wasn't his.
- 54:14Speaker 4: And granted, you might, just like anyone else in this world,
- 54:17Speaker 4: you might grow to really personally want that. But it
- 54:20Speaker 4: just never felt like that was necessarily something he wanted.
- 54:23Speaker 3: Like, for example.
- 54:24Speaker 1: All he wanted was crayons.
- 54:26Speaker 5: No.
- 54:26Speaker 4: If his mom never made that deal, like, would he, like,
- 54:29Speaker 4: want to be Green Lantern? Like, if he saw Green
- 54:30Speaker 4: Lantern on TV one day as a kid, as many
- 54:32Speaker 4: of those millions of kids had did that time, would
- 54:34Speaker 4: he have wanted to go pursue that?
- 54:37Speaker 3: And, yeah, you're right. This is kind of the first
- 54:39Speaker 3: time he makes, he does something off of his own volition.
- 54:42Speaker 5: Right? Right?
- 54:43Speaker 3: You know, good, bad, or indifferent. He actually makes a
- 54:45Speaker 3: decision for himself.
- 54:48Speaker 5: The thing that stuck out to me about his speech
- 54:51Speaker 5: in that moment was two different things. One was how
- 54:56Speaker 5: He basically says that Hal betrayed everything just to keep
- 55:00Speaker 5: his ring. And John has sat here and witnessed firsthand
- 55:05Speaker 5: why it's not worth it in the first place.
- 55:08Speaker 3: He said the.
- 55:09Speaker 5: Ring broke him. And the ring broke Hal.
- 55:11Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's why he's able to reject it.
- 55:13Speaker 5: Because it's like, all the things he's gotten to we've
- 55:17Speaker 5: talked about this but like before we get this episode
- 55:19Speaker 5: like all things he's done to show that he is
- 55:22Speaker 5: worthy of having this ring and he's still being denied
- 55:25Speaker 5: being able to have like equal access to it and
- 55:28Speaker 5: then he sees everything that hal is doing just to
- 55:30Speaker 5: keep it and he's like none of the things that
- 55:33Speaker 5: are happening around me seem worth it and one of
- 55:35Speaker 5: the things that i think is not worth it that
- 55:38Speaker 5: we see in this episode is that like how um
- 55:43Speaker 5: We have to get into the how. I don't want
- 55:44Speaker 5: to talk about it. No, keep going.
- 55:46Speaker 3: Just keep going. But how.
- 55:49Speaker 5: I think it's Carrie who says to him that if
- 55:53Speaker 5: you do not leave, Zoe is prepared to take out
- 55:57Speaker 5: the whole town.
- 55:58Speaker 3: Someone tells Hal that. I think it's Carrie, but I
- 56:00Speaker 3: can't remember.
- 56:01Speaker 2: Yeah, it's Carrie.
- 56:02Speaker 5: Carrie tells him. um and he's like so be it
- 56:05Speaker 5: basically and then just like he's like i got like
- 56:08Speaker 5: the he calls he makes a call or whatever to
- 56:10Speaker 5: try to get like some backup or whatever but literally
- 56:13Speaker 5: he's just like okay and then whenever it comes to
- 56:16Speaker 5: the town actually being under the like brunt of like
- 56:19Speaker 5: zoe actually taking the laser to everybody he saves them
- 56:23Speaker 5: he's trying and like the town does not want him
- 56:25Speaker 5: there they're disgruntled them then he's saving people who don't
- 56:27Speaker 5: want to be saved by him but he's doing it
- 56:29Speaker 5: anyway so like it shows how's character but But that's
- 56:32Speaker 5: another component of, like, although Jon wasn't there to witness
- 56:38Speaker 5: that at the time, he knows, like, how his, like,
- 56:41Speaker 5: protects him.
- 56:41Speaker 3: Whenever they're fighting.
- 56:42Speaker 1: Right.
- 56:43Speaker 3: How it's protective of him, even while this is all happening.
- 56:46Speaker 3: And just, like, this is all.
- 56:47Speaker 5: Related to being the Lantern, the human Lantern, on this Earth.
- 56:52Speaker 5: And he's like, this is, it's not worth it.
- 56:54Speaker 3: Like, I think whenever he.
- 56:56Speaker 5: takes the ring and I think the moment where it
- 56:58Speaker 5: probably like all configures in his mind is he takes
- 57:02Speaker 5: the ring and then he looks over and it's an
- 57:04Speaker 5: actual living bird not a bird construct and that's like
- 57:08Speaker 5: what am I doing like you could see him kind
- 57:10Speaker 5: of the wheels turn and I was like I think
- 57:13Speaker 5: that's that was very thought like thoughtful and like gave
- 57:16Speaker 5: me a good understanding of like why he turned the
- 57:18Speaker 5: way he did but I think the other thing that
- 57:20Speaker 5: stuck with me from what he said was that like
- 57:23Speaker 5: There is a lot of mistakes and like the best
- 57:26Speaker 5: thing to do is like correct them.
- 57:29Speaker 3: Basically, like. Oh, Liana said that. You said that and
- 57:35Speaker 3: she disagreed.
- 57:36Speaker 5: But she was like, oh, yeah. He was like, y'all
- 57:40Speaker 5: made mistakes. And she was like, well, we correct them.
- 57:43Speaker 5: And I'm like, when are mistakes ever about correction? Mistakes
- 57:47Speaker 5: are for learning from, but you can't go back and
- 57:50Speaker 5: fix something that you messed up. You can't correct a mistake, necessarily.
- 57:54Speaker 5: Maybe you can edit your writing. You can correct something
- 57:56Speaker 5: that you wrote.
- 57:57Speaker 2: In their mind, they feel like they did it.
- 57:58Speaker 1: In their mind, Hal Jordan.
- 58:00Speaker 2: Because he's the first human to be a Green Lantern.
- 58:03Speaker 1: That's a mistake. That's why they want to replace him
- 58:05Speaker 1: because Hal Jordan, and it's also why they, I feel
- 58:09Speaker 1: like they want Jon Stewart because Jon Stewart is just
- 58:10Speaker 1: a robot. That's why she was asking us, what happens
- 58:13Speaker 1: if I had you to do this? How would you
- 58:14Speaker 1: feel about it? He's like, it doesn't matter how I feel.
- 58:16Speaker 1: It's an order and I'm going to do it. That's
- 58:18Speaker 1: what they want.
- 58:19Speaker 2: Hal Jordan asks questions. Why do I need to do this?
- 58:21Speaker 2: Why do I need to do that?
- 58:22Speaker 1: He's rebellious and they're like, nah we don't want anybody
- 58:27Speaker 1: to ask a question we want we want a robot
- 58:29Speaker 1: we want somebody that's just going to follow.
- 58:30Speaker 4: Orders right which we learned that that's not who john
- 58:33Speaker 4: is and he much he's much more robust than that
- 58:35Speaker 4: but it also makes me feel like they're looking at
- 58:38Speaker 4: him like a perfected manhunter like the problem with the
- 58:41Speaker 4: manhunters is that they took it too far they were
- 58:43Speaker 4: too black and white with it right whereas you got
- 58:45Speaker 4: john who says this but he's still like not fully
- 58:48Speaker 4: obedient anyway right like he there are grays in it
- 58:51Speaker 4: so it's kind of When she said about correction, that's
- 58:54Speaker 4: their correction to the whole Manhunter program. Like, at least
- 58:56Speaker 4: for Earth, anyway. That's just another thing I was thinking
- 58:59Speaker 4: of when you said it.
- 59:01Speaker 3: But that also makes me question.
- 59:02Speaker 5: Guy Gardner, then.
- 59:03Speaker 3: Is Guy Gardner a correction or to be corrected? Nigga,
- 59:06Speaker 3: I don't know. And we haven't even seen him. Like, that's...
- 59:10Speaker 3: going to. We're going to, according to the previews.
- 59:13Speaker 5: But when?
- 59:14Speaker 1: I would say yes, just based on the Superman movie.
- 59:16Speaker 1: Because remember, at first, Superman wanted his help with Baravia.
- 59:20Speaker 1: And he said, the Guardians told me I can't intervene
- 59:23Speaker 1: in human affairs. So by that, it seemed like he
- 59:26Speaker 1: was very by-the-book. but it was influenced the Superman that
- 59:30Speaker 1: made him break that.
- 59:31Speaker 2: So then I'm pretty sure there's going to be consequences
- 59:33Speaker 2: with that.
- 59:35Speaker 5: That's a possibility.
- 59:37Speaker 4: Um, when this is a point I wanted to touch on,
- 59:40Speaker 4: when John was walking out of town and he had
- 59:43Speaker 4: the lantern, he had the ring and he gets surrounded
- 59:46Speaker 4: by the white men with the guns.
- 59:48Speaker 1: I don't know. Wait, before we talk about that lantern,
- 59:50Speaker 1: we got to talk about his other lantern where he
- 59:53Speaker 1: broke out.
- 59:55Speaker 2: When he broke out the town, we saw him in
- 59:57Speaker 2: his boxers. I knew he was going to.
- 59:59Speaker 3: Go there because he can't help himself.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: I was like, it was heavy, baby.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: I wasn't even looking. I'm like, that's why I'm so confused.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: I'm like, what? That lantern. I was like, wait a minute.
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: Rewind the tape.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Rewind the tape.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: I saw I can't help myself.
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: Aaron Pierre, that's Mufasa. At the end of the day,
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: that's a subjectively beautiful man.
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: So, um, but yeah, yes, yes.
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: Just, it, this touched upon something you both had said
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: just about like, and, and you didn't say these words,
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: but y'all both made me think I was alluding to it.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: Like at the end of the day, you're still a
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: nigga because.
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: When he was walking out the town, like everything, everything
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: was said and done, whether they knew making was alive
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: or not, doesn't fucking matter.
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: He's the, and no, y'all could just say, Oh, it's
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: cause he's a land.
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: He was holding the lantern shit. Nigga, he's the only
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: one trying to walk out, mind his business, and they
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: got him with the guns. And I thought that was
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: hilariously horrible because it's just like at the end. It's
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: like first, let's just look at it for what is
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: just on the surface. This is a guy holding a lantern,
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: presumably with the ring. If you can't tell that he
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: has the ring on. Everyone on Earth knows what a
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: Green Lantern is, right? Whether you love them, hate them, whatever,
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: you know what they're capable of. But for you to
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: just draw your weapon.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: And they don't know whether it's charged or not.
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: You don't know nothing.
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: But just for you to draw the weapon, just like...
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: Would you have done that? It was how would you
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: have done that? Well, clearly they did that with how?
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: Well, not clearly.
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: They tried. They tried to kill.
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: They've been trying to kill him from Jump Street.
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: But it's just interesting to me that they do that
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: when everything's said and done.
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: Everything got blown up.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: Everybody.
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: Limbs are everywhere and y'all.
- 1:01:36Speaker 5: Still doing this.
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: Then, yes, because.
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: We're speaking so deeply about race relations on this other stuff.
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: That's the first thing I'm going to think when you
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: pull back on it. Like, he's the only Black man
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: in town trying to leave mining his goddamn business, and
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: y'all still surround him, still trying to kill this nigga.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: And that's why, like, the writing is smart. And this
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: is why, like, because sometimes, like... I'm going to just
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: say it. People are stupid. You mentioned earlier, Portia, you
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: want people to think critically. Honestly, the plot has been long.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Especially as a person that makes content on the regular,
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: people do not think critically.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: They don't like to look at subtext anymore.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: That's why even when they complain about, oh, there's so
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: much exposition in the writing. It's because if they don't
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: tell you, you don't think. It's not explicit on the
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: page or whatever. You don't like to think critically. And so, like,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: I say all that to say, like, yeah, in terms
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: of the smartness of the writing, they didn't say on
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: the page that, like, yeah, they're doing this because they're racist. Like,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: narratively speaking, yeah, they did it because the whole town
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: is fucked up because Hal Jordan, as a Green Lantern,
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: he fucked up their cushy living that they had and
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: curing all the diseases and all.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: That stuff that they had would make it. Now here
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: you have another man.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: Walking around with a lantern lantern ring and so they
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: feel threatened and then they don't know what he's gonna
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: do now that he also has the ring so yeah
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: on the surface of that that's what that moment is
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: supposed to be but when you peel it back and
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: you know how when your teacher used to say oh
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: what was the meaning behind the meaning what was the
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: that was the subtext of this.
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: Moment having this black man surrounded by nothing but white people.
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: And they got guns on him things behind things behind
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: things i told y'all that bon iver song that was
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: playing But if you say that.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: On the internet, no, why you got to bring up race?
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: It's not race. He's a Green Lantern.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: Shut the fuck up.
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: Also his skin and green so girl get out of
- 1:03:23Speaker 5: here but here's the thing for me is that like
- 1:03:26Speaker 5: they're all the people who are like ready with guns
- 1:03:29Speaker 5: those are all zoe's people right they're all zoe people
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: yeah zoe her so like you're saying like like the
- 1:03:34Speaker 5: it's not if it's not written in plain text if
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: it's not like extra position then they're like people just
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: don't get it but like they literally had the leader
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: of the people who are ready to take shots at
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: john and say that outsiders are the ones who have
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: to get entangled with the alphas. And so what is
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: that if not all these white men are alphas of
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: their community? and the outsider standing up in front of them.
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: And that was said by the same person who set
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: them off on a course with the weapons that they
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: have right now.
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: So I think.
- 1:04:07Speaker 5: It's in the subtext. It's in the pretext. The context
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: is right there. And if you don't want to pick
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: it up, you don't want to pick it up.
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: But that's your choice.
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: Like, at least say that you're making the choice to
- 1:04:17Speaker 5: not pick it up. Like, just stand deep in it. Like,
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: that's my whole point.
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: But I also think it's funny.
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: Because, like, funny in a sad way that, like, Basically,
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: and we kind of see this in a preview because
- 1:04:30Speaker 5: we see how the lawyer has been bossed up talking
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: to John.
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: But, like, Zoe has.
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: As an outsider, basically given a stockpile of highly advanced weapons.
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: Because even if the, like, alien weapons are gone, she
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: had the dusk, like, smoky stuff in the freaking watchtower.
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: Yeah, the darkness up in the tower, yeah.
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: She has, like, the satellites are still going. The slaughterhouse
- 1:04:55Speaker 5: is still going. All the lasers in, like, the black
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: holes and all that kind of stuff, that's still going.
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: The portals.
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: So, like, these white men now have the most advanced
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: weapons without any alien oversight.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: That's powerful enough to stop a green lantern the most
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: powerful weapon in the universe.
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: Yes in rushville nebraska.
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: Wow is there anything else in the episode that you
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: guys wanted to like connect to talk about um that
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: we may have missed because i thought we were just
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: yelling um So my whole thing is, this is.
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: More of a question, a nag, I don't know, but like,
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: what actually kills a Manhunter?
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: Because if.
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: An orbital strike don't, why did a shot to the
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: head do it? But I don't think that's what she actually.
- 1:05:48Speaker 5: We need to get the context.
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: We don't know if she was dead at that moment.
- 1:05:52Speaker 5: She was never dead.
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: They made it clear she did not die.
- 1:05:55Speaker 5: She's like.
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: Talking about the strike. I'm talking about the shot to
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: the head. We don't know if it just maybe took
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: her out temporarily.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: He took the heart, so you're dead.
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: Well, he took the heart out.
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: That was it.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: That was it.
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: Oh, you're saying she could have just been incapacitated on
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: the ground. Okay.
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: I guess, girl.
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: I mean, enough minutes have gone by.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: The heart coming out was the final nail.
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: Yeah, that was the final nail. I also think it was, like,
- 1:06:16Speaker 5: very once upon a time. Like, for, like, every, so,
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: because when Anton took out Macon's heart and then, like,
- 1:06:24Speaker 5: had a person beating. And it was, like, especially because.
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: Which I thought was so, that was so brutal.
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: I was like, damn.
- 1:06:29Speaker 5: That was brutal as fuck.
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: And that's what I'm saying. For you to do that
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: just for making, like, Tin Man going in the wind later.
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: I was just like, well, goddamn.
- 1:06:36Speaker 5: Like, he's ineffective and he's gullible. Like, And the fact that, like,
- 1:06:41Speaker 5: for me, so him going into Twister wasn't the primary
- 1:06:45Speaker 5: thing that took me out about him. Like, the impotence
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: of this character in the end. It was really more that, like, what?
- 1:06:55Speaker 5: That was his big showstopper? Like, he didn't have any
- 1:06:59Speaker 5: power that was any greater than any of his red
- 1:07:02Speaker 5: shirts on his team. So, like, why are you the
- 1:07:04Speaker 5: nuclear bomb?
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: I don't know. But what was you saying about the hearts?
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: Because I did like that juxtaposition of, like, the human
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: heart and then, you know, the heart turning ice or
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: whatever the hell it was.
- 1:07:14Speaker 5: So for the Anton thing, for that being, like, he
- 1:07:19Speaker 5: was trying.
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: He.
- 1:07:21Speaker 5: Always knew there was a higher possibility that he wasn't
- 1:07:25Speaker 5: actually speaking to Zoe, that he was speaking to someone
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: who was, like, portraying her. But in the context of
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: the conversation, it's, like, former love, right? his heart, they
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: shared hearts. He goes and he takes out the heart
- 1:07:40Speaker 5: of the being that ruined his heart, like with the
- 1:07:43Speaker 5: genocide and everything that happened to his people.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: And then for.
- 1:07:49Speaker 5: So we see it is John who takes out the
- 1:07:53Speaker 5: heart and she's trying, she tried to begin to make
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: him become like that kind of entanglement with her. And
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: he's the one who takes it out. And then whenever
- 1:08:01Speaker 5: he holds it, it's the true heart of the Manhunter,
- 1:08:04Speaker 5: not the false heart of the Manhunter. So her ex
- 1:08:06Speaker 5: gets the false heart.
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: Her new flame gets the actual heart. We tragedy. This
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: is so tragic.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: Sorry how jordan is queer so.
- 1:08:22Speaker 4: Shout out to justin brick gibson actually a black man
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: who wrote this episode um we had said that early
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: on there was that there are plenty of black people
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: who have been involved in this project um shout out
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: to vanessa baden kelly who was actually on our show
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: last episode so who wrote episode three so if you
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: didn't see that make sure y'all see that um before
- 1:08:40Speaker 4: we leave anything else that we need to cover or
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: even like what do you think is about to happen
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: in the next episode.
- 1:08:46Speaker 5: I just want to note that I was very happy
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: that we got to see that Hal knew John at
- 1:08:53Speaker 5: the end of it all, because whenever Hal is laying
- 1:08:56Speaker 5: there beaten up and just down, Zoe comes in with
- 1:09:02Speaker 5: a gun and she's like, where's your partner? And Hal
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: is like, my guess, I'm the distraction. And then that's
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: when Zoe realizes that her manipulation doesn't work. But Hal
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: understood better what was going on with John than Zoe did.
- 1:09:18Speaker 5: Everyone's been trying to manipulate John, including Hal.
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: But he's the one who.
- 1:09:23Speaker 5: Had the best vantage point, which kind of shows that
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: he knew the whole time that John deserved to be
- 1:09:29Speaker 5: the Green Lantern. He could see himself within John, like,
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: see how that all works out. But, like, he was
- 1:09:33Speaker 5: so wrapped up and bent on the whole replacement thing.
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: And he was paranoid about the wrong thing until the
- 1:09:40Speaker 5: very end. And so seeing that that ends up being
- 1:09:43Speaker 5: his fatal flaw in this situation. And, like, what John
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: was saying, like, it was, like, he betrayed everything, including himself,
- 1:09:52Speaker 5: just to keep it. I think that's probably going to
- 1:09:56Speaker 5: be the tone of what we're probably going to see
- 1:09:59Speaker 5: in further episodes of The Lanterns. It's like, are The
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: Lanterns betraying themselves to be part of this order? Who
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: are they actually being? And especially the fact that we're
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: going to see Guy Gardner as well. I feel like
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: we're going to see the intents of that. I also
- 1:10:17Speaker 5: think that....
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:10:21Speaker 5: Like, seeing what's been established so far, and the fact
- 1:10:26Speaker 5: that Guy Gartner shows up when John is in jail
- 1:10:29Speaker 5: and just, like, lying there imprisoned, I think. And then
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: we just, the last time we saw someone who is
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: a lantern imprisoned was, like, Sinestro. There might be some,
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: maybe we'll see a 2026 Sinestro in some form or fashion. Yeah.
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: I mean, what one thing that the end of this
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: episode really did give me is just even a stronger
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: context to the end of episode one, where you see
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: how they're frozen in the snow or frozen sitting on
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: the bleachers without the ring on. And in this, like,
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: you know, this is the first time you see him
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: like being stripped of the ring and then how long
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: I don't know if he gets it back at some
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: point if he's just from this moment on he never
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: has it again like I don't know where that leads
- 1:11:09Speaker 4: him and then also if that's the case that he
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: from this point on he doesn't have anymore that means
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: what for another 10 years like he's still hanging out
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: Rushville like like or he's coming back like what what
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: happened that's what the.
- 1:11:19Speaker 5: Thing though because so it because um John asked him
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: what's he doing here and Carrie's like he came back
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: for me hmm okay uh any thoughts on yeah so
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: that tells me yeah So he may have left, yeah.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: I definitely feel like next week's episode is going to
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: be the 2026. We're going to do the investigation of
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: how Jordan died. But I do think we're going to
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: get like a Hal Jordan backstory and then more from
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: like Hal Jordan's psyche.
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: What is he now without the ring?
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: And that loneliness because he talks about like this job
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: is long. He doesn't have anybody. That's also why part
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: of the reason why when she said he's not fearless,
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: he's just reckless because he doesn't have nothing to lose.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: He doesn't have anybody to fight for, anybody to live
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: for and everything like that. And then also like You know,
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: they brought up Abin Sur again, so like.
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and the fact that Zoe killed him or.
