0:00
[SPEAKER_01]: you're now diving into the fish team.
0:26
[SPEAKER_06]: There it is, the greatest intro with all of my new Dolphins podcasting.
0:30
[SPEAKER_06]: You are watching Fish Tank Live, presented by Van Horde Law Group, the Casabelle Design Group.
0:35
[SPEAKER_06]: I am Seth Levitt, I'm live here at the Casabelle Design Group Studios, and typically I would be joined by the man with the best hands of the podcast business.
0:43
[SPEAKER_06]: But we don't know where our object McDuffie is.
0:45
[SPEAKER_06]: We're sending a surge party out for him, Jeff Darlington, in the house from ESPN and Jeff, when you show up,
0:51
[SPEAKER_06]: You never know what might happen.
0:52
[SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
0:53
[SPEAKER_03]: You might want to check the local jail.
0:55
[SPEAKER_03]: There's no jail didn't get.
0:57
[SPEAKER_03]: Can I interrupt you for a second?
0:59
[SPEAKER_03]: That's not nothing.
1:00
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
1:01
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
1:02
[SPEAKER_03]: Nothing is going to make sure.
1:03
[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely for O.J.
1:04
[SPEAKER_03]: It's not his reputation that we're talking about.
1:06
[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
1:08
[SPEAKER_06]: I'll probably clear about that one.
1:11
[SPEAKER_06]: That's exactly right.
1:12
[SPEAKER_06]: And of course, we've got the legendary Savak.
1:15
[SPEAKER_06]: our great producer here and Chris Perkins in the house on another slow Miami Dolphins off season.
1:21
[SPEAKER_06]: So excited to talk about a lot of things.
1:24
[SPEAKER_06]: Biggest news of the day I think is that you can grant announced his retirement.
1:29
[SPEAKER_06]: We love to keep my can't remember the last time to keep played in an NFL game, but he has officially retired.
1:34
[SPEAKER_06]: So just make sure we discuss that Jeff.
1:36
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know if you have any breaking news as it relates to that.
1:40
[SPEAKER_06]: Sure don't say.
1:41
[SPEAKER_06]: Sure don't.
1:44
[SPEAKER_03]: two good, two good, maybe three years ago, yeah, yeah, great job Wikipedia page.
1:51
[SPEAKER_03]: No, I'll do respect that.
1:53
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I don't get serious.
1:54
[SPEAKER_06]: Right guests on the show and everything else.
1:56
[SPEAKER_06]: It's a good player.
1:57
[SPEAKER_06]: All all kidding aside, there is a lot to talk about here with our Miami Dolphins.
2:03
[SPEAKER_06]: One way or another, they find a way to be one of the bright shiny objects in free agency or pre-free agency or whatever you want, legal tampering or all the different things that we talk about in the national football league and I want to get in all that stuff and I know we've got only a little bit of your time tonight Jeff.
2:21
[SPEAKER_06]: But I have to ask you first and foremost, what it was like for you and Chris Perkins to be on the same night we don't expect to be.
2:29
[SPEAKER_06]: I need to know if not that crossover because it had to be legendary.
2:34
[SPEAKER_03]: It was brief, but it was a bright light because it was after years of,
2:40
[SPEAKER_03]: of just competitive, like people just crushing each other's souls, and then you had perk come in and all of a sudden it was like, you know, who can hate perk, you know, right?
2:54
[SPEAKER_03]: Right up, right up the room, and it made things a lot more amicable in the room.
3:00
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, we have some great times in those competitive days, and not to say perk doesn't compete, but, you know, it's just tough to have a bad day when perks around.
3:09
[SPEAKER_00]: And she doesn't want that there are many there are many of my ex-girlfriends that would disagree with But I appreciate it.
3:16
[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate the spirit that it was that was sick.
3:18
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
3:19
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no great time back in those days.
3:21
[SPEAKER_00]: We're in great time
3:22
[SPEAKER_06]: Many, yeah, many of those days when, you know, these were the days when Jeff Darlington was the king of beach place.
3:28
[SPEAKER_06]: And, uh, I was over, come on.
3:31
[SPEAKER_03]: I was over a blue martini with those.
3:33
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, my best, my best, which I think I heard recently shut down actually.
3:36
[SPEAKER_03]: Really?
3:37
[SPEAKER_03]: I wish I was here to confirm that, but I don't know if that's true.
3:40
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't want to, but I don't want to hurt a business if it's still open.
3:43
[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
3:44
[SPEAKER_06]: Well, if you did, if you did, if it is true or you're creating an issue that could hurt the business, maybe that'll drive people to go over there and get things out and they're going.
3:56
[SPEAKER_06]: Speaking of business, let's talk about the business of the National Football League.
3:59
[SPEAKER_06]: And I mean, I guess we start where we always seem to start and that's at the quarterback position.
4:06
[SPEAKER_06]: And you know, I think the dolphins were probably the loudest in the situation.
4:11
[SPEAKER_06]: It was inevitable.
4:12
[SPEAKER_06]: We spent a lot talking at the time talking about to earlier in the week.
4:18
[SPEAKER_06]: Chris Perkins said it was the end of the most disappointing era in Miami Dolphins football history.
4:22
[SPEAKER_06]: So, well, yeah, yeah.
4:24
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, absolutely.
4:25
[SPEAKER_06]: So, well, I want to get some feedback on that.
4:29
[SPEAKER_06]: with two of being released, two is now going to Atlanta, left-handed Atlanta, and then the Miami Dolphins was speculation throughout the entire off season, that the Dolphins, you know, it's Green Bay South now, and who knows Malik Willis better than, I guess the Dolphins in Arizona, right?
4:45
[SPEAKER_06]: They both were probably players in that.
4:47
[SPEAKER_06]: How do you have any insight as to kind of how that happened and how it happened so quickly?
4:52
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, I think, first of all, it was never going to happen.
4:55
[SPEAKER_03]: If Mulit Wilson was going to cover the type of markets, some did wonder that he would.
5:00
[SPEAKER_03]: But ultimately, I think people did look at his body of work and say, we're not able to take the type of chance that is going to be upwards of.
5:08
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, the type of contract that Baker made field sign, for instance, when you went to books, Baker had at least a body of work that gave you some understanding of what he was.
5:18
[SPEAKER_03]: But if there was one team that was going to spend anything remotely close to that, it was going to be the dolphins, which obviously was a unique circumstance because of the dead money they're taking on with two of us.
5:29
[SPEAKER_03]: So, to me, I was very interested going into the start of free agency.
5:34
[SPEAKER_03]: because if Malik didn't get the money in Miami, I don't know where he was going to get it.
5:39
[SPEAKER_03]: So that obviously makes you wonder who were the dolphins competing against.
5:43
[SPEAKER_03]: Interestingly, it came to his services.
5:46
[SPEAKER_03]: The one thing I'll say is, I'm always, you know, I'm a eternal optimist, unlike Perk.
5:52
[SPEAKER_03]: I generally look at, I always generally give the benefit of the doubt.
5:57
[SPEAKER_03]: And I do think when it comes to a head coach in a GM who came from Green Bay, and we're around him, at least they can speak to the character of the person, which is going to be an important component to building a new culture.
6:13
[SPEAKER_03]: If they couldn't speak to that, and they were just going off of a flash in the pan last season with Green Bay, I would be all over this thing.
6:21
[SPEAKER_03]: What are they doing?
6:22
[SPEAKER_03]: Why would they not just go with Quinn and see what happens?
6:28
[SPEAKER_03]: There's no reason to try to invest too much.
6:30
[SPEAKER_03]: The fact that they have that understanding, that gives me a little bit more reason to believe that this could be a good decision given the amount of money they spent on them.
6:41
[SPEAKER_03]: But I could see both, I could see you taking it either way there.
6:45
[SPEAKER_03]: I could see you also saying, what's the point?
6:47
[SPEAKER_03]: Like just just, I'm not saying tank, but take your blows because of what happened with an end figure out quarter back in a year.
6:57
[SPEAKER_06]: Purg, what are your thoughts on that?
6:59
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, I know what you feel about the two era, but what I haven't got Sam Marcuas in the chat.
7:04
[SPEAKER_06]: Jeff, well, does Travis Wingfield still wear skinny jeans when he crashes on your couch?
7:11
[SPEAKER_03]: Travis Wingfield with all due respect is never crashed.
7:17
[SPEAKER_03]: Never, he can, he can if he wants to, right, if he needs to, I don't know if I don't know if I've got a story confused.
7:26
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, a lot of, maybe actually, you know what, never mind.
7:29
[SPEAKER_03]: I probably just forgot myself.
7:34
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, we're going to let it go on.
7:36
[SPEAKER_06]: The chat is great, by the way, so Perk, we had a running thing on our old platform, or whatever reason Perk's internet, and our platform wouldn't work.
7:44
[SPEAKER_06]: And somebody just said, centrifugal force fixed Perk's internet.
7:48
[SPEAKER_06]: So we know what that's in reference to.
7:50
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know Jeff might spin something today.
7:52
[SPEAKER_03]: I can tell about you.
7:54
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't even know what this is.
7:55
[SPEAKER_03]: It's some sort of monitor, but some sort of course.
7:58
[SPEAKER_00]: There we go.
7:58
[SPEAKER_00]: go, Bailey.
8:00
[SPEAKER_00]: My signal's getting stronger.
8:01
[SPEAKER_03]: There you go.
8:03
[SPEAKER_06]: It was just stronger.
8:05
[SPEAKER_06]: It's like E.T.
8:06
[SPEAKER_06]: phone at home right now.
8:07
[SPEAKER_06]: Too good.
8:08
[SPEAKER_06]: So, Park, you just heard what Jeff had to say about that.
8:12
[SPEAKER_06]: What are your feelings on the movie, Will, is signing?
8:14
[SPEAKER_06]: What are they saying?
8:15
[SPEAKER_06]: It's like the 22nd or 23rd ranked quarterback contract in the league.
8:20
[SPEAKER_06]: Is that, you know, I don't like to get into the numbers.
8:22
[SPEAKER_06]: I know it's a lot of money for a guy who hasn't played a whole lot of ball, but where do you stand on it, Park?
8:27
[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, you know, I've written before, and I still say I wouldn't have done it.
8:32
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I, I, I, I, I, I wouldn't want it to have seen a bigger body of work from the league Willis.
8:38
[SPEAKER_00]: Haven't said that.
8:40
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not mad at, at Selen half for doing this because they do know him, they have been with him.
8:46
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a good number.
8:47
[SPEAKER_00]: And look, you know, Malette doesn't have to go out, I'll say this, I don't think they're building a system where Malette has to come in and turn in to Tom Brady or Patrick in the homes, I think they're building, I think they're building a system where he can be jailing Hertz or Sam Donald and they can be effective, meaning you have a team around him.
9:11
[SPEAKER_00]: he doesn't have to play hero ball and carry the offense, he just has to make timely plays.
9:17
[SPEAKER_00]: And if that's the situation, which I think that it is from listening to Sullivan and Hathley, I'm okay with it.
9:24
[SPEAKER_00]: I still wouldn't have done it.
9:26
[SPEAKER_00]: I still would have waited until 27 because I think the class is better.
9:30
[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm not mad at him for doing it, and I look forward to it.
9:33
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to root against Malik Willis by any stretch.
9:37
[SPEAKER_00]: He seems like a really good guy.
9:38
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to root for his downfalls, so I can say, yeah, I was right.
9:43
[SPEAKER_00]: Good luck to him.
9:43
[SPEAKER_00]: It seems like a good plan, but I wouldn't have done it.
9:46
[SPEAKER_03]: That's actually the most often, better than I expected, out of your purse.
9:51
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm probably just told us how he was the happy going on in balance.
9:55
[SPEAKER_03]: No, he's happy to go lucky when he's not talking about the dolphin.
9:57
[SPEAKER_03]: I got it.
10:01
[SPEAKER_03]: But I do sort of agree with that.
10:05
[SPEAKER_03]: But I also add this perk is that if you're
10:09
[SPEAKER_03]: If you're going to get the quarterback, you've got to get somewhat lucky in the draft.
10:13
[SPEAKER_03]: If you don't have the first overall pick, or you've got to do what some of these teams have done like the Seattle Seahawks when it came to Donald or the box when it came to Baker Mayfield, you've got to take a shot on a veteran and hope it works out.
10:27
[SPEAKER_03]: At least again, they have the body of knowledge.
10:29
[SPEAKER_03]: The only thing I'd say, like I didn't love Malik Willis at the start of his career.
10:33
[SPEAKER_03]: Like the first years, it did not feel like this was headed down a good direction.
10:38
[SPEAKER_03]: I think there's a lot of unknowns for all of us out there because if you talked to people that did have them in his first year they wouldn't be sitting here saying this feels great.
10:48
[SPEAKER_03]: But if there are any known again, it's the two people in charge in Miami who would have that understanding.
10:55
[SPEAKER_03]: So like you said, good number lower risk and potentially higher reward I guess.
11:04
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, and you know, the other thing I'll say is a lot of people were saying, well, it's a lot of money for a guy who started X amount of games or a guy who only threw 35 passes last year.
11:11
[SPEAKER_06]: How many passes?
11:13
[SPEAKER_06]: But people have to understand through a whole lot more passes in practice than he did in games.
11:18
[SPEAKER_06]: And those guys saw every one of them, people have to understand that's so much of
11:23
[SPEAKER_06]: where we've seen things go wrong, even here in Miami specifically, is not truly understanding the character of a player, not truly understanding a player's work habits, not truly understanding the way people rally around a player, and these guys at least have that information.
11:39
[SPEAKER_06]: And I know I'm just kind of echoing what you guys said, but I think that
11:44
[SPEAKER_06]: they made a decision that was um yeah they just they had information they had information that not everybody had.
11:51
[SPEAKER_03]: The only thing I'll say to that too is that they probably don't have enough information on Quinn who by the way has like I don't not saying he's the answer there's somebody who worked at Miami or maybe suggest otherwise but there was a lot of people excited about his upside too so
12:06
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I guess he's still in the mix.
12:07
[SPEAKER_03]: It's not as if he's not mixed.
12:08
[SPEAKER_03]: It's not like the cover.
12:09
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they won't.
12:10
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, let me say this about Malice.
12:13
[SPEAKER_00]: I've got a column coming out, well, maybe tomorrow depending on if I write something else.
12:19
[SPEAKER_00]: But I was researching Malice has done four seasons without being a starter, a reserve, and now he's going to be a starter.
12:28
[SPEAKER_00]: And I was looking at people that were in that situation.
12:31
[SPEAKER_00]: And you've got like,
12:33
[SPEAKER_00]: you know, Jake the loom and and Jeff Haustetler.
12:37
[SPEAKER_00]: I guess Kurt Warner is kind of in that situation.
12:40
[SPEAKER_00]: Jimmy Garoppolo in that situation.
12:42
[SPEAKER_00]: David Garard, J. Feeler, Kevin Cobb.
12:47
[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a very wide range of I don't know where most he could's going to fit in.
12:52
[SPEAKER_00]: We've got, we've got Ty Rock Taylor.
12:55
[SPEAKER_00]: So we've got guys who have had really good careers, and guys who have had so-so careers, the loam and, and, and, and, um, hot settler helped lead their teams to a super bowl.
13:06
[SPEAKER_00]: It's, I don't know where Malika's gonna fit in.
13:08
[SPEAKER_00]: So this is, you know, that four years is a long time to go as a reserve.
13:14
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what to expect from this guy.
13:17
[SPEAKER_00]: Most quarterbacks have beaten somebody out by that time.
13:20
[SPEAKER_03]: I think also, by the way, speaking for the pessimist on this, if we are to take the other side is that those guys that you mentioned like Hostetler was playing with the championship caliber team, like this team is half its cap is dead money, like it's going to be a street.
13:36
[SPEAKER_03]: I realized new hope every year starts at 0-0, but it is going to be so hard to be good.
13:44
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no matter how good Malik Willis plays.
13:47
[SPEAKER_03]: So that's when you sit there and say, it's the same reason why you could justify not bringing Mike Medanio back.
13:52
[SPEAKER_03]: Even if you were pro Medanio, you're still sitting there saying, they're going to lose this year.
13:58
[SPEAKER_03]: It's such there's so far behind that you're going to wind up firing them at the end of the year.
14:04
[SPEAKER_03]: So I think that that's sort of the question that people will have with the Malik Willis signing is,
14:10
[SPEAKER_03]: Even if he plays like decent, is he really going to look good enough based on what's around him to be able to elevate his value and his standing with the team.
14:20
[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's a great unknown right now.
14:21
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
14:22
[SPEAKER_06]: Well, and I'm glad you brought up Mike McDaniel.
14:24
[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, obviously, well, number one, he was my mid-off and said co-chair, but you were close to a certain degree with Mike McDaniel, and you were recently on the radio with two of our buddies in Joe Rose and Kim Boakamper.
14:39
[SPEAKER_06]: And you talked a lot about the McDaniel situation.
14:42
[SPEAKER_06]: You talked about
14:44
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, kind of what went right and maybe what Mike McDaniel wish is but have gone differently or if he had to do it all over again, what he would have done differently and you also had some interesting things to say in analyzing the to a McDaniel relationship and that you know, I was, um, kind of surprises the right word, but I was certainly interested to hear what you had to say there.
15:07
[SPEAKER_06]: can you talk a little bit about that because we've said the same thing like I disagree with a lot of the decisions Mike McDonald made and kind of that you know you couldn't treat you can't treat an NFL locker room like it's a silicon valley big open working space and with a ping pong table in the middle and everybody you know I I just don't think that works in an NFL locker room and he tried it and I think people let him down but at some point he should have realized that that it wasn't going to work
15:34
[SPEAKER_06]: But man, oh man, if anybody should have been kissing his ass, it was too a tongue-of-I-Loa, and you seemed to indicate that perhaps he kind of turned on him at the end there.
15:43
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, you know, whether he turned on him because he lost faith in Mike, whatever the reason, it felt to me based on everything that I know that I have trouble coming to grips with the idea of a player
16:02
[SPEAKER_03]: was put in the position to succeed, had his career, I mean, to the degree that that was the narrative of Tung of Iloa, he essentially got paid because of the situation that Mike McGangio put him in.
16:17
[SPEAKER_03]: And for me, we saw McGangio put him
16:23
[SPEAKER_03]: elevate him to reach his fullest potential.
16:26
[SPEAKER_03]: Now I understand if you're a player you're not necessarily going to say he's the reason I reached my fullest potential.
16:32
[SPEAKER_03]: You're going to say I'm the reason always my fullest potential.
16:35
[SPEAKER_03]: I got that but if there was ever an example where basically everyone on the planet would fight back against that it's this one.
16:43
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, from everything that he went through with Brian Flora's and the way McDaniel built him up, only to have toward the end very clearly to a sort of, I don't want to say turning on him, but certainly not endorsing him or or believing in him, that to me felt like, however you felt about Mike,
17:06
[SPEAKER_03]: That just rub me the wrong way toward the end of the relationship and the end of a tenure that included both with Daniel and Tua.
17:15
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, it makes a lot of sense.
17:17
[SPEAKER_06]: Now, two of goes to Atlanta and who knows what he's got left, you know?
17:21
[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, he looked like a guy.
17:23
[SPEAKER_06]: He looked like a shot prize fighter, you know, at the end of last season or, you know, we've seen running backs that go from being the prize of the league to just look like they can't play any more.
17:33
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, wait a minute, there he is.
17:36
[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, we were getting away from you.
17:37
[SPEAKER_03]: That was a big dog.
17:39
[SPEAKER_03]: What was that?
17:41
[SPEAKER_03]: What's up, Jeff?
17:42
[SPEAKER_02]: What up, man?
17:45
[SPEAKER_02]: What are you going on here, where are we heading?
17:48
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'm down at F1 right now doing my thing.
17:51
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, down the stadium.
17:53
[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of really rich people like Jeff Dunn and Chris Parker's down here.
18:00
[SPEAKER_06]: I think he called that better dealing.
18:02
[SPEAKER_06]: You did a better deal on us, is what you did.
18:04
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, you're a little more.
18:06
[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm going to tell you what, though.
18:09
[SPEAKER_02]: It ain't about me right now, man.
18:10
[SPEAKER_02]: It's about somebody else, man.
18:11
[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm going to pass this over somebody else real quick.
18:14
[SPEAKER_06]: Somebody else's over.
18:16
[SPEAKER_06]: Wow.
18:17
[SPEAKER_06]: Who is that?
18:18
[SPEAKER_06]: Who is that?
18:19
[SPEAKER_06]: Is that?
18:20
[SPEAKER_06]: Is that?
18:20
[SPEAKER_04]: Hey, that is me.
18:21
[SPEAKER_04]: That's right.
18:22
[SPEAKER_04]: Is that?
18:23
[SPEAKER_04]: What's up?
18:25
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sitting at a dark park in the park with an old gentleman.
18:31
[SPEAKER_04]: And here at the hard rock, it kind of looks kind of weird.
18:33
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, it's going to get a little strange.
18:35
[SPEAKER_03]: I said, I don't know.
18:36
[SPEAKER_06]: There was nothing weird.
18:37
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm just about it, is that?
18:38
[SPEAKER_06]: There's nothing weird.
18:39
[SPEAKER_03]: This is not the thing.
18:40
[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to the where are they now segment?
18:42
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
18:46
[SPEAKER_04]: I miss seeing you guys here and you guys we just got through uh still in with a vent here and uh and just a meet and greet and then we uh played a flag football game and we started it off with two picks six is right.
19:00
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we were a terrible at it again, but we came back and we're in that game.
19:04
[SPEAKER_02]: Hey how about this?
19:05
[SPEAKER_02]: That kicked the Philbo to win it.
19:07
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I believe it.
19:08
[SPEAKER_02]: It was on three yards the Philbo's only three yards, but it was good.
19:14
[SPEAKER_04]: I pulled my hair string and he threw a shoulder out, so that's why.
19:21
[SPEAKER_06]: So, so Zack, now I'm glad that the two of you guys are here because
19:26
[SPEAKER_03]: Jeff had a question about the blue martini bar and we know actually I think that gives it that up too back I used to I don't use that you brought that up okay we said that I was I was over the beach place back when I was covering the team which is bullshit right we both know right I mean blue martini had a little run there for a minute I would see a sure dead man you know that
19:55
[SPEAKER_06]: That was just ran out of the car.
19:57
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's an elbow room, guys.
20:00
[SPEAKER_02]: That's an elbow room, guys.
20:01
[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, that's got to be bad news.
20:04
[SPEAKER_02]: But Blue Martini definitely had a elbow run, man.
20:06
[SPEAKER_02]: It was, uh...
20:07
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, all the four loader-dable four-week, you know, when we didn't have to go to South Beach, it was incredible.
20:13
[SPEAKER_02]: And try it.
20:14
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was a deal.
20:15
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, you know, do you know, anywhere, right, Jeff?
20:17
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, exactly wasn't doing that stuff, though, man.
20:19
[SPEAKER_02]: He was, you know, you know, you know, you know, they didn't see three square meals at the facility.
20:24
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
20:25
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I mean, gone home, he was never out in the bout.
20:28
[SPEAKER_03]: He was the guy who hired, so I'll never forget that it's now everybody in the NFL as it.
20:32
[SPEAKER_03]: It was a big story when people were like, Zack Thomas has someone at his house who stretches him.
20:38
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
20:38
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm just stretching him.
20:39
[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody's like, whoa, next level.
20:41
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, well, how about the, how about the, the Hyperbaric Champion?
20:46
[SPEAKER_02]: Hyperbaric Champion.
20:48
[SPEAKER_03]: Hyperbaric Champion.
20:49
[SPEAKER_03]: How much did you pay for that?
20:50
[SPEAKER_03]: Hyperbaric Champion back then.
20:52
[SPEAKER_04]: You know, back then I think it was, uh, I think I paid about $6,000 and then I sold it to Chan and Crap for 10.
21:00
[SPEAKER_04]: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
21:21
[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I was out just in the offices and I was out all the time and we were some fools and I got smarter as the years went on.
21:32
[SPEAKER_04]: I knew my body couldn't take going out late but that was in my later years man and get a little smarter.
21:39
[SPEAKER_04]: with gay.
21:41
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not even trying to play football and I can't do it anymore.
21:43
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
21:44
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
21:45
[SPEAKER_00]: I learned that lesson too late, but have you learned it?
21:50
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
21:51
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
21:51
[SPEAKER_02]: Don't let her fool you, man.
21:54
[SPEAKER_03]: You know Zack you know Zack was the first Zack was the first person in his business who knew my name I remember walking in the locker he and I walked through the locker room and he was such a super star in the NFL And I walked through and he looks over me goes hey Jeff and I was I walked out of like holding
22:14
[SPEAKER_03]: First of all, if I could anybody knew my name, but the Zach Thomas knew my name.
22:18
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, because now the right time for us to tell them that I had to tell you that two minutes before you That's not true, man.
22:28
[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, look, I'll tell you this, Zach.
22:30
[SPEAKER_00]: Zach is one of the last players with our covered in that Southwest Conference, man.
22:33
[SPEAKER_00]: With our covered sexist when he was at sexist.
22:36
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, really?
22:36
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Darryl Farmhouse, Southwest Conference guy, but yeah.
22:39
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's how far I went back.
22:41
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, let's go and wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back and let's wait back
23:08
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
23:34
[SPEAKER_03]: He's like, I don't know, I was too drunk to know what was going on.
23:38
[SPEAKER_03]: You go with me.
23:42
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a wrecker.
23:42
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not.
23:43
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
23:44
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
23:44
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
23:45
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
23:45
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
23:46
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
23:46
[SPEAKER_03]: He came to a couple of parties with me, my fraternity, I was not to get him out of their sodium class.
23:51
[SPEAKER_03]: I did.
23:54
[SPEAKER_06]: Well, I won't tell you about that in Gainesville either though, so we won't give it that.
24:01
[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, that was great.
24:03
[SPEAKER_04]: That's good times right there.
24:05
[SPEAKER_04]: Let me tell you, man.
24:07
[SPEAKER_04]: I got to say somebody said, you know, the paper we have, we're total opposites, man.
24:13
[SPEAKER_04]: And since the beginning, we've always taken out and, you know, he made me more open-minded.
24:19
[SPEAKER_04]: I made him more close, buddy.
24:20
[SPEAKER_04]: No, sorry.
24:22
[SPEAKER_04]: It's that time of relationship, but that relationship has been so great, man.
24:26
[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm just saying that, man, not because I'm hearing it.
24:28
[SPEAKER_04]: You know, not 30 at night, but O.J.
24:31
[SPEAKER_04]: at a dark parking lot in front of you, so get a little off to the set where the garden.
24:36
[SPEAKER_04]: You know, but uh, but I really appreciate that first if we got man, and but hey, that's the reason I'm saying that so you don't tell those stories.
24:44
[SPEAKER_06]: That was.
24:46
[SPEAKER_06]: He told me.
24:47
[SPEAKER_04]: That wasn't me.
24:48
[SPEAKER_04]: I guess remember I was going about a hundred and ten all the way to Gainesville and then you switched seats with me and we were going about Oh
25:04
[SPEAKER_06]: It's an absolute truth, Jeff.
25:06
[SPEAKER_06]: We got all the way up there past seven to five.
25:09
[SPEAKER_06]: We're like three exits out and he says, let's go Seth, why don't you just get us in?
25:13
[SPEAKER_06]: You know the area better.
25:14
[SPEAKER_06]: And I don't know what, I don't know if you have that radar or what was going on.
25:17
[SPEAKER_06]: But I might have been behind the wheel for six minutes and I get pulled over for going about it.
25:21
[SPEAKER_06]: How old are you feeling?
25:23
[SPEAKER_03]: I haven't tried to try too hard to fall the rules and that's what happens.
25:27
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he won't get it right.
25:27
[SPEAKER_03]: That's right, Jeff.
25:28
[SPEAKER_03]: That was great.
25:29
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm brother.
25:30
[SPEAKER_06]: Exactly right.
25:32
[SPEAKER_06]: Well what the hell, like should you guys be in an appearance right now?
25:35
[SPEAKER_06]: What are you guys doing?
25:37
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we did that on the ass man.
25:39
[SPEAKER_02]: We took their money.
25:39
[SPEAKER_02]: We did
25:40
[SPEAKER_02]: But is that like our unit's Uber ride like the you you call a lift like what's now we parked a fish by It's over man's actually like a couple spots over massive man's up in the ride with me dog This is the slow man.
25:50
[SPEAKER_02]: We're gonna talk to these cats real quick We have my camera mil tea right now, man.
26:01
[SPEAKER_06]: What we find up for
26:02
[SPEAKER_06]: Well, we were just talking about, yeah, we were just talking about the Dolphins decisions at quarterback that's as far as we got and the way things ended here in Miami.
26:13
[SPEAKER_06]: Jeff is there a more unlikely pairing than Jim Harbaugh and Mike McDaniel.
26:21
[SPEAKER_03]: There's not a quirky appearing, I mean, that's for sure.
26:24
[SPEAKER_03]: It's, you know, it surprised me a little bit because I, you know, I really thought,
26:28
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, the bucks really wanted Mike and he would have been able to take over the offense there and probably kind of turn that into a head coaching job if things went well, you know, Mike decided that he liked what Harba was doing so much that he was okay not being the number one offense guy and believes that Harba will give me enough freedom.
26:46
[SPEAKER_03]: It was a more, it was an interesting decision.
26:50
[SPEAKER_03]: But Dan, do those, that is a quirky meeting rooms right there.
26:54
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that's the only word I can think of for that.
26:56
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, stranger pairing those two or Zack and OJ sitting in the park.
27:03
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
27:22
[SPEAKER_03]: Man, quite a few times.
27:25
[SPEAKER_03]: You never, by the way, you ever notice that you never hear defensive players say I'm an offensive player.
27:29
[SPEAKER_03]: An offensive player.
27:33
[SPEAKER_02]: That's a great point, Joe.
27:36
[SPEAKER_06]: That's a great point.
27:37
[SPEAKER_06]: Actually, I do you know when you hear it like that fake punton Houston then all the sudden Zack and it's all start pulling out tapes from their high school You know for I get You killed me.
27:49
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm a New Yardsy ran for so that's the only member those VH
27:55
[SPEAKER_06]: Good.
27:56
[SPEAKER_06]: Good.
27:57
[SPEAKER_04]: Good.
27:57
[SPEAKER_04]: Good.
27:58
[SPEAKER_04]: Good to see you all with the best.
27:59
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, man.
28:00
[SPEAKER_04]: And hey, he used to let those dogs out those, right?
28:03
[SPEAKER_04]: So the dog came out, man.
28:05
[SPEAKER_04]: I was gone.
28:06
[SPEAKER_04]: I was jumping over his wall.
28:08
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, man.
28:10
[SPEAKER_06]: Lock the gate, y'all.
28:11
[SPEAKER_06]: No, I was out and turned the lights off.
28:13
[SPEAKER_06]: Something about this.
28:14
[SPEAKER_02]: Man, right.
28:15
[SPEAKER_02]: I was not that cruel.
28:16
[SPEAKER_02]: I was not that cruel.
28:18
[SPEAKER_02]: I'mma take this, though.
28:18
[SPEAKER_02]: That also came into my house and jumped the wall when I was sitting outside, scared the shit out of me.
28:24
[SPEAKER_04]: I was driving home after, you know, eating in dinner or some in a restaurant, and I see all these cars in this house, so I knew he's doing a party, so I go.
28:41
[SPEAKER_04]: And then I would sneak over the back wall and just join the Ford.
28:45
[SPEAKER_04]: I would say, yeah, you wouldn't even invite it.
28:48
[SPEAKER_02]: I always invite it.
28:50
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
28:51
[SPEAKER_06]: Jeff's in part.
28:52
[SPEAKER_06]: These guys live six houses away from each other.
28:55
[SPEAKER_06]: Can you imagine they were too nice when they were single and playing for the Miami Dolphins live in six houses?
29:00
[SPEAKER_05]: No, no, man.
29:03
[SPEAKER_03]: I needed to pick the wrong team to cover.
29:06
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
29:07
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we were so proud to do that, right?
29:11
[SPEAKER_04]: He had fat Jordan Street and he also had a katana right next to it, a katana card It was a katana card He had a card, he had a card, he had a card Oh, wow Wow, that sounds like the start of a great anecdote, right?
29:25
[SPEAKER_06]: It was a katana card It was a katana card A 24 hour black card Kind of like fish tank live, I guess, this is what it's like That's right
29:34
[SPEAKER_02]: That's right, the party never stops, so all right, I'm gonna let that get out of your man's got to get off him Oh, yeah, I was going to call you John to be funny about it.
29:45
[SPEAKER_04]: I'll see you Chris I'll tell you later I need to I need to gather myself on this one.
30:01
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh
30:02
[SPEAKER_06]: So yeah, no doubt.
30:06
[SPEAKER_06]: Well, I mean, you threw it through a curve ball.
30:08
[SPEAKER_06]: We really have the whole chat for you.
30:11
[SPEAKER_06]: And who's the next guest, though, Jack?
30:16
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, that could be a hell of a segment.
30:20
[SPEAKER_06]: So what do we have?
30:21
[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, you talked about the
30:26
[SPEAKER_06]: What do the dolphins do from here?
30:28
[SPEAKER_06]: Because I mean, you're at a point where like you can't find enough money to keep Julian Hill, you know, like I mean, that's that's where the things are right now Yeah, that is true.
30:36
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that's true.
30:37
[SPEAKER_03]: That is where things are.
30:38
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, where you have to look for the only example you can in this is what the Denver Broncos did when they got rid of Russ and Sean Peyton was
30:48
[SPEAKER_03]: dead set on changing our culture and that happened quick.
30:53
[SPEAKER_03]: Now that was the result of drafting a quarterback in Bonax.
30:57
[SPEAKER_03]: But it didn't happen right away.
30:59
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, there was a quick transition.
31:02
[SPEAKER_03]: But that's where you kind of have to either, if you're not confident, you're going to get that quarterback in this coming draft, which it feels like next year, would be the better year.
31:12
[SPEAKER_03]: I understand the idea of taking that gamble on Malay to at least put yourself somewhat out there.
31:17
[SPEAKER_03]: But no, this is an unprecedented.
31:20
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, this is not a normal situation that the dolphins have put themselves in,
31:27
[SPEAKER_03]: kind of easy to argue against the idea of paying two of that contract when they did.
31:32
[SPEAKER_03]: There was always a chance to continue to evaluate and with that fifth year that they didn't take now they're in this situation.
31:40
[SPEAKER_03]: And unlike any team before them, even the Denver Broncos who had less dead cat money than this one, they're going to have to take their medicine.
31:48
[SPEAKER_03]: And it's going to be a rough
31:50
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, and it seems like they kind of I mean, it's it's what they've signed up for like that or this group You know exactly right then and halfly they they kind of knew that was the case and let's just rip the band Aid off and get through it and they're the type of guys too by the way from the demeanor that that I've seen from them so far that Are those sort of
32:08
[SPEAKER_03]: type of professionals who, I think that they have the type of emotional stability to be able to navigate this in a way that we'll see whether it amounts to eventual wins.
32:19
[SPEAKER_03]: But in the short term, you've got to have sort of a special disposition between your head coach and your general manager navigate what are going to be some pretty ugly waters.
32:27
[SPEAKER_03]: So at the very least,
32:30
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not saying that these guys are destined for the whole family matter what, you know, but I can't at least say they have the demeanor to handle what feels like a really tough spot to be in.
32:40
[SPEAKER_06]: That makes a lot of sense.
32:42
[SPEAKER_06]: And Perk, I know you wrote during the combine, like they kind of passed the first test, what we saw the first thing that we saw about those guys.
32:48
[SPEAKER_06]: But what I want, especially now, that we just saw Zach and OJ together, I want to know, let's get reflective here and Jeff covered this team back when these guys were playing.
33:00
[SPEAKER_06]: When you'd say this was the most disappointing era in Miami Dolphins history, the Tua era, can you expand upon that?
33:09
[SPEAKER_06]: Because I want to get some perspective from some other guys who've been around a few different areas of this franchise.
33:14
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, and look, and it's not the Tua era.
33:18
[SPEAKER_00]: It's the Greer Tua, McDaniel era, or Greer Tua, McDaniel time-read era.
33:27
[SPEAKER_00]: I brought this up before,
33:29
[SPEAKER_00]: they announced that they had told to about his release, but the operative phrase there is based on talent and expectations.
33:39
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying that this was the worst era of Dalvin's football, it was the most disappointing.
33:44
[SPEAKER_00]: You look at all the names they have from Mike McDaniel, Big Bengeo, Coliseum Campbell, Tyree Heal, Tula, Jalen Waddle, Jalen Ramsey, Coliseum, I mean, that you have Hall of Famers.
33:56
[SPEAKER_00]: You gave up resources.
33:58
[SPEAKER_00]: First round picks to get these guys.
34:00
[SPEAKER_00]: You gave big contracts.
34:02
[SPEAKER_00]: You gave contract extensions, and you didn't even win a freaking playoff game.
34:07
[SPEAKER_00]: That is disappointing.
34:10
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying that these guys are losers.
34:12
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't believe that they are.
34:13
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying that these guys are failures.
34:16
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't believe that they are, but that era was a failure.
34:21
[SPEAKER_00]: And that era was the most disappointing era of dolphin's history to me.
34:27
[SPEAKER_06]: I've been thinking, what are your thoughts, Jeff?
34:29
[SPEAKER_03]: No, I was just going to kind of piggyback on that from the standpoint that
34:34
[SPEAKER_03]: It's also, it's mostly disappointing because they showed the potential of being the best offense in the NFL.
34:42
[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
34:44
[SPEAKER_03]: And that's the the genre part of it is that there was this experiment that it was like
34:52
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, this happened on a lesser scale with a land of falcons when they had a really good thing going with Thomas to meet Trump and everybody thought they were going to be this really good team and they realized that they were too much of a finesse team and they tried to suddenly transition to becoming a tougher, bigger team and it's like
35:09
[SPEAKER_03]: If that's not just a light, like a light switch, you can just flip.
35:13
[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that that sort of happened in Miami where they started to recognize like we built this team for speed and they can do that in September in Miami, but it's a lot difficult, more difficult to be a timing oriented offense in January in Kansas City.
35:31
[SPEAKER_03]: That's where I come from the standpoint like, I'm never gonna crush Mike too much because he was so innovative and just, that doesn't necessarily, it didn't work to be that type of postseason team.
35:46
[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that, to perks point to me, that's why I do agree, that is the most disappointing thing to see so much potential have so much fun watching them put up 70 on the Broncos and ultimately see so little
36:01
[SPEAKER_00]: But you know what chap I'll say this that you know, I think that my offense got figured out in 2023
36:08
[SPEAKER_00]: And I always say that to me, the two weeks fan that best epitomizes that era was when they don't, when they beat Denver here, 70 to 20, without Jalen Waddlemine, you.
36:21
[SPEAKER_00]: He was out with a big cousin.
36:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Waddle comes back the next week.
36:25
[SPEAKER_00]: They go to Buffalo and get smoke 48 to 20.
36:28
[SPEAKER_00]: And it illustrates how they could pound bad teams and get pounded by good teams.
36:34
[SPEAKER_00]: And in 2023, they know this in these numbers.
36:38
[SPEAKER_00]: We're not out.
36:40
[SPEAKER_00]: The dolphins were one in six against playoff teams and they got out sport in those seven games by an average score of 32 to 16 That often 16 points against playoff teams in a seven game sample size and it got worse in 2024 and then worse in 2025 without Ty Reed But
36:58
[SPEAKER_03]: But that's where you bring up, you know, before you mention it, you know, it's not just to it, it's not just Mike, it's not just it like that's where all of a sudden things just went awry too because I do believe that Mike is capable of evolving he was a more run centric offensive mind when he was with Kyle in with the 49ers and that he found this love for speed and did that in Miami like I think that he even if they figured him out would have been capable of of evolving.
37:26
[SPEAKER_03]: But I would point toward Chris Brear.
37:29
[SPEAKER_03]: And this is not to exonerate Mike.
37:30
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just saying that I would point toward Chris Brear for what became roster building and draft picks that did not work out.
37:38
[SPEAKER_03]: And then I would point toward the way that two it was playing and really the offense that was minimized by potentially the injuries that work or tailing his career.
37:51
[SPEAKER_03]: So I think that it became this
37:54
[SPEAKER_03]: amazing moment, flash and pan moment where you did have all those weapons.
37:59
[SPEAKER_03]: It did look like so much potential and then all of a sudden, like a lot of things in the NFL, it starts to just snowball on the wrong direction and they just could not stop that snowball and that's the reason why
38:11
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I think Mike is still be a really good coach.
38:14
[SPEAKER_03]: I really do.
38:14
[SPEAKER_03]: I think that he could develop into becoming a good head coach.
38:18
[SPEAKER_03]: But that's also the reason why I understand why ownership decides to move on from him.
38:23
[SPEAKER_03]: Because at this point, it just felt like there is no way you were stopping that snowball if not right now by the end of next year the failure was inevitable based on what had occurred in the past year or two.
38:36
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I'll say this, I don't know, Jeff, you know, in doing a blame game thing, which I, it's not the fault of anyone person.
38:44
[SPEAKER_00]: I do say that Mike McDaniel is more at fault than anybody of those.
38:49
[SPEAKER_03]: I totally disagree.
38:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
38:51
[SPEAKER_00]: Here's why I'll say that, Jeff, because Chris Greer got you the best talent that you had in 20 years, two of us, the best quarterback that you had since Dan Moreno, so coach him up.
39:02
[SPEAKER_03]: like like he did he made him the number one quarterback in the NFL.
39:08
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but Jeff is technically he did.
39:11
[SPEAKER_00]: He had him throw the tie reef at which it's smart on likes part.
39:16
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know I think I think a whole lot of that see the other thing I've said was that offense was based on two things, tie re-kill and the threat of tie re-kill.
39:24
[SPEAKER_00]: If they'd have had the 2025 run game in 2023 they'd have been a much better team.
39:30
[SPEAKER_00]: And let me say this also.
39:31
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not putting this all on the offense, because as I said in 2023, average scores 32 to 16, what the hell are you doing to allow in 32 points per game?
39:42
[SPEAKER_00]: So they should, I want to want to do them just to build a complete team like San Francisco and Philly.
39:50
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Chris Grie's job?
39:52
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that is Chris Greer's job, but Mike McDaniel had more control, but have more say so.
40:00
[SPEAKER_00]: It was Chris McDaniel's vision, which I do fault Chris Greer for that, you're the GM, but it was every coach's vision that Chris Greer didn't have a vision.
40:10
[SPEAKER_00]: Idiot, whatever the hit coach wanted.
40:14
[SPEAKER_06]: Joe's, did you want to say something because I have some thoughts here too, and I, you know, I kind of wanted it.
40:23
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, nothing is not all about Mike's Missed something still about Mike's ability to call plays and running off it.
40:32
[SPEAKER_02]: I think Mike's downfall.
40:33
[SPEAKER_02]: It's lost a locker room You know, I agree Mike lost Mike Mike lost a locker room bro, and I think he let them try to run the asylum and they ran over it and that was a big problem I do agree.
40:49
[SPEAKER_03]: No, I think that's my
40:52
[SPEAKER_03]: But I also think that that's where if you're going to like I'll go back to saying, you know, blame across the board, but to say that Mike was more at fault than Greer or to it, like, I can't go there.
41:05
[SPEAKER_03]: And that's not just, you know, I just think that,
41:08
[SPEAKER_03]: I agree with you, but you're also as a general manager.
41:11
[SPEAKER_03]: It's your job.
41:12
[SPEAKER_03]: Literally, the title of your job is general manager.
41:16
[SPEAKER_03]: It's your job to manage that locker room and to manage that roster.
41:21
[SPEAKER_02]: And I do think it, what I've never seen to GM and that locker room.
41:29
[SPEAKER_02]: It should be a player's locker room, the palm of the dolphin's was.
41:32
[SPEAKER_02]: They had the wrong guys as their leaders at that locker room because they weren't the best examples for all the guys in that locker room.
41:39
[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
41:39
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I don't just say it, but the fact that some of the guys that were to cap this in the leaders would have do that weren't showing up or coming in late, doing the hell they wanted to do.
41:49
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's just bad leadership.
41:50
[SPEAKER_02]: That was hopefully, I mean, I guess it was voted on by the squad.
41:54
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, Chris.
41:55
[SPEAKER_02]: This is job, I want to see the quality of talent, and we ask them talent, but at the same time know, the leaders in that locker room were not the best leaders.
42:03
[SPEAKER_03]: So, that's also where I disagree, the job of the General Manager is not just to go a simple talent.
42:08
[SPEAKER_03]: It's to assemble the right guys in the right fit for a locker room.
42:13
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, going and just picking up the best players around the league and saying, go, you deal with it.
42:18
[SPEAKER_03]: You deal with Jalen Ramsey and Tyree Kill.
42:20
[SPEAKER_03]: Like,
42:21
[SPEAKER_03]: I do agree with you when it came to the leadership component of Mike, but I also think that it's not just the job of the GM isn't just to go out there poach as much talent and not look at the character of the players that are also bringing
42:35
[SPEAKER_03]: under the team.
42:37
[SPEAKER_03]: Now to that end, I will say that Mike also was supportive of bringing those guys in.
42:42
[SPEAKER_03]: But like, for instance, the idea that Mike is responsible for to his contract.
42:47
[SPEAKER_03]: To me, it is the job of the head coach to fall in love with his quarterback and vouch for him.
42:54
[SPEAKER_03]: It is the job of the general manager to decide whether that's a smart contract for them to give him.
43:01
[SPEAKER_03]: And in the case of Tua, it was not.
43:04
[SPEAKER_03]: When we talk about the most massive mistake that the team made in the past two years, to me, it was signed to a to a contract when you had a fifth year to evaluate him before you would have had to pay him exactly what you did ultimately pay him an offseason before.
43:21
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
43:22
[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, there's so many elements of everything that we're talking about.
43:26
[SPEAKER_06]: It's like everybody's a little right.
43:27
[SPEAKER_06]: Everybody I could probably push back on.
43:30
[SPEAKER_03]: No, that's the point.
43:31
[SPEAKER_03]: It's sort of a quote.
43:32
[SPEAKER_03]: That's that's kind of what I was getting before the point of getting to before is that like I like I think that it ultimately was just a
43:41
[SPEAKER_03]: by the end of comedy of errors in terms of this person with this person was not going to work.
43:47
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, if you're going to have, and I told this to coaches around the league when they were looking at Mike, if you're going to hire a coach like Mike Medenio or even Kyle Shanahan or even Sean McGay, those guys to a degree will put their, they will go into their layer on Tuesday and they won't come out till Wednesday night, like, Wednesday practice.
44:07
[SPEAKER_03]: Like,
44:08
[SPEAKER_03]: They're the kind of guys who are Brainiacs, offensive geniuses that we all love to put on a pedestal.
44:14
[SPEAKER_03]: But if you're going to have that, you've got to have a general manager who's not going to go down the hall and lock himself in the office either.
44:21
[SPEAKER_03]: Right, so, and that's the thing.
44:23
[SPEAKER_03]: It's not just, that's not placing all the blame on Chris, that's not placing all the blame on Mike.
44:28
[SPEAKER_03]: It's showing you that the combination of the two is the key to success in the NFL, and the dolphins did not have that with the combination of Mike and Daniel and Chris Grant.
44:39
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, that's fair enough, and I, you know, to me, Chris Greer's biggest failures.
44:45
[SPEAKER_06]: First of foremost, is that 2020 draft, you know, and nothing sealed that point home, more than what just happened, right?
44:54
[SPEAKER_06]: To a talk of a law is no longer the quarterback of the dolphins is getting paid $100 million, not to be the quarterback of Miami dolphins.
45:02
[SPEAKER_06]: There is one player left on the roster from that draft.
45:06
[SPEAKER_06]: And he just had his contract with his structure.
45:08
[SPEAKER_06]: He just took a pay cut, and it's awesome Jackson, and he's missed 35 games in the last four years.
45:13
[SPEAKER_06]: Like that's all that's left of a draft.
45:17
[SPEAKER_06]: that could have become like Jimmy Johnson draft where you make your team yeah contender for for there you keep going to twenty twenty one twenty I mean it's it's it's it's not a great body of work or it is not a coaching or it is absolutely not but then I think Mike McDaniel got here and and and juice I would I would almost say not he didn't just lose a lot of whom I think he gave it away and it's what you were saying but he gave it away and he gave it away to the wrong people and then he did nothing
45:44
[SPEAKER_06]: to stop the bleeding.
45:46
[SPEAKER_06]: And well, any day, any day, any day, any day.
45:48
[SPEAKER_06]: That is a part of your job.
45:50
[SPEAKER_02]: If any team can't just make the leaders of guys that are making the most money or make guys that are making plays, they're not the guys that, you know, for me, I'm looking for a guy that does things always the right way.
46:01
[SPEAKER_02]: They might not be the best player on the team, but then the models that do the things the right way.
46:06
[SPEAKER_02]: And so if you don't have the right leadership, I don't care how much money they make or how many plays they make, we've had all that.
46:13
[SPEAKER_02]: The money and the place, it might not be the best leaders in your locker room, but for you to hit, you know, for you, those guys are usually a bad influence of some of the younger guys in your locker room.
46:23
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
46:23
[SPEAKER_02]: And they're the ones that sit there and watch these guys, throw the hell they want and think that they can do whatever the hell they want, and they're not in that same class.
46:31
[SPEAKER_02]: Jimmy Johnson, there's much that I don't like that, dude.
46:34
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he's always talked about, you know, there's a total of folks that we
46:43
[SPEAKER_03]: you know and that's what happened these certain guys are making all the money making a place had the privileges but they were the wrong dudes for somebody's young guys we fought i i i totally agree that i'll be very curious by the way if Mike does get another chance i had coach if if that is a lesson that he takes from it
46:58
[SPEAKER_03]: Because you know what, one of the other interesting things though, Jay, when Mike got the job in Miami, there were a bunch of 49er players, and I'm talking to like, we're talking stars, Debo Samuel, George Kittle, juice, McAfrey, the other juice, and those guys were all saying, like, this dude, Mike McDaniel, such a great leader.
47:21
[SPEAKER_03]: and as an offensive coordinator you could understand where that would come from given what we saw from him as a head coach.
47:27
[SPEAKER_03]: The question is when he gets his next head coaching job will he understand that you have to involve as a leader from being a coordinator or position coach to being somebody who is overseeing the whole organization.
47:39
[SPEAKER_03]: You can not prioritize top five players
47:43
[SPEAKER_03]: over the middle of your roster, or you're going to lose them all.
47:47
[SPEAKER_03]: And I do think that if I was to say, what is the one lesson that might can take away from this experience, there's a lot to be gained in terms of developing as a head coach.
47:55
[SPEAKER_03]: But if there is one lesson, you hit the nail on the head.
47:57
[SPEAKER_03]: That is 100% what it's going to have to be.
47:58
[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
47:58
[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
47:58
[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
47:58
[SPEAKER_03]: Right.

[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
48:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
48:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
48:07
[SPEAKER_00]: And the one thing that I always said about McDaniel locker rooms is great guys, classy, classy guys, but there was no edge and it wasn't like being in your locker room, O.J., it wasn't like being in the Miami heat locker rooms when I covered them.
48:36
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I guess he didn't, you know, but part of the crew, but they were just guys with an edge.
48:42
[SPEAKER_00]: Who's job is it?
48:43
[SPEAKER_03]: Who's job is it to acquire guys with edge?
48:46
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think it's the general manager's job.
48:49
[SPEAKER_00]: That's his job description, but you take a lot of that from the coach because the coach is with you every day.
48:57
[SPEAKER_00]: He helps set a tone of seriousness that Bullshit is not gonna be tolerated here.
49:05
[SPEAKER_00]: Look, and this is not a rip job on Mike, but that doctor's I think it's really not, it's really not, but the locker room just wasn't a serious, there was always say there's a necessary paranoia who brings the edge for it's that if I mess up I could lose my job and that wasn't that wasn't the mood in the Daniel air.
49:26
[SPEAKER_03]: Who brings the edge to a locker in the players of the coach?
49:29
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the players bring the edge, the coach sets the tone, the coach is the one who says, this is what will be tolerated, this won't, the players carry it out amongst themselves.
49:40
[SPEAKER_06]: Choose what are your thoughts on that?
49:41
[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, you played for Joe Paterno, Don Shula, and Jimmy Johnson, who, who, that's a great question and answer there by Jeff and, and Perth, what, what are your thoughts on that?
49:51
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I honestly feel like, you know, you've got to ask a fucking dog to your locker room, man.
49:56
[SPEAKER_02]: Bottom line, we talk about this all the time.
49:58
[SPEAKER_02]: You want 98% of the guys on your team to, you know, that you want your daughter to marry it, that you don't want your daughter married, and 2% that you do, you know what I mean?
50:08
[SPEAKER_02]: But you also have the, with, within dogs, you got some guys that do the right thing as dogs.
50:13
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, we got some, I'm not saying, sorry, it's a dog.
50:21
[SPEAKER_02]: Shit, they don't do the right thing, man.
50:23
[SPEAKER_02]: So if you don't do the right thing and being a dog, then there's a problem And then a lot of times now the money's a problem for these dudes because you can't find them enough You can't get rid of them when you want to you can't do a lot of things that you know a shoelah or Jimmy Johnson could threaten you with back in the day You can't threaten these dudes with that don't they don't mean anything these dudes
50:45
[SPEAKER_02]: to write a check in the beginning of the season and say, I won't make any of the means all you're long and it won't bother me at all.
50:51
[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
50:52
[SPEAKER_02]: Because there's the limit on how much you can find these dudes.
50:54
[SPEAKER_02]: It might talk about that.
50:56
[SPEAKER_02]: It might talk about finding guys and things like that.
50:58
[SPEAKER_02]: But bottom line is this, you got to find, you know, you got to find the right dudes that are the ones that can run your locker room.
51:07
[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
51:08
[SPEAKER_02]: Do the right things not necessarily be the best players in your football team but always doing the right things Do that one is so up and go out there and play man.
51:16
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that you know, it's a tough deal for guys that come in now
51:21
[SPEAKER_02]: They don't know, they don't anybody personally, other than Malik Willis, you know me?
51:25
[SPEAKER_02]: They don't know anybody else, so they're, they're hoping now it's trying to figure out who are these dogs, now who do you talk to to find out who they are?
51:32
[SPEAKER_02]: Who do you, what do you, what do you go to find out?
51:34
[SPEAKER_02]: Which guy's editor in this article now?
51:36
[SPEAKER_03]: You have to find them, you gotta go draft them, you gotta acquire them, if you can't.
51:41
[SPEAKER_03]: What you gotta make, hey somebody's, who's out of there now though, Joe?
51:44
[SPEAKER_03]: I agree, but that is the job, say it with me, Perk.
51:47
[SPEAKER_03]: The coach doesn't teach the player how to be a bad husband at home.
51:58
[SPEAKER_03]: But for Jeff, 90% of it comes from the door.
52:01
[SPEAKER_06]: You can't absolve the coach of all of that.
52:04
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not, I mean, not at all.
52:06
[SPEAKER_06]: Because they're picking the kind of guys they want, too, right?
52:09
[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
52:10
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not, I'm not at all absolving him, but I'm just saying that I don't necessarily agree with Kirk that Mike McDaniel was most responsible for him because he's saying that there wasn't enough edge in the locker room either, which to me, that doesn't fall in that coach.
52:22
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, well, I'm a trade-in, so I'm a trade-in quick mix
52:28
[SPEAKER_02]: Mike McDonald's in the locker room 100% at the time and Chris Greer's in the locker room probably 2% at the time.
52:36
[SPEAKER_02]: So somebody's yeah somebody's controlling an environment and it wasn't Chris Greer controlling an environment.
52:42
[SPEAKER_06]: Mike, but he's reading, he's reading, he's setting the tone as president.
52:48
[SPEAKER_06]: I understand your point is who brings the players in?
52:51
[SPEAKER_06]: And it's not only who brings the players in, it's who has the power and the balls to say no if they had coach wants a certain thing.
52:58
[SPEAKER_06]: And you made that point as well, right?
53:00
[SPEAKER_06]: The coach falls in love with the quarterback and wants to be paid because he doesn't want to watch him standing on the sidelines and he can't execute his practice.
53:07
[SPEAKER_06]: The GMS to say, hold your water.
53:09
[SPEAKER_06]: like we're not going to be irresponsible here.
53:12
[SPEAKER_06]: So I agree with you there that that and that was Chris Greer's downfall more than any player procurement.
53:18
[SPEAKER_06]: It was his inability to push back at his head coach and you know what happened with Brian Flores.
53:25
[SPEAKER_06]: So they just fired Brian Flores and there's a number of different reasons but they fired Brian Flores because of that.
53:30
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, his inability to kind of manage that.
53:32
[SPEAKER_06]: It happened with Mag Daniel.
53:34
[SPEAKER_06]: It happened with probably Adam Gase as well.
53:37
[SPEAKER_06]: And so I think that that Greer has to be responsible for that.
53:40
[SPEAKER_06]: But setting the tone and fine and players want, look, Alagan Gold, Cole Strange, we're starting to see players from Miami go right to the chargers.
53:48
[SPEAKER_06]: And that's not because the GM just woke up and said, hey, these kind of guys are our fit.
53:53
[SPEAKER_06]: It's Mike Mag Daniel advocating for those guys.
53:55
[SPEAKER_03]: You do, that's a good point.
53:56
[SPEAKER_03]: You want to find a lot of times with Kyle with Mike, which responsible for finding Debo Samuel, because he believed that he could be the type of running back in his offense as opposed to just being a past catcher.
54:09
[SPEAKER_03]: To me, that's where you're leaning on the head coach to kind of,
54:13
[SPEAKER_03]: fit that mold and that's what I think what spin it forward would genre solve in and a head coach who kind of worked together in green bay, even though they were a best friends, you know that that synergy sort of exists.
54:26
[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that that's sort of the downfall of any team going back to the idea of like the blame game, the blame game honestly is when you have a partnership of two people that don't ultimately work.
54:39
[SPEAKER_03]: and whether it's Mike Vrable in New England and having more of a cerebral die is going to do the talent acquisition, which Mike is extremely smart too, but he's kind of that tone set or more.
54:51
[SPEAKER_03]: He said tone, right, but then you're going to have a counter to that.
54:56
[SPEAKER_03]: Mike and Chris, that is not a good mix.
54:58
[SPEAKER_03]: You cannot have a guy who wants to put himself in his office and figure out the game plan when you have a GM down the hall.
55:06
[SPEAKER_03]: in his office.
55:08
[SPEAKER_03]: You have to have the combination, the synergy between the front office and the coach, and if you don't, you have nothing.
55:16
[SPEAKER_06]: I think like yeah there it is that's a mic drop right there.
55:19
[SPEAKER_06]: You have nothing and that's exactly what we ended up with and and they're rebuilding from nothing So we've completely broken format and it has been the greatest format break that we've ever had so this is fantastic Very fun, but there's a question right before we wrap this thing up and let you go and and Jeff by the way you told me 20 minutes and you gave us a full hour We got exactly
55:42
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know what that was going on next time, but that was the first time.
55:45
[SPEAKER_02]: Wait, watch yourself, big sad.
55:47
[SPEAKER_02]: Watch yourself.
55:48
[SPEAKER_02]: Man, look at this, and then you're going on that car.
55:50
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know what Jeff's going to take it all the way home either.
55:53
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know.
55:54
[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't know we could run errands when we were doing this shit.
55:57
[SPEAKER_06]: That was incredible.
55:58
[SPEAKER_06]: So, Sam asked, and we could be great questions.
56:01
[SPEAKER_06]: Since we're talking about the responsibility of the GM, and the responsibility of the head coach, I'm going to make Jeff Darlington the general manager.
56:08
[SPEAKER_06]: Chris Perkins is the head coach.
56:10
[SPEAKER_06]: Sam Mark who wants to know Jeff, which current Miami Dolphin's beat writer would you sign to your football team and what position would they play with?
56:21
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's give me the, let me think this through.
56:24
[SPEAKER_03]: I got to go, I got to go, Chad.
56:26
[SPEAKER_03]: I'll go, Chad, you know, really versatile guy kind of five to a player.
56:32
[SPEAKER_03]: I think his better years are behind him.
56:35
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, that's what he is.
56:37
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't think there's been an overpayment of better around him.
56:44
[SPEAKER_00]: That I'd have to go.
56:46
[SPEAKER_00]: I'd have to go with my coworker.
56:48
[SPEAKER_00]: My boy David Ferronis, man.
56:49
[SPEAKER_00]: He's young.
56:50
[SPEAKER_00]: He works out.
56:51
[SPEAKER_00]: He's in shape.
56:52
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he can play all kinds of deep men's got a little added suit to it.
56:56
[SPEAKER_06]: Because we're in a hell of a cap saying, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate to tell you, I hate
57:23
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I've been 80 everybody.
57:25
[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for diving in everybody.
57:26
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll stand and stop.
57:33
[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks, fellas.
57:38
[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate it.
57:54
[SPEAKER_01]: Definitely never stay
