- 0:00Speaker 1: The Celebrity News.
- 0:01Speaker 2: You like that guards all right? So you now, I've
- 0:04Speaker 2: been talking this week about Math's UK because brides have
- 0:07Speaker 2: come forward from a season back in twenty twenty three.
- 0:10Speaker 2: I believe it was claiming sexual assault from their on
- 0:13Speaker 2: screen husbands and that they told production at the time
- 0:17Speaker 2: and nothing was done about it. So now obviously they're
- 0:20Speaker 2: looking into it. They've even pulled all seasons of Married
- 0:23Speaker 2: at First Sight UK from streaming platforms and things like that,
- 0:25Speaker 2: so it's been treated very serious. When it comes to
- 0:28Speaker 2: the Australian version of former MATHS bride Jackie Burfoot has
- 0:32Speaker 2: come out and she's now making claims about some of
- 0:35Speaker 2: the things she witnessed on the Australian show. Now, Jackie
- 0:38Speaker 2: was a bride last season and she said that some
- 0:42Speaker 2: of the brides on her season allegedly were the victims
- 0:45Speaker 2: of domestic abuse and some men even had criminal records.
- 0:49Speaker 2: She's like posted this video on Instagram. She's basically slamming production,
- 0:53Speaker 2: slamming show producers, and she says the reason these storylines
- 0:57Speaker 2: never made it to air is because it wasn't suitable
- 0:59Speaker 2: for prime time TV. Now, this was quite a long video,
- 1:02Speaker 2: so we've cut it down, but have a listener to
- 1:04Speaker 2: what she said.
- 1:06Speaker 3: The question is whether the Maths environment contributes to this.
- 1:09Speaker 3: I absolutely think it does. I know for a fact
- 1:11Speaker 3: that they cast outgoing, outrageous individuals who are going to
- 1:16Speaker 3: cause drama. Yes, a tendency to cast men, in particular
- 1:20Speaker 3: with domestic violence backgrounds, even like histories of criminal records
- 1:23Speaker 3: and things like that, and it is quite alarming in
- 1:26Speaker 3: my season if this did happen and there were men
- 1:29Speaker 3: cast with criminal records, there were women that became victims
- 1:32Speaker 3: to these behaviors. A lot of it never went to
- 1:35Speaker 3: air because it's not suitable for primetime TV.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I mean, this is blown up in the UK and
- 1:40Speaker 2: they've basically canceled the show, and you know how popular
- 1:43Speaker 2: it is here in Australia. Yeah, it's almost pioneering, like
- 1:45Speaker 2: a me too movement among reality contestine. So it wouldn't
- 1:49Speaker 2: surprise me if these women who felt like they were
- 1:52Speaker 2: so stuck under their contracts because they basically signed their
- 1:55Speaker 2: life away for a year. But when it films to
- 1:58Speaker 2: when it airs like they've got no control.
- 2:00Speaker 1: We can't. It's like, can we be shocked that we're
- 2:03Speaker 1: not watching Maths thinking that they've just got a bunch
- 2:06Speaker 1: of people who are all squeaky clean, and they're doing
- 2:10Speaker 1: it matching them for true love, I mean, they're doing
- 2:12Speaker 1: it for drama.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Oh, here you are.
- 2:14Speaker 1: But they've got to vet them properly, right, You've got
- 2:16Speaker 1: to find out who these people are. This is a thing.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Though you do sign up. I mean Jackie, Jackie's lovely.
- 2:21Speaker 4: What you see is what you get with her, right,
- 2:22Speaker 4: But the thing is, you do sign your life away.
- 2:25Speaker 4: You do let them do whatever. So it's kind of like,
- 2:29Speaker 4: I think after the fact, but then don't do it. Yeah,
- 2:32Speaker 4: but you know that they want to do it because then.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Yeah, so they agree to.
- 2:36Speaker 2: That, I mean agreeing to those things like signing your
- 2:39Speaker 2: life away and your socials being controlled by Channel nine
- 2:43Speaker 2: or whatever. That's one thing. But to feel as if
- 2:46Speaker 2: you can't, you know, even speak up when something like
- 2:49Speaker 2: this is happening, that's pretty serious.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Well yeah, if absolutely, they shouldn't. It should be taken
- 2:54Speaker 1: way more seriously. If something does go wrong,
