- 0:36Speaker 2: Matt Laflur coach Matt Lafleur. Thank you guys. Hey, well
- 0:41Speaker 2: you can't memorize that.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I probably can, but when it's just sitting there, it's like,
- 0:47Speaker 1: might as well.
- 0:47Speaker 2: You read it?
- 0:47Speaker 1: Well, thank you?
- 0:49Speaker 2: He got your education in Nebraska.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Yeah, what's the end stand for knowledge?
- 0:53Speaker 3: That's right, That's why we get it done there.
- 0:55Speaker 2: You know, they say the same thing about Northern Michigan
- 0:57Speaker 2: University really and stands for knowledge.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Everybody everybody just trying to copy thee Yeah, to copy league.
- 1:06Speaker 1: It was funny when you were when we were talking
- 1:08Speaker 1: about halving my hand and everything. When I was in
- 1:12Speaker 1: Oakland or Vegas, my linebacker coach like every game I'm
- 1:15Speaker 1: like dapping somebody up from the other team, like on
- 1:18Speaker 1: the side during three game war whoops. And he's always like,
- 1:20Speaker 1: I feel like you could just be the mayor. I
- 1:21Speaker 1: feel like you know somebody everywhere we go to and
- 1:24Speaker 1: we'd have a nice little laugh about it. But I
- 1:26Speaker 1: did feel like once I got to the back end,
- 1:28Speaker 1: like it was, I was more just having the greatest
- 1:30Speaker 1: time I possibly could. Yeah.
- 1:32Speaker 3: I mean you you were afforded the availability to be
- 1:35Speaker 3: playing at the highest level you can and in the
- 1:38Speaker 3: sport you love the most. Will also not caring, and
- 1:41Speaker 3: I think that is Yeah.
- 1:42Speaker 2: No, he carred. He cared.
- 1:44Speaker 3: He cares so much.
- 1:45Speaker 2: This guy had the greatest pun sets I've ever seen.
- 1:49Speaker 1: That he needs to hear that. Braves always coaching me different,
- 1:54Speaker 1: like you know, there's some different things fundamentally that if
- 1:56Speaker 1: I was yeah.
- 1:57Speaker 2: If I was especial, he just slacked a little length.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Yes, and Ray was it was always about the punch
- 2:03Speaker 1: and for my length in my arms, like I needed
- 2:06Speaker 1: the guy to be in a little tighter so I
- 2:08Speaker 1: could finesse him a little bit. Because if I'm just
- 2:10Speaker 1: trying to release, most guys are gonna run with me downfield,
- 2:13Speaker 1: so I need them to kind of be in my
- 2:14Speaker 1: body versus shocking them because usually I got I got
- 2:17Speaker 1: the t Rex like use length, so you got.
- 2:21Speaker 2: You're not a great quality play, not a great that
- 2:25Speaker 2: we always look at that arm length.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Ray wouldn't even let me on Punk Return. I've talked
- 2:29Speaker 1: about it before, but I couldn't even like be on
- 2:31Speaker 1: Punk Return because they just talked about my arm lengths.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Yeah is it that?
- 2:39Speaker 1: No, Bro, that's like it's like, you know, getting them
- 2:41Speaker 1: at the line of scrimmage. We do those one on
- 2:43Speaker 1: one Remember we do those one on ones in front
- 2:46Speaker 1: of all.
- 2:47Speaker 3: The murdered by Keith Carter.
- 2:48Speaker 1: But I'm saying at training camp when Ray would shut
- 2:51Speaker 1: it down and you do the one on ones, like
- 2:52Speaker 1: in front of everybody, do you do that with green Bay? No,
- 2:56Speaker 1: it's not something you do with green Bay. I just
- 2:59Speaker 1: feel like you got the blood flow going, like fuck,
- 3:01Speaker 1: you gotta.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Kind of the stress of having the team watch you
- 3:04Speaker 3: do a one on one. I don't think you could
- 3:06Speaker 3: replicate that in any other scenario.
- 3:09Speaker 2: That a little bit more this year.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I think it's good for competitive juices.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Okay, that's good to know.
- 3:14Speaker 3: I do like and if you're a young guy and
- 3:16Speaker 3: you're you know you're about to be called up.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Yeah, usually the like yeah.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Some of you, but yeah you might come up to
- 3:24Speaker 2: one of those guys respond.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Because usually do one on ones. But you're always broken
- 3:27Speaker 1: up where it's stations. But when it's like the head
- 3:29Speaker 1: coach calls it up and you're he's calling out different guys,
- 3:32Speaker 1: you're sitting there in lining being like, yeah, is he
- 3:34Speaker 1: about to call my number? And you just got that
- 3:36Speaker 1: little bit of anxiety.
- 3:37Speaker 3: A little bit. It's a lot of it. Yeah, it
- 3:40Speaker 3: is a lot. But I think the reason why you
- 3:43Speaker 3: had the relationships with everybody is your time with the Redskins,
- 3:47Speaker 3: and that's where you come into play, because that's where
- 3:48Speaker 3: the nucleague is right now, it's incredible.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Everywhere we got he was there, he was there, we
- 3:55Speaker 2: got fired.
- 3:56Speaker 3: That is how did it not work out there with
- 3:59Speaker 3: that many brains?
- 4:00Speaker 2: Well, I think it just goes to show you the
- 4:03Speaker 2: power of the player. I mean, this is a hit,
- 4:06Speaker 2: Mike blow.
- 4:07Speaker 3: The power of the player.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Yeah. You know, you got to have great players in
- 4:11Speaker 2: order to have success in this league. And not to
- 4:13Speaker 2: say that we didn't, I just for whatever reason, it
- 4:17Speaker 2: didn't come together. You know, we had the one good
- 4:19Speaker 2: year in twenty twelve where we won our division and
- 4:25Speaker 2: lost to Seattle and the playoffs Robert towards a c L.
- 4:28Speaker 2: And the next year was a complete disaster. I think
- 4:32Speaker 2: we went three and thir Remember we got just smashed
- 4:36Speaker 2: by the Kansas City Chiefs and there was a That's
- 4:40Speaker 2: when I knew it was all over.
- 4:42Speaker 1: That's what who is it?
- 4:43Speaker 3: Coach? Your years were done after that?
- 4:45Speaker 1: Oh yeah yeah? And he didn't. You didn't get retained
- 4:49Speaker 1: by the I did not got you because a few
- 4:52Speaker 1: of them did.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, sorry, Sewan did. Yeah, Sean Raheem. There's a
- 4:57Speaker 2: couple of guys, that's right, that's right, But not many.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Yeah, not many survivors.
- 5:03Speaker 2: That's kind of the way of our you know, it's
- 5:05Speaker 2: the way of our profession.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Yeah, how does it like does that ever eat at
- 5:09Speaker 3: you a little bit? Like knowing that this NFL stands
- 5:11Speaker 3: for not for long and you're just no.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I do think it. I just think that if if
- 5:17Speaker 2: you're smart about it, just ups your urgency level. You know,
- 5:22Speaker 2: you gotta you gotta be urgent and everything we do,
- 5:24Speaker 2: and you can't take it for granted, even when you
- 5:28Speaker 2: you feel like you have a good team, Like to me,
- 5:30Speaker 2: that's when you have to push even more. So you
- 5:32Speaker 2: can't let anybody kind of get complacent or rest and
- 5:38Speaker 2: so yeah, but that's it. But it's the beauty of
- 5:41Speaker 2: our league too, just the competitiveness. I don't think the.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Hell is your head too?
- 5:49Speaker 2: What we got up there? What kind of place are
- 5:53Speaker 2: we renting here?
- 5:54Speaker 3: Josh Jacobs state here when he first got here.
- 5:56Speaker 2: I know that's what Eli Kingold.
- 5:58Speaker 1: He texted when he saw video of our specially, it
- 6:00Speaker 1: sunds like this is spyt.
- 6:00Speaker 2: To run out of that Wisconsin well, I mean, shoot,
- 6:04Speaker 2: it's nice and convenient. Lambo's right across. It's crazy, that's
- 6:08Speaker 2: it is. It's an interesting set up here, dude.
- 6:10Speaker 1: It's a cool town. It's like knowing that you just
- 6:13Speaker 1: kind of like drive in this small town then out
- 6:15Speaker 1: of nowhere Lambeo Field just popps. Yeah, it's kind of
- 6:17Speaker 1: the center of it all.
- 6:18Speaker 3: You think this town revolves run the fall and then
- 6:19Speaker 3: preparing for the fall like all the other seasons. Is like,
- 6:22Speaker 3: I can't wait for August to get here.
- 6:24Speaker 1: It's got to be nice for a head coach knowing
- 6:25Speaker 1: that there's not as many distractions.
- 6:27Speaker 2: There's zero distractions. So like, if you can't get the
- 6:30Speaker 2: most out of somebody here, I don't think you can
- 6:32Speaker 2: do it anywhere. I love it personally because we don't
- 6:37Speaker 2: have a lot of issues with our players, and our
- 6:39Speaker 2: guys can focus on football. I know, even for me,
- 6:41Speaker 2: and I think our coaches you could say that the
- 6:44Speaker 2: same thing for I mean, you focus on your job
- 6:47Speaker 2: and your family.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Yeah, well, Josh are telling us about your schedule. You
- 6:52Speaker 3: gotta love schedule. Wednesday is getting done at like three o'clock?
- 6:57Speaker 2: Is it that early?
- 6:58Speaker 3: That's what he says.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Put it like this. He was giving you a lot
- 7:01Speaker 1: of praise. He said, if there's one thing he understands
- 7:03Speaker 1: the efficiency.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Efficiency, well, the one that's the only thing in life
- 7:08Speaker 2: you can never get back is time. Right, So I
- 7:13Speaker 2: try to make it just expedited as best we can.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And and I don't want to drag the days out.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I want our guys to get in get their work
- 7:22Speaker 2: in and then get out, go recovery, do what you
- 7:25Speaker 2: got to do. But there is an expectation. I expect
- 7:27Speaker 2: these guys when they go home that they're not just
- 7:29Speaker 2: shutting it off. That if, however, you've got to prepare
- 7:33Speaker 2: to get yourself to get ready for the next day.
- 7:35Speaker 2: That's the expectation. So you do put a lot of
- 7:38Speaker 2: onus on the players.
- 7:39Speaker 3: If you were in a spot like l A or
- 7:41Speaker 3: Las Vegas, do you think you'd make the days a
- 7:43Speaker 3: little bit longer because of all the distinations?
- 7:45Speaker 2: Right, probably we're.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Gonna do good to Buffalo will Wings like we had
- 7:54Speaker 3: it last night.
- 7:56Speaker 2: So beat ups is open right now?
- 7:58Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 7:58Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, so run.
- 8:01Speaker 1: You've been around a lot of amazing coaches. Which coach
- 8:04Speaker 1: do you feel like you've gotten the most from as.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Far as Yeah, there's been too many good ones, you know,
- 8:12Speaker 2: from from Mike Shanahan just the attention to detail and
- 8:17Speaker 2: I mean that guy could his focus was on another level.
- 8:22Speaker 2: To Kyle just he's never happy with anything. But I
- 8:25Speaker 2: think that that makes you better at what you do.
- 8:29Speaker 2: I mean, there's you always feel that that urgency, that
- 8:32Speaker 2: pressure too, and you better think things through before you
- 8:36Speaker 2: bring him an idea, otherwise you're probably going to get
- 8:39Speaker 2: your face ripped off to Sean. Sean was great with accountability.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Dan Quinn just kind of like our culture and in
- 8:49Speaker 2: our environment a lot with shape from just being around
- 8:52Speaker 2: him and making it a place where people enjoy going
- 8:56Speaker 2: to work. And so I think you take something from everybody.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Vrabel was was good to. I mean, he's going to
- 9:05Speaker 2: put the most on the best players on the team,
- 9:08Speaker 2: and you guys know that, and he's going to demand
- 9:10Speaker 2: the most out out of the best. And so I
- 9:14Speaker 2: think you learned from from everybody.
- 9:17Speaker 1: I want to get I wanted I want you to
- 9:19Speaker 1: tell the story of the locker room at halftime with Taylor.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Yeah, this is against the Jets, right, I think it
- 9:26Speaker 2: was the Jets game.
- 9:28Speaker 3: They tried to bench Quentin Spain, and I was so
- 9:32Speaker 3: mad because Spain was hurt or might have been hurt
- 9:35Speaker 3: or thinking about being hurt. He had something going on.
- 9:38Speaker 3: But there was no other guard. And I was obviously
- 9:42Speaker 3: Spain at least at the very least trusted me, and
- 9:44Speaker 3: I could trust Spain to do the things I needed
- 9:46Speaker 3: him to do. So Keith went to Rabel and was like,
- 9:50Speaker 3: we got to get spain out of here, he's not
- 9:52Speaker 3: playing well, blah blah blah blah. And then I went
- 9:54Speaker 3: in and I think I called Keith Cardar tattletale, which
- 9:56Speaker 3: if looking back, looking use different Burbidge. I walked out,
- 10:02Speaker 3: you're a fucking tattletale. There's no way to say tattletale.
- 10:04Speaker 1: In a cool way.
- 10:06Speaker 3: And he's like, would you say I remember Mike Sullivan
- 10:08Speaker 3: like pulled me out, and then yeah, Ravee came in
- 10:11Speaker 3: and I was like, Spae's not playing a must not playing.
- 10:13Speaker 3: He's then you're not playing Vrabel. He's like, then you're
- 10:15Speaker 3: not playing and then we got into it.
- 10:17Speaker 2: But yeah, you guys were nose to nose, and I
- 10:20Speaker 2: remember I stepped in the middle. I'm like, guys, guys, guys,
- 10:23Speaker 2: and I gotta shut the fuck up Matt And I said, yes, sir,
- 10:26Speaker 2: and I just went back at the board got there.
- 10:29Speaker 2: I just got I mean, I was, I mean, look
- 10:32Speaker 2: at me compared to the size of these two guys,
- 10:34Speaker 2: Are you kidding, guys, guys, shut the fuck.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Up, Matt Is.
- 10:38Speaker 3: They ended up putting Ben in a guard and I
- 10:40Speaker 3: don't think ever like passed off games better than my
- 10:43Speaker 3: entire life with somebody like Ben was incredible at guard.
- 10:45Speaker 2: And I can't even remember the detail of that or
- 10:48Speaker 2: why why you guys were going nose and nose, But
- 10:50Speaker 2: I do remember we won the game in overtime. Are
- 10:53Speaker 2: right before overtime? We're getting our ass kicked in that game?
- 10:57Speaker 2: We won't at the the end of the game.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I started off that game with like a penalty
- 11:01Speaker 3: I think in the first series, like got mode over
- 11:04Speaker 3: one time. It was like a bad start to the game.
- 11:06Speaker 3: And then we started to catch a little groove. Yeah,
- 11:08Speaker 3: but it was it was just turbulent times.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Obviously.
- 11:12Speaker 3: I don't like he, I didn't like I wasn't a
- 11:13Speaker 3: fan of Keith, and there was just like a bunch
- 11:15Speaker 3: of other things you Keith, I do I love that
- 11:19Speaker 3: for you guys, man, I don't. Yeah, I don't want
- 11:22Speaker 3: to sit here just like be like demonstraship about Keith,
- 11:24Speaker 3: because I'm sure he does have good qualities off the field,
- 11:27Speaker 3: no doubt about it. But your time in Tennessee, Like,
- 11:31Speaker 3: are you running the same offense as you did in Tennessee?
- 11:34Speaker 2: No, I'd say it's I mean, you're ever evolving, right, yeah,
- 11:37Speaker 2: but you're still in liketro and absolutely the core principles
- 11:41Speaker 2: stay the same. A lot of the techniques and fundamentals
- 11:44Speaker 2: that we coach are very similar. I think the philosophy around,
- 11:50Speaker 2: you know, your offensive game plan of trying to marry
- 11:52Speaker 2: up plays, trying to have the passing game be an
- 11:56Speaker 2: extension of the run game, and vice versa. I think
- 11:59Speaker 2: all that is stayed the same, but certainly you got
- 12:02Speaker 2: to adapt to your personnel number one, and I always
- 12:05Speaker 2: try to try to see the game through the eyes
- 12:08Speaker 2: of the quarterback and try to figure out what he
- 12:10Speaker 2: does well along with the other ten men around him.
- 12:16Speaker 2: So that's how you try to implement your system.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Do you remember that first OTAs in twenty eighteen or
- 12:23Speaker 3: that much of a shit show it was?
- 12:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember we got our ass kicked. We had
- 12:27Speaker 2: a bad practice, and it was doomsday around the building,
- 12:31Speaker 2: and I was like, oh my god, I hope we
- 12:32Speaker 2: never lose a game.
- 12:35Speaker 3: As we went from just speaking from an office line perspective,
- 12:38Speaker 3: we were running like only DAP scheme and only inside zone,
- 12:42Speaker 3: so there was no like running off the ball techniques.
- 12:44Speaker 3: You guys came in and started implementing these techniques that
- 12:47Speaker 3: I've never done before. A lot of guys had never
- 12:49Speaker 3: done before. So I remember the first day like, oh, hey,
- 12:52Speaker 3: we're gonna run nineteen Wanda. I'm going towards the outside
- 12:55Speaker 3: shoulder of the defensive end and Brian Ripo just goes
- 12:57Speaker 3: right inside immediately cause I sprint was right, so immediately
- 13:00Speaker 3: get to TF. I'm thinking myself, this is we're gonna
- 13:02Speaker 3: this is terrible. I hate this and it ended up
- 13:06Speaker 3: being by the end of I was like, this is
- 13:08Speaker 3: the greatest offensive scheme ever.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Well good, I'm glad you came around.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Yeah, because it really became like my Obviously I like.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Even your strength because you're super athletic.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Yeah, and then once like once a lot more.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Then the guys sitting next to you. Damn, just you look.
- 13:31Speaker 2: I know, you look great in that fifty one in
- 13:33Speaker 2: the green and gold.
- 13:38Speaker 1: And get some positivity.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Yeah, but that I I love that offense. I love it,
- 13:44Speaker 3: the Wanda, all of it. Yeah, just sprending off the
- 13:46Speaker 3: ball to cut offs like it became my favorite thing.
- 13:49Speaker 2: But everything has to tie in together. The back's path,
- 13:52Speaker 2: with the old line, the quarterback, everybody has a responsibility.
- 13:56Speaker 2: You know, we're gonna demand that the wide receivers block
- 13:59Speaker 2: and I think that's one thing that I'm really proud
- 14:02Speaker 2: of with our group is they're they're going to go battle.
- 14:05Speaker 2: They're going to fight their ass off on every play.
- 14:07Speaker 2: And I don't think you see that, you know, from
- 14:10Speaker 2: every team around the league?
- 14:12Speaker 1: Uh, can you? When you talked to when we were
- 14:15Speaker 1: talking to Josh last night, he also brought up a
- 14:17Speaker 1: conversation he had with Malik Willis. But it seems like
- 14:20Speaker 1: a constant when you talk to your players, is you
- 14:22Speaker 1: know how to teach the game? How did that start
- 14:25Speaker 1: to develop for you in when you are like delivering
- 14:28Speaker 1: the ins and outs of a play, Because I feel
- 14:30Speaker 1: like every player talks about how well you coach the
- 14:32Speaker 1: game and teach like the game within the game to
- 14:34Speaker 1: where the guys understand it. Because Malik Willis, like, what
- 14:37Speaker 1: was that early in the season, Week three or four?
- 14:39Speaker 1: He just showed up and you guys pulling off an upset.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Well, you guys got him.
- 14:44Speaker 2: We start he started week two versus Indy and he
- 14:46Speaker 2: had been here I think nineteen days, yeah to that
- 14:49Speaker 2: point before he started a game, and now it was
- 14:52Speaker 2: a We didn't try to put too much on his plate.
- 14:55Speaker 2: I mean, you can't when a guy's been here for
- 14:57Speaker 2: three weeks, and so he leaned on our run game
- 15:01Speaker 2: heavily and we had a great The first half was
- 15:04Speaker 2: we were killing it rushing the football. We had over
- 15:06Speaker 2: two hundred yards rushing in the first half, but kind
- 15:08Speaker 2: of slowed down after that quite a bit. But he
- 15:11Speaker 2: made some big time plays late in the game that
- 15:14Speaker 2: allowed us to win that game. And then the next
- 15:16Speaker 2: week it was the Malik Willis Revenge Tour going down
- 15:19Speaker 2: to Tennessee. And you know, I bet so much money
- 15:22Speaker 2: in the Titans that game, did you?
- 15:24Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 15:24Speaker 2: I did, because I felt pretty confident going into that game.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Did you really? I did see Malik Like I had
- 15:31Speaker 3: the chance to play with Malik for a little bit, sure,
- 15:34Speaker 3: and the thing that I noticed was like he just
- 15:36Speaker 3: wasn't grasping the playbook and so he would do the
- 15:38Speaker 3: wrong cans or you know, he wouldn't understand like when
- 15:41Speaker 3: the safety's move, that's when you have to go to
- 15:43Speaker 3: the opposite away, all these.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Different What year was that though? From this is his
- 15:46Speaker 2: rookie year.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but it would give the guy some grace.
- 15:49Speaker 3: But you just go off of what you know, right,
- 15:51Speaker 3: So I was like, oh, if this kid's coming in
- 15:52Speaker 3: he busted I mean they ran the ball a lot
- 15:54Speaker 3: against Indy this game to have a whole uh, they
- 15:57Speaker 3: have all this film on him now, or at least
- 15:59Speaker 3: one week of film like this is where it ends.
- 16:01Speaker 3: And I thought the Titans would get going at some
- 16:04Speaker 3: point and they never got going.
- 16:06Speaker 2: That picked six by Jay or it certainly helped helped
- 16:10Speaker 2: our cause remember the first play of the game, you know,
- 16:15Speaker 2: just knowing that we ran the ball forty some odd
- 16:18Speaker 2: times versus Indy, that everybody was going to be geared
- 16:22Speaker 2: up for a run. So we faked a little toss
- 16:24Speaker 2: and hit Jay Reid out the back, the backside for
- 16:27Speaker 2: like a thirty yard game. It was great.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a little smile yeah about it?
- 16:34Speaker 3: How is that the first fifteen? Like how much how
- 16:37Speaker 3: often do coaches overthink the first fifteen plays of the game.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Well, I know for myself that first fifteen has really grown,
- 16:45Speaker 2: so it's really like a first twenty five. Now you
- 16:49Speaker 2: never just rip it off. But what it does is
- 16:53Speaker 2: so for myself, I do this on Friday evening. Friday
- 16:58Speaker 2: is actually a long day for for me to kind
- 17:01Speaker 2: of like really think about the plays that I absolutely
- 17:04Speaker 2: want to get called, and then I get them to
- 17:07Speaker 2: our players on Saturday, and I think it gives them
- 17:11Speaker 2: an idea of Okay, I better be on point with
- 17:15Speaker 2: these twenty five plays that have a pretty good chance
- 17:17Speaker 2: at some point in the game, these plays are going
- 17:20Speaker 2: to get called. So it really it takes the game
- 17:22Speaker 2: plan and kind of shrinks it a little bit. And
- 17:25Speaker 2: I think what we felt it's been beneficial for our players.
- 17:29Speaker 3: With that process. Are you looking at these twenty five
- 17:31Speaker 3: and is in your minds are these in order?
- 17:33Speaker 1: Like in a.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Perfect world where you're playing the most, you're calling the
- 17:36Speaker 3: perfect game, the guys are doing exactly what you want
- 17:38Speaker 3: them to do. Is that one, two, three, four, five, six,
- 17:41Speaker 3: all the way down to twenty five like in order
- 17:42Speaker 3: in your ease?
- 17:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think it rarely goes like that, to
- 17:45Speaker 2: be honest with you, because the first fifteen or twenty
- 17:49Speaker 2: five are, however many somebody does, those are really just
- 17:52Speaker 2: non situational plays. Those are normal ball that's first down
- 17:57Speaker 2: first and ten that's second and medium to second and short.
- 18:02Speaker 2: It's never really third down calls. It's not the red zone,
- 18:05Speaker 2: it's not backed up, So you got a whole separate
- 18:10Speaker 2: area for those types of plays. But yeah, I would
- 18:13Speaker 2: say if you're if you're just ripping them off the top,
- 18:16Speaker 2: you're you're staying on schedule, and you're you're doing pretty well.
- 18:20Speaker 3: How much is how much is it a chess match?
- 18:23Speaker 3: During a game when you're calling like how like? Essentially
- 18:27Speaker 3: the game to me is like the OC versus the DC, right,
- 18:30Speaker 3: and then you have all your pawns on the chessboard
- 18:32Speaker 3: playing like how much is it? You're seeing what they're doing,
- 18:35Speaker 3: you're reacting, they're reacting to you, and it's like a
- 18:36Speaker 3: back and forth with like.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I think there's a lot of that, But at
- 18:39Speaker 2: the same time, it's you know, if I got a
- 18:43Speaker 2: guy that's better than your guy, there's a good chance
- 18:45Speaker 2: no matter what I call, that play is gonna work.
- 18:49Speaker 2: That's a fair point.
- 18:50Speaker 1: And you know, you know he's got the you know,
- 18:52Speaker 1: he's thinking it's a chess match the entire time. Like
- 18:54Speaker 1: you look at his his bald fad he's got going on.
- 18:58Speaker 1: He's gonna be checking this.
- 19:00Speaker 2: We see your bad.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Okay, I need to get some product, little hat head,
- 19:09Speaker 1: Little hatthead, he showered today. Last night, okay last night.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Long term, there's been a lot of conversations about this bus,
- 19:16Speaker 3: about showering lately.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Visit are you somebody who has to shower every time
- 19:25Speaker 1: you travel at the end of the day.
- 19:29Speaker 2: More than likely, yes, he says more than.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Likely, more than likely, more than he says more than likely.
- 19:37Speaker 1: So last week we were at we're in Michigan.
- 19:40Speaker 2: And where we're at Michigan, Okay.
- 19:44Speaker 1: We're at the College for spring Ball Washington.
- 19:48Speaker 2: We had to work out did he do any one
- 19:50Speaker 2: on ones? He kind of bout out, he kind of
- 19:55Speaker 2: I may or may not have seen a one on
- 19:57Speaker 2: one rep at the University of Org.
- 19:59Speaker 3: You you get down if you're a coach scouting that
- 20:02Speaker 3: there is.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Nothing to break down those I mean his ankles. He
- 20:07Speaker 2: definitely got his ankles, Bro's and ankles.
- 20:10Speaker 3: See, the problem for me was just like, let the
- 20:12Speaker 3: very least make a reaction, like guess, even if you
- 20:15Speaker 3: guess wrong.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Well, we talked about because he told me he knew
- 20:18Speaker 2: he was gonna take away the inside said this conversation.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Yeah, when we were setting up the interview, it was like, hey,
- 20:25Speaker 1: I saw that one on one rep. We were laughing
- 20:28Speaker 1: about it. He's like, why don't you just guess to
- 20:30Speaker 1: the inside. I was like, I'm telling you, Bro, That's
- 20:33Speaker 1: what I was telling the boys right before. I'm like,
- 20:34Speaker 1: the cameras are going to be on. I'm talking to
- 20:36Speaker 1: JP stating there, the cameras are going to be on.
- 20:38Speaker 1: This kid is gonna want to cross my face. He's
- 20:41Speaker 1: gonna want to play, is right?
- 20:43Speaker 2: Come on?
- 20:43Speaker 1: Man?
- 20:44Speaker 2: The body just didn't react, didn't react him almost grabbing
- 20:51Speaker 2: him just a little bit and already reacting.
- 20:55Speaker 3: It is so tough, but.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Made me laugh. Though you did.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I'm glad I gave you some entertainment.
- 21:04Speaker 2: It was a lot. It was very entertaining.
- 21:06Speaker 3: When we were seeing the locker room before he did
- 21:08Speaker 3: that one on one, I really thought, like, Will's gonna
- 21:11Speaker 3: get him, Will's gonna I started to believe it when
- 21:14Speaker 3: he was putting the patch.
- 21:15Speaker 2: I'm sure he was.
- 21:17Speaker 1: I'm dropping quotes, I'm sniffing the smelling sauce, like six
- 21:21Speaker 1: smelling salts.
- 21:22Speaker 3: In a in a bottle of water, bottle of water.
- 21:24Speaker 1: We're just like pumping it.
- 21:25Speaker 3: I'm doing it too. I want to be a part
- 21:27Speaker 3: of the vibe. He's yelling at some security guard. Made
- 21:30Speaker 3: your heart turn black. And the guy's like, what the fuck.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Is going on? Children?
- 21:36Speaker 3: He runs out. I'm like this Ude's about to show
- 21:38Speaker 3: that he still got it.
- 21:41Speaker 2: That was a very humb moment.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Huh yeah, Yeah. I thought I was going to take
- 21:44Speaker 1: the young buck, and I was like, man, I's telling
- 21:47Speaker 1: Coach Landing. I was like, I hate to end your
- 21:49Speaker 1: running backs career right here. He can't get beat by
- 21:51Speaker 1: this thirty five year old in Missouri on Missouri.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Yeah, God, it's tough to know when it's over. What
- 21:57Speaker 3: do you look at yourself in the mirror and be like,
- 21:59Speaker 3: once upon a time I could do X, Y and Z,
- 22:01Speaker 3: but now I can't.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Yeah, what was that like for you?
- 22:03Speaker 2: Okay, here we go.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Everybody loves outlaws like that.
- 22:11Speaker 1: You he tagged my athleticism. Let's talk about when yours ended.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Well, I'm like the line from Rudy. I'm five ft nothing,
- 22:23Speaker 2: one hundred and nothing. So I just I didn't have
- 22:26Speaker 2: the same opportunities. I don't think.
- 22:29Speaker 3: All right, So you're blaming you're blaming on miserable.
- 22:32Speaker 2: I'm just saying that you're blaming God, blaming God. I'm
- 22:35Speaker 2: blaming my mom messed up.
- 22:38Speaker 3: A guy like You're in Target and some guy comes
- 22:40Speaker 3: up to you. Man, if I was your i'd be
- 22:42Speaker 3: a PROBA player.
- 22:43Speaker 1: You know, he says it to everybody.
- 22:45Speaker 3: In practice, he's thinking to himself, Man, if you know when.
- 22:47Speaker 2: I was getting recruited in college, everybody would tell me
- 22:50Speaker 2: that if you were six to everybody in the country
- 22:53Speaker 2: be recruiting you. And I'm like, well, I'm not, so
- 22:55Speaker 2: you were?
- 22:55Speaker 1: Were you a beast in high school? Like like that
- 22:59Speaker 1: he was student?
- 23:00Speaker 2: I was. I would say I was a good high
- 23:02Speaker 2: school player. I mean I was good enough to play
- 23:05Speaker 2: in Division two football. I walked on at Western Michigan
- 23:07Speaker 2: and realized that it was going to be a lot
- 23:10Speaker 2: of years sitting there before and if that day would
- 23:13Speaker 2: ever come to to get on the field. I actually
- 23:16Speaker 2: was playing receiver at Western. We had when I was leaving,
- 23:19Speaker 2: Greg Jennings was coming in, so I would have I
- 23:24Speaker 2: would approbad.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Then what was the experience? Like you said, people bring
- 23:27Speaker 1: up the Omaha beef Like.
- 23:30Speaker 2: I was on Dan Patrick yesterday he brought it up.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Oh did he really? Yeah, that'd beef?
- 23:36Speaker 1: Like what is how long did you play there?
- 23:38Speaker 2: I mean, honestly it was so. I was a grad
- 23:41Speaker 2: assistant at Central Michigan and I can't believe they actually
- 23:45Speaker 2: let me leave. Like in today's world, that never would
- 23:47Speaker 2: have happened. But I got a phone call saying, hey,
- 23:51Speaker 2: you want to come play for the summer for this
- 23:55Speaker 2: indoor football team in Oman, And I was like, all right,
- 23:58Speaker 2: I'll check receiver. No, I was quarterback, so you obviously
- 24:03Speaker 2: haven't done your research on me.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Well, yeah, that's all right, we get to learn.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a good pod. So I played quarterback at
- 24:09Speaker 2: when I transferred from Western too Sagona Valley. I ended
- 24:12Speaker 2: up playing quarterback for three years there. But so I
- 24:17Speaker 2: go to Omaha, and you know I really would I
- 24:20Speaker 2: wasn't even the starter there. I just had gone into
- 24:22Speaker 2: a couple of games and did did pretty well. And
- 24:27Speaker 2: that's I only played a couple of games there though,
- 24:29Speaker 2: So it was a very The next year, the Billings
- 24:33Speaker 2: Outlaws called and I went out there, and this was insane.
- 24:37Speaker 2: So I went to a team who the court, the
- 24:41Speaker 2: starting quarterback was also the play caller. Well, he tore
- 24:45Speaker 2: his ACL so he couldn't play, and he had played
- 24:48Speaker 2: in a game against me the year before and I
- 24:50Speaker 2: did pretty well in it and wanted me to come out.
- 24:53Speaker 2: The team I went to was undefeated and I get
- 24:57Speaker 2: there and I throw four picks and I thought I
- 25:00Speaker 2: was going to get my ass kicked. After the game,
- 25:02Speaker 2: everybody's looking at me. I'd been there like for two days,
- 25:05Speaker 2: and I thought these guys were going to fuck me up.
- 25:08Speaker 2: So it was a pretty intense deal. And the next week,
- 25:11Speaker 2: ironically enough, we went and played in Omaha and ended
- 25:14Speaker 2: up went in like uh an I f L player
- 25:18Speaker 2: of the Week.
- 25:19Speaker 1: No ship.
- 25:23Speaker 2: I mean, so, but why were they? Why was there
- 25:27Speaker 2: for four weeks? And I was like, I got to
- 25:29Speaker 2: get out of here. It was just kind of a
- 25:31Speaker 2: renegade league. There were these were there were some talented
- 25:33Speaker 2: guys in that league, but there was a lot of
- 25:37Speaker 2: reasons they didn't play in Probably the biggest of stages.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:41Speaker 3: I mean in Nashville is this this team called the
- 25:44Speaker 3: Nashville Cats, and they're just at lipscumb right now training
- 25:47Speaker 3: and I see like these offensive linemen that have like
- 25:49Speaker 3: gray in their hair. I'm thinking, what are you all chasing?
- 25:51Speaker 2: Yeah, you're well, I did it. I did it for
- 25:53Speaker 2: two summers. And I was like, all right, I'm I'm
- 25:56Speaker 2: full time coach.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Yeah, why were they? Why is there by taking it
- 26:00Speaker 1: so serious? And where they wanted to whoop your ass
- 26:02Speaker 1: when you were just there two days like, how much
- 26:05Speaker 1: are you guys getting paid?
- 26:07Speaker 2: Oh, like I think I got five hundred bucks. It
- 26:10Speaker 2: was like two fifty plus.
- 26:12Speaker 1: You know, you know he's not getting rehab incentives. Yeah, yeah,
- 26:16Speaker 1: you know the quarterback, he just tore his acl and
- 26:18Speaker 1: he just hasn't He's got like a brace stack of bills.
- 26:22Speaker 2: No, I was just hanging onto the dream.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Hanging on into the dream. Yeah, you obviously just hearing
- 26:27Speaker 3: your You grew up your entire life loving football.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:30Speaker 2: My dad was a coach and at Central Michigan University,
- 26:33Speaker 2: and so I've been around the game my whole life.
- 26:36Speaker 2: And my grandfather, my mom's dad, was a high school coach.
- 26:40Speaker 2: So just grew up around football and just loved it.
- 26:44Speaker 2: It was all about it, all about it.
- 26:45Speaker 3: And so when you're at like the Billings Outlaws and
- 26:47Speaker 3: you're like kind of bouncing around on your sackingaw, you
- 26:50Speaker 3: get fired from Washington, and then you had a point
- 26:52Speaker 3: where you were at the Falcons right quarterback coach, and
- 26:55Speaker 3: then you went to Notre Dame for a year.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Well, so we get fired from Washington and I well,
- 27:00Speaker 2: I mean, you talk about the loneliest time of your
- 27:03Speaker 2: life when you have no idea what you're going to
- 27:05Speaker 2: do next, and I've got two young kids and my wife.
- 27:11Speaker 2: But had I worked for Brian Kelly at Central Muscian
- 27:14Speaker 2: University and it was lucky and fortunate enough to go there.
- 27:18Speaker 2: So I spent the fourteen season at Notre Dame and
- 27:21Speaker 2: then Kyle in the meantime was going to go with
- 27:25Speaker 2: dan Quinn to Atlanta. And he called me up and
- 27:28Speaker 2: he was leaving Cleveland and that debacle that he had there.
- 27:32Speaker 2: My brother was actually working for him, and he called
- 27:35Speaker 2: me up and he's like, hey, I want you to
- 27:37Speaker 2: come to Atlanta. I was like, dude, I got a
- 27:39Speaker 2: great job. I was like, my brother's out of a
- 27:42Speaker 2: job because you guys are leaving Cleveland. I said, I'm
- 27:45Speaker 2: not taking that job if he can't get a job,
- 27:49Speaker 2: and he goes, I'm going to get you both. So
- 27:51Speaker 2: what a cool opportunity for me to go work with
- 27:54Speaker 2: my brother in Atlanta. And the first year was a
- 27:56Speaker 2: little rough because Kyle's pretty hard on his coaches in
- 27:59Speaker 2: a good way because I think it prepares you and
- 28:02Speaker 2: it brings out the best in you. But he was
- 28:06Speaker 2: hard on my brother and I was probably twice as
- 28:08Speaker 2: hard as my brother. So there was some some rough
- 28:10Speaker 2: moments in there in twenty fifteen.
- 28:13Speaker 1: What are those? You got to have some stories with,
- 28:16Speaker 1: like whether it's a text after a game or a
- 28:18Speaker 1: group chat, like these coaches that you've grown and they're
- 28:21Speaker 1: all in their own head coaching roles or the coordinator roles,
- 28:23Speaker 1: Like after a game when you get one on Shanahan mcveay,
- 28:27Speaker 1: your brother, there has to be some.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Type of communication right there is like you know, maybe
- 28:33Speaker 2: just like my brother is a guy that I'm going
- 28:34Speaker 2: to talk to after every game, win or lose. But
- 28:37Speaker 2: there's some games when, like when you lose a game,
- 28:41Speaker 2: it's a pretty miserable feeling, as you guys both know.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Because what people don't, I don't think really can understand
- 28:48Speaker 2: is how much time and effort and energy go into
- 28:51Speaker 2: a three hour window and like your all your work
- 28:55Speaker 2: is on display, and no matter how you prepared that week,
- 28:59Speaker 2: whether you had the best week of preparation or the worst,
- 29:02Speaker 2: all they care about is the outcome. So I think
- 29:06Speaker 2: like it's emotional right when you lose a game and
- 29:08Speaker 2: you're you're pissed off because you put so much time
- 29:11Speaker 2: into it. And so there's some games when we lose,
- 29:16Speaker 2: I don't want to talk to anybody, and I don't.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Throw you a little just a nice little condescending jab
- 29:25Speaker 1: like having fun, like yeah, you thought like he just
- 29:32Speaker 1: he goes in, he goes into La beats McVeigh and
- 29:34Speaker 1: he just shoots McVeagh a message.
- 29:35Speaker 2: No, no, they know they're on the bus.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Afterwards, ayah, you thought great to see you. Yeah, hey
- 29:39Speaker 1: you said this in the press this week, that work
- 29:41Speaker 1: out material.
- 29:45Speaker 2: There's none of that.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I've never had an exchange like that with with anybody
- 29:48Speaker 1: close down.
- 29:49Speaker 2: I mean, you might have some of those conversations amongst
- 29:52Speaker 2: your staff, but not none with the competitive I don't
- 29:56Speaker 2: think so. It's kind of what's that kind of bush league?
- 29:59Speaker 1: It was like for you if I was a head
- 30:00Speaker 1: coach and I beat you, I feel like I throw
- 30:02Speaker 1: you something, Yeah, like maybe shoot you the eyes of Moji.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Yeah, hey, not bad.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Huh.
- 30:09Speaker 2: That's why that that's what almost led to the from
- 30:14Speaker 2: what I heard, the hardballs Schwartz. Remember that interaction, Yeah,
- 30:18Speaker 2: the handshaking, the slop on the back, that's right, Jim, right, Yeah,
- 30:23Speaker 2: remember when Schwartz ran him down.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Have you had an aggressive exchange postgame with a coach?
- 30:29Speaker 2: I wouldn't say aggressive, but there's been some I would say,
- 30:33Speaker 2: contentious moments where you know.
- 30:36Speaker 3: You want to say names.
- 30:37Speaker 2: No, Yeah, I was gonna say, yeah, that was a
- 30:42Speaker 2: bad deal. The pregame with a fan is a bad deal.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Yeah, what what happened there? I mean that was a
- 30:47Speaker 1: pretty that was going around the internet.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I would imagine there was after this fan. Well,
- 30:54Speaker 2: it's just so this guy was walking, you know, like
- 30:57Speaker 2: usually there's some healthy banner sometimes with some of those
- 31:00Speaker 2: guys that are holding the flag getting ready for the
- 31:03Speaker 2: national anthem, and I mean this guy's like throat slashing
- 31:07Speaker 2: our players. And I could see our bunch of our
- 31:08Speaker 2: players getting worked up, and I'm like, what that this
- 31:12Speaker 2: guy's in our space. It's different when it's coming from
- 31:15Speaker 2: the stands, right and got You expect that people are
- 31:18Speaker 2: going to talk. You're you're in enemy territory. You know
- 31:22Speaker 2: they're going to talk, trash you. You don't even hear
- 31:24Speaker 2: that noise, it's just noise. But when you're in our space,
- 31:28Speaker 2: on our field and you're doing this in front of
- 31:31Speaker 2: our guys and riling them up. I got a problem
- 31:34Speaker 2: with that. So I said something. He said something back,
- 31:38Speaker 2: and I was like, is this really happening right now
- 31:41Speaker 2: as we're walking towards each other. So it was just
- 31:45Speaker 2: one of those.
- 31:45Speaker 3: Are you thinking at any point I might have to swing?
- 31:48Speaker 2: I didn't know what was going to happen, to be
- 31:50Speaker 2: honest with you, Yeah, but I got to give the
- 31:52Speaker 2: officials a lot of credit. One of the officials came
- 31:54Speaker 2: in and just kind of side checked the guy pretty
- 31:58Speaker 2: pretty good. I was pretty impressed. But it's it should
- 32:02Speaker 2: never happen. It should never happen, And like you know,
- 32:05Speaker 2: you always reflect on what you could have done that differently.
- 32:09Speaker 2: It Preace would have just ignored it, but you know,
- 32:12Speaker 2: the heat of the battle.
- 32:13Speaker 3: Yeah, but if you're talking about you spend a whole
- 32:14Speaker 3: week preparing, getting the guys ready. You're looking to your
- 32:17Speaker 3: your top twenty five plays, you're bringing to the guys
- 32:19Speaker 3: on Saturday. You're giving a speech. Now you're setting up
- 32:21Speaker 3: everyone's anxiety to the roof the peak. Anxiety is always
- 32:24Speaker 3: a national anthem. You're wondering, am I is this the
- 32:26Speaker 3: day I finally get got Your confidence is high low,
- 32:29Speaker 3: all these different things, and then you got some guy
- 32:33Speaker 3: who has the luxury of holding our nation's flag for
- 32:36Speaker 3: the national anthem, and he's doing a bunch of shit.
- 32:39Speaker 3: I'm sure, Like logically, it's like you handled it fine, well,
- 32:43Speaker 3: appreciate shut up, Like obviously you take all those things you.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Put tattletale, How crazy is that? Were you there for that?
- 32:51Speaker 3: Did you hear that part? The tattletoe thing?
- 32:55Speaker 2: We just talked about it.
- 32:56Speaker 3: I know, but I'm saying, were you in the room
- 32:57Speaker 3: when that happened?
- 32:58Speaker 2: I can't remember that civic card. No, no, we're having
- 33:03Speaker 2: a moment. No, no, hey he said that.
- 33:06Speaker 1: I was like, oh, ship, we got and we didn't
- 33:10Speaker 1: start the play.
- 33:11Speaker 3: If I told if I told the Tetale story, no, no,
- 33:13Speaker 3: no cespn I was, so I jumped to were you
- 33:21Speaker 3: in the room when that happened? I was reflecting back
- 33:23Speaker 3: on the beginners.
- 33:24Speaker 2: I think I was focused on trying to like just
- 33:27Speaker 2: get a first down at that point, and I saw
- 33:29Speaker 2: the commotion.
- 33:30Speaker 3: Yeah, the commotion. From a coaching standpoint, you talk about
- 33:35Speaker 3: the week and the process it takes. I feel like
- 33:37Speaker 3: every year of a couple of years, there's always one
- 33:39Speaker 3: game where the coaches come in the next week and
- 33:41Speaker 3: they're like, I knew this was going to happen because
- 33:43Speaker 3: there a lack of preparation. The week before, like you
- 33:46Speaker 3: lose a game and it's like you could tell the
- 33:48Speaker 3: boys weren't focused up. How do you work through the
- 33:51Speaker 3: process when you see maybe your team is in as
- 33:53Speaker 3: focused as you liked to be going into a week.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Well, you try to get in front of that if
- 34:00Speaker 2: if you feel it some type of way in the moment,
- 34:03Speaker 2: I'm gonna I'm gonna say it like hey man, we
- 34:05Speaker 2: better lock in or we're about to get our ass beat.
- 34:08Speaker 2: So you try to stay in front of it. But
- 34:13Speaker 2: I've also experienced when I don't think we've had the
- 34:16Speaker 2: cleanest of practices where we've gone out and had a
- 34:20Speaker 2: kick ass game, and vice versa where we've had great
- 34:23Speaker 2: practices and we go out there and land eggs. So
- 34:26Speaker 2: you know, you try to take it for what is
- 34:28Speaker 2: what it is and just hope our guys are balling
- 34:33Speaker 2: on Sundays.
- 34:34Speaker 1: We were trying to get some some pregame speeches out
- 34:36Speaker 1: of Josh last night, but he was saying, you play
- 34:39Speaker 1: to your strengths. Well, like you have your words, you
- 34:42Speaker 1: have your things that you hit them before the game,
- 34:44Speaker 1: but then you kind of let the players say whatever
- 34:46Speaker 1: they need to say because we're trying to be like,
- 34:48Speaker 1: how's this speech game? How's his motivational speeches? He did
- 34:50Speaker 1: say you spit fire after you guys win games. All right,
- 34:53Speaker 1: he said, you always got some nice bars when you
- 34:55Speaker 1: come in the locker room and you say whatever you say.
- 34:57Speaker 1: But he was giving you some flowers. Okay, we're looking
- 35:00Speaker 1: for some funny moments.
- 35:01Speaker 2: But because yeah, I think I'm more a little bit
- 35:03Speaker 2: more serious probably, And I mean, you guys have been
- 35:07Speaker 2: around me, won't you say so?
- 35:09Speaker 1: Yeah? But you as the head coach, I haven't been
- 35:10Speaker 1: around it. Some some guys go. Some guys like flip
- 35:13Speaker 1: a different switch when they go from coordinator position coach
- 35:16Speaker 1: and then one day.
- 35:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel like the NFL too. I've never really
- 35:21Speaker 3: been around coaches that like get the boys hyped up.
- 35:23Speaker 3: It's more like, you know, this is a job, this
- 35:25Speaker 3: is your process, Like these are the keys to victory.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Onward, John Grude will get your pits hot?
- 35:30Speaker 3: Really yeah, because Rabel the coolest thing. Yeah See, I
- 35:37Speaker 3: had a high school head coach, Charlie Ragel, who would
- 35:39Speaker 3: literally make you run through a fucking wall with a speech.
- 35:41Speaker 3: But after that it was kind of just like you
- 35:44Speaker 3: go play the game and play well, that's what we
- 35:46Speaker 3: do here? Fuck, all right, guess that's what we're doing.
- 35:49Speaker 3: What was it like for you calling places for the
- 35:51Speaker 3: first time, the first time, having a shoot in your hand?
- 35:54Speaker 3: The game is yours, it's your chessboard.
- 35:57Speaker 2: Well, the first time, I want to say, the first
- 35:59Speaker 2: time I ever called plays was in the stadium here. Yeah,
- 36:05Speaker 2: Sean had me it was back in It would have
- 36:09Speaker 2: been twenty seventeen with the Rams. It was a preseason game.
- 36:13Speaker 2: He's like, all right, you're calling it today. I was like,
- 36:16Speaker 2: all right, And it was a fun experience. That's in
- 36:20Speaker 2: the National Football League. I had called plays, you know,
- 36:24Speaker 2: at Ashland University back in the day, but in the
- 36:28Speaker 2: National Football League, I think it was right here. And
- 36:30Speaker 2: then I want to say that our year together in
- 36:33Speaker 2: twenty eighteen, didn't we open up the preseason here as well? Yeah,
- 36:39Speaker 2: so it's kind of ironic how it all comes full circle. Yeah,
- 36:43Speaker 2: but that first year in twenty eighteen of really especially
- 36:48Speaker 2: you get into the regular season, I realized quickly it
- 36:53Speaker 2: can be a lonely world, especially when sh ain't going right.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Do you remember the Baltimore Raven game and we got
- 36:58Speaker 2: absolutely trashed something like that. Yeah, it was eleven Okay,
- 37:04Speaker 2: we had like one hundred and twenty yards or I
- 37:07Speaker 2: don't even know. That might be generous of total offense.
- 37:10Speaker 2: And the whole stadium is booing your offense every time
- 37:13Speaker 2: you go out on the field and lonely man, it's
- 37:16Speaker 2: it's a I'm like, hey, is anybody got any suggestions?
- 37:19Speaker 2: And it's straight crickets on the headset.
- 37:22Speaker 3: When you know, except for those guys here in the
- 37:25Speaker 3: anybody got suggestions?
- 37:26Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I'm just saying nothing's working, so does somebody
- 37:30Speaker 2: else have a better idea? And that that that kind
- 37:32Speaker 2: of happens naturally in games. It's it's funny, you know,
- 37:37Speaker 2: when things are really rolling, everybody has an idea, but
- 37:39Speaker 2: when things aren't going good, it's crickets. Yeah, So like.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Shit, I'll not put my ass on the line right.
- 37:47Speaker 3: When games gets games like the Ravens games aren't going well,
- 37:50Speaker 3: At what point do you just say, hey, let's pack
- 37:52Speaker 3: it in, We're going to run the ball and get
- 37:53Speaker 3: out of here.
- 37:55Speaker 2: I just don't have that mentality, really. I mean, don't
- 37:58Speaker 2: get me wrong, there's been games, especially I know here,
- 38:01Speaker 2: where you're like, you know, the game is over and
- 38:06Speaker 2: you just don't want to get anybody hurt, so you
- 38:08Speaker 2: do kind of resort to that. But you know, I
- 38:14Speaker 2: also think that there's sometimes if you're getting your butt
- 38:18Speaker 2: whipped and you want to get some momentum to try
- 38:22Speaker 2: to get something going maybe for the next week, so
- 38:27Speaker 2: maybe the guys give the boys a little confidence.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Yeah, this in football, it's such a relationships driven business,
- 38:36Speaker 1: but also at the end of the day, it is
- 38:38Speaker 1: just a business with your journey and coaching. Would have
- 38:41Speaker 1: been a couple of conversations that have been the hardest
- 38:44Speaker 1: to have, whether you've gotten fired and been caught off
- 38:47Speaker 1: guard about it from somebody that you didn't think it
- 38:49Speaker 1: would come from, or maybe you're leaving a situation and
- 38:52Speaker 1: you're going into that you're going into that the coach's
- 38:56Speaker 1: office to tell him, or you've even let somebody go
- 38:59Speaker 1: as a head coach, like would have been a couple
- 39:01Speaker 1: of your hardest moments or conversations with somebody, or even
- 39:06Speaker 1: again you might be on the receiving end. But I
- 39:08Speaker 1: would love to know because we have a head coach
- 39:11Speaker 1: on and I'm always curious because you know how it
- 39:13Speaker 1: is like when you get cut and you might be blindsided.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Well, I don't know. I don't know. I never played
- 39:17Speaker 2: in the.
- 39:17Speaker 1: N I'm saying getting fired, it's like getting fired, yeah, right,
- 39:21Speaker 1: like everybody gets fired. So and sometimes it comes out
- 39:24Speaker 1: of nowhere, or sometimes you're having a conversation with somebody,
- 39:26Speaker 1: whether you're getting benched, and it comes out of nowhere,
- 39:28Speaker 1: and you feel a little slighted and bitter because of
- 39:31Speaker 1: the relationship you feel like you have. But and it's
- 39:33Speaker 1: hard to compartmentalize and separate the business from the relationship
- 39:36Speaker 1: at times. But I would love to know as a
- 39:38Speaker 1: head coach and knowing that you've been in a lot
- 39:39Speaker 1: of different spots there with friends too.
- 39:42Speaker 2: Yeah, And that's that's the danger is when you go
- 39:46Speaker 2: through something together, especially something hard together, you form a
- 39:50Speaker 2: bond with somebody and then at some point that comes
- 39:54Speaker 2: to end and end for all players and for me
- 39:58Speaker 2: when I have to let go of coaches that guys
- 40:01Speaker 2: that have poured everything into it and for whatever reason
- 40:04Speaker 2: it doesn't work out. And that it's always the danger
- 40:07Speaker 2: of hiring people that are close to you as well.
- 40:11Speaker 2: I mean, I mean this well known I let Joe
- 40:15Speaker 2: Barry go, who's a very dear friend of mine, and
- 40:18Speaker 2: that that was like one of the toughest conversations I've
- 40:20Speaker 2: ever had with somebody.
- 40:22Speaker 1: So how do you even prepare for that? Like it's
- 40:24Speaker 1: like you can't sit.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Here, he could give you any You can't prepare for it.
- 40:30Speaker 2: You just you just That's why you just got to
- 40:33Speaker 2: tell people the truth and whatever happens happens, but at
- 40:37Speaker 2: least your truth how you see it. And that's why
- 40:42Speaker 2: I just think you've got to be honest with people.
- 40:44Speaker 2: And it happens with players. When you have, especially veteran players,
- 40:48Speaker 2: you might maybe aren't performing to the level that you
- 40:53Speaker 2: feel like they should be performing at and you're going
- 40:55Speaker 2: to make a change and set them down. And I
- 40:58Speaker 2: mean those are those are off conversations, but conversations that
- 41:03Speaker 2: you absolutely have to have that you can't avoid.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Has any conversation with sideways, You don't have to say names,
- 41:08Speaker 1: but if you have, is there any sideways? Yeah, we're
- 41:11Speaker 1: a conversation.
- 41:11Speaker 2: Yeah, there's been a few.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Really, Oh yeah, standing up, getting your face a little bit.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Oh yeah. I've had a player a couple of years back.
- 41:21Speaker 2: It was just him and I and this is before
- 41:24Speaker 2: we had we renovated our offense offices and we're in
- 41:28Speaker 2: a different spot at the stadium now, But I mean
- 41:31Speaker 2: we're in this center block room. I thought he's gonna
- 41:34Speaker 2: whip my ass and there was nobody around, so I
- 41:39Speaker 2: was just like, oh, well here here it goes. Guys,
- 41:42Speaker 2: this is this is the end, This is it, this
- 41:45Speaker 2: is it, and you just try to de escalate the situation.
- 41:49Speaker 2: But sometimes there's no getting through. And it was one
- 41:52Speaker 2: of those situations. So but I'm still here today, so
- 41:57Speaker 2: I lived to tell about it. He put his hands
- 42:00Speaker 2: on you, it was I thought it might go down,
- 42:04Speaker 2: but that didn't.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Does he get there because he's like, you say, we're
- 42:10Speaker 1: going to want ever let you go, and he's just like, no, you're.
- 42:12Speaker 2: Not show Definitely, I would say everyone's a little bit different,
- 42:22Speaker 2: but yeah, there's.
- 42:24Speaker 1: You.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Just the one thing I've learned, the more you can
- 42:27Speaker 2: take emotion out of any conflict, and you can use
- 42:30Speaker 2: this in your personal lives as well, like I know
- 42:33Speaker 2: with my wife, the more I can take the emotion
- 42:36Speaker 2: out of it, usually the better the conversation goes.
- 42:40Speaker 1: Yeah, that advice, but sometimes they want the emotion. They're like, hey,
- 42:45Speaker 1: what are you feeling well? So maybe you want the emotion.
- 42:50Speaker 3: Maybe you did something you want to talk about.
- 42:53Speaker 1: I guess I'm feeling shame.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Why.
- 42:55Speaker 1: I'm just trying to think of the words, the seven
- 42:58Speaker 1: words feelings, seven emotions that you can feel. But there
- 43:02Speaker 1: his tres value in you know they're like, oh, confusion,
- 43:05Speaker 1: that's not a feeling, that's a thought. I hate that.
- 43:09Speaker 2: That's deep.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:13Speaker 3: Yeah, getting cuts not fun. How times were you cut?
- 43:18Speaker 1: That's the squad Titans Raiders three. That's not bad.
- 43:29Speaker 3: I think as you were almost on every team, I feel.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Like it has more. Yeah, well, it's like he was
- 43:34Speaker 2: almost a green Bay packer.
- 43:37Speaker 3: Bro Was he actually almost Green Bay packer? You guys
- 43:46Speaker 3: brought up his get brought up in a meeting room.
- 43:49Speaker 2: Yeah, we talked about him.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Man, it was Lafleur's first year.
- 43:55Speaker 2: I had I had no I had no sea.
- 43:57Speaker 1: He had no he he couldn't swing to bat, but
- 43:59Speaker 1: he wanted to. I don't know how much it happened,
- 44:02Speaker 1: but I think you're one to like he's you were saying,
- 44:05Speaker 1: this is when I ended up going to the Saints
- 44:07Speaker 1: in Oakland that year, But he wanted to go into
- 44:10Speaker 1: a meeting. I think pitch a few veterans. It was
- 44:12Speaker 1: like myself, I think Chris Thompson, if I can remember correctly.
- 44:17Speaker 2: It's amazing what people do remember though, right because I
- 44:20Speaker 2: wanted this and sometimes they remember a little bit different
- 44:23Speaker 2: than you remember. But you don't remember that way. Wow,
- 44:27Speaker 2: I mean that was a long time ago.
- 44:29Speaker 1: Text me.
- 44:30Speaker 3: That's Mad's way of saying, no, he does not remember.
- 44:32Speaker 1: Well. He can even say like, I mean he already
- 44:35Speaker 1: said like it wasn't close, like even when I was
- 44:36Speaker 1: going and worked out with the Saints and ended up
- 44:38Speaker 1: signing with the Saints because Ko was here, like it
- 44:40Speaker 1: was just set up that was it would have been
- 44:43Speaker 1: lovely for the boy, and.
- 44:44Speaker 2: It would have been great because I know he's he's
- 44:48Speaker 2: about the right stuff.
- 44:50Speaker 1: I appreciate that.
- 44:52Speaker 3: That's that's it seems like the Will Compton, like every
- 44:55Speaker 3: coach you talked to, it's been to come across school
- 44:56Speaker 3: confidence like that.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Is the guy, because otherwise he wouldn't have lasted as
- 45:00Speaker 2: long as he lasted if you wouldn't have been about
- 45:03Speaker 2: the right compliment.
- 45:04Speaker 1: But no, he's right.
- 45:06Speaker 2: But that's it's like I told you earlier. Sometimes you
- 45:10Speaker 2: know you just got to go with the truth.
- 45:11Speaker 1: Ye yes, yeah, that's something. I'm proud of it that
- 45:15Speaker 1: he doesn't feel like a backhanded compliment.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Okay, you should be proud of it. Yeah, yeah, I
- 45:19Speaker 2: played a long time in this leep. Was it almost ten?
- 45:21Speaker 1: Almost ten? Almost ten?
- 45:24Speaker 3: Some argue eight.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Prable argues eight because he doesn't give me the practice
- 45:28Speaker 1: squad or he says the first year was a practice
- 45:30Speaker 1: squad year. I was like, bro, the last game of
- 45:33Speaker 1: the season. This was in thirteen. Yeah, when we were
- 45:35Speaker 1: at New York was London Fletcher's last game. I got
- 45:37Speaker 1: the backup London Fletcher for his final game of all time.
- 45:40Speaker 1: But that's when I got to I was on the
- 45:42Speaker 1: active roster for one game recorded once that got one
- 45:44Speaker 1: tackle and kickoff. So I am in the books for
- 45:47Speaker 1: that rookie year. Now if you go by the credited
- 45:50Speaker 1: and everything else, like yeah, I mean.
- 45:52Speaker 2: I gotta give it to a practice squad. To me,
- 45:56Speaker 2: that counts. I'm counting it.
- 45:59Speaker 1: Count he see. Yeah, up all the time with Jordan
- 46:01Speaker 1: Reed it was brutal.
- 46:03Speaker 3: So wait, does it actually in the in the real
- 46:05Speaker 3: world does that You got the credited season though.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Right, So since I'm vested, they count your practice squad year.
- 46:10Speaker 3: Okay, I bet you know. I don't want to bring
- 46:13Speaker 3: will and I got into a whole thing. I was
- 46:14Speaker 3: making a joke one time about eight things got a
- 46:16Speaker 3: little fiery, and I started basically did all the things
- 46:19Speaker 3: he just said to you, but in a very demonstrative way. Understandably,
- 46:22Speaker 3: I was trying to poke the bear a little bit.
- 46:24Speaker 3: But right then and there, I was like, I don't
- 46:25Speaker 3: know if so, does it actually count it?
- 46:27Speaker 1: So the moment you get vested like it was four years. Yeah,
- 46:30Speaker 1: once you get four years, then they go back and
- 46:32Speaker 1: count one practice squad year. So say I had two
- 46:35Speaker 1: practice squad years, like Lorenzo Alexander was somebody he played
- 46:39Speaker 1: like fourteen years and he started off to practice squad years.
- 46:42Speaker 2: They only give they only give credit for well, they only.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Give you credit for one.
- 46:46Speaker 3: Have you ever been in a situation the kind of
- 46:47Speaker 3: like Will was and where coaches are kind of being like,
- 46:49Speaker 3: I need to get this guy three games to get
- 46:51Speaker 3: him a credit and season. Have you ever had a
- 46:54Speaker 3: sip with your guy where were like, all right, we'll
- 46:55Speaker 3: get him dialed or we'll give him a shot. We'll
- 46:57Speaker 3: see if we can make.
- 46:58Speaker 2: It work for three weeks, not not too many, no.
- 47:02Speaker 3: No, but it's come across once in a while.
- 47:04Speaker 2: That's how it was with Pisacia but we'll never you know,
- 47:08Speaker 2: we were always going to do what's best for the team,
- 47:12Speaker 2: so as you.
- 47:13Speaker 3: Should love everybody.
- 47:16Speaker 1: No, I know. Yeah, It's like even when we were
- 47:18Speaker 1: trying to get year ten to happen, it was like
- 47:19Speaker 1: I was telling her, you just give me three weeks.
- 47:21Speaker 2: I guess.
- 47:24Speaker 1: But what how I was going to finish his thing off?
- 47:26Speaker 1: How I wasn't close to becoming a packer, Like even
- 47:28Speaker 1: when the Saints came in the hotel room and they
- 47:30Speaker 1: gave me the contract to sign and had me mulled
- 47:32Speaker 1: over for that night, because I remember being on the
- 47:33Speaker 1: phone with you too, called my wife called you guys,
- 47:35Speaker 1: I low key, I was like kind of struggling if
- 47:37Speaker 1: I even wanted to do it.
- 47:39Speaker 2: But I remember calling broke some conversations.
- 47:42Speaker 1: I swear to God, I will get on a plane
- 47:44Speaker 1: right now and go to Green Bay and play for
- 47:47Speaker 1: you guys, if if I can get it off, if
- 47:50Speaker 1: we can get it off from the table, or if
- 47:51Speaker 1: you can do anything like seeing.
- 47:53Speaker 2: I think I straight up with you, Yeah, you.
- 47:55Speaker 1: Were, You're like, man, it's not gonna happen. You need
- 47:57Speaker 1: to you need to go ahead and take that, Like
- 48:00Speaker 1: is just not a whole lot that I'm able to do.
- 48:02Speaker 1: But yeah, I was one too.
- 48:03Speaker 2: I was trying hard to get number fifty one. What
- 48:06Speaker 2: could have been did he did you that conversation?
- 48:08Speaker 3: Like immediately like what he called you? Did you know
- 48:09Speaker 3: what was coming?
- 48:11Speaker 2: Or was he yeah? Blinds we were in communication training.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Camp, but hey, you in shape?
- 48:16Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 48:17Speaker 3: Okay, so there was you didn't blindside him with the conversation.
- 48:19Speaker 1: That was just no, yeah, yeah, yeah, like we were.
- 48:22Speaker 1: I think we got on the phone and we were again,
- 48:23Speaker 1: are you in shape? And stuff like that. He might
- 48:25Speaker 1: have wanted to pitch a few veterans in a meeting
- 48:27Speaker 1: that was coming up, and then I would check in
- 48:29Speaker 1: either through him or Ko and like, Hey, what's the
- 48:32Speaker 1: what's the skinny? Ko be like, man, I don't even
- 48:34Speaker 1: go out to the workouts. And then when the same
- 48:37Speaker 1: thing happened, I was like, so are you sure nothing
- 48:40Speaker 1: can shape up with the Green Bay Packers? He's like nah, Man,
- 48:46Speaker 1: I would have been I kind of selfishly want you,
- 48:48Speaker 1: but yeah, working out. It would have been fun.
- 48:51Speaker 3: Talk to me about your process of getting this job,
- 48:53Speaker 3: because we I don't know how much you were to
- 48:55Speaker 3: talk about what we were talking about before the podcast
- 48:56Speaker 3: started twenty eighteen year with the Titians and then all
- 49:00Speaker 3: of a sudden, it's like you're You're with the Packers.
- 49:02Speaker 3: And it was like I remember myself thinking like, damn,
- 49:06Speaker 3: I was bummed out that you were gone. I ended
- 49:08Speaker 3: up being happy because.
- 49:09Speaker 2: Yeah, Art, Yeah, they Drap's made a great decision in
- 49:12Speaker 2: promoting Art. Yeah. It was one of those deals where
- 49:17Speaker 2: I got a call after the season. If you remember right,
- 49:20Speaker 2: we had a play in game to make the playoffs,
- 49:22Speaker 2: unfortunately against the Colts and it didn't go our way.
- 49:28Speaker 2: But I got a call that I was going to
- 49:30Speaker 2: interview for this job, and I knew I was the
- 49:33Speaker 2: last interview and I was like, all right, well, shoot,
- 49:35Speaker 2: I got nothing to lose, and I'm pretty I'm pretty
- 49:40Speaker 2: hard on myself anyways, and I went through the interview process.
- 49:43Speaker 2: Matter of fact, the Packers flew up to Nashville. I
- 49:47Speaker 2: had the interview at a hotel in Nashville, and I
- 49:50Speaker 2: called my wife right after and she's like, well, how
- 49:53Speaker 2: to go? And I was like, I think it went
- 49:54Speaker 2: pretty well, and she says that's the moment she thought like,
- 49:59Speaker 2: oh no, here we go. The next day, I get
- 50:03Speaker 2: a phone call from Aaron Rodgers and I'm like, that's interesting,
- 50:08Speaker 2: And I was actually thinking that it would be lead
- 50:11Speaker 2: to the second round of interviews, being that I've never
- 50:16Speaker 2: really been up here. But they called me later that
- 50:20Speaker 2: afternoon and offered me the job, and it was. It
- 50:24Speaker 2: was a pretty unbelievable moment in my life, one that
- 50:29Speaker 2: I'll never forget.
- 50:30Speaker 3: What was that conversation like with Aaron Rodgers? Like did
- 50:32Speaker 3: it did you have his number saving your phone or
- 50:34Speaker 3: did this come up like a random number?
- 50:36Speaker 1: No, who's it? I had?
- 50:38Speaker 2: They had given me a heads up that Aaron was
- 50:40Speaker 2: probably going to be calling me at some point. He
- 50:42Speaker 2: called me, We talked for like, I don't know, forty
- 50:45Speaker 2: minutes or whatever, and it was. It was a great conversation. Obviously,
- 50:50Speaker 2: it went well enough where I think I'm sure he
- 50:53Speaker 2: reported back and said that we had a great conversation
- 50:55Speaker 2: and the rest is history.
- 50:57Speaker 1: How was that process like the conversation with the Titans,
- 51:01Speaker 1: Like when you're interviewing or looking to take on a
- 51:03Speaker 1: different job.
- 51:05Speaker 2: I was pretty easy. I'm saying, hey, guys, I'm I'm
- 51:08Speaker 2: leaving to be the head coach of the Green Bay Packers.
- 51:11Speaker 2: I think everybody understood that, So, yeah, it was. It was.
- 51:15Speaker 2: It was a very easy conversation, and I'm sure there
- 51:19Speaker 2: were some people in that building that were glad that
- 51:20Speaker 2: I was leaving too.
- 51:24Speaker 1: Makes it easier.
- 51:25Speaker 3: Yeah, God, I wish we would dip into that more.
- 51:29Speaker 3: What the just the coaches that that that inside ball
- 51:32Speaker 3: of the Titans and all that stuff that went down.
- 51:35Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like it's like the bureaucracy's everywhere, right, like everybody,
- 51:38Speaker 1: there's going to be haters on the inside. The little
- 51:42Speaker 1: I always loved how Ray would say, it's a loser talk.
- 51:44Speaker 1: You get guys get into their clicks, losers start talking
- 51:47Speaker 1: about the negative, YadA, YadA, YadA.
- 51:49Speaker 2: I feel like that's like, you know what my favorite
- 51:51Speaker 2: time with the Titans was. That was when Will Compton
- 51:54Speaker 2: did Mike Frable and the team meeting Halloween. That was
- 51:58Speaker 2: it was so spot on. It was unbelievable and.
- 52:01Speaker 3: It couldn't have come at a perfect time.
- 52:03Speaker 2: Because and I want to know who recorded that, Darren Bates, Oh, I.
- 52:07Speaker 1: Think it was Betsy Yeah, I think it was dB
- 52:10Speaker 1: Iraq pos Usually that.
- 52:12Speaker 2: Is kind of a rack, you know, you don't film
- 52:15Speaker 2: those those types of meetings.
- 52:18Speaker 1: Yeah, but I think we knew going into it. I
- 52:19Speaker 1: think rack or dB or somebody was saying, hell, they
- 52:21Speaker 1: were going to get recorded. Yeah, because I was nervous
- 52:25Speaker 1: like that. Yeah, because Wesley Woodre was kind of be like,
- 52:29Speaker 1: I don't know if you should do it, Like guys
- 52:31Speaker 1: could get like cutover stuff like this. Like he I
- 52:34Speaker 1: guess he had an experience maybe in Denver. It's where
- 52:36Speaker 1: somebody might have did something for the rookie. Yeah.
- 52:38Speaker 2: I didn't think it was I didn't think it was
- 52:40Speaker 2: disrespectful in any way.
- 52:42Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, no, I didn't think when you see when
- 52:44Speaker 1: you were about to do it, it's like you have
- 52:46Speaker 1: the the culture building that Rabel was doing. He did
- 52:48Speaker 1: a great job of like separating the you know, being
- 52:51Speaker 1: a players guy but also a coach and making sure
- 52:53Speaker 1: things ran strict and smooth to where you know he
- 52:56Speaker 1: was tired, like he was a hard ass at times,
- 52:58Speaker 1: especially in training camp kind of where the nerves are
- 53:01Speaker 1: coming from. Like, man, I hope you know he takes this.
- 53:06Speaker 2: Find it when we have a rookie skit. If they
- 53:08Speaker 2: don't clown on me a little bit, I'm usually disappointed.
- 53:11Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, you're thinking, what have I been doing and
- 53:14Speaker 1: not make these guys feel comfortable enough to joke on me.
- 53:16Speaker 2: Yeah, so I think you go into it with that
- 53:19Speaker 2: mindset he can't be sensitive.
- 53:21Speaker 1: It was a good It was a good time though.
- 53:23Speaker 1: We had some good.
- 53:23Speaker 2: Laughs that that was awesome.
- 53:25Speaker 3: But understanding your nerves for sure too, because like twenty eighteen,
- 53:27Speaker 3: Mike Vrabel was a different cat like and we were
- 53:29Speaker 3: all kind of just trying to figure him out. And
- 53:31Speaker 3: after practice and practices were hard. He was hard on us.
- 53:35Speaker 3: Those team meetings, buttles are tight every single camp.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Practicely, that was the one year and I've talked about
- 53:40Speaker 1: it before, but that was the one year where a
- 53:42Speaker 1: lot of the times I was not looking forward to
- 53:44Speaker 1: driving into work, like I would wake up and not
- 53:47Speaker 1: have the mentality I had. I was just watching before that,
- 53:50Speaker 1: but not have the I'd be like dreading going into work,
- 53:54Speaker 1: really dreading going into whatever the team meeting, whatever he
- 53:58Speaker 1: was going to do in the team meeting, and if
- 54:00Speaker 1: you lost, it just felt like the world was crumbling.
- 54:04Speaker 2: And usually, just in a lot of our experiences in
- 54:07Speaker 2: the National Football League, you flip that script because you
- 54:10Speaker 2: got to get onto the next week. Yeah, you try
- 54:13Speaker 2: to give the lessons and you try to learn from it,
- 54:16Speaker 2: and then you're onto the next opponent. But yeah, I
- 54:19Speaker 2: do remember those lingering a little bit.
- 54:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, there were there were the that was the
- 54:23Speaker 1: That was one year that those moments were seeping because
- 54:25Speaker 1: I remember I coming sit next to the locker and
- 54:27Speaker 1: Derek Morgan was next to my bed. Man, I fucking
- 54:30Speaker 1: hate this shit. Sometimes I'll just be laughing, kind of
- 54:34Speaker 1: like bonding over the embracing the suck.
- 54:37Speaker 2: I mean, there were a few team meetings where I
- 54:39Speaker 2: was I said the same.
- 54:40Speaker 3: Things, just hoping, you know, all the team keys everything.
- 54:44Speaker 3: Because eighteen was kind of a ship show. Nineteen is
- 54:47Speaker 3: when like he showed like being a little more easier.
- 54:51Speaker 1: We lose.
- 54:52Speaker 3: It wasn't so tough.
- 54:53Speaker 1: I was best. Yeah, that was way different.
- 54:57Speaker 3: You could just tell he was kind of like finding
- 54:59Speaker 3: his footing as a head coach, understanding the process.
- 55:01Speaker 2: But I will say it takes some time. Yeah, it
- 55:05Speaker 2: definitely takes some time. I would say, if you asked,
- 55:08Speaker 2: we don't have too many guys that were here in
- 55:10Speaker 2: twenty nineteen when I got hired, but we've got Kenny Clark,
- 55:15Speaker 2: Elton Jenkins. I would bet if you ask those guys,
- 55:18Speaker 2: they would tell you I'm a lot different then than
- 55:21Speaker 2: I am now.
- 55:22Speaker 3: Do you go through a process after your first season
- 55:24Speaker 3: as a head coach and like evaluate how you handle.
- 55:27Speaker 2: Yeah, you're always I think that's that's part of it.
- 55:31Speaker 2: If you want to be the best you can be,
- 55:34Speaker 2: is you know, sometimes you got to look at yourself
- 55:36Speaker 2: in the mirror and say, oh, man, I did not
- 55:39Speaker 2: handle that situation well and be real about it. So
- 55:43Speaker 2: I think you're constantly evaluating, constantly evolving in order to
- 55:49Speaker 2: be your best.
- 55:50Speaker 1: How does the evaluation look though, because it's like you
- 55:52Speaker 1: can look in the mirror and be like, I could
- 55:54Speaker 1: have handled that better. But sometimes you don't know if
- 55:55Speaker 1: your blind spots are unless you're asking people close to you.
- 55:58Speaker 1: It's like, man, I need you to be trans.
- 56:00Speaker 2: You got to have truth tellers and sometimes you don't
- 56:03Speaker 2: want to hear the truth. And I've got a couple
- 56:05Speaker 2: of guys on my staff that will You know, a
- 56:09Speaker 2: guy like Darryl Franklin who will, uh, sometimes tell me
- 56:13Speaker 2: the ship that I don't want to hear, and sometimes
- 56:16Speaker 2: I might get pissed off about it, but he keeps
- 56:18Speaker 2: coming back to me and he's resilient in that regard.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Joe mckillop's another guy like you've got to have guys
- 56:24Speaker 2: around you that will will feed you the hard truth
- 56:27Speaker 2: and you know, you just sometimes you got to accept it.
- 56:31Speaker 1: Uh. With Since being a head coach, what do you
- 56:33Speaker 1: feel like it has been your looking back, like, what
- 56:35Speaker 1: do you feel like it's been your biggest challenge?
- 56:37Speaker 2: Biggest challenge? Yeah, I mean there's been too many biggest challenges.
- 56:40Speaker 2: I mean we've navigated through some What's.
- 56:43Speaker 1: One that's yeah, that's true, what's one that yeah? I
- 56:45Speaker 1: guess some stuff times I was going to ask, what's
- 56:47Speaker 1: one that's been surprising that you're like, Oh, this is
- 56:49Speaker 1: a challenge I wasn't even thinking about or I had
- 56:52Speaker 1: the fourth thought for it.
- 56:55Speaker 2: I mean there's there's I feel like there's stuff that
- 56:57Speaker 2: comes up almost every well, it comes up every so
- 57:02Speaker 2: often where you just get caught off guard, you know
- 57:07Speaker 2: where whether it's guys are upset about you know, playing
- 57:11Speaker 2: time or production, whatever it may be that you're like, wow,
- 57:15Speaker 2: that that came out of left field that you have
- 57:19Speaker 2: to handle in the moment. But to sit here and
- 57:22Speaker 2: pinpoint and say just one, I think it's it's tough
- 57:27Speaker 2: to do because whether it's coaches, players, you're just dealing
- 57:31Speaker 2: with so many people. I think that's what separates our
- 57:35Speaker 2: game from most of these other sports is when you
- 57:37Speaker 2: think about it, you've got, especially off season, you've got
- 57:40Speaker 2: a ninety man roster. We've got like, I don't even
- 57:43Speaker 2: know how many coaches we have now, it's like twenty
- 57:45Speaker 2: five coaches, and you're you're dealing with you know, athletic
- 57:49Speaker 2: training staff, strength staff, you're scouting department. You're just dealing
- 57:53Speaker 2: with a lot of people that naturally, shit happens and
- 57:58Speaker 2: stuff comes up that you can't possibly prepare for.
- 58:03Speaker 3: With the draft being in Green Bay, what is different
- 58:06Speaker 3: about this draft for you guys compare to other drafts.
- 58:08Speaker 2: Because I would say, all this media stuff that we're doing.
- 58:11Speaker 3: Yeah, this is right, Yeah, this is sure.
- 58:14Speaker 1: That's your favorite.
- 58:15Speaker 2: One absolutely is keep telling yourself that, Well, there.
- 58:19Speaker 3: Was some media. There was some media saying that, like,
- 58:22Speaker 3: you know, people talk about the draft and how you know,
- 58:25Speaker 3: this is not the strongest draft in the world, and
- 58:27Speaker 3: a lot of these guys in the twenties are trying
- 58:28Speaker 3: to maybe trade out of it and stuff like that.
- 58:31Speaker 3: Do you is there ever, like a pressure from the
- 58:33Speaker 3: NFL for the team that if the draft is the
- 58:35Speaker 3: draft is in Green Bay, It's like Hey, we need
- 58:36Speaker 3: to make sure you guys have a first round draft pick.
- 58:38Speaker 2: Is that I don't believe, So I don't think we'd
- 58:41Speaker 2: operate that way anyways. We're always going to do what's
- 58:44Speaker 2: best for the Packers and whether you've got a first
- 58:46Speaker 2: round pick or not. But I think there's a ton
- 58:49Speaker 2: of good players in this draft, and who really knows.
- 58:52Speaker 2: I mean, I'll tell you, isn't that weird? I'll tell
- 58:54Speaker 2: you in two or three years. Yeah, there's some guys
- 58:56Speaker 2: that are going to come in this league and have
- 58:59Speaker 2: instant success. But you guys know you've been through it.
- 59:02Speaker 2: I'm sure you're a lot different player your rookie years.
- 59:05Speaker 2: You were three years into it, so you know you
- 59:10Speaker 2: got to give these guys an opportunity to go out
- 59:11Speaker 2: there and perform.
- 59:13Speaker 1: What's your best war room story?
- 59:15Speaker 2: War room story?
- 59:16Speaker 1: Yeah, day of the draft.
- 59:18Speaker 2: Oh man, you're trying to put me on the spot. Well,
- 59:21Speaker 2: what I felt like?
- 59:22Speaker 1: You got something probably just jump out at you in
- 59:24Speaker 1: your mind. I mean, there's just remember and you'll always remember, like, man,
- 59:27Speaker 1: that moment kind of changed X, Y and Z, or
- 59:29Speaker 1: this guy was right here when I was saying something different,
- 59:31Speaker 1: or I was right here when they were saying.
- 59:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say there's some moments where hey, we're
- 59:36Speaker 2: going to draft this guy and you're like, no, I
- 59:38Speaker 2: don't want that guy. And there's some back and forth
- 59:41Speaker 2: and hopefully you can come to a consensus conclusion on it.
- 59:45Speaker 2: And but ultimately I'll tell you this. I can tell
- 59:50Speaker 2: you that we've drafted players that I haven't been really
- 59:53Speaker 2: excited about that two years down the line I was
- 59:58Speaker 2: ecstatic about and I'd be like, man, can you drop names?
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: Because to me, that's a compliment. It's like you you're fired.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: I was wrong.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: I just I don't want to do that.
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: Damn.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: Like I feel like I'm not giving a.
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: Name and I'll never forget this. So we're in l
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: A And we drafted Cooper Cup and I thought we
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: needed a speed receiver and it didn't take long before
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: I realized. I was like, God, damn, I'm glad we
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: got Cooper Cup because he was a baller. So and
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: I know that makes me look like an idiot, because
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: how couldn't you see that Cooper Cup was going to
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: be what.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: What is a kid coming a white kid out of
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: Eastern Washington, like you know, you know, the flu.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: Was saying that too, Like, hey, like he's playing like
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: we need w a whatever that is, we need speed. Yeah,
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: not a white guy. Where did he go? Washington?
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: We went, We went and worked, and he's been I
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: mean he's been balling ever since he came in the
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: league his first year and was bawling and he would
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: he would have crossed you over, just like that kid
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: at Oregon did on that Choice.
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: Man with Like you talk about Cooper Cup, like he's
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: known as a gold worker. Who are some of the
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: best workers you've been around? Like from player standpoint, best workers,
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: Like the best workers are like this guy, no matter
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: what he's going to be, he's just a grinder.
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: Well, it's it's easiest if I talk about some of
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: the guys from our team right now, like a guy
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: like Tucker Craft coming in and just to watch him
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: work on a daily basis. I mean he's here even
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: when the players don't need to be here in the
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: off season and he's in there every day just grinding
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: a way.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: And he did.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: And I think he's going to get better and better
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: and better because of what you mentioned, just his work
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: ethic and how he approaches the game. I love his mindset,
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: but there's there's there's I mean you guys, I mean
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: I would say you guys were great workers. Once you
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: once you agree.
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I like to think I was a hard worker.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: Yeah, so both of you guys, watching you guys work,
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: it was impressive.
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: It was nice. Get insulted. But then all of a sudden.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: Comes back around.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: It comes back around.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: He streat me like a lady. He's like being mean
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: to me, And what's man? You do a good job.
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: To Dan Lanning the game he's playing.
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, he's playing chess right now?
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: Uh, do you have anything else? Do you want to
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: do the bud Like question?
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: Yeah, we did a bud Like question. Go ahead, our
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: bud Light question brought to us by bud Light. You
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: coach will for you know people would do anything for
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: a bud light. What would you do anything for?
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: You want funny or serious?
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: If you have one of one of each, then we'll what.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: Would I do anything for? I would definitely. I know
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: you guys said this earlier, but you know I would
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: definitely do anything for my family.
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: So I forgot to get the insurance and I forgot
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: to get no family.
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: No family, family, why kids? Yeah, you would do anything
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: for your family? You want to. I'll tell you what
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: I did for my family one time. So Milwaukee Bucks,
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: right they win the NBA Championship, and my wife and
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: I were we were celebrating at the arena and having
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: champagne and with a bunch of people from the Bucks,
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: and I was thinking, after the game, so we were
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: staying in Milwaukee, I'll just get an uber and go
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: back to the hotel or whatever. And I didn't realize
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: they kind of like what they've done here for the Draft,
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: where they just close off a bunch of streets. So
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: it was really hard to get an uber. You couldn't
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: get anything close to the arena. So we had to
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: take a walk. And we're walking down by all these
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: bars in Milwaukee Crosswater Street and we're walking along and
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: all of a sudden we hear and it was gunfire
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: going off. And I I immediately initial reaction and you
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: just start taking off and I look behind me and
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: my wife's and heels and I'm like, let's go. She's like,
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: I can't run. I'm in heels. So I literally fireman carrier,
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: put her up on my shoulders, run across the street
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: around the corner about two three blocks to get her
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: out of harm's way.
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: So fucking Superman out here.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: That's that's adrenaline. That was a lot of adrenaline right there.
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: I thought you were going to keep on running based
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: on this story.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: Right up to some police officers and may have may
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: or may not have name dropped and said, hey, can
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: you help me get back to my hotel? And they
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: got us there. So but in the process of that,
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: as I was scooping her up, there was a railing
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: that separated the sidewalk from the bars. May have skimmed
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: her eye across that railing a little bit, and as
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: I'm as I'm running with her, she's telling me to
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: to set her down. I'm like, oh, no, we're getting
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: out of here. So but yeah, outside of that, I mean,
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: I would do anything for a Super Bowl.
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: Ring you know what we have to ask you now,
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: I know, I know it's coming. So Mike Rabel, Yeah,
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: said he would cut off his penis for a Super Bowl.
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: Talked about how long he was married, kids, the whole
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: thing he had. He won three as a player, he
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: made sure to mention that and then said he would
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: do it for a Super Bowl as a coach. Would
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: you cut your dick off for a super Bowl.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: I don't think I can go that far.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Guys.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: Sorry, it's fair, that's.
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: Fair and logical. Like I thought for sure you were
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: ready to say, yeah, you're like I would do anything
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: for a super Bowl, and.
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: I would that Yeah, yeah, I do know what's coming in.
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: The answer is no.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: What do you think is going to take for you
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: guys to get over the humph?
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: You know, that's a great question. That's something that I've
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: obviously been thinking about for six years now in my
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: time because we've gotten close. Yeh uh. I just think
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: like when you get to the NFL playoffs, it is
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: Sean McVay and I talk about this all the time.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: It's March madness. So it takes you playing your best
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: in the moment and we've got to make the plays.
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: And certainly there's always things as you can do as
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: a coach that could be better, but you need everybody
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: clicking on all cylinders because we've been right there. Shoot,
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: we hosted an NFC championship game in Lambeau. Unfortunately it
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: was the year that it was the COVID year, and
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: you don't get to take advantage of that home field crowd.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: So I just think we need everybody to perform in
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: those tough moments because I mean, when you get to
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: that stage, I mean it's the margins are razor thins.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: So you have to be at your best. That's what
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: it takes.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: Yeah. In the health health, oh yeah.
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: And we were healthy the majority of that season.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: And I mean not to mess your division is just
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: scary good.
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: It's a pretty pretty competitive division right now.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: Yeah, Vikings, Lions, Bears.
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: Now, it's like a Wizard of All his story.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: Man, do you have beef with coach Johnson?
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: I was waiting for this. I don't know Ben Johnson?
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: So do you have beef?
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: Do I have beef? I don't know Ben Johnson. I
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: respect him as a football coach. I think he did
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: a nice job.
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: Yeah, but do we not feel in all the feeling
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: the same thing right now?
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, But if you don't know him, why why
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: why is it tight in here?
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: It's not tight? I'm not tight, I guess.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: I thought it was interesting.
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: What was interesting?
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: I thought the press conference was interesting. But I don't
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: have beef with him. I don't. I don't get it
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: all into that stuff. I thought about you you'll harness it.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: Here's the emojis after a wind.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: I don't know have his number, so that won't happen
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: to Jim Horball after a game. No, beat, I would
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: never do that.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: Do you have a strength to do that?
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: I don't know, probably not apparently not apparently not.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: No, No, I'd never do that.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: You think, am I not not strong enough for you? Will?
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: I know you're And you told your peck.
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: I did a year ago. It's it's a lot better now.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: A year ago. I flew back on draft d Ay
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: after getting surgery. No ship.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: Yeah, how'd you tear your pack?
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: Yeah? Bench pressing?
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: How much was on the rack?
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: Fifteen? Be honest, man, huh how much you think will one?
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: Thirty five?
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: It was not one little more two to a two?
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: Well five? It was no doubt, no doubt, you know,
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: you know, you know we hit one five and then
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: put the two and a halfs on just to get you.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: He had the camera set up just to.
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: Prove and seriousness. It was one and I was just
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: wrapping it out, last set, last rep, and you just,
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: you know, sometimes you just try to like throw it
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: up there. Well, I got a little careless with my form,
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: and sure.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: Enough, are you by yourself?
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: No, I was getting I was in the in our
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: weight room and our strength coach was right there, thank god,
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: because one side went up and the other side went
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: it went right on my chest.
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: God, did you hit all that shoulder pain or chest pain?
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: Never feel tired?
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: Just now just happened.
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: That's terrifying.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: You know, I'll never do it again.
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: Well, I will never barbell bench ever again in my life.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: I will dumbbell bench, never barbell. So I would tell you.
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: How old you know, thirty five?
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I would if I was you, I would never
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: for barbeo match.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: I don't have a barbelle in the garage. Well, I
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: mean you're you're right though, It's like we we bench
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: pressed more so for ego than anything else. Yeah, that
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: sucks though. Did your chest cave in?
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: Like, oh yeah you could. I had a big differ.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: I mean it was I had to go tour both
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: tendons and you know, oh yeah you could feel it.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: You could.
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: I could feel it like when it happened. Yeah. So
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: I went to doctor Cardasco and New York and had
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: surgery and it was it was not a good time,
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: such a pain. But he did a great job. If
