  Speaker 1: your hosts, me.

• 0:11
Speaker 1: Welcome back to another episode of Dirty Rush.
• 0:14
Speaker 2: Today, we're joined by.
• 0:15
Speaker 1: Becca Moore, who dealt with the downside of sorority rush
• 0:18
Speaker 1: and spilled the tea online. From being banned from parties
• 0:22
Speaker 1: to getting kicked out, she's been through it all and
• 0:25
Speaker 1: she's ready to talk now on Dirty Rush.
• 0:27
Speaker 2: So please welcome Becca Moore. Hi, Becca. How are you?
• 0:31
  Speaker 1: I'm good.
• 0:32
Speaker 3: How are you? Thank you for having me.
• 0:34
Speaker 2: No, thank you for coming on Dirty Rush. It sounds
• 0:36
Speaker 2: like you have quite the story.
• 0:38
  Speaker 3: Oh, God.
• 0:40
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 0:40
Speaker 3: I mean, I went through a lot with that sorority.
• 0:42
Speaker 2: It was crazy. Well, how are you now? How has
• 0:46
  Speaker 2: life been?
• 0:47
Speaker 3: It's been good. I started doing social media full time
• 0:51
Speaker 3: like around a year after I graduated from college and
• 0:56
Speaker 3: ever since then, it's been pretty good. I'm glad that
• 0:58
Speaker 3: I like kept posting because I don't know if you
• 1:02
Speaker 3: have a similar experience, but like when you can't really
• 1:05
Speaker 3: post a lot in a sorority, you have to like be,
• 1:07
Speaker 3: it's like really everything you post is being watched by exec.
• 1:12
Speaker 3: So I'm glad that I like was headstrong in that
• 1:15
Speaker 3: sense of like posting. I was really like, yeah, I
• 1:18
Speaker 3: was in control of my social media the entire time.
• 1:20
Speaker 3: Like I didn't want them to tell me what I
• 1:22
Speaker 3: could or could not post.
• 1:24
  Speaker 2: That's interesting.
• 1:24
Speaker 1: I mean, I went to Rutgers University in Jersey. So
• 1:27
Speaker 1: where did you go to school?
• 1:29
Speaker 3: I went to Ohio University in Ohio. It was like
• 1:33
Speaker 3: a party school. It was the knockoff of OSU, like
• 1:37
  Speaker 3: Ohio State.
• 1:38
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 1:39
Speaker 3: And people get those two confused.
• 1:41
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 1:42
  Speaker 1: Okay.
• 1:42
Speaker 2: So you're Ohio University, different from Ohio State. Got it.
• 1:45
Speaker 1: Because I was going to say, my cousin goes to
• 1:48
  Speaker 1: Ohio State.
• 1:50
Speaker 3: Yeah. And I grew up like... really fast going to
• 1:52
Speaker 3: the bars, like getting a fake ID and going to
• 1:54
Speaker 3: campus because I'm from Columbus. So I definitely had like
• 1:58
Speaker 3: the party gene in me. Like we would all have
• 2:01
Speaker 3: fake IDs in high school and we were going out
• 2:03
Speaker 3: at OSU. But OU is like a huge party school.
• 2:08
  Speaker 2: Got it. Okay.
• 2:09
Speaker 1: So what made you decide on going to Ohio University?
• 2:13
Speaker 3: Honestly, I just Googled the party school. I just wanted
• 2:18
Speaker 3: to party, I think. And it was kind of like,
• 2:21
Speaker 3: the school that like everyone and all the teachers were like,
• 2:23
Speaker 3: no one should go to OU because it's like a
• 2:25
Speaker 3: party school. You shouldn't, which made me want to go more.
• 2:28
Speaker 1: Whenever anyone tells you not to do something, that's literally
• 2:31
Speaker 1: the key word to, okay, I'm going to do it.
• 2:34
  Speaker 3: Exactly.
• 2:35
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 2:35
Speaker 3: So that's why I went. And then I was like
• 2:37
Speaker 3: a communications major because I, it was like the easiest one.
• 2:41
  Speaker 3: I don't know. I was being lazy.
• 2:43
Speaker 1: So what was recruitment like at Ohio? When did you rush?
• 2:48
Speaker 1: Did you rush first semester or second semester?
• 2:51
Speaker 3: I rushed first semester, and it was... Even at OU,
• 2:55
Speaker 3: it was, like, really long and strenuous. I can't even imagine, like,
• 2:59
Speaker 3: at a big... Especially, like, the southern schools. I hear it's, like,
• 3:02
Speaker 3: really crazy down there. But ours was supposed to be
• 3:05
Speaker 3: kind of more relaxed, and yet it was still, like,
• 3:07
Speaker 3: really chaotic. And it was, like, a lot of pressure.
• 3:12
Speaker 3: I also, like... We didn't really know what sororities were
• 3:16
Speaker 3: the best. So, like, it was, like... There wasn't as
• 3:20
Speaker 3: much of, like, a culture of, like, everyone has to
• 3:22
Speaker 3: rush at OU. But even though there was, like, not
• 3:27
Speaker 3: pressure to do it, it was still really intense. Like,
• 3:30
Speaker 3: it was, like, a lot of small talk. The days
• 3:32
Speaker 3: were so long, and you're talking about things that you
• 3:34
Speaker 3: don't care about. And you kind of start realizing, like,
• 3:37
Speaker 3: what sororities are, like, cooler than the others. And, yeah,
• 3:43
Speaker 3: it was, like, a lot. It's honestly... I going through
• 3:47
Speaker 3: that made me like a better version of myself because
• 3:50
Speaker 3: I like learn how to talk to anyone. But it
• 3:53
Speaker 3: was a lot of pressure to like look cute and everything.
• 3:57
Speaker 1: Did you go into recruitment already wanting a specific sorority?
• 4:01
Speaker 3: No, like I also it wasn't really normal in my
• 4:03
Speaker 3: family to rush. It wasn't like I was like the
• 4:08
Speaker 3: first one of all my siblings to want to do
• 4:10
Speaker 3: it because I was like researching it on. There was, like,
• 4:13
Speaker 3: a website called Total Sorority Move, and I was, like,
• 4:16
Speaker 3: looking at all those stories, and I just wanted to, like,
• 4:18
Speaker 3: at the time, it was, like, Vineyard Vines was, like,
• 4:22
Speaker 3: really cool. Like, wearing Sperry's, like, being preppy was really cool,
• 4:24
Speaker 3: and I just kind of wanted to be cool like that. Like,
• 4:28
Speaker 3: I wanted, like, the cute, like, Instagram photos and everything,
• 4:31
Speaker 3: but it wasn't, like, something that I was expected to do. Also,
• 4:36
Speaker 3: I forget what you asked me. I forget what I
• 4:38
  Speaker 3: was talking about.
• 4:39
Speaker 2: Did you know what sorority you wanted when you went
• 4:40
Speaker 2: into recruitment? Oh, I don't even know how to comment.
• 4:43
Speaker 3: Um no I had no idea until I got like
• 4:45
Speaker 3: halfway through I prepped Kayo I really wanted Kayo but
• 4:48
  Speaker 3: I didn't get that.
• 4:49
Speaker 1: One where did Gamma Phi Beta fall into the sorority
• 4:53
Speaker 1: hierarchy at Ohio at that time was it considered a
• 4:56
Speaker 1: top house or where did it kind of rank.
• 4:59
Speaker 3: No so it was actually Gamma Phi's first year on
• 5:02
Speaker 3: campus so it was um not like it had no
• 5:06
Speaker 3: ranking it was like I was their first one of
• 5:09
Speaker 3: their first ever PNM so they had never done Rush
• 5:11
Speaker 3: before And the reason that I did it was because
• 5:14
Speaker 3: it was that or not a good one, kind of.
• 5:21
Speaker 3: Because it was, like, all the girls were, like, trying
• 5:24
Speaker 3: to make Gamma Phi cool by starting.
• 5:26
  Speaker 1: Well, G5 is a great, you know, it's a very
• 5:28
Speaker 1: well-known sorority, you know, just in Greek life in general.
• 5:33
Speaker 3: On other campuses, maybe, yeah. It was just the first
• 5:36
Speaker 3: ever year. So it was, like, a good option. I
• 5:38
Speaker 3: really wanted Kaio, but I kind of. um gave up
• 5:42
Speaker 3: on that one gamify everyone in my classes was like
• 5:45
Speaker 3: the older girls in my classes freshman year were telling
• 5:47
Speaker 3: me to do gamify because it was new and we
• 5:50
Speaker 3: could like make it cool um but i have heard
• 5:53
  Speaker 3: and i don't mean to i hope this isn't mean
• 5:55
Speaker 3: but i have heard that they kind of like fell
• 5:57
Speaker 3: off since i like since we graduated and it did
• 6:01
Speaker 3: get like kind of a worse reputation i think they're
• 6:04
Speaker 3: they were just really strict because it was like the
• 6:05
Speaker 3: first year but no i didn't have a ranking yet
• 6:08
Speaker 3: because i was the first um ever Wow.
• 6:11
Speaker 2: That's interesting. So what inspired you to rush?
• 6:14
Speaker 1: Did you just want to be involved in something on campus?
• 6:18
Speaker 3: I just wanted the friends because it's like the easiest way. Also,
• 6:21
Speaker 3: we got to like go to school earlier. I think
• 6:24
Speaker 3: that we got to like move into our dorms earlier
• 6:26
Speaker 3: if we were rushing. And I just thought it would
• 6:29
Speaker 3: be like the quickest way to make friends because not
• 6:32
Speaker 3: any of my close friends were going to OU. So
• 6:34
Speaker 3: I like wanted the girlfriends. And I also, again, like
• 6:36
Speaker 3: saw how cute the girls online were that were um,
• 6:40
Speaker 3: in sororities. And I just wanted like, honestly, the cute
• 6:43
  Speaker 3: Instagram photos.
• 6:44
Speaker 1: You've also spoken on social media that your sorority actually
• 6:48
Speaker 1: made you delete Instagram posts. What was your experience like
• 6:52
Speaker 1: with this? I'm actually very interested about this and maybe
• 6:56
Speaker 1: it was because it was their first year on campus,
• 6:58
Speaker 1: but what, like, what were you posting that they would
• 7:02
  Speaker 1: make you delete?
• 7:03
Speaker 2: Like what type of content?
• 7:05
Speaker 3: Well, right from the start, we got in a lot
• 7:07
Speaker 3: of trouble. My entire, um, recruiting class we got in
• 7:11
Speaker 3: a lot of trouble for having finstas and we were
• 7:14
Speaker 3: kind of stupid about it like we all of us
• 7:16
Speaker 3: had finstas and we're posting crazy things and my finsta
• 7:20
Speaker 3: was literally called becca drinks more so it was like
• 7:22
Speaker 3: very easy to and it was a photo of me
• 7:24
  Speaker 3: it was like stupid i don't know how i didn't
• 7:26
Speaker 3: think i would get caught yeah um so we got
• 7:28
Speaker 3: like screamed at they like brought us into an emergency
• 7:31
Speaker 3: chapter and they're like everyone take out your phone and
• 7:34
Speaker 3: show us that you're deleting your finsta so we have
• 7:37
Speaker 3: but i secretly kept.
• 7:38
Speaker 1: Mine Were your Finstas public or private?
• 7:41
Speaker 3: They were private. I don't know how they found them.
• 7:44
Speaker 1: But maybe I guess they saw your username, your picture
• 7:46
Speaker 1: attached to the profile.
• 7:48
Speaker 3: Yeah, like followed by and they could see who was
• 7:50
Speaker 3: following it. So they like and the girl cried. I
• 7:55
Speaker 3: remember in that meeting, she like started crying as if
• 7:57
Speaker 3: it was like a big emotional thing that like we
• 8:00
Speaker 3: were all in trouble for having Finstas. So they kind
• 8:02
Speaker 3: of scared us with that meeting. I refused to delete
• 8:05
Speaker 3: my Finsta and I just changed the name and I
• 8:07
Speaker 3: changed the photo, but I still had it. And then
• 8:10
Speaker 3: after that, they really cracked down on us. We were
• 8:13
Speaker 3: not supposed to be posting with red solo cups or
• 8:18
Speaker 3: any alcohol at all.
• 8:19
Speaker 1: Were you allowed to post with red solo cups or
• 8:21
Speaker 1: alcoholic beverages prior? Yeah.
• 8:26
Speaker 3: Before that, if you're not in a sorority, you're just...
• 8:29
Speaker 3: like allowed to post whatever you want.
• 8:31
Speaker 2: Oh no, of course. But well, the same rules apply
• 8:34
Speaker 2: to us as well.
• 8:34
Speaker 1: Like when we were, when we were at frat parties
• 8:38
Speaker 1: or when we were at any mixers or socials, we
• 8:42
Speaker 1: were only allowed to have our drinks in a red
• 8:44
Speaker 1: solo cup. Like we weren't ever allowed to hold a,
• 8:48
Speaker 1: like a bottle, especially if we were underage.
• 8:51
Speaker 2: But then when it came to.
• 8:53
Speaker 1: Posting on Instagram, like obviously we really weren't allowed to
• 8:58
Speaker 1: advertise that we were drinking. Of course, we could post
• 9:01
Speaker 1: photos if we were at frat parties or socials or
• 9:04
Speaker 1: anything like that, but we weren't allowed to have a
• 9:07
Speaker 1: cup or anything in our hand that would imply that
• 9:10
  Speaker 1: we were drinking.
• 9:11
Speaker 3: Yeah, but we couldn't do that at all. We couldn't
• 9:14
Speaker 3: even post. If we were at a frat party, we
• 9:16
Speaker 3: couldn't even have the background make it obvious it was
• 9:18
Speaker 3: a frat party. And I do think that after they
• 9:20
Speaker 3: found our Finstas, keep in mind this was like two
• 9:23
Speaker 3: weeks in, they got really strict on the rules because
• 9:26
Speaker 3: and we couldn't even have a red solo cup or
• 9:28
Speaker 3: be in a bar we couldn't even post that we
• 9:31
Speaker 3: were ever in a bar even though we were always
• 9:33
Speaker 3: in bars like it was really really annoying and they
• 9:35
Speaker 3: were because it was a new chapter and they had
• 9:38
Speaker 3: um i can't pan no not panhellenic like the higher
• 9:42
Speaker 3: up said gamma phi were like closely in our chapter
• 9:46
Speaker 3: because probably nationals yeah nationals yeah they were like always
• 9:49
Speaker 3: watching us and trying to like i think scare us
• 9:53
Speaker 3: straight in the the beginning so that we weren't posting
• 9:56
Speaker 3: at all but they were really really strict on us
• 9:58
Speaker 3: and I think that we were like one of if
• 10:00
Speaker 3: not the strictest sorority on our campus um based on
• 10:05
Speaker 3: like what we could post we couldn't even post like
• 10:07
Speaker 3: two quote-unquote like slutty photo like if it if it
• 10:10
Speaker 3: was like too much like bikini that was also monitored
• 10:13
Speaker 3: by them and like we weren't allowed to post anything
• 10:16
Speaker 3: that would make our chapter look bad but it Made
• 10:19
Speaker 3: me start hating the chapter because I was like, it's
• 10:22
Speaker 3: not fair that the other my friends and other sororities
• 10:25
Speaker 3: are allowed to post whatever they want. And like, I'm
• 10:28
  Speaker 3: always in trouble.
• 10:29
Speaker 1: I guess because you guys were under a microscope.
• 10:32
Speaker 2: But then, you know, I feel like.
• 10:34
Speaker 1: They should have at least been watching what other sororities
• 10:38
Speaker 1: were doing so that there wasn't such a distinction between
• 10:41
Speaker 1: the two, you know, like there should have been some
• 10:43
Speaker 1: sort of like common ground where you guys could have
• 10:46
Speaker 1: posted some to not feel like you were restricted of all. Right.
• 10:50
Speaker 3: And it, it honestly made a lot of the girls
• 10:52
Speaker 3: hate our chapter. A lot of the girls dropped just
• 10:56
Speaker 3: because the rules were so strict. And then we had
• 10:58
Speaker 3: like a whole week of sober week where we every
• 11:02
Speaker 3: semester where we weren't allowed to drink or yeah during
• 11:05
Speaker 3: like rushing yeah and they were really strict with us
• 11:08
Speaker 3: and we always I was always getting in trouble I
• 11:11
Speaker 3: feel like I was kind of the leader and trying
• 11:13
Speaker 3: to get people to like not listen to the rules
• 11:16
Speaker 3: because I was thinking like if we all just like
• 11:18
Speaker 3: don't delete our photos with the red solo cuffs they
• 11:20
Speaker 3: can't do anything but no one would listen to me
• 11:23
Speaker 3: so they started you because I was I was posting
• 11:26
Speaker 3: with alcohol and I didn't even care and then you
• 11:28
Speaker 3: would get like a black square like a comment from
• 11:31
Speaker 3: exec which meant like you have to take this down
• 11:33
Speaker 3: and I just wouldn't take it down. So they started
• 11:36
Speaker 3: banning me from social events. Like I couldn't go to
• 11:39
Speaker 3: socials or date parties. Um, and I couldn't go to
• 11:43
Speaker 3: like any of the fun events. And they, at one
• 11:46
Speaker 3: point I started using my photos as like what not
• 11:48
Speaker 3: to do in chapter. Like they would put it on
• 11:52
Speaker 3: a screen of like, Becca, you should have taken this down.
• 11:54
Speaker 3: They like, I was always in trouble. Like I always
• 11:57
Speaker 3: had to have an exec meeting, but they wouldn't kick
• 11:59
Speaker 3: me out. Um, ever like they just like let me
• 12:04
Speaker 3: keep breaking the rules so i it was just annoying
• 12:06
  Speaker 3: though because i wasn't allowed to vote i wasn't allowed
• 12:08
Speaker 3: to go to events or anything but i was um
• 12:11
Speaker 3: i had to pay and like do all that stuff.
• 12:13
Speaker 1: Were they just punishing you or were they punishing also.
• 12:17
Speaker 2: The rest of the girls in your pledge class.
• 12:20
Speaker 3: No it was just me because everyone else listened like
• 12:22
Speaker 3: everyone else and i also wasn't even the it's annoying
• 12:25
Speaker 3: because like the older girls would party with us like
• 12:27
Speaker 3: they would take us out to the bars they would
• 12:28
Speaker 3: give us shots um But then we were in trouble
• 12:32
Speaker 3: if we posted a selfie with them, even though it
• 12:36
Speaker 3: was their idea to go out that night.
• 12:38
Speaker 1: I'm surprised the older girls didn't get in trouble for
• 12:41
Speaker 1: it because when I joined my sorority freshman year, it
• 12:46
Speaker 1: was bid day. And you throw your party at your
• 12:50
Speaker 1: house and you have fun and you get welcomed home
• 12:54
Speaker 1: and it's a big celebration. And the older girls actually
• 12:57
Speaker 1: brought me up to their rooms and we were drinking
• 13:01
Speaker 1: and they ended up getting in trouble because they were
• 13:04
Speaker 1: the older girls in the sorority that should have known better.
• 13:07
Speaker 1: And they were influencing the behaviors on like the new
• 13:09
Speaker 1: PNMs or the new pledges that just joined the sorority.
• 13:14
Speaker 1: So it was like their fault for kind of initiating
• 13:18
Speaker 1: that behavior. And then, so yeah, I'm surprised the older
• 13:22
Speaker 1: girls didn't also get in trouble for it.
• 13:24
Speaker 3: Well, I'm sure they did, but like they would also
• 13:27
Speaker 3: punish us. So it wasn't like, I just feel like
• 13:30
Speaker 3: they were like really harsh. Like it was the strictest
• 13:33
Speaker 3: sorority on campus, I really think. Even though we were
• 13:36
Speaker 3: all drinking and it was also hard because it is
• 13:38
Speaker 3: a party school. Like OU is like one of the
• 13:40
Speaker 3: biggest party schools. And so we were all partying and
• 13:44
Speaker 3: it was just like they were punishing us for like
• 13:46
Speaker 3: being normal college students. And I do think that the
• 13:49
Speaker 3: rumors started spreading that we were like, too strict so
• 13:52
Speaker 3: girls didn't want to rush our sorority and I think
• 13:54
Speaker 3: that is what ended up making them have a bad reputation.
• 13:58
Speaker 1: Kind of fall off what were some other like super
• 14:01
Speaker 1: strict rules that they had besides not posting photos while
• 14:06
Speaker 1: drinking and maybe not posting like derogatory photos we.
• 14:13
Speaker 3: Couldn't have boys in our house ever um which was
• 14:17
Speaker 3: really annoying um we couldn't have We couldn't be, like,
• 14:21
Speaker 3: up past midnight, like, out of our rooms, I think.
• 14:24
Speaker 3: There were, like, really crazy rules. And then during sober week,
• 14:27
Speaker 3: we couldn't leave the house at night unless we proved
• 14:33
Speaker 3: that we were going to, like, the library or to, like,
• 14:35
Speaker 3: a friend's dorm that wasn't drinking. We also had to, like,
• 14:40
Speaker 3: go to all these really boring things or else we
• 14:42
Speaker 3: would have to pay, like, $ 100. But I think that
• 14:44
Speaker 3: is normal in a sorority. You had to go to, like,
• 14:46
  Speaker 3: chapter every weekend.
• 14:47
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 14:48
Speaker 2: Chapter once a week.
• 14:50
Speaker 1: I mean, it's pretty standard for boys not to be
• 14:52
Speaker 1: allowed in the sorority house because it's, like, forbidden.
• 14:54
Speaker 2: Like, no boys were ever allowed.
• 14:56
Speaker 1: To sleep over our sorority house, but the frat boys
• 14:59
Speaker 1: were allowed to, like, come and eat, like, lunch with
• 15:02
Speaker 1: us or dinner or stuff like that.
• 15:03
Speaker 3: No, we couldn't even have that. Like, they were, like,
• 15:06
Speaker 3: banned from our house completely. I'm trying to think of, like,
• 15:09
Speaker 3: what were the crazy rules. Oh, we couldn't do any hazing, like,
• 15:14
Speaker 3: at all. Like, no one, if we got hazed or were, like,
• 15:18
Speaker 3: hanging out with too many of the older girls too
• 15:21
Speaker 3: early on then we were all in trouble because it
• 15:23
Speaker 3: seemed like a hazing event it was just like they
• 15:26
Speaker 3: were really strict like they didn't want us to drink at.
• 15:28
Speaker 1: All so you also shared a passive aggressive hey girly
• 15:32
Speaker 1: text that you've gotten when told to delete things is
• 15:35
Speaker 1: this better or worse than a straightforward punishment it was
• 15:38
  Speaker 1: way worse.
• 15:39
Speaker 3: Because it was passive aggressive they would like put it
• 15:42
Speaker 3: in the group chat and then be like hey I'm
• 15:45
Speaker 3: just wondering if you'll delete this and then I'm when
• 15:50
Speaker 3: I'm saying, like, no, I'm not gonna delete it, then
• 15:52
Speaker 3: they were, like, okay, well, then, if you don't do that,
• 15:56
Speaker 3: then you might not be able to go to the social,
• 15:59
Speaker 3: and I was, like, okay, obviously, I just won't go
• 16:02
Speaker 3: to the social, and I, like, don't want to hang
• 16:04
Speaker 3: out with you guys anyway, um, because I was, like,
• 16:06
Speaker 3: at that point, like, annoyed with the exec, and then they, like,
• 16:10
Speaker 3: would pretend to be my friend in front of my face,
• 16:12
Speaker 3: and then I heard behind my back they were, like,
• 16:15
Speaker 3: really complaining about it, but I wish that they were just, like, Dude,
• 16:18
Speaker 3: you literally have to delete that. I just felt like
• 16:20
Speaker 3: it was a culture of being kind of fake because
• 16:23
Speaker 3: they thought I was funny. And then behind my back,
• 16:26
Speaker 3: they were really annoyed with me. They would pretend to
• 16:29
Speaker 3: be my friend. Yeah.
• 16:31
Speaker 1: Taking the devil's advocate, if you were in the shoes
• 16:34
Speaker 1: of the standards board, in what circumstances would you make
• 16:37
Speaker 1: a member delete something?
• 16:38
Speaker 3: I think I would only... Also, like, they, by the way,
• 16:43
Speaker 3: I will say, because I've graduated, I feel like they
• 16:46
Speaker 3: had every right to, like, do, I, like, don't care
• 16:48
Speaker 3: about this anymore. I'm, like, whatever. Like, I shouldn't have
• 16:50
Speaker 3: been drinking underage anyway. But, like, I do think that
• 16:54
Speaker 3: the only time I would make someone delete something is
• 16:58
Speaker 3: if it was, like, a naked photo. I feel like
• 17:01
  Speaker 3: I just don't, it's not like I was posting that
• 17:03
Speaker 3: bad or, like, anything too scandalous. So I think I
• 17:08
Speaker 3: would not ever tell someone to delete something because I
• 17:10
  Speaker 3: wouldn't care. I just feel like I couldn't believe that
• 17:12
Speaker 3: they cared about it so much. I was like, oh
• 17:14
Speaker 3: my God, let me live.
• 17:15
  Speaker 2: I get it.
• 17:16
Speaker 1: And it's annoying, especially when you're in college, you want
• 17:19
Speaker 1: to live your life, express your personality, be who you are.
• 17:22
Speaker 1: I think it's just a pretty standard rule across all
• 17:25
Speaker 1: sororities that you just shouldn't advertise that you're drinking.
• 17:28
Speaker 2: I will say, not being able to post.
• 17:33
Speaker 1: at a bar that you're at with your friends or,
• 17:35
Speaker 1: you know, maybe if you're underage, I understand because maybe
• 17:38
Speaker 1: they don't want to like advertise it that.
• 17:40
  Speaker 2: You're at a bar underage.
• 17:42
Speaker 1: But I mean, even posting at like frat parties or
• 17:45
Speaker 1: socials that your sorority is planning with other fraternities, I
• 17:49
Speaker 1: feel like that should be fine as long as there's
• 17:52
Speaker 1: like nothing in the background or no drinking involved, like
• 17:55
Speaker 1: no drinking in your hands or anything. But I feel
• 17:58
Speaker 1: like that's like a pretty standard rule like all across society.
• 18:02
  Speaker 2: Like sororities.
• 18:03
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 18:03
  Speaker 3: And I think that's why I maybe just shouldn't have
• 18:05
Speaker 3: rushed because like I hated it. I hated all the rules.
• 18:08
Speaker 3: I literally couldn't do it. I also do, I will say,
• 18:11
Speaker 3: my first week we had like a party, like an
• 18:15
  Speaker 3: underground party.
• 18:16
Speaker 2: I feel like you just didn't like being told what
• 18:18
  Speaker 2: to do.
• 18:18
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 18:19
Speaker 3: I didn't like being told what to do. So I
• 18:20
Speaker 3: wasn't going to be like a good sorority sister, but
• 18:22
Speaker 3: I do think that they were harsh on me because
• 18:24
Speaker 3: the first week I was like flirting with this guy
• 18:28
Speaker 3: I didn't know any of the older sisters or really anyone.
• 18:30
Speaker 1: Oh my god that's a bit Becca that is a
• 18:32
Speaker 1: huge no-no I already know where you're going with.
• 18:34
Speaker 3: This yeah I was flirting with this guy but it was.
• 18:37
Speaker 1: Probably a guy that one of your sorority sisters were
• 18:40
  Speaker 1: talking to.
• 18:41
Speaker 3: Yeah it was one I'm not kidding yeah it was
• 18:43
Speaker 3: like one of the exec girls I guess ex-situationship or
• 18:47
  Speaker 3: something but I didn't know her I didn't know.
• 18:49
Speaker 1: This it's hard When you're a freshman and you start
• 18:53
Speaker 1: going out and you start talking to guys, God forbid
• 18:56
Speaker 1: you talk to one of your sorority sister's ex-boyfriends or
• 19:00
Speaker 1: someone that they're talking to, they will literally scrutinize you
• 19:03
Speaker 1: till the day, like, I don't know, they will make
• 19:05
Speaker 1: you remember the day. And it's so hard because when
• 19:07
Speaker 1: you enter your sorority as a freshman, it's so hard
• 19:10
Speaker 1: to actually know every single person that's in your sorority
• 19:13
Speaker 1: right off the bat and let alone.
• 19:15
Speaker 2: Know who they've talked to in the past.
• 19:17
Speaker 3: It was like a year before I hadn't even gotten
• 19:19
Speaker 3: there and I didn't know. And so a girl came
• 19:22
Speaker 3: up to me and she was like, as a sister,
• 19:25
Speaker 3: I do think that you need to stop talking to
• 19:27
Speaker 3: that guy. I don't know his name, like Mason or something.
• 19:30
Speaker 3: You need to stop talking to Mason. And because as
• 19:32
Speaker 3: a sister, would you want your sister to be talking
• 19:35
Speaker 3: to your ex? And I was like, oh my God, no,
• 19:37
Speaker 3: I'm so sorry. And I immediately was like, but even,
• 19:39
  Speaker 3: but now I'm looking back and I'm like, I didn't
• 19:42
Speaker 3: know them. I didn't know this girl.
• 19:43
Speaker 1: I didn't know they make it such a big deal
• 19:45
Speaker 1: it's like it's like the worst thing in the.
• 19:47
Speaker 3: World and that was the girl who was in charge
• 19:51
Speaker 3: of the social so I think that's why I hated
• 19:54
Speaker 3: the rules because I was like oh my god it's
• 19:56
Speaker 3: because I didn't even kiss him and I like ignored
• 19:58
Speaker 3: him after that I like walked away from him but
• 20:01
Speaker 3: even just him being interested in me for that like
• 20:03
Speaker 3: 10 minutes that we were talking for the rest of
• 20:06
Speaker 3: my life in my sorority they were like punishing me
• 20:09
Speaker 3: the entire time because I could not get over it
• 20:10
  Speaker 3: and I was like I don't like that I don't
• 20:12
Speaker 3: even know that guy I never talked to that guy
• 20:15
Speaker 3: and I felt like I was getting like punished for
• 20:17
Speaker 3: that for the rest of my time there.
• 20:34
Speaker 1: You tried to start a revolution against the black square
• 20:36
Speaker 1: rule and convince other girls not to delete their posts
• 20:40
Speaker 1: as well. Did that ever get back to standards and
• 20:42
Speaker 1: did it make things worse for you? Yes.
• 20:46
Speaker 3: Yes. And yeah, it definitely did.
• 20:48
Speaker 2: All around made things so much worse.
• 20:51
Speaker 3: I cannot believe they kept me for the whole four years.
• 20:54
Speaker 3: I ended up... I ended up getting like pressure to
• 20:57
Speaker 3: be kicked out my senior year, but I lived in
• 20:59
  Speaker 3: the house.
• 21:00
Speaker 2: At this point though, why didn't you just want to leave?
• 21:02
  Speaker 3: Because I didn't know I could because I owed them
• 21:04
Speaker 3: a lot of money. Like I never would pay. I
• 21:06
Speaker 3: was so poor. So I thought that if I, you
• 21:09
Speaker 3: can't leave unless you like pay all your debts. So
• 21:12
  Speaker 3: I was like, I can't, I literally am stuck in
• 21:14
Speaker 3: this sorority because I thought contractually I could not leave
• 21:17
Speaker 3: because I couldn't pay. But by the way, I'm kind
• 21:21
Speaker 3: of starting to think I'm like in the wrong when
• 21:23
Speaker 3: I'm retelling a story. I never paid one time. Like
• 21:26
Speaker 3: I never paid my dues ever.
• 21:28
Speaker 2: Oh, and nothing ever happened?
• 21:30
Speaker 3: Nothing ever happened. And I talked to another, well, I'm
• 21:32
Speaker 3: scared they're going to like send me to collections or something.
• 21:34
  Speaker 3: I don't know. It's never happened. But I talked to
• 21:37
Speaker 3: another girl who had the same thing. She never paid
• 21:40
Speaker 3: and nothing's happened to us. So I don't know why
• 21:43
Speaker 3: they even kept me.
• 21:44
Speaker 1: So nationals run sororities all over the US and they
• 21:48
Speaker 1: need money in order to keep up with the chapters
• 21:50
Speaker 1: at each school. So like with that being said, like
• 21:53
Speaker 1: each school has a budget. So I'm really shocked that
• 21:55
Speaker 1: you got away with it and didn't have to pay anything.
• 21:58
Speaker 2: I would totally think.
• 21:59
Speaker 1: That nationals would honestly contact you post-grad and ask for
• 22:06
  Speaker 1: your dues.
• 22:07
Speaker 3: My sorority lost their house. So, but there's still somehow
• 22:10
Speaker 3: a thing now. I don't know how. But not enough
• 22:13
Speaker 3: girls wanted to live in the house. And I was
• 22:16
Speaker 3: living in the house for two years. I lived there.
• 22:19
Speaker 1: Well, usually now sororities make it mandatory. If you join,
• 22:25
Speaker 1: you need to live in the house at least one year.
• 22:27
Speaker 1: And a lot of girls typically do it their junior year.
• 22:30
Speaker 3: I did it sophomore and junior and it was really
• 22:33
Speaker 3: actually randomly really fun. And that was the time that
• 22:36
Speaker 3: I loved being in a sorority.
• 22:37
Speaker 1: Okay, this is the first good thing I've heard you
• 22:39
Speaker 1: say about your sorority. I know.
• 22:41
Speaker 3: That was like the fun time because it was like
• 22:44
Speaker 3: every morning you wake up and there are like 30
• 22:46
Speaker 3: girls around you all the time. And I loved like
• 22:49
Speaker 3: mealtime and every breakfast I would be like, guess what
• 22:52
Speaker 3: I did last night? And I was really like the
• 22:54
Speaker 3: chaotic girl there. But I do looking back, I'm like,
• 22:58
Speaker 3: I'm grateful for the years that I lived in the house.
• 23:00
Speaker 3: And I actually am randomly really glad that I was
• 23:03
Speaker 3: in a sorority because of the social skills I learned,
• 23:06
Speaker 3: like having to go through recruit, like be on the
• 23:08
Speaker 3: other side of recruitment and recruit girls. You're talking all
• 23:14
Speaker 3: day long for like hours and hours. And it taught
• 23:16
Speaker 3: me how to talk to people, honestly. And living in
• 23:20
Speaker 3: the house is really fun. But I do think that
• 23:23
Speaker 3: I'm not, maybe I was like meant to be in
• 23:25
Speaker 3: a sorority that was a little bit more of a party.
• 23:28
Speaker 3: Back then, all I cared about was partying. So for
• 23:31
Speaker 3: me to be in the strictest sorority was not going
• 23:34
Speaker 3: to work for me. But I've stayed my whole four years.
• 23:37
Speaker 3: I dropped my freshman semester of my senior year when
• 23:41
  Speaker 3: I realized I could leave.
• 23:43
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 23:44
Speaker 1: You've talked about being banned from sorority parties and then
• 23:47
Speaker 1: trying to create a ban against the exec board before
• 23:51
Speaker 1: ultimately getting kicked out.
• 23:52
Speaker 2: Tell us what happened there.
• 23:54
Speaker 3: So my senior year, I like wanted to go to
• 23:58
Speaker 3: this date party and they were telling me I couldn't go,
• 24:01
Speaker 3: I think, or I think it was like formal. It
• 24:03
Speaker 3: was like, oh yeah, it was formal. It was like
• 24:04
Speaker 3: a big trip that they were going to. And I
• 24:06
Speaker 3: wasn't allowed to go because of my like tension with
• 24:11
Speaker 3: existing back. I think like in me just trying to
• 24:13
Speaker 3: start a revolution at breakfast all the time, God forbid
• 24:17
Speaker 3: I would every morning at breakfast, I would always be like,
• 24:19
Speaker 3: if we just don't take our photos down. Or if
• 24:22
Speaker 3: we just like skip sober, we can like go out.
• 24:25
Speaker 3: If all of us do it, then what are they
• 24:27
Speaker 3: going to do? But because I was like anti the rules,
• 24:31
Speaker 3: they ended up putting me on the blocked list or
• 24:35
Speaker 3: like blacklist from, yeah, I was blacklisted from going to formal.
• 24:38
Speaker 3: So I tried to fight it by being like, I
• 24:41
Speaker 3: don't care about the rules. Exec is fake. This whole
• 24:43
Speaker 3: thing is fake. Like, I don't even care. Like, what
• 24:45
Speaker 3: are you guys going to do? And when I did that,
• 24:48
Speaker 3: I had, I'm pretty sure they like called me in
• 24:50
Speaker 3: to have an exec meeting and to like kick me
• 24:52
Speaker 3: out essentially because I was really trying to start a
• 24:54
Speaker 3: revolution and that's when I was like well if they
• 24:58
Speaker 3: kick me out then I'll just drop so I just
• 25:00
Speaker 3: showed up and I was like I'm just dropping them
• 25:02
Speaker 3: so I technically I was like pressured to drop but
• 25:06
Speaker 3: I did end up being the one that did it
• 25:08
  Speaker 3: at least you.
• 25:09
Speaker 1: Got out I mean the fact that you thought you
• 25:12
Speaker 1: couldn't get out and then you did pretty that's pretty good.
• 25:16
Speaker 3: I know did you stay in your like your full
• 25:18
  Speaker 3: four years I.
• 25:19
  Speaker 1: Did I mean, I could have left. I definitely wasn't
• 25:25
Speaker 1: a raw, raw sorority girl. But I did have fun.
• 25:32
Speaker 1: I loved going to the date parties and the formals.
• 25:35
Speaker 1: And so I get why you were annoyed there because
• 25:37
Speaker 1: it's your senior year.
• 25:39
Speaker 2: Those honestly were the most... I felt like I had
• 25:43
Speaker 2: the most fun going to my formals and date parties.
• 25:45
Speaker 1: So... The senior year, we had so many of them
• 25:48
Speaker 1: because that was our time where it's like, let's have
• 25:50
Speaker 1: as many as we can because we're about to graduate.
• 25:52
Speaker 2: And that was the time where we had the most fun.
• 25:56
Speaker 1: So that's kind of why I stayed in Greek life, honestly,
• 26:00
Speaker 1: as long as I did.
• 26:01
Speaker 2: It was for the formals and the day parties.
• 26:04
Speaker 1: It wasn't even more so for anything else because at
• 26:07
Speaker 1: that point, especially my junior and senior year, I Like
• 26:11
Speaker 1: I had my friends. I knew everyone in Greek life.
• 26:14
Speaker 1: We could kind of go to whatever fraternities or mixers
• 26:16
Speaker 1: or socials that we wanted to. So it really was
• 26:20
Speaker 1: just to be a part of those formals and date
• 26:22
Speaker 1: nights that felt a little more intimate and close and
• 26:25
Speaker 1: just kind of have that time with, you know, your
• 26:28
Speaker 1: date and your friends.
• 26:29
  Speaker 2: And that's why I stayed.
• 26:31
Speaker 3: Yeah. So imagine not having that. I would like hated it.
• 26:34
Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I would.
• 26:35
Speaker 1: I would hate it, too, because that was like one
• 26:37
Speaker 1: of the main reasons why I stayed, especially as I
• 26:39
Speaker 1: got older. Listen, when I was younger, it was great
• 26:42
Speaker 1: because freshman year, it gave me a time to just
• 26:44
Speaker 1: like meet my girlfriend, socialize, make friends.
• 26:47
Speaker 2: And it was awesome. It introduced me to like so
• 26:49
Speaker 2: many people in Greek life.
• 26:51
Speaker 1: And then, you know, as the years went on, I
• 26:54
Speaker 1: definitely probably could have left.
• 26:57
Speaker 2: And not stayed as long as I did.
• 27:00
Speaker 1: But I did because I just enjoyed like the other
• 27:03
Speaker 1: things that came along with it. So if it was
• 27:06
Speaker 1: taken away from me, I don't think I would have
• 27:08
  Speaker 1: stayed either.
• 27:10
Speaker 3: Exactly. Yeah. And I'm so happy that I was like
• 27:13
Speaker 3: headstrong in that sense of like, not, I feel like
• 27:15
Speaker 3: it like set me up to not care, like not
• 27:18
Speaker 3: let anyone boss me around. I remember like I took
• 27:21
Speaker 3: a job for as a recruiter after college, I graduated
• 27:25
Speaker 3: during COVID. So there were not like many jobs and
• 27:29
  Speaker 3: I got a job and they told me I couldn't
• 27:31
Speaker 3: post basically anything. And at that point I had kind
• 27:35
Speaker 3: of gotten some followers and, Because Barstool Smoke, I don't
• 27:38
Speaker 3: know if you know what Barstool Smoke Shows is.
• 27:40
Speaker 2: They like posted a photo of me. I know what
• 27:42
  Speaker 2: Barstool is.
• 27:43
Speaker 3: Yeah, they posted a photo of me and I got
• 27:44
Speaker 3: like 4,000 followers. And then the job that I took
• 27:48
Speaker 3: said that I couldn't be like a public Instagram and
• 27:50
Speaker 3: I had to take down bikini phone. I couldn't post
• 27:52
Speaker 3: in bikinis. And then I ended up not taking that job.
• 27:55
  Speaker 3: I was like, fine, I'll just bartend because I don't
• 27:58
Speaker 3: want people to be in charge of my social media.
• 28:00
Speaker 1: It was like what you were running away from, but
• 28:02
Speaker 1: then it kind of came back around again. Yeah.
• 28:05
Speaker 3: And then I like, but honestly, it, me being like
• 28:08
Speaker 3: a rebellion in that sense ended up giving me like
• 28:10
Speaker 3: my job in social media because I was so protective
• 28:13
Speaker 3: over like posting whatever I wanted to post. So even
• 28:16
Speaker 3: though I was just kind of probably like annoying to
• 28:20
Speaker 3: exec and everything, they kind of like made me, I
• 28:23
Speaker 3: don't know, made me like stronger, like more, I stood
• 28:26
Speaker 3: up for myself more after that.
• 28:27
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 28:28
Speaker 2: I mean, listen, Becca, I'm going to fully be devil's
• 28:29
  Speaker 2: advocate here.
• 28:30
Speaker 1: Like you definitely were doing things that like a normal sorority,
• 28:34
Speaker 1: like exec, like You know, normal sororities on the exec
• 28:39
Speaker 1: team probably would not stand for. And I understand maybe
• 28:42
Speaker 1: why your execs were annoyed with you and why you
• 28:45
Speaker 1: were brought into standards and little things like that and
• 28:48
Speaker 1: get things taken away from you. Because if you did something,
• 28:50
Speaker 1: then you can't go to the social. Or if you
• 28:52
Speaker 1: did this, then you have to be a sober monitor.
• 28:54
Speaker 1: I totally understand where they were maybe coming from.
• 29:00
Speaker 2: But then I understand your perspective too.
• 29:02
  Speaker 3: Maybe....
• 29:05
Speaker 1: Maybe sorority life just wasn't for you and you gave
• 29:08
Speaker 1: it your all, you know, you gave it a go
• 29:11
Speaker 1: and now it brought you to where you are today
• 29:14
Speaker 1: because all the rules that you were given, clearly you
• 29:18
Speaker 1: didn't like to follow them and you wanted like your
• 29:20
Speaker 1: own way and your own path.
• 29:22
  Speaker 2: And I mean, that's.
• 29:24
Speaker 1: Something to admire at the same time because now it
• 29:26
Speaker 1: made you find what you love.
• 29:28
Speaker 3: So I know, I know, but I did feel like
• 29:31
Speaker 3: a bad, girl like I felt like the black sheep
• 29:34
Speaker 3: of the sorority like I was definitely the troublemaker yeah
• 29:37
Speaker 3: but yeah I do think looking back when I'm retelling
• 29:40
Speaker 3: the stories, I'm like, yeah, they kind of had a point.
• 29:42
Speaker 3: I don't know. Yeah, it was just annoying. I just
• 29:46
  Speaker 3: didn't like it.
• 29:47
Speaker 1: I mean, at that time, I mean, you're also looking
• 29:49
Speaker 1: back at it now. You're older, you're more mature, like
• 29:52
Speaker 1: you're not the same person that you were in college.
• 29:54
Speaker 1: So looking back, you're like, okay, yeah, I was probably
• 29:57
Speaker 1: a pain in the ass, but now I'm a lot better.
• 30:01
Speaker 3: Yeah. I shouldn't have definitely been in the strictest story
• 30:03
Speaker 3: because even when you're 21, you couldn't post alcohol. That's crazy. Oh,
• 30:08
Speaker 3: my God. It was insane.
• 30:09
  Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
• 30:10
Speaker 1: I mean, that makes no sense. They should have no
• 30:13
  Speaker 1: say when you're over 21.
• 30:15
Speaker 3: I don't know how anyone is in that. I'm like,
• 30:17
Speaker 3: I wonder if it's the same or if they were
• 30:19
Speaker 3: really strict because it was the first four years for them.
• 30:22
  Speaker 3: I don't know.
• 30:22
Speaker 1: Yeah. You said your social chair made you the designated
• 30:39
Speaker 1: sober sister after you gave her situationship your number. Did
• 30:43
Speaker 1: you have to do it for every event? And did
• 30:45
Speaker 1: that make you question staying in the sorority?
• 30:48
Speaker 3: The annoying part about it is that it was supposed
• 30:51
Speaker 3: to be random who they chose as a sober monitor
• 30:55
Speaker 3: every time. And it was always me. They say it's random.
• 31:01
Speaker 3: Because the girl hated me. She was in charge of
• 31:04
Speaker 3: the social media stuff and the sober monitor thing. And
• 31:07
Speaker 3: I can't remember her name, but I'm still pissed at
• 31:09
Speaker 3: her because she would always make me the sober sister.
• 31:11
Speaker 3: So I would bring a water bottle.
• 31:12
Speaker 1: So for like a whole semester, you were basically, well,
• 31:15
  Speaker 1: I guess a year probably.
• 31:17
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 31:18
Speaker 3: Until she was not that position anymore. Yeah.
• 31:21
  Speaker 2: It's like a year.
• 31:22
Speaker 1: Because I think they, if I'm wrong, I think they re-up,
• 31:25
Speaker 1: they do it in like spring and you have to
• 31:30
Speaker 1: your term is up the next spring when they vote again.
• 31:33
Speaker 3: Yes. And most of the time, but then I started
• 31:36
Speaker 3: just getting banned from the events because I was posting.
• 31:38
Speaker 3: So like, it didn't even matter after that. But the
• 31:40
Speaker 3: first few events, I was randomly chosen as one of
• 31:43
Speaker 3: the two sober monitors. So then I started really hating
• 31:47
Speaker 3: her a lot. And that's why I tried to start
• 31:49
Speaker 3: a rebellion. But I would just bring a water bottle
• 31:51
Speaker 3: of vodka into the whatever event it was, and then
• 31:55
Speaker 3: just get even drunker. So like I didn't even care
• 31:57
Speaker 3: because I was just like, I hate you. So I'm
• 31:59
Speaker 3: going to drink. And I was like the worst sober monitor.
• 32:02
Speaker 3: But I don't think they ever got me in trouble
• 32:04
  Speaker 3: for that.
• 32:05
  Speaker 2: Well, that's good.
• 32:06
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 32:07
Speaker 1: There's always those funny stories of when the sober monitor
• 32:10
Speaker 1: gets the most drunk out of everyone in the party
• 32:12
Speaker 1: and then like throws up on the bus on the
• 32:13
  Speaker 1: way home.
• 32:14
Speaker 3: Exactly. I think I did like puke in the bathroom
• 32:17
Speaker 3: or something. But like if you're I think it was
• 32:19
Speaker 3: just the rebellion thing. Like if you're going to tell
• 32:21
Speaker 3: me what not to do, then I'm going to do it.
• 32:23
Speaker 3: So back then I was like crazy.
• 32:26
Speaker 1: First semester of your senior year, when you decided to
• 32:29
Speaker 1: drop your sorority, were you still able to go out
• 32:32
Speaker 1: and be a part of the social scene with Greek life?
• 32:35
Speaker 2: Or did you kind of just do your own thing?
• 32:37
Speaker 3: I had already had my friends by that point that
• 32:40
Speaker 3: weren't in my sorority. So I convinced my best friend
• 32:43
Speaker 3: who was my roommate to drop with me in solidarity.
• 32:48
Speaker 3: So when we dropped together, we were like, I remember
• 32:51
Speaker 3: the day that we dropped, it was like the happiest
• 32:54
Speaker 3: day of our life. Like we were like running out
• 32:57
Speaker 3: of the house, like screaming. We were so happy. And
• 32:59
Speaker 3: then we immediately went to the bar and posted with alcohol.
• 33:03
  Speaker 2: That's, that's like a big F you like, Hey, I'm out.
• 33:08
Speaker 3: I was like, I don't even care. Black square. Like
• 33:09
Speaker 3: you can black square this, but yeah, we like, I
• 33:13
Speaker 3: ended up having friends that weren't even in Greek life.
• 33:15
Speaker 3: And like, also I kind of resented the entire sorority
• 33:17
Speaker 3: because no one really like listened to me. And I
• 33:20
Speaker 3: also randomly had a crush on my big, The entire time.
• 33:24
Speaker 3: So she, I made her drop with me too. She
• 33:27
Speaker 3: had already, or no, she had already, because she was
• 33:28
Speaker 3: a fifth year. And I think that the three of
• 33:31
Speaker 3: us just became like a trio and we like ran
• 33:33
Speaker 3: around campus hating our sorority.
• 33:36
Speaker 1: Did any of your sorority sisters turn on you or
• 33:38
Speaker 1: treat you differently once you left?
• 33:42
Speaker 3: I would not have even cared or noticed because I
• 33:44
Speaker 3: like just stopped hanging out with them. The only people
• 33:46
Speaker 3: I hung out with were like people not in my
• 33:48
Speaker 3: sorority or like my big, who I was like in
• 33:50
Speaker 3: love with and then my best friend. So I, and
• 33:53
Speaker 3: I also like at that point was like really doing
• 33:56
Speaker 3: my own thing. And I really was embarrassed that I
• 33:58
Speaker 3: was even in a sorority at all. So I was
• 34:01
Speaker 3: just really anti. So I didn't care if they didn't
• 34:04
  Speaker 3: like me.
• 34:04
Speaker 1: Looking back on it now, do you think you joined
• 34:06
Speaker 1: the wrong sorority or do you think sorority life in
• 34:09
Speaker 1: general just wasn't the right fit for you?
• 34:12
Speaker 3: I think I joined the wrong sorority because I think
• 34:14
Speaker 3: if I was in, I just was watching my friends
• 34:17
Speaker 3: in really fun ones. Like there was Fuzzy on campus
• 34:20
Speaker 3: at the time, Alpha Z. I remember that was like,
• 34:23
Speaker 3: ended up being like the really cool one because they
• 34:25
Speaker 3: were like the party girls and they had no rules
• 34:27
Speaker 3: they could do whatever they wanted and they could have
• 34:29
Speaker 3: boys over and they could like go to frat parties
• 34:31
Speaker 3: and post it and like they were always hanging out
• 34:35
Speaker 3: with the older girls in the sorority and drinking with
• 34:36
Speaker 3: them and I think that they did like hazing things
• 34:38
Speaker 3: but in a fun way so I think if I
• 34:41
Speaker 3: had ended up joining fuzzy or something I would have
• 34:44
Speaker 3: like loved it and I think I would have followed
• 34:46
Speaker 3: the rules more if I didn't have that terrible experience
• 34:49
Speaker 3: with the girl that was like punishing me forever for
• 34:52
Speaker 3: giving this guy my number um I think that just
• 34:56
Speaker 3: set me up to like hate everyone in my sorority
• 34:58
Speaker 3: kind of except for like my close friends so yeah
• 35:01
  Speaker 3: I think I wish I joined a different one but
• 35:03
  Speaker 3: I didn't know how much I didn't know which sororities
• 35:07
Speaker 3: were the I should have like researched it like I
• 35:09
Speaker 3: think I did it wrong during recruitment by like ranking
• 35:13
Speaker 3: them wrong like I should have I just didn't know
• 35:16
Speaker 3: enough yet I have a lot of.
• 35:18
Speaker 1: Regrets No, I mean, you love and you learn and
• 35:21
Speaker 1: it brought you to where you are today. And now
• 35:23
Speaker 1: you have girls telling you that your story inspired them
• 35:29
Speaker 1: to leave their sorority while you also have other girls
• 35:32
Speaker 1: saying that you inspired them to rush. What is it
• 35:36
Speaker 1: like knowing that your experience has impacted people in such
• 35:39
  Speaker 1: different ways?
• 35:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, I do still get DMs from people telling me
• 35:44
Speaker 3: that and I always cannot believe it. I'm like, oh
• 35:46
Speaker 3: my God, that's so insane. I honestly think that if
• 35:49
Speaker 3: anyone wants to rush, they should. Like, I think that
• 35:52
Speaker 3: it really did. Obviously, I was like the bad kid
• 35:56
Speaker 3: in mine, but I had so much fun living in
• 36:00
Speaker 3: the house with those girls. And it also teaches you
• 36:02
Speaker 3: a lot about like social skill. You have to talk
• 36:07
Speaker 3: so much. It's just a really good life experience. I'm
• 36:10
Speaker 3: grateful that I did it, even though I sound like
• 36:12
Speaker 3: I'm not. It honestly made me like a smarter person.
• 36:16
Speaker 3: And it also gave me the like bravery to like
• 36:19
Speaker 3: not take that job because I had just like imagine
• 36:22
Speaker 3: when you're a freshman standing up to like older girls
• 36:25
Speaker 3: that are you're scared of I feel like that made
• 36:29
Speaker 3: me like more confident so the entire experience that made
• 36:32
Speaker 3: me realize that like people in power over you don't
• 36:35
Speaker 3: really have that much power because I kept not listening
• 36:38
Speaker 3: to them and I was fine like no one can
• 36:41
Speaker 3: like hurt you if you don't listen to rules so
• 36:44
Speaker 3: yeah I would say that I am glad that it
• 36:47
Speaker 3: like encourage people to either leave if they hate their
• 36:50
Speaker 3: sorority because life is better on the other side if
• 36:52
Speaker 3: you hate it. But also I do think that it's
• 36:55
Speaker 3: also fun. The whole thing was kind of fun because
• 36:57
Speaker 3: it isn't like serious. Like it's not like anything was
• 37:01
Speaker 3: life or death or like, you know, it was just
• 37:03
Speaker 3: it was a funny, fun anecdote that I have forever.
• 37:07
Speaker 3: And so I think that girls should, like, I'm not
• 37:09
Speaker 3: here to, like, tell girls not to because it was fun.
• 37:11
Speaker 1: So you were just on Unwell Summer Games. How was
• 37:14
Speaker 1: it filming that experience? And did that feel anything like
• 37:17
Speaker 1: being in a sorority house?
• 37:19
Speaker 3: Yeah, it definitely. Because you're, like, living, we were, like,
• 37:23
Speaker 3: living in Canada with people that we didn't really know.
• 37:28
Speaker 3: I didn't really know the girls. And it was really, like,
• 37:31
Speaker 3: scary because I was, like, they're so pretty and, like, cool.
• 37:35
Speaker 3: And I was, like, intimidated.
• 37:36
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 37:37
Speaker 3: But then once you get to know the girls, they become, like,
• 37:40
Speaker 3: your besties. And it's just, like, a reminder to, like,
• 37:43
Speaker 3: remember that everyone's human and girls, just because they're, like,
• 37:46
Speaker 3: really hot and cool, it doesn't mean that they don't
• 37:48
Speaker 3: want to be your friend. But, yeah, it was, like,
• 37:50
Speaker 3: a lot of, like, I was so scared because I
• 37:52
Speaker 3: was scared the girls would be mean. And there was
• 37:55
Speaker 3: a lot of drama. But luckily, my drama was only
• 37:58
Speaker 3: with the guys and not with any of the girls.
• 38:00
Speaker 3: But there were, like, some girls fighting.
• 38:02
Speaker 1: What advice would you give a girl going through recruitment
• 38:05
Speaker 1: right now who's devastated because her favorite house dropped her?
• 38:09
Speaker 3: Oh, my God. No, it won't matter at all. It's
• 38:14
Speaker 3: fine because even though I was in one that I
• 38:17
Speaker 3: wish I wasn't in, all sororities boil down to you're
• 38:21
Speaker 3: going to have fun. Even if it's the bottom to
• 38:23
Speaker 3: your house, you're still going to find cool girls in
• 38:26
Speaker 3: every house. And I remember like I wanted to be
• 38:28
Speaker 3: in Cayo, but like now I don't even think about that.
• 38:31
Speaker 3: Like then Fuzzy ended up being the one that I
• 38:33
Speaker 3: wanted to be in. But even though I hated my sorority,
• 38:36
  Speaker 3: I still made a lot of friends. So I don't
• 38:38
Speaker 3: think it mattered. I don't think which house you're actually
• 38:41
  Speaker 3: in ever matters.
• 38:42
Speaker 1: You end up figuring it out and you find your
• 38:44
Speaker 1: people as you go throughout college.
• 38:46
Speaker 3: Yeah, I could have been in any sorority and had fun, honestly,
• 38:50
Speaker 3: because there's normal girls in every single one. So and
• 38:52
  Speaker 3: it won't matter.
• 38:53
Speaker 2: No, you're right. It won't matter.
• 38:56
Speaker 1: Well, Becca, thank you so much for coming on Dirty Rush.
• 38:59
Speaker 1: This was such a great episode. I mean, this was
• 39:02
Speaker 1: definitely one of the funner episodes I've filmed with someone.
• 39:05
Speaker 2: Well, it was just funny because it was very entertaining
• 39:09
  Speaker 2: to hear you.
• 39:12
Speaker 1: Really just say you didn't like being told what to
• 39:14
Speaker 1: do and you really just rebelled against the rules. And
• 39:17
Speaker 1: it took you so long for one, them not to
• 39:19
Speaker 1: kick you out and two, like you finally just left.
• 39:22
Speaker 1: Like I'm Hearing all of this, I'm like, okay, so
• 39:26
Speaker 1: when did you drop or when did they kick you out?
• 39:29
  Speaker 2: And you're like, honestly, I didn't know I could leave.
• 39:31
Speaker 2: And I just ended up leaving my senior year. It
• 39:36
  Speaker 2: was really funny.
• 39:37
Speaker 1: But it's honestly, it's nice to know that now it
• 39:41
Speaker 1: kind of gave you the strength to be who you are.
• 39:44
Speaker 1: And you always just never wanted anyone else to kind
• 39:49
Speaker 1: of shade you away from being who you really are
• 39:51
  Speaker 1: so yeah I.
• 39:53
Speaker 3: Mean I honestly telling the story back again I do
• 39:56
Speaker 3: think I might have been in the wrong but still
• 39:58
Speaker 3: I'm okay so no matter what the girls are going
• 40:01
Speaker 3: through during rush right now I'm like watching the videos
• 40:04
Speaker 3: and they're getting so stressed out it literally does not
• 40:06
  Speaker 3: matter you.
• 40:07
Speaker 1: Will be okay you'll be fine well Becca thank you
• 40:11
  Speaker 1: so much.
• 40:12
Speaker 3: Thank you so much this was so fun it was
• 40:14
Speaker 3: nice to meet you.
• 40:14
Speaker 1: Nice to meet you as well And that's it for
