Transcript
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Hey everyone, welcome back to the Reborn Podcast.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: I'm Tony Beutros, your host.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: If this is your first time tuning in, welcome to the show.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: I am a 20-year-old entrepreneur actively pursuing growth in every aspect of life, spiritually, personally, and professionally.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: My journey to Christ uh began in October 2023, and since then I've been passionate about sharing the lessons I've learned along the way.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Today we're diving into a topic that many entrepreneurs, leaders, and even those in ministry struggle with burnout.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: It's something I can sneak up on you, especially when you're pouring yourself into multiple areas of life.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: We're going to talk about what energizes you, the importance of nature, worship, and how to ensure you're equally pouring into and out of your cup.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: If you've been feeling drained, overwhelmed, or just plain exhausted, this episode is for you.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Let's jump.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: Let's get real for a minute.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Burnout is not just about being tired.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: It's about being completely depleted physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: It's something that can happen when you're constantly on the go, striving for success, and trying to juggle multiple responsibilities without taking time to recharge.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: I know this feeling all too well.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Before my business started to gain traction, I was running in circles, trying different ventures, and facing constant rejection, my zero base all commissioned sales job.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: I was grinding nonstop, thinking that the harder I worked, the closer I get to my goals, but instead I found myself on the brink of burnout, feeling empty and questioning my purpose.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Matthew eleven and eight through twenty at Matthew eleven and twenty-eight through thirty comes to mind when I think about this.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Jesus says, Come to me, all you who are wary and burden, and I will give you rest.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: These verses remind us that we don't have to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: God is inviting us to rest in Him, to learn from Him, and to find our true source of energy and purpose in His presence.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Now, let's talk about energy.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: What truly energizes you?
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Not just the physical energy you get from a good night's sleep or a strong cup of coffee, but the kind of energy that fuels your soul and keeps you going even when things get tough.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: For me, that energy comes from being aligned with my purpose, which is rooted in my relationship with Christ.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Before I found Christ, I was constantly seeking fulfillment in my work, in achievements, and in material success.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: But no matter how much I achieved, it was never enough.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: I was exhausted, burned out, and spiritually bankrupt.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: When I gave my life to Christ in October 2023, everything changed.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: Suddenly I had a source of energy that was limitless, a sense of purpose that went beyond my own ambitions.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: I realized that true energy doesn't come from what you do, but from who you are in Christ.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: So ask yourself what truly energizes it, energizes you?
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Is it your work?
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Your goals, your achievements, or is it your relationship with God, your time spent in His Word, in prayer, and in worship?
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: The answer to this question will determine whether you're headed towards burnout or towards a life of balance and fulfillment.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Psalm 46 and 10 says, be still and know that I am God.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: This verse is a powerful reminder that sometimes the most productive thing we can do is simply be still, to rest in God's presence and allow Him to recharge us.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: One of the most effective ways I've found to combat burnout is to connect with God throughout nature, through nature, and worship.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: There's something incredibly powerful about stepping away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and immersing yourself in God's creation.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: I'm based in Harmel, Indiana, and one of my favorite things to do when I'm feeling overwhelmed is to take a walk in the local parks.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: There's something about being surrounded by God's creation, the trees, the sky, the fresh air that just brings a sense of peace and perspective.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: I've been talking with one of my sisters in Christ recently a lot about uh different songs that we enjoy, different worship songs and just price-based songs.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: And they're all great, but I believe that the best song you will ever hear is the song of nature that you hear when you're walking in those parks.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: The trees, the the breeze, the birds chirping, all the nature around you that is God's creation.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Recently I was feeling burned out.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: And so usually I work more than a typical person, but because I'm an entrepreneur and because I make my own schedule, I'm blessed with the uh ability, the luxury to go out and take a day off when I need to.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: And so I did.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: I was feeling burnt out, I was feeling overwhelmed, I was feeling uh poor mental health, you know, depressed about current circumstances, anxious about future circumstances, and so I felt I needed a day in surrounded by God and his creation.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: And so I went to one of my parks that I really enjoy, Holiday Park in Indianapolis, Indiana, uh, that I went to every pretty much every week in growing up.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: And this park brings back childhood memories, it helps me bring out my inner child, and it helps me remember what's truly important in life versus what seems important, what can distract us in our day-to-day lives.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: So strongly encourage you to get in nature and also when you are in nature, not a must, but sometimes journaling can help.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: And other times, or I think all the time, don't go outside and listen to music.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: Don't go outside and listen to podcasts most of the time.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: I I'm outside very a lot, so sometimes I do, but the the best way to get a nature is to go outside and just walk and listen to nature, be fully engaged.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: And I physically, I'll say, Lord, come into this walk with me.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: And and I'll pray and I'll just be very mindful about being with him versus being in that music, being in that podcast, etc.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Romans 1 and 20 tells us for since the creation of the world, God's invisible qualities, his eternal power, and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made so that people are without excuse.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: Nature is a reflection of God's power and majesty, and spending time in it can help us reconnect with him in a profound way.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Worship is another powerful tool.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: When I feel drained, I turn on some worship music.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: And just let the lyrics wash over me.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: It's amazing how focusing on God's goodness, his love, and his faithfulness can completely shift your perspective and renew your energy.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: Worship is more than just singing songs.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: It's about surrendering your heart to God and allowing him to fill you with his spirit.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: John 4 and 24 says, God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the spirit and in truth.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: When we worship in spirit and truth, we open ourselves to God's presence.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: And that's where true refreshment and renewal happen.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: I think the second part of that, his worshipers must worship in the spirit and in truth is so crucial because oftentimes we can find ourselves just singing the words, not bringing the not taking them in and not living them.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: So we can say, oh God, you are almighty.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: God, you are my everything.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: I give all I am to you.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: And if we're if we don't actually mean it, if we're not actually living it, then really it's it's not gonna help us.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: Pouring into and out of your cup.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about balance.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: One of the biggest mistakes I made early on was constantly pouring out without taking time to fill my own cup.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: I was giving everything I had, my business, my ministry, my personal development, but I wasn't taking the time to recharge.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: The result?
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: Burnout.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Mark 12 and 30 through one gives us the greatest commandments.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: And second is this love your neighbor as yourself.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: There is no commandment greater than these.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: Notice order here.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: First, we love God.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: Then we love others as we love ourselves.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: You can't truly pour into others if you're running on it on empty yourself.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: I am a big fan of John Maxwell, just finished his book, Developing the Leader Within You.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: Uh great book, highly recommend it.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: And in the book, one of the things he says is a leader can only lead as far as he's gone.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Likewise, if your cup is empty, you can't pour anything that's empty.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: And so I think of a physical cup, I'm drinking water, let's say, let's say it's with a straw, I'm drinking water with a straw.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: How much harder, even if you have a tiny bit left, how much harder is it to get that tiny bit left out to pour it out than when you're filled with abundance?
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: And I want to uh clarify, this is not selfish to fill your own cup.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Going in community, having people pour into you, that is not selfish.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: In a way, that's actually selfless.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: And the reason why is because it allows you to better serve others.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: You cannot give what you do not have.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: So, how do you ensure you're equally pouring into and out of your cup?
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: First and foremost, prioritize your relationship with God.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: I suggest starting your day with prayer and scripture.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: Make it a habit to seek God's presence before you do anything else.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: I personally typically wake up early, 4:30, 5:30 in the morning, and I will pray, I will read the scripture, I will uh take a cold shower and just kind of get rejuvenated for the day.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: Then when the sun comes out, I try to go grounding, just basically barefoot in the grass, um, some light stretching, more prayer, etc.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: Um, and then I get into my creative stuff.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: I get into writing my book, um, and so on.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: And then hours later, that's when the workday starts.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: So I have these, you know, three, four, five hours before the workday starts that I am being productive, I'm eating, I'm uh I'm spending time in the word and with the Lord.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: And so my mind is set on him.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: So prioritize your relationship with God.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: Number two, set boundaries.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: Know your limits.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: It's okay to say no to certain commitments if it means protecting your health and well-being.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: For me, I love pouring into others.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: I find a lot of fulfillment in it, I find a lot of purpose.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: Um, and others specifically that are looking to improve for people who are just listening or maybe not even listening, um, and they're not taking action on you know things that you're talking about, things that you're pouring into them, then it can be very draining.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: But I really enjoy pouring into others who take action on what you're saying, on what you're pouring into them.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: But I found myself sometimes burned out because I'm taking more time to pour into others, which is great, but I'm not taking enough time to have others pour into me.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: Uh, and I am very, very blessed with a great community of people who I can mentor and people who uh who mentor me.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: And so um I have both ends of the spectrum, and it's just important to make sure that you're balancing both.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: And number three is practice self-care.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: This could be physical exercise, spending time in nature, or simply taking a break when you need it.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: Self-care, again, is not selfish, it's necessary for sustainability.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: And again, it will help you serve others better.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: You cannot give what you do not have.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: If you're feeling drained and you want to energize others and you want to motivate them, and you want to, you know, make them feel good, but you don't have any of those things going on for yourself, you know, it's gonna be very, very difficult.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: Um and the second thing there is spending time in nature, that is exercise.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: I more so look at spending time in nature as meditation, as prayer time, as uh everyone talks about you know, it's important to have quiet time with the Lord.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: That is more so why I spend time in nature, but it's also great exercise.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: Uh and number four, surround yourself with support.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: Have a community around you that can encourage you, hold you accountable, and lift you up in prayer.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: The last part, lift you up in prayer.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: What comes before you can be lifted up in prayer is being open, transparent, honest, and authentic with your community.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: There are issues that are difficult and uncomfortable for us to talk about.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: But when we do, when we bring it to our brothers and our sisters, that's where real transformation happens.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: Um personally, I've overcome multiple big, big things, big, big sins by bringing them to my community, such as lust.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: Um, I prayed over that.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: I had been sh I had been trying for uh years and and and was never able to sustain it until I brought it to my brothers and had that community around me versus uh being self-accountable.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: So, how how do you ensure you're equally pouring into and out of your cup?
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: Number one, prioritize your relationship with God.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: Number two, set boundaries.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: Number three, practice self-care, and number four, surround yourself with support.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: Proverbs four and twenty thys, above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: Guarding your heart means protecting your energy, your spirit, and your relationship with God.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: When you do that, you're able to pour it from a place of abundance rather than scarcity.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: All right, let's bring it all together with some practical steps you can apply today to overcome burnout and live a life of balance and energy.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: Number one, identify your source of energy.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: Reflect on what truly energizes you and make sure it's something that aligns with your values and your faith.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: Number two, connect with God in nature and worship.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: Take time each week to unplug and connect with God through nature and worship.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: It will refresh your soul and give you a renewed sense of purpose.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: Number three, balance pouring in and out.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: Make sure you're not just giving, but also receiving.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: And this is true.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: But again, you cannot give what you do not have.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: So if you are constantly pouring out and not being poured into, then you would not be able to pour out as effectively, make the impact you want to make, etc.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: Uh, spend time with God, take care of yourself, and surround yourself with the supportive community.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: That's the great thing about God is I can go read a book.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: Uh I can go read the book, and after I'm done reading the book, I'm poured into.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: After I'm done praying, I'm poured into.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: After I'm done uh worshiping, I'm poured into.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: Now I think it is also important to have these mentors in your life who have walked the path ahead of you, who can speak into you, who you can pour into you.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: Because they will give you the wisdom uh through their words, but really from Christ.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: Uh, and number four, regularly assess your priorities.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: Make it a habit to regularly check in with yourself.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: Are you prioritizing the right things?
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: Are you staying connected to your purpose?
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: Adjust as needed to stay on course.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: Remember, burnout is not something that just happens overnight.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: It's a result of prolonged imbalance.
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: But by staying connected to God, knowing what energizes you, and ensuring you're equally pouring into and out of your cup, you can live a life that's not just productive, but fulfilling and sustainable.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: Galatians 6 and 9 encourages us.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: Let us not become weary in doing good.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: For at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: Stay strong, stay focused, and trust that God is with you every step in the way.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: So four practical steps.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: Again, identify your source of energy.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: Number two, connect with God and nature and worship.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: Number three, balance pouring in and out.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: And number four, regularly assess your priorities.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: As we wrap up today's episode, I want to encourage you to take action.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: Don't wait until you're on the brink of burnout to start making changes.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: Begin today by reconnecting with what truly energizes you, spending time with God and ensuring you're living a life of balance.
