- 0:00Speaker 1: Howdy ho, boys and girls. 507 News Radio 570 WKV8.
- 0:04Speaker 2: What did he say? Who the hell knows?
- 0:06Speaker 1: Ron Furb on News Radio 570 WKVN from the Kingdom
- 0:09Speaker 1: of Mahoning. Here till 5.30 tonight is when I think,
- 0:14Speaker 1: I think, yes.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Guardians have the pregame. You're on the air.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Okay, I'm going to make it quick, Ron, okay?
- 0:22Speaker 4: Yes, go ahead.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Now I know how come the boss loves you. Because
- 0:28Speaker 3: I was watching some of the tweets that Trump did,
- 0:33Speaker 3: and he was really mad at Fox because they had
- 0:35Speaker 3: a Democrat on there, and he lost an $ 18 million
- 0:38Speaker 3: lawsuit against him. He's like, man, Fox is going to—
- 0:42Speaker 3: But one thing about you, Ron, you allow Democrats to call.
- 0:47Speaker 3: And you allow Democrats to say what they want to say.
- 0:51Speaker 3: And for that, I love the way you stand your ground,
- 0:53Speaker 3: because people get mad at you, right? But I want
- 0:56Speaker 3: you to know, I appreciate you taking my call. And
- 0:59Speaker 3: one more quick thing. I went to an office one time.
- 1:02Speaker 3: The guy told me, he said, look here, man, why
- 1:05Speaker 3: should I keep paying you this when I can voice
- 1:06Speaker 3: track it and have somebody work from home? You have
- 1:09Speaker 3: to take this. I lost that job.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Have a good day, Ron.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Thank you. NewsRadio 570 WQEN, you're on the air.
- 1:17Speaker 5: Hey, Ron, I'll tell you how to improve advertising revenue.
- 1:21Speaker 5: Give Alec his own show.
- 1:24Speaker 4: That guy's great.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Oh, he's great.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I think he adds great insight to the program. Yeah,
- 1:30Speaker 1: I mean, he's a quality caller.
- 1:32Speaker 2: And then there's you.
- 1:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I know, I know. You'd be able to filter
- 1:37Speaker 5: me out by now. Hey, but unlike, I mean, just
- 1:41Speaker 5: like Fort Lauderdale, Frank, I interrupted my day to call in, Ron, so...
- 1:47Speaker 5: Little respect, huh?
- 1:48Speaker 2: Well, I'm sorry. You're right. I apologize.
- 1:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:53Speaker 5: Hey, you said you heard, you know, Trump on the
- 1:57Speaker 5: news that he said about the inflation.
- 2:01Speaker 4: He doesn't care.
- 2:01Speaker 5: I mean, the guy's got a lot going on. And
- 2:05Speaker 5: he also said that it's just temporary. So you kind
- 2:10Speaker 5: of took that out of context.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Okay, back up. Say that again. You thought I took
- 2:18Speaker 2: Trump's quote out of context?
- 2:21Speaker 5: Yeah, because he said it's just temporary until the war
- 2:25Speaker 5: is over.
- 2:27Speaker 4: He's worried about.
- 2:28Speaker 5: Them having a bomb. I think he's just worried about
- 2:33Speaker 5: Getting this conflict over with right now. I think he's
- 2:36Speaker 5: trying to resolve it in some way.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Right.
- 2:38Speaker 1: But define temporary. Remember, that was the same stuff we
- 2:42Speaker 1: heard from Biden with its transitory. And it wasn't temporary.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Let me say this to you. Like I said, under
- 2:50Speaker 1: no circumstances would I vote for a Democrat. I would
- 2:52Speaker 1: never vote for Sherrod Brown. So contrary to my criticism,
- 2:56Speaker 1: I would support the Republicans. They're a far better choice.
- 2:59Speaker 1: But the reality is you can't tell me that in
- 3:02Speaker 1: his own mind he didn't think this would be over
- 3:04Speaker 1: much sooner than it is. I'm sure he thought that
- 3:08Speaker 1: this would be over and not dragging on as long
- 3:11Speaker 1: as it is.
- 3:13Speaker 6: And I..
- 3:14Speaker 1: Am also concerned over the constant rhetoric to say a
- 3:17Speaker 1: deal's close, a deal's close, a deal's close. With all
- 3:21Speaker 1: due respect, we've heard that for weeks and weeks and weeks,
- 3:25Speaker 1: and nothing has materialized. So now we're back to talking
- 3:28Speaker 1: about doing some more bombing. Well, okay, I just asked
- 3:32Speaker 1: the question. If we bomb them some more, do you
- 3:34Speaker 1: think the deal's going to get done then? Because we
- 3:37Speaker 1: bombed them a hell of a lot, and they're not
- 3:40Speaker 1: sitting there saying, oh, we're ready to make a deal.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Listen, I think..
- 3:44Speaker 1: Iran's in a tough position with their economy and not
- 3:52Speaker 1: money coming in and the oil. I think they're in
- 3:54Speaker 1: a terrible position. But are they willing to just wait
- 3:57Speaker 1: it out and let it ride, knowing that we don't
- 4:01Speaker 1: live there, we'll have to leave? Do they have that resolve?
- 4:06Speaker 1: I don't understand their culture. I can't think how I
- 4:10Speaker 1: would think. They think much differently than I do. It's
- 4:12Speaker 1: a whole different culture. But I will say this. I
- 4:15Speaker 1: will say this when they say it's temporary. Well, hey,
- 4:18Speaker 1: temporary doesn't ease the pain of my wallet. Temporary doesn't
- 4:22Speaker 1: ease $ 4. 70 gas, and it doesn't– I mean, I'm not
- 4:26Speaker 1: making this stuff up. I'm reading it right here in
- 4:28Speaker 1: front of me. Traders believe inflation could near 5% this year.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Markets raise chances for a Fed rate hike following this
- 4:36Speaker 1: hot inflation. It's not just oil, but it's inflation everywhere else.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Those are the headlines today. on CNBC, and then I
- 4:43Speaker 1: scan down and I take a look at, hey, how's
- 4:46Speaker 1: your 401k doing today? S & P down, NASDAQ down,
- 4:50Speaker 1: Russell down, Dow is up. I mean, and define temporary.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Is temporary six months from now? Is it a year
- 4:58Speaker 1: from now? I mean, what is temporary? How long are
- 5:04Speaker 1: you willing to say, I back up and I just say, listen,
- 5:09Speaker 1: I think Israel got us into this mess. I genuinely do.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I think they talked him into it. And I don't
- 5:15Speaker 1: think it's ending as quick as he thought it would end.
- 5:18Speaker 1: And I think maybe they are thinking we got him
- 5:22Speaker 1: where we want him and we very well might.
- 5:23Speaker 2: But maybe we've, who knows? Who knows?
- 5:27Speaker 1: But this can't go on for six months or a
- 5:29Speaker 1: year because who can afford it? both from a country
- 5:35Speaker 1: standpoint and an individual standpoint. Prior to him doing this,
- 5:39Speaker 1: I acknowledge I was not up at night worried about
- 5:42Speaker 1: Iran having a nuclear weapon or afraid to go to sleep.
- 5:46Speaker 1: That was not a major concern. And I think many
- 5:49Speaker 1: people are saying it now only because the media has
- 5:52Speaker 1: droned on it so much and is almost doing a
- 5:55Speaker 1: sales pitch in the Trump administration is on why you
- 5:59Speaker 1: should care about this. I think it was of concern
- 6:01Speaker 1: to Israel more than it is the United States.
- 6:06Speaker 5: Ronny, Ronny, I don't blame you for voting for Barack
- 6:09Speaker 5: Hussein Obama, who started all this stuff way back in
- 6:13Speaker 5: the day with the coal mines and all that. But
- 6:17Speaker 5: that was just a slight bump on you, Ronny.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 6:22Speaker 5: I'll never vote for a Democrat. You voted for the
- 6:25Speaker 5: worst one.
- 6:25Speaker 1: You're right, because I can't stand Mitt Romney, but I
- 6:28Speaker 1: won't let him make that mistake again.
- 6:30Speaker 5: Hey, but on the, like, I guess it was the
- 6:34Speaker 5: 5 o'clock headlines. They said that some guy, he decided
- 6:39Speaker 5: to commit suicide by jumping in front of like an
- 6:44Speaker 5: Airbus 383 jet. I mean, if you're going to go out,
- 6:48Speaker 5: I guess you've got to go pretty big, right?
- 6:52Speaker 1: Yeah, they say that the engine sucked him in. And
- 6:58Speaker 1: by sucking him in, it broke, actually harmed the engine.
- 7:03Speaker 1: by breaking all the fan blades out of it because
- 7:05Speaker 1: of a suck in a minute.
- 7:09Speaker 5: When people say that we've got to get rid of
- 7:11Speaker 5: guns because too many suicides, well, what's next? We're going
- 7:15Speaker 5: to get rid of airplanes and jets? You've just got
- 7:18Speaker 5: to get rid of the crazy people.
- 7:20Speaker 6: Right.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know if you're a trespasser trying
- 7:23Speaker 1: to commit suicide. They say suicide, but there's a much
- 7:26Speaker 1: easier way to go than that way. That would be
- 7:27Speaker 1: a horrible death.
- 7:30Speaker 5: Unless you want to be on the news.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I mean, it seemed to me you'd want to OD
- 7:33Speaker 1: if you want to commit suicide as opposed to saying, hey,
- 7:37Speaker 1: I'm going to get sucked in a jet engine.
- 7:38Speaker 2: That's got to hurt until it's all over.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Like the one guy that jumped off the freeway bridge
- 7:45Speaker 1: thinking he'd end his life and he jumped off the
- 7:47Speaker 1: bridge and he survived and he died when the truck
- 7:50Speaker 1: ran him, an 18-wheeler ran him over.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Well, that had to hurt.
- 7:55Speaker 5: Well, he fulfilled his mission, I guess.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Yeah, but there's got to be a better way.
- 8:01Speaker 5: Hey, you were talking about AI and, you know, all
- 8:04Speaker 5: AI eliminating jobs. And then I don't know if it
- 8:10Speaker 5: was Arnold the other night that said that, you know,
- 8:13Speaker 5: once all the high-paying jobs are out of the way
- 8:17Speaker 5: and you're a plumber, you're not going to get a job. Well,
- 8:20Speaker 5: I was thinking about that, and I think the only
- 8:23Speaker 5: real job that you have job security in, is being
- 8:29Speaker 5: a medical professional, a nurse, a doctor, because people are
- 8:35Speaker 5: going to need them. And I think they'll always be employed.
- 8:40Speaker 5: I think that morticianers, I think they're going out of
- 8:45Speaker 5: business because people are just getting burnt now.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Right. It's changed.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Funerals have gotten so expensive, a lot of people just
- 8:52Speaker 1: go with cremation because they can't afford a funeral.
- 8:55Speaker 4: Right.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Let's just say economics. People have to adjust to things
- 9:00Speaker 1: because things become so costly.
- 9:02Speaker 7: But don't worry.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Whatever they do for you, I'll say a few kind words.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Well, I would hope so, Ronnie.
- 9:10Speaker 2: And guess what?
- 9:11Speaker 1: Whatever they do, when it's your time, I'll say, the
- 9:14Speaker 1: unknown caller was a great contributor and a great man.
- 9:18Speaker 1: But as I look at your urn, I'll say, but
- 9:21Speaker 1: he has to go.
- 9:22Speaker 4: Well, yeah, exactly.
- 9:24Speaker 8: Exactly.
- 9:26Speaker 5: At least you could say I was AI, all right?
- 9:29Speaker 5: Almost intelligent. Okay, just put those words in there, Ronnie.
- 9:32Speaker 2: You got it. You got it.
- 9:34Speaker 4: All right, I got to go.
- 9:35Speaker 2: He's always got to go. I don't know why he's
- 9:37Speaker 2: in such a hurry. You're on the air.
- 9:39Speaker 6: Ronald.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Ted the Conservative.
- 9:42Speaker 5: Boy, oh boy.
- 9:43Speaker 4: I try to live life and get away from calling
- 9:45Speaker 4: this program, and you just keep sucking me back in.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I tell you, that's what it's all about. How's the leg, Ted?
- 9:53Speaker 4: Okay, the leg's good. Got some grass cut today. Good.
- 9:57Speaker 4: I'm listening to the Ron Verb Show.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Yes.
- 10:00Speaker 4: I'm getting irritated. I'm like, just ignore it and go
- 10:03Speaker 4: about it.
- 10:04Speaker 2: No, no, no. What seems to be bothering you? Speak
- 10:07Speaker 2: your piece, please.
- 10:08Speaker 4: Well, was that the unknown caller before me?
- 10:11Speaker 2: Yes, it was.
- 10:13Speaker 4: He pointed it out. You know, the same guy who
- 10:17Speaker 4: voted for Barack Obama... Now sounds like he's still living
- 10:21Speaker 4: during the days of Barack Obama. You're becoming a good
- 10:26Speaker 4: microphone for the Democrat Party. All they've got to do
- 10:29Speaker 4: is listen to your monologue, if we call it that,
- 10:32Speaker 4: and take bits and pieces of it. Now, let's start
- 10:35Speaker 4: with point one. Trump's comments about not caring about anything.
- 10:42Speaker 4: Those were taken out of context, so I want to
- 10:43Speaker 4: correct you because you keep repeating the The narrative that
- 10:47Speaker 4: the left... As soon as I heard it, I'm like, well,
- 10:49Speaker 4: there goes the left. They're going to take a snippet
- 10:51Speaker 4: of this and run it all day. Not only are
- 10:53Speaker 4: they doing it, but Ron Verbe's doing it. It's like
- 10:57Speaker 4: I take one step forward with you..
- 10:59Speaker 1: Well, I heard it at 3 o'clock when I'm sitting
- 11:01Speaker 1: in my studio chair. Explain what he said then. Go
- 11:04Speaker 1: ahead and explain it.
- 11:05Speaker 9: Stop.
- 11:07Speaker 4: He was being escorted to begin his trip to China.
- 11:11Speaker 4: And as you know, being the most transparent president... not
- 11:16Speaker 4: only of our lifetime, but in the history of our country,
- 11:20Speaker 4: he's fielding questions and answering them. He's getting hit, and
- 11:23Speaker 4: he just keeps answering them because that's who he is.
- 11:25Speaker 4: He doesn't hide behind people. You never have to worry
- 11:30Speaker 4: about what he's thinking because he'll tell you. But he
- 11:32Speaker 4: was getting peppered with questions about Iran, the economy, some
- 11:37Speaker 4: guy who just resigned from the administration, and he's answering
- 11:41Speaker 4: these questions as fast as they're coming at him. So
- 11:45Speaker 4: in a questioning about the economy, it then pivoted to Iran.
- 11:50Speaker 4: And then it was, will you, something to the effect,
- 11:54Speaker 4: and I'm not quoting him, so something to the effect of,
- 11:57Speaker 4: will you allow the current conditions of inflation affect your
- 12:02Speaker 4: decision-making with Iran? And he said no. And I'm glad
- 12:07Speaker 4: he said no. Because he's got a job to do,
- 12:10Speaker 4: and the job is to get rid of these nuclear weapons.
- 12:13Speaker 4: So when he said, I'm not going to be concerned
- 12:17Speaker 4: about inflation or the cost of living, he was referring
- 12:22Speaker 4: to when he's making a decision with Iran. He's not
- 12:25Speaker 4: telling Ron Verbin and the JJs of the world that
- 12:28Speaker 4: he doesn't care about you. Now you got JJ thinking
- 12:31Speaker 4: that's what he said. And you know, JJ and Frank
- 12:35Speaker 4: and Emmanuel, those guys are just looking for you to
- 12:37Speaker 4: give them something. You know, like you throw that bird
- 12:39Speaker 4: a cracker and they'll come eat and they'll run and
- 12:42Speaker 4: they'll just be happy and go lucky. So he did
- 12:46Speaker 4: not say he doesn't care about America. He said he
- 12:49Speaker 4: will not let any other factors affect his decision-making when
- 12:53Speaker 4: it comes to Iran. And that's the kind of leader
- 12:56Speaker 4: I want. I don't want a guy who puts his
- 12:58Speaker 4: finger in the air and makes a decision based on
- 13:00Speaker 4: the people screaming the loudest You were talking about that yesterday.
- 13:05Speaker 4: You said people are against the war. Well, people are
- 13:08Speaker 4: against a lot of things. The loudest voice, does that
- 13:11Speaker 4: make them the right voice, the correct voice?
- 13:13Speaker 10: No.
- 13:13Speaker 4: And sometimes people don't have the information to make proper decisions.
- 13:19Speaker 4: You know, if a guy tells you, Ron, I'm going
- 13:22Speaker 4: to commit suicide, I'm going to go walk off this bridge,
- 13:27Speaker 4: isn't it your right to try to help him and
- 13:29Speaker 4: save him and help him make a decision so he
- 13:31Speaker 4: doesn't walk off the bridge? Yeah, some people can't help themselves.
- 13:37Speaker 4: You know, some people are just too dumb to help themselves.
- 13:41Speaker 4: We elect leaders to make decisions. You know, I've gotten
- 13:44Speaker 4: to the point where I filter out the things that
- 13:47Speaker 4: really used to irritate me with Trump. I remember when
- 13:50Speaker 4: I was the only guy who was critical of him
- 13:51Speaker 4: on your program and I used to get attacked by
- 13:53Speaker 4: the megacalls. Well, I've grown. When he calls someone a
- 13:57Speaker 4: dumb person like he did today, I just shake my
- 13:59Speaker 4: head and I ignore it. because that's just who he is.
- 14:02Speaker 4: Those are the kind of things that upset me about
- 14:04Speaker 4: Donald Trump. His narcissistic personality, his stupid comments, like calling
- 14:10Speaker 4: reporters dumb. Those are the things that bother me. But
- 14:13Speaker 4: when it comes to making decisions that are best for
- 14:16Speaker 4: our country and America first, I trust him completely. I
- 14:19Speaker 4: don't worry at night when I go to bed. I
- 14:22Speaker 4: know he's going to do the right thing. Now today,
- 14:24Speaker 4: another example, inflation, CPI. You know, I really believe that
- 14:31Speaker 4: The media sometimes is so anxious to try to nail
- 14:34Speaker 4: Trump that sometimes they don't realize they're promoting him. So
- 14:39Speaker 4: what do I mean when I say that? OK, well,
- 14:42Speaker 4: we've been telling you I've been telling you since Trump's
- 14:44Speaker 4: been president that real wages are finally out gaining inflation.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Nobody else was telling you that. I've been telling you
- 14:51Speaker 4: that for months upon months upon months. How the liberal
- 14:54Speaker 4: media is painting this doom and gloom picture.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Hold that thought. Hold that thought. Ted, the conservative, back
- 14:59Speaker 1: with him. After the break, we're on Verb News Radio
- 15:03Speaker 1: 570 WKBN.
- 15:04Speaker 2: 522 in the afternoon. We're at 68 degrees. News Radio
- 15:07Speaker 2: 570 WKBN.
- 15:08Speaker 1: All right, so just to clarify, just to back up here.
- 15:13Speaker 2: So what Trump said was..
- 15:17Speaker 1: He's not worried about inflation or the price of gas
- 15:21Speaker 1: or the price of groceries.
- 15:25Speaker 2: When it comes to Iran and a nuclear weapon, right?
- 15:30Speaker 4: When it comes to making a decision on Iran, he's
- 15:34Speaker 4: not going to let that decision be clouded by other
- 15:37Speaker 4: things going on. It's Iran. If you want to talk
- 15:41Speaker 4: about inflation, he'll talk to you about inflation. He will
- 15:45Speaker 4: not allow anything to distract him when it comes to Iran.
- 15:48Speaker 4: He won't give in. He won't put his finger in
- 15:50Speaker 4: the air and say, well, Ron Webb's really beating me
- 15:53Speaker 4: up because of the price of gas. So I'm going
- 15:55Speaker 4: to allow Iran to just have this bomb and just,
- 15:58Speaker 4: you know, and pray that another 9-11 doesn't happen. So
- 16:01Speaker 4: he's not listening to guys like you screaming at him
- 16:03Speaker 4: every day. He's going to do what he thinks is right.
- 16:05Speaker 4: And that's why we elect these people, right? If you
- 16:07Speaker 4: don't like him, vote him out of office. Hey, put Kamala.
- 16:10Speaker 4: If you're so upset with Donald Trump, Get him impeached,
- 16:13Speaker 4: and let's bring in the Democrats and give them back
- 16:16Speaker 4: the power, because they're the ones that created this mess.
- 16:19Speaker 4: So I know we're going to run out of time.
- 16:20Speaker 4: I wanted to talk to you about current inflation, wage growth.
- 16:24Speaker 4: One thing they admitted when attacking him today, wow, for
- 16:27Speaker 4: the first time during Trump's presidency, real wage growth is
- 16:33Speaker 4: outpaced by inflation. They wouldn't tell you that for the
- 16:36Speaker 4: last year and a half, that wage growth had outpaced inflation.
- 16:40Speaker 4: But now they have an opportunity to use it against them,
- 16:43Speaker 4: so they say that part out loud.
- 16:46Speaker 11: Okay?
- 16:46Speaker 4: Core inflation. I don't know what the heck Frank talks
- 16:49Speaker 4: about when he calls you sometimes, because it just doesn't
- 16:51Speaker 4: make sense to me. When the Federal Reserve makes decisions,
- 16:54Speaker 4: they don't look at CPI. CPI is a volatile index.
- 17:00Speaker 4: It comes out monthly. It includes fuel. It includes food.
- 17:06Speaker 4: who can be affected by many variable outside elements, war,
- 17:10Speaker 4: the price of fuel, cattle shortage that affects beef prices. OK,
- 17:15Speaker 4: all those things affect CPI. Your core inflation is still
- 17:19Speaker 4: under 3 percent, 2.8 percent. So when you when you
- 17:23Speaker 4: when you cite these sources talking about inflation going to
- 17:26Speaker 4: 5 percent, I don't know what they're talking about, core inflation, CPI.
- 17:32Speaker 4: Everyone kept saying that we're going to have $ 200 a

- 20:32Speaker 9: Let's go back to baseball tonight.
- 20:34Speaker 8: Going to give you the Philadelphia Phillies on the money
- 20:36Speaker 8: line is my play of the day. Now, this is
- 20:38Speaker 8: the battle of two teams who have already fired their manager,
- 20:41Speaker 8: and the Phillies are making it count. They've won four
- 20:44Speaker 8: straight series. Zach Wheeler's making it count as well. He's
- 20:46Speaker 8: come back from injury. His pitch count continues to go up.
- 20:49Speaker 8: He's gone for two straight quality starts. Brian Baio has
- 20:52Speaker 8: not done well. He pitched well last time, but his
- 20:54Speaker 8: ERA is over 7. The Phillies' bullpen is better as well. Philadelphia, Moneyline,
- 20:59Speaker 8: that's going to be my play of the day. Now
- 21:01Speaker 8: you can join me when you download the Bet365 app
- 21:03Speaker 8: at this or any Moneyline all season long. Your team

- 21:19Speaker 14: What a job by Aleman in his major league debut.
- 21:23Speaker 14: Two shutout innings by the big right-hander.
- 21:27Speaker 12: Welcome back to Guardians Warm-Up. Franco Aleman joining us after
- 21:32Speaker 12: his major league debut on Sunday. Two scoreless innings, and Franco,
- 21:37Speaker 12: I know it's something you dream about for a long time,
- 21:39Speaker 12: and I'm going to guess that may have lived up
- 21:41Speaker 12: to everything you expected?
- 21:43Speaker 13: Best day of my life. Everything that I was hoping for.
- 21:45Speaker 10: Honestly, even better than I could have ever imagined. Family
- 21:49Speaker 10: being here.
- 21:50Speaker 13: Great weather. Awesome fans. Good crowd. Day game. It was great.
- 21:57Speaker 12: You worked so hard to get here. What do you
- 22:00Speaker 12: think clicked for you recently that allowed you to be
- 22:04Speaker 12: in position to get here and then have success?
- 22:06Speaker 13: I think understanding the power of simplicity.
- 22:10Speaker 10: Because the key of the game is to be consistent
- 22:13Speaker 10: and realizing there's no consistency without simplicity was really powerful.
- 22:18Speaker 10: And what I mean by that is just simplifying my routines,
- 22:23Speaker 10: simplifying my approach to the game and just having.
- 22:26Speaker 13: A ton of fun.
- 22:27Speaker 12: And good health has helped. How did you get to
- 22:30Speaker 12: a good place physically, too, to allow you to show
- 22:33Speaker 12: what you could do?
- 22:34Speaker 10: I think going back to what I was just saying,
- 22:36Speaker 10: simplifying my routine, my stretch, simplifying my workouts, simplifying my
- 22:41Speaker 10: recovery post-workouts, it made it all flow really well and
- 22:45Speaker 10: allowed me to keep the main thing, the main thing,
- 22:48Speaker 10: which is.
- 22:49Speaker 13: Having fun on the mountain.
- 22:51Speaker 12: You've been on the radar for a while just because
- 22:53Speaker 12: of the potential, certainly, of What kept you going when
- 22:57Speaker 12: maybe times were tough and you weren't having the success
- 23:00Speaker 12: that you wanted?
- 23:01Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, again, it's a lifelong dream I've had,
- 23:04Speaker 10: and I fight really hard to achieve dreams and to
- 23:10Speaker 10: achieve goals that I put for myself, and it's been
- 23:13Speaker 10: a lifelong dream since I was a kid, and my
- 23:15Speaker 10: parents pushed me really hard.
- 23:16Speaker 13: I mean, we're very.
- 23:19Speaker 10: Poor, and we come from Cuba, and we don't have
- 23:21Speaker 10: much here, so that's always been a huge motivation to...
- 23:25Speaker 10: do better and be better for my family and be
- 23:29Speaker 10: able to, I don't know, help the ones that are here,
- 23:32Speaker 10: help the ones that are in Cuba, have some family
- 23:34Speaker 10: in Spain. Like I want to help my family out
- 23:37Speaker 10: and this is the best way that I, that I
- 23:39Speaker 10: can do it.
- 23:39Speaker 12: You mentioned being from Cuba and your first 11 years
- 23:42Speaker 12: were there. From a baseball standpoint, how much did you
- 23:46Speaker 12: do and could you do while you were there?
- 23:49Speaker 13: I think baseball in Cuba is very organic.
- 23:52Speaker 10: Like you grow up playing on streets with kids and,
- 23:55Speaker 10: As soon as you're old enough to fit a uniform,
- 23:58Speaker 10: you're playing in your town. I've been playing for as
- 24:03Speaker 10: long as I remember. I was in the 9-10 trial
- 24:05Speaker 10: ball team over there in Cuba. I'm from the city
- 24:11Speaker 10: where the Gurriel's are from, and I've been a humongous
- 24:15Speaker 10: baseball fan since I was a kid. My screensaver is
- 24:19Speaker 10: a picture when I was like 8 or 9 with
- 24:21Speaker 10: the oldest Gurriel brother. The only one that I didn't
- 24:23Speaker 10: make it to the big leagues. So I've wanted to
- 24:26Speaker 10: be a big leaguer my entire life.
- 24:29Speaker 12: So you come here, and you don't know much English.
- 24:33Speaker 12: How much English did you know, and how did you
- 24:35Speaker 12: get up to speed and feel comfortable at an age
- 24:38Speaker 12: where that might not have been too easy?
- 24:40Speaker 10: I knew how to count to a thousand. I knew
- 24:42Speaker 10: all the animal names, and that's about it, and colors.
- 24:45Speaker 10: And I think my parents were just... I had really
- 24:48Speaker 10: tough parents growing up, and they forced me to put
- 24:51Speaker 10: the TV in Spanish. And I played in an awesome
- 24:54Speaker 10: travel ball team with awesome teammates growing up that bullied
- 24:57Speaker 10: me a little bit when I mispronounced things.
- 24:59Speaker 13: And they also helped me learn how to pronounce them right.
- 25:01Speaker 13: And it was great. And I never liked falling behind.
- 25:06Speaker 10: And when I got here and I was the only
- 25:08Speaker 10: kid that didn't know English, like that didn't feel very good.
- 25:11Speaker 10: And I made sure and my parents made sure I
- 25:13Speaker 10: studied a lot. Your wife, some cousins were here, I know,
- 25:17Speaker 10: and some friends. But mom was here over the weekend.
- 25:20Speaker 10: And what did that mean to you? especially after the
- 25:22Speaker 10: way things went on Sunday.
- 25:24Speaker 13: That meant the world to me.
- 25:25Speaker 10: My mom hasn't been able to see me pitch since
- 25:28Speaker 10: I was 20 in college, so six years. My brother
- 25:31Speaker 10: was four the last time he went to a baseball
- 25:33Speaker 10: game of mine, and he probably doesn't remember that.
- 25:36Speaker 13: So to see them here and enjoy watching me pitch well,
- 25:41Speaker 13: it's awesome.
- 25:42Speaker 12: And you joined a Cleveland bullpen that has had a
- 25:44Speaker 12: great reputation the last couple of seasons. How much do
- 25:48Speaker 12: you feel that when you're at AAA, knowing that you
- 25:50Speaker 12: could be a part of that at some point?
- 25:52Speaker 13: I think you.
- 25:52Speaker 10: Feel the responsibility to help the bullpen as soon as
- 25:56Speaker 10: you sign with this organization just because it's known to
- 25:59Speaker 10: be such a pitcher-driven organization, pitcher-heavy, and the development of
- 26:04Speaker 10: pitchers in this organization is unbelievable. So I've always felt
- 26:07Speaker 10: the pressure to be great in the bullpen, be great
- 26:10Speaker 10: and be a part of good pitching staff.
- 26:13Speaker 12: Great day Sunday because you pitched? But you were saying earlier,
- 26:16Speaker 12: every day is a great day in the big leagues.
- 26:18Speaker 13: What does that mean?
- 26:19Speaker 10: Yeah, man, I find myself pinching myself trying to wake
- 26:23Speaker 10: up from a dream, but it's unbelievable.
- 26:25Speaker 13: The facilities, the staff, the treatment, everything's unbelievable.
- 26:31Speaker 12: Franco, thanks for coming by.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Congratulations.
- 26:33Speaker 13: Thank you.
- 26:33Speaker 12: That's Franco Alamon. Made his major league debut Sunday with
- 26:37Speaker 12: two scoreless innings.
- 26:38Speaker 13: Stay tuned.
- 26:38Speaker 12: More to come after this.

- 27:21Speaker 16: he does have a tendency to bark at every tree.
- 27:22Speaker 11: Yeah, he brings a lot to the table, but also
- 27:24Speaker 11: takes a lot off of it, especially when it's been
- 27:26Speaker 11: left near the edge.

- 29:04Speaker 16: for a stray shower through the day. Temperatures top out
- 29:06Speaker 16: near 60 degrees early on and then fall into the
- 29:09Speaker 16: 50s through the afternoon. In the 3 News Weather Center,
- 29:11Speaker 16: I'm meteorologist Jessica Van Meter.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Now stay tuned.
- 29:14Speaker 12: When we come back, Tom Hamilton visits with Tony Arnerich,
- 29:17Speaker 12: bench coach, filling in once again for Stephen Vogt. That's
- 29:21Speaker 12: next on the Key Bank Manager Show right here on
- 29:23Speaker 12: the Cleveland Clinic Radio Network.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Because there's no safe like Simply Safe. Kelly Warren and Associates.
- 29:34Speaker 13: Hi again, everybody.
- 29:35Speaker 14: It's the Key Bank Manager Show, and once again, filling
- 29:38Speaker 14: in the bench coach, Tony Arnerich. Arnerich, here on the
- 29:41Speaker 14: Manager Show. Although Steven Vogt is here and will manage
- 29:45Speaker 14: the game, I'm assuming. Tony, how do you guys handle that?
- 29:48Speaker 2: Yeah, he's back.
- 29:49Speaker 19: So he's been chomping at the bit to get back to.
- 29:53Speaker 19: He definitely does not like being out and I'm sure
- 29:56Speaker 19: he'll tell you he feels like he's been away for
- 29:58Speaker 19: a week, even though it's been two days, but there's
- 30:00Speaker 19: an energy and a presence he brings in our clubhouse
- 30:03Speaker 19: and our dugout, and it's good to have him back.
- 30:06Speaker 14: Tony, let's go back to last night. How big, even
- 30:10Speaker 14: though it ended up being 7-2, was the two-out, two-run
- 30:13Speaker 14: single by Brian Rocchio, and why was it big in
- 30:16Speaker 14: your mind in the second inning?
- 30:18Speaker 19: Yeah, I mean, we've obviously, people know that two days
- 30:20Speaker 19: before that, we left a lot of guys on base,
- 30:23Speaker 19: and so Whether we like to admit it or not,
- 30:26Speaker 19: people feel that, I don't know if you want to
- 30:29Speaker 19: call it pressure, but they know it's been happening the
- 30:32Speaker 19: last two days where we aren't getting the big hits.
- 30:34Speaker 19: So for him to go up there, he fell behind 0-2,
- 30:37Speaker 19: and then he gets a hit on a low splitter
- 30:40Speaker 19: that was a really tough pitch to hit. But it
- 30:43Speaker 19: was just good for us to get that knock and
- 30:44Speaker 19: then capitalize even more after that. I think it just
- 30:47Speaker 19: was a big, let's get the weight off our back
- 30:49Speaker 19: and now let's go play and not put too much
- 30:52Speaker 19: pressure on ourselves.
- 30:53Speaker 14: It seems like that's the hit you haven't had much
- 30:56Speaker 14: of this year, which is why most of these games
- 30:58Speaker 14: end up going until the ninth inning. Why does a
- 31:01Speaker 14: hit like that early in a game have such a
- 31:04Speaker 14: bearing on a game?
- 31:05Speaker 19: Well, I mean, anybody will tell you, you take the
- 31:07Speaker 19: lead early. It's a really valuable thing. And so I
- 31:10Speaker 19: think it just gave everybody a chance to kind of
- 31:12Speaker 19: step back and be like, okay, we're good.
- 31:14Speaker 2: We're still a good team.
- 31:15Speaker 19: We're still a good hitting team. You're going to go
- 31:17Speaker 19: through stretches in 162 of two games where you don't
- 31:20Speaker 19: get the big hit. And those two games, we just
- 31:23Speaker 19: happened to have 25 guys on base. So it's one
- 31:27Speaker 19: of those things where sometimes it gets blown out of proportion,
- 31:29Speaker 19: but at the same time, you know, our job is
- 31:31Speaker 19: to get in there and get hits and come through and,
- 31:35Speaker 19: but hitting's really hard and it's going to fluctuate up
- 31:37Speaker 19: and down. And so to, to have that early on,
- 31:40Speaker 19: I think was huge. And then to continue to capitalize
- 31:43Speaker 19: and have good at bats and, and not get, you know,
- 31:47Speaker 19: where we're trying to do too much. I think it
- 31:49Speaker 19: showed last night that we were willing to take the
- 31:50Speaker 19: walk and, And then we have guys that got up
- 31:52Speaker 19: and got some hits.
- 31:53Speaker 14: Well, you talk about it. Ten walks, four came around
- 31:56Speaker 14: to score in the third inning alone. And thought it
- 31:59Speaker 14: was big for Stephen Kwan. First three at-bats obviously didn't
- 32:02Speaker 14: go the way he wanted. And then he had back-to-back walks.
- 32:05Speaker 14: May sound like baby steps, but it was in the
- 32:08Speaker 14: right direction.
- 32:09Speaker 19: Yeah, and that's what's hard is, you know, you look
- 32:11Speaker 19: at a box score, people look at how many hits
- 32:13Speaker 19: you had. In reality, if you can get on base
- 32:16Speaker 19: in this league, you're going to be very valuable. And
- 32:18Speaker 19: so for him not to try to do too much
- 32:21Speaker 19: and take his walk is really important. And then you
- 32:23Speaker 19: have a guy like Reese Hoskins that took three. And
- 32:25Speaker 19: I think that's one thing that Reese has shown as
- 32:27Speaker 19: a veteran, how to have a quality at bat and
- 32:31Speaker 19: be okay. And I hate saying be okay, but like
- 32:33Speaker 19: be excited about a walk. Like a walk is a
- 32:36Speaker 19: very productive thing. And so hopefully that can kind of
- 32:38Speaker 19: catapult Kwani to continue to have good quality at bats
- 32:42Speaker 19: and then sprinkling some hits there and get back on track.
- 32:45Speaker 14: You know, we always talk about hitting being contagious and,
- 32:48Speaker 14: can that work as well when guys start taking walks?
- 32:51Speaker 19: Yeah, I think you can also sense a pitcher when
- 32:53Speaker 19: he doesn't have it. And so it's like, okay, let's
- 32:55Speaker 19: shrink our zone even more. And you get into kind
- 32:58Speaker 19: of a 3-1 mentality no matter the count, especially before
- 33:02Speaker 19: two strikes. It's, I'm hunting one pitch in one spot,
- 33:04Speaker 19: and if he doesn't throw it there, I'm not swinging.
- 33:06Speaker 19: And it's not a bad approach when a guy is
- 33:09Speaker 19: having struggles getting in the zone, and then you force
- 33:11Speaker 19: him back into the zone.
- 33:12Speaker 2: And that's when you hope you can make him pay.
- 33:14Speaker 19: And if he doesn't come back in the zone, be
- 33:16Speaker 19: willing to take that walk and pass the baton to
- 33:18Speaker 19: the next guy.
- 33:19Speaker 14: Slade Ciccone had signs of improvement. He was really happy
- 33:22Speaker 14: with his curveball and slider last time out.
- 33:24Speaker 19: Yeah, I mean, he's been working, you know, guys that
- 33:26Speaker 19: know Slade, he's not going to lack any work. He's
- 33:29Speaker 19: not going to have any stone unturned. And he's determined
- 33:33Speaker 19: to be really, really good. And his work, I think,
- 33:36Speaker 19: shows that. And he competes and he continues to get
- 33:40Speaker 19: better and The one thing is when he's in good counts,
- 33:43Speaker 19: he's really good, just like most pitchers in this league.
- 33:45Speaker 19: If you're in good counts, you're going to have success.
- 33:47Speaker 19: And so I think the biggest thing is just continue
- 33:49Speaker 19: to attack with this stuff and then compete like he does.
- 33:52Speaker 19: And if he's in good counts, I think we'll have
- 33:54Speaker 19: a good night.
