- 0:10SPEAKER_00: All right, ladies and gentlemen.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to this week's episode of Fancy Fumble.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: It's your boy MJG with the Birdman.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Birdman, how you doing today?
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, a few other things that we're just wrapping up before the actual season begins.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely, guys.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: I the season kicks off this Thursday, which actually is today because we're recording this and we're streaming this here uh for you Thursday.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Every Thursday from now on is gonna be our fantasy fumble.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: We want you to be prepared for the weekend, right?
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Especially if that's a matchup you want to look out for.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Um, and that's what we're gonna be talking about.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: We're gonna be talking about who's hot, key matchups, who's not, matchups to avoid.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: And of course, we're gonna do a little draft recap on our personal drafts and just some things that we identified while we were drafting in our 12-man league.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: So hopefully it gives you a little bit of insight here.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: Welcome back, everybody.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Manny, who you got for your hot matchup this week?
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: All right, boys and girls.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: I know you've been waiting for this one here, but my hot matchup of the week is the dreaded Thursday night game.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Yes, I said it.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Please don't cancel me.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: All right, the Thursday night game.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: All right, the Chiefs versus the Lions is two of the most prolific offenses in NFL, and they're coming out the gates to start the season off.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: I know most people are afraid of Thursday night games because typically throughout the season it is a bad matchup because it's a short practice week.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: But everybody, you know, coming out of this, everybody's well rested.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: It's the offseason.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: This is the first game of the season.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Everybody has to get those jitters out.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: And I don't know, historically, uh, these games tend to have a little bit higher scoring on opening day.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: They tend to be pretty high scoring, especially when it's the Chiefs.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you uh remember a few years back when they won the bowl before this year, they let off the season as well, starting off a Thursday night game, and Mahomes just took off where he left off.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: So I think that overall it's gonna be a great matchup, a lot of studs playing in that game.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: You know, if you have Kelsey, he's he's injured.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: I'm worried about him, but you know, Mahomes is gonna go off.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: We're gonna figure out who the main guys will be in that passing offense for the Chiefs, who the main running backs are gonna be.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: So that's kind of a toss-up.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: But we already know who the main guys are gonna be on the Lions.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: You know, it's gonna be Jameer Gibbs, David Montgomery, Amon Ross and Brown, and then and but I honestly think that it will be a high scoring affair.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, Vegas does have the game here.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Um, not that I uh bet or anything like that, but Vegas does have the game here at like the highest points prior to the week of 52 points.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: So I mean it's gonna be a really high scoring game, and then obviously it's gonna, you know, at the end of the day, you're just trying to go where all the points are at.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: So it's gonna be one of the best matchups.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: What do you have to say about it?
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: I completely agree with all of that.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: I'm really excited for it.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: There's there's no wet or there's no better way to start the season than the highest scoring game of the week.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: Like, we're all excited to get back, and uh this is a monster matchup.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: We've got so many weapons on both sides that I'm really, really excited for it.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: And um all the things you were saying, those studs on the Lions, and who we're trying to find out is is actually gonna start making an impact for the Chiefs.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: I I'm looking forward to seeing that.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: And you know, historically with the Chiefs, you don't really have a top receiver, it's always Kelsey and Mahomes, you know, and uh it'll be interesting to see if he's out, what they do, or even if he's playing, who else gets involved?
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: Because you know, they do have some question marks at receiver and running back, but you know they're gonna produce because they've got Patrick Mahomes.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: So um I'm really excited to see the Lions.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: You know, I have a lot of Lions on my fantasy teams.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: I don't have any Chiefs players on my fantasy teams, but I'm loaded with Lions.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: So I'm really looking forward to start the season with this game.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: I do have something else to input.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Uh historically, Chiefs did have an amazing receiver, Tyreek Hill.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you remember this guy, the Cheetah.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm talking about Clay.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: He's one of the best outside of the outside of Tyreek, they're kind of just throwing it everywhere.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: So yeah, because I was gonna say historically, Kelsey and Tyreek Hill were like two of the top scoring fantasy players in the in in like the league.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: So yeah, but yeah, now they're just uh a crab shoot.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Take your choice, freaking spin the slots and see what comes out.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: I definitely agree on that.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: And that could be frustrating during those bye weeks when you're you're really desperate for a receiver and you're like, yeah, well, you know, he's he's got my homes thrown to him, uh, but it doesn't always work out, as we've all been through before.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Um, so regarding the uh the actual players on the Lions, I just want to go over a few things, which you are aware of this already, but I've got Amon Rod St.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: Brown in two leagues, David Montgomery in two leagues.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: I would have him in three, but you got him that uh that one league ahead of me.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: But I got Jameer Gibbs ahead of you in both leagues.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: So I got Jameer Gibbs in three leagues, amonron two, and David Montgomery in two.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: And I'm actually pretty high on Jared Goff as just you know a fill-in quarterback, you know, a few weeks here and there.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: For a matchup like this, I'd have no problem playing Jared Goff.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: And um there is a sleeper on the Lions that I'm gonna discuss later.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: All right, Joe, who do you have for your hot matchup of the week here?
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm going with the Steelers and the 49ers.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: And on paper, these are the two top defenses in the league.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: But on paper at the beginning of the season, it never really seems to work out that way.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: I hope it does because I'm a Steelers fan.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: Um, and you know, Steelers and Niners are always a respectable D.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: And uh you know, there's a there's a few other teams that are always gonna be hovering towards the top, but right now on paper, those are the top two.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: So, you know, it'll be an interesting game because of that.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: But the thing is, their rush defense on both sides is really good, but the secondary on both sides is questionable.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: You know, we're gonna see a lot of weapons on both sides, so that's secondary will be tested.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: The 49ers secondary and the steelers secondary will be tested.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: The Steelers secondary has been weak for uh quite a few years.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: The 49ers, uh you know, I don't know, they're kind of a mid-range secondary, but um preseason they look they look pretty bad.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, Nick Bosa just signed a huge deal to become the highest paid defensive player ever.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: And TJ Watt is back for the Steelers.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: So, you know, again, I'm excited to see both defenses play.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: But when you think about all the weapons that we have on both sides, that's gonna be a fun game to watch.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: We've got um CMC, obviously, Debo, which you know, Debo's not gonna be the same player he was because he's you know he had three rushing touchdowns last year.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: It's probably not gonna happen this year with CMC in the in the mix for the entire season.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Um got Brandon Ayuk that had a pretty respectable season last year.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Um and then you know, Brock Purdy, I I think you know, the last let me see.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: I think it was like the last six games of the season.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Whenever he he started in week 13, I believe.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: And from week 13 to 18, he's he had um two scores in every game.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: And then the last game he had three.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: So he had you know two touchdowns, two touchdowns, two touchdowns, two touchdowns, and then three touchdowns.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: And uh he's looking like pretty solid, and you know, he's gonna be the starter, and it's cool to see Kenny Pickett as a starter for the Steelers because that was a rough year last year, but he was a rookie, got to give him some slack.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: And now if he's getting more comfortable with his receivers, Deontay Johnson, George Pickens, those guys are are gonna be, you know, right there for him.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: And then also he can dish it off to Najee if he needs to.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: So um we got a lot of good weapons on both sides of the field.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: And you know, Jalen Moran's another one that will be getting a little bit more action.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: And you know, he he did well last year, he might get a little bit more this year.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: Uh, but either way, I think you've got some good running backs on both sides, good receivers on both sides, and it'll be a really fun game to watch, even if the deep defense is playing awesome on both sides, too.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: Roger, that.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and um some things add as well.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: Uh Purdy definitely was on a hot streak.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: But I know you said his last game he had three touchdowns.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: I remember the Eagles holding him to zero touchdowns on his last game of the season.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: So uh season.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: No, I'm just kidding.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: That that didn't matter for fantasy, yeah.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: That was just regular playoffs.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: That's just uh a little shout out to you 49ers fans that want us Eagles back.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: You know, I just gotta stir the pot a little bit.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: You guys ain't ready for that.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: You're coming back to Philly, you're gonna be crying again, trust me.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: But um that is one of my favorite matchups, too.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: I love that that 49ers Steelers, a lot of a lot of it's gonna be a lot of big explosive pit plays because you're right.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Pass rush is great, but the secondary is trash, so that means not trash, but like mid-range.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: But that means that there's gonna be a lot of we'll see.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: It might be trash.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: Well, there's gonna be a lot of big plays.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think I I think it's gonna be a good game for sure.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: I have CMC in two out of three leagues, you know.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: I couldn't get him in the third one because I had a 12 pick.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: Obviously, he didn't fall that far, but you know, I I definitely think that you know he's gonna be effective.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: George Kiddle's gonna be effective, Purdy's back.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: I think he's gonna manage the game.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: But on the other side, obviously, then you know there's gonna be some Steelers, I guess, some good touches for sure.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: So I agree on that.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and Brock Purdy in those last uh weeks, those last six weeks was averaging over 20 points a game.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: So, you know, if you need if you need to plug him in, he's available in a lot of leagues.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: If you need to plug him in, that's that's a great play.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: Risky maybe for a Thursday night game, first game of the season.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: But if I didn't have a quarterback I was real confident in, he finished strong last year.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: I'd plug him in.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: And uh one thing I want to mention, I know I know you have McCaffrey in two leagues, and I actually thought about sending you a trade today, and I I was very concerned.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: Uh so I ultimately pulled back, but I actually pulled online and I asked in this uh fantasy chat I'm in, which would you rather have?
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: Which side of this trade would you rather have?
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: And this is what I was gonna send to you.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: It was Justin Jefferson and Jameer Gibbs for Amon Ross St.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: Brown and CMC.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: And the poll came back seven and seven, completely split down the middle because you know that's a combo.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously, both sides of that trade are going to win.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: Uh, they're great to have on either team.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: I just want CMC on one team so bad, and I don't have them on any.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: So I thought about making it a lot of people.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: But I I think in those uh in that league, you're trying, you're you're looking at CMC as well.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: I I had I'm not really too too loaded with running backs.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: Maybe I am.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't recall, but I think that's the one where I have uh only a few.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: But yeah, no, I hear you.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: You want to have CMC is gonna be a workhorse this year.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: Everybody, like I'm going up against him first week in my one my uh champions league.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: So both sides.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: So it's good, it's gonna be good.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's just a fun player to have on your team.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: Yes, he is.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: All right, welcome back.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: Now we're gonna talk about who's not hot this week.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: What are some matchups that you want to avoid this week, Joe?
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: Well, this matchup that I want to avoid is is kind of strange because I have so many players uh from the Saints, but the Titans versus the Saints.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: That's my stayway game.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: Uh the Saints have a strong defense.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: This seems like one of one of these games that's gonna be a grind back and forth, low-scoring grind.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Um, you know the Titans are gonna be gorging Derrick Henry with carries, as always.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: And uh you know, I'm excited to see DeAndre Hopkins too.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: But you know, there's been a lot of movement on both teams.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: You got you know, Tannehill's now throwing to DeAndre, and this is their first time on a team together.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: They're both vets, yes, but it might take them a few games to get warmed up and and start meshing.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, on on the Saints side, you got Derek Carr, new team, and Jamal Williams filling in for Kamara because Kamara is suspended.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: So there's just a lot of moving pieces.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: And for the first game of the season, even though most of these guys are vets, I would just stay away from it because I feel like it's going to be a low-scoring game, it's gonna be a grind, and you've got both teams with new players on on each side.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: And for me, I'd rather just see them produce before I start putting them in.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: With that said, I am playing Jamal Williams in a few leagues at flex.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: I think he's a good sneaky flex play.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: Juwan Johnson could be a good play if you need a tight end.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: They say they're gonna get him more involved in the passing game.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: Um, but you know, the automatic starts are Derrick Henry and DeAndre Hopkins.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: If you drafted Hopkins, you're gonna play him.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: But overall, I think it's gonna be a low scoring grind.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: Gotcha.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: Um I do see that game there.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: I actually see it a little bit differently.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: I kind of see it as like more of a it's gonna be like no defensive type of game.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: You know, I feel like those guys are gonna really just, you know, it's gonna be ugly and it's gonna be sloppy because it's the first game of the season, but you're gonna still see minimal defense, right?
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: So there's gonna be some blunders, some errors, but you're also gonna see some big plays, I think.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: And Derek Carr, you know, I think is gonna light the the you know the team on fire because he loves shoving the ball to one receiver.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: Olave is gonna be that guy who knows what Michael Thomas is gonna do.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: I'm not uh high on Michael Thomas, but I am really big on the Saints backfield.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: So obviously Jamal Williams, definitely a great play.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: Blow up game.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: That guy's gonna, you know, he's taking all the carries, he's gonna give you that 20, 20.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: He's gonna give you that Jamal Williams from last year, right?
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: This game.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: So that's gonna be a nice workload.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: He might have two goal line carries and hit them both.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: And I think they're gonna do that because Derrick Henry, of course, you we all know he's gonna be getting those, you know, he's probably gonna have a 200-yard rushing game with like two touchdowns.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: So they're just gonna feed each other's, grind each other out, just smash each other in the mouth, and uh kind of figure themselves out on offense where they're gonna be.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I wouldn't say it's the the worst game, I'd say more of a mere tier game, but I do definitely see some good plays there for sure.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, you know, obviously Olave is gonna be catching a lot of balls from Derek Carr.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: Um, and I hope you're right, just because like I said, I'm playing Jamal Williams in three leagues.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: So I really hope you're right about that.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: And I got Derrick Henry and I got uh DeAndre in a league too.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: So I I would love for that to be um a little high scoring, but I just feel like with like I said, with the moving pieces and uh some some questionable teams like as a whole, you know, I want to see both of those teams start playing before I trust them.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: But uh yeah, we'll see.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: First game of the of the year can be sloppy for any team.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: So doesn't mean it'll be low scoring, but it might be sloppy, like you said.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Welcome back, armchair addicts.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: Manny, who's your cold call of the week?
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: All right, I thought you'd never ask.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: So my cold call of the week is uh the Panthers versus the Falcons game, man.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: It's the garbage bowl, the toilet bowl, who's the the crappier team?
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: And I think you know, at the end of the day, it's it's a toss-up, right?
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I know there's some studs uh or a stud on each team playing.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: You know, I wouldn't say there's a lot of, you know, I hadn't I absolutely invested nothing into these two teams in all my leagues because I just, you know, Bijan is going a little bit too high for me, ADP, but I think he's the only one worth you know playing that matchup, right?
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: He's gonna is gonna be his welcome to the NFL game.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: He's going against, you know, and the Panthers aren't a soft defense.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: They just got injured last year.
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: So it's gonna be a little bit of a testament, right?
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: He's gonna get pounded a little bit, he might have some big plays.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: Overall, I think it'll be a solid 20-point outing for him.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: On the other side, uh, for Panthers, the only person I think will have anything, you know, you know, more than 10, 15 points would be Adam Thielen if he plays.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: You know, I just think it's just gonna be a very low scoring affair.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: Um, obviously, I don't even know what the the spread is for Vegas, but uh it's definitely one of the lowest scoring projected games of the week.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: And I mean, in one of the worst divisions in the league.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: Like, I have a good friend that's a Bucs fan, and he's telling me he he's super biased.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: He's telling me all about the Bucs.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: I'm like, bro, let me just tell you, Saints are the best team in that division, and it ain't pretty.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: So I do not want any.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: If you're drafting and you get Bichon and you're like my other buddy that grabbed Bijan over Saquon Barkley or Nick Chubb, you need to slap yourself because that's stupid.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Don't bet on a rookie like that.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I passed up Bijan for that very reason.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, I I think he's gonna be stud, don't get me wrong, but when you've got options like Nick Chubb and Saquon Barkley, I have Saquon in two leagues, and uh, you know, passed up Bijan for him without hesitation.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, even Josh Jacobs.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, I would take Josh Jacobs and Jameer Gibbs before I would take Bijan because I just I feel like you know he he has he has a good floor, but his ceiling is just so limited.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: I just don't think that they're gonna take their rookie and run him to the ground when they had Tyler Adgier, who was one of the most efficient running backs in the league last year when he took over.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, that guy wasn't no slouch.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: I mean, he was a fourth round pick, and he came in, he was averaging like 4.5 yards a carry.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: So he was he was killing it.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: He just, you know, somebody better got put on the team.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 18:21unknown: Yeah.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: All right, ladies and gentlemen, welcome back.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: Now we're gonna talk about some of our uh draft observations and breakdowns, right?
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: We talk a little bit about what um we saw, what we experienced, and you know, talk a little bit about our teams here in our favorite picks.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: So, Joe, you want to lead us off over here and give us a little bit of you know, a couple minutes of you know what you saw in in your drafts.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: And keep in mind, people, this is a 12-man PPR league we play in.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: That's all I do.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: We we're redraft PPR guys.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: We you know, anybody can do an eight to ten man league, those are stacked rosters, but when you get 12-man or more, you're really starting to get into those that deep, you know, sleeper territory.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: So lead us off, Joe, and let us know what what you think about that.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Well, as I told you in uh first episode, I do lean heavily on running back, and I I did follow suit as much as I could with the majority of my drafts.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: I had one league where I actually went running back, running back, running back for my first three picks, and that's the team I'm I'm happiest with.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: And part of that is also because I'm putting a lot of stock in those mid-round wide receivers that could have a huge ceiling.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: You know, the Jahan Dotsons, um, people that maybe you know had like an average year last year and uh have the potential for a breakout this year.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: And you know, DeAndre Hopkins was another one that was kind of floating around in round four, and you could just scoop them up.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: But uh for the most part, I went heavy running back because I feel like after those handful of studs are gone, you're gonna be scraping the bottom of the barrel to find two running backs to start with confidence.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: So I did notice that work out for me doing the hero running back approach, just drafting two in a row.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: With that said, I did also have a few times where, you know, in your league, I went Justin Jefferson because I had first pick.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: I couldn't I I did think about going with McCaffrey, but I couldn't pass up Justin Jefferson.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: So there's obviously exceptions to every rule, but for the most part, I leaned heavily on running back and it paid off.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: In my opinion, it paid off big time in most of my drafts.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: What about you?
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: What did you notice most in uh in your drafts or or what kind of trends were you following?
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so obviously it, you know, I noticed, you know, I had I had a different strategy for pretty much everything that happened.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: So if I picked late, I know I had to go, you know, balance on my approach.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: I had to go running back, wide receiver first four rounds, two and two of each, because I felt like I was getting the best value that way.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: Um, if I was picking early, I could go, you know, stud running back if I'm gonna, or depending on what pick I am, it's either stud running back or wide receiver, depending on you know where I'm picking in the top five.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: So I happen to get lucky and get you know, just excuse me, get Christian McCaffrey in two leagues, you know, and when you pass on them, that allowed me to get them because even though I was a fifth pick, you know, everybody else grabbed whatever else came out after him.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: So that worked out great to my approach.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: And those are my favorite teams because I ended up going, you know, running back wide receiver, first two picks, and then I ended up getting um tier one QB on the third round.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: So I either got Josh Allen or I got Jalen Hurts, you know, and then obviously um the league that I got Jalen Hurts, I also have managed to snag AJ Brown with my.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Second round pick.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: So I got a nice little AJ Brown, Jalen Hurts stack.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: You know, otherwise, um, most of the leagues I saw Mark Andrews was falling to the fourth round.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: And I I think he was typically mocked, and everyone had him going in the third, you know, third round early offseason.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: He was a second rounder, but third round was kind of where he settled off in.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: And I um I got him fourth because it was obviously a luxury pick, and I was like, man, I can't pass this up.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: But um, you know, I did realize that you know I could have possibly gone stronger on the running backs.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: You're right.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: The the drop-off for running backs this year, I mean, I think there was less you know, workhorse running backs as that there's ever been.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: You know, most of the guys that you see after you know the fifth round are pretty much committee backs, and there's some good ones, but you know, I I ended up taking the approach of man, there's no no running backs.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: So instead of trying to force a running back pick, I went with the best available picks.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: I was going, you know, I got a QB in the fifth and one league, or I got like a couple stud receivers, you know, third and fourth, right?
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: I got some really guys, some guys I really liked, and then I went and did uh running back stacks.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: So I did like Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson in one league and the um you know the seventh and eighth.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: And then another league that I was short running backs, I did Kamara and Jamal Williams, you know.
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: I did those, I did them in the third and the seventh or eighth.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: So, you know, there are uh some stacks there that you could get late if you happen to screw something up or not, it just doesn't fall your way sometimes, you know, and that's just kind of how it is.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: So obviously if you get early pick, your team's gonna look better uh initially on paper, but uh getting leg picks isn't bad either because if you're going more balanced, you know, your team's gonna be instead of being top heavy, you got a little bit more fluidity with your team when it comes to waiver wire ads and all that.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's funny you mentioned that because I had first pick in two leagues, and then the other leagues, I was at the back end of the draft.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: I like eighth, ninth, tenth in two leagues.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: So um my approach did change a little bit um when I had first pick.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: So the two leagues where I had first pick, I went Justin Jefferson with both, and then on the way back, I got a running back and then uh Jalen Hurts for both of those leagues.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: So, you know, Jalen Hurts and Justin Jefferson and a solid running back.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: You know, it's a different approach, but it was because I had first pick.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: When I was towards the end, that's when I was going running back, running back, even though it wasn't keeping it balanced.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: I felt like I was gonna get those guys, you know, the mid-range Jahan Dotsons, the George Pickens, that that were still hanging around that I felt very confident in, that would have a big ceiling or at least enough volume where you'd feel confident starting them every week, and you'd still have two studs at running back.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: So my my strategy changed drastically depending on my location.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: All right, ladies and gentlemen, welcome back.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: Now it is time for your favorite segment, the big balls call of the week.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: All right, Joe, who has the biggest balls of this week?
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: Tell me.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: Well, my big balls call of the week is Sam Laporta scores a touchdown in his rookie debut.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: Now we talked about earlier it's gonna be a high-scoring game.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: And Jared Goff, as as great as the Lions are the Lions are offensively, Jared Goff does have limited receiving options.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: So outside of Amon Ross St.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: Brown, where's he go?
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: I've heard he has a great rapport with Laporta already.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: So I think he's gonna pass a touchdown to him.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: Well, again, it's my big balls call of the week.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: So I'm not very confident, but I'm saying it's definitely possible that Sam Laporta scores a touchdown in his rookie debut in the NFL.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: What about you?
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: Tell me about your big balls call of the week.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: Well, my big old cojones for this week are gonna be your boy from your team, the Steelers, Mr.
- 26:05SPEAKER_00: George Pickens.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: Vegas has this guy for the the yard spread is four forty-two yards.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: They have him at 3.5 receptions for this game.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: They honestly think that Sam Fran has a good secondary, and I think that that's the only way that either of these teams are gonna move the ball is through the air or through those wide receiver screens or running back toss-offs, just because they're both their defensive lines are so good.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: So my big ball's call is that George Pickens is gonna double all his projections.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: He's gonna have you know 100 receiving yards, he's gonna have a touchdown, right?
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: Maybe two, and then he's definitely gonna have, you know, you know, he's gonna be a workhorse, get seven, eight receptions.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: Like you're gonna see the the George Pickens you saw in training camp this this week.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: So, and and that's that's going against a team that apparently is expected to be uh, you know, he's apparently expected to be shut down.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: So that's why I think that he's gonna exceed that.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: And plus his fantasy projection is 10.9 points per game or 10.9 points for this game in a PPR league with bonus scoring.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: So that tells you that he's like projecting you know anywhere from eight to eleven points, which isn't much at all.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: No, I I think that's uh very attainable, and I really hope you're right.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: And he just smashes them in the mouth and gets a hundred yards in a score.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: That would be amazing.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: It would make me happy, regardless of fantasy football.
- 27:26SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: It's always good when you have players on your team that you know you're actually a fan of, you know, or that you steal from a co-host, you know, that's always gonna make a good for good good watching here.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: You know, folks, speaking of draft, let me tell you something about Birdman over here.
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: This man, you guys seen his player profile for Christian Kirk.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: And he had an opportunity to grab his boy Christian Kirk in the fifth round, and guess who he grabbed?
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: My player profile, George Pickens, and he left Kirk on the sidelines, boys and girls.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: So you need to watch out for this guy, all right?
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: He's a shark.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: I did pick up uh I did pick up Kirk in one or two leagues, and um I picked up Mike Evans in one league over Pickens, but you got the wheels turning, and I saw Pickens there, and I snatched him before you could.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: You know, that's our one of our most I think that's one of our more most popular videos too.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: That one and the Jahan Dotson one is it seems like a lot of people are on that hype train, man.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: They're they're they're researching these guys and really getting on there.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: And I don't know if you noticed uh that guy, whatever his name is, a guy you don't like from ESPN, all of a sudden it has like this cameo on how on how uh David Montgomery is like this go-to guy now.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: I'm like, bro, did he see my player profile?
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: Because he's talking about the same points I made.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: You've been saying it for two months, too.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: So and here we are, just another fancy football show.
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: It's uh we got the biggest balls.
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: So tune in next week, folks.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: Thank you for joining us here today.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: It's your boy MJG and Birdman.
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: I hope you all have a great rest of your evening.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: Peace.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: Go, birds.
