- 0:06Speaker 1: One of the best parts of life is that things
- 0:09Speaker 1: don't always work out the way you plan. The result
- 0:12Speaker 1: can be an adventure that takes you to places you
- 0:14Speaker 1: never thought you'd ever see, or experiences that help create
- 0:17Speaker 1: memories that you can look back on for years to come.
- 0:21Speaker 1: With good, though, there must also come the bad. Today's
- 0:25Speaker 1: story has many moments that turn out much different than
- 0:27Speaker 1: you'd expect. As our subject today, Michelle Hadley, would find
- 0:32Speaker 1: out she would find herself in the middle of a nightmare,
- 0:36Speaker 1: nightmare that keeps getting worse and worse, and even when
- 0:40Speaker 1: she tries to escape and get away from it all,
- 0:43Speaker 1: it just keeps getting worse.
- 0:47Speaker 2: My name's Ben and I'm Nicole and you're listening to
- 0:51Speaker 2: Wicked and Grim.
- 0:52Speaker 1: A true crime podcasting. The following podcast material more mature
- 1:03Speaker 1: audience listener discretion. I'm pretty sure Ripley is going to
- 1:26Speaker 1: wake up with like the most of sore necks ever
- 1:29Speaker 1: right now. Look at her.
- 1:30Speaker 2: No, she sleeps in weird positions all the time.
- 1:32Speaker 1: She does, but she's not a young, spry, little pup anymore.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Okay, what the heck? I actually took them to the
- 1:37Speaker 2: dog park today and some lady was looking at rip
- 1:41Speaker 2: and her dog was quite young, I guess, and she
- 1:43Speaker 2: was looking at Rip and she was like, oh, you
- 1:45Speaker 2: got some gray hairs. You're not a young pup. And
- 1:48Speaker 2: I was like herself, it was like, she's four. Wow,
- 1:53Speaker 2: Like what do you mean.
- 1:55Speaker 1: She's a husky. She's half like white hair, I know,
- 1:58Speaker 1: half gray, half black.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I was a little bit insulted, actually, So it's like,
- 2:03Speaker 2: what she is not old? No, that is not old.
- 2:06Speaker 2: And here she is running around like a crazy person.
- 2:08Speaker 2: So I'm like, what the heck she.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Didn't know what she's talking about. Yeah, Honey. On the
- 2:13Speaker 1: other hand, I think she's curled up like a little
- 2:15Speaker 1: freaking sweet angel over there. She's fitting into the tiny
- 2:18Speaker 1: home like perfectly. She's officially completely comfortable. She has made
- 2:23Speaker 1: her home. It's fantastic.
- 2:25Speaker 2: She stresses me out, though, but.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Okay, she just had one escape venture the other day.
- 2:30Speaker 2: She only escapes when I'm home. It seems like I
- 2:33Speaker 2: literally take my eye off them for five minutes and
- 2:35Speaker 2: then I go out there and Honey's not in the
- 2:37Speaker 2: freaking yard.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Shit, it's the curse.
- 2:39Speaker 2: It makes my heart just stop.
- 2:41Speaker 1: It's a curse. You are cursed. The dogs will only
- 2:43Speaker 1: escape when you're home, not when I am.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Okay, well, soon enough, you will be home all the time.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true because I only have like a week
- 2:51Speaker 1: and a half left until I am completely done my
- 2:55Speaker 1: nine to five job, jumping in full to like videography
- 2:59Speaker 1: work slash podcasting.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah, it's awesome.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm super pumped. There's gonna be a lot more
- 3:05Speaker 1: content getting pushed out on Patreon, for example, in our
- 3:08Speaker 1: social media, so you can expect to see that coming
- 3:10Speaker 1: in the in the coming weeks. Yeah.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Speaking of Patreon, we got some people saying don't we
- 3:15Speaker 2: we do.
- 3:16Speaker 1: And thank you for sending me a list. I have
- 3:19Speaker 1: four individuals here starting with Ozzy Carlson, Tamara Newcombe, Amanda Ashcraft,
- 3:26Speaker 1: and Amanda Carlson.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Nice.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Thank you so much to all you guys for joining
- 3:31Speaker 1: us over on Patreons.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Amanda's henh yeah, and.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Two with the last name Carlson as well.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Oh seriously, okay, I miss that part. Yeah wow.
- 3:38Speaker 1: So they're going to be getting some awesome content. Like
- 3:40Speaker 1: we did a little pre show for this episode. We
- 3:42Speaker 1: do a pre show like every other episode, it seems like,
- 3:45Speaker 1: and just throw it out there with some cool conversations
- 3:48Speaker 1: and at the end of the month even think it what.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Exclusive episode three months?
- 3:54Speaker 1: Yeah, the only way you can hear the episode is
- 3:57Speaker 1: on Patreon, And we're actually building a bit of a
- 3:58Speaker 1: library over there now.
- 3:59Speaker 2: So yeah, so when you sign up too, like you
- 4:02Speaker 2: can literally go and listen to all of them.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Yeah, so sign up, you got the whole back library
- 4:06Speaker 1: of episodes. You can go through it. I'll listen to
- 4:08Speaker 1: all those awesome ones cause I mean, like we have like,
- 4:11Speaker 1: what one hundred and thirty episodes now on our like
- 4:13Speaker 1: regular podcast library. We've probably got another like I don't know,
- 4:17Speaker 1: thirty episodes twenty thirty.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we should buy a list to actually put
- 4:21Speaker 2: it out there.
- 4:22Speaker 1: We are, we got in the coming out in the
- 4:24Speaker 1: coming weeks is actually going to be an addition onto
- 4:25Speaker 1: our website that only patrons can access. So it's a
- 4:28Speaker 1: nice easy access library that I can see at all,
- 4:31Speaker 1: like boom right there.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yeah, but we can share that on Instagram to which
- 4:34Speaker 2: cases we've done. Oh yeah, so people can see if
- 4:36Speaker 2: they're interested.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, that's not a bad idea, actually, good good call.
- 4:41Speaker 1: What else we got to talk about? Oh, okay, as
- 4:44Speaker 1: cliche as it is, there is something we want to
- 4:46Speaker 1: touch on the.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Weather, Oh my gosh, are we touching on the weather?
- 4:50Speaker 1: We are because I'm sorry, I'm stupid excited with the weather.
- 4:53Speaker 1: We already mentioned it as we were talking to patrons earlier.
- 4:56Speaker 1: But snow's melting Cavin fever.
- 4:59Speaker 2: I think touch on this. How about we touch on
- 5:01Speaker 2: this every week until we have no snow because people
- 5:04Speaker 2: are probably just shocked. But we literally still have Okay,
- 5:07Speaker 2: I think not two feet anymore. I know, probably like
- 5:10Speaker 2: at least a foot and a half though in some areas.
- 5:14Speaker 1: In some areas, I think a foot is our average.
- 5:18Speaker 1: But if you go, like Dent to the downtown area,
- 5:20Speaker 1: where there's a little more like you know, pollution and warmth,
- 5:22Speaker 1: different buildings and cars, there's not a whole lot left,
- 5:25Speaker 1: if any. But we're on the outskirts of town where
- 5:29Speaker 1: there's snows.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Hire elevation up here. That's right. The dog park actually
- 5:33Speaker 2: Heart had very little.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Which is good. But that's downtown too. It's downtown, so
- 5:37Speaker 1: we probably have a good average of a foot of
- 5:39Speaker 1: snow still in our lawns and everything. It's not cool.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I think it will be here for at least two
- 5:44Speaker 2: more weeks probably.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Yeah, Well put it this way. I got a Facebook
- 5:48Speaker 1: memory popped up. What was it last week? I was
- 5:52Speaker 1: fishing on open water seven years ago on lake Yeah,
- 5:57Speaker 1: and that same day my dad was ice fishing on
- 6:02Speaker 1: the same fucking lake this year.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Right, yeah, so seven years I was like, what do
- 6:08Speaker 2: you mean. At the same time, I was like, that's
- 6:10Speaker 2: so dangerous.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Seven years ago, seven years ago, there's no ice in
- 6:14Speaker 1: the lake. This year ice fishing, ice fishing. When he
- 6:17Speaker 1: was drilling through, he said there was like a foot
- 6:19Speaker 1: and a half two feet of ice on it. Still.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah, we've had a particularly harsh winter.
- 6:24Speaker 1: You said shitty winter.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Wrong.
- 6:26Speaker 1: We've had a particularly shitty.
- 6:27Speaker 2: And I think it hit us mostly in in February
- 6:30Speaker 2: or so, so that's why we're having all this extra
- 6:33Speaker 2: yeah right now too, I think.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Yeah. And we've been getting a lot of shitty spring
- 6:37Speaker 1: weather too. It's been freezing overnight, so yeah, cabin fever
- 6:40Speaker 1: is soon going to go out the window. We're able
- 6:41Speaker 1: to go outside and explore and melty snow and sun
- 6:44Speaker 1: and stuff.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Melty snow and sun and stuff. It was snowing today, yeah,
- 6:49Speaker 2: which is bullshit. I don't know if you knew that.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I did know that nothing stuck it with just some
- 6:52Speaker 1: flakes coming down. Yeah, crisis averted. All right, you ready
- 6:57Speaker 1: to get into this.
- 6:58Speaker 2: I'm ready to roll.
- 6:59Speaker 1: This is not the case that I was hoping to
- 7:00Speaker 1: cover this week. The one I was going to cover
- 7:03Speaker 1: this week is a little bit more involved, as I
- 7:06Speaker 1: mentioned last time, so I'm pushing it off again to
- 7:08Speaker 1: have the proper time to research that one. This one, though,
- 7:13Speaker 1: it is just as involved. I was able to actually
- 7:15Speaker 1: get the research done for this one, which is nice.
- 7:18Speaker 1: So here we go.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Here, really, let's go.
- 7:20Speaker 1: So this case is the case of Michelle Susan Hadley.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:28Speaker 1: So Michelle was a twenty nine year old woman who
- 7:31Speaker 1: was born on December twentieth of nineteen eighty six in Upland, California,
- 7:35Speaker 1: to Michael and Susan Hadley. Now. She moved with her
- 7:40Speaker 1: parents and her younger sister to Ontario, California when she
- 7:43Speaker 1: was a younger kid. It was there that she would
- 7:45Speaker 1: grow up and blossom into the person that people knew
- 7:48Speaker 1: and loved. Her and her family were devout Christians, and
- 7:51Speaker 1: Michelle was described as quiet, intelligent, a driven young woman.
- 7:56Speaker 1: She didn't partake in any of the typical alluring lifestyles
- 7:59Speaker 1: of others her age, as she began to grow up
- 8:01Speaker 1: a little bit, some of those lifestyles being things like
- 8:05Speaker 1: you know, partying, risk taking. For me example, like I
- 8:08Speaker 1: go cliff jumping, that sort of stuff, you know, running
- 8:11Speaker 1: on the railroad tracks or who knows what these darn
- 8:14Speaker 1: kids are getting up to these days.
- 8:16Speaker 2: You know, would you still cliff jump at your age?
- 8:18Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 8:18Speaker 2: Okay, just curious sells.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I just might not go as high. You could
- 8:23Speaker 1: still jump off a cliff into like four.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Feet down five feet that's fine as long.
- 8:30Speaker 1: As it's a cliff. You know, that's still cliff jumping.
- 8:35Speaker 1: But yeah. She believed rules were to be followed, not
- 8:37Speaker 1: to be broken. With her morals intact, she had a
- 8:41Speaker 1: clean criminal history. She was just a good kid. Now,
- 8:45Speaker 1: this didn't mean that she stayed out of the spotlight though,
- 8:47Speaker 1: just because she kept her nose clean, was quiet. She
- 8:51Speaker 1: kind of didn't seek out the spotlight per se. She
- 8:54Speaker 1: wasn't a center of attention kind of person. But in
- 8:56Speaker 1: high school she was a track star who was often
- 8:58Speaker 1: pushing the envelope for kids her age and all that
- 9:01Speaker 1: sort of thing. She was actually getting quite the accomplishments
- 9:04Speaker 1: on her shoulder. Nice Because of this, it ended up
- 9:07Speaker 1: earning her a scholarship to a college in Pennsylvania.
- 9:10Speaker 2: That's a big deal. Oh, yes, it must have been good.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Oh yeah, scholarships are like no joke, man, Yeah you
- 9:15Speaker 1: get those. That's a merit on you for sure.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 9:19Speaker 1: So, eventually, in two thousand and nine, she would graduate
- 9:22Speaker 1: with a bachelor's degree, but also with an engagement ring
- 9:26Speaker 1: proudly displayed on her finger. She was actually engaged to
- 9:30Speaker 1: her high school sweetheart.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Oh isn't that just the best?
- 9:33Speaker 1: Oh? Definitely, just like us high school.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Sweetheart in case you didn't know, yeap.
- 9:38Speaker 1: However, unfortunately, though, like many relationships that start young, it
- 9:42Speaker 1: didn't last.
- 9:45Speaker 2: We've heard that a few times. It's not gonna work.
- 9:47Speaker 2: It's not gonna last.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Yeah, we've been lasting so far, so hopefully it keeps
- 9:51Speaker 1: that way. Unfortunately for Michelle, though, it didn't work out
- 9:54Speaker 1: the same wayang. They would separate and go their separate
- 9:58Speaker 1: ways in twenty fourteen, only four years after their wedding.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Oh okay, so they did, so they got married. Four
- 10:04Speaker 2: years later they divorced.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Correct. Okay, so now single and on her own for
- 10:10Speaker 1: the first time as an adult. And by like on
- 10:12Speaker 1: her own, I mean like as a single adult on
- 10:14Speaker 1: her own, you know, not a partner to be dependent on.
- 10:18Speaker 1: So Michelle was not too eager to jump into the
- 10:21Speaker 1: world of dating. She had been with the same partner
- 10:24Speaker 1: for years, and in fact, he was the only one
- 10:26Speaker 1: that she'd ever dated, so the idea of starting at
- 10:29Speaker 1: the beginning wasn't a fantastic thought, and rightfully so, I
- 10:33Speaker 1: can't blame her. Oh yeah, if we were to just
- 10:35Speaker 1: split right now, I wouldn't even know what the fuck.
- 10:37Speaker 2: It would be very daunting.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I'd be at the super market being like,
- 10:41Speaker 1: hi there, wow, I see you have eggs in your basket.
- 10:46Speaker 2: You know that's not how you chat at home. You're like, oh,
- 10:49Speaker 2: I would just get so many chicks, like all the time.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Yeah, eggs in the basket. Chicks.
- 10:56Speaker 2: You so much confidence. So it's funny hearing you speak
- 10:59Speaker 2: like this.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I probably I have false confidence. I like to think
- 11:03Speaker 1: i'd be fantastic, but in reality situation, I'm sure I wouldn't.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Okay, well, I'm glad that I was right.
- 11:08Speaker 1: And I was like, you know, no, the podcast is over,
- 11:11Speaker 1: I'll tell you how awesome I do. But yeah, reality
- 11:16Speaker 1: is Though, Michelle wasn't like too fond of the idea
- 11:19Speaker 1: going out there talking to people. I can understand, I
- 11:21Speaker 1: wouldn't be.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Fond of it, No, I completely understand.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Yeah. So instead she found herself focusing on her career.
- 11:29Speaker 1: She worked at a job as a marketing support manager
- 11:32Speaker 1: for an insurance company. Now Here she would dedicate nearly
- 11:36Speaker 1: all her time and energy, and she would at times
- 11:39Speaker 1: even clock seventy hours a week. Yeah, which left absolutely
- 11:44Speaker 1: zero time for dating, even if she did want to.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Okay, that's actually like not healthy though, that's a terrible
- 11:50Speaker 2: work life balance exactly.
- 11:52Speaker 1: But I mean I understand if someone's enjoying it and
- 11:54Speaker 1: if someone is working forward something, So no hate on it.
- 11:57Speaker 1: But that's a lot.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, when you own your own business like
- 12:01Speaker 2: I do, I probably actually clock that many hours some
- 12:04Speaker 2: weeks for sure, probably, so who might as talk.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, the funny thing is, though the world has
- 12:11Speaker 1: an interesting way of working. Sometimes now you try and
- 12:14Speaker 1: turn to blind eye and not seek something out, so
- 12:17Speaker 1: sometimes instead that thing often comes looking for you. So
- 12:21Speaker 1: it wasn't even a year later when Michelle will be
- 12:24Speaker 1: at a Starbucks grabbing a coffee on her break when
- 12:26Speaker 1: she would catch the eye of someone. Now the ma'am
- 12:29Speaker 1: was Ian Diaz. He was struck by her beauty, and
- 12:33Speaker 1: he introduced himself, and against Michelle's thoughts on dating, she
- 12:37Speaker 1: found herself dropping her guard and being wrapped up in
- 12:40Speaker 1: this guy as he kind of spoke to her. He
- 12:43Speaker 1: was quite charming, sweet, and he was a US marshal
- 12:46Speaker 1: at that and before she knew it, she found herself
- 12:49Speaker 1: giving him her phone number so they could keep in
- 12:51Speaker 1: touch and see each other again. Look at that, and
- 12:55Speaker 1: so they did. They saw each other again, and then
- 12:58Speaker 1: they were head over here eels. In fact, it was
- 13:01Speaker 1: moving pretty fast, and it was only two dates later
- 13:04Speaker 1: that Ian would say those three powerful words, I love you.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Holy shit. Okay there I was like thinking, is there
- 13:11Speaker 2: are you dropping a bomb? Is it some other three words?
- 13:13Speaker 3: But really yeah, he said, I lost quick only two
- 13:16Speaker 3: dates later. Sometimes you know, you know, maybe yeah, And
- 13:19Speaker 3: I mean she felt the same way. She said, it
- 13:21Speaker 3: seemed like so so right, it seemed to just fit.
- 13:24Speaker 3: And this was like there were two puzzle pieces, like
- 13:26Speaker 3: nothing felt wrong about it.
- 13:28Speaker 1: So I mean, good for that.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:30Speaker 1: And it was spring of twenty fourteen when the two
- 13:32Speaker 1: moved in together, and this is when Michelle would realize
- 13:36Speaker 1: just who Ian really was.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Shit, So is he a terrible person?
- 13:41Speaker 1: Well, we'll get into it. And I mean, at first,
- 13:44Speaker 1: things weren't like. At first, things weren't too bad. Ian
- 13:47Speaker 1: did have a very controlling side, though, and he would
- 13:49Speaker 1: begin showing it more and more. He started trying to
- 13:53Speaker 1: tell her how he wanted her to dress and present herself.
- 13:56Speaker 1: He wanted her to be more sexy. Oh wow, which
- 14:01Speaker 1: I mean in itself isn't too harmful if it's a
- 14:03Speaker 1: conversation between two consenting people exploring their sexuality together, being like, hey,
- 14:08Speaker 1: you should wear that, like that outfit that I really
- 14:11Speaker 1: like to dinner tonight, like that.
- 14:12Speaker 2: There's nothing wrong with that, right, There are I think
- 14:14Speaker 2: circumstances where that can be totally fine.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Yeah, but boundaries.
- 14:19Speaker 2: But then if she wants to wear something else, like,
- 14:21Speaker 2: she can fucking wear something else exactly.
- 14:23Speaker 1: So yeah, but in this case it was very one sided.
- 14:27Speaker 1: He was very much so like, yeah, you should, you
- 14:29Speaker 1: should do this, you should do that. Like he he
- 14:31Speaker 1: had ideas of wanting to wear crop tops all the time.
- 14:34Speaker 1: He wanted her to put on more makeup, he wanted
- 14:36Speaker 1: to do like carlic nails, he wanted oh wow. He
- 14:39Speaker 1: was even pressuring her to pierce her belly button.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Okay, I don't love any of this at all.
- 14:44Speaker 1: No, which again Devil's advocate, I was pressuring you to
- 14:49Speaker 1: pierce your nose recently.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Yeah, but honestly that you had You've been wanting me
- 14:55Speaker 2: to forever.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Only because you wanted to.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Well, yeah, because I have mentioned it and lots of
- 14:59Speaker 2: times and like, I'm what, I want to do it
- 15:01Speaker 2: so fun.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Yeah, but that's the thing I was fucking off right.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I would bring it up like every few months, being like, hey,
- 15:07Speaker 1: you ever pierce your nose? And you'd be like yeah,
- 15:09Speaker 1: one day and be like, Okay, I think you should
- 15:10Speaker 1: do it soon. Yeah, And that's about the extent.
- 15:12Speaker 2: And then I did it when I wanted to do
- 15:14Speaker 2: it exactly.
- 15:15Speaker 1: No, He's like, I want you to pierce she belly
- 15:17Speaker 1: Oh my god, here's she belly button.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Honestly, let's go now. That just like makes me so uncomfortable.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Yeah. He was really trying to push this. He clearly
- 15:24Speaker 1: had alter like what's the word, I'm looking for ulterior motives.
- 15:29Speaker 1: He had an agenda sort of thing.
- 15:31Speaker 2: He was trying to create something that she wasn't.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Exactly and all of that sort of stuff he's trying
- 15:36Speaker 1: to create was exactly against the very nature of who
- 15:39Speaker 1: Michelle was.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Oh boy.
- 15:42Speaker 1: He would manage to convince her of many things over
- 15:45Speaker 1: the course of their relationship, one of which was to
- 15:47Speaker 1: leave her current job where she put in all these hours.
- 15:51Speaker 1: He convinced her to leave her job and start a
- 15:54Speaker 1: marketing position at Disneyland, which is a place that's fun.
- 15:58Speaker 1: It is and it's a place said he previously worked at,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and he knew many people who were still employed there.
- 16:05Speaker 1: So in this position, Michelle would take a twenty thousand
- 16:08Speaker 1: dollars pay cut oh annually.
- 16:10Speaker 2: That's substantial.
- 16:11Speaker 1: And in this position she would also be under the
- 16:14Speaker 1: watchful eye of many people who could report back to Ian.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Oh okay, I kind kind of wondering if that's where
- 16:20Speaker 2: that was going.
- 16:21Speaker 1: That's definitely where that was going.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Holy shit.
- 16:24Speaker 1: So he had her right where he wanted her. She
- 16:27Speaker 1: was dependent on him now with the pay cut, she
- 16:30Speaker 1: was always under his watch. They were living together, and
- 16:34Speaker 1: she was beginning to get her to do more and
- 16:36Speaker 1: more things that he wanted.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Gosh, okay, I'm like all hot and bothered here, not
- 16:40Speaker 2: a good way I do not. She clarified that I
- 16:44Speaker 2: do not like what's going on here at all.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Well, their relationship, though it was not the best in
- 16:50Speaker 1: Michelle's eyes, it was still one worth being a part of.
- 16:52Speaker 1: It wasn't getting terrible.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Yet she still loved him.
- 16:56Speaker 1: She still loved him. Most of these things were just
- 16:58Speaker 1: minor red flags at this point. He's not like forcing
- 17:02Speaker 1: her to wear crop tops. He's not forcing her to
- 17:04Speaker 1: get the belly button. It's just a lot of pressure on. Okay,
- 17:07Speaker 1: you know, he's putting a lot of pressure, and it's
- 17:09Speaker 1: starting to get more and more. But she still does
- 17:11Speaker 1: love him, and she still wasn't aware of all the manipulation,
- 17:15Speaker 1: necessarily to a degree. But even still she would be
- 17:19Speaker 1: blind blinded by the love for him, right, and even
- 17:23Speaker 1: more so when he proposed to her under the iconic
- 17:27Speaker 1: Christmas tree in New York City Rockefeller Center.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Shit, I mean gosh, I feel like someone will propose
- 17:33Speaker 2: to me that way now, and I'd say yes, thanks.
- 17:36Speaker 1: You should remember you're married.
- 17:38Speaker 2: That's just the most iconic thing you can do, right.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Yeah. No, He literally bought her plane tickets, flew her
- 17:45Speaker 1: there for her birthday, and proposed to her under the
- 17:49Speaker 1: Christmas tree right there.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Oh my god, Okay, well, I kind of do.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Really like that, and she of course said that yes. Now,
- 17:57Speaker 1: this again was another turning point in the relaflationship. It
- 18:01Speaker 1: was no longer just asking and convincing her to dress sexier.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Ian wanted his new fiance to have sex with other
- 18:08Speaker 1: men and to let him watch. Okay, again, Devil's advocate.
- 18:13Speaker 1: If all parties are consenting, there's no harm harm in.
- 18:16Speaker 2: This, right, If she's into that as well, yeah, I.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Mean, like whatever floats your boat. The only problem is Michelle.
- 18:22Speaker 1: As previously mentioned, was it about Christian and the whole
- 18:25Speaker 1: cuckhold situation, because that's the definition of this, you know,
- 18:28Speaker 1: someone who gets off on watching their partner in a
- 18:30Speaker 1: sexual relationship.
- 18:31Speaker 2: She didn't want to do this, she.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Didn't and it's far from her beliefs. She didn't want
- 18:36Speaker 1: to do this. It's not even part of what she
- 18:38Speaker 1: believes in.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Just no, right, Okay, yeah, that's not good at all.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Still, though, Ian managed to chip away and eventually convince
- 18:46Speaker 1: her and coerce her into it.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Okay, so under the influence of apparent cold medication and
- 18:54Speaker 1: several shots of fireball, and of course, tired of the
- 18:58Speaker 1: harassing cont didn't do this, do this, do this. She
- 19:02Speaker 1: finally caved, and she finally agreed. So Ian found a
- 19:07Speaker 1: stranger on the internet from a website with a less
- 19:10Speaker 1: than positive reputation known as Craig's List.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Oh my word, yes, okay, it just keeps getting worse. Okay.
- 19:18Speaker 1: So that night she engaged with the stranger while Ian
- 19:23Speaker 1: watched Okay. The next morning, Michelle was filled with utter
- 19:28Speaker 1: regret with what happened, even more so when she saw
- 19:31Speaker 1: the video that Ian had recorded. Oh shit, yeah, and
- 19:36Speaker 1: she begged him to delete the video.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, this is bad.
- 19:40Speaker 1: He refused to delete it. He didn't seem to care
- 19:44Speaker 1: at all about the feelings of his fiance going through
- 19:46Speaker 1: all this regret, and instead of accepting his part that
- 19:50Speaker 1: he played and coercing her, he just simply blamed her,
- 19:53Speaker 1: saying that it's not like anyone put a gun to
- 19:55Speaker 1: your head and make you do it.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Wow, okay, this is un believable. So it's almost like
- 20:02Speaker 2: he did this to have some serious blackmail against her.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Oh and it's kind of what I'm feeling like.
- 20:09Speaker 1: But at this point it can be perceived as that, okay,
- 20:12Speaker 1: that there's a potential for this to be blackmail, but no,
- 20:14Speaker 1: it's not blackmail material, it's that's just him. Okay, he
- 20:18Speaker 1: just gets off on that sort of shit. Gosh, and
- 20:22Speaker 1: I mean unfortunately she she believed him. She's like, yeah, no,
- 20:24Speaker 1: one did put a gun to my head. He didn't
- 20:27Speaker 1: make me do this. But just because he didn't physically
- 20:29Speaker 1: make you doesn't mean he fucking didn't gaslight you into this,
- 20:32Speaker 1: which is exactly what he did.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Well, yeah, if he's constantly preshing her and bringing it
- 20:37Speaker 2: up and she's feeling like she's not making him happy
- 20:40Speaker 2: because she's not giving him what he wants or whatever,
- 20:42Speaker 2: she and then she goes and does it, and then
- 20:44Speaker 2: it's like he's almost, well, I didn't make you do it,
- 20:48Speaker 2: Like what the actual fuck?
- 20:50Speaker 1: Exactly, So she believed him. She's like, it is my fault,
- 20:55Speaker 1: is what she's thinking. Wow, it's not him, it's me.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Are they married at this point?
- 21:00Speaker 1: Sorry?
- 21:00Speaker 2: Or not disengaged? Right?
- 21:02Speaker 1: Just engaged? Yeah?
- 21:03Speaker 2: Okay?
- 21:05Speaker 1: So four months later after this, the relationship continues. The
- 21:08Speaker 1: two would buy a four hundred and seventy thousand dollars
- 21:11Speaker 1: condo together. Both their names are on the mortgage, and
- 21:14Speaker 1: of which Michelle paid the deposit all on her own.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Instead of this being, you know, the thing to bring
- 21:21Speaker 1: them closer together like she was hoping, it was actually
- 21:24Speaker 1: a thing that drove him even farther apart. Ian was brutal,
- 21:29Speaker 1: his temper only growing more and more. There were countless
- 21:32Speaker 1: verbal fights and even physical altercations where he would in
- 21:36Speaker 1: one instant, pin her down, forcing her in it as
- 21:38Speaker 1: will not I don't want to. I kind of worded
- 21:41Speaker 1: that bad. He didn't sexually abuse her or anything. It
- 21:43Speaker 1: was just a physical altercation. Okay, Okay. Finally, though she
- 21:49Speaker 1: saw that Ian was a major problem, she began to
- 21:53Speaker 1: realize it's not me, it's him. He's this problem in
- 21:57Speaker 1: this relationship.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Tim, I'm glad that she had realization.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Yeah, so she realized she needed to leave. Okay, So
- 22:04Speaker 1: by August that year, she did right on. Ian of course,
- 22:09Speaker 1: was furious. He watched as she sped off in her
- 22:12Speaker 1: car to go live with her mom and her dad,
- 22:15Speaker 1: and over the course of the next year, a long
- 22:17Speaker 1: legal battle over the condo would ensue. And this is
- 22:21Speaker 1: where Michelle let her anger get the better of her.
- 22:26Speaker 1: She sent Ian angry biblical emails filled with cursing and damnation,
- 22:32Speaker 1: threatening his eventual judgment from both the law and the Lord.
- 22:38Speaker 1: And I mean it was kind of out of out
- 22:40Speaker 1: of bad taste, but there was nothing really threatening per
- 22:44Speaker 1: se about it. You can kind of read into it
- 22:47Speaker 1: and assume, but she didn't say like I'm going to
- 22:49Speaker 1: kill you. It was just like you're going to get
- 22:50Speaker 1: what's coming to you. You're going to be judged one
- 22:53Speaker 1: day like all this sort of like the wrath of God.
- 22:56Speaker 1: This sort of stuff right, very biblical as it sounded,
- 23:01Speaker 1: and as terrifying as it could be coming across she
- 23:03Speaker 1: was actually the one who was terrified. Ian, due to
- 23:07Speaker 1: his law enforcement background, had access to firearms. In fact,
- 23:12Speaker 1: he had a license to carry, and she even noticed
- 23:17Speaker 1: unmarked vans following her around on a regular basis. So
- 23:21Speaker 1: she began to think that he was using his authority
- 23:24Speaker 1: as an officer of law to have other people follow her. Yeah,
- 23:29Speaker 1: which ain't cool.
- 23:30Speaker 2: No, So she's just like scared shitless.
- 23:33Speaker 1: He oh, I'm rightfully so, oh yeah. Could you imagine
- 23:35Speaker 1: just driving around after this sort of relationship and then
- 23:40Speaker 1: seeing an unmarked van just following you?
- 23:45Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 23:46Speaker 1: Fuck this shit, I'm out, I know, holy fuck.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Like I don't even know how you'd really have a
- 23:52Speaker 2: restless sleep.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Yeah, right, it probably wouldn't.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Oh boy. Okay.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Now, she had reported him to both her school and
- 24:00Speaker 1: her workplace in hopes of like getting him banned, and
- 24:03Speaker 1: apparently it was only the school that had listened. Her
- 24:07Speaker 1: workplace didn't take it too seriously, but it did piss
- 24:11Speaker 1: him off when he found out that he was banned
- 24:13Speaker 1: from where she was still going to school. Good and
- 24:16Speaker 1: in return, he reported her to the authorities for her
- 24:20Speaker 1: threatening emails, and he also applied for a restraining order,
- 24:24Speaker 1: though it was denied and he was unsuccessful.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Okay, that's good. Yeah, I mean the fact that he
- 24:29Speaker 2: has those emails that sucks.
- 24:31Speaker 1: It does, so that's kind of that. It was left
- 24:36Speaker 1: at that. They're kind of working towards their legal things,
- 24:39Speaker 1: trying to just move on with their lives, and eventually
- 24:43Speaker 1: they did agree to some legal terms in the condo
- 24:45Speaker 1: where you know, he's going to continue to living in there,
- 24:48Speaker 1: which he currently is, and she's going to continue to pay,
- 24:51Speaker 1: and there's going to be some about how if he fails,
- 24:53Speaker 1: they're going to try and sell it together and split it.
- 24:56Speaker 1: I didn't dive too much into that they're going to
- 24:58Speaker 1: be splitting the cost of the eventually here, but in
- 25:02Speaker 1: the meantime he is still living there.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Okay.
- 25:05Speaker 1: And while he's living there, Ian met someone else.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Okay, I was thinking, what does he do? Does he
- 25:11Speaker 2: destroy it? Does he like lower the value? But okay,
- 25:13Speaker 2: he meets someone else.
- 25:14Speaker 1: He meets someone else, and he meets someone by the
- 25:17Speaker 1: name of Angela Connell, and the two of them moved fast,
- 25:21Speaker 1: so fast that they actually married one month after meeting. Yeah,
- 25:29Speaker 1: so was now Angela Diaz. And three months after that
- 25:34Speaker 1: they announced they were expecting twins.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Wow, Okay, that's very quick.
- 25:40Speaker 1: So Ian had a new woman in his life, a
- 25:44Speaker 1: new bride in fact, a family with kids on the way,
- 25:49Speaker 1: and a home that was supposed to be Michelle's was
- 25:53Speaker 1: supposed to be her mm hmmm.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Because so this family is living in that condo.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Yeah, a condo that she is still currently paying.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Okay, and I'm sure it was, you know, not so
- 26:05Speaker 1: good news for Michelle to hear when she did discover this. Now,
- 26:10Speaker 1: I know we have a few turning points already in
- 26:12Speaker 1: this story, so I do just want to clarify. Buckle up,
- 26:16Speaker 1: because here's another one, and there's more to come still,
- 26:20Speaker 1: but while living her new and happy life, Angela with
- 26:24Speaker 1: Ian one day received an onslaught of threatening biblical emails. Okay,
- 26:33Speaker 1: one of which, for example, read this, you deserve nothing
- 26:36Speaker 1: but a life of lonely torture. I have ways to
- 26:39Speaker 1: hurt you. There is no place you will be safe anymore. Now,
- 26:43Speaker 1: this one particularly isn't very biblical, but many of them
- 26:46Speaker 1: were on the biblical lines. So it's quite a horrific
- 26:51Speaker 1: email to receive. And unfortunately it's exactly what this email
- 26:55Speaker 1: did say when Angela received it in twenty sixteen.
- 26:58Speaker 2: She has to know a little bit of this backstory, though,
- 27:01Speaker 2: what's that like? The backstory? Angela? Like his name's Ian, right, Yes,
- 27:06Speaker 2: he would have had to, or maybe he wouldn't. I'm
- 27:08Speaker 2: curious if you share anything in regards to about Michelle
- 27:12Speaker 2: to Angela.
- 27:14Speaker 1: He most definitely would have because Michelle, Michelle knew I'm sorry,
- 27:17Speaker 1: Angela knew of Michelle. And ok yeah, okay, because when
- 27:22Speaker 1: all these emails were pouring in, she sees she's getting
- 27:24Speaker 1: them from Michelle, and she knows who Michelle is. Okay,
- 27:28Speaker 1: so yeah, so Angela just tried to simply ignore these
- 27:31Speaker 1: emails at first, but the messages persist. They began with
- 27:36Speaker 1: death threats. They began with threats of having people come
- 27:40Speaker 1: over and rape her. Oh, and even threats on the
- 27:43Speaker 1: lives of killing her unborn children.
- 27:46Speaker 2: My gosh, Okay, that's too that's too far.
- 27:50Speaker 1: It gets worse because they also the emails began having
- 27:54Speaker 1: attachments to them of images of women being killed, beaten
- 27:59Speaker 1: head bodies, survivors and non survivors of violent assaults, and
- 28:05Speaker 1: even gruesome images of fetuses.
- 28:09Speaker 2: Really, hey, yes, key, And I don't know, I like,
- 28:14Speaker 2: is this legitimately Michelle doing this?
- 28:17Speaker 1: Angela was receiving these emails from I believe it was
- 28:21Speaker 1: upwards of six different accounts, all under the name of
- 28:24Speaker 1: Michelle Hadley.
- 28:26Speaker 2: H I'm not fully convinced that it's the Michelle that's
- 28:31Speaker 2: sending me no why Well, I don't know. Maybe I'm
- 28:34Speaker 2: gonna eat these words, but like I was on her
- 28:37Speaker 2: side like a few minutes ago here and now it
- 28:41Speaker 2: doesn't seem so good. So I don't know, I'm gonna
- 28:44Speaker 2: just keep listening.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Well, it was all too much for Angela. She wanted
- 28:47Speaker 1: to get off social media. She didn't want to have
- 28:49Speaker 1: any contact with Michelle in any way, shape or form,
- 28:52Speaker 1: so she deleted her profiles, and she was terrified to
- 28:55Speaker 1: the point that she was becoming a recluse. She was
- 28:58Speaker 1: staying inside, staying away much as she could, and the
- 29:03Speaker 1: emails kept coming in, and so eventually she filed for
- 29:07Speaker 1: a restraining order against Michelle. However, even with the restraining
- 29:12Speaker 1: order being filed, that emails didn't stop, and police were
- 29:16Speaker 1: now very concerned for Angela's safety, especially when they realized
- 29:19Speaker 1: that Ian had also filed a similar complaint against Michelle
- 29:23Speaker 1: in the past. With these biblical threatening emails, so safety
- 29:28Speaker 1: was a concern because she has a history of this already.
- 29:32Speaker 1: So not long after Angela had her successful restraining order
- 29:36Speaker 1: in place, Angela was sitting at home one day and
- 29:39Speaker 1: her email box once again starting getting flooded with emails.
- 29:44Speaker 1: This time though, it was in response to a Craigslist ad,
- 29:49Speaker 1: an ominous post that offered to hire men to fulfill
- 29:55Speaker 1: a rape fantasy. Okay, the ad gave Angela's dress, descriptive
- 30:01Speaker 1: of her oh, what she looked like, where she lived,
- 30:04Speaker 1: phone number, even gave her dog walking routine, what the
- 30:08Speaker 1: dog looked like in the breed, offering to pay men
- 30:11Speaker 1: to come and grab her, force her into her home
- 30:15Speaker 1: and fulfill this rape fantasy.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Okay, See at first I didn't quite I didn't quite
- 30:20Speaker 2: get what you meant here about. Holy shit. Yeah, so
- 30:24Speaker 2: someone has put an ad out for her, yes, saying
- 30:28Speaker 2: that she has a desire to be raped.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Correct someone, wow, is impersonating Angela on Craigslist and she
- 30:36Speaker 1: is now receiving email responses from people who are willing
- 30:39Speaker 1: to fulfill the ad.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Okay, that is really disturbing that. That is actually terrifying,
- 30:45Speaker 2: isn't it. Wow? Okay, Like I'm I'm really I don't
- 30:51Speaker 2: even know what to say to that. That's let that
- 30:53Speaker 2: sink in terrifying. Wow, I've never I don't know, I'm
- 30:59Speaker 2: just ever. Oh sometimes I just think I'm like too pier.
- 31:03Speaker 2: I would just never have thought of like something so
- 31:05Speaker 2: terrible to do to someone like that.
- 31:06Speaker 1: And how easy would it be to do that.
- 31:09Speaker 2: To Oh gosh, that's disturbing. Yeah, it would be easy.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Someone could take five minutes out of their day and
- 31:17Speaker 1: do that to someone. That's it.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Yeah, And like, I mean, I guess there's ways of
- 31:22Speaker 2: going about tracking who it is and stuff. Oh definitely,
- 31:25Speaker 2: it's not necessarily super easy. Well, it's supers figure out
- 31:29Speaker 2: who it is right off the.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Bat well, I mean, IP addresses and all that sort
- 31:32Speaker 1: of stuff like it can be traced easy enough. But
- 31:36Speaker 1: if you want to put that out on someone, you
- 31:38Speaker 1: can do it. You're gonna get fucking caught, but you
- 31:41Speaker 1: know what I mean.
- 31:42Speaker 2: Yeah, So see, I'm just gonna throw out something just
- 31:45Speaker 2: so left fieldier and I know that I'm probably just
- 31:48Speaker 2: so like off okay, but for some reason, and I
- 31:52Speaker 2: think it might just be how you presented it, I
- 31:55Speaker 2: think Ian is a piece of shit. That's his name, right, Yes,
- 31:58Speaker 2: it's Ian. For some reason, I just think Ian is
- 32:00Speaker 2: like such a piece of shit that like this is
- 32:03Speaker 2: coming from him, Okay, And I don't know why my
- 32:07Speaker 2: brain's going that way, but it is. And I'm sure
- 32:10Speaker 2: it's gonna have some sort of other outcome. But I'm
- 32:13Speaker 2: just just sharing my thoughts.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, throwing your dart in the dart board seeing
- 32:16Speaker 1: if it sticks. Hey yeah, okay, Well I'm just gonna
- 32:19Speaker 1: leave it at that. We'll keep going and we'll see
- 32:21Speaker 1: if your theory plays out.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Okay.
- 32:24Speaker 1: So after receiving these Craigslist responses, it would be three
- 32:27Speaker 1: days later when Angela would be viciously attacked in her
- 32:32Speaker 1: own garage.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, no.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Someone broke in tried to rape her, but she managed
- 32:39Speaker 1: to fight them off.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Oh okay, that's amazing.
- 32:43Speaker 1: By the time the police arrived, the individual had fled,
- 32:46Speaker 1: but Angela was found in the garage basically in a panic.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Well yeah, holy heck, she would just never feel safe ever. Yeah,
- 32:55Speaker 2: she needs to like flee this area.
- 32:57Speaker 1: So this was the last straw for police. Imediately went
- 33:00Speaker 1: to find Michelle, who was just coming home from a
- 33:02Speaker 1: date when she found police pulling up. Police parked in
- 33:06Speaker 1: her driveway as she was pulling up, and there she
- 33:09Speaker 1: was arrested, and they seized her phone, tablet, and laptop
- 33:14Speaker 1: under a warrant, and they sent her away to prison.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Now there, she spent one night in jail before her
- 33:19Speaker 1: parents paid her bail, which I believe I didn't write
- 33:23Speaker 1: this one down, but I believe it was only a
- 33:24Speaker 1: thousand dollars bail that night and she was free.
- 33:28Speaker 2: I'd pay that for you.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Yeah, well, thank you, I appreciate that. But the moment
- 33:33Speaker 1: she was free, Angela began receiving more responses from Craigslist
- 33:37Speaker 1: ads again about more rape fantasies.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Well, yeah, because someone literally knows that she just got
- 33:43Speaker 2: out of jail.
- 33:44Speaker 1: Yeah, but who ian Ian? Okay, you're sticking with.
- 33:48Speaker 2: That, eh, I don't know.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Well, as a result of this second round of Craigslist ads,
- 33:56Speaker 1: a seventeen year old boy who thought the income counter
- 34:00Speaker 1: was consensual, was found lurking outside of Angela's place three
- 34:04Speaker 1: weeks later, and Michelle was once again arrested. Her bail
- 34:09Speaker 1: this time, though, was one million dollars and she faced
- 34:13Speaker 1: life in prison.
- 34:15Speaker 2: Okay, well, I mean some serious shit's going down here
- 34:18Speaker 2: like this is terrifying.
- 34:19Speaker 1: And of course this time her parents couldn't pay bail,
- 34:22Speaker 1: they couldn't get her out.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Well, no, that's a big chunk of change.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Oh definitely, I don't definitely have that.
- 34:27Speaker 2: I would be able to do that. I would do
- 34:29Speaker 2: that for you. I'm sorry, fair enough, I can't expect that.
- 34:34Speaker 1: So eighty eight days doesn't sound like a whole lot
- 34:36Speaker 1: to most people, and I mean it really isn't, especially
- 34:38Speaker 1: considering the grand scheme of like life. But it mustn't
- 34:42Speaker 1: have felt like it must have fell get dragged on
- 34:44Speaker 1: forever for Michelle while she was sitting in prison, because
- 34:47Speaker 1: she spent eighty eight days locked behind bars for those
- 34:50Speaker 1: emails in those posts, all eighty eight days for a
- 34:53Speaker 1: crime that she claimed she didn't commit. Okay, Michelle always
- 34:59Speaker 1: claimed that she was innocent. But then again, I mean
- 35:02Speaker 1: a lot of people.
- 35:03Speaker 2: Do, right, Oh my gosh. Yeah, I'm sure there's probably
- 35:05Speaker 2: a high percentage of people in jail right now that
- 35:07Speaker 2: say they didn't do it.
- 35:09Speaker 1: I'm innocent. I'll tell you.
- 35:11Speaker 2: Some of them might not.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Have, but it's very possible.
- 35:14Speaker 2: The majority of them in there, I'm sure have.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Yeah. So, yeah, she just stood aground. She said it
- 35:20Speaker 1: wasn't her, and that she was telling the truth, and
- 35:23Speaker 1: she was almost certain she knew who it was. She
- 35:27Speaker 1: was certain it was her ex fiance behind it all.
- 35:32Speaker 2: I'm just like, I'm like, Michelle, I believe you. It
- 35:36Speaker 2: wasn't you.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Well, while Michelle was behind bars, her parents, like I said,
- 35:42Speaker 1: couldn't pay her bail. But what they could do is
- 35:44Speaker 1: they could hire a good lawyer with what with what
- 35:47Speaker 1: money they did have. Sorry, I stumbled out there. And
- 35:51Speaker 1: while they were doing that, they were able to look
- 35:53Speaker 1: and see if they could unravel the story and what
- 35:57Speaker 1: really happened. And that's exactly what did occur. The story
- 36:02Speaker 1: began to unwind and reveal itself. It's also at this
- 36:07Speaker 1: point that it really began to show that law enforcement
- 36:11Speaker 1: were clearly not doing their job or really even attempting to.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Oh, okay, I think I'm onto something here.
- 36:19Speaker 1: So well, a little bit of basic digging from Michelle's
- 36:23Speaker 1: parents and lawyer began to unearth every bit of truth.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Michelle couldn't be responsible. School records show that she was
- 36:31Speaker 1: in class with many alibis with.
- 36:35Speaker 2: Other students, all her classmates.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Yeah, teacher, when a lot of these emails were being sent.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Other documents showed that she was briefly hospitalized for another
- 36:45Speaker 1: time when emails were being sent. A simple eyepiece software
- 36:51Speaker 1: a tracker was installed by her parents and they managed
- 36:55Speaker 1: to download some messages and show that the IP was
- 36:58Speaker 1: not from Michelle's phone or any locations she had ever
- 37:01Speaker 1: been been at during anything being sent.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Good parents, I like them.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Yeah, and all this is being done from the comfort
- 37:08Speaker 1: of their own home. Yet police didn't even attempt to
- 37:11Speaker 1: look at IP addresses or any sort of documentation on
- 37:14Speaker 1: her whereabouts at all.
- 37:15Speaker 2: They're just assuming it's her.
- 37:17Speaker 1: They're just assuming they're taking the words.
- 37:18Speaker 2: She spent eighty eight days in jail for God's sakes.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Yep. So she hadn't written any of these emails or
- 37:25Speaker 1: the job posts on Craiglist. In fact, she had no
- 37:27Speaker 1: idea how they even got up there, and she now
- 37:29Speaker 1: had the evidence to back it up and prove it. However,
- 37:33Speaker 1: as they were collecting all this and getting it ready
- 37:35Speaker 1: to defend their daughter, something unexpected happened. Oh oh Ian Diaz,
- 37:42Speaker 1: Michelle's ex fiance, walked into the police office and confessed
- 37:48Speaker 1: that he had just discovered his new wife, Angela, was
- 37:52Speaker 1: actually the one who'd been behind this whole thing. She
- 37:56Speaker 1: was sending the emails herself. She posts of the Craigslist ads.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Oh shit, I never would have called that one, he said.
- 38:05Speaker 1: He discovered this after he began to untangle a web
- 38:08Speaker 1: of her lies, including one of a previous miscarriage while
- 38:12Speaker 1: they were together, and then finding out that it was
- 38:15Speaker 1: actually an aborted child because it was from a previous relationship. Okay,
- 38:21Speaker 1: she wasn't sure who the father was, so aborted the child,
- 38:24Speaker 1: claimed it was a miscarriage, and then was then pregnant
- 38:28Speaker 1: with his twins right. However, that pregnancy was also fake,
- 38:33Speaker 1: one she falsified by purchasing ultrasound images off Etsy for
- 38:37Speaker 1: seven dollars.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Holy I didn't even know that was a thing.
- 38:41Speaker 1: So police were forced to finally begin to do a
- 38:46Speaker 1: proper investigation. And then we looked in and when they
- 38:48Speaker 1: looked into Angela closer, they found some damning evidence. All
- 38:52Speaker 1: the emails and Craiglist posts were done using a VPN,
- 38:56Speaker 1: which covers IP addresses. It essentially assigns a and a
- 39:00Speaker 1: IPA address from somewhere else instead of your own right
- 39:04Speaker 1: which under a warrant you can easily dig up the
- 39:06Speaker 1: real IPA address. So they were able to find that
- 39:10Speaker 1: the ip address was coming from their condo, exactly where
- 39:13Speaker 1: she would be, and they also found eight separate online
- 39:19Speaker 1: email accounts under Michelle's name that Angela had created. They
- 39:25Speaker 1: also looked into security footage from their condo and Angela's
- 39:29Speaker 1: assault in the garage. There was no.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Attacker, seriously, no way.
- 39:35Speaker 1: It was Angela herself. She ripped her own shirt, bloodied
- 39:39Speaker 1: her own head, and called the cops all on her own.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Digging into her history prior to all of this, they
- 39:46Speaker 1: would uncover that she was a pathological liar, spinning lies
- 39:51Speaker 1: from basically everywhere she went. One lie that stuck out
- 39:55Speaker 1: to me from her past. I don't want to dig
- 39:57Speaker 1: into too much of it, but one line in particular,
- 39:59Speaker 1: even faked cervical cancer to manipulate an ex boyfriend.
- 40:04Speaker 2: That is disgusting, isn't it. Huh? Okay, well, fuck this.
- 40:08Speaker 2: Though I thought I had this.
- 40:09Speaker 1: In the bag, you thought you had it in the
- 40:11Speaker 1: bag here I did, well.
- 40:14Speaker 2: But this is way worse. Really, this is unbelievable. Well,
- 40:17Speaker 2: I don't know. Is this worse? I don't know. I'm
- 40:19Speaker 2: gonna keep listening.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Okay. Well, In January sixth, twenty seventeen, she was finally arrested.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Angela was in cuffs, and the credit was all given
- 40:31Speaker 1: to detectives for their hard work cracking the case, even
- 40:35Speaker 1: though that was far from the truth. Yeah, no kidding, Yeah,
- 40:38Speaker 1: Michelle had her name dragged through the mud in national headlines.
- 40:43Speaker 2: Hopefully she got some sort of compensation.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Well, initially she only got a simple I'm sorry and
- 40:48Speaker 1: an apology. No no, until she would later take the
- 40:54Speaker 1: city to court and settled with not only a city
- 40:58Speaker 1: but also the police force on an undisclosed amount. Good,
- 41:03Speaker 1: which is good, but still though Michelle didn't want money,
- 41:06Speaker 1: That's not what she was after. She wanted justice. Angela
- 41:11Speaker 1: would plead guilty in October of twenty seventeen as part
- 41:15Speaker 1: of a plea deal and only receive a five year sentence.
- 41:19Speaker 2: Whoa what?
- 41:21Speaker 1: However, Angela was not Michelle's target for justice. It was Ian.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Okay, say that again.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Michelle knew Angela was a part of this. She knew
- 41:36Speaker 1: she played a part, Okay, but she was insistent that
- 41:40Speaker 1: Ian was the mastermind behind all of this.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Okay, so she thinks she Okay, so maybe I'm not
- 41:47Speaker 2: totally okay, Okay, We're back into this now, I'm getting
- 41:51Speaker 2: excited again. That's so bad?
- 41:54Speaker 1: Are you good?
- 41:55Speaker 2: I'm good? Yeah. Well, because she knows that he's a
- 41:58Speaker 2: piece of shit, so let's hear.
- 42:01Speaker 1: This, okay. Well, she figured that when they split, he
- 42:06Speaker 1: was so enraged that heft that she left him that
- 42:10Speaker 1: he did all of this to exact revenge on her,
- 42:14Speaker 1: even potentially part of getting the condo all to himself
- 42:18Speaker 1: and not having to split the money with her as
- 42:21Speaker 1: a result. Yeah, so the police were incredibly reluctant to
- 42:26Speaker 1: charge Ian with anything or even investigate him on anything. Now,
- 42:29Speaker 1: maybe they had a hard time pinning something on him
- 42:31Speaker 1: because they'd use Angelo to cover his tracks whatever, I mean, whatever,
- 42:34Speaker 1: they're trying to protect one of their own. There's also
- 42:37Speaker 1: something called the blue wall, because during this whole case,
- 42:39Speaker 1: his name was actually covered for a lot of it
- 42:42Speaker 1: while the two women were dragged through the mud. The
- 42:44Speaker 1: blue wall meaning basically the police protecting one of their own.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Okay, so he was actually a police officer.
- 42:51Speaker 1: Sorry, I can't what was his job? I have to
- 42:53Speaker 1: scroll all the way back. He was part of law enforcement.
- 42:55Speaker 1: He wasn't a police officer per se.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Oh way, yeah, I can't remember what the heck you
- 43:00Speaker 2: it said?
- 43:01Speaker 1: Here it is he's a US marshal Oh okay, okay,
- 43:04Speaker 1: So being a part of law enforcement basically, you know,
- 43:08Speaker 1: people are protecting their own sort of thing. So it's
- 43:12Speaker 1: kind of exactly a gray area on why all this
- 43:15Speaker 1: occurred whatever. For whatever reason, he was kind of being protected,
- 43:18Speaker 1: but he was. So what we do know is that
- 43:22Speaker 1: Angela served time for her part, and if Ian had
- 43:27Speaker 1: any part, he clearly walked free for it. But did
- 43:31Speaker 1: he actually have a part in this? Well in March
- 43:36Speaker 1: of twenty twenty three.
- 43:37Speaker 2: Oh that's like what it's April?
- 43:40Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, this was wow, ago.
- 43:43Speaker 2: I haven't heard a thing about this yeah.
- 43:46Speaker 1: A full five years after Angela pled guilty to her charges,
- 43:49Speaker 1: Ian was finally taken to court for his apparent part
- 43:53Speaker 1: in what happened to Michelle. Many details would be discovered.
- 43:57Speaker 1: He had, for example, the access to the biblical emails
- 44:03Speaker 1: that Michelle had originally sent, emails that you know, falsified
- 44:08Speaker 1: replicas could be made from.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Huh.
- 44:12Speaker 1: So sure you can say that Angela did all this. Yeah,
- 44:17Speaker 1: but if she's the one sending these biblical emails to herself,
- 44:20Speaker 1: where did she get the reference from?
- 44:22Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 44:23Speaker 1: Well, Ian is the only one who had those references. Wow,
- 44:27Speaker 1: so he would have had to provide them. There's also
- 44:31Speaker 1: text evidence from Ian's phone to a Craiglist user telling
- 44:36Speaker 1: them to come to the condo for the quote rape
- 44:38Speaker 1: fantasy ad that was being placed online.
- 44:41Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 44:43Speaker 1: He used Angela like a puppet to get back to
- 44:46Speaker 1: his back at his ex fiance and proceed proceeded to
- 44:50Speaker 1: throw her under the bus when it looked like evidence
- 44:53Speaker 1: of Michelle's innocence was about to surface.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Huh. Okay, shit, I was right. That was a roller
- 45:00Speaker 2: coaster for me. But yeah, we're back here. I'm back
- 45:03Speaker 2: on the top.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Let me guess you knew it.
- 45:04Speaker 2: All, Alonge, Yeah, there's no doubt.
- 45:07Speaker 1: Yeah you didn't doubt. You didn't doubt it for a second.
- 45:11Speaker 1: Well Ian was found guilty of the charges of conspiracy
- 45:14Speaker 1: to commit cyberstalking, wow, cyberstalking, pure jury, and obstruction of
- 45:20Speaker 1: a federal matter, and could face up to twenty years
- 45:24Speaker 1: in prison.
- 45:25Speaker 2: Good holy shit.
- 45:26Speaker 1: His trial for sentencing will be scheduled for later this year,
- 45:31Speaker 1: twenty twenty three.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Okay, So so it was all him. Angela was just
- 45:35Speaker 2: so he was literally just playing her like a puppet,
- 45:38Speaker 2: like she was pretty much probably going through the same
- 45:41Speaker 2: thing that Michelle had been going through.
- 45:43Speaker 1: I don't know, per se if she was going through
- 45:45Speaker 1: the same thing. I mean, the manipulation for sure. I
- 45:51Speaker 1: don't know if the abuse side of it, that's hard
- 45:56Speaker 1: to say for sure. But Angela was the perfect person
- 46:01Speaker 1: for it because she is already a pathological liar. She's
- 46:04Speaker 1: already Okay, that is true, Yes, that is all true.
- 46:08Speaker 2: Okay.
- 46:09Speaker 1: She is the perfect person to pin this on if
- 46:11Speaker 1: he needs to, because hey, she's been lying this whole
- 46:15Speaker 1: time to me. She's doing all this stuff. It's her
- 46:17Speaker 1: character to lie. She's clearly jealous of my ex she's
- 46:21Speaker 1: doing all this, I had no part. That's basically what
- 46:24Speaker 1: he's doing.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Wow.
- 46:25Speaker 1: So what Angela went through I cannot speak of because
- 46:29Speaker 1: I couldn't find anything on how she was treated by Ian.
- 46:32Speaker 1: I'm assuming not very good.
- 46:34Speaker 2: But he very much so intentionally chose her.
- 46:38Speaker 1: I'm not sure if it was intentional or just coincidence
- 46:41Speaker 1: that he happened to find someone.
- 46:43Speaker 2: That her and was like, dang, this will ork for
- 46:45Speaker 2: me exactly. Huh.
- 46:47Speaker 1: He probably was just out on the prowl to find
- 46:49Speaker 1: someone and he was like, Hey, I could fucking do
- 46:52Speaker 1: this with this person.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Yeah, holy heck.
- 46:56Speaker 1: So yeah, we're waiting for his trial. We'll be watching
- 46:59Speaker 1: to see just how long his sentence is. He could
- 47:01Speaker 1: get up to twenty years, but I mean chances are
- 47:04Speaker 1: it will be a lot more than an eighty eight
- 47:07Speaker 1: days or five years.
- 47:08Speaker 2: Had you come across this case online then or something? Uh?
- 47:12Speaker 1: Yeah, Actually I had come across it a few months ago,
- 47:16Speaker 1: and I was I was kind of intrigued by it.
- 47:18Speaker 1: And then when I started researching it, I had started
- 47:22Speaker 1: researching like a week after his trial had occurred.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Wow.
- 47:26Speaker 1: And so as soon as like as soon as I
- 47:27Speaker 1: started typing into Google to research and everything. Yeah, boom,
- 47:31Speaker 1: all these recent articles from like five days ago popped
- 47:34Speaker 1: up on his on his trial, and I was like,
- 47:36Speaker 1: holy shit.
- 47:37Speaker 2: Yeah, because I'm curious, then if people who are listening
- 47:41Speaker 2: have heard of this, then if it's been like in
- 47:43Speaker 2: the news and stuff recently, right, because I have not
- 47:46Speaker 2: heard of anything of this.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Yeah, Well if you google it right now, you'll just
- 47:49Speaker 1: get a shit ton of articles from like a month ago.
- 47:51Speaker 2: Wow.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Yeah, So now you can dive deeper into some of
- 47:55Speaker 1: the semantics of the things that did occur on this.
- 47:57Speaker 2: Oh you always can, Yeah, you always can that.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Yeah, there was, especially in a lot of the lies
- 48:03Speaker 1: and stuff, like Angela's history for example, some of the
- 48:07Speaker 1: details on how it played out on Michelle's end, like
- 48:10Speaker 1: when she was in prison, for example, one of one
- 48:13Speaker 1: of the details that she was like looked at as
- 48:15Speaker 1: like a very low life in prison because she was
- 48:18Speaker 1: attempting to kill a pregnant woman.
- 48:22Speaker 2: Oh that's scary.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Yeah, so everyone in jail hated her, and she also
- 48:27Speaker 1: had another cellmate who was an elderly woman who was
- 48:30Speaker 1: also like hated from she was in there from like
- 48:32Speaker 1: kidnapping or something. Okay, but reportedly after she got out
- 48:36Speaker 1: of jail. She went back and helped this other elderly
- 48:39Speaker 1: woman get out of jail and like rehabilitate her too,
- 48:41Speaker 1: because she had this new like insight on what it's
- 48:44Speaker 1: like to be in prison. And okay, she only had
- 48:47Speaker 1: a chance because of like who she is and privilege
- 48:49Speaker 1: and stuff. Yeah, so yeah, there's a whole other side
- 48:52Speaker 1: of the story you can dive into and you can
- 48:54Speaker 1: go for a long ways. But yeah, it's a wild one.
- 48:57Speaker 2: I was worried there was going to be a different
- 48:59Speaker 2: outcome and that Michelle died or something. So nope, Thankfully, thankfully,
- 49:04Speaker 2: there are no deaths.
- 49:05Speaker 1: In this one. Y Ian's a piece of shit. Angela,
- 49:09Speaker 1: though she is also a victim in this, she's also
- 49:12Speaker 1: playing a very heavy part. Not cool. Let's just say that.
- 49:16Speaker 2: Yeah, not cool, Angela.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Not cool, Angela, not cool.
- 49:20Speaker 2: Are you impressed that I had caught onto that at
- 49:23Speaker 2: that point or you're like, no, it's obvious.
- 49:26Speaker 1: I did plant a few seeds, very very obvious seeds.
- 49:30Speaker 1: One of the things I was actually hoping you would
- 49:32Speaker 1: catch on is the use of Craigslist. You have no
- 49:37Speaker 1: idea what I'm talking about.
- 49:39Speaker 2: The cell I don't today, So I'm trying to.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Figure it out when Ian convinced Michelle to have this
- 49:47Speaker 1: cuckhold situation and screw some stranger from Craigslist. Okay, and
- 49:53Speaker 1: now all of a sudden, there yeah, these predators for
- 49:57Speaker 1: hire also on Craigslist again. Yeah, that was a red
- 50:02Speaker 1: flag for me right away when I was researching us.
- 50:04Speaker 1: It's like, holy shit, Craigslist, Craigslist boom. I guarantee you not.
- 50:07Speaker 1: Some like Christian woman is sitting there on Craigslist very often. Yeah,
- 50:12Speaker 1: especially if her experience is a negative one, a negative
- 50:15Speaker 1: connotation for being coerced in this situation.
- 50:19Speaker 2: She probably wouldn't use it. It might be using marketplace,
- 50:22Speaker 2: you know, it should change it up.
- 50:25Speaker 1: Just sitting there on Facebook marketplace looking for a sexual
- 50:29Speaker 1: predator today.
- 50:29Speaker 2: Please, Oh my gosh, that's so bad.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Wow, but yeah, it's it's interesting.
- 50:36Speaker 2: What a freaking shit show of a case.
- 50:39Speaker 1: Wow, you haven't heard of this one?
- 50:40Speaker 2: Heh, No, I definitely have not.
- 50:43Speaker 1: You enjoyed the story on this one though, by the.
- 50:45Speaker 2: Sounds of it, it was a little It was definitely
- 50:47Speaker 2: like interesting. I don't even know how to describe.
- 50:51Speaker 1: It fair enough. I was really hoping you weren't gonna
- 50:55Speaker 1: waiver from your your theory of I and though, but
- 50:57Speaker 1: you really did.
- 50:58Speaker 2: I you know what, I didn't. I was like all
- 51:01Speaker 2: against you in the whole time.
- 51:02Speaker 1: Of course, of course.
- 51:04Speaker 2: I know I did waiver, but I was just like, oh, really,
- 51:07Speaker 2: I wasn't expecting the Angela this this what is it
- 51:11Speaker 2: called the turn of events there? But yeah, yeah, you
