- 2:27We start off with a major news story. Whered came down yesterday that
- 2:30President Joe Biden would be withdrawing from the race for president. So what happens
- 2:35next and where's Joe Manchin and all this. So we're going to talk to
- 2:38the state Democratic Party chair and delicate Mike Pushkin moment charily pus. A little
- 2:43bit later on, Matt Harrige, who is the state Republican Party chair,
- 2:46is going to join us to weigh in on the subject. Barbersville Mayor Chris
- 2:50Tatum not talking about politics. He's going to be on the show a little
- 2:53bit later on as is Jay Silverman, Jay employed by the Dirty Birds,
- 2:57but after hours coming quite the internet sensation with his have fun West Virginia endeavors
- 3:02and we're going to talk some hot dogs. So we got a lot to
- 3:05get to. Let me go right to State Democratic Party and the State Democratic
- 3:08Party Chair and Dell get Mike push Kid, Michael, good morning, welcome
- 3:12to the show. Good morning. Well, that sounds like a good show
- 3:14that Tony the Taylor's putting on this seeking Gary Hoey. That's that's quite a
- 3:16big act. I've been a big fan of Gary Hoey for a long long
- 3:21time. He's gonna be fun. It's gonna be a great show, all
- 3:23right. So yesterday's announcement President Joe Biden withdrawing from the race couldn't have come
- 3:29as a big surprise to a lot of people. The pressure had been mounting
- 3:32for some time. We talked a little bit about it when you were on
- 3:35the show last week. Overall your thoughts, well, as I said before,
- 3:38you know, first of all, it was not a definitely it was
- 3:42a sad day, you know for the President of the United States, a
- 3:46president who's going to go down, in my opinion, in the opinion of
- 3:50many as one of the most monumental, one of the most consequential presidents of
- 3:54our time for what he has gotten done. It was a sad day to
- 3:58hear him announce that he was and he go on with this campaign after this
- 4:01is the president that immediately got in there and helped us get out of the
- 4:06pandemic by passing the American Rescue Plan. That was a bill that sent the
- 4:11money straight down to the cities and to the counties, and it bypassed state
- 4:15governments and governors who might want to hold up the money and have a baby
- 4:18dog sweep takes hypothetic not to mention any names or anything like that. Or
- 4:24you know the Infrastructure Bill, which became the Infrastructure Act because it got it
- 4:28passed, something that Donald Trump could never do. He got an infrastructure bill
- 4:30passed, or the Inflation Reduction Act, which has led to some man of
- 4:35the announcements and all the good news that we've had here in West Virginia,
- 4:39whether it's Form Energy or New Corps or Green Moat, all the announcements we've
- 4:43had a lot of that was due in large part to the good work of
- 4:46President Biden. So for a president like that to come out and say that
- 4:50he's he doesn't feel like he's the best one passed the torch. I think
- 4:57that it was his decision, and I've said all along and I support his
- 5:00I support his decision. I think ultimately it is his decision. I think
- 5:04what we need to talk about too, is what it took to get to
- 5:08that decision to put the country first. I believe he's doing so because he
- 5:12believes it's what's in best interest of the country, is to pass the torch
- 5:15on to his vice president, likely nominee who will defeat Donald Trump. Is
- 5:21that who you are behind this comment? I'm going to presume yes. When
- 5:26we voted for President Biden, and the majority of Americans did, he won
- 5:30a free and fair election. In twenty twenty, we also voted for a
- 5:34vice president, vice President Kamala Harris, and one of the roles of the
- 5:39vice president is to fill the role of the president, to be as pre
- 5:44president if God forbid, something should happen to the president. So, to
- 5:46me, without hesitation, yeah, I support the nomination. What would you
- 5:51say to those Mike who say that he if he isn't going to fulfill his
- 5:58duties, he's not going to run for president, as we thought he was
- 6:01going to be dropped out. What would you say to those that say that
- 6:03maybe he also should not continue as president now, because I think if you
- 6:08look at the job he is doing, that he is able, he's able
- 6:11to do the job of president. He is doing. He is doing the
- 6:14job every day, and I think he's doing a good job. I mean,
- 6:17when he gave that foreign policy press conference that people don't talk about that
- 6:21when he spoke at NATO, he went on for an hour giving in detailed
- 6:26answers on foreign policy, and you would never be able to see somebody like
- 6:30former President Trump do that. He doesn't think that long and hard about form.
- 6:34The only thing he said is going to hand Ukraine back over to over
- 6:38to Russia within the first week. And that's dangerous and that's what's at stake
- 6:42here, and I think that's why he saw President Biden do something that I
- 6:46feel is so selfless, to put the country first, and something it's rarely
- 6:49seen, if ever seen, in politics. Somebody put personal ambition aside for
- 6:58the sake of the country and for the sake what he fels is best for
- 7:00the country. You don't see that too often. George Washington did that.
- 7:03You know, we could have very well gone back to a monarchy after George
- 7:08Washington and his patriots won the Revolutionary War, and he chose no, he's
- 7:13a president. He's going to step aside, and he gave up power to
- 7:16make way for John Adams. And I see that too often for somebody to
- 7:20give up. You know, you don't see it on the other side,
- 7:23when you had former President Trump who lost an election and wouldn't leave the White
- 7:27House, calling his supporters to have an insurrection at the Capitol to try to
- 7:31stop the peaceful transfer of power. That's what you saw. On the other
- 7:35side. You saw the exact opposite of that in the character of President Joe
- 7:39Biden yesterday when he put the good of the country first in stepped aside.
- 7:43You talked, I know you talked to Democrats because you were at the state
- 7:46Party chair, Mike, and you talk to Democrats around the country. Are
- 7:47you getting a feeling that everybody's on board of Kamala Harris as far as the
- 7:50Democrats GOP. We've not heard of anybody else that's that's mounting any opposition.
- 7:57I think because she is she was the elect vice president and that's the role
- 8:01of the vice president to step in if God forbid something should happen to the
- 8:05press. Let me ask about Joe Manchin. Now. Yesterday there were rumblings
- 8:07coming out that Joe Mansion could possibly become a Democrat again and would enter the
- 8:13ring for president that was being baned about yesterday. Two hours ago. He
- 8:18goes on CBS this morning says he's not going to run, but he's not
- 8:22totally on board with Kamala Harris either. He thinks that there needs to be
- 8:26a voice for more moderate people in America. So he's out now. But
- 8:30now he's on with Hoppy. He's the first guest, and you know how
- 8:31Joe is. He's on with Hoppy at ten o six. He may change
- 8:35his mind between now and ten o six. Utmost respect for our senior senator,
- 8:39Senator Mansion, and I consider him a friend and I definitely believe he
- 8:43has a voice that needs to be heard in all of this. Do you
- 8:46think the party needs? And what he said not too long ago, he
- 8:50expressed some of the same thing that I do, that he feels that there
- 8:54is an existential threat in re electing somebody like Donald Trump to the presidency.
- 8:58And I feel he believes that, and I think when it comes down to
- 9:01it, he's going to do what he can to help what I would call
- 9:05it the Democracy ticket, but a island showing five any life broight to apart
- 9:09by Hustan's Pizza this month at your favorite Hustan's already any regularly priced large eighteen
- 9:13inch pizza and get a two letter PEPs. He had no additional charge.
- 9:18Do you think the Democratic Party at a national level needs more moderate moderation so
- 9:22to speak? Mike, I think we're going to be the party like we
- 9:24have always been the party for everybody else, and we should be the same
- 9:28party. And I think if you watched did you watch the Republican National with
- 9:33professional wrestlers and Kid Rock and all that, and then the president we kept
- 9:37hearing is going to be a softer and generler tone with the with the former
- 9:41president, but uh and Trump. He stayed on script for a little while,
- 9:46and then he became very undisciplined. He went off script and it started
- 9:50hurling insults at I think he's still talking. I mean that speech went on
- 9:56forever. I don't know. I would like to talk to some of our
- 9:58you know, the Republican delegation from West Virginia. See if they were actually
- 10:01able to sit through that entire, insane rambling list of grievances. It seemed
- 10:09more like, you know what, mister Costanza at Festivus Living giving his list
- 10:15of grievances, Pushkin off the top rope with the as Seinfeld reference, using
- 10:20what's going to happen at the convention? Mike, in your opinion, what's
- 10:22going to happen to Democrats? We're going to nominate the next president of the
- 10:26United States. We have conventions, are nominating conventions. Now, you know,
- 10:30in modern history, that's not you know, that's not how it's not
- 10:35how it's been Usually we go in knowing for sure who the nominee is going
- 10:37to be. And we haven't seen anything like this really ever, because even
- 10:41when when LBJ decided not run, it was still early in the primary process.
- 10:46We've not seen anything like this. But we're going to go in and
- 10:50we are going to carry out the democratic process of nominating the next president of
- 10:54the United States, and Democrats are going to come out of that convention stronger
- 10:58and more united than ever because we know what is at stake. And I
- 11:03saw several statements that came out from you. When I say you, I
- 11:07mean the State Democratic Party yesterday, and you got more statements coming up.
- 11:13You've always got statements. Man, You'll think what you know. Once I
- 11:16leave here, I'm going to make some phone calls to our delegates to Chicago
- 11:20and have discussions. We're Democrats with a small D and ultimately it's up to
- 11:24the you know, our delegates who are elected at our convention. By the
- 11:28way, the West Virginia Republicans didn't have a state convention. They selected their
- 11:31delegates to Milwaukee at an executive committee meeting. We actually had county conventions where
- 11:37we elected delegates to the state convention, and at the state convention we elected
- 11:43our delegates to the national convention. So ultimately it's up to those delegates and
- 11:46not to me. It's not up to me. I'm an automatic delegate,
- 11:50which means I don't get a vote on the first ballot. But I'm going
- 11:52to call our delegates and have a discussion and see where everybody is and then
- 11:56we will be uh yeah that. So look for more statements, date more
- 12:01statements. State Democratic Party Chair and Delegate Mike Pushkin. I appreciate you being
- 12:05here man, thanks a lot, Thanks so much for having me on.

- 15:46to him right now. State Republican Party Chair Matt Harriage. Good morning,
- 15:48sir, Good morning Dave. How are you doing. I'm doing fine,
- 15:52Thank you. Welcome to the show, and thanks thanks for being here on
- 15:54what's been an eventful forty eight hours twenty four hours or so. Man,
- 16:00Oh my goodness. Yeah, I've just got back this weekend after actually two
- 16:03weeks. We were in Milwaukee with the RNC the week prior prepping for convention,
- 16:08and then of course took a delegation last week to convention and and throw
- 16:14in all all the news that's happened over the past seven or eight days and
- 16:17a national international flight issues, I mean, wow, I mean what we
- 16:22have experienced is truly history that this last week. Indeed, your take overall,
- 16:30sir, on the Joe Biden announcement from yesterday, Well, you know,
- 16:33I think we all knew this was coming, right. We've all watched
- 16:38anyone I think with common sense has watched the decline, the caulgnant of decline
- 16:42of Joe Biden over the past year years, actually, you know, and
- 16:47it's it's been hard to watch. I mean, even someone who doesn't agree
- 16:49with the policies of Joe Biden or the Democrat Party watching him be pushed out
- 16:56there and embarrassed. It's it was sad. And we've all had probably family
- 17:02members or or friends or relatives that have gone through this process, and it's
- 17:07a very difficult thing. And you know, watching him go through it has
- 17:10been it has been has been hard. And it's not just that, but
- 17:14it's, uh, it's scary. You know that this is the demand that's
- 17:18in charge of the most powerful country in the world. So we knew this
- 17:21was coming. Uh, it was a question of when. But it now
- 17:25has manifested and and I did get a chance just to listen to the beginning
- 17:30of your conversation there with mister Pushkin. But but I'll tell you, I
- 17:33don't think the Democrat Party is is necessarily rallying around Kamala Harris at this point.
- 17:37I mean, well, you've got Shumor, you've got Jeffery's Pelosi,
- 17:41the bie or the Obamas, all of them not not endorsing her. Yet
- 17:48why do you think that Joe Biden anounced but took so long? In your
- 17:51opinion? You know, I go back to kind of my framework of how
- 17:56the Democrat Party works. They're they're always like, hey, don't look at
- 18:00what's right in front of your face, look over here, and they tend
- 18:03to be very I think myopic, are shortsighted in their strategy, They're faced
- 18:08with a situation, and so they say, Okay, how do we divert
- 18:12from that? How do we gaslight to something else? And I think they
- 18:15just kept thinking, if we could just get him through the election, he's
- 18:21our best chance. But when the reality face them here that he is not
- 18:26going to beat Donald Trump, they've decided, Okay, it's time to throw
- 18:33him overboard and go forward with somebody else. Talking to Matt Herds again,
- 18:37the State Republican Party chair of a Dave Allen show in five that You Live
- 18:40is brought to you part by Morgan to Moregon, America's largest jury law firm.
- 18:44Does the strategy of the National Republicans change if now the opponent is going
- 18:48to be Vice President Harriser? You know, I truly believe it doesn't.
- 18:53We came out of this convention so strong, so unified, energized, and
- 19:02Donald Trump has so much inertia right now. We're not going to let the
- 19:07get our foot off the gas pedal in any way. But I really believe
- 19:11it does not matter this election who they put up. We feel very secure
- 19:18and strong. Doesn't mean again that we're not going to push very hard to
- 19:22make our case to the American people. But honestly, I do not think
- 19:26it matters who they put up. They do not have the caliber of person
- 19:32or even a bench that can compete with the Republican Party. Right now,
- 19:36I will they're in dis arreny. I will say this already interruight, but
- 19:38I will say this. I think Copy you know, had done a commentary
- 19:41on this about a week or so ago, and I know we talked about
- 19:44it on his show. Regardless of what you think, and if you just
- 19:47step back and look at it from an objective point of view, when you
- 19:51look back at it, I think that the Republicans have had a good couple
- 19:55of weeks. Now. I understand you can't possibly say that. You know,
- 19:57you're the guy at the top, being the victim of an assassination attempt.
- 20:02You probably obviously can't say that that's a good thing. But it did
- 20:06serve to rally the troops you had. Overall, I think a lot of
- 20:11good things that came out of the rn C. I'm speaking objectively now,
- 20:15it's been a good couple of weeks. I know that sounds weird to say
- 20:18that, but you understand where I'm going with that, right absolutely, Dave,
- 20:22Yeah, you're exactly right. I mean, you watched even how this
- 20:26tragic event of this assassination attempt. You look at even how the Democrat Democratic
- 20:33Party responded to that. They almost seem jealous, which is sad to say.
- 20:37It's like, oh wait, that's going to help him in some way,
- 20:41right. It's just amazing to me though. The past couple of weeks
- 20:47have brought billionaires over to the party, which is kind of cool. Lon
- 20:52Musk came out, so he's going to give forty five billion a month.
- 20:55Actman has come out. We are seeing all people from all walks of life
- 20:59who maybe we're on the fence, saying Okay, this is enough, We're
- 21:03going to vote for Donald Trump and the Republican Party. And that's really encouraging.
- 21:08Talk about Joe Manchin, you know, he started putting well, somebody
- 21:12started putting up feelers, and you know how Joe is, and I've said
- 21:15this to the Senator on the show in the past, we've kind of joked
- 21:18about it. He loves the spotlight. He's not going to back away from
- 21:22that. And yesterday started, you know, after the Biden announcement, there
- 21:25were rumblings that maybe he was considering getting into the race himself, maybe switching
- 21:30back to Democrat. But he went on the CBS Morning Show this morning and
- 21:33said he is not running for president now. As I said earlier, Matt,
- 21:37he's on with Hoppy at ten oh six. He may change between now
- 21:41and then. I, like everybody else in West Virginia, will be listening
- 21:44to the Joe Manchon interview at ten oh six this morning. Your comments on
- 21:47Senator Mansion and what he's going to do if anything, Yeah, well,
- 21:49you know, I don't believe he will. He will put his name in
- 21:52the hat. I mean, certainly it would take a big lift to now
- 21:56switch parties again. I would assume back to the Democrat Party. I think,
- 22:00you know, we've been dealing with these rumors around Senator Mansion over the
- 22:03past few months, not only nationally but certainly here even in the state.
- 22:08But I do not see that happening. I think that he's going to continue
- 22:15down the route he's chosen. But no, I will be very interested to
- 22:21hear, as you what he does have to say. But it just seems

- 24:10I was talking to somebody this morning who is not in the media but follows
- 24:14media media things closely, a good friend of mine, and he was saying
- 24:18that this could be a very very smart move on behalf of the Democrats,
- 24:25because if Kamala Harris loses, and right now, if I'm handicapping the race,
- 24:30which keep in mind, I've been wrong in the last two presidential races.
- 24:33If I'm handicapping the race right now, Donald Trump still wins. In

- 24:44in mind I was wrong in the last two. But I will say this,
- 24:48if Harris loses, then according to this gentleman I was talking to,

- 32:10a Texture. Tex says the reason the party chairman sounds like that is because
- 32:14the GOP chair is nice of a Democrat chair is bitter and angry. They're
- 32:19both very genuine people, says a Texture. Barbersville Mayor Chris Tatum joins us
- 32:24right now, Mayor, good morning, how are you. I'm doing fine,
- 32:29and I am not, not, sir, going to ask you away
- 32:31in on national politics and to be honest with you, and to be honest
- 32:35with you. I've been friends for you, for with enough for with you
- 32:37for a number of years, and I actually have no idea what your stance
- 32:42on national politics is and isn't that sometimes where we should be it is?
- 32:45And you know what, at my level, potholes and quality of life are
- 32:50not Democrat Republican issueses. How does the village of Barbersville how do they do?
- 32:55Do they have Republican Democrat? Do they have no party? What do
- 32:59they have? We have a single election? Uh? And it's it is
- 33:02partisan. I mean they put our parties on the ballot. But it's a
- 33:07single election process. So in all honesty, it doesn't matter. You're you're
- 33:10voting in a in a general election once every four years. So it's you
- 33:15know, it's not even of consequence here. We have both parties on our
- 33:20that are that serve on our council. Uh So you know, like I
- 33:25said, I don't think it's I don't think it's more. It's more about
- 33:29who who you want to serve and the people you line up with and the
- 33:31people that have passion for Barbersia. And even if they did not and we're
- 33:36not elected, I think all those people who have run drops here have the
- 33:39same thing in mind, which is just taking care of the town that they
- 33:43grew up in. I mean, most of our folks are legacy families here
- 33:46that are that are on counsel and part of the administration. So you know,
- 33:50we have a we have a great relationship with mongst our citizens. And
- 33:54of course, you know, everyone doesn't agree on everything, but for the
- 33:58most part, you know, it's it's just let's do things for the people
- 34:01that we serve and let's toss those ideas out there and see what's six.
- 34:07And again, like I said, potholes and parks and things like that are
- 34:10not democratic publican issues anyway, I agree, But I bring that up because
- 34:16when I have candidates on even those that are running for nonpartisan elections as I
- 34:21have, you know, from time to time, people will call up or
- 34:24they'll text and they'll say what's their party, And I'm like, you know,
- 34:28you know, they're running for surveyor right, I mean, does it
- 34:30really matter? But people want to know these things. That's kind of where
- 34:34we are right now, you know. I mean, it's just kind of
- 34:36unfortunately, it's kind of been as you said, cities and towns. It's
- 34:38about potholes, it's about parks, it's about pools and everything else that starts
- 34:42with peas, I guess. So let's talk about the village of Barbersville.
- 34:46It's it's been a very busy summer there. Of course, you've been sharing
- 34:52a lot of the activities with the folks at Shawnee here in Kanawa County,
- 34:55but overall it's been a pretty busy time in Barbersville. That has been in
- 35:00this This US youth soccer tournament that just moved downtown between here and Shawnee is
- 35:06a huge economic impact for the Valley. I mean here from Charleston to barber
- 35:12Zille, and you have people staying in hotels from above Charleston all the way
- 35:15to Grayson, Kentucky. We have a great relationship with Shawnee and the and
- 35:20the commission in Kanawa County. Ben's Lango and I talk pretty regularly. Ben's
- 35:27a great guy, you know, he just he just sees the benefit of
- 35:30Shawnee. And you know, first I'll say this, I was a little
- 35:34nervous about Shawnee, you know, quote unquote taking part of part of that
- 35:38tournament. But it's turned into such a great relationship. Logistically because in other
- 35:44cities where this tournament that's taking place, some of those folks are driving two
- 35:47hours or more to their game site. You know, you add Shawnee into
- 35:53the mix in Barbersville and you are lessening their travel times and logistically, you
- 36:00know, they're they're staying in those areas anyway. So why not bring another
- 36:06ency into the mix and make it more appealing for those visitors here and when
- 36:12they don't have to drive and their experience is better, guess what they want
- 36:15to come back. And that's the objecy exercise. It's getting all those athletes
- 36:19and their families back and then gets that the same way that I do.
- 36:22And it's turned into a fantastic relationship. And one of the things I like
- 36:25about it is is, you know, again, if you're talking about teams
- 36:29that are playing at Shawnee and they're also playing in Barbersville, and uh,
- 36:32you know, those people are going to have a lot of downtime and they're
- 36:36gonna eat in Tays Valley or they're going to eat in the Charlestonary. Some
- 36:38are going to go to Barbersville, And so you kind of got again.
- 36:42That's one of the reasons why I am a big proponent of this whole Advantage
- 36:45Valley thing because and all I know, all the mayors are on board that
- 36:49I've talked to, they have all said, you know, whether it's Saint
- 36:51Albans, whether it's Niger or whatever, even on down to Barbersville and Huntington.
- 36:54When we talk about sports, travel and things of that nature or festivals
- 36:59or whatever, it is, what is good for Barbersville is good for Saint
- 37:00Albans and what is good for Nitro is good for Winfield. And having all
- 37:05of these cities kind of working together, everybody can kind of kind of reap
- 37:08in the benefits mayor the rising tide lifts off ships man and and the cool
- 37:13thing is that Dave Case Bold and Nitro gets it. God James in Saint
- 37:16Amans gets it, Randy Bird and Winfield gets it, Scott Edwards and Hurt
- 37:22and Hurricane gets it, and on and on. I'm just saying that these
- 37:24these folks can plan things around those athletes and their families too. I mean,
- 37:29Huntington has the concert series on Thursday, when those when those welcome packets
- 37:34go out and and and those things are given out at check in for the
- 37:37for the tournament itself. There's something in those in in the in that information
- 37:43about what's going on in and almost every one of those towns. Uh,
- 37:46and we they're they're rolling out red carpet to get them in those areas.
- 37:50And you're right. I mean they're gonna they're gonna come shopping to Barbersville,
- 37:53They're gonna they're gonna come up to They're gonna be in Charleston. Then they
- 37:57might want to go see a live on the Levy Show. I mean,
- 37:59it's it's opportunity for everybody. And then they all get that and they all
- 38:02plan things for those athletes and our family and it's just turned into such a
- 38:07huge event for everyone, not just Charleston, that Shawnee and Barbersville at our
- 38:12sports complex, but everyone else too. And they get that. But Dave

- 38:31mayor what else is new? What's going on in Barbarusa? What do
- 38:35you got new for us? Well, and most recently the council, we've
- 38:39we've closed down one of our alleys for outdoor dining in the downtown area,
- 38:45so Bruno's will be opening. We're in the former Main Street on Central restaurant
- 38:50space here in the short term. Kerber Beer the Tacker Room has opened in
- 38:55Barbersville just down that alley, so it's going to be a nice outdoor space
- 39:00for folks to be able to have food, drink and be outside their planning
- 39:04some entertainment options for that space as well, so you've got the option of
- 39:07Bruno's eighteen sixty one public house cover beer company. You can slide over to
- 39:13Orbits Record Shopper. Downtown is really developed now with a lot of fantastic local
- 39:19business owners. Village Caregiving has are erecting their corporate offices in one of the
- 39:27largest building projects in downtown. In the last probably I'm going to say thirty
- 39:30years, they'll have thirty to forty office spaces in their nationwide headquarters will be
- 39:36located right and the downtown barber Zilt. Those guys are our natives to Warbzil.
- 39:40They love living here and they want to stay here. So they're the
- 39:45largest and faster. They're the fastest growing home health organization in the country.
- 39:50But when when I took office, just shortly after they got you know,
- 39:52they decide they're going to move into downtown Barberzil. They were in ten counties
- 39:55in the Tri City area. They are now in thirty eight states. It's
- 40:00an incredible, incredible story for the partners at Village Caregiving. But not only
- 40:06that, there's a few other things going on. We've got the opening of
- 40:09the first Dave and Busters in the state of West Virginia on August the nineteenth.
- 40:14They'll open their doors to the public. As you know, that's a
- 40:17huge entertainment venue and people very excited about that too. Before we let you
- 40:22go, I got to ask what's the status of the target that fell off
- 40:24the mountain. They have no pun intended. They're targeting October one, but
- 40:32their banner on building says opening in early fall of twenty twenty four. But
- 40:37they're looking at trying to get to October. The first is there is there
- 40:43date that they would aspire to be having their doors open, And I think
- 40:47that they're excited about getting back open here. They've done enormous repairs. And
- 40:52I will tell you on that hillside slip the building, the ground might move,
- 40:55but the building it'll take the Holy Ghost to move the building. That's
- 41:00an interesting way to put it all right. He is the mayor of the

- 44:52Good morning, Good morning, Internet sensation only on YouTube. That's it,
- 44:55That's that's about it. Are you an influencer? Jay? I think
- 44:59I am a little bit, especially when it comes to hot dogs. If
- 45:02you go to YouTube have fun WV you can find the whole hot dog tour
- 45:06there, so you know, if you've seen a few videos, you might
- 45:08know something. So you and I have been friends Jay for a number of
- 45:12years, but you're a California guy. Yep. Why this interest in West
- 45:15Virginia hot dogs or does your interest in hot dogs go beyond? Oh,
- 45:19it goes beyond. I just it's my personal preference while working in baseball.
- 45:23But in baseball for eighteen for the Dirty Bird, Yes, for eighteen seasons.
- 45:28And I also worked for the Sacramento Rivercats, so northern California. So
- 45:32you know, whenever you need a break, and the only good food that's
- 45:36remaining in the ballpark after certain hours are the leftover hot dogs. So sometimes
- 45:40you need a snack and the hot dog is where it is. So many
- 45:44years of baseball has procured me to so many hot dogs. The thing about
- 45:47the hot dogs is is there are so many. It's I kind of like
- 45:50pizza, but I think there's more variety of hot dogs. My wife is
- 45:52from Chicago originally, Okay, it sounds a little weird, but the Chicago
- 45:58dogs, I love them. The pickle spears and it's got to be the
- 46:00certain kind of you know, with the with the relation and the whole the
- 46:04I love Chicago dogs. Yes, I'm actually going to make a trip to
- 46:06Chicago probably next spring, just to personally try a beloved fig. You got
- 46:12to go to Portillo's. That's where you guess? Is that where I gotta
- 46:14go? That's one of the places. I mean, they're all over the
- 46:15city. Hey, if you tell me to go there, I will go
- 46:17there, all right. Be careful where I tell you to go, all
- 46:21right, all right? And I have before. But that's another story.
- 46:22So okay, so hot dogs in West Virginia. Yes, is the Slaw
- 46:27line a real thing? Not really, because because you know, the same
- 46:30thing when it comes to the chili, Like if you go to the Eastern
- 46:32and Northern panhandles, they make chili. Granted there's beans and some most of
- 46:37them, but they also serve Coleslaw on the side for certain things like barbecue
- 46:42joints and things. There's always law somewhere to be found. Yeah, So
- 46:45you just tell them what you want and they go they look at you funny,
- 46:47but they go, oh, okay, I hope my good friend Mike
- 46:50Queen has listened to this. Mike, Yes, But Mike from Clarksburg,
- 46:52and he's all about the that slaw abs. He'll, he'll, he'll take
- 46:57you outside and fight you and say slaw does not belong on hot dog.
- 47:00Well, unfortunately, as as the governor has proclamated it even says here,
- 47:05folks that the proclamation of a West Virginia style hot dog is topped with mustard,
- 47:10onion, chili and cola. It is right there by the Governor,
- 47:15Jim Justice. I'm sure he's had a few. Yeah, maybe maybe maybe
- 47:20baby dogs had a few. All right, So you you put out this
- 47:22list, what it was it a year or so ago about the best hot
- 47:24dogs in West Virginia. Yeah, well, I mean this is more contentient.
- 47:29This is there was more controversy over that than anything I've ever talked about
- 47:32in politics on there. Yeah, yes, we created a civil war.
- 47:35We had over two and a half million people respond within a week about the
- 47:38list basically, so we were out looking for the best West Virginia style hot
- 47:44dog. It's the style hot dog with the coast law. So we went
- 47:45to the every region in West Virginia from the you know, from the eastern
- 47:50panel, northern panandle down south every where you can think of Longlehelia area,
- 47:53I mean everywhere, two hundred and eighty four restaurants. We went to my
- 47:57own pop places only and how long did it take you to do two and
- 48:00a half years? Two and a half years? Yea, it was crazy.
- 48:01And as soon as the list came out, you knew you were gonna
- 48:04get hammered, because what about what about? Right right? Any list that
- 48:07doesn't have X is a lot not a real list, correct, And for
- 48:12me, it seemed like as if that was your personal favorite growing up,
- 48:15the nostalgia behind it, and to me, that's the reason why it's so
- 48:19good to you. But if you travel around and try other people's hot dogs,
- 48:22you may realize, oh, well, maybe mine isn't so. And
- 48:24who ended up winning the whole thing? Who had the best? And Tornado,
- 48:28believe it or not, not too far from here. So a little
- 48:30place called Bogie's Driving Range got a perfect fifteen out of fifteen score. They
- 48:35smoked their hot dog and all beef dog of course, and it's topped with
- 48:38their chili hot dog chili, and they actually reduced it down and put it
- 48:44on the smoker as well, so you get that kind of like new smoke
- 48:47taste basically, and it was amazing. The coastlaw was great. It was
- 48:51chunky was and those folks are going to be the ones that are putting in
- 48:54the place over at Capital Market. Yeah, that's correct. I was having
- 48:57lunch there are a couple of weeks ago and talking to Evan and the folk
- 49:00over at Capitol Market. They've had a couple of little delays here and there,
- 49:01but they're going to put the barbecue place in over here replacing the seafood
- 49:06place over at the Capitol Market. I know, I'm very excited for him.
- 49:07I go there frequently now because of the hot dog. It's so good,
- 49:10all right, So being a Logan guy, okay and Logan, you
- 49:14know, there are two types of hot dogs, and it's kind of like
- 49:16if you go to Philly and everything's either Pats or Geno's Logan, you're either
- 49:21Morrisons or Parkway. I'm a Morrison's guy, although I don't get slaw on
- 49:25them because the chili is so good. In my opinion, the law takes
- 49:29away from it because the chili is so good. You were not as enamored
- 49:31though with Morrison's when you went there right now, really, I mean it's
- 49:35maybe just had an off day, you know what happened. And like you
- 49:38said, Jay, it's so much of this comes down to what what do
- 49:42you think? You know? And and and you know, I've been I've
- 49:45been away from there for ten years, and now the first thing I do
- 49:47when I get in town is I got to go there. I may not
- 49:49have gone there in the previous six months that I lived there, but did
- 49:52you go to Parkway too? I went everywhere? Yeah. Yeah. So
- 49:55sometimes what we realize is, I think Morrison's is one of them, is
- 49:59they have a boiled so they don't really you know, I like a nice,
- 50:01good grilled dog, you know, grill marks, you know what I
- 50:04mean. So sometimes you get a wet dog out of the boil, you
- 50:07know, you stick it on a steamed bun, and now all of a
- 50:09sudden that bun is a little extra wet. So sometimes you get into the
- 50:14part where they put a chili sauce where it's more saucy instead of chunky,
- 50:20and then it adds a little more wet to it. Then they wrap it
- 50:22up in wax paper. It's a cell a phane actually, I think it
- 50:24is. Whatever it is, and it creates more It takes extra Congress sometimes
- 50:29to unwrap them. It's right, it's right, it really does. Some
- 50:32of the places around Charleston that may have made your listen. Some of the
- 50:35best ones is Dem Two Brothers and a Girl. They I just had one
- 50:39other day to help promote obviously the proclamation of the Western Style Hot Dog Month,
- 50:45which is July and basically Dim two Brothers is by far one of the
- 50:50best. Also topping that is Galaxy Lanes up there. Yeah. Yeah,
- 50:55so they're actually in one of the top five. Okay, all right,
- 50:58yeah, very good. Talk about this whole have fun thing though, because
- 51:00it's about more than just food, right, Yes. So for the last
- 51:02five years, every Friday about ten am, there's a new video it comes
- 51:07out about West Virginia. So we've had over about a million views, which
- 51:13is great with all the content we have about sixty four I see weeks.
- 51:16There's a bunch of us that are that go out and try food and stuff.
- 51:20But you can challenge us to go to one of your favorite mom and
- 51:22pop restaurants and try X y Z dish, and we'll go there and try
- 51:25it. I mean, it might take a couple months for us to get
- 51:28down there and do it, but we'll produce the video and stuff like that.
- 51:30And now that the hot Dog Tour is over, we're looking for unique
- 51:35hot dogs. So we're looking for any interesting topics just you know, so
- 51:38like a great one, you know that we could go to there would be
- 51:42super Weeny and they have like a list of great ones and go to yeah,
- 51:45or you can go to Hillbilly hot Dog and they have a array of
- 51:47different ones, which is which is unique. You know, people come from
- 51:51all around for He'll be like, oh yeah, so yeah, so we
- 51:52go everywhere. So how can people get in touch with you? Yes,
