A Peoria police officer’s fatal shooting of Cortez White, 42, in May is now deemed justified after an Illinois State Police investigation found White had shot and killed his ex-girlfriend Ashley Stenson before turning the gun on the officer — leaving the officer with no choice but to fire. The State’s Attorney backed the ruling, citing overwhelming evidence that White posed an immediate, lethal threat to everyone present, including his own weapon and a second loaded firearm in his truck.
