- 0:29Adam: Welcome to episode 130 of I Hate Talking.
- 0:32Steph: Hi everyone.
- 0:34Adam: So in our last episode, we talked about the word optimization and how we supposedly, I guess, optimize our travel and vacations by staying in multiple locations.
- 0:44Adam: I guess it's still perhaps up for debate if that is truly an optimization problem or not, or whether it yields any real benefit.
- 0:55Adam: But I think in our lives it does.
- 0:56Adam: So we never really heard back from anyone.
- 0:58Adam: But if you have an opinion on that, you can always let us know.
- 1:02Adam: Leave a comment, send us a text, send us an email, and maybe share it with some other people, and they can give their opinion as well.
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:10Adam: So optimization, or the root word optimize.
- 1:14Adam: I use it quite frequently, and I think I could generally describe what it means, but I don't know the dictionary definition and would only be able to guess at the etymology.
- 1:25Steph: Yeah, I definitely don't use it in a typical conversation or in life.
- 1:31Steph: But I would think of it as being efficient or the best use of your time.
- 1:39Steph: Like a time management kind of thing.
- 1:42Adam: That's true.
- 1:43Adam: Yeah.
- 1:43Adam: Time management, efficiency.
- 1:45Adam: I think generally speaking, just making a thing as best as it can be would be optimal.
- 1:53Adam: And I think it probably has the root word of like operation or like doing work.
- 1:59Adam: So you are basically improving work to make it better.
- 2:05Steph: Oh, okay.
- 2:06Steph: I didn't think about that, but that makes sense.
- 2:08Adam: Right.
- 2:08Adam: And then the ending with the IZE or optimization would be just making something be that thing.
- 2:18Adam: So you can like galvanize something or you can materialize something.
- 2:23Adam: That would be optimization.
- 2:26Adam: You are doing the thing.
- 2:30Adam: The root ending I Z E.
- 2:32Steph: Yeah?
- 2:33Adam: Yeah.
- 2:34Steph: It's just you said galvanize.
- 2:35Steph: You didn't say galvanization.
- 2:37Adam: Well yeah, I'm just saying galvanize, galvanization.
- 2:41Adam: Yeah.
- 2:41Adam: Same, same root suffix.
- 2:44Steph: Okay.
- 2:45Adam: Well, one just has a T-I-O-N on the end.
- 2:47Steph: Yeah, but you weren't saying the T-I-O-N, and so I was confused at where you were going.
- 2:52Adam: Optimize, galvanize.
- 2:53Adam: What was the other one I said?
- 2:55Adam: I don't know.
- 2:56Adam: But yeah.
- 2:57Adam: Optimization, galvanization, it's all the same thing.
- 3:00Adam: Okay.
- 3:01Adam: Just a different past participle.
- 3:04Adam: I don't know.
- 3:05Adam: I'm just making up words now.
- 3:06Steph: Okay.
- 3:07Steph: Well, why don't we actually look it up then instead of making it up?
- 3:11Adam: So from our favorite American Heritage Dictionary of the English language, 5th edition, there are five definitions for optimize.
- 3:22Adam: And number one is to make as perfect or effective as possible.
- 3:27Adam: Number two, to increase the computing speed and efficiency of a program as by rewriting instructions.
- 3:34Adam: Three, to make the most of.
- 3:37Adam: Number four, to make as useful, effective, or functional as possible.
- 3:42Adam: And number five, to get the most out of to use to the best effect, to exploit fully.
- 3:48Adam: So there you go.
- 3:49Steph: Yeah, so that makes sense.
- 3:52Steph: I still can't say the word to save my life.
- 3:54Steph: It's such a ton twister for me.
- 3:57Steph: It's like the P and the T and then the M and Z.
- 4:01Steph: Like it just my mouth just goes crazy.
- 4:04Steph: Can't say it.
- 4:06Adam: Interesting.
- 4:06Adam: But you do you have problems with like galvanize?
- 4:09Steph: Galvanize.
- 4:10Adam: Yeah, there you go.
- 4:11Steph: Yeah, but that doesn't have like the lower letters and the tall letters.
- 4:17Adam: So it's because when you speak it, you like see it in your mind or something?
- 4:21Steph: Well, I do see it in my mind.
- 4:23Adam: And that messes you up.
- 4:24Steph: Do you not see that?
- 4:24Steph: Do you not see in your mind?
- 4:26Adam: I do not see words when I speak.
- 4:27Adam: No.
- 4:28Steph: Yeah, it's like it goes up and down and up.
- 4:30Steph: It's like the middle line and then down and then up and then the middle and then down.
- 4:37Steph: Like, yeah.
- 4:38Adam: Like you see a wave pattern of inflection?
- 4:41Steph: Yeah.
- 4:41Steph: Is that weird?
- 4:42Adam: That sounds weird.
- 4:43Adam: Uh yes, I don't visualize anything when I'm speaking.
- 4:46Steph: I don't think about it when I'm saying just a word.
- 4:49Steph: Like a sentence.
- 4:51Steph: But if I say an actual word, I always see it that way.
- 4:54Steph: The tall letters and the short letters.
- 4:57Adam: Interesting.
- 4:58Adam: And it's based on the letters, not the inflection.
- 5:02Steph: Yeah, the letters.
- 5:03Steph: Because how else are you gonna know if you draw if it has a little G at the end and has to go below the line?
- 5:09Steph: Because the little hook.
- 5:12Adam: So the shape of the letters influences how you pronounce them?
- 5:16Adam: I mean, ultimately it does, like because that's what your guide is on what the sound is.
- 5:22Steph: No, say it's slow with in your mouth.
- 5:23Steph: Like fill how your tongue goes.
- 5:25Adam: Optimize.
- 5:26Steph: Optimalization.
- 5:28Adam: There's no L in it.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: Optimaliz.
- 5:31Adam: There's no L.
- 5:31Adam: Still no L.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: Optimalization Still no L.
- 5:35Adam: Optimization.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: Optimization.
- 5:38Adam: Still no L.
- 5:40Adam: You put the L in a different spot that time, but still no L.
- 5:43Steph: Okay, I had to look.
- 5:44Steph: Okay, I'm gonna turn my head and file the mic, so hopefully I follows.
- 5:48Steph: Because I'm reading that now.
- 5:50Steph: Optimization.
- 5:54Steph: Optimization.
- 5:56Steph: Optimization.
- 5:57Steph: There you go.
- 5:57Steph: That was it.
- 5:58Steph: See?
- 5:58Steph: Okay, so I just have to look at it.
- 6:01Steph: I want to go up and down.
- 6:02Steph: Like I want to put an L in there.
- 6:05Steph: But it's probably because it's called optimal, right?
- 6:08Adam: Optimal is a word.
- 6:10Adam: Yeah, optimal would be L in it.
- 6:13Adam: The adjective of when you after optimizing something, now it is optimal.
- 6:18Steph: Mm-hmm.
- 6:19Steph: I think that's where I get tripped up.
- 6:20Steph: I'm wanting to put an L in there.
- 6:22Steph: Because you're optimizing it.
- 6:25Steph: This thing is optimized.
- 6:28Steph: Oh, but I said it there.
- 6:29Steph: Oh no, I didn't.
- 6:30Steph: Yeah, that was right.
- 6:31Steph: Close.
- 6:32Steph: Optimize.
- 6:33Adam: Optim Optimization.
- 6:36Steph: Optimization.
- 6:36Adam: Yeah, there's no no L.
- 6:38Adam: Yeah.
- 6:39Adam: I mean, I guess you could optimalize something to make it the status of being optimal.
- 6:45Adam: I don't know.
- 6:46Adam: No, I don't think so.
- 6:47Adam: Maybe, but maybe that's what your head is thinking.
- 6:49Adam: I don't know.
- 6:50Adam: So the etymology is from the root word opt, which comes from the Latin word optimus, meaning best.
- 7:00Adam: So it's actually incorrect.
- 7:01Adam: It's not having anything to do with work or like power or something that I was originally thinking.
- 7:07Adam: It seems like it is just the best thing, opt from optimus.
- 7:14Steph: Okay, so is that the same word as like optimistic?
- 7:20Adam: Yeah, you're thinking that the best is yet to come or the the best is going to be the outcome.
- 7:27Adam: And then uh the suffix eyes, I z e is added to indicate the action of making.
- 7:35Adam: So make the best is literally what optimize means.
- 7:40Steph: Okay.
- 7:41Steph: What other words end in I Z E though?
- 7:44Steph: Or making?
- 7:46Adam: Galvanize.
- 7:48Steph: Okay, but use like actual words, not like building words.
- 7:55Adam: Won't they all be like building-ish words because you are making something?
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: Okay, come up with any others.
- 8:05Adam: Uh let me think.
- 8:07Adam: Yes, I'm sure I can.
- 8:09Adam: I said another one, a third one, now I can't even remember what I said earlier in the episode.
- 8:14Steph: I don't know.
- 8:14Steph: I've had a migraine all week, so I'm not much help.
- 8:17Steph: Sorry about that.
- 8:19Adam: Well, let's search because maybe we're both a bit at a loss of words for this episode.
- 8:26Adam: So let's look up words ending in IZE.
- 8:29Adam: I think there's going to be a lot.
- 8:31Steph: Well, like I think of words like prize and stuff, but I don't think that's right.
- 8:39Adam: So there are 1,433 words that end in IZE.
- 8:44Adam: Now, obviously, some of those are going to be the ones that are just the spelling, prize and size and things like that.
- 8:53Adam: But the Scrabble site here has many different, very long letter words.
- 9:01Adam: So there is three 18 letter words that are eligible for Scrabble.
- 9:06Adam: Well, de-institutionalize, decompartmentalize, reinstitutionalize.
- 9:15Steph: Oh, okay.
- 9:17Steph: Okay.
- 9:18Adam: Miniaturize, miniature, miniature.
- 9:22Steph: Miniaturize.
- 9:23Adam: Miniaturize, yes.
- 9:25Adam: Professionalize, intellectualize.
- 9:30Steph: Okay.
- 9:30Steph: Yeah, there's a lot.
- 9:31Steph: I just wasn't thinking about them.
- 9:33Adam: Yeah.
- 9:34Adam: And that's sensationalize.
- 9:37Steph: To make something.
- 9:38Steph: So yeah, sensationalize.
- 9:41Steph: You're making it grander than it is, right?
- 9:44Steph: Correct.
- 9:45Steph: Okay.
- 9:45Steph: Okay.
- 9:45Steph: Yeah, I'm following up.
- 9:47Steph: Then I I believe that suffix.
- 9:49Adam: Yes.
- 9:50Adam: So there are a ton.
- 9:52Adam: Basically, if it's a word and you can make it become that word, then theoretically you could end the word with I Z-E, and that is a legitimate word, because there's over a thousand of them.
- 10:06Adam: Organize.
- 10:08Steph: Yeah.
- 10:09Adam: There's generalized.
- 10:10Steph: It is pretty silly now because there are so many it makes sense.
- 10:13Steph: But I never thought of it that way, I guess.
- 10:16Adam: Yep.
- 10:17Adam: So but is the only one that you trip up on saying is optimization.
- 10:24Steph: Yeah, I think because it's optimal.
- 10:26Steph: And then I so I want to say optimalization.
- 10:30Steph: Optimalization.
- 10:32Steph: Optimization.
- 10:35Steph: Right?
- 10:35Steph: Optimization.
- 10:37Adam: I guess so.
- 10:39Steph: How do you say it?
- 10:40Adam: Optimization.
- 10:43Steph: Does it go up at all?
- 10:45Steph: Optimization.
- 10:47Adam: The inflection and like the emphasis on the syllables?
- 10:50Steph: Like the A, the uh.
- 10:52Adam: Optimization.
- 10:54Adam: Optimization.
- 10:55Adam: I put a lot of the emphasis on the tuh, I suppose.
- 10:59Adam: Optimization.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Okay, let's move on.
- 11:02Adam: Yes, I'm sure people are tired of us saying the word optimization over and over again.
- 11:06Adam: But maybe it will be optimized for search engine results, and somebody that's searching for podcast optimization will find this episode and find that it has nothing to do with search engine optimization.
- 11:18Steph: Hi guys.
- 11:20Steph: Nor is this podcast right now very optimization.
- 11:25Steph: Optimized.
- 11:26unknown: Correct.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: Okay, let's move on.
- 11:29Adam: So we've defined the word and looked at the root words and a whole variety of other words that end in I Z-E.
- 11:35Adam: So moving on.
- 11:38Adam: So I suppose that if you're listening to this episode on the day that it drops, Halloween's coming up.
- 11:46Steph: Yeah, next week.
- 11:47Adam: Next week.
- 11:48Adam: Or one week away from Halloween.
- 11:49Adam: A week away from Halloween.
- 11:51Adam: So I suppose in our new living situation, now that we have moved different states and now settled in more of a neighborhood environment than our previous more country-related environment.
- 12:06Adam: We now have lots of neighbors and there's a lot of decorations.
- 12:10Steph: Yeah, it's like our own little Halloween town.
- 12:13Steph: We kind of knew that going into it, the old homeowners.
- 12:18Steph: That was one of their selling points.
- 12:20Steph: But I thought they were kind of exaggerating.
- 12:23Steph: That like Halloween is a really big Halloween and Christmas are really big here.
- 12:28Steph: But because we don't, I mean, some neighborhoods have like an HOA thing where you have to sign that you will decorate or something.
- 12:34Steph: We don't have that.
- 12:36Steph: But essentially, everybody decorates.
- 12:40Steph: You just go down our street and it's lit up with all the Halloween lights and decorations, and I'm loving it.
- 12:48Adam: Indeed.
- 12:49Adam: Most of them are tasteful.
- 12:50Adam: There's a few that are sort of scary though.
- 12:53Steph: Yeah.
- 12:54Steph: There's one, we walked the neighborhood quite a bit, and one of my kids.
- 12:58Steph: You know, all our kids are getting older.
- 13:00Steph: Most of them are kind of too old to like hold mommy's hand now.
- 13:03Steph: Just kind of our youngest occasionally.
- 13:06Steph: But one of our older kids like got really quiet and like clung to me and grabbed my arm.
- 13:13Steph: And as we passed by this house, and then he started talking again once we passed it.
- 13:17Steph: And it was just really sweet because he hasn't like held my hand in years.
- 13:25Steph: But he was scared.
- 13:26Steph: It was not enjoyable.
- 13:29Steph: And he's also one that when he was a kid was really scared of that kind of stuff as a toddler.
- 13:33Steph: We couldn't even go to like Costco or Walmart because the decorations on the shelves scared him.
- 13:40Steph: And he grew out of that.
- 13:42Steph: But so we there's no way we could have lived here.
- 13:44Steph: It would have been miserable living in this town when they were toddlers.
- 13:49Steph: But now they're older and they think it's kind of fun usually.
- 13:52Adam: That's true.
- 13:53Adam: And now we've succumbed as well.
- 13:55Adam: We have now purchased and are the proud owner of a blow-up inflatable Halloween decoration.
- 14:02Steph: It's so cute.
- 14:03Steph: It's got like what seven little pumpkins that all have happy, smiley faces, and then a really cute, happy black cat just sitting on top of them.
- 14:13Adam: Yes.
- 14:14Adam: So that is our quote unquote entry into the Halloween decorations of our neighborhood.
- 14:20Adam: So yes, I think it's a cute, tasteful decoration.
- 14:24Adam: And at least we're showing that we're participating in some form or fashion.
- 14:29Adam: We're not whatever you would call humbug.
- 14:32Adam: Yeah, what would it be a bah humbug of Halloween?
- 14:35Steph: I don't know, Christian.
- 14:37Adam: I guess so.
- 14:38Adam: So and then we always have fall decorations.
- 14:40Adam: So you've already did that even before a lot of people did uh Halloween decorations with pumpkins and fall decorations with like the dried corn and things like that.
- 14:50Steph: Yeah, so I love fall decorations.
- 14:52Steph: We got married in the fall intentionally because I love the fall decorations.
- 14:56Steph: I've always decorated big time for that.
- 14:59Steph: So I started that back in September, and people we were kind of the first ones at our street to do it, and I didn't think much of it.
- 15:07Steph: And people kept being like, Oh, I love your Halloween decorations.
- 15:10Steph: And I thought that was kind of a strange comment.
- 15:14Steph: Because they aren't, they're like pumpkins and mums and corn stalks.
- 15:21Steph: So I was like, I don't know, thank you.
- 15:23Steph: You know, like I don't know, whatever.
- 15:25Steph: Moved on.
- 15:26Steph: And then as the got closer to October, and now definitely the end of October, neighbors were working today on their yards, they are going all out for Halloween itself.
- 15:38Steph: So I was like, oh, they thought, okay, well, this is just fall.
- 15:42Steph: So we did.
- 15:43Steph: I think we all kind of felt a little social pressure to do something.
- 15:48Steph: And so you guys had some suggestions, and I kept vetoing all of them because I don't like being scared.
- 15:52Steph: I don't like gross stuff.
- 15:56Steph: I don't know.
- 15:57Steph: And so we found this at Walmart and bought it.
- 16:01Steph: And it is so cute, and I love it.
- 16:04Adam: Indeed.
- 16:05Adam: And then we already have candy purchased from a variety of stores.
- 16:10Adam: I think we've we're stocked up.
- 16:12Adam: Hopefully that will be enough because apparently it's also supposedly very busy for trick-or-treating.
- 16:18Steph: Yeah, that was something we've been warned by neighbors multiple times is how many bags of Costco size bags we go through in our neighborhood.
- 16:27Steph: So I've been stocking up from Costco sized bags of candy.
- 16:31Steph: And the other thing I did, I'll circle back and tell y'all if it works in a week or so, is I bought glow sticks because candy's expensive, but also I feel like a lot of people don't buy candy, or everybody gets candy.
- 16:46Steph: So I thought maybe it'd be fun to do glow sticks.
- 16:48Steph: So I bought I bought 400 glow sticks first, and then I bought another 800.
- 16:54Steph: So we have 1200 glow sticks.
- 16:57Steph: And I thought we could start passing those out first, maybe like a candy and glow stick, and then maybe multiple glow sticks.
- 17:04Steph: If we start running low on candy, we'll get our kids trick-or-treating and then re-gift their candy they get to the kids coming to the door.
- 17:12Adam: That's true, because they probably would have pounds of candy.
- 17:16Adam: Right.
- 17:16Adam: And they have not experienced trick-or-treating.
- 17:20Adam: Like we've gone with other friends to like their neighborhood in the past or things like that.
- 17:25Steph: Very minimal, though.
- 17:27Adam: Very, yeah, very minimal.
- 17:28Adam: It's it's where maybe like every third house or every tenth house, even, is participating in trick-or-treating and handing out candy.
- 17:37Adam: I think it's gonna be much more dense in terms of the number of houses that are going to be handing out candy for Halloween.
- 17:47Steph: Yeah, so much so that your dad is coming to town for it to see us also, but specifically because it's Halloween and it's such a fun big neighborhood event that he's gonna come and I think he's gonna enjoy he likes you know the dress-up stuff.
- 18:02Steph: He thinks that's fun too.
- 18:04Steph: And I think he's gonna really enjoy the neighborhood.
- 18:08Steph: But between the three of us adults, I feel like someone will be at home passing out candy and glow sticks while everyone else takes the kids sugar trading and we can switch off.
- 18:17Adam: Indeed.
- 18:19Adam: So, what are you dressing up for as Halloween?
- 18:22Steph: I have two options, I'm not sure yet which one.
- 18:25Steph: So, a long time ago, Party City went out of sale and they had a Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas costume that was like$2.
- 18:35Steph: So I bought it.
- 18:37Steph: I think I know where it is, but I'm not sure.
- 18:40Steph: So if I have it and it fits me, I will be Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas.
- 18:45Steph: If not, I'll probably do my standby go-to, which is Dorothy from Wizard of Oz.
- 18:54Adam: You haven't done the Nightmare Before Christmas costume before.
- 18:56Adam: That was just purchased and on hold for a future event.
- 19:00Steph: Yeah, our kids never watched it.
- 19:02Steph: I think it's okay, but I'm not crazy into it.
- 19:05Steph: But it was, like I said,$2, I think.
- 19:07Steph: Maybe it was$2.99.
- 19:08Steph: So I bought it on a whim, and it's in a box of our dress-up stuff.
- 19:15Steph: So I'm pretty like I said, I don't even quite know where it is, but I think I do.
- 19:19Steph: So I just, yeah, it was too good of a price not to get.
- 19:24Adam: There you go.
- 19:25Adam: And I do not have any plans as of right now.
- 19:27Adam: So we need to throw something together, I suppose.
- 19:30Adam: I don't feel like the 2026 has had a lot of cultural phenomenon in terms of like characters.
- 19:39Adam: Like there was the raccoon in Oregon or whatever.
- 19:43Steph: Jim.
- 19:43Adam: Jimothy.
- 19:44Adam: Yep.
- 19:44Adam: Jimothy the the raccoon.
- 19:46Adam: So I don't know how you'd I've seen some people like have creative costumes around.
- 19:50Steph: That would be not that wouldn't be that hard to make if you got a raccoon costume, because isn't his whole thing that he stands on his hind legs?
- 19:56Adam: Yeah, he's just very misshapen.
- 19:59Steph: So if you can stand on your hind legs while you're walking, I mean because the raccoon usually is on four legs.
- 20:06Steph: Right.
- 20:06Steph: But you naturally walk on two.
- 20:08Adam: I suppose so.
- 20:10Steph: You just have to kind of walk wonky.
- 20:12Adam: Right.
- 20:12Adam: But I mean, like in years previous, there's always been like a big thing.
- 20:16Adam: Like there's Toy Story or like K-pop demon hunters or something like that.
- 20:23Adam: I don't feel like there's really been anything this year.
- 20:26Steph: No like that.
- 20:27Steph: That's true.
- 20:28Steph: And often many years, I make you dress up with me.
- 20:31Steph: And we do like a couple's costume.
- 20:34Adam: That's true.
- 20:35Adam: I don't know if I've ever seen The Nightmare Before Christmas.
- 20:39Adam: Maybe.
- 20:40Steph: This week you did.
- 20:41Adam: Well yeah, it was sort of You didn't like it?
- 20:44Adam: Nah.
- 20:45Adam: So I don't even recall exactly all the characters.
- 20:48Steph: So So I had forgotten that I had the Sally costume actually until a neighbor down the road put up a massive, huge nightmare before Christmas scene.
- 20:58Steph: And the kids don't know what it is.
- 21:00Steph: So I had to be like, oh, that's Jack, and that's you know, all this stuff.
- 21:05Steph: So I'm explaining the characters to them.
- 21:07Steph: And I thought they were probably old enough to watch it.
- 21:11Steph: Because, you know, just before they'd get kind of spooked easy.
- 21:16Steph: But they did not enjoy it.
- 21:17Steph: It lost their interest so quickly.
- 21:20Adam: I think I lost my interest pretty quickly too.
- 21:24Steph: I love the Disney though.
- 21:26Steph: If you go to Disneyland right now, the haunted mansion is nightmare before Christmas.
- 21:31Steph: And it's so good.
- 21:33Adam: Yep.
- 21:35Adam: So you, our listener, can always make suggestions for perhaps what I could be for Halloween.
- 21:40Steph: Yeah.
- 21:41Steph: Let him know.
- 21:42Steph: He's got a week.
- 21:44Steph: So you have a week to get your responses in.
- 21:46Adam: Yep.
- 21:47Steph: Try to do sooner than them later because I'm getting busy and I don't have a lot of time to make costumes, even though they're fun.
- 21:54Adam: Indeed.
- 21:55Adam: And then I guess after Halloween, we'll find out if people do anything for Thanksgiving decorations.
- 22:00Adam: Maybe there'll be some people that have like blow up turkey decorations, hopefully.
- 22:04Adam: Or do you want to?
- 22:06Steph: Should we get one?
- 22:07Adam: Maybe because I'm afraid that everybody is going to like immediately decorate for Christmas on like November 1st or something.
- 22:13Steph: I think there's a good chance it's gonna happen.
- 22:17Adam: So maybe we need to buy an inflatable turkey so that we can have the recognition for Thanksgiving before the Christmas season starts.
- 22:26Steph: I'm planning on keeping out our pumpkins and mums as long as.
- 22:29Steph: as they I bought enough pumpkins that I thought that all of us including your dad if he wants we could all carve one next week that's true and then we still have plenty of pumpkins like on our front steps so I have enough that like if we each can do one and then we'll have more still as a decoration so that's fine.
- 22:50Steph: And then if no one wants to carve it then it's just more wall decorations.
- 22:54Steph: But I'm planning on keeping them till the day after Thanksgiving.
- 22:57Steph: And then everything comes out.
- 23:00Adam: Right and we can't feed them to the chickens anymore.
- 23:02Adam: So I don't know what we do with our pumpkins.
- 23:04Steph: I don't know that's what I told yeah that's what I said to you.
- 23:06Steph: I was like what do we do with like the mums and the pumpkins oh man the chickens y'all if you have chickens or you know someone who has them chickens can carve their own jack-o'-lanterns essentially if you barely cut into the is it called a brine what is it called rind the rind and they will peck at it until it's completely cleaned out and then they have their own little like jack o' lantern faces and then they keep eating them until they're completely are destroyed.
- 23:38Adam: Yep.
- 23:39Steph: But it was always really fun to have the chickens and it's such a good treat and it's really healthy for them too.
- 23:44Steph: I guess too many is not good.
- 23:46Adam: Right.
- 23:48Steph: But a few is really good for them.
- 23:50Adam: As long as they don't eat the seeds.
- 23:52Steph: Yeah they're not that great because they can choke on them right that's great.
- 23:56Steph: Yes.
- 23:57Adam: And then I suppose as the seasons turn from Halloween to Thanksgiving to Christmas that we will get a real tree.
- 24:05Adam: I have not thought about where the tree is going to go in our new house.
- 24:08Adam: Have you?
- 24:09Steph: Yes I have oh my goodness I knew it of course of course I have and did you uh see the message I deleted to you about our Christmas tree no I don't believe I did so you must have deleted it before I saw it or something.
- 24:21Steph: Right because sometimes with iPhones right you can send a message and then if they don't see it first you can delete it.
- 24:27Steph: I sent you a message about our Christmas tree and then I realized oh not good since I deleted it.
- 24:33Steph: Because you were asking like where it would go no because we're traveling a little bit it's not a long trip anywhere we're going but in the past when we've been gone we haven't gotten real trees and so I text you like okay well if we go here what are we going to do with the tree and then I thought like oh I look like a Debbie Downer so I deleted the message.
- 24:57Adam: I see.
- 24:58Steph: And instead was just like rah rah we're going on this trip.
- 25:01Adam: Gotcha.
- 25:02Adam: So where are you thinking the tree will go?
- 25:04Steph: I want because you don't like it on carpet.
- 25:07Steph: I know you don't that's what I was already thinking of yes I know you ideally I would love it in that section between the drawing room and the living room but that's carpet.
- 25:19Steph: So if you don't like it there I would put it probably in that same section just more on the wood.
- 25:25Steph: Push it back a little for the main big tree.
- 25:28Adam: I see because y'all we have quite a few trees right for the real tree that it would go on the hardwood floor I suppose.
- 25:37Adam: Yeah then there's other big trees that we have that are a variety of sizes.
- 25:42Steph: Yeah so that's where it would go because that's right where the front door is and the front windows and then you can see it from the living room really well.
- 25:51Steph: I think that's where I'd put the real tree so that way it's on the wood and not on the carpet.
- 25:58Steph: But then our house will definitely be scattered with other fake trees.
- 26:03Adam: Indeed so there you go now you've heard some of our Halloween plans and all of our experiences in our new neighborhood hopefully you've made it this far and did not give up during the optimization section where we repeatedly said the word optimization.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: I almost gave up so that's true.
- 26:20Adam: Good job y'all you're still we're all still here and then yeah I don't know maybe we'll reflect more on how we visualize words or sounds or inflection because I still don't quite understand what that is.
- 26:34Adam: Maybe we can dive more time of that next time indeed so from your friends at IHET until next time remember it is only through talking that we begin the journey to understanding
