- 0:21spell a little special coming your way here right i i sort of feel like i ought
- 0:25to say BR 549 and only old people will know what that means.
- 0:29Yeah. I don't understand. Sorry. Heehaw.
- 0:33We are on the week of VBS here at Kelowna Mennonite.
- 0:37So we are privileged to have the seventh and eighth graders with us and they've
- 0:41come up with some questions for you guys. That's right.
- 0:44So Nikki and I've been working with this class all week. We're very impressed
- 0:47with this class. So we expect we're going to be impressed with our questions. Yeah.
- 0:51We'll see if one of these young'uns can stump you. But first up here,
- 0:56we'll have Wyatt asking his question.
- 1:00Should I get my Bible ready? What does the Bible say will happen during the tribulation?
- 1:06All sorts of things. If you look at Revelation, each of the tribulations look
- 1:12like there are seven actions in every tribulation.
- 1:15And so it will look different where you're at, Where are you looking from?
- 1:19It's as if Revelation tells about those times seven different ways.
- 1:25So that we know there's at least seven different actions that happen during
- 1:28the time of tribulation. We just hope we're not there, right? Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:33Because I believe that Christ is going to come first.
- 1:37And so you and I won't have to worry about that, right, bud? Thank you.
- 1:42That was short answer, folks. That was not the long answer, but that was the
- 1:46short answer. Oh, hi. Hi.
- 1:50So my question is, how do you share Jesus with people who don't think that they need a Savior?
- 1:55Ah, I like to start with their questions because almost everybody has a question.
- 2:01So if they don't think they need a Savior, maybe you encounter them in a spot
- 2:07where they need prayer, ask them, okay, may I pray with you?
- 2:11And if they're open to your prayers, then they might start to ask questions
- 2:15about your faith. If they don't, do you know why I prayed for you?
- 2:19And do you know this hope that I have because I know what God wants for you?
- 2:25And so you talk about the God of hope and what God has to bring into their life.
- 2:30So it gives you a starting spot by asking, hey, I don't know what you're going
- 2:35through today, but could I pray for you?
- 2:38And then that opens the door for you to get their response and what they want
- 2:43prayed for. Okay, thank you. Cool.
- 2:45Good question. Good question.
- 2:48My question is, if people get saved during the tribulation, what happens to them?
- 2:53If they get saved during the tribulation, they'll be like us, saved. Okay.
- 2:57Now, there won't be like the rapture for
- 3:00them like we will have before the tribulation, but they'll have an out.
- 3:06And they know that when their time, when their life has ended,
- 3:10they'll also know, they'll go through the chapter 20, white throne judgment,
- 3:16and they'll know which side they're on.
- 3:17Okay. Get their name in the book of life.
- 3:20Yeah. Yeah. Good question. Good question.
- 3:23Must have been spurred by our discussion today. What do you think?
- 3:26My question is. Get close to the mic. Why did Jews celebrate Pentecost?
- 3:31Why did Jews, well, for the Jews, Pentecost was a holiday that celebrated,
- 3:37well, the wheat harvest for one thing.
- 3:39And then it also celebrated the Torah, which would be God's law.
- 3:43And so it was a celebration of the word, if you would, from the Old Testament
- 3:47perspective of word, which had been like the first five books of the Bible.
- 3:51And so Pentecost for them was a celebration of the season, celebration of what
- 3:56God had given them in the word.
- 3:58And interestingly enough, then God used that day to bring a new word to them in their own language.
- 4:05Good question. Well done.
- 4:08My question is, what are different ways you bring Christ into your everyday life?
- 4:12Different ways to bring Christ into your everyday life. Ah, that's a good question too.
- 4:17Well, for me, it's getting as close as I can to him.
- 4:21So I want to get his word in my heart and I spend time in devotions.
- 4:26We read two chapters of the Bible every morning and we also do a daily bread.
- 4:32So devotional, it's brought to us by somebody else.
- 4:35Time of quiet. I like the time of quiet.
- 4:39And I find that often in that time of quiet, if I truly am able to have quiet
- 4:46and give it to the Lord, he will honor that by bringing me a word or song that I can use all day.
- 4:53So it's almost as if I'm meeting a friend for breakfast and the conversation goes all day.
- 5:01So I find that a good way to get close to Jesus in the word. Thank you. Yeah.
- 5:07They're faster questions than your questions, Ron. Or maybe it's faster answers.
- 5:13That could be too. I'm not on rabbit trails.
- 5:16My question is, do Christians or good people who commit suicide go to heaven?
- 5:21Oh, man, that's a hard one.
- 5:23But it's a good one. It's a good one.
- 5:27Well, I praise the Lord. I'm not the judge of hearts. And God is.
- 5:33So I think we need to realize that most of the people who take their own life
- 5:38are at a spot where they're in immense pain, either physical pain or mental
- 5:44pain, maybe pain of spirit even.
- 5:48And that changes somebody's thinking.
- 5:51And so that reminds us then as Christians that we should always be aware of
- 5:57our feelings and why we feel the way we do.
- 5:59And if we hurt, we should go ask somebody to help us, not isolate ourselves,
- 6:04which is hard because when we're in pain, we tend to isolate ourselves.
- 6:09But for us, we need to get out and be with people, maybe find that friend that
- 6:14you can tell anything to, maybe a pastor, maybe a counselor,
- 6:18depending, but get close to somebody.
- 6:21Whether they are saved or not, that's God's business.
- 6:25But I pray for their soul. I pray for their heart. And the second piece of that is,
- 6:31as a pastor working in the community, I am trying to be more and more sensitive
- 6:37to individuals who hurt, because that's really what that's all about.
- 6:42Are we, as a community of faith, able to recognize and minister to those who are in that kind of pain?
- 6:50That's a really good question. I didn't answer it very well,
- 6:53though, but God's got it. God's got it. Yeah.
- 6:57My question is, if you were already baptized as a baby, can you get baptized again? Yes.
- 7:04You want that short answer? Yes.
- 7:07Yes. And I come from a believer's baptism tradition, and the baptism as a child,
- 7:15you really didn't have much input into.
- 7:18Some, from a tradition I recently was rubbing shoulders with,
- 7:22would say, well, you just confirm the baptism you had as a child.
- 7:26And I can go with that for a certain amount.
- 7:31But the meaning of baptism is so deep and so rich when you think about,
- 7:36especially the Romans 6, about being dead to sin and alive in Christ.
- 7:43So that going under that water as an adult, as a believer who knows what's going
- 7:48on, reminds me that, hey, I have died to sin. I'm buried.
- 7:54And dead people don't sin. anymore.
- 7:58And then I'm raised into new life with Jesus Christ. To me, that makes a lot
- 8:03of difference in how I move ahead in my faith.
- 8:06So that's where I'm at. If I was, and I don't think, I have to ask,
- 8:11mom and dad, was I ever baptized as a baby? We'll get you on that one.
- 8:16I don't think I was, but I know that I was baptized as a believer.
- 8:20And that's the one that I remember. Yeah.
- 8:23So can they? Yeah. I think maybe they should. Yeah.
- 8:27How are we coming on time? Good. Okay. Good deal.
- 8:32What are all the churches you have pastored at? Oh, man.
- 8:36Okay. This goes all back. Yeah. So I started as a youth pastor at Castle United
- 8:41Methodist Church in Alcott, Indiana.
- 8:44And I served there for a year and a half before we were called to Michigan Avenue
- 8:48Mennonite Church in Pigeon, Michigan. And some of you know, Ron Schwarzingerberg, he's from that area.
- 8:54And from Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church, we returned to seminary and finished my degree.
- 8:59Then we went to Yoder Mennonite Church in Yoder, Kansas, and we served there five and a half years.
- 9:06From there, we went to Heston for a period of time where I was youth pastor
- 9:09at Heston Mennonite Church.
- 9:11And then from Heston, we went to Burlington, Iowa.
- 9:14Do you know where that's at? The way down. And I was pastor at the Peace Mennonite
- 9:19Church in Burlington for three and a half years.
- 9:21And then after a little break to recover, we went to Wellman Mennonite Church,
- 9:28which is in this community, and served there as interim pastor.
- 9:33And then we were called to the Presbyterian Church in Winfield,
- 9:37Iowa to be their interim pastor before we were called.
- 9:42Have anybody lost yet? before we were called to Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church,
- 9:47where we served for 19 years.
- 9:50From there, we went to Westchester United Methodist Church at that time.
- 9:56And helped them through the transition from the Methodist church to becoming an independent church.
- 10:01And then we came to, oh, let's see, where are we at? Oh, we're at Kelowna Mennonite
- 10:06Church, where now we've served almost two years.
- 10:09So how many is that? Anybody cap count how many that is? I think it's eight. Ten, okay.
- 10:15Ten, okay. Rowan's got the count. It's ten different congregations.
- 10:20Several were short because they were interims.
- 10:22But yeah, good question. Good question.
- 10:2610 churches, 40 years, average four years of church. Hey, yeah. Okay. Ain't bad.
- 10:32But one of them was 19. So that sort of skews things.
- 10:38Neighborhood. This is actually, can we let this out?
- 10:41This is Rowan's brother. You notice little, this is Rowan's little brother. Okay.
- 10:48Yeah. Yeah. Actually, I'll throw it out there. Potentially next host. Oh, there you go.
- 10:54Good smile. Hey, he's got it. So your question, Kelly.
- 10:58So if somebody is a Baptist, as in John the Baptist, does that mean their job
- 11:04is only baptizing people in like talking, like preaching, I guess?
- 11:08Well, and it could be because John the Baptist did a lot of preaching.
- 11:12In fact, his role was prepare the way for Christ. And he said,
- 11:17here I come to prepare the way of the Lord.
- 11:20Repent and be baptized every one of you. And he was talking about a repentance.
- 11:25For the forgiveness of sins. We know that John's baptism existed all the way
- 11:31into the book of Acts because several churches that started up had the baptism
- 11:36of John, but were not baptized with the Holy Spirit.
- 11:38And we see that almost up to chapter 15 of Acts.
- 11:43So it was good work he did, praying the way for Christ.
- 11:47Yeah. Good question. Good question. Now, does that mean you only want to be
- 11:51a preacher or only a Baptist preacher?
- 11:54Oh, okay. I'm giving you a hard time killing.
- 11:58Cool. That might be it for the questions. Any others? Oh, we got a second.
- 12:04We did allow them if they had a follow-up, they could do it in a second. Here's Wyatt.
- 12:09If a Christian, if there's a Christian and they sin and then die before they
- 12:14can repent, do they go to heaven?
- 12:16Well, remember that first Corinthians chapter three passage that we talked about? It's 11 to 15.
- 12:21And so basically the works we're put on top of the foundation of Christ, right?
- 12:27For no other foundation can be laid than that which is already laid, which is Christ Jesus.
- 12:32And then on top of that foundation, we either sow with gold,
- 12:36silver, costly stones, or wood, hay, and straw.
- 12:40And so I would say probably our sin when we do it is probably straw.
- 12:45And so if they don't have time to repent, we know that in 1 John 1,
- 12:508 and 9, it says, confess your sins and,
- 12:55moment, confess your sins and, oh, Rowan, help me. 1 John 1, 9, 8 and 9.
- 13:04If you confess your sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins
- 13:08and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- 13:10But if we don't confess our sins, we make God out to be a liar.
- 13:14So you're right. Confession is really good and it's good for the soul.
- 13:19It's something we as Christians ought to be actively engaged in.
- 13:22God has a very understanding heart if something would happen and I maybe would
- 13:28sin against you and hit you and not confess it before I die in a crash on the
- 13:34way home. I think God's got that.
- 13:36Okay? Yep. Thank you. Thank you.
- 13:39Real quick, we had some questions about Revelation, so pre-rapture tribulation
- 13:44or post-rapture tribulation?
- 13:46Tribulation? Well, I think the tribulation, let's see, where's my graph?
- 13:51It's over there somewhere.
- 13:52I really think the tribulation is going to be after the thousand-year reign.
- 13:57That seems to be much more chaotic than before.
- 14:00If you look at Revelation chapter 20 and the thousand-year reign,
- 14:05it looks like the reign starts, Jesus comes, does the judgment,
- 14:10and the ruling bunch who had been beheaded rule with him.
- 14:15And then right after that is that Armageddon and Gog and Magog,
- 14:20those strife given wars.
- 14:26And so I'm almost thinking it happens in that ring, that period of time. No?
- 14:32I don't know for sure. I'm not there and I don't plan to be there at that time
- 14:36because I plan to be with Jesus.
- 14:40But something's going to set the stage for it.
- 14:45He was asking tribulation, raptures before.
- 14:50Yeah, yeah, that. Sorry, I worded
- 14:52it wrong. Oh, the rapture happens before tribulation. Okay. I am sorry.
- 14:57Rabbit trail, Don's fried. Yeah. Okay. Yeah.
- 15:01Yeah. The raptures before the tribulation, before the thousand year reign. Yeah. Yeah.
- 15:06Yeah. Whichever way you put the tribulation part. Yeah.
- 15:11I see that in scripture. Yeah. Wow.
- 15:14So it's been good. I really like this class and I hope you enjoyed this podcast
- 15:19and stick around for another one one of these days.
- 15:22Yeah. I think the kids kind of got Don a little worn out this week,
- 15:25but maybe good for him. I don't know. Need Mageritol. Yes.
- 15:29And old people will only understand that too. Yeah.
- 15:33Yet again, do not know. Yeah. But thank you guys for joining us again this week.
- 15:37We'll see you next time. Thank you for joining us for this podcast.
