- Lucas: Hey, welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 157! Can you believe it? Lucas: I know, right? And today we're staying in the park, but moving to a new piece of playground equipment. Luna: Ooh, what is it? A seesaw? I loved those when I was a kid. Lucas: Exactly! In Spanish, a seesaw is called 'el sube y baja'. Luna: El sube y baja. That literally means 'the up and down', right? Lucas: Exactly. 'Sube' means it goes up, 'baja' means it goes down. So 'el sube y baja'. Let's say it together. Luna: El sube y baja. Lucas: Good. Now, if you want to get on the seesaw, you say 'subirse al sube y baja'. Luna: Subirse al sube y baja. 'Subirse' is like 'to get on'. Lucas: Exactly. And to get off, 'bajarse del sube y baja'. Luna: Bajarse del sube y baja. So 'bajarse' is 'to get off'. Lucas: You've got it. Now, let's imagine you're at the park with a friend and you see a seesaw. You can ask: '¿Quieres subirte al sube y baja?' Luna: ¿Quieres subirte al sube y baja? That's 'Do you want to get on the seesaw?'. Lucas: Perfect. And your friend can answer: 'Sí, quiero subirme'. Luna: Sí, quiero subirme. 'Yes, I want to get on'. Lucas: Then, when you're on, you can say: 'Empuja con los pies'. Luna: Empuja con los pies. 'Push with your feet'. Lucas: Let's practice a mini conversation. I'll be the friend. You start. Luna: Okay. ¿Quieres subirte al sube y baja? Lucas: Sí, quiero subirme. Luna: Great. Then I say: Empuja con los pies. Lucas: And I push. Perfect. Now let's switch roles. You be the one asking. Luna: Okay, so I ask: ¿Quieres subirte al sube y baja? Lucas: Sí, quiero subirme. Luna: Then I say: Empuja con los pies. Lucas: You got it. Let's do the whole thing again but faster. Luna: ¿Quieres subirte al sube y baja? Lucas: Sí, quiero subirme. Luna: Empuja con los pies. Lucas: Nice. Now, if you want to get off, you say: 'Me voy a bajar del sube y baja'. Luna: Me voy a bajar del sube y baja. 'I'm going to get off the seesaw'. Lucas: Exactly. Or simply: 'Bájate' if you're telling someone else to get off. Luna: Bájate. That's 'Get off'. Lucas: You're a natural. Let's put it all together in a little story. Imagine two kids, Ana and Luis, at the park. Luna: Ana says: ¡Mira, un sube y baja! ¿Quieres subirte? Lucas: Luis answers: Sí, quiero subirme. And they both get on. Luna: Then Ana says: Empuja con los pies. And they start moving. Lucas: After a while, Luis says: Me voy a bajar. Bájate tú también. Luna: So Ana says: Está bien, me bajo. And they both get off. Lucas: Perfect. That's a full seesaw interaction. Let's review the key phrases one more time. Luna: El sube y baja. Lucas: Subirse al sube y baja. Luna: Bajarse del sube y baja. Lucas: ¿Quieres subirte? Luna: Sí, quiero subirme. Lucas: Empuja con los pies. Luna: I love this. It's such a fun phrase to say.
