- 2:16Speaker 1: me and the homie Tony of Into the Dome Podcast
- 2:20Speaker 1: collaborated on another edition of That Time in Hip Hop.
- 2:26Speaker 1: If you don't know what that is, well that is
- 2:28Speaker 1: a show that I created a while ago. We did Boss.
- 2:32Speaker 1: We did like seventy something episodes about moments in history,
- 2:39Speaker 1: you know, moments in hip hop history, so not only
- 2:44Speaker 1: talking albums and artists, but events, films, moguls in the game, producers,
- 2:52Speaker 1: all kinds of things. What if all of that, And
- 2:56Speaker 1: we recently did a show to salute the legendary record
- 3:00Speaker 1: label Loud Records, who had a roster of Big pun
- 3:05Speaker 1: Wu Tang Ray Kwan, Mob Deep Mop, Alcoholics, Exhibit Crazy
- 3:14Speaker 1: Bone Twister. It was a moment in time, So if
- 3:19Speaker 1: you would like to, you know, do the knowledge, get
- 3:21Speaker 1: some history, all take a walk down memory lane. Check
- 3:25Speaker 1: out that episode. That's what we did last week before
- 3:29Speaker 1: we get started. Unfortunately, hate to have to do these,
- 3:33Speaker 1: but another rapper has passed away, this time due to
- 3:38Speaker 1: a drug overdose. It seems autopsy isnt available, but judging
- 3:43Speaker 1: Bob what I saw regarding the No On one call,
- 3:47Speaker 1: it sounds like an overdose. Like it's straight up an overdose.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Rich Homey Kwan. Most may know him from the song
- 3:56Speaker 1: Lifestyle featuring Young Thug, which we all did and understand
- 4:00Speaker 1: he was saying. But the song was a bop, you
- 4:02Speaker 1: know it was, and probably my favorite type of way
- 4:09Speaker 1: when I tell you I play that song to this day, Bars,
- 4:15Speaker 1: it's just dope. It just fits the energy of when
- 4:21Speaker 1: you know your haters are mad at you, and you're like,
- 4:26Speaker 1: I keep winning, and I know you're gonna feel some
- 4:29Speaker 1: type of way because you see me winning, which means angry.
- 4:33Speaker 1: For those who don't know, trust me, there are people
- 4:35Speaker 1: in the comments watching this who think everybody knows that no,
- 4:38Speaker 1: they don't. No, they don't. And then plus my podcast
- 4:43Speaker 1: gets a lot of people who come here for information
- 4:46Speaker 1: to learn things, right, you know, it's a safe space.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Like yo, I don't really know what my type of
- 4:50Speaker 1: way is. What does that mean? That's what I'm here for.
- 4:55Speaker 1: So there you have it. But yeah, he passed away.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I think he was like only thirty four years old.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Terrible thing that happened to anyone celebrity or not. So
- 5:07Speaker 1: I just want to say rest in peace to rich
- 5:09Speaker 1: homey Kwan, praise to his family, and yeah, man hip
- 5:15Speaker 1: hop man, we've been losing a lot of people because
- 5:17Speaker 1: again I wasn't I didn't do a live show last
- 5:22Speaker 1: week on news show last week and Fat Man's school
- 5:26Speaker 1: passed away, collapsed on stage, which was terrible. You know,
- 5:31Speaker 1: I think he was like fifty four or fifty two
- 5:34Speaker 1: something like that. So also a rected piece to Fat
- 5:37Speaker 1: Man's schoop. If you don't know who he is, he
- 5:40Speaker 1: is a part of the fabric of hip hop with
- 5:43Speaker 1: the high school with Diamond d Right, a DJ, you know,
- 5:47Speaker 1: well known DJ, especially in the New York City area,
- 5:50Speaker 1: probably more famous, I would dare to say internationally. If
- 5:55Speaker 1: you've heard the songs for you know him over breakbeats.
- 5:59Speaker 1: You know, I'm saying bags drop, bass drop like crazy,
- 6:06Speaker 1: like kind of what the MC used to be way
- 6:10Speaker 1: back in the beginning of hip hop where the DJ
- 6:14Speaker 1: did they thing, but the MC hyped the crowd up
- 6:17Speaker 1: like he was kind of like the master of what
- 6:21Speaker 1: that version of the MC used to be back in
- 6:25Speaker 1: the days, which is dope. You know, obviously had the
- 6:28Speaker 1: Dope record with Missy and Sierra. So again, rest in
- 6:32Speaker 1: peace the fat Man School. Rest in peace to rich
- 6:37Speaker 1: Homey Kwan, you know, just lost way too soon for
- 6:41Speaker 1: the both of those brothers. Big shout out to hip
- 6:47Speaker 1: Hop DX dot com, all hip Hop dot Com and myself.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Let's get right into the business. So Push Your Tea
- 6:59Speaker 1: recently did an interview and he said, y'ao, the new
- 7:04Speaker 1: CLIPS album, Push Your t In No Malice is done,
- 7:09Speaker 1: produced by Pharau. The name of the album is called
- 7:12Speaker 1: let God Sort Them Out. Let God sort them out.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I ain't gonna worry about let God sort them out. Okay,
- 7:20Speaker 1: he didn't say like that. I'm just saying like that,
- 7:23Speaker 1: but he's saying, Yo, album's done. We're just waiting on
- 7:27Speaker 1: one feature and it's the one feature. Both of them
- 7:31Speaker 1: have probably won it. I think they've expressed this, but
- 7:34Speaker 1: have won it on the Clips album since forever and
- 7:38Speaker 1: it's NAS now. He didn't say who it was in
- 7:43Speaker 1: the interview. He kind of looked at the cameras like,
- 7:46Speaker 1: we're just waiting on you, right, But it's come out
- 7:53Speaker 1: that it's Nas now. Nas has been making the rounds.
- 7:56Speaker 1: You know that hip boy run got NAS hot in
- 7:58Speaker 1: the streets. You know, he announced the album with Permit
- 8:02Speaker 1: It that's supposed to happen this year. I don't know
- 8:05Speaker 1: if it's going to happen. Maybe, who knows. It's a
- 8:09Speaker 1: lot of it's a lot happening, but we still have time.
- 8:12Speaker 1: He's on a new LL album, and he's going to
- 8:16Speaker 1: be on this Clips album which is also coming out,
- 8:18Speaker 1: which is NAS out Here, Nas out Here, And I
- 8:25Speaker 1: got some thoughts on NAS as it relates to the
- 8:28Speaker 1: l L album. But I cannot wait for this album,
- 8:34Speaker 1: like I may have said, like the Nas in premier joint,
- 8:40Speaker 1: I anticipated, but I'd rather let them cook. So even
- 8:43Speaker 1: if they didn't come out until twenty twenty five, as
- 8:46Speaker 1: long as they get it right, I don't care when
- 8:48Speaker 1: it drops. Their albums are anticipated that I knew what
- 8:54Speaker 1: were coming out, But the Clips album is the one
- 8:58Speaker 1: I really want because I know the ballwork is going
- 9:02Speaker 1: to be top level. I just know it because there's
- 9:08Speaker 1: no reason why you get back with your brother who
- 9:11Speaker 1: to me, you know, and it's no offense to anybody
- 9:15Speaker 1: on the religion side anything. But once he became No Malice,
- 9:22Speaker 1: I think he took a step down as an MC
- 9:25Speaker 1: as far as technique and scale, because when they were
- 9:29Speaker 1: the Clips, Malice was my favorite out the group. I
- 9:33Speaker 1: thought Malice had more of the personality, more of the bars.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I think pusher T evolved into the supreme lyricists he
- 9:43Speaker 1: is over time. He was nice back with the Clips,
- 9:47Speaker 1: but I think as a soloist is where he really
- 9:51Speaker 1: found his foot and kind of became that dude. So
- 9:54Speaker 1: now that him and his brother getting back together, I
- 9:57Speaker 1: think what pusher T has become LIB will rub off
- 10:01Speaker 1: on No Malice and push him to become what he
- 10:05Speaker 1: used to be before he was No Malice, you know,
- 10:09Speaker 1: when he was Malice. And I just want to say
- 10:12Speaker 1: this about you know, we haven't heard the album, but
- 10:14Speaker 1: I want to say this about that whole situation. I
- 10:20Speaker 1: feel like the Clips didn't have to end because of
- 10:26Speaker 1: his change. Now I get it. Maybe he needed to
- 10:29Speaker 1: step completely away from hip hop and that meant not
- 10:34Speaker 1: making music. So taking a break was cool. But when
- 10:38Speaker 1: he came back, and I think he had an album
- 10:40Speaker 1: and all of that, it just didn't It just didn't
- 10:46Speaker 1: contain the energy or the essence of who he was
- 10:50Speaker 1: as an MC. It was like he was trying to
- 10:53Speaker 1: find his way as no malice, right, Like he didn't
- 10:57Speaker 1: know how to rap about things if he couldn't rap
- 11:01Speaker 1: about what he used to rap about, which was drugs
- 11:04Speaker 1: and all that. But I think there is a laying
- 11:06Speaker 1: and I think it'll be displayed on this album where
- 11:09Speaker 1: you can you don't have to promote it, but there's
- 11:15Speaker 1: a way to talk about it and not be preachy
- 11:20Speaker 1: about it, you know, not to every five minutes. Yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 1: the cocaine lift up, but I used to do that.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Oh the gun spit, but I used to do We
- 11:29Speaker 1: know you used to do that. There's a way to
- 11:33Speaker 1: talk about it and still have the redemption as a
- 11:37Speaker 1: part of it, because I think the redemption is understood
- 11:41Speaker 1: by fans. But we shall see. Because Push your Tea
- 11:46Speaker 1: stayed talking like cocaine Flips, and I'm just like, is
- 11:52Speaker 1: he gonna be more no maliced and push your tea?
- 11:55Speaker 1: And I don't think I want that if it's anything
- 11:58Speaker 1: like what we heard a while back. So we'll see.
- 12:03Speaker 1: There's a lot of hype behind it. What I could
- 12:06Speaker 1: hear from snippets of songs, it sounds like it might
- 12:10Speaker 1: be like they might be back. I'll just say this, no, Mata,
- 12:16Speaker 1: Let's go talk to Mace, Okay, because Mace knew how
- 12:23Speaker 1: to still be Mace without being murder Maze. But it
- 12:28Speaker 1: felt like murder Mace. But you know what I'm saying,
- 12:31Speaker 1: Like it was like he was back and it wasn't
- 12:35Speaker 1: secular music really, but I don't know what it is now.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm confusing with myself. But at this point,
- 12:41Speaker 1: I think if you're gonna make a Clips album, it
- 12:43Speaker 1: gotta sound like a Clips album. It can't sound like
- 12:47Speaker 1: something else. It just can't because people want a Clips
- 12:51Speaker 1: album and you're selling a Clips album. So we'll see.
- 12:58Speaker 1: So I subscribe to matth Hoffa's podcast via YouTube. It's
- 13:04Speaker 1: called My Expert Opinion. One of the reasons why I
- 13:07Speaker 1: prefer it over Gilly, Joe Budden and even probably more
- 13:13Speaker 1: recently Drink Champs is because I like mass questions and
- 13:19Speaker 1: he doesn't step on his guest's answers and the way
- 13:25Speaker 1: others do and not saying all of them do we
- 13:28Speaker 1: know nor? He does that notoriously, but that's what I
- 13:32Speaker 1: like about watching his podcast, and I like the guests
- 13:37Speaker 1: he brings on right. Like, sure, it's sometimes it's the
- 13:41Speaker 1: same guests that you sow over here, over there or whatever,
- 13:46Speaker 1: but sometimes you feel like you're getting a real barbershop conversation.
- 13:53Speaker 1: There's a lot of like barbishop couch podcasts that trade
- 14:00Speaker 1: themselves as a group of indidividuals just kicking it and
- 14:04Speaker 1: they just happen to have a guess in it and
- 14:06Speaker 1: asking them questions, but it's never really done in execution
- 14:11Speaker 1: the way I think my expert opinion is done right
- 14:14Speaker 1: for example. And we're not gonna get too into this
- 14:17Speaker 1: because we're gonna talk about the guests. But what the
- 14:22Speaker 1: difference is is I feel like other podcasts are there
- 14:27Speaker 1: where it feels like they're performing. They're not an extension
- 14:31Speaker 1: of the audience, and they also not the audience getting
- 14:36Speaker 1: to peek into what would have been a personal conversation
- 14:40Speaker 1: within the barbershop. To me, that's important because now I
- 14:44Speaker 1: feel like I'm a fly on a wall or that
- 14:47Speaker 1: would have been my next question, you know, or I
- 14:50Speaker 1: didn't think about that. Let's see how the guests answers
- 14:52Speaker 1: that question. A lot of times some of these podcasts,
- 14:56Speaker 1: the minute the whole start to speak, it's a performance
- 15:00Speaker 1: and it takes away from the focus, which is the guest.
- 15:05Speaker 1: You know, you're gonna be able to shine just off
- 15:09Speaker 1: the mere fact of taking part in it and having
- 15:12Speaker 1: an opinion. And I like the camera work. But besides that,
- 15:19Speaker 1: lately there's been a lot of drama with the show
- 15:21Speaker 1: and former guests and stuff like that, and reposting old episodes,
- 15:25Speaker 1: which I thought was cool because I didn't watch every
- 15:27Speaker 1: single episode, so I was able to catch up on
- 15:29Speaker 1: some stuff, and then some guests that I really didn't
- 15:33Speaker 1: care to really learn anything about, so I was picky
- 15:36Speaker 1: with what I would watch. And then I saw they
- 15:39Speaker 1: were talking to little Sean, and I'm like, wow, I
- 15:43Speaker 1: don't think i've seen Lili Sean since the mid nineties.
- 15:47Speaker 1: And I'm not joking now. It doesn't mean he wasn't around.
- 15:50Speaker 1: It just means I haven't seen him. And when it
- 15:54Speaker 1: made me think. I was like, oh wait, he's gonna
- 15:59Speaker 1: talk about the Quad studio shooting, because I know on
- 16:02Speaker 1: Matt Poppa's podcast and Norrie's podcast, for the most part,
- 16:07Speaker 1: they get right to what we want to know. And
- 16:10Speaker 1: I think it's a very important guess to have because
- 16:15Speaker 1: of all the different takes about from Tupac about what happened,
- 16:22Speaker 1: from Diddy, what happened from Haitian Jack from what's his name?
- 16:30Speaker 1: Locked up? The other Haitian Jimmy Hinchmin's my bad, his
- 16:35Speaker 1: take on it, sees take on it. Other people who
- 16:39Speaker 1: were in and around were there, weren't there right too?
- 16:43Speaker 1: Like funk Master Fox Flex saying Tupac shot himself. I
- 16:48Speaker 1: don't think Flex was DJ and at the damn in
- 16:51Speaker 1: the lobby. But I always was curious because there was
- 16:57Speaker 1: one thing that was always said when Tupac or whoever
- 17:01Speaker 1: talked about that shooting, right, and this is the first
- 17:05Speaker 1: time he got shot for those who don't know, this
- 17:08Speaker 1: was in New York before he had the rape case.
- 17:13Speaker 1: And I always wondered because everybody would say, including Tupac,
- 17:17Speaker 1: I was going up to the studio to record a
- 17:21Speaker 1: song with Little Sean, you know, what I'm saying, Jimmy Henchman,
- 17:27Speaker 1: I wanted to bring him on this song with Little Sean.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Everybody said that, so I wondered, like, well, Little Sean
- 17:34Speaker 1: had to be there, and nobody talks about where Little
- 17:40Speaker 1: Sean was, why, how or more importantly he does it.
- 17:45Speaker 1: And I'm not following the internet to a t. I know,
- 17:50Speaker 1: I think he did drink Champs. I didn't watch that,
- 17:54Speaker 1: but this is me seeing it now, and he talked
- 17:57Speaker 1: about it in a very cryptic way. So let me
- 17:59Speaker 1: just get to the point. He basically talked about how,
- 18:05Speaker 1: for one, he's working on a film that tells his story.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Now to me, I'm extremely interested in this, and I
- 18:14Speaker 1: think some people and these other hip hop heads and
- 18:17Speaker 1: mostly not all, and mostly you internet cats think because
- 18:23Speaker 1: if you go and listen to the songs or remember
- 18:25Speaker 1: Little Sean songs, you feel like you don't believe anything
- 18:29Speaker 1: he's saying. He's not a thug. You know what he made?
- 18:31Speaker 1: Hickys what you know what I'm saying, Don perry On,
- 18:37Speaker 1: what First of all, Little Sean, if you was in
- 18:40Speaker 1: the club, little Sean had two joints. That was crazy,
- 18:43Speaker 1: Don perry On and the hickeys on your neck joint.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Little Sean was dope. What I did know that he
- 18:50Speaker 1: also revealed is that he pattered himself after ll COOLJ
- 18:55Speaker 1: because that's who he wanted to be like. So that's
- 18:57Speaker 1: why he made the music he made. But more important,
- 19:00Speaker 1: he also was notoriously a ghostwriter for rappers, one including
- 19:06Speaker 1: Father mc. Now, when you go listen to them Little
- 19:11Speaker 1: Sean songs, you hear Father m seeds flow like, oh,
- 19:18Speaker 1: he did write those choics because he flowed just the
- 19:22Speaker 1: same way Father them seeds flows. So Father mc man,
- 19:26Speaker 1: if you ain't writing nothing, I got problems with you
- 19:28Speaker 1: because I thought you was dope. I even got to
- 19:30Speaker 1: take back here if LOUI Sean wrote your whole joint,
- 19:32Speaker 1: it's right. I don't know that. But the fact that
- 19:35Speaker 1: he was a ghostwriter, and all these stories of working
- 19:38Speaker 1: with Uptown and early bad Boy years and all that,
- 19:41Speaker 1: so Little Sean was in the mix. Lou Shawn is
- 19:44Speaker 1: literally an extension of the audience. He's the fly on
- 19:47Speaker 1: the wall. More importantly, he's a street dude who knows
- 19:53Speaker 1: what's real. And what he implies is that there's some
- 19:59Speaker 1: people or a lion or or trying to make this
- 20:04Speaker 1: story of Tupac getting shot extremely fantastical when it was
- 20:09Speaker 1: routine stuff. The suspicion of what was going to happen
- 20:16Speaker 1: or something happening was there for most of the parties
- 20:20Speaker 1: being involved. This is what I get from what the
- 20:23Speaker 1: story that Little Sean told on this one clip. And
- 20:27Speaker 1: I think in a lot of ways. Some people I
- 20:30Speaker 1: looked at the comments, some peoples like, yo, I learned nothing.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, I learned a lot. I learned what
- 20:35Speaker 1: I already knew. That something sound funny. But Little Sean
- 20:43Speaker 1: is making sense because he's like, I never had a
- 20:46Speaker 1: relationship with Tupac like that to even be doing a feature,
- 20:50Speaker 1: and I had been around him before. And he implies
- 20:57Speaker 1: that most people I don't know if he's talking about
- 20:59Speaker 1: Big and Puff or whatever, and Andre Herrel, who was supposed
- 21:03Speaker 1: to be there, but that most people knew Tupac was
- 21:07Speaker 1: coming there and knew there was something funny going on
- 21:13Speaker 1: with how this was all set up right now to
- 21:17Speaker 1: play Devil's advocate. I mean, if Jimmy Henchman and Tupac
- 21:22Speaker 1: got some dealings and Tupac owed him some money and
- 21:26Speaker 1: he said, okay, well I need you to do a
- 21:29Speaker 1: feature on my artist's song. Tupac is a huge star
- 21:35Speaker 1: at the time, it's going to help lu Sean even
- 21:38Speaker 1: more so. That's to me, that's not suspicious. But if
- 21:45Speaker 1: you start to add up bits and pieces of what
- 21:47Speaker 1: you heard, you knew that Jimmy Henchman and Tupac kind
- 21:51Speaker 1: of had a problem. And one story I forget who
- 21:54Speaker 1: told it was that for Jimmy Henchman it became less
- 21:58Speaker 1: about the money and more about the respect, and he
- 22:01Speaker 1: wanted to teach Poc a lesson. So I'm gonna watch
- 22:08Speaker 1: the rest of this interview when it's available. But I
- 22:13Speaker 1: like the way you're talking, little Sean. I like the
- 22:16Speaker 1: fact that you're a guy who wasn't out here all
- 22:18Speaker 1: the time, talking everybody on every podcast, saying everything you
- 22:23Speaker 1: can say, taking every check, and you're getting right to
- 22:28Speaker 1: the business. And I'm interested because his behind the scenes
- 22:34Speaker 1: is the type of look you don't usually get in
- 22:37Speaker 1: the music industry, with that one person who's connected to
- 22:41Speaker 1: so many different people, but they move differently, they don't
- 22:46Speaker 1: talk a lot, so when they decide to talk, you know,
- 22:49Speaker 1: it's usually a lot there. And a Z was kind
- 22:53Speaker 1: of kind of like that. But as wasn't gonna say
- 22:57Speaker 1: nothing whole time, my nigga asking them like what do
- 23:00Speaker 1: you think with fifty cent thist? You? You'd be like,
- 23:02Speaker 1: come on, man, come on man, you know what I'm saying.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Why you asking that? Man? And I was just like, look,
- 23:07Speaker 1: azy you. If you came here to say nothing, dog,
- 23:11Speaker 1: get you the head shaped up, you know, get the
- 23:13Speaker 1: line up and get out the bob shop, okay, because
- 23:16Speaker 1: it's not why we watch it. So there you have it.
- 23:20Speaker 1: I mean, did you see that interview or that clip?
- 23:24Speaker 1: What do you think about it? I'm not really here
- 23:28Speaker 1: for the entertaining. I'm just trying to get to the
- 23:31Speaker 1: real facts because sometimes some things become like little Sean
- 23:36Speaker 1: said something that I thought was pretty dope, because it's true.
- 23:39Speaker 1: It's hard to change the minds of the entertainment. And
- 23:43Speaker 1: that's so true because there are people who are entertained
- 23:47Speaker 1: by this whole story of Tupac and the East Coast
- 23:52Speaker 1: West Coast quote unquote beef that leaves out these other
- 23:55Speaker 1: two goons that ain't really about East Coast, right, It's
- 24:00Speaker 1: really about beef, period, And you know, people just so
- 24:05Speaker 1: entertained by all of it. Death Row bad Boy Quad
- 24:09Speaker 1: Studio shooting, Biggie Dying, Tupac Dying, you know, KEVD Like
- 24:15Speaker 1: it's all become entertainment and it's not really getting down
- 24:20Speaker 1: to what really happened, which is things that happen all
- 24:23Speaker 1: the time to people who are less known, and it's
- 24:29Speaker 1: just real. So end. Lastly, so I ain't gonna hold
- 24:38Speaker 1: y'ab man. Y'all already know where I stand with this. Okay,
- 24:43Speaker 1: we ain't we ain't gotta we ain't gotta labor no points.
- 24:47Speaker 1: We ain't gotta say it a million times. I did
- 24:50Speaker 1: a whole episode on why I think L L KOOJ
- 24:54Speaker 1: is the goat that hasn't changed for me, And it's
- 25:00Speaker 1: really about it's not just about bars. It's not just
- 25:04Speaker 1: about record sales. It's not just about performance. It's about
- 25:08Speaker 1: checking all of those boxes. It's not just about longevity
- 25:14Speaker 1: or albums or classics. It's about all of it. And
- 25:17Speaker 1: LL has literally done all of it. He is the
- 25:21Speaker 1: blueprint of longevity as it relates to success, because there
- 25:26Speaker 1: are rappers who have longevity. Now, it's just prove he
- 25:30Speaker 1: got serious longevity right too short you know eve forty right,
- 25:36Speaker 1: you know they album councils beyond ten. But L was
- 25:42Speaker 1: successful in several decades of hip hop, and when he's
- 25:48Speaker 1: coming from being an artist mid to late eighties and
- 25:54Speaker 1: able to be relevant in decades and eerrors of hip
- 25:58Speaker 1: hop where different artists, different labels, different parts of the
- 26:05Speaker 1: country ran hip hop and LL still had hits on
- 26:10Speaker 1: the radio right next to them, unheard of, unheard of.
- 26:17Speaker 1: It's just it now. You can make dope music for years,
- 26:21Speaker 1: but can you be popular at the same time and successful? Well?
- 26:26Speaker 1: L COOLJ is back after a eleven year hiatus from
- 26:32Speaker 1: making music with a new album called The Force, entirely
- 26:37Speaker 1: produced by q Tip of a tribe called Quest Now.
- 26:41Speaker 1: The quick backstory is originally when LL announced he was
- 26:45Speaker 1: coming back with a new album, it was produced entirely
- 26:51Speaker 1: by Doctor Dre. Now, I know you say to yourself, well,
- 26:54Speaker 1: where's that? Well, according to him, and I think doctor
- 26:59Speaker 1: D I don't really remember Doctor J talking about it.
- 27:03Speaker 1: What they had wasn't working. It wasn't it. Something was
- 27:08Speaker 1: missing from that energy. And then he announced that he
- 27:11Speaker 1: was working with YouTube, which peaked a lot of hip
- 27:14Speaker 1: hop fans interests, but somebody like me was still kind
- 27:18Speaker 1: of like, how will it work? Right? And this was
- 27:23Speaker 1: a while ago. It was a couple of years ago
- 27:24Speaker 1: when they teased this, you know. Then we eventually got
- 27:27Speaker 1: the song in the force, and then we started to
- 27:30Speaker 1: get singles a little bit later, at like almost a
- 27:32Speaker 1: year later. But now here we are. The album is
- 27:36Speaker 1: here real quick, let's just go over the song. I mean,
- 27:41Speaker 1: the album is fourteen tracks deep, forty three minutes in length.
- 27:47Speaker 1: That's my kind of album, right, I'm not trying to
- 27:51Speaker 1: stay here all day. Features on this album include a
- 27:56Speaker 1: couple couple Donable features on here include Snoop Dogg, Q, Tip, Eminem,
- 28:02Speaker 1: Rick Ross, Fat Joe nas Buster rhymes, Sweetie, I think
- 28:07Speaker 1: that's how you say the name, and more right, a
- 28:13Speaker 1: really packed album that I'm not gonna hold you For
- 28:17Speaker 1: those who just need a review up front, it's refreshing.
- 28:22Speaker 1: That's what I'll say now. As someone who is a
- 28:26Speaker 1: big L fan, He's not my favorite, right. He might
- 28:29Speaker 1: be my top five favorite, but my favorite is big Okay.
- 28:36Speaker 1: His last maybe three albums in the early two thousands
- 28:40Speaker 1: were garbage. The best song that I can just least
- 28:45Speaker 1: remember was a song he had with Joe and I
- 28:48Speaker 1: don't even think that appeared on the album. And after
- 28:53Speaker 1: decades of having hit after hit, dope album after dope album,
- 28:58Speaker 1: dope songs and all that. He kind of went on
- 29:01Speaker 1: like a three album run. And I think there was
- 29:04Speaker 1: like a hit of two in those maybe those first two.
- 29:07Speaker 1: But he went on a three album run where those
- 29:10Speaker 1: albums weren't working. I think I thought it was over.
- 29:14Speaker 1: I thought, you know, the energy had dried up for him,
- 29:17Speaker 1: because you hear him. He was relevant in so many
- 29:20Speaker 1: different decades that now, I think around the time of
- 29:24Speaker 1: these albums when the South really took over and he
- 29:27Speaker 1: wasn't necessarily going to go there and start sounding like
- 29:31Speaker 1: that because that really would have finished him. But what
- 29:34Speaker 1: he was making just didn't have a place in hip
- 29:36Speaker 1: hop anymore. But now this new album with q Tip
- 29:42Speaker 1: is different. Now, I say it's refreshing because of q Tip.
- 29:51Speaker 1: It's production ll over. Q Tip's production feels familiar but
- 30:00Speaker 1: weird at the same time. Right, production wise, it's tried.
- 30:06Speaker 1: I can hear Tribe on a lot of these tracks,
- 30:09Speaker 1: especially when Q tip is doing a hook. It sounds
- 30:12Speaker 1: it reminds me of there a Tribe call Quest's last album,
- 30:16Speaker 1: like let Me borrow five dollars, y'all can take it
- 30:18Speaker 1: from here, whatever it's called, I can't remember, but all
- 30:25Speaker 1: sounds like lal and he sounds more like late nineties,
- 30:33Speaker 1: maybe mid late nineties, kind of early two thousand. Goat
- 30:38Speaker 1: album l ll all sounds good. He sounds really good.
- 30:44Speaker 1: He don't sound old, he don't sound different, you know
- 30:47Speaker 1: how like you get gruff ghost face, but you kind
- 30:53Speaker 1: of missed the Sean Da had to wing be like
- 30:55Speaker 1: the high voice, Like you don't get that ghost more.
- 30:57Speaker 1: You get this gruff version that just don't hit the same.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Ll sound exactly the same. And there's one song where
- 31:04Speaker 1: his flow kind of switches up and he almost sounds
- 31:07Speaker 1: like eighties, you know, late eightiesl and I think it's
- 31:13Speaker 1: pretty dope because lyrically he's good. Remember go look up
- 31:21Speaker 1: kids and those new to hip hop, and I appreciate
- 31:23Speaker 1: you for being here, subscribe to the podcast. But being
- 31:29Speaker 1: able to make a record like can't live without my Radio,
- 31:33Speaker 1: Go listen to that. That's the same guy way back
- 31:37Speaker 1: then on this record sounding fresh. Now. As far as
- 31:43Speaker 1: the features, Snoop does a hook, which is cool. I
- 31:48Speaker 1: kind of prefer Q Tip obviously is all over this
- 31:53Speaker 1: album doing different hooks and stuff like that. The Eminem song,
- 31:59Speaker 1: It's It's cool. I think I prefer it lyrically then
- 32:03Speaker 1: as an entire song, because why every time somebody does
- 32:08Speaker 1: a song with Eminem usually probably except for that EPMD
- 32:12Speaker 1: joint or whatever it was that Na's deal with him,
- 32:15Speaker 1: the beat always has to have those Eminem you know,
- 32:18Speaker 1: like evil Carnival beats, Like those are Eminem beats. When
- 32:23Speaker 1: you want to hear Eminem rap some quirky stuff, I
- 32:26Speaker 1: don't want to hear l over that now. Was it
- 32:30Speaker 1: the worst? No, it just didn't fit the rest of
- 32:32Speaker 1: the album. It should have been one of those bonuses
- 32:35Speaker 1: at the end so you can just say, oh, this
- 32:38Speaker 1: is a leftover. It shouldn't have been within the album.
- 32:42Speaker 1: I don't think it fit the album at all. Buster
- 32:47Speaker 1: definitely was dope on here the joint with Rick Ross
- 32:51Speaker 1: and Fat Joe. I feel like Rick Ross and Fat
- 32:54Speaker 1: Joe kind of mess up the vibe of the album
- 32:57Speaker 1: because ll Is established a flow in the concept on
- 33:02Speaker 1: the song, and Rick Ross and Fat Joe just do
- 33:05Speaker 1: Rick Ross and Fat Joe like AI could have did it,
- 33:09Speaker 1: like it, just they didn't really add anything to it.
- 33:13Speaker 1: The one song where I didn't like to beat when
- 33:15Speaker 1: I heard it because I was like, Okay, l L
- 33:18Speaker 1: and NAS on the track for the first time. Let's
- 33:20Speaker 1: get it. Let's hear what this sounds like. And when
- 33:22Speaker 1: I first heard the beat, I was like, why why
- 33:24Speaker 1: would why? Why this one? This is q tips on
- 33:27Speaker 1: the production right until I heard them right first, l
- 33:35Speaker 1: L and I was like, yeah, he kind of floating
- 33:36Speaker 1: on this joint. But then I heard NAS and at
- 33:41Speaker 1: first one I started out, I was like, oh boy,
- 33:43Speaker 1: he about to be out of pocket. We back to
- 33:45Speaker 1: this again, mm hmm. NAS killed his verse, so I
- 33:52Speaker 1: stand corrected. Uh, let me just say what is the
- 33:54Speaker 1: name of the song? Is praising which is dope? The
- 33:58Speaker 1: song with busters called Hughie and it I really like
- 34:00Speaker 1: that joint song Eminem Murder Graham two or two or whatever.
- 34:07Speaker 1: It should have been a guy should have been a
- 34:09Speaker 1: damn bonus record for the most part. And let me
- 34:14Speaker 1: just say this, the last record, the Vow fourteen, I
- 34:18Speaker 1: really like like it's probably the one record where I
- 34:22Speaker 1: think L is definitely displaying a certain level of skill
- 34:28Speaker 1: that's comparable to the rappers you hear today. That record
- 34:32Speaker 1: was impressive and it has features on it. Some couple
- 34:35Speaker 1: of people I've never heard of, to be honest, like
- 34:38Speaker 1: Mad Squabble like but everybody was dope, including all said
- 34:44Speaker 1: it off. So I really like that JOm. I'm gonna
- 34:46Speaker 1: put it on the playlist obviously. The singles are dope.
- 34:52Speaker 1: And I'll say this about the album. I one knock
- 34:55Speaker 1: because this album, for those who don't know, will not
- 34:59Speaker 1: be in my time five of the year because I
- 35:01Speaker 1: think they're probably albums. There are five albums right now
- 35:04Speaker 1: that I think are better. But it will be in
- 35:07Speaker 1: my best of the year because I think it's a
- 35:10Speaker 1: very good album considering this man's legacy and how he
- 35:15Speaker 1: performs today on this project, and the majority of it
- 35:20Speaker 1: is dope. But my knock on this album is I
- 35:24Speaker 1: don't like a lot of the hooks. A lot of
- 35:28Speaker 1: the hooks, and I think it's q Tip's fault. I'm
- 35:34Speaker 1: just guessing because some of them. Q tib says the
- 35:39Speaker 1: hook and it's kind of like offbeat and I'm trying
- 35:43Speaker 1: to vibe with it, but I think some of them
- 35:47Speaker 1: just sound corny. Like there's a lot of tracks on
- 35:51Speaker 1: here with the beat is hot l l's rhyme and
- 35:54Speaker 1: it sounds dope, and then it gets to the hook
- 35:56Speaker 1: and it's like, no, no, no, no, not it. That's
- 36:01Speaker 1: not it. It's kind of like how I used to
- 36:03Speaker 1: feel about Locks albums, thet They'll have a dope beat,
- 36:08Speaker 1: bars to be there in the verses, you get to
- 36:11Speaker 1: the hook and you'll say, why just cross the finish line.
- 36:16Speaker 1: That's how I feel with this album. That's why to me,
- 36:19Speaker 1: it's it's not in the top of I feel like
- 36:22Speaker 1: there's songs that I'm eventually going to skip, even though
- 36:26Speaker 1: I may like the beat and like the verses, because
- 36:31Speaker 1: it just it's just a bummer to hear these hooks
- 36:35Speaker 1: kind of be like and it's not every song, because again,
- 36:38Speaker 1: when I heard the singles, I was like, ll three
- 36:41Speaker 1: for three, four for four, and it's only fourteen songs
- 36:45Speaker 1: on hend but it just happened so much that it
- 36:50Speaker 1: knocks it down a peg for me. But at the
- 36:54Speaker 1: end of the day, I think it's still one of
- 36:56Speaker 1: the best of the year. And that's saying a lot
- 36:58Speaker 1: from two veterans in the hip hop game today, and
- 37:03Speaker 1: that's not necessarily taking all of them, my history with
- 37:06Speaker 1: l and all my history with Q Tip and Tribe
- 37:09Speaker 1: and giving them the good job trophy, because there are
- 37:13Speaker 1: plenty of legends where I'd be like, Yo, this ain't it.
- 37:16Speaker 1: M hmm, this is trash. So job, well done, L
- 37:23Speaker 1: and q Tip? What do you think about L's Cooj's
- 37:27Speaker 1: brand new album, The Force produced by q Tip? Where
- 37:32Speaker 1: you're excited for this album? Do you like it? What
- 37:35Speaker 1: songs do you like? What are the best features on here?
- 37:37Speaker 1: I think I think nah, it's clear the path as
- 37:40Speaker 1: far as Ramen, you know, eminem Rons was dope, but
- 37:43Speaker 1: then the Dark Carnival get like, come on, man, check
- 37:47Speaker 1: Leave your comments in a comments section below. I do
- 37:50Speaker 1: read them, I do respond. And since fifty plus percent
- 37:56Speaker 1: of you watch this show for duncubscribe, why not subscribe now?
- 38:03Speaker 1: If you like it, if you like the content, subscribe
- 38:07Speaker 1: to the podcast. And trying to get to five hundred,
- 38:09Speaker 1: we got thirty more to job. Can we get there
- 38:12Speaker 1: by the end of the year? I think so. It's
- 38:16Speaker 1: kind of bars on boss until next time, y'all. I
- 38:20Speaker 1: am not a critic, I'm a fan. Beace
