- 0:02Speaker 1: Today's variety Big ninety eight point seven. It's Gave and Angie.
- 0:05Speaker 2: We have sun now. I hope it puts up a
- 0:07Speaker 2: good fight.
- 0:08Speaker 1: For the most part, though, we are going to see
- 0:09Speaker 1: some clouds work their way on in and a high
- 0:11Speaker 1: of thirty eight today, and in hospitals around the country.
- 0:16Speaker 2: I just learned this yesterday.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Hospitals around the country music therapists use singing, humming, even
- 0:22Speaker 1: lightly playing guitar, and they've been closely watching babies vital signs.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Do you really do in your research?
- 0:30Speaker 1: I'm that's right coming up this summer at some point,
- 0:34Speaker 1: you know, I'm expecting to be a new dad here,
- 0:36Speaker 1: so I'm learning all kinds of things about babies I
- 0:39Speaker 1: never thought i'd learned before. Now experts say music can
- 0:42Speaker 1: support brain development, improved feeding, and help families bond during
- 0:47Speaker 1: happy times and or tough times. And some parents say
- 0:51Speaker 1: they've even seen steadier monitors and calmer babies during these
- 0:56Speaker 1: kind of music therapy sessions. And it turns out lullays
- 1:00Speaker 1: might be the most powerful medicine.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Good bad, middle boredom, for worse for better.
- 1:06Speaker 1: It's kind of amazing that music therapy with babies at
- 1:09Speaker 1: least is proving too somewhat work.
- 1:12Speaker 3: I think that's so sweet.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Yeah, And so this morning I wanted to know, is
- 1:16Speaker 1: there a song that was really just you were attached
- 1:21Speaker 1: to during a time in your life, whether it was
- 1:23Speaker 1: a happy thing, a sad thing. Maybe you're just bored,
- 1:26Speaker 1: but this song was stuck in your head. Uh, maybe
- 1:29Speaker 1: it helped you during a rough patch. Let us know
- 1:31Speaker 1: about it. At seven oh one two eight zero one
- 1:35Speaker 1: nine eight seven. When I say that, Angie, what's the
- 1:37Speaker 1: first song that would like come to your mind?
- 1:40Speaker 4: Oh gosh, it's I've been singing this song since I
- 1:44Speaker 4: was maybe in my late teens. I'm a huge fan
- 1:48Speaker 4: of mister Rogers and I used to have It's gonna
- 1:53Speaker 4: sound silly, but I used to have a really bad
- 1:55Speaker 4: rage problem. Like I had a lot of I went
- 1:57Speaker 4: through a lot of weird things growing up, and I
- 1:59Speaker 4: had a lot of anger inside me. And mister Rogers
- 2:03Speaker 4: has a song that really helps me harness my rage.
- 2:08Speaker 5: Okay, you do with the mad that you feel when
- 2:12Speaker 5: you feel so mad you could bite, when the whole
- 2:16Speaker 5: wide world seems oh so wrong and nothing you do
- 2:21Speaker 5: seems very right?
- 2:23Speaker 2: Cat do you do?
- 2:25Speaker 5: Do you pounch a bag? Do you pound some clay
- 2:28Speaker 5: or some dough and so what.
- 2:31Speaker 1: You had these lyrics printed off and you'd carry them
- 2:33Speaker 1: around me?
- 2:34Speaker 3: Yep, I would have them in my purse.
- 2:36Speaker 4: And then there's he gets to a verse where he
- 2:39Speaker 4: talks about.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Owning your feelings.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Yeah, and choosing to do something productive instead of choosing
- 2:47Speaker 4: something that is probably a bad choice, sure, just lashing
- 2:53Speaker 4: out in anger. So when I would feel all those
- 2:55Speaker 4: feelings bubble up, I would just pull out my little
- 2:59Speaker 4: lyric sheet and I mean, I have a song memorized,
- 3:01Speaker 4: but something about having like the words in front of me,
- 3:04Speaker 4: and I would sing the song and I would read
- 3:06Speaker 4: the lyrics and it would calm me down.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Gosh, it makes me emotional and it would calm me down.
- 3:12Speaker 4: And it's something that I have passed down to my
- 3:16Speaker 4: kids to help deal with those like big feelings.
- 3:19Speaker 3: When you're a kid, you can have like really big feelings.
- 3:22Speaker 4: And so shout out to the love of my life,
- 3:24Speaker 4: mister Rogers for this song about anger.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Yeah, And there's nothing wrong with feeling those feelings, you know,
- 3:31Speaker 1: it's just harnessing how to use them or get rid
- 3:34Speaker 1: of them or whatever. But yeah, you should feel your
- 3:36Speaker 1: feelings all right. I feel kind of bad because you're
- 3:39Speaker 1: it's like, you know, this emotional thing that happened in
- 3:41Speaker 1: your life, and I guess mine is still kind of
- 3:44Speaker 1: an emotional thing. But I remember when I found out
- 3:48Speaker 1: I was going to be a dad, right, And there
- 3:51Speaker 1: are so many every parent knows, and I would assume
- 3:54Speaker 1: you know, there are so many feelings with that there, boy, happiness, excitement,
- 3:59Speaker 1: your terrified, all these things at the same time. And
- 4:03Speaker 1: when I found out, I couldn't tell anybody, which is
- 4:06Speaker 1: very difficult for me. A.
- 4:08Speaker 2: I don't keep secrets very well.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Yeah, but B I also have this job where you
- 4:14Speaker 1: and I are lucky enough to come here on Big
- 4:16Speaker 1: ninety eight point seven and hang out with people in
- 4:19Speaker 1: their cars or at work or whatever every single day,
- 4:22Speaker 1: and we talk about things that happened in our life. Right,
- 4:25Speaker 1: So I couldn't tell you that for a few months.
- 4:29Speaker 1: I had to hold on to the biggest secret I've
- 4:32Speaker 1: ever had in my life. And I was on a
- 4:35Speaker 1: walk with my dog one day. This was like a
- 4:38Speaker 1: couple of days after I found out I was going
- 4:40Speaker 1: to be a dad, and I could not tell anybody,
- 4:43Speaker 1: and this song came on and I remember I was
- 4:47Speaker 1: just like skipping through the park. I had all this
- 4:50Speaker 1: built up, pent up energy and this song is really
- 4:54Speaker 1: kind of stupid, but it kind of helped called me
- 4:58Speaker 1: down a little bit with all this built up eighty
- 4:59Speaker 1: eight I probably had at the time.
- 5:01Speaker 2: But take a listen to this. You might know it
- 5:03Speaker 2: if you're a Bieber fan.
- 5:06Speaker 6: Turning out a mouse.
- 5:07Speaker 2: God had list magazine.
- 5:15Speaker 6: And something storing me. Gave me and give me an energy.
- 5:19Speaker 1: But you were literally skipping, skipping, walking my dog, hanging
- 5:24Speaker 1: out with Justin Bieber.
- 5:25Speaker 3: This visual is so adorable. You just find out you're
- 5:29Speaker 3: gonna be a dad. You take no Nan a walk
- 5:32Speaker 3: and you're skipping.
- 5:33Speaker 2: To Bieber, literally skip people walk him by. I had
- 5:36Speaker 2: not a care in the world.
- 5:38Speaker 4: This is the most wholesome thing I have ever heard
- 5:41Speaker 4: in my life.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Seven oh one two eight zero one nine eight seven.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Is there a song that you know you just vividly
- 5:48Speaker 1: remember hearing or being attached to during a moment in
- 5:52Speaker 1: your life.
- 5:52Speaker 2: It doesn't have to be a big moment. It could
- 5:54Speaker 2: be a small moment.
- 5:55Speaker 1: It could be something that like Angie used to just
- 5:57Speaker 1: help growing up dealing with maybe some rage or some anger,
- 6:01Speaker 1: or some sadness, or maybe you're skipping in.
- 6:03Speaker 2: The park, you know, I mean.
- 6:09Speaker 6: Millions.
- 6:15Speaker 2: You have Taylor on the phone. Taylor, what's up?
- 6:18Speaker 6: I think you were asking about songs that trigger like
- 6:22Speaker 6: a memory for you.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Yes, that's yours.
- 6:25Speaker 6: I remember very vividly in high school. I was a
- 6:29Speaker 6: swimmer and I would listen to olympuscuit breaks stuff to get.
- 6:35Speaker 2: This is incredible. I mean, you know what we have
- 6:38Speaker 2: to do, right, Taylor?
- 6:39Speaker 7: Oh?
- 6:39Speaker 3: No?
- 6:40Speaker 2: Can can you? Can you give us? Give us a
- 6:42Speaker 2: couple of lots, give us a bar, give us a bar.
- 6:44Speaker 6: Oh I don't know if I could.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I love when we just asked Taylor that no.
- 6:53Speaker 7: Edit the game.
- 6:54Speaker 2: What we were gonna ask, let's do it for Okay.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I think I have this Taylor, This is for you
- 6:59Speaker 1: this morning.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's on. That would get me hype. I want
- 7:12Speaker 2: to run through a brick wall.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Yeah, shog like fifteen Monster Energy drinks so good. If
- 7:19Speaker 1: you miss this speaking of songs that make you feel
- 7:21Speaker 1: something or make you move or groove, I.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Caught you red handed yesterday.
- 7:26Speaker 4: So we were driving home from work and Gabe was
- 7:31Speaker 4: right in front of Mikey and I.
- 7:33Speaker 3: We were driving and you, Gabe, you were jamming out.
- 7:38Speaker 4: You were on a level, just full throttle, like dancing, grooving.
- 7:42Speaker 3: And I pulled out my phone.
- 7:44Speaker 4: I couldn't hear what you were listening to, but you
- 7:47Speaker 4: were vibing, and I pulled out my phone and I
- 7:49Speaker 4: recorded you, and then you caught me recording you in
- 7:52Speaker 4: the rear view and you waved. I didn't know what
- 7:56Speaker 4: you were listening to. I posted this to the Big
- 7:58Speaker 4: ninety eight point seven Facebook page.
- 7:59Speaker 3: There's no sound because I don't know what you were
- 8:02Speaker 3: jamming to.
- 8:02Speaker 4: But I asked people to drop their comments what they
- 8:05Speaker 4: thought you were dancing to a lot of people thought
- 8:08Speaker 4: it was Olivia Dean. Man I need in our car,
- 8:12Speaker 4: we were listening to Aerosmith. Dude looks like a lady,
- 8:16Speaker 4: so like we turned that up and pretended that that's
- 8:18Speaker 4: what you were dancing.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Very fitting, Yeah, but what was it?
- 8:22Speaker 3: What were you actually jamming to?
- 8:24Speaker 4: Was anybody in the comments correct on our Facebook page?
- 8:28Speaker 1: I looked through and there were a lot of Olivia
- 8:32Speaker 1: Dean's on there, and no, that was not the song.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Now those are very good guesses, because I do talk
- 8:38Speaker 1: about how much I love that song, and I've learned
- 8:40Speaker 1: to play that song on the guitar.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Oh Wow.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Maybe one day I'll put.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Together a little video of that for the Big ninety
- 8:45Speaker 1: eight point seven Facebook page. But that was not quite
- 8:49Speaker 1: it and Sarah I had guessed Dancing Queen by Ebba.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Oh that's a good one, great guess, not correct.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Your moves matched it.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Tina, all the single eighties, you know what, there are
- 9:02Speaker 1: some moves in there that probably would sit Yeah, but no,
- 9:06Speaker 1: I wasn't.
- 9:07Speaker 4: You know.
- 9:07Speaker 2: It's funny.
- 9:08Speaker 1: It's not even really like a big giant hype song.
- 9:11Speaker 1: It's like song number five on Justin Bieber's Swag to
- 9:16Speaker 1: his second album.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Oh You're just on a Beeber Biber Run. Yeah, it's uh.
- 9:21Speaker 1: The song is called I Think You're Special and it's
- 9:24Speaker 1: just like a you know, a love song to Haley Bieber.
- 9:27Speaker 3: It's not even but that really had you in your field.
- 9:30Speaker 2: I was vibing. Yeah, I felt good.
- 9:32Speaker 7: You know.
- 9:33Speaker 2: It was a Monday, the sun was out. I just
- 9:35Speaker 2: I left.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I'm in high spirits right now. I was grooving and
- 9:39Speaker 1: it's a monday. Everyone's all, you know, depressed or bombed
- 9:43Speaker 1: or like, oh my god, I gotta go back to work.
- 9:44Speaker 1: And I was like, you know what, I'm grooving on
- 9:46Speaker 1: the way home.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Technically you were leaving work though.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good point.
- 9:51Speaker 4: No, but I encourage you to go see this on
- 9:54Speaker 4: the Big ninety eight point seven Facebook page. You can
- 9:57Speaker 4: set it to any song you like and kind of works.
- 10:02Speaker 6: Ninety eight.
- 10:04Speaker 8: Celebrating life's little victories victory every morning we practice gratitude
- 10:09Speaker 8: on Big ninety eight point seven.
- 10:11Speaker 5: If I could, I would keep this feeling in a
- 10:13Speaker 5: basket joke busted out when it was someone's acting.
- 10:16Speaker 6: Had I just really needed to win? You know?
- 10:18Speaker 8: Sure your little victories with us at seven oh one two,
- 10:21Speaker 8: eight oh one, ninety eight seven.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Angie, do you have a little victory today you're celebrating?
- 10:26Speaker 4: I sure do, Gabe, this one is very exciting to me.
- 10:30Speaker 3: So the Masters, obviously is this weekend.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Yeah, we do get a good run of like some
- 10:36Speaker 1: of the best sporting events of the year with Arch
- 10:38Speaker 1: Madness and the Masters.
- 10:39Speaker 4: Right after you, well, in preparation for that, Mikey, myself
- 10:44Speaker 4: and the kiddo sat down and watched Rory McElroy The
- 10:49Speaker 4: Master's Wait, oh it is that documentary on Prime about
- 10:53Speaker 4: his pursuit of a Master's victory at.
- 10:56Speaker 3: The Augusta National.
- 10:58Speaker 4: Because it had been fourteen years, fourteen years he was
- 11:02Speaker 4: trying to win this thing. Yeah, it is such a
- 11:06Speaker 4: fascinating look into everything that he went through and of it.
- 11:11Speaker 4: Like spoiler, he won last year, so like he waited
- 11:15Speaker 4: and he finally did it. And now me and the
- 11:18Speaker 4: kiddos and mikel we've been watching different fan edits of
- 11:22Speaker 4: the whole thing.
- 11:23Speaker 3: It's just such a good documentary.
- 11:25Speaker 4: And by the end of it, like I was crying,
- 11:28Speaker 4: Mikey was crying, the kids were super invested and want
- 11:31Speaker 4: to be golfers now magical.
- 11:34Speaker 2: I love it.
- 11:35Speaker 4: And I highly recommend in preparation for the Masters this weekend.
- 11:40Speaker 3: That'll really get you in the vibe.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Even if you're not huge into golf, but maybe your
- 11:44Speaker 4: hubby is, watch this documentary and then you'll feel more invested.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent.
- 11:50Speaker 1: It was cool to watch if you're even if you're
- 11:52Speaker 1: not a golf fan, if you're just a sports fan
- 11:54Speaker 1: or kind of a comeback story fan. Yeah, you know,
- 11:57Speaker 1: it really was a fun thing to watch a part of.
- 12:00Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm totally down. I'm totally down to watch
- 12:02Speaker 1: the Masters this week.
- 12:03Speaker 2: It's one of the best times of the year.
- 12:05Speaker 1: You know, Dudes, get like to get vasectoms when March
- 12:07Speaker 1: Madness starts and or when the Masters is on, because
- 12:11Speaker 1: they can't do anything but sit down and just watch
- 12:13Speaker 1: those two events for four days.
- 12:15Speaker 3: I really love that. That's actually very genius.
- 12:18Speaker 1: We did get a text from Abby this morning. See now,
- 12:21Speaker 1: this is my kind of little victory here.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Abby.
- 12:24Speaker 1: We did get a text that says, I just got
- 12:27Speaker 1: these new socks.
- 12:28Speaker 2: O mfg. They're so comfortable.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Eighty percent Alpka wool oh, seventeen percent nylon, and three
- 12:35Speaker 1: percent spandex.
- 12:37Speaker 2: I love these things. I love them so much.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Exclamation point, exclamation point, exclamation point, exclamation point, and one
- 12:43Speaker 1: more exclamation point.
- 12:45Speaker 3: You know what, Gabe really does love a sock vitory.
- 12:48Speaker 2: I love me a sock victory because I have one
- 12:50Speaker 2: every year.
- 12:51Speaker 6: Yep.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Yeah, my little victory is very very nerdy and very small.
- 12:55Speaker 1: But I had talked to a little bit of a
- 12:58Speaker 1: few weeks ago maybe about how I is going to
- 13:00Speaker 1: start playing a lot of chess again. Oh yeah, and
- 13:02Speaker 1: my goal I wanted to try to get to a
- 13:05Speaker 1: one thousand ELO rating. Now, if you don't know what
- 13:08Speaker 1: an ELO rating is, basically it's just what your rating
- 13:13Speaker 1: is in chess. And for example, like I think the
- 13:16Speaker 1: best ELO rating on the planet it's somewhere above like
- 13:19Speaker 1: three thousand, right, It's like, okay, three thousand, three hundred
- 13:23Speaker 1: around that, Like the best chess players on Earth are
- 13:26Speaker 1: around that. And so I had the goal of getting
- 13:29Speaker 1: to one thousand. Well, when you first start, you're just
- 13:31Speaker 1: at one hundred. I mean you start at the bare bones.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Oh okay, I like knowing this scale.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, so now you kind of get where I'm
- 13:38Speaker 1: trying to get to. So one thousand is what I
- 13:41Speaker 1: want to try to get to by the end of
- 13:43Speaker 1: twenty twenty six, and yesterday I got to five hundred,
- 13:47Speaker 1: so I'm halfway there.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:50Speaker 1: So I've been playing a lot, and you know, i'll
- 13:52Speaker 1: win three four games in a row, lose to win
- 13:55Speaker 1: three four lose, you know what I'm saying. So it
- 13:57Speaker 1: really is just this slow, slow, gradual climb. But you
- 14:01Speaker 1: can't climb and if you don't play.
- 14:03Speaker 4: So I have been doing you and my man's together
- 14:06Speaker 4: for a chess date. You know what I'm realizing is
- 14:09Speaker 4: that you and my boyfriend are similar in so many
- 14:13Speaker 4: ways ways.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I kind of hate it, you know.
- 14:17Speaker 1: So there's someone maybe listening, right now who is very
- 14:21Speaker 1: good at chess, you know, and they're like, oh, you're
- 14:22Speaker 1: trying to get to a thousand and that's nothing. Well,
- 14:24Speaker 1: if you get to a thousand, you're for the most part,
- 14:27Speaker 1: like better than most players. Anything above that, like you're
- 14:31Speaker 1: really probably studying and doing you know, puzzles, and you'll
- 14:35Speaker 1: know openings and defensive strat and all these things. And
- 14:38Speaker 1: I don't know if I want to commit that hard,
- 14:40Speaker 1: but maybe when I get to a thousand I will.
- 14:43Speaker 4: Somehow I feel like I'm so bad that they wouldn't
- 14:45Speaker 4: even let me start at a hundred. They'd be like, nah,
- 14:48Speaker 4: you and the negative girls zero.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Late last night, Angie, I was thinking, Man, there's some
- 14:57Speaker 1: individuals who I think just share over share on social media,
- 15:01Speaker 1: which is a very boomer thing.
- 15:03Speaker 2: To say, you know.
- 15:04Speaker 1: And I think when people use okay boomer a lot
- 15:08Speaker 1: of times they mean it as an insult. Yeah, at
- 15:11Speaker 1: thirty five and almost a half years old, I think
- 15:14Speaker 1: I'm starting to agree with these boomers.
- 15:16Speaker 3: And she yeah, no, I feel you.
- 15:20Speaker 4: I find myself in boomer land love in life honestly.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Yeah, when someone older than you starts talking, and it
- 15:28Speaker 1: the sentence begins with, well when I was your age
- 15:31Speaker 1: or back in my day.
- 15:33Speaker 2: You know, you never know what you're gonna hear.
- 15:35Speaker 1: But there are some things where you sit back and
- 15:37Speaker 1: you go, you know what, Grandma and grandpa or maybe
- 15:40Speaker 1: mom or dad.
- 15:41Speaker 2: They were right? Yeah, all along. What's like a boomer
- 15:44Speaker 2: opinion that you agree with?
- 15:46Speaker 1: Let us know it's seven oh one two eight zero
- 15:49Speaker 1: one nine eight seven, like, for example, going to bet it.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I go to bed way too late, but going to
- 15:56Speaker 1: bed at like ten feels pretty good.
- 15:58Speaker 4: Bro, I go to bet it said right, bad bean,
- 16:02Speaker 4: and I love that.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Yeah, going to bed early is what I'll just say, Yes,
- 16:05Speaker 1: it feels pretty nice. What's another like older person there,
- 16:08Speaker 1: boomer opinion you agree with, Angie.
- 16:10Speaker 3: I will die on this hill.
- 16:12Speaker 4: I'm very with you boomers, call me boomeret. I do
- 16:16Speaker 4: not want a QR code for the menu you uh,
- 16:20Speaker 4: I hate I hate it so much, especially because we're
- 16:23Speaker 4: always telling you should pint your phones away. Okay, but
- 16:27Speaker 4: I if I have to use my phone to look
- 16:30Speaker 4: at the menu, yeah, that then I just have the
- 16:32Speaker 4: phone in my hand and then I get distracted.
- 16:34Speaker 3: And no, I want a.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Tangible menu that I can like peruse and then make
- 16:41Speaker 4: it obvious when I set it to the side that
- 16:43Speaker 4: I'm ready to order, right.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I get you're saying yeah, because you know, get off
- 16:48Speaker 1: your phones. Everyone's on their phone as well. If you
- 16:50Speaker 1: got to peruse through your phone to look at the menu,
- 16:52Speaker 1: you're already looking down at its exactly the first second
- 16:55Speaker 1: walk in, and then.
- 16:56Speaker 4: They don't Even the servers sometimes can't tell, like are
- 16:59Speaker 4: you ready to order?
- 17:00Speaker 3: Are you not?
- 17:01Speaker 4: I needed to go back to the day where it
- 17:03Speaker 4: was a tangible item.
- 17:05Speaker 3: I get that.
- 17:06Speaker 4: COVID happened, and I understand where the QR code originated
- 17:11Speaker 4: for menus in that sense, but.
- 17:13Speaker 3: It's six years later.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Okay, we're all using hand sanitizer. It's fine, give me
- 17:19Speaker 4: a physical menu. Not to mention if your WiFi ain't
- 17:24Speaker 4: up to speed. Restaurants sometimes I can't even get to
- 17:28Speaker 4: the QR code.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Yeah, your five g is yes.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Oh my gosh.
- 17:33Speaker 4: I really the more I talk, the more boomer I feel.
- 17:35Speaker 3: But I'll die on that.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Hill, Jacob. I actually like this one a lot. This
- 17:40Speaker 1: is very true. Fix what's broken instead of always buying new.
- 17:46Speaker 3: That's where I give up.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I know if you have like an older unit
- 17:50Speaker 1: of something, an air conditioner, a fridge, a dish, whatever
- 17:54Speaker 1: it is, and you just you're like, all right, we're
- 17:56Speaker 1: just gonna get a new one, which I am guilty
- 17:58Speaker 1: of a lot. There is something about those older things,
- 18:02Speaker 1: and this is the super boomer thing I'm gonna say,
- 18:05Speaker 1: But they don't make them with the same parts that
- 18:08Speaker 1: they used to. You know a lot of times with
- 18:10Speaker 1: those things nowadays, you know, they're just kind of cheap,
- 18:13Speaker 1: not great, not high quality parts. So if you can
- 18:16Speaker 1: fix something that you know was built with some industrial hands, yeah,
- 18:22Speaker 1: it's gonna last a lot longer. I have just won
- 18:25Speaker 1: before we you know, take calls or something. But for me, Angie,
- 18:30Speaker 1: it kind of is a restaurant thing too, or just
- 18:32Speaker 1: a bar. The music is so loud in there, I
- 18:36Speaker 1: can't hear and I'm kind of deaf in my left
- 18:38Speaker 1: that's so boom.
- 18:40Speaker 2: I'm kind of like deaf in my right, like partially
- 18:42Speaker 2: deaf in my right ear.
- 18:43Speaker 1: My left ear is pretty solid for the most part,
- 18:46Speaker 1: but I can't hear anyone at.
- 18:48Speaker 2: My table talking in the in these places. I can't
- 18:51Speaker 2: love that.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Seven oh one two eight zero one nine eight seven.
- 18:54Speaker 1: This is also up on Facebook here. What is you
- 18:57Speaker 1: know a boomer for lack of a better term, opinion
- 19:00Speaker 1: that you go, you know what, Grandma and Grandpa they
- 19:02Speaker 1: were on.
- 19:03Speaker 8: Us and the world of rules in gray areas, one
- 19:08Speaker 8: morning show dares to ask the hard questions.
- 19:10Speaker 2: We both know you guilty, he's guilty. Is it legal?
- 19:14Speaker 5: You're guilty of the worst crime of all.
- 19:17Speaker 8: On Big ninety eight point seven.
- 19:20Speaker 1: If you've ever seen one of those viral videos that
- 19:23Speaker 1: goes viral for all the wrong reasons where the person
- 19:25Speaker 1: being photographed or filmed ends up having a meltdown and
- 19:29Speaker 1: they're really angry and it's all caught on camera and
- 19:32Speaker 1: they're like, you can't film me, Well, congratulations, We are
- 19:37Speaker 1: all basically the paparazzi now here in North Dakota. If
- 19:40Speaker 1: you're out in public, we're talking streets, sidewalks, most public spaces,
- 19:45Speaker 1: there's no expectation of privacy. So yes, taking photos or
- 19:51Speaker 1: video is totally legal. And that includes recording like the
- 19:56Speaker 1: police or government officials while they're doing their jobs out
- 19:59Speaker 1: in public. Oh wow, But and this is a very important,
- 20:02Speaker 1: but you can't be weird about it. You can't block people,
- 20:06Speaker 1: you can't harass them. There's no suddenly becoming like a
- 20:10Speaker 1: human tripod standing in the middle of traffic like you're
- 20:13Speaker 1: shooting a documentary called rush Hour Fargo Edition. Okay, so
- 20:17Speaker 1: legally you're good. Socially, that's between you and the side
- 20:22Speaker 1: eye confused stairs and someone definitely asking are you allowed
- 20:26Speaker 1: to do that?
- 20:26Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 20:27Speaker 1: Interesting the next time you see a viral video where
- 20:29Speaker 1: someone's having a meltdown in it and they're going, you
- 20:32Speaker 1: can't legally film me if you're in a public space,
- 20:36Speaker 1: you definitely can, whichow is kind of creepy in a way.
- 20:40Speaker 2: You like what I did. They're always on time, always there.
- 20:49Speaker 1: When you call just a rule follower right there, it's
- 20:54Speaker 1: also you know, from Jah rules Okay.
- 20:58Speaker 2: I was proud of that for.
- 21:00Speaker 1: The last seventeen years, minus the last ten that I've
- 21:03Speaker 1: been living with my wife. But for the last seventeen years,
- 21:07Speaker 1: I haven't really had a ton of rules to follow,
- 21:09Speaker 1: you know. I've just been you know, I haven't lived
- 21:11Speaker 1: at my parents' house, okay. I have been just kind
- 21:13Speaker 1: of going about life how I see fit, okay, And
- 21:17Speaker 1: I have no idea how to run a household, and
- 21:20Speaker 1: I am trying to get as much of this parenting
- 21:23Speaker 1: family advice as I can possibly get. Leading up until
- 21:26Speaker 1: this summer. So as someone who didn't follow a ton
- 21:30Speaker 1: of rules growing up, I didn't necessarily break them either,
- 21:33Speaker 1: but I really like bending them.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Oh gosh, we are such different people.
- 21:37Speaker 1: So what is a rule in your house that you
- 21:39Speaker 1: believe is actually made your life better?
- 21:42Speaker 2: Let us know.
- 21:42Speaker 1: It's seven oh one two eight zero one nine eight seven.
- 21:45Speaker 1: This is up on Facebook, Angie. Do you have a
- 21:47Speaker 1: rule in your house that you think has really made
- 21:50Speaker 1: things a lot better with maybe your family, your kids
- 21:52Speaker 1: are just you yourself.
- 21:53Speaker 4: Yeah, in the last for the last three years, we
- 21:57Speaker 4: do not go to bed. Yes, we know for certain
- 22:01Speaker 4: that we have gotten in eight hugs throughout the day.
- 22:06Speaker 4: So if Aden and I haven't gotten eight hugs throughout
- 22:09Speaker 4: the day, then we finish them out before Yeah.
- 22:13Speaker 3: I'm the same with Liam.
- 22:15Speaker 4: I know yesterday specifically, Liam and I had three hugs
- 22:19Speaker 4: throughout the day and then right before bedtime, I realized, well,
- 22:22Speaker 4: we got five to go.
- 22:24Speaker 3: And it's just a nice way to end to end
- 22:27Speaker 3: the day.
- 22:27Speaker 4: And it's the signal that Okay, mommy's going to bed
- 22:31Speaker 4: because I go to bed two hours earlier than the
- 22:33Speaker 4: kids do. But it's nice, it's a it sets the
- 22:36Speaker 4: tone for a calm, nice, lovely night.
- 22:39Speaker 3: So that's the house rule. Always hugs or you can't
- 22:42Speaker 3: go to bed.
- 22:43Speaker 2: That's adorable.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I think that's pretty cute, and that's just a nice
- 22:47Speaker 1: way to go to bed, even if you've had a
- 22:49Speaker 1: bad day, good day, whatever.
- 22:50Speaker 2: With the kids.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Note, yes, that's very important in our household.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Well, here's a household rule that I've made up, and
- 22:58Speaker 1: it's strictly for my cats. Doesn't really do this a ton,
- 23:01Speaker 1: but my cats all the time. I let them know, Hey,
- 23:04Speaker 1: you know what, glittens, you can cry. That's fine, if
- 23:08Speaker 1: you got to shed some tears, totally cool. Yeah, but
- 23:11Speaker 1: you can't whine. I Am not gonna sit here and
- 23:13Speaker 1: listen to you whine. Go do that in the other room.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Now they're cats.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Do they listen?
- 23:17Speaker 1: Absolutely not. But I feel like I'm prepping for something bigger.
- 23:21Speaker 4: No, Honestly, I think that is a good rule for kids. Yeah,
- 23:25Speaker 4: because I've never said it in those terms, which I
- 23:28Speaker 4: will now.
- 23:29Speaker 3: But there are times when the kids are whining and
- 23:32Speaker 3: I'm like, I don't want to hear that. I don't
- 23:33Speaker 3: want to hear it.
- 23:34Speaker 4: But I also want them to be able to feel
- 23:35Speaker 4: their feelings, so i'd say it exactly how you did.
- 23:38Speaker 3: You can cry, but you can't whine.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Yeah, Caitlin said, running the dishwasher every single night. I
- 23:43Speaker 1: love this, no matter how many dishes are in there
- 23:46Speaker 1: that way, if anyone has any questions, the dishes are clean,
- 23:50Speaker 1: put them away, or you can just use them.
- 23:52Speaker 2: I guess I'm assuming she wants them put away.
- 23:54Speaker 1: That's smart atally, Joanne said, no phones in the front
- 23:58Speaker 1: seat of the car when the kids are in the
- 24:00Speaker 1: passenger seat. We talk, thankful that the three kids would
- 24:04Speaker 1: still fight to be in the front seat chatting with me.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Do you remember that girl up?
- 24:08Speaker 3: That's so sweet?
- 24:09Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 24:09Speaker 3: Well calling shotgun right, yeah?
- 24:11Speaker 2: Do you remember that?
- 24:12Speaker 1: You know, it is kind of sad, and we've gone
- 24:13Speaker 1: down a lot of nostalgia and nostalgic moments here today.
- 24:16Speaker 2: It is kind of sad.
- 24:17Speaker 1: At one point you and your older brother or younger
- 24:19Speaker 1: sister fought over who was gonna sit in the front seat,
- 24:22Speaker 1: and then one day it just kind of ended.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Is that a ton of sund Yes?
- 24:25Speaker 3: Why are you trying to make me cry?
- 24:28Speaker 1: Bev added, breakfast together, supper together most nights, no phones
- 24:32Speaker 1: or TV during meals, and then of course homework before
- 24:35Speaker 1: a fun time. I really liked that they eat dinner
- 24:37Speaker 1: together as a family. I think that's pretty cool. I
- 24:39Speaker 1: grew up doing that.
- 24:41Speaker 4: I did not grow up doing that. I was a
- 24:43Speaker 4: latchkey kid, so we kind of ate dinner whenever. That
- 24:46Speaker 4: is something I'm trying to implement in my home, but
- 24:48Speaker 4: I am the culprit for not making it happen. The
- 24:51Speaker 4: boys will sit at the dinner table, and then Mikey
- 24:53Speaker 4: will join sometimes, and I like.
- 24:56Speaker 3: To eat in the living room on the TV tray, im.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Being so too ball And then I have two more
- 25:02Speaker 1: for you here, Angie. This is a great one. Whoever
- 25:05Speaker 1: doesn't cook does the post meal kitchen clean up. That
- 25:08Speaker 1: is one of the first sayings or parentisms that I
- 25:12Speaker 1: remember my dad saying growing up is the cook doesn't
- 25:15Speaker 1: do the dishes, or the cook doesn't clean We grew
- 25:18Speaker 1: up with that a lot. So once in a while
- 25:20Speaker 1: I try to fight over trying to make the meal,
- 25:21Speaker 1: and my mom would immediately put an end of that
- 25:23Speaker 1: because it was trash. And then Josh, I'm glad you've
- 25:27Speaker 1: changed your ways. Josh says he wears pants. Now what Well,
- 25:32Speaker 1: that's great news, Josh. I hope you continue doing this.
- 25:37Speaker 3: I need some good.
- 25:40Speaker 8: Starting off the day with something good. This is Gabe's
- 25:44Speaker 8: good News on Big ninety eight point seven.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Shelda Warren is now ninety eight years old, and she
- 25:52Speaker 1: is being honored for her groundbreaking role at Minnesota State
- 25:56Speaker 1: University Moorhead as the first woman to earn a master's
- 26:01Speaker 1: degree in nineteen fifty five.
- 26:04Speaker 3: Wow.
- 26:05Speaker 2: After World War Two, shelled us.
- 26:07Speaker 1: She left Borap, Minnesota and headed off to college.
- 26:10Speaker 2: And she had to pay for it somehow. And here's
- 26:12Speaker 2: how she did it.
- 26:13Speaker 7: I resigned to build bikes. You could buy You could
- 26:16Speaker 7: get old frames from the dump at that time, and
- 26:19Speaker 7: you could buy other pieces. So I built bicycles and
- 26:23Speaker 7: sold them and that paid for my tuition college.
- 26:27Speaker 1: And this was at a time when career options for
- 26:29Speaker 1: women were limited, and she pursued teaching and went on
- 26:33Speaker 1: to spend decades as a math instructor at the university.
- 26:36Speaker 1: I wish I would have met Shelled a long time ago.
- 26:38Speaker 1: I probably could have used some help.
- 26:40Speaker 2: What a BADDI Yeah. Shell.
- 26:42Speaker 1: The continued teaching and mentoring into her nineties, and she
- 26:46Speaker 1: also created a scholarship for future educators. She says becoming
- 26:50Speaker 1: a teacher was the best decision decision she ever made,
- 26:53Speaker 1: and she credits her lifelong passion for students and learning.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I'll tell you what, here's a lady who wanted to
- 27:00Speaker 1: and you know what, she went out and did it.
- 27:01Speaker 4: I love this so much. She absolutely deserves this honor.
- 27:05Speaker 4: And you know, a big ninety eight point seven, we
- 27:07Speaker 4: stand an educator.
- 27:09Speaker 1: And you know my favorite quote, broken craons, they still color.
- 27:12Speaker 1: And the world is full of nice people. If you
- 27:14Speaker 1: can't find one, you gotta be one.
- 27:16Speaker 8: Big ninety
