- 0:00Oh, hey, I'm morning there.
- 0:02So we have a new Sophie in the studio.
- 0:07You look kind of like Sophie.
- 0:08Got the hair.
- 0:09Yeah, younger version.
- 0:10Got the monitor.
- 0:11No, Sophie is away this week.
- 0:12And I was like, you know what?
- 0:14I can hold the fort myself.
- 0:16We like set up the studio and there's just an armchair
- 0:18in the middle of the room.
- 0:19And I'm obviously behind the camera.
- 0:21And I was like, is this going to be a bit weird for you?
- 0:23Just like talking on your own,
- 0:24but then you just got somebody staring at you from the other side.
- 0:26So I was like, jump on in.
- 0:28You know what?
- 0:29So I might be out of a job.
- 0:30Hiding on how well you do stand up to.
- 0:31Ooh, what shall Sophie?
- 0:32Yeah.
- 0:33It's quite funny.
- 0:34She's meant to be having like a proper week off.
- 0:35She's gone to cabin in the woods.
- 0:37Yeah.
- 0:38And the entire week she's been messaging us.
- 0:40I know, I know.
- 0:41I'm like, I'm like, go be in the woods.
- 0:43Be at one with nature.
- 0:44I was actually talking to someone.
- 0:45I was like, I think I would go crazy.
- 0:47Really?
- 0:48I think I could do like a love time to myself.
- 0:50Yes.
- 0:51But a weekend is one, you know, two days is enough for me.
- 0:54Yeah.
- 0:55A whole week.
- 0:56I would probably spiral.
- 0:57Yeah.
- 0:58Even after a few hours at the weekend, I'm like, I need to see someone.
- 1:01Yeah.
- 1:02I always think like I would really struggle in prison.
- 1:03You know?
- 1:04Well, let's hope you know together.
- 1:05I mean, unless you got something to sell us.
- 1:07All day, every day.
- 1:08Yeah.
- 1:09You know, on my own.
- 1:10Yeah.
- 1:11That's why you don't want to go.
- 1:12Yeah.
- 1:13That is why.
- 1:14Yeah.
- 1:15It's the only reason.
- 1:16No, but you know, like when COVID and everyone had to do those, um, those like two week.
- 1:21Oh, yeah.
- 1:22Yeah.
- 1:23Stays in hotels.
- 1:24I honestly.
- 1:25Yeah.
- 1:26Yeah.
- 1:27Oh, I get a little claustrophobic.
- 1:28And I think, yeah, or I get really gross and just like watching it flex and order.
- 1:31Make ways.
- 1:32Yeah.
- 1:33And roll out of there.
- 1:34And just resize as bigger and just go a bit more.
- 1:36Not a bit of hermity.
- 1:37Yeah.
- 1:38Really gross.
- 1:39Um, but anyway, thanks for my match.
- 1:40Oh, no problem.
- 1:41Cheers.
- 1:42Cheers.
- 1:43Yes.
- 1:44Mm, mm, mm.
- 1:45For those who aren't watching.
- 1:46Yeah.
- 1:47Or, first of all, get on YouTube as you will see what we're drinking.
- 1:49Speaking of all, there's a reason we're drinking matcha.
- 1:51Oh, tell me.
- 1:52Yeah.
- 1:53There is a matcha boom happening right now.
- 1:55And I mean, most people are like old news, but like I know, you know, you can see like
- 2:00a lot of like we're drinking it.
- 2:02Yeah.
- 2:03There's a lot of cafes popping up on the side of the road that are, you know, just
- 2:06matcha only.
- 2:07There is, you know, it's a big craze on social media as well, but it's actually coming
- 2:12through in like statistics, particularly in the UK and I mean, this is globally everywhere,
- 2:17but in June and July, matcha sales doubled versus last year, and there is three times
- 2:24so triple the amount of cafes serving matcha now than there was last year.
- 2:29Wow.
- 2:30I feel like you would be an idiot if you're a cafe, not to serve matcha.
- 2:33Everyone loves it.
- 2:34Exactly.
- 2:35And it's high.
- 2:36It's all because of obviously the health, health and wellness benefits and all of that,
- 2:38but there's anti-oxidants.
- 2:40It's like a slow release caffeine, like it's, yeah, it's a healthy alternative to caffeine
- 2:46essentially.
- 2:47That's what I saw everyone.
- 2:48So you're right.
- 2:49Like you'd be absolutely stupid and all the old, established, stale kind of coffee brands,
- 2:55like the costars and like, you know, like all those like ones that have been at Starbucks
- 2:59and they're not free, but yeah, have you only like literally just jumped on the bandwagon?
- 3:04What?
- 3:05I know.
- 3:06That's crazy.
- 3:07But also like, would you buy my chafrum?
- 3:08No.
- 3:09No, you want to go to a lovely little individual.
- 3:10Like blank street.
- 3:11Like that brand that's popping up everywhere.
- 3:13Yeah.
- 3:14There's also another one in London at the moment that everybody's going wild over elevate.
- 3:16I think it's called elevate.
- 3:17Oh, my gosh.
- 3:18Yeah.
- 3:19Yeah.
- 3:20Yeah.
- 3:21Yeah.
- 3:22Who was, who heard on the podcast?
- 3:23Well, that episode is actually coming out this week.
- 3:25Yeah.
- 3:26Strips themselves in.
- 3:27It's going to be a goody.
- 3:28Yeah.
- 3:29She, she went there and she was like, it's the hero one of, like, a hero one of London.
- 3:34Hero ones.
- 3:35Hero one.
- 3:36I'm like saying.
- 3:37Hero one.
- 3:38Connection.
- 3:39It's like this, uh, bougie, uh, deli cafe chain in America and it's, okay.
- 3:44I do the hailey bella beba smoothies and like all the celebs have there like, you know,
- 3:47okay.
- 3:48It's popped off and it's absolutely ridiculous, expensive, like 20 US for a thing of
- 3:53berries.
- 3:54Like it's insane.
- 3:55Oh, god.
- 3:56It's, it's got this hype.
- 3:57Yeah.
- 3:58It's kind of blown off on the old socials.
- 3:59Um, but this is kind of a bigger thing I wanted to talk about because it's something we spoke
- 4:04about in the club as well.
- 4:06And we've started this semi new segment about what's, what's in my head?
- 4:09And it's like the trends.
- 4:11The trends that you see, well, trends that I see and that, you know, are they part of
- 4:16a bigger, a bigger thing or like, and this is a really, really great example.
- 4:20And we spoke about in the club about experiences being a really big thing for Gen Z in particular
- 4:27and Gen Alpha and, oh, yeah, the other one before that one is, but yeah, but the younger generation.
- 4:34And it's because actual experiences are becoming quite expensive.
- 4:38Yeah.
- 4:39So like a mucher, even though, yeah, okay, even though much is expensive for like a daily
- 4:46coffee, you can, you can compete with daily coffee price.
- 4:49They're Instagramable.
- 4:50They're an experience.
- 4:51You can get like blueberry flavored ones.
- 4:53You can get, you know, like, they're fun, they're cool, they look great, they're great
- 4:57green.
- 4:58Exactly.
- 4:59And there's this whole boom in like Instagramable food and drink and much is like very much
- 5:04in that and it's because or that the younger generation, that's an experience that you
- 5:11go out and get like a really incredible dessert or really incredible food experience and
- 5:17it's like that you've probably seen on Instagrams that you want to be a part of.
- 5:21That's so funny.
- 5:22That is honestly the whole conversation that you guys had with Maddie, Gen Z's and Gen
- 5:26Alpha's and all the rest of them can't afford to go off, save for a big Euro summer.
- 5:31So instead, they're doing the little luxuries and yeah, I see that with my friends.
- 5:35Yeah, and I know it's like sometimes annoying when I don't know, there's a new restaurant
- 5:38where a new cafe and then all of a sudden it's on TikTok or you think you've discovered
- 5:43something and you go there and it's like, there's a queue around the corner and I'm like,
- 5:46oh god, I did that.
- 5:48Where was I?
- 5:49I was on holiday somewhere and yeah, I was like, oh, this place, I've heard about it.
- 5:53Me, such a millenial thing.
- 5:55Turned the corner.
- 5:56I was in Tokyo, yeah, turned the corner.
- 5:59And it was just like my parents, I was with my parents, they were like, you're kidding.
- 6:04Like, absolutely not.
- 6:05We're not waiting this queue.
- 6:06Oh my god.
- 6:07I felt like such a kid.
- 6:08Yeah.
- 6:09But yeah, this is all, yeah, playing into these experiences and it's a huge train right
- 6:16now.
- 6:17It was yeah, it's something we spoke about in the club a while ago now.
- 6:20There are actually much companies that you can invest in as well.
- 6:22Oh, okay.
- 6:23Yeah, in Japan in particular.
- 6:24Okay.
- 6:25I feel like with every opportunity, there's like, you know, there's always risks, things
- 6:31to be aware of.
- 6:32And I think because this is so hyped as well, when there's such demand for something and
- 6:37supply struggles to keep up, like the green tea leaves essentially a really struggling
- 6:41to keep up.
- 6:42Oh, okay.
- 6:43And so everyone's like, oh, there's going to be a spike in price of matches.
- 6:48Well, that's what I was going to kind of ask because you talk a lot about like, it's
- 6:51a good indicator of how the economy is doing by the price of coffee beans.
- 6:55Yes.
- 6:56And especially when there's loads of droughts and climate change is ramping up, then the
- 7:01price of coffee goes like sky high.
- 7:03Yeah.
- 7:04And everything becomes more expensive.
- 7:06Is it the same with match?
- 7:07I guess.
- 7:08Yeah, it is.
- 7:09And I mean, match is already like a premium price, right?
- 7:11But it's like, yeah, there's talks that like there's going to be even, it's going to be
- 7:14even more expensive.
- 7:15Oh, okay.
- 7:16But then coffee's also grown up on price.
- 7:18But coffee's now, like so, those stats that I said that June and July, match are sales,
- 7:24doubling.
- 7:25The sales of that white, lighter and cappuccino has gone backwards.
- 7:28Oh, yeah.
- 7:29Have you actually ever seen that happen though?
- 7:31Like, have you ever been to a cafe and you've noticed that the price has gone down?
- 7:34Sorry, I mean, sales.
- 7:35Sales are so determined.
- 7:36Oh, sorry.
- 7:37But that's the next phase, right?
- 7:38Is then, well, obviously, if the demand's not there, then the prices can come down.
- 7:41So it's like, yeah.
- 7:42Okay.
- 7:43Whereas matches will keep on going.
- 7:44Yeah, matches will keep on going.
- 7:45And then obviously you get more have a serving matcher, so then there's more supply.
- 7:50I mean, it's all about the tea leaves, but you know, if you do have essentially more
- 7:55supply or more farmers will start converting their farms to green tea leaves and then that
- 8:01price kind of like levels out a bit more.
- 8:03Got too demanded to buy kind of work a bit more harm on how many of the yes, yes, yes,
- 8:09then yeah, but yeah, it's a craze.
- 8:13It's a boom.
- 8:14Yeah.
- 8:15Love matcher.
- 8:16I reckon it'll be like sushi, though, you know, for dinner, you know, it was probably just
- 8:20like every street corner.
- 8:22Yeah, it's everywhere.
- 8:23Yeah, but we're all like, oh my gosh.
- 8:25Yeah, but then by the time they kind of become our age or it's a bit like, we're over
- 8:30it.
- 8:31Yeah.
- 8:32We're on to the next episode.
- 8:33It's like same peers like the whole.
- 8:34Yeah.
- 8:35I mean, sushi.
- 8:36Jog on.
- 8:37Yes.
- 8:38Anyway, thank you for my matcher.
- 8:39Oh, no problem.
- 8:40No worries.
- 8:41Yes.
- 8:43Donald Trump.
- 8:44I honestly, I'm like, is there a week we don't talk about him?
- 8:48Oh, he's got a lot of that time.
- 8:49He has got so much ear time.
- 8:51I think he loves it.
- 8:53He came out.
- 8:54No, no, he hates it.
- 8:55Yeah, he can't stand the long night.
- 8:57Yeah, yeah, yeah, true.
- 8:58You become present.
- 8:59You're like, oh, no, no, I'm really.
- 9:00I'm really.
- 9:01I'm really.
- 9:02I'm sorry.
- 9:03I said really camera show.
- 9:04But no, he came out last week and announced a changes to these H1B visas.
- 9:09Now these are visas for like H1B, sounds complex, but it's like for highly skilled people.
- 9:13So people in like the tech industry in particular, doctors, like very highly skilled people can
- 9:19get these visas to allow them to work in America.
- 9:22And he came out with an announcement that he is going to increase the price of those
- 9:27visas by 50 fold, so they're going from $2,000 US dollars ish to $100,000 US dollars.
- 9:37The price of the visa, the price of the visa.
- 9:39So like, for example, if we at the curve were like, look, we really need a really really
- 9:43highly skilled tech person and we were in the US and we were like, look, there's some
- 9:47great people in India, or in China, and Canada, yeah, we wanted to bring them in.
- 9:52We would have to pay a minimum of 100 grand.
- 9:55Oh my gosh.
- 9:56And their salary.
- 9:57Okay.
- 9:58Yeah.
- 9:59So like anyone, so there was this complete night of chaos last week, because these big
- 10:02corporates were like, nobody travel.
- 10:04They run on those visas.
- 10:05They're like, do not travel, do not leave the country, because you know, we don't know
- 10:09what's happening.
- 10:10Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:11People that were overseas like jumped on flights to come home.
- 10:13Like it was chaos.
- 10:14Like I've seen videos of announcements on aircrafts being like, hey, this has been the
- 10:17change for anyone's on this visa, like, no.
- 10:20And so then he kind of backtracked and said, okay, it's only for any new applicants, not
- 10:26people who are already on them.
- 10:27So there was a bit of a like, oh, okay, but this is a big, big, big if you, India.
- 10:34Yeah.
- 10:35Because India makes up, well, Indians make up 70% of the H1V visas in America.
- 10:41Oh my God.
- 10:42Yeah.
- 10:43Why is he doing that?
- 10:44So just to keep everybody just, okay, he's like, well, if you need skilled people, look
- 10:48at America.
- 10:49Yeah.
- 10:50Not Indians or Chinese or, you know, and it's like, I feel like he's shooting himself
- 10:54in the first.
- 10:55I agree.
- 10:56Because you know what happened?
- 10:57UK, Canada, Germany.
- 10:58Everyone was like, hey, we don't come to visit like, we'll take on some incredible
- 11:04intelligent, highly skilled tech people.
- 11:06Exactly.
- 11:07No problemo.
- 11:08Exactly.
- 11:09And.
- 11:10Oh God.
- 11:11And this is a short term impact, but the bigger impact is going to be much more long term.
- 11:17When, if you have a very highly skilled Indian, for example, that is like, well, it's
- 11:22not viable to go to the US anymore, I'm going to go to the UK.
- 11:26And then all of those skills, that innovation, that like, you know, it's not going to happen
- 11:31overnight.
- 11:32No.
- 11:33It's going to trickle years over years and then, yeah.
- 11:36Okay.
- 11:37So fine.
- 11:38Trump, go for it.
- 11:39Go for it.
- 11:40Yeah.
- 11:41But also, I do feel for, you know, all those people that may have maybe been about to get
- 11:45a job offer or a settle down with their family and have like, got an amazing opportunity.
- 11:50And now it's like, oh, yeah, you're going to have to pay double.
- 11:52I'm sorry.
- 11:53And like, Amazon Microsoft Meta Apple, they're the biggest users of this, these H1B
- 11:59users.
- 12:00Yeah.
- 12:01And so, which kind of surprises me because I'm like, you know what?
- 12:04You just had a dinner with all of those tech leaders, you know, they're in your pocket.
- 12:09And I can see why now.
- 12:10Yeah.
- 12:11What do you mean they had a dinner?
- 12:12Sorry.
- 12:13They had, um, Trump.
- 12:14There was some dinner.
- 12:15Okay.
- 12:16And Trump was there.
- 12:17And so I was Mark Zuckerberg.
- 12:18And so I was like, you know, like, all the kids of these tech companies.
- 12:21Yeah.
- 12:22And I reckon it's because of stuff like this.
- 12:23Yeah.
- 12:24They know it's like, what's that?
- 12:25Oh.
- 12:26Keep your friends close and your enemies close.
- 12:27Yeah.
- 12:28I honestly think it's this.
- 12:30And like, or, or, you know, there's more things like this, probably that they might think
- 12:36might happen.
- 12:37So they're like, you know what?
- 12:39Let's be in bed, I don't know, with, with Trump.
- 12:42Yeah.
- 12:43So I'm like, you know what?
- 12:44This is a big FUDA India China makes up 12% as well.
- 12:48So an FUDA China, an FUDA the big tech companies, but also the 6% of the US physicians.
- 12:56So like doctors and, yeah, they are made up by Indian doctors.
- 13:00So like, there's going to be a huge hole.
- 13:02It's going to be doctors.
- 13:03It's going to, yeah.
- 13:04Oh, I can see why he's doing it, but I think that's not the way to do it.
- 13:08That's just, yeah.
- 13:09So seconding.
- 13:10But then also I'm like, you know what?
- 13:11There is, he does a lot of things like this, right, where it's like, he loves the, he
- 13:17loves the PR in the chaos, ending scales at right back, you know, when he moves back on
- 13:22his word.
- 13:23So I remember you saying something a while ago, I was like, oh shit, yeah, I might drop
- 13:26moment.
- 13:27Yeah.
- 13:28Where he will come out with something like this, make a big song and dance about it, but
- 13:31it's actually to cover up something else that he's doing.
- 13:34Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:35And it's going to be a devastating blow I reckon to US innovation, competitiveness, all
- 13:43of that.
- 13:44But that's the, that's who's in power and unfortunately, we have to buckle up.
- 13:48Yeah.
- 13:49Speaking of large tech companies, oh, it's actually done.
- 13:53But those that don't know that really struggle in their segues, yeah, really struggle with
- 13:57the segues.
- 13:58You're getting faster though.
- 13:59We need a jingle.
- 14:00Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:02The biggest company in the world, the biggest public company in a video.
- 14:06Oh, yes.
- 14:07Oh.
- 14:08And the biggest startup.
- 14:09Okay.
- 14:10Do you know what that is?
- 14:11Open AI.
- 14:12Yeah.
- 14:13Yeah.
- 14:14The biggest startup in the biggest public company have announced the biggest private
- 14:21investment deal.
- 14:22So they, it's a hundred billion dollar deal that Nvidia is going to invest in open AI
- 14:28to, for open AI to effectively purchase its AI chips.
- 14:34So it's like this weird circular deal, okay, but it's, I guess the, the, the details of
- 14:40the deal is kind of not what I'm focusing on.
- 14:43It's more this, the fact that this is like the biggest private deal ever, or a hundred
- 14:50billion dollars, yes, Nvidia's market cap.
- 14:54So like the size of the company is four trillion.
- 14:56So it's like, oh my, get it, get it.
- 14:58It's a super cent of the market, but still, I think it's just the scale of it.
- 15:03Like I just feel like every other week, there is like this is, you know, there's just
- 15:08there's monumental blockbuster deals happening with regards to AI, and there was another
- 15:15stat that I read that they were going to need 500 billion dollars of investment in the
- 15:20next, each year for the next five years.
- 15:22And this is only 100 billion, you know, like this is the scale of this is just insane.
- 15:26We had last week, Oracle came out and announced it had done a deal with open AI.
- 15:34That was like absolutely massive and like, stop the lights out in terms of their revenue
- 15:39for the year.
- 15:40Like it's just headlines of this.
- 15:42Yeah.
- 15:43Okay.
- 15:44So basically, this is just the beginning.
- 15:45Yeah.
- 15:46Yeah.
- 15:47And that's the fact that they're investing this, you know, over over the next kind of
- 15:49five, seven years, it's like, this, yeah, this is the tip of the iceberg.
- 15:53Well, okay.
- 15:54And I know a lot of people might disagree and be like, no, the fact that there is so much
- 15:58investment in this every week, there's a new headline and new company like that means
- 16:03it's kind of over hyped or it creates risk because what if the demand doesn't come?
- 16:09But I'm like, these are stupid companies, right?
- 16:10This is not like, they're not investing in this without, so it's like, yeah, yeah.
- 16:17So we had an incredible conversation with net from Google.
- 16:22Oh my gosh.
- 16:23Yeah.
- 16:24So yeah, I literally edited this yesterday and all my flip in God, it was so good.
- 16:29And she's like the chief technologist at Google, which I can't even pretend to know
- 16:33what she does, but she is so smart.
- 16:36I was hanging on her every word, she had so many insights, it just made me so excited
- 16:41for what's to come.
- 16:42And I think the, yeah, having like an expert who is so deep all day, every day in AI gave
- 16:48me a lot more excitement, I guess, in terms of what's to come.
- 16:51Yeah.
- 16:52Yeah.
- 16:53And some ideas in terms of the kinds of things that you could be investing in.
- 16:56Exactly.
- 16:57Sometimes I feel like with Nvidia, I have, like, no, like, I've invested in it.
- 17:02Yeah.
- 17:03And I want to keep on investing in it.
- 17:04But then I'm like, oh, it, and then when it deal like that comes there, I'm like, everybody's
- 17:07going to be jumping on that bandwagon.
- 17:09Yeah.
- 17:10And now I'm like, okay, what are the other ones in the sidelines that you can invest in?
- 17:12And that chat was just so, because it's all about the like, there's so many other companies
- 17:16that are going to benefit in the value chain, right?
- 17:18It's not just, even though when we talk about Nvidia, it's like the AI poster child.
- 17:22It's like the one, you know, if you say AI and people like Nvidia, you know, it's very,
- 17:26so it synopsis, no synonymous synonymous with synopsis, it's very synonymous, it's like
- 17:33a summary of a book.
- 17:34Yeah, it synopsis.
- 17:35Oh, yeah.
- 17:36Yeah.
- 17:37Yeah.
- 17:38They go in, they go in tandem, like, yeah, okay.
- 17:40But yeah, I just think it's like, there's just so many headlines that I'm saying about
- 17:44these incredible deals.
- 17:46And I think we are just at the beginning, you know what I'm saying?
- 17:49Sheperdamas.
- 17:50Yeah.
- 17:51Yeah.
- 17:52But also another, another boom that's happening outside of the tech industry is, and some
- 17:59people might not agree with this, and that's fine, is, but it's in the healthcare space.
- 18:04Okay.
- 18:05And it's these GLP1 proteins, so the GLP1 is the weight loss, the weight loss protein,
- 18:12that I'm looking for.
- 18:13Okay.
- 18:14This is like protein.
- 18:15I mean, it's, the healthcare work industry always is protein, but it's not like protein,
- 18:17like we know it's like a makeup of like molecules.
- 18:20Okay.
- 18:21It's not a healthcare expert, but anyway, it's a, it's a, it's a technology, essentially,
- 18:26but inside is un-pick.
- 18:27Yes.
- 18:28Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:29Okay.
- 18:30Yeah.
- 18:31So Zempek is like the, the probably the, the more household name that we know for these
- 18:33weight loss drugs.
- 18:34Yeah.
- 18:35But Pfizer, so one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies, they have just made a massive
- 18:41acquisition of a company to purchase their weight loss drug for $7 billion.
- 18:50And this is quite interesting, because Pfizer tried to join the race.
- 18:55So you've got these two big pharmaceutical companies, Novo Nordus, and Eli Lilly are
- 19:00the two kind of, um, marines, yeah, the ones that have kind of been dominating the space.
- 19:05They've got the two most common weight loss drugs out there.
- 19:09Yeah.
- 19:10And now Pfizer's just bought this company and entered the race, essentially.
- 19:16Oh, okay.
- 19:17So there's a third.
- 19:18So there's a third.
- 19:19Yes.
- 19:20So there's called Met, Met Sarah, Met Sarah, Met Sarah, the company that it bought.
- 19:24Okay.
- 19:25And it's sheer price was up 60% in one day.
- 19:26Oh my goodness.
- 19:27It was like, we're going to buy you.
- 19:28Thank you very much.
- 19:29Wow.
- 19:30Wow.
- 19:31And I guess what is a headline like this tell us?
- 19:35And for me, it says, if you've got another third, very large player entering a market, they
- 19:43must see the opposite potential, otherwise they wouldn't be purchasing a $7 billion.
- 19:49They wouldn't be paying $7 billion to purchase a company or purchase a drug that is company
- 19:53owns.
- 19:54Okay.
- 19:55If they didn't see the potential in this, this whole industry, right?
- 19:57Well, this whole, not really industry, this whole technology.
- 20:00Yeah.
- 20:01Okay.
- 20:02But yeah, what this tells me is you now have Pfizer who kind of made its, made its mark with
- 20:10Viagra, really.
- 20:11Oh, that was the kind of big blockbuster drug for Pfizer.
- 20:15Okay.
- 20:16And now they're, they're late to the party in the sense that there's still, there's
- 20:20two front runners, but the growth and again, like even with AI and we're seeing all these
- 20:26ridiculous numbers out there, we're seeing exactly the same in the healthcare space with
- 20:30these GLP one.
- 20:31Yes.
- 20:32Yeah.
- 20:33Okay.
- 20:34Does that make you worried?
- 20:35Do you mean worried and like the state of the world?
- 20:40No, because I guess I get what you mean.
- 20:43It worries me because there is a minority, kind of an increasing majority of people that
- 20:49are using them not for their agenda purposes, but I think the, the positives of what it can
- 20:55do for the people that actually need it, but also now we're starting to see that it's
- 21:02actually helping with addictions, cravings, like, oh, no, alcohol addiction, drug abuse.
- 21:08Okay.
- 21:09I think I don't, I'm not a healthcare expert, but I think it does something with like,
- 21:14like for weight loss, it switches off the like craving mechanism, so I think they can
- 21:21alter it slightly to help switch off the like craving for a cigarette of eight.
- 21:27Yeah.
- 21:28Yeah, yeah.
- 21:29All of that.
- 21:30Yeah, they've got like opioids, other addictive substances, like and they've actually
- 21:32seen it reduce alcohol intake as well.
- 21:35Wow.
- 21:36Okay, that's actually quite amazing.
- 21:39Not indirect benefits, but like they kind of launch this base drug and then they're like,
- 21:43oh, hang on.
- 21:44Yeah.
- 21:45Actually, what we thought we would market it for is just opened up a whole new universe
- 21:49of people that could use it.
- 21:51Yeah.
- 21:52And again, you just market it as different things, right?
- 21:55Like it might be called something different.
- 21:58You might have a ZMPIC for weight loss and diabetes and then you might have, you might
- 22:02rename it something like, yeah, for alcohol abuse and all of that.
- 22:05Okay.
- 22:06That's actually really cool.
- 22:07Yeah.
- 22:08And I do think it's like, and then also there's actually been links now, very early stages
- 22:12though, so I don't want to like, I'm not talking out of turn here, but like bell simers
- 22:16and like, oh my, brain function.
- 22:18How amazing would that be?
- 22:19I know.
- 22:20So I think there is probably people that are like, you know what, I think this is the first
- 22:24stage.
- 22:25Yes.
- 22:26It's like, there's so much other uses for this, but we don't know about the technology of
- 22:31drug that we haven't even discovered yet.
- 22:35And with this third player, Pfizer coming in, you know, that just means more money poured
- 22:40into clinical trials, you know, finding new uses that can actually leverage off this
- 22:46technology.
- 22:47So and Pfizer actually tried doing it themselves and it didn't work.
- 22:50And so they've now, yeah, they tried, they had a weight loss drug like ages ago and then
- 22:55they pulled pin and because the other two were better.
- 22:59So they've now bought this one.
- 23:00And so the fact that they've kind of re-entered the market is also a good sign because they're
- 23:06not just like, oh, well, you know, it's like they see huge potentials.
- 23:10There's these figures like the global obesity drug markets, expected to be 150 billion in
- 23:17the next five years.
- 23:18Oh my gosh.
- 23:19I don't know what size it is now, but yeah, it's just a sign that things are heating up
- 23:22every again.
- 23:23Yeah.
- 23:24All right.
- 23:25So more again, more of this to come.
- 23:26More of this to come.
- 23:27Are you invested in Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk?
- 23:31Yes.
- 23:32Are you?
- 23:33I'll throw up them.
- 23:34No.
- 23:35Okay.
- 23:36I say.
- 23:37Oh.
- 23:38Yeah.
- 23:39We've actually spoken about Pfizer in the club.
- 23:40Oh, yes.
- 23:41We're spoken about Novo Nordisk.
- 23:42We haven't spoken about Eli Lilly, but yeah, we have spoken about this massive trend.
- 23:46But I think when you're operating in a market that's growing and got so much demand,
- 23:53like this does, you're in such a supportive environment that you really have to screw
- 23:58up to go backwards.
- 24:00You can see the growth.
- 24:01You can see the potential.
- 24:02You can see the benefits.
- 24:03It's going to benefit.
- 24:04Not only this group of people that we had made it for, but now it's going to benefit.
- 24:07All these other people as well.
- 24:08Yeah.
- 24:09How could it possibly screw up?
- 24:10And Novo Nordisk's sheer price is back to where it was in like 2021.
- 24:14So it's gone all the way back up and then come all the way back down.
- 24:16Wow.
- 24:17Okay.
- 24:18I'll put a graph on screens we can see.
- 24:19Like you're kind of discrediting all that growth it's had in between.
- 24:23Does that make sense?
- 24:24Because it's like you're assuming the company is now the same size as it was back then.
- 24:28But yes, it's got billions and billions and billions of all of the sales in that time.
- 24:33But sheer price is always future looking.
- 24:35Okay.
- 24:36So people are like, oh, actually, I don't think it's going to remain competitive.
- 24:39People are now going about Eli Lilly.
- 24:41You've now got Pfizer.
- 24:42Whereas I'm kind of saying, I think there's space for, you know, that this market is
- 24:47on such a tier in terms of the demand that they're space for all three of us.
- 24:52There's kind of space for all three of them.
- 24:54Yeah.
- 24:55Oh, obviously some might do better than others, but when you've got such incredible growth
- 25:00in a market, you seriously have to eff up to not capitalize on that essentially.
- 25:07Okay.
- 25:08Yeah.
- 25:09Yeah.
- 25:10Yeah.
- 25:11Yeah.
- 25:12Yeah.
- 25:13Yeah.
- 25:14Yeah.
- 25:15I think they're focusing on the minority of people that are using it for a nods intended
- 25:21purposes.
- 25:22Yes.
- 25:23Okay.
- 25:24And I use a small minority.
- 25:25Yes.
- 25:26And it's like yes, it's, it's unfortunately getting bigger in terms of a minority, but I just
- 25:32think, you know, the benefits also to healthcare systems.
- 25:35Yeah.
- 25:36If you don't have, if you have people that, you know, controlling their diabetes or not
- 25:41becoming diabetic, I couldn't like all of that and the less of an impact that has
- 25:45on healthcare systems and can actually focus on people that really need it and like,
- 25:50and can't treat themselves.
- 25:51And less costs for the healthcare system.
- 25:53That means we can have lower taxes and like, you know, it's just like there's flow
- 25:57on benefits from that.
- 25:58Yeah.
- 25:59I mean, that's quite far down the track, but yeah, but yeah, you can see how it all flows.
- 26:02If you've got less spending here or you can spend more on education or you can spend,
- 26:05you know, like, because healthcare is such a cost to, you know, any country, any economy
- 26:12or the more that you can reduce that burden than being money elsewhere.
- 26:16Yeah, yeah.
- 26:17Okay.
- 26:18Got you.
- 26:19Yeah.
- 26:20Have to say, when you, when I heard the name ozampic, I immediately goes to all the bad
- 26:22things and then I'm like, I'd love to just get in your Britain and have a look around
- 26:25because you do see the full picture and you're like, hang on a second, look at all of the
- 26:29other things that it's doing.
- 26:30Yeah.
- 26:31So there's always going to be those people that abuse it and with any other drugs, right?
- 26:37Like you've got opioids, which are actually very useful for some people, but not for
- 26:42others.
- 26:43Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:44I don't know.
- 26:45Like, I'm not saying there's like drugs of, yeah, anyway, it's just, there's always a minority
- 26:49that ruined it for the majority.
- 26:51Yes.
- 26:52Okay.
- 26:53And there's rolling regulations that come into place if that gets swings too far one way,
- 26:58which we could see happen with ozampics of the world.
- 27:01Yeah.
- 27:02Yeah.
- 27:03But for the meantime, it's helping a lot of people.
- 27:04I know.
- 27:05You can see the benefits.
- 27:06Yeah.
- 27:07It's trickling down into loads of other areas that we didn't even see coming.
- 27:09Like, yeah.
- 27:10I really need to go back and watch the no-one or desk and I'm their phyzer.
- 27:13Yeah.
- 27:14Yeah.
- 27:15Yeah.
- 27:16And maybe I'll do it a little bit.
- 27:17Ah.
- 27:18May as well just round it out.
- 27:19Do it.
- 27:20Do it, do it.
- 27:21Oh my gosh.
- 27:22Maybe I'll diversify and invest in all three.
- 27:23Yes.
- 27:24Oh yeah.
- 27:25Also, we have little old New Zealand making history.
- 27:30Woo.
- 27:31Woo.
- 27:32So New Zealand has appointed its first woman leader of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.
- 27:40So like the bank that, you know, the head honcho bank essentially, that all the other
- 27:46banks listened to and effectively controlled interest rates essentially.
- 27:50Okay.
- 27:51It is a woman.
- 27:52Bus ever.
- 27:53Bus ever woman.
- 27:54Wow.
- 27:55That's huge.
- 27:56I know.
- 27:57I know.
- 27:58I know.
- 27:59What would be the equivalent in the UK?
- 28:00So like the Bank of England.
- 28:01Oh.
- 28:02Yes.
- 28:03Or in the US, it's like the federal reserve.
- 28:04Oh yeah.
- 28:05It's called Reserve Bank of Australia.
- 28:06All the central banks that control interest rates inflation, like they've got a massive
- 28:11job, right?
- 28:12Because there's a constant balance between, okay, we need to lower interest rates, for
- 28:17example, but we don't want inflation to run, run away because if you lower interest
- 28:22rates, it's been.
- 28:23Oh yeah.
- 28:24It's time, inflation.
- 28:25Yeah.
- 28:26But you want, you know, particularly for New Zealand right now, it's really struggling economically.
- 28:31Okay.
- 28:32And so they're like, we need to decrease interest rates.
- 28:34Then if you do it too quickly, or inflation, then inflation runs and then people will
- 28:39like even a worse position and yeah, so there, it's a big job.
- 28:43It's a really big job.
- 28:44And it's particularly when you're taking over a country that's kind of in recession, like
- 28:49we've had negative quarters of growth and so.
- 28:52Oh.
- 28:53But she's from Sweden.
- 28:54Oh yeah.
- 28:55Yeah.
- 28:56Calls for the first foreigner.
- 28:57Wow.
- 28:58Yeah.
- 28:59That's foreigner.
- 29:00First woman.
- 29:01What's her name?
- 29:03Oh my God.
- 29:04Go.
- 29:05Anna, that's so amazing.
- 29:06And I mean, I did some digging of like, I feel like there's been a lot of firsts when
- 29:10it comes to woman.
- 29:11Really?
- 29:12Yeah.
- 29:13In these kind of roles.
- 29:14And so we had Rachel Reeves in the UK.
- 29:15Yes.
- 29:16The Chancellor of the Exchicca.
- 29:17Yeah.
- 29:18Which sounds so posh.
- 29:19Chancellor of the Exchicca.
- 29:20I am the Chancellor of the Exchicca.
- 29:21So which essentially means, and she was appointed last year, but that essentially means
- 29:24that she is running the finances of the UK.
- 29:29So she does the budget.
- 29:30It's slightly different to the reserve bank.
- 29:31Yeah.
- 29:32But she still has to like, you know, when we're talking about, should we spend on health care?
- 29:37Should we spend on education?
- 29:38She's making the decisions.
- 29:39She's making the decisions.
- 29:40Yeah.
- 29:41So God, the fact that there's a first b-mail to run the country's money.
- 29:44Yeah.
- 29:45It's quite massive.
- 29:46It's also like, I know you can get angry with these things and be like, why is it taking
- 29:49so long?
- 29:50You know, but also I'm like, no, let's celebrate the fact that true.
- 29:54Yeah.
- 29:55It's now happening.
- 29:56All over the world, in Norway, they had the first b-mail governor of the Norwegian
- 30:01bank appointed a few years ago, and Australia's had the first b-mail of their central bank,
- 30:08the reserve bank of Australia, not that long ago.
- 30:10So it's like, we're starting to see change, which is good.
- 30:12That's right.
- 30:13Yeah, you're right, actually.
- 30:14Also, you'd be gutted if you got into power.
- 30:15And then everyone's like, oh, shut up half an alley, you just want, you'd want people
- 30:18to be like, nice one.
- 30:19Yeah.
- 30:20This is amazing.
- 30:21Yeah.
- 30:22Yeah.
- 30:23Change has come about.
- 30:24It's really good news, but New Zealand is not doing well lately, so he's kind of got a tough
- 30:43job on it.
- 30:44Yeah.
- 30:45Yeah.
- 30:46And when things aren't going well in a country, there's a lot of people tend to get what's
- 30:51the word frustrated and take it out on someone and blame someone, and you know, so I don't
- 30:56know.
- 30:57I hope I have high hopes, and I hope that she can get New Zealand out of this little pickle
- 31:01that it's in at the moment.
- 31:02Okay.
- 31:03Let's stay positive.
- 31:04Let's stay positive.
- 31:05Okay.
- 31:06Yeah.
- 31:07First b-mail.
- 31:08First foreigner.
- 31:09Go on, Anna.
- 31:10Go Anna.
- 31:11Do your best.
- 31:12And that is all I have for you today.
- 31:13Oh, well that was just stepping in.
- 31:14Yeah.
- 31:15Thank you so much for having me.
- 31:16It's weird being on this side of the camera.
- 31:18You had to jump up a few times and check that the camera's still recording all that,
- 31:21so just doing two jobs.
- 31:23Yeah.
- 31:24Yeah.
- 31:25Thank you so much for having me.
- 31:26I hope you have an absolutely fabulous week everybody.
- 31:27Yes.
- 31:28Have a great week.
- 31:29Also, keep your ears and eyes peeled for the Maddie episode coming out on Thursday morning
- 31:35New Zealand time.
