- 0:00Speaker 1: And here he is America's favorite phase on Donald's Faison.
- 0:04Speaker 1: What were you guys just talking about? We were talking
- 0:07Speaker 1: about Oculus, but I don't want to talk about it
- 0:09Speaker 1: anymore because we already gave them a seven minute ad today,
- 0:13Speaker 1: did we give Okay, we can talk about it a
- 0:15Speaker 1: little bit. Joelle tried. Joelle tried to gain the paint game. Joelle,
- 0:20Speaker 1: howd it go? It was so cool. I really liked
- 0:25Speaker 1: the star like thing. That was great. You can't see
- 0:28Speaker 1: stars where I live in Los Angeles, but I'm from
- 0:32Speaker 1: the country. We used to live where the corn grows,
- 0:34Speaker 1: and I missed stars, and so I just spent like
- 0:36Speaker 1: twenty minutes and there just stargazing. And then I found
- 0:39Speaker 1: out you could get like a dress bust, you know
- 0:42Speaker 1: where they like pin all the clothes to it so
- 0:45Speaker 1: that you can like design clothes with the light in
- 0:47Speaker 1: different textures they have. So I made pretty dresses for
- 0:50Speaker 1: like twenty minutes. Oh, I didn't know you could make
- 0:53Speaker 1: make clothes. I gotta try that. Fun as hell. And
- 0:56Speaker 1: then yeah, walking around in your own like design and
- 1:00Speaker 1: some of the colors were like flash and do like
- 1:02Speaker 1: pretty rainbow things. It's very if you were a Lisa
- 1:05Speaker 1: Frank person. Enjoy this app. You can be your own
- 1:09Speaker 1: Lisa Frank. I don't know who Lisa Frank is. Oh
- 1:12Speaker 1: my god. Okay. In the nineties, Lisa Frank made like
- 1:16Speaker 1: trapper keepers and binders and folders, but they were all
- 1:18Speaker 1: like neon tigers and elephants and dolphins, and dolphins were huge,
- 1:23Speaker 1: just beautiful, beautiful stuff. But all the girls in the
- 1:25Speaker 1: nineties had Lisa Frank binders and such. Oh got it? Hey,
- 1:28Speaker 1: did you get more Instagram followers because I blew up
- 1:30Speaker 1: your hot picture that you posted? I did? I think
- 1:34Speaker 1: maybe a thousand more people, maybe a thousand. Yeah, that's wow,
- 1:38Speaker 1: that's a lot. I was gonna I was gonna write
- 1:40Speaker 1: something like, you know, only slide into your DMS if
- 1:43Speaker 1: you mean business. But then I said, I'm just gonna
- 1:45Speaker 1: not en don't don't do that. Don't do that, don't
- 1:48Speaker 1: do that. I was worried she'd get dick picks, so
- 1:49Speaker 1: I didn't. Yeah, let me just censor the uh. I
- 1:54Speaker 1: don't you know what? You know what's interesting? Do you
- 1:57Speaker 1: go through like all of your emails Joe my emails? Ye,
- 2:02Speaker 1: not your emails, your your DMS. I'm sorry when I'll
- 2:07Speaker 1: scroll through them, because sometimes people have very lovely things
- 2:09Speaker 1: to say, and they're like, I don't know how to
- 2:11Speaker 1: reach you. I just want to say, and I'm like,
- 2:12Speaker 1: oh my god, that's so nice. Thank you. If you're
- 2:15Speaker 1: sending me a picture, they're all blurred out. I don't
- 2:17Speaker 1: know what they say. I can't see them. I don't
- 2:19Speaker 1: look at them. They're probably there's a couple I've opened
- 2:23Speaker 1: with you and been like, that's a screwed them and
- 2:25Speaker 1: I don't want it. And you men, What is it
- 2:29Speaker 1: with men sending dicks? I mean it's I mean, it's
- 2:31Speaker 1: obviously just the fucking power power thing. But I never understood, like,
- 2:35Speaker 1: what do they think the responses they're going to get
- 2:37Speaker 1: from sending a picture of their dick? I want to
- 2:39Speaker 1: put it in my mouth. They're never gonna get that.
- 2:42Speaker 1: I mean, if you're the one woman in the world
- 2:44Speaker 1: or man who's responded mm, looks good, then you've ruined
- 2:48Speaker 1: it for everybody, because people keeping a lot of people
- 2:56Speaker 1: give me ship for eating popcorn yesterday. I'm sorry, everybody.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I'm sorry, but you edited some of it out, Danel, Yeah,
- 3:05Speaker 1: I mean I had to cut some of it out.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Some of it was very explicit. I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I don't know what happened, Daniel. What happened to your webcam? Man?
- 3:12Speaker 1: We don't need It's just it's not working right. I
- 3:15Speaker 1: want the audience to know. I just want the audience
- 3:17Speaker 1: to know the dann a very fancy webcam because he's
- 3:20Speaker 1: missed her a computer guy, and we can't see him
- 3:22Speaker 1: because it doesn't work. The woman's stream will look better.
- 3:25Speaker 1: All it says. All it says is image edge webcam. Yeah,
- 3:31Speaker 1: you're image I would tell you if you're out in
- 3:37Speaker 1: the market for webcam, don't get an imaging edge one.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Hey Daniel, do you want to plug your stream? Since
- 3:47Speaker 1: I gave Joelle a shout out for for Instagram? What
- 3:50Speaker 1: what is your streaming? What's your streaming thing? Watch you
- 3:53Speaker 1: play stream on twitch at twitch dot tv slash dj
- 3:57Speaker 1: underscore Daniel like my Twitter handle my stream on Wednesdays
- 4:01Speaker 1: and Sunday nights seven pm onward. And what game do
- 4:05Speaker 1: you play? Yeah? What game play? Everything? Playing a lot
- 4:08Speaker 1: of the new season of Fall. Guys. There's a brand
- 4:11Speaker 1: new GTA five Heist that came out today. I play
- 4:14Speaker 1: a lot from that. That GTA Heights looks fire, looks
- 4:21Speaker 1: I haven't. I haven't played I haven't played gt Granted,
- 4:23Speaker 1: I haven't played GTA or Red Dead in about a
- 4:26Speaker 1: year now since I got home and COVID happened. And
- 4:29Speaker 1: you know, you can't. You can't just immerse yourself in
- 4:31Speaker 1: these world worlds for hours when you've got you know, eight,
- 4:36Speaker 1: a seven year old and a five year old running
- 4:38Speaker 1: round of course. Of course, but there used to be
- 4:41Speaker 1: a big GTA guy. He was addicted making scrubs. You
- 4:44Speaker 1: were playing, dude, GTA got to well. I wonder how
- 4:47Speaker 1: they're gonna address it with the ps what is it
- 4:51Speaker 1: a five now? Yeah? And the Xbox what is it
- 4:54Speaker 1: an Xbox, Xbox series X whatever the whatever it is? Right, Yeah,
- 4:59Speaker 1: there's how many there's so many consoles. But anyway, I
- 5:02Speaker 1: wonder how they're going to address that because the graphics
- 5:06Speaker 1: and the fluidity of the original were always fire anyway,
- 5:10Speaker 1: Like you could do everything and anything in GTA. You
- 5:13Speaker 1: can fly, you can rob somebody. They even made it
- 5:16Speaker 1: so you could rob banks and stuff like that. Like
- 5:18Speaker 1: they it gets to it. It's it's high level, uh,
- 5:22Speaker 1: you know, scum and villainy. Villainy. However, he's that scum
- 5:25Speaker 1: and villainy. Yeah, it's high level. How do they address that?
- 5:29Speaker 1: How do they address that with the new consoles? How
- 5:32Speaker 1: do they make it? How do you make it more
- 5:33Speaker 1: realistic than is the question? And and can you make
- 5:38Speaker 1: it virtual? Like what would be fire for these games
- 5:41Speaker 1: now is if what's the thing that they had in
- 5:45Speaker 1: that movie when a boy jumped on a treadmill and
- 5:48Speaker 1: could run in any direction if you could? Yeah, I
- 5:55Speaker 1: love them first of all that they do. Yeah, they
- 5:59Speaker 1: have things like like I know, they got the best
- 6:02Speaker 1: I know you put like wheeled sneakers on and you
- 6:05Speaker 1: and you walk around in this uh circle, rig right, Daniel,
- 6:11Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about? Yeah, oh absolutely. What's
- 6:13Speaker 1: it called? I think it's called like an omni omni track.
- 6:16Speaker 1: You have like a little wasting that goes around you
- 6:18Speaker 1: and then it's like a treadmill that just moves in
- 6:19Speaker 1: any direction. They're very cool. That would be that would
- 6:23Speaker 1: be a really cool but yeah, I don't know how
- 6:26Speaker 1: you would That would be really cool if you could
- 6:28Speaker 1: figure out a way to be actually jump into the
- 6:31Speaker 1: universe like in Ready Player one. That's next. Obviously we're
- 6:35Speaker 1: so far away from that. We're something we're that far
- 6:37Speaker 1: away from it. I mean, just messing around with the
- 6:40Speaker 1: oculus too. Now I'm seeing we're not far away from it.
- 6:42Speaker 1: All right, we should get to the show because people
- 6:44Speaker 1: don't want to hear another long VR conversation. I'm sure
- 6:46Speaker 1: it was. It's just so listen for all of you
- 6:48Speaker 1: out there, I'm just saying, they've got the PS fives
- 6:52Speaker 1: and the Xbox whatever it is. But I'm telling you
- 6:54Speaker 1: that oculus. Man, all right, it's a very special show,
- 6:58Speaker 1: you know what. Amazing. First of all, it's an amazing show.
- 7:01Speaker 1: It's I may not know. I did not know how
- 7:04Speaker 1: emotional I was going to get at the end of this.
- 7:06Speaker 1: You hit me up and you were like, yo, h
- 7:08Speaker 1: it's uh, it's it's it's My screw Up. Yeah. Should
- 7:13Speaker 1: we have rating on? And immediately I was like, oh, snap,
- 7:16Speaker 1: we're already yet the rating episode. Well listen, I had
- 7:19Speaker 1: thought for since we started. Here's the thing about My
- 7:22Speaker 1: screw Up. It's a lot of people's favorite episodes. It's
- 7:24Speaker 1: one of the highest ranking episodes in terms of like
- 7:28Speaker 1: the way they write ranked people, fans ranked things on
- 7:31Speaker 1: TV dot Com. It's ranked I read it's tied for
- 7:35Speaker 1: highest with an episode called My Lunch from season five,
- 7:39Speaker 1: so it is a lot of people's favorite episode. We
- 7:41Speaker 1: had planned to have Brandon on, We had planned to
- 7:43Speaker 1: have Johnny on, but you know, between COVID and the
- 7:45Speaker 1: holidays and our schedules, everything's all fa cocky. So I
- 7:48Speaker 1: just said to to Donald, why don't we have Josh
- 7:51Speaker 1: Raiden on? Because Josh Raiden, for those of you don't know,
- 7:55Speaker 1: wrote the song Winter that plays at the end of
- 7:57Speaker 1: the show, and that that song launched his entire career.
- 8:00Speaker 1: It broke him. It broke him literally, it broke him.
- 8:04Speaker 1: It turned him into the Josh raiding that Listen, Man,
- 8:08Speaker 1: I remember going to see Josh. Wait, wait, let's save it.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Let's invite him in, danil is he here? Save bringing in?
- 8:13Speaker 1: Let's see what he looks like. Oh, funderous applause, Dan,
- 8:19Speaker 1: I'm thunderous. Applause. Joshu will write, Okay, okay, someone's had
- 8:31Speaker 1: some coffee. Someone's had some coffee. He's barking. This is
- 8:35Speaker 1: my first podcast. We have, we started, we'd already begune.
- 8:38Speaker 1: We did a whole we did. We've been talking about
- 8:40Speaker 1: you on the podcast. It's it's happening, all right, and
- 8:43Speaker 1: we're back in everybody. We had a very interesting thing
- 8:47Speaker 1: we edited out trying to educate a professional magician how
- 8:50Speaker 1: to record himself. Josh, why do you call him a magician?
- 8:54Speaker 1: Did you just call him a magician a musician? How come, Josh,
- 8:57Speaker 1: you don't know how to record yourself? I remember called intelligent.
- 9:03Speaker 1: We're so happy you're here, everybody. So, if you don't know,
- 9:06Speaker 1: Joshua Raiding is my friend from Northwestern and he also
- 9:11Speaker 1: he's my friend. He's my friend. I introduced him to
- 9:14Speaker 1: Donald faz one Vegas trip. That's all it took, even
- 9:18Speaker 1: before Vegas, though I met in New York. We met
- 9:22Speaker 1: in New York, Dude, Jeff Sucker, I know we met
- 9:25Speaker 1: in New York. Josh, you were there that night, back
- 9:28Speaker 1: when you had a whole other life, man, back before
- 9:31Speaker 1: you were a musician, back when you were dating another girl.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Now now you're freaking a freaking I'm gonna say it.
- 9:38Speaker 1: You're a playboy, dog, You're a true player. You're a
- 9:40Speaker 1: rock star. Man. Do you know how hard it is
- 9:44Speaker 1: to be single in a pandemic? Oh? I not feel
- 9:47Speaker 1: for him, dude, he's doing this all alone. You can't date.
- 9:50Speaker 1: And then Joel knows you can't date during during COVID
- 9:53Speaker 1: and die. So yeah, but you could set up so
- 9:56Speaker 1: much stuff and when COVID's over just played out, you
- 9:59Speaker 1: can have You got the gift, man, you got the voice,
- 10:02Speaker 1: and you got the guitar. That is all you need.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I know, but that should be put on layaway and
- 10:09Speaker 1: people out there. I'll be like, Okay, I will wait
- 10:11Speaker 1: until two twenty twenty two to give up somebody's goods.
- 10:18Speaker 1: One thing to be like laying foundation, Joel. I'm sure
- 10:21Speaker 1: is laying some foundation, right, Joel, you're flirting too a
- 10:23Speaker 1: little bit. I got the job done well, but I
- 10:32Speaker 1: just I get the job done well anyway. So, Josh,
- 10:37Speaker 1: you met Donald for the first time our infamous Big night.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Josh was my great friend in New York and then
- 10:44Speaker 1: I got Scrubs and we went through it all together.
- 10:47Speaker 1: We went through the life change, right, Josh, I watched
- 10:50Speaker 1: some pretty hilarious things. Yeah, and Donald Donald and I
- 10:54Speaker 1: were instantly inseparable, and Josh was there with us through
- 10:59Speaker 1: many an adventure. Listen, man, we're going to get your
- 11:03Speaker 1: best friend become famous. Is a is a very interesting thing.
- 11:07Speaker 1: And vice versa, dude, and vice versa. Oh, I mean
- 11:10Speaker 1: when I mean when I say famous, I mean the
- 11:12Speaker 1: kind of famous that we'd walked down the street New
- 11:14Speaker 1: York and sometimes I would walk like, you know, ten
- 11:17Speaker 1: feet behind Zach through the city just to watch people
- 11:20Speaker 1: right after they pass him go, oh my god, that
- 11:22Speaker 1: was Zach Brath. Oh my god's the guy from Scrubs.
- 11:25Speaker 1: You know. It was so funny to watch people's reactions
- 11:28Speaker 1: to see I just do that to myself in real time.
- 11:32Speaker 1: It was cool just to piggyback on that, you know, Josh,
- 11:37Speaker 1: at least I could say for myself. I remember going
- 11:39Speaker 1: to like the hotel cafe or to like you know,
- 11:44Speaker 1: I guess, yeah, just the hotel cafe really and it
- 11:47Speaker 1: being empty and it just being me, Zach, Mandy Moore,
- 11:52Speaker 1: and Minka Kelly, and that was it in the in
- 11:55Speaker 1: the audience watching you perform, and you would go on
- 11:58Speaker 1: after like some other act and some other act, and
- 12:01Speaker 1: then it would be just you and you'd get to
- 12:03Speaker 1: do like three songs, and we'd wait the whole night
- 12:06Speaker 1: for you to go up and perform. Dude, and that's
- 12:08Speaker 1: you and now and then so and then so it
- 12:12Speaker 1: blew my mind. And I'm gonna say this you know,
- 12:15Speaker 1: it's great that you know, the music was on scrubs
- 12:17Speaker 1: and everything like that, but there was still struggle after
- 12:20Speaker 1: the music was on scrubs and people don't really know
- 12:22Speaker 1: that shit. You know, the song was brought and everything
- 12:24Speaker 1: like that, but you know, it wasn't like you know,
- 12:27Speaker 1: it wasn't like an overnight all of a sudden instant thing,
- 12:31Speaker 1: you know what I mean. It's I'm still waiting for
- 12:33Speaker 1: that big break. Well, Josh, tell everyone, do we ever
- 12:39Speaker 1: count in? I forgot about six seven, eight stories about Sure,
- 12:44Speaker 1: we made about a bunch of nurses stories. So gather
- 12:56Speaker 1: around here, yato around here? Did you guys see that
- 13:06Speaker 1: Josh Josh Rayden kaijacking the five secres. Usually the guests
- 13:10Speaker 1: wait for permission, but no Josh. Longtime listeners, Ac tell everyone, actually,
- 13:16Speaker 1: Josh is one of my few friends. Josh and my
- 13:19Speaker 1: girlfriend's mom are the only people left in my life
- 13:21Speaker 1: that's still listen to the podcast. Your mom doesn't listen anymore.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I don't think my mom. Well, she might, but she
- 13:26Speaker 1: doesn't mention it. Carrie Brothers mentioned I was on Mark
- 13:32Speaker 1: Maron's podcast He Like Loved You on Mark Marron's podcast.
- 13:34Speaker 1: He doesn't bring up this podcast anymore. But Josh Raydon
- 13:39Speaker 1: often listens when he's hiking, as I understand it, right, Josh,
- 13:42Speaker 1: I know Johnny still listens to the podcast. Actually cast
- 13:45Speaker 1: your podcast for the Well, I've told you this, but
- 13:47Speaker 1: I'll tell your listeners right when the world shut down.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I live here in la as you guys do, and
- 13:55Speaker 1: I live up in the hills, and there's all these
- 13:56Speaker 1: like stone stairs that go through the hills. These secret
- 13:59Speaker 1: stone stairs that I COVID got me so scared that
- 14:02Speaker 1: I wanted to get in good cardiovascular shape because obviously
- 14:08Speaker 1: the better shape you're in for a respiratory disease of yours.
- 14:12Speaker 1: So I started running up and down these stairs every morning,
- 14:16Speaker 1: and the podcast was the only thing that got me through. Well,
- 14:19Speaker 1: that's great. We've had a lot of people say they
- 14:22Speaker 1: exercised and inspired them, and that makes us very happy.
- 14:25Speaker 1: I have to see because I didn't get to see
- 14:26Speaker 1: you guys for so long until we like we formed
- 14:28Speaker 1: a pod and then I could see you in like
- 14:30Speaker 1: in our backyards are just our few, you know, tightest friends.
- 14:33Speaker 1: But it was like I went like a good six weeks,
- 14:36Speaker 1: seven weeks without seeing one single person, you know, just
- 14:39Speaker 1: sitting in my house by myself and so listening to
- 14:42Speaker 1: you guys talk, uh, you know twice a week was
- 14:45Speaker 1: was just saved my life. Really, you know, we don't
- 14:49Speaker 1: never talk about that type of stuff, being by yourself
- 14:52Speaker 1: for six weeks, Josh, other than like, I guess face
- 14:56Speaker 1: timing and how did you how did you cope with
- 14:59Speaker 1: that when COVID first hit Joe, Well, you have your
- 15:02Speaker 1: brother with you, right, yeah, Joel, because her brother Josh
- 15:05Speaker 1: was totally alone. You were do loo basically. It's it's
- 15:09Speaker 1: interestingly I finished my European tour. I was mid January
- 15:13Speaker 1: to mid February this year in a different city in
- 15:17Speaker 1: Europe every day, like hugging people, shaking hands, you know,
- 15:20Speaker 1: meeting so many different people every day. Right when COVID
- 15:23Speaker 1: was kind of like starting, but it wasn't a big
- 15:25Speaker 1: thing yet, people were like, oh, what's this, you know,
- 15:28Speaker 1: And so I got really sick for the whole month
- 15:31Speaker 1: of that tour. I had this weird throat infection. So
- 15:33Speaker 1: but it was before we knew really what it was,
- 15:35Speaker 1: and then I finally just got over it. But it
- 15:37Speaker 1: culminated in Italy in mid February, you know, which was
- 15:40Speaker 1: one of the Hot Spots Wow, which is one of
- 15:42Speaker 1: the hots Wow. Right then, I mean I was like,
- 15:45Speaker 1: I had to postpone a show in Rome because I
- 15:47Speaker 1: lost my voice and anyway, So I think I had it,
- 15:49Speaker 1: but I don't really know. Everybody everybody has that story, right,
- 15:53Speaker 1: everybody has that I think I had it. I don't
- 15:56Speaker 1: have that. I don't. I don't think I had it.
- 15:57Speaker 1: But Josh, did you get the anybody test? Or did
- 15:59Speaker 1: it go away in the editor. I went into our doctor,
- 16:03Speaker 1: as you know, we share a doctor, and I got
- 16:05Speaker 1: the antibody's test, but it was like six months later
- 16:07Speaker 1: and they were He said, we don't even know if
- 16:09Speaker 1: these tests are going to give a false positive or
- 16:11Speaker 1: pulse negative. We don't you know, anybody's my only last
- 16:15Speaker 1: two or three months, you know. So it turns out
- 16:17Speaker 1: I didn't have them after all that time. But my
- 16:19Speaker 1: point I was making was that, right, I just finished
- 16:22Speaker 1: touring this new album, all of it, and I thought
- 16:25Speaker 1: to myself, I'm gonna go home and sit in my
- 16:27Speaker 1: house by myself and write a new album and not
- 16:29Speaker 1: see anyone for like three months, and then it's basically
- 16:32Speaker 1: going to turn into a year and a half of
- 16:34Speaker 1: not seeing anyone, but I did when we at least
- 16:36Speaker 1: folded you into our pods, we can see you, We
- 16:39Speaker 1: see you. You're gonna come over for Jesus's birthday. That's true,
- 16:44Speaker 1: and neither one of you. You both are freaking yahweh
- 16:48Speaker 1: is looking down on YouTube like, no, you're always down
- 16:52Speaker 1: for us to celebrate a very nice Jewish man's birthday. Yeah. Also,
- 16:58Speaker 1: Zach friend is not Jewish, and it is a huge
- 17:02Speaker 1: Christmas lover and she's very into so we're gonna be
- 17:05Speaker 1: very supportive of her first Christmas in La. I wanted
- 17:09Speaker 1: to say that you give up your identity. You hate
- 17:12Speaker 1: your own people. You two, you hate your own people.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Josh is skimming over the fact that he didn't just
- 17:17Speaker 1: get in respiratory shape. He got in the sickest shape
- 17:20Speaker 1: I've ever seen him in. Yeah he he No, he's
- 17:23Speaker 1: got the sea gutters, dude, He's got the whole thing.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Oh wait, Joe, she s headed, Okay, so what is this?
- 17:36Speaker 1: I just want to know what is a sea gutter?
- 17:38Speaker 1: I don't want to see it in front of Joel. Joel,
- 17:40Speaker 1: can you take your headphones off from the go ahead?
- 17:43Speaker 1: All right? Joel took her headphones off, it's they call
- 17:45Speaker 1: him cum gutters and it's under the whoa whoa, under
- 17:49Speaker 1: the abs right here, like like the v and and theoretically,
- 17:55Speaker 1: I'm sorry earmums if you're in the car with your kids,
- 17:58Speaker 1: but it's where the semen would would likely gather like
- 18:02Speaker 1: a gutter. Okay, so all right, Joe, well put your
- 18:07Speaker 1: head hold on hold on No no no no no no
- 18:09Speaker 1: no no no no no it wasn't. You don't necessarily
- 18:13Speaker 1: have to Okay, she's a grown ass woman. You don't
- 18:15Speaker 1: necessarily have to be in shape to have. Yes, you
- 18:18Speaker 1: do the kind of I have talking Brad. I'm telling him,
- 18:22Speaker 1: Brad pennon fight Club, the vait he could catch it
- 18:26Speaker 1: in all of it. He could catch it there, all
- 18:28Speaker 1: of it. No, No, we're trading in this podcast. It's
- 18:32Speaker 1: all just audio. Right, it's just audio. Show us. Yeah,
- 18:34Speaker 1: show show Josh and show this see those look at
- 18:40Speaker 1: this ship. Yeah you didn't know that. Donald, I didn't
- 18:46Speaker 1: know that. The last time I saw him he was
- 18:47Speaker 1: kind of getting into dude. He looks like that now,
- 18:50Speaker 1: thanks thanks to the podcast. What do you got the peloton? No,
- 18:54Speaker 1: you got the stairs, you got stay, you got the stairs.
- 18:58Speaker 1: More than that though you can't just high. I can
- 19:00Speaker 1: get abs like that dog. He changed his whole diet.
- 19:02Speaker 1: He changes. I don't know. I don't know where to
- 19:05Speaker 1: where I would put a peloton in my house. I'd
- 19:06Speaker 1: have to put it outside. I don't think you can
- 19:08Speaker 1: do that, because then I could buy you in. Dog.
- 19:11Speaker 1: What you're eating, you're not eating? He doesn't. He he
- 19:15Speaker 1: doesn't smoke weed because it gives him munch. You stopped
- 19:18Speaker 1: smoking weed? Yeah, I've been eating healthy. He's smoking cigarettes. Oh,
- 19:23Speaker 1: I haven't smoke cigarettes in years. Good Josh was a
- 19:25Speaker 1: big smoker. And ladies and gentlemen, he is proof that
- 19:28Speaker 1: a hypnotist can work because he went to a hypnotist
- 19:30Speaker 1: once and never smoked again. Right, Josh, it you know
- 19:34Speaker 1: I didn't have a drag of a cigarette after that
- 19:36Speaker 1: for about ten years. And then I went through a
- 19:40Speaker 1: bad breakup with my ex girlfriend and started a little
- 19:43Speaker 1: bit again. And then No, but the hypnotists work. Speaking
- 19:46Speaker 1: speaking speaking a bad break He probably doesn't want to
- 19:49Speaker 1: talk about his break. No but speaking a bad breakup.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Let's just get into the song now, then, Ladies and gentlemen, paperweight, No, No,
- 19:57Speaker 1: Donald and I have Donald and I share one of
- 20:01Speaker 1: our favorite Josh Raids songs. We played it on the
- 20:03Speaker 1: show Paperweight. That's one of our favorites. I remember, thank
- 20:05Speaker 1: you for doing that. I listened to that episode. Now
- 20:08Speaker 1: it's in so many movies, man, Josh's music. All right,
- 20:12Speaker 1: we gotta go back. We're being bad interviewers here, we're
- 20:14Speaker 1: jumping around. I got distracted by his sea gutters. Now, Josh, Josh,
- 20:22Speaker 1: tell everyone the story. So, Josh, I mean, because you
- 20:26Speaker 1: just just give everyone of a cliff notes version of
- 20:29Speaker 1: your trajectory. Because you were a screenwriter in You're a
- 20:32Speaker 1: screenwriter in Manhattan. With with you and I were became
- 20:35Speaker 1: friendly being young aspiring writers in Manhattan. And then just
- 20:40Speaker 1: give everyone some some some bullet points of what happened
- 20:42Speaker 1: to you. Well, yeah, I was a struggling screenwriter. I
- 20:47Speaker 1: had I was waiting tables and doing you know, catering
- 20:50Speaker 1: gigs and things like that in New York, like starving
- 20:53Speaker 1: artists sort of stuff. And then I'd go down to
- 20:57Speaker 1: the cafe every morning, and you know, when I wasn't
- 21:00Speaker 1: working some other gig and write screenplays. I had written
- 21:03Speaker 1: like six features, and you and I would give each
- 21:05Speaker 1: other notes. I remember the first incarnation of Garden State
- 21:11Speaker 1: when it was called Largest Arc, and it was like
- 21:13Speaker 1: sixty pages longer than what I'd ended up becoming. But
- 21:16Speaker 1: I remember when you gave that to me after you
- 21:18Speaker 1: had read a couple of mine, and I was like,
- 21:19Speaker 1: I was writing like big budget romantic comedies or you know,
- 21:23Speaker 1: things that might maybe like a Will Ferrell or Ben Stiller.
- 21:26Speaker 1: At the time, I was like, that would be great
- 21:27Speaker 1: if I could get guys like that. And you gave
- 21:35Speaker 1: me the Largest Arc to read and to give you notes,
- 21:38Speaker 1: and I just remember thinking, this is like real, this
- 21:41Speaker 1: is making me feel something. I'm not doing it right,
- 21:45Speaker 1: and I just sort of felt like it sort of
- 21:50Speaker 1: inspired me too. I had never played music in my
- 21:54Speaker 1: whole life. I had never grown up playing music or
- 21:56Speaker 1: taking any instrument lessons or anything like that. And so
- 22:00Speaker 1: I was about to turn thirty years old, and I
- 22:03Speaker 1: was struggling as an artist, and I just thought, maybe
- 22:07Speaker 1: I'm doing these things for the wrong reasons. I'm trying
- 22:09Speaker 1: to write these screenplays to sell them, rather than like
- 22:12Speaker 1: writing what I know, or writing what I'm really passionate about,
- 22:15Speaker 1: or making myself vulnerable in some way with my writing.
- 22:19Speaker 1: And so I started playing guitar and learning a few
- 22:23Speaker 1: chords and learned a few covers, and then I knew
- 22:27Speaker 1: enough chords on the guitar after learning a couple of
- 22:30Speaker 1: Dylan songs that I was like, well, I'm a writer.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Maybe I'll try to write my own song. And I
- 22:38Speaker 1: wrote this song. Winter was the first song I wrote.
- 22:42Speaker 1: And I remember we were sitting in You and I
- 22:44Speaker 1: were sitting in my apartment in the East Village in
- 22:46Speaker 1: New York, and you saw a guitar in my living room,
- 22:49Speaker 1: sitting up against the wall, and you were like, I
- 22:51Speaker 1: didn't know you played guitar. And I was like, well,
- 22:52Speaker 1: I don't really play. I mean, I'm just kind of
- 22:54Speaker 1: learning and learn a few chords and a few cover songs.
- 22:56Speaker 1: And he said, we'll play me something like oh. I
- 23:00Speaker 1: could never do that at the time. I couldn't even
- 23:03Speaker 1: open my eyes when I was playing the song. I
- 23:07Speaker 1: was so nervous to play in front of anybody anyway.
- 23:10Speaker 1: So I made you turn around. I don't know if
- 23:12Speaker 1: you remember it. I do remember that you said, don't
- 23:14Speaker 1: look at me. Don't you look at me? Wow? And uh,
- 23:19Speaker 1: And I remember this vividly. I played this song Winter,
- 23:24Speaker 1: and you turned around and your eyes were like a
- 23:26Speaker 1: little watery and it had affected you. And I was like, wow,
- 23:30Speaker 1: that's cool. That nothing I've written, you know, in terms
- 23:33Speaker 1: of screenplays or paintings I painted or anything like that. Ever,
- 23:36Speaker 1: I'd ever seen that kind of response from someone other
- 23:39Speaker 1: than like my mom, you know, or dad or you know.
- 23:42Speaker 1: And uh so coming from a dear friend, that was
- 23:46Speaker 1: really cool. And it's sort of I don't know. I
- 23:49Speaker 1: remember you said to me, I really love that song.
- 23:53Speaker 1: You should probably maybe make a demo of it or something,
- 23:55Speaker 1: you know. Scrubs and Bills, Bill and Christmas. They're always
- 23:58Speaker 1: looking for music, especially the music that they can afford,
- 24:02Speaker 1: because at the time it wasn't sinks. It wasn't like
- 24:06Speaker 1: it as now. You wouldn't turn on the TV and
- 24:08Speaker 1: hear a Stones song or a Beatles song or something
- 24:12Speaker 1: like that. They were way too expensive. It was pre streaming,
- 24:15Speaker 1: so people were still making money in the music industry,
- 24:18Speaker 1: big legends. It was a good time for at the
- 24:21Speaker 1: time we were making Scrubs was an amazing time for
- 24:25Speaker 1: singer songwriters like Josh because, like he said, the big
- 24:30Speaker 1: famous songs they might splurge a couple of times, as
- 24:32Speaker 1: Bill did in this show and pay for a big song.
- 24:36Speaker 1: But in Josh's you know, it was a great opening
- 24:39Speaker 1: for a singer songwriter because they were they were they
- 24:41Speaker 1: were moving and beautiful, but gettable and affordable. So essentially
- 24:44Speaker 1: it was the gold rush for people like me. So
- 24:46Speaker 1: we moved, all these musicians moved from New York out
- 24:49Speaker 1: to LA where the music supervisors and the TV shows
- 24:51Speaker 1: and the movies are made. And I'd play in this
- 24:54Speaker 1: little place called though. Oh sorry, but I've skipped over
- 24:58Speaker 1: this part where the most important actually, because it has
- 25:00Speaker 1: to do with scrubs. So you said, you know, maybe
- 25:03Speaker 1: make a demo of that song. So I went into
- 25:05Speaker 1: carry brothers are their best friend, into his bedroom. He
- 25:10Speaker 1: had a little pro tools rig on an old Mac,
- 25:13Speaker 1: and I just played it live and then recorded a
- 25:16Speaker 1: harmony over it. I mean, as demo as you can get.
- 25:20Speaker 1: It's no mixing, no mastering, nothing like no, it's one
- 25:23Speaker 1: take and sent the demo to you. You forwarded it
- 25:27Speaker 1: onto Bill Lawrence and like, I don't know, like two
- 25:31Speaker 1: three weeks later, I get a call from Bill and
- 25:33Speaker 1: he's like, Hey, do you mind if I that song
- 25:35Speaker 1: works perfectly in this episode? Do you mind if we
- 25:37Speaker 1: use it? And And I was like, are you kidding? This
- 25:40Speaker 1: is the first song he the first song you'd ever
- 25:42Speaker 1: written that was only recorded just with a mic and
- 25:45Speaker 1: a guitar on pro tools, no nothing else except for
- 25:48Speaker 1: one pro tools back that it was like Carrie didn't
- 25:51Speaker 1: have like a real studio. This was like a this
- 25:54Speaker 1: is like a little rig we had. So the recording
- 25:56Speaker 1: we hear in the show is just you and Carry's bedroom, Yeah,
- 26:00Speaker 1: on a fifty eight mic, Like I mean, as basic
- 26:03Speaker 1: as you can get, well, and then I'll take it
- 26:07Speaker 1: from there. I just this this section. I remember I
- 26:10Speaker 1: always was playing music for Bill and he flipped out
- 26:13Speaker 1: over this. We I had no idea this would become
- 26:16Speaker 1: such a popular episode, but it was obviously, you know,
- 26:19Speaker 1: became enormous. And then everyone started searching for Josh's music.
- 26:24Speaker 1: But the thing is he didn't have any songs. He
- 26:26Speaker 1: only had one song, right Carry. I remember Carry when
- 26:32Speaker 1: it was airing. Carry's like, you need a MySpace page,
- 26:35Speaker 1: you know, so if people search for you or whatever.
- 26:37Speaker 1: So I didn't. I was even more computer or literate
- 26:41Speaker 1: back then, although nothing's really changed, and so Carry set
- 26:45Speaker 1: up my MySpace page. It was or a little website,
- 26:47Speaker 1: which is a picture of me and a link where
- 26:50Speaker 1: you could just listen to Winter the demo. And it
- 26:54Speaker 1: was really cool because Bill told me afterwards, and you
- 26:57Speaker 1: told me afterwards that after the show aired, Uh, well,
- 27:00Speaker 1: you guys were on NBC then before you had switched
- 27:02Speaker 1: to ABC. So the NBC website crashed after the episode
- 27:07Speaker 1: aired from so many people around the world trying to
- 27:10Speaker 1: find out where to get that song or whose song
- 27:12Speaker 1: that wasn't. Oh my god, well there goes screenwriting. I'm
- 27:15Speaker 1: moving to LA and become a musician. Yeah. So I
- 27:18Speaker 1: got goose bumps when you told me that. Just now
- 27:20Speaker 1: that was That's such a great story. I mean, yeah,
- 27:23Speaker 1: and and and it's just like it's like when Susan
- 27:25Speaker 1: Boyle came out and sang lay miss. You know, everyone
- 27:28Speaker 1: was like, oh my god, but I hear I didn't
- 27:31Speaker 1: hear what you said. I didn't. I didn't. I don't
- 27:33Speaker 1: get this Susan Boyle. Susan Boyle was that. I know,
- 27:36Speaker 1: I know who she is. I just don't understand how well.
- 27:39Speaker 1: It was so moving, and it was one of those
- 27:41Speaker 1: moments where I'm very moved, as I'm sure the world is.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Because these shows are so popular. When someone comes out
- 27:46Speaker 1: and it's Susan Boyle and you're not expecting it, and
- 27:49Speaker 1: they have a voice that makes you just your jaw
- 27:52Speaker 1: drop and you clutch your head like, oh my god,
- 27:54Speaker 1: where's this woman been. It's so moving she can perform
- 27:57Speaker 1: like that. And I'm just saying it was it reminded
- 28:00Speaker 1: me of Josh being like, he's he's thirty years old.
- 28:03Speaker 1: He was he hasn't sold a screen play. He was feeling,
- 28:07Speaker 1: he was going through a bad breakup, and all of
- 28:10Speaker 1: a sudden his entire life changed because he wrote, has
- 28:14Speaker 1: had the courage to write his very first song, and
- 28:16Speaker 1: the talent well, and also happened to be best friends
- 28:19Speaker 1: with a guy who was the star of a TV
- 28:20Speaker 1: show looking for music. So I mean, it's a combination
- 28:22Speaker 1: of as most people will tell you in the entertainment
- 28:25Speaker 1: business is it's a combination of of talent and work,
- 28:29Speaker 1: but also who you know, and of course of course
- 28:32Speaker 1: but but but but you know it, all all those
- 28:35Speaker 1: things line up. Of course, access is key and and
- 28:38Speaker 1: but but still, Bill wouldn't have even listened to four
- 28:43Speaker 1: seconds of my friend and shitty song, you know. Well,
- 28:46Speaker 1: I will also say that even after that episode aired
- 28:48Speaker 1: and we're talking about. It wasn't like this overnight thing
- 28:50Speaker 1: where all of a sudden I was like a rock star.
- 28:52Speaker 1: It was like, man, I remember, I mean it was
- 28:57Speaker 1: brick by brick still, I mean sixteen sixteen years later
- 29:01Speaker 1: and it's still like your music industries gets hurt every year,
- 29:05Speaker 1: but you are able to make a living as an artist,
- 29:09Speaker 1: and so you are blessed as we all are in
- 29:12Speaker 1: that way. And in normal times, Josh tours all over
- 29:15Speaker 1: the world, so you should always look where what's your website?
- 29:19Speaker 1: We'll get your plug in now, Josh, what's their website
- 29:21Speaker 1: to search for where you tour and ship? Well? Uh,
- 29:24Speaker 1: Joshua raidin dot com and raiding'spelled our A d I N.
- 29:29Speaker 1: That's correct. And then what do you do? Josh? You've
- 29:31Speaker 1: been doing this. We're gonna talk with the episode. Everyone
- 29:33Speaker 1: stop freaking out. Josh, what are you're doing? This interesting thing? Now?
- 29:37Speaker 1: You're doing sort of private home concerts. How do people
- 29:40Speaker 1: find out about that? On my website? You can you
- 29:43Speaker 1: can see it. It's just a link. That's It's a
- 29:45Speaker 1: company called Topeka Live that started after when this pandemic started.
- 29:50Speaker 1: It's just some guys I knew that started this company
- 29:54Speaker 1: to help musicians kind of engage with their audiences all
- 29:57Speaker 1: over the world and play live through these Zoom shows.
- 30:01Speaker 1: So I've been doing that a lot this year. So
- 30:03Speaker 1: you can like have at you could have a Zoom part,
- 30:05Speaker 1: like if your friends all love Josh, you could have
- 30:08Speaker 1: like a Zoom party and Josh all you hire Josh
- 30:10Speaker 1: to comply. Or you can even just have a salt
- 30:12Speaker 1: song with your with your lover. It's a bunch of
- 30:14Speaker 1: different options, and it's it's been very It's I might,
- 30:19Speaker 1: I might get paperweight for me and Donald Donald? Do
- 30:21Speaker 1: you want us? You want us put that with me?
- 30:24Speaker 1: It's pretty cool because the company a portion of every zoom,
- 30:28Speaker 1: whether it's a serenade that's like one song and you
- 30:30Speaker 1: get like a chat fifteen minutes, or it's like a
- 30:32Speaker 1: forty five little minute mini concert you get like six songs,
- 30:35Speaker 1: you request the songs whatever we chat. You can do
- 30:39Speaker 1: like six different windows of zooms of people all over
- 30:42Speaker 1: the world. If you have how much for you to
- 30:43Speaker 1: show your sea gutters? Is that? Is there an option
- 30:45Speaker 1: for that option for that maybe just for for for
- 30:51Speaker 1: Zach and Donald. Wait, hold up, do you have only
- 30:53Speaker 1: fans Josh? Do I have what only fans. I'm not
- 30:57Speaker 1: sure what that is. Okay, you need to get you
- 31:00Speaker 1: again with fans. You need to get you only fans
- 31:02Speaker 1: back right away. I was gonna say, but what also
- 31:06Speaker 1: is cool about this Topeka Live is that a portion
- 31:08Speaker 1: of every thing that people purchase goes to this really
- 31:11Speaker 1: cool charity that helps families get out of poverty. So
- 31:15Speaker 1: it's like for everybody, that's really awesome. But you need
- 31:18Speaker 1: to get an only fans. Yeah, we want everyone's everyone
- 31:20Speaker 1: wants to see. Only fans will allow you to show
- 31:22Speaker 1: nudes and let let all your fans really enjoy all
- 31:25Speaker 1: of you. If you gotta show, if you gotta show
- 31:29Speaker 1: Sea gutters, if you gotta show Sea gutters, get you
- 31:31Speaker 1: only fans. All right, let's talk. Donald. Are you ready
- 31:34Speaker 1: with your summary? Josh, We're gonna let you sit in
- 31:38Speaker 1: because you're a VIP guest as we discussed the episode. Donald,
- 31:42Speaker 1: as you know from being discussed the episode, am I
- 31:44Speaker 1: allowed to talk? But yeah, of course we want your input. Okay, Okay, wait,
- 31:50Speaker 1: let me get my tire, I stop watch recent and
- 31:54Speaker 1: go Carlos keeping her last name. Turk's mold is alive.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Doctor Clock's blames Jay deep for the death of a patient,
- 32:02Speaker 1: and Elliott's Bunyan is nightmarish. This episode is a lot,
- 32:07Speaker 1: so it's hard to summarize in thirty seconds. Brendan Fraser
- 32:10Speaker 1: and Tara Reid are back, and all of our character
- 32:13Speaker 1: storylines blend together and intertwine. Other than the obvious, one
- 32:18Speaker 1: storyline really stood out for me. Who are we when
- 32:22Speaker 1: we show ourselves to the world? Are you your true self?
- 32:26Speaker 1: Or do you hide behind a persona? It's always a
- 32:29Speaker 1: pleasant surprise when you get a positive reaction from a
- 32:32Speaker 1: negative person. Kelso storyline really softens you up before the
- 32:37Speaker 1: big reveal at the end of the show. Yeah, that's true.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Forty six seconds for that one guy making the graph
- 32:44Speaker 1: every day of how long Donald is one guy can
- 32:47Speaker 1: lick my my my, But but he's not. It's not
- 32:52Speaker 1: a negative thing, Donald, he just is. He's just doing
- 32:54Speaker 1: an artful graph of help. Yeah, but the way you're
- 32:56Speaker 1: the way you're using him to criticize me makes me
- 33:03Speaker 1: want to tell him to eat a Yeah, you know
- 33:05Speaker 1: that's sometimes or a guy just making a graph. All right, listen,
- 33:11Speaker 1: it's a legendary episode, guys. I gotta say in in
- 33:15Speaker 1: my eight point five years on this show. This is
- 33:17Speaker 1: the one that people bring up most to me. I think, right, Donald,
- 33:21Speaker 1: would you say that I get this? I get this
- 33:23Speaker 1: one a lot in the musical episode, It's like it's
- 33:25Speaker 1: like the sixth sense? Is that the right? Yeah? I
- 33:28Speaker 1: think that Bill, that Bill has said that was an inspiration.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Obviously it is the because once you see it happen,
- 33:36Speaker 1: you get it automatically, like you see when it all
- 33:38Speaker 1: goes down. We are watching it now, watching it right,
- 33:41Speaker 1: watching it now. Therst time you watch it, you don't
- 33:44Speaker 1: necessarily pick up on it. I have to admit, I
- 33:46Speaker 1: don't think i'd never gone back. Like Donald and I
- 33:49Speaker 1: have said, we never we never really We'd occasionally watched
- 33:51Speaker 1: these when I don't know about you, but I would
- 33:53Speaker 1: watch them maybe when they aired, and then I eventually stopped,
- 33:56Speaker 1: and I obviously saw cuts of the ones I directed.
- 33:57Speaker 1: I would probably seed them all up until nine, but
- 34:00Speaker 1: I never saw them again. And so this one, now
- 34:03Speaker 1: watching knowing what you know about Ben is really interesting.
- 34:06Speaker 1: It's really fun to watch. I reckon if you're not
- 34:07Speaker 1: watching these as we go back, if this would be
- 34:10Speaker 1: the one to do it, because once you know the
- 34:12Speaker 1: Ben reveal, it's fun to watch it and knowing what
- 34:15Speaker 1: you know it really is because when it happens, you
- 34:21Speaker 1: automatically know exactly what JD's talking about. First of all,
- 34:25Speaker 1: JD's kind of like a real cavalier about time too.
- 34:31Speaker 1: But also I was gonna say that I didn't. I
- 34:34Speaker 1: had trouble with the fact that jds cavalier. Through the
- 34:37Speaker 1: rest of the episode, he's kind of like joking around
- 34:40Speaker 1: and meanwhile his heroes best friend just died and he
- 34:45Speaker 1: was at the helm. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and it so
- 34:49Speaker 1: that was that was really interesting to me. I was like, Wow,
- 34:51Speaker 1: that's a I know they have to throw a misdirect
- 34:54Speaker 1: into in there somehow. I guess this is the way
- 34:56Speaker 1: to do it, because if you're a if JD's affected
- 34:59Speaker 1: by this uh screw up, then we know that something
- 35:03Speaker 1: it's more than just you know, we think we'll think,
- 35:06Speaker 1: we'll know it's more than just the old guy that died.
- 35:09Speaker 1: It's it's got to be something bigger. It's really masterfully done.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Directed by Chris Kotch and written by Garret Donovan and
- 35:15Speaker 1: Neil Goldman. It's it's all the writing and direction are
- 35:20Speaker 1: pretty amazing. So let's go to the top. Yeah, this aired,
- 35:23Speaker 1: by the way, on February twenty fourth, two thousand and four. Wow,
- 35:27Speaker 1: just if you want to sixteen think about think about
- 35:30Speaker 1: your life sixteen years ago, sixteen years ago. What were
- 35:32Speaker 1: you doing in February twenty fourth, two thousand and four, listener,
- 35:37Speaker 1: The divorce was like in effect, like I was in
- 35:39Speaker 1: a we were we were in courtroom times. I was
- 35:43Speaker 1: this is like, this is like we are doing it
- 35:45Speaker 1: now this I had moved out by this point. My
- 35:49Speaker 1: film came out. Garden State came out in two thousand
- 35:52Speaker 1: and four after this, though, Yeah, it was I think
- 35:56Speaker 1: fall or or must have been octobersh or maybe the
- 36:00Speaker 1: summer was this. This was our biggest season two, right,
- 36:04Speaker 1: I think season two is the highest ranked. I don't know, Joel,
- 36:08Speaker 1: can you look that up for us? What was the
- 36:10Speaker 1: highest rank season? I believe I read on on scrubs Wiki,
- 36:12Speaker 1: by the way, Scrub's wiki. You guys know, I always
- 36:15Speaker 1: talk about it, but it's it's got a lot for
- 36:17Speaker 1: this episode. If you're into that sort of thing, if
- 36:19Speaker 1: you want to do a deep dive on interpretations of
- 36:21Speaker 1: all the every day of so many moments that I
- 36:24Speaker 1: don't even know if Bill thought of or Kneel and Garrett.
- 36:27Speaker 1: But there's like, why is that poster behind Ben? It
- 36:29Speaker 1: must mean that anyway, Mickhead more important than anything. Mickhead
- 36:34Speaker 1: has his first line, Donald thanks nurses Pinoza. Yeah, he
- 36:37Speaker 1: doesn't say, that's it, and then he walks away. That
- 36:39Speaker 1: was his audition. That was his audition pretty much. That
- 36:42Speaker 1: was like, can you deliver this line? Now? We know
- 36:44Speaker 1: the characters just come back from huff huffing paint rehab. Yeah,
- 36:49Speaker 1: from paint which she'll never do again, which she'll never
- 36:53Speaker 1: do again. Well, he looks pretty healthy, you know, he's
- 36:56Speaker 1: just back from huffing paint rehab. And then he and
- 37:00Speaker 1: and he's but he's he's pretty back to being a
- 37:01Speaker 1: doctor's He looks like he's all right. He says, thanks
- 37:03Speaker 1: to Nurse Espinoza. Pretty well. Does does people know? Do
- 37:08Speaker 1: people know that that's Mickhead yet? Have people put two
- 37:11Speaker 1: and two together? Like we know because we know Frank
- 37:14Speaker 1: and we know that he played Mickhead, right, But has
- 37:18Speaker 1: the audience put two and two together yet? Has the
- 37:20Speaker 1: audience said, oh, that's the Mickhead character. I don't know,
- 37:23Speaker 1: we talk about Mickhead. I don't know that they know
- 37:25Speaker 1: that that's Mickhead, that that's Mickhead. Because when I realized
- 37:29Speaker 1: that that was Mickhead, and I'm on the freaking show.
- 37:31Speaker 1: Right when I realized that was with Mickhead was when
- 37:34Speaker 1: he tried to kill his wife's later way later, adding
- 37:40Speaker 1: paint relapse. Something must have happened, right, God, huffing paint
- 37:44Speaker 1: is a joke, bizarre addiction. How did that happen? Who
- 37:49Speaker 1: was like, I'm gonna spray all this paint in this bag,
- 37:51Speaker 1: all right, We'll put it in this bag, and I'm
- 37:54Speaker 1: gonna try and breathe all of the paint in the
- 37:57Speaker 1: bag into my motherfucking knows, Yeah, and I'm gonna try.
- 38:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna breathe and breathe and breathe and breathe and breathe.
- 38:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna see what happens. But it's what motherfucker was
- 38:07Speaker 1: just sitting there like it's one thing to get you high,
- 38:13Speaker 1: but to be like, m let me go get some
- 38:15Speaker 1: fucking blue, right, I need more paint? All right? So
- 38:21Speaker 1: Joel just told us in the chat that season two
- 38:23Speaker 1: is the highest rated, followed by season three. So your
- 38:26Speaker 1: wife's not taking your name. Now, this happened in your
- 38:28Speaker 1: real life because your wife didn't take your name. Did
- 38:31Speaker 1: that upset you, Well, it was kind of like a
- 38:34Speaker 1: sabotage thing with me. So with this, she's telling him
- 38:38Speaker 1: way before the wedding, so there's like a cushion he
- 38:41Speaker 1: could He has an opportunity to be like, well, I
- 38:43Speaker 1: don't want to do this, or he can say you
- 38:45Speaker 1: know what, he can get over it and I will.
- 38:47Speaker 1: You know, I'm gonna go turking. We'll go through it
- 38:51Speaker 1: with my wife. We were at the courthouse signing the
- 38:56Speaker 1: license and I'm like, Donald Faison and her name is
- 38:59Speaker 1: gonna be Casey, and she goes cob oh shit. And
- 39:03Speaker 1: I was like and I was like, no, but this
- 39:06Speaker 1: is the marriage part. We're going Casey Phazon, this is
- 39:09Speaker 1: the courthouse, this is the time in the place. And
- 39:12Speaker 1: they're like, no, we're gonna she was like, she was
- 39:14Speaker 1: like cop. She's like, but what I will do is
- 39:17Speaker 1: I'll make it so that if I do decide to
- 39:21Speaker 1: change it, we don't have to go through all of
- 39:22Speaker 1: this legal legal paperwork and stuff like that. It's like
- 39:25Speaker 1: once it's like a one sign thing, and then she
- 39:28Speaker 1: can change her name, like to change your last name
- 39:30Speaker 1: after the marriage thing. It's like this whole big thing.
- 39:33Speaker 1: But if you sign, if you do a couple of
- 39:34Speaker 1: things while you're there, you can make it a little
- 39:37Speaker 1: bit less strenuous to change your last name. So she
- 39:41Speaker 1: dangled it. She dangled it in front of me to
- 39:43Speaker 1: keep me from saying, we'll fuck this shit. I'm not
- 39:45Speaker 1: want to get married in oh shit. She's like, no, no no, no, no, no, wait,
- 39:49Speaker 1: before we before you get all upset in all puffy chest,
- 39:53Speaker 1: here is what I'm going to do for you. There's
- 39:56Speaker 1: a possibility that i'll change it later. I'll make it
- 39:59Speaker 1: so that it's not a problem for me to do that. Okay, Well,
- 40:03Speaker 1: you know, h I complicated, right, No, I like that
- 40:09Speaker 1: old tradition. I understand why women are more of a
- 40:11Speaker 1: more over it like why you don't own me? Why
- 40:13Speaker 1: am I taking your fucking name? But I think that
- 40:16Speaker 1: there's I guess there's. It's one old school tradition I
- 40:20Speaker 1: really liked. But it's not it's not up to the
- 40:23Speaker 1: man anymore. It's very calm. I have quite a few friends,
- 40:28Speaker 1: as you know, I spend a lot of time in
- 40:30Speaker 1: Sweden over the last twelve thirteen years. And yeah, for sure,
- 40:34Speaker 1: from I know a lot of Swedish guys. There are
- 40:38Speaker 1: friends of mine that got married and took their wives names. Wow,
- 40:41Speaker 1: we heard them correctly, don't yea. So I'm just gonna
- 40:46Speaker 1: start calling me Donald cop Donald Cop. By the way,
- 40:49Speaker 1: I'm gonna call you Donald Cob from now on. Already
- 40:53Speaker 1: already got already got a white person's last name. I
- 40:55Speaker 1: don't need another white person. I feel like another white
- 41:00Speaker 1: person's last name name. Are you fucking kidding me? What
- 41:05Speaker 1: about That's that sounds African to you? What about Frankie Fair?
- 41:09Speaker 1: That just means we came from the same plantation, Joshua
- 41:12Speaker 1: Raydon Come on now, come on now, I don't know.
- 41:15Speaker 1: On now, they don't notice y'all don't know Wait hard
- 41:18Speaker 1: on now, how come they ain't no black Washington. How
- 41:21Speaker 1: come they no white Washington's? How come they know white Jefferson's.
- 41:24Speaker 1: You know a white Jefferson? You know a white person
- 41:26Speaker 1: with the last name Jefferson. I don't know a white
- 41:28Speaker 1: person with the last name Washington, white person. I know?
- 41:31Speaker 1: Why is that? Why is that? I don't know? Pason
- 41:37Speaker 1: could have been like a made up I didn't I
- 41:39Speaker 1: hear what you're saying. I know, I know what you're
- 41:41Speaker 1: saying about slaves taking their master's names. There's a phase
- 41:45Speaker 1: on North Carolina. Where do you think my ancestors parked
- 41:49Speaker 1: when they got when they got taken from Africa. I
- 41:52Speaker 1: didn't know that. I didn't know. There's a raid in Poland,
- 41:54Speaker 1: and I think that's where possibly my name comes from.
- 41:57Speaker 1: It is very possible that you are that one of
- 42:00Speaker 1: your Radinsky or Radinovich, you know something. I always imagine
- 42:04Speaker 1: my name was longer like Braftberg or Brafowitz or but
- 42:09Speaker 1: you could probably there probably is a town or something
- 42:12Speaker 1: like that. There is somewhere where your name originated. And
- 42:16Speaker 1: it's not necessarily a person. It's like the right, am
- 42:19Speaker 1: I correct me if I'm right? It sounds like about right. No,
- 42:22Speaker 1: Like all my grandparents have unfortunately passed away, so I
- 42:25Speaker 1: don't really have a great resource to find out where
- 42:29Speaker 1: my relatives are from. But I think it's probably Polish German,
- 42:34Speaker 1: like I I imagine, like you know, somebody like you know,
- 42:37Speaker 1: I'm making up a name, but somebody like Jason York
- 42:41Speaker 1: was from York in England back in the day, and
- 42:45Speaker 1: when having to describe himself, I'm Jason from York and
- 42:49Speaker 1: then he became Jason York, you know what I mean, Like,
- 42:51Speaker 1: I imagine that's how the shit probably happened. So all right,
- 42:54Speaker 1: well we learned that JD has a Piniona helmet. And
- 42:57Speaker 1: not only does he have a Pinona helmet, he had
- 43:00Speaker 1: his own SpongeBob SquarePants costume, which he says was a
- 43:04Speaker 1: gift from me to me. Yes, yes, can I Why
- 43:10Speaker 1: does JD have? How many times has JD been hitting
- 43:12Speaker 1: the head? He is a helmet that's specifically for pinata parties, Yeah,
- 43:21Speaker 1: because he that one. There was that one time or
- 43:24Speaker 1: several or maybe twice and he's like, you know what,
- 43:27Speaker 1: I gotta get my bona helmet. So so here's an
- 43:32Speaker 1: interesting Ben is back. He's not treating He's not treating
- 43:36Speaker 1: his cancer. As we told you last time Brendan was on.
- 43:44Speaker 1: He was actually he is a super big photographer and
- 43:48Speaker 1: had all sorts of really cool cameras and this one
- 43:51Speaker 1: for those camera geeks out there, He's got a polaroid
- 43:53Speaker 1: back on a on a Holga, which is something I
- 43:56Speaker 1: hadn't even ever seen before. I had to google that
- 43:58Speaker 1: it was a real thing. But Holga is a very
- 44:01Speaker 1: cheap plastic camera that people love because if you put
- 44:04Speaker 1: film in it, it takes really cool interesting it has
- 44:08Speaker 1: a plastic lens. It's really cheap. And then he put
- 44:10Speaker 1: a polaroid back on it, which you alaber. Yeah, I
- 44:15Speaker 1: get the moments because people know I love cameras and
- 44:17Speaker 1: they're not that expensive. It's a great gift. Yeah, I
- 44:19Speaker 1: didn't have any money, and I know you're like cameras. Yeah,
- 44:22Speaker 1: I got like forty holgas. If you want one, I'll
- 44:23Speaker 1: give you one back for Hank. It's kidding. And then
- 44:27Speaker 1: so the polaroid back is is it? I don't know.
- 44:29Speaker 1: I've never seen it, and then I googled. Yeah, but
- 44:30Speaker 1: they don't even make that film anymore unfortunately anywhere. That's
- 44:34Speaker 1: just a moment for the camera geeks. And anyway, my
- 44:37Speaker 1: point is is that later on Ben says I'll take
- 44:41Speaker 1: pictures until the day I die. Wow, And then the
- 44:45Speaker 1: second he first appears and as a hallucination, he no
- 44:48Speaker 1: longer has the camera ever again at all at all. Wow.
- 44:51Speaker 1: I didn't until you said that. I didn't even I
- 44:54Speaker 1: didn't put that together. I got that from Scrubs wiki.
- 44:58Speaker 1: I have to there's a few things that were cool
- 45:01Speaker 1: that I didn't even know, and that that was one
- 45:03Speaker 1: of them. This is some sixth cent shit, I'm telling you, man. Yeah, well,
- 45:06Speaker 1: the obvious thing is that no one, no one sees
- 45:08Speaker 1: Ben other than Cox because once he's dead, And when
- 45:14Speaker 1: you go back and watch, it's really clever. How how
- 45:16Speaker 1: Chris Cotch directed all of that. It's very very well done.
- 45:20Speaker 1: There's a whole interaction with Sarah where he's pretending to
- 45:22Speaker 1: be a public mass. Amazing physical comedy by both him
- 45:25Speaker 1: and Sarah. And then when she walks away and he's
- 45:27Speaker 1: still holding onto the string, imaginary string and he falls
- 45:31Speaker 1: off of the counter amazing physical comedy by Brendan Fraser. Yeah.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Brendan was so good in this episode, so good, so good.
- 45:38Speaker 1: He's just so freaking charming. That guy he is, he
- 45:41Speaker 1: is and and and I'm gonna I'm gonna be honest
- 45:44Speaker 1: with you. The doctor Kelso storyline is so important for
- 45:49Speaker 1: this episode. It's so important because it's the hard, this
- 45:53Speaker 1: hard character who softens at the end, right, And when
- 45:58Speaker 1: he softens, that's when we as an audience also are
- 46:05Speaker 1: let in on the big reveal that Ben's Ben's dead
- 46:08Speaker 1: and he's been dead for a while, and that I
- 46:12Speaker 1: personally feel like I don't think that would be as
- 46:17Speaker 1: impactful if you don't see a journey throughout the show,
- 46:21Speaker 1: because there is no journey throughout the show in this
- 46:24Speaker 1: other you know what I mean, there's no journey. Ben's
- 46:26Speaker 1: there in the beginning and he's dead. There's no journey
- 46:29Speaker 1: for Cox Cox. There's nothing for Cox really to accept
- 46:31Speaker 1: other than the fact that his that his best friend's
- 46:33Speaker 1: dead and everything. There's no journey for him. There's no
- 46:36Speaker 1: journey for jd. There's no journey for anyway. The only
- 46:38Speaker 1: person that has a journey in this is Kelso and
- 46:41Speaker 1: his Kelso, and Kelso's journey is so important that it's
- 46:46Speaker 1: it has to land at the end for Ben's death
- 46:50Speaker 1: to be even more impactful. You know what I mean?
- 46:55Speaker 1: I do is it the first time Kelso's shown any
- 46:57Speaker 1: heart at all? Because there's a moment in the closet
- 46:59Speaker 1: where Judy says it's been a hard week. Now. The
- 47:03Speaker 1: audience first time through assumes that's solely because she's arguing
- 47:06Speaker 1: with you about stuff. They don't realize that she's also
- 47:09Speaker 1: processing this death. And then then we know Kelso also
- 47:13Speaker 1: is processing this friends with Ben, but you know he
- 47:16Speaker 1: shows he I mean to me it was the first
- 47:18Speaker 1: time he showed real humanity at all. Right, And it's
- 47:22Speaker 1: so important for this, for this moment to land at
- 47:25Speaker 1: the end, because now he softened everybody up, He's given
- 47:30Speaker 1: everybody the he's he's made it, so everybody is a
- 47:33Speaker 1: relaxed Oh, this is a great ending for scrubs where
- 47:37Speaker 1: I feel fuzzy inside. And so then when you get
- 47:40Speaker 1: punched in the gut that we're at the we're at
- 47:43Speaker 1: a funeral at the end, and Josh's song starts to play,
- 47:48Speaker 1: it's even more impactful. But it's because of Ken's storyline.
- 47:52Speaker 1: It's because of Kelso's storyline and how well he plays
- 47:55Speaker 1: it at the end, the end, the closet with Carla,
- 47:59Speaker 1: it's so so I wanted to mention that Randall Winston's
- 48:02Speaker 1: credit comes up at the exact moment that Leonard the
- 48:07Speaker 1: security guard is mentioned. Wow, so someone cleverly timed it.
- 48:12Speaker 1: So just as we're talking about Leonard the security guard
- 48:14Speaker 1: and his afro and his hook hand, Randall's credit comes up.
- 48:18Speaker 1: Because have you ever done that? What timed it? So
- 48:21Speaker 1: when your name comes up a specific no usually key
- 48:25Speaker 1: or music key or a you know whatever, a music
- 48:30Speaker 1: note or whatever, whatever well I'm going in style was
- 48:33Speaker 1: the first time a first feature I directed that had
- 48:35Speaker 1: the full hundred piece orchestra score. So I think when
- 48:39Speaker 1: my card comes at the end, directed by I made
- 48:42Speaker 1: sure that there was a hundred piece orchestra flourish because
- 48:48Speaker 1: like in some movies. In some movies, like you'll see
- 48:51Speaker 1: like in Eddie Murphy movies are great for it, Like
- 48:53Speaker 1: the beginning of The Golden Child, there's all of this
- 48:55Speaker 1: montage stuff and then when Eddie Murphy shows up, you
- 48:57Speaker 1: see Eddie Murphy, like he turns to camera just like
- 49:00Speaker 1: a sitcom damn Near and he had the big smile
- 49:03Speaker 1: on his face, and it's like Eddie Murphy the Golden Ship,
- 49:05Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like I wonder. I wonder,
- 49:08Speaker 1: like even even when directors or well music people, when
- 49:12Speaker 1: they when their title card comes up, do they put
- 49:15Speaker 1: a little spruce in it? Maybe, you know, maybe subliminate.
- 49:18Speaker 1: The credits are added so much later after you've locked
- 49:21Speaker 1: and and there's and there's a there's an order that
- 49:24Speaker 1: everyone has to go and just per contracts, So it
- 49:27Speaker 1: would be pretty tricky to do it after the fact
- 49:30Speaker 1: unless you planned on doing it. I don't mean I
- 49:32Speaker 1: don't mean to imply that they cut this to Randall's picture.
- 49:36Speaker 1: I just mean it probably was close, and then it
- 49:38Speaker 1: was kind of like, you know, if we fledget a
- 49:40Speaker 1: few seconds, it'll because in the beginning of scrubs, for
- 49:42Speaker 1: those of you never I mean, I don't think we've
- 49:44Speaker 1: ever discussed this. They have to do all these opening
- 49:46Speaker 1: credits because you know, I mean, that's that's just part
- 49:49Speaker 1: of the rules, the contracts, the guild rules and everything,
- 49:52Speaker 1: and they can be distracting. So there's times when they'll
- 49:57Speaker 1: pause them for a few seconds if a joke is
- 50:00Speaker 1: playing out to not upstage the joke, and then they'll
- 50:02Speaker 1: bring them back in and it's just very subtle. The
- 50:05Speaker 1: audience wouldn't really notice it. So I'm just saying they
- 50:07Speaker 1: may have fudged it a little bit, so it timed
- 50:09Speaker 1: out perfectly. As he's mentioned, Carla hates Turk's mole his
- 50:13Speaker 1: tickle button. Yeah, I imagine that's a lot of people's
- 50:18Speaker 1: first reaction. I remember one time I was at my
- 50:22Speaker 1: best friend's house we were kids, and her dad kept
- 50:26Speaker 1: looking at me like really weird, like staring really hard
- 50:29Speaker 1: at my face, and I kept looking back at him like, hey,
- 50:34Speaker 1: is everything okay? And he kept staring so hard, and
- 50:39Speaker 1: finally he was like, I'm sorry, man, but what the
- 50:42Speaker 1: fuck is that on your face? Oh? My god? And
- 50:46Speaker 1: I was like what He was like, what the fuck
- 50:50Speaker 1: is that on your face? You got some shit on
- 50:52Speaker 1: your face? What a dick? He thought was food or something.
- 50:58Speaker 1: He thought I had like doo doo oh on my lip.
- 51:02Speaker 1: It feels a little bad. I want to hug a
- 51:04Speaker 1: baby dude, who live donald? I laughed so hard at
- 51:09Speaker 1: that moment. Oh, really, you weren't upset. I would have
- 51:11Speaker 1: been upset. No, I was old enough. I was like sixteen.
- 51:16Speaker 1: It was that embarrassed. Later it was like, it was like, dude,
- 51:20Speaker 1: what do you You've known me my whole life and
- 51:22Speaker 1: you don't You've never noticed this before. He's known me
- 51:25Speaker 1: before puberty. He knew me before everything, and he never
- 51:28Speaker 1: noticed that I had a mole off. It's embarrassing, though, though,
- 51:31Speaker 1: don't you think, like, were you always awkward around that guy?
- 51:33Speaker 1: From then on, I would feel so like cringey. No,
- 51:36Speaker 1: not at all. Man. When I arrived in Northwestern, I
- 51:38Speaker 1: had just done Manhattan Murder Mystery one scene. As I
- 51:41Speaker 1: think I mentioned before, I was Woody Allen. Yeah, I
- 51:45Speaker 1: was their son, and this kid I was always a
- 51:48Speaker 1: good friend of mine. I really liked him. And we
- 51:52Speaker 1: were walking and he's and we start talking about manhatt
- 51:55Speaker 1: murder mystery, and he said, supposedly that kid who plays
- 51:58Speaker 1: the son goes to school here, and I kind of chuckled,
- 52:02Speaker 1: and he went, I didn't really think he was that
- 52:03Speaker 1: good though, And it was clear he hadn't seen the movie. Dude.
- 52:07Speaker 1: I thought he was doing a bit, but he wasn't,
- 52:11Speaker 1: and it told we weren't really able to ever recover. Yeah,
- 52:15Speaker 1: but it was. It was clearly, dude, he hadn't seen
- 52:18Speaker 1: the movie though. No, I think he'd seen the movie.
- 52:20Speaker 1: There's no way he'd seen the movie and not recognized you,
- 52:23Speaker 1: though I don't. I just don't. Maybe I didn't have
- 52:25Speaker 1: the same haircut and he just didn't put two. Dude,
- 52:27Speaker 1: I'm telling you. It was so cringing and awkward that
- 52:29Speaker 1: our friendship died a quick death. Oh, dude, that's nothing.
- 52:33Speaker 1: I remember sitting in a movie theater freaking behind two
- 52:36Speaker 1: ladies watching Wait and Exhale, and there throughout the movie
- 52:39Speaker 1: talking about how much they love the movie. Oh, this
- 52:41Speaker 1: is such a great movie. I'm quiet behind them, just
- 52:44Speaker 1: enjoying the ride with them and everything like that, laughing
- 52:47Speaker 1: when they're laughing, and then I come on screen and
- 52:50Speaker 1: my scene's over and they go, yeah, I don't like him.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Though the movie's good, he is not. And I remember
- 52:58Speaker 1: being like, oh, and that's when you just fade right back,
- 53:01Speaker 1: and that's like real time trolling, real time trolling, right
- 53:05Speaker 1: in my face. It happened in my Oh my god.
- 53:07Speaker 1: All right. On that note, we're gonna go to break
- 53:09Speaker 1: and we come back. We're gonna have a guest who,
- 53:10Speaker 1: hopefully we'll have questions for Josh Raiding, will be right
- 53:13Speaker 1: back after these fine ones, and we're bae. Bring him in, Donald,
- 53:25Speaker 1: I mean, bring him in, Daniel, no problem, Josh, you're excited.
- 53:28Speaker 1: It's your first guest caller on the Scrubs Rewatch program.
- 53:35Speaker 1: Lena is joining Lena. Lena. Ladies and gentlemen, give it
- 53:39Speaker 1: up for Lena. Lena, Lena, Lena. Everybody rad that's the
- 53:47Speaker 1: Joshua Radon Lena. Hi, Hi, Lena, Welcome to the program.
- 53:52Speaker 1: That's Donald, Phazon, Joel, Monique, Joshua, Raydon, Daniel's and a
- 53:57Speaker 1: broken camera. Lena. If you're ever in the market for
- 53:59Speaker 1: a webcam. Do not buy the Imaging Edge webcam. It
- 54:02Speaker 1: doesn't work. Apparently the Imaging Edge webcam is really expensive. Yeah,
- 54:08Speaker 1: but it doesn't Ever if I would, if I had
- 54:10Speaker 1: the time, I would go on Amazon and give it
- 54:12Speaker 1: one star. Well, my webcam was about forty nine dollars
- 54:16Speaker 1: and it's doing great. Well, maybe I do send good. Yeah,
- 54:19Speaker 1: you look great. Do you notice how Lena we're able
- 54:24Speaker 1: to see you. Yeah, Daniel's webcam didn't come with that feature.
- 54:29Speaker 1: Oh and hear that, Daniel. Yeah, you guys need merch webcams. Yeah,
- 54:36Speaker 1: you have every merch thing that is known to man.
- 54:40Speaker 1: We're gonna sell fake Doctor's Real Friends webcams, but they're
- 54:43Speaker 1: not coming with them, not gonna We're not going to
- 54:46Speaker 1: source them from Imaging EdgeCAM Edge web I I'm still
- 54:49Speaker 1: trying to get my hands on the onesie, so I
- 54:51Speaker 1: have to wait on the webcam when restock to Joel,
- 54:55Speaker 1: do you know I'm working on that. But I'll give
- 54:57Speaker 1: you guys an update. No idea we had. We we
- 55:01Speaker 1: kind of thought it would be funny. We thought we
- 55:03Speaker 1: ordered six hundred because we were like, there's a lot
- 55:06Speaker 1: of people listening to this all over the world. Maybe
- 55:08Speaker 1: maybe we'll sell six hundred eventually, and and that won't
- 55:11Speaker 1: be too many to order. And they were gone in
- 55:13Speaker 1: twenty four hours, all of them. Yes, I can't even
- 55:16Speaker 1: get one for my for my for my family, my wife.
- 55:20Speaker 1: The seame of it is, we have a PJA day
- 55:22Speaker 1: coming up at work? And where do you work? Where
- 55:25Speaker 1: do you work? I'm a nurse. Oh shit, it got real.
- 55:31Speaker 1: It just got interesting. Where where you working at? Yeah?
- 55:36Speaker 1: So I'm working for the largest healthcare organization in western Pennsylvania,
- 55:42Speaker 1: So anyone from Pittsburgh will know exactly who I'm talking about.
- 55:46Speaker 1: That's where I work. Oh, so you're going to be
- 55:48Speaker 1: one of the first to get the vaccine. So I'm
- 55:51Speaker 1: in home care. So the vaccine will go to the
- 55:53Speaker 1: acute care staff first in the hospital. That started yesterday
- 55:57Speaker 1: and actually my organization was the first to give it,
- 56:01Speaker 1: and then home care will be the second round. Okay,
- 56:04Speaker 1: so February, I hope, sooner than that. They're sitting by
- 56:09Speaker 1: the end of January. Okay. Yeah, when you stay at
- 56:12Speaker 1: home care, do you mean you care for people in
- 56:14Speaker 1: their homes? Correct, So we take care of people who
- 56:17Speaker 1: either came out of the hospital. So are COVID patients
- 56:20Speaker 1: who come out of the hospital. Really they're really deconditioned,
- 56:23Speaker 1: so they really take more therapy than nurses. But what's
- 56:27Speaker 1: also happening is that we are so understaffed in the hospitals, understaffed.
- 56:32Speaker 1: In home care, we're running out of beds, so unfortunately,
- 56:35Speaker 1: they're having to send patients home from the hospital faster
- 56:38Speaker 1: than they should. So in home care, we're now taking
- 56:41Speaker 1: care of people with central lines, chess tubes, chemo, and
- 56:46Speaker 1: so we've become an extension of acute care. And so
- 56:48Speaker 1: we're taking care of people trying to keep them out
- 56:50Speaker 1: of the hospital so that hospital beds are open for
- 56:53Speaker 1: the patients who really need it. So you're providing care
- 56:56Speaker 1: at how in the home? Yeah, how do you? How
- 57:00Speaker 1: do you staff a team large enough to take care
- 57:06Speaker 1: of all of the people that you're sourcing now out
- 57:09Speaker 1: of the hospital because they're running out, Well, they have
- 57:15Speaker 1: to stretch it some way. How are you stretching it
- 57:17Speaker 1: right now? So it's funny that you ask that, Donald,
- 57:20Speaker 1: And if I really figure out the right way to
- 57:24Speaker 1: do it, I'm going to write a book and I'm
- 57:26Speaker 1: going to be a trillionaire. And then I won't have
- 57:28Speaker 1: to be a nurse anymore. But here's what we're doing.
- 57:30Speaker 1: So I'm a supervisor. I actually am in the office
- 57:34Speaker 1: money through Friday, making sure that the nurses get the
- 57:36Speaker 1: ppe they need, that all of the patients who need
- 57:38Speaker 1: to be covered are covered. If we have to prioritize.
- 57:41Speaker 1: I'm the one who's picking who gets seen and who
- 57:43Speaker 1: doesn't get seen. So I'm also coordinating with the hospitals
- 57:47Speaker 1: to say, no, we're not taking anymore. You need to
- 57:49Speaker 1: find another home care. It's not a safe discharge. You
- 57:52Speaker 1: need to keep them. So then on the weekends, I'm
- 57:55Speaker 1: going out and seeing patients. So we're all just doing
- 57:57Speaker 1: the best that we can. And it's scary because our
- 57:59Speaker 1: pacient list is growing and our staff list is shrinking. Yeah,
- 58:04Speaker 1: I was seeing something today in LA that there there
- 58:07Speaker 1: there are people that are waiting in ambulances because there's
- 58:09Speaker 1: just there's no beds and LA is running out of
- 58:14Speaker 1: ICU beds, so they had people. There was something I read,
- 58:18Speaker 1: I think it was on Deadline about how they're literally
- 58:20Speaker 1: just the ambulances are pulling up and just holding people
- 58:23Speaker 1: because they just think there's a backlog. What are you
- 58:26Speaker 1: guys doing there. So I'm in Pittsburgh and we locked
- 58:30Speaker 1: down Saturday morning. We went back on lockdown, and they
- 58:33Speaker 1: were saying, don't have a stroke or a heart attack
- 58:37Speaker 1: in Pittsburgh because there's no ICU beds left, and that's
- 58:40Speaker 1: a really scary thought. So in home care, what we
- 58:43Speaker 1: are doing to help is if we can keep them
- 58:45Speaker 1: out of the hospital, we are so if that means
- 58:47Speaker 1: that we get telehealth, or we get a social worker,
- 58:49Speaker 1: or we get family involved, we're trying to critically think
- 58:52Speaker 1: and keep them out of the hospital. But at the
- 58:54Speaker 1: same time, I went about three weeks ago, patient was
- 58:59Speaker 1: discharged from the hospittle Friday night. I went in Saturday morning,
- 59:02Speaker 1: and I sent them right back to the hospital. So
- 59:04Speaker 1: it's just knowing what can I handle in the home,
- 59:07Speaker 1: what do I need to send back to the hospital.
- 59:09Speaker 1: It's getting the doctors on the phone and trying to
- 59:12Speaker 1: think and talk and figure out what we can do.
- 59:14Speaker 1: Because in home care, you're you're in the living room.
- 59:17Speaker 1: There's no X rays, there's no blood work, there's no
- 59:20Speaker 1: doctor that I can grab and say, hey, what do
- 59:22Speaker 1: you think? It's just a nurse standing in a living room.
- 59:24Speaker 1: So we're doing the best we can with the resources
- 59:27Speaker 1: we have. Our health system is huge. They have their
- 59:29Speaker 1: own insurance, they have their own long term care facilities.
- 59:32Speaker 1: So we're trying to think out, can we just get
- 59:34Speaker 1: this patient on telehealth and open them, open up a
- 59:36Speaker 1: nurse for another visit. Is this somebody who just needs
- 59:39Speaker 1: to go back to the hospital as much as I
- 59:40Speaker 1: hate to do that, So we're just doing the best
- 59:43Speaker 1: we can. We're critically thinking trying to get the patients
- 59:46Speaker 1: who can stay out of the hospital what they need,
- 59:48Speaker 1: and then get the patients who need to be in
- 59:50Speaker 1: the hospital into the hospital. Thank you so much for
- 59:54Speaker 1: what you're doing. And if you could, let's say you're
- 59:57Speaker 1: in a position like you are right now, where you
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: you speak to thousands and thousands and thousands of people
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: across the world, what would you tell them in terms
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: of from your point of view, what's the best thing
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: they could be doing to keep themselves healthy. Oh my gosh,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: I might actually start crying right now because an opportunity
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: that every nurse wishes they could have right now. Wear
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: your masks, even if you think it's stupid and it
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: doesn't work, What if there's a one percent chance that
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: you could protect your parents or your children or the neighbor.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: If there's a one percent chance that we are all
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: right and you should wear your mask, then why risk it?
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: So wear the mask. Only go out when you have to.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: If you do have to go out, be really smart
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: about it, Like I said, use that critical thinking and say, okay,
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: what can I outsource what? What? Maybe I can ask
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: my neighbors what they need and just one person can
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: make the trip the healthiest of us. I understand it's Christmas.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: I understand it, Tonic, I understand it's eed. I understand
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: that all of these beautiful holidays are happening and that
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: you want to be with your families. But this is
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: It's not a normal year. And the best gift that
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: you can give to the world right now, including your
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: own family, is to stay home if you can. And
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: if you can't be smart about it, be really smart
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: and really think it through. And if you don't believe it,
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: but there's a one percent chance we're all right, then
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: why risk it? Yeah? Beautifully said? Beautifully said, and right
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: from from someone on the front lines. I mean, you
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: guys all hear me and Donald talk about it, because
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: we lost a friend and Josh lost a friend as well.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: But but I think people are just used to hearing
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: it now and they roll their eyes. So to hear
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: it from from a nurse who is on the front
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: lines and seeing it day in and day out, I
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: really appreciate that. All right, any questions, I feel silly
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: to segue to this because you have a question. We
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: anything scrubs related anything, Josh. Yeah, So if I have
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: the opportunity for too, I'm gonna ask a scrubs question
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: and then I'm gonna ask a non scrubs questions. Okay, Oh,
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: that's okay, Josh. Josh is just happy to be here.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: He's happy to be eavesdropping. Wait, if you know any
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: nice women I found like a Jewish mother, if you
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: know any nice women in the LA area. He's wonderful,
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: he paints, he sings, Pittsburg. I'm available. Oh Josh, you
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: got a beautiful nurse right here for you. But I
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: don't think I was crazy, though, Yeah, I was a
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: crazy And also I just don't think Pittsburgh is going
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: to be where Josh plants his roots. But listen, and
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: I understand, but I don't. I'd be lucky to have you.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: Thank you. He's also a charmer Lena and nurses. Being
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: with the nurse is one of those things that you
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: hope you never need, but then if you suddenly do,
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: you're so glad they're there. I would I think that's
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: great to be with a nurse because you can because
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: I'm always like, what's this thing? What is this? Is this?
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: Am I gonna die from this? Josh and I am
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: the same doctor and we am and he's retiring actually,
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: But the thing I loved about him is like, if
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: I howked up a lugie, I could send him a
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: text of it and I'd be like joining antibiotics and
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: he'd be like, yes, and that's gross. Yep. I get
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: pictures you can't imagine, you know, some people worry about like, oh,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: there's going to be a dick pick. I can't like
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: about to say, gettures pops up on my phone? What
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: I get texted? Oh my god, we were talking about
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: Joel getting lots of inappropriate pictures. All right, what's your question?
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Go ahead? Oh my god? Are you talking about online
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: dating Joel? Yeah, I've gotten Yeah, I would like to
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: discuss this. Okay, let's be let's be respectful and tactful.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: She's a she's a classy woman. Absolutely, which apple you want?
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: Is it the tender that you're getting? All these in
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: I tried to do it right, and I went like
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: from match dot com, I pay the money and everything,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: and you you upload pictures, you describe yourself, and you
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: put this nice little narrative like, listen, I'm very busy.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: If you need a lot of attention, don't bother to
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: talk to me. This is what I'm looking for. And
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: then just the DM start and there will be things
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: out of like I had one that just said, I
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: bet you taste great scary screechy violins on that cow.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: I don't know if I could. I don't know if
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: I could do that. I don't know if I met
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: I think, don't you when you hear tales about how
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: gross fucking men are, don't you? Aren't you? Just like
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: I'm just always so, I mean, I know about this,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: but we men don't get sent I don't get I
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: don't I don't want and and and please don't start,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: Please don't don't want to hear these But when I
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: hear these tales, I don't. I just can't believe how
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: fucking gross men back dick picks aren't even the most shocking.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: That's not the it's the stuff they say to you.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: I don't get any of that stuff. Like I go
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: through my dms like looking for the ship, like let
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: you see. No, I don't want to dick pick. I
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: want to see what my fans are saying to me.
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: So sometimes i'll scroll through it and it'll be some
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: of the stuff I'm like, oh god, that's heart wrenching.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Oh my god, I shouldn't have opened this. Why did
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: I open this? And then some of it, it's like
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: some of it's like yo, man, fuck you man, Yo,
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: your your your podcast is shit. Man. All y'all do
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: is talk about shit on the right and on you
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: for you like you shit on the left. Y'all know
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: you know you need to be newscast train right. I'll
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: get I get a lot of that with the red
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: siren emoji. I'll tell you to make a nurse blush.
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: You have to you gotta really, you gotta really put
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: it out there. And some of the messages I've gotten
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: have made me blush. I have yet to get one
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: of those messages. I'm very happy that I've yet to
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: get one of those messages. I'm just having yet to
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: get one of those messages. The real question is, well,
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: not there's many questions I have about this, but when
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: you're asking how crazy men are, which is totally true,
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: it's it's insane. But I have female friends that have
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: told me things like that before, have stories like that,
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: and all these inappropriate messages, and you're like, my first
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: thought was, okay, so you're a guy who goes on
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: a match dot com and sends these inappropriate pictures or
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: messages wherever, Like, is there are you sending those to
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: like one hundred women hoping it one time it works?
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: There's it has to be this. It has to be that.
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: It's like fishing. They're they're hoping that they can't one.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: But I'm saying, like, if it's let's say it's one
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: out of five hundred, woman actually responds like are you won?
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: You won? We spoke about this earlier, that one women
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: woman is ruining for every other woman every especially if
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: it happens like in the first week or the first
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: you know a couple of times you try it where
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: you're like, here's a dick pick and you get the
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: response like, wow, I can't I know if that would
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: have happened to any they'd be like, I'm doing this
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: for the rest of the night. You watched that that
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: last Amy Schumer stand up special. But she had a
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: great She had great advice for women who get dick pics.
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: And she said, if you get a dick pic, send
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: back a picture of a bigger dick. When he when
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: he responds, what's this, you just go, oh, sorry, I
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: just thought we were sending pictures of cool dicks. I
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: don't think. I don't think. When you get a text,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: you have time to think of the response. You don't
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: have to be really clever, really fast. So it gives
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: you the opportunity with to come up with something great.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: So I had a guy, and feel free to censor
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: this if you'd like to. But I don't say his name.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: We don't want a sense or anything. I don't I
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: don't remember his name, one of a thousand who. I
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: opened it up and it said when's the last time
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: you got ben over and made come hard? Oh? And
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: it was all misspelled, which is super hot. And so
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: I respond to ask your brother. I think he wrote
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: down the date. Wow, Okay, it gives you time, like
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: I got it. I to have some coffee, think about it.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: How do I want to respond to that? All right?
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: As fun as that is, Lena, I don't know that
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: you shouldn't. I mean, if I wouldn't engage, not to
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: be paternal. I don't think you should engage because they
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: can be scared. Okay, Oh yeah, I was about to say,
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: you gotta I'm gonna say, Lena, you're such a You're
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: a nurse, You're a very beautiful woman. I feel like, Joel,
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: we could if you want, we could put your well,
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: I don't know if that's going to encourage it. I'm
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: trying to if you're in the Pittsburgh area, how can
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: what do we do? We can put your Instagram on
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: our show notes or something you can that's gonna I'm
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: trying to help everybody calm down, isn't We're not We're
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: not even that fixed your life yet. We haven't even
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: gotten The show is gonna be so fucking long. But
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: I just wanted to say, Lena, I don't want to
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: encourage that behavior, but gosh, I wish I could set
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: you up with someone. Oh no, that's fine. I'm so
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: busy right now. Okay, you're busy business. What's your question?
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: Can handling COVID man have some romance. Everyone's got time
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: for the a little bit of romance. All right, go ahead, Lena, Sorry,
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: what's your question? So my question is for Zack and Donald.
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: So let's say that somebody says, I want to make
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: a movie about the making of Scrubs, how it came
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: to fruition, behind the scenes. What young actors now are
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: playing YouTube in your mid twenties. Oh wow, good question,
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: great question. Well, I would play myself, obviously, I mean black,
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: don't crack, you know. Yeah, so I think Ben Platt
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: would play me. Oh that's a good answer because I
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: like so it would be me and Ben Platt pretty much.
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: Yea and more musical episodes two. Ben Platt has a
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: beautiful voice, so I would sound even better when I
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: sang and and I think he does. I saw him
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: and Jeremon Hanson and he and obviously he's playing a
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: a very different character. But but there were a lot
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: of JDI isms that I liked and saw and respected.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: I think he's very talented. Donald's come out a kid,
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: the kid from Stranger Things. Man, that's my dude. Okay, Yeah,
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: although he's a teenager, you need to be he's getting
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: he's getting he's almost eighteen. Man, boy got mustache and everything.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: Now he's growing up. Okay, he's getting taught. There you go.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: There is your scrubs behind the scenes movie cast right there.
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: All right, what's your next question? You said you had
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: another one. Yeah, so I'm actually working on my doctorate
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: and nursing. Sorry, Joel, this is not the question I
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: told you, but I promise it's pc. Okay, you were
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: on your doctor and nursing. That's so awesome. Do not
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: apologize to me. And you don't have to love. You
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: don't have to censor yourself. You know we liked anything inappropriate.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: I'm my doctorate project is on decreasing the stress in
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: our frontline managers, so the managers who are between the
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: patient care staff and the executive managements. So these are
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: our frontline managers. So my question for all of you,
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: especially right now, is what are you guys doing to
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: decrease your stress? Drinking lots of pino noir, going outside.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: I like going. I broke my toe. I was if
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: you listen to podcast, you know I was cycling a lot.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: The peloton was a great source of leaving stress for me.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: I broke my toe. So I'm a little on time
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: out with exercise cardio. But I've been going to the
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: dog park. We have a big dog park near us,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: and I love I get endorphins when I go and
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: watch my dogs print around the dog park, and I
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: don't know those are and those are my first ones
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: that come to mind. What about you, Josh, We know
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: that you're you're hiking. Hiking. Yeah, I like walking around
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: in nature as much as I can and reading and
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: you know, just just getting through it, basically getting through it.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: Lost Donald, What happened to Donald? It's like your question
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: dropped out, Daniel will deal with that. Joel, Joel, what
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: is your answer to the question? It was like doing
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: Christmas things. It's like, which sounds crazy, but like you
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: have to go all over the place, and like it
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: was like researching with a friend and then like calling
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: shops to see how we could do it safely and
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: is like in the spirit of giving back, And it
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: was like it was a great way to like both
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: like physically get myself out of the house because I
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: you know, I'm an anxious person. I have ah D
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: and it like going outside a pre pandemic. Well, like
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: I have social anxiety post pandemic, being inside so much
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: now it's like just going to my friend's house is
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: like four or five times much higher. I'm so anxious.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: So having like a goal something to do, a partner
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: that I know has been safe throughout this whole thing
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: to go do it with it's been like the greatest
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: dress reliever. And then now I get to send people
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: packages and they were going to open them on Zoom,
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: and there's a whole like giving back like aspect of
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: it that I'm just really excited to participate in. So
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: Christmas season for the wind, I agree that, you know,
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: there is I am having a lot of fun buying
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: presents for people and and and then we took a lot.
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: We had a lot of joy in decorating the house
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: and getting I've never done a real full out Christmas
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: because I'm Jewish, or at least I'm not. I'm secular,
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: but you know, we just never did it. And yeah,
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: congrats on your Christmas tree. Yeah we went all out.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: We went all out, and uh, it's it's fun. I'm
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: having that is, you know, decorating the house and making
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: it all super cozy has been has been a source
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: of joy how's it going with Donald there, Daniel? He
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: has not responded, well, Daniel, what do you do to distress?
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: What do I do to destress? You know, I am
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: a big fan of electronic music. I really like biking,
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: riding my bicycle, and so there are times usually after work,
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: usually laid at night, I would say around ten pm.
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: I have a very flat neighborhood, and so it's also
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: very quiet at night, not a lot of cars. So
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: I'll throw it in my helmet, throw on some headphones,
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: turn the light onto my bike, and I will just
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: do laps around my neighborhood, blasting drum and bass in
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: my ears and just going as hard as possible and
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: letting the music just like plow through me like I'm
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: in an action film. I always feel like I'm being
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: chased by like the bad guys in the Matrix. Whenever
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: I'm like biking around my neighborhood just listening to super
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: super fast electronic music. I come home. I'm exhausted, I've
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: sweat dripping all over me, and I just feel, you know,
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: alive and released and just like loose and it's it
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: feels great. It feels great. I would think that that
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: would I mean, that sounds awesome, but I would think
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: that would amp you all up. You'd come home like
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: all like, there's definitely a degree. It's also I really
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: try to do that when I am really trying to
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: get rid of stress. So I'm already kind of tensed
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: up and ready to go and working it out. Yes,
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: gets my heart rate going, but also it just helps
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: me release that stress. So while there's still like a
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: worked up heart rate and stuff, there's a much more
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: turned down mental state that's like, Okay, we are released
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: from this, we are done, and now we can just
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: move on with the night and go take a hot
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: shower and you know, have a glass of something and
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: go to bed. Yeah, how about you, Lena, what do
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: you do? You? Cut? You? I mean you you're writing
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: this dissertation, right, is that what it is? So when
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: you're a nurse, you're it's called a scholarly project and
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: it actually lasts the entire five semesters of doctor at school.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: So I've just completed my first semester. So all I've
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: had to do at this point is just come up
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: with the idea and turn that in and say this
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: is the background of why this is a problem in nursing.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: I haven't got to the actual like getting it approved
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: or putting together the actual study design, and I think
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: and then actually having the experiment I think will be
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: the really stressful part. But so for now, the stressful
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: part is So I'm a I'm a mom, I'm a
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: full time doctorate student, and i'm a single mom of
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'm a nurse. I'm a doctorate student, and
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: i'm a single mom of two active teenage girls. A
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: lot on your plate. So I'm busy, and so you know,
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: I'm sorry, sorry, sorry to interrupt you, Daniel, he's waiting
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: to be let back in Donald. There we go, Oh,
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: there he is, right, Stop talking about him, Stop talking
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: about him. Hearing you what happened? Not a good signal
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: in that closet. Yeah, I can't tell you what I
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: do to relieve stress. That's all that's my business. She's
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: a nurse, and it's very healthy, right, but it's normal.
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: It's normal, right, it's normal. Right, it's normal though, right,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: it is normal, Lena is not It is probably abnormal
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: for a forty six year old man to have the
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: libido of a sixteen year old, right, No, no, yeah,
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: she's shaking her head. You're normal, that's a normal. Yeah,
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: that's what I told you. I told you and my
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: wife that shit. But nobody wanted to listen to me, Lena.
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: Nobody wanted to listen to me. Everybody is like, no,
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: there's something wrong with you. There's something wrong with you,
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: and there's something wrong with your insides, and you need
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: to see therapy. You need to see therapy. You need
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: to go talk to somebody about your freaking libido. Well,
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: maybe Lena can. Maybe Lena can give you a note
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: for Casey that says this is perfect prescription to Yeah,
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: all right, let me go get a hold on No no, no,
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: no, no no, no, no, no, no no no, come on.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: All right, let's talk about fix your life. I don't
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: know if we can fix your life, but if there's
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: any way we can, you missed donald. She's got two
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: teenage daughters in addition and as a single mom in
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: addition to being a nurse. So she's got a lot
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: of doctor student. Yeah, kin, a doctor, you got a
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: lot on your plate there, right, How can we fix
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: your So this is I just want your advice. This
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: is what I really need from you guys, because you
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: are artists and you understand what this is like. Being
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: a nurse was never my dream. I actually went to
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: college from musical theater and then got pregnant, had to
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: get a real job with health insurance, went to nursing school,
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: probably because of scrubs. I'm not gonna lie the times
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: up and uh now I'm I'm a mom and I'm
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: a nurse. And so I did a lot of community theater,
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: and then that wasn't an option anymore because I was
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: too busy. So what I did was I sat down
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: and wrote a book. I wrote a fiction. I sort
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: of just wrote my own fantasy world that I got
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: to escape into since I couldn't be an actress anymore.
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: And I felt really good about it. I was really
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: passionate about it. I was very excited. And then eighteen
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: rejections later from agents, I had somebody who said, I'll
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: take a look at it, but you have to cut
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: out roughly forty thousand words. So I said, I don't.
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: I don't want to do that. I have all these
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: people who have read it, they love it. I've read it,
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: I've edited it. I don't want to take any more
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: out of it. I'm going to self publish, right So
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: I got the website, I got the TikTok, I got
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: seventy five hundred followers on TikTok, I put a little
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: teaser about the book. Everyone seemed excited, and then I
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: really started looking at self published, and I thought, if
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: I really want to do this, I need to get
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: a kickstarter, but I don't have the time. I don't
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: We're gonna be your grit kickstarter because we're gonna look
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: your website, what's the name of the book, and how
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: do people find out about the book? So I guess
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: my question was do I go for it or do
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: I shelve it? But it sounds like you're saying just
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: go for it. This is a place where dreams come truly.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: We shit, we tip pig, we pick up, we go
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: to the store, we go to Staples, we get white boards,
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: we get erasable markers, okay, and we take those markers
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: to set board and and we write down our dreams
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: and goals. Why do you have like a why do
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: you sound like a preachro something? I like it because
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: I'm trying to get Lena there. She needs to get
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: up off her ass, go to the white bull and
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: pick up erase a pin to the b and right
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: down to wants to self publish our own book. Write
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: it down, all right, reverend, Reverend, Reverend, there's so many
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: babies on latching right now, so many babies aren't eating
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: right now. But I'm super excited. All right, Well, Donald's right.
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: We we really believe that you can manifest. We're big
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: believers in manifesting from the white board. It sounds like
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: it's already on your white board and you're about to
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: get the biggest plug you you could ever get. Which
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: is so funny you say that, Zack, because the way
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: that I got on this podcast is that I'm a
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: witch and I wrote a spell and I did a
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: spell to get on this podcast. That a big That
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: was a big right angle turn. By the way, much
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: like much like this episode, there's a reveal at the
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: end of the Caller, She's a witch. I didn't want
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: to ruin Joel's big, big twist, but yeah, I'm a witch,
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: and that's how I got myself on here. And so
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: just like you said, Zach, I wanted to manifest this happening.
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: Are you serious? Are you really a witch? Because some
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: people really are and really, which so that's my alt
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: right behind me with your whiteboard right above it. Okay,
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: so I'm not I'm not trying to. I'm not trying to.
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: I'm not trying to make jokes or anything like. No,
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: don't make jokes because I'm not religion. How do you
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: how do you practice and science at the same time.
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: How are you able to do? Donald? That's such a
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: good question, very good question. Donal. Weed must be wearing off.
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: It's such a good question. So no, the weed is
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: kicking it. You thought that you thought I took a
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: break because the computer went down. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: need to go smoke some reeds. So yeah, something tells
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: me you dropped out of the zoom it right right
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: around the time when you needed a fucking it. I
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: dropped out right around four twenty. That's dropped out. Yeah
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: all right, So Lena, we can't go down a giant
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: witchcraft world. But Donald, that's a great question. How do
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: you reconcile spells and science? So the human body is
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: made up of energy and electricity, so is everything around us.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: And if you go all the way back to the
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: pagan belief, back back, back back back, their belief was
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: very much about manipulating the energy that is around us,
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: that all the energy is. We're all connected, all of us,
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: and they believed in honoring that. So if you very quickly,
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: to make this super super quick, if you look at
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: the rivers of chi that are drawn out by the
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: Chinese back back back back, it actually lines up with
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: the nervous system. So way way back before we even
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: had science, people knew that there was something greater than
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: all of us, that we were all connected, that by
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: caring for the earth, we were caring for ourselves. For
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: caring for each other, we're caring for ourselves. And so
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: I think there is a room for Western medicine and
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: Eastern medicine. If you want to manifest something in your life,
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: ZAC you actually save us a lot on the podcast.
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: You have more magical thinking than you probably realize. But
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: if you want to manifest things, you're manipulating the energy
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: around you and you're creating it to happen. However, if
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: somebody in front of you goes into respiratory, just dress
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: and drops. You don't want to burn incense. You want
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: to care for them. And that's that we were lucky
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: that we were able to understand Western medicine but still
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: hold on the Eastern medicine. So I do believe that
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: there is a place for both things. But I do
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: think that when it comes to things like creating what
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: you want in life, that there is a way to
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: honor that and honor the things around you. And I
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: think that my job is a nurse honors all of
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: the people out in this world. It cares for life,
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: and because of that, I get a lot of abundance
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: back in return. I'm very lucky in that sense. But
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: I do think that there's room for everything. I think
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: that all of us can be in harmony, and that
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: includes Western and Eastern, so that includes magical thinking as
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: well as science. If that makes sense. Yeah, I mean sorry,
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: it was really quick. It wasn't It makes a lot
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: of sense. It's like, you know, it's believing in religion
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: and also believing that science it can exist with religion
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: as well, and I totally get it, absolutely absolutely so.
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: If you're sitting at the bedside of somebody who's dying,
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: of course you're going to pray for them, but you're
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: also going to want the doctor to do everything they
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: can to try and keep that person alive. And that's
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: where I really try to honor both things. Well, we
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: hear that, We hear you, and we respect you, and
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: we respect all religions and belief systems. So wait, so
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: tell everyone how to do you do you got a cat?
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: I just want to know. Do you have a cat?
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: I do? Is it a black cat? No? You are right?
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: And its name is Sebastian? All right? And the interest
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: of and the interest of episode line? Alright, how do
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: we how do we are out of time of Lena?
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: But tell us how to find your book? Tell everyone
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: how to find your books. Yeah, so if you want
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: to find my TikTok, I'm all nurse all the time.
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: All my information is on there. And my website is
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: uh Lena l E n A NASSERI and a z
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: as in zebra a r ei dot com and you
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: can find all the information on there. And I guess
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: I'm gonna make a kickstarter, so watch for it. What's
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: the title of the book. But what's the title of
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: the bight Shift. It's about a night shift nurse who
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: becomes a vampire night shift. That's well, you know, you
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: know how we do because we got a little story
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: that we like to talk about about a doctor who
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: becomes a vampire. And his name is doctor Acula. Nice Donald,
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: you like it. There's a lot of sex in the book.
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: It's very sexy. There's a lot of what sex, sex
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: sex Donald could use it. Wait, hold on, I'm sorry, Lena,
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: I think you have me confused for someone else. Oh sorry,
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: apologize I I I can't even continue this with a
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: straight face. All right, I'm very interesting. You've been an
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: awesome guest. Thank you for being a frontline worker and
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: for all that you're doing, and and please stay safe,
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: and thank you for coming on. You're an awesome guest.
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you, very thank you to be Well,
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: let's take a break. We'll be right back after these
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: fine words. There were so many chapters to that call.
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: That was a big that was that was truly. I mean,
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: she's Joel. Did you know she was going to drop
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: the witch bomb at the end? Hell? Yeah, Why do
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: you think I picked her? I was, sister, let's do it?
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: You were? You were? You were probably like, what's she
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: gonna start talking about the witches? Which I was worried.
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: I wasn't gonna get in there. Well, she had a
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: lot to say, and she's very interesting. But I thought
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: that Donald thought that she was kidding. And that's why
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: I was like, oh wait, I didn't think she's kidding
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: because she's like she has all her witch gear behind her.
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: I didn't think she was of like frontline work and
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: nursing and dating. And then all of a sudden she's
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: so also, yeah, I'm a witch. And so your book
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: is about the book is a sexy book about a
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: nurse vampire. I mean that woman in America. I'll doorly Lena,
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: thank you. Yeah, yeah, you should go on that pitch
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: that pitch thing. What's the pitch thing on Twitter? Joel
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: pitch thing on Twitter? Do you know what I'm talking about?
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: I thought you might know about it. It's like when
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: writers pitch their ideas and they they like. It's like
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: they they put out like a byeline or not a byline.
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: They put out like a one sentence thing about what
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: the plot of their thing is, and then they hope
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: that publishers or agents respond to them. Do you know
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: what I'm talking about? Yes, they do. It's called a
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: Twitter pitch. It's sometimes thrown by different publishing companies. Is
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: according to Google, sometimes just sort of ramped up where
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: people are like, hey, just go for it. I guess
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: agents do it sometimes too, but it's sort of it's
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: called like pitch mod or something. I don't know. There's
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: like there's days where it's like, hey, everybody gets pitch
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: mod and I'll be pitching my new book and anyway,
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: I digress. So, Donald, what's up? Brother? We should we
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: have a surprise for everybody, and that is that when
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: we're done with our show, Joshua Rayden is gonna sing
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: and perform Winter Live for all of you, which is
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: a pretty nice treat, Donald, don't you think you know?
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: I was hoping for a concert the whole episode. I
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: thought that's what we were going to do. I didn't
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: realize we were gonna, you know, talk about the show.
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: And I think Lena was going to be that interesting,
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: to be honest with you, But you know, okay, she
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: she spoke my language, obviously. Yeah. I think it's only
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: right that if we have josh on the show, of course,
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: that we ask him. He could say, he could decline,
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: he could say no, I wouldn't have had him on.
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: I just want to go through a couple more things
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: I love in the show. Before Josh sings gay Chicken along.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: Gay Chicken was funny, you and I used to actually
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: play gay Chicken. Yeah. I uh, that's a that's a
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: tough one to win, you know what I mean? That
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: always wins that one. Well, I'm willing, I'm willing to
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: kiss you, because you're willing to make out. If you're
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: willing to make out, if you're willing to make out,
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: then you're always the winner. I wanted to say. Leonard
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: playing playing gin and smoking a cigarette in the hospital
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: using his claw hand I thought was funny. I think
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: it's hilarious that JD slept with both Sullivan sisters. Right,
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: I've had sex with both Sullivan sisters, I laughed. I
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: mean shower shorts. Did you think that shower shorts was
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: in this episode? I didn't. I didn't know it was
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: in there. And also this went on into a different
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: television show, didn't It didn't. It's become your Arrested Development character.
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: Didn't your Arrested No no no, Because in Arrested Development
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: they have a running seam where never nude David Cross
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: is a never nude. He's never naked. He wears Jeane
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: shorts underneath all his clothes. Josh Raiden loves that show,
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: and I was lucky enough to be on that show
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: as a fellow never nude. So yes, I guess that's
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: that's wise that you're saying there is overlap and that
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: both JD and my character and Arrested Development do not
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: shower fully nude. We're a fucking never nude. That it
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: was hilarious. Portion DROSSI goes, you're a fucking never nude. Yeah,
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: it was so funny. I got to be a never
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: nude and shower shorts for the man who has nothing
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: to hide but still wants to That is one of
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: the funniest jokes. And it's got a wallet. It's got
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: a shower short that had me rolling the shower shorts
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: with the with the wallet that zips back and when
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: he pulls it and it zips back, and where does
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: it smack him? That's what I want to know. As
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: no in the ass, I do a little jump. Okay,
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: you and your male talking. Your male talking is hilarious. Dude,
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: your mole, your mold, what does it say? It says
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: that you know that's my voice. And I actually did
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: the puppet for that too, for the mole. As we
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: operated the puppet, I operated the puppet for the mold.
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: The mold was my bow and my hand in the mold. Well,
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: the mall was very funny. I don't know why the
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: mall wasn't a recurring character that I would have thought
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: the moll would have come back, but I guess not.
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: I don't know why Bill didn't ever bring the mall back,
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: but that was great. Elliot's Bunyan at the end, when
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: the doctor sees and the nurse passes out, you know
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: whenever these whenever a nurse is like a not a
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: normal one of the regular like background nurses, and you
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: just know she's going to be a stunt woman because
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: I was like, oh, I don't recognize that woman. And
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: then all of a sudden she took a big fall
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: when she fainted it and I was like, oh, she
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: must have been a stunt woman. That was funny. That
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: was very funny. She must have been a stunt woman
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: because it was a perfect fall too. Yeah, And then
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: the word was piance. We should talk about this the
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: whole show before Ted the lawyer has lost one of
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: his band members, is threatening to quit, and the show
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: opens up even with it, You'll always be a worthless peon.
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: You're nothing more than a worthless peon and then he
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: turns to you know, after Ted hangs up, the phony
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: turns to Kelso. When he goes, doctor Kelso, my band,
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: the Worthless Peons has just lost a member. I think
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: this must be the moment that we learned the name
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: of the band the word yea, it is because they
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: are all worthless peons. I mean that's how they all
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: work at the hospital and feel like their their peons
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: to everybody. Yeah. And then also Carla talking about how
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: she's a candy bar. The Espinoza is a candy bar,
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: and then Ted asks her does the Espinoza have nugata
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: in the middle. Yeah, that was funny. I thought I
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: thought he was doing that like as a sexual thing,
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: like trying to be like trying to flirt. No, he
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: just likes No, I think he's trying to flirt. I
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: think it's a flirty flirt. Let's let's get to the
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: cemetery where it all goes down. Eighteen forty nine is
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: when we see the first shot of the cemetery. And
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: you know, this has been like the most common meme
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: that's ever been sent to me. Though, where do you
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: think we are? A moment that happens at nineteen thirty five.
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: I got goose bumps. I have to say when when
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: it happened, even though I knew it was coming. It's
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: just a really cool sixth cents reveal. Yeah, and well
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: acted by John C. McGinley. Also yes, and the whole
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: episode well yeah, Zach, absolutely absolutely, you know what, I
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: know you need it so absolutely I don't need it.
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: It's not about me. Johnny's incredible in this episode, and
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: especially at the end when he's crying, it's very moving.
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: He's very good at it. And and watching them all
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: sit Jordan, Danny and Johnny's sitting watching the funeral as
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: he's you know, lowered into the ground and everything like that,
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: I was wondering, who's going to be the one to know,
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: because you forget these things, Who's the one Like I
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: was wondering, does Danny lean on Jordan? Is Jordan's gonna
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: lean on Cox's Cox? You know? How does this? How
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: does this end? Because there needs to be a moment
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: that you know, this family can you know, grieve together
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: because we're not really you don't really see it, you
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: just see you know. And this is a very strong
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: and stone Wall fan like, these guys are very mean
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: to each other, and I was like, where's the break?
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: Who's gonna break? And when Jordan grabs Cox, that's the
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: first one. But then when JD puts his hand on
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: Cox and he's willing to accept, he's willing, and he's
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: willing to receive the love from well, he's gonna receive
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: it from Jordan, but to receive it from his from
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: his colleague, from his work buddy. Very powerful moment. Yeah,
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: it's very moving. And Jordan's character isn't someone who's going
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: to emote, and sob and Johnny sees you think isn't either,
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: but he just finally lets go and she looks over
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: at him, and it's very moving. It's beautifully done. I'm
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: so we're very blessed and lucky to have the Josh
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: here who's going to sing live for you and Josh,
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: are you ready? Is everything tuned? Is the capo set?
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: I know all the lingo Well, I just want to
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: stay one last thing before we get into the raiding situation.
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: Josh Man, I didn't get to finish this earlier. I
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: remember watching you in Hotel Cafe me many more, Mega,
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: Kelly and Zach Braft the only people in the place
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: us and the bartender and you and the sound guy.
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: That's it flash cut to you at the Troopadore the
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: first time you played at the Trooperdoor Fire. One of
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: the best moments of my life to this day. To
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: be able to say, to be able to say, I
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: knew you when this was freaking a whimsical idea and
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: now look at you now. It's it's always it always
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: makes me smile to walk into an auditorium and hear
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: you perform, and then not only that, to watch the
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: people listening to you, like I've seen a thugged out dude,
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: like somebody that looks like the dude that was on
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: the skateboard with the with the with the ocean spray,
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: seen somebody like that at your concert doing exactly what
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: he's doing to the Stevie Nick song, singing and along
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: to the Fleetwood Max song. I've seen that, I've seen
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: I've seen you touch people like that, and it's just
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: so powerful to see. So without any further doo, y'all,
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: I've said enough. Joshua. All right, here's josh Raiden with
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: with Winter, the first song he ever wrote. I should
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: know who I am. I know I mark the record
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: stand somehow cannot under your name is the splenter inside
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: me while I'm wait. I remember the sound of your
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: November Downtown, and I remember the truth I worn December
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: will you. But I don't have to make this mistake,
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: and I don't have to stay this way. If only
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: I've made the walk, that's all and cleared by now.
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: Your voice, it's all I hear somehow calling out winter.
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: Your voice is the splenter inside me while I waited,
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: and I remember the sound if your November Downtown. I
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: remember the truth. I want December with you. But I
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: don't have to make this mistake, and I don't have
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: to stay this way. If only I wad I could
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: have lost myself in rough blue waters in your eyes,
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: and I miss you still. I remember the sound off
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: your November Downtown. I remember the truth. I warm December
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: with you. But I don't have to make this mistake,
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: and I don't have to stay this way. If only
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: I wait, m YEA wow you want with That's so beautiful, Josh,
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: Thank you. When I hear that song, I go, I
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: can't believe I know the guy who who wrote and
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: sings that. It's just such beautiful poetry. Thank you so much.
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: It's very kind and thank you for starting my career.
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: Well I I if it wasn't me, it would have
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: been somebody else. Well, you never know. Josh. Remind people

- 1:42:19Speaker 1: you're exactly You're You're you're what are you being here
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: just being dismissive of yourself. You're being self deprecating, Josh Donald,
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: you're still here with us? Well I'm here though. Can
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: we can we just have Donald admit to everyone that
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: I did not mess up my own song? Okay? Fine?
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: Is that? Is that what you're waiting for? He came
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: on the podcast? So look all right, So here's the thing.
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: Here's the thing. Here's the thing. Remind you were you
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: did mind listeners? What was said? I said that he blew.
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: He messed up his own song. It didn't mess up
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: his own song. You messed it up by not singing
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: the whole song straight through, like you forgot some words here.
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: I didn't forget anyone. This is the thing. But I
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: will say this the stairs. Well say that has happened.
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: And I know you've been talking all day. Moment, Okay,
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: go ahead, let him have his moment. I'm running the stairs.
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: When the podcast started listening to this thing, and all
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: of a sudden, you start talking about me and how
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: you asked me to play your your in Casey's first
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: dance at your wedding, and you asked for one of
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: my songs, and it was you asked for the song Paperweight,
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: which at the time, I went for about eight years
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: or something without playing that song live. It was too painful.
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: I wrote it with my ex and when we split up,
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: I just decided I didn't want to play anymore. Now
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: I play it, it's been whatever, it's been time you
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: would has played it together yet? No, No, we haven't seen.
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: We haven't hung out in years and years. I would
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: love to see that. Oh we should get that on
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: the show. That would be dope, but I would for
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: sure either way. What I'm saying is, you asked me
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: to play a song of mine called they Bring Me
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: to You, and so I did. But the live version
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: of that song is a different version than the recording. Oh,
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: I know, because you have a female singing with you
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: and it's just so much different production. But when you
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: solo acoustic life, So you have to remember, I'm running
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: the stairs listening to your podcast and I hear you
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: do your Oprah voice of like that he fucked up
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: his own song, and I'm like, I spit out my water.
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: I started laughing. So and then of course I texted
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: you right afterwards. I'm like, what are you talking about it?
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: Right away you were like, first of all, I did
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: not fuck up. I just want the audience to know that.
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: Donald asked Josh to sing him and his wife's first
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: song in his wedding and then made fun of him
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: on front of thousands of people because he didn't like
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: the version. Josh sang, it's me, it's me, all right,
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: we've gone two hours, don't know. We don't entertain you.
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: I know, right, I just but ye that being said,
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: But I do love and I love you too, that
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: being said though. Man. At my wedding, when we were
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: sitting up in Zach's house getting ready myself, Josh and Zach,
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: Josh sits down and he starts drumming on the guitar
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: and uh just start singing. And he writes a song
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: at my wedding. And I then hear the song maybe
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: like a year later on a plane ride to New York,
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: and I remember hitting him up and being like, dude,
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: that song you wrote at my wedding is playing on
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: the plane and it's the one where it's like it's
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: a wedding, it's a freaking love song, man. And I
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: can't remember I remember, but it's like if you go
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: something like, I'll find you something. Come on I haven't
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: played that song and forever. You wrote that at my wedding,
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: and so I have to find it now so that
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: Daniel could play it out if you laid it down,
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: josh right. It's available to an album called of mine,
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: called wax Wings, called Daniel. It's on wax Wings. Thank
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: you everybody. The onesies Joelle told me are are restocked
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: on twelve eighteen. If you want to give the love
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: of me and Donald on your body, and thank you
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: to Daniel, Joelle, Lena, our guests. And here is Joshua
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: Raden with the song Donald, just beautifully, because what's the
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: call when we're together? When we're together, y'all? Basteg an
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: sky and the water fire at nights, no pleasure without sacrifice,
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: the shore and the ocean, the moon sun, one way
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: without the other. Had boat done? Now? I believe you
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: what's supposed to be supposed to be you and with
