Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Get glades in the UK morning, mate, hil where are
- 0:03Speaker 1: we at with these ide workers? And the risk you
- 0:05Speaker 1: is how many we got?
- 0:07Speaker 2: Yeah, well, it has been a couple of boats on
- 0:10Speaker 2: the Mediterranean Sea that have gone down, we believe. It
- 0:14Speaker 2: is said that dozens of migrants were rescued, but at
- 0:17Speaker 2: least ten were found dead below deck on one of
- 0:20Speaker 2: the ships that were locked into a sort of cargo
- 0:22Speaker 2: holders of course, just couldn't get out. And there is
- 0:25Speaker 2: a heat wave around the Mediterranean as well, so it
- 0:27Speaker 2: must have been very very hot. A second ship as well,
- 0:30Speaker 2: not far away, also went down below Both believes that
- 0:33Speaker 2: will come from either the coast of Libya or Turkey.
- 0:37Speaker 2: And I'm afraid sixty four people still missing at sea
- 0:41Speaker 2: from both those vessels. And I'm afraid you know, this
- 0:44Speaker 2: just goes on and on the Mediterranean. It's the deadliest
- 0:47Speaker 2: known migration route in the world and since twenty fourteen,
- 0:51Speaker 2: like twenty three and a half thousand migrants have died
- 0:53Speaker 2: or gone missing in its waters.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. And it is very much part of the
- 0:58Speaker 1: current election campaign.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yeah, very much so, so both sides saying they are
- 1:02Speaker 2: the party that will at least sort this out. But
- 1:05Speaker 2: I think in reality, nobody can really sort it out
- 1:08Speaker 2: unless most of the EU go with it, and that
- 1:10Speaker 2: is something the EU has so far suggested that they
- 1:13Speaker 2: are not going to join any particular plan here that
- 1:15Speaker 2: the UK have and.
- 1:16Speaker 1: The London Stock Exchange London.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Is back, Yes, London is back, but for how long
- 1:23Speaker 2: We're not quite sure. So what that means. The UK's
- 1:25Speaker 2: main stock market, the foot Sea, retook its crown as
- 1:28Speaker 2: Europe's most valuable for the first time in nearly two years.
- 1:32Speaker 2: The total value of companies listed on the London Stock Exchange,
- 1:36Speaker 2: so that's for the foot Sea am beyond hit five
- 1:38Speaker 2: trillion New Zealand dollars yesterday. That just overtook the value
- 1:44Speaker 2: of companies listed in Paris now. Both valuations, of course
- 1:47Speaker 2: shift on a daily basis, but the French market are
- 1:50Speaker 2: slump because of uncertainty around the election that was called
- 1:53Speaker 2: and the distinct possibility that the National Rous, the right
- 1:57Speaker 2: wing party, will win a major and it is looking
- 2:01Speaker 2: to spend money and it hasn't said where that money
- 2:03Speaker 2: is coming from.
- 2:04Speaker 1: How much interest, Kevin, while I got you, has there
- 2:06Speaker 1: been in the EU vote, the EU vote to the right,
- 2:09Speaker 1: the young people voting, the right, not so much the
- 2:11Speaker 1: Greens and the French situation that sees potentially some twenty
- 2:14Speaker 1: eight year old turning out to be the prime minister.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Or here's the bricks that mean that you're a separate
- 2:19Speaker 1: country now, No one cares, no, No.
- 2:22Speaker 2: A lot of coverage here in the media and lots
- 2:24Speaker 2: of interest because of course it will matter to us
- 2:27Speaker 2: whatever happens. It may well be that the National Rally
- 2:31Speaker 2: may actually sort of suggest that they are not happy
- 2:34Speaker 2: with the EU and try and change things from within.
- 2:37Speaker 2: At one time, the National Rally Party said it wanted
- 2:40Speaker 2: a for exit, a French exit out of the EU.
- 2:43Speaker 2: They're not saying that now, but that doesn't mean to
- 2:45Speaker 2: say they've tempered their opinion about what goes on in
- 2:47Speaker 2: the EU.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Always a pleasure might catch up, so I appreciate it.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Kevin Gray out of Britain for you this morning.
