Latest / GrocerTalk / Ranking Our Top 5 Holidays: Did Your Favorite Make the Cut?
Transcript
- 0:09Hello, everyone.
- 0:09Ann and I are trying something new today.
- 0:12In true entrepreneurial fashion, we are throwing it out there and seeing if it sticks.
- 0:17The genesis of what you are about to hear or watch is that Ann and I have been blown away by the number of people that watch the shorts of our lightning round at the end of every Fast five
- 0:27that we record.
- 0:28Every Fast five podcast that we record in which, you know, we are retail experts, so to speak, but the lightning round, and I don't really think, I don't think the lightning rod really qualifies as retail insights.
- 0:38And maybe it does take.
- 0:39No expertise is required for the answers.
- 0:42No.
- 0:42No questions.
- 0:43No.
- 0:43No.
- 0:44So those people tuning in for our retail insights are.
- 0:46Are still loving our lightning round.
- 0:48So.
- 0:48So because of that, and we teased this on our Fast five together a few weeks ago, we're going to rank stuff.
- 0:54We're going to rank stuff today and.
- 0:56And we're going to start this first ever show ranking our favorite holidays one through five.
- 1:03Are you ready?
- 1:04I love that.
- 1:04I love that.
- 1:05There's no other premise but rank stuff.
- 1:08That was, that was the thesis for this podcast.
- 1:11So very, very deeply thought through.
- 1:14Rank stuff.
- 1:15Yes, yes.
- 1:16Rank our favorite holidays today.
- 1:18I love it.
- 1:19And you know, as you say that it's totally on brand for us.
- 1:22Totally rank stuff.
- 1:23Let's just reg stuff.
- 1:24Yes.
- 1:26Are you ready to go?
- 1:27Yes, I'm ready to go.
- 1:28Oh, you want to ask a question before we get started?
- 1:30Before we get started, I have to ask you a question.
- 1:32So we're ranking holidays.
- 1:35Did you, in your prep for this podcast have to Google the holidays?
- 1:41No, I did not, Ann.
- 1:43No, I did not.
- 1:44Okay.
- 1:45Given my 47 years of experience on this earth, I was pretty comfortable.
- 1:49I knew which holidays registered in my mind, but I take it.
- 1:54So it was just me.
- 1:55Yes, I did.
- 1:56I did.
- 1:56Because it was very challenging.
- 1:59Like when you look at the list, I wanted to make sure that I wasn't forgetting any holidays I know or like where do the holiday.
- 2:06What's considered a holiday?
- 2:08Because like the US Holidays, if you just Google it, is like the ones that the government is closed down.
- 2:14They don't get into like St.
- 2:17Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day.
- 2:19Oh, definitely a holiday.
- 2:20Definitely a holiday.
- 2:21Yes.
- 2:21Okay, so that's.
- 2:22I included those.
- 2:23I just wanted to set the table.
- 2:24Yes, you should have.
- 2:25So that we're like, still we're allowed to include non government holidays in this Because I definitely did.
- 2:31So just just clarifying.
- 2:33Okay.
- 2:33Yes, you definitely should have.
- 2:34Yeah, no, there's no rules in Rank Stuff.
- 2:36And there's no rules, in fact.
- 2:38But the only rule I think for this one is it's us holidays.
- 2:41Like, we're not doing Boxing Day or something like that.
- 2:43Even though one of your titles, one of the potential titles for this entire series if it takes off is you're such a ranker.
- 2:50In honor of our friends overseas as well.
- 2:52But, um, but yes, Ann, I think you, you, I think you, if you Googling helped you arrive at that, I'm all for it, so.
- 2:59But I, I, I wanted to make.
- 3:01Sure that I was, that I was applying to all the terms and conditions of the Rank Stuff podcast.
- 3:06So I just made sure I was doing my due diligence.
- 3:10So we are recognizing for everyone listening, any holiday that is recognized somewhat in.
- 3:17The US it can even be like your own holiday too.
- 3:20Like Festivus, you know, like on Seinfeld, like, if you have Bongo Day in your house or something like that, you.
- 3:25Know, that was included.
- 3:27That also qualifies.
- 3:28Well, I think it should.
- 3:29I think it should.
- 3:30But, but.
- 3:30All right, let's see where you came up with.
- 3:32All right, all right, you start us off.
- 3:34Number.
- 3:34We're gonna go reverse order.
- 3:36What is your fifth favorite holiday?
- 3:39Okay, this holiday, this is where, this is where I get into the, like, gray of the holidays.
- 3:46But my fifth favorite holiday is Summer solstice, the longest day of the year.
- 3:50Solstice.
- 3:51Wow.
- 3:52Starting off strong, coming in strong.
- 3:54Why do you like the summer solstice?
- 3:56What day is that?
- 3:57June 21.
- 3:58June 21.
- 3:59June 21.
- 4:00Nice.
- 4:00Okay.
- 4:01All right.
- 4:01I have a lot of, I have a lot of friends who have summer solstice parties.
- 4:06And it's like, fun.
- 4:07One of them, yeah, one of them does like a Midsummer Night's Dream themed one.
- 4:12And it's like, kind of cool.
- 4:13Another friend of mine is Latvian and they have, they always celebrate the summer solstice.
- 4:19Yanni Day is what they call it.
- 4:21And it, she like has this whole party where she, her dad's like the US Ambassador to Latvia, so like, he brings in all this Latvian food and, like, she has this great party.
- 4:31It's my grandmother's birthday, so I like, I think of her that day.
- 4:35And it's the most sunlight that we get for in one day.
- 4:40And I think that alone is like a reason to celebrate.
- 4:43So I'm going Summer solstice, it's crazy.
- 4:46It's unorthodox.
- 4:47But that's my top five.
- 4:49My five holiday of the top five summer solstice.
- 4:53Like that, that even crank my kids or crack my consideration.
- 4:58This is why I googled Chris, because I was like, what holidays are there that I'm not thinking of?
- 5:03And this was on the list.
- 5:04And I was like, yeah, I actually do love that day.
- 5:07Wow.
- 5:08I'll give you.
- 5:08I'll give you the sunlight day.
- 5:10The sunlight thing is cool.
- 5:10I didn't even know.
- 5:11I didn't even know people that existed like, that People had summer solstice parties.
- 5:15I had no idea.
- 5:16And Yanni Day, like, I imagine that that's a word specific to Latvian culture as opposed to, like, listening to Yanni music.
- 5:22Right.
- 5:23Although it's Jade, inclusion of both would be kind of fun.
- 5:26Okay, got it.
- 5:26Got it.
- 5:27Yes.
- 5:27All right, all right.
- 5:29Well, mine is not quite.
- 5:31Mine is not quite as obscure.
- 5:32And I will put that out there.
- 5:35Mine is New Year's Day.
- 5:36New Year's Day, actually.
- 5:38Oh, okay.
- 5:39What.
- 5:39Why, What's.
- 5:40Why does take fifth place for me?
- 5:42It's, it's, it's.
- 5:44It's.
- 5:44It's not.
- 5:45It's not like on the upper echelon, but it's like, it gets ranked for me because of the nostalgia and, you know, love is in the air.
- 5:52You know, you look back on the past year, you can look back fondly.
- 5:55It gives you good memories.
- 5:56You always remember where you are.
- 5:58When Harry Met Sally comes into play in my mind.
- 6:01You also get the next day off, which, as you're going to see in my rankings and how many days off I get around the holidays.
- 6:07Very, very, very valid for my ranking.
- 6:10Yes.
- 6:11Very light week heading.
- 6:13The light week heading into it before Christmas is as well.
- 6:16Ryan Seacrest balls are dropping in New York City.
- 6:19New Year's Eve or New Year's Day.
- 6:22Because you said New Year's Day.
- 6:23You need New Year's, New Year's, the whole.
- 6:26Got to pick a home.
- 6:27Got to pick a day.
- 6:28No, no, no, no.
- 6:29You're delineating between New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
- 6:32Yes.
- 6:32Let me tell you why.
- 6:33Because New Year's Day period and the.
- 6:3524 hour period is what I'm saying.
- 6:37Nope.
- 6:37Nope.
- 6:38Disqualified.
- 6:38Okay, go ahead, pick New Year's Eve or New Year's Day.
- 6:41New Year's Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Eve, then New Year's Day fucks you are the first day of any one of your New Year's Eve, like, resolutions goes into play.
- 6:52So that means, like, no sweets, you're.
- 6:54Going to the gym, smoking or going.
- 6:57To the gym or whatever it is.
- 6:59Yeah, that goes into effect.
- 7:00You may Be hungover or at least just tired because you were up late the night before.
- 7:05And then the next day you gotta go to work after being on vacation for the last however long.
- 7:10So I say New Year's Day, not no New Year's Eve.
- 7:14I'll get.
- 7:15Yeah, you're right, you're right, you're right.
- 7:16By New Year's Day, I.
- 7:18You're right.
- 7:18I.
- 7:19In our First Rank stuff podcast, I need to change my answer and you have convinced me to change my answer.
- 7:24It's not New Year's Day, it's New Year's Eve.
- 7:27Yes.
- 7:27New Year's Eve.
- 7:28Yes.
- 7:28Okay, great.
- 7:30You get out of work early.
- 7:31Like, there's a lot of pluses to New Year's Eve.
- 7:33You dress up, you get to like celebrate.
- 7:36Usually you go something fancy like, I'll give you New Year's Eve.
- 7:39I think that's a valid holiday.
- 7:41Okay.
- 7:41Okay.
- 7:42All right.
- 7:42All right, I'm going to lead the next one then.
- 7:44So number four.
- 7:45Number four was one.
- 7:46When I was thinking about this, it kind of snuck in as a dark horse.
- 7:49Like I was kind of surprised like when I, when I came up with this one.
- 7:52But number four for me is honestly Memorial Day.
- 7:55And Memorial Day.
- 7:57Okay, start a summer start of summer barbecue, three day weekend again, the time off work theme.
- 8:05Kids are pretty much done with school at this point, so the teachers don't give a flying fiddlers about anything.
- 8:10But the downsides of it are that it's often taken up by like a dental convention that Mrs.
- 8:15Omni Talk has to go to or, you know, somebody plans a wedding, which I also hate weddings on holidays.
- 8:21Like, that's just a big freaking pet peeve of mine.
- 8:24But you're getting, you're getting invited to a lot of weddings these days, Chris in your 40s.
- 8:28But yeah, I am actually still do.
- 8:30But.
- 8:31Yes, but, but it always happens.
- 8:32Like people do that at weddings on Memorial Day and stuff.
- 8:34So.
- 8:35But so, you know, so it gets why it's not higher is those things, right?
- 8:39Like, it's just, it's, it's sometimes, sometimes just gets clouded up or, or clamped up with other activities around it.
- 8:45So I don't get to spend it to the degree that I want to, but I like it because, you know, start a summer and it's kind of like, it's kind of got a summer solstice vibe that I have
- 8:53for.
- 8:54That it has for me.
- 8:55But what, what's your fourth?
- 8:56I'm curious.
- 8:57Yeah, my fourth is St.
- 9:00Patrick's Day.
- 9:01Because if you do St.
- 9:03Patrick's Day.
- 9:04Right.
- 9:04I totally forgot about St.
- 9:05Patrick's Day.
- 9:06Don't think that you do this right as you age as much.
- 9:10Yeah, but, I mean, the St.
- 9:12Patrick's Day that I've spent in Chicago or in New York and even here In Minneapolis and St.
- 9:18Paul, like, we have.
- 9:19In St.
- 9:19Paul, we have a big.
- 9:21And Minneapolis, we have a big, like, Irish culture and heritage here, too.
- 9:24Yeah.
- 9:25And I think you get up in the morning, you start your day with a Guinness, and you, like, go do, like, have breakfast at a local Irish bar.
- 9:33Like, that day is full of fun, and you go to bed early, and it's great.
- 9:38The only downside is the next day.
- 9:40You know, the next day.
- 9:41But you're right.
- 9:42You're right.
- 9:42You're convincing me that I should have googled the holidays, because I can't believe St.
- 9:46Patrick's Day did not make my holidays.
- 9:48This was another one that was on the list.
- 9:50I was.
- 9:50I'm bumping Memorial Day.
- 9:52Memorial Day, you're gone.
- 9:53As I'm doing this, Memorial Day is out, and I'm going.
- 9:56I'm putting St.
- 9:56Patrick's Day in number four.
- 9:57So you are.
- 9:59With you.
- 10:00Yeah.
- 10:01You love an Irish bar more than anyone.
- 10:03Like, no.
- 10:04I actually am surprised that wasn't on your list.
- 10:06I thought that was going to be, like, number two.
- 10:08Like.
- 10:08Right, right, right.
- 10:11It actually might move up in the rankings as we do this.
- 10:13And, I mean, I.
- 10:15I was derelict in my duties here.
- 10:16Like, I should be allowed to rank stuff.
- 10:19No.
- 10:20This.
- 10:21No.
- 10:21All right, number three.
- 10:22What's number three?
- 10:24Number three for me is Fourth of July.
- 10:30I love July because it's always nice out.
- 10:34Especially, like, living in Minnesota and growing up here.
- 10:38Like, it's always been associated with, like, going to a lake somewhere, hanging out with friends.
- 10:43Like, a full long day and night of, like, fun activities.
- 10:48It's usually nice out.
- 10:50Boat parades, like, the whole thing.
- 10:52Like, America.
- 10:54It's, like, one of my favorite days.
- 10:56Yeah.
- 10:57It's Fourth of July.
- 10:58Everybody's.
- 10:58Everybody's happy.
- 11:00I like the America drop.
- 11:01That was great.
- 11:02Yeah.
- 11:03Yeah.
- 11:03Actually, I'm gonna.
- 11:04I'm still.
- 11:04I'm gonna.
- 11:05I'm gonna give a little preview.
- 11:06That was actually my number two.
- 11:07I love Fourth of July.
- 11:08I love Fourth of July.
- 11:09So, okay, so.
- 11:10And I'm with you on everything.
- 11:11Like, you get the barbecues.
- 11:12Awesome.
- 11:13You get the day off.
- 11:15You can day drink.
- 11:16I like day drinking, which is why I can't believe I didn't have St.
- 11:18Patrick's Day in there.
- 11:19Yes.
- 11:19Common theme.
- 11:20Common theme.
- 11:21Here is day trips, camping.
- 11:23Everything's on the table with Fourth of July.
- 11:25You can do Fourth of July.
- 11:26You're going to need to move camping right off of that list for both of us.
- 11:29But in theory, one could camp, and one could.
- 11:33One could camp.
- 11:34Yes.
- 11:35Should you lose your mind and want to.
- 11:37Right?
- 11:37Yes, one could camp.
- 11:39You can do it from your roof.
- 11:41I've celebrated Fourth of July from many roofs.
- 11:44Rooftops in my days.
- 11:45You know, houses or apartment buildings.
- 11:48The only downside, though, to Fourth of July, in my opinion, which honestly kept it from being a solid number one.
- 11:54Yeah.
- 11:55Is it sucks when it falls on a Monday through Thursday because you got to go to work the next day.
- 12:00That's the only thing that just drives me.
- 12:03Some might work the next day, but, you know, this is like one of those weeks during the summer where people are just like.
- 12:08Like Thanksgiving week where people are like.
- 12:10The whole week's discounted.
- 12:12Like, people just go on vacation that week, so nothing gets done anyway.
- 12:15So, I mean, you could go to work the next day, but.
- 12:19Yeah, that's true.
- 12:20That's true.
- 12:20One of your days off, that would be.
- 12:23That's true.
- 12:23That's true.
- 12:23Yeah.
- 12:24All right.
- 12:24So my number three, though my number three was actually Christmas, so.
- 12:29My number three was Christmas.
- 12:32Okay.
- 12:32Yeah, number three.
- 12:34So.
- 12:34Oh, I'm curious.
- 12:34Do you have it right tire?
- 12:35We'll find out when you do your number two.
- 12:38Mainly.
- 12:38No, mainly because the thing I love about Christmas ad.
- 12:41Again, common thieves.
- 12:43No one works that entire week, which is why I love Christmas.
- 12:46Like, in the U.S.
- 12:48yeah.
- 12:49It's over.
- 12:49Peace out.
- 12:50You know, it's good food, family.
- 12:53But why it's not higher for me.
- 12:55This is why it's not higher for me, is it can get a little too hectic, get a little too crazy.
- 13:01People can get a little down.
- 13:02They can get that, like.
- 13:04What's that?
- 13:05Seasonal holiday Disorder.
- 13:06Whatever.
- 13:07You know.
- 13:07Seasonal Effective disorder.
- 13:08Yeah, Seasonal Effective Distance Effectiveness Disorder.
- 13:12That's hard to say on a podcast, but, you know, so it's just a lot of emotion tied up with holidays, families in town.
- 13:19It gets, you know, it gets cramps your style a little bit.
- 13:23Least amount of light of the entire year again.
- 13:26Yeah, I know, I know.
- 13:27You're giving me a hard time about summer solstice.
- 13:29No, you're right.
- 13:30There's no.
- 13:31It's dark the whole time here.
- 13:33Yeah, you're right.
- 13:33Yeah, right.
- 13:34You're right.
- 13:34So.
- 13:35So.
- 13:35Yeah.
- 13:35So what?
- 13:36Okay, now I'm really curious, then.
- 13:38What is your number two?
- 13:40Okay.
- 13:40My number two, I.
- 13:42This Is my number two.
- 13:43Because I want it to be.
- 13:45But I have a backup in case you disqualify me for my number two.
- 13:49Oh, in case I disqualify you.
- 13:50Okay.
- 13:51Number two is my birthday.
- 13:55Can that be a holiday?
- 13:58If not, I have a backup.
- 13:59If not, I have a backup.
- 14:00I think it.
- 14:01No, I think you need a backup.
- 14:03I think it needs to be.
- 14:04Not everyone in the world can celebrate your.
- 14:06Well, I guess they could, but it's.
- 14:08I think we need a backup.
- 14:09Yeah.
- 14:10Okay.
- 14:10All right.
- 14:11I mean, in terms of, like, to me, it's like, that's a.
- 14:14That's, like, one of my favorite holidays of Ann for the year.
- 14:17So before we.
- 14:18Before we ask you to give her back up, like, what is the rationale for your birthday being ranked number two?
- 14:25I just feel like that's like, who doesn't love a day where, like, you get to hear from all of your friends and family, you get to spend time with them.
- 14:33Like, you get fun things.
- 14:34You get a free Starbucks.
- 14:36Like, I feel like those are the days where it's just like, this is.
- 14:39There's so much joy associated.
- 14:40But I'll go to my backup.
- 14:42My backup.
- 14:43Another.
- 14:43Another year closer to death, too, I guess.
- 14:46You know, I mean, can you tell that both of us are on opposite ends of the spectrum here?
- 14:51Like, this is why.
- 14:53This is why Christmas is number three.
- 14:55It's dark and depressing.
- 14:56And your birthday, you get another year closer to death.
- 14:59Like, or you get to hang out with all your friends, family, share all that stuff.
- 15:03Stuff.
- 15:03You know.
- 15:04Right.
- 15:04Like those basket.
- 15:05Yeah.
- 15:06All right.
- 15:06What's your.
- 15:06What's your other number?
- 15:07So my.
- 15:08My other number two is actually Memorial Day.
- 15:10I picked that for the reasons that you did.
- 15:12Outlined.
- 15:13Yes.
- 15:13Because, again, like, can you tell that Minnesota is a miserable place to live most of the year?
- 15:20Because Memorial Day, like, you said, kids are almost done with school.
- 15:24Everybody's, like, kicking off the summer.
- 15:26If you work at a place that observes summer Fridays, which I did for several years when I worked in advertising, it was like, this was the kickoff to summer Fridays.
- 15:33Everybody's, like, really ready to, like, get outside and make the most of the summer.
- 15:40And there's no better time in Minnesota than summer.
- 15:42So I.
- 15:43For all the reasons that you identified about Memorial Day, I also like the other kind of fun part of this, and this is true of Fourth of July, too, and is.
- 15:53I like when you get to honor the veterans on this day.
- 15:56Like, I think it's a really cool time to, like.
- 15:58Like, when you're in the Grocery store.
- 15:59You can be like, thank you for your service.
- 16:01Like that, that time and like that pride, which I don't feel like we get a.
- 16:05An opportunity enough to recognize the veterans in our country.
- 16:08Like, I do love that, like the.
- 16:10Seeing the kids go up to somebody, like a, you know, a World War II vet that's got his hat on at Jerry's grocery store and like, he.
- 16:17They get to go up and be like, thank you for your service.
- 16:19And I just, I love that part of it, too.
- 16:21So number.
- 16:22Yeah, that's a great point.
- 16:23I forgot about that.
- 16:23We've.
- 16:24We've regularly visited the, the veterans cemetery too, here in town.
- 16:27Yeah.
- 16:28And.
- 16:28Yeah.
- 16:29Take the kids over there.
- 16:30You know, my wife's a veteran too, so.
- 16:31Yeah, that's a great point.
- 16:32So I, you know, if we had a.
- 16:34Who's winning the rankings on this podcast, which we might.
- 16:37At the end, I think Memorial Day is the winner of the overall rankings, even though it might not be ranked number one.
- 16:43It is like the surprise hit of this podcast.
- 16:46Yeah.
- 16:47All right.
- 16:47And I can't wait to do number one, because I know you are going to vehemently disagree with mine, but you go first.
- 16:53What's your number one?
- 16:54Christmas.
- 16:55Number one, Holiday.
- 16:56Always has, always will be.
- 16:59Yes.
- 16:59Okay.
- 17:00Why?
- 17:01Because unlike you, I have very positive memories associated with Christmas and always had.
- 17:07It was my number three.
- 17:09It's number three.
- 17:11It's number one.
- 17:12For me, it's like Christmas, the Christmas season lasts a long time of the year.
- 17:17And my number one thing about it is that it brings out the goodness in people.
- 17:22And I think that for the whole.
- 17:24Pretty much for the whole month of December, you see people going above and beyond to, like, do things to help people in need.
- 17:32They're just kinder.
- 17:33People open doors for people.
- 17:35Like, there's, you know, there's like a general positivity in the air maybe until you get to your Christmas, family gatherings.
- 17:41I don't know everybody's situation, but in my case, it was always like a really warm, positive, fun time.
- 17:49My parents and grandparents always, like, made a huge deal of Christmas, so that, that was always a great thing.
- 17:55And so I just, I don't know, I feel like I get excited for it.
- 17:59I feel like Hallmark movies are out.
- 18:02Kindness is in the air.
- 18:04The spirit of giving.
- 18:05All these things, Chris, that make Christmas so wonderful.
- 18:08The holiday movie, you know, Jude Law looks amazing in that.
- 18:11You know, like, I get it.
- 18:12I get it.
- 18:12I mean, I can go with.
- 18:13I can go with Christmas is number one.
- 18:14I'm not.
- 18:14I'M not going to dispute that.
- 18:16I mean I had it number three.
- 18:17But.
- 18:17But my number one did not even make your top five.
- 18:20Five.
- 18:21That's gonna, that's what's interesting here.
- 18:23And I think, you know what, what is it?
- 18:25Thanksgiving.
- 18:26Thanksgiving.
- 18:27It's.
- 18:28It's next week.
- 18:29It's right around the corner.
- 18:31Oh, it's so awesome.
- 18:32You get two days off, Ann.
- 18:34Two days off heading into the weekend.
- 18:36The food is amazing.
- 18:38You get family too.
- 18:40And you get family for a shorter period of time.
- 18:42So, you know, I like that.
- 18:43It's also a big retail weekend.
- 18:45I don't have to spend money on food all weekend because I can just eat leftovers.
- 18:49I can eat turkey, I can eat stuffing.
- 18:50I can eat sweet potato roast, buttered rolls.
- 18:55Like, it's just amazing.
- 18:56Feast.
- 18:57There's football.
- 18:58Like, I just, I love Thanksgiving.
- 19:00Thanksgiving is the best.
- 19:02You.
- 19:03That's like Thanksgiving is my favorite.
- 19:05Like I'm gonna ba humbug your number one because.
- 19:08Okay, go ahead.
- 19:09Is my favorite time to get the hell out of here.
- 19:12Like I use those four days and I'm going on vacation.
- 19:15I am not eating any of your disgusting food.
- 19:17Especially the gravy.
- 19:19So gross.
- 19:20And like you hate gravy, don't you?
- 19:22If you, if you like, if you had to ask people, I'd be curious if you poll people, like, what is the most high stress time that our holiday that you can think of being around your family?
- 19:34Definitely Thanksgiving.
- 19:35Definitely Thanksgiving.
- 19:36Over Christmas.
- 19:37People are.
- 19:37Oh, for sure.
- 19:38People are having everybody.
- 19:40Like not everybody.
- 19:41A lot of people in the US celebrate Thanksgiving.
- 19:44So this is like regardless of your, you know, religious like this non denominational holiday.
- 19:50So people are drinking.
- 19:53It gets really sloppy.
- 19:55People are like talking about inappropriate things.
- 19:58I just, I don't, I think if you polled people, they'd say that Thanksgiving is more high stress.
- 20:03The most high.
- 20:04So, so you're, you're.
- 20:05So you're Thanksgiving dinner all you ready at one time.
- 20:08Like, no.
- 20:09Yeah, the cooking coordination is tough.
- 20:11But I think you have the same issue at Christmas.
- 20:13So I'm kind of, I'm kind of knowing.
- 20:15Avoiding that point.
- 20:16But.
- 20:16So wait.
- 20:16The thing I want to click into here is you're saying that your Thanksgiving dinner table conversations are a little more heated than your average Christmas dinner conversations or people are a little more lit up during Thanksgiving.
- 20:27For sure.
- 20:27You're like right, you're right.
- 20:29After an election.
- 20:30Like, you're like, really?
- 20:32Yeah, I just, I think it's a bad time of year.
- 20:37You will you start by saying what you're thankful for.
- 20:39And then it turns into how in the world could you have voted for that person?
- 20:44And everybody leaves drunk and angry.
- 20:46That's that.
- 20:48I love my synopsis of Thanksgiving.
- 20:50My absolute favorite thing is to sit down at any after any family dinner, whether it's Christmas or even Thanksgiving, any dinner really any family dinner, and sit there with coffee and just debate the hell out of everything.
- 21:02Which you know, I would love.
- 21:04Which is what partly all this podcast has come about.
- 21:07It's originated like I could do.
- 21:08Yeah, but you're a master debater.
- 21:10Like you're a master debater.
- 21:11So you win those arguments.
- 21:13Like you're not just casually sitting there trying to have a glass of wine and like picked up with your family.
- 21:19You are prepared at any point in time.
- 21:21Like you could be mid sleep and wake up and still debate the hell out of something with somebody.
- 21:27Not all of us are like you, Chris.
- 21:29So it does not end well.
- 21:31You when you can't rapid fire arguments of like what policy was put into place on X date because this helped, you know, children get free school lunches.
- 21:41Like, I don't know.
- 21:42Oh my God.
- 21:43It gets into bad territory.
- 21:44Oh my God.
- 21:45That is.
- 21:45That is true.
- 21:46I.
- 21:46I have, I have fractured quite a few family relationships over the years.
- 21:51As I'm thinking about this, my mom, if she's listening, will.
- 21:53Will understand that that comment very well.
- 21:56Oh man.
- 21:57And that was fun.
- 21:58Oh my God, I had a ton of fun doing this.
- 22:00Did you have fun?
- 22:01I thought it was great.
- 22:01I had such a good time.
- 22:02I wanna, I want more holidays to throw in the mix.
- 22:05I know we got tons, folks.
- 22:07We got tons of stuff.
- 22:08We're planning to rank here.
- 22:09We're gonna see if you guys like this.
- 22:10We'll keep doing it.
- 22:11Um, I think at the end of the day, which, which holiday snuck in there that surprised you?
- 22:15I think for me it was Memorial Day.
- 22:17Like how we both came out from Memorial Day for sure was really interesting.
- 22:21I had no doubt we were going to split on Thanksgiving because I know how much you just loathe gravy.
- 22:25Gravy enough, despite all the other points you had is is enough to turn your stomach.
- 22:29So.
- 22:29So, so we'll have to do it again, I think.
- 22:31And, and I think we'll have to do this again.
- 22:33You and you personally, you're such a ranker.
- 22:35I love it.
- 22:36You're such a ranker.
- 22:37I don't know.
- 22:38I think rank stuff might be contention for the best name for this.
- 22:42So people listening 1 Submit your favorite title.
- 22:46You're such a rank or rank stuff as which is your preferred title?
- 22:52If we continue this podcast beyond one episode, which is highly debatable, and then two, what other things should we be ranking?
- 23:02Anything is open.
- 23:03There is no thing that is out of bounds for this conversation.
- 23:07Yes.
- 23:08And the other the last point I'd make too, is for those listening and watching, let us know, were you Team Ann or Team Chris in terms of how we ranked our five holidays?
- 23:17Because we are curious to know.
- 23:19And was there a holiday that both of us missed that you think should have been included on the list?
- 23:23You know, so let us know on social media or on YouTube.
- 23:27And of course, as always, on behalf of Ann and myself, be careful out there.
