- 0:03Speaker 1: This is a podcast called twenty basketball and they all
- 0:09Speaker 1: wear a whist so, yeah, bad, But why didn't you
- 0:12Speaker 1: expect it's a podcast called twenty five whistles. Welcome to
- 0:19Speaker 1: episode forty six, where we have Joe Nardi coming on later,
- 0:23Speaker 1: which is pretty cool, although I will admit I think
- 0:25Speaker 1: he thought he was coming on to talk about teams
- 0:27Speaker 1: and bubble teams and and I was like, dude, tell
- 0:30Speaker 1: me everything about your life. He was like, dang, you
- 0:34Speaker 1: care a lot about my life. And I was like, yeah, man,
- 0:36Speaker 1: And I think he liked I think he I think
- 0:38Speaker 1: he liked it. I liked Joelnardi, but I don't think
- 0:42Speaker 1: it was what he thought it was gonna be, which
- 0:43Speaker 1: is cool. He probably liked it. No one ever asked
- 0:46Speaker 1: Joe about Joe, right, like Joey to be like, nobody
- 0:48Speaker 1: ever cares about me, So I hope he felt love.
- 0:50Speaker 1: That's cool. But we did get to basketball as well. Also,
- 0:52Speaker 1: something I learned today is Coleman has legs. You've never
- 0:56Speaker 1: seen him. He's in studio, We've only seen him on face.
- 0:58Speaker 1: I've never met him until today, Like physically, we embraced
- 1:02Speaker 1: a little too long. Sorry about that. Yeah, but it's Okay,
- 1:05Speaker 1: it's okay, but I get it. He's here. His wife's
- 1:07Speaker 1: also in studio too. Yeah, which has she ever been introduced? No,
- 1:11Speaker 1: you don't have to be on the show if you
- 1:12Speaker 1: don't want to. I'm Emily. That she is Emily. Hey, Emily,
- 1:19Speaker 1: how's this whole thing been? Not him traveling around but
- 1:22Speaker 1: him being involved in this because it kind of came
- 1:23Speaker 1: out of nowhere obviously. Yeah, it's crazy. I was like
- 1:27Speaker 1: very shocked about it, but I'm used to it now.
- 1:29Speaker 1: He's been gone for like two months now. Yeah, it's
- 1:32Speaker 1: pretty cool that was gone. How it's fun to live
- 1:35Speaker 1: by myself and then whenever I want it, if he's
- 1:37Speaker 1: like in a cool city, I'll just fly in. This
- 1:40Speaker 1: was all actually her idea, the entire trip. She just
- 1:43Speaker 1: wanted me to get get back out of Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:45Speaker 1: I get it. And he's your new Boyfriend's he muscular? Yeah,
- 1:48Speaker 1: he's a lot bigger yea. Yeah. So look we're all here.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Coleman's here in person, which is pretty cool. Are you
- 1:54Speaker 1: gonna be her Monday too? I will. You went to
- 1:56Speaker 1: the game here in town last night, the Belmont game? Yes?
- 1:58Speaker 1: Did they win? They did by one point? Came back
- 2:00Speaker 1: down seventeen at half. It was awesome. They were down
- 2:03Speaker 1: seventeen seventeen A. And who did you interview for this
- 2:05Speaker 1: show We're gonna do later? Uh, Missouri State. I don't
- 2:09Speaker 1: know if Casey Alexander will be on this one. So
- 2:11Speaker 1: Missouri State Dana Afford, their head coach. And how is he?
- 2:14Speaker 1: He was awesome? You went up there? Is that when
- 2:16Speaker 1: we talked to you in Branson? Yes? Yes? And how
- 2:19Speaker 1: was he like as a dude? Like nice? Incredible? All
- 2:22Speaker 1: three that I've interviewed have been so nice. I mean
- 2:24Speaker 1: for me, that's like a dream to get to talk
- 2:27Speaker 1: to these coaches about their journey. I mean, I've been
- 2:29Speaker 1: playing dynasty modes on nca College Basketball for about the
- 2:33Speaker 1: last twenty years. Like that sort of asked them about
- 2:36Speaker 1: their journey. You know, they're come up from a smaller
- 2:39Speaker 1: conference and now a mid major and then you know,
- 2:41Speaker 1: hopefully looking to make a bigger step. I guess in
- 2:44Speaker 1: the future. Did you get free tickets for that show? Yeah?
- 2:46Speaker 1: Both Missouri State and Belmont hooked me up. Let's go
- 2:49Speaker 1: is it because we're hooking it up? Absolutely? Okay, you
- 2:52Speaker 1: guys have been same changers, right job. I appreciate it.
- 2:55Speaker 1: You're welcome, man, I just you haven't done. I'm gonna
- 2:59Speaker 1: be honest about this. I said. Let's I like one thing.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I said, Hey, can we make sure that Coleman gets
- 3:04Speaker 1: into these games and has access? That's all I said.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And then Kevin and Mike and Lauren freaking bulldog It
- 3:09Speaker 1: and Eddie and I don't do crap except for the Yeah,
- 3:12Speaker 1: so shut up, all right, let him, let him get anything.
- 3:15Speaker 1: We'll shout out to them because they have been making
- 3:18Speaker 1: my world so much easier. Next thing, Gas, can you
- 3:21Speaker 1: get to help with that? Understand? All right, let's let's
- 3:26Speaker 1: warm up here. Here's the warm up question. And there's
- 3:28Speaker 1: a reason I'm asking it, but we'll talk about tennis
- 3:30Speaker 1: for just a second, and that you ever played at all? Like,
- 3:32Speaker 1: what's the most tennis you've ever played? Because today is
- 3:33Speaker 1: National Tennis Day. Really yeah, it's random, exactly, And I
- 3:37Speaker 1: just saw it as a headline because they always with
- 3:39Speaker 1: the stupid days, and I'm like, National Tennis Day. Here's
- 3:42Speaker 1: the history of tennis. Ready for it? Yeah, it's pretty boring.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Tennis has been a favorite sport of mini since the
- 3:47Speaker 1: nineteenth century. Tennis have been around since the mid eighteen hundreds,
- 3:50Speaker 1: though I'm two fronts and exactly Kerry Jim and Alguiro Pierre.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I developed the game on his lawn in England, and
- 3:56Speaker 1: then it goes on and on. But what's the most
- 3:59Speaker 1: tennis you've ever played? Eddie? Middle school? So I played
- 4:04Speaker 1: in seventh grade. I was like, I have to do
- 4:07Speaker 1: an elective and there was a hot girl in tennis,
- 4:10Speaker 1: and I was like, I'm going to do tennis to
- 4:12Speaker 1: get with this hot girl. You gottatives in seventh grade? Yeah, yeah,
- 4:16Speaker 1: I mean it was just like a class, but you
- 4:17Speaker 1: got to pick something. Yeah, you get to pick tennis.
- 4:19Speaker 1: You want to do track, you wanta do whatever? Like yeah,
- 4:21Speaker 1: so I like tennis. I didn't play any matches. I
- 4:23Speaker 1: just went to the class. Do we ever blow the whistle?
- 4:26Speaker 1: No we didn't. I got you, all right, everybody, all right,
- 4:28Speaker 1: show starts. But have you ever played on grass or
- 4:31Speaker 1: ever walked on a grass court? Yeah? It's completely different. Yeah,
- 4:34Speaker 1: what's that like? Like? Is it soft grass, hard grass?
- 4:37Speaker 1: Is it like a green? I would say it's in
- 4:39Speaker 1: the middle. So you have and I only know this
- 4:41Speaker 1: and I can get to my tennis story in a minute,
- 4:43Speaker 1: but there is a hard court, which is like like regular,
- 4:45Speaker 1: what we know? Did you play tennis? I did? Okay,
- 4:49Speaker 1: she's not even she's an ex tennis champion. So I
- 4:51Speaker 1: was like, maybe we should go to Emily for this.
- 4:53Speaker 1: But they're like three levels. It's hard court, there's like
- 4:55Speaker 1: a grass court, and then there's clay court. And the
- 4:58Speaker 1: hard court good for servers because it's like ball flies
- 5:01Speaker 1: off of it. Grass is kind of middle. You can
- 5:03Speaker 1: move and you can serve. And clay is why certain
- 5:05Speaker 1: players like Nadal win because it's all about it takes.
- 5:09Speaker 1: It takes so much. Well no, stop talking, hey, okay
- 5:13Speaker 1: do but I'm saying it's that's moving because the ball
- 5:15Speaker 1: loses a lot of steam. Okay, spin. No, I was
- 5:20Speaker 1: just throwing things up. Yes, he's just saying words lost
- 5:22Speaker 1: city McEnroe say, you can't the ball doesn't bounce off
- 5:27Speaker 1: the ground is hard. Basically that's this clay. So it
- 5:29Speaker 1: takes a lot of that power away in power game.
- 5:32Speaker 1: So those guys that can move dominate clay, which is
- 5:34Speaker 1: why it all wins so many of those and it
- 5:36Speaker 1: seems like they're sliding all over the place when they
- 5:37Speaker 1: play that home You did say that earlier, Thank you
- 5:39Speaker 1: for that. I just why don't you acknowledge that? I
- 5:40Speaker 1: do acknowledge that, Kevin. In high school, I was a
- 5:43Speaker 1: TA for racket sports. It was a class. So that's
- 5:45Speaker 1: probably the closest I've ever been a teacher's assistants. Was
- 5:49Speaker 1: it just tennis or did you do it? Is like tennis? Uh,
- 5:53Speaker 1: handball but with a racket every rocketball? Yes, yes, of
- 6:00Speaker 1: months and they be different games or different things to learn. Mikey,
- 6:03Speaker 1: we sports. I used to be really good very little.
- 6:08Speaker 1: My buddies and I after our senior year that summer
- 6:11Speaker 1: we played a lot of tennis, just a way to
- 6:12Speaker 1: be competitive. But that's been the extent of my tennis career.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Didn't play any tennis at all ever. We didn't have
- 6:17Speaker 1: we had tennis courts, but we played basketball on We
- 6:19Speaker 1: took the net down to play basketball at school. So
- 6:21Speaker 1: we had no no tennis at all. And I became
- 6:24Speaker 1: friends with Andy Roddick, who was three or four in
- 6:27Speaker 1: the world at the time. I didn't know hi when
- 6:28Speaker 1: he was number one when he won the US Open.
- 6:30Speaker 1: He was nineteen then, but we became friends and he
- 6:33Speaker 1: was like, do you want some tennis gear? I was like,
- 6:37Speaker 1: I don't play tennis because I didn't say that. Do
- 6:39Speaker 1: you want tennis gear? Yeah, so like rackets and everything. Bro,
- 6:43Speaker 1: our little group me a mod cruise. We wait a
- 6:46Speaker 1: group of us. We had like ten thousand dollars in tennis, right,
- 6:49Speaker 1: we were like one nickel players with ten thousand dollars gear.
- 6:51Speaker 1: I remember seeing all you guys wearing like the same shoes.
- 6:54Speaker 1: One we were special tennis player. We had the shoes.
- 6:58Speaker 1: We had the racquets. It called like two grand extra
- 7:00Speaker 1: ones that were strong we had. We were covered in
- 7:02Speaker 1: the cost because Andy was like, just how many how
- 7:05Speaker 1: many hear idiot friends? Do you want? You guys go playing?
- 7:07Speaker 1: Make your own league up. So that's what you would do.
- 7:09Speaker 1: People we go up to the course, they'd be like,
- 7:11Speaker 1: Danny's guys must be for real that we can't even
- 7:12Speaker 1: serve it over the head were terrible. You guys would
- 7:15Speaker 1: go to the local high school. Yeah, we would play
- 7:17Speaker 1: all over. We were starting to get some tournament play,
- 7:21Speaker 1: but that's then we stopped. But I much prefer pickleball.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Pickleball is awesome, and then I was pretty good racketball
- 7:28Speaker 1: player in college, but tennis was never played it. And
- 7:31Speaker 1: if you couldn't serve it. It's kind of over and
- 7:34Speaker 1: I just didn't have the patience, didn't grow up at
- 7:35Speaker 1: the game. It's kind of a rich person game. And
- 7:37Speaker 1: you know, it was stupid with you and your buddies,
- 7:39Speaker 1: and like this was a little before me I went
- 7:40Speaker 1: to talk about you. I went to maybe one match
- 7:44Speaker 1: where we went to the high school and played and
- 7:46Speaker 1: you got into a fight with one of our buddies
- 7:48Speaker 1: and it was serious. And what's so stupid is like
- 7:51Speaker 1: there's no judge there, so like they're arguing about it
- 7:53Speaker 1: hit the line, bro, No it didn't. Well, no one's
- 7:56Speaker 1: gonna know who's right, like exactly, that's not exactly what
- 7:59Speaker 1: happened was the line. I remember the line call. But
- 8:01Speaker 1: my argument is if you can't tell, just replay the point.
- 8:06Speaker 1: If there's any argue about whatsoever, replay the point. And
- 8:08Speaker 1: was a cruise. Obviously it doesn't matter who it was.
- 8:11Speaker 1: And obviously I can't see. One of my eyes doesn't
- 8:14Speaker 1: work at all, so I had to do a lot
- 8:16Speaker 1: of trusting. But I would go like that was out,
- 8:19Speaker 1: or let's replay it. They'll be like, well you can't
- 8:20Speaker 1: see anyway, trust me, it hit the line, So we
- 8:23Speaker 1: got to a massive, massive fights. Remember, just competition, you know,
- 8:26Speaker 1: you know what's up. Yeah, all right, let's go to
- 8:29Speaker 1: the tittle tattle tattle. Which quarterback do you think is
- 8:39Speaker 1: more likely to get a big contract? Daniel Jones or
- 8:42Speaker 1: Geno Smith? I just because of the market. Probably Daniel
- 8:45Speaker 1: Jones was asking for forty five million, changed his agent.
- 8:49Speaker 1: And because you asked for it doesn't mean you're gonna
- 8:50Speaker 1: get it, doesn't eve mean you really think you're gonna
- 8:51Speaker 1: get it. But if you ask forty five million, it's
- 8:54Speaker 1: easier to get thirty five million. But man, he had
- 8:57Speaker 1: his year. He did have his year. I mean, day
- 9:00Speaker 1: Ball coming in change a kid's life, and he came in,
- 9:04Speaker 1: he played wonderfully. Does he twenty five million? Sure? I
- 9:07Speaker 1: could see that and not that's not a whole lot
- 9:09Speaker 1: of money. That's a crazy amount of money. But when
- 9:11Speaker 1: you look at the market on quarterbacks that can actually produce,
- 9:14Speaker 1: they have to pay him. Don't forget. They didn't take
- 9:18Speaker 1: his fifth year option. They were like, we're good, four years,
- 9:21Speaker 1: We're good, buddy Sea later just finished this year out,
- 9:23Speaker 1: we're out. They said no, they declined the option. Daniel
- 9:25Speaker 1: Jones said, okay, well, we played. New coach comes in.
- 9:28Speaker 1: The greatest thing to ever happened to him, The greatest
- 9:30Speaker 1: thing to ever happened to him was that they didn't
- 9:32Speaker 1: believe in him enough to sign him for another year,
- 9:35Speaker 1: and they had a new coach coming in. They couldn't
- 9:38Speaker 1: get another quarterback, so we're gonna go with Daniel Jones.
- 9:42Speaker 1: And they turned he's rich. He's gonna be rich for
- 9:45Speaker 1: a year. He's good, He's financially set for the rest
- 9:47Speaker 1: of his life, and he might actually be pretty good.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Is the real thing, because people started after what six
- 9:52Speaker 1: seven games, you have enough tape on a guy to
- 9:54Speaker 1: know his tendencies, to know the tendencies of the offensive
- 9:57Speaker 1: coordinator of every So in baseball, you get somebody well tape,
- 10:00Speaker 1: then go, well, we just won't throw there, we won't
- 10:03Speaker 1: throw this pitch, we'll do this. Well, they start to
- 10:05Speaker 1: do it with Daniel Jones, like, fine, I'll just run more.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Oh crap, now he runs well, now we have to.
- 10:12Speaker 1: He had enough tools to actually keep teams from locking
- 10:16Speaker 1: him down on any one specific skill set. But forty
- 10:19Speaker 1: five million, I don't think that's going to happen. I mean,
- 10:22Speaker 1: that's Aaron Rodgers type money. That we even roll our
- 10:24Speaker 1: eyes at, but probably deserves it at this point in
- 10:27Speaker 1: his career. But no, I don't think forty five million
- 10:29Speaker 1: I would go. I would go Daniel Jones at twenty five.
- 10:33Speaker 1: But Geno Smith has earned his money too. He's older too,
- 10:37Speaker 1: and he is he's earned his money too. But he'll
- 10:40Speaker 1: get twenty He should get twenty million for a couple
- 10:42Speaker 1: of a few years. There's no seven year deal here.
- 10:45Speaker 1: There's no guaranteed money like Deshaun Watson or like you know,
- 10:49Speaker 1: Baltimore is being pounded with, like Lamar Jackson wants all
- 10:53Speaker 1: this guaranteed money, like Deshaun Watson. Man, if they do that,
- 10:57Speaker 1: if two quarterbacks get all this this guaranteed money, it
- 11:01Speaker 1: does change it because now they can just look at
- 11:02Speaker 1: the owners of the Browns and go, they're idiots. They
- 11:04Speaker 1: gave them all that money because they're idiots. But if
- 11:06Speaker 1: two owners do that, now it's a real thing that
- 11:09Speaker 1: every owner has to deal with. You know, they're calling
- 11:11Speaker 1: each other going, don't be giving all this guaranteed money.
- 11:13Speaker 1: We have to stick together. Yeah, they're idiots in Cleveland,
- 11:16Speaker 1: but we can't do that. What I would worry about
- 11:18Speaker 1: is Dan Snyder and Washington going to sell the team.
- 11:20Speaker 1: He could really screw up that place before he leaves
- 11:24Speaker 1: by giving somebody a bunch of guaranteed money that then
- 11:26Speaker 1: he doesn't even have to pay. Yeah yeah, Scott free
- 11:29Speaker 1: and then just messing it up for ever. I mean,
- 11:30Speaker 1: he could set the league back. He would do with
- 11:32Speaker 1: quarter hey would all right? Next question, do you think
- 11:36Speaker 1: there's any reality to the rumors of Justin Fields being
- 11:39Speaker 1: traded before the draft? I don't. I think it's hard
- 11:41Speaker 1: to get a good quarterback. We see it. There just
- 11:45Speaker 1: aren't enough, and they draft quarterbacks in the first round
- 11:48Speaker 1: constantly that don't first round quarterbacks that don't make it.
- 11:51Speaker 1: So when you finally have something that you can build
- 11:53Speaker 1: a franchise around, and I think it's cute to think, well,
- 11:56Speaker 1: we'll trade him to get some more picks. We've got
- 11:58Speaker 1: a few quarterbacks coming out of the draft. CJ Strout, Yeah,
- 12:01Speaker 1: Bryce Young. There's no guarantee any of those guys are
- 12:03Speaker 1: gonna be good in the NFL. I don't think any
- 12:05Speaker 1: of em can't miss. I don't think Will Levisa Kentucky's
- 12:09Speaker 1: can't miss, and they're saying he's the number two guy
- 12:11Speaker 1: out this year. Maybe number one, probably not number one,
- 12:14Speaker 1: but you know, every once in a while you see
- 12:15Speaker 1: somebody to say that I do not think they will
- 12:17Speaker 1: trade him. No chance, no chance. And it's also posturing
- 12:23Speaker 1: pre draft. Who don't forget that everybody's posturing pre draft
- 12:26Speaker 1: to figure out what pick they're gonna get, What pick
- 12:29Speaker 1: can they get, who can they get to fall? Who
- 12:31Speaker 1: can they lie about their character? The kid at Georgia,
- 12:33Speaker 1: they're like, bad character guy, and so the story comes
- 12:36Speaker 1: out last week they you know, a bad character guy.
- 12:38Speaker 1: But here's one of the truth is he paid for
- 12:40Speaker 1: one of the walk on's meals all year because walk
- 12:42Speaker 1: ons don't get their food paid for. So you want
- 12:44Speaker 1: to talk about a character and you say it's a
- 12:45Speaker 1: bad character guy. Let's at least have a little reflection
- 12:47Speaker 1: here of what he was doing that nobody even knows about.
- 12:50Speaker 1: There's a walk on on the team who was not
- 12:52Speaker 1: able to be fed because that's the rules, and he
- 12:55Speaker 1: paid for every single meal, so at least mentioned. Hey,
- 12:58Speaker 1: here's some good character too. But all this stuff is
- 13:00Speaker 1: done by teams, so the stock of players will fall
- 13:04Speaker 1: and they can grab him. What else you got, NBA here,
- 13:07Speaker 1: do you think Russell Westbrook chose the Clippers just to
- 13:09Speaker 1: spite the Lakers. I think Russell Westbrook didn't want to
- 13:12Speaker 1: move out of the house. Yeah, he stays right there. Yeah,
- 13:14Speaker 1: So I don't know if it's as much about Laker.
- 13:16Speaker 1: It's the same play. It's a different locker room in
- 13:17Speaker 1: the same building. I think Russell Westbrook I would have
- 13:20Speaker 1: done the same thing. It's like if I were Lamar
- 13:21Speaker 1: Jackson and I wasn't gonna say in Baltimore, maybe you
- 13:25Speaker 1: go play for Washington. You may not have to move.
- 13:30Speaker 1: That's a big deal. We forget that they do have
- 13:31Speaker 1: real lives and they're real people with real houses, real friends,
- 13:34Speaker 1: real families. They don't want to constantly get moved around.
- 13:37Speaker 1: But also, if you live in LA, you probably don't
- 13:38Speaker 1: want to move out of LA. Yeah, if you're Russell Westbrook.
- 13:42Speaker 1: So I don't know if it's despite the Lakers, but
- 13:45Speaker 1: it's probably because he didn't want to have to change
- 13:47Speaker 1: his life. And also he'll probably go and he'll be
- 13:50Speaker 1: more of a factor over there with the clubs, and
- 13:52Speaker 1: I think he'll actually help that team a little bit more.
- 13:55Speaker 1: There's only so much he could do on a bad
- 13:58Speaker 1: LA team that needed shooting. He's not a shooter. They
- 14:01Speaker 1: have shooting with the clips a little bit, so not
- 14:05Speaker 1: that there it's really gonna help them. I saw their
- 14:07Speaker 1: odds change none upward down their Vegas odds whenever he
- 14:11Speaker 1: went over because the line moves a little bit, but
- 14:13Speaker 1: didn't move at all. It's say the same, which was weird.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Clippers Lakers that are like a real rivalry, Like if
- 14:18Speaker 1: they're both good, sure, but what's even a rival? What's
- 14:22Speaker 1: the All Star Game? They don't care? That's true, there
- 14:24Speaker 1: are no rivals. What's the right unless you just genuinely
- 14:27Speaker 1: don't like somebody as a person. It doesn't even matter
- 14:29Speaker 1: what team they're on. There's no rivals. Sometimes that your
- 14:32Speaker 1: rival plays on your same team Lebrono Westbrook. So but yeah,
- 14:37Speaker 1: I do think they probably when they're both good and competing,
- 14:39Speaker 1: I do think they get. They have their little moments.
- 14:43Speaker 1: The Clippers are always disrespected when it comes to Clippers
- 14:45Speaker 1: versus Lakers. The Lakers are the team. I don't know
- 14:48Speaker 1: any Clippers fans. I know Lakers fans. I know Clippers fans.
- 14:51Speaker 1: You do, yeah, because they're like family and they have
- 14:54Speaker 1: seats there. But other than they don't. They don't have
- 14:57Speaker 1: Lakers seats. They have Clipper season tickets a lot cheaper
- 14:59Speaker 1: and there's a Clippers What are these actors? Are they
- 15:03Speaker 1: much cheaper? One of those actors is a big Clipper fan,
- 15:06Speaker 1: like he was a kid actor, like Frankie Moonez or
- 15:08Speaker 1: something him in the middle. Boy, he's a NASCAR driver now,
- 15:14Speaker 1: oh is Yeah, he shouldnt be ANASCAR driver, Mike, Will
- 15:17Speaker 1: you look at who Clippers famous fans are? Billy Crystal
- 15:21Speaker 1: is the first thing that comes up. Really, yeah, well,
- 15:23Speaker 1: I ain't gonna talk about I'm talking about Jesse McCartney
- 15:26Speaker 1: or Frankie Moonez or something. All right, next question, as
- 15:29Speaker 1: the NBA begins the second half of the season, do
- 15:31Speaker 1: you think Yokich is the likely runaway MVP while the
- 15:34Speaker 1: odds have him as the likely runaway MVP? And I
- 15:37Speaker 1: think he probably wins it unless he gets hurt. He
- 15:41Speaker 1: just does it all. He does it all and they
- 15:45Speaker 1: can't stop him. I mean it's Larry Bird the the end.
- 15:52Speaker 1: I mean, he's Larry Bird. He's big, he can shoot,
- 15:56Speaker 1: he can We don't even remember Larry Bird really because
- 15:58Speaker 1: we're I mean he's before and especially Coleman was like
- 16:02Speaker 1: not even spermy yet so but it's wise right here.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Bones Well she wasn't either. But like for us, I
- 16:11Speaker 1: remember Larry Bird being old and doing the McDonald's commercials,
- 16:14Speaker 1: all right, we'll bounce it off one, off the corner,
- 16:16Speaker 1: nothing but net. Oh yeah, I remember the little commercials,
- 16:19Speaker 1: all right, off the rim, off the cat, off the bleachers,
- 16:23Speaker 1: nothing but net. And you remember him being forty five
- 16:25Speaker 1: and planned for the Celtics and then coaching the Pacers.
- 16:29Speaker 1: But we didn't catch prime Bird. But Larry Bird, as
- 16:32Speaker 1: much as we remember m a shooter. He said he
- 16:33Speaker 1: was six ten. You remember Larry Bird was a big dude,
- 16:37Speaker 1: and we don't remember we had six ten because we
- 16:38Speaker 1: don't remember it. But also he he was known so
- 16:40Speaker 1: much as an outside shooter, pass or creator, like now
- 16:43Speaker 1: those are point guard guys, unless you're like Yoka. Cho's
- 16:46Speaker 1: also a massive dude. He's Larry Bird. Unathletic and what
- 16:53Speaker 1: you meant to say white, Yeah, yes, that's what I meant.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Yes he is. Unless he gets hurt, he's gonna win
- 17:00Speaker 1: the thing. Yeah, Okay, going to anti double a here,
- 17:02Speaker 1: how much would you trust Alabama in the tournament if
- 17:04Speaker 1: they end up having to play without Brandon Miller. So
- 17:06Speaker 1: I was watching the game. We record this later on Thursday.
- 17:08Speaker 1: I was watching the game last night Alabama and South Carolina.
- 17:11Speaker 1: South Carolina a chance to win it. They were playing
- 17:13Speaker 1: in South Carolina. Every time Brandon Miller will get the ball,
- 17:14Speaker 1: that the Karody'll lock him up. That crazy, I know, crazy,
- 17:19Speaker 1: and so we can talk about the guns. I saw
- 17:22Speaker 1: him miss a couple of free throws early, but do
- 17:24Speaker 1: went off. He scored for the overtime put him into
- 17:28Speaker 1: the forties. But South Canina played tough. They're they're like
- 17:31Speaker 1: gritty headband. Long haired white dude fouled out at the
- 17:34Speaker 1: end of the game, which hurt him because he was
- 17:37Speaker 1: like just He also was like Chunky, and I always
- 17:40Speaker 1: admired like a Chunky player just goes hard, that doesn't
- 17:43Speaker 1: get tired. I think they do. But he was out
- 17:50Speaker 1: of his mind. He did miss a three late. He
- 17:51Speaker 1: could have won the game with a three late. But
- 17:53Speaker 1: Brandon Miller was awesome and I hate it and I
- 17:56Speaker 1: wish they would suspend him because we play him next.
- 17:58Speaker 1: We play him Saturday. Oh that's why you? Oh yeah,
- 18:00Speaker 1: for sure. All just fighting like crazy online to spend out,
- 18:04Speaker 1: you know, illegally, and we're like, bro, if we weren't
- 18:05Speaker 1: playing them, wouldn't give a crap. But he's amazing. If
- 18:09Speaker 1: he wasn't with that team, I think they're probably a
- 18:11Speaker 1: four or five seed. But he's the leader of that team.
- 18:14Speaker 1: NATO it's always had, has these really athletic long teams,
- 18:18Speaker 1: but they only shoot threes, and they only shoot under
- 18:19Speaker 1: the basket for the most part. If it, and we'll
- 18:22Speaker 1: talk to Joelnardi about it. He's such a game changer.
- 18:26Speaker 1: They could win the whole thing if he's there. If not,
- 18:29Speaker 1: I don't see that really happening. Colemo, what do you think?
- 18:32Speaker 1: This is your expertise here. I'm not a believer even
- 18:35Speaker 1: if they have him in Bama winning a national title.
- 18:38Speaker 1: I think they just have too many facets to what
- 18:40Speaker 1: they do that don't lead to a national title team.
- 18:43Speaker 1: No team has shot the three ball as much as
- 18:45Speaker 1: they do outside of Villanova in recent history that's had
- 18:48Speaker 1: success and winning a national title. We talked about it
- 18:52Speaker 1: in a previous podcast, how little of an impact big
- 18:56Speaker 1: time freshman have had on national championship winning teams over
- 18:59Speaker 1: since twenty five. Team Bama very reliant on freshman this year,
- 19:03Speaker 1: and they played a really fast tempo. Teams that play
- 19:06Speaker 1: at that fast to tempo oftentimes great opportunities to give
- 19:09Speaker 1: themselves a chance at getting upset throughout that six game run.
- 19:13Speaker 1: I don't trust Bama even with them. Without them, I
- 19:15Speaker 1: especially don't trust them. Well, I've changed my mind. I
- 19:17Speaker 1: said that two last game, but I watched them. Now
- 19:18Speaker 1: I've seen him once. I'm like, I watched one good
- 19:22Speaker 1: game against a bad team, and I'm like, no, they
- 19:24Speaker 1: can't win it all, baby, So colemon answer is probably right.
- 19:28Speaker 1: But since I watched them, I was like, no, they're
- 19:30Speaker 1: really good, man, trust me. Um, Okay, what else you got?
- 19:32Speaker 1: Last one? Here? With most of the talk coming out
- 19:34Speaker 1: with the serious contenders in the Big twelve in the SEC,
- 19:37Speaker 1: do you think Arizona and UCL are being overlooked? This
- 19:39Speaker 1: is why I'm gonna say yes, just because they're on
- 19:41Speaker 1: the West coast. Now we don't watch them. They're being overlooked.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Probably not because of their talent or anybody going. They
- 19:46Speaker 1: suck overlooked as they not talked about equally because we
- 19:50Speaker 1: just just don't see them play the football teams get
- 19:52Speaker 1: anybody west because they just play way later and it's
- 19:55Speaker 1: not even that were like, we don't like them because
- 19:56Speaker 1: they're West. When your game doesn't come on until nine
- 20:00Speaker 1: or ten or eleven, Central or Eastern, the eyeballs that
- 20:04Speaker 1: are writing these stories are just gonna accidentally overlooked them.
- 20:08Speaker 1: So they're both very talented teams. But yes, of course
- 20:12Speaker 1: they're overlook They're not getting the attention that they probably deserve,
- 20:15Speaker 1: but it's because of where they live. Colemn Yeah, I
- 20:17Speaker 1: think absolutely they're being overlooked. I think behind Houston, UCLA
- 20:21Speaker 1: is my next favorite to win a national title. I
- 20:23Speaker 1: love their balance. They've got a couple guys on their
- 20:25Speaker 1: team that are veteran that have been to a Final
- 20:27Speaker 1: four before, in Hakes, in Tiger Campbell. I think that
- 20:31Speaker 1: could be a team that makes the run to the
- 20:33Speaker 1: Final four, perhaps wins a national championship. That being on
- 20:36Speaker 1: the West coast is getting overlooked. It's just a bad
- 20:38Speaker 1: situation for players that want to be in prime time.
- 20:42Speaker 1: It's tough to play. They'd have to play a four
- 20:44Speaker 1: thirty or five o'clock game for us to be able
- 20:47Speaker 1: to watch it in prime time, and they ain't doing that.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Seven periods barely over you know what I mean? All right,
- 20:54Speaker 1: that's it. Thank you. Before we started this, Kevin walkdon
- 21:04Speaker 1: and goes, do you know about to Aaron Rodgers Darkness
- 21:06Speaker 1: Retreat And I said, why, what do you mean I
- 21:08Speaker 1: know about what he was doing? Goes, No, is it over?
- 21:10Speaker 1: It's over. It's like the groundhog comes out and we
- 21:11Speaker 1: see the shadow and the wm on. We go all right,
- 21:14Speaker 1: more winter. Well that's the best part two on social
- 21:16Speaker 1: media and I was like, he's out of the darkness,
- 21:17Speaker 1: and like there's pictures of him like walking out, he's
- 21:20Speaker 1: running into things. He's out of the darkness. As of Wednesday,
- 21:23Speaker 1: he was doing it in southern Oregon and this place
- 21:26Speaker 1: is a partially underground Hobbit like structure with three hundred
- 21:29Speaker 1: square feet of space, no light, with a queen bed,
- 21:32Speaker 1: a bathroom, a meditation like matt on the floor, fully powered.
- 21:36Speaker 1: If you want to turn the lights on an endpoint,
- 21:38Speaker 1: you can and this place is booked up for the
- 21:40Speaker 1: next eighteen months. Yeah, I hear you. But what happened
- 21:43Speaker 1: did he come out? And I don't know. He said
- 21:45Speaker 1: they should have a table out front when he walks
- 21:47Speaker 1: out with all the hats on it ye jets yea
- 21:51Speaker 1: retirement and then he does this thing where he's like,
- 21:53Speaker 1: puts one on. I's like, nope, just kidding. Then he
- 21:55Speaker 1: pulls out that this is jeopardy and then he's gonna
- 21:58Speaker 1: go back in the host Jet. That's what he should do,
- 22:01Speaker 1: but instead we got to wait through the process and say, now,
- 22:04Speaker 1: what the heck is going to happen. I would love
- 22:06Speaker 1: for him to go to the Jets. It would be
- 22:08Speaker 1: hilarious because Farve did it. First of all, that's funny
- 22:12Speaker 1: to me. He's doing exactly what Farve did. He treated
- 22:14Speaker 1: his backup quarterback exactly like Farve treated him, like history
- 22:17Speaker 1: is repeating itself. And then him to go to New
- 22:20Speaker 1: York would just it's the two things that love themselves
- 22:25Speaker 1: so much, and it would create the perfect media storm,
- 22:30Speaker 1: either for the Jets to win and he would be
- 22:32Speaker 1: like a Darling or just like a Kyrie Brooklyn type
- 22:35Speaker 1: situation where everything has gone wrong and it's a disaster.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I don't think it goes middle of the road. If
- 22:39Speaker 1: he goes to the Jets. I think he ends up
- 22:42Speaker 1: staying with the Packers. Honestly, I think he does it
- 22:43Speaker 1: again and stays with the Packers. I would love for
- 22:45Speaker 1: car to go to the Jets. I was looking again
- 22:48Speaker 1: at these these Car stats. Play hid the worst defense
- 22:51Speaker 1: period of any quarterback over his time there. When he's
- 22:55Speaker 1: with the Raiders, he had literally the worst defense every year,
- 23:00Speaker 1: and that sucks. I'd like for him to get a shot,
- 23:01Speaker 1: because I believe in him. I don't know why he's gritty.
- 23:04Speaker 1: He cries at press conference. All I need you cry
- 23:07Speaker 1: at press conference. I believe you can show him practice
- 23:09Speaker 1: and I'm done. So I would like to see Car
- 23:13Speaker 1: with the Jets. Rogers will probably stay with the Packers.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I think Lamar stays in Baltimore. I don't know how they.
- 23:19Speaker 1: You can't let him go unless you're just getting all
- 23:21Speaker 1: the picks from somebody. Still, you can't unless you're just
- 23:24Speaker 1: not gonna pay him. And he only wants all this
- 23:26Speaker 1: guaranteed money, and you're gonna be Dan Snyder and go.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I'll give him guaranteed money. I give one billion guaranteed.
- 23:31Speaker 1: And then he sells the team the next day and
- 23:32Speaker 1: somebody's on the hook for a billion bucks. He sells
- 23:34Speaker 1: it to the Lamar the Yes, but we have nothing
- 23:39Speaker 1: for Aaron Rodgers, no indication of what he's gonna do. No, No,
- 23:42Speaker 1: that was it. I don't like that. You said Kevin
- 23:44Speaker 1: that he can turn the lights on. How do we
- 23:45Speaker 1: know that he exactly? We don't. He was watching Netflix
- 23:49Speaker 1: the whole time. That's not a retreat. I'll be on
- 23:52Speaker 1: a darning street all weekend. Guess prove I'm not. Prove
- 23:55Speaker 1: I'm not. The question is we'll go around the room
- 23:58Speaker 1: your favorite athlete in sports now, not as a kid,
- 24:01Speaker 1: but we could do both favorite athlete as a kid
- 24:05Speaker 1: and your favorite athlete right now. And for me, that
- 24:08Speaker 1: perspective changes because now I know professional athletes and some
- 24:10Speaker 1: of them are just idiots, and some of them are awesome,
- 24:12Speaker 1: but they're just like normal people bros. Yeah they got
- 24:16Speaker 1: they have more money, but they're just normal people. It's
- 24:18Speaker 1: like artists that I know that are really famous. Some
- 24:20Speaker 1: of them are awesome, some of them were radiots, but
- 24:23Speaker 1: they're so they're just normal in many many ways. So, Edie,
- 24:27Speaker 1: you go, first, favorite athlete as a kid, favorite athlete
- 24:29Speaker 1: right now? Man, this is weird. As a Cowboys fan,
- 24:32Speaker 1: just to say out loud, So as a kid, Joe
- 24:34Speaker 1: Montana was my favorite. I mean he was just cool
- 24:37Speaker 1: like he was. We would win, but he was always
- 24:39Speaker 1: stress free and I love that about him. So when
- 24:41Speaker 1: he retired, it was tough. That's when I when I
- 24:43Speaker 1: went to the Cowboys and like became a Cowboys fan.
- 24:45Speaker 1: And now it's crazy to say this, but Jalen Hurts
- 24:49Speaker 1: is my current favorite athlete just because how he handles himself.
- 24:52Speaker 1: He's like and again Cowboys fan, like I don't. I'm
- 24:54Speaker 1: not an Eagles fan. I hate the Eagles. Like you've
- 24:56Speaker 1: picked the two teams you should hate the money, That's
- 24:58Speaker 1: what I'm saying. That why I said it's weird for
- 25:00Speaker 1: me to say, you guys, my favorite's a Longhorn. No,
- 25:04Speaker 1: and other favorite is the volunteer. But what do we
- 25:07Speaker 1: know about players They don't care about the teams they
- 25:08Speaker 1: play with. I mean, Hurts could go to the Cowboys
- 25:10Speaker 1: for all and he'll take it if that's the best.
- 25:13Speaker 1: It's weird that you have identified a player on a
- 25:16Speaker 1: team that you should hate. I agree that both of
- 25:19Speaker 1: them or that too, not even just well, but Joe's done,
- 25:21Speaker 1: Like Joe's done, that's that's old or whatever. But with Jalen,
- 25:23Speaker 1: it's just weird the way he like, you know, I like,
- 25:26Speaker 1: he's he's awesome. He's a great player. But at the
- 25:29Speaker 1: same time. He doesn't let his mouth speak for him.
- 25:32Speaker 1: His actions speak for him, and I love that about him.
- 25:34Speaker 1: I wish we had more athletes like that, where it's
- 25:36Speaker 1: like I don't have to say my way into this.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Just watch me play and that'll speak. That'll speak volumes.
- 25:40Speaker 1: I saw one of the receivers and Philly say, that's
- 25:46Speaker 1: what it was like, if he leaves, ship me out
- 25:47Speaker 1: with him, Okay, that's awesome. Yeah, he was like, if
- 25:51Speaker 1: he goes, just send me with him. That's like you
- 25:53Speaker 1: like that too with a quarterback where other players are
- 25:55Speaker 1: like I'll run though wall for him, Like, that's the
- 25:57Speaker 1: guy right there. That's pretty cool to see. So I
- 26:00Speaker 1: come on, big of me to take teams that. I'm like,
- 26:03Speaker 1: you can't compliment yourself how big you are. No one
- 26:06Speaker 1: acknowledged me, but okay, no, we acknowledged it was weird
- 26:08Speaker 1: that both of them were rivals. Are your favorite team
- 26:10Speaker 1: that you live and die with? That was a weirdness.
- 26:13Speaker 1: It's very weird to say it Coleman. For me, yeah,
- 26:16Speaker 1: for me as a kid, it's Russell Westbrook. I know
- 26:19Speaker 1: he takes a whole lot of criticism though, right right, absolutely,
- 26:23Speaker 1: But for me, like if I have a kid, I'm
- 26:25Speaker 1: going to tell him that's how you conduct yourself. Doesn't
- 26:27Speaker 1: matter if it's a preseason game against Sacmano King's an
- 26:29Speaker 1: NBA championship. He is going one hundred percent the entire game.
- 26:33Speaker 1: And he's never been a guy that bad mouths a teammate.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Teammates always seem to have great things to say about
- 26:38Speaker 1: him and let let the media run with their own stories. So,
- 26:41Speaker 1: Russell Westbrook as a kid, what do you But what
- 26:43Speaker 1: about now Russell Westbrook? Now I'm a little disappointed. I mean,
- 26:47Speaker 1: we had to see this drop off coming a guy
- 26:49Speaker 1: that relied so much on his athletic ability. Now when
- 26:52Speaker 1: NAT's gone, he doesn't quite have the fundamentals to be
- 26:55Speaker 1: able to succeed. And then for a guy that has
- 26:58Speaker 1: the mental approach that he does, you know, he's going
- 27:01Speaker 1: to continue to see himself as the guy or the dog.
- 27:04Speaker 1: And so the end of his career is not going
- 27:06Speaker 1: to look pretty. I mean we may not even be
- 27:08Speaker 1: at the ugliest part of it yet. But for what
- 27:11Speaker 1: he meant to Oklahoma City and how he conducted himself
- 27:13Speaker 1: favorite as a kid, for sure, my wife loved us too.
- 27:16Speaker 1: We have in Russ we trust sweaters and hoodies at
- 27:19Speaker 1: the house because she's a big thunderfan and she's all in.
- 27:24Speaker 1: She was all in and I can't badmouth Russ at
- 27:26Speaker 1: all in the house even now. She's like, we don't
- 27:27Speaker 1: talk about bad about us now, even now do it?
- 27:29Speaker 1: It's almost like rest in peace, but don't talk bad
- 27:31Speaker 1: about him? And what about now? Now, I'd have to
- 27:33Speaker 1: go with Justin Thomas. So as Russ has fallen off,
- 27:36Speaker 1: Baker easily could have been one, but didn't quite have
- 27:39Speaker 1: the success that I'd hope for Justin Thomas. I went
- 27:42Speaker 1: to the PGA Championship this past year that he won,
- 27:45Speaker 1: watching him live, that was sweet. But I feel like
- 27:47Speaker 1: he's done a great job kind of not to say
- 27:50Speaker 1: that he's this guy's level, but taking the torch from
- 27:52Speaker 1: Tiger as to be the young guy to lead this
- 27:55Speaker 1: generation of golfers. I guess and expand and grow the game,
- 27:59Speaker 1: and then he's just a ruthless competitor. I feel like
- 28:01Speaker 1: he's the real Captain America. Patrick Reid got that after
- 28:04Speaker 1: you know, a great one, great Perpatrick. It's hilarious, by
- 28:07Speaker 1: the way, Yeah, go ahead. But Justin Thomas I believe
- 28:10Speaker 1: is the true captain America. You know what's interesting, I
- 28:12Speaker 1: don't feel and it's you're like sixty years old picking
- 28:16Speaker 1: a golfer is your favorite? Yeah, yeah, which is wild.
- 28:19Speaker 1: So aside from that, if you had to pick somebody
- 28:24Speaker 1: that tiger quote unquote passes the torch to, who would
- 28:28Speaker 1: you say it was? Would you say what? Justin Thomas?
- 28:29Speaker 1: I don't think I will. I wouldn't. I don't think
- 28:32Speaker 1: I would. I think Rory. But he's not American. And
- 28:36Speaker 1: you did say captain American and you only love American people?
- 28:38Speaker 1: Who got it? John Rom's not American, although he looks
- 28:42Speaker 1: like he's American. Was gut hanging, you know, he's like
- 28:44Speaker 1: eats the processed foods like we do. Does that thing? No,
- 28:49Speaker 1: I'm not saying in terms of a talent perspective, but
- 28:53Speaker 1: in terms of being the face of the sport. What
- 28:55Speaker 1: about Justin Well yeah? Or what Jordan's Yeah? What about
- 28:57Speaker 1: Jordan Sho? I know Jordan a little bit right, Jordan's um.
- 29:00Speaker 1: I love Jordan's speed. I love the commentary that he
- 29:03Speaker 1: has that we can almost like get into his and
- 29:05Speaker 1: his daddy's Michaels. Yeah, yeah, we hear him talking throughout
- 29:09Speaker 1: every single shot. Oh, yeah, Ed, Michael's best friend. We
- 29:11Speaker 1: played around with it. What are you talking about? Thought?
- 29:13Speaker 1: I am Michael's best We walked with Jordan Michael, we
- 29:15Speaker 1: played around with them. Ed he would forget my clubs
- 29:19Speaker 1: walking with Michael and I'm like, bro, he's carrying Jordans.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Why do you I have mine? You're yeah? And He's like,
- 29:23Speaker 1: while I was talking to Michael, okay, we're trading. We're
- 29:27Speaker 1: trading dad stories. And Bobby's like, hey, sand Wedge, I'm like,
- 29:30Speaker 1: you got it the bags over there, Michael. Yeah. And
- 29:35Speaker 1: I don't know. Speth just hasn't been as consistent as JT.
- 29:37Speaker 1: JT has been a top ten player consistently now for
- 29:40Speaker 1: the last six years. Speith's had that fall off, but
- 29:43Speaker 1: no doubt he could be argued right up there with them.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Have y'all watched that show on Netflix? Swing It. I
- 29:49Speaker 1: can't sway for this journey then, because that's the first
- 29:51Speaker 1: thing I'm doing. Hey, the first the first episode features
- 29:54Speaker 1: Jordan and Justin so their and their relationship, which is
- 29:57Speaker 1: really cool. They did it. Yeah, well, I guess um,
- 30:01Speaker 1: I haven't want I want to. There's also the show
- 30:03Speaker 1: coming out that they just announced that Peyton Mannings Production
- 30:06Speaker 1: Company finished. That's like the Quarterbacks on Netflix, where all
- 30:10Speaker 1: those guys are Mike the whole season. We didn't know it.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins, Yeah, Mariota too. They were, Wow, that's gonna
- 30:15Speaker 1: be good. They were. And that's good too, because you
- 30:17Speaker 1: got Mahomes who want it, Cousins who played better than
- 30:21Speaker 1: normal and they choked it, and then Mariota who kind
- 30:24Speaker 1: of flashed early but didn't have a great season overall. Right,
- 30:29Speaker 1: wouldn't you say, like, he's not gonna have a job
- 30:31Speaker 1: next year guaranteed. So we're watching We're not watching three
- 30:33Speaker 1: quarterbacks win the whole thing or get deep in the playoffs.
- 30:36Speaker 1: It's like three different journeys of three different players. So
- 30:40Speaker 1: that's cool too. My favorite athlete as a kid was
- 30:43Speaker 1: Mark Grace, first based for the Cubs. I played first base.
- 30:46Speaker 1: I was left handed, he was number seventeen. Wasn't a
- 30:48Speaker 1: power hitter, neither was I. He would get on bass
- 30:50Speaker 1: a lot. I was like, that's my guy. Everything about him,
- 30:52Speaker 1: Mark Grace, Mark Grace I was. And why I brought
- 30:54Speaker 1: this up is I think my favorite athlete as an
- 30:56Speaker 1: adult is Pat bev Woow because for a couple of reasons.
- 31:01Speaker 1: He just doesn't stop when you talking about he's a
- 31:04Speaker 1: guy that you want on your team, but if he's
- 31:06Speaker 1: not a team, you hate his guts. Yeah, exactly. And
- 31:10Speaker 1: that's the dude that I feel like he would have
- 31:13Speaker 1: everybody's back if he's in the locker room with you,
- 31:16Speaker 1: even if he may not get along with you right
- 31:17Speaker 1: then if something happens out on the court, like he's
- 31:20Speaker 1: got you. Like I would hear him defending Westbrook even
- 31:22Speaker 1: with the Lakers. He was like, that's my dude. Somebody's
- 31:25Speaker 1: gonna get into with him. We're gonna go right there.
- 31:28Speaker 1: But like Pat Bev always goes hard and he's playing
- 31:31Speaker 1: with the Bulls now, which will be interesting to see.
- 31:33Speaker 1: He's gone back home, that's where he's from, Chicago. I
- 31:36Speaker 1: just admire tenacity. And also he did play at Arkansas.
- 31:39Speaker 1: I don't know if that affects anything problem being a
- 31:43Speaker 1: Russell Westbrook guy. I didn't like the knee injury that
- 31:45Speaker 1: you're a guy caused. I think I don't own I'm
- 31:51Speaker 1: a fantasy player that I've drafted or anything. So shut up, Emily,
- 31:56Speaker 1: what about you? Were you an athlete? Not at all?
- 31:58Speaker 1: I have a favorite like athlete adjacent. I have a
- 32:02Speaker 1: weird obsession with Jim Nance, Like his voice is like
- 32:05Speaker 1: my favorite. I met him really, yeah, he's so nice.
- 32:09Speaker 1: I love him. He called we were playing at Pebble
- 32:12Speaker 1: Beach and they did a thing on TV and they
- 32:14Speaker 1: they're like, okay, up next, Bobby Bones, and I get
- 32:16Speaker 1: up and I was. I was in the group of Aaron.
- 32:18Speaker 1: I'd be Daron Rodgers. Yeah you did. You can always
- 32:20Speaker 1: say that I did in the But Jim Nance called
- 32:21Speaker 1: the shots and he's like, I'm next, uh, host of
- 32:24Speaker 1: Snake in the grass and all right there it is,
- 32:26Speaker 1: oh yeah, And it's crazy to say, like obviously he
- 32:32Speaker 1: talks like that in normal life, but he really does.
- 32:35Speaker 1: When he's just talking to he's like, oh, are you
- 32:37Speaker 1: having fun? You beat the chicken today? It's pretty good.
- 32:41Speaker 1: It looks like Eddie's walking over toward me right now.
- 32:45Speaker 1: So was that yours now? Or as a kid? Just
- 32:48Speaker 1: like always always, I don't really have one now. I
- 32:51Speaker 1: guess I just keep up with the thunder okay, And
- 32:52Speaker 1: who's every thunder player? Shay or uh, what's the other guy?
- 32:57Speaker 1: Jay Williams, the one that looks like Timothy Element. Yeah,
- 33:02Speaker 1: that's funny. He's like a tall Timothy Shall. Yeah, they
- 33:05Speaker 1: call him Himothy Him. That's good. He's cute. That's I
- 33:12Speaker 1: think we found out why guys like thirteen numbers long.
- 33:22Speaker 1: It's like an Australian area code. Okay, so we're gonna
- 33:25Speaker 1: go to Joelnardi here. Who Joelnardi's I mean, he's that
- 33:28Speaker 1: guy for sure. Joelnardi is the guy who created bracketology,
- 33:33Speaker 1: who has nailed it. I just if we'd have had
- 33:36Speaker 1: more time, I would have been like, seriously, somebody's like
- 33:38Speaker 1: tipping you off on stuff occasionally too right, because he's
- 33:41Speaker 1: got to have so many resources, not illegally, but somebody's
- 33:43Speaker 1: gotta be calling and being like, I feel like in
- 33:46Speaker 1: the room, this is happening. And now people like you know, uh,
- 33:52Speaker 1: Coleman exist, and Coleman's trying this whole new thing. But
- 33:55Speaker 1: if Leonardi's not there creating this industry, people like Coleman
- 34:00Speaker 1: probably aren't driving all over the country in mid majors
- 34:03Speaker 1: going I'm gonna find my niche inside of this niche.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Would you agree with that at that fair? No? Absolutely.
- 34:07Speaker 1: When I originally started the Twitter that I have now,
- 34:09Speaker 1: it was a bracketology twitter. Joe was posting like once
- 34:12Speaker 1: every four days or something like that. That wasn't enough
- 34:15Speaker 1: for me. So I was like, Okay, I'm gonna try
- 34:16Speaker 1: and be a bracketologist myself. So Joe definitely inspired the
- 34:20Speaker 1: journey for sure. It's like guys for me that would
- 34:23Speaker 1: be like a Howard Stern Rush Limball. Although I'm not
- 34:29Speaker 1: like them. They did things on television and radio, and
- 34:32Speaker 1: so had they not kicked indoors, I wouldn't have been
- 34:35Speaker 1: able to go, oh, I want to do that too.
- 34:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna do a little different, but like respect right, Yeah,
- 34:40Speaker 1: that's cool. That's it. So Joelnardi ESPN bracketologist. We're talking
- 34:45Speaker 1: to him now. Hi Joe, Hi Bobby, good to talk
- 34:48Speaker 1: to you. Is it weird being famous now? Because I
- 34:49Speaker 1: mean your name is as famous as anybody in sports media.
- 34:52Speaker 1: I just this is such a you know, you you've
- 34:55Speaker 1: cornered this market. Is it weird to be Joelnardi parentheses
- 34:58Speaker 1: famous guy? Only four these two or three weeks a year?
- 35:03Speaker 1: You know you say that, But I feel like I'm Joe.
- 35:05Speaker 1: I feel like I'm living kind of in an out
- 35:07Speaker 1: of body experience for about a month. I watch your
- 35:11Speaker 1: brackets also, like the first week of the season and
- 35:14Speaker 1: like November, right, and I'm a big Arkansas guy, but
- 35:17Speaker 1: we're playing like practice games and it's like, here's Lenardi's bracket,
- 35:20Speaker 1: and I'm like, Joe's working like full time. Now, this
- 35:22Speaker 1: is not even like getting close to the tournament. He's
- 35:24Speaker 1: going hard all the time. So I would do people
- 35:27Speaker 1: recognize you at the airport now, I'm like, there's Joelnardi. Yeah,
- 35:29Speaker 1: I can tell people are staring a little bit from
- 35:32Speaker 1: time to time, but it's more seasonal than anything else.
- 35:38Speaker 1: You know, I keep a pretty low profile in the offseason.
- 35:42Speaker 1: I wouldn't be cool if I saw you. I would geek.
- 35:43Speaker 1: I literally would be nervous to talk to you because
- 35:45Speaker 1: to me, you know, we're in a fractured fame world
- 35:48Speaker 1: where everybody's you know, just because you're famous to somebody
- 35:50Speaker 1: doesn't mean you're famous to somebody else. But I would
- 35:52Speaker 1: see you in an airport and go like, I can
- 35:53Speaker 1: never go up and talk to Joelnardi because I'm a
- 35:55Speaker 1: massive fan of what he does, so I'm just gonna
- 35:57Speaker 1: let him be. I would be intimidated by you because
- 36:00Speaker 1: of how much I respect your work. Is that weird
- 36:02Speaker 1: to hear that? That would happen. Only the part about
- 36:07Speaker 1: not coming up to say hi, Like I have no
- 36:10Speaker 1: issue with that. Like if somebody kind of gives me
- 36:14Speaker 1: a look sometimes, especially if it's like a high school
- 36:18Speaker 1: kid or youngster, like I'll almost just put my hand
- 36:22Speaker 1: out and shake their hand and say, hey, I'm Joe.
- 36:26Speaker 1: And if they're obviously a college basketball person, I'll say, like,
- 36:29Speaker 1: who's your squad? And that's an easy way to start
- 36:32Speaker 1: a conversation. Yeah, please do that to me if you
- 36:34Speaker 1: ever see me, because I'll be too intimidated because I
- 36:36Speaker 1: want to bother the big famous Joelnardi. But if you
- 36:38Speaker 1: see me, say hey, I'm Joe, who's your squad? And
- 36:40Speaker 1: then we'll be well right off and run and Joe,
- 36:42Speaker 1: me and you buddies for life. There you go. Okay, Joe,
- 36:45Speaker 1: where did it start for you back in the day,
- 36:48Speaker 1: like when you first started to go I want to
- 36:49Speaker 1: do this job. Were you a writer at a small
- 36:52Speaker 1: newspaper something like that. I did do a lot of
- 36:55Speaker 1: sports writing in and around Philadelphia. It's kind of a
- 37:00Speaker 1: college basketball city because there's six Division One schools, and
- 37:04Speaker 1: generally in any given season, there's a couple three of
- 37:08Speaker 1: them that are in the national picture, so you know,
- 37:11Speaker 1: the tournament is pretty much an annual event. And you know,
- 37:18Speaker 1: I can't say that during those years of being a sportswriter,
- 37:21Speaker 1: I ever said to myself, Man, I want to work
- 37:24Speaker 1: at ESPN someday and I want to be a bracketologist,
- 37:28Speaker 1: because frankly, when I started, there was no ESPN, and
- 37:33Speaker 1: there definitely wasn't bracketology much less the Internet as a
- 37:37Speaker 1: way to kind of convey all this and generate a
- 37:40Speaker 1: following and you know, maybe kind of create something from nothing, Bobby, Like,
- 37:49Speaker 1: I'd like to say there was this grand business plan,
- 37:54Speaker 1: but there wasn't, and it just evolved into something that
- 38:00Speaker 1: fueled by the passion frankly of people like you, Like,
- 38:03Speaker 1: do a lot of people know that you're a college
- 38:05Speaker 1: basketball junkie. I've found that they're out there and you know,
- 38:09Speaker 1: the people from all walks of life, because it's it's
- 38:13Speaker 1: kind of a unique sport in that way, right, Like,
- 38:17Speaker 1: you know, pro sports are kind of dominated by the
- 38:20Speaker 1: big cities, but everybody has a team because everybody went
- 38:24Speaker 1: to school somewhere. Yeah, you know, it could be the
- 38:28Speaker 1: biggest city in America, you know, UCLA, or it could
- 38:31Speaker 1: be a small college stam making a run and being
- 38:36Speaker 1: a Cinderella. And I think in a way that's why
- 38:39Speaker 1: that the NCAA Tournament is unique in that it's so
- 38:43Speaker 1: inclusive geographically and all kinds of people. No, I do
- 38:49Speaker 1: want to get down to brass tacks in a second,
- 38:51Speaker 1: but I'm just interested in your story so much. And
- 38:53Speaker 1: have friends who are in the creative space, and you
- 38:55Speaker 1: know they had to work, well we'll call it a
- 38:57Speaker 1: real job, until they got to the point where quit
- 39:00Speaker 1: their a real job to do their passion. So you
- 39:03Speaker 1: spent thirty years a close to thirty years at Saint Joe's.
- 39:05Speaker 1: You had a real job communications in marketing. A real
- 39:07Speaker 1: job is untlike you go, you show up, you do
- 39:11Speaker 1: the work, and then you go home. But at what
- 39:13Speaker 1: point did you go, Man, this crazy idea, I can
- 39:16Speaker 1: actually make my full living. I'm gonna quit my real
- 39:19Speaker 1: job and do the dream job. Because that's a huge step.
- 39:22Speaker 1: When did you do that and were you nervous about
- 39:24Speaker 1: doing it or did you feel set? I didn't really
- 39:27Speaker 1: ever quit my real job. I just, in a way
- 39:32Speaker 1: maybe maybe just kind of rose out of it over
- 39:36Speaker 1: time when our youngest finished college and it became a
- 39:45Speaker 1: point where I didn't have to be a nine to
- 39:48Speaker 1: five administrator or a VP and higher ed anymore. And yeah,
- 39:54Speaker 1: I had always slept to myself, what would happen or
- 39:57Speaker 1: what could happen with basketball if I didn't have a
- 40:02Speaker 1: day job. But I loved my day job, and you know,
- 40:05Speaker 1: it was it was my school. I met my wife there,
- 40:08Speaker 1: one of our children went to Saint Joe's and and
- 40:12Speaker 1: you know, you just kind of wake up one morning
- 40:14Speaker 1: and go, man, I economically I wasn't sure I hadn't
- 40:18Speaker 1: do that anymore. So it was it was a little
- 40:22Speaker 1: bit of a risk. But in retrospect, maybe I should
- 40:28Speaker 1: have made the jump sooner because I'm having a ball. Man. Yeah,
- 40:32Speaker 1: I mean it's everything that I've worked for, right, It's
- 40:34Speaker 1: you know, we worked so hard to have a shot
- 40:36Speaker 1: at our dream, and then once we get it, it's like, man,
- 40:38Speaker 1: like it can actually be done. I never thought it
- 40:41Speaker 1: could be done until I was able to like grind
- 40:43Speaker 1: myself into it. And like, I hope to be somebody
- 40:46Speaker 1: that people can look at and go, if he can
- 40:47Speaker 1: do it, then I can do it. But like, you
- 40:49Speaker 1: created this whole new space and like I really like
- 40:52Speaker 1: admire that and the fact that this wasn't happening until
- 40:55Speaker 1: freaking Joel Nardi did it, and he was doing it
- 40:58Speaker 1: a long time before it really popped. When did it
- 41:00Speaker 1: pop for you? Where I went to the next level
- 41:02Speaker 1: where you're like, holy crapple, what I'm doing is so
- 41:05Speaker 1: loved by people, and I didn't expect it to be
- 41:07Speaker 1: this big. There were a couple of inflection points, certainly
- 41:12Speaker 1: when Bracketology got its own space and page and real
- 41:17Speaker 1: estate on ESPN dot com. I have been doing it
- 41:21Speaker 1: for a few years, you know, before frankly, sports websites
- 41:26Speaker 1: had evolved very much. They were pretty much HTML and ugly.
- 41:34Speaker 1: And then in twenty o two, somebody got the idea
- 41:41Speaker 1: to give it its own kind of space and platform
- 41:46Speaker 1: within college basketball the ESPN, and it launched on a
- 41:50Speaker 1: Monday night in January. I'll never forget because because I
- 41:55Speaker 1: went from Philly up to Bristol, you know, to be
- 41:58Speaker 1: there and help out, and I mean the traffic in
- 42:03Speaker 1: the first hour or two, the editors and we just
- 42:07Speaker 1: kind of looked at each other and went, oh, we
- 42:10Speaker 1: found something. And you know, I'm not very good at
- 42:14Speaker 1: the business of business, or I suppose I would have
- 42:19Speaker 1: asked right the end to you know, get paid by
- 42:22Speaker 1: the hit or something like that. But clearly there was
- 42:26Speaker 1: Clearly there was an audience, and it coincided with the
- 42:32Speaker 1: time when frankly, the people who actually picked the tournament
- 42:36Speaker 1: and CIA Men's Basketball committee was not very open about
- 42:41Speaker 1: what they did or how they did it. So there
- 42:44Speaker 1: was if you're a fan of I don't know, Arkansas
- 42:48Speaker 1: or Boise State or Minnesota or Connecticut, you know, you're
- 42:54Speaker 1: you're going with what you get out of the local
- 42:56Speaker 1: paper or maybe a paragraph every once in a while
- 42:58Speaker 1: in USA today, like back when we had newspapers and
- 43:02Speaker 1: they'd be outside your hotel room during the morning, and
- 43:07Speaker 1: here was here. I was kind of letting people into
- 43:11Speaker 1: something that they were incredibly interested in, but no one
- 43:16Speaker 1: would have had a way of knowing that. So so
- 43:20Speaker 1: the combination of digital media and the Internet, and to
- 43:25Speaker 1: ESPN's credit, you know, look, I'm five five and slow
- 43:30Speaker 1: on a good day, and like I can't touch the rim.
- 43:40Speaker 1: I can barely coach a cyo team. And you know,
- 43:46Speaker 1: the typical model of sports experts on television is former coach,
- 43:51Speaker 1: former player, right, big name, you know, somebody with a
- 43:57Speaker 1: built in following, and you know, here. I am just
- 44:01Speaker 1: the kind of a nobody higher ed person from Philadelphia
- 44:05Speaker 1: who happens to like college basketball lot. And to ESPN's credit,
- 44:10Speaker 1: they were about the content, not about you know, how
- 44:17Speaker 1: I looked or how I sounded, or the fact that
- 44:19Speaker 1: my resume wouldn't have gotten me interviewed for an assistant
- 44:24Speaker 1: coaching position at a middle school. Uh. And then you know,
- 44:31Speaker 1: being reasonably accurate certainly helped over time, but I never
- 44:38Speaker 1: took it very seriously, probably for another ten or fifteen
- 44:44Speaker 1: years after that, because it was more of a hobby
- 44:47Speaker 1: than it was an advocation. Yeah, I just love a vocation.
- 44:51Speaker 1: I should say one final question about just your story
- 44:54Speaker 1: and we will get to basketball. And I'm so much
- 44:55Speaker 1: that enjoy the person because this is it like he
- 44:58Speaker 1: he's like he's a revolution. I mean he is. He'd
- 45:00Speaker 1: started something and I know it sounds dramatic, but it's
- 45:03Speaker 1: the truth. And how you know, how I've done things
- 45:06Speaker 1: I've been in I wouldn't say trouble, but it was
- 45:08Speaker 1: difficult for me because I'm in the spaces that I've
- 45:10Speaker 1: been in, I've been very different, which people did not like.
- 45:13Speaker 1: The old guard did not like. Did you get any
- 45:15Speaker 1: pushback when you were revealing things from people who were
- 45:18Speaker 1: working inside of maybe schools or the NCAA, like, hey,
- 45:22Speaker 1: you shouldn't share that, Joe. I think it probably took
- 45:26Speaker 1: a little while to gain some credibility in the NCAA
- 45:31Speaker 1: and athletic administrative world because most people that come into
- 45:38Speaker 1: something like this have a bias towards their school, toward
- 45:44Speaker 1: their region, toward their point of view, whatever it might be.
- 45:48Speaker 1: And I was only interested in learning and getting it right. Yeah.
- 45:53Speaker 1: I have favorite schools and favorite coaches and favorite players,
- 45:58Speaker 1: just like anybody else. But you know, at the end
- 46:01Speaker 1: of the day, I get judged on how well I
- 46:07Speaker 1: can predict what those ten and now twelve people in
- 46:11Speaker 1: the committee are going to do. It doesn't really matter
- 46:15Speaker 1: if I think Alabama is better than Houston or better
- 46:19Speaker 1: than Kansas or better than Perdue. It matters what they
- 46:22Speaker 1: think and how much and how well do I understand
- 46:27Speaker 1: their process to replicate it. You know, coaches and administrators
- 46:32Speaker 1: call me all the time asking for insight, and I
- 46:34Speaker 1: have to remind it. I don't have a vote. I'm
- 46:38Speaker 1: never going to never going to have a vote. I'm
- 46:42Speaker 1: like an election pundit. I look at the polls. I
- 46:46Speaker 1: look at the numbers I observe and forecast, but you know,
- 46:55Speaker 1: and I'm unfortunate to have been the first to do it,
- 46:58Speaker 1: so I have the largest platform, I suppose, but many, many,
- 47:02Speaker 1: many other people are doing it now and doing it
- 47:06Speaker 1: quite well and maybe understand the math better than I
- 47:11Speaker 1: ever will. But my communications background, I think allows me
- 47:17Speaker 1: to convey it in a way that hopefully makes it watchable.
- 47:21Speaker 1: Yeah and readable. Five minutes for basketball questions, I would
- 47:25Speaker 1: just do a whole talk about Joe's life, honestly, but
- 47:27Speaker 1: being good our listeners, I want to know, Well, you're
- 47:29Speaker 1: the one, You're the one who's interested in it, so
- 47:31Speaker 1: I appreciate you. Well, we could do an hour about
- 47:34Speaker 1: you Joe. Basketball wise, I watched the Alabama South Carolina
- 47:37Speaker 1: game last night and I watched Brandon Miller just go
- 47:40Speaker 1: off scoring forty points. I want to overtime, and I'm
- 47:43Speaker 1: amazed to watch this kid. It's freshman, but he's also
- 47:44Speaker 1: in all this trouble, not trouble. All of this stuff
- 47:47Speaker 1: is coming out about the gun, so not asking about
- 47:49Speaker 1: that situation. But if he is not on the team
- 47:54Speaker 1: and Alabama is a clear number one right now, does
- 47:58Speaker 1: that affect us. I think I do too. Does that
- 48:00Speaker 1: affect us the seeding without him? Even let's say they
- 48:03Speaker 1: don't lose a game, but he gets is not able
- 48:04Speaker 1: to play in the tournament, would they drop him the tide? Probably?
- 48:10Speaker 1: And I'd say probably because we don't know when he
- 48:14Speaker 1: would go out, and would there be an opportunity for
- 48:19Speaker 1: the committee to observe them without him. This actually happened
- 48:25Speaker 1: once in I want to say it was two thousand
- 48:31Speaker 1: and nineteen nine, two thousand season. The number one team
- 48:35Speaker 1: in the country was Cincinnati. The player of the year
- 48:38Speaker 1: was Kenyan Martin, and in their first conference tournament game
- 48:44Speaker 1: as the presumptive number one team and top seed, he
- 48:48Speaker 1: broke his leg and he was out. I mean, obviously
- 48:51Speaker 1: you're not coming back and playing a week later, right,
- 48:55Speaker 1: And you know, what do you do at that point?
- 48:59Speaker 1: You're guessing at what that team is going to be like.
- 49:03Speaker 1: They ended up getting a two seed, Cincinnati, and they
- 49:07Speaker 1: lost in the second round. I think to whoever the
- 49:12Speaker 1: seven was, something in me wants to say Tulsa, but
- 49:16Speaker 1: I'm not one hundred percent sure of that. And you know,
- 49:20Speaker 1: that was kind of an experiment in how to observe
- 49:26Speaker 1: what the committee would do like that was on They
- 49:28Speaker 1: had no way of logically approaching that. But they couldn't
- 49:35Speaker 1: make them number one overall just on common sense, because
- 49:39Speaker 1: then they're giving a disadvantage to some other teams who
- 49:42Speaker 1: who might have been legitimately better at that point. I
- 49:46Speaker 1: think in Alabama's case, well, first of all, I don't
- 49:49Speaker 1: think he's going to miss any games. The university I'm
- 49:53Speaker 1: putting my higher ed had on universities made it very
- 49:57Speaker 1: clear what their position is, and I think, barring a
- 50:01Speaker 1: significant change in evidence, it's not going to change, and
- 50:07Speaker 1: we could have another whole show on whether that's right
- 50:09Speaker 1: or wrong. I'm just saying Brandon Miller playing in the
- 50:13Speaker 1: tournament and this situation being talked about for another month
- 50:17Speaker 1: is pretty much a guarantee. North Carolina Kentucky because we
- 50:21Speaker 1: have like three minutes left before I know, you gotta go,
- 50:23Speaker 1: but North Carolina Kentucky. North Carolina needs to probably make
- 50:25Speaker 1: a run it. I've never seen aything like it. What's
- 50:27Speaker 1: happened to them this season versus last season in the expectation.
- 50:30Speaker 1: And then also Kentucky, who just and they're playing a
- 50:33Speaker 1: little better now. But both of those teams what do
- 50:35Speaker 1: they need to do to get in. I think Kentucky's
- 50:38Speaker 1: reasonably safe at this point. You know, they swept Tennessee.
- 50:44Speaker 1: I'm not a big eye test guy. I'm more of
- 50:47Speaker 1: a data of results guy. But it's it's it's pretty
- 50:52Speaker 1: clear that they figured out a better way to play
- 50:55Speaker 1: and it involves, you know, keeping the ball in the
- 50:58Speaker 1: hands more often of their better players, which seems kind
- 51:02Speaker 1: of a basic and intuitive. But but they they're probably
- 51:07Speaker 1: going to keep rising a little bit. They're not going
- 51:09Speaker 1: to meet the preseason expectations in terms of seating, but
- 51:13Speaker 1: they're gonna be wearing white in their first game. I'm
- 51:16Speaker 1: pretty convinced of that. As for North Carolina, without being
- 51:23Speaker 1: there every day, like clearly they're a mess in something
- 51:27Speaker 1: that's not basketball related, and we may never know what
- 51:31Speaker 1: that is. I mean, this is a team, Bobby, you know,
- 51:34Speaker 1: like they have four starters back in an age where
- 51:37Speaker 1: that doesn't happen much, and those players had a sixteen
- 51:44Speaker 1: point halftime lead in the National championship game, and like, yeah,
- 51:50Speaker 1: Brady Mannock was a really good player and he's not there.
- 51:53Speaker 1: But they can't make a shot, and they made enough
- 51:59Speaker 1: shots to be in the National championship game, So like,
- 52:03Speaker 1: something is not right, and I don't think they're gonna
- 52:06Speaker 1: make it because I just don't think they're good enough
- 52:11Speaker 1: and their body language tells me that they're not. They
- 52:14Speaker 1: don't really care enough about being in it, right. They
- 52:18Speaker 1: won list night, but yeah the Notre Dame game, but yeah,
- 52:20Speaker 1: it weren't good. It was sloppy, and yeah it did
- 52:23Speaker 1: not and they beat a bad Notre Dame team too.
- 52:26Speaker 1: It was not good at all. And I watched, going,
- 52:28Speaker 1: maybe they're gonna play so much better, maybe they know now,
- 52:30Speaker 1: and it just was like a group of guys that
- 52:33Speaker 1: they were just a little better, and they won their
- 52:34Speaker 1: game and it was over. Like Kentucky found a gear, Yeah,
- 52:38Speaker 1: because they were. They were on the apps a couple
- 52:40Speaker 1: of weeks ago. Caroline, Maybe they do find the gear.
- 52:43Speaker 1: I'm just not seeing it all right, one minute left here,
- 52:46Speaker 1: and this is not a biased question, n except it's
- 52:48Speaker 1: extremely biased. Arkansas has Nick Smith finally back Listen, we
- 52:51Speaker 1: lost two starters. Nick Smith is finally back lottery pick.
- 52:55Speaker 1: He's playing scored twenty five lott More twenty five against Georgia.
- 52:58Speaker 1: Well that affect the seating at all If Arkansas does
- 53:01Speaker 1: get in, which I hope and think they will. But
- 53:03Speaker 1: now that they're their best player is back, well they
- 53:05Speaker 1: give them a lift with the committee or are they
- 53:07Speaker 1: just like you are who you are. I think it's
- 53:09Speaker 1: gonna be more the ladder. I could see maybe a
- 53:12Speaker 1: seed line improvement from seeding. But but I'll give you
- 53:16Speaker 1: the flip of that, Bobby, which is they're going to
- 53:19Speaker 1: get a seed that they're probably better than and able
- 53:24Speaker 1: to outperform. So it's not so much in an Arkansas
- 53:28Speaker 1: situation as it is like who do they play and
- 53:34Speaker 1: those opponents are going to be getting probably a much
- 53:38Speaker 1: tougher draw because you know, Arkansas has like two seed
- 53:43Speaker 1: three seed talent. I think when they really have it
- 53:47Speaker 1: together and they've proven their ability to win in March,
- 53:50Speaker 1: I think they're very dangerous. All right, we have to
- 53:52Speaker 1: let Joe go. Here's the thing, Joe, I'm gonna I'm
- 53:54Speaker 1: feeling it for rich Eisin next week on Riches's show,
- 53:56Speaker 1: and hopefully I can get you on over there and
- 53:58Speaker 1: we'll go straight basketball. I'm just such a big fan.
- 54:00Speaker 1: And you guys followed Joe espn Lenardi, Uh, donate to us,
- 54:04Speaker 1: go fund me. I don't even know if he has one.
- 54:06Speaker 1: But if he does, pay send him some money. You know,
- 54:08Speaker 1: I don't. But if you want to do coaches versus cancer,
- 54:11Speaker 1: that would be my boom. That's cool. Here we go,
- 54:13Speaker 1: all right, Joe Lenard, Joe, we got a clap for
- 54:15Speaker 1: you because you're the guy I would appreciate you and
- 54:17Speaker 1: we will hopefully see it soon. Joe, see your buddy.
- 54:19Speaker 1: All right. That was Joe Lenardi. It's awesome. I wish
- 54:22Speaker 1: we'd had more time, but you know, I'm grateful for
- 54:25Speaker 1: the like doctors who said, don't be sad because it's over,
- 54:28Speaker 1: be happy because it happened, or some crap like that.
- 54:31Speaker 1: Not verb. Do you know, Emily what he said said,
- 54:34Speaker 1: I don't know what he's smile because it happened. Call him.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Did not ask you and ask your wife? This is
- 54:40Speaker 1: what happens at the house. I wouldn't want him home either, Yeah,
- 54:43Speaker 1: I don't listen. Well, yeah, I would be like you
- 54:44Speaker 1: need to go to Winchester you for a couple of
- 54:46Speaker 1: days and watching their third stream. I get it. I
- 54:49Speaker 1: didn't get it, Emily, but now I get it. Yeah. Um,
- 54:52Speaker 1: so thanks to Joe for coming on. That's pretty cool.
- 54:54Speaker 1: That's pretty cool. I want to talk about this rich
- 54:57Speaker 1: Eysen thing in a seconds. I'll be feeling it for
- 54:58Speaker 1: rich Eyesend next week, which I'm super excited about, and
- 55:01Speaker 1: I'll get to that on my final thought here. But
- 55:03Speaker 1: I'll be doing a series on TikTok called old people
- 55:06Speaker 1: in sports who didn't know We're really cool. Oh that's
- 55:09Speaker 1: cool because there are so many awesome We talked about
- 55:12Speaker 1: Larry Bird earlier. Right, if we don't see a bunch
- 55:14Speaker 1: of old clips in him dominating, we have no idea
- 55:16Speaker 1: really how good he was, or TV shows or we
- 55:20Speaker 1: depend on that. We depend on content to remind us
- 55:23Speaker 1: at how good some of these old folks were. So
- 55:25Speaker 1: I have all these people that I'm gonna do on
- 55:26Speaker 1: my TikTok, which is mister Bobby Bones. But I'm gonna
- 55:30Speaker 1: start with Pistol Pete, which just listen to the few notes,
- 55:34Speaker 1: and if you've seen the Pistoeet movie back in the day,
- 55:36Speaker 1: or if you've seen clips, I don't think people can
- 55:38Speaker 1: fully appreciate how good Pete Mirovich was for a bunch
- 55:42Speaker 1: of reasons. But I mean, he was showtime before the Lakers.
- 55:45Speaker 1: He was doing no look passes, the ball handling, that
- 55:49Speaker 1: would be advanced today he was doing then. But think
- 55:52Speaker 1: about how advanced it was then. He was a great
- 55:56Speaker 1: shooter if they would have had the three point line.
- 55:58Speaker 1: They didn't have the three point line. His popping on
- 56:00Speaker 1: from three when there was no three. He averaged forty
- 56:03Speaker 1: four points a game at LSU was no three point line.
- 56:06Speaker 1: Forty four points a game without a thing. I mean,
- 56:10Speaker 1: you're talking about fifty five a game probably if there's
- 56:14Speaker 1: a three point line. Can't even fathom that. It's so wild.
- 56:19Speaker 1: His number has been retired, And here's the thing. People
- 56:21Speaker 1: go like, well, he was a failure in the NBA.
- 56:23Speaker 1: His number has been retired by three different NBA teams,
- 56:25Speaker 1: the Hawks, the Jazz, and the Pelicans. The NBA did
- 56:28Speaker 1: not even put in three point line until his final
- 56:31Speaker 1: season in the NBA, and so he averaged I think
- 56:35Speaker 1: twenty or so in the NBA before his knees gave out.
- 56:38Speaker 1: But with no three point line, he was just so
- 56:40Speaker 1: ahead of his time. So what I'll be doing in
- 56:43Speaker 1: the series and showing videos and the pistol Pete thing,
- 56:46Speaker 1: I just get angry even in myself for not given
- 56:49Speaker 1: the respect he deserves. Yeah, I'm like, I'm so stupid.
- 56:51Speaker 1: Why do I not love Pete more? It's because I didn't.
- 56:53Speaker 1: I haven't been educated properly. So I'm doing a series
- 56:56Speaker 1: soon called Old People. I don't really have the name
- 56:59Speaker 1: yet work out that's something about I don't know if
- 57:02Speaker 1: this will be in your series. But this was a
- 57:04Speaker 1: little tidbit I got. So people on Twitter, um, some
- 57:07Speaker 1: have been joining me for games. So I got joined
- 57:09Speaker 1: by this North Carolina kid that he's a diehard NC
- 57:12Speaker 1: State people are just like, you're like fish or yeah,
- 57:14Speaker 1: They'll they'll just DM me be like, hey, I'm going
- 57:16Speaker 1: to that game. Fans. It's like grateful dead something like that. Yeah,
- 57:23Speaker 1: he tells you that Pete was supposed to go to
- 57:26Speaker 1: NC State, didn't make the act score high enough, and
- 57:28Speaker 1: then he went to LSU. Could have been an NC
- 57:31Speaker 1: State player, but then your TikTok, that won't make it
- 57:33Speaker 1: a failure. Awesome, So that'll be coming up. I do
- 57:38Speaker 1: want to go over to this interview with coach Dana
- 57:40Speaker 1: four from Missouri State. What was he like as a
- 57:42Speaker 1: guy man? He was awesome to meet with, just a
- 57:45Speaker 1: very respectable dude. Has an incredible foundation called the Rebound Foundation.
- 57:49Speaker 1: He and his wife started where um, they take homes
- 57:54Speaker 1: that had domestic violence. The female they helped support for
- 57:57Speaker 1: the next six months to a year try to find
- 57:59Speaker 1: a job, find living things that awesome. So he seemed
- 58:03Speaker 1: like an incredible dude in my time with him. So
- 58:05Speaker 1: here he is. This is Coleman with coach Dana Ford
- 58:07Speaker 1: doing a big at Missouri State. Here with coach Dana
- 58:10Speaker 1: Ford had basketball coach of Missouri State, Coach Ford. I
- 58:14Speaker 1: just wanted to ask you, growing up great high school
- 58:17Speaker 1: basketball player, played college basketball at Illinois State. What pushed
- 58:21Speaker 1: you to pursue basketball and then coaching after your playing career. Well,
- 58:24Speaker 1: I grew up in a small town in southern Illinois
- 58:26Speaker 1: and basketball was king and that's really the only thing
- 58:31Speaker 1: that we had to do, and fell in love with
- 58:34Speaker 1: the game at a young age. Was fortunate enough to
- 58:36Speaker 1: play in college. And after college, you had a decision
- 58:40Speaker 1: to make. And I've been impacted by coaches my entire life.
- 58:43Speaker 1: My high school coach Chuck Nody, my college coach is
- 58:47Speaker 1: Tom Richardson, Porter Moser, and so fortunately I chose that
- 58:51Speaker 1: path and it's been a great experience. I'm o you, alum,
- 58:55Speaker 1: So I gotta here. Coach Moser speak before the season
- 58:58Speaker 1: this year. His inner g is just contagious from What
- 59:02Speaker 1: is something that you learned from coach Moja and your
- 59:04Speaker 1: playing career that you implement with your current teams today. Well,
- 59:07Speaker 1: I learned a lot from him, and he's very He's
- 59:09Speaker 1: got a tremendous basketball mine. Just the importance of body language,
- 59:15Speaker 1: you know, the importance of habits, you know, the importance
- 59:19Speaker 1: of commitment, attending to detail. There are so many things
- 59:24Speaker 1: that we try to implement in our program right now
- 59:27Speaker 1: on a daily basis as well. What was it like
- 59:29Speaker 1: before you're even thirty years old getting offered a head
- 59:32Speaker 1: Division one coaching job, being the youngest coach in college basketball?
- 59:37Speaker 1: You know, it was a very humbling experience. It was
- 59:39Speaker 1: unique twenty eight years old head coach, something that you
- 59:42Speaker 1: dream about, not necessarily doing it by that age, but
- 59:46Speaker 1: but you feel like one day you can run your program.
- 59:48Speaker 1: And Teresa Phillips, athletic director at Tennessee State at the time,
- 59:52Speaker 1: I believed in me and so very appreciative for that.
- 59:56Speaker 1: And you know, just every day of my life from
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: banking to be a college basketball Take me through the lows,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: I guess of your first season five wins to then
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: the highs of your very next year, quadrupling that getting
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: twenty wins at a program that it only had a
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: winning season two times in the last nineteen years. You know,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: the first year was tough and took over a program
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: and it basically we had to bring in twelve new
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: players and that that was not an easy task, but
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: it was something that had to be done. And you know,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: it was sort of a blessing in the skies because
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: we had a chance to implement our culture from day
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: one because all the players were guys that we had
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: brought in and the one returner was a guy that
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: died signed when I was an assistant coach there, and
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: so that that was fortunately that helped us the following year.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: Our culture was in place. We just added we just
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: need to add a few more bodies, anew more guys
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: that can do some things. Our kids played really hard,
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: great kids, and won a lot of close games and
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: ultimately ended up with twenty win season. When you're an
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: assistant at which state you landed Fred Vanfleet, When you're
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: at Tennessee States ahead you land Robert Covington, How are
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: you able to find those diamonds in the rough, and
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: then what is it like seeing their success in the NBA.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: You know, I'm just a blushed man. I mean, I'd
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: like to say that it's something else, but just the
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: Lord lead me to the right places at the right times.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: To be honest, both of those guys are our coach's dream,
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: high character kids, are tough, underachievers, play with a chip
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: on their shoulder and become over achievers, you know. But
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: you know, it's it's exciting to see those guys have
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: success because they're following their dreams. And you know, I
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: use those guys as examples to our players every single
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: day that you can you can obtain your dream somebody
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: where you go. Right. Last year, twenty three wins here
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: at Missouri State, most wins in the program in the
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: last eleven years. What did that mean for you personally?
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: And then for this program? Well, just personal I was
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: happy for our players. We had a couple of guys
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: that had stuck together for a few years and uh,
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: you know, we got a big key Engauge brand that
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: could have transferred when anywhere in the country, but but
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: stuck with us. And then we had a dynamic guard
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Isaiah Mosley, probably the same scenario. But and then we
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: had a host of high character guys playing around them,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: uh you know, Jamonte Black and Scott Patterson, Isaac Haney,
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: Keith and Hervey, Donnie Clay. I mean, so we had
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: a nice mixture of guys and so so just personally,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: I was just happy for the players this year, replacing
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: essentially your entire roster nearly Donovan Clay the only guy
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: averaging over two points a game returning. What was that
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: challenge like? And how are you able to get chemistry
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: to jail so quickly? Yeah, you know, it wasn't an
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: ideal situation, but we had to play the hand of
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: cards that we were dealt, and uh, you know, it
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: was it was challenging because that's a lot of phone calls,
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: it's a lot of official visits, it's a lot of
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: background check, character check, and uh, you know, I give
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: credit to our staff a great job, and we've assembled
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: a group of guys that have the potential to develop
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: into a really good team. This year has been up
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: and down due to a lot of different reasons, but
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: I think most importantly just struggling with the level of consistency.
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: You need to be good every day. But I think
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: that comes from age. And you know, I have a
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: lot of fun coaching this group, very fun group, and
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: so looking forward to see how they can develop over
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: the next couple of years. How integral has Donovan Clay
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: played in being able to carry that identity, the culture
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: that you've established in previous years to this team with
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: so many newcomers. He's played a big part of that.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: And just you know, having an understanding of what we
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: like to do in regards to how we like to operate,
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: having a voice in the locker room, uh, you know,
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: especially dealing with so many first year Division one players,
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: I think that that's very important. And you know, Donnie
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: wants to win verst and foremost, and I think that that,
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: you know, throughout the course of this year has helped
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: bring along some guy a little quicker at what we imagine.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: You've been able to bring in three Power six transfers
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: along with two guys that played for NCAA tournament teams
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: have been majors a year ago. What are your thoughts
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: just in general on the transfer portal. Clearly you're able
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: to utilize it for your success, you know, I think
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: it's some positives and some negatives with our situation of
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: signing some of the players, we felt that it was
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: necessary to tap into it a little bit. You know,
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: each year is a different challenge. Each team needs a
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: different type of player. But it's it's good to have
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: that option if you need it, and then it's good
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: for the players to have the option if you're using
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: it for the right reasons. But that's like anything, and
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: so you know, my thoughts on the portal is it's
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: here to stay, and I think that the best device
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: is to figure out how to utilize it in order
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: to help your approgram. The previous three years, you all
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: have been about the middle of the pack in the
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: country in tempo this year three hundred and fifty fifth
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: out of three sixty three. What has been the reasoning
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: for that? Concerted that third to play a slower style. Well,
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: we struggle taking care of the ball, and uh, you know,
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: when we played really really fast, we turn the ball
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: over and then other team gets it in lazy in
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: it gets open shot. So until we can mature and
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: develop our skill to where we can take care of
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: the ball, and it's best that we take our time
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: and at least get a shot at the rim. Right
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: that makes sense. Do you feel like your team is
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: peaking at the right time as we head towards March
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: and Arch madness. Well, you know, prior to our last
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: two games, I felt like we were starting to play really,
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: really a lot better. Our last few games, we haven't.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: We haven't necessarily started one game very well and then
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: finished another game very well. I do think in between
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: we're doing some good things. What I like about our
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: group is their high character. They keep working, They're a
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: lot of fun, and I do think that they can
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: get hot and beat anybody. We've proven that we've got
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: I want to say, four wins against the top five
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: teams in our league, and that's not easy to do, right, So,
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: you know, looking to you to work at it and
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: hopefully play our best basketball a week from now. Right
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: to that point, you all have already swept Drake. What
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: kind of confidence does that give your guys in the
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: locker room that, hey, we can play with anybody in
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: this conference. We just have to be playing our best
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: basketball come early March. I think it gives the guys
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: a lot of confidence. Drake's a really good team, a
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: program we have a lot of respect for. They're obviously
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: one of the best bidden major. It's not one of
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: the best programs in the country issue, and so just
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: being able to draw back from those experiences throughout the
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: year should help us and and no only help us
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: this year, but help us in the years ago. I've
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: got a bit of a tough question for you. I
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: noticed through your career you had six conference tournament losses
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: by one possession or less. What is the lows of
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: that like to end your season when you're so close
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: to surviving and advancing, and then conversely, does that fuel
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: your fire even more to bring home a conference championship.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: It's a great question, and I think it does. You know.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: I think those hardships that we dealt with have to
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: have fueled us to continue to keep keep going and
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: and um, you know, looking for our opportunity eventually break
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: through one day. I didn't quite notice that many. Remember,
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: I wanted to give you a chance, if you'd like to,
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: to speak on your faith and what that's done for
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: you within coaching and impacting young people's lives as a coach. Yeah,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: it's been really important to me, and it's developed over time.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: My wife Christina has really helped me. Um, it's something
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: that I hold near and dear to my heart. I
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: take very serious. Um, you know, no one's perfect, but
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: I think that's the beauty of your faith. It's just
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: having someone to lean on, to carry you and just
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: be there for you, especially and in tough times, you know.
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: And so we've all got to spend eternity somewhere, and
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: so I'd like to spend mine in Paradise, yes, sir.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: Last question for you, I'd like to give you a
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: second to speak on your foundation, what that is and
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: what I guess inspired you to start that. So the
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: Rebound Foundation was started by my wife Christina and I
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: and both being from families who are domestic violence as
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: a nasty history, and after the birth of our daughter,
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: Charlie Rose, eight years ago, we felt like we needed
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: to be able to reach out and help our community
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: that she was growing up in in some way, and
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: so we started Rebound Foundation and we provide transitional housing
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: for women and children that leave a shelter and we
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: do that for six months to a year and pay
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: their bills and by their groceries. We give them everything
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: they need to rebuild their lives. And the job place
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: me financial literacy, and we just try to give people
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: a second chance. You know, it's no different in basketball.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: You miss your first shot, get the rebounding shot. That's amazing.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: Thank you so much for your time today, coach wishing
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: you and your team best of luck the rest of
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: the way. Thank you all right, thanks to coach Forward
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: for that. That's awesome. Actually haven't heard it yet. I
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: recorded the end and out of that interview and I
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: listen to it later, but I'm sure it was awesome.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: It was all right. Let's do final thoughts, Mike. You
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: want to final thoughts? Yeah, I gotta go over to
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: the NHL team, the Preds and do a shoot. Was
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: supposed to happen in forty minutes, but instead it's in ten.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: Where are you gonna play for him? What are you doing? Well?
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: I don't want to really spoil I get drafted at
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: age forty two. Around the room, Eddie final thought. So
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: I was given homework to watch the slam Dunk contest
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: and I did. Dude was mcl awesome. Mac mcclough was awesome.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: But I don't know how inc Max Gray. I don't
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: know how he plays, Like, how's he doing the NBA?
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: Is he good? Because he looks like he could be
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: good and Coleman can speak on this after I mess
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: it up. He is a nightmare if to have out
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: there defensively, it's it's tough. It's tough for him to
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: guard these guys right now, and so it's a little struggle.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: Bus Well. I mean, look at him, he's a small guy.
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: He can jump. I just think defensively right now, he
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: ain't there and I think that's that's what's tough. What
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: do you think about that answer? No, I agree completely, Yeah,
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: small guard to play the two, he's not really a one,
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: you know. Okay, Well, I mean should that he dominated
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: that dunk contest, but I don't understand too how they
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: judge it. Like to me, I'm like this, these were
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: all awesome, like every single one except Jericho Sims like
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: doing the whole thing hanging on his even moved. Did
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: you see the like none of the other players has
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: been reacted when he did it, they were like, okay,
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: it's and it's and then afterwards he grabbed his elbow
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: like ow that hurts, Like that of course it hurts. Yeah,
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: it was awesome. Thanks for the homework, dude. I enjoyed
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: watching that. Kevin beginning of the football season. You know,
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: we came up with the great name. Of course Coleman
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: wasn't here, but kick off Kevin. So I was thinking
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: the other day, I was like, well, do I need
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: to change it from basketball? You can't know, you can't
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: change it. You are who you are. But tip off
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: Kevin sounds pretty day. There's no alliteration, and we're really
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: doing this basketball for six weeks and football is like
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: a four month thing. I like, then you should be
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: tip off Tevin. It's like a chop part of our
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: tongue off. Now, tip off Tevin, It's how I feeling
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: up my tongue. Okay, my final thoughts, I think Russell
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: Westbrook in his prime talking about my former favorite player.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: Um was a poor man's Lebron James and you could
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: have won an NBA championship around him. He never had
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: a team set around his skill set, had terrible shooters
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: and was still leading the league and assists with guys
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: like Andre Robertson standing there in the corner. But what
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: about when like we'll go to the Okay, see days
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: when Pardon was coming off as a six man Durant obviously,
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: like that was a pretty good team but you're saying
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: because it wasn't built around him. Look at what Lebron's
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: always had. He's always had a great big that he
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: can use in the pick and pop or pick and
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: roll a bosh Anthony Davis to Kevin Love. Russell Westbrook
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: has never had that guy. He made Steven Adams look
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: like he had offensive ability that it just feels like blasphemy.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: Comparing him to Lebron poor Man's poor Man's with Porson
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: like third World country. Ye like nothing, we want to
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: give your kitch all this praise, but triple double and
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: Russell Westbrook. The movie was trying to knock me, but
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: Westbrook's like he's a stat pack whatever, it's his own. Emily,
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: have a final thought for the day, Glad I can
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: make my podcast debut on a sports podcast where my
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: favorite athlete is Jim Nay Yeah, and Blake because he's big.
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: It's a big dude. Yeah. I'm sure he played at
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: some high school level of college level. Bi wow, yeah, Um,
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: Emily had what kind of podcast would you do though?
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: If someone said, Emily, you get to a podcast, but
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: anything in the world that you're an expert on? Um?
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: I listened to the morning toes. So it's my wife. Yeah.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: I have talked to Caitlin about it before. Um yeah,
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: just like pop culture news probably what's really filling your
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: cup right now pop culture wise or something that's like, oh,
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: this is what I'm thinking about right now. Come on
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: you guys. I got to come back to you think
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: about it. It's like, here's my final thought. Um. So
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: Rich eyes And called me yesterday and I was with Eddie.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: We're working out, and I had my Apple Watch on
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: just because I like to see where we are time wise.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: I'm just a big time freak and so pop pops up.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: But I don't have his number on my phone. But
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: sometimes their name will be attached to their number and
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: it's like, la rich Eisen, And I'm like, Eddie, rich
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: Eisen's calling me right now. He's in the middle of
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: a push up. Yeah, And so I'm not gonna answer. Hey, Rich,
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: I call him, dude, pick up the phone. He's like,
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: I can't. I'm not gonna talk from my watch. And
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: second of all, Rich, hey, buddy, So I don't. I
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: don't answer it there, and then I feel like I
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: got to be in the right head space to talk
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: to rich Eisen. And like he's been on the show,
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: but that was professional, like I could talk to anybody
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: in this space, but like human, I struggle a little bit,
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: like one on one. And so I didn't call him
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: back at all last night. What you didn't, Well, like
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: I was pretty busy, but still I couldn't. I just
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: wasn't in the right head space. I was tired. I
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: don't want to like remember first talk to the rich
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: and I'll be good. It's like first day. And so
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: I texted him and said, hey, man, I'll be around.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: So I'm gonna talk to him today like what later
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: this afternoon at like five, And I'm know he's gonna say.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: I hope it's cool, but I'm a little nervous about it.
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: I have at my calendar. Dude, what if he's like, hey,
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: here's what you're gonna do. Don't do this, do that,
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: do that? When you'd be like, oh, oh yes, mister, yes,
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: I did see him comment on your Instagram that was cool.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: Which one when when I was stead of stilling in yeah, yeah,
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: I said I'll leave the keys under the matter or something. Yeah, hope, awesome.
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: I hope he's like that in person. I don't know,
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: but I was nervous. It was like watching it like
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: I was in eighth grade and the girl called except
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: no girl ever called me an eighth grade, So I
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: know what that was really like, Emily, what do you
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: have now? What do you what do you think about
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: that time? I feel like I've been keeping up with
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: like Rihanna's baby announcement and then em Rada. Do you
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: guys keep up with em Rada and her new boyfriend Eric?
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: Do you know who these people are? Hold on him?
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: Eric Andre? Though I thought he was with Emily Radakowski Emrada. Yeah,
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: oh that's what they call her, em Rada. Yeah, okay,
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: that's a picture of them. She said that like we'd
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: all know. But then I acted like I knew because
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: I was. But so I also have been falling. He's
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: the Valenti picture they posted. They were like naked, Yeah,
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: like he gives hope. Together, we were just like funny
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: and normal because it's it's not like he's ripped up
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: or anything. Right, Yeah, so Europe set you like that relationship? Yeah,
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: it's just like something current I've been following. I don't
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: know if they're going to be together in a week
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: from now, but was crazy you ship them a ship. Okay,
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: what are you talking about this podcast? Look, here's the thing.
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: I'll go and cover fashion for Eat and then I'll
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: go to rich Eysen. That's how diverted. I am versatile.
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: That's right, that was right. We thank you Emilly for
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: hopping in here. And I was just like, Emily, you
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: can come sit with us. And I was like, we'll
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: just going sitt in a microphone. She's like this one
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: is like just go and talk, all right. I was like,
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: check your mind. She's like why. I was like, who
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: knows that? Turning her podcast into the Breakfast Toast, the
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: Morning Toet whatever. Don't talk about my girls. Okay, I'm big.
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: Jackie stands okay, alright, alright, so it's COVID. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: Jackie is awesome. They're both awesome, but I'm more of
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: a Jackie, you know. She she she plays a straight person.
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: She's smart, she sets her sister up for success and
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: obviously hilarious. But Jackie like that's my girl. Yeah, she's good.
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: I'm leaving with Eddie maybe here we're about to go
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: back and listen to it. Mike. We're good, We're good.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: All right, Thank you guys, we will see you Monday.
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: Coleman will be in studio and Emily, you're welcome to
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: join us again if you'd like. I'll be gone, but
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: thanks for having me. I'm glad. Its like she was
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: about to be the yes this podcast. Yeah, yeah know,
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: she's olay favorite. Coleman's out. It's just her, all right,
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: Thank you guys, and go ahead, uh, go ahead, and
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: Kevin blow us out. I'm not gonna lie. I don't
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: know more money, guys. I'm the dependable one. I got you,
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: all right. We'll see you guys next week
