- 0:01Mizrahi inspiration. Sheer #11 again.
- 0:06It's important for us to take these abstract concepts, these
- 0:10big ideas, spiritual ideas, complicated ideas, and bring
- 0:13them down into reality. So there was a rabbi, but you're
- 0:17holy Rabbi, Rabbi Mayer Yehil of Ostrovsky.
- 0:21And whenever he would meet someone, he would and people
- 0:25would say, hey Shalom, where do you come from?
- 0:28Where do I come from? He would always say I come from
- 0:31Eretz. You surround, even if you come
- 0:34from a different country, because ultimately a Jew comes
- 0:37from the land of Israel. This might sound like a great
- 0:40little rabbi thing to do or something for a holy person, but
- 0:43if we do feel deeply connected to the land of Israel, if our
- 0:47source, if our story begins there, then it doesn't matter
- 0:51that within our our own particular family journeys it
- 0:55might be Europe, Eastern Europe, Safari world.
- 0:59Ultimately every Jew comes from the land of Israel and our very
- 1:06innermost essence. We belong to the land of Israel.
- 1:11And where do we know this from? Because it's not just a great
- 1:13little quip you know from the Madris Rabbi is already
- 1:17comparing. Contrast the behavior of
- 1:20yourself with the behavior of Masha Rabin.
- 1:23When Yosef was taken down to Egypt, what did he tell the
- 1:27people in prison with him? That I was stolen from the land
- 1:32of Israel, the land of the Hebrews.
- 1:34And when Mosher Abenu ends up in the Midjun and Yitrow's
- 1:39daughters are welcoming him to their family, well, that
- 1:43describing what went on during the day and how he rescued them
- 1:46from the from the bullies who were trying to attack them.
- 1:49They said an Egyptian man saved us.
- 1:52Now Moshe Abeynu hears their words.
- 1:56He hears them calling him an Egyptian.
- 1:58And he kept silent. Whereas yourself was proud to
- 2:02say, no, I'm a Jew. I come from the land of Israel.
- 2:05But hold on a minute. Moshe wasn't Egyptian.
- 2:09His parents lived in Egypt and he was born.
- 2:11He had an Egyptian birth certificate.
- 2:12How could he claim he was from another country when clearly he
- 2:15wasn't? And here is the answer.
- 2:20Through Hashem's promise of the land to Avraham's descendants,
- 2:25we all belong to the Land of Israel.
- 2:27Moshe belongs to the Land of Israel.
- 2:29We belong to the Land of Israel. So where do we come from?
- 2:31We come from the Land of Israel. Simple quote from Rov Cook.
- 2:37Because of our long exile amongst the impurity of the
- 2:41nations of the world, we've become accustomed to think that
- 2:44our life in Gallut, our life outside of Israel, is normal.
- 2:48And we forget that Eretz Israel is our natural, healthy,
- 2:51divinely intended place. And when the great book of the
- 2:57Kuzuri, the great philosophy book of the Halevi writes
- 3:02something very, very powerful, the Halevi is telling the king
- 3:05in the story how important the land of Israel is.
- 3:08And he said, well hold on a minute, you're living in Spain,
- 3:10you don't live that, you don't live in the land that you are
- 3:13praising. So here's a beautiful quote.
- 3:16The Rabbi confessors, You have uncovered my great disgrace, O
- 3:22King of the Kuzars. It is this sin which prevented
- 3:25the divine promise from being fulfilled in the time of the
- 3:28Second Temple. The divine Providence was ready
- 3:31to restore everything as it had been at the first in the first
- 3:34Temple. If all of them had answered the
- 3:36call and returned to the land of Israel, rather than staying in
- 3:39Babylon, but only a small portion respond to about the
- 3:42majority. And some great Jews amongst them
- 3:45remained in Babylon, preferring exile and slavery under the
- 3:48nations of the world, rather than giving up their houses to
- 3:51return to the land. If we had been willing to
- 3:54approach the God of our fathers with a pure heart, he would have
- 3:57granted us the same salvation which he granted to our
- 3:59forefathers in Egypt. Now since this isn't so, our
- 4:03prayers to worship at his holy mountain, worship of Mount Zion
- 4:07and other prayers like these are like the speech of the parrot
- 4:11and the chattering of the Starling.
- 4:12We say these words and others without true belief.
- 4:17To what extent do we fight, feel ourselves part of this same
- 4:23disgrace that Robbie heard the Halevi in the Khuzari speaks
- 4:27about. We might pray for the return to
- 4:29Israel, but do we really want to go?
- 4:32My friends have a very lovely day.
