- Sean Graver: Maybe things at work haven't gone the way you believed they would. And somewhere underneath the professionalism and the holding it together there's a silent question, a hard one. God, where were you in that? It's okay to say it, He can handle it. But let's take that question to God today and then let's pray. So let's go to Psalm 13. ⁓ verses 1 to 2, and then we'll jump to 5 and 6. So, long, Lord, will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? And then a few verses later, but I trust in your unfailing love. My heart rejoices in your salvation. will sing the Lord's praise for He has been good to me." So, King David doesn't skip from the question to the answer. He sits in the question first. And I think that matters because the Bible has room for disappointment. It doesn't ask you to pretend. And sometimes work delivers real disappointment. You know the door that should have opened didn't. The thing that you prayed specifically about went the other way. And the person that you trusted lets you down badly. And somewhere in that, if you're honest, there's a version of the question David asked. God, where were you? I don't want to rush past that with easy answers because I think the spiritual move isn't to skip the lament. It's to bring it to God though instead of burying it. So David didn't manage his disappointment, he prayed it out loud with full honesty. And then, and this is the part that takes faith, he chose to trust in the unfailing love anyway. Not because the situation changed, but because his confidence in God's character was bigger than his confusion about God's timing. Now you're allowed to be honest about what hurts and you're allowed to trust at the same time. Those two things can coexist. Well, God, I'm going to be honest with you the way David was because there are things I believed for that didn't happen. I prayed for a healing, but instead I lost a loved one. And I haven't always known what to do with that. So I'm naming it now not to accuse you, but because I'd rather bring it to you than to let it quietly become a wall between us. I choose today, like King David, to trust in your unfailing love. but not because I understand everything, but because I know your character and your character hasn't changed. Even when my circumstances have, you've been good to me. So help me to hold on to that today, Lord. In Jesus' name, amen. Go make today count.
