- 0:39Speaker 1: your young fella last night?
- 0:45Speaker 2: Apologize for me speaking to some of it obviously have
- 0:49Speaker 2: said at the moment. He went to work at two
- 0:53Speaker 2: o'clock and did my first pump and everything like he
- 0:59Speaker 2: always does. It's a good kid. And then it's a
- 1:05Speaker 2: quarter to nine. I was asleep, but I've got a
- 1:07Speaker 2: text and I woke up to the text and it
- 1:09Speaker 2: said I if you dad, I've been stamped. And then
- 1:17Speaker 2: he passed. I had he had my vehicle, so I
- 1:25Speaker 2: got an uber straight through the Airport hotel where the
- 1:29Speaker 2: police and paramedics were there, and the paramedics everyone was
- 1:34Speaker 2: was great and said that he had passed. Yeah. The
- 1:43Speaker 2: the staff were obviously upset, and the managers turned up everything.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Everyone was there with security guard. He tried to resuscitate him,
- 1:54Speaker 2: but to no avail.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Right, So your son messaged you after what had happened.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yes, ma'am.
- 2:08Speaker 1: What did he say?
- 2:11Speaker 2: He said? He said, love you being dabbed.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, I honestly I cannot even imagine how
- 2:22Speaker 1: you are feeling today and the fact that you have
- 2:26Speaker 1: garnered the strength to be able to talk to us
- 2:29Speaker 1: this morning. Can you tell me what type of what
- 2:33Speaker 1: tell me about your son? What type of what type
- 2:36Speaker 1: of kid he is?
- 2:38Speaker 2: Here's a wonderful opinionated wrong, lad you know typical twenty
- 2:46Speaker 2: years is twenty? Yeah, he was twenty in February. He's
- 2:51Speaker 2: been up in the territory the last two years, from
- 2:56Speaker 2: Queensland and Keynes before that. And he loved his football
- 3:00Speaker 2: and he just he was doing he was really into
- 3:03Speaker 2: music at the moment and he was trying to get
- 3:05Speaker 2: some songs released and also he was studying as well
- 3:10Speaker 2: and working thirty to thirty odd hours a week at
- 3:13Speaker 2: thew sair Ball.
- 3:16Speaker 1: And did he how did he like his job? Is
- 3:19Speaker 1: it something that he enjoyed doing or was he did
- 3:22Speaker 1: he had he ever been in a dangerous situation before.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Yes, he definitely had there. They have numerous He's been
- 3:33Speaker 2: had a screwdriver pulled on him a few weeks ago,
- 3:39Speaker 2: and the other staff members had been physically attacked and
- 3:44Speaker 2: he couldn't come back to work. They get tacked quite often,
- 3:48Speaker 2: that particular one, as all I know, and he was
- 3:51Speaker 2: looking for another job. He just couldn't handle it anymore.
- 3:54Speaker 2: And even uptil a week ago, a person came in
- 3:56Speaker 2: and asked for his resume. Well, I won't say the company,
- 4:01Speaker 2: and yeah, it's it's getting very very bad out there
- 4:05Speaker 2: for everyone. It really is. I mean, whether it was
- 4:08Speaker 2: my son or someone else has said with the best
- 4:11Speaker 2: done as well, it's something needs to be done. And
- 4:17Speaker 2: we should have been calling for this a long time,
- 4:19Speaker 2: and I know we have been, but.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Yeah, something has to change. It one hundred has to change.
- 4:28Speaker 1: No father should feel how you are feeling this morning,
- 4:31Speaker 1: and no father should have to suffer the loss that
- 4:35Speaker 1: you have to die.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yeah, that's yeah, that's exactly, and I wouldn't want anyone
- 4:42Speaker 2: else to feel it because it Yeah, it's just little
- 4:45Speaker 2: things that you know, I'm sysheim and I and you know,
- 4:51Speaker 2: just little things would have come home and the dinners
- 4:55Speaker 2: in the French know from last night and you know
- 4:58Speaker 2: it's just little, just little things in Yeah, it's especially
- 5:01Speaker 2: the first few hours because so interstate family become of
- 5:05Speaker 2: course that takes a little bit and in nationally and
- 5:07Speaker 2: that's so it's been really hard. Luckily I've had two
- 5:10Speaker 2: people to help me through this time at this stage,
- 5:13Speaker 2: but yeah, it's incredibly difficult. My work's been great, which
- 5:22Speaker 2: I don't mean they would be anything save ye, and
- 5:28Speaker 2: I'm doing so much support as well. I haven't heard
- 5:33Speaker 2: from BWS or anyone as of yet. I did speak
- 5:37Speaker 2: to their operations manager last night and their manager of
- 5:42Speaker 2: the airport and they were very very sincere. I have
- 5:45Speaker 2: texted as the manager of the sort she has taken
- 5:48Speaker 2: me today. I've got a conversation. I'm thankful for that. Now.
- 5:53Speaker 1: You told me that when you arrived, the paramedics were there.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I'm assuming that other staff that were there with your
- 6:00Speaker 1: son as well had helped him out. Can you tell
- 6:04Speaker 1: can you tell me what you saw and what they
- 6:06Speaker 1: told you?
- 6:08Speaker 2: Well, the problem was that they weren't able to say
- 6:11Speaker 2: anything because it's investigation. I wasn't my vehicle is still
- 6:16Speaker 2: there because obviously he had my keys. The worst thing
- 6:23Speaker 2: is is his friends in Darwin. I can't get hold
- 6:26Speaker 2: of them yet to tell them. I mean, they're going
- 6:29Speaker 2: to be hearing this from this media or some other
- 6:32Speaker 2: media outlet. You know, if they put two and two together,
- 6:38Speaker 2: I need to get four. The security guard, he really
- 6:44Speaker 2: tried to save his life. They have. The poor people
- 6:48Speaker 2: there were incontrollable as well. It's everyone. I mean, I
- 6:54Speaker 2: am thankful that they b WF has closed the stores
- 6:59Speaker 2: in day into a respect for my son, and I
- 7:02Speaker 2: thank them to that. And yes, you're right, it's very hard,
- 7:07Speaker 2: but it's more than one person has been infected here
- 7:11Speaker 2: and these other people who went through what they went
- 7:13Speaker 2: through last night, they're not going to be able to
- 7:15Speaker 2: forget this. And again something needs to be done on
- 7:23Speaker 2: your show that people have said that they've worked in
- 7:25Speaker 2: the industry before, and that particular place as well. I'm
- 7:29Speaker 2: not saying it's just that particular place, because it's not.
- 7:31Speaker 2: It's all over done with the view rules change. And
- 7:35Speaker 2: yes it has got worse from what I've heard in
- 7:38Speaker 2: the last few weeks as well.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it is. Honestly, I think we've all seen some
- 7:45Speaker 1: of the escalation in what's gone on over recent weeks,
- 7:48Speaker 1: and I think that that is why people are just
- 7:52Speaker 1: feeling Some people are feeling really angry this morning upon
- 7:57Speaker 1: hearing the news of the loss of your son. Others
- 8:01Speaker 1: are feeling absolutely devastated. And I do want to say
- 8:04Speaker 1: to you that you've got the whole of Darwin behind
- 8:08Speaker 1: you today. My heart is broken for you and and
- 8:13Speaker 1: our love and prayers to you. Like I said, I
- 8:16Speaker 1: cannot imagine how you are feeling, but please know that
- 8:20Speaker 1: all of the Northern Territory is behind you.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Thank you very much for the kind words, and I
- 8:26Speaker 2: really do appreciate everything and everyone that's thinking of myself
- 8:31Speaker 2: and my family at this time. Thank you.
- 8:34Speaker 1: So much. Love to you and to your family. Thank
- 8:37Speaker 1: you so very much for speaking to us this morning.
- 8:40Speaker 1: And I know that I'm sure some further detail will
- 8:45Speaker 1: come out, but please know that your son is going
- 8:48Speaker 1: to be remembered respected, and we're going to try our
- 8:53Speaker 1: best to make sure that something change changes.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Thank you very much. I appreciate it very much.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Thank you
