- 0:02Speaker 1: projector taps. It's jumbo, it's me, it's it's well. It's
- 0:07Speaker 1: an interesting collective. I have here today because we are
- 0:09Speaker 1: operating at a sixty six point sixty six recurring percentage
- 0:13Speaker 1: of TIFFs. There's three people in the show. Two of
- 0:18Speaker 1: them are called Tiff. I'm feeling outnumbered. I'm feeling marginalized.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We'll go to Tiff with two e's. You'd be happy
- 0:26Speaker 1: as a pig in shit, wouldn't you.
- 0:28Speaker 2: You're out tifted, You're out Yeah.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I am definitely out tifted now before we go to
- 0:36Speaker 1: our guest. The actual the reason we're here not that
- 0:40Speaker 1: you're not important. TC.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I you.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I was talking to you yesterday and one of my
- 0:47Speaker 1: mates says this expression, flatter than a shit Carter's hat.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Now you sounded listener, TIFs She's like, Tiff Fall's like,
- 0:55Speaker 1: oh fuck, they listen to how they talk on the show.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Oh my god, this is nothing. This is not Channel ten.
- 1:01Speaker 4: FU.
- 1:03Speaker 1: You need to say at least one fuck today, Tift.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Otherwise you don't. Otherwise you don't get your typ tick.
- 1:11Speaker 1: So you were flat yesterday, TIF cook, what is going on?
- 1:14Speaker 5: I was You know those days where you're just tired
- 1:17Speaker 5: and you're a bit miserable and you just want to
- 1:20Speaker 5: There are those days where actually the best thing would
- 1:23Speaker 5: be to get out and be around people, but the
- 1:26Speaker 5: hardest thing to do is get out and be around
- 1:28Speaker 5: people because you feel like a misery gut. So that
- 1:30Speaker 5: was me yesterday, dragging myself around going come on, TIF
- 1:36Speaker 5: make a good decision.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Well, so if yesterday were what were you? What were
- 1:41Speaker 1: you out of ten emotionally and mentally yesterday?
- 1:43Speaker 4: Give yourself a score maybe three?
- 1:46Speaker 1: And what do you reckon? You are today?
- 1:49Speaker 5: I reckon I'm on the upward and I'm rocketing to
- 1:54Speaker 5: a solid seven and getting better as the day goes on.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Well, I to talk about this, but let's introduce our
- 2:02Speaker 1: actual guest, Tip All. Hi, tiff Aall, welcome to the
- 2:05Speaker 1: You Project.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Thank you for having me.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I'm bloody super excited because you're a big deal. I mean,
- 2:11Speaker 1: I didn't know which T shirt to wear? Do I
- 2:14Speaker 1: wear the black one with Lonsdale? Do you wear?
- 2:16Speaker 2: Oh You're funny?
- 2:18Speaker 1: No one with everlast? I mean, fuck, I was holding
- 2:21Speaker 1: up T shirts standing in front of the mirror.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Look gorgeous.
- 2:24Speaker 1: You look. Thank you fucking liar Pants on fire Welcome back,
- 2:29Speaker 1: It's tiff Pants on fire Hall. Now everyone knows who
- 2:34Speaker 1: you are you of course, Well, you're an athlete, you're
- 2:39Speaker 1: still an athlete. You're a presenter, a journalist, you're an author,
- 2:43Speaker 1: you're a mum, you're a wife, you're an ex gladiator,
- 2:47Speaker 1: you're a host. Like your busy as fuck, I think
- 2:52Speaker 1: in science. So thanks for taking an hour out of
- 2:56Speaker 1: the busyness. What are you doing today? What's taking other
- 2:58Speaker 1: than this? What's taken your attention today?
- 3:01Speaker 2: Run a business?
- 3:02Speaker 3: So it was a meeting with our CEO, and I
- 3:08Speaker 3: did some training this morning and that's pretty much where
- 3:11Speaker 3: I've got to But yeah, the business does take up
- 3:14Speaker 3: a lot of my time.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd like to.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Put you two in an octagon, not a boxing ring,
- 3:20Speaker 1: because well, TIFFs a boxer and you're a fucking fifteenth
- 3:24Speaker 1: dan black belt in is it taekwondo?
- 3:27Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 3:27Speaker 2: Taekwondo? Yeah, yeah, So I would.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Like to just lock that cage, shut stand, get myself,
- 3:33Speaker 1: I get myself a protein drink, jump in a bean.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Bag, and I don't think what would do any good.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I don't know, although I have seen some UFC fighters
- 3:43Speaker 3: use the taekwondo very efficiently.
- 3:46Speaker 2: They're kicks and things, but I think a boxer would win.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah, once you kick her in the head.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Oh yeah, but you've got to get that kick and
- 3:55Speaker 3: you've got to have the distance, right.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Oh, it's tough.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Well, arguably arguably the biggest UFC personality in the world,
- 4:02Speaker 1: although not a competitor, but strongly tied to the UFC.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Of course, Joe Rogan. He's a very famous taekwondo black
- 4:08Speaker 1: belt and that was his That was the roots of
- 4:11Speaker 1: his martial arts, wasn't it.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a good foundation. It is actually a really
- 4:15Speaker 3: really good foundation for all other martial arts.
- 4:18Speaker 2: It is. I've loved it.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Just explain to our non martial arts listeners the difference
- 4:26Speaker 1: between say, karate, you know, taekwondo. I mean, well, obviously
- 4:32Speaker 1: it's vastly different to jiu jitsu and all of those things,
- 4:36Speaker 1: but just kind of the snapshot of what is. And
- 4:38Speaker 1: of course we've had Lauren Burns on my Yes love laws.
- 4:41Speaker 2: My dad goes straight at.
- 4:42Speaker 3: The Olympics, so really yeah, yeah, she's like part of
- 4:46Speaker 3: the family.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I love her.
- 4:48Speaker 1: She's a fucking gun and also a brain yak too.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Yes, isn't she? Oh, she's the best annoying.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Isn't an annoying when things drew foul?
- 4:58Speaker 2: Threat? She's amazing at everything.
- 5:00Speaker 1: You go, okay yourself. So what's taekwondo?
- 5:03Speaker 3: So, taekwondo is a Korean martial art, whereas karate is
- 5:06Speaker 3: a Japanese martial art, and it is a dynamic kicking sport.
- 5:10Speaker 3: So if you look at the sport of taekwondo at
- 5:13Speaker 3: the Olympics, it's not really using your hands at all.
- 5:16Speaker 2: You're just kicking.
- 5:17Speaker 3: You can throw a body punch and get a point,
- 5:20Speaker 3: but it is predominantly kicking martial art. Although the sport
- 5:24Speaker 3: of taekwondo is very different to the martial art of taekwondo,
- 5:27Speaker 3: and the martial arts still has the patterns or the
- 5:30Speaker 3: karters they're called in karate, and we do a lot
- 5:33Speaker 3: of self defense, and we do a lot of grappling,
- 5:35Speaker 3: and we do a lot of everything, a lot of
- 5:37Speaker 3: mixed martial arts within it. But the sport of taekwondo
- 5:41Speaker 3: is predominantly kicking, so it's very different to other martial arts.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Yeah, do you see yourself? And I mean this is
- 5:49Speaker 1: just a matter of perception, so no right or wrong.
- 5:51Speaker 1: But do you see like you do a lot of things.
- 5:53Speaker 1: You're an author, you know, putting aside the mum and
- 5:56Speaker 1: the wife thing, but in terms of just like the
- 5:58Speaker 1: stuff that you do so author present a journalist. You know,
- 6:01Speaker 1: you went to UNI bah blah blah. Do you see
- 6:04Speaker 1: yourself or do you feel first and foremost like an
- 6:06Speaker 1: athlete who does other stuff? Do you feel like you
- 6:10Speaker 1: know the other thing that now does taekwondo? I feel
- 6:13Speaker 1: like you're at your heart an athlete.
- 6:15Speaker 2: I am at my heart.
- 6:17Speaker 3: It's such a good question, and I think you know,
- 6:19Speaker 3: I was quite brainy at school and I love school
- 6:23Speaker 3: and I love studying, and I almost got a perfect
- 6:25Speaker 3: ATR like you're, you know, in year twelve, and because
- 6:29Speaker 3: I got basically ninety nine, I felt compelled to do
- 6:33Speaker 3: something with it. And I was like, well, I could
- 6:35Speaker 3: do law, I could do medicine. And there was a
- 6:37Speaker 3: journalism degree and you need a ninety eight point seventy
- 6:41Speaker 3: five to get into that at Melbourne University, and so
- 6:43Speaker 3: I sort of felt compelled to do that. And my father,
- 6:48Speaker 3: being an Olympic coach who is also a world fighter,
- 6:53Speaker 3: that was his job.
- 6:54Speaker 2: He went around the world fighting.
- 6:56Speaker 3: He has always said, don't be an athlete, don't be
- 7:00Speaker 3: a fighter, don't do that. You get one injury and
- 7:03Speaker 3: it's all over. There's no you know, you're done in
- 7:06Speaker 3: your thirties, blah blah blah. So I was very much
- 7:09Speaker 3: of I've got to get an education, I've got to
- 7:11Speaker 3: go to UNI. I've got to get a job other
- 7:13Speaker 3: than the personal training or the passion stuff that I
- 7:16Speaker 3: was doing at the time. And I was teaching body pump,
- 7:19Speaker 3: body combat, doing boot camps, doing personal training, doing all
- 7:23Speaker 3: of the fitness stuff.
- 7:24Speaker 2: But just felt compelled that I had to go and
- 7:27Speaker 2: do the university. And I did.
- 7:29Speaker 3: I got my degree, and I got diploma in languages
- 7:32Speaker 3: as well. And I did it but only for a
- 7:36Speaker 3: heartbeat because as soon as I saw a little article
- 7:39Speaker 3: in the newspaper to do a fitness test, me and
- 7:43Speaker 3: my boyfriend at the time said we've got to go
- 7:44Speaker 3: do this fitness test with everyone else in Melbourne.
- 7:47Speaker 2: And I passed the fitness test. He didn't. And that
- 7:49Speaker 2: was actually the audition for gladiators, but I didn't know
- 7:51Speaker 2: it was an audition for TV, and so I just
- 7:54Speaker 2: accidentally got through this grueling fitness test and they said, ah,
- 8:00Speaker 2: hired as Gladiator Angel and I was like, what what
- 8:02Speaker 2: is this? And I just gave up.
- 8:04Speaker 3: I was at the Herald Sun at the time, doing
- 8:06Speaker 3: like an internship and stuff and was very much wanting
- 8:10Speaker 3: to do journalism. But then I just started doing more
- 8:12Speaker 3: fitness stuff and fitness on TV, and then I just
- 8:15Speaker 3: have gravitated towards it. I think my parents being fitness
- 8:18Speaker 3: instructors too. It's just in my blood. I just love it.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Yeah, but now it's like you have almost this synthesis
- 8:26Speaker 1: of writing and media and creativity and sport, and it's
- 8:33Speaker 1: like you've brought it all together to make your own
- 8:36Speaker 1: bloody casserole. Anyway.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Yes, yes, very much so.
- 8:40Speaker 3: And now that I run the business, which is an app,
- 8:43Speaker 3: my TXO, and it's got you know, your fitness, your workouts,
- 8:47Speaker 3: your mindfulness, your meals, your recipes, all of that stuff.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a home of women's wellness.
- 8:54Speaker 3: It I'm always writing a blog or you know, doing
- 9:00Speaker 3: some kind of media to and using.
- 9:02Speaker 2: These skills always.
- 9:04Speaker 3: And you know, whether it's doing my own podcast or
- 9:08Speaker 3: I'm always writing, I'm always using that doing ad copy
- 9:12Speaker 3: or even you know, social media. It's a lot of writing,
- 9:16Speaker 3: and I really enjoy bringing it all together. But I'm
- 9:20Speaker 3: very happy that I've always followed my passion and that
- 9:23Speaker 3: has always been movement. And you know, I'm forty this year,
- 9:29Speaker 3: and I am having a lot of issues with injuries.
- 9:32Speaker 3: But my husband said to me, it's like you've been
- 9:34Speaker 3: an athlete and you've had a career into your forties.
- 9:37Speaker 2: That's pretty good. You know, it's pretty good.
- 9:40Speaker 3: And now my my athletic pursuits are just being able
- 9:44Speaker 3: to record the many, many fitness videos for the app.
- 9:47Speaker 3: So I'll do like forty a day, and there it's
- 9:51Speaker 3: quite ruling on the body. Forty videos, forty videos a
- 9:55Speaker 3: day over like three or four days.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Wow, it's like it's a huge load on the body,
- 10:02Speaker 3: big volume. And I used to do it easily in
- 10:05Speaker 3: my twenties, but now I'm carrying up righters in my
- 10:07Speaker 3: knees and I've had rist reconstructions, and I just I
- 10:11Speaker 3: really have to modify, and yeah, I have to change
- 10:15Speaker 3: things around a little bit nowadays because I am noticing
- 10:19Speaker 3: that I am I'm struggling. I'm at that time in
- 10:22Speaker 3: my life where every athlete gets to you.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Know, how long are those videos?
- 10:27Speaker 3: Tips they can be anything from five to twenty minutes.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Yeah wow.
- 10:33Speaker 3: So and I do take breaks and think forty a
- 10:36Speaker 3: day yeah yeah, because you know, I'm a business and
- 10:40Speaker 3: we need to be cost effective and we hire the
- 10:42Speaker 3: crew and we need to get it all done in
- 10:45Speaker 3: a matter of one or two days. And I train
- 10:50Speaker 3: for it and I make sure that I'm ready. But
- 10:54Speaker 3: it's huge on the nervous system. It's really huge on
- 10:56Speaker 3: the nervous system. And I do crash afterwards. It's very hard.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Yeah, it's literally like prepping for a tournament or something. Yeah,
- 11:04Speaker 1: like a two day huge tournament. Right.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Yes, absolutely, this is my you know event now, and
- 11:12Speaker 3: I do it, you know, every couple of months. And
- 11:16Speaker 3: I really do have to train and make sure that
- 11:18Speaker 3: I'm doing all the right recovery protocols and things like
- 11:20Speaker 3: that to make sure I can get there. But I
- 11:23Speaker 3: have I do carry a lot of injuries from combat days,
- 11:26Speaker 3: gladiators things like that, and the injuries get to me.
- 11:31Speaker 3: It's really really hard. It's really it's getting harder. And
- 11:35Speaker 3: plus I had two babies, which I count as major injuries.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Being pregnant as a fitness person wasn't easy. And then
- 11:44Speaker 3: I put on a lot of weight and then you know,
- 11:46Speaker 3: I had to get fit and strong again, and I
- 11:49Speaker 3: wanted to get fit and strong again, but it was
- 11:52Speaker 3: it was just two of the biggest things I've ever
- 11:55Speaker 3: happened to my body. You know, my body is my work,
- 11:58Speaker 3: so it was tough.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Give the app a plug. Just while we're talking about
- 12:03Speaker 1: your app and your business, yes, tell everyone what it is.
- 12:06Speaker 3: So it's my TXO and it's available in all app
- 12:09Speaker 3: stores and things at soft launch. At the moment, we're
- 12:12Speaker 3: still tweaking things. But the website is mytxo dot com.
- 12:16Speaker 3: That's where everything's available and you can read about it.
- 12:19Speaker 3: And yeah, it's my heart and soul and been doing
- 12:22Speaker 3: it for now eight years in business, which is big
- 12:26Speaker 3: because there's a lot of a lot of competition in
- 12:29Speaker 3: the fitness app space, a lot of free workouts on YouTube,
- 12:32Speaker 3: and if I can hold my own against all of that,
- 12:34Speaker 3: I'm proud of myself.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Well congrats, that's amazing. So my TXO, everyone go check
- 12:40Speaker 1: that out. That'd be awesome. A couple of things, like
- 12:44Speaker 1: things that I'm genuinely just curious about. So according to
- 12:48Speaker 1: my notes, you know, I do extensive research TIF sometimes
- 12:51Speaker 1: one to three minutes today I would have done too well. Actually,
- 12:58Speaker 1: there's a strategy in my lack of strategy, and it
- 13:02Speaker 1: is like I like to have an organic conversation and
- 13:05Speaker 1: find stuff out as we go, rather than I know
- 13:09Speaker 1: all the answers to the questions I'm asking. Yeah, I
- 13:12Speaker 1: did read that you are a sixth STAN black belt.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Maybe still is that correct?
- 13:17Speaker 3: Yes, that's correct, And I'm Cookie one official, which means
- 13:20Speaker 3: the World Typeweter Federation. In Korea, there's the Cookie one
- 13:24Speaker 3: World Typewonda Federation, So you can get you could get
- 13:30Speaker 3: any instructor to just grade you and just say I'm
- 13:33Speaker 3: a sixth stand. But I had to send off videos
- 13:36Speaker 3: and go write a thesis and go through all all
- 13:40Speaker 3: of those things and submit it to Korea, and hey,
- 13:45Speaker 3: thousands and thousands of dollars in order to go through
- 13:48Speaker 3: the process to become certified as Cookie one sixth STAN
- 13:53Speaker 3: and the problem and it's really hard because you need
- 13:55Speaker 3: to be certified as a fifth and fourth and third,
- 13:58Speaker 3: second first, and so this is something I've been working
- 14:01Speaker 3: towards since I was, you know, in my early twenties. Yeah,
- 14:05Speaker 3: it's taken twenty years and it's one of the highest
- 14:08Speaker 3: ranks you can have as a female martial artist at
- 14:10Speaker 3: my age, so you know, it's it's a big deal.
- 14:15Speaker 3: But yeah, I now focus more on coaching, not so
- 14:18Speaker 3: much competing, and really really do love the coaching and
- 14:23Speaker 3: the self defense and that side of things, which I
- 14:25Speaker 3: think is so important, especially with everything that's going on
- 14:29Speaker 3: now with violence towards women. I think, you know, we're
- 14:32Speaker 3: taught first aid in school, and we're taught, you know,
- 14:35Speaker 3: sex ed. Why aren't we taught a bit of self
- 14:37Speaker 3: defense that can save your life. I just don't get it.
- 14:39Speaker 3: So I've been in schools doing a lot of self
- 14:42Speaker 3: defense stuff.
- 14:44Speaker 1: One hundred percent I agree, and I think it's amazing
- 14:46Speaker 1: that you're doing that. Tell me a little bit about
- 14:52Speaker 1: navigating media, public attention, fame, all that kind of stuff
- 15:00Speaker 1: that comes with and body dysc morphea, not necessarily you,
- 15:07Speaker 1: but body you know, Like I've always had body issues.
- 15:11Speaker 1: I would say I'm a lot better these days, but
- 15:14Speaker 1: you know, eating issues, fucking eating disorders, disordered, like not
- 15:18Speaker 1: like identifying getting my sense of self through my body
- 15:22Speaker 1: and the fuck even like I think a lot of
- 15:25Speaker 1: people think it's just a female thing. It's a fucking
- 15:28Speaker 1: everyone's Yes, I've always been insecure about my body. What
- 15:33Speaker 1: about you know, as much or as little as you want,
- 15:35Speaker 1: but what about navigating that mental and emotional mindfield of
- 15:39Speaker 1: having to look a certain way and be a certain way?
- 15:43Speaker 1: How had that gone for you young?
- 15:45Speaker 3: When I was younger, in my twenties and I was
- 15:47Speaker 3: doing the Biggest Loser and it was tally and a
- 15:50Speaker 3: million viewers every night, four nights a week, we were,
- 15:54Speaker 3: you know, always being photographed and recognized, and you know,
- 16:00Speaker 3: it was hard to I felt pressure back then, but
- 16:05Speaker 3: one way I've always dealt with it, and something that
- 16:08Speaker 3: comes back to my parents.
- 16:10Speaker 2: They put me into taekwondo.
- 16:11Speaker 3: They put me into the dough boc, the white pajamas
- 16:13Speaker 3: that you train in, and that was it. I wasn't
- 16:15Speaker 3: in a ballet litad or anything, and you were covered
- 16:19Speaker 3: and it wasn't about what.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Your body looks like. It's about how your body performs.
- 16:23Speaker 3: And I'd always say to myself, Okay, if you're fit,
- 16:26Speaker 3: if you're healthy, your body's going to look and reward
- 16:29Speaker 3: you and be a certain way. So I did focus
- 16:32Speaker 3: on that health and that fitness, you know, throughout those years,
- 16:36Speaker 3: but I felt enormous pressure and it all culminated when
- 16:39Speaker 3: I had my first baby and I had a sick pregnancy.
- 16:44Speaker 3: I was eating a lot of salt and fat because
- 16:46Speaker 3: it was vomiting all the time, and the salt and
- 16:48Speaker 3: fat made me feel better than eating like slimy veggies
- 16:51Speaker 3: and fish and protein, which made me feel like vomiting more.
- 16:54Speaker 3: I put on forty kilows and all of a sudden,
- 16:58Speaker 3: I had the baby and I was a trainer like
- 17:01Speaker 3: I was forty kilos overweight.
- 17:02Speaker 2: I went from a size six to a size twenty two.
- 17:06Speaker 3: And I had this huge thing happened in my brain
- 17:11Speaker 3: where it was like, oh my god, if I don't
- 17:13Speaker 3: look like a fitness professional, if I don't look fit
- 17:16Speaker 3: and look like a trainer, will people trust me?
- 17:18Speaker 2: Will I have members? Will this business go down the gurgler?
- 17:22Speaker 3: Because I have lost my body, which was a billboard
- 17:25Speaker 3: for health and fitness and looking after yourself and all
- 17:28Speaker 3: of this. Fair enough, I'd had a baby and being
- 17:30Speaker 3: pregnant and all of that, but I had put on
- 17:32Speaker 3: the weight, I had eaten the food. I had not
- 17:35Speaker 3: exercised because I'd been sick, and i'd nine months later,
- 17:38Speaker 3: I was in all sorts and so it was a
- 17:42Speaker 3: really hard time, and I didn't deal with it very well,
- 17:46Speaker 3: and so my dealing strategy, my coping mechanism, was to
- 17:51Speaker 3: come out to people publicly and say I put on weight.
- 17:57Speaker 3: I posted a photo of myself in my underwear, overweight
- 18:01Speaker 3: with the baby, and was like, Okay, this is a
- 18:04Speaker 3: postpart and body, right, I'm going to get my fitness
- 18:07Speaker 3: and strength back. I'm going to take my time. And
- 18:09Speaker 3: at the time, I was already being contacted by magazines
- 18:12Speaker 3: to do covers and I hadn't even really even gotten
- 18:16Speaker 3: out of hospital yet, like I hadn't even you know,
- 18:19Speaker 3: finished having the baby, and people were asking me to
- 18:22Speaker 3: do the bounce back photos. So I kind of hook
- 18:25Speaker 3: the photo I'm underwhear and I was like, I'm not
- 18:26Speaker 3: bouncing back.
- 18:27Speaker 2: I hate the bounce back culture. I think it's toxic.
- 18:30Speaker 3: And I'm going to bounce forward and take my time,
- 18:33Speaker 3: and I'm going to do it properly and build that
- 18:35Speaker 3: foundation of strength and conditioning that I know you need
- 18:38Speaker 3: and pelvic floor and all the important little muscles that
- 18:42Speaker 3: get forgotten and neglected, and I'm going to do it right.
- 18:46Speaker 3: And it took me two years to lose the weight
- 18:49Speaker 3: and to get strong and fit again, but I did.
- 18:53Speaker 3: And I was then contacted by Chris Hemsworth to be
- 18:56Speaker 3: his director of training for his app center, and I
- 19:01Speaker 3: flew around the world with him with my baby in
- 19:04Speaker 3: peak condition, you know, breastfeeding, then training with Chris, then filming,
- 19:10Speaker 3: and it was just one of the biggest We went
- 19:13Speaker 3: to London when he was doing Men in Black, we
- 19:15Speaker 3: were following him to Byron, all the time, to New York.
- 19:18Speaker 3: We're going everywhere, and it was a really good experience.
- 19:22Speaker 3: But it just taught me to, hey, you know, don't
- 19:25Speaker 3: get caught up in pressure, but go back to the
- 19:27Speaker 3: foundation of who you are, which is, you know, really
- 19:31Speaker 3: respecting the process of fitness. And if you are fit,
- 19:35Speaker 3: then you're going to look good. So you got to
- 19:38Speaker 3: focus on that fitness. Man, you can't focus on the
- 19:40Speaker 3: weight loss.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Yeah, do you know what you said? Some well, all
- 19:44Speaker 1: of that was amazing, but I'd never thought about the
- 19:48Speaker 1: bonus of you know, the white pajamas, the gee whatever,
- 19:53Speaker 1: Like I'm like, that is so true, and it's so
- 19:55Speaker 1: good that you kind of covered.
- 19:57Speaker 2: From neck to so relieving, and it's like, oh yeah.
- 20:01Speaker 1: There's no objectification because everyone's just wearing the same shit.
- 20:06Speaker 2: And it's always the same as girls.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's all about function. It's not about look or
- 20:10Speaker 1: fashion or bullshit. Yeah that is that is a good.
- 20:15Speaker 4: Yeah, sorry, I reckon.
- 20:16Speaker 1: If I was a parent, I would that would be
- 20:19Speaker 1: one of the things that might tip me to get
- 20:22Speaker 1: my kids into a martial art. I think that is
- 20:25Speaker 1: such a nice idea.
- 20:26Speaker 3: It's so lovely and it's great. I think it's great
- 20:29Speaker 3: for girls and boys. But for me, I felt such freedom.
- 20:32Speaker 3: And I didn't grow up with social media. Hey, I
- 20:34Speaker 3: was on TV before social media, like TV was a thing,
- 20:38Speaker 3: you know.
- 20:39Speaker 2: And then my.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Manager said to me, oh, you know, we've got this person.
- 20:43Speaker 3: They're interested in an ambassadorship.
- 20:45Speaker 2: With you, you know, a client.
- 20:47Speaker 3: Oh and they're not interested that you're getting a million
- 20:50Speaker 3: viewers every night on the Biggest Loser. They want to
- 20:52Speaker 3: know your Instagram followers. And I'm like, what is Instagram? Like,
- 20:55Speaker 3: I wasn't even on Instagram. So I joined late and
- 20:58Speaker 3: now I go to the gym and everyone's got a
- 21:00Speaker 3: tripod and they're taking selfies of their butts and they're
- 21:04Speaker 3: doing all that stuff.
- 21:05Speaker 2: And I just wasn't.
- 21:06Speaker 3: That wasn't fitness to me growing up, Like it was
- 21:09Speaker 3: wasn't about your body, So it's it's all changed so much,
- 21:12Speaker 3: and there's so much social media pressure on young people
- 21:15Speaker 3: and it breaks my heart and I just that's why
- 21:18Speaker 3: I'm so passionate about martial arts. I really do think
- 21:20Speaker 3: it gives you a good foundation of strength and conditioning,
- 21:24Speaker 3: self defense and also positive body image.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Wow. So what does the pendulum swing from crazy, busy, mayhem,
- 21:36Speaker 1: focus productivity? What's the opposite look like for you? How
- 21:40Speaker 1: do you switch off? How do you how do you
- 21:43Speaker 1: be the calm and the chaos? What's your go to?
- 21:46Speaker 3: Well? I try and be smart with my work and
- 21:50Speaker 3: I have like Monday Fridays that are pretty quiet and
- 21:54Speaker 3: I bulk record a lot of stuff so that I
- 21:56Speaker 3: can have days off camera and days off my phone,
- 21:59Speaker 3: days not engaging at all. And that way I'm with
- 22:04Speaker 3: the kids and I'm present and I chill and I'm
- 22:07Speaker 3: like anyone else and love just to watch Netflix and
- 22:10Speaker 3: relax or I play the piano that I find very
- 22:13Speaker 3: relaxing as well. And you know, I have days off
- 22:18Speaker 3: training and I just recover or I sauna or you know,
- 22:22Speaker 3: I do make sure that I have those mental health days,
- 22:26Speaker 3: which I call the mental health days because I know
- 22:29Speaker 3: that if I keep going at a certain pace, I
- 22:31Speaker 3: just burn out. So and I say that to my team,
- 22:35Speaker 3: I say, I'm having a mental health day, Like, don't
- 22:37Speaker 3: contact me.
- 22:37Speaker 2: I'm just with kids and people. They respect that, you know.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Do you ever like one of the things with I
- 22:46Speaker 1: don't know if you're a type a personality, Yeah, yeah,
- 22:50Speaker 1: you are. Of course you are. Yeah, And I think
- 22:53Speaker 1: so is Tiff and maybe so am I to a point.
- 22:58Speaker 1: But like I put up a post this morning. I
- 23:00Speaker 1: can't remember exactly, but it said something like climbing a
- 23:03Speaker 1: mountains great as long as you're climbing.
- 23:05Speaker 2: The right mountains or that yes, And I'm like.
- 23:09Speaker 1: And I feel like for me, and it's not necessarily that.
- 23:11Speaker 1: It's like I was climbing a mountain. I had, you know,
- 23:15Speaker 1: multiple gyms and all this stuff, and I built all
- 23:17Speaker 1: this shit and it definitely wasn't bad. But I think
- 23:19Speaker 1: sometimes you get to the top of the mountain and
- 23:21Speaker 1: you're like yeah, yeah, and then a day, lady you're
- 23:24Speaker 1: like and then a week lady, you're like yeah, and
- 23:27Speaker 1: then lady you're like, what the fuck am I doing
- 23:29Speaker 1: on the top of this mountain? Or do you know
- 23:33Speaker 1: when you know, it's like you've written books, You've done
- 23:35Speaker 1: all this awesome shit, a million viewers, and I biggest loser,
- 23:37Speaker 1: fucking farc everyone from the outside looking in, it's Disneyland.
- 23:41Speaker 1: It's amazing. But I know and you know that when
- 23:47Speaker 1: you're in the middle of what appears to be a
- 23:48Speaker 1: super success story, it doesn't always feel that way, right,
- 23:53Speaker 1: Like there's the there's the the appearance of success, and
- 23:57Speaker 1: then there's the experience. Yes, about that for you, like
- 24:01Speaker 1: do you feel like are you ever satisfied? Are you calm?
- 24:05Speaker 1: Are you content? Are you insatiable? Like with all this shit?
- 24:09Speaker 1: How do you navigate that emotional stuff within within? You know?
- 24:13Speaker 1: Like this, but I reckon, I know, I definitely know
- 24:16Speaker 1: a disproportionate number of wealthy, successful, high profile people who
- 24:21Speaker 1: are more anxious, more depressed, and more medicated than that
- 24:26Speaker 1: vert Ofcomma's typical normal people.
- 24:28Speaker 2: That I know, yeah about a bit. Well, I think
- 24:31Speaker 2: the experience.
- 24:32Speaker 3: I think in my twenties, when I was on TV
- 24:34Speaker 3: and I was writing What's of books and I was
- 24:37Speaker 3: always looking for the next thing and it was all
- 24:39Speaker 3: about profile, I definitely was insatiable and it was always
- 24:45Speaker 3: the next thing, the next thing, what's next, What's next?
- 24:47Speaker 3: And I wasn't really happy when I had kids. I
- 24:50Speaker 3: had to slow down and I had to prioritize, and
- 24:55Speaker 3: it just taught me that I couldn't have it all,
- 24:57Speaker 3: not at one time. And now I only have two
- 25:02Speaker 3: things I focus on. It's the business and the kids,
- 25:04Speaker 3: and that's it. And I don't want to do television
- 25:08Speaker 3: ever again. I don't want those intense months and periods
- 25:12Speaker 3: of time where you have to give up your life
- 25:14Speaker 3: and just do that, and you know there's no balance,
- 25:18Speaker 3: and you know, TV is intense. And I'd start at
- 25:21Speaker 3: five am and I'd finish sometimes at nine or ten
- 25:24Speaker 3: at night, and that would go for seven days and
- 25:26Speaker 3: there was pressure of weigh ins and all of that stuff,
- 25:29Speaker 3: and you know, it wasn't normal, and then it finishes and.
- 25:33Speaker 2: It was like, oh now what like was? I felt lost?
- 25:37Speaker 3: But I don't feel that now because I think with
- 25:40Speaker 3: social media, with the way my business runs, it's all
- 25:43Speaker 3: about connection to women.
- 25:44Speaker 2: And I get contacted.
- 25:46Speaker 3: All day, DMS, emails for our help desk, Facebook community group.
- 25:51Speaker 3: People are always chatting to me, and I feel very
- 25:54Speaker 3: much part of this safe space and this nice little
- 25:57Speaker 3: tribe and cult where we can, and you know, just
- 26:01Speaker 3: try and be better together and feel well and do
- 26:04Speaker 3: things that make us feel good. And I feel like
- 26:08Speaker 3: I'm taking them along the ride with me through bad
- 26:11Speaker 3: days and good days. And as long as I keep
- 26:14Speaker 3: honest with the conversation and you know, really honest and
- 26:19Speaker 3: I am about my bad days, then it kind of
- 26:23Speaker 3: it's healthier for me than trying to be perfect and
- 26:27Speaker 3: you know, a certain body fat percentage, and you know,
- 26:32Speaker 3: on tally, I try and really keep it real. And
- 26:35Speaker 3: that's been saving grace these past few years for me,
- 26:38Speaker 3: because if it's just too hard to try and keep
- 26:41Speaker 3: your Instagram curated and perfect and you know, and have
- 26:46Speaker 3: that be the perception for people, I like to try
- 26:50Speaker 3: and keep it more real and that I'm just juggling
- 26:53Speaker 3: everything as a mum like anyone else, and that I
- 26:57Speaker 3: just did some TV back in the day. My husband
- 26:59Speaker 3: still does television, he does radio. He's very comfortable in
- 27:03Speaker 3: that space.
- 27:04Speaker 2: He loves it. But I couldn't think of anything worse.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Let him do it.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a big he's a big funny bastard. Yes,
- 27:13Speaker 1: if you listen to this, you're a big funny bastard.
- 27:15Speaker 1: I have a man crush on you. But anyway, you
- 27:19Speaker 1: probably have a lot of those. You know. It's interesting
- 27:22Speaker 1: Tiff and Tiff once again, everyone, it's a two third
- 27:25Speaker 1: tip ratio. Today. I feel very fucking I feel like
- 27:28Speaker 1: a minority on my own show because I am Tiff Cook.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Feel free to jump in. I was chatting yesterday. It's
- 27:37Speaker 1: not up. By the time this goes up, it might
- 27:39Speaker 1: be up. With Josh Lenardowitz, the bodybuilder. You know him big?
- 27:42Speaker 2: No, I don't know, I will, okay.
- 27:45Speaker 1: So Big Josh is Big. Josh is arguably Australia's best
- 27:49Speaker 1: ever bodybuilder. One.
- 27:50Speaker 2: He's really handsome, yeah.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Real good looking.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Yeah I do you know him? Yeah?
- 27:57Speaker 1: Yeah, so not me? Yeah. So he competed twice in
- 28:01Speaker 1: the Mister Olympia all this stuff, and anyway, he's been
- 28:05Speaker 1: through some shit lately and dealing with a couple of
- 28:10Speaker 1: health issues here this is documented. He had a like
- 28:14Speaker 1: a tumor inside his skull, a bone tumor, so not
- 28:18Speaker 1: a brain tumor, but so it was benign, but it
- 28:21Speaker 1: was anyway, there was a few. Anyway, he's been battling
- 28:25Speaker 1: some shit. But we were talking about which is why
- 28:27Speaker 1: I was in to talk to Tiff Cook at the
- 28:29Speaker 1: start about just having bad days, and we were chatting
- 28:33Speaker 1: and he wasn't having a great day, and we had
- 28:35Speaker 1: this podcast booked, and I said, good, let's have a
- 28:38Speaker 1: chat on a day that's not great, because guess what,
- 28:41Speaker 1: lots of people have lots of shit days, and we
- 28:44Speaker 1: don't all need to be love and light and unicorns
- 28:47Speaker 1: and pumping our fists and winning every day.
- 28:50Speaker 4: It's like, the practical reality is that life service. Life's
- 28:54Speaker 4: a bitch and sometimes like beautiful and amazing, and you know,
- 28:58Speaker 4: we're just all trying to figure shit out. But something
- 29:02Speaker 4: that you talking about being on Gladiators and we were
- 29:05Speaker 4: talking about the idea of standing on a stage tip,
- 29:09Speaker 4: especially in twenty twenty four, when the overriding messages, hey,
- 29:14Speaker 4: it doesn't.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Matter what you look like. Yes, then you go stand
- 29:17Speaker 1: on a bodybuilding stage and that's all that matters.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Are you being judged? Yeah, like you're.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Literally being judged, not metaphorically. Yes, yes, And I guess
- 29:26Speaker 1: I don't know, did you. I'm assuming and my assumption
- 29:30Speaker 1: could be wrong, but I'm assuming that as Angel the Gladiator,
- 29:36Speaker 1: you needed to look a certain way or you would
- 29:38Speaker 1: get the ass.
- 29:39Speaker 3: It was a real problem because I was very small
- 29:42Speaker 3: and the smallest gladiating history in the world, according to
- 29:45Speaker 3: all the the big fans that have all the gladiators
- 29:50Speaker 3: statistics and things. I'm only one hundred and sixty four
- 29:52Speaker 3: centimeters five foot four and I was under fifty five
- 29:56Speaker 3: kilos so light. I couldn't even see over the gauntlet
- 30:00Speaker 3: like and I couldn't even get up the pyramid because.
- 30:02Speaker 2: I was so short.
- 30:03Speaker 3: So they put me in the on the aerial games
- 30:06Speaker 3: up in the sky. I did hang tough and pendulum
- 30:08Speaker 3: and all the aerial games, and it was very good
- 30:10Speaker 3: at that because I could break fall with all my
- 30:12Speaker 3: martial arts experience, I could look after the competitors and
- 30:15Speaker 3: they never got hurt.
- 30:17Speaker 2: And I love the aerial games.
- 30:19Speaker 3: But they said, okay, if you can't when we don't
- 30:22Speaker 3: have time to bulk you up, because I wasn't a
- 30:25Speaker 3: bulky big person, but.
- 30:27Speaker 2: They wanted to lean me up.
- 30:29Speaker 3: So I had to lose more weight in order to
- 30:31Speaker 3: have more definition in order to look bigger on camera,
- 30:35Speaker 3: because camera does make you look a bit bigger, and
- 30:37Speaker 3: that to me was a bit hard. So I was
- 30:40Speaker 3: on a diet and they Channel seven provided the food.
- 30:43Speaker 2: It was like just fish and vegge and very dangerous.
- 30:46Speaker 3: And I remember getting into that disordered eating kind of
- 30:50Speaker 3: mentality where I was only eating what Channel seven gave me.
- 30:55Speaker 3: I was super scared to eat anything outside of the
- 30:58Speaker 3: little plastic containers they gave gave me. I was very underweight,
- 31:03Speaker 3: I think, especially for a contact sport like it's contact.
- 31:08Speaker 3: I was getting hurt and breaking ribs and stuff like
- 31:10Speaker 3: that easily when usually with a bit more padding in
- 31:13Speaker 3: taekwondo and stuff.
- 31:14Speaker 2: I never experienced that.
- 31:16Speaker 3: So it was very tough, and I just didn't have
- 31:21Speaker 3: the time to build the muscle, you know, it takes
- 31:23Speaker 3: a long time.
- 31:25Speaker 2: And this was TV.
- 31:25Speaker 3: Everything has to happen yesterday, and so I just went
- 31:29Speaker 3: on this diet and I looked shredded. I had abs
- 31:31Speaker 3: on abs and veins in abs, and like I did
- 31:34Speaker 3: get shredded. But yeah, I was just too light for it.
- 31:39Speaker 3: Crazy times.
- 31:41Speaker 1: It's so funny because like, as an athlete, it is
- 31:46Speaker 1: all about performance and function. Yes, like what you look
- 31:49Speaker 1: like is irrelevant. I mean, you're probably going to look
- 31:51Speaker 1: pretty good if you're an athlete anyway, but that's not
- 31:53Speaker 1: the point. Like it's all about performance. It's about functional physiology.
- 31:59Speaker 1: It's about can you do what you need? It's about strength, power, speed, agility,
- 32:03Speaker 1: coordination for you skill of course, but then they're not
- 32:07Speaker 1: worried about that, they're worried about what you look like. Yeah,
- 32:11Speaker 1: it's so fucking ridiculous.
- 32:12Speaker 2: It's so ridiculous.
- 32:13Speaker 3: And we weren't playing on the games and we didn't
- 32:15Speaker 3: have access to them, so we had to train. I
- 32:17Speaker 3: trained on monkey bars for Hang Tough because I thought, well,
- 32:20Speaker 3: that makes sense. I'll get my hang strength and like
- 32:23Speaker 3: my grip's strength going.
- 32:26Speaker 2: And I was just trying to work it out myself.
- 32:27Speaker 3: And then on the day, literally audience TV cameras rolling,
- 32:32Speaker 3: first time trying the games myself.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Oh it was a mental time. It was really mental.
- 32:38Speaker 3: And I was young and I was, you know, in
- 32:40Speaker 3: my early twenties and impressionable and really struggled coming off gladiators,
- 32:45Speaker 3: thinking I had to maintain that look, you know, I
- 32:49Speaker 3: was a gladiator, should look like a gladiator. When I
- 32:51Speaker 3: went back to being a healthy wait healthy for running
- 32:55Speaker 3: and puck wandoing and doing all the things that I
- 32:57Speaker 3: loved doing strength training, and yeah I did, I struggled
- 33:01Speaker 3: with that kind of body image stuff, you know, and
- 33:05Speaker 3: it wasn't until like I met my husband, and you know,
- 33:11Speaker 3: I kind of was like snap out of it, like
- 33:13Speaker 3: that's not you weren't actually performing and at your peak
- 33:17Speaker 3: of fitness and strength back then, you were weak, you know,
- 33:20Speaker 3: because you were under eating. You know, so you got
- 33:23Speaker 3: to have a stern word with yourself. Sometimes it's very.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Hard, just out of interest.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Oh six', Five, yeah we look ridiculous. Together that's.
- 33:36Speaker 1: WELL i hope you got some serious bug and high.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Heels, yeah, YEAH i.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Know do you guys ever work out? Together do you train?
- 33:43Speaker 3: Together, no we have a rule we're not allowed to
- 33:46Speaker 3: BECAUSE i end up trying to coach him or saying
- 33:48Speaker 3: he can do one more, set or like you can
- 33:50Speaker 3: live heavier than, that or giving him a technique tip
- 33:53Speaker 3: or something like that and he corracs. It but he's very.
- 33:57Speaker 3: Good he actually has his personal training. Qualification he did
- 34:01Speaker 3: that early. On he's very proficient in the. Gym he
- 34:05Speaker 3: will take my. Advice but we don't train. Together we
- 34:07Speaker 3: just get a little, BIT i get under his. SKIN
- 34:10Speaker 3: i just like try and make him do something better
- 34:13Speaker 3: or showing him something, new or he just doesn't want
- 34:15Speaker 3: to hear. It, so you, know we have separate gym
- 34:18Speaker 3: memberships at different.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Gyms oh, really that's. Hilarious that is. Hilarious, yeah it's that.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Hardcore do you have a parenting style In Inverted commas
- 34:31Speaker 1: that you could describe as a? Freestyle is it? Strategic
- 34:36Speaker 1: is it? Organic do? You is it something you? Developed
- 34:40Speaker 1: like do you attention to any of the experts in Inverted?
- 34:44Speaker 3: COMMAS i do pay attention TO i Like Maggie Denton Connected,
- 34:48Speaker 3: parenting AND i do pay attention AND i feel LIKE
- 34:51Speaker 3: i need to.
- 34:52Speaker 2: LEARN i really. Do it's something that's.
- 34:55Speaker 3: DEVELOPING i don't prescribe to a type of, parenting ALTHOUGH
- 34:59Speaker 3: i do like, routine AND i think routine gives my children.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Safety they know what's coming, next and like they have
- 35:07Speaker 3: a time that they go and have a, nap and
- 35:09Speaker 3: they have a dinner time and a bath time those
- 35:12Speaker 3: kind of simple things and a Bedtime and it's not
- 35:15Speaker 3: LIKE i just let them be up all night and
- 35:17Speaker 3: they'll tell me when they're tired and go to.
- 35:19Speaker 2: BED i do have a routine with, them BUT i don't.
- 35:25Speaker 2: KNOW i am just. LEARNING i mean my youngest is,
- 35:27Speaker 2: One arnold is, six.
- 35:30Speaker 3: AND i feel Like i'm failing on a daily basis with.
- 35:34Speaker 2: Them our family pet died our dog.
- 35:37Speaker 3: Yesterday talk about bad, Days, yeah very. Bad he had terminal.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Cancer we had to put him, down so very. Tough
- 35:46Speaker 3: but that's WHERE i was challenged because the kids were
- 35:48Speaker 3: so upset AND i had to deal with that and
- 35:51Speaker 3: explain about let you going over the rainbow bridge to
- 35:55Speaker 3: pet paradise and where he was going to be happy
- 35:57Speaker 3: and maybe come. Back you, know he was ready as
- 36:00Speaker 3: another puppy or.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Something and it was just.
- 36:03Speaker 3: All really hard, thinking oh, gosh are we? Religious DO
- 36:06Speaker 3: i bring in? Religion or DO i is this? Heaven
- 36:09Speaker 3: or like what DO? I it was really hard in
- 36:11Speaker 3: managing trying to Coregulate arnold's, emotions and there was heavy
- 36:17Speaker 3: sadness and heavy TOPICS i just and also the thing
- 36:19Speaker 3: of DO i let him say goodbye to the dog
- 36:22Speaker 3: before we put him? Down or do we put him
- 36:24Speaker 3: down and then say the dog has gone over the rainbow?
- 36:27Speaker 2: Bridge do you know WHAT i? Mean, like all those
- 36:28Speaker 2: decisions are really.
- 36:29Speaker 3: HARD i did Let arnold have make the choice would
- 36:32Speaker 3: you like to say goodbye To?
- 36:33Speaker 2: Fletcher and he.
- 36:34Speaker 3: Did he went and gave him a pat and a
- 36:37Speaker 3: kiss and a, cuddle and they had to, play AND
- 36:40Speaker 3: i think that was healthy For.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Arnold BUT i don't. KNOW i don't know If i'm
- 36:43Speaker 2: stuffing him up every, DAY i honestly. Don't it's the
- 36:46Speaker 2: hardest gig in the.
- 36:47Speaker 1: World, YEAH i think you're doing a brilliant.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Job oh thank.
- 36:52Speaker 1: You if that just hit, you didn't it?
- 36:56Speaker 2: TYPICAL i, mean, yeah, yes, yeah jes a.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Dog we're kind of dogaholics.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Here, yes, okay you understand BECAUSE i never. Know it's
- 37:05Speaker 2: Such i've felt, flat all, weak like like you, tif,
- 37:08Speaker 2: like just really not.
- 37:10Speaker 3: PERFORMING i had to cancel a few THINGS i HAD
- 37:14Speaker 3: i have just it really knocked.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Me could not stop.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Crying terrible when you have to make the decision whether
- 37:20Speaker 3: they live or. Die as, well and he was very
- 37:23Speaker 3: ill and we had amputated his, leg so he was
- 37:26Speaker 3: on three legs to try and get the tumor off
- 37:28Speaker 3: and save. Him but he and we went through the
- 37:31Speaker 3: trauma of amputating his leg and then he. Died, anyway
- 37:36Speaker 3: it's really. Sad it's. Horrible you just, think DID i
- 37:39Speaker 3: make the right? Decision and every days like, THAT i
- 37:41Speaker 3: think with, kids you just THINK i DID I DID
- 37:44Speaker 3: i fuck that? Up you, know, Honestly and there's my
- 37:47Speaker 3: f word for the. Day DID i fuck that? Up
- 37:49Speaker 3: because honestly it. IS i go to bed most nights thinking,
- 37:53Speaker 3: GEEZ i did not nail today as a. Parent and
- 37:57Speaker 3: it's the biggest LOAD i, think mental.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Load how long ago Tiff cook was did coach pass?
- 38:03Speaker 5: Away it's two years?
- 38:07Speaker 1: Now? Wow, yeah because that feels LIKE i don't, know four.
- 38:12Speaker 1: MONTHS i know it's. Not it feels like four months.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Ago it feels really. Recent it's.
- 38:16Speaker 3: Crazy, yeah it doesn't get, easy does? It and, no
- 38:21Speaker 3: it hangs around like, yeah Because arnold was asking me
- 38:24Speaker 3: today on the way to, school when WILL i feel?
- 38:26Speaker 2: Better AND i, thought, wow not for a. While and
- 38:30Speaker 2: it's a. Process there's a process to.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Grief and you, know we're in the crying, tiery can't talk.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Stage you.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Know, WELL i think like nobody's really trained for, parenthood are.
- 38:43Speaker 1: They it's like when you do anything for the first,
- 38:46Speaker 1: time whether it's go on, gladiators start a, business write a,
- 38:49Speaker 1: book become a, parent go do a, degree like you
- 38:53Speaker 1: just you. Know of course people can advise, you but
- 38:56Speaker 1: you can only really really learn experientially in the middle of. It, like,
- 39:01Speaker 1: yes you're going to funk some things, Up you're going
- 39:04Speaker 1: to get some things. Right you, know you're going to
- 39:07Speaker 1: have a slightly different approach with number two than you
- 39:09Speaker 1: did with.
- 39:10Speaker 3: Numbers, yes you, know it's really. Hard AND i couldn't
- 39:15Speaker 3: believe THAT i had a. Baby and then they said
- 39:17Speaker 3: at the, hospital, okay off you go. HOME i was,
- 39:19Speaker 3: like are we going to do a? Class are we
- 39:22Speaker 3: going to have like give me? Notes BECAUSE i love,
- 39:25Speaker 3: NOTES i love, Studying, like give me some. NOTES i
- 39:28Speaker 3: don't know what to do with this. Baby and then you,
- 39:30Speaker 3: know we're. Struggling how do you get a newborn to?
- 39:33Speaker 3: Sleep that was that really did me. In it just
- 39:37Speaker 3: that was such a hard, time you, know and they
- 39:39Speaker 3: do eventually, sleep but learning beating and breastfeeding and all
- 39:44Speaker 3: of that, stuff like it was it was.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Pretty, Hardcore, like, yeah really need a manual for a.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Baby, okay So i'm going to ask you a few philosophical. Questions,
- 39:54Speaker 1: okay we'll see where we. Go so you are forty
- 40:01Speaker 1: On july the, eleventh just off the top of my.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Head oh, no not really off the top of my.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Head i've got. Notes so one day you're going to
- 40:10Speaker 1: be forty. Five if everything goes great On PLANET, tif
- 40:15Speaker 1: what will life look like when you're forty, Five what
- 40:18Speaker 1: do you Think if everything goes according to plan and
- 40:22Speaker 1: you're winning, life what will you be doing when you're forty?
- 40:24Speaker 1: Five do you.
- 40:25Speaker 3: Think forty, FIVE i would love to still be doing the.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Business but business is, hard And i've had a few
- 40:33Speaker 3: components of the business not, work and LIKE i had
- 40:39Speaker 3: an active wear, line for, example THAT i just could
- 40:41Speaker 3: not keep going with and it pulled my focus from
- 40:46Speaker 3: the fitness. Stuff and you, Know i've had a few
- 40:49Speaker 3: hard times with. Business it would be really nice if
- 40:52Speaker 3: at forty FIVE i could be earning a living for
- 40:56Speaker 3: my business and be really happy just doing. That and
- 41:00Speaker 3: my goal is to earn enough to relieve the pressure
- 41:05Speaker 3: of my, husband who has. That you, know he's very
- 41:09Speaker 3: grateful for HIS tv and radio, work but it is
- 41:11Speaker 3: contract to contract, work and he can have everything this
- 41:14Speaker 3: year and on the first Of january next year have. Nothing,
- 41:18Speaker 3: yeah and then, financially what do you?
- 41:20Speaker 2: Do what do you?
- 41:21Speaker 3: Do SO i would love to, say, hey, baby it's,
- 41:24Speaker 3: okay don't, Stress i've got.
- 41:26Speaker 2: This you.
- 41:27Speaker 3: KNOW i would love for the business to prosper enough
- 41:31Speaker 3: For ed to just chill and do his passion.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Projects you, know.
- 41:36Speaker 3: At the moment it's not at that, level but that's
- 41:39Speaker 3: WHAT i would love in the next five.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Years, yeah good for.
- 41:42Speaker 1: You it's a, grind that's for.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Sure it's a, grind all.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Right next, question what is something, significant Tiv hall that
- 41:52Speaker 1: you have changed your mind. On it could be in
- 41:55Speaker 1: the last six months or in the last ten, years
- 41:58Speaker 1: or a belief that you have that got challenged and
- 42:01Speaker 1: now you have a new. Belief there's something that did
- 42:04Speaker 1: a one at.
- 42:05Speaker 3: ON i came from taekwondo and it was all about,
- 42:12Speaker 3: speed AND i always did like lightweights AND i never
- 42:16Speaker 3: touched the heavy.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Weights and THEN.
- 42:19Speaker 3: I think that in my TWENTIES i was a cardio
- 42:22Speaker 3: bunny as, well AND i have just changed my attitude
- 42:26Speaker 3: on the power of strength. Training odd, yeah and how
- 42:30Speaker 3: transformative it is for your, hormones for your, metabolism for your,
- 42:36Speaker 3: body for your. Mind it's something that you don't have
- 42:39Speaker 3: to rely on your. Mood like, cardio you, GO i feel,
- 42:41Speaker 3: Great i'm going to go for a, run but when
- 42:43Speaker 3: you feel, flat you don't really feel like doing, cardio
- 42:46Speaker 3: and then you blow off. Cardio BUT i feel with weight,
- 42:48Speaker 3: training you can do it no matter how you. FEEL
- 42:51Speaker 3: i JUST i ALWAYS i never never really believed in
- 42:55Speaker 3: the strength training enough to do, it but NOW i
- 43:00Speaker 3: since having, injuries it is the most important thing That i'm,
- 43:04Speaker 3: Doing and especially Because i'm going to hit perimenopause and
- 43:08Speaker 3: move into menopause territory over the next ten to fifteen,
- 43:11Speaker 3: Years i'm trying to train for that and build strong
- 43:15Speaker 3: muscles that are you, know fat, factories and you, know
- 43:20Speaker 3: just really work hard for my body and look after.
- 43:23Speaker 3: It especially Because i've got arthritis in my. Knees you,
- 43:26Speaker 3: Know i'm really trying to build muscles around my knees
- 43:29Speaker 3: to hold them.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Up VM o fastest, absolutely so you know, WHAT i
- 43:35Speaker 1: love fat fat. Factories like people don't understand having more
- 43:39Speaker 1: muscle lean in, listeners having more muscle helps you burn
- 43:44Speaker 1: more fat at rest because muscles what we call metabolically,
- 43:47Speaker 1: active which helps you stay. Lean so, one you're improving
- 43:52Speaker 1: bone density and cognitive function and functional strength and movement and,
- 43:56Speaker 1: capability but also lifting weights which doesn't seem like but
- 44:01Speaker 1: it actually helps you stay, lean which is fucking. Amazing
- 44:06Speaker 1: i'm super proud of you for lifting heavy. Shit well.
- 44:08Speaker 2: Done Yeah i'm. TRYING i don't live very, heavy BUT i.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Try i'm sure you. Do, Okay i'll tell you who's pretty.
- 44:15Speaker 1: Strong the other, tip she's a fucking. Unit, yeah she
- 44:19Speaker 1: also girl girl. Power she got me. Covered but that's not.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Hard i'm a. Hundred so here's my next somewhat philosophical.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Question have you Had i'm sure you have or maybe you,
- 44:35Speaker 1: haven't but in your life like a almost like an epiphany,
- 44:40Speaker 1: MOMENT i Reckon i've had in my life for maybe
- 44:44Speaker 1: like moments WHERE i went oh, fuck like like somebody
- 44:48Speaker 1: pulled back a curtain AND i just had this revelation
- 44:52Speaker 1: or this recognition of something THAT i needed to know
- 44:57Speaker 1: or be made aware of or. Change have you had
- 44:59Speaker 1: any epiphany moments over your almost forty? Years?
- 45:03Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah so in two thousand and nineteen to twenty,
- 45:09Speaker 3: twenty THROUGH covid and all, THAT i got burnt. Out
- 45:14Speaker 3: BUT i was clinically diagnosed with chronic fatigue, syndrome which
- 45:18Speaker 3: felt to me like a life sentence because they're like
- 45:20Speaker 3: there's no, cure like just that's it's the end of.
- 45:23Speaker 2: You And i'm, like hang on a.
- 45:24Speaker 3: MINUTE i do fitness stuff LIKE i need to move an,
- 45:27Speaker 3: exercise and they, said, no, no, no that's the worst thing
- 45:29Speaker 3: you can do for your. Condition and SO i came
- 45:33Speaker 3: out publicly and, Said i've got this chronic fatigue.
- 45:35Speaker 2: THING i can't.
- 45:36Speaker 3: Work the business is going down the, toilet AND i
- 45:40Speaker 3: need to. RECOVER i don't know How i'm going to do,
- 45:42Speaker 3: it AND i don't know When i'll be, back But
- 45:44Speaker 3: i'm going to go do.
- 45:45Speaker 2: It and it was a big moment in my life
- 45:46Speaker 2: WHERE i had to.
- 45:48Speaker 3: STOP i was doing too much AND i had to
- 45:52Speaker 3: really look at. RECOVERY i had to really look at
- 45:55Speaker 3: my mental. HEALTH i had to really look at the
- 45:57Speaker 3: WAY i was doing, stuff and it was pulling back
- 46:03Speaker 3: to bare necessity and basics and the basic.
- 46:08Speaker 2: Stuff of drinking, water.
- 46:09Speaker 3: Sunlight LIKE i was so, FATIGUED i couldn't even walk
- 46:13Speaker 3: to my, mailbox you, Know AND i would just stand
- 46:16Speaker 3: with my feet in, grass trying to just ground myself
- 46:20Speaker 3: and get some. Sunlight AND i had a trainer who
- 46:23Speaker 3: would physically move my body into a stretch, position AND
- 46:26Speaker 3: i remember being moved into like this thoracic kind of
- 46:29Speaker 3: stretch and just be sitting there in the, sunshine, going
- 46:33Speaker 3: oh my, god my life is. Over and they test
- 46:37Speaker 3: you for depression and your heart and all this, stuff
- 46:40Speaker 3: and nothing came. Up it was just my nervous system had.
- 46:43Speaker 3: Gone i've had. Enough AND i learned so much about
- 46:46Speaker 3: nervous system back, then AND i think that that is.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Everything. NOW i don't.
- 46:51Speaker 3: TRAIN i don't train my nervous system, anymore you, know
- 46:55Speaker 3: with sprint training and cardio and high intensity and big
- 46:58Speaker 3: volume days and things like, that THAT i don't go back
- 47:01Speaker 3: to back with filming days and things like. That i've
- 47:03Speaker 3: put rest days in between now AND i make sure
- 47:07Speaker 3: that my sympathetic nervous system is stimulated all the, time
- 47:11Speaker 3: and you, KNOW i make sure that the vegas nerve is.
- 47:14Speaker 3: Stimulated AND i JUST i just really am looking after
- 47:17Speaker 3: myself because you can't pall from an empty. Cup BUT
- 47:22Speaker 3: i was pouring from an empty cup for a long.
- 47:24Speaker 3: Time and that's not health and, fitness and that's not being,
- 47:27Speaker 3: healthy and that's not WHAT i need to help other people.
- 47:31Speaker 3: Do so it was a huge moment and it took. Me,
- 47:35Speaker 3: WELL i Think i'm still, recovering to be, HONEST i
- 47:38Speaker 3: still can't do the exercise and train at the capacity
- 47:41Speaker 3: THAT i did BEFORE i had that nervous system.
- 47:45Speaker 2: BREAKDOWN i, Reckon i'll call. IT i still.
- 47:48Speaker 3: CAN'T i have to have rest, DAYS i have to
- 47:51Speaker 3: go to bed. EARLY i still have to do things
- 47:54Speaker 3: That i've never recovered from.
- 47:56Speaker 2: It BUT i am still very functional.
- 47:58Speaker 3: Now but it was definitely a moment where it was,
- 48:01Speaker 3: like if you keep, going you seriously are not going
- 48:04Speaker 3: to ever be able to walk like it. Was it
- 48:07Speaker 3: was so, bad it was really really.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Bad that's so. Interesting, LOOK i think for, PEOPLE i
- 48:13Speaker 1: think probably all three of us on this particular, episode you,
- 48:18Speaker 1: know there's have a propensity to overdo. Shit there's fucking,
- 48:23Speaker 1: oh there's a, revelation you, know like there's a fine
- 48:28Speaker 1: line between discipline and. Obsession, yes you, know discipline is in,
- 48:32Speaker 1: control obsession is out of. Control and you, know you,
- 48:36Speaker 1: know WHEN i was a, KID i was you know,
- 48:38Speaker 1: whatever fat fourteen year, old all that. Bullshit BUT i
- 48:41Speaker 1: ended up starting to, train and WHEN i, trained all
- 48:44Speaker 1: of a, sudden life got amazingly, better you, know like, socially, emotionally, mentally.
- 48:49Speaker 1: Physically and then you get all this approval and all
- 48:52Speaker 1: this recognition and all this acceptance because you're not the
- 48:55Speaker 1: fat kid. Anymore you're the athlete, now and all of
- 48:57Speaker 1: this great shit. Happens and then so that's like a.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Drug SO i, went, well IF x is, good then
- 49:05Speaker 1: two x's fucking twice as, good and FIVE x must be.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Incredible So i'm doing FIVE X and then you, know
- 49:12Speaker 1: there's no logic in, that but there's kind of just
- 49:15Speaker 1: this emotional kind of, story and, yeah i'd. SAME i
- 49:19Speaker 1: just got to the point WHEN i opened my FIRST
- 49:23Speaker 1: pt center, tip which was in nineteen ninety when you were.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Six that's annoying, Anyway when WHEN i opened my first,
- 49:34Speaker 1: one there was none, right there was none In, australia
- 49:37Speaker 1: AND i had no. Staff it was just. Me SO
- 49:40Speaker 1: i had this fifteen hundred hundred and fifty fifteen hundred
- 49:43Speaker 1: foot square. SPACE i spent all the money in the
- 49:46Speaker 1: world THAT i, had all of the money in the.
- 49:48Speaker 1: WORLD i sold everything THAT i could SELL i, got
- 49:51Speaker 1: took all the money out of my bank account except
- 49:53Speaker 1: two hundred, dollars AND i basically created a small commercial,
- 49:58Speaker 1: gym but it was only for me and my client,
- 50:00Speaker 1: anyway the first week THAT i, opened BECAUSE i already
- 50:03Speaker 1: had a, business BUT i was based IN i was
- 50:06Speaker 1: based in public gyms training my. Clients but the first
- 50:09Speaker 1: WEEK i, OPENED i did over sixty hours OF. Pt
- 50:14Speaker 1: but then on top of, that you, Know i'm cleaning the.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Gym i'm changing your running a. Business i'm trying to
- 50:19Speaker 1: fucking do. ADMIN i don't know what admin. Is i'm
- 50:22Speaker 1: trying to you. Know and then, anyway SO i, was you,
- 50:26Speaker 1: know within the first four, WEEKS i was completely fucked
- 50:28Speaker 1: BECAUSE i was working eighty nine hours a week and
- 50:31Speaker 1: getting getting to the gym at four am and, cleaning
- 50:33Speaker 1: and AND i JUST i got to this point WHERE
- 50:37Speaker 1: i Thought i'm going to have a, breakdown and my
- 50:39Speaker 1: training was going, backwards AND i, thought all, Right i'm
- 50:43Speaker 1: going to SO i in a rare moment of clarity and,
- 50:47Speaker 1: LOGIC i, said, Right i'm going to Train, Monday, Wednesday
- 50:51Speaker 1: friday for three. Months So i'm going to go from
- 50:54Speaker 1: seven days to three. Days and in my, Mind i'm,
- 50:58Speaker 1: LIKE i know That i'll go, backwards BUT i won't
- 51:00Speaker 1: go too far. Backwards and that will that Means i'll
- 51:05Speaker 1: be you, KNOW i won't be, overtrained i won't be under,
- 51:08Speaker 1: recovered i won't be so. Exhausted i'm just going to
- 51:11Speaker 1: focus on my business and my, clients building, knowledge, skills
- 51:15Speaker 1: all that, shit and just do three workouts a week
- 51:17Speaker 1: and whatever will happen will. Happen fuck, It i'll. Cope,
- 51:20Speaker 1: yeah and of course you know What i'm going to.
- 51:22Speaker 1: Say and over three, MONTHS i got bigger and stronger
- 51:25Speaker 1: like a motherfucker BECAUSE i was having four days a
- 51:29Speaker 1: week of recovery and my body loved it BECAUSE i
- 51:33Speaker 1: had zero. DAYS i went from no recovery to all
- 51:36Speaker 1: the recovery and even though mentally and EMOTIONALLY i hated,
- 51:40Speaker 1: it you. Know so there is that REAL i think
- 51:44Speaker 1: for people especially who are the type one, perfectionist you,
- 51:48Speaker 1: know like To that's WHY i reckon it is good
- 51:51Speaker 1: to have a trainer or a coach or a mentor
- 51:54Speaker 1: that that isn't, you because it's hard for you to
- 51:58Speaker 1: be objective about you because you're tiff you. Know so
- 52:04Speaker 1: it's that subjected, thing all. Right so one more. Question
- 52:09Speaker 1: it's a two part question to. Finish so one is
- 52:16Speaker 1: what is your? Superpower don't overthink? It first thing that
