- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome everybody to others receiving votes.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for joining us, Pat 40 here with Gene Woodja Husking Brian Fisher as always.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: We have a playoff bracket and as usual, reaction is calm, measured, reasonable, no controversy.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody just aptly accepting the results and moving on.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: College football wouldn't be the same if we didn't have people losing their minds.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: over the 12 team playoff who's in, who's out, who's playing home, etc.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_01]: A conspiracy theories, bitterness, anger, we got it all.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: So let's dive into it.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: I let me first just for the listeners.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: Let's let me go through the bracket as quickly as we can here to set the table.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: 12 team playoff is we know first round.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: Number 12, James Madison will be at Oregon.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_01]: Number nine, Alabama will be at Oklahoma.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: Number 11 to Lane will be at number six.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: Ole Miss, number 10 Miami will be at Texas A&M.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: The four teams that got the buys, number one seed Indiana.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: Number two Ohio State, number three Georgia, number four Texas Tech.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: The name you never heard me mention there was no-ter, Dame.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: We will get to that.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: But let's just start with this.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: A brought over view question, Gino.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: What was your reaction when you saw the bracket?
- 1:34[SPEAKER_02]: I was absolutely stunned not to see no-ter Dame in the bracket.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_02]: I couldn't believe it.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm actually not sure they made the wrong decision, though.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_02]: I know how you feel, or I'm guessing I know how you feel on this.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_02]: But I am stunned that they didn't make it.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_02]: And we can get into all the reasons why or why not.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_02]: But that took me a second to process.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_02]: I, when they showed Miami instead of Notre Dame, it was like,
- 2:12[SPEAKER_02]: Wow, this committee actually did it.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_02]: And I wasn't sure that they would, right?
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, neither was I.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think you look at everything that went into these rankings.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we try to kind of parse things and we try to figure out what the committee is going to do for five weeks now.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think anybody in college football had any clue what this particular committee was going to do.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think you had some, I was funny, looking at a lot of the projections out there,
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: Some people had Notre Dame in, some people had Miami in, some people had Alabama out.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you ran the gamut in terms of what the, what the order was going to be.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: Even that two-three questions in terms of IO state and Georgia in terms of where those two teams would landed, which obviously impact where the quarter final sites are going to be as well in terms of who got that two-three.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: So nobody had any idea really what this committee was going to do.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, the biggest surprise no doubt was just leaving Notre Dame out after weeks upon weeks,
- 3:11[SPEAKER_00]: of having the Irish separate with Notre Dame, they finally made the move and I think it was one that you probably could have seen coming a little bit after what be why you, you know, that resulted against Texas Tech, but it was shock.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: It was shock to see the Irish out of the field, but by no means was I alone in that one and I think everybody in the entire country was.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I guess I would say I was surprised, I was not necessarily outraged, but I was surprised.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: I, when Miami flipped up there, it was not what I expected.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: The thing that struck me out of this and it goes into this just ridiculously wonky system that they use to get anywhere as college sports does with everything.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: Look at the NCAA rulebook, but
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: The two playoff are the two conference championship games.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: The SEC in the big 12, the big 12 mattered.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: It was a 24 point win, that one mattered.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: The 21 point SEC game, I says my column, it was a meeting that could have been an email.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't exist.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: The number three team in the rankings, one by 21, and did not move.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: The number nine team in the rankings lost by 21
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: But be why you got booted the heck out as I think they should have consideration and when they were out then all of a sudden we open up the trap door here in this wonky system and then the Miami Notre Dame game matters when it didn't matter before and that's where it just it blows my mind
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: that we come to this to make these decisions.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I look, I think Miami should probably should have been ahead of Notre Dame.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't, like it's not like this was a travesty there.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: I am very surprised Alabama received no penalty whatsoever.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: We're getting trucked in the SEC championship game.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: And also again, you go back to the fact that they moved up a spot off of a very shaky win over Auburn that was described in glowing terms.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no doubt, and I think the issue with, you know, Alabama and particulars, they haven't played well for really six weeks now.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the entire second half of the year, they have not blown teams out.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: They have not taken really taking care of business against a lot of their SEC opponents.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: They're four and four and one of those, you know, two and two and their last four games and one of those two wins is over in SES opponent.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: The kind of not been playing well, really, since that Georgie game, you know, that is the first half of that Georgie game, really, because you go back the Bulldog shut them out.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: They shut them out for nearly four and a half quarters this season.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: But those first two quarters where they just ran wild there in between the hedges, that is really the biggest thing going for Alabama.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we've seen that in these committee rankings, in terms of the respect.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: of the crimson type of that, and why they're in the bracket, frankly, it kind of comes down to one half of one game, and if that's why you're hanging your hat on Alabama and the playoff field, that's going to ring a shallow, I know it's out thin for sure, but but in a lot of places in college football will move forward.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: Pat, I can only, I'm only guessing here, but the fact that
- 6:32[SPEAKER_02]: uh... in two games to the same opponent uh... and the second time on a neutral field was a difference maker where is bama had one at Georgia
- 6:45[SPEAKER_02]: And then admittedly got steam rolled on a neutral field.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that might have been the difference there.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure that had to be the difference there.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_02]: I was surprised that if you were going to keep Bama in this in this playoff that they didn't at least drop.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_02]: one spot.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: So that was curious.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_02]: But you're right, there there was this inconsistency why BYU is penalized for losing their conference championship game and Alabama wasn't.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: And so there were some questions there.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_02]: And they still haven't been fully explained.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_02]: The idea of why did it take so long for Miami and Notre Dame to be compared head to head until this final weekend, I still don't understand the reason.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_02]: And Reece Davis, too, has credit, kept on asking the question, asking the question, and really didn't get a very good answer.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: He did not know he tried to get it from on your check and that's the thing and again I go back
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: And Gene and I are approaches from different perspectives.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: He likes the TV show because it is transparency.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: But the transparency doesn't help the committee.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: It just makes him look like they're flailing around back and forth, and can't figure out how to explain themselves.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: And this was the latest example of it.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: I guess the game against the Notre Dame Miami game should have mattered for weeks.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: And apparently it didn't matter until selection Sunday after neither of them had played.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's the part that just they the lapse of logic there and this protocol while we take four teams and we compare them and hey.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_01]: Stop it.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: Stop it.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: You guys are too complicated.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: You complicate everything you do to the extent that it just makes it hard for people to understand hard for them to appreciate and then they study you know what what you don't understand you start to doubt and you start to suspect and what's the conspiracy here and that sort of thing.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure there is no conspiracy.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: I am sure, and I think for the most part, these decisions are logically defensible.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't understand why Alabama didn't drop us, but especially because if you're dropping the 10, you avoid a rematch game with Oklahoma.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: that if they're 10, they're playing number seven, Texas A&M, and Miami is playing Oklahoma.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: Unless they felt like they would've been rewarding Miami too much for having done literally nothing.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but the, yeah, the community just does a bad job explaining itself over and over and over.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: If they're gonna work on one thing for next year, I would love to see that is just find a way to arrive,
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: bullet points of these were our big topics of conversation and this is how we arrived at these rankings or whatever the case may be.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad they take questions.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to say don't take questions but get better at answering them.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: I guess would might be my thing.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_02]: And regardless of how they got there, I guess the question I'm curious from both of you, do you think they got it right?
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: And that is, that's the ultimate question.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think largely yes.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I probably would have had Notre Dame in an Alabama out, but I respect the fact that Alabama has some really good wins on the resume and played well for.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: a portion of the season.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: This latest they are not coming in as a hot team by any means matter fact them in Oklahoma both are staggering in and somebody's going to win a game there but that's my that's my big problem there otherwise
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: I really don't have a major problem.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: Here's the thing for Notre Dame in my opinion is, I feel bad for him, but somebody had to go, right?
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: This was going to be hard.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: This was going to be hard.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: That's the way it is.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I am so glad we are leaving out the number 11 team and not the number 5 team and a 14 playoff or the number 3 team and a BCS setup.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: So this is better.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_01]: If you're Notre Dame,
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: You got to figure out how to start the season better right last year they somehow got away with losing the northern Illinois in the second game they did that and still made the play off and went to the championship game it's somewhat I guess I don't know there's irony or not somebody who's smarter literally can correct me that you can lose the northern Illinois and make the play off.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: but you can lose to two playoff teams and not make the playoff.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's where they are.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's on them, right?
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: You drop up extra points and happens.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's a heck of a margin to lose by, but they did at home to Texas A&M.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: Your offense wasn't ready to go against Miami.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: You didn't give the ball to Jeremiah Lovin off in that first game.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: It matters.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: So that's my only gripe.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what do you guys think about what was right or wrong?
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, at the end of the day, the committee was trying to find the 12 best teams.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know, that is what they are ultimately tasked by and they've been pretty consistent on how having Alabama, if you kind of go back in terms of looking at some of the past rankings, they've respected Alabama and had them ahead of Notre Dame.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it just kind of got where essentially Notre Dame has not moved in these last couple of rankings and so they've been pretty consistent on where they think the Irish are in terms of that cut line and just happen to have, you know, the head to head come into play.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I don't think that's necessarily anything against Notre Dame.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think if you were to say which is one of the 12 best teams in the country.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think if you're looking at it from a talent perspective, if you're looking at it from an eye test perspective, if you're looking at it from a resume perspective, Alabama fits that criteria.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and no today was just simply in this day and age and in the season where there's a ton of those ten and two teams out there, you know, they ended up losing the two games that they could not.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: And it's disappointing for them.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think if you're the Irish if your Marcus Freeman right now, though, you can use this as a little motivation and from a bigger picture perspective to lose as much talent as they did from that national title team a year ago in a lot of leadership on that team.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: to lose your first two games and then run off, tin and a row, be right there to barely miss out on the college football play.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's still a good season for Notre Dame.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I bet that's gonna get lost in all the hubbub in South Bend and beyond this week, but that should be said, that this was a good season for Notre Dame.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: You came up a little bit short, sure, but this was ultimately a successful season for the Irish and they can use that as motivation going into next year when guess what, they'll be one of the favorites, not just to make the play off,
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: but to probably get a top four seat, maybe even when the national title with what they should have coming back next year.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: So it was just a difficult task and this was just just the issue that we're facing nowadays in college football with all these mega conferences with less data points than ever in terms of comparing these teams in these conferences number one and within the conferences themselves.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: It was a difficult task for the committee and one of the more difficult change, you know, cut lines in terms of where they've got to make those difficult decisions that they've had really in the past the 12 years that they've been around.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_02]: It was an impossible task for the committee and we're trying to figure out a way to squeeze three teams where only two are going to get in.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_02]: And there was not going to be an elegant way to get out of this situation.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_02]: The weirdest thing to me is I really believe that Notre Dame is a better team than Alabama.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_02]: I think they have a better chance of winning the national championship than Alabama.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_02]: But if you're looking at their season as a whole,
- 14:38[SPEAKER_02]: It is very hard to argue with the idea that Alabama beat Georgia at Georgia, beat Vanity, Mizzou, Tennessee when all those teams were ranked and did it four weeks in a row, right?
- 14:51[SPEAKER_02]: And then they make it to the SEC championship game against a team, I'm sure we all agree is easily one of the favorites to win this thing.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_02]: And so when you compare
- 15:07[SPEAKER_02]: and then really not have because of their schedule, not have much of an opportunity to make a real statement other than beating those teams as much as they could.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_02]: It's a really difficult thing to kind of wrap your head around.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_02]: So I truly believe that Notre Dame is one of those best teams in the country, but that Alabama
- 15:35[SPEAKER_02]: based on the protocol, probably deserved to be in it ahead of our head of Notre Dame.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's the conundrum, and that's why this sport is both fantastic and maddening.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I agree with you that if Notre Dame were in the field, I would probably pick him to win at least one game.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: But they didn't make a field.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: So what do you do?
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I can't, you know, again, I can't cry a river for them on not making it.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: It was a brutally difficult task.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: And somebody had to go.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: And it was them a couple conspiracy theories I want to run by you.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: Did the committee
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: include Miami as a make up for the ACC having not not getting an automatic bid.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: Was this a was this a life raft to the ACC after completely flubbing its championship game matchup and
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and no, you know, I think Hunter Yurich I did kind of mention this a little bit.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: That, you know, look, this was going to be the loan ACC team into the field and look, they were denied by the ACC themselves in terms of not even making the conference title game, you know?
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: So, I guess, you know, logically, sure, I think I could believe that a little bit, but I think at the end of the day, it was simply,
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: they had Alabama, they had Notre Dame, they had Miami on their screen.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_00]: And once you take away Alabama from that group, you're comparing the direct head to head.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: All right, that's that's fine and Andy, and then boom, we're putting Miami in.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think that necessarily that talking point kind of came up, but when they were looking probably at the bracket at the end, they said,
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: And what, it's probably good at the end of the day, saying, hey, Miami, not only are you one of the 12 best teams, but you're at least representing the conference, you're at least in there for the ACC, especially given all the talk last night coming out of Charlotte from many DAs.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody at Duke, the talking points being sit around from the ACC office, at least they got one in.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: Is it a conspiracy?
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: No, but I think if you're sitting there in the ACC office is you're at least happy enough that you get one team in.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think committee spent one nanosecond thinking about how can we do right by the AACC in this process.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_02]: I think they looked at the teams and I think the determining factor was they finally got to and it took them forever and we can debate that this whole podcast, it took them forever but they finally got to the head to head.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_02]: between Miami and Notre Dame.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_02]: And that was the reason why they took Miami.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think I'd add anything to do with the fact that, oh my gosh, we might not have an ACC team here.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't think that was in any part of the equation.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even, I don't think the ACC had, you know, done anything necessarily to earn any preferential treatment and it's not an intimidating entity per se, you know, that's going to like there's going to be any repercussions if you if you leave them out.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: So I think this is just the way it fell and quite frankly look if you're if you're looking at for.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: a bigger TV draw our national brand Notre Dame still bigger than Miami.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: So you know, you would have included Notre Dame from that standpoint.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't think that's a factor here at all.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I don't want to hear the TV part of it either, you know, the ESPN and TNT and who's the other partner in this HTO.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: They want all the brand names.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Tulane, Jane Madison.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_02]: So let's just stop right there before we people talk about that part of it.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we only have to go down that road.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: The other conspiracy, Alabama and Miami raised Holy Hell last year.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_01]: Getting left out, Alabama was first team out.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_01]: Miami was second team out.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: We don't want to hear that again, especially from the tide.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think, Jane?
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: If Alabama would have been left out in favor of Notre Dame, I could have lived with it.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: I could have understood the reasons why.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_02]: Bama has not played well coming down to stretch.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_02]: Bama has a number of injuries.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_02]: It certainly have impacted that team.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_02]: And some of the problems they've had all season still remain at the end of the season, mainly they can't run the ball.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_02]: So I would have I could have lived with it and I would have understood the reasons why Greg Sanky would have had you know quintuplets had not not made it and and and that's part of his job description to stand up for his his conference.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_02]: If Bama had not made it and it turned out for a second year in a row, they didn't make it, that's just tough.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's just the way it goes.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_02]: But certainly, Bama put itself in a position to be doubted.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: The committee, I think if it did, anybody of favor was not dropping them after some of these recent games.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm fine without turned out.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_02]: but I certainly understand the arguments for why Notre Dame could have been chosen over Alabama.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, it's funny because you mentioned Greg is saying either, you know, he was arguing for seven teams to make the play off, you know, earlier this week before the SEC title again, which is his prior, you know, that that's his progress.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what he should be doing as the commissioner of the SEC and look, you know what, if you're sitting there in your Vanderbilt, you're probably saying, you know, look, if you compared us to Miami, hey, we're we're better than that.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we're right there with Alabama, you know, we should be one of those teams in and I get that.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: I get those arguments, but I think if Alabama had had been left out there would have been just I mean, number one fine bomb would have been fantastic.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: Here's some of those fun calls.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: to replace and save him.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_00]: And you end up on the wrong side of the cut line two years in a row.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know, what would his status be?
- 21:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's already, I don't think they necessarily, the group attack fans are thrilled at him, especially after seeing, you put on 4th down, or instead of punting, you go forward and forth down in your own territory and on the
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: a fourth and 12 yard line last night in the SEC title game to get blown out even worse than then you should have been.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_00]: They're in the SEC championship game, so I don't think the type fans are necessarily super happy, but man they would be really upset if they're sitting on the playoff outside looking for two years in a row.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think, frankly, we were kind of looking how would this, the strength of schedule debate, that was the topic to sure in the offseasoning, the SEC kept beating that drum.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: Well, if the Alabama had been left out, you would have been hearing that times 10 going over the next couple of weeks, the next couple of months, the next couple of years from the SEC territory, if they had been left out.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, from that standpoint alone, I'm, I'm, I'm like relieved, you know, yeah, we don't have to be cuddled about the head and shoulders with SEC strength of schedule.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think the SEC was dealt with very fairly here.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: You, and sorry, I'm, you know,
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: I am not here to entertain Texas or Vanderbilt as teams that were wronged by being left out.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: So, those are my two conspiracy theories.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: We have put those to rest.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's good.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: We're not on the grassy know.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: Got some, some other winners and losers for you to react to here?
- 23:28[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'm sorry.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_02]: Can I just mention one last thing though, Pat.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_02]: If you're one of those
- 23:35[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, we know the reality of it.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_02]: We know the protocol.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_02]: We know the rules.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_02]: We know that the G5 conference champions get in.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_02]: That's just how it's set up.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_02]: But if you're Notre Dame today, if you're Vanderbilt today, if you're Texas today, if you're BYU today, and you see 20th ranked Tulane and 24th ranked James Madison in there, you have got to be going, what are we doing?
- 24:03[SPEAKER_02]: How is this possible?
- 24:05[SPEAKER_02]: I thought we wanted the best 12 teams in there, nothing against a lane or jam you, okay?
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: Now don't misread this, but if you're them, I could see where they're going.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_02]: We're ranked here, they're ranked way down there.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_02]: They're in, we're not, this makes no sense.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, I mean, look, that point will absolutely be brought up.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_01]: And that's fine.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: People can argue that point if they want that's I want this kind of playoff.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: I told you I want nine automatic bits man.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: I want more conference champions.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: I want more conference diversity in there.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I want less of the fourth and fifth place teams from leagues getting in.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: And if your leagues too big,
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's your problem and that goes back to the scheduling issue here and how Miami could be left out of a championship game because you got 17 teams and you're trying to work this out in your tiebreaker stink and you don't have divisions so you know I I want the conference champions in there I want a group of five at least one and as it turned out we got to I'm fine with that now here's what's going to happen this is you can predict this like the sun coming up tomorrow.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: is jam use going to get waxed in Eugene and to lane has already been waxed once by Mississippi and will probably be waxed again and there's systems terrible Notre Dame would have given us a better game probably true but one of these days one of those teams is going to win again just the way
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: which a toss state went to a final four and VCU went to a final four and Butler went to a championship game and people are going to say that is awesome.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's what we want.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: We want those teams to have a chance.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: So I hear the arguments.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_01]: I am not in favor of the arguments.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: I got a couple things for you guys here.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: And along along those lines, this actually feeds into it.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think among the the biggest winner in all this is the sport as a whole teams other than the blue bloods because Indiana's number one in the nation and in the playoff, which is ridiculous and half the field has never been in the playoff before.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: Half of the field, Mississippi, Texas Tech, Texas A&M Miami.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: and then JMU and Tulane, and not only that, but Miami's the only team that's actually come close to it.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: They want to title in 2001.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: These teams haven't been anywhere near this.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: So I am saying, I winner is, if you are a mid tier team in one of these power leagues or you are a striver in the American or the mountain west, you can get there.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: You can have your chance.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is good.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: either.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have Brian.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's good.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, who could have predicted, you know, that Indiana fans would be going to the Rose Bowl?
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: They'd be going to the Rose Bowl this year.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_00]: you know how much that matters, how much it matters, to have the first undisputed conference title since World War II ended, you know, like that, that is a big deal for Indiana.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's a big deal that Duke won their first, you know, outright title since the sixties and the first one of any kinds since the 1989.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_00]: So, like,
- 27:38[SPEAKER_00]: This was a great season, and it's great to see a lot of these teams represented.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Texas Tech, they might be the poster boy for this entire moment that you're talking about, Pat, in terms of they've taken advantage of the system, and they have improved their standing, not only in college football in general, in the sport and getting one of those top four seats,
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: but they have spent to broaden their brand.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is going to do wonders.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: We've all seen the Nick Sabin effects, the Flutey effects, whatever you might want to call it, in terms of enrollment, getting students actually turned on your college.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_00]: People are actually going to consider going to love it to go to school nowadays, because they're seeing Texas Tech have this success on the football field.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_00]: And that means a lot in the state of Texas.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: Texas Tech was well behind Texas.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_00]: So if you don't think that it's notable, even the Texas down to Texas A&M to see Texas and Texas Tech,
- 28:26[SPEAKER_00]: or Texas A&M and Texas Tech make the play off over Texas this year in the state of Texas.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_00]: That means a lot in terms of those bragging rights.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_00]: I know the Aggies and Longgorns might have a few back and forth, but especially if A&M is able when that game and gets Miami and move on to the quarter finals,
- 28:41[SPEAKER_00]: They're at the cotton, cotton bowl, you know, this means a whole lot to a lot of these programs and yes, only one of them is going to be happy at the end of the day come mid January down there in Miami, but this this means a lot to a lot of programs and it really does kind of confirm that there's not a whole lot of separation between the very top of the sport and the middle part of the sport.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_00]: That's why we're having these debates about who's that 13th team, who's that 12th team, who's in who's out, that the sport has shrunk and that's a good thing for everybody.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's a good thing because you have hope.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's what the NFL has sold for a long time.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: They've been selling hope about next year.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_00]: Well, nowadays in this airing college football, a lot of teams can sell a lot of hope moving forward in 2026.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_02]: The winners are people who want an expanded playoff.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure we're going to get that now.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_02]: 16.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_02]: Let's hope it's not the 20 plus that 20 pd of the big 10 wants.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_02]: Please know.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_02]: But we're going to get an expanded playoff.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_02]: But here's the thing the people need to realize.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_02]: You go to 16.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_02]: There is going to be a debate about the team that was number 17 to got left out.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_02]: If you go to 24, there's always going to be a debate about number 25.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_02]: That is never going to change.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_02]: Today we're talking about Notre Dame.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_02]: uh, next year or whenever they decide, what do they have till, they're, they push to back to after the national championship correct to make a decision on this, yeah.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_02]: So whenever they decide, let's say they go to 16, we're going to always have this, uh, this situation.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_02]: Another winner are going to be the people who just love bitching about the selection committee.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_02]: I would not have wanted to be on that committee.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_02]: I would not have wanted to be in that room this weekend.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: It was an impossible task, but I will defend the committee because I do think they try to do the right thing.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_02]: And yes, once again, we will have tweaks to the protocol.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_02]: The committee does not come up with the protocol.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_02]: The committee does not come up with the rules.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_02]: They followed what they were given to them by the Management Council, Notre Dame, the University of Presence ADs.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_02]: They did what they were instructed to do.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_02]: Is it clumsy?
- 31:04[SPEAKER_02]: Is it ugly to watch how the sausage is made?
- 31:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_02]: But I still will defend having a committee over a computer system or whatever other alternative you want to throw.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_02]: something Kirk Herb Street said, I'd really be interested to hear what you guys had to say about it.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if you heard him, but he just he said, if we got a 16, let's just rank one through 16.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_02]: However, it turns out, if there are six teams from the big tan that are in there and only two from the SEC and no G5 teams, I'm good with that.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_02]: I want the
- 31:46[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think there's any validity to that idea?
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I think there will be a wave of support for that.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think one thing that's going to come out of having both two lane and James Madison in this, especially if they both get bum rushed, is a push to eliminate the group of five or even further lessen their chances of getting in.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_01]: I see I disagree with Kurt there.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: If you're going to expand the playoff, that's all the more reason to have at least one spot.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: for the group of five teams who can't schedule those games and can't you sure as heck aren't going to go play them there.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you may be able to get north western to come to New Orleans.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_01]: You're not going to get Indiana to go there.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_01]: You're not going to get Michigan.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_01]: You're not going to get Ohio State or Penn State to go play you're there.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: USC or Oregon.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: No sir.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_01]: So if you do, I think we are going to expand
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's all the more reason in my opinion to have at least one guaranteed spot for somebody outside the power conference group.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, and it isn't this the great response.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_00]: If you're your Greg Sanky or you're one of those other commissioners in the room, to Tony PD's idea to have four automatic bids from all these conference.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want SMU to be in the in the playoffs at this point after all the discussion that we've had over them?
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Houston would be making the play off.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: If they were the case, do you want more of those automatic qualifiers when this is the in result right now with James Madison getting in?
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: So like they have a kind of built-in thing if they do want to go to 16.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of those leagues and the big 12 has been very public in terms of going, hey, we want 16 with the 5 automatic qualifiers, the 11 at largest.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: Let's expand it just a little bit, make that cut line a little bit less of a debate and we can go there to 16.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_00]: And this would be this year kind of shaped up certainly for those arguments to come into play right now to where you can say look.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to go down the road with automatic qualifiers, look where it gets you.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_00]: It gets you two of these, you know, James Madison until ain't getting in.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's one thing to have one of those bits.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's another thing to wear the aces, it gets left out.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe that's just a quirk of this season, which let's face it it probably is.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: When Duke even makes the acc championship game.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_00]: But it does kind of underscore that there are some downsides.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_00]: If you're going to push for those automatic qualifiers, and maybe just maybe Tony Petit will actually start listening to some of his peers when they bring that up.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'll believe it when I see and hear it.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: One of the things where I'm going to get you guys thoughts just on a couple of the matchups here.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_01]: But first of all, winners and losers, I got to put Texas on the list of losers.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_01]: Started the season number one, watching their two biggest rivals go to the playoff that they're not in in Texas.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: A&M and in Oklahoma.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: and a little brother forever, Texas Tech is in.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: But to give this to the state of Texas, five different schools have now made the playoff in the last four playoffs.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_01]: You got SMU and Texas last year, Texas A&M Texas Tech this year in TCU, which made the championship game.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: Love their football down there, it's Brian's home state and they are representing when it comes to making the playoff.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I like that.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, um, first round games guys, uh, Gina last few first which game most interests you.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_02]: Well, first of all, we have two rematches, right?
- 35:04[SPEAKER_02]: And if Notre Dame had made it, we would have had a third, right?
- 35:08[SPEAKER_02]: They would have played ANM.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_02]: So, um, jam you at Oregon.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, this is going to be such a tough, tough game for jam you.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_02]: uh... ban uh... you re-match clean on this i i guess my amy a text and am is probably the most intriguing to me because now my amy you okay you want it in you're in what will come to you land have fun there
- 35:36[SPEAKER_02]: let's see what you do.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_02]: If Miami wins that game, they shut up every critic who said they didn't belong in their Notre Dame dude.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that's a really intriguing game.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_02]: And to a lesser extent, Bama O'You could be really interesting too.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_02]: What's Bama going to look like?
- 35:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I mentioned these injuries earlier in the podcast, where are they going to be with those guys?
- 36:04[SPEAKER_02]: So questions about OU, questions about Bama, but if I have to choose one first round, Miami at A&M is really an intriguing game to make.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm right there with you.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, just the matchup itself, you know, if you look on the field with those two teams, the offensive and defensive lines going at it, you know, you got Carson Beck, you know, playing Marcel Reed and whoever quarterback, you know, steps up or has some couple of turnovers.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure the narrative will go and.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_00]: to overdrive over whoever does that.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, there's skill position talent all over the board with those two teams.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like there's going, that's going to be a heavy hitter up front in the trenches.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: And then the whoever makes the biggest play in the game.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_00]: And they have, you know, Mario Craver, Casey's a conception for the Aggies.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: You got baby Jesus over there for Miami, who's this could be his kind of really national coming out party for the hurricanes there.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_00]: There's a interesting coaching matchup between, you know, especially with Mario Crystal while sneaking in and all the polyticking that he did, he's going to be fired up to win that one.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be an electric atmosphere.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_00]: Even though it's going to be the 11-ame kick there on Saturday in the first round, I would imagine the 100,000, they're going to be fired up there in college station.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's definitely the best game of them all and the best matchup.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, January 2 to your point like it is in train to see what we're going to get out of
- 37:22[SPEAKER_00]: and Alabama that now pat you got their their talking points as well for the crimson tie one of the big sections that they had there that they sent along to the committee was hey we're gonna get healthy we're gonna get a lot more guys back
- 37:34[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully they're going to get Jam Miller in particular in the run game.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_00]: That was a big issue that they had kind of in that first matchup.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it's going to be a pretty intriguing game, especially because you can definitely see them matching up well with that Oklahoma defense in particular, going out to the Roseball play in Indiana.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_00]: We saw what Ohio State was able to do with their front seven and to confuse Fernando Mendoza a little bit, shut down that run game a little bit more.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_00]: So I think both games are the clear top tier and then you can get to the other games.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_00]: I involved in the group of five after that.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I am with you on Miami and Texas A&M and I obviously I've intrigued for Alabama and Oklahoma again, although I didn't think that game was very fun the first time they played.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm going to hold out some hope as well for two-lane Ole Miss.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_01]: Just I want to see where Ole Miss has had is.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: without Lane Kiffin and some other coaches and, you know, two lanes in transition to John Summerals leaving but he's coaching the game.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_01]: That was not a close game the first time around.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_01]: I expect it to be significantly closer this time.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to be my points, right?
- 38:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think so.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_01]: But again, I think that I anticipate that being a closer match up this time around,
- 38:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and can you can you imagine I'm not saying I have no idea.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_02]: Haven't really looked at it yet, but let's say Bama beat Oklahoma, a Bama Indiana game.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, that's my next question, guys, which quarter final?
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: Give me your ideal quarter final matchup.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_01]: What is it and where?
- 39:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's a tough one.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I would say generally maybe Miami, Ohio State might be the most interesting, you know, and just in terms of the actual teams themselves, what both programs have spent on their roster, the two head coaches, that would be involved in that one.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_00]: That would be the one that I would kind of circle there, at least in the corner front.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_00]: You can go wrong with the Rose Bowl, of course, with either of those two matchups, you know, against Indiana, but I think most intriguing to me might be Oregon, Texas Tech.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you got two very good offenses, two defenses that are, you know, I think if you haven't seen them up close in person or you haven't seen them a lot this season, you know, you're going to say wow, these are two really good defenses a lot of talent on the board and that wouldn't like that could be one of those classic games that we end up seeing that comes down to the wire just both teams trading blows here and they're like I could see that be in the best quarter final.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_00]: no matter where it's played.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_02]: What do you think, Pat?
- 40:17[SPEAKER_01]: I like that game a lot for sure, but I just I'm fascinated by the possibility of just just first of all, in the end, and the Rose Bowl against an SEC team, and especially with Salabama, because you are talking the bluest of blue bloods and the least blue blooded team ever.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_01]: And so I want to see that and
- 40:37[SPEAKER_01]: Signetti did time it I think you know I the more I watch him the more he just the years with saving I think influenced him and how he acts and reacts to things I mean it was so fascinating in Lucas oil stadium Saturday night his complete lack of reaction when they won and when he was interviewed on the field afterwards you know as I asked this great
- 41:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm happy for these people, these people, these people.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_01]: Now I've got three weeks to get these guys humbled and hungry.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody's like, you know, gel clad, you're going to be ranked number one.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't mean anything if we don't finish.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, just the narrow focus, like we are not here to party, man.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_01]: We are here to keep winning.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_01]: So the saving factor there is immense.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm all in on the Indian story.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's just fascinating.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_02]: You're right.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, seriously, when we look back on this,
- 41:32[SPEAKER_02]: This was the most amazing transformation of a program we've ever seen.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure I can figure out a comparison.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_02]: I think Reese mentioned Bill Snyder at K-State, but K-State never did this.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_02]: And so it's a fair comparison up to a point.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'm with you.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_02]: The Indiana subplot, but all is fascinating.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_02]: Signetti, he always kind of has like that little bit of a sneer on his face.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, he'd rather be doing 10,000 other things and talking to you about him.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_02]: and I appreciate that.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_02]: So his team reflects who he is and I love watching that.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_02]: And so yes, I don't know who's going to win that OU Bama game, but if it is Bama, wow, what a cool thing,
- 42:33[SPEAKER_02]: could be epic for all the reasons you mentioned.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_02]: And another thing I'd point out, it's obvious, these teams, all these teams just about are beat to hell by now.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_02]: And you could see the relief
- 42:48[SPEAKER_02]: in Kirby Smart's face that he gets a chance to finally get some of his players healthy or healthier.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, I don't think we talk enough about what these teams go through to get to this point and what they still have to face.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, that's, this is a month-long playoff.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_01]: It starts on December 19th and ends on January 19th.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_01]: There's a long way to go.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody's going to play three or four more games, you know, by the time this whole thing is done.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: So, and it is, it is our hard grind to get this far.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_01]: And you saw, I mean, man, those guys were a hit in each other in the big ten final.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: They were hit in each other in the SEC final.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_01]: They were hit in each other in Texas Tech Baylor.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_02]: So.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, yes, I hope they enjoy the whirlpool and some some PT and everything for a few weeks and get ready to go again.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_01]: All right, before we go, we have to, we got to pick a champion.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's got to tell me who you think is going to win, Brian.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_01]: Fisher, you, you've won the picks, I believe.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think you were, you were trumpeting yourself on Twitter for that.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_01]: You there will be no trophy.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_01]: You may get a stay dinner.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_01]: You're not getting a trophy, but
- 43:58[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, congrats.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: Are we doing crime one to 12 when we get to Miami pad?
- 44:02[SPEAKER_00]: Is that, yeah, is there a driver, you're, you're coming in last.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_00]: You might be coming in last.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, well, well, we'll go to the judges of that one.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_02]: It might be a jersey Mike Stake sandwich.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know, right.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_01]: They're there, there are many varieties of stake out there.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think anything was specified.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_02]: Was it before the sea?
- 44:21[SPEAKER_01]: My knowledge just stake nothing.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_01]: It might be up to whoever's paying the most money decides
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, Brian Tellis, who's going to win the national championship?
- 44:33[SPEAKER_00]: I still got Ohio State, you know, I think that was kind of my pick for the last couple of weeks, last couple of months really since seeing them up close in person, and then that opener against Texas.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_00]: And look, I think, you know, you talked about going back to last year.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_00]: They lost 13 to 10 in their last game before the playoffs.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_00]: Man did they use that as motivation going in.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to do the same this year.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_00]: If you're talking about pure talent, if you're talking about been there, done that.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_00]: Ryan Day has done that.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think this is the budding dynasty there in Columbus, especially given how a lot of those young faces are going to be back for next year.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_00]: So this is a big time run for Ohio State.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think they do end up getting it done and you know what they they're going to earn it.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to have the more difficult path if they do end up going all the way to the championship game because you're going to end up playing.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_00]: pretty good Miami or Texas A&M team.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to be ended up playing likely Georgia, you know, in one of the semi-finals, possibly in that peach bowl, which is I'm sure might invoke some interesting memories for a lot of buck ice fans out there and then you're probably going to end up facing either Indiana, which we just saw how close that game was in the Big Tin title game, or maybe a Texas Tech in Oregon, certainly teams that have spent well on their roster too.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_00]: So if all I have state goes through this run and I think they are capable of it.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_00]: Especially if they take the shackles off, Julie and CNN after kind of putting them back on there at Lucas oil on Saturday.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think go high so you get to done.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_02]: Go ahead, pal.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_01]: This is all right.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_01]: Here's what I'm saying.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_02]: Just do it.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_02]: Go ahead.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to be I'm going to start all over the map.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to see there's five teams.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think can win it.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_01]: Top five seats.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think they can all win the national championship.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think Georgia Ohio State sets up to be the slobber knocker of all slobber knocker semi-finals.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_01]: And the winner of that could very well win the championship except
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: guys have got to respect Indiana.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not hearing enough respect for Indiana.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm picking Indiana to win the national championship.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_01]: I have seen too much.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen it in person.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_01]: I saw it in Austin Stadium.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_01]: I saw it again in Lucas oil stadium.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_01]: I saw Indiana.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: Hotel House State to 58 yards rushing.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_01]: I saw him confused Julian Sane, I saw him sack him more than he'd been sacked.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_01]: And then I saw him make big plays.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_01]: And they've got guys that can make big plays.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_01]: This wasn't lucky.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, high state Mr. Fibre was sold in Indiana.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_01]: Indiana outgained them.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_01]: I thought Indiana outplayed him.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_01]: It was very close, but I think Indiana is deservedly the number one team.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm picking the Hoosiers to go 16 and up.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_02]: at a boy football.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_02]: I knew you'd do that.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so happy that you did so I don't have to.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm with you.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing whatever Indiana does will not surprise me anymore.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to take Georgia and I agree with you.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_02]: That Georgia, if it turns out it's a
- 47:44[SPEAKER_02]: And but I've said it all along Georgia is a team that will not die and if you don't you don't get them early.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_02]: they don't go away and they are tough and they are physical and they've got a really clever quarterback and their defense has gotten better and I'm not saying they're the antidote to Indiana.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_02]: If you've got an Indiana Georgia championship game but I think Georgia is built to win a national championship.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_02]: So I'll take Georgia partly because that way we each have a different team.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_01]: There you go, one team for each of us.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I could make a case for all three of them.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_01]: So that's good.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_01]: I cannot make any case for my overall performance and our picks this year.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_01]: But all right, that's our show, kind of a quick recap here, quick reaction to the playoff.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_01]: Hope you guys enjoy it.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for listening.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be back again.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_01]: I believe on Thursday with a regularly scheduled show,
- 48:47[SPEAKER_01]: We'll preview the Heisman and we'll talk about who knows what the heck sort of chaos is going on get into a little more of the playoff matchups Maybe some other bowl matchups as well.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_01]: So plenty still to talk about Thanks for listening to others receiving votes.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk to you later
