- 0:09The station where our veterans voices are heard or our veteran
- 0:12MVR talk. Hey, thanks for supporting our
- 0:15channel by watching and listening our channel by
- 0:18watching. Good morning and welcome to the
- 0:26show. It's Red Friday.
- 0:27Remember everyone deployed, We hope you wore red today.
- 0:31Thank you for joining us and supporting our troops.
- 0:32We begin on the tracks, rails stretching beyond the horizon,
- 0:37stretching each tie a memory, each rail a promise of where we
- 0:41might go. In the early years, our first
- 0:45logo appeared, a pioneer stepping onto the platform of
- 0:49possibility. Through seasons of growth,
- 0:53change and challenge, we moved forward.
- 0:56The whistle of opportunity sounded and we boarded the train
- 1:00of time. The view changed with every
- 1:04mile, some stations brief, others lasting.
- 1:08Our logos changed too, not just emblems, but mile markers of
- 1:13evolution. Along the way, seats filled with
- 1:16teammates, mentors, veterans and friends.
- 1:20Some stayed for the ride, others stepped off, leaving their
- 1:24legacy on the rails behind us. And still, the journey
- 1:28continues. The tracks ahead stretch into
- 1:31the unknown, familiar yet full of new promise.
- 1:35What matters most is how we travel with purpose, with grit,
- 1:40with heart. Because the journey matters.
- 1:43The movement matters, and the legacy of those logos, every
- 1:48year, every show, lives on in the rhythm of these rails.
- 1:52So here we are once again, all aboard.
- 1:55The whistle blows, the tracks call together.
- 1:59We ride. We are the H train show showing
- 2:03veterans programs beyond the VA since 2015.
- 2:08Since 2015. freedom fighters, some fighters.
- 5:02Ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, if you didn't already
- 5:05know you have injured, I can't even say like dog pound or
- 5:11anything. You know it.
- 5:12I wouldn't say like, you know something big, but you know, all
- 5:16we can say is welcome to the veteran voice and studios here
- 5:21in Westminster right after you work.
- 5:23Simple building and boy, do we have a show for you.
- 5:29Let me turn, let me turn down one of my screens here.
- 5:32I got like 5 or 6 screens, you know?
- 5:35No, nothing. Nothing.
- 5:37Not big, nothing big. It is maxing.
- 5:39Yeah. What?
- 5:41Your screen maxing. Right, 5 minutes past the hour
- 5:45and the first thing that we're going to bring up is, ladies and
- 5:49gentlemen, it is your Thrive minutes.
- 5:52Thrive handles the numbers. Thrive handles the numbers so we
- 5:56can focus on the mission. From all of us at MBR, thank you
- 6:01Thrive. Now, you know, believe it or
- 6:05not, everybody running a nonprofit is a pain in the butt,
- 6:11right? Running a business is a pain in
- 6:14the butt. So you don't want to worry about
- 6:16numbers. You don't want to worry about,
- 6:18hey, you know, are you being charged too much?
- 6:20No, you want somebody that has your back, that has your 6.
- 6:25So whatever you do, if you're in, if you're searching for a
- 6:32good bookkeeping system, think about Thrive.
- 6:35They've been doing our books for the last three years and we
- 6:39haven't got an audit yet. So I didn't have pretty good
- 6:43right, even though my wife's really good at taxes.
- 6:46OK, so check this out ladies and gentlemen, we have Valor house
- 6:51requests. OK, so that means that the
- 6:53number is 55. We are doing the Christmas
- 6:57baskets for Valor again this year.
- 7:00And if, if you're just joining us now, I'm, I'm, I'm sorry I
- 7:05didn't introduce myself. My name's H Train and our only
- 7:09mission here is to show our veterans and our first
- 7:13responders and our men and women in uniform all over the world
- 7:18all the programs that are out there be on the VA.
- 7:21So welcome. Thank you for choosing us this
- 7:25morning and drinking your coffee with us.
- 7:28We appreciate it. All right, now back to this
- 7:30stuff. Now we are doing this valor
- 7:33thing Christmas and we've been doing this for almost like 9
- 7:37years. And of course, HG is behind the
- 7:39screen. Thank he's, he's my sound guy.
- 7:43I appreciate it. So we the number is 55.
- 7:47OK, we need, we need anything 55.
- 7:51But here's a strange request. The swag and stuff that you
- 7:55send, I want, I want the nonprofits logos and stuff on it
- 7:59so that when they get these backpacks, we're doing
- 8:02backpacks. When we do these backpacks,
- 8:05well, they have resources to utilize once they get out.
- 8:09That's that's the reason, OK. And the number is 5555 baskets
- 8:16is what we need. Well, we, we got the basket, but
- 8:20you know what I mean. So #55 so if you want to help us
- 8:24out, you can send that to either the MBR address or the admin
- 8:30building address. Message us and we'll get that
- 8:33for you. OK, So let's let's do that now.
- 8:38Hey, it's cold outside isn't it? Well check this out.
- 8:43What makes a perfect drink for out cold hot cocoa, right?
- 8:50Well check this out Saturday. This Saturday here in
- 8:54Westminster, the Westie Fest. It is on One O 455 N Sheridan
- 9:00Blvd. Come they're going to have a
- 9:03bunch of crafts. They're going to have a bunch of
- 9:05hot cocoa and it looks like from what I saw in the picture, hot
- 9:09air balloons. So you might want to check it
- 9:12out. Come over and check out the
- 9:16weekly fest. Tuesday, October 27th.
- 9:20I will be demonstrating the 3D printer, the 3D printer that we
- 9:25have here at MBR that we show veterans how to create and how
- 9:32to make. So I'll be, I'll be
- 9:36demonstrating that at the Rotary Club there in Broomfield.
- 9:40The presentation that is like I said, October 27th, November
- 9:4614th, hey everybody, it, it's getting ready to be veteran's
- 9:50day just around the corner. I know, I know Halloween hits
- 9:54before, but still it's veteran's day.
- 9:57We'll have a list of all the the free things, the complimentary
- 10:02things that they're giving out to our veterans and 1st
- 10:04responders. We'll be doing that.
- 10:06But that is November 14th, Denver Veteran Day Run Parade
- 10:12festival in Denver and it starts tentatively at 10:30 AM and
- 10:17that's in the Seeley Park. Timothy Hendrix, what's up,
- 10:22brother? Rob Bento Arvindo, what's up?
- 10:25How are you? Good morning, good morning.
- 10:28And then last but not least, Thursday, December 10th, this
- 10:32was just added to the Box and Broomfield Rotary at the Alotta
- 10:38Hotel. 3D printing demonstration is planned and final details are
- 10:45still pending. But those are just the community
- 10:50stuff that we're going to be that's happening in in around
- 10:55the area. All right, today's showdown
- 10:58showdown show rundown. Today's soldier spotlight is
- 11:02Lance Corporal Joshua Aikman. Gosh, I can't remember any top
- 11:08story is the whole streaming thing with the execution.
- 11:14We're going to get into it, we're going to talk about it.
- 11:18That's the top story. They cancelled it, but we're
- 11:21going to talk about it. Then we have a 5 minute sports
- 11:25snapshot from HG that he's going to report after the top story
- 11:30and we're going to go on break. And then once we come off of
- 11:33break, then we'll be getting into the what the segment, what
- 11:38the segment A coach, we got fired after winning a game at
- 11:4363. Nothing.
- 11:44We're going to tell you the back story.
- 11:46We're going to get into it. Drop the date when service
- 11:50becomes a family story. More, more, more to tell when
- 11:57when we bring that up. And then the interview is Jesse
- 12:01Cook. She will be here at 11:00 AM
- 12:04Eastern Standard Time for the interview.
- 12:06She's a Marine mother. We might even get a chance to
- 12:10have her Marine call in on the the total talk text line.
- 12:16All right, so the interview now, the tribute to the troupe is
- 12:21Major Bianca AC Werkerson. I'm sure I butchered that story.
- 12:26Behind it is the helmet that saved 2 Marines.
- 12:31That's going to be fantastic. And then final thoughts.
- 12:36We'll, we'll, we'll tell you who we're having that next Friday,
- 12:40which right now as it stands, unless something happens, we
- 12:45might be off next Friday. HG So because we, I, I've sent
- 12:50already out some fillers and I haven't get gotten anything in
- 12:54return yet. So, but it is that time, ladies
- 12:57and gentlemen, it is the soldier spotlight time.
- 13:09Attention. Mail call.
- 13:09Oh my God. Welcome to Mail.
- 13:14Welcome to Mail, Call your Soldier, Spotlight all.
- 13:19Right. Good morning.
- 13:20Good morning, everybody. On TikTok.
- 13:22I was trying to, I was trying to write Beretta.
- 13:25Good morning, Beretta. It's great seeing you here.
- 13:29Let's see anybody else? No, not yet.
- 13:31Everybody's still still, still waking up.
- 13:34Still waking up. We got everybody on TikTok.
- 13:37We got everybody on Twitter. It's a great morning to be
- 13:40alive. Ladies and gentlemen, today's
- 13:45spotlight is this week's Marine Lands Corporal Joshua Aikman.
- 13:50He was a Rifleman with the Guard Company in Marine Barracks,
- 13:54Washington, DC on September 3rd, 2026.
- 13:58He received the Navy and the Marine Corps Achievement Medal
- 14:02alongside with four teammates. The Marine Corps published it an
- 14:08account the following day, making this recent recognition
- 14:12for Friday's show. According to the official
- 14:15reports, an armed individual pointed a weapon towards a guard
- 14:19post outside the installation. Aikman and his teammates
- 14:24responded, communicated and gained control of the situation.
- 14:28The report credits the team with protecting the barracks and the
- 14:32surrounding community. It emphasizes discipline, action
- 14:36and composure rather than dramatic individual heroics.
- 14:40The other recognized Marines were Lance Corporal Anthony
- 14:44Verdescagou, Kaden Phillips and Logan Carpenter, and Corporal
- 14:51Ian Cloudy. Colonel Jason C Copeland, the
- 14:55barracks commanding officer, presented their medals.
- 14:59Aikman explained that the Marines relied on their
- 15:02training, understood their responsibilities and trusted one
- 15:07another. Their aim was to control the
- 15:09situation without anyone getting hurt.
- 15:13And, you know, there is a family detail here that makes this
- 15:17spotlight especially appropriate for today's, you know, Jesse
- 15:22Cooks appearance. Aikman's father Kevin and Step
- 15:29mother Rhonda travelled from Louisiana for this ceremony.
- 15:34The official member achievement being shared with people who
- 15:38support him. The lesson of our discussion And
- 15:42that readiness involves more than reacting quickly.
- 15:45A team also needs people who can listen, communicate and make
- 15:49decisions under pressure. Speed without judgement can
- 15:53create additional problems. This recognition offers an
- 15:57example of the Marine Corps honoring control and teamwork as
- 16:04well as action. It also invites us to notice
- 16:08service performed outside the combat deployment.
- 16:11Guard duty can appear routine to somebody passing by.
- 16:16The responsibility becomes visible when a threat interrupts
- 16:19that routine. For listeners, that is a reason
- 16:23to appreciate the people maintaining security even when
- 16:27their work rarely receives public attention.
- 16:29For family side of the conversation, we for, you know.
- 16:36For Jesse's own words, you know our salute.
- 16:41Our salute goes to Lanes, Corporal Joshua Aikman and all
- 16:44four of the Marines recognized with him.
- 16:47Their story gives the segment A practical message.
- 16:50Preparation matters, teammates matter, and steady judgement
- 16:55matters. The award ceremony also reminds
- 16:58us to acknowledge the family members who stand beside those
- 17:02who serve. And with that, like the final
- 17:05moments of the story, I want to relay and reiterate this to
- 17:10everybody, you know, And sometimes us as veterans, as
- 17:15soldiers, we, we forget about this.
- 17:17You know, everybody likes attention, right?
- 17:20Everybody comes up to you, says thank you for your service.
- 17:25We do not thank the the children and the wives and the
- 17:30girlfriends and the fiancees that are behind that military
- 17:37individual. We really need to do a better
- 17:40job of saying thank you for your service.
- 17:45Why why don't we do that? I know that I don't do it all
- 17:49the time, but we need to because that's a lot of stress.
- 17:54Think about that. Somebody's saying thank you all
- 17:57the time, all the time, and they don't even acknowledge you.
- 18:02You know, it's almost like Taylor Swift's dad, you know,
- 18:05I'm sure that he doesn't get acknowledged other than her,
- 18:08right? So think about that.
- 18:10It's just something to chew on and to think I can do next
- 18:15Friday. There you go.
- 18:17All right, so check this out. It is that time, ladies and
- 18:20gentlemen, it is the top story. Welcome back to our weekly news
- 18:23broadcast. I'm your host and we have some
- 18:25massive updates today. Let's dive right into our top
- 18:29story. All right, so check this out.
- 18:34The reason why I brought this top story about is because Magic
- 18:38Mike yesterday he talked about the situation with the Hassan
- 18:45execution. Should you get to watch it?
- 18:48All right, so 13 dead at Fort Hood, TX, November of 2009, Army
- 18:57Major and Naidal Hassan, a psychiatrist, a field grade art
- 19:02officer who pulled out a gun and opened fire on his own people.
- 19:0713 killed, more than 13 wounded. He said that he did it in the
- 19:13name of jihad. I don't even know if I pronounce
- 19:16it a don't matter. In 2013, a court martial found
- 19:20him guilty on 42 counts and sentenced him to death.
- 19:26Now, 17 years later, that sentence is about to be carried
- 19:32out. December 3rd at 1:00 in Fort
- 19:35Hood by firing squad. It would be the first US
- 19:40military execution since 1961. And now there's a national fight
- 19:46over one question, should you get to watch it happen on the
- 19:53live stream? Now the secretary of war has
- 19:56floated that's broadcasting. It says it would show the
- 20:00consequences of terrorism. On the other side, 72 retired
- 20:07general Admirals and military lawyers signed on an open letter
- 20:11calling that. This idea is barbaric abuse of
- 20:18authority, urging the president and Congress to shut it down.
- 20:24Here's where I land. OK, you've heard Magic Mike talk
- 20:29about it yesterday. The punishment fits.
- 20:35OK? Nobody disputes that at all, all
- 20:39right? But understand who this man is.
- 20:47He did this in the name of jihad.
- 20:54You do not deter a man seeking martyrdom by televising his
- 21:04martyrdom. All the broadcast does is hand
- 21:11him the stage that he wanted in the first place.
- 21:17And here's what our own Magic Mike said.
- 21:21He's right. Everybody knows his son's name.
- 21:25Nobody can name a single one of the 13.
- 21:32Before they carry out that sentence, read every victim's
- 21:36name out loud. That's the broadcast that
- 21:41matters. You know, I'm just being a
- 21:47devil's advocate, you know, because, like, look on the other
- 21:50side. Deterrence supporters say a
- 21:54public execution shows terrorists the prime price of
- 21:58attacking American in uniform transparency.
- 22:03After 17 years of public trial and appeals, some argue that the
- 22:06public has a right to see justice finished.
- 22:11The family, some victims families can't travel to Fort
- 22:14Hood. A feed would let them witness
- 22:18it. OK, now facts to keep straight.
- 22:24And then I'm going to ask you, listeners, viewers, what is your
- 22:29thoughts? November 5th, 2009, shooting in
- 22:34Fort Hood, 13 killed, 32 wounded, convicted.
- 22:37August 2013, 42 counts death sentence denied.
- 22:43Review. March 31st, 2025, Trump approved
- 22:47the sentence. October 2nd, 2020, sixth
- 22:51Execution reportedly is December 3rd, 2020, sixth at 1:00 PM
- 22:55Central time, Fort Hood by firearms squad.
- 22:58These are the things that we know and now a little bit back
- 23:04story that maybe people don't know is that this guy Hassan,
- 23:09well, he's paralyzed now from the waist down.
- 23:11When military police returned fire during the attacks they,
- 23:15they, they, they hit a spine. So Magic Mike's personal note,
- 23:22Hassan was his doctor at Walter Reed and told him PTSD is not
- 23:27real usually, if you, you know, think that, right?
- 23:34I don't know how many people in this world think that PTSD is
- 23:38not real, but it is. It is totally real.
- 23:43It's as real as a Holocaust. And you know, that's the only
- 23:48thing that I see. So when you see all these
- 23:52shootings at schools and, and, and all this different stuff,
- 23:58that's people that have been bullied as people that, you
- 24:02know, they want to get their point across and they're going
- 24:06to do anything and everything to get their point across because
- 24:09they are going to have the last word.
- 24:11Well, in this instance, why give that to him?
- 24:16That's what he wants. He wants it live streamed.
- 24:19He wants his name in the encyclopedia.
- 24:22He wants his name in the dictionary.
- 24:24He is a candidate for Criminal Minds, but we need to stop doing
- 24:33that. News media too.
- 24:36You want to stream something? Stream a tribute to troops for
- 24:42those 13 that was killed. That's what you stream.
- 24:48We don't need to be barbaric like other countries, because
- 24:52that's what other countries do. You know, the US, yes, I guess
- 24:57we are the international police. But you know what?
- 25:02There's a difference between US and some people. the US has
- 25:05character. the US has maturity. the US has freedom to be able to
- 25:13understand. I think the true mark of showing
- 25:20that we have freedom to not live stream the execution, but to
- 25:27live stream the people that died, that that is what we want
- 25:36to do. And with that, everybody, we are
- 25:39going to go to the sports report HG.
- 25:45I'm Beaker and we have got a massive show for you tonight.
- 25:48From the gridiron to the diamond, we are covering the
- 25:50biggest plays and wildest moments, so let's get right to
- 25:53the action. All right, ladies and gentlemen,
- 25:58we got our sports snapshot. We're going to start with the
- 26:03MLB post season is almost over. It's been a great one so far.
- 26:10The Guardians have just claimed a three to two or A2, the one
- 26:15series lead after a three to two victory over the Rays yesterday.
- 26:20Gavin Williams was fantastic through 5 innings in this
- 26:24series. Game one, the bats were really
- 26:27flying back and forth. But games two and three, it's
- 26:31really come down to the pitching and the infield defense has been
- 26:38the difference maker. And those on the flip side, on
- 26:42the National League, the Brewers get the revenge and complete the
- 26:46sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
- 26:50Just last year, they were swept by the Dodgers in the NLCS.
- 26:54They meet them again, they come back, they get the revenge.
- 26:59And what's kind of crazy is if America had universal
- 27:05healthcare, the guy that terrorized LA in this series
- 27:11might not have even been playing baseball.
- 27:12That's probably one of the biggest stories of this
- 27:16postseason. Jake Bowers was absolutely
- 27:19phenomenal. He was the NOCSNVP was
- 27:24monumental in game three about getting Yoshi Yamamoto pulled
- 27:28from the game in just the third, ending with going 12 pitches,
- 27:33taking 12 pitches on an at bat, and then the next game taking 11
- 27:37pitches and then at bat against Blake Snow.
- 27:40He had a Homer last night in game four to help tie the game
- 27:47and he was going to retire from baseball, but his wife got
- 27:50pregnant and he still needed health insurance.
- 27:53So he signed to the minor league team and here he is being a
- 27:58monumental piece and getting the Brewers to the World Series.
- 28:04We've got the WNBA Finals, those are going to start this
- 28:08Saturday, October 17th. The Atlanta Dream and the Golden
- 28:12State Valkyries squaring off the Valkyries and their second year
- 28:16ever as a franchise making it to the finals and the Dream, their
- 28:20first return since 2013. Some college football news,
- 28:26we've got some massive match ups this Saturday including Indiana
- 28:30and Ohio State, Alabama and Tennessee, Missouri and Old
- 28:36Miss, just to name a few. Notre Dame and BYU.
- 28:39Actually, one more I don't want to make sure I don't leave out
- 28:43as well. So a big day of college football
- 28:47coming up and then some other news in college football.
- 28:49Apparently, the committee has greenlit plans to go to a 2014
- 28:54playoff. Be interested to hear what some
- 28:56of our viewers think. A lot of people not a big fan of
- 29:01the 2014 playoff. Welcome.
- 29:03Enjoy. We feel that it is.
- 29:05Hi, Joy. Joy, Amber.
- 29:07It's just going to what's up, Amber, just going to diminish
- 29:11the regular season. College football had the best
- 29:13regular season in sports. But now with so many teams
- 29:16getting into the playoffs, I mean it, it feels like it really
- 29:20devalues a lot of the stakes and intensity that some of these
- 29:25regular season matchups would have in the in the past.
- 29:30Like now, like a game like Indiana and Ohio State, you
- 29:33know, the team like if Ohio State loses this game this year,
- 29:37that that could be that makes their chance of getting into the
- 29:41CFP that much harder and they could miss it all together.
- 29:44But now with the 2014 playoff, whoever loses this game would
- 29:47just be totally fine. So, but anything to squeak out a
- 29:53little more money, I suppose. The NBA season is just days
- 30:00away. I'll look at ahead.
- 30:03Tuesday is when we're going to get our first regular season
- 30:07games tipping off. We're going to have the Celtics
- 30:10playing the Detroit Pistons, the 76ers taking on the New York
- 30:15Knicks as they defend their title and the rematch of the
- 30:18Western Conference Finals, the OK C budget and the San Antonio
- 30:23Spurs squaring off. And lastly, in NFL news, my
- 30:29Denver Broncos, in spite of a very ugly second-half
- 30:33offensively, eek out a win on Thursday Night Football against
- 30:38the Seattle Seahawks. Seahawks.
- 30:40The Seahawks have a big turnover problem.
- 30:43They've had multiple turnovers the past three weeks each of
- 30:47their game, and they're really missing Kenneth Walker, who they
- 30:51let walk in free agency, and it really shows with their
- 30:54inability to run the football effective effectively.
- 31:00Zach Allen and Nick Benito proven to be maybe the best pass
- 31:04rushing duo in the league. Those two just absolutely
- 31:07terrifying. Sam Darnold last night, making
- 31:11them see ghosts again. Some big matchups to keep your
- 31:15eye on coming up this Sunday. Obviously Sunday Night Football,
- 31:22we're going to have the Cowboys looking to get back on track
- 31:25against the Green Bay Packers. The Chicago Bears are getting
- 31:33Caleb Williams back as they go to Atlanta to host the Atlanta
- 31:38Falcons. The Eagles desperately need a a
- 31:42win to get back on track, but they're coming off a very hot
- 31:44Carolina Panthers team fresh off a bye week and the Buffalo Bills
- 31:50are in Las Vegas to take on the three and two Raiders.
- 31:54Great there's started 3 and O have lost two straight.
- 31:57Looking to get back on track against a very hot Buffalo team
- 32:02that's going to do it for our sports.
- 32:03Snapshot back to U. H Thanks, GHG.
- 32:07All right, this is that time we're going to go on a music
- 32:11music break. And hey, I tell you what, Tim,
- 32:15we we we we got a we got a we got a talk.
- 32:17I didn't know that you went to University of Tennessee for a
- 32:20year. We we won't talk about that.
- 32:23I didn't go anywhere. But your dad played for Alabama.
- 32:25That's exciting. That's that's kind of cool.
- 32:28We'll have to talk about that for everybody else.
- 32:30Me will be back. And when we come back, one of
- 32:34the top stories that we're going to talk about for the what the
- 32:36segment is what do you do when a coach runs up the score on
- 32:43another team? Do you fire him or do you bring
- 32:48him orange slices at halftime? You'll find out next or on the
- 32:53Ace Tron H train show showing programs out there beyond the VA
- 32:57right here on MBR. Stay with us.
- 37:35The station where our veterans voices are heard.
- 37:38MBR talk. Hey, thanks for supporting our
- 37:41channel by watching and listening.
- 37:52All right. And we are back, ladies and
- 37:54gentlemen, we are back. And you were listening to the
- 37:57show that highlights all the nonprofit programs out there at
- 38:00the other BA and listen to the HA shield here on MBR.
- 38:04And just to answer some of these questions, I'm beginning, did
- 38:08did Joel kick Amber off the show?
- 38:10No, no, every night Amber had a lot of stuff going on.
- 38:16As you know, my, my, my Co host Amber, her, her husband had a
- 38:23surgery on his brain a couple months ago and he's been, he's
- 38:30been dealing with some health issues.
- 38:32And I felt, I felt it was more important for her to be there at
- 38:39the home front rather than being here.
- 38:42Here at MBR, we have a lot of, we have a lot of veterans that
- 38:45we help and we have a lot of DJs and a lot of hoax.
- 38:48And I, I don't, I, I, I don't show favoritism, at least I try
- 38:56not to, to any of them. If there's a job presented to
- 39:01them, if there's a job presented to them, I always recommend them
- 39:07that they, they take it. OK, This, this is, this is a
- 39:12home place. This is somewhere that you come
- 39:15when you're down on your luck and you know, you're, you can't
- 39:19find a job out there because at least that you can say, Hey, you
- 39:22know what? I work for MBR kind of thing.
- 39:25Oh, don't be sorry, Joy. You didn't know, Hun.
- 39:28And I hope, Joy, that you got your shirt because I, I was
- 39:34really worried about that. You need to take a picture of it
- 39:37and send it to me. But the, the, the fact of the
- 39:41matter is here at NBR, family comes first.
- 39:44Family always comes first. There's a death in the family.
- 39:48You know what? You need to focus on it.
- 39:50You don't need to focus on show. I learned that the hard way when
- 39:54I was skiing a long, long time ago, back when the dinosaurs was
- 39:59around. You know, my mother had passed
- 40:02away and I tried to ski even after that.
- 40:06And I, I hurt myself. I, I injured myself because I
- 40:10wasn't paying attention no matter what.
- 40:14And I had a colleague come up to me about this a couple of days
- 40:19ago. Whenever somebody's mad or upset
- 40:24or irritated, if you're really a friend, don't let them get
- 40:28behind the wheel. Don't let them get behind the
- 40:31wheel when they're upset. You wouldn't let them get behind
- 40:33the wheel if they were drinking. Don't let them get behind the
- 40:36wheel if they're upset, try to calm them down.
- 40:40Or if you're the driver, you know, take responsibility and
- 40:44know, hey, look, you know, I'm really mad.
- 40:47I need to calm down. Go, go for a walk, walk down to
- 40:50the stop sign or something. You know, it's very important
- 40:54when something's going awry, you stay at the forefront that the
- 41:00forefront is what needs you. And guess what?
- 41:03MB, RMBR will be here tomorrow. It's been here tomorrow since
- 41:082005. That's what I tell everybody.
- 41:11And. And joy.
- 41:17No, but I'll check the mail today if the wind doesn't blow
- 41:20me away. You know, my wife is like that.
- 41:24She'll wait a month to check the mail.
- 41:27I have to check the mail every day.
- 41:28Anyways, back to the story, ladies and gentlemen.
- 41:31It is that time. It is the what?
- 41:33The segment. What the WTF?
- 41:39This is going completely off the rails strain.
- 41:42Help me out here. Check this out.
- 41:46One of my friends just dangerly brought this up today and you
- 41:52know he has a point. He has a point.
- 41:57HG is going to help me write it. But what if I told you that a
- 42:01high school coach, and of course it's a Christian School, like a
- 42:04private school, right? They fired their coach for
- 42:09running up the score. So now we're going to tell you
- 42:13the rest of the story. HG All.
- 42:17Right then what the So high school football coach wins 63 to
- 42:20nothing and then gets fired? Let's first give you a little
- 42:22back story. So you might want to turn your
- 42:24thing up a little bit, but. All right, so let's give you a
- 42:28little back story. There we go.
- 42:30Meredith's Catholic head football coach Zach Loboy was
- 42:33dismissed after his team defeated Cottage Grove High
- 42:36School 63 to nothing on October 9th.
- 42:40Cottage Grove reportedly only had about 16 players sued up.
- 42:44The game ended at half time. The controversy said they're not
- 42:49simply on the score, but how the game was played, what happened
- 42:53on the field. Meredith's LED 56 to nothing
- 42:57with 147 remaining in the first half and attempted an onside
- 43:02kick. Cottage Grove recovered, but
- 43:04later through an interception, Mayor of the scored again to
- 43:07make it 63 to 0. At halftime, officials and
- 43:11representatives of the schools agreed not to play the
- 43:15second-half. Why was the coach fired?
- 43:18Mayor of this Catholic administrator said that the
- 43:20team's conduct did not reflect the school's mission and
- 43:25expectations for treating opponents.
- 43:28Athletic director Rick Gardner criticized the conduct, and
- 43:33Principal Bob Fraley announced Loboy's dismissal.
- 43:37Important. The school did not publicly
- 43:38confirm that the onside kick was the sole reason for its firing.
- 43:43Its full internal reasoning has not been disclosed.
- 43:47All right, so the twist. Lowboy had LED Meredith's
- 43:52Catholic to the 2024 Oregon class for A state championship.
- 43:57Following his dismissal, Jake Lothar was named interim head
- 44:02coach. We're looking at it from both
- 44:04sides of the argument. Defending the coach.
- 44:07Football's competitive team practice to execute plays and
- 44:12win and scoring is not against the rules.
- 44:15Defending the school, high school athletics should also
- 44:17teach respect and judgement. An onside kick while leading by
- 44:2256 points against an undermanned opponent raises some serious
- 44:26questions about sportsmanship. OK, OK, HG, what is your, what's
- 44:31your hot take on this? Well, I mean, I certainly don't
- 44:37think it's good sportsmanship to be attempting an onside kick and
- 44:43trying to run the score up when you're playing a team that is
- 44:48they've only got 16 guys on the roster.
- 44:51You need at least 22 to have a full.
- 44:54Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
- 44:55Defense so you've got you've got kids that are playing on both
- 44:58sides of the ball and you know they're severely on demand right
- 45:05is. Yeah, you so you got this
- 45:06private school over here that has like a 53 main roster and
- 45:10then you have this school over here, which I I I was, you know,
- 45:16born and raised in Kokomo, IN and we had a school we we, we,
- 45:21we did I was a kicker and I was a Sinner on the line.
- 45:25Now I'm 5 foot nothing 100 nothing.
- 45:29Do you really think I I know I don't really look in the face,
- 45:32but trust me, I'm 100. Nothing does does does it look
- 45:36like I would be good as a lineman?
- 45:38No, because for the fact of the matter is sometimes we're
- 45:44playing football and you just don't have the people.
- 45:49But this, this, this is the thing one time and it's not main
- 45:55camp, but one time when we were playing the school, they had a
- 46:01huge roster, huge roster and they just they weren't very
- 46:07good. They weren't very good and we
- 46:10was running up the score on him Well, then at halftime they
- 46:15brought in a varsity runner. Evidently he was a freshman or
- 46:20something. He wasn't JV, he was varsity.
- 46:26They nearly won. They nearly won.
- 46:30So when people come up to me and they're talking about like, you
- 46:34know, teams running up the score, you know, this isn't
- 46:37peewee league, OK? This isn't little kids.
- 46:40These are these are adults, you know, and if one team takes
- 46:47their practice seriously and does the prep when another coach
- 46:52didn't do the prep work, well then, and he totally deserves to
- 47:01be spotlighted. And plus, you know, it's that
- 47:07whole thing. Who cares who wins it?
- 47:11It's all about playing. And I hate to tell you this, but
- 47:14life doesn't fair. You know when, when, when the,
- 47:18when the electricity bill and the house payment comes and, and
- 47:22you don't have the money. It doesn't matter if you was in
- 47:24the military. It doesn't matter if you was in
- 47:26the police force. It doesn't matter what you did.
- 47:29You know, you could have done 99 things.
- 47:31You could have cured cancer. If you don't have the payment,
- 47:35guess what? You're, you're homeless.
- 47:39You're homeless. So why is it that we're going to
- 47:44worry about what's fair when, when they get out of high school
- 47:52and they find out that life isn't fair?
- 47:55You know, one thing that I learned in the military is
- 47:59things aren't fair. And instead of griping it, the
- 48:02amount of time that you took to gripe.
- 48:05We're we're, we'll say that I don't want to say the B word,
- 48:07but you know what I'm talking about the amount of time that
- 48:09you take to gripe. Well, it's the amount of time
- 48:13that you could have came up with a resolution.
- 48:16You know something? Hey, guess what, coach?
- 48:19If you're getting your butt kicked, put it in the third
- 48:23string. If I could just chat back in cuz
- 48:25I had the second part of what I wanted to say.
- 48:27OK, go ahead. Look, I agree that it's not good
- 48:30sportsmanship because they're on their man.
- 48:32But first of all, this coach, like, firing him over this is
- 48:36stupid, right? The school, because he led you
- 48:38to A state championship. That's not an easy thing to do,
- 48:42right? I also think we're yeah, I mean,
- 48:45like with the sportsmanship thing, you know, or teaching
- 48:50these kids that life isn't fair. That's that's a good point too.
- 48:52But I think we're also missing some context from the story,
- 48:55like we don't know. Like, I mean, I'm not pretty.
- 49:00I know where you're going with this.
- 49:02Can you please let? Me my bad.
- 49:04My bad. I don't exactly know how
- 49:06Oregon's athletic board determines seating and things
- 49:10for the playoffs, for the high school, state playoffs.
- 49:13But do you think like a team's total points 4 could be a big
- 49:17factor to that? So, you know, who knows what
- 49:20other team he maybe they're competing for seating with
- 49:23another school and you're pretty confident, hey, these guys
- 49:26probably we're probably going to have the same record as these
- 49:28guys. Where can we get an edge when it
- 49:31comes to seating? One thing they might look at is
- 49:34strength, the schedule or point total points for margin of
- 49:38victory, that type of thing. And so in situations like that,
- 49:42it can be beneficial to essentially score more.
- 49:45I mean, we see, we even saw this in the NFL where the two teams
- 49:51were basically trying to make the playoffs, I forget what
- 49:54year, but it was like the the Packers and the Panthers
- 49:58sometime in the mid 2000s. And they were both basically
- 50:00they were playing like the worst team in their division, but they
- 50:03both they both needed to win right to get into the playoffs.
- 50:07But then they also had the basically have the higher margin
- 50:11of victory or more points for that would be the determining
- 50:15factor between the tiebreakers. So you saw these two teams
- 50:18running up the score for like, even though the game was well
- 50:22with at hand, each team just kept trying to score to have a
- 50:26bigger margin of victory because they needed to have more points
- 50:29than the other guys to get into the playoffs.
- 50:31So that could be something that's a factor in here as well.
- 50:34And another thing is like, OK, you're playing this undermanned
- 50:37team. Clearly you're a very good
- 50:39school if you're winning 63 to nothing, right?
- 50:41Got these aspirations of playing for another championship.
- 50:45You've you've won one just less, you know, two years ago, right,
- 50:48Trying to get back there. And as a coach, I can see maybe
- 50:53you thinking I can use this as a situation to practice some other
- 50:58things in a live game situation that you might like, you just
- 51:02can't simulate even in in your normal practice.
- 51:06One of those big things is onside kicks.
- 51:09It's really difficult to recover an onside kick and it's tough to
- 51:12practice it. It's, it's just, it's still
- 51:14different practicing an onside kick versus doing it in a live
- 51:19game. So this is a situation where
- 51:21you're essentially getting a live Rep, like a live Rep
- 51:25practice of a difficult operational thing.
- 51:29I get like full speed, so maybe later in the year when you need
- 51:33to recover an onside kick, you've gotten extra practice and
- 51:37your team has that slight edge right over those other teams so.
- 51:42Right. And I don't think.
- 51:44That's things that the school even considered.
- 51:47Maybe I'm way off base. At the no, no, I don't think
- 51:49you're off base at all. But there's one thing that we
- 51:52haven't considered. And then we'll, we'll close this
- 51:55and go drop the date because we're, we're running out of
- 51:57time. But you know, we don't know.
- 52:00We don't know the deep back story.
- 52:03He could be having problems as a teacher.
- 52:06He could be having problems with like the board or some we, we
- 52:11don't know. You know, usually somebody
- 52:15doesn't just get fired for something.
- 52:17OK, usually they don't. Usually there's something either
- 52:21they're lazy or they're not on time.
- 52:24They're not punctual. You know, there's a lot of
- 52:26things. And as a society, one thing that
- 52:29we definitely need to work remember is before we make
- 52:33judgement on one person, we need to let the story revolve because
- 52:38there's always three sides. We've heard his side, but we
- 52:43haven't. We haven't heard the true side
- 52:47yet, we just know what happened. So with that being said, it is
- 52:51now time for drop the date. Today in history.
- 53:02The Gentleman October 16th, 1940.
- 53:06When service becomes a family story, you know this was the day
- 53:11the first registration date for America First peacetime draft
- 53:16more than 16,000,000 young men and women or I should say young
- 53:20men, not women, registered at the United States prepared its
- 53:26defense during World War 2. The day offers a way to discuss
- 53:30military service from 2 perspectives.
- 53:32The person who may be called to serve and the family watching
- 53:36that possibly becomes real. President Frank and Lee
- 53:40Roosevelt addressed by the Nation on radio that day.
- 53:45He described registration as a central part of preparation
- 53:49preparing the country's defense. His speech also put the size of
- 53:54the challenge into perspective. The United States had about 1/2
- 53:58a million officers and men in the Army and National Guard,
- 54:02with some smaller nations had armies numbering in millions.
- 54:07He outlined a program to train approximately 800 thousand
- 54:12additional men during the following year.
- 54:14There is an important distinction in telling the
- 54:17story. Though.
- 54:18Registering was not the same as immediately entering the
- 54:23military October 2nd or October 16th.
- 54:27It was a nationwide registration day, not the day every registrar
- 54:32packed a bag and left home. No, the historical event was the
- 54:37creation of a pooled man who would be considered for service.
- 54:42That distinction keeps the segment accurate while still,
- 54:49you know, explained today's date so the the Smithsonian's
- 54:54National Postal Museum record. Another detail shows National
- 55:00Defense Post and stamps were released on October 16th to
- 55:05coincide with the registration date.
- 55:07Even an ordinary item used to mail a letter became part of the
- 55:13country's preparation. And this was a use.
- 55:19It's a useful image for radio listeners, a major national
- 55:23event showing all the small routines of everyday life.
- 55:27So and, and you know, to the last closing the thing, the
- 55:33family connection for this angle is, you know, we don't know what
- 55:41Marines go through. We don't know what the mother
- 55:46and the son go through. We we think we do.
- 55:51We assume we do. That's the reason why we're
- 55:54going to have Jesse Cook with us today during this week's
- 56:00interview. Because I mean, think about it.
- 56:01You know, you're sleeping peacefully.
- 56:04Your son is in Iraq or Iran or Afghanistan or your daughter for
- 56:09that matter. And you get a call at 2:00 AM.
- 56:14You don't want to answer that call because you have no idea
- 56:18who's going to call you at 2:00 AM, you know, drunk.
- 56:23No, usually it's that call. So bringing her in and talking
- 56:28about what she's had to deal with, that's important.
- 56:35That's important. And you know, one thing that
- 56:40I've learned with with my wife is she does not like the whole
- 56:42military because when I have her, I tell her like regulations
- 56:45or something going on. The first thing she says is,
- 56:48well, that's dumb. Well, it might be dumb.
- 56:51You don't have to agree with it, but that's how it is.
- 56:54That's that's the rules. That's that's regulations.
- 56:59So that is today's Drop the Date ladies and gentlemen.
- 57:04We're going to go on a music break and when we come back,
- 57:07hopefully Jesse will be in studio.
- 57:10So we might do 3 music break or something like that.
- 57:13But whatever you do, stay with us.
- 57:14Don't go away. We got a lot to cover.
- 57:16You'll listen to the 8 Strange show showing veterans programs
- 57:21out there beyond the VA and keep on pushing pro showing what it
- 57:27is to be in a Marine family. Stay with us coming up next.
- 1:05:18The station where our veterans voices are heard.
- 1:05:22MBR talk. Hey, thanks for supporting our
- 1:05:25channel by watching and listening.
- 1:05:35All right, and we your Beckley's gentleman is Red Friday, 5
- 1:05:38minutes past the hour. And ladies and gentlemen, let me
- 1:05:44introduce to you my next guest. Her name is Jesse Cook, a Marine
- 1:05:50mom sitting right here in the studio.
- 1:05:53Next with me. We're going to be we, we might
- 1:05:56be calling her son, but we, we don't know just yet.
- 1:06:01But this is the Marine mother's story because of every behind
- 1:06:07every Marine, there's a family living the service right
- 1:06:11alongside them. The worry, the waiting, the
- 1:06:14pride, all of it. Jesse came in today to talk
- 1:06:18about what her son's service has meant for him and for their
- 1:06:24whole family. Jesse, welcome to the show.
- 1:06:27Thank you very much. Thank you for having me.
- 1:06:29So how's the drive in? They were good.
- 1:06:32Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:06:33Oh, the traffic. She just coming to me as I was
- 1:06:36going to the entrance of the wife.
- 1:06:38Did you walk here? No.
- 1:06:39No, I Uber. I'm like, OK.
- 1:06:41All right. So now your now your son is
- 1:06:45deployed, or is he not deployed? Not at the moment.
- 1:06:48OK. He's in North Carolina.
- 1:06:50I mean, South Carolina. South Carolina.
- 1:06:51OK. And how has it been?
- 1:06:55You know what? He loves it.
- 1:06:56Yeah. I never knew how much he needed
- 1:06:58that in his life. That regiment, he loves it.
- 1:07:01You know, people, people tend not to like the military, but
- 1:07:04like, one thing the military does do is, you know, it, it
- 1:07:09trains you to adapt to different situations, trains you to adapt
- 1:07:15to different characters. You know, I don't know how many
- 1:07:19times I've told the story, but like, I never had an egg omelet
- 1:07:23until I went into the military, you know, because that, and
- 1:07:26usually when you go in the military, 9 times out of 10, I
- 1:07:32mean, it's, it's, it's because you come from a poor family, you
- 1:07:35know, I mean, that's, that's just how it is.
- 1:07:37It is. And, yeah, it's just, you know,
- 1:07:40something to think about. But, you know, let's, let's do
- 1:07:45this. Jesse.
- 1:07:47Yeah. We started at the beginning when
- 1:07:48your son told you that he was joining the Marines.
- 1:07:51What went through your mind in that moment?
- 1:07:54I mean, because I'm. I'm sure you've watched Full
- 1:07:57Metal Jacket. And thank you for your service.
- 1:08:00I mean, you've seen all these military movies.
- 1:08:04I I saw a save in Private Ryan before I left for Iraq.
- 1:08:07Not a good movie to watch before you go deploy, right.
- 1:08:10But what what was going through your head, especially after I'm
- 1:08:16I'm sure after he went in, you guys started watching like
- 1:08:20different military movies and stuff like that.
- 1:08:22So when he actually knew when he was a kid, like very young,
- 1:08:26because he had a grandfather who was in the military, a great
- 1:08:29grandfather that was in the military.
- 1:08:31So he said since day one, that's what he wanted.
- 1:08:34OK. So it was kind of like a goal.
- 1:08:36Absolutely. OK.
- 1:08:37All right. I've always said he's my
- 1:08:38principal. Yeah.
- 1:08:39That's kind of our relationship. OK.
- 1:08:41He puts me. So, you know, I was excited for
- 1:08:45him. It was definitely going to be a
- 1:08:47challenge. His size definitely affected
- 1:08:49things. So, you know, we just didn't
- 1:08:52know what was going to happen. But it's all been exciting.
- 1:08:55It's taught him to grow up really fast.
- 1:08:58And it's made me be more proud of anything else than I have
- 1:09:01ever been in my life. That's that's, that's amazing.
- 1:09:04That's amazing. And he was telling me that he
- 1:09:06was like doing podcasting and stuff.
- 1:09:08And I told Jesse, you know, hey, you're part of a military
- 1:09:14family. Yeah.
- 1:09:16You're more than welcome to utilize the studio here.
- 1:09:20Every military family has a hardest part.
- 1:09:26And for you and your family, what do you think has been the
- 1:09:30toughest stretch of his service? Because he's been in service now
- 1:09:34for about a year, right? No, he's been in since 2020.
- 1:09:38Oh, OK. All right.
- 1:09:39He's. He's been in a while then.
- 1:09:41Yeah, definitely. He's definitely done some great
- 1:09:43things. So like, he's a Sergeant, you
- 1:09:45know, he does a lot of great things.
- 1:09:46But So what you're asking what's been the most difficult part?
- 1:09:50Yeah. Has he deployed yet?
- 1:09:52Yeah. So he's done.
- 1:09:53He's gone to Japan. He's got Greenland, OK, and he's
- 1:09:58going to be deploying again in coming March, but OK, not sure
- 1:10:01where yet, OK. And with him deploying and
- 1:10:04stuff, with all this crap that's going on, like, how much of A
- 1:10:09strain has that been on your family?
- 1:10:12Actually, really, his position makes it so I'm not so overly
- 1:10:15concerned with that. OK.
- 1:10:17You know, it's going to keep him out of certain instances.
- 1:10:21Is he like office where he must be a smarty?
- 1:10:23He's the communications. Yeah, he's a smarty.
- 1:10:25Yeah. You know, the higher the MOS.
- 1:10:28Yeah. The higher I usually say the
- 1:10:31higher the MOS. That's how many minutes it takes
- 1:10:34before you get killed or whatever.
- 1:10:36You know, you're like an 88, Mike.
- 1:10:38You hardly, I'm not gonna say that you're not gonna see
- 1:10:41combat, but it's very, very unlikely.
- 1:10:45Yeah. So I didn't say the most harder
- 1:10:47part has been actually just the separation cuz he hasn't lived
- 1:10:50at home or even in the same state.
- 1:10:52So it's definitely put a strain on him and his wife, so she's
- 1:10:56had to move out to places that there's no one else around.
- 1:10:59And why does he have kids? No.
- 1:11:01No kids yet. No kids yet.
- 1:11:03Yeah. Yeah, that's a big question yet
- 1:11:05they've been talking about it. Yeah.
- 1:11:07Have kids after, right. Have kids after, right.
- 1:11:11Or get a position where you know, you're not going to be
- 1:11:13being necessarily deployed. Right.
- 1:11:16OK. So people talk about the
- 1:11:20sacrifice of service members make and the family makes them
- 1:11:25too. But what is your family?
- 1:11:29You know, what is they giving up a long way?
- 1:11:32And the one thing that I want to know my, just my question is,
- 1:11:37you know, when you're out with your son, because I'm sure he's
- 1:11:40been back for R&R or whatever, he just came back.
- 1:11:43Actually, when it comes back, like when people say thank you
- 1:11:47for your service to him, Do you ever get, I don't want to say
- 1:11:51jealous, but do you ever get like, well, shit, acknowledge
- 1:11:56me, you know, I'm right here kind of thing.
- 1:11:58Do you ever get like that a tiny bit, Yeah.
- 1:12:01Yeah. But it's more just being proud
- 1:12:03of him, right. And those opportunities that
- 1:12:05he's going to get to do. Right.
- 1:12:06Like, you know, he was in Hawaii and they were writing those
- 1:12:10hoverboards on the water. Yeah.
- 1:12:12I don't know exactly what they're called, but like, that's
- 1:12:14cool, right? Bad ass.
- 1:12:17I don't know if I can say that word, but yeah, you can say
- 1:12:19that. I don't see the F word.
- 1:12:21No, Frank, on the other side of this, what are your what are you
- 1:12:30the proudest of? Like give me a moment from his
- 1:12:34service that just wow, I'm I'm so proud of you.
- 1:12:40Like what what's the biggest thing that he's called home,
- 1:12:42told you and you're just real proud of?
- 1:12:44For me personally, yeah. Was actually seeing him graduate
- 1:12:47boot camp because boot camp was very difficult.
- 1:12:49We didn't talk to him once through boot bank boot camp
- 1:12:52because of COVID and just the communication just never
- 1:12:55actually happened. So seeing your kid, because he
- 1:12:58was in boot camp for nine months, so to finally see him
- 1:13:01graduate and like touch him and hold him, yeah, that was
- 1:13:04definitely to see that change, that growth just in nine months
- 1:13:07was amazing for me. That was probably the most
- 1:13:10important for him. He'd probably, he would say like
- 1:13:13as fast as he moved up in positions for him, that'd
- 1:13:16probably be his most proudest moments because he's really
- 1:13:19excelled. Now you yourself, you, you
- 1:13:22wasn't in the military and you've seen your son grow up and
- 1:13:27you know, did you did your father or grandfather?
- 1:13:30OK, So got a little taste of military.
- 1:13:33That's that's what a little bit intrigued.
- 1:13:36OK, yeah, cuz my, my dad did the Air Force, OK.
- 1:13:38And I'm not the Air Force. I'm sorry.
- 1:13:40He did the Navy and then the National Guard.
- 1:13:42OK, so yeah, it was in our life, but it wasn't in our life cuz in
- 1:13:46the National Guard they're not really OK.
- 1:13:49They just do their weekend service and that's it.
- 1:13:51A little different. It is a little different.
- 1:13:55It is a little different. My son that wants to make it
- 1:13:56like 20 year career. I think that's about everybody.
- 1:14:01I think that's what everybody, you see the benefits.
- 1:14:05I mean, the benefits from giving 20 years is amazing.
- 1:14:08You know, when, when, when I went in because I, I was like
- 1:14:11really hesitant. And my mom, you know, she looked
- 1:14:14at me and she's like, you realize that if, if the whole
- 1:14:20world goes to shit, you're still getting paid because the
- 1:14:24government, they're never going to go bankrupt.
- 1:14:27That's what she kept on telling me.
- 1:14:29I don't know if she'd say that today.
- 1:14:30You know what I mean, ain't she? I don't know if she'd say that
- 1:14:34today. My question is, with seeing all
- 1:14:38this, do you ever have regret that you didn't join the
- 1:14:42military, especially with how financial society is right now?
- 1:14:49No, because as a female, I think it's a little rougher and it's a
- 1:14:54little crazy to put yourself in certain situations as a That's
- 1:14:58true. That's very true.
- 1:14:59So for me personally, no more power to the people that do.
- 1:15:04But I mean, I think for me, I was really shocked to learn that
- 1:15:07there were Marines that were females.
- 1:15:09I was, oh, yeah, totally oblivious to that.
- 1:15:12So I really learned a lot just by that little thing.
- 1:15:15Interesting. Yeah, very interesting.
- 1:15:17And now he's in South Carolina, right?
- 1:15:21Have you been there to visit him?
- 1:15:23No. Oh, you gotta do that.
- 1:15:24Yeah, I know. I definitely need to gotta do
- 1:15:26that. You know, as soon as I went to
- 1:15:28Germany, that's my mom and dad came over to visit ASAP, you
- 1:15:33know? And it, it it's crazy that like,
- 1:15:36I didn't go anywhere. No, when I was in Germany until
- 1:15:40my parents got there. And then I went to the Black
- 1:15:43Forest. I went to see Dracula's tomb.
- 1:15:46I went to the the Holocaust. I, I forget the I, I can't
- 1:15:51remember act now or something like that.
- 1:15:54I, I, I forget what it was called, but like I never
- 1:15:58experienced that stuff right until my parents got there.
- 1:16:01And one thing that you know, and it just it rings through today.
- 1:16:06I always say that Marie or military people, they're not
- 1:16:11lazy. They just need help with
- 1:16:13navigation. Yes, OK, absolutely.
- 1:16:16And then that goes, and that goes today.
- 1:16:20I mean, I, I've been married for, I've been married for
- 1:16:24almost 16 years and I still need her help to, hey, what are we
- 1:16:30doing this weekend or what are we doing for date night?
- 1:16:33Like I have no navigation skills whatsoever at all.
- 1:16:36That's what it provides you, right?
- 1:16:38And you know, that's what, that's what parents do.
- 1:16:41They kind of, they kind of provide that for you.
- 1:16:43And that really taught me I can do this.
- 1:16:47You know, sometimes you don't think you can, but you you can.
- 1:16:51It's amazing what you can do, right?
- 1:16:53And then what's something about being a Marine mom that folks
- 1:16:59who never lived it just don't understand?
- 1:17:03Is there something that you can relate that that maybe people
- 1:17:08might not think about? I think, oh, wow, that's a good
- 1:17:12question. I think for me maybe would be
- 1:17:14the fact that he made him have more appreciation for me as a
- 1:17:18parent earlier than I, I personally got it for myself.
- 1:17:22So before you know, I could tell as soon as he's done with boot
- 1:17:24camp, he had a new respect and love for me as a parent.
- 1:17:29Now, this isn't one of the questions, I don't think.
- 1:17:32But when he came to you and said, hey, didn't first of all,
- 1:17:36did he ask you permission before he joined?
- 1:17:38Or did he just join and you're like, oh, OK, we're doing this
- 1:17:43now. All right.
- 1:17:44No, he took him a while to actually get into the means to
- 1:17:47be accepted. So it was a whole process.
- 1:17:50We knew it was coming. OK.
- 1:17:52Did he participate in the delayed entry program?
- 1:17:57I'm not really sure why it took so long to get in there, but I
- 1:18:01think it had a lot to do with his weight because he's a big
- 1:18:03boy. He's 630.
- 1:18:04Shit. I mean, be a Marine, you got to
- 1:18:06really lose a lot of weight and stuff.
- 1:18:07Shit. OK, All right.
- 1:18:10He's like the tallest person every single time there's a
- 1:18:12picture of him. Oh, he should be so proud.
- 1:18:15Yeah, I'm like 5 foot nothing, 100 and nothing.
- 1:18:18I was the shortest person on my football field.
- 1:18:20No, he was the tallest. He had to lose a lot of weight
- 1:18:23just to get in. This is important.
- 1:18:27This is this is before we go to the time showing.
- 1:18:31OK. But you know, there's a lot of
- 1:18:35people listening as you can, as you can tell if there's a mom
- 1:18:39listening right now whose kid just enlisted and she's scared
- 1:18:43because I'm sure you're kind of scared too.
- 1:18:48What would, what would you, what would you tell them?
- 1:18:51You know, first of all, is your son happy or your daughter?
- 1:18:54Is this really what's going to make them happy?
- 1:18:56If it is, then just, you have to almost trust the process and
- 1:19:02just, you know, want happiness for your son or daughter,
- 1:19:05wherever they're going to be at. So if that's what's going to
- 1:19:07make them happy and make them prosperous and grow, then that's
- 1:19:11the best thing for them because it, it can give you a really a
- 1:19:14lot of things. Even if you do four years or you
- 1:19:17do 20 years, the benefits that you can, you know, and if God
- 1:19:22forbid, if it happens to be their time, then you can go out
- 1:19:25with some pride and, you know, give that to your kid.
- 1:19:29How do you talk to your, Do you talk to your child every week?
- 1:19:32Do you talk to him every month? We actually, we kind of both
- 1:19:36have said to each other we don't need to call as often as we
- 1:19:39should because it does remind us of what we're missing.
- 1:19:42Yeah. So, but when we do see each
- 1:19:44other and talk, it's like we haven't missed a beat.
- 1:19:47OK. So, you know, so like when I
- 1:19:50was, when I was doing competitive skiing and I was
- 1:19:53married, like I, I, I pretty much at least call my wife at
- 1:19:58least for 5 minutes at the end of the night, you know, right
- 1:20:01before bed. Wife is different.
- 1:20:03Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:20:04Because he talked to his brothers, right?
- 1:20:06Two brothers. He talks to them daily.
- 1:20:08Yeah. And they play video games.
- 1:20:10I think it's just the mother and the son.
- 1:20:12Probably. Probably.
- 1:20:13Wife's always says I'm the hardest one for him to say
- 1:20:16goodbye to. So I take that for what that's
- 1:20:18worth. Yeah.
- 1:20:19I always cried when I left my mom.
- 1:20:21I was a mommy's boy. Yeah, I was a mommy's boy.
- 1:20:24You know, the the big thing is obligation.
- 1:20:26You know when when you make it an obligation to do something.
- 1:20:33It's not really. I don't.
- 1:20:34I don't feel that it's very fun and it's, it's not out of love,
- 1:20:39you know, no, So I, I totally, I totally get it.
- 1:20:43And then I think that's our last question.
- 1:20:47I'm going to, before we go to the time to shine.
- 1:20:50If there is any listeners or viewers at this time, I'm going
- 1:20:54to give you guys kind of a little 5 minute window or
- 1:20:57whatever. But if you have a question or
- 1:21:01Jesse, let me know while I'm waiting for that, let me read
- 1:21:07you what what we do know today. Jesse Cook is a Marine mother.
- 1:21:13Especially if you're just tuning in now.
- 1:21:15We are here at MBRS studio, veteran voices here in
- 1:21:22Westminster. Her.
- 1:21:24I I I take it your son probably is not going to be calling.
- 1:21:29I think that he. I mean, I know he's working
- 1:21:31today though Yeah. Well, yeah, because right now
- 1:21:34depending on South Carolina, that's on Eastern Time, isn't it
- 1:21:40Yeah. So they're two hours ahead OK
- 1:21:42well he. Well, then they usually don't
- 1:21:45break until like 11:30 or 12. He's probably in the motor pool
- 1:21:48working and stuff. Yeah.
- 1:21:49But you know, and the, I have no idea what the day that he left,
- 1:21:56the day that he left for boot camp.
- 1:21:58Yeah. Tell us about that.
- 1:22:03That was definitely the hardest day.
- 1:22:04That was devastating, right? Yeah.
- 1:22:06Because A was during Cobin. Oh, he's a COVID baby.
- 1:22:10Well, yeah, OK, right, crime, COVID.
- 1:22:13And what's crazy is when he was born, it was a few months before
- 1:22:17it was 911, right. So then for him to be going off
- 1:22:20during COVID, that's kind of a weird coincidence.
- 1:22:22But it was definitely hard. We had a party.
- 1:22:26I let his girlfriend at the time, which is now his wife, she
- 1:22:30stayed with him the whole entire time he's been away.
- 1:22:32But that, you know, I let her take him to the airport.
- 1:22:35So I said from bye from far. I think I remembered Tom to come
- 1:22:39back and open a jar for me just so I could say goodbye one more
- 1:22:42time. That's awesome.
- 1:22:43That's awesome. And, you know, and kudos for you
- 1:22:47for, you know, giving him that, that.
- 1:22:50Oh, you got to break the leash. Yeah.
- 1:22:51Yeah. Let them grow.
- 1:22:52Let them be happy, Right. And that's what I did.
- 1:22:54And I didn't talk to him again for nine months.
- 1:22:57I didn't even because the mail was so messed up at the time.
- 1:23:01I got his letters after boot camp.
- 1:23:03Yeah, that sounds. Yeah.
- 1:23:05Yeah, I remember that. I came home after basic and I,
- 1:23:11yeah, as soon as I got there, the, the mail, the the thing
- 1:23:14that pissed me off when I got out of the military or when I
- 1:23:18first left high school to join the military, we wouldn't have
- 1:23:23satellite cable or anything for the whole time that I was a
- 1:23:29child, right. And then when I come back from
- 1:23:31basic, they have they have DIRECTV.
- 1:23:35Oh, that pissed me off so bad. And then then I didn't know how
- 1:23:39to I I went to rent a movie because it said Robin Hood.
- 1:23:42Well, it was the kind of it was the wrong kind of movie, Robin
- 1:23:46Hood, you know, and I didn't know anything about that.
- 1:23:49So I learned the hard way about that.
- 1:23:52But yeah, has there been any changes since, you know, like
- 1:23:59you and your, you and your spouse or your boyfriend or your
- 1:24:02husband or just you, has there been any like changes since he's
- 1:24:07left? Like you guys didn't have cable
- 1:24:10nowadays, Like, oh, now I have cable.
- 1:24:12Has there been any changes? We moved.
- 1:24:14You moved. OK.
- 1:24:15Yeah. I mean, our dog passed, man,
- 1:24:19that's been big changes. That is hard.
- 1:24:21That is hard. But you know, a funny story,
- 1:24:24funny story, when I was at Forest Stewart, Georgia, I
- 1:24:29remember my mom and dad called and told me that my dog had
- 1:24:33passed away. But my dog that you know, I got
- 1:24:37him during the Shack era, okay, and it was a girl dog, so
- 1:24:43everybody was Shack was a boys name.
- 1:24:44So I'm like, okay, well his name is Shaquille, but I call him
- 1:24:48Shack for short, just making up shit.
- 1:24:50But I remember when he died, I actually called my first
- 1:24:54Sergeant to see if I could have the day off.
- 1:24:56And I, you know, now that I think about, I'm like, I was an
- 1:25:00idiot. Wow.
- 1:25:00Yeah. You just gave him, like, a fire
- 1:25:03for his ammunition, right. Pretty much.
- 1:25:05Right. It's almost like, oh, your mom
- 1:25:07and dad sent you a care package. Isn't that sweet?
- 1:25:10All right. Some of those things maybe you
- 1:25:12just don't do. Right.
- 1:25:14They don't need a cat. But it's, it's it's it's it's
- 1:25:17truly funny. It's truly funny.
- 1:25:19All right. Well, ladies and gentlemen, it
- 1:25:21is that time. It is the moment we've been
- 1:25:26waiting for the Titan shine. I see.
- 1:25:38It's been fun. Thank you for having me.
- 1:25:39I appreciate it. I really do.
- 1:25:41I appreciate you coming in and I and if you stick around, I love
- 1:25:44that. Yeah, we have coffee and Donuts
- 1:25:46and all that stuff. You know, if you don't want to
- 1:25:48do the whole video thing or you want behind behind the scenes,
- 1:25:52it's totally up to you. Can I stay here or do I have to
- 1:25:55leave? Huh.
- 1:25:56Do I have to leave or can I? No, no, he's stay here.
- 1:25:59Yeah, you're stuck. But tell me.
- 1:26:04Maybe you, maybe I didn't set you up for the right question or
- 1:26:08for answer. And there's something that you
- 1:26:10want to get off your chest about, you know, something, some
- 1:26:15kind of a hardship that you and your boy has.
- 1:26:17Wait. And people, they don't think
- 1:26:20about that unless you're in that situation.
- 1:26:22Is there is there anything that you have on your heart that you
- 1:26:25would like to discuss? This is your two-minute
- 1:26:28platform. I think the only thing maybe
- 1:26:30would be from the very beginning, maybe more of an
- 1:26:33outreach to let people know where they can find out info
- 1:26:36about their kid that's, you know, maybe when they graduate
- 1:26:39because like we missed out on a couple like the family days
- 1:26:42because we didn't really understand that.
- 1:26:44So I think that would be really my thing.
- 1:26:46But no, I mean, he's a big boy. Yeah.
- 1:26:49OK. So like he's like, I think
- 1:26:52introductions when they're there, like going through all
- 1:26:55these different like courses and stuff, you kind of like an
- 1:26:58introduction or a packet or something sent to the parents so
- 1:27:02that, you know, you see what's going on.
- 1:27:03And that makes perfect sense because, you know, I didn't
- 1:27:07know. But recently I, I reconnected
- 1:27:10with my commander from when I was deployed to Iraq.
- 1:27:14And he told me he was like, do you realize when before we
- 1:27:17deployed, you know, I, I wrote your parents, right?
- 1:27:21And I didn't know that. I didn't know that until my mom
- 1:27:23and dad didn't tell me that he wrote parents.
- 1:27:26And and I, I talked to my dad and my dad's like, Oh yeah, we
- 1:27:30talked on the phone. Oh, what did you say?
- 1:27:34You know, And he was like, well, gosh, you know, Ace has been a
- 1:27:37long time ago. He's like, I think one of the
- 1:27:40things that was said was, you know, that is my only son and
- 1:27:45blah, blah, blah. You know, because evidently
- 1:27:47when, when you, when your only son, you're, you're not supposed
- 1:27:52to supposedly you're not supposed to deploy.
- 1:27:55That's the reason why we created the movie Saving Private Ryan.
- 1:27:58It's a true story. You know, we, we, we don't have
- 1:28:01time to go into that, but you know, it's, it's incredible the
- 1:28:08we as military guys talk about how the military kinda doesn't
- 1:28:14tell you everything that you're on a need to know basis, right.
- 1:28:17It's even worse when you're a family member.
- 1:28:20So when you bring that up, that's that's a big thing that
- 1:28:26they really need to work on. Has the FRG reached out to you
- 1:28:31guys yet? No, I don't even know what that
- 1:28:34is. We'll talk, we'll talk, we'll
- 1:28:35talk, we'll talk. All right, everybody.
- 1:28:37With that being said, we are going to go to the tribute to
- 1:28:42the Troop. Jesse, thank you so much.
- 1:28:46Thank you for being here. You're going to stick around
- 1:28:48with us. We're going to have some fun for
- 1:28:50everybody else. We're going to hit the tribute
- 1:28:52to the Troop. And then after the tribute to
- 1:28:54the Troop, it's the story behind it.
- 1:28:59We have a good one today. You're going to love it.
- 1:29:01So whatever you do, stay with us.
- 1:29:03The best is to come. You're listening to the show
- 1:29:06that highlights all the nonprofit programs out there
- 1:29:08beyond the air. You're listening to the H Train
- 1:29:10show right here on MBR. Stay with us.
- 1:29:14Detail attention. First call.
- 1:29:22The service members name is called out loud in the context
- 1:29:25of a unit. This is meant to ensure all are
- 1:29:28present and accounted for. Second call, the name is called
- 1:29:32out again louder to confirm that the service member is indeed
- 1:29:36absent. Third call.
- 1:29:39The name is called out for a final time, followed by a
- 1:29:42statement indicating that the service member is not present
- 1:29:45and accounted for, signifying their death.
- 1:29:47The final roll call serves as a symbolic gesture to respect and
- 1:29:51remember their service. Sir, I don't.
- 1:29:59I don't not tell the story. Well, you got the joke.
- 1:30:02You're telling the people what you.
- 1:30:03Can do here. You tell them how my troopers
- 1:30:06died. Hey everyone, thank you for
- 1:30:34tuning in to NBR today as we pay tribute to Army Major Bianca C
- 1:30:39Wilkerson of Sumter, SC Bianca was born in Norfolk, VA, and
- 1:30:46from the very beginning, she carried herself with a quiet
- 1:30:48determination of someone destined to serve.
- 1:30:51Bianca's military journey began in 2013 when she was
- 1:30:54commissioned as a second Lieutenant in the US Army
- 1:30:57Reserve after graduating from Virginia Commonwealth
- 1:31:00University. Served as the executive officer
- 1:31:04for the 678 Transportation Company, demonstrating early on
- 1:31:08that she was a leader who inspired confidence and
- 1:31:11excellence. In 2017, she transitioned to
- 1:31:14active duty through the Army's Call to Active Duty program,
- 1:31:18stepping fully into a career marked by discipline and
- 1:31:20selected unwavering commitment. Her assignments took her through
- 1:31:24Fort Lee, the 25th Infantry Division, and multiple operation
- 1:31:29and command roles including brigade operations officer,
- 1:31:34company commander, and G Force Supply and Services chief.
- 1:31:38Every position she held reflected her ability to lead
- 1:31:41with clarity, compassion and strength.
- 1:31:44Major welcome to serves with Headquarters U.S.
- 1:31:48Army Central and 3rd Army at Shaw Air Force Base in South
- 1:31:52Carolina, where she was known for her professionalism, her
- 1:31:55drive, and her ability to elevate every mission she
- 1:31:59touched. Her awards include the
- 1:32:02Meritorious service medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army
- 1:32:05achievement medal and the Army Superior Unit War.
- 1:32:09On September 18th, 2026, while supporting overseas operations
- 1:32:13in Doha, Qatar, she would became I'll while en route to the
- 1:32:17Middle East. She was 37.
- 1:32:21The Army classified passing as a non combat related incident.
- 1:32:25In recognition for her service and her and impact, she was
- 1:32:29posthumously promoted to Major. Bianca loved to hike, loved off
- 1:32:34roading and the outdoors. She found joy in the
- 1:32:38companionship of her dogs, Bo and Brody.
- 1:32:40She was a soldier, a leader, and a woman who embraced life with
- 1:32:44energy and purpose. Bianca survived by her extended
- 1:32:47family and her brothers and sisters in arms.
- 1:32:50We here at MBR would like to thank you Major Bianca C
- 1:32:54Wilkerson. Our prayers are with your
- 1:32:56family, friends, and those who served alongside you.
- 1:33:00We honor your service. We speak your name.
- 1:33:03We remember your sacrifice. Belly tail pension ready?
- 1:37:32Every set back is just a set up for a comeback.
- 1:37:35Keep cracking forward. 90% of what we worry about in future
- 1:37:39never happens. Whenever things get rough or it
- 1:37:42feels like you're at the edge, remember this.
- 1:37:46Storms pass. Tough times don't last, but
- 1:37:50tough people do. Ladies and gentlemen, ladies and
- 1:38:00gentlemen, welcome back in. It's 37 minutes past the hour
- 1:38:05and you're listening to sort of the highlights of the nonprofit
- 1:38:07programs out there beyond the VA.
- 1:38:09You're, you're listening to the a strange show, you're on MBR.
- 1:38:14We've had a fantastic show so far.
- 1:38:17We, you know, we've, we've kind of, we've kind of talked about
- 1:38:23the top story and we had Jesse Cook on and she told her, told a
- 1:38:29little bit about her story. Now it's what everybody has been
- 1:38:34waiting for. Everybody seems to like the
- 1:38:37segment. It's called Behind the Story and
- 1:38:41it's that time behind the story. Very cool.
- 1:38:49Every item has a story. Every story connects us to a
- 1:38:53legacy that must never be forgotten.
- 1:38:56Discover the story behind it. This is a story about a mother
- 1:39:05that they never forgot. A shattered helmet might look
- 1:39:10like damaged equipment. The pieces of Corporal Jason
- 1:39:14Dunham's helmet tell a story about courage, a mother's love
- 1:39:20in a bond that continued after Marine's death.
- 1:39:24This is a historical story, not a recent incident, and it's
- 1:39:29connection to today, the relationship between a Marine
- 1:39:33and the families they care about.
- 1:39:37Jason was 22 years old Marine from COSCO, New York serving as
- 1:39:45a squad leader with Company K, 3rd Battalion, 7 Marines.
- 1:39:50On April 14th, 2004. This squad was operating in
- 1:39:56Cabal, Iraq. After a nearby Marine convoy
- 1:40:01came under attack, his team moved towards the fighting and
- 1:40:05stopped vehicles, leaving the area to search for weapons.
- 1:40:09During this search, a insurgent attacked Jason.
- 1:40:13In the struggle, the attacker released a grenade.
- 1:40:18Jason warned nearby Marines and covered the grenade with his
- 1:40:23helmet and his body. He absorbed the explosion and
- 1:40:28saved the lives of two fellow Marines.
- 1:40:32He survived the initial blast but died from his wounds 8 days
- 1:40:37later at the National Naval Medical Center in Bathia,
- 1:40:45Maryland. I'm sure I butchered that with
- 1:40:48his parents beside him. On January 11th, 2007, Jason's
- 1:40:54parents accepted his Medal of Honor at the White House.
- 1:40:58The ceremony honored the sacrifice, but it also revealed
- 1:41:04A quieter part of his life. See, Jason sometimes called his
- 1:41:10mother, Deb, from the barracks and passed the phone to fellow
- 1:41:15Marines who needed a mother to talk to.
- 1:41:19Through those calls, she became a source of comfort beyond her
- 1:41:25own son. After Jason's death, the
- 1:41:29relationship continued. Marines collected its fragments
- 1:41:36after the explosion. Years later, the former
- 1:41:40commander Trent Gibson worked with Deb and Dan Dunham to
- 1:41:45decide how to preserve them. Most of the helmet would go to
- 1:41:50the National Museum of the Marine Corps, with one fragment
- 1:41:54reserved for the mass of the USS Jason Dunham.
- 1:42:00That decision gave the broken equipment and lasting purpose.
- 1:42:06A museum could help future visitors understand Jason's
- 1:42:10sacrifice. The fragments associated with
- 1:42:15the ship would connect its sailor to the marine whose name
- 1:42:21it carry. Preserving the helmet also
- 1:42:25involved the people who knew him, allowing the family to
- 1:42:32participate in how his story would be remembered.
- 1:42:37For our show and this focus, we're, we're focusing on the
- 1:42:42small acts of care around the larger act of courage.
- 1:42:48Handling a phone to somebody who needed a mop, making a holiday
- 1:42:54call and helping parents preserve their child's memory.
- 1:43:01Those, those are the important things in life.
- 1:43:12Those actions give listeners and viewers something that we can
- 1:43:19understand and practice in their own communities.
- 1:43:23Jesse's appearance today is the story doesn't imply that she has
- 1:43:28suffered the same loss or opens a broader question about
- 1:43:32belonging. But when a child becomes a
- 1:43:34Marine, can the people serving beside them become part of the
- 1:43:41parents extended family? Jason and Deb's story shows how
- 1:43:46meaningful that connection can be.
- 1:43:51Conversation Bridge. Yeah.
- 1:43:58You know, it's I I think it's John.
- 1:44:01I don't really listen to country, but I think it's John.
- 1:44:05John Michael Montgomery. He sings the song Letters from
- 1:44:08Home, you know, and I can assure you, and that song, it's exactly
- 1:44:15factual that when a soldier cries, nobody laughs.
- 1:44:24When a soldier cries, every single veteran is always there
- 1:44:31to to help them through thick and thin.
- 1:44:35I don't know if you've been given that opportunity to where
- 1:44:41you can say hi to these soldiers that he's like battle buddies
- 1:44:46with, you know, stuff like that, But it it became it becomes a
- 1:44:52different life story when you become close with some of his
- 1:44:56battle buddies. If he if he loses them and, you
- 1:45:01know, hopefully you never be put in that predicament, but you
- 1:45:08could be. Absolutely.
- 1:45:09And, you know, that's one of the reasons why I always say, you
- 1:45:13know, thank you for your service because I your your your mother
- 1:45:18service. It never goes out the window.
- 1:45:20You know, you don't need TS from that.
- 1:45:21So that's an amazing story. Yeah.
- 1:45:26So that is the story. Evidently this this Kevlar is in
- 1:45:31the museum and that's the story behind it.
- 1:45:35You know, I have a friend whose name is Kyle Carpenter.
- 1:45:38He's, he's no longer and he, that's, that's how he got his.
- 1:45:43He, he's still alive today. But you know, you, you know, he
- 1:45:48has burns and stuff. He has lost his eye.
- 1:45:53You know, for somebody to give up their life to help another,
- 1:46:01that is the greatest form of love and appreciation.
- 1:46:07And yeah, I just wanted to mark that.
- 1:46:09Hopefully you never have to go through that.
- 1:46:11But, you know, thank you. Thank you for your service.
- 1:46:17Dumb and dumb family really appreciate it.
- 1:46:21OK, well, now that we got all that, you know, crying out of
- 1:46:27it, it is that time, ladies and gentlemen, it is the final
- 1:46:30thoughts. At Project ML.
- 1:46:45Our mission is simple, to give motorcycles to veterans who need
- 1:46:48the kind of peace and freedom that only a ride can give.
- 1:46:52We sponsor charity events and rides to generate donations on
- 1:46:55the acquisition of the bikes while direct.
- 1:46:57Donations make up the ride. We seek to provide a little
- 1:47:00motorcycle healing to capable vets.
- 1:47:03All right, ladies and gentlemen, so once again, if you were a
- 1:47:07veteran and you don't have a motorcycle, Google Project ML
- 1:47:14gratitude. They are an amazing group.
- 1:47:17If you need me to connect you, I will.
- 1:47:19But they give a motorcycle free to a veteran that doesn't have
- 1:47:241:00 every single year. Yep.
- 1:47:26And I believe they're like on #32 or something.
- 1:47:30It's crazy. Excuse me, but look into them
- 1:47:36and if you want me to help you connect, I can totally help you
- 1:47:39connect with them. They're they're amazing people.
- 1:47:43HG What did you learn today? I learned not to run up the
- 1:47:51score in the football game. If you coach at the a Catholic
- 1:47:54High School, Catholic private school, they apparently they're
- 1:47:57not going to like that. No SO.
- 1:48:00I won't if I ever in that situation.
- 1:48:03I'm not running the score I guess.
- 1:48:06They all have to be even now. But right now.
- 1:48:09Jesse, what did you learn today that you know?
- 1:48:13I don't. I didn't learn a lot, but I
- 1:48:15learned that this was the plan to come here and be a part of
- 1:48:18this. You learned it wasn't a light,
- 1:48:19but hey, I still made it on time.
- 1:48:22Better than last time. Oh, man.
- 1:48:25Well, before we close to this, I want to leave everybody with
- 1:48:32something. Behind every uniform is a
- 1:48:34person, and behind that person is a family whose story deserves
- 1:48:39to be heard. Thank you to our guest, Jesse
- 1:48:43Cook, for spending time with us. Having a Marine mother join us
- 1:48:48is a reminder that service reaches far beyond the person
- 1:48:53wearing the uniform. And families carry the worry,
- 1:48:57the waving, the love. And we can't control every
- 1:49:01headline or solve every problem, but we can't choose how we treat
- 1:49:07people. We can listen before judging.
- 1:49:10We can check on that buddy who's been quiet, and we can make time
- 1:49:16for somebody without waiting until they're struggling.
- 1:49:20Remember people, people never post the bad things.
- 1:49:27They always post the good things.
- 1:49:29They always bragging right. So if you don't see somebody
- 1:49:33posting and they're quiet, those are the people that you need to
- 1:49:38reach out to. That's why MBR exists.
- 1:49:43Giving veterans a voice starts with being willing to hear them.
- 1:49:47If today's show reminds you of someone to reach out a simple
- 1:49:54hey, I was thinking about you can open a conversation that
- 1:49:59somebody needs. And of course, you know, the H
- 1:50:04trade show here we take, you know, take care of yourself,
- 1:50:08take care of each other and thank you for being a part of us
- 1:50:14this morning. And before we leave, you know,
- 1:50:18we we can't have. Well, maybe I'll let you do
- 1:50:21that, HG, before we leave. Beaker has our safety.
- 1:50:25Briefing, all right, team brief time, don't drink and drive.
- 1:50:28Don't beat on anyone and wrap it up.
- 1:50:30Now listen, put out your fires completely.
- 1:50:33Have a great weekend and be safe.
- 1:50:34See you next Friday. All right, so next Friday we
- 1:50:39have a certain number of nonprofits that we're going to
- 1:50:43interview. I actually sent him a message to
- 1:50:46see if if he was going to be able to be on with us next
- 1:50:51Friday. It's kind of a it's kind of a
- 1:50:54toss up. So what we're going to say is
- 1:50:57we're going to have a nonprofit on.
- 1:51:01Yeah, I might even go on the if you're a hunter and you like
- 1:51:06hunting, you want to make sure that you join us this coming
- 1:51:12Friday and we'll be we'll be having a an amazing non profit
- 1:51:19interview. But HG, you got anything?
- 1:51:24No, Sir. All right.
- 1:51:25Well, ladies and gentlemen, that's the end of today's show.
- 1:51:28Thank you so much for having coffee with us this morning.
- 1:51:33We really appreciate it, and we hope that you come back and
- 1:51:38visit us next Friday. From everybody here at the ACE
- 1:51:42Train Show and everybody here at Military Broadcast Radio, we
- 1:51:46just want to remind you that we're here for you, not for us.
- 1:51:50And they all said giving veterans a voice.
- 1:51:55Have a fantastic weekend to everybody.
- 1:51:57Don't do anything that I wouldn't do and we'll see you
- 1:52:01later. Hi, I'm beaker with military
- 1:52:04broadcast radio TV. We're your virtual.

- 1:52:12printing and a community that never leaves you behind.

- 1:52:21If you listen this week. So pull up a chair and stay for
- 1:52:23a spell. We're heading down a trail.
- 1:52:25We're good. Stories dwell.
