  [SPEAKER_00]: They're not the only free agents that the Jaguar is resigned.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You had Quentin Morris, who was gonna be a free agent, Keith Taylor.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Christian Braswell obviously was an exclusive rights for the agents so they only had to sign him to a minimum deal one year deal you had Matt Dickerson they brought back DJ Dallas probably missing one or two other guys but overall the rest of those players outside of

  [SPEAKER_00]: Monteric Buster Brown and Dennis Gardeck really were going to be more on very, very minimal deals.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And even the Dennis Gardeck deal is not a huge one.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But we're going to dive into the contract details here for both of those players.

  [SPEAKER_00]: This is kind of nerdy kind of stuff that might not everyone really care about, but...

  [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to dive into it anyways, so I just think this stuff is kind of important to understand what these contracts really mean, because you see, Buster Brown signed a $3 or $33 million contract.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And it was reported or suggested by all, all the economy of the Redoptional podcast that Dennis Gardex signed a two year deal worth $12 million.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You have a out after the third year, or even after the second year, out after the second, obviously there's an out after the third year, it's three year contract dummy.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So the Jaguars can get out and save most of the 20, 20, eight cap it.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Not saying they should want to, you know, Monterey Brown is still a very young player.

  [SPEAKER_00]: If he's playing up to his potential, and you still have Anthony Campanile, or some version of Anthony Campanile's defensive system in place here in Jacksonville,

  [SPEAKER_00]: No reason to think that Monterey Brown could not play this contract out.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Now, if he's continuing to play the way he's played the last couple years, he might want a new contract before the contract is expired before the 20, 28 season, but that remains to be seen, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: But I think all this is stuff that makes sense for the Jaguards.

  [SPEAKER_00]: A team out after year two.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And when it comes to the actual cap hits for this contract, in 2026 it comes in just under 4,000, 3.9 million, which that's what I expected.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Here's how do teams do this?

  [SPEAKER_00]: How do you sign a player to almost $11 million per year deal but his cap hit is only 3.9 million?

  [SPEAKER_00]: Well, you sign him with a big signing bonus and thanks to ShotCon, the Jack Wars are willing to write very large signing bonuses.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And then you also add void years.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So this is a three year contract, but there is a void year following the contract where the jack wars are taking on $4.4 million of cap space for this contract in 2029, even though the contract expires following the 2028 season.

  [SPEAKER_00]: This is a strategy that a lot of teams are employing now because quite frankly, the salary cap is rising so rapidly,

  [SPEAKER_00]: They don't impact you in a big way.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So I think it's a smart way to do business because you're kicking the can down the road a little bit and the road gets a whole lot wider the further you get into the future.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Now again, $3.9 million cap hit this year, which is really excellent.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I was predicting my best guess was that it would be

  [SPEAKER_00]: and 3.9 is as right at that point.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So good to go for me on that front.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Let's see if they have the Jaguar's updated salary cap on over the cap.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So right now it says the team is 1.1 million in the red.

  [SPEAKER_00]: That likely means there will be another move coming before or at the 4pm, started a new league year later today, Wednesday, March 11th, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: The league year starts at 4pm, Eastern Standard Time, teams have to be cap compliant by that time.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So you could see the Jaguars

  [SPEAKER_00]: cut someone like maybe tuna doga could make sense they would save all the money they need and then some to be cap compliant I think it's like 2.7 million if they moved on from tuna doga.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever the jacks want to do, they have the ability to do, it's just like, do we want to allocate the resources to do this?

  [SPEAKER_00]: They really want to do big restructures, you can be looking at like Josh Hinds Allen or Trevor Lawrence if they want to make a big, big move for a player.

  [SPEAKER_00]: is when Buster Brown will get the most, well, not one who'll get the most money.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It's when he will count the most towards the Jaguar's cap at 11.95 million dollars.

  [SPEAKER_00]: In 2028, again, the Jaguar's could tear up the contract right a new one.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It will be $11.5 million capital in 2028 if the Jaguars let the contract play out through the three years.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So if you're looking contract, man, I mean, for the way Buster Brown played for the Jaguars last year, I'm all over this, I love it.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And then when you get to the Dennis Guardec deal,

  [SPEAKER_00]: He is much more of a role player, like Buster Brown is a starting corner back in the Jaguar system, starting outside corner.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Dennis Gardeck on the other hand is a player who, and some weeks he gets starting reps.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It just depends on the game plan.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It depends on the situation, the opponent you're playing, but he's this hybrid off-ball slash on-ball linebacker.

  [SPEAKER_00]: kind of like a Sam old school Sam linebacker you just don't see that as much these days.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But he's going to be 32.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He's had a lot of injuries throughout his career.

  [SPEAKER_00]: His deal is two years 6.5 million average per year is 3.25 million.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Specialized type of role in the Jaguar's defense.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He can drop back and cover a little bit.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The jacks, if they want to, they can move on following the 2026 season.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But his cap number, cap hit in 2026 this year is 2001, are scummy, 2000, 2 million, 100,000, 2.1 mill.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And then his cap number in 2027 is 3.35 million.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And the Jaguars could effectively, again, get out after the 2026 season.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They have $1.95 million in cap savings if they cut Dennis Gardeck after this season with only $1.4 million in dead money.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So they could definitely move on if they want to, not saying they should want to, just saying they could.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think the Jaguar should still be aggressive to try to pursue someone who can be a high impact past Russia, whether that be from the interior or the edge, whatever you can make work, whatever you think works, figure it out.
