Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: Now in a few minutes, um, Joakim will be reminded
- 0:05Speaker 1: about why art was his least favorite subject back in school.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Am I right? No, again, OK, I, I'm terrible at art,
- 0:13Speaker 1: but I know how to appreciate a great painting and
- 0:16Speaker 1: someone who's really talented at it, yeah, like our guest
- 0:19Speaker 1: who's coming in. Her name is Clarissa, but on Instagram
- 0:22Speaker 1: and maybe her artist handle is life is art. Yeah,
- 0:26Speaker 1: so a solo trip in Japan back in 2025, which
- 0:29Speaker 1: was just last year.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Changed her perspective on painting. So she painted outdoors and
- 0:34Speaker 1: noticed strangers like stopping her to watch and like they
- 0:37Speaker 1: even took photos and chatted with her and stuff. So
- 0:40Speaker 1: live painting is something that she might want to just,
- 0:43Speaker 1: you know, make, make a, make it a thing here
- 0:46Speaker 1: in Singapore. We've seen a couple of those, not enough,
- 0:48Speaker 1: I feel, and she's so talented. I, I hope she
- 0:51Speaker 1: don't gives us a painting of herself today because I,
- 0:54Speaker 1: I can't even speak properly. Yeah.
- 0:58Speaker 1: My brain is not raining and my hair is in
- 0:59Speaker 1: a mess. I'm looking at myself on a TikTok live camera. 00, OK.
- 1:04Speaker 1: No worries. Well, you know what, we'll get to that
- 1:06Speaker 1: in just a little bit. We're also live on TikTok
- 1:08Speaker 1: right now. We're also live on air right now with
- 1:10Speaker 1: a lovely girl who's about to share her journey with
- 1:14Speaker 1: us after leaving her full-time job. She's pursuing this, her passion,
- 1:19Speaker 1: I'm guessing in a more full-time way now, Life painting
- 1:22Speaker 1: and her videos that went viral recently. Say hello to Clarissa.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Yes. Better known as life is art. Good morning on Instagram.
- 1:30Speaker 1: There we go.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Hi.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Thanks for having me today. Of course,
- 1:34Speaker 1: thank you for joining us. How's the day in your
- 1:36Speaker 1: life like? I mean, are you usually up this early
- 1:38Speaker 1: or
- 1:38Speaker 2: no? No, I'm actually still asleep now.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Usually,
- 1:41Speaker 2: usually, yeah, so I'm, I'm pretty, pretty shacked right now.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Oh no, OK,
- 1:46Speaker 1: it's OK. We'll give you some energy.
- 1:48Speaker 2: OK, OK, OK. I'm feeling the energy.
- 1:50Speaker 1: At least both of you have more sleep than I
- 1:53Speaker 1: had in the last.
- 1:54Speaker 1: 10 hours or so. But that's for you. I, I
- 1:56Speaker 1: slept last night. self-sabotage. But anyway, the focal point today is,
- 2:00Speaker 1: of course, Clarissa, our guest in the studio. Clarissa, for
- 2:02Speaker 1: those who might not be familiar with you, want to
- 2:05Speaker 1: describe what it is that you do and your talent
- 2:08Speaker 1: and gift from the above, I dare
- 2:10Speaker 2: say. Yes, OK, OK, so in short, right, I recently
- 2:16Speaker 2: started painting in places that I like. So it's just
- 2:19Speaker 2: a hobby, you know, but a lot of people just come.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Come up and say, make the hobby the job and
- 2:25Speaker 2: I'm like, hm, thinking about it, thinking about it. So
- 2:27Speaker 2: I've recently started my account like a month ago and
- 2:31Speaker 2: then I just went around like seriously like weekly to
- 2:34Speaker 2: places that are like maybe hotels and like restaurants, cafes.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I mean, I would have liked painting outside right by
- 2:41Speaker 2: Singapore it's like either rainy or super hot. So yes,
- 2:45Speaker 2: and then I met a lot of genuine reactions and
- 2:47Speaker 2: people and then I actually
- 2:50Speaker 2: Um, started content creating also, and then just one, this
- 2:55Speaker 2: one video went viral because a lot of interactions went, um,
- 3:00Speaker 2: When seen by people and it's very, very like it's
- 3:04Speaker 2: very surreal. Like last week I didn't even imagine this
- 3:07Speaker 2: because I haven't even posted that video. Yeah,
- 3:10Speaker 1: it
- 3:10Speaker 1: popped off like I was just looking at it. So
- 3:12Speaker 1: how do people usually approach you? Like do they just
- 3:15Speaker 1: come up to you and,
- 3:17Speaker 2: and it's two different kinds of people, the one who
- 3:20Speaker 2: stares from afar.
- 3:22Speaker 2: The introverts and then the extroverts like, wow, are you
- 3:25Speaker 2: painting that life? Because usually I would order desserts or
- 3:29Speaker 2: like food and the food they are not like maybe
- 3:33Speaker 2: can can stay for quite a while like doesn't melt
- 3:37Speaker 2: and then I would paint it live.
- 3:38Speaker 1: So that means you
- 3:39Speaker 1: can't draw uh paint or any of those.
- 3:44Speaker 2: I mean if I paint in a fridge, then maybe
- 3:47Speaker 2: can and, and
- 3:48Speaker 1: do you, do you feel like you will go more
- 3:50Speaker 1: like portraits for example or you
- 3:52Speaker 2: actually um so why I do live painting right is
- 3:55Speaker 2: to put myself out there because if you see the talent,
- 3:59Speaker 2: if you see the product really live, right, it's more
- 4:03Speaker 2: impactful than like social media because I feel like that's
- 4:07Speaker 2: what happens nowadays.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Sort of seeing pictures of a completed work of art. Yes, yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 1: you get to see the process and
- 4:14Speaker 2: I love meeting people.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I was gonna say the video that we're referring to
- 4:18Speaker 1: that popped off recently was her time in Christina's at Mondrian,
- 4:22Speaker 1: Singapore and look, as we speak, 18.5K likes. Wow, I mean,
- 4:27Speaker 1: the views, what about the views? Probably like hundreds of
- 4:30Speaker 1: thousands by now. And also the comments, I think from
- 4:33Speaker 1: even people that we know as well.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I want to give a shout to Thomas Kay.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Appreciate people and brands who care about artistic talent. I
- 4:40Speaker 1: love that. OK, so here, here's one for you. Have
- 4:43Speaker 1: you been approached by any like big clients or big
- 4:46Speaker 1: brands yet to do live painting at their events?
- 4:49Speaker 2: Um, I've recently started this quite new, so not yet,
- 4:53Speaker 2: but manifest. But over the last week, I have gotten
- 4:58Speaker 2: my first live wedding painting job.
- 5:01Speaker 1: OK, so that answers a question that was on our
- 5:04Speaker 1: TikTok live because someone is asking, do, does she do
- 5:07Speaker 1: wedding live paintings? Yes,
- 5:09Speaker 2: I got my first client. It's gonna be on September.
- 5:12Speaker 2: So I've never painted live on a big like painting
- 5:16Speaker 2: size before.
- 5:17Speaker 1: How big is
- 5:17Speaker 1: the size of the canvas? Well,
- 5:19Speaker 2: I promise.
- 5:20Speaker 2: 3.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Oh wow, OK. And it will take you a few hours,
- 5:23Speaker 1: I'm sure. Yes. Were you able to? Did this come
- 5:27Speaker 1: naturally to you?
- 5:29Speaker 2: I think so, yes, but I never thought of it
- 5:31Speaker 2: as like a serious career choice. Yes.
- 5:35Speaker 1: And what were you doing before this because you had
- 5:37Speaker 1: a full-time job.
- 5:39Speaker 2: I'm a designer.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Yeah, OK, so
- 5:40Speaker 2: it's kind of design. Yes, but it's like more of
- 5:43Speaker 2: like graphic design for like events and event collaterals, but
- 5:48Speaker 2: I also do freelance and stuff. But, but you know
- 5:51Speaker 2: what I feel after 3 years of working, I feel
- 5:53Speaker 2: like
- 5:55Speaker 2: It's, it's like empty you don't have.
- 5:58Speaker 1: You don't,
- 6:00Speaker 2: I
- 6:00Speaker 2: don't feel like I'm contributing that much to the, to
- 6:02Speaker 2: the world. Like it's just a corporate job that I
- 6:05Speaker 2: feel like, I mean, they treated me really nice. They're
- 6:07Speaker 2: not toxic and like the pay is OK and it's stable,
- 6:11Speaker 2: but I feel like I must do something really that
- 6:14Speaker 2: makes me feel alive, you know, that's why the name
- 6:17Speaker 2: is life.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Lisa.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Spoken like a true hands-on. I love that. I love that. OK.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Welcome back. We still have very talented live painter, Clarissa
- 6:27Speaker 1: live in the studio here with us on TikTok as well.
- 6:30Speaker 1: And if you want to go search up on Instagram,
- 6:31Speaker 1: it's life is a art. We got her in the
- 6:34Speaker 1: studio because we saw that video when she was at
- 6:37Speaker 1: Christina's over at Mondar Singapore that really popped off and
- 6:40Speaker 1: We are now being introduced to Clarissa's world of art.
- 6:44Speaker 1: I mean, look, um, with all the upsides because you've
- 6:47Speaker 1: experienced a lot of positivity as well and great responses
- 6:50Speaker 1: on social media, especially, what are some of the downsides
- 6:54Speaker 1: of turning your passion into your job? Oh,
- 6:58Speaker 2: I
- 6:58Speaker 2: have one.
- 6:59Speaker 2: So it's the constant anxiety that comes from leaving a
- 7:03Speaker 2: stable job. Yeah, I think because I've worked, uh, I've
- 7:07Speaker 2: only worked a full-time job for 3 years and now
- 7:11Speaker 2: since I leave it, like I left it, now I
- 7:14Speaker 2: feel like there's a constant need of perform, performing.
- 7:18Speaker 2: And I feel like maybe it's more of like um
- 7:21Speaker 2: feeling unstable or maybe should I, can I do this?
- 7:24Speaker 2: Can I do this? And now since I got viral
- 7:27Speaker 2: and then there's a lot of inquiries, it turned into
- 7:29Speaker 2: like
- 7:29Speaker 2: Um, how can I do more and everything, but I'm
- 7:32Speaker 2: really trying to like remember my vision of creating this
- 7:35Speaker 2: art account again. It's like slow down in life, man.
- 7:39Speaker 2: That's why I quit. Oh, OK, OK, OK, so I
- 7:46Speaker 2: actually do have a plan. So kids don't quit your
- 7:50Speaker 2: job suddenly, OK.
- 7:52Speaker 1: She says that, but she's only what, you're only 26, right?
- 7:55Speaker 2: 25 this year.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Oh you're 25, even younger, I thought, yeah, so
- 7:59Speaker 2: I had a plan to do freelance and part-timing first
- 8:02Speaker 2: as a designer, and I have this part-time contract going on,
- 8:06Speaker 2: and I think it didn't go through, but I feel
- 8:09Speaker 2: like it's like.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess, I guess it's OK. So how I
- 8:13Speaker 2: say it to my parents is like I reassure them
- 8:16Speaker 2: that I have like savings and everything, and they say, OK,
- 8:21Speaker 2: you do what you want because they trust me.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Yes, I think, I don't know. Do you feel like
- 8:28Speaker 1: times are changing in that way because I feel maybe
- 8:30Speaker 1: our parents may have.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Projected more worries on us back then. I mean, I
- 8:34Speaker 1: told my mom and dad, they'll be like, are you?
- 8:41Speaker 1: They'll be very worried about that. Yeah, I think media
- 8:43Speaker 1: has always, media and the arts, these two industries have
- 8:46Speaker 1: always been seen as the most stable. So if you
- 8:50Speaker 1: can now log on to 987.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Because we're going to get Clarissa to show off some
- 8:54Speaker 1: of her artwork to the camera. She says she wants
- 8:57Speaker 1: to show it off for us. So, we're live on
- 8:59Speaker 1: air and on TikTok, but maybe you can show the
- 9:01Speaker 1: book to the to the camera.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Just flip over,
- 9:04Speaker 1: right? Tell us what's up.
- 9:06Speaker 2: So this is my first drawing. Oh,
- 9:08Speaker 1: was this the Tiong Bahru
- 9:09Speaker 1: bakery one?
- 9:10Speaker 2: No, this is actually at.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Like Tanjong Pagar Tan. So this was my first, um,
- 9:17Speaker 2: serious life painting. So I did this for leisure like
- 9:21Speaker 2: on travels, but I feel like.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Oh, I lost my sketch, my previous sketchbook. So this
- 9:26Speaker 2: is like a fresh start. OK, let me show you
- 9:28Speaker 2: another one that I like also,
- 9:31Speaker 1: um, a memorable one, I guess.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Yes, so this was in Japan. It's so cute, right?
- 9:36Speaker 1: 00 my God, is it the one that wobbles? Like
- 9:38Speaker 1: when you move it, it will wobble
- 9:39Speaker 2: something like that. It's a
- 9:40Speaker 1: scone.
- 9:42Speaker 2: So this one was a very sweet.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Interaction with two girls that owned the cafe and they
- 9:46Speaker 2: even left. OK, so also I left, I, I tell
- 9:51Speaker 2: them to leave messages on the back. So this was
- 9:54Speaker 2: written in Japanese.
- 9:56Speaker 1: It's really
- 9:57Speaker 1: cute. Yeah, and, and your interactions in Japan changed the
- 10:00Speaker 1: way that you did things in Singapore, right? You kind
- 10:02Speaker 1: of brought it back.
- 10:04Speaker 2: So in context, right?
- 10:05Speaker 2: Um, I went to Japan a year ago and it
- 10:09Speaker 2: made me just fearless to just talk to strangers because
- 10:12Speaker 2: there's so many good strangers out there, man, great people
- 10:15Speaker 2: out there.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Yes,
- 10:16Speaker 2: and this was painted quite recently also.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Oh that's beautiful.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Yes, because I did this in my room, so.
- 10:22Speaker 2: There's no like pressure or anything.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Uh, this also in Japan or Japan. So when, when,
- 10:30Speaker 1: when Clarissa came in earlier, she said something that kind
- 10:33Speaker 1: of scared me a little bit. She has a in
- 10:35Speaker 1: a good way, yeah, you have a surprise for us. OK.
- 10:38Speaker 1: What's the
- 10:38Speaker 1: surprise? OK.
- 10:40Speaker 2: The surprise is the surprise is painted you something. What?
- 10:45Speaker 1: OK, drum roll, drum roll, drum roll.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Oh, that is, that's our, that's our picture in Jeremy
- 10:54Speaker 1: and and my friend Steve.
- 10:57Speaker 1: I
- 10:59Speaker 1: I get it. I get it. Oh my God, so
- 11:00Speaker 1: cute. We have to buy a very nice frame for this.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Oh my God, guys, this is not AI or whatsoever
- 11:09Speaker 1: or or or like anything. This is her hand and
- 11:12Speaker 1: look at that. She's a very nice message. Thank you
- 11:15Speaker 1: so much, Clarissa. Clarissa, this is so sweet. We did
- 11:18Speaker 1: not expect this. Thank you. And how long did it
- 11:21Speaker 1: take for you to do this?
- 11:22Speaker 1: FYI, I'm just, in case you're not on TikTok Live,
- 11:25Speaker 1: it is a photo of Jeremy, Joakim, and myself in
- 11:28Speaker 1: the 987 studio when Joe surprised me, right? April Fool's Day. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 11:35Speaker 1: on April Fool's. Oh, thank you so much. That is
- 11:36Speaker 1: so cute. Thank you so much
- 11:38Speaker 1: for that.
- 11:38Speaker 2: I was thinking like, oh, which picture would be the
- 11:40Speaker 2: best then I say, I think the husband.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Oh, you know what, that's very thoughtful.
- 11:46Speaker 1: That's very thoughtful. Now, now I just got to make
- 11:48Speaker 1: sure you buy a very nice frame for this. Yeah,
- 11:50Speaker 1: I want to put it up here in the studio.
- 11:51Speaker 1: You or me. That's the thing we share, we share.
- 11:55Speaker 1: So one week in your locker, one week in mine.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Maybe that will work, right? This is so sweet, and
- 12:00Speaker 1: you even have the 987 logos all over, by the way.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Our boss will be very happy. Thank you so much.
- 12:05Speaker 1: This is
- 12:05Speaker 2: very nice.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Hey, Clarissa, we wish you all the.
- 12:09Speaker 1: B and we really hope that you're going to get
- 12:11Speaker 1: everything that you manifest for and get all the clients
- 12:13Speaker 1: coming in, get that bag, you know, we're really excited
- 12:16Speaker 1: for you. Anything that you want to share with people
- 12:19Speaker 1: who aspire to be like you and maybe they're thinking, hey,
- 12:21Speaker 1: I want to leave my job too. I want to
- 12:23Speaker 1: do something that inspires me. What would you want to
- 12:25Speaker 1: say?
- 12:26Speaker 2: Hm, I think just one sentence. Don't forget to be
- 12:29Speaker 2: a human being. Like don't forget to live life.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Don't, don't get so swept up with the seriousness of life.
- 12:36Speaker 2: I know that everyone's circumstances are different, but it's really
- 12:41Speaker 2: worth slowing down a bit in life. You know what,
- 12:44Speaker 1: you're
- 12:44Speaker 1: probably the most mature 25 year old I've ever spoken to.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I don't think at 25 we thought this way. I
- 12:51Speaker 1: need to learn. One question coming through, are we able
- 12:54Speaker 1: to buy any of your art pieces?
- 12:56Speaker 2: Yes, OK, so if you go to my, uh, Instagram handle,
- 12:59Speaker 2: which is life.Ia.art, you would see a website link to
- 13:05Speaker 2: my
- 13:06Speaker 2: Uh, and then you can access my red card or just, just,
- 13:09Speaker 2: just like WhatsApp me or something.
- 13:11Speaker 1: So
- 13:11Speaker 1: you, you do like
- 13:11Speaker 1: commissioned
- 13:12Speaker 2: it has been only open for one week because of
- 13:15Speaker 2: the viral.
- 13:16Speaker 1: OK, do it. Now we're letting it known on national radio. Yeah,
- 13:20Speaker 1: get that bag. What if they want to buy any
- 13:22Speaker 1: of your previous art that they like that they've seen?
- 13:25Speaker 1: Is that possible?
- 13:27Speaker 2: We can
- 13:28Speaker 1: talk about it. There we go. OK, get your people
- 13:30Speaker 1: to talk to her people. OK, done. Thank you so much,
- 13:34Speaker 1: Clarissa for joining us. Wishing you all the best once again.
