Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the tech Talk Radio Network.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Hey this comedian Kathleen Maddie, and you're listening to Slick,
- 0:06Speaker 1: Justin and Andy on tech Talk Radio. It's something I
- 0:09Speaker 1: will never be listening to because I hate technology. For
- 0:13Speaker 1: those of you, the two these are your guys. Welcome
- 0:18Speaker 1: to another episode of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor,
- 0:21Speaker 1: I'm Slick, and I'm Justin. Lemme Justin. It is good
- 0:24Speaker 1: to see you, Slick, good to see you. It's been
- 0:26Speaker 1: a while since both of you guys been on board.
- 0:28Speaker 2: You know, we've been dealing with natural disasters.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Of one four it wasn't so much more natural, but yes,
- 0:34Speaker 3: it was a disaster. My entire basement flooded and that's
- 0:37Speaker 3: where my studio is.
- 0:38Speaker 1: So yeah, So now when it came time to do
- 0:41Speaker 1: the repair for you, Justin, it meant going all out
- 0:44Speaker 1: and removing everything that you had. Did you have to
- 0:47Speaker 1: take stuff off the walls as well? Or oh?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Absolutely well? I mean so behind me in the studio
- 0:52Speaker 3: here is my theater. I guess you could say, yeah,
- 0:56Speaker 3: so I didn't have to remove the TV and stuff
- 0:59Speaker 3: like that, but we did have to remove all of
- 1:01Speaker 3: the furniture, including the entertainment center, the couch behind me,
- 1:05Speaker 3: over on this side, the computer desk, everything, because the
- 1:09Speaker 3: entire carpet got replaced, so we have brand new carpet.
- 1:12Speaker 3: It is a different style of carpet. It's it's a
- 1:14Speaker 3: lot more low, low ply, so it's a little bit
- 1:17Speaker 3: more of a of a modern type of carpet you
- 1:19Speaker 3: find in more modern homes instead of the standard I
- 1:24Speaker 3: don't know what do you call that inch inch and
- 1:25Speaker 3: a half or whatever. It's not it wasn't shag before that,
- 1:28Speaker 3: but it was the standard carpet. It's almost like a
- 1:30Speaker 3: like a hotel carpet. Maybe maybe a hotel Yeah, you're
- 1:34Speaker 3: kind of yeah, but it's it's it's much easier to
- 1:36Speaker 3: clean up because we do have a cat who likes
- 1:38Speaker 3: to vomit everywhere, so this is actually much.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Well you know what I mean, cats do what cats do?
- 1:44Speaker 2: I like it.
- 1:45Speaker 1: You would put I think you would put a meme
- 1:47Speaker 1: up or a picture of your cat, was saying, brand
- 1:50Speaker 1: new carpeting in the home, and now the cat has
- 1:52Speaker 1: to make his mark.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yeah, And it was like a meme of like a
- 1:55Speaker 3: cat dressed in like upscale attire and it was like
- 1:58Speaker 3: junkins prepare the finest carpet. I wish too vomit.
- 2:03Speaker 1: What is it with cats in their hacking?
- 2:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean yeah, and he and as soon as
- 2:06Speaker 3: we lay the carpet down, he's like, oh, new carpet.
- 2:12Speaker 1: The cats yacking. That's not good.
- 2:16Speaker 3: This is what it is, man. I mean, at least
- 2:17Speaker 3: he hasn't, you know, done anything else on the carpet.
- 2:21Speaker 3: But we did have to, you know, get everything out.
- 2:25Speaker 3: But it took a while too, because the last time
- 2:29Speaker 3: I was on the show, the basement was all torn up.
- 2:31Speaker 3: I still had my desk here. But after that we
- 2:35Speaker 3: had to remove the desk. We had to remove all
- 2:37Speaker 3: the everything else so they could do the carpet. They
- 2:38Speaker 3: did new paint, new baseboards, they've done all of that
- 2:43Speaker 3: stuff and so everything is all brand new now. So
- 2:45Speaker 3: it's we finally put everything back together, got the basement
- 2:48Speaker 3: back up together. We put the couch back in.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Now.
- 2:52Speaker 3: One of the things is with the couch. You know,
- 2:53Speaker 3: this is a it's a lazy boy. It's a three
- 2:55Speaker 3: person you know, recliner. This we've had this for or gosh,
- 3:01Speaker 3: it's been about fifteen years almost now, so it's a
- 3:04Speaker 3: little bit older. But I mean it's still really nice
- 3:06Speaker 3: and it's a Lazy Boy brand, so it's gonna last forever.
- 3:08Speaker 3: But when we took it apart, we had to take
- 3:11Speaker 3: it into the three sections, and I had to store
- 3:13Speaker 3: it in the maintenance room behind me. And when we
- 3:16Speaker 3: put it in the maintenance room, I didn't pay attention
- 3:19Speaker 3: to where I actually put it, and one of the units,
- 3:22Speaker 3: this one on the very end here, I actually put
- 3:25Speaker 3: it next to the condensate drain from the HVAC and
- 3:29Speaker 3: the water heater. So for that whole month that it
- 3:32Speaker 3: was in there, it was leaking water into the swede
- 3:36Speaker 3: because this is a swede couch. Oh no, So it
- 3:39Speaker 3: was leaking water into the swede enough so much so
- 3:42Speaker 3: that the pressure of it leaning up against the pipe
- 3:46Speaker 3: and the humidity of the water caused the frame of
- 3:50Speaker 3: the couch to break because the wood just couldn't take
- 3:52Speaker 3: it anymore. So now I have a broken piece of
- 3:54Speaker 3: wood on it. It's thankfully it's not structural. It's just cosmetic.
- 3:58Speaker 3: I can just take a piece of metal behind it
- 4:00Speaker 3: and like you know, shore it up and it'll be fine.
- 4:03Speaker 3: For their fifteen years.
- 4:04Speaker 1: To be able to figure out how to do that
- 4:05Speaker 1: on YouTube.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, well, you know, yeah, this is that's
- 4:08Speaker 3: a pretty easy fix. But you know, it's it's it's
- 4:12Speaker 3: actually kind of funny that you mentioned that, and he,
- 4:14Speaker 3: you know, find out how to do that on YouTube.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Because when this, when this happened, this was the second
- 4:20Speaker 3: thing that happened within a course of a month, because
- 4:22Speaker 3: I remember, our first event was a leak in our
- 4:24Speaker 3: master bathroom, which caused us to have to remodel our
- 4:28Speaker 3: entire master bathroom. Which that is done. That's great, everything's awesome.
- 4:32Speaker 3: But then this happened, and then I got to the
- 4:35Speaker 3: point where I said, you know what, I can't. I can't.
- 4:38Speaker 3: I can't do this anymore. I I have to learn
- 4:41Speaker 3: how to do basic home maintenance. And in order to
- 4:46Speaker 3: do that, I said, you know, I'm just going to
- 4:48Speaker 3: start watching some YouTube videos, and so I subscribed to
- 4:51Speaker 3: some random YouTube channels, like there's one it's like the
- 4:54Speaker 3: hvac guy, and he talks about how to you know,
- 4:58Speaker 3: dismantle your hvac and do it, you know, clean it
- 5:00Speaker 3: yourself and right, and not only just clean the outside thing,
- 5:03Speaker 3: but like take apart the inside and get the a
- 5:06Speaker 3: frame coil that's where all the free on and everything
- 5:09Speaker 3: runs through how to take that out, how to clean that,
- 5:12Speaker 3: how to clean the outside, and then one of the
- 5:14Speaker 3: cool videos I saw, and this is this is a
- 5:16Speaker 3: funny story, but one of the videos I saw from
- 5:18Speaker 3: him was, Hey, is your ac turning on the but
- 5:22Speaker 3: it's not blowing cold air. Here's the problem. It's you.
- 5:26Speaker 3: It's your capacitor in the outdoor unit. And so you'll
- 5:30Speaker 3: hear you'll hear the fan turn on, but you won't
- 5:33Speaker 3: hear that dumb right, you know when the compressor kicks on, right,
- 5:37Speaker 3: because the capacitors dead, because the capacitor is what gives
- 5:41Speaker 3: that compressor the juice that it needs to start up.
- 5:44Speaker 3: So I'm watching this and it's like this video is
- 5:47Speaker 3: talking about how you can replace this capacitor for like
- 5:50Speaker 3: twenty bucks, and if you go with like an HVAC company,
- 5:53Speaker 3: they're gonna charge seven hundred to one thousand dollars to
- 5:57Speaker 3: replace this. And the the guys like it is so
- 6:00Speaker 3: easy to replace. So I watched this video, I went out,
- 6:03Speaker 3: I bought the one tool that he recommended, and I'm like,
- 6:06Speaker 3: you know what, this makes me want to start learning
- 6:09Speaker 3: how to do home maintenance. Fast forward two days later,
- 6:13Speaker 3: I'm sitting over at Bruise Beers after work having a drink.
- 6:17Speaker 3: My neighbor comes in. My neighbor, I see him there
- 6:19Speaker 3: all the time. He comes in. He's like he's looking
- 6:22Speaker 3: like he's looking disheveled, he's looking stressed, and it's it's sweaty,
- 6:26Speaker 3: it's sweaty. This was the week that we were having
- 6:28Speaker 3: like one hundred degree tempts. And he's like, my ace's
- 6:31Speaker 3: not working. I was like, oh, well, what's what's wrong.
- 6:34Speaker 3: He goes, well, I don't know, man, but like I
- 6:37Speaker 3: can hear the fan turning on, but it just won't
- 6:39Speaker 3: blow cold air. And I'm like, ding ding ding. And
- 6:42Speaker 3: so I immediately recalled that video and I said, have
- 6:45Speaker 3: you checked your capacitor? And he's like, what is the capelsitor?
- 6:48Speaker 1: What is that?
- 6:49Speaker 3: And I was like, well, it's the outdoor unit, you know,
- 6:51Speaker 3: blah blah blah, there's a capacitor in it. I kind
- 6:54Speaker 3: of explained how to do it. I said, dude, go
- 6:57Speaker 3: go get a very simple multimeter. I can even let
- 7:00Speaker 3: borrow mine if you want. Go check your capacitor, make
- 7:02Speaker 3: sure that's working. He's like, I don't know how to
- 7:04Speaker 3: do that. I said, here's a video, and I sent
- 7:06Speaker 3: him a link to the video. I said, here's a video.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Watch this video, go test it.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Let me know.
- 7:12Speaker 3: He comes back the next day and he's like, dude,
- 7:14Speaker 3: you just save me a thousand dollars.
- 7:16Speaker 1: So it worked, that's great.
- 7:18Speaker 3: It was exactly the same cause that capacitor of his
- 7:23Speaker 3: burnt out. It was ten years old, which is what
- 7:25Speaker 3: capacitors usually last about ten years. And he said, I
- 7:29Speaker 3: saw your video. I went to home depot. They had
- 7:32Speaker 3: the capacitor there. I bought it. I followed the instructions
- 7:36Speaker 3: on the video. I replaced it. You know, you have
- 7:38Speaker 3: to discharge it because you know it's a capacitor. It
- 7:41Speaker 3: can kill you.
- 7:42Speaker 1: So he's like something to remember, Well, yeah, I.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Know, seriously. So he discharged it properly, unhooked it, put
- 7:49Speaker 3: the new capacitor in, hooked it back up, bam ac.
- 7:53Speaker 3: He's like, you just save me a thousand dollars. I'm like, well,
- 7:56Speaker 3: I guess I know who's buying my beer today.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 8:00Speaker 2: I mean about the compensation charge.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Yeah, well yeah, I mean. But but the thing is
- 8:04Speaker 3: is this, this is the kind of stuff that every
- 8:06Speaker 3: homeowner should know how to do the basic stuff.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Well and you know what, think about this too, justin
- 8:12Speaker 1: you know, they used to teach some of this stuff
- 8:15Speaker 1: in high school. They don't do that anymore. No, same
- 8:18Speaker 1: with auto auto shop. Used to learn auto shop. Heck,
- 8:21Speaker 1: I learned computers in high school. I don't even know
- 8:24Speaker 1: if they do that anymore. Well, I'm sure they do
- 8:27Speaker 1: a kind of that. But I mean, you could find
- 8:30Speaker 1: the solution to these in these videos that are available
- 8:33Speaker 1: on YouTube.
- 8:33Speaker 3: There's so many videos out there on YouTube that are
- 8:36Speaker 3: actually helpful. I mean, I know some people say, you know,
- 8:38Speaker 3: YouTube is just full of junk, and you know it,
- 8:41Speaker 3: it really is. I mean, but it also it depends
- 8:43Speaker 3: on what you want to watch. I mean, the algorithm
- 8:46Speaker 3: will start to tailor your experience to what you're currently watching.
- 8:51Speaker 3: So I went and I watched a ton of videos
- 8:53Speaker 3: on how to repair your h BAC, how to clean
- 8:56Speaker 3: your water heater, you know, tankless water heater, how to
- 8:59Speaker 3: repair an undersync garbage disposal, how you know, things like that,
- 9:06Speaker 3: And all of a sudden, now I'm starting to get
- 9:08Speaker 3: more and more of these home repair videos because that's
- 9:11Speaker 3: what I watch, and I learned stuff from this, and
- 9:14Speaker 3: so far, what I've been able to do is replace
- 9:18Speaker 3: the lights in the master bathroom, replace the faucets in
- 9:21Speaker 3: the master bathroom, replace the cocking around a sink in
- 9:26Speaker 3: the spare bathroom, fix my ac. Wow, unclog the garbage
- 9:33Speaker 3: disposal because we had a clog in it, and I
- 9:35Speaker 3: was able to do that super easily.
- 9:38Speaker 1: These are things that happened normally.
- 9:39Speaker 3: I mean, yes, and these are the things that my
- 9:41Speaker 3: neighbors on our little Homeowner's Facebook page, they're calling, They're
- 9:45Speaker 3: asking people, Oh, does anybody have a technician that they
- 9:48Speaker 3: know of that can come out and repair a garbage disposal.
- 9:50Speaker 3: I'm like, dude, you're about to spend five hundred dollars
- 9:54Speaker 3: to have somebody come out and do this, and you
- 9:55Speaker 3: could do it yourself for nothing.
- 9:58Speaker 1: I did the same thing when it came to garbage disposal,
- 10:01Speaker 1: although I had to watch a couple of videos to
- 10:05Speaker 1: nail it. And you know, you have to be specific
- 10:07Speaker 1: in your search, Like if you're looking for maybe you
- 10:10Speaker 1: know a specific type of garbage disposal, specific type of sync,
- 10:14Speaker 1: you know it's good to you. Sure, you may have
- 10:16Speaker 1: to go down a rabbit hole to find exactly what
- 10:19Speaker 1: it is or tailor your search is, but you know
- 10:22Speaker 1: you're gonna be able to and that's what I ended
- 10:24Speaker 1: up doing and replace the garbage disposal myself, and to
- 10:27Speaker 1: this day it's still working. It still works. Okay, So
- 10:31Speaker 1: again you can do this with cars, help some computers.
- 10:34Speaker 1: You could do it with your yard. You want to
- 10:37Speaker 1: know how to put something in your yard, you could
- 10:39Speaker 1: even do that as well.
- 10:40Speaker 3: I've learned a lot from it, and honestly, I mean,
- 10:42Speaker 3: I'm loving what the content that YouTube has and and
- 10:47Speaker 3: how you can learn so much about how to repair.
- 10:49Speaker 3: I mean, there's there's almost a video for everything.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Do you subscribe to these channels? Like when you find
- 10:55Speaker 1: a maybe a creator that's doing a lot of different
- 10:59Speaker 1: home repairs.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. If I find them and what
- 11:02Speaker 3: they've given me is useful to me, I will make
- 11:05Speaker 3: sure to do exactly what they ask, and that is
- 11:07Speaker 3: to make sure to like and subscribe because you know,
- 11:10Speaker 3: it obviously helps them out, but it helps me out
- 11:13Speaker 3: because then it changes the algorithm to instead of showing me,
- 11:17Speaker 3: you know, conspiracy theory videos, which I don't know how
- 11:21Speaker 3: that ended up on my channel, right.
- 11:23Speaker 2: But I could see that.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Yeah, well okay, well whatever, but anyway, it's changed the
- 11:28Speaker 3: algorithm to show me more of these home repairs. So
- 11:31Speaker 3: I might be sitting there at night and you know,
- 11:33Speaker 3: Mysa's like, hey, let's watch a little YouTube. Let's see
- 11:35Speaker 3: what's on YouTube. And I'm like, oh, the HVAC guy's
- 11:37Speaker 3: got a new video. And she's like, yeah, I'm going
- 11:39Speaker 3: to bed.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Yeah, that's probably not something she'd want to watch.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Do you have a new side hustle now, Justin, Like,
- 11:44Speaker 2: Justin's just fix it or something.
- 11:48Speaker 3: I'm not quite the handyman yet.
- 11:49Speaker 1: No.
- 11:50Speaker 3: There, we do have a couple of handymen in the
- 11:51Speaker 3: neighborhood that take care of that. But I do have
- 11:53Speaker 3: a new side hustle. We can talk about that later.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Oh okay, I like that. That's good. Slike, how about you.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I know you've been keeping busy with the well, we
- 12:00Speaker 1: had the storms here. Justin is in Denver for those
- 12:03Speaker 1: that don't know, Slick is actually in Tucson. We had
- 12:06Speaker 1: storms that and it's been a different monsoon season. I
- 12:09Speaker 1: remember last year thinking, eh, it's kind of week week.
- 12:12Speaker 1: The year before it was kind of weak. This one
- 12:15Speaker 1: kind of has played out pretty good so far.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I see, yeah, and we're being in Arizona. I've always
- 12:20Speaker 2: been of the mind that we need the water. Just
- 12:22Speaker 2: just bring it, just skick it over. Now, A bad
- 12:25Speaker 2: story about this. I mean, this is a kind of
- 12:27Speaker 2: a side story. Just a couple of days ago and
- 12:28Speaker 2: we had rain. It wasn't that that about a week
- 12:31Speaker 2: week and a half ago. I guess we had a
- 12:32Speaker 2: big storm. Yeah, but a couple of Sunday, Yeah, yeah,
- 12:35Speaker 2: a couple of days ago we had some rain and
- 12:37Speaker 2: I was out and I forgot how water flows in Tucson.
- 12:42Speaker 3: So just you forgot how water described it.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Some people, Well, it flows differently in Tucson.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it doesn't. I don't know if this will make
- 12:50Speaker 2: sense to people, but I will try. So I was
- 12:52Speaker 2: let's say, ten blocks away. It was ten blocks south
- 12:55Speaker 2: from where I live, meaning that I had to cross
- 12:57Speaker 2: some streets that carry water from east to west, and
- 13:01Speaker 2: I forget all about that part. So as I'm trying
- 13:03Speaker 2: to walk home, I come to the first street and
- 13:05Speaker 2: it's flowing. So a couple hours later, I decide, Okay,
- 13:08Speaker 2: I'm definitely going to try to walk through this made
- 13:12Speaker 2: But that's when I forgot there was a street following
- 13:14Speaker 2: it that's doing the same thing.
- 13:16Speaker 3: If I remember correctly with Tucson, because I used to
- 13:18Speaker 3: live in Tucson as well. That's where Andy and I
- 13:20Speaker 3: and Slick met. Water in Tucson either is nonexistent or
- 13:25Speaker 3: it is torrential.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, when it comes to storming. Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 13:30Speaker 1: And we've had the torrential lately so that.
- 13:32Speaker 3: I remember one time when I was a kid, the monsoon.
- 13:35Speaker 3: It was a monsoon season and we went to one
- 13:37Speaker 3: of the wash. I can't remember which wash. It was,
- 13:39Speaker 3: that wash that went right behind the fries at like Oracle,
- 13:42Speaker 3: And first we were there and they were like, hey,
- 13:44Speaker 3: there's a monsoon, check this out. And so we were
- 13:47Speaker 3: just standing there in this heat and I'm like, what
- 13:49Speaker 3: are we doing here? And They're like just wait, just wait.
- 13:52Speaker 3: And then all of a sudden, I felt like a
- 13:54Speaker 3: cold breeze come over me. And I was like and
- 13:58Speaker 3: they're like, oh, here comes, here comes, here comes. And
- 14:00Speaker 3: I look down the wash and there was just a
- 14:02Speaker 3: wall of water and debris like logs and sticks and plants,
- 14:08Speaker 3: but it was a wall of water and just like that,
- 14:11Speaker 3: it was just boom, a massive flood in that whole area.
- 14:16Speaker 1: That's they have to remind every year. They have to
- 14:17Speaker 1: remind people stay out of the washes. Because it may
- 14:20Speaker 1: look you know, dry, and everything may look good and
- 14:24Speaker 1: it just comes in like crazy, or even people that
- 14:27Speaker 1: drive across these areas that have had minimal flooding that
- 14:31Speaker 1: they think they can go through it, and then another
- 14:34Speaker 1: wave will come in and it just knocks the cars,
- 14:37Speaker 1: the cars off the road. I mean, it's it's been
- 14:39Speaker 1: it's been pretty crazy. So yeah, it's been bad. Luckily,
- 14:42Speaker 1: I have only heard one story so far about lightning. Well,
- 14:46Speaker 1: there was one story about a car getting hit by
- 14:48Speaker 1: lightning at a fry shopping center out towards us A
- 14:53Speaker 1: Central too. So I don't know if you heard about
- 14:54Speaker 1: that one slick, but carbage just sitting there got zapped
- 14:58Speaker 1: by lightning and pretty much destroyed the car. There was
- 15:02Speaker 1: another one. I've only heard one story about electronics being zapped.
- 15:07Speaker 1: The house took a hit and basically took out the TVs, computers,
- 15:12Speaker 1: a laptop that was plugged in, some appliances. I mean,
- 15:15Speaker 1: did just major damage to that, and they did not
- 15:19Speaker 1: have search suppression on it.
- 15:21Speaker 3: We have that same problem at my job, water World,
- 15:25Speaker 3: you know where I work here in Denver because water
- 15:28Speaker 3: World sits on a hill and so we're the highest
- 15:32Speaker 3: point in that area. So when a storm does roll over, obviously,
- 15:36Speaker 3: being that it's a giant water park that obviously already
- 15:38Speaker 3: attracts lightning, and then the fact that we're high up
- 15:42Speaker 3: it also at tracks more lightning. So we've got these
- 15:44Speaker 3: giant lightning towers that look like giant flagpoles, right. Their
- 15:48Speaker 3: whole job is just to you know, take the lightning.
- 15:50Speaker 3: But from time to time we will get hit with
- 15:53Speaker 3: lightning on one of our buildings. And even though we
- 15:57Speaker 3: have search protectors on every device for you know, computer network, whatever,
- 16:03Speaker 3: it doesn't matter a lightning bolt. You take a direct
- 16:06Speaker 3: hit from a lightning bolt, it's gonna fry everything.
- 16:09Speaker 1: The plus sides of this, if you buy one with
- 16:12Speaker 1: enhanced jewel protection, generally you're gonna get a guarantee or
- 16:15Speaker 1: a warranty, whether it be for Monster APC. They carry
- 16:19Speaker 1: warranties on a lot of those. So at least if
- 16:22Speaker 1: you've taken that warranties, yeah, you've taken that step. I
- 16:24Speaker 1: don't know if you've ever tried to cash in on
- 16:26Speaker 1: one of those.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Oh yeah, no, we have. Definitely.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Do they pay, Oh yeah, they'll pay. They pay good.
- 16:31Speaker 3: I mean, it's not like it's not instant. I mean
- 16:33Speaker 3: usually you have to come out of pocket to replace
- 16:36Speaker 3: things and then they reimburse you, you know, a certain
- 16:38Speaker 3: portion of it. But you know, yeah, they do stand
- 16:41Speaker 3: by their word. But it's just just the nature of
- 16:43Speaker 3: the beast man. I mean, where we're at and what
- 16:45Speaker 3: we do. I mean, you're gonna get a lightning and
- 16:48Speaker 3: so no matter what we can do to prevent it,
- 16:50Speaker 3: there's really nothing you can do. You might get a
- 16:51Speaker 3: serve protector that says, I don't know, ten thousand jewel protection,
- 16:55Speaker 3: fifty thousand jewel protection, a lightning strike is like twenty millions.
- 17:00Speaker 3: I mean, there's nothing you can do about that.
- 17:02Speaker 1: One of the things though, that I and a lot
- 17:04Speaker 1: of people don't know, and I'd like to mention it
- 17:06Speaker 1: because here's some I found out about in a YouTube video.
- 17:10Speaker 1: When you have a surge hall, when you get a
- 17:12Speaker 1: search protector, and we've all been there, where you're in
- 17:15Speaker 1: the house and the lights flicker, maybe power goes out,
- 17:18Speaker 1: takes a little while, and then comes back up. Every
- 17:21Speaker 1: time you get a surge on one of those surge suppressors,
- 17:25Speaker 1: it will degrade the quality of the protection and the
- 17:28Speaker 1: suppression for that surge protector. So if you think about it,
- 17:32Speaker 1: if you live like in Tucson where we get a
- 17:34Speaker 1: lot of electrical storms during the monsoon season, you've taken
- 17:37Speaker 1: about seven eight nine hits on that suppressor. You may
- 17:41Speaker 1: want to really start thinking about, Okay, time to replace
- 17:44Speaker 1: that because you're not going to get that kind of
- 17:47Speaker 1: protection you would get with one brand new out of
- 17:49Speaker 1: the box that has never taken a suppress you know,
- 17:52Speaker 1: a suppression before.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Well another thing too is, you know, most new homes,
- 17:58Speaker 3: you know, built within let's say the last ten years,
- 18:00Speaker 3: because our home is ten years old, they actually put
- 18:03Speaker 3: a whole home surge protector in the panel. So that's
- 18:08Speaker 3: like your first line of defense, right, So that will
- 18:11Speaker 3: absorb you know, a certain amount of jewels when a
- 18:14Speaker 3: lightning strike, and then whatever is residual that makes it through.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Hopefully then your APC's, you know, your battery backups and
- 18:23Speaker 3: your surge protectors in your house will then absorb the
- 18:25Speaker 3: rest of it.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Yeah, that's something I have to do. I won't do
- 18:29Speaker 1: it because I know I will frizz my hair and
- 18:32Speaker 1: you know, be skeletal if I try to replay. Yeah,
- 18:35Speaker 1: it looked like slick.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Is that where you're going? With us.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Yeah. Basically, so the house in Hunting the Beach was
- 18:43Speaker 1: built in nineteen sixty four. I believe my dad replaced
- 18:48Speaker 1: the power panel in around seventy six, seventy seven. It's
- 18:53Speaker 1: never been replaced ever since. And so we're talking eighty ninety.
- 18:57Speaker 1: You know, we're talking almost forty years. It's time to
- 19:00Speaker 1: replace the panel. As my son does does say that
- 19:03Speaker 1: because he lives in the house, stuff switches off sometimes.
- 19:07Speaker 3: So just just going back to that comment about Slick
- 19:10Speaker 3: right there for a minute. If if you guys have
- 19:13Speaker 3: never actually seen Slick and or maybe you don't watch
- 19:16Speaker 3: the video cast of this, just imagine Daniel Stern and
- 19:21Speaker 3: home alone when he gets electrocuted. That's basically what Slick
- 19:27Speaker 3: looks like with the white hair frizzed out. That's that's
- 19:31Speaker 3: he looks, just like Daniel Stern getting electrocuted and home alone.
- 19:34Speaker 2: I thought you were going to go with a lot
- 19:35Speaker 2: of people have been going with Einstein lately. Hey, Eroin Stein,
- 19:38Speaker 2: how you doing?
- 19:38Speaker 1: Oh yeah, like you kind of see it's kind of
- 19:40Speaker 1: got that way kind of kind yeah. I mean, I've
- 19:42Speaker 1: known Slick so many years though I've seen it. I've
- 19:45Speaker 1: seen the style change over the years. So we do
- 19:47Speaker 1: have a lot to talk about. I mean, there's been
- 19:49Speaker 1: a lot that has happened in the world of tech.
- 19:51Speaker 1: We really have not been able to talk about the
- 19:53Speaker 1: big issue, which was Microsoft, of course, and CrowdStrike, that
- 19:57Speaker 1: whole debacle. Who would affect it? Who? It didn't? A
- 20:00Speaker 1: Some people thought, oh, it had nothing to do with me,
- 20:02Speaker 1: so I was fine. And then on record day, the
- 20:05Speaker 1: day that we are recording this show, Microsoft had another outage,
- 20:10Speaker 1: the second global outage in less than two weeks, but
- 20:13Speaker 1: this one impacted Microsoft three sixty five services. Although I
- 20:18Speaker 1: was able to use Microsoft three sixty five for you know,
- 20:21Speaker 1: my employer. We were able to log in, so we
- 20:23Speaker 1: didn't seem to have an issue. Did CrowdStrike? Did it
- 20:26Speaker 1: affect you at all?
- 20:28Speaker 3: Justin No, thankfully not. I thought it was going to
- 20:31Speaker 3: affect us, but no, we don't. We don't actually use CrowdStrike,
- 20:34Speaker 3: and neither do any of our you know, online providers
- 20:38Speaker 3: or whatever.
- 20:38Speaker 1: So we were actually very lucky slake. How about you?
- 20:40Speaker 2: Oh yeah, So apparently in in my neighborhood, let's say, yeah,
- 20:45Speaker 2: those who utilized the crowd strike services noticed issues. Let's
- 20:50Speaker 2: say about six pm local time, the support technicians, et cetera.
- 20:56Speaker 2: And I guess it really took effect hard time after midnight.
- 21:01Speaker 2: From what I can gather now, I just happened to
- 21:04Speaker 2: decide to go into a government office that morning early, right,
- 21:09Speaker 2: So I go in about oh, I don't know, I'm
- 21:11Speaker 2: gonna say six, seven o'clock. So I'm in earlierly before
- 21:13Speaker 2: anybody's office and stuff like that. And I'm aware of
- 21:16Speaker 2: the news because I had the new I leave. I'm
- 21:18Speaker 2: a news junkie, current events junk I leave the TV
- 21:20Speaker 2: on script's news all night, you know, So three am,
- 21:23Speaker 2: I'm aware of what's going on the system I used.
- 21:26Speaker 2: The the computer and the software and the services I
- 21:29Speaker 2: use are licensed by a government agency that uses CrowdStrike.
- 21:33Speaker 2: I didn't realize I had it on my computer. But
- 21:35Speaker 2: so I get into the office, I fired up, and
- 21:37Speaker 2: I'm I'm off and running. Man, I'm doing stuff, and
- 21:39Speaker 2: I'm seeing email messages come into my official government email
- 21:43Speaker 2: address saying, yeah, we know, we got problems, and everybody's offline.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I mean, you know, like everybody's offline and you can't
- 21:49Speaker 2: do this, and we're gonna have to They're gonna have
- 21:51Speaker 2: to manually come around, which they did and run a
- 21:54Speaker 2: script on every computer. Yeah. So they set the it
- 21:59Speaker 2: team out very early in the morning to just all
- 22:03Speaker 2: over the city. Let's just say all over the city.
- 22:06Speaker 2: So they walk in. The guy walks into the office
- 22:08Speaker 2: that I'm in and he's like, I'm here to fix
- 22:10Speaker 2: the computer. So he starts to back. I'm in the front.
- 22:12Speaker 2: He starts to back. It works his way to me
- 22:14Speaker 2: and he says, uh. He says, I'm here to fix
- 22:17Speaker 2: your computer. And I said mine is working. He goes, what, Yeah,
- 22:20Speaker 2: mine's working fine. Now, admittedly, I've made some modifications to
- 22:26Speaker 2: the enterprice of the Windows discussion, and I tried to
- 22:30Speaker 2: warn him. You know, I've also worked for Microsoft, and
- 22:33Speaker 2: I've tried to warn people about handing your systems and
- 22:36Speaker 2: your services over to a company or whatever and then
- 22:40Speaker 2: just walking away. I tried to warn and this is
- 22:42Speaker 2: to me, this is exactly what happened.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Yeah, And a lot of people were blaming Microsoft at this,
- 22:47Speaker 1: and honestly, this was not a Microsoft issue. This is
- 22:50Speaker 1: not a program that the general you know, homeowner might
- 22:52Speaker 1: may be using. The fix for It was pretty simple
- 22:56Speaker 1: unless you were administering a computer, say over the net,
- 23:01Speaker 1: and you know, maybe you were you know, you were
- 23:04Speaker 1: doing the technical support for a system. I mean you
- 23:08Speaker 1: had to try and get into it over the net.
- 23:10Speaker 1: How did you do that? That's where a lot of
- 23:11Speaker 1: people ran into, you know, issues with that. You know,
- 23:14Speaker 1: this is just one of those things one company pushes out.
- 23:18Speaker 1: And who pushes out an update on a weekend? I
- 23:21Speaker 1: mean it was a Friday.
- 23:22Speaker 3: It's like, that's why they call it read only Fridays.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Yeah, who Yeah, who pushes an update? You don't do that?
- 23:28Speaker 1: Did you see the famous tweet or I'm famous? But
- 23:31Speaker 1: like it went kind of viral. It was a tweet
- 23:34Speaker 1: of a guy and I'm pretty sure it was fake.
- 23:36Speaker 1: It was probably just you know, set in jest, but
- 23:39Speaker 1: it was a guy. It was like a young guy
- 23:40Speaker 1: and he was taking a selfie with the crowd Strike
- 23:43Speaker 1: company building logo behind.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Him and he was like, first day at CrowdStrike, just
- 23:47Speaker 3: pushed out a small update, no big deal, going to
- 23:50Speaker 3: take the rest of the day off.
- 23:52Speaker 1: There's another one with actor Wayne Knight, who you know
- 23:54Speaker 1: from Seinfeld but most people will recognize him also from
- 23:58Speaker 1: Jurassic Park. He played the it guy in Jurassic Park
- 24:02Speaker 1: and somebody put a picture of him in front of
- 24:05Speaker 1: that same crowd Strike you know office with a big
- 24:08Speaker 1: smile on his face. So yeah, I mean you could
- 24:11Speaker 1: make you could kind of make light of it, but
- 24:13Speaker 1: a lot of it, people were working overtime, were stressed,
- 24:17Speaker 1: you know, the whole bit.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Well, our guy Matt, you know Matt from you know
- 24:21Speaker 3: with us on tech talk he is a crowd strike admin, yep,
- 24:26Speaker 3: and he had just gotten back from a cruise. He
- 24:30Speaker 3: was on vacation and he came back into this debacle.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Poor guy.
- 24:35Speaker 3: Yeah it yeah, it's not it's not been well for him.
- 24:38Speaker 1: All Right, we're gonna take a quick break. We come back.
- 24:41Speaker 1: I have been having a lot of fun and I'm
- 24:44Speaker 1: glad that slick is here, a lot of fun with
- 24:46Speaker 1: Linux and slick is can answer a couple of questions
- 24:50Speaker 1: I have on it. But got a new distro you
- 24:52Speaker 1: might want to take a look at. We'll be back.
- 24:54Speaker 1: I'm Andy Taylor, I am Slick and I'm justin.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Let me find us on the web tech talk radio
- 25:00Speaker 3: dot com.
- 25:01Speaker 1: We'll be right back. And that fact to tech talk Radio.
- 25:07Speaker 1: So I'm still playing around with win Boom too, and
- 25:10Speaker 1: I'm wait, I'm sorry one more time win Boom too.
- 25:14Speaker 1: When win boom to or one wouldn't. Yeah, that's what
- 25:18Speaker 1: that's what you call it. I talked to to Sean
- 25:21Speaker 1: about it a couple of weeks ago in the show,
- 25:23Speaker 1: and you hadn't heard what had happened. I bought that
- 25:26Speaker 1: TPM two point zero plug in for my motherboard because
- 25:30Speaker 1: I wanted to tell you to do that. I want well,
- 25:32Speaker 1: I wanted to upgrade to Windows eleven and I needed
- 25:34Speaker 1: the TPM two point oh. So I went ahead, I
- 25:37Speaker 1: bought it. It arrived, I plugged it in and it
- 25:41Speaker 1: saw it. I was so excited. And then wouldn't let
- 25:43Speaker 1: me upgrade to Windows eleven because it said my processor
- 25:47Speaker 1: was not certified even though it was an I seven
- 25:51Speaker 1: sixty six hundred, it was a seventh generation processor and
- 25:55Speaker 1: because of that, uh, the Microsoft would not qualify it
- 26:00Speaker 1: as a security and Sean was like, you know what,
- 26:02Speaker 1: you know, there's reasons for it the whole bit. So,
- 26:04Speaker 1: and I could not even buy another motherboard or another
- 26:09Speaker 1: processor that would fit that motherboard. That motherboard wouldn't support
- 26:13Speaker 1: higher generation.
- 26:14Speaker 3: So and then you get that, then you have to
- 26:16Speaker 3: get a new raum.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and then yeah, that's ridiculous. So I thought, so
- 26:19Speaker 1: now I understand, all right. So what I ended up
- 26:22Speaker 1: doing is I was reading this story about when boontu
- 26:25Speaker 1: and basically it's I've used them boom too before I've
- 26:28Speaker 1: done it. I remember being extremely easy, and I thought, well,
- 26:31Speaker 1: let me go online and look more into this. And
- 26:34Speaker 1: I looked in and I went to the official website.
- 26:36Speaker 1: So I thought, let's try it. So I downloaded it,
- 26:39Speaker 1: burned an ISO. And for those wondering how it's what's
- 26:42Speaker 1: the cost, there was no cost involved if I wanted to.
- 26:45Speaker 1: If I wanted to, uh maybe donate, which I did,
- 26:48Speaker 1: which was thirty five bucks to the developers for the
- 26:51Speaker 1: power tools I could have that. I got to the computer,
- 26:55Speaker 1: changed out a hard drive, so I kept my original files,
- 26:57Speaker 1: put a new one one terrorbyte as this in there
- 27:01Speaker 1: and installed it. And it's like wind It looks just
- 27:03Speaker 1: like Windows Windows. It's like Windows eleven is sitting on
- 27:07Speaker 1: my computer. It's what does the what does the start
- 27:09Speaker 1: button look like? Is it the Linux logo instead of
- 27:12Speaker 1: it's the Windows and that there's a couple of reviews
- 27:15Speaker 1: that have been saying that they're going to run into
- 27:17Speaker 1: problems because they're using what looks like official Windows icons
- 27:22Speaker 1: and the whole bit.
- 27:23Speaker 3: You know, it would be funny is if they just
- 27:25Speaker 3: put like literally a picture of like an old cottage
- 27:29Speaker 3: window or something right like just just as the start button,
- 27:33Speaker 3: like an old wooden duel frame cottage window. You know
- 27:37Speaker 3: what I'm talking about. Yep, Yeah, that'd be funny.
- 27:39Speaker 1: But I got to be honest, and I really like it.
- 27:42Speaker 1: It's been great. We're using it right now in the
- 27:45Speaker 1: Zoom call. I was able to, you know, download Zoom skyes.
- 27:49Speaker 3: How is the application support then?
- 27:52Speaker 1: Pretty good? I mean I haven't run into any issues.
- 27:54Speaker 1: I've done done the updates every day. I have not
- 27:57Speaker 1: been able to install nor on it because of course
- 28:01Speaker 1: I have the Norton System Suite. Don't make fun of me,
- 28:04Speaker 1: but I pay for it biting my tongue. So yeah,
- 28:06Speaker 1: I know you are Norton support Linux. I don't think it.
- 28:11Speaker 1: I don't think it is because I couldn't find I
- 28:12Speaker 1: couldn't find that support. So yeah, E set would be one.
- 28:17Speaker 1: I would think that would.
- 28:18Speaker 3: But here's the thing though, you're talking about Linux, right,
- 28:23Speaker 3: which is you know, Linux is based off of Unix.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Linux doesn't necessarily require anti virus because viruses aren't written
- 28:34Speaker 3: for Linux. Yeah, they're written for Windows because ninety five
- 28:38Speaker 3: percent of the world uses Windows or whatever it.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Is, so they're gonna be the biggest target. Yeah.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Yeah, so you're not gonna get very much malware or
- 28:46Speaker 3: viruses on a Linux machine.
- 28:49Speaker 1: It's been really pretty good. I like the experience. And
- 28:53Speaker 1: you know, Slick has been using Linux and different distributions
- 28:56Speaker 1: for a while and I was dying to tell them, dude,
- 28:59Speaker 1: have you looked at when yet? Because I do like it. Well,
- 29:02Speaker 1: what are you running, Slick? Uh?
- 29:05Speaker 2: I'm running on one I'm running I'm trying to think
- 29:08Speaker 2: of the name of theirs. There are three major versions
- 29:10Speaker 2: of U boom Too, and I'm running the media version. Uh,
- 29:14Speaker 2: with all the media editing tools. I'm running down on
- 29:16Speaker 2: one machine. On another machine, I am just running a
- 29:20Speaker 2: think straight o boom Too, you know, just using it
- 29:24Speaker 2: as a you know, with with with all the accessible
- 29:28Speaker 2: and compatible software services. I got a lot of Linux
- 29:33Speaker 2: machines around. I just handed somebody one. I gave it
- 29:36Speaker 2: to them for free. I'm trying to remember Manjero, I
- 29:39Speaker 2: put Majero on that one and gave it to somebody.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Let me ask about this one boom Too, because I'm
- 29:43Speaker 2: as we're talking. I'm looking because I'm not familiar with
- 29:45Speaker 2: one bo to w I N b U N t
- 29:49Speaker 2: U Is that correct? W U N wouldn't I just
- 29:53Speaker 2: because I did find win boo too, But what you
- 29:56Speaker 2: were saying didn't fit. Quick script, Oh.
- 30:00Speaker 3: My gosh, this is literally Windows eleven. I'm looking at
- 30:03Speaker 3: a screenshot of it. It is literally Windows eleven.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Yeah, you look at it and it's uh, it just
- 30:08Speaker 1: it's spitting image of it. You can have, uh, you'd
- 30:11Speaker 1: have the tools set up the same way runs Google Chrome,
- 30:15Speaker 1: runs Microsoft Edge, has my favorites.
- 30:18Speaker 2: You know.
- 30:18Speaker 1: He was able to load my password manager into it.
- 30:21Speaker 1: I'm pretty, like I said, pretty darn pleased with it.
- 30:24Speaker 1: The only thing I hadn't found although in the last
- 30:28Speaker 1: time we used it, Uh, the camera was a little
- 30:30Speaker 1: weird because I'm using the Logitech Prio and there's no
- 30:33Speaker 1: specific Linux software for it, but it looks like Linux
- 30:36Speaker 1: itself when I did. One of the updates. May have
- 30:39Speaker 1: fixed that because the camera's looking pretty good now.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Wow. So yeah, the Windows type interface on top of
- 30:45Speaker 2: Linux or BUTU and a version of a BOOTU which
- 30:48Speaker 2: is a derivative of Debian. So yes, I know it's
- 30:51Speaker 2: it's way too much. I just said, everybody I know.
- 30:53Speaker 2: But that's that's how it's layered out.
- 30:55Speaker 1: But here's the thing. Somebody has an older computer they
- 31:00Speaker 1: like I've done. I've got an old laptop, and I'm thinking,
- 31:02Speaker 1: you know what, I think that maybe this is something
- 31:05Speaker 1: I need to do is install it on that older
- 31:08Speaker 1: computer and give it a shot.
- 31:11Speaker 2: Because if you like the hardware, if it's good hardware,
- 31:13Speaker 2: I tell people, never ever until unless you're absolutely sure,
- 31:17Speaker 2: never throw away the hardware because.
- 31:20Speaker 1: I may be able to put life into it with
- 31:22Speaker 1: a Linux system. Right. So there's a there's a new
- 31:25Speaker 1: distribution that's out now, all right, This distribution is getting
- 31:29Speaker 1: a lot of attention. It is called linux Mint twenty two. Yeah,
- 31:34Speaker 1: and the official website is linuxmint dot com. That I'm thinking,
- 31:40Speaker 1: now I may go ahead and pull this drive out
- 31:44Speaker 1: and just go ahead and do linux Mint and give
- 31:46Speaker 1: that a shot and see how that experience is. Because
- 31:49Speaker 1: people are saying that with Cinnamon running on underneath it,
- 31:52Speaker 1: it's it's just perfect.
- 31:55Speaker 2: Right And if those are no When Andy says Cinnamon,
- 31:58Speaker 2: he's talking about the desktop, the interface. What looks like
- 32:00Speaker 2: they're different names for different types.
- 32:02Speaker 1: So you get that experience. But yet you're able to
- 32:06Speaker 1: work without some of the frustrations that some people have said.
- 32:09Speaker 1: And you know, my frustration was going to be end
- 32:11Speaker 1: of October of next year, I'm not going to have
- 32:14Speaker 1: support on this because you know, Microsoft is saying, well
- 32:19Speaker 1: a Windows ten support is going to go away, so
- 32:21Speaker 1: I wouldn't have those security safety updates. Why not take
- 32:24Speaker 1: a look at Linux and see what it can do?
- 32:26Speaker 3: Yeah, and Linux is yeah free unless you want to
- 32:29Speaker 3: donate the thirty five. I think that's an amazing it's
- 32:33Speaker 3: an amazing thing. Lenox is really making some good strides
- 32:37Speaker 3: recently in getting public support, and again with Windows eleven.
- 32:41Speaker 3: I mean, Windows eleven is is kind of been a flop.
- 32:43Speaker 3: I mean it's it's not that great. I mean, I've
- 32:46Speaker 3: thankfully had not too many problems with it. But then again,
- 32:51Speaker 3: I also didn't have any problems with Vista, and everybody
- 32:54Speaker 3: had problems with.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, so did you really?
- 32:58Speaker 3: I did not? Probably I didn't. Yeah, me too, I
- 33:00Speaker 3: did not have a problem with it. Now Windows, that
- 33:02Speaker 3: meant we're not going to go there.
- 33:03Speaker 1: Yeah's stay away from me or Bob, but let's stay
- 33:06Speaker 1: away from Microsoft Bob too. Yeah.
- 33:08Speaker 3: But but but you know, Linux is really making some
- 33:11Speaker 3: good strides. And you know, you look at things like Steam,
- 33:14Speaker 3: the gaming platform. Steam has a lot more support for
- 33:17Speaker 3: Linux games now and and and even with like Xbox
- 33:22Speaker 3: or whatever, like you want to do Xbox you can
- 33:24Speaker 3: put you can't put the Xbox app on a Linux,
- 33:26Speaker 3: but you can do streaming through the web browser on Xbox.
- 33:30Speaker 3: So Linux is really making a lot of good moves
- 33:33Speaker 3: and I really applaud them for that.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Yeah, so that distribute should linux mint dot com if
- 33:38Speaker 1: you want to take a look for that, uh and
- 33:41Speaker 1: check that out and see if if that's something that
- 33:43Speaker 1: may be able to work for you. Well, they like it.
- 33:47Speaker 2: The big problem used the version of Linux linux mint
- 33:50Speaker 2: before and it's strong. I mean it's sturdy. It is
- 33:52Speaker 2: rock solid.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Now.
- 33:53Speaker 3: The thing is is people that who might be a
- 33:55Speaker 3: little bit tech savvy but not like super when you
- 33:58Speaker 3: think of Linux, you might be scared. You might be thinking,
- 34:01Speaker 3: oh my god, command line and then the command line
- 34:03Speaker 3: interface and text all everything is everything's text. No, not anymore.
- 34:08Speaker 3: I mean it's still there. You can use it if
- 34:10Speaker 3: you want, you don't have to. And then that kind
- 34:13Speaker 3: of really started with a Buntu, a Boontu took that
- 34:17Speaker 3: major next step from getting away from the command line
- 34:21Speaker 3: to be more in of a graphical user interface or guy.
- 34:24Speaker 3: And then from there they just kept building upon that
- 34:27Speaker 3: graphical units interface to now where it's it's it's almost
- 34:31Speaker 3: indistinguishable from Windows eleven. Okay, but you can still use
- 34:34Speaker 3: it if you want. You can still use the command
- 34:36Speaker 3: line interface.
- 34:36Speaker 1: I have to ask this, is there a Linux distribution
- 34:39Speaker 1: that looks like Windows XP because that would make me
- 34:41Speaker 1: really happy.
- 34:42Speaker 3: Oh, I'm sure there probably is.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Somebody probably has a desktop that you can load into
- 34:49Speaker 2: the computer. Yeah, all right.
- 34:52Speaker 3: It's like real quick.
- 34:54Speaker 1: You've been you know, looking and delving into television choices,
- 34:59Speaker 1: and we've talked about you know, ATSC with three you know,
- 35:03Speaker 1: three point oh, three point zero, what's going to be happening.
- 35:05Speaker 1: You actually did a little investigation on this.
- 35:09Speaker 2: I get well, I did a lot of investor because
- 35:10Speaker 2: I was looking forward to it for the possible opportunities
- 35:13Speaker 2: of expansion features and stuff like that. So here in Tucson,
- 35:17Speaker 2: what we did they did most of the major stations,
- 35:20Speaker 2: if not all, of our television stations have upgraded to
- 35:22Speaker 2: ATSC three point zero, So it's there. So I did
- 35:26Speaker 2: invest in an ATSC three point zero, donor Oh so
- 35:31Speaker 2: I've got one of those. And you know today one
- 35:33Speaker 2: day one was kind of funny.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Guy.
- 35:34Speaker 2: I think I told the story already before because some
- 35:36Speaker 2: channels had DRM on them to realize management and I'm like, oh,
- 35:41Speaker 2: you're gonna lock us out of some stuff. Well, this
- 35:43Speaker 2: isn't fun.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Wait, so you would go to over the air, you know,
- 35:48Speaker 1: ATSC three point zero and over the channel and it
- 35:51Speaker 1: had DRM so you wouldn't be able to see it.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and it was ill autumn. It's not a problem.
- 35:56Speaker 2: I think it was KVOA and k gun kg un.
- 36:00Speaker 2: And I mean as I was scrolling through after I
- 36:02Speaker 2: did the scan for all the channels, I'm scrolling through
- 36:04Speaker 2: the channels that there was I'm able to receive. I
- 36:07Speaker 2: noticed that and with locks, and I'm like, oh, and
- 36:09Speaker 2: now they weren't. Those channels were not locked, but the
- 36:12Speaker 2: possibility of them locking me out was there. You know.
- 36:15Speaker 2: I was like, all right, this is great. What else?
- 36:19Speaker 2: So you know, right now here in Tucson, I'm not
- 36:24Speaker 2: going to push anybody to get an at SC three
- 36:26Speaker 2: point oh t TV And and they're they're starting to
- 36:29Speaker 2: advertise a lot now too. You know, hey, this TV
- 36:32Speaker 2: has got you know, the version three And I'm like, yeah, yeah,
- 36:35Speaker 2: save your money. Just calm down, save your money. Not
- 36:38Speaker 2: related to this, but maybe it is related to this.
- 36:40Speaker 2: I did notice that. So one of my favorite digital subchannels,
- 36:44Speaker 2: I call them the dot channels, but I learned the
- 36:46Speaker 2: official term. Now, I like nine point six here in Town,
- 36:50Speaker 2: which is script's news all the time. But I know,
- 36:53Speaker 2: and they were. I knew they were talking about it.
- 36:55Speaker 2: I didn't know they were going to do it. Me
- 36:56Speaker 2: TV was going to create a brand new channel of
- 36:58Speaker 2: their own. I don't know if you have it justin.
- 37:00Speaker 1: But do you know what I'm talking about? The idiots?
- 37:02Speaker 2: Okay, good, So which one?
- 37:04Speaker 1: Sov hang hang on, let me get there.
- 37:07Speaker 2: So on Saturdays, me TV does a three hour cartoon block,
- 37:11Speaker 2: and I'm always there with my bowl of cheerios. Man,
- 37:13Speaker 2: I am right there.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Warner Brothers, because of course you are.
- 37:18Speaker 2: I can't afford comic books anymore.
- 37:20Speaker 1: Well, they have me TV Tunes, which is you get
- 37:23Speaker 1: cartoons all the time. Yep.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the one that just kicked off. What a
- 37:26Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago, and I have been on it.
- 37:29Speaker 2: I mean they've They've got a cartoon that can't stand
- 37:31Speaker 2: but I will watch they're there Marine Boy. That was
- 37:35Speaker 2: the dumbest cartoon, idiot. Yeah, there is a speed racer.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Okay, go run to Warner Brothers stuff.
- 37:45Speaker 2: There's oh Scooby Dooes now on now.
- 37:47Speaker 1: I think I saw Heckle and Jackal Yep, yep, saw them,
- 37:50Speaker 1: Popeye and Olive Oil. I mean it's the cartoons that
- 37:54Speaker 1: you're gonna love. I mean, they're they're doing that. But
- 37:56Speaker 1: you know, you look at that and you think, wow,
- 37:58Speaker 1: there's there is to be an outlet for people who
- 38:01Speaker 1: don't want to subscribe to cable. And if they live
- 38:04Speaker 1: in a in a good area, they're going to be
- 38:06Speaker 1: able to pick this all up with a tutor. But
- 38:08Speaker 1: you're still saying, don't buy one yet.
- 38:10Speaker 3: Not yet.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Now this tuner I have also to get the let's say,
- 38:13Speaker 2: the additional features. It has a Wi Fi on it,
- 38:17Speaker 2: so this tuner connects. Yeah, this tuner connects to my
- 38:21Speaker 2: internet service, so it can. And so I'm based on
- 38:24Speaker 2: what I've heard about other ATSC three point zero TV
- 38:28Speaker 2: stations in other cities, but they've they've been doing so
- 38:33Speaker 2: there's interactivity. There's the possibility of interactivity between the viewers
- 38:38Speaker 2: and the television station. It's going to be through the internet.
- 38:40Speaker 2: It's not gonna be necessarily over the air. So all
- 38:42Speaker 2: the all the stuff that we're getting is coming over
- 38:44Speaker 2: the air. So once I put it online, like I said,
- 38:46Speaker 2: we're not doing any interactivity here in Tucson. But I've
- 38:50Speaker 2: heard what you know that there have been some in
- 38:53Speaker 2: other cities.
- 38:53Speaker 3: The thing about ATSC three, and you kind of brought
- 38:56Speaker 3: this up because your tuner is Internet connected and things
- 39:00Speaker 3: like that. Here's another aspect of this that people aren't realizing. Now.
- 39:05Speaker 3: I'm not trying to say don't go ATSC three. Okay,
- 39:09Speaker 3: it's the future. Everybody's gonna have to have it, no
- 39:11Speaker 3: matter what. You're gonna be forced upon it. But here's
- 39:14Speaker 3: the thing. Exactly what Slick was just talking about. Internet
- 39:17Speaker 3: connected device that gets his channels, gets the guide. It
- 39:21Speaker 3: also takes your data. It's taking your data and selling
- 39:27Speaker 3: your aggregated data of who's watching what to what time,
- 39:32Speaker 3: and it's selling it to the highest bidder. So these
- 39:34Speaker 3: TV companies, you know, these local TV companies, because they
- 39:38Speaker 3: are losing money like crazy. This was a big reason
- 39:42Speaker 3: why ATSC three was approved by the FCC because they
- 39:47Speaker 3: realized that with all these streaming services now local television
- 39:51Speaker 3: was dying. They did not have a profit stream and
- 39:55Speaker 3: they didn't have a stream of revenue stream because nobody
- 39:58Speaker 3: was watching.
- 39:59Speaker 1: The only way to get an is through news broadcasts
- 40:02Speaker 1: because they own control that, and there you go.
- 40:05Speaker 3: But people weren't even doing that anymore. They were just
- 40:07Speaker 3: going online to look at the news. So here comes
- 40:09Speaker 3: ATSC three and saying, hey, look, we can track all
- 40:13Speaker 3: of this data and then you can turn around and
- 40:16Speaker 3: sell it.
- 40:17Speaker 1: Right, Gonna be interesting to see what happens with that.
- 40:19Speaker 1: All Right, we get take another quick break, we come back.
- 40:22Speaker 1: You got you're thinking about another career too, justin that.
- 40:26Speaker 1: It's kind of interesting night gig. So we'll talk about
- 40:28Speaker 1: how you're gonna come up with that one with more
- 40:30Speaker 1: of tech Talk Radio. And I want to show you
- 40:32Speaker 1: something I bought at the bin store that I thought
- 40:35Speaker 1: this is pretty amazing stuff. When we come back, I'm
- 40:37Speaker 1: Ady Taylor Amslick and I'm Justin.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Find us on Facebook at Facebook dot com Forge last
- 40:43Speaker 3: tech Talkers.
- 40:45Speaker 1: We'll be right back now back to Chief Talk Radio.
- 40:49Speaker 3: So a couple of weeks ago, I got approached by
- 40:51Speaker 3: some friends of mine that they do the trivia night
- 40:54Speaker 3: over at the Bruce where I do my tributes every Wednesday.
- 40:57Speaker 1: During the gonna say, during the pandemic. It was It's
- 41:00Speaker 1: cool because I could log in and you were streaming
- 41:04Speaker 1: live and actually watch the trivia nights. That was a blast.
- 41:08Speaker 3: Yeah, And actually that really, honestly, that was one of
- 41:10Speaker 3: the reasons that Bruce was, you know, saved. They told
- 41:13Speaker 3: me it was because doing this kept people thinking about
- 41:17Speaker 3: Bruce and going there and buying the beers. Even though
- 41:19Speaker 3: they couldn't be there. They would go there and buy
- 41:21Speaker 3: the beer and they would watch the trivia nights and
- 41:24Speaker 3: it was great for both me and for them.
- 41:26Speaker 2: So I mean.
- 41:26Speaker 3: I I yeah, I loved it. I loved doing it,
- 41:29Speaker 3: and it was great, a great time. But they approached
- 41:33Speaker 3: me and said, hey, look, you know we're gonna have
- 41:35Speaker 3: a wedding. They're already married, but they just want to
- 41:37Speaker 3: have a ceremony. We want you to dj our wedding.
- 41:39Speaker 3: And I was like, oh, I uh, I just I
- 41:42Speaker 3: don't do that anymore, you know. And they're like, well,
- 41:44Speaker 3: you know, you said you were radio DJ and I
- 41:46Speaker 3: said yeah, and I you know, when I was living
- 41:48Speaker 3: in Japan. I was a club dj. I mean I was.
- 41:50Speaker 2: I was.
- 41:51Speaker 3: I was one of the better DJs in Tokyo. I
- 41:54Speaker 3: mean I was going up to Rapungi and DJing Friday
- 41:57Speaker 3: Saturday nights. I mean, I was, I was. I was
- 41:59Speaker 3: pretty good. But you know this is this is looking bad,
- 42:02Speaker 3: this twenty years ago, you know, so like I just
- 42:04Speaker 3: don't do anymore. I don't have any of the equipment,
- 42:06Speaker 3: you know, I don't have the turntables, I don't have
- 42:08Speaker 3: the software. I don't I don't have all the music anymore.
- 42:11Speaker 3: And they're like, please, please, we you know, please, we
- 42:14Speaker 3: want you to DJ or a wedding. And I'm like,
- 42:16Speaker 3: all right, let me look into it. So I looked
- 42:19Speaker 3: into it a little bit. I found this software called
- 42:21Speaker 3: Virtual DJ.
- 42:22Speaker 1: The best. It's good.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Virtual Virtual DJ is actually free to use. Now if
- 42:28Speaker 3: you're if you're doing performances, they're like, oh, you've got
- 42:30Speaker 3: to have a license to you know, perform you know whatever,
- 42:33Speaker 3: blah blah blah. But you can use it for free.
- 42:36Speaker 3: And then for music, I just I actually just I
- 42:41Speaker 3: subscribe a title. So title is like another like a
- 42:44Speaker 3: Spotify because Spotify does not allow this kind of stuff.
- 42:47Speaker 3: And this is where I'm really starting to get irked
- 42:49Speaker 3: with with Spotify. They're shutting down API access everywhere, like
- 42:53Speaker 3: it's just they're they're locking it down. They're drivingway customers.
- 42:57Speaker 3: And honestly, now that I've used Title, I've only used
- 42:59Speaker 3: Title here for about twelve hours now. I signed up
- 43:01Speaker 3: earlier today. I like it. And the good thing about
- 43:04Speaker 3: Title is it's it's it's lossless quality, Like every song
- 43:09Speaker 3: they do is lossless quality. And they have over ninety
- 43:12Speaker 3: million songs versus Spotify's what one hundred and twenty million,
- 43:16Speaker 3: one hundred and thirty million something like that, so pretty
- 43:19Speaker 3: much everything is there almost right. So you tie in
- 43:23Speaker 3: Title into into this program, and then you can buy hardware.
- 43:29Speaker 3: So like I looked online and they actually sell like
- 43:31Speaker 3: a DJ controller which comes with like the the two
- 43:35Speaker 3: paddles where you can like you know, tick ticket, you know, give.
- 43:38Speaker 1: It back wedding like that.
- 43:40Speaker 3: But yeah, yeah, well the fader and everything, you know,
- 43:42Speaker 3: like all the buttons, like like an actual traditional deck, right,
- 43:46Speaker 3: like a cdg CD deck. The thing was only one
- 43:50Speaker 3: hundred ninety nine dollars. Wow, And I was like, wait,
- 43:53Speaker 3: hold on, so you're telling me for the price of title,
- 43:56Speaker 3: which is nineteen ninety nine a month for the tie
- 43:59Speaker 3: into Virtual DJ plus the music, and one hundred and
- 44:02Speaker 3: ninety nine dollars for this, plus thirty five dollars for
- 44:06Speaker 3: a stand that would fit the fit the controller, plus
- 44:09Speaker 3: the laptop. I'm like, a set, but you need speakers, dude,
- 44:13Speaker 3: Well yeah, I know, but but the thing is, I'm
- 44:16Speaker 3: not gonna buy those. They're gonna rent those from a company,
- 44:18Speaker 3: and it's like two hundred and fifty bucks to rent
- 44:20Speaker 3: them for a weekend. Let's come with massive speakers enough
- 44:24Speaker 3: to fit one thousand people, and they're only gonna have
- 44:27Speaker 3: like one hundred, right, So this is gonna be well
- 44:29Speaker 3: over that. So anyway, I'm like, okay, so I could.
- 44:32Speaker 3: I could probably do this, but I was like, I
- 44:33Speaker 3: don't know if I want to get into this. Then
- 44:37Speaker 3: I looked up how much does a wedding DJ charge?
- 44:40Speaker 1: Oh boy, yeah, a wedding.
- 44:43Speaker 3: DJ, on average in twenty twenty four will charge anywhere
- 44:46Speaker 3: from two to three thousand dollars. That was my give
- 44:51Speaker 3: to seven hours of work.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Yep.
- 44:54Speaker 3: At that moment, I turned around and went to Amazon
- 44:56Speaker 3: and I bought all that damn equipment because I'm like,
- 45:01Speaker 3: hold up, if I spend two hundred and eighty dollars
- 45:04Speaker 3: and I can make three thousand, which obviously I'm not
- 45:06Speaker 3: gonna charge them three thousand because they're my friends. But yeah,
- 45:09Speaker 3: I might charge them two thousand, maybe fifteen hundred, maybe
- 45:13Speaker 3: fifteen hundred because they're gona rent the speakers, but still
- 45:16Speaker 3: fifteen hundred dollars for five hours of work, yes, please,
- 45:21Speaker 3: it's And you know, the thing is, it's a lot
- 45:22Speaker 3: of fun if you go out there with the idea
- 45:24Speaker 3: that you're gonna have fun, rather than because I've done him.
- 45:28Speaker 1: I've done them before too, and they're they're a blasts.
- 45:30Speaker 3: I'm having so much fun with this. I hooked up
- 45:33Speaker 3: my laptop to my my big surround sound speakers down here,
- 45:35Speaker 3: and I'm sitting here playing with this DJ software with Eric,
- 45:38Speaker 3: you know, Eric sitting you're playing his games on the
- 45:39Speaker 3: news system. Misa is sitting on the couch, and I'm
- 45:42Speaker 3: like mixing tracks back and forth. And my wife was like, ooh,
- 45:46Speaker 3: that was a smooth cut. And I'm like, DJ Spider's back, baby.
- 45:52Speaker 3: That was my that was my DJ name, that yeah,
- 45:55Speaker 3: twenty years ago. But dude, I am having so much
- 45:59Speaker 3: fun with this now, and I'm I'm like, oh my god,
- 46:00Speaker 3: I could literally do this because I've actually had requests
- 46:03Speaker 3: from people, like a lot of times during the holiday season.
- 46:06Speaker 3: They're like, oh, I know you do carry or not,
- 46:08Speaker 3: I mean trivia, but do you do like, you know,
- 46:10Speaker 3: just regular DJing, And I'm like, no, no, I don't,
- 46:13Speaker 3: but now, hey, I can do that. I could do
- 46:16Speaker 3: I could make a thousand dollars a night, you know,
- 46:19Speaker 3: over over you know, over the holiday season DJ and
- 46:21Speaker 3: a couple of company parties. I'm just having so much
- 46:23Speaker 3: fun with this and I get my new I get
- 46:25Speaker 3: the new controller here on like Thursday or Friday, I'm
- 46:27Speaker 3: not sure which day yet, but I'm gonna have so
- 46:30Speaker 3: much fun with this and I'm gonna give them the
- 46:31Speaker 3: best show of their lives.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it's getting on the microphone. Make sure you get
- 46:35Speaker 1: a microphone, you know, and then a microphone for the
- 46:38Speaker 1: people who have to make the toast that golden voice there's,
- 46:42Speaker 1: you know, And the thing is, it's all about the personality.
- 46:44Speaker 1: There's about maybe three or four wedding DJs that are
- 46:50Speaker 1: in southern this Tucson Green Valley area, you know, a
- 46:54Speaker 1: couple of them are in radio and one of them
- 46:56Speaker 1: is really good. And that's the thing. It's about that,
- 47:00Speaker 1: that that experience. You give them that personality. And you know,
- 47:04Speaker 1: we've been spoiled because when I got into this this stuff,
- 47:07Speaker 1: I had to carry crates of records. We didn't have
- 47:10Speaker 1: digital music back then, you know, we didn't even have
- 47:12Speaker 1: CDs that you would play. It was always vinyl, vinyl
- 47:16Speaker 1: on techniques, twelve hundreds and go that way. But now
- 47:19Speaker 1: I mean, you have you have you can have a party, Yeah,
- 47:23Speaker 1: you can. You could book a party and they say,
- 47:25Speaker 1: well we like country music. Well, there you go. There's
- 47:27Speaker 1: your your there's your drive, either title or your drive
- 47:30Speaker 1: of collected music that's country or disco or whatever. Speaking
- 47:36Speaker 1: of Southern Arizona, is is ah Duns Entertainment still in
- 47:40Speaker 1: business becausemember I used to work for them back when
- 47:42Speaker 1: I was in high school. Remember I don't I was.
- 47:44Speaker 3: It was the biggest, it was the biggest DJ company
- 47:47Speaker 3: in Southern Arizona. They they did a party for Whitney
- 47:50Speaker 3: Houston when.
- 47:51Speaker 1: The still alive.
- 47:52Speaker 3: I don't know, I've never I dj my own senior
- 47:55Speaker 3: prom with them because I lost my date. My date
- 47:59Speaker 3: dumped me on the day of the thing and I
- 48:01Speaker 3: ended up djaying the prom for her and yeah, that
- 48:05Speaker 3: was even much better than that. So that but no,
- 48:07Speaker 3: I don't know if that company is still around, But
- 48:08Speaker 3: I mean, yes, you're right, there's only a few different companies.
- 48:10Speaker 3: But personality is what makes it different. And that was
- 48:13Speaker 3: when I had worked for that company, Doune's Entertainment. That's
- 48:16Speaker 3: what they did because they they would have a DJ,
- 48:19Speaker 3: they would have a lighting technician whose job was solely
- 48:22Speaker 3: to play the lights, and then they would have a
- 48:25Speaker 3: hype guy and that person's job was just to get
- 48:28Speaker 3: out there with the crowded dance. And that's what made
- 48:32Speaker 3: that company different. And again, going back to your point
- 48:34Speaker 3: is it's not about the music or the equipment. It's
- 48:37Speaker 3: about the personality. And that's why my friends wanted to
- 48:40Speaker 3: hire me because they know my personality. They wanted me there.
- 48:44Speaker 3: They didn't want to hire anybody else. They wanted me.
- 48:46Speaker 1: You are gonna have to make sure you have the
- 48:47Speaker 1: chicken dance song and the electric.
- 48:51Speaker 3: They actually told me those are banned.
- 48:53Speaker 1: They're like, no, oh, good band, those are not my
- 48:57Speaker 1: favorite tudes. I'll tell you that much, Ben. There is
- 49:00Speaker 1: a product that's going to be coming out and it
- 49:02Speaker 1: was created by this this guy that is a Harvard dropout.
- 49:07Speaker 1: His name is Avi Schiffman, and they got they got
- 49:11Speaker 1: some funding and you talk about the side gig here
- 49:14Speaker 1: justin how about this one? Right? Apparently back when COVID
- 49:17Speaker 1: nineteen was out, he created a website that tracked it
- 49:20Speaker 1: and a lot of people loved it. Well, now this
- 49:23Speaker 1: new device, it's an AI device called Friend and what
- 49:26Speaker 1: it is is you wear it around your neck and
- 49:29Speaker 1: it's treated as a companion. So you've got this little
- 49:33Speaker 1: device that's there hanging by your neck and it's treated
- 49:36Speaker 1: as a companion. You can talk to it or talk
- 49:38Speaker 1: back to you, and it's all done by the artificial intelligence.
- 49:42Speaker 1: And it could also connect to your phone via Bluetooth
- 49:45Speaker 1: and so it's constantly listening to you. And they say
- 49:48Speaker 1: that it's really going to help a lot of people
- 49:50Speaker 1: combat loneliness. Now we're so smoovie about that. Yeah, we're
- 49:55Speaker 1: very skeptical of this kind of stuff. Called her Yes,
- 49:59Speaker 1: and who was in the Scarlett Johansson, right, Joaquin Phoenix
- 50:02Speaker 1: and Scarlett Rah Yeah. Yeah, he's calling it Friends. And
- 50:06Speaker 1: this product is gonna be out for about ninety nine
- 50:08Speaker 1: bucks but it reminded me. Do you remember tomaguccie. Oh yeah,
- 50:16Speaker 1: this is exactly what Toma Gotchi did. It was well, yeah,
- 50:19Speaker 1: but do you have to like feed this thing? You
- 50:22Speaker 1: gotta communicate with it and it'll just die if you don't.
- 50:25Speaker 1: Oh maybe not. I don't know. That would be awful.
- 50:27Speaker 3: Because that's what Tomagotchi did. But yeah, but no, I
- 50:30Speaker 3: get it. No, it makes it makes a lot of sense.
- 50:33Speaker 3: The comparison. I just don't know. Man, wearing a thing
- 50:36Speaker 3: about my neck. I mean, yes, I'm already carrying my
- 50:38Speaker 3: phone in my pocket, which is always listening to me anyway,
- 50:41Speaker 3: but just to have that device around my neck or
- 50:44Speaker 3: whatever it is.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Like that's always going to be listening.
- 50:47Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, about that.
- 50:50Speaker 1: Another break, we'll be back with more of tech talk Radio.
- 50:52Speaker 1: I'm Andy Taylor, I am Slick.
- 50:55Speaker 3: And I'm justin. Let me once again find us on
- 50:57Speaker 3: the web tech talk radio dot com.
- 50:58Speaker 1: We'll be right back and now fact to tech talk Radio.
- 51:02Speaker 1: What do remind you that if you want to reach
- 51:03Speaker 1: out to us, you've got a question for the show,
- 51:05Speaker 1: feel free to drop us a line. Just email us
- 51:08Speaker 1: tech guys at tech talk radio dot com and we'll
- 51:13Speaker 1: get to your question and if something you need and
- 51:14Speaker 1: answer on right away, something you're working on, we'll get
- 51:17Speaker 1: right back to you. But again tech guys at tech
- 51:19Speaker 1: talk radio dot com. So I was trying to explain
- 51:22Speaker 1: to Slick earlier about the bins stores Amazon bin stores,
- 51:27Speaker 1: and we're seeing that they're opening up in different parts
- 51:29Speaker 1: of the country, justin do you know if you have
- 51:32Speaker 1: a bin store in Denver, you don't know what a
- 51:36Speaker 1: store is.
- 51:36Speaker 2: So what it.
- 51:37Speaker 1: Is is there is stuff that's returned to Amazon, and
- 51:43Speaker 1: you know, usually it's returned through that area. So stuff
- 51:47Speaker 1: that you're gonna find is going to be on the
- 51:49Speaker 1: West Coast or East coast or central United States, but
- 51:53Speaker 1: it gets returned and then people can bid and buy
- 51:56Speaker 1: that buy on palettes. So when they buy stuff, they
- 51:59Speaker 1: have no idea what they're getting, but you're gonna get
- 52:02Speaker 1: returns sometimes that are like they're pretty good stuff. And
- 52:06Speaker 1: people have been going to our Bitten store here in
- 52:07Speaker 1: Green Valley finding stuff, and I wanted to show you
- 52:10Speaker 1: what I found. And again I found this in Green
- 52:12Speaker 1: Valley a microphone, and this is a perfect microphone for podcasters.
- 52:20Speaker 1: It is the A eight plus finit finin fifth in
- 52:26Speaker 1: right and it's a little hard to pronounce, but it's
- 52:30Speaker 1: powered by USBC. It lights up, it's got an era
- 52:33Speaker 1: RGB look to it, and the quality sounds just as good.
- 52:37Speaker 1: I gotta say it just as good as the Logitech
- 52:39Speaker 1: ORB that I have. This cost me fifteen bucks. That's it, really, Yeah,
- 52:45Speaker 1: for fifteen dollars. So if you go there on Fridays,
- 52:50Speaker 1: to fine is what it's called. But if you go
- 52:51Speaker 1: there on Fridays, whether it be if you have one
- 52:53Speaker 1: in your area. I know. I was doing a search
- 52:56Speaker 1: for somebody else that was in California and I found
- 53:00Speaker 1: the same type of store that sells pallettes that came in.
- 53:04Speaker 1: If you go in there on the day that they
- 53:06Speaker 1: have the first price put out, and this one was fifteen,
- 53:10Speaker 1: it drops every day until one day they do the restocking.
- 53:14Speaker 1: But this is a really good microphone. Again, picked it
- 53:16Speaker 1: up for fifteen bucks, So you never know what you're
- 53:18Speaker 1: gonna find there. I've already bought a tablet I've bought.
- 53:22Speaker 1: I bought three D glasses, not the Mata, but they're
- 53:25Speaker 1: the kind you pop your your smartphone in and you
- 53:29Speaker 1: watch it that way. And again I found those here
- 53:30Speaker 1: in Green Valley, so I wanted to share that with you.
- 53:34Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 53:35Speaker 1: Yeah, good stuff. I don't think we have one of
- 53:37Speaker 1: those in Denver. I bet, I bet if you look
- 53:39Speaker 1: and you look for Amazon Surplus or Amazon Bin returns
- 53:44Speaker 1: or even Walmart Target, some of those also do the
- 53:47Speaker 1: same thing. They sell some of their stuff on pallets,
- 53:50Speaker 1: you know. And it used to be for a while
- 53:51Speaker 1: when you had an Amazon product. If it didn't, if
- 53:54Speaker 1: it wasn't going to be something they could resell, they
- 53:57Speaker 1: would just tell you, okay, we'll we'll send you your refund.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Keep it my cardio systems card that I have to
- 54:05Speaker 1: you know, you press your two fingers on it, it gives
- 54:06Speaker 1: you a heart beat. If I decided I didn't really
- 54:09Speaker 1: want it, I wanted to send it back and they said, no,
- 54:12Speaker 1: keep it, and they gave me a full refund, and
- 54:14Speaker 1: you know, then I started having heart is shoes. So
- 54:16Speaker 1: you served me right. So I kept it and they
- 54:18Speaker 1: used it. There you go anyway, all right, great, So
- 54:22Speaker 1: it's great to see you guys again. We got so
- 54:25Speaker 1: much more to talk about. But we'll pick some of
- 54:27Speaker 1: that stuff up next week. Actually, you're gonna be out
- 54:29Speaker 1: again justin right next week, Yes, next week. I'm on vacation,
- 54:33Speaker 1: all right, hopefully Slick, you'll be with us.
- 54:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I've got. I'm I'm probably gonna go off about
- 54:38Speaker 2: this downy junior thing.
- 54:40Speaker 1: As do Wait, you don't like that? Huh you don't
- 54:44Speaker 1: like that?
- 54:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I got. I'm bothered by that. So I have
- 54:47Speaker 2: a hole, you know.
- 54:48Speaker 1: Oh wow? And I love that. We got through the
- 54:51Speaker 1: whole show. And I know Justin has seen uh, you know,
- 54:54Speaker 1: Wolverine and Deadpool. I haven't seen it yet, and he
- 54:57Speaker 1: didn't give away one bad thing. Is the movie good?
- 55:02Speaker 1: It's great? Yeah, it's great.
- 55:04Speaker 2: Yeah, Like everything around this movie is great.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it's made a lot of money.
- 55:08Speaker 2: Anything and everything related to it seems to be great.
- 55:11Speaker 1: All right. Well again, that wraps up this week. I'm
- 55:13Speaker 1: Andy Taylor, dian Die am Slick and I'm Justin let me.
- 55:16Speaker 3: Thanks for joining us, have yourselves a great week. We'll
- 55:19Speaker 3: see you next time.
