- 0:05Speaker 2: Okay, here we go where the.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Plays get broken down and science gets denied to.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Come off the bench.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hour two of Off the Bench Live from downtown Baton
- 0:14Speaker 1: Rouge starts.
- 0:15Speaker 2: An Now, all right, welcome back you.
- 0:53Speaker 3: In hour number two ot B Wednesday morning, Jake flann
- 0:58Speaker 3: elandre tte here with you.
- 1:01Speaker 2: We're talking a.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Little LSU run game during the break. There obviously something
- 1:05Speaker 3: a lot of people want to talk about. You know,
- 1:07Speaker 3: have a lot of conversations about the offensive line and
- 1:10Speaker 3: when you look at the analytics of the offensive line,
- 1:14Speaker 3: one of the highest graded pass protection units not only
- 1:18Speaker 3: in the SEC, but in the entire country. Now, a
- 1:23Speaker 3: year ago kind of the same story, right, you had
- 1:26Speaker 3: really good pass protection and run blocking was something we
- 1:29Speaker 3: talked a lot about, like for this offensive line, you know,
- 1:34Speaker 3: and you're getting the body hands pretty quick, they're forgetting
- 1:37Speaker 3: and smart. We talked about that. You know, whatever's going
- 1:39Speaker 3: on with this Torso injury right now, you're not you know,
- 1:42Speaker 3: pushing the ball down the field.
- 1:44Speaker 2: We use the stat. We looked up the stat.
- 1:46Speaker 3: We charged at the stat thirty four yards through the air, yesterday,
- 1:51Speaker 3: so you know that helps you. But still this this
- 1:53Speaker 3: unit's been really good. I don't see it as a
- 1:57Speaker 3: talent issue. Like it's not an issue where guys are
- 2:01Speaker 3: losing their individual matchups in the run game. It's not like,
- 2:05Speaker 3: oh this guy, look, the defensive lineman just walking him back.
- 2:08Speaker 3: He's basically on heay skates right now instead of cleats
- 2:13Speaker 3: and pushing back into the running back. I think it's
- 2:16Speaker 3: some of the schematics of the offense because some of
- 2:19Speaker 3: these runs, and Matt, you were talking about like, it's
- 2:22Speaker 3: like you got an RPO situation, so do you want
- 2:25Speaker 3: to show them, Yeah, we can, that's fine. Some of
- 2:29Speaker 3: it is trying to be perfect in the run game
- 2:31Speaker 3: and what I mean by that, And Matt showed me
- 2:34Speaker 3: this over the weekend, and he's exactly right, Like and
- 2:37Speaker 3: when I say robotic, it's like, okay, well, we've got
- 2:40Speaker 3: this defensive lineman and we're comboing up to the linebacker
- 2:44Speaker 3: and the tackles trying to basically block the defensive lineman
- 2:51Speaker 3: for the guard and then try to at the last
- 2:55Speaker 3: minute get up to his linebacker and by then it's
- 2:57Speaker 3: too late. Like if you have a combo block it's
- 3:00Speaker 3: like the guard tackle, got a boom, got it all right, cool,
- 3:03Speaker 3: second level and just not getting to that second level
- 3:06Speaker 3: fast enough right now. And so what you have is
- 3:09Speaker 3: you have a linebacker that is right there, he's in
- 3:12Speaker 3: the gap, he's coming downhill. The running back sees that,
- 3:14Speaker 3: he sees color flash and so he's either bouncing it
- 3:17Speaker 3: or he's just saying, well, they gotta put my head
- 3:19Speaker 3: down and try to get two yards. So those things
- 3:23Speaker 3: I do think are fixable, and you got to get
- 3:25Speaker 3: him fixed, and you got to get him fixed here
- 3:27Speaker 3: pretty quick.
- 3:28Speaker 2: But one of the.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Plays, I'm sitting here and I'm just watching the end
- 3:31Speaker 3: zone copy, watching the end zone copy, and I'm like, well,
- 3:33Speaker 3: you know, look, look, look, look, look, but if you
- 3:37Speaker 3: zoom out and.
- 3:38Speaker 2: You get yeah, Taylor, go ahead and pull us up.
- 3:40Speaker 2: We got a clip. This is from early in the
- 3:42Speaker 2: first quarter too, So we are running right here. They're
- 3:48Speaker 2: in a three down look right now. So they gotta
- 3:52Speaker 2: when the defensive tackles over the center like this, it's
- 3:54Speaker 2: called a zero, So he's zero shade, zero knows whatever.
- 3:58Speaker 2: He's head up on the on the defensive tackle. So
- 4:00Speaker 2: we're running a zone into tight endside and you watched
- 4:05Speaker 2: this play out nowhere for the running back to go.
- 4:09Speaker 2: This is one of those plays. I was like, man,
- 4:10Speaker 2: I was watching the tight copy this week and I
- 4:12Speaker 2: sent it to Jake. I was like, man, this right tackle.
- 4:14Speaker 2: He's so worried about giving presents to the guard in
- 4:17Speaker 2: ninety four. He's not getting up to his assignment. He's
- 4:20Speaker 2: not getting up to zero. Yeah, he just he needs
- 4:22Speaker 2: to give them a little presence and then get up
- 4:24Speaker 2: to zero because that's his guy. And who makes the block,
- 4:26Speaker 2: who makes the tackle?
- 4:27Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 4:27Speaker 2: Zero zero. And I'm sitting there watching two, I'm like,
- 4:29Speaker 2: what got him go? And that's the easy thing to
- 4:32Speaker 2: look at when you're watching these tight copy's, like, man,
- 4:34Speaker 2: right tackles messed up. He did it, he did it.
- 4:36Speaker 2: He's got to get it. He's I think he still
- 4:38Speaker 2: has to get on him, like zero is his guy.
- 4:40Speaker 2: But this tight copy didn't tell the whole picture, the
- 4:44Speaker 2: whole story of the play. So we're gonna go to
- 4:46Speaker 2: the wide copy and I we're just gonna we're gonna
- 4:49Speaker 2: play it once, just play it through, then ell we
- 4:50Speaker 2: one and see what anybody notices.
- 4:53Speaker 3: All right about this laundre tate. Y'all watching listen to
- 4:59Speaker 3: us on radio. Oh, it's the same play, it's just
- 5:01Speaker 3: zoomed out.
- 5:01Speaker 2: It's just a zoomed out vertist. So it's the wide
- 5:04Speaker 2: copy of the version. So what we what do we
- 5:06Speaker 2: have here? What kind of concept? We have an RPO,
- 5:09Speaker 2: a two wide receiver RPO system. So what can the
- 5:13Speaker 2: offensive lineman not do here?
- 5:15Speaker 3: They, Matthew, cannot go downfield, can't go because there is
- 5:19Speaker 3: a possibility that behind them, which they don't have eyes
- 5:23Speaker 3: in the back of their head. Garrett Nosmeyer could throw
- 5:25Speaker 3: either the five yard hitch or the flat route to
- 5:28Speaker 3: the left side.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Yep, they have the and this is a three step
- 5:31Speaker 2: route concept. Like a lot of times RPOs are basically
- 5:35Speaker 2: one step like now timing, So it doesn't matter if
- 5:38Speaker 2: the linemen are getting down the field. So the right
- 5:41Speaker 2: tackle cannot do the job that he is supposed to
- 5:43Speaker 2: do or needs to do on his zone play, which
- 5:46Speaker 2: is basically just give a left hand to help his
- 5:49Speaker 2: left guard, give a left hand to that defensive tackle
- 5:51Speaker 2: and go to the linebacker immediately. So when we see
- 5:55Speaker 2: a lot of this stuff happening now, RPO is a weapon.
- 5:57Speaker 2: An RPO is a weapon that you can use. It's
- 6:00Speaker 2: a tool that offenses can use and do use all
- 6:02Speaker 2: over the country very successfully, and it keeps the defense
- 6:05Speaker 2: on his toes. It always gives you an answer. But
- 6:08Speaker 2: this right here shows you a glaring weakness is to
- 6:11Speaker 2: RPO systems, not just for Lsue, for everybody that runs it.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Offensive linemen cannot get down the field. I think early
- 6:18Speaker 2: on in the RPO days, that call wasn't made a lot. No,
- 6:22Speaker 2: it wasn't, but coach Saman talked about that a lot.
- 6:25Speaker 2: There's an emphasis there has been more and more of
- 6:27Speaker 2: an emphasis to the referees to call the illegal lineman downfield.
- 6:32Speaker 2: So when we watch clips and you're like, man, that
- 6:34Speaker 2: right tackle or that left guard or whoever, they're not
- 6:37Speaker 2: doing their job. They got to get up. You have
- 6:39Speaker 2: to look at the totality of the play and we
- 6:41Speaker 2: don't know what they're being coached, but we can assume
- 6:44Speaker 2: what they're being coached is you can't get down field
- 6:46Speaker 2: because there's a three step route combination behind it. And
- 6:50Speaker 2: what does it do? It MUCKs up everything for when
- 6:53Speaker 2: things like this happen. When you have a good defensive
- 6:56Speaker 2: line like Florida does, and they can stonewall and they
- 6:59Speaker 2: can position like they're these guys are disciplined rushers, they're
- 7:04Speaker 2: disciplined defensive lineman. So they're if they think it's going
- 7:07Speaker 2: to be a run play, they think that offensive lineman
- 7:10Speaker 2: has a run block, they're gonna sit there, they're gonna
- 7:13Speaker 2: straight arm him, and they're gonna look to like throw
- 7:15Speaker 2: the the lineman left right depending like to play the run,
- 7:19Speaker 2: and that's what they do. So there's I mean, if
- 7:20Speaker 2: you're running back there, I mean, where are you running?
- 7:23Speaker 2: So you can't just look at that. So if you
- 7:25Speaker 2: look at this tight copy, you're gonna be like, right tackle,
- 7:28Speaker 2: You're wrong, Yeah, you're wrong. And I think he still
- 7:30Speaker 2: should have got to zero. I think he's looking to
- 7:32Speaker 2: the left. He didn't really see because they're motioning Bauer
- 7:35Speaker 2: in from the outside back into the box, so he's
- 7:37Speaker 2: not I think his eyes are a little bit wrong.
- 7:39Speaker 2: But still, if this was just a normal if you
- 7:43Speaker 2: take the RPO off this seventy five zero, yeah, seventy five,
- 7:47Speaker 2: your left hand is on ninety four as you're hauling
- 7:50Speaker 2: ass to block zero.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Yeah, go back to the wide shot. And that's a difference.
- 7:59Speaker 3: That's what it doesn't matter. But like also, like these
- 8:02Speaker 3: the linebacker on the backside of the play is adding
- 8:06Speaker 3: right now and he's not even thinking about the r
- 8:10Speaker 3: PO to his side, and you you run a slant
- 8:14Speaker 3: like right behind that if you're going to run the
- 8:16Speaker 3: RPO stuff, I mean, either one of these receivers at
- 8:19Speaker 3: the bottom of your screen. Right, that's an easy completion
- 8:23Speaker 3: for a first down there.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it is, but he's probably taught and too high.
- 8:26Speaker 2: You're not throwing and it is too even though there
- 8:28Speaker 2: are guys technically open whatever. But yeah, just tough. Like
- 8:33Speaker 2: so when you're looking and you're you're grading people, you're
- 8:37Speaker 2: grading tackle. So right tackle in a PFF grading system
- 8:41Speaker 2: might have gotten a deduction there, yeah, yeah, and he
- 8:44Speaker 2: probably shouldn't have. Yeah, right, So you just have to if, like,
- 8:48Speaker 2: like we said, if you're going to call something out
- 8:51Speaker 2: on the team, especially team that we all care about,
- 8:53Speaker 2: we need to be able to like kind of show
- 8:54Speaker 2: why and kind of talk through it. Uh.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Some of the questions are they supposed to hold the
- 9:00Speaker 3: spot I mean right there? Because you can't be downfield
- 9:04Speaker 3: and you don't have fast flow from the defensive lineman,
- 9:07Speaker 3: it's hard to tell the right tackle to to really
- 9:12Speaker 3: get to engage with the defensive lineman, because then if
- 9:15Speaker 3: it does turn into a run, what's gonna happen What happened?
- 9:18Speaker 3: Zero is gonna add himself, He's gonna basically be unblocked away.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Actually, So I was never a part of an offense
- 9:25Speaker 2: like in depth, that had this type of RPO system
- 9:29Speaker 2: attached to it. Mine was always kind of like the
- 9:32Speaker 2: more now throws, Like, if I know I'm throwing to it,
- 9:34Speaker 2: it's a one step behind the line of scrimmage. It's
- 9:36Speaker 2: a bubble route, it's a one step slant, it's something
- 9:39Speaker 2: right over the middle. It wasn't never like there's a
- 9:42Speaker 2: literal route concept behind a behind a run play. Yeah.
- 9:46Speaker 2: So I don't know the exact coaching, but I can
- 9:48Speaker 2: imagine that the coaching for the offensive lineman is like
- 9:52Speaker 2: a two count kind of like a screen like in screens.
- 9:55Speaker 2: It's like it's a two count screen, three count screen,
- 9:57Speaker 2: three and a half like four count screen, like I
- 9:59Speaker 2: would imagine RP like your two counts and then up
- 10:02Speaker 2: to the second level if you can get there like
- 10:04Speaker 2: That's how I would imagine it. So maybe that right
- 10:06Speaker 2: tackle is a little bit slow still, and I think
- 10:08Speaker 2: his eyes were still wrong. Yeah, I don't even think
- 10:10Speaker 2: he was thinking about zero. But it just kind of
- 10:15Speaker 2: goes to show you, like the RPO blocking is different. Man,
- 10:17Speaker 2: Like if you're if you're coming in, you're and you're
- 10:18Speaker 2: frustrated watching the running game, and you're like, man, they
- 10:22Speaker 2: got to get their asses off the ball. They got
- 10:24Speaker 2: to get to the Lineberdyes, they got to get to the
- 10:25Speaker 2: second level. You have to look at the whole play
- 10:26Speaker 2: in the totality, and you can't just poo poo on
- 10:29Speaker 2: on RPOs because they are a tool and they are
- 10:31Speaker 2: a weapon, but they're not an offensive philosophy. They are
- 10:34Speaker 2: a tool to be used within the game, not every time,
- 10:39Speaker 2: but I'm saying what we do, we don't do it
- 10:41Speaker 2: every time. But like when you see that, you're like, many,
- 10:43Speaker 2: why can't we get any movement? That's a penalty.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Yeah, it might be a situation where you just you
- 10:50Speaker 3: take the r p O off of it and early
- 10:53Speaker 3: in the game you're trying to establish.
- 10:55Speaker 2: It because that's that displays eleven over eleven minutes left
- 10:59Speaker 2: in the first quarter, just super early on absolutely.
- 11:02Speaker 3: So, uh, just a couple of things, a couple of
- 11:04Speaker 3: things to look for and the LSU ring actually I
- 11:06Speaker 3: mean pull up the I think it's.
- 11:08Speaker 2: The first run.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Pull up the first run that LSU had where they
- 11:11Speaker 3: had it was like a four yard run, five yard
- 11:13Speaker 3: run you got. You know, you're ahead of schedule there,
- 11:17Speaker 3: and it's you know, it's one little step here, one
- 11:20Speaker 3: false step here, and like those are the things that
- 11:24Speaker 3: we're talking about. And so again, it's not like you're
- 11:27Speaker 3: just getting blown off the ball. It's not that you
- 11:30Speaker 3: can't block your guy. It's even when you're blocking your guys,
- 11:34Speaker 3: like it's just one step and you can pull up
- 11:37Speaker 3: Matt's screen again, you can go to the end zone.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Yeah, but you've watched the wide cop it's an RB again,
- 11:41Speaker 2: I know. So if you see the offensive line, they're
- 11:44Speaker 2: all blocking at the last scrimmage and then.
- 11:47Speaker 3: They see lateral movement in the north south movement.
- 11:50Speaker 2: But still they are getting they are getting movement though
- 11:52Speaker 2: on this one, like I would left guard does a
- 11:56Speaker 2: great job.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Yeah, and if so for everyone listening on radio. The
- 12:02Speaker 3: center has a zero nose right in front of him
- 12:06Speaker 3: for us, and he was a little bit nervous to
- 12:09Speaker 3: take a real open lead step because I guess he
- 12:12Speaker 3: didn't want to get beat back door. But he has
- 12:14Speaker 3: to know that he's got left guard help. He can
- 12:17Speaker 3: be aggressive with his right leg. He can open up
- 12:21Speaker 3: because you're blocking to a spot. He should have ninety
- 12:25Speaker 3: five hooked right now. But you can tell he's worried
- 12:28Speaker 3: about maybe a back door a gap, but he has
- 12:30Speaker 3: to trust his left guard that he's going to be there.
- 12:33Speaker 3: And if the guy tries to back door this run play,
- 12:36Speaker 3: he now gets taken by sixty five all mobing at
- 12:39Speaker 3: the left guard and he's gonna get then, and then
- 12:42Speaker 3: he doesn't worry about it anymore. Then he's going straight
- 12:45Speaker 3: to twenty nine Here at the linebacker position, that's where
- 12:49Speaker 3: the trust has to come in, right, You're trusting your
- 12:51Speaker 3: guard is going to take over any back door a
- 12:54Speaker 3: gap type cut situation, and you're moving forward and.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Watch these guys make it calls to watch the offensive
- 12:59Speaker 2: lineman to this. How much communication goes on because it's
- 13:02Speaker 2: a shade nose. They're all talking to each other. They're saying,
- 13:04Speaker 2: I got the shade nose. You got to work up
- 13:06Speaker 2: and like they're they're making calls. So if this defensive
- 13:09Speaker 2: lineman would have been lined up here, that's the difference
- 13:14Speaker 2: between interest. If he would have been lined up here,
- 13:15Speaker 2: which would have been like a shade of one technique.
- 13:19Speaker 2: The center would have made a different call, and the
- 13:21Speaker 2: center would have worked up to twenty nine and the
- 13:23Speaker 2: left guard would have tried to hook. Yeah, and you're saying, okay,
- 13:25Speaker 2: this is a good first play though. The left guard
- 13:27Speaker 2: does a great job of giving presents and getting up
- 13:29Speaker 2: to twenty nine does a really good job. It kind
- 13:31Speaker 2: of works that like two count, I was just talking
- 13:33Speaker 2: about a little bit better to count then work up
- 13:35Speaker 2: left guard. People are gonna watch this be like, come on,
- 13:37Speaker 2: left tackle, get the block because it's his guy in
- 13:40Speaker 2: ninety four then isn't making tackle? Left tackle does a
- 13:42Speaker 2: really good job here. Yeah, Like that's this is a
- 13:44Speaker 2: tough leverage. You see that's a four, so that's very
- 13:47Speaker 2: tough of it. So he's got to try to beat him.
- 13:50Speaker 2: He gets enough stink on him that we get three
- 13:53Speaker 2: four yards. He actually did a good job and a
- 13:55Speaker 2: really tough look right there for that left tackle. Yep,
- 14:00Speaker 2: I would agree. There's actually a nice cut by Cayden
- 14:02Speaker 2: to seeing the You can just see the difference of
- 14:05Speaker 2: run blocking in an RPO system, an RPO game, Like
- 14:08Speaker 2: these guys there, they are not going down the field
- 14:12Speaker 2: and that left guard does a good job. They're really
- 14:14Speaker 2: good play all right.
- 14:15Speaker 3: So the whole reason to bring it up, if you're
- 14:17Speaker 3: going to say, okay, the run game, the run game,
- 14:18Speaker 3: the run game, well, here's some of the reasons I
- 14:21Speaker 3: think in the run game, and it's an offensive line
- 14:25Speaker 3: that I actually do think has the ability to not
- 14:29Speaker 3: only improve but be much better in the run game.
- 14:32Speaker 3: And I think some of those situations, some of the
- 14:35Speaker 3: different play designs that you're run in. They're running way
- 14:37Speaker 3: more outside zone this year than they ever have before.
- 14:40Speaker 3: It's not that far away, but it certainly needs to
- 14:44Speaker 3: continue to be worked only.
- 14:45Speaker 2: I think there's still a lot of positive takeaways from it.
- 14:47Speaker 2: And again this isn't like saying we should or shouldn't
- 14:51Speaker 2: do something as far as like schematically, because the r
- 14:56Speaker 2: PO is a is proven to be weapon and a
- 15:01Speaker 2: very big benefit. They bring the right coverage, you can
- 15:03Speaker 2: cash a team. Yeah, but there's some give and take
- 15:05Speaker 2: that you have to do because of how it's being
- 15:07Speaker 2: reffed now compared to how it's being refed a couple
- 15:10Speaker 2: of years ago.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Uh Matt Matt c says, I feel like Cayden could
- 15:14Speaker 3: have bounced that outside and tried to make the linebacker
- 15:16Speaker 3: man a psych in hindsight, maybe first play the game.
- 15:19Speaker 3: First the game though, and you got six yards. Now
- 15:21Speaker 3: you're second and four. You love it, So that's a
- 15:23Speaker 3: great nay I run and that's what you're going to do.
- 15:28Speaker 2: So but yeah, there's always like there's always something in
- 15:30Speaker 2: every single because it's eleven, it's eleven players versus eleven.
- 15:32Speaker 2: There's always something like you can nitpick every single play.
- 15:35Speaker 2: You should have done this, could have done that, and yeah,
- 15:37Speaker 2: but like first play, you gotta like emotions are super high.
- 15:40Speaker 2: You know, a play is supposed to do something. They're
- 15:42Speaker 2: not a lot of crazy ad living. It's happened, happening
- 15:45Speaker 2: on first plays of the game.
- 15:46Speaker 3: No, and you get six yards on the first play
- 15:49Speaker 3: of the game. Yeah, we'll take second and four and
- 15:51Speaker 3: that's a that's a good run by Cayden there. So, uh,
- 15:54Speaker 3: just a little breakdown of you know some things in
- 15:57Speaker 3: the run game right now and again.
- 15:59Speaker 2: I do the there's place to be made.
- 16:01Speaker 3: We'll see if LSU continues to develop that because more consistent,
- 16:05Speaker 3: not saying you hadn't had big plays, but you got
- 16:06Speaker 3: to be more consistent. And certainly there's a point of emphasis.
- 16:10Speaker 3: You can tell to have it on the place sheet.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I think there's a lot of there's a lot
- 16:13Speaker 2: of juice you have to be squeezed in this on
- 16:15Speaker 2: this run game, for sure.

- 18:24Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I'm missing it here.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Great. They call those those discos with the headsets.
- 18:35Speaker 4: I've never been to one, but my grandparents bar did
- 18:37Speaker 4: one like during COVID or whatever.
- 18:40Speaker 8: They had everybody with the headphones and.
- 18:42Speaker 2: We did one one time and it was hilarious. Like
- 18:45Speaker 2: you're doing and you're feeling the music is good, headset
- 18:47Speaker 2: and you take them off and everybody's just looking like idiots.
- 18:51Speaker 2: That's great, that's so good. Look, we look like idiots
- 18:53Speaker 2: all the time, so it's fine. Uh dtr athwurs. What's
- 18:56Speaker 2: going on? How we doing?
- 18:57Speaker 7: I'm doing well? How about y'all?
- 18:58Speaker 2: Uh doing? Okay?
- 19:01Speaker 3: We talked about turf toe last or two weeks ago,
- 19:04Speaker 3: and unfortunately I think we we might have jinked our.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Guy Joey b Gosh.
- 19:10Speaker 7: Yeah, that's right.
- 19:11Speaker 3: We talked about like turftw like what is turf toe?
- 19:13Speaker 3: And we talked about it and you're like, well, there's
- 19:15Speaker 3: this one case where you've got the surgery and you
- 19:17Speaker 3: can miss like three months and that's like the worst case,
- 19:19Speaker 3: and that's what Joey, Yeah, he has.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Hey, can you give us like a just like a
- 19:23Speaker 2: brief Oh, I know, we talked about it in depth.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Couple ways on like kind of brief overview of what
- 19:28Speaker 2: kind of happens to the foot when it gets to
- 19:30Speaker 2: the stage of having to have surgery. Yeah, if you.
- 19:33Speaker 6: Look at at the play that had happened, I mean,
- 19:35Speaker 6: if you watch that play, it didn't look that bad.
- 19:37Speaker 6: I went back and looked at it, and you know,
- 19:39Speaker 6: if anything, I'd have been worried about his right foot.
- 19:41Speaker 6: He had the defender on the back kind of fell
- 19:42Speaker 6: on the right foot if he saw it. But his
- 19:44Speaker 6: left foot is the one that was injured. And if
- 19:45Speaker 6: you go back and watch, you can kind of see
- 19:47Speaker 6: where his foot get kind of flexed over the front
- 19:49Speaker 6: of it. That big toe is down and the whole
- 19:51Speaker 6: foot kind of comes over the top and just probably
- 19:53Speaker 6: just kind of caught in the turf just right. And
- 19:55Speaker 6: and what happens in his case is he tore you know,
- 19:59Speaker 6: knowing it's a great that can sometimes mean a few
- 20:01Speaker 6: different things, but he tore basically part of that ligament
- 20:04Speaker 6: under the toe, and it's where the foot connects the
- 20:07Speaker 6: big toe. The ligament usually tears off of the toe portion,
- 20:11Speaker 6: so the distal portion rips off and you have to
- 20:12Speaker 6: go back and reattach it.
- 20:14Speaker 7: Sometimes you can have other injuries with that sometimes, like.
- 20:16Speaker 6: You can get a little piece of cartilage that comes off,
- 20:18Speaker 6: or you have these little bones that are called your
- 20:20Speaker 6: sesimoids that can sometimes fracture with it, and that can
- 20:22Speaker 6: complicate it further. You know, I'm not sure as far
- 20:25Speaker 6: as which version of that he had, but we would
- 20:28Speaker 6: assume at the very minimum he had that distal ligament
- 20:31Speaker 6: pull off, because I they're going to go in and
- 20:32Speaker 6: fix it. Yeah, that's kind of kind of what we know,
- 20:35Speaker 6: at least at the very minimum.
- 20:36Speaker 2: What's the rehab like for that.
- 20:39Speaker 6: So so normally, you know, you have the surgery, you
- 20:41Speaker 6: get repaired, You're gonna be in a boot or a
- 20:43Speaker 6: cast or something like that for the first few weeks,
- 20:45Speaker 6: probably have non weight bearing for at least a couple
- 20:46Speaker 6: of weeks on some crutches. After a couple of weeks,
- 20:49Speaker 6: maybe with a really rigid, you know, walking boot, he
- 20:51Speaker 6: can start walking on it. You're looking at a few
- 20:53Speaker 6: weeks to let that ligament really heal in, and then
- 20:56Speaker 6: you got to kind of get the strength back. You
- 20:57Speaker 6: got to be able to push off it, you gotta
- 20:59Speaker 6: be able to plant with it. You know, I'd say
- 21:01Speaker 6: at least two to four weeks non weight bearing, another
- 21:03Speaker 6: two to four weeks after that, where you can start
- 21:05Speaker 6: walking on it and start your light rehab, and then
- 21:07Speaker 6: you just slowly progress from there.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Is the foot in this type of injury something that
- 21:12Speaker 2: the stem cell world would kind of help this type
- 21:16Speaker 2: of injury?
- 21:16Speaker 6: You know, it's a good question in traditional medicine. You know,
- 21:20Speaker 6: that's not something that we would typically do, you know,
- 21:24Speaker 6: ten years ago obviously, so is it something that would
- 21:27Speaker 6: help you know, it depends on your perspective.
- 21:29Speaker 7: I think it would.
- 21:30Speaker 6: It's an area that I have a lot of passion
- 21:32Speaker 6: and we've talked about us in the past weeks. How
- 21:34Speaker 6: much though, I don't know, because you've got to get
- 21:36Speaker 6: that ligament to really heal into the bone. So it's
- 21:38Speaker 6: great to say, hey, it might get there quicker. You know,
- 21:40Speaker 6: you'll hear about people doing hyperbarycks. You hear about people
- 21:43Speaker 6: doing you know, red light bone stimulators, supplementation, stem cells.
- 21:49Speaker 7: I think all these things have a place that we
- 21:51Speaker 7: don't know for sure.
- 21:52Speaker 6: Right You're still figuring out is it going to be
- 21:54Speaker 6: something that gets you better a week earlier, a month earlier,
- 21:56Speaker 6: And that's a lot we still don't know where I
- 21:58Speaker 6: don't think we're gonna move the needle drastically. But you know,
- 22:00Speaker 6: my way of thinking is you watch the way they're recovering,
- 22:03Speaker 6: and then you start looking for where you can optimize.
- 22:06Speaker 6: If there's an area that still just seems to be
- 22:07Speaker 6: lagging behind, maybe that's when I kind of try to
- 22:09Speaker 6: cater the treatment.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Now, if there's anybody out there that's like denying if
- 22:12Speaker 2: themselves work, they're crazy, because like I've felt them firsthand
- 22:15Speaker 2: that they do work. I think it's probably trying to
- 22:17Speaker 2: figure out like the timing of when to do that.
- 22:19Speaker 2: So is it something that is a standard practice for
- 22:23Speaker 2: like a post surgery recovery to go those types of
- 22:27Speaker 2: treatments or is it based like I use it with
- 22:30Speaker 2: something that nothing else was working for a pain spot
- 22:32Speaker 2: and then that that did work now just a recovery
- 22:35Speaker 2: from a surgery. Is that a practice that people.
- 22:38Speaker 6: Are using in some scenarios it is. I wouldn't say
- 22:41Speaker 6: it's standard of care. I would not say that that's
- 22:44Speaker 6: especially not trying to be whatever in certain portions of life.
- 22:48Speaker 6: If if I have an injury like that, do I
- 22:50Speaker 6: need to get better? Does it make a difference if
- 22:51Speaker 6: I get better in six weeks or eight weeks, probably not.
- 22:53Speaker 6: You know, I'm still baby stated to do my job.
- 22:55Speaker 6: Whereas if it's a Joe Burrow, we can get back
- 22:58Speaker 6: in the field two weeks or that might be the
- 22:59Speaker 6: difference in the playoffs and not and what have you.
- 23:02Speaker 7: So so some of we have to consider.
- 23:03Speaker 6: That's why it's not probably become standard care because they
- 23:06Speaker 6: are expensive, and look, for me, it wouldn't really matter.
- 23:11Speaker 7: They have that reputation.
- 23:13Speaker 6: But I think you're right, you know, it's it's something
- 23:15Speaker 6: that we don't know for sure win to app apply it.
- 23:18Speaker 6: I think for me, the best application is the examples
- 23:20Speaker 6: y'all gave where it's this guy has a chronic injury
- 23:22Speaker 6: that's not getting better.
- 23:23Speaker 7: We've tried all the traditional stuff.
- 23:24Speaker 6: That's why I know it's a good option, or at
- 23:27Speaker 6: least feel very confident is a good option. And these
- 23:29Speaker 6: post surgical things, you know, if you think about it,
- 23:31Speaker 6: you have a lot of blood flow in circulation right
- 23:33Speaker 6: after surgery.
- 23:34Speaker 7: At least this is the way I look at it.
- 23:35Speaker 6: So if you think about do you need to do
- 23:37Speaker 6: it right after surgery, maybe not, but maybe that phase
- 23:40Speaker 6: you know a few weeks down the road when things
- 23:41Speaker 6: are slowing down.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Maybe that's the right time.
- 23:43Speaker 6: Certain surgeries, especially like bone fractures, will sometimes you know,
- 23:46Speaker 6: they'll do different procedures at the time of surgery, so
- 23:49Speaker 6: there are there are different avenues for this. We're still
- 23:51Speaker 6: just figuring it out.
- 23:53Speaker 2: All right.
- 23:53Speaker 3: So obviously doctor answers, he can't come here and he
- 23:56Speaker 3: can't talk specific injuries with certain players, But I want
- 23:59Speaker 3: to ask you you you know, being on the broadcast,
- 24:01Speaker 3: we're always like, all right, the player A is in
- 24:03Speaker 3: the tent, player A is out.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Of the tent.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Oh, player as going back in the tent. What is
- 24:08Speaker 3: the process for you? And again like I don't I'm
- 24:10Speaker 3: not asking for any specific player, but when y'all go
- 24:13Speaker 3: inside the tent, right, it's like, you know, you and
- 24:17Speaker 3: other people, trainers and the player obviously right there, Like
- 24:20Speaker 3: what do you need to get done? And what decides
- 24:22Speaker 3: if a player needs to go into the tent or not?
- 24:25Speaker 3: Because I've seen y'all have an injury and not go
- 24:27Speaker 3: into the tent.
- 24:28Speaker 6: Yeah, a lot of times, you know, it starts a
- 24:29Speaker 6: little bit you on the field assessment. And we've been
- 24:32Speaker 6: very fortunate my whole time here. We've always had a
- 24:34Speaker 6: great medical staff, great athletic trainers. They're kind of the
- 24:37Speaker 6: first ones out there when y'all se those people who
- 24:39Speaker 6: a rushing out, that's gonna be our trainers. They're gonna
- 24:41Speaker 6: do a quick assessment on the field and see what
- 24:43Speaker 6: they think. Usually we're going to kind of follow up
- 24:45Speaker 6: and if it's something on the field that we need
- 24:47Speaker 6: need to assess there, is it okay to move the athlete?
- 24:49Speaker 6: Do we need to get them in the tent? Those
- 24:50Speaker 6: types of questions we start asking. You know, we've gotten
- 24:53Speaker 6: a little more advanced the past few years. We wear
- 24:55Speaker 6: these these fun little head pieces and all that, and
- 24:57Speaker 6: so we'll kind of let the sideline know like, yeah,
- 24:58Speaker 6: we're going in the tent. And really I think it
- 25:01Speaker 6: borders down to do we need to do a further
- 25:03Speaker 6: assessment if we know the answer on the field, and
- 25:06Speaker 6: let's just say you kind of got the wind knocked
- 25:07Speaker 6: out of you, maybe you stepped a little funny in
- 25:10Speaker 6: your ankle, kind of you felt something, but now it's fine,
- 25:12Speaker 6: We're probably not going to bring you in the tent.
- 25:14Speaker 6: But if it's something that's going to require really a
- 25:15Speaker 6: further assessment, we're probably gonna bring you in the tent.
- 25:18Speaker 6: You know, and even things, you know, in past years,
- 25:21Speaker 6: we've kind of learned that we have a lot of
- 25:23Speaker 6: eyes on us and and sometimes something that probably doesn't
- 25:26Speaker 6: need to go in the tent, we're going to take
- 25:28Speaker 6: in the tent more so just being blunt like a
- 25:30Speaker 6: CYA type thing. You know, we've learned that that, you know,
- 25:32Speaker 6: I feel very confident in our medical crew.
- 25:34Speaker 2: They do a great job.
- 25:35Speaker 6: But but you know, you don't want to bring you know, undo,
- 25:39Speaker 6: I guess criticism.
- 25:40Speaker 7: You don't want to do that.
- 25:41Speaker 6: So sometimes it's more of a said, yeah, sometimes it's that,
- 25:43Speaker 6: but you also want to be able to get assessment
- 25:45Speaker 6: without having to worry about, you know, having all the
- 25:47Speaker 6: stylent reporters and everybody that's there and cameras.
- 25:49Speaker 7: Are on you, right, I know that guy forty Rushes
- 25:52Speaker 7: of the world.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Is there anything done more than just assessment in the tent?
- 25:58Speaker 2: So like when we were in the Ark, I saw
- 26:00Speaker 2: a game in two thousand and seven, I had to
- 26:01Speaker 2: go to the locker room twice during that game to
- 26:04Speaker 2: get just a little tune up of Lyda Kane and
- 26:06Speaker 2: the old shoulder. Is there anything like, like, is there
- 26:08Speaker 2: actual stuff being physically done outside of an assessment.
- 26:12Speaker 7: It's mostly assessment.
- 26:14Speaker 6: If there is some type of a treatment that we
- 26:16Speaker 6: can do on the sideline, we might consider doing that.
- 26:18Speaker 7: You know, we're pretty limited with what we can do there.
- 26:21Speaker 6: You know, if it's something where we're really worried, we
- 26:23Speaker 6: probably bring it into the locker room too, or if
- 26:25Speaker 6: we need to get X rays for example, or if
- 26:27Speaker 6: it's something like that. That's a lot of times while
- 26:28Speaker 6: you see us taking them in the locker room. There
- 26:31Speaker 6: are things you can do in a tent, but but
- 26:33Speaker 6: obviously you're even with the protection of that, you are
- 26:35Speaker 6: a little bit limited. Even something as simple as an IV.
- 26:37Speaker 6: We have to ask ourselves. You know, I've done a
- 26:39Speaker 6: couple of v's and guy's cramping in the tent, so
- 26:41Speaker 6: we might do that. But on the other hand, you
- 26:42Speaker 6: have a more controlled environment in the locker room. Do
- 26:44Speaker 6: we have the time to go in there that that's
- 26:46Speaker 6: that's usually the big question.
- 26:49Speaker 3: And no, no cramps fail issue though, beause they're hydrated.
- 26:54Speaker 3: So disclaimer, doctor, we're talking about in past year, it's
- 27:01Speaker 3: been a while.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Talking about a decade ago.
- 27:07Speaker 3: Again, not talking anything specific here, but how many TORSO
- 27:11Speaker 3: questions have you answered over the last twenty four hours.
- 27:13Speaker 7: You know, It's it's funny. I got I got a text,
- 27:15Speaker 7: and you're going over the entire chart.
- 27:18Speaker 6: So I get a text from a friend of mine
- 27:20Speaker 6: and he said, so, what's the torso urgent or something
- 27:22Speaker 6: about torcho injury.
- 27:22Speaker 7: I'm like, why is he asking me this? Because I
- 27:24Speaker 7: hadn't I hadn't heard any of the press conference like that.
- 27:26Speaker 6: And it literally was like I'm like and I even respond,
- 27:27Speaker 6: I'm like, I don't know what you're talking about. And
- 27:29Speaker 6: then of course I heard later on that afternoon and
- 27:32Speaker 6: there had been some mention of torso injuries around campus. Uh,
- 27:35Speaker 6: you know the torso injuries are it's such a big area.
- 27:38Speaker 6: You know, you're really basically talking about anything lower than
- 27:40Speaker 6: the neck, basically down through the pelvis. That's a lot
- 27:42Speaker 6: of volume, a lot of area that we can talk about. So,
- 27:45Speaker 6: I mean, if I guess we want to keep things vague,
- 27:47Speaker 6: it's a good way to do so, you know, because
- 27:49Speaker 6: it can include things like muscle strains, rib injuries, technically
- 27:53Speaker 6: a back injury. I think I heard you on the
- 27:55Speaker 6: radio talking about a sports herney that would technically classify
- 27:58Speaker 6: as a I I was wondering.
- 28:00Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, does that count as a torso
- 28:01Speaker 3: because like you always hear people talk like I never
- 28:04Speaker 3: had one, but I you know, hear people talk about
- 28:05Speaker 3: that all the time.
- 28:06Speaker 6: I think, you know, if you want to be about technical,
- 28:08Speaker 6: really it's anything from like I said, the upper chest
- 28:10Speaker 6: to the pelvis and uh sports herney as a pelvis injury.
- 28:14Speaker 6: So so there's a lot of things that you can
- 28:15Speaker 6: be encompassed in that uh and and and again that
- 28:18Speaker 6: some of them serious, some of them not and and
- 28:20Speaker 6: and some of them are gonna be kind of lingering,
- 28:22Speaker 6: nagging problems. You know, when when you're talking about you know,
- 28:24Speaker 6: obviously we know that we're talking about a position here
- 28:27Speaker 6: with our quarterback, and anything that involves twisting or torn
- 28:29Speaker 6: in the torso if you're if you're at the quarterback,
- 28:32Speaker 6: you gotta throw the ball. That's that's gonna be tough,
- 28:34Speaker 6: you know, and account for that. You can imagine how much.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Any thrower, swinger, kicker, golf like anything that's rotational, anything
- 28:43Speaker 2: that has to do with that torso is going to
- 28:45Speaker 2: be a huge impact.
- 28:46Speaker 7: It's gonna be tough.
- 28:47Speaker 6: And then you even think about the regular day to
- 28:48Speaker 6: day you cough, you sneeze, you take a deep breath,
- 28:50Speaker 6: you have to.
- 28:51Speaker 7: Get out of a recliner when you're watching TV.
- 28:53Speaker 2: When you're it's like.
- 28:57Speaker 6: Living so so so these are things you know, you
- 28:59Speaker 6: do your bes to manage, and depending on the injury,
- 29:01Speaker 6: there's there's things that can be done. You know, we've
- 29:03Speaker 6: talked about different injections to try and help things heal
- 29:05Speaker 6: some of the stem cells and things like that. Sometimes
- 29:07Speaker 6: it's about pain control, you know, little anti inflammatory mentioned.
- 29:10Speaker 6: Sometimes there are times would use light of cane for
- 29:12Speaker 6: certain injuries. We've had guys with rib fractures where we'll
- 29:15Speaker 6: do a little nerve block or things like that to
- 29:17Speaker 6: help with that pain. You know, there's a lot of
- 29:19Speaker 6: things you can do, but they're gonna be nagging injuries.
- 29:20Speaker 6: These are gonna be tough injuries. You know, it's especially
- 29:23Speaker 6: in that type of position.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Yeah, And one of the things like you don't even
- 29:26Speaker 3: think about with like any injury like that. I remember
- 29:29Speaker 3: I had like a lower abnomal like strain one time,
- 29:32Speaker 3: Like I remember what year it was, and I can
- 29:35Speaker 3: just remember like I would be sitting down and I'd
- 29:38Speaker 3: let it, you know, I wouldn't be stretched out. Then
- 29:40Speaker 3: all of sudden I get up out of a chair
- 29:41Speaker 3: and I just like, you know, arch my back a little.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Bit and it would just burn.
- 29:45Speaker 3: Yeah, just because I was sitting and I was kind
- 29:47Speaker 3: of crouched over and then when I got up and
- 29:48Speaker 3: I kind of like fully elongated, and it was It's brutal.
- 29:51Speaker 3: It's that first time you kind of stretch it out,
- 29:53Speaker 3: You're gonna feel it a lot, and it's kind of
- 29:54Speaker 3: you know, that's we always about that with Planner fashion
- 29:56Speaker 3: et us. That first step in the morning is the worst,
- 29:58Speaker 3: you know, and you hear that, that's a tech spoke
- 30:00Speaker 3: question that the first step in the morning they felt
- 30:02Speaker 3: the worst pain. You know almost immediately. That's a Planner
- 30:04Speaker 3: fast question if you're answered.
- 30:05Speaker 2: I mean I basically had Planner fascia. I just for
- 30:07Speaker 2: so long.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Like the tennis ball that I carried with me was
- 30:10Speaker 3: basically my Wilson from Castleway.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I mean it was basically one with me.
- 30:15Speaker 3: It was like I had it in both feet in
- 30:16Speaker 3: the same year twenty eleven and just roll and just
- 30:19Speaker 3: switch to the foot and roll and one popped and
- 30:21Speaker 3: one didn't pop, felt better, pop felt better.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Document. I asked you a question that everybody's dying to know.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Have you You've seen the movie Varsity Blues. Absolutely, what
- 30:32Speaker 2: were they shooting into Lance Harber's knee?
- 30:35Speaker 7: You know, that's a great question. You know, that's a
- 30:37Speaker 7: great question.
- 30:38Speaker 6: I've always I've actually always wondered that one as well,
- 30:40Speaker 6: you know, explode.
- 30:41Speaker 7: I've not been around that one thus far. But it
- 30:43Speaker 7: didn't didn't do good things.
- 30:45Speaker 2: To his knee. Sounds like just some good medication to me. Yeah, anyway,
- 30:50Speaker 2: that's what I wanted to So you don't know, I
- 30:51Speaker 2: don't know doing over than West Canaan. Yeah, I don't know.
- 30:56Speaker 2: They needed you there. Hey Harbor still be playing?
- 30:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I need have gone to floor State or State
- 31:01Speaker 3: let's go where you played football.
- 31:03Speaker 6: That movie actually came out when I was in college,
- 31:05Speaker 6: and I remember going to the theater watching it, and
- 31:07Speaker 6: of course I'm in Tallahassee and say place went nuts
- 31:10Speaker 6: when you Chowarship.
- 31:13Speaker 7: That's one of those memories I have.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Just people people went crazy. Dr Anthwurs. We appreciate your
- 31:17Speaker 2: time as always there my pleasure. All right, before we

- 32:14Speaker 3: had a smile from ear to ear because I was
- 32:16Speaker 3: walking around and somebody stopped me just to raise their
- 32:19Speaker 3: do sequis in the air and point to it and
- 32:21Speaker 3: let me know that they were going for dose.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a good it's a good feeling to be
- 32:26Speaker 2: known as the guys with those that drink doseqis. And
- 32:30Speaker 2: we know we're in South Louisiana. We like to tailgate.
- 32:32Speaker 2: We like to hang out, have a good time, socialize

- 32:48Speaker 2: do skies. Such a.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Locked in on LSU Football twenty four to seven. You're
- 33:19Speaker 1: listening to Off the Bench Day, All.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Right, welcome back to you, OTB.
- 33:26Speaker 3: Alandra definitely definitely got some advice from her father.
- 33:31Speaker 2: On this one. This feels like on your dad's playlist.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, no I know this one. Yeah it's a hit,
- 33:37Speaker 4: but it is a good one. Yeah, and the other
- 33:40Speaker 4: made a Laudra's dad. I got same R and B taste. Yeah,
- 33:42Speaker 4: this feels like he got. He's like, hey, Army Thursday,
- 33:46Speaker 4: make sure you play the hits. He's funny, he like
- 33:50Speaker 4: wants his own segment now. And like my mom was
- 33:53Speaker 4: telling me that he was hanging out in the chat
- 33:55Speaker 4: one day and everywhere, Like I guess it was the
- 33:58Speaker 4: day that I was using.
- 33:59Speaker 8: His playlist to do it.
- 34:00Speaker 4: And people were like making comments.
- 34:06Speaker 8: It's so funny.
- 34:06Speaker 4: My mom said that he was like taking screenshots and
- 34:09Speaker 4: sending it to her.
- 34:09Speaker 8: He's like, I guess I'm famous now. Parents are funny.
- 34:14Speaker 3: Your old man's a Texas fan, though, right UT fan,
- 34:17Speaker 3: I thought, yeah, Texas house, so.
- 34:19Speaker 4: We have fully converted him into an L s U
- 34:21Speaker 4: fan ever since I started going to L s U.
- 34:25Speaker 4: He did send me a picture he ordered the two
- 34:29Speaker 4: poncho shirts.
- 34:31Speaker 8: And I was like, make sure you keep your receipt
- 34:33Speaker 8: because if we win that Natty.
- 34:36Speaker 3: Natty back guarantee on the poncho shirts that Flynn and
- 34:39Speaker 3: I were modeling.
- 34:41Speaker 2: No big deal, No big deal.
- 34:42Speaker 3: If l she wins a Natty, you send that receipt
- 34:46Speaker 3: and they'll give you your money back. Yeah, I see
- 34:48Speaker 3: Natty back guarantee shout out.
- 34:51Speaker 8: So he did.
- 34:51Speaker 4: He is fully on the L s U bus and
- 34:53Speaker 4: has been for years now, but he's a.
- 34:56Speaker 8: A U T fan.
- 34:57Speaker 3: I was going to ask how he feels about arch maning,
- 35:00Speaker 3: because like right now in studio, they just showed some
- 35:02Speaker 3: clips from the game against UTAP and.
- 35:05Speaker 8: It doesn't look yeah I know.
- 35:08Speaker 3: And they were talking to Jordan Rodgers and look to
- 35:10Speaker 3: Jordan's credit Jordan was one of the few media members
- 35:13Speaker 3: that came out at the beginning of the seasons like guys,
- 35:17Speaker 3: like we're talking about first team. He was the Sporting
- 35:21Speaker 3: News first team quarterback on the All American team. The
- 35:25Speaker 3: Sporting News is one of the four major All American teams,
- 35:30Speaker 3: and to Jordan's credit, he's like, what are we doing?
- 35:32Speaker 2: What are we doing?
- 35:33Speaker 5: I mean to him king before even being the starter.
- 35:38Speaker 9: Like my point all off season was and I still
- 35:40Speaker 9: think Archer is going to be a good quarterback. But
- 35:43Speaker 9: first off, he was never going to live up to
- 35:44Speaker 9: the expectations people put on him this year, which is
- 35:47Speaker 9: a little unfair to him because he didn't ask for it.
- 35:49Speaker 9: But you're you're gonna make people hate this guy and
- 35:53Speaker 9: root for his downfall because you're hyping him up so
- 35:56Speaker 9: much and he's never even I mean, yeah, he got
- 35:58Speaker 9: two starts last year. Was it's Mississippi State who won
- 36:01Speaker 9: like three games, and then a group of five school
- 36:03Speaker 9: I mean, those those were his two starts a year ago. Sure,
- 36:06Speaker 9: he looked good, but it's a different between having a
- 36:09Speaker 9: spot start against a lower school and being the guy.
- 36:11Speaker 2: And he was never the guy.
- 36:13Speaker 8: Let me see, because we were actually talking about it
- 36:15Speaker 8: the other day. There's like a.
- 36:18Speaker 4: Sorry, I'm seeing the selfie that he sent me with
- 36:20Speaker 4: the poncho shirt on. But if there's two things to
- 36:25Speaker 4: me and my dad talk his ball and probably a
- 36:29Speaker 4: little polarizing, but we talk a lot of like politics
- 36:31Speaker 4: and stuff.
- 36:32Speaker 8: But we were talking.
- 36:32Speaker 4: About the Arch Manning thing, and I think his thing
- 36:35Speaker 4: is it's kind of funny because you know, you see
- 36:37Speaker 4: the yips, yeah, and like pictures. Yeah, I don't ever
- 36:41Speaker 4: think I've.
- 36:42Speaker 3: Seen like the cow block playing second base for the Yankees,
- 36:44Speaker 3: but you couldn't throw it to first base.
- 36:46Speaker 4: I don't think I have seen a quarterback get the yips.
- 36:50Speaker 4: But that's kind of my dad's thought, like that Arch,
- 36:54Speaker 4: you put so much pressure on him, the media did,
- 36:57Speaker 4: and there's so much expects that that's hit. Like, like
- 37:02Speaker 4: I just texted him he's had mental issues. Needs to
- 37:04Speaker 4: go back to last season when he was loose and
- 37:06Speaker 4: not feeling pressure. So I think his opinion is the
- 37:09Speaker 4: same as everybody else is too, where there's so much
- 37:12Speaker 4: external pressure on him that it kind of got in
- 37:14Speaker 4: his head a little bit.
- 37:15Speaker 2: And yeah, show you force the issue and you do
- 37:18Speaker 2: different things. You play outside yourself. Now I get.
- 37:21Speaker 3: I actually think, like I went back and I watched
- 37:24Speaker 3: their game Monday, Sarkisian's putting him in a good spot
- 37:28Speaker 3: to be able to be successful. Like he's actually given
- 37:30Speaker 3: him an outlet on every single play, and right now
- 37:35Speaker 3: Arch is just not even seeing the outlet, like he's
- 37:37Speaker 3: not like he's putting crossers in front of his face
- 37:39Speaker 3: and Arch is throwing them in the ground or throwing
- 37:41Speaker 3: them too wide.
- 37:42Speaker 4: And it's so i'd like to get just like matts
- 37:46Speaker 4: thoughts on this. I've seen a couple of play and
- 37:48Speaker 4: again this is from somebody who's never played football before,
- 37:50Speaker 4: doesn't know anything about mechanics or throws or anything. But
- 37:53Speaker 4: I have seen a couple of clips on like Twitter,
- 37:56Speaker 4: YouTube or whatever where they're saying he's throwing kind of
- 37:58Speaker 4: like side armed and it looks like it's regressing. Yeah,
- 38:02Speaker 4: it looks like for Arch, like it looks like he's
- 38:06Speaker 4: regressing in his mechanics a little bit.
- 38:08Speaker 8: But again I don't know, So I would like to
- 38:10Speaker 8: get like your.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Let me address what you said about the yips. Yeah,
- 38:14Speaker 2: now the yips, like for we all kind of heard
- 38:17Speaker 2: the term like putters get it in golf. Yeah, they
- 38:19Speaker 2: just overthink it. So the yips is overthinking. It's something
- 38:26Speaker 2: that's complicated, like a fine motor skill situation or a
- 38:28Speaker 2: very thoughtful situation. You're overthinking it and you can't get
- 38:32Speaker 2: past this mental hurdle. Yip says, a quarterback is never
- 38:36Speaker 2: really mechanical. Yeah, it's all mental and vision. So like
- 38:40Speaker 2: when you get the yips as a quarterback, when things start,
- 38:42Speaker 2: when things start going bad, like your vision starts to
- 38:45Speaker 2: narrow and you don't go through your progressions. You don't
- 38:49Speaker 2: see the defense as well. And I've been there, Like,
- 38:51Speaker 2: get a practice, I've been there. In a game, like
- 38:53Speaker 2: when things aren't going well, you start pressing a little bit,
- 38:56Speaker 2: you start aiming the ball and you start trying not
- 38:59Speaker 2: to make a mistake. But when you do that, it
- 39:01Speaker 2: narrows the field your vision. And we always talk about
- 39:05Speaker 2: how you start a game with a young quarterback is
- 39:08Speaker 2: you get completions, and every time you get a completion,
- 39:09Speaker 2: that vision widens a little bit. Another one it widens
- 39:12Speaker 2: a little bit more. Then at some point, when a
- 39:14Speaker 2: quarterback gets into the air quote quote unquote, like gets
- 39:17Speaker 2: into a rhythm, you're seeing the entire field like you're
- 39:20Speaker 2: seeing the progressions you're reading the defenses, just like your
- 39:23Speaker 2: coach has told you. But when chaos is happening around
- 39:27Speaker 2: you physically, but also the pressure that's being put on you,
- 39:32Speaker 2: chaos is happening mentally, spiritually, emotionally, everything. I can only
- 39:38Speaker 2: imagine how much he's pressing and how much he cannot
- 39:41Speaker 2: see because that and it's nothing on him. And I
- 39:44Speaker 2: heard you when I walked in back in the room,
- 39:45Speaker 2: like you're talking about how unfair it is the pressure
- 39:48Speaker 2: putting on to him because he's in a no win situation.
- 39:50Speaker 2: It was like, is he overrated? Overrated? Well, technically yeah,
- 39:54Speaker 2: because we raised him.
- 39:55Speaker 9: So hard, right, first team All American before he ever started, man,
- 39:58Speaker 9: like he was never going to live up to the.
- 40:01Speaker 2: X oh boy had him like a mock draft number
- 40:03Speaker 2: one in the draft. Like it is so unfair. Yeah,
- 40:06Speaker 2: I think the kid can be good. I think he
- 40:08Speaker 2: can be really good. They gotta let him play.
- 40:10Speaker 4: Honestly, would we even be saying that he's overrated right now,
- 40:14Speaker 4: given how he's played three games into the season right exactly,
- 40:19Speaker 4: Like we would probably just be like he's an okay quarterback.
- 40:23Speaker 9: He's a first year starter, and it's hard to play
- 40:25Speaker 9: quarterback but look at Week one, like we had talked
- 40:28Speaker 9: about this, right, quarterbacks that went on the road week
- 40:30Speaker 9: one in their first game were awful. Arch was bad,
- 40:33Speaker 9: Ty Simpson was bad. Like they had They don't have
- 40:35Speaker 9: any experience playing quarterbacks hard. You were talking about the yips,
- 40:38Speaker 9: like we keep using that where I can give you
- 40:40Speaker 9: a great example. Remember Sam Darnold in New York. There's
- 40:43Speaker 9: all that pressure on him. The team around him was awful.
- 40:46Speaker 9: He had never been a starter. He got thrown in
- 40:47Speaker 9: there as a rookie. And remember he was really honest
- 40:49Speaker 9: with the media, and everybody craped on him for it
- 40:51Speaker 9: because he was talking about you see a ghost out
- 40:53Speaker 9: there at times, like I was taking sacks when I
- 40:55Speaker 9: shouldn't have. It wasn't seeing anything. He moves on, he
- 40:58Speaker 9: gets a little bit more experienced. Jurnal's a good NFL
- 41:00Speaker 9: quarterback now, ye, I mean he had to go through
- 41:03Speaker 9: you do.
- 41:04Speaker 2: And a lot of times with the quarterbacks too, you
- 41:06Speaker 2: get the you get the yips, especially if you have
- 41:09Speaker 2: another element with your feet and your legs, but you
- 41:12Speaker 2: rely on that a lot. So what happens when that
- 41:15Speaker 2: when you want to rely on your legs because it's
- 41:16Speaker 2: a safe place for a quarterback they can run. You
- 41:19Speaker 2: look at one receiver and then you don't look at
- 41:21Speaker 2: the dbs after that, after your first read, you look
- 41:23Speaker 2: down to see if any colors flashing on the other team.
- 41:27Speaker 2: That's going to give you a lane to run right.
- 41:29Speaker 2: And when they don't do that, then you can't look
- 41:32Speaker 2: You can't look up and look down, then look back
- 41:34Speaker 2: up your toast. You're done. So they try to rely
- 41:37Speaker 2: on I think that's probably what he's getting into is
- 41:39Speaker 2: he wants to be able to go make a play
- 41:41Speaker 2: with his feet, because at that point you're playing backyard ball.
- 41:43Speaker 2: You can just let the talent flow.
- 41:44Speaker 3: All right, we'll step away, close out hour number two
- 41:47Speaker 3: of OTV when we come.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Back off the bench.

- 44:06Speaker 2: see Dabba completely crash out yesterday? Crash It was.
- 44:10Speaker 4: Like another Tyler from Spartanburg situation where he's like, I
- 44:14Speaker 4: win if y'all.
- 44:15Speaker 2: I mean, he's not wrong, he's like.
- 44:17Speaker 5: Those crash out. It's like for for a guy, I'll
- 44:19Speaker 5: go do somewhere else.
- 44:21Speaker 2: You go lucky.
- 44:22Speaker 5: He has an awesome crashout.
- 44:24Speaker 2: Good, tell me you're insecure without saying you're for sure.
- 44:27Speaker 3: For sure, here's the thing that he has to understand.
- 44:30Speaker 3: And this is a credit to Clemson. They are now
- 44:33Speaker 3: in the club of Alabama, Ohio State l s U. Georgia,
- 44:40Speaker 3: where for a long time it was a verb because
- 44:44Speaker 3: you found ways to lose games. Clemsoning was a verb, right,
- 44:47Speaker 3: people talked about it. Well, now you're you're a pillar
- 44:50Speaker 3: of college football. And when you're a pillar, when things
- 44:53Speaker 3: are going great, they're high highs. When things are going bad,
- 44:57Speaker 3: you're held to a different standard, a standard that oftentimes
- 45:00Speaker 3: is unfair. Ryan Day went through it last year, well,
- 45:05Speaker 3: the last couple of years.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Forty one one.
- 45:07Speaker 3: Right, Coach O wins the national championship, maybe the best
- 45:10Speaker 3: college football team we've ever seen.
- 45:11Speaker 2: A year and half later, he's gone.
- 45:13Speaker 3: That's just what it is in places like that, there's
- 45:16Speaker 3: like five of them.
- 45:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Clemson's in that club now.
- 45:19Speaker 4: It did have some Mike Gundy vibes because he's like,
- 45:21Speaker 4: I'm fifty five.
- 45:23Speaker 8: He's like, I'm fifty five. I'm not going to the
- 45:25Speaker 8: beach or something like that.
- 45:27Speaker 2: Yeah, if Clemson's tired of winning, they can send me
- 45:30Speaker 2: on my way, but I'm gonna go somewhere else. And
- 45:32Speaker 2: Coach I ain't going to the beach. Hell, I'm fifty five.
- 45:35Speaker 2: I got a long way to go. The credit credit to.
- 45:38Speaker 5: Dubbin for getting Clemson where they are.
- 45:40Speaker 9: But all he does is, look, how about this program
- 45:42Speaker 9: was before I got there, Like.
- 45:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you've been there a while while it's been
- 45:46Speaker 2: a minute, Like stop flashback and dude our three would
- 45:49Speaker 2: you rather? Dear Delane, you're all coming back your way
- 45:52Speaker 2: here on O TV.
- 45:53Speaker 1: Off the bench,
