- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody. Good morning.
- 0:30So we are in the middle of a drought here, and this is
- 0:33extremely abnormal. The pond on our property is
- 0:39probably a good 3 1/2 feet low, maybe closer to 4.
- 0:44Thank goodness it's deep, 11 feet, 12 feet at the deepest.
- 0:48But we are in a drought and we don't use the pond to water
- 0:51anything. But it doesn't matter because
- 0:55there are things in there. Our koi are in there.
- 0:57There are things living in there and now we haven't had rain.
- 1:02It's significant rain in any like I, I don't remember the
- 1:05last time it significantly rained.
- 1:08And when it does rain, it's just trying to catch back up so we
- 1:12never get back to abundance with it.
- 1:15And this whole drought has just caused so many interesting
- 1:21thoughts for me, besides the issues, because I have to come
- 1:24out here and I will not waste water, so I will not turn on
- 1:28irrigation. So I come out and I hand water
- 1:31things every night. And that normally years ago when
- 1:36we did not have irrigation, when we first got the farm, about
- 1:40five years ago, it would irritate me to water and I
- 1:45'cause I just, I had so many things to do.
- 1:47That's what I told myself. And now because of the drought,
- 1:51I have learned that hand watering things is a way to be
- 1:55accurate. Not waste the water.
- 1:57Don't water the weeds, water what's alive that you want to
- 2:00keep alive and be very thoughtful with it.
- 2:05This process of me believing that has saved me in other areas
- 2:10because I was able to save certain plants from getting hit
- 2:14by bugs. I, I'm able to have eyes on
- 2:17problems quickly. It, it, it's just, it's totally
- 2:22shifted my belief around the time I spend with things doing
- 2:29chores, because I can see the benefit on the other side of
- 2:34conserving water, saving water and making sure now when we
- 2:37don't have any restrictions on us.
- 2:38But for me, it's just a, an awareness thing.
- 2:41If we're in a drought, I'm not going to waste any water and I
- 2:44want the and I want to take care of my plants at the same time
- 2:48that has given me such a shift of slowing down and saying,
- 2:54well, is it wrong to just click on the irrigation?
- 2:57No, it's not wrong. And sometimes I'll probably have
- 3:00to do it. I've, I've done it once since
- 3:03the and I've only done it for the flowers.
- 3:06I haven't done it for the vegetable garden at all.
- 3:10And I feel as though the lesson in this for me is pulling back
- 3:18and saying, if I have the time to grow all of this in the
- 3:21beginning through the winter, I have to make the time to care
- 3:25for it in the spring. I have to choose to make the
- 3:27time to care for it in the spring.
- 3:29So that is causing me the ripple effect of saying, OK, well, if I
- 3:34want to do that, then I have to plan my spring projects
- 3:37differently. And instead of saying it's a
- 3:38spring project, it's actually a winter project to get like 80%
- 3:43of it done. And then I can hit it in the
- 3:45spring and then I won't have to worry about doing it like so,
- 3:48for instance, if I want to put in a new part of the garden
- 3:53that's going to attract in pollinators.
- 3:56And I waited in, which is very true.
- 3:58This is what happened. I waited until early spring to
- 4:02start that project. I should have done it in the
- 4:07winter because there's no reason our winters aren't harsh enough
- 4:09that I have to do that. And I don't know why.
- 4:12And it made me question my pattern of why did I do it that
- 4:15way? Because I didn't want to be
- 4:16outside when it's cool. No, I actually like to work when
- 4:18it's cool outside. I don't like to work with it.
- 4:20Like today it's 80° and it's only 5:15 in the morning.
- 4:25So it's making me question everything.
- 4:28And the gift in the question is powerful.
- 4:31I mean, it's more powerful than I realized.
- 4:33So this ripple effect that things have, we as human beings
- 4:38often do not look further down the line.
- 4:41But now this is really causing me to create a whole different
- 4:44path of awareness. So where else can this show up
- 4:47in my life? OK, it's, it's we're coming up
- 4:50on June. It's almost the end of May.
- 4:52So the ripple effect in that way is OK, I want to look at my
- 4:56stuff halfway through the year. I don't want to wait to look
- 4:59until the quarter till or till the end of the year.
- 5:03I want, maybe I want to even do it quarterly.
- 5:05Whereas sometimes I, and when I say stuff, I mean business
- 5:08stuff. Do I want to look at it sooner
- 5:10so that by the end of December I'm not actually having to even
- 5:15struggle to put things together? I'm like, this is probably
- 5:18really good. I, I have often said, I think
- 5:21probably every year I'm going to do paperwork quarterly and I
- 5:24haven't done it and. This.
- 5:27Drought thing and this ripple effect that it's caused has
- 5:30really taught me that's stupid, Kim, you need to do it.
- 5:34So I am thanking the drought and I'm going to start doing some
- 5:39things differently based on what it has taught me from pulling
- 5:42out my hose and having to water everything by hand or choosing
- 5:46to water everything by hand. And I'm going to allow that
- 5:50ripple effect to teach me something across the board.
- 5:54So the question is, where can you use that lesson too?
- 5:57And where does that show up for you?
- 5:59And what ripple effect are you a part of right now?
- 6:02All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 6:05will see you tomorrow. Hopefully there's rain today.
- 6:07Pray for me. Bye.
