Transcript
- 0:00You're listening to Beyond the Sermon, the podcast of First
- 0:03Methodist Church in Collingswood, NJ.
- 0:05On our podcast, the goal is not just to share the sermons we've
- 0:08preached, but to go beyond the sermon and talk about what we're
- 0:12learning and what God is doing in US and in our community.
- 0:16The conversation you're about to join was inspired by a message
- 0:19from our Spring 2026 sermon series, Empowered, Understanding
- 0:24and Exercising the Gifts of the Spirit.
- 0:26You can find more information about our church at
- 0:29fumccollingswood.org. Thanks for joining us for this
- 0:33conversation. So, Jeremy, you preached this
- 0:36past Sunday and you were jumping us from Acts back to Genesis and
- 0:46making the connection there between the day of Pentecost and
- 0:49the Tower of Babel and what God was doing in undoing what
- 0:56humanity had done at Babel. But tell me, how was Santa Claus
- 1:02supposed to figure into this sermon series?
- 1:05This sermon? One of my alternative message
- 1:10titles was Is Santa Claus real? And Scott was just like Santa
- 1:14Claus and Penteclaus question mark.
- 1:18I was like, is it not obvious? Scott?
- 1:21No, it was was thinking about how we start the, you know, as
- 1:29every kid as you grow, when you start to question if Santa Claus
- 1:33is real or not. And you're going through all
- 1:36these things and had a story of my Santa Claus used to come to
- 1:40my family's gathering every Christmas Eve, my aunt's house
- 1:46and give us all like a pre Christmas present.
- 1:49And then I was at the age where I started to like, you're like,
- 1:54I'm on to this. And so when he came through the
- 1:58door, I was like, that's Uncle Dennis in a costume.
- 2:03And then and then my Uncle Dennis peeked his head out from
- 2:07downstairs. He's like right here, bud.
- 2:08And I was like, jaw dropped. Turns out it was my cousin
- 2:14Billy, but a second cousin who's older and looks more like Santa
- 2:19Claus. And yeah.
- 2:22But it's this whole like, OK, when we start questioning the
- 2:27giver of the gifts, like we start seeking out the evidence
- 2:30to support even the existence of the giver of the gifts.
- 2:36And So what evidence do we have to uphold what we what we
- 2:40proclaim as truth on Pentecost? And so that's where that could
- 2:46have gone. But then like as I was gone I
- 2:48was like I feel like I need to stay on one Rd. instead of tap
- 2:52dancing on two or three so. Yeah, I was wondering if it was
- 2:55going to be a little bit more along the lines of going back to
- 2:58what Jesus said in Luke elevenish, where he was talking
- 3:03and told the disciples, you know, how much more will the
- 3:06Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and kind
- 3:11of tie it in if you ask, if we don't ask where you're going to
- 3:15get, you know? Oh, that's a good one too.
- 3:17But yeah, yeah. But no, that's how Santa Claus
- 3:21was going to potentially make an appearance.
- 3:25There you go. Yeah, the things you never quite
- 3:27know what's going to show up in. Isn't that terrifying for you,
- 3:31Scott I? Mean a little bit, a little bit.
- 3:35Yep, Sunday morning. Are we going to mention Acts 2
- 3:39during the server? I assumed that you were, but I
- 3:45wanted to be prepared. If not, it's important to read
- 3:48those stories. It is over and over again and
- 3:51so. Yeah, that's, that's all very,
- 3:52very important, you know? Yeah.
- 3:54Just like even in On Palm Sunday, I didn't necessarily
- 3:58preach about Palm Sunday Scripture passage, but tied it
- 4:05in earlier in the service and were able to reference back to
- 4:07it. So just that kind of thing.
- 4:08Yeah, yeah. The the the things the senior
- 4:12pastor thinks about it. 5 minutes till 9:00 on Sunday
- 4:16morning. Anything else that you were
- 4:20hoping to get into the sermon or that you did get in but maybe
- 4:25felt like in hindsight, you're like, oh, I wish I'd spent a
- 4:29little more. Yeah, well, I mean, it was more
- 4:34two things just to like keep it connected to like the the title
- 4:40of the message, I guess to Infinity and beyond to even just
- 4:43like rehash that connection. So it's like, you know, he
- 4:48shouts to Infinity and beyond, but he's very much stuck in the
- 4:52finite and limited within his circumstances.
- 4:55He's not. And then could have more
- 4:57smoothly ended the sermon with like the on our own.
- 5:03You know, we can fall with style, but with the Holy Spirit
- 5:06we can go to Infinity and beyond.
- 5:08Yeah, I feel like would have been a smoother clothes.
- 5:11But someone had even mentioned me.
- 5:12They're like, it looked like you were going to say something a
- 5:15little more at the end there. And, and at the very last
- 5:23second, I felt like partially led.
- 5:26And maybe as I'm learning more and more to listen to the soft
- 5:30whisper, I should have just done it, but I thought I might have
- 5:32been running overtime. Who'd a thunk of sharing
- 5:36testimony from the Awakening project and just, but like
- 5:40literally didn't even think of that before that moment.
- 5:44And then I was like, I don't know how to transition into
- 5:46that. I don't know how necessarily
- 5:49what part of that I'd be directly connecting to what I
- 5:52just shared and but now I'm kind of in a in a moment of regret
- 5:57that I didn't just go with it and the Lord doesn't need good
- 6:02organization for a spirit to speak.
- 6:04So kind of yeah, beating myself up on that one for not sure.
- 6:10Just trust in the the little nudge it's.
- 6:13One of the worst things is after you've preached A sermon and
- 6:16you're like. Oh.
- 6:19I don't know about you, but for me it's always like a, oh, I
- 6:23could have said that better, or maybe I should have said this,
- 6:25or maybe, yeah, it's always like a autopsy afterwards and I'm
- 6:30second guessing. Well, there's like, yeah,
- 6:32there's the little things that like.
- 6:33I feel good about it. Yeah, that like, oh, if I had
- 6:36just a little more time, then I, I would have preferred those two
- 6:39things I'd mentioned. But this was way more like the
- 6:42in the moment. And like, even now in retrospect
- 6:45is like, OK, I could have tied it, but like, I feel like God
- 6:48knew what he wanted to do with it.
- 6:50And I, I hesitated and yeah, done it, but I don't even know
- 6:57which like, because even in that moment I was like, I have 3 or 4
- 7:01testimonies that I, that I think show the power of the Holy
- 7:06Spirit. And a couple of them, well,
- 7:08technically all of them didn't involve just me, but a couple of
- 7:12them in included our college kids.
- 7:15And I didn't want to, without their permission, share what
- 7:18might be more their testimony than mine to share.
- 7:21So that's why I yeah. Any of them you feel like you
- 7:25could share with us now? So at Awakening Project, which
- 7:34was this conference for college kids and young adults with the
- 7:40goal of equipping and inspiring revival individually and into
- 7:45our communities. And they just really created a
- 7:53safe environment to explore time with God how you want to in the
- 8:02worship sessions, how you want to praise, how you want to
- 8:06receive, really, really hard to articulate their.
- 8:11Tagline is creating communities of encounter and mission.
- 8:17Yeah, they succeeded. Yeah, they succeeded.
- 8:20And I think it really stretched all of us in the best way.
- 8:24And so all of us are yearning for something or pursuing
- 8:29something new afterwards, even if it's all different and for
- 8:33different reasons. As it should be, right?
- 8:36Because we've been talking about throughout this whole sermon
- 8:38series, right? He gives different gifts to
- 8:41different people. He's got different roles for
- 8:42different people to play. So he's going to meet people in
- 8:45different ways. Yeah.
- 8:46And so I during one of the things they do to bridge the
- 8:52community, because there's maybe like 3 to 500 people in
- 8:55attendance. So you're kind of seeing the
- 8:56same group every single day is they do kind of like a find a
- 9:01stranger get to know you question in the opening sections
- 9:05of each session. And so even though you only talk
- 9:10to them for like maybe 2 minutes, then just the way the
- 9:14community behaves or the culture of this community we cultivate
- 9:18so quickly is then like throughout the day, you're just
- 9:21like, hey, and you're just like, that's your person.
- 9:24And so one of the people I got to know, her name is Sophia.
- 9:29And as soon as I heard Sophia, I was like Latina.
- 9:33And so we started talking in Spanish.
- 9:35And yeah, so, so we had like the quickest 2 minute encounter.
- 9:40And then the day after that, we were doing our last session and
- 9:47they were sharing testimony after testimony after testimony
- 9:49was like a testimony service. It was incredible.
- 9:53And I could see her from across the room and was just like, I
- 9:58don't know. I felt like God was wanting me
- 10:01to share with her that she belonged in both communities.
- 10:06She fully belonged in both communities.
- 10:09And I connected that with my being biracial and my mom always
- 10:16felt bad that she's like, I don't fully belong in the
- 10:19States. I don't fully belong in Mexico.
- 10:22And then the Lord revealed to her that like, no, I get double.
- 10:25It's not half of each. It's not less than, but I I get
- 10:29double and it's a gift and a blessing and it is.
- 10:31So I was like, Oh, she must, you know, also be biracial.
- 10:34And this is what God wants me to like pass on to her.
- 10:37And I kept hesitating because I was like, we're listening to
- 10:40these great testimonies. I don't want to distract from
- 10:42like testimony time. Maybe later I can, I can find
- 10:46her and just kept feeling that nudge.
- 10:48So walked around the room and knelt on the knee.
- 10:52She was sitting and listening and I was like, Hey, she's like,
- 10:54oh, hey, Jeremy. And I was like, by chance, are
- 10:58you biracial? She's like, no.
- 11:01And I was like, well, I don't know where to go from there.
- 11:07Just kind of like I pause that you could see what like my
- 11:10little shock. And she was like, but but keep
- 11:13going. What did you what did you want
- 11:14to say? But I love that because because
- 11:20sometimes we hear something from God and we filter it through our
- 11:22own filters and we think we know what he's trying to say or how
- 11:27he's trying to come at something but tell the rest of the story.
- 11:32And so, and feel free to stop at any point because I know there's
- 11:35pieces to it that people may not understand how it applies to
- 11:38their own process. Yeah.
- 11:40So she's like, oh, we'll keep going.
- 11:43And I was like, I feel like God was leading me to share with you
- 11:49that you fully belong in both communities.
- 11:53And she takes off her glasses and just bursts into tears.
- 11:57And I was like, oh, what did I do?
- 12:00Or like, or like obviously like I, I've done, it's happened
- 12:05enough times. I'm like, OK, it was definitely
- 12:07God. And I'm, I'm, it's not like,
- 12:10what did I do? It's like, what did God do?
- 12:12And I have 0 context for what? For what he's doing.
- 12:17What did I just step into with? Yeah, yeah.
- 12:20And so she, she started opening up and I'll give you like the
- 12:25combine because she shared a little bit then to try and catch
- 12:28me up. And then after the service, she
- 12:30found me and wanted to give me more context.
- 12:33But apparently she grew up in Mexico up until the age of 6.
- 12:37And then they moved to Tennessee.
- 12:39And she's been going back and forth and didn't feel fully a
- 12:43part of the culture in Tennessee, didn't feel fully a
- 12:46part of the culture in Mexico, and felt like she had dealt with
- 12:52that healing. And as soon as I said those
- 12:57words, she said it was like the wound was reopened and healed at
- 13:03the same time. And but what was more pertinent
- 13:08to our current situation is that she's an art major and art
- 13:13student. And she feels like the art world
- 13:16is very liberal, progressive, and not very fond of
- 13:20Christianity. So she feels like she's too
- 13:23Christian for the art community, but to artsy for the Christian
- 13:27community, and has been really struggling to balance that in
- 13:30our daily life. And the Lord wanted to speak
- 13:33into that. And then later she even gave me
- 13:36a context of that. She used to write short stories
- 13:41and the main character was based off of herself and she always
- 13:45depicted the character as biracial.
- 13:48Because of that tension. Because of that tension.
- 13:51And so I was just like, wow, God's so good.
- 13:54And so we're both like, just celebrating like that God cares
- 13:57enough to, you know, talk to her and meet her in that moment and
- 14:00all that kind of stuff. And that was just one of dozens
- 14:04of testimonies we heard during Awakening Project.
- 14:09But that was definitely, yeah, an incredible thing to
- 14:14participate in and witness God move and speak.
- 14:18And yeah, yeah. And just such a good example,
- 14:22right, of how we can think we know what God wants to do, but
- 14:29sometimes we get it wrong and he still uses it right.
- 14:35We don't have to know what God's trying to do in order to be
- 14:39faithful to do what he's asked us to do, whether that's sharing
- 14:44words or actually physically doing something.
- 14:48We don't know all the ways that that he's moving and working and
- 14:54that's OK. Yeah, yeah, it's scary.
- 14:58Yeah. For sure.
- 15:00It's intimidating when you're like.
- 15:02Oh, this isn't the way I go in the way I thought it was going
- 15:05to go. Yeah.
- 15:06And like even just within the circumstances of like, there's
- 15:09got to be a better time, right? We're in the middle of receiving
- 15:13and listening and learning. And I feel like I'm just about
- 15:15to, you know, distract her from what God is already doing in
- 15:19this space. And so, yeah, I kind of which
- 15:23then makes me more flustered that I didn't just share, like
- 15:29take the moment to pause. I even thought about as we were
- 15:33singing to him, like, is there a way for me to like, bring it
- 15:36back, share it and then do the benediction.
- 15:39Then people are standing and we have to tell them to sit and
- 15:41then like all About me in format and, you know, expectations for
- 15:47church, instead of just taking that time to formulate it, share
- 15:52it, and trusting that God can use it.
- 15:53Because one of the beautiful things I think in Tyler
- 15:58Stanton's book and the chapter on prophecy.
- 16:02His book, The Familiar Stranger. Yes, sorry.
- 16:05The book that they've been reading in Sunday school, The
- 16:07Familiar stranger. He talks about how through
- 16:11Christian history, we have assumed, grown to assume, that
- 16:16the most important words spoken on a Sunday are from the
- 16:20preaching and the teaching. Yeah.
- 16:22And sometimes God wants to something more powerful with
- 16:27something much more simpler and less prepared.
- 16:30And so that's where I'm like this kind of been like, God
- 16:37could have wanted this and use this for something far greater
- 16:41than anything I prepped earlier. And so, yeah.
- 16:47Yeah, yeah, but and sometimes it's just a word, right?
- 16:53Or you know you belong in both cultures.
- 16:58Yeah, you fully belong in both spaces or communities.
- 17:02I think it's communities. It's like. 5 or 6 words, right?
- 17:05It wasn't like he gave you a whole sermon to preach to her.
- 17:08It wasn't, it wasn't like he gave you a scripture passage.
- 17:11It's just 5 or 6 words. Yeah, and the amount of and.
- 17:17That was enough. Healing and reassurance and
- 17:21clarity that he's able to provide.
- 17:23Yeah, through that, which is way holier than our man efforts as
- 17:28we were talking about on Sunday. Like, you know, I could have
- 17:31been like, oh, how to inspire this person in this context and
- 17:35tried to ramble on for two hours and it not have the same effect
- 17:38as God. Yeah, yeah.
- 17:43Yeah, and I think it what you're describing goes back to what I
- 17:47was talking about a couple weeks ago in that sermon that I called
- 17:52the empowered life, right? Where the four different lenses
- 17:56that kind of come? Together, yeah.
- 17:59Yeah, the Venn diagram that kind of puts the empowered life right
- 18:04at the middle though. It's it's that faithful walking
- 18:09with the Spirit using using the gifts when that's how he chooses
- 18:14to. But I think while some people
- 18:17are given a specific gift of prophecy or words of knowledge
- 18:22or whatever you want to call out there, we're all supposed to be
- 18:29in communication with him, right?
- 18:31And it's, it's that intimate relationship where when he
- 18:38speaks, we listen and we respond hopefully in obedience.
- 18:45Would you say in your own experience that when God speaks
- 18:54to you like that it feels more like that's what he wants for
- 19:00everyone? Or does this feel like it's
- 19:03different than how God speaks to other?
- 19:05People what I've experienced, yeah, I can't speak for all
- 19:11other people, but but. In talking with other people.
- 19:14I haven't met someone that that's had the same exact
- 19:20experience. I've met others like Ivan
- 19:26Philby, yeah, who wrote the book Speak Tenderly, that I feel like
- 19:33has gotten similar clarity. But even even when when talking
- 19:39about it with other people that have had similar experiences, it
- 19:44can vary so differently on like because it's hard to articulate.
- 19:51Like it's hard to articulate the exact sensation or feeling or
- 19:55thought process or discerning. And there's some healthy ways to
- 20:01navigate it. But God's always working in new
- 20:05like even in the times that it's happened with me, it's been
- 20:07slightly different each time. I feel like I'm starting to have
- 20:11a better, maybe like conversational dynamic with God.
- 20:17We're like. I'm more aware of how he's
- 20:22speaking to me or trying to lead me.
- 20:25Yeah, because of multiple instances that are similar.
- 20:30But yeah, I don't know how. To let me reframe it then, yeah,
- 20:34when, when God spoke to you about Sophia, did it seem
- 20:39different than how you normally interact with God?
- 20:44Oh, for sure. I wasn't even talking about
- 20:46anything. Yeah.
- 20:48Like I was listening to the testimonies and then look over.
- 20:51I was like, oh, Sophia. And then it was on the
- 20:53testimonies. And then he just kept like re
- 20:56diverting my attention. And so that's one of the ways in
- 21:00which I know he's usually nudging at me because like I'd
- 21:06see someone like Sophie and be like, oh, it's nice, Focus on
- 21:09the testimony, not think of her again.
- 21:11Like, it just how my brain works.
- 21:14And so when it's like this constant redirecting, when it's
- 21:17like this isn't really what I want to focus on in the moment,
- 21:22then that similarly to testimony I think I've already shared on
- 21:26the podcast from winner Retreat couple years ago, 2 winners ago,
- 21:33we're like, I'm just trying to focus on worship and leading the
- 21:35kids and all that kind of stuff. And God just kept kind of like
- 21:39re diverting my attention. And so that's been most of my
- 21:42experiences for myself. At Ivan Philby's session, he
- 21:48like was showing how to more how he tries to seek after it.
- 21:54And so that was interesting. It's worked before, but that's
- 22:00not normally how it's happened for me.
- 22:03But maybe I should be seeking it more like that more regularly.
- 22:06I don't, yeah. I don't know.
- 22:08It's when with all this being new territory for listeners,
- 22:13right, And also for us as it's trying to navigate it.
- 22:18Well, is interesting. I think going to look a little
- 22:21different for everyone, but we're still pursuing the same
- 22:25God, not pursuing the same gifts, but pursuing the same
- 22:29God. And He'll bless and provide and
- 22:33use us however He. And that's really the key,
- 22:37right? Even not just that we're
- 22:39pursuing the same God and not the same gifts, but we need to
- 22:43pursue God the giver rather than the gifts, right?
- 22:50Because it's, it's as we grow in intimacy with God that he
- 22:57reveals more to us. He leads, we're more open to his
- 23:00leading. And then as we obey and we show
- 23:05that we're going to be faithful, when He does lead us, then He
- 23:09entrusts us with more. Yeah, yeah.
- 23:11One of the things they said during our worship time at
- 23:13Awakening Project was that we praise and worship because he's
- 23:18worthy and that should be it. Now when we praise and worship,
- 23:24a byproduct may be that we are blessed by Him and we sense His
- 23:29presence more strongly, but we do not worship and praise Him in
- 23:33order to be blessed and sense His presence.
- 23:36It's just, it's those little perspective shifts that can make
- 23:40all the difference for sure. It's like when you go to the eye
- 23:44doctor and they're like one or two and get the two different
- 23:49lenses and. You know it's.
- 23:50Like all of a sudden you're like, oh, that's what I've been
- 23:53missing. Or you just memorize the letters
- 23:56on the chart like me and you but.
- 24:00That's not helpful. No, it's not helpful.
- 24:04It's not helpful. It's like when you know how to
- 24:05say all the words and do all the practices and be all the
- 24:08Christian Y stuff. And so people be like, Oh my
- 24:12gosh, they can see clearly because they, you know, know all
- 24:16that stuff. I didn't even know all that
- 24:17stuff. And yeah, there can be some
- 24:21trickery and tomfoolery, not even intentionally all the time.
- 24:24Sometimes we can just convince ourselves and we don't take the
- 24:27time to really step back and even recognize that that's what
- 24:31we're doing. I think the last thing I would
- 24:33mention is just the what I loved about the Awakening Project is
- 24:38this freedom to explore without fear of judgement and shame and
- 24:45their worship and the use of their spiritual gifts and all of
- 24:50these things. And even in discussion class
- 24:52this week, people were talking about, well, oh, I don't know if
- 24:56I want to go worship at the altar at any point in the
- 24:58service because people will be like trying to figure out why I
- 25:03went up to the altar and I'll. Wish we could break.
- 25:07That and all that kind of stuff. And I'm like, we're really,
- 25:11really far back from the freedom that we experienced from the
- 25:15Awakening project where we had college young adults hands up
- 25:22worshipping. We had them on their knees.
- 25:25We had them sitting up against the wall and their Bibles during
- 25:29worship. Some flat on their face.
- 25:32Some went up straight to the cross and just sat at the cross.
- 25:35Others just going up and, and praying over each other in the
- 25:38background during, you know, the we're singing time.
- 25:43And so I think it's not only a detriment to our worship to not
- 25:49have an environment and culture with the freedom to do that or
- 25:54feel like you have the freedom to do that without judgement at
- 25:58which also, I mean, this is more for me, not saying we should do
- 26:01this here, but they intentionally said come with as
- 26:03comfortable clothes as possible because we just want you to be
- 26:06comfortable in the space physically and in every other
- 26:10aspect. And so it wasn't about what you
- 26:13were wearing. It was focused on the freedom
- 26:15and worship. I think the detriment it not
- 26:19only has on our community as we worship, but I think with our
- 26:24college kids when they went and they experienced this, there was
- 26:29such disparity. No, such a disparity.
- 26:34Is that the term like a separation?
- 26:36Like they were so different than their worship experience at
- 26:39home? Such a.
- 26:40Distinction between the two that it was, are we doing it wrong?
- 26:48Am I doing it wrong? Am I not really Christian
- 26:52because I don't worship like that.
- 26:54And they look like they're having a deep encounter with
- 26:57God. And I've, I've never even raised
- 27:01my hands in worship. Maybe a couple times at passion
- 27:05or it's like, or are they doing it wrong and it's fabricated and
- 27:07emotional and we're doing it right and then we start building
- 27:11up our pride? Or is it like, OK, well, then
- 27:15there's so many expressions of Christian worship.
- 27:19Who's doing it right? Am I doing it wrong?
- 27:22Like, and then is it just in the expression or does it even come
- 27:25to the theology? And so we're questioning
- 27:29theology. We're questioning how we
- 27:32worship. We question the validity of our
- 27:34faith because of this drastic difference.
- 27:38And all over the world, we have we have differences.
- 27:40And I loved one of the preachers Alvarez at the Awakening Project
- 27:46was talking about how, like, in Latin America, it's super lively
- 27:50in their worship. And then they go to England and
- 27:52it's super quiet and stand still, and both parties are
- 27:56like, they're doing it wrong. And then we have all these
- 27:59different kinds, and it's OK. I think the way he described it
- 28:03is like, if you're pursuing God wholeheartedly, the way he meets
- 28:09us will look different. Yeah.
- 28:12And so it's not that it's a different God, it's not that
- 28:15it's one or the other. It's is that he expresses
- 28:18themselves differently. He's worshipped differently.
- 28:21He created such a creative spectrum within his creation
- 28:28that it's not about the what it looks like, but the hearts of
- 28:32the people and the God that they're yearning for to praise
- 28:35and worship and encounter. And so how do we, how do we open
- 28:41up the doors in our hearts and our church for the opportunity
- 28:46for people to feel comfortable and safe to worship God, how
- 28:51they feel comfortable doing so? Which then also when you do that
- 28:57and everyone starts doing that for others, that gives you more
- 29:00of a freedom to worship and meet him however you feel most
- 29:05comfortable. Yeah, I wish we could get to the
- 29:07point where we didn't think about the different parts of our
- 29:10service as being like, oh, this is the part for me and this is
- 29:14the part for other people, you know, whatever those parts might
- 29:18be. But that we could all just say,
- 29:20like, I'm going to engage as best as I can and worship here
- 29:27at this point, knowing that someone sitting a few rows away
- 29:32from me, this might be their preferred way.
- 29:35And rather than judging that it's different from the way you
- 29:39might prefer, there would be a just an openness to what the
- 29:45Spirit might want to do in the midst of that worship.
- 29:50And that was even a stretch for me at this because they didn't
- 29:53even put up lyrics on the screen.
- 29:55So no pamphlets, no books, no lyrics.
- 29:58No, you're so funny. No, it was literally and at
- 30:02first I was like, oh, maybe it's just like the opening session.
- 30:05And because it's like a few familiar songs that know the
- 30:08whole time, 3 days with probably combined like 3 1/2, four hours
- 30:14of worship. It was just, and they would jump
- 30:17like they would just do maybe like a couple verses and chorus
- 30:20from this one and jump into another one.
- 30:22We'd go into a hymn and then we'd only do like one verse and
- 30:25chorus of that hymn and then switch to something else.
- 30:28And it was beautiful and it was slow.
- 30:30But there were songs that I didn't know.
- 30:31There was at least 5 or 6 songs that I didn't know at all.
- 30:33Some of them I could pick up after a little bit and others I
- 30:36was like, I don't need to. I can still rest and praise and
- 30:39worship without having to use my voice to do so.
- 30:43And it wasn't just we know when we talk about like different
- 30:46styles or preferences. Like we had every single type
- 30:50type of song from old hymns to early 2000s Chris Tomlin to
- 30:55what's now like some of the most popular praise and worship.
- 30:58And yeah, that was really beautiful.
- 31:01And I'm sorry most of the listeners are too old to go to
- 31:04the Awakening project, but we can make our church an awakening
- 31:09project where we want to see revival and see God move in our
- 31:12midst after we seek after Him as a community, not after what we
- 31:17anticipate A revival to look like.
- 31:20Here. Well, that's our conversation
- 31:23for today, but that doesn't mean the conversation is over.
- 31:27We'd love to hear your thoughts on these topics as well.
