- 0:01Speaker 1: The issues, the interviews and the insight. Ryan Bridge on
- 0:05Speaker 1: an early edition with one root Love where you Live
- 0:09Speaker 1: News Talks, there'd be good.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Morning, Welcome to Monday. Just gone six after five, Nick
- 0:12Speaker 2: Sawtaner before six on this new events fund from the government.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Gavin Gray in Europe as potent tests the limits of
- 0:19Speaker 2: NATO also will talk to our reporters around the country.
- 0:22Speaker 2: And Andrew Elderson, I should say on sport this morning
- 0:25Speaker 2: and how many schools are struggling to get kids into
- 0:29Speaker 2: class as the government has directed. It's all ahead the
- 0:34Speaker 2: agenda Monday, the fifteen September, Cabinet could be making a
- 0:37Speaker 2: call on Palestine as early as today. Meanwhile, Marca Rubio's
- 0:41Speaker 2: and Israel, despite the strikes in Doha, everything's still all
- 0:44Speaker 2: g in the relationship.
- 0:45Speaker 3: There was a very public and deliberate display of unity
- 0:48Speaker 3: this afternoon between Benjamin Ettenio and Marco Rubio at the
- 0:52Speaker 3: Western Wall. But I think given the week of tensions
- 0:55Speaker 3: between these two countries, these two incredibly close allies, they're
- 1:00Speaker 3: trying to make sure their relationship is that publicly at
- 1:02Speaker 3: least a very strong and nonoether. That's Miister Rubo had
- 1:05Speaker 3: said on his way here that he reiterated America's disappointment.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Meanwhile, after being hit last week, the Qataris say that
- 1:13Speaker 2: no goal state is safe.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I think that we are dealing now with a leadership
- 1:18Speaker 1: that is unhinked. We are dealing with a prime minister
- 1:21Speaker 1: that believes that he can hechiave the Middle East in
- 1:23Speaker 1: his own image, which is an image of chaos.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Meanwhile, in America, Tyler Robinson this is the guy who
- 1:28Speaker 2: they reckon assassinated Charlie Kirk. His family are Conservatives, but
- 1:32Speaker 2: they reckon that the sun went the other way. Obviously
- 1:35Speaker 2: quite radically. The dad told him to surrender.
- 1:38Speaker 4: Formal criminal charges will be filed next Tuesday, and on
- 1:41Speaker 4: that day, the twenty two year old suspect is expected
- 1:44Speaker 4: to make his first initial court appearance. He will not
- 1:47Speaker 4: be taken from this jail here in Utah County to
- 1:50Speaker 4: the courthouse. He will appear in the courtroom virtually.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Ricky Hadden this is the former world boxing champion found dead.
- 1:56Speaker 2: At his time, he's only forty six. Nothing suspicious, though tragic.
- 2:00Speaker 5: News only for the world of boxing, not only for Britain.
- 2:03Speaker 6: He was a massive name and he's going to be
- 2:06Speaker 6: definitely messed news.
- 2:08Speaker 1: And views you trust to start your day. It's early
- 2:12Speaker 1: edition with Bryan Bridge and one roof love where you
- 2:16Speaker 1: live news talks.
- 2:17Speaker 2: That'd be eight after five nine nine two is the
- 2:19Speaker 2: number to text love hearing from you. If I was
- 2:21Speaker 2: Scott Robertson, I wouldn't be reading the comments section in
- 2:24Speaker 2: a hurry after Saturday. Their comments were kind of funny, though.
- 2:27Speaker 2: One guy said he was more of a blunt pair
- 2:29Speaker 2: of scissors than a razor. That was probably the most
- 2:32Speaker 2: generous and docile of the Sunday morning media blitz. Among
- 2:36Speaker 2: the calls, sack him, drop Barrett's captain, ditch half the backs,
- 2:40Speaker 2: the midfields get taller, props, get bigger fords, clean out
- 2:44Speaker 2: the coaching staff. Basically, just go into the changing sheds
- 2:47Speaker 2: and fire everyone that you can see. This is his
- 2:52Speaker 2: second season, after all, and they were struggling to do
- 2:55Speaker 2: things like catch a ball, score a try, you know
- 2:59Speaker 2: when a scrum, defend the line, score points, all those
- 3:02Speaker 2: important things. It was like somebody had turned their batteries
- 3:05Speaker 2: off at halftime and they're all just gone into sleep mode.
- 3:08Speaker 2: This is obviously a visceral reaction to the worst loss
- 3:11Speaker 2: in the history of the black jersey. But the World
- 3:14Speaker 2: Cup is still two years away. There's time to make changes,
- 3:17Speaker 2: time to get better. Does he have world class players
- 3:21Speaker 2: on his side, Scott Robertson, is the problem the coaching
- 3:23Speaker 2: or is it the quality of the team. There's time
- 3:27Speaker 2: to make changes, but you'd have to say the runway
- 3:29Speaker 2: is getting a little short and getting a little tight.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Bit like Chris Luxon with politics, leaderships are balancing act,
- 3:36Speaker 2: not a knee jerkers game. It's about tough calls, but
- 3:39Speaker 2: not throwing the baby out with the bath water, as
- 3:41Speaker 2: the commenters on the weekend would have you do. Ryan
- 3:44Speaker 2: breadalb it's ten minutes after five. Now to party Mardi,
- 3:48Speaker 2: the Marori Party, Happy Malori language week. But where are you?
- 3:53Speaker 2: What are you up to? Absolute shambles in the last week,
- 3:56Speaker 2: well not just the last week, but particularly in the
- 3:58Speaker 2: last week. Try and ask them a question. They get
- 4:02Speaker 2: quite arrogant about that. They either don't talk to you
- 4:05Speaker 2: or they refuse to answer questions that you ask. I
- 4:07Speaker 2: have three for them this morning. If you're listening up
- 4:10Speaker 2: there at Debbie and at Arity, why did Debbie take
- 4:15Speaker 2: the whips role? It's a weird thing to do to
- 4:17Speaker 2: give the whips role to your co leader. Was it
- 4:19Speaker 2: the extra twenty grand in salary or was there something
- 4:24Speaker 2: that's happened? Is there had been an incident that you
- 4:26Speaker 2: need to take care of? And why aren't you telling
- 4:28Speaker 2: you people? Number two? Why have neither of you contacted
- 4:34Speaker 2: Taku to Ferris. This guy's been running around town embarrassing
- 4:39Speaker 2: you and saying, let's be honest and pretty racially charged stuff.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Why you have you not contacted him? He did an
- 4:46Speaker 2: airport stand up thing with a reporter on Friday, said
- 4:50Speaker 2: that he hasn't heard from either of them. Can you
- 4:52Speaker 2: believe that? And they're going around apologizing on his behalf
- 4:57Speaker 2: to the likes of Hipkins. Well, how meaningful as that
- 5:01Speaker 2: if they haven't even spoken to him? And number three,
- 5:04Speaker 2: where's your financial returns? You're audited financial returns? I don't
- 5:08Speaker 2: think we've seen those yet. It's eleven minutes after five.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Just a question for you if Labor if Hipkins ruled
- 5:15Speaker 2: out working with Tapati Mardi and tried to get there
- 5:19Speaker 2: on the Labor Green vote, do you think they would
- 5:23Speaker 2: see a boost in the polls. Obviously, old mate Winston's
- 5:26Speaker 2: ruled out Chippy but hasn't ruled out labor. Do you
- 5:30Speaker 2: think that would be a better strategy for them? Nineteen
- 5:34Speaker 2: nine two is the number to text eleven minutes after five.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Come up. Next we'll talk about the schools that can't
- 5:38Speaker 2: get kids into class. News Talks VB.
- 5:42Speaker 1: The News you Need this morning and the in depth
- 5:45Speaker 1: analysis early edition with Ryan Bridge and one Route Love
- 5:49Speaker 1: Where you Live. News Talks B.
- 5:51Speaker 2: It is five pin fourteen on News Talks VB. GDP
- 5:54Speaker 2: for quarter two is out Thursday, by the way, and
- 5:57Speaker 2: ASB has released their regional economic scorecard this morning. So
- 6:00Speaker 2: running through some numbers really quickly. Baye Plenty, you are
- 6:03Speaker 2: in first place. Congratulations, you're up from ten. Thank you
- 6:07Speaker 2: Kiwi fruit. First time in a decade both Plenty has
- 6:09Speaker 2: led the scoreboard. Consumer confidence up, house sales up. It
- 6:13Speaker 2: won't be any surprise to you that two, three and
- 6:15Speaker 2: four are all in the South Irelands, Southland, Otago, Canterbury.
- 6:19Speaker 2: And then at number five, up from number ten, is
- 6:22Speaker 2: none other than the City of Sales, Auckland. Congratulations. Finally
- 6:27Speaker 2: you're seeing some signs of life. People are feeling better,
- 6:30Speaker 2: retails holding up quite well, signs of confidence Auckland. Hopefully
- 6:34Speaker 2: this is the first sign that you're coming back baby.
- 6:37Speaker 2: It's fourteen after five, Bryan Bridge. One in four of
- 6:40Speaker 2: our schools need more help getting kids to attend class.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Data from the Ministry of Educations identified about six hundred
- 6:47Speaker 2: schools struggling to get eighty percent of students attending more
- 6:49Speaker 2: than ninety percent of the time, which is the government
- 6:52Speaker 2: target they want to hit by twenty thirty. Leanne or
- 6:54Speaker 2: tenni Is, the Principals Federation president, joins me. Now, LeAnn,
- 6:57Speaker 2: good morning. You say this is not about something the
- 7:03Speaker 2: schools can control, this is about other stuff, well other stuff.
- 7:07Speaker 7: Oh look, let's just start with the fact that we'd
- 7:10Speaker 7: like to see every single child attend school every day.
- 7:13Speaker 7: Principles absolutely agree that we need to focus on attendance,
- 7:18Speaker 7: but understanding the trends and why children away from school
- 7:21Speaker 7: is something that we just need to really look at closely.
- 7:25Speaker 7: There's two types of non attendance. So you've got you
- 7:29Speaker 7: justified and you're unjustified. And unfortunately the data that you're
- 7:33Speaker 7: you're you know, you've just quoted includes both. So you've
- 7:37Speaker 7: got you justified. Where kids are away from school for
- 7:40Speaker 7: family reasons, so death in the family, the children are
- 7:43Speaker 7: sick and let's be honest. This winter has not been
- 7:45Speaker 7: helpful and we've had a lot of kids away with sickness.
- 7:48Speaker 7: We've got mental health up as well. Those are justified reasons.
- 7:53Speaker 7: Unjustified that's a much smaller group of students and that
- 7:57Speaker 7: includes truancy which is very low. And then you've got transience,
- 8:01Speaker 7: which is what you're just alerting to the things that
- 8:04Speaker 7: schools can't really control on their own. There as a
- 8:07Speaker 7: kids shifting around the country for social housing rentals, you know,
- 8:12Speaker 7: moving to live with family. And then you've got five
- 8:15Speaker 7: percent you know of unemployment, so you've got families juggling
- 8:18Speaker 7: to find a job, so they're moving a lot to
- 8:20Speaker 7: find work. So although the data is showing that we've
- 8:25Speaker 7: got high and non attendance, there are reasons for it
- 8:28Speaker 7: and we need to look deeper into the data otherwise
- 8:32Speaker 7: where it's a distortion of the reality.
- 8:34Speaker 2: So we got like what forty two percent of students
- 8:36Speaker 2: not attending regularly and do you know what proportion of
- 8:39Speaker 2: justified versus unjustified.
- 8:42Speaker 7: Well, this is what the data is that is coming
- 8:44Speaker 7: out from you know, on this seamore a Minister Seymour
- 8:48Speaker 7: and saying, you know, we're looking at it on a
- 8:50Speaker 7: weekly basis at a school, every school, we'll be looking
- 8:55Speaker 7: at that data and we'll be determining which is justified,
- 8:58Speaker 7: which is unjustified, and they'll be working with those families
- 9:02Speaker 7: where the first of all the justified reasons kids are sick.
- 9:06Speaker 7: So you know we've now got health guidelines. Out's ont
- 9:08Speaker 7: of really staying to parents. You know, as a as
- 9:11Speaker 7: a child well enough to come to school.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Well, I think that man.
- 9:15Speaker 2: What about do you tell are you a principal of
- 9:17Speaker 2: a school?
- 9:18Speaker 7: Yes, I am?
- 9:19Speaker 2: What what's in yours? What's the percent's break down in
- 9:21Speaker 2: your school justified unjustified.
- 9:26Speaker 7: Changes on a weekly basis? I can't tell you overall
- 9:29Speaker 7: average trees. Yes, we're looking at trends.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Yet what the tree is telling you?
- 9:34Speaker 7: So we're looking at around about sixty five to seventy percent.
- 9:38Speaker 7: I'm in a load decile school. We've got children who is.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Justified or unjustified sixty five to seventy.
- 9:45Speaker 7: Five, there would be both that would be including both.
- 9:48Speaker 7: As we're looking at the unjustified reasons. You know, the
- 9:51Speaker 7: children that are are way because scoring out, we're probably
- 9:55Speaker 7: looking about six percent. We're looking at six percent of unjustified.
- 9:59Speaker 7: That's really small, and I would say that's the same
- 10:02Speaker 7: across the country of unjustified to say that parents are
- 10:06Speaker 7: keeping children home because they are too lazy, and that's
- 10:11Speaker 7: the quote of scene. It's just not fear. That is
- 10:14Speaker 7: not the reality. There's are so many other resents and.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Lean the twenty to thirty. So you've got like what
- 10:20Speaker 2: twenty to thirty percent of kids who are not attending
- 10:23Speaker 2: school for justified reasons. That seems like quite a lot
- 10:27Speaker 2: to be sick, doesn't it.
- 10:28Speaker 7: Yeah, well, you know, there's been lots of reporting on
- 10:32Speaker 7: illness this winter. We've had schools have had clothes because
- 10:35Speaker 7: the've had staff who are sick, and you know, they're
- 10:38Speaker 7: sharing the bugs. And this is the biggest concern we've
- 10:41Speaker 7: had around these health guidelines. Parents are sending their kids
- 10:45Speaker 7: to school sick or otherwise trying really desperately to meet
- 10:48Speaker 7: the demands of the school. Send your kids to school,
- 10:52Speaker 7: and as a result, we're sharing the bugs. Kids are
- 10:54Speaker 7: whole classrooms are going down with winter bugs. We've had
- 10:59Speaker 7: schools who all said that, you know, they've got a
- 11:02Speaker 7: very high number of staff away, So ok, a lot
- 11:06Speaker 7: of sick kids.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Leanne appreciate your time this morning, Leanne attending the Principals
- 11:09Speaker 2: Federation President. It has just gone nineteen minutes after five.
- 11:12Speaker 2: When I was at school and it wasn't that long ago,
- 11:15Speaker 2: but you would have like one or two kids in
- 11:17Speaker 2: the class who might be second a day. I need
- 11:19Speaker 2: to go back and look, what is the sick rate
- 11:23Speaker 2: now versus you know twenty thirty forty years ago. A
- 11:28Speaker 2: kid's getting more sick or appearance being more cautious, or
- 11:31Speaker 2: is the threshold now been lowered to stay home from school?
- 11:37Speaker 2: Nineteen minutes after five News Talks be Sport next.
- 11:42Speaker 1: The first word on the News of the Day Early
- 11:45Speaker 1: edition with Ryan Bridge and one roof love.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Where you live News Talks at b News Talks, it'd
- 11:52Speaker 2: be it's five twenty two on your Monday morning, Ryan.
- 11:54Speaker 2: I think the AB's need no Dame Knowles. Get Dame
- 11:57Speaker 2: Knowles in there for a pep talk. She's got a
- 11:59Speaker 2: bit of time on her hands. Thanks John, Ryan. That
- 12:01Speaker 2: principle you just had on is not credible. Another unionized
- 12:04Speaker 2: government hater.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Ryan.
- 12:05Speaker 2: The woman clearly hates David Seymour. I would have do
- 12:08Speaker 2: you know what, I would have liked a little more
- 12:09Speaker 2: detail from someone who's running one of our schools, Andrew
- 12:14Speaker 2: Ortison's sport. Good morning, morning Ryan. Not a great day
- 12:18Speaker 2: on Saturday for the Abs.
- 12:20Speaker 5: No, no, And I know lots to be made of
- 12:23Speaker 5: the record defeat, et cetera. I mean they were in
- 12:25Speaker 5: it in the first half if you think, you know,
- 12:27Speaker 5: ten to seven, although I did think South Africa but
- 12:29Speaker 5: unlucky there probably not to have the advantage at halftime.
- 12:33Speaker 5: But gee, that's the African side is a real Dugonhaut
- 12:36Speaker 5: and New Zealand just not up to the up to
- 12:39Speaker 5: the task.
- 12:40Speaker 2: So actually they just like we turned the batteries off
- 12:42Speaker 2: and went to sleep.
- 12:43Speaker 5: Yet just dissolved and unusual for All Black's performance. And
- 12:47Speaker 5: they've got work to do especially, I mean just such
- 12:49Speaker 5: a you know, oscillating between that magnificent effort of Eden
- 12:52Speaker 5: Park and in going to that in Wellington is just
- 12:55Speaker 5: they've got to, I guess, address some consistency issues as
- 12:59Speaker 5: well as to how they are able to maintain that
- 13:01Speaker 5: level of motivation.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Do we have enough world class players in the team?
- 13:05Speaker 1: No, probably not.
- 13:06Speaker 5: There's not a great All Black team at the moment.
- 13:08Speaker 5: I mean it's fine players, fine players, they're no doubt
- 13:12Speaker 5: about it. But if you're looking at I guess sides
- 13:14Speaker 5: from nine to eighty seven or you know, twenty fifteen
- 13:18Speaker 5: times like that, when you know real peaks in all
- 13:20Speaker 5: Black history, it's not quite at that same level. I
- 13:22Speaker 5: mean just all those mistackles as well. I think was
- 13:24Speaker 5: it forty six in total?
- 13:26Speaker 2: I mean catching the ball.
- 13:28Speaker 5: I think someone suggested splicing that together as motivation for
- 13:31Speaker 5: the Wallabies and the Blitters like Cup. I mean, there's
- 13:34Speaker 5: the blitters like Cup on the line, here's the rext
- 13:36Speaker 5: Christian to race.
- 13:37Speaker 2: And now Warriors. I tuned turned over in half time
- 13:40Speaker 2: for the last five minutes. That was a great indied.
- 13:42Speaker 2: I was switching back and.
- 13:43Speaker 5: Forth too and just seeing where that was at. But
- 13:46Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, speaking of Dug and also you know
- 13:49Speaker 5: we talking about the spring box, but the Panthers as well.
- 13:52Speaker 5: They're really winding up here into a higher gear. You
- 13:55Speaker 5: suspect that having that what pretty bleak start to the season.
- 14:00Speaker 5: But Ivan Cleary always had a lot of faith in
- 14:02Speaker 5: him and in him and aside looking for that fifth
- 14:05Speaker 5: straight premiership and well they're odds on at the moment,
- 14:09Speaker 5: don't they working be way back into it. Albit, they
- 14:11Speaker 5: have to expend more energy than those other sides. We've
- 14:13Speaker 5: seen the Broncos go through overnight with a golden point
- 14:16Speaker 5: victory over the Raiders who were the top of the
- 14:18Speaker 5: table in the minor premiership, and they've gone through in
- 14:22Speaker 5: golden points, so that's a real for them.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Andrew. The tour of Spain, the cycling is more pro
- 14:28Speaker 2: breaking news.
- 14:29Speaker 5: Yeah, this morning, I just looked up at the screen
- 14:32Speaker 5: about an hour ago or so, Ryan, and yeah, the
- 14:35Speaker 5: pro Palestinian protesters have come. I mean it's been a
- 14:38Speaker 5: theme throughout the tour at various days, but this time
- 14:42Speaker 5: heading into Madrid, I think about fifty seven ks ago
- 14:45Speaker 5: and they've just surged into the main sort of boulevards
- 14:49Speaker 5: and the streets there of Madrid and it's completely ended.
- 14:53Speaker 2: The race.
- 14:53Speaker 5: Has been no presentation, ceremonies, and yeah, they've just I
- 14:56Speaker 5: think the honest with Gore will be announced as the
- 14:59Speaker 5: winner of roy. I think he was leading by a
- 15:00Speaker 5: minute sixteen, but it just ended the race as of
- 15:04Speaker 5: that moment, and I think just having looked at the
- 15:07Speaker 5: screensy it looks like police and protesters combating each other
- 15:11Speaker 5: as we speak.
- 15:11Speaker 2: So yeah, it's lovely good Andrew, thank you for that
- 15:14Speaker 2: Andrew Ordison sport. It is five twenty five on your
- 15:17Speaker 2: Monday morning. I just think some things that sport is
- 15:19Speaker 2: meant to bring people together and create joy and peace
- 15:23Speaker 2: and harmony in the world. And when you get in
- 15:25Speaker 2: the way of that, what is left to enjoy in life?
- 15:28Speaker 2: News Talk s VB the early.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Edition full the Show podcast on iHeartRadio, Power by News.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Talks EBB, News TALKSB. It is five twenty seven on
- 15:38Speaker 2: your Monday morning. The punters will love this new Major
- 15:40Speaker 2: Events Fund seventy million. It's new and old money. Infrastructure,
- 15:44Speaker 2: cycle way money ten million for regional tourism. The showstopper though,
- 15:49Speaker 2: is there's forty million bucks for significant high impact events
- 15:53Speaker 2: for New Zealand. We had the PM and the Minister
- 15:56Speaker 2: out yesterday. While they're saying these things are money makers.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Hospital does well, Tourism operators do well, retail does well.
- 16:03Speaker 2: They call it a bonanza. But if you're a fan
- 16:06Speaker 2: of sailing, if you like the America's Cup, you might
- 16:08Speaker 2: be scratching your head. Remember it was only five months
- 16:11Speaker 2: ago we had the PM saying no thank you to
- 16:14Speaker 2: backing the Cup. Why well, I went back and looked
- 16:17Speaker 2: at the reasons to see specifically, we're in a financial mess,
- 16:21Speaker 2: a fiscal mess. We need to invest in proper infrastructure
- 16:24Speaker 2: like hospitals and roads. He said. We need to be
- 16:28Speaker 2: quote more responsible with taxpayers money, and now we have
- 16:32Speaker 2: new money for a Pearl Jam concert. To be fair,
- 16:35Speaker 2: the sums involved here are important. The Cup would have
- 16:38Speaker 2: cost somewhere between forty and seventy million dollars on its own,
- 16:41Speaker 2: depending on who you ask. This entire fund the bit
- 16:45Speaker 2: for major events is forty million total. But if you
- 16:49Speaker 2: follow the reasoning and ask yourself the basic question is
- 16:53Speaker 2: the least demand for hospital or roading infrastructure now than
- 16:56Speaker 2: there was five months ago? You'd be right to feel
- 16:58Speaker 2: a bit confused by all of this. Either the Cup
- 17:01Speaker 2: was a crap investment or these investments more generally are
- 17:04Speaker 2: simply not a priority. Ban would be twenty nine minutes
- 17:09Speaker 2: after five Ryan government preaching to all and sundry there
- 17:12Speaker 2: is no money yet handing out millions for entertainment. This
- 17:16Speaker 2: person talking specifically about Nelson Hospital and in Dunedin too
- 17:21Speaker 2: good points. Priority is all wrong for the government, says
- 17:24Speaker 2: this text. It news Talk said b will get to
- 17:26Speaker 2: the UK and Europe after news.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Get ahead of the headlines on an early edition with
- 17:41Speaker 1: Ryan Bridge and one roof Love where you Live News
- 17:45Speaker 1: Talks at b.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Thank you, Good morning, Welcome there, Monday. It is twenty
- 17:51Speaker 2: four minutes away from six. We'll get to Nick Sultana
- 17:54Speaker 2: from Eden Park on the government's new Major Events fund. Shortly.
- 17:57Speaker 2: We're also going to head to Gavin gray Are UK
- 17:59Speaker 2: Europe correspond the NATO boss Rutters hold a press conference
- 18:02Speaker 2: and Putin's just basically been he's, you know, throwing the
- 18:06Speaker 2: drones into poland flying them over Polish airspace. By the way,
- 18:10Speaker 2: those drones from last week weren't actually loaded. They didn't
- 18:13Speaker 2: have any explosives, any ammunition on board at all. They
- 18:16Speaker 2: were all basically dugged drones. So Putin's they reckon, just
- 18:21Speaker 2: testing NATO airspace, and he's done it again over the
- 18:24Speaker 2: weekend with Romania. So he's just popping in with some
- 18:28Speaker 2: drones into the NATO airspace saying, oh, I wonder what
- 18:31Speaker 2: reaction I'll get. And they're not loaded, there's no ammunition,
- 18:34Speaker 2: so just testing the waters. And interestingly, of the nineteen
- 18:38Speaker 2: drones that flew into Polish airspace last week, only three
- 18:42Speaker 2: or four of them were actually shot down. So if
- 18:45Speaker 2: you are putin and you're having a crack, and you're
- 18:47Speaker 2: testing the waters and you're dipping your toe in the
- 18:50Speaker 2: water and seeing where the boundaries are. It's not a
- 18:52Speaker 2: great hit rate and responses it. NATO now scrambling some jets,
- 18:57Speaker 2: you know, more deployed to the eastern flank all that stuff.
- 19:01Speaker 2: But you'd have to say if that was a test,
- 19:03Speaker 2: NATO at this point probably has failed. Twenty three away.
- 19:06Speaker 1: From six Graham Bridge.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Did you are reporters around the country, Calum Proctor Underneeda
- 19:11Speaker 2: this morning, Calm, good morning, morning, Right, a bit of
- 19:13Speaker 2: secrecy around this bird sanctuary in Tiano. What's going on?
- 19:18Speaker 8: Yeah, Look, it's much loved by the local community. The
- 19:21Speaker 8: sanctuary and its future is unsure, Ryan, since Doc revealed
- 19:25Speaker 8: it was looking at rehoming some of the native birds there,
- 19:28Speaker 8: also reducing ours at the sanctuary and redirecting DOC resources elsewhere.
- 19:34Speaker 8: It's reported that Doc has met with the chair of
- 19:37Speaker 8: the Field and Community Board, neither side though confirming what
- 19:40Speaker 8: comes next for the sanctuary, Doc says it was a
- 19:43Speaker 8: positive discussion. They voiced their concerns and the challenges being faced.
- 19:47Speaker 8: The board says thus satisfied that DOC is considering.
- 19:50Speaker 2: All of their options. All right, how's your weather fine
- 19:53Speaker 2: for most of today?
- 19:54Speaker 8: But chooers this evening possibly heavy gusty norwester eighteen the
- 19:57Speaker 8: high today, cheers Colum.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Clears in christ Church. Good morning of tu and fro
- 20:02Speaker 2: over the water quality in Selwyn.
- 20:04Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 20:05Speaker 9: This is a Local Democracy report which has looked at
- 20:07Speaker 9: a new pilot study testing eighteen private wells in Selwyn.
- 20:11Speaker 9: Almost half of them had night rate levels above safe
- 20:15Speaker 9: drinking standards. Of course, night rate in water has the
- 20:18Speaker 9: potential to cause blue baby syndrome, but there's also growing
- 20:22Speaker 9: evidence around its link to bowel cancer. Now, incumbent regional
- 20:27Speaker 9: counselors Ian Mackenzie and John Sunknell say the workers underway
- 20:31Speaker 9: to turn the tide on the contamination, but they do
- 20:34Speaker 9: say these improvements will take some time. But a fellow
- 20:37Speaker 9: ECAN counselor candidate, Peter Trolov, says the situation is simply
- 20:42Speaker 9: a crisis. He reckons hardly a stream in Selwyn would
- 20:46Speaker 9: be under acceptable levels.
- 20:48Speaker 2: How's your weather clear?
- 20:49Speaker 9: But frosty to start otherwise, mainly find before some high
- 20:52Speaker 9: cloud develops toward evening northwesterlies and a high of twenty.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Did I hear you got a special award the other day. Clear,
- 20:59Speaker 2: I'll stop. What was it? Come on, don't be shy.
- 21:02Speaker 9: Well, it's a very christ Church thing, isn't it to
- 21:04Speaker 9: talk about what school you went to? But I did
- 21:06Speaker 9: go to Saint Margaret's and I'm officially the old girl
- 21:09Speaker 9: recipient of this year's arts award.
- 21:11Speaker 10: So thanks Saint Margaret's.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Hey, congratulations, Clear, very cool. Thank you. Max is in Wellington. Hey, Max,
- 21:17Speaker 2: good morning. What have you ever won? Nothing? Andrew Little's
- 21:20Speaker 2: gonna win the Miral race.
- 21:21Speaker 11: Though, right, Yeah, it's really the type of lead you
- 21:23Speaker 11: can only stuff up from here. And Andrew Little's never
- 21:26Speaker 11: really been particularly gaff prone, boring safe. I think it's
- 21:29Speaker 11: fair to say he is the capital's mayor in waiting.
- 21:32Speaker 11: A Q and A poll Andrew Little on fifty eight
- 21:35Speaker 11: percent of first preference votes. Ray Chung next best on sixteen.
- 21:40Speaker 11: Businessman Carti from Baker ten Iron Calvit six A little,
- 21:43Speaker 11: of course, says he's taking nothing for granted, but I
- 21:45Speaker 11: think he can. Also making the news. Over the weekend,
- 21:48Speaker 11: a social media post using some pretty offensive language posted
- 21:53Speaker 11: by campaign group A Better Wellington made its way online.
- 21:56Speaker 11: They're affiliated with Ray Chung. I shan't repeat the language,
- 21:59Speaker 11: but you get all the buzzwords alongside socialist, communist, trans
- 22:04Speaker 11: and others that I shouldn't say. They may be getting
- 22:07Speaker 11: a little desperate. It's not been the most inspiring race,
- 22:09Speaker 11: and I fear turnout may suffer because of it.
- 22:12Speaker 2: But it will be interesting to.
- 22:13Speaker 11: See how the council ends up being made up.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that post was form nuts, wasn't it. How is
- 22:18Speaker 2: your weather.
- 22:19Speaker 11: Max fine today with northerly seventeen the high.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Brilliant, Thank you Neva and Auckland, Hey Neva, good morning.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Apartment demand for apartments growing, that's right.
- 22:28Speaker 12: So research was carried out. This was by commercial real
- 22:32Speaker 12: estate company CBRE, and they looked at the demand at
- 22:35Speaker 12: two price points. This was one point six million and
- 22:38Speaker 12: six hundred thousand. Now what they've found was that demand
- 22:41Speaker 12: at the upper price point greatest in Remy era, then
- 22:45Speaker 12: in ranking order mount Edens and Hellier's Takapuna, Ebsen, Parnell
- 22:49Speaker 12: and Milford.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Demand at the.
- 22:51Speaker 12: Lower price point is greatest in you know, those centrally
- 22:54Speaker 12: located parts of themiss and desirable suburbs and also in
- 23:00Speaker 12: suburbs with older singles.
- 23:01Speaker 2: So do you have it because as you get older,
- 23:05Speaker 2: you love one might pass away and you just need
- 23:07Speaker 2: a you know, your apartment, your apartment.
- 23:13Speaker 11: That's right.
- 23:15Speaker 2: When you went to school, yes, did you how many
- 23:17Speaker 2: time ago? How many sick days would you? Could you
- 23:19Speaker 2: count on a hand how many you'd have?
- 23:21Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 23:22Speaker 12: I didn't take many sick days at all. I was
- 23:24Speaker 12: pretty good. Actually I loved going to school and didn't
- 23:27Speaker 12: learn very much, but I had lots of friends.
- 23:30Speaker 2: But the thing is, nowadays, there was we had a
- 23:32Speaker 2: principle on saying like twenty thirty percent of the kids
- 23:34Speaker 2: are off for justified reasons like sickness. I'm like, how
- 23:37Speaker 2: many kids can there be? Second a day?
- 23:39Speaker 1: That's right?
- 23:40Speaker 12: No, I can't believe it. I mean, was it the
- 23:42Speaker 12: resilience factor?
- 23:43Speaker 5: Is it?
- 23:45Speaker 2: Thresholds?
- 23:46Speaker 12: But Laara, but you see, I didn't bunk off either,
- 23:48Speaker 12: you know, I love you know I didn't you know
- 23:50Speaker 12: how people kids would and then that wag, I didn't
- 23:54Speaker 12: mind you of a cargol? Where would you go to?
- 23:56Speaker 12: I had a big town center was.
- 23:58Speaker 2: The thing that was happening. That's right. How'd sound weather today? Fine?
- 24:01Speaker 12: Spells isolated showers? Seventeen is a high.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Thanks nevare loads of texts from you on this one. Ryan,
- 24:07Speaker 2: My son got sent home from school last week twice.
- 24:10Speaker 2: The school said that he was contagious. I took him
- 24:12Speaker 2: to the doctors. The doctor said it was just an
- 24:14Speaker 2: allergy cough. And when I took him back to the
- 24:15Speaker 2: school with the doctor's note, they argued with me. Ryan.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Since COVID, our kids desire to go to school has changed.
- 24:21Speaker 2: We battle them a small sniffle and they don't want
- 24:24Speaker 2: to go to school. Not attending school has become now
- 24:27Speaker 2: very acceptable. You don't miss much, it seems anyway. I
- 24:32Speaker 2: actually don't think it matters what they're learning. It well,
- 24:34Speaker 2: it doesn't matter what they're learning at school, but you
- 24:36Speaker 2: need to be there because what you're teaching them is
- 24:39Speaker 2: eight hours at something away from home, with doing something
- 24:44Speaker 2: you don't particularly enjoy doing. That's what it teaches you
- 24:48Speaker 2: more than anything. Seventeen away from six News talks there

- 26:04Speaker 2: Sir saying the six News Talk to itb twenty six
- 26:06Speaker 2: police officers injured one hundred and fifty thousand protesters. This
- 26:09Speaker 2: is in central London and nationalists protests and Gavin Gray's
- 26:12Speaker 2: our UK europe correspondent with US this morning. Gavin, So
- 26:16Speaker 2: it all got a bit heated, did it?
- 26:19Speaker 6: Yes, Ryan, it did. I have to say, I think
- 26:21Speaker 6: the figures of one hundred and fifty thousand were much
- 26:24Speaker 6: much higher than well the organizers expected, and certainly the
- 26:27Speaker 6: police too. There was a stand up to racism protest.
- 26:31Speaker 6: In other words, the other side of this argument. Also
- 26:34Speaker 6: on the day some five thousand people though there and
- 26:37Speaker 6: of course fives one hundred and fifty thousand. The police
- 26:40Speaker 6: had to separate them and it was while trying to
- 26:42Speaker 6: separate them that some violence did break out. At one
- 26:45Speaker 6: point a glass bottle being thrown appeared to smash into
- 26:48Speaker 6: a horse that came from we believe the far right section.
- 26:52Speaker 6: But the police are saying they had a number of injuries.
- 26:56Speaker 6: Four were quite seriously injured. Officers suffered broken teeth, concussion,
- 27:00Speaker 6: a prolapsed disc, a head injury, a possible broken nose,
- 27:03Speaker 6: and yeah, twenty four people arrested. Police are saying they're
- 27:07Speaker 6: now going through the camera footage, the digital footage of
- 27:11Speaker 6: the incidents in order to try and identify some of
- 27:15Speaker 6: those as well. And I think big question marks as
- 27:18Speaker 6: well over the language used by Elon Musk, the tech
- 27:21Speaker 6: billionaire was on video link transmitted on huge screens to
- 27:26Speaker 6: the people there, and some of the language he used
- 27:29Speaker 6: will seem, I think to have emboldened those on the
- 27:32Speaker 6: far right and well the right as well by saying
- 27:35Speaker 6: you've got to get rid of this government. You've got
- 27:37Speaker 6: to do it soon. This is effectively a war.
- 27:41Speaker 2: And I see starmers come out and condemn the violence,
- 27:44Speaker 2: but see everyone's entitled to the Is he in real trouble?
- 27:47Speaker 2: I was reading a piece in The Guardian at the
- 27:48Speaker 2: weekend about you know, he's looking weak, he's lost Rainer,
- 27:51Speaker 2: you know, with the Lord Mendelssohn business. Is this going
- 27:54Speaker 2: to come to a heat at some point?
- 27:57Speaker 6: Well that's what he's probably trying to avert for the
- 27:59Speaker 6: next few days. With a state visit by Donald Trump,
- 28:03Speaker 6: that's bound to change the headlines for him, which will
- 28:05Speaker 6: help you know you're in trouble right where it's not
- 28:08Speaker 6: just the opponents of your political party who are arguing
- 28:11Speaker 6: for you to go. There are murmurings within his own
- 28:14Speaker 6: political party that he isn't coping and he's got to go.
- 28:19Speaker 6: And then I think you really do know you're in
- 28:21Speaker 6: political trouble.
- 28:21Speaker 1: So yeah, this is very serious for Devin.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Thank you. Kevin Gray are UK europe correspondent. Yeah, it's
- 28:26Speaker 2: interesting because your housing spokesperson or your housing minister, I
- 28:32Speaker 2: should say she didn't pay your duties, that she should
- 28:34Speaker 2: have paid on the house that she's sold in board
- 28:36Speaker 2: another one. I mean, come on, that's basic. And then
- 28:39Speaker 2: Lord Mandelson overnight they came out and said, oh, well
- 28:42Speaker 2: we knew he had a relationship with Epstein, but we
- 28:44Speaker 2: just didn't think it was going to be that big
- 28:46Speaker 2: of a deal. Ten to six bridge. So the government
- 28:51Speaker 2: seventy million dollars supercharged. The events and tourism funded includes
- 28:55Speaker 2: forty million that's ring fenced to lure the likes of
- 28:58Speaker 2: Taylor Swift and Coldplay and Pearl Jams. From twenty twenty six.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Nixt Saortner is Eden Park CEO to react, Nick, good.
- 29:04Speaker 13: Morning, good morning, Ryan, Thanks for your time.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Could you put that money into context? How does it
- 29:09Speaker 2: compare with past funds and our competitors.
- 29:14Speaker 13: Well, we welcome the PM's announcement yesterday. This is great
- 29:17Speaker 13: news for business. Historically, music content hasn't been available to
- 29:21Speaker 13: attract funding from central government, so it hasn't been available
- 29:26Speaker 13: for us to go out and secure content. Globally, it's
- 29:30Speaker 13: been focused more on the sports and major event content
- 29:33Speaker 13: like World Cup. So this is a paradigm shift for us.
- 29:36Speaker 13: It makes us competitive with the East Coast of Australia.
- 29:39Speaker 13: Similar funds are available in the likes of Britain and
- 29:41Speaker 13: Sydney and Melbourne, so and we Eden Park is uniquely
- 29:45Speaker 13: positioned now capitalize on this opportunity.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Nick, who's on your wish list?
- 29:50Speaker 13: Well, for me personally, any concert that we've seen at
- 29:53Speaker 13: Eden Park has been magnificent. When you look at Pink Billy, Joel, Coldplay,
- 29:57Speaker 13: Guns and Roses, they've all been phenomenal and already the
- 30:01Speaker 13: local businesses are pumped, as you can imagine after COVID
- 30:05Speaker 13: there has been a challenge for the hospitality sector. Only
- 30:08Speaker 13: two weekends ago, you look at what we're able to
- 30:11Speaker 13: deliver with the likes of the sold out all Black
- 30:13Speaker 13: tests at the Fortress. Some of the local businesses said
- 30:16Speaker 13: it was their biggest date ever in terms of hospitality spend.
- 30:20Speaker 13: So this is a great announcement. Since the Rugby World
- 30:23Speaker 13: Cup at Eden Park, we've delivered over a billion dollars
- 30:26Speaker 13: of gendp benefit of Auckland and yeah, we're very excited
- 30:30Speaker 13: with the announcement.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Net can we be realistic? And just a really quick
- 30:32Speaker 2: question but if we had this fund, would it have
- 30:35Speaker 2: been enough to get the lights of Pearl Jam and
- 30:37Speaker 2: Taylor Swift?
- 30:38Speaker 13: Well, Pearl Jams previously come the likes of Taylor Swift.
- 30:42Speaker 13: It's a competitive market, but now we are a genuine
- 30:46Speaker 13: player against the East Coast of Australia. So promoters now
- 30:49Speaker 13: know and I can assure you I was in contact
- 30:51Speaker 13: with a number of promoters last night making them aware
- 30:54Speaker 13: that this is available and saying get your application in.
- 30:57Speaker 13: Tell us what you want. We want a city that
- 30:59Speaker 13: people want to live, stay, playing, work and artists can
- 31:02Speaker 13: benefit now from this fund.
- 31:04Speaker 2: You've got any names you want to drop.
- 31:07Speaker 13: A well, how good would it be if Spice Girls reformed?
- 31:12Speaker 2: Next Morner, Eden Park's CEO. That might be You'd need
- 31:17Speaker 2: a lot more than seventy million dollars to get those
- 31:19Speaker 2: far back together. Eight minutes away from Sex News talks,
- 31:23Speaker 2: he be Marke next.
- 31:25Speaker 1: On your radio and online on iheard Radio Early Edition
- 31:29Speaker 1: with Ryan Bridge and one roof Love, where you Live,
- 31:33Speaker 1: News Talk SADB, News.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Talks, he be it is six minutes away from six
- 31:37Speaker 2: loads of text this morning on these strikes that are
- 31:39Speaker 2: happening this week, parents saying what the hell am I
- 31:41Speaker 2: going to do with my kids? Because it's across three days,
- 31:43Speaker 2: and if you've got kids wh are in different year levels,
- 31:45Speaker 2: then it means you could have to take two days
- 31:47Speaker 2: off work to look after them five to six. Now,
- 31:50Speaker 2: Mike's here morning, Mike.
- 31:51Speaker 10: To be fair, if you're eleven twelve and thirteen year
- 31:54Speaker 10: eleven two, are you taking days off to look after
- 31:56Speaker 10: a sixteen seventeen year old?
- 31:58Speaker 2: We shouldn't be because it's fourteen years. You can stay at
- 32:00Speaker 2: home right exactly. Now, I've got a problem with my car,
- 32:04Speaker 2: and I just wanted to get your advice because I
- 32:06Speaker 2: know this is what do you got? It's a station wagon?
- 32:10Speaker 2: Audi from What's wrong with the station wagon?
- 32:14Speaker 13: What?
- 32:14Speaker 2: I think? It looks quite sexy that anyway, if I
- 32:17Speaker 2: go into that, it's got a big back end. I've
- 32:19Speaker 2: got a dog. Okay, So what's happened is I drove
- 32:23Speaker 2: over a road cone and it's buggered. There's a plastic
- 32:28Speaker 2: sort of cover that goes under your underneath your car.
- 32:31Speaker 2: It's like a guard. Now. The mechanic told me, he's like,
- 32:34Speaker 2: don't worry about getting the new one of those. It's
- 32:36Speaker 2: six hundred dollars. And I was off the mind.
- 32:39Speaker 10: No, you regret it because something you will get flipped
- 32:42Speaker 10: up into the car. It protects the underneath of the car.
- 32:45Speaker 10: And it's also good for aerodynamics, apart from anything else.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Because he said, well, the cars in the sixties didn't
- 32:50Speaker 2: have them. They were fine.
- 32:51Speaker 10: No, that's correct, but we didn't drive it the same way.
- 32:54Speaker 10: You might drive the same way we did in the
- 32:55Speaker 10: sixties for six hundred dollars. I'm surprised that it's that cheap,
- 32:59Speaker 10: to be frank, most car parts. You can't touch a
- 33:01Speaker 10: car part for a couple of thousand dollars. Six hundred dollars.
- 33:03Speaker 10: I get it all day long. So yeah, well next time, Well,
- 33:07Speaker 10: what happens when you put a rock up under it?
- 33:08Speaker 10: What's happened next time? You drive over another road cone
- 33:11Speaker 10: and it goes up and smacks your somep and the
