- 0:20Speaker 2: Picture Association of America.
- 0:22Speaker 3: It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:27Speaker 4: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:02Speaker 5: I need a volunteer from the audience. Someone not afraid
- 1:06Speaker 5: of death. What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm
- 1:18Speaker 5: Brian and this week I'm joined by our special guest co-host,
- 1:21Speaker 5: comedian Yedoya Travis.
- 1:23Speaker 6: Originally from Atlanta, he's really.
- 1:24Speaker 5: Been making a name for himself in the comedy world
- 1:26Speaker 5: as he's relocated to Los Angeles, and more recently, New York.
- 1:30Speaker 5: And amongst all his other accomplishments, soon he'll be featured
- 1:33Speaker 5: on the fourth season of Coming to the Stage on Hulu.
- 1:36Speaker 5: Plus several other projects he's got in the works that
- 1:38Speaker 5: we'll get to later in the show.
- 1:40Speaker 6: But for now, we'll be hanging out together at.
- 1:42Speaker 5: Gallery K, one of our favorite places to record as
- 1:45Speaker 5: of late.
- 1:45Speaker 6: And though it is.
- 1:46Speaker 5: December, it was not too cold, so we decided to
- 1:48Speaker 5: sit out on the back deck and record. Just so
- 1:51Speaker 5: you know, if you hear a dog barking or a
- 1:52Speaker 5: plane fly overhead, that's why. Because you'll join us as
- 1:55Speaker 5: we sit outside, relaxing, drinking our coffee, and talking about comedy, movies,
- 2:01Speaker 5: and magic. So let's get to it.
- 2:13Speaker 6: Welcome to the show.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Thank you, man. Thanks for having me.
- 2:16Speaker 5: And I guess I wanted to, usually with any performers,
- 2:20Speaker 5: I usually try to start off and kind of give
- 2:22Speaker 5: people an intro to them.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Yeah, of course.
- 2:24Speaker 5: And then just kind of how they ended up where
- 2:26Speaker 5: they are in the entertainment industry one way or the other.
- 2:31Speaker 5: I guess you're definitely in the comedy scene. Did that
- 2:35Speaker 5: start off that way? Was it something you... As a kid,
- 2:39Speaker 5: were you interested in that end of it?
- 2:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I think most of my life was being afraid
- 2:47Speaker 1: to admit to myself that I wanted to do something
- 2:49Speaker 1: so stupid. I think that's... I went through so many
- 2:56Speaker 1: different avenues before I finally was like, if you want
- 2:58Speaker 1: to do stand-up, just do stand-up. I did theater in
- 3:02Speaker 1: high school. I did choir in high school and college.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I did.
- 3:08Speaker 1: I tried to write poetry for a little bit. I've
- 3:11Speaker 1: played that game.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 3:14Speaker 6: Let's not recite those at this point.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:17Speaker 6: But I think you.
- 3:18Speaker 5: Can kind of, again, what I've seen of your comedy
- 3:21Speaker 5: is a little different than what other people do, and
- 3:24Speaker 5: I think I respond to it better because of that,
- 3:26Speaker 5: but I think it does have a little more theatrical
- 3:29Speaker 5: into it than just like set up in bits and,
- 3:33Speaker 5: you know, whatever. I think it's got a little more like,
- 3:35Speaker 5: almost monologue style to it.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I hope so. I always, because I sort of like
- 3:43Speaker 1: all angles of joke writing. So I have a lot
- 3:46Speaker 1: of dumb one-liners that I try to squeeze into what
- 3:50Speaker 1: feels like a monologue, I guess.
- 3:52Speaker 5: I think that's part of it. I think it's sort
- 3:54Speaker 5: of just finding your own rhythm. And I've discussed that
- 3:57Speaker 5: on the comedy ones before. I was like, you can
- 4:00Speaker 5: tell when somebody's like still finding their footing and like,
- 4:04Speaker 5: awkwardly just kind of hammering in these things that they've
- 4:07Speaker 5: obviously pre-written versus somebody that just gets up there and
- 4:10Speaker 5: it's just like.
- 4:11Speaker 1: It flows. It's ridiculous. I feel like I'm just getting
- 4:15Speaker 1: to that point. It's really just that I've lived in
- 4:21Speaker 1: LA and New York for the past two years and
- 4:24Speaker 1: you do so many three-minute sets that you forget how
- 4:27Speaker 1: to do longer ones.
- 4:29Speaker 5: Yeah, it changes things. Well, that is one I was
- 4:32Speaker 5: going to ask because everybody... I've talked to in comedy
- 4:35Speaker 5: seems like that's a huge part of it is at
- 4:38Speaker 5: some point, once you've decided that's what I'm going to do,
- 4:40Speaker 5: it's time to make the move.
- 4:42Speaker 6: So it's usually one of three.
- 4:43Speaker 5: If you're don't want to go to either coast, you
- 4:45Speaker 5: hit Chicago or it's New York or LA, which are
- 4:48Speaker 5: kind of very different angles and approaches to comedy. So
- 4:53Speaker 5: I guess what led you to make that decision first off?
- 4:56Speaker 5: And then I guess, what's it like where you ended up?
- 5:00Speaker 1: Well, I think I was kind of, I don't want
- 5:04Speaker 1: to say lucky because it's not really luck, but after
- 5:08Speaker 1: I graduated college, I was two years into stand-up, and
- 5:11Speaker 1: I told my mom I wanted to visit L.A. Yeah.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Because she wanted to give me a graduation present. She
- 5:18Speaker 1: was like, how about a trip to London? I was like,
- 5:20Speaker 1: I've been to London.
- 5:21Speaker 5: London.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Every Nigerian person has been to London. I was like,
- 5:27Speaker 1: send me to L.A. I can see what it's like
- 5:30Speaker 1: and decide if I want to move there someday. And
- 5:32Speaker 1: my mom starts, like, preparing like I'm moving. She's like, okay, yeah,
- 5:36Speaker 1: I'll give you a couple. Boxing up your shit.
- 5:38Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 5:38Speaker 5: Wait, wait, wait.
- 5:39Speaker 1: It's a couple weeks. I just finished. And so within, like,
- 5:45Speaker 1: a month, I was basically dropped in the middle of
- 5:49Speaker 1: Los Angeles. And I don't know if you know Wes
- 5:52Speaker 1: Van Horn, but he's a friend of mine. And he
- 5:55Speaker 1: just came and picked me up. And I stayed with
- 5:57Speaker 1: him for a few days. And I lived in L.A.
- 6:00Speaker 1: for a year and a half. Without ever having been there.
- 6:04Speaker 5: Immediately just started kind of working yourself into open mics
- 6:08Speaker 5: or like getting gigs or.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I kind of hit it too hard
- 6:12Speaker 1: when I got to LA. I didn't have the resources
- 6:19Speaker 1: to do what I was doing because I was going
- 6:21Speaker 1: out every single day. I didn't have a car for
- 6:24Speaker 1: the first four months, so I was taking trains like from...
- 6:28Speaker 1: Highland Park, down to Union Station, all the way up
- 6:31Speaker 1: to North Hollywood just to get to work and.
- 6:33Speaker 6: Shit like that. LA is known for its public transit system.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 6:36Speaker 6: They're so convenient.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Yeah, no, they're really good about that.
- 6:40Speaker 5: Nobody drives in LA. It's okay.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Yeah, no. Lobbyists have never gotten involved with that. I
- 6:47Speaker 1: don't know. LA was a weird situation. I had a
- 6:52Speaker 1: manager within a couple months of being there, but then
- 6:55Speaker 1: it was just like, Oh wait, you're not ready to
- 6:58Speaker 1: have a manager.
- 7:00Speaker 5: Well, I mean, that is, again, I think that's why
- 7:02Speaker 5: you end up in one of those three cities. Those
- 7:04Speaker 5: are the few cities I feel like you, if you
- 7:07Speaker 5: want to, or if you need to just in that process, you.
- 7:10Speaker 6: Can go do it every night.
- 7:11Speaker 5: Whereas, you know, here you're lucky if you hit a
- 7:14Speaker 5: good show once a week, maybe, you know? So it's
- 7:16Speaker 5: like the guys that are living in smaller places, like
- 7:19Speaker 5: there's only so much practice you can get. So yeah,
- 7:22Speaker 5: I guess it does kind of throw you into the
- 7:24Speaker 5: fire and, One.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Way or the other. Yeah, well, you sort of start
- 7:29Speaker 1: to realize how much power comedy clubs have to the
- 7:31Speaker 1: point where if one does not exist in a city,
- 7:34Speaker 1: there's no comedy scene. It's crazy. I mean, if you
- 7:39Speaker 1: want to do comedy, you do house shows. There's so
- 7:42Speaker 1: many avenues.
- 7:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, we've got like one sort of place here.
- 7:48Speaker 5: And then another one came and went since then. So, yeah,
- 7:52Speaker 5: now it's funny how many show up.
- 7:54Speaker 6: And like, you know, the guys at Gallery K have
- 7:55Speaker 6: been doing really great at putting stuff together.
- 7:57Speaker 5: But there's a handful of other that are just like
- 8:00Speaker 5: restaurants and the back room in a bar and a
- 8:03Speaker 5: lot of coffee shops.
- 8:04Speaker 6: And it's just kind of like.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Well, you know, there are plenty of comedy clubs that
- 8:08Speaker 1: should just be restaurants. Yeah.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Again, I think it's almost a better vibe sometimes. Comedy clubs,
- 8:15Speaker 5: especially the bigger and more corporate they get. It's a
- 8:19Speaker 5: weird scenario. Everyone feels like cattle. The customers definitely, even
- 8:25Speaker 5: the comics, it's just like it's so mechanical at some point.
- 8:29Speaker 1: It's kind of weird. When it gets to be such
- 8:31Speaker 1: a machine where it's like, we do comedy here. Do we?
- 8:35Speaker 1: There are the days when it's like, what are you doing?
- 8:37Speaker 1: Could you guys do something else, please?
- 8:39Speaker 6: You guys sell chicken fingers, really.
- 8:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:41Speaker 6: Overpriced drinks and chicken fingers, truthfully.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I go to some comedy clubs. I'm like, the
- 8:46Speaker 1: food here is so fucking good. Why do you need
- 8:49Speaker 1: this shit? You don't need me. I'm going home.
- 8:52Speaker 6: I take these chicken fingers, but then I'm going home.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. I don't know. Part of me doesn't think
- 8:58Speaker 1: comedy is a good thing.
- 9:01Speaker 6: As a whole, or just as a career venture?
- 9:05Speaker 1: I think... being funny is stupid i think making jokes
- 9:10Speaker 1: is stupid honestly when i see a child cry i'm
- 9:13Speaker 1: like you gotta nip that in the bud what a
- 9:16Speaker 1: child laugh i stopped listening to what i was saying
- 9:19Speaker 1: for a second.
- 9:21Speaker 5: Well i feel like the performance end of it like
- 9:24Speaker 5: i always respond to people that are just sort of
- 9:26Speaker 5: creative or artistic or whatever so i like i get
- 9:29Speaker 5: the performance end of it There are some very creative
- 9:32Speaker 5: types that are also funny.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:34Speaker 5: But then, yeah, the like trying to do it as
- 9:36Speaker 5: a career is like its own weird little thing that
- 9:39Speaker 5: you have to do.
- 9:41Speaker 6: You know better than most.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Well, I don't. You have to figure out. I honestly don't.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I mean, to put it in perspective, I have had
- 9:48Speaker 1: management for two years now and I'm not doing anything.
- 9:51Speaker 1: I'm not doing shit.
- 9:52Speaker 6: Well, wait, I'm almost in the same boat then.
- 9:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:55Speaker 6: I'm not doing anything.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, no, we're the same guy. on paper. There
- 10:00Speaker 1: you go. A billion years from now, people are going
- 10:03Speaker 1: to look at the two of us and be like,
- 10:04Speaker 1: what's the difference?
- 10:05Speaker 5: We'll all be gone.
- 10:06Speaker 1: What difference does it make?
- 10:07Speaker 5: All we have are our geeky things that we hold
- 10:10Speaker 5: on to.
- 10:10Speaker 6: So, we were trying to pin that down earlier.
- 10:14Speaker 5: What also led you into your geeky interests?
- 10:17Speaker 7: Oh, man. I.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I watched three channels growing up. It was Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon,
- 10:27Speaker 1: and Comedy Central.
- 10:28Speaker 5: Those are all important steps in a child's development.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Pretty much. I remember staying up till midnight to watch
- 10:37Speaker 1: Toonami all night.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Nice.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I stayed up to watch the first night of Adult
- 10:44Speaker 1: Swim ever.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Wow.
- 10:47Speaker 6: And now they sort of run their own little industry.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Run their own little town with no women in it.
- 10:55Speaker 1: It's great.
- 10:56Speaker 5: They take it a little back.
- 10:57Speaker 6: Rightfully so, I suppose.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:01Speaker 1: I don't know, man. Yeah.
- 11:02Speaker 5: One of mine, and I just remembered it because it
- 11:05Speaker 5: was recently Thanksgiving and they were running the, I remember
- 11:09Speaker 5: that first like year that I ended up with cable
- 11:12Speaker 5: and had comedy central and they just had picked up
- 11:15Speaker 5: mystery science theater.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:17Speaker 6: And it was like a late night thing. Like it
- 11:19Speaker 6: was just like, and.
- 11:20Speaker 5: It was such a weird little communal, but we were
- 11:24Speaker 5: all in our own little home. Again, it was before
- 11:25Speaker 5: the internet really had taken hold. And like, That was
- 11:28Speaker 5: the way all the geeks, like we were all sitting
- 11:30Speaker 5: there in front of our TV at the same time
- 11:32Speaker 5: and this like ridiculously funny thing was going on. So yeah,
- 11:35Speaker 5: I remember attaching to that pretty early on and kind
- 11:38Speaker 5: of that same thing of like, wow, I can't believe
- 11:41Speaker 5: I found this, and I can't believe some network's putting
- 11:42Speaker 5: this on, even if it's a low-end version.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Especially then.
- 11:45Speaker 5: They were pretty low-rent back then.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Yeah, well, they're redoing it now.
- 11:49Speaker 6: It's coming back now.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I never actually got into it when it was
- 11:54Speaker 1: on the air. Sorry, Jonah Ray. That guy.
- 11:58Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 11:59Speaker 6: I have high hopes for it.
- 12:00Speaker 5: Again, there's a lot of people giving him shit now
- 12:02Speaker 5: just because, you know, nobody likes new things.
- 12:05Speaker 6: Geeks fear change.
- 12:06Speaker 5: But that's such a great cast. Jonah aside, like, the
- 12:10Speaker 5: rest of that cast is amazing.
- 12:12Speaker 1: I mean, Jonah's amazing.
- 12:13Speaker 6: And Jonah loves it.
- 12:14Speaker 5: That's the thing. I'm like, it'd be different if it
- 12:16Speaker 5: was just somebody that got shoved into it, but... He
- 12:18Speaker 5: grew up watching it, too.
- 12:19Speaker 6: Like, he is one of the fans.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Exactly. He's one of those people. Yeah. Oh, there's real passion.
- 12:24Speaker 5: Yeah. Which is kind of what you need to make
- 12:26Speaker 5: something like that work.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 12:28Speaker 5: It's so geeky. Like, you kind of need that much,
- 12:31Speaker 5: you know. Yeah.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I feel like doing a remake of anything now. You
- 12:35Speaker 1: have to be such a brave person.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Yeah. Well, and you see so many that are sort
- 12:39Speaker 5: of phoned in. Any of the, again, as we'll get
- 12:42Speaker 5: into movies, there's so many where they'll just brand something.
- 12:46Speaker 6: Like, here's a name. People have heard this before.
- 12:48Speaker 5: And then, again, it's the corporate thing where they're just like,
- 12:51Speaker 5: here's the stamp.
- 12:52Speaker 6: Now do whatever you want.
- 12:53Speaker 5: And it's a bunch of people who've never seen the
- 12:55Speaker 5: original or could care less about the original.
- 12:57Speaker 6: And it just kind of sucks.
- 12:59Speaker 5: It's different when you have somebody from the beginning that's
- 13:02Speaker 5: passionate about it.
- 13:03Speaker 1: And actually cares. Because you have to watch it. The
- 13:06Speaker 1: entire time you're growing up, even. To really get a
- 13:09Speaker 1: grasp of it. Because you can't just look at the
- 13:12Speaker 1: Wikipedia page.
- 13:13Speaker 5: One episode, you still are just like, who are these?
- 13:16Speaker 5: Why is that vacuum cleaner talking? Like, you're just like,
- 13:18Speaker 5: you know.
- 13:19Speaker 6: But, yeah, there's such running jokes there throughout.
- 13:22Speaker 5: Yeah, once you get into.
- 13:24Speaker 1: It, you're just like. Yeah, it's like Pee Wee's Playhouse
- 13:26Speaker 1: for nerds.
- 13:26Speaker 5: Oh, Lord.
- 13:27Speaker 7: Well, yeah.
- 13:28Speaker 1: As that was for nerds.
- 13:29Speaker 6: That was, yeah. A whole new generation of kids attached
- 13:32Speaker 6: to that.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. What a good movie that was, the new one.
- 13:36Speaker 5: Well, actually, was it the Netflix? Yes. Okay.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Yeah, with Joe Manganiello.
- 13:45Speaker 5: I love Big Adventure, but it's one of those I
- 13:48Speaker 5: love Pee Wee, and there's just too many things, and
- 13:50Speaker 5: I haven't gotten to it yet.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's a hard thing to justify keeping up with.
- 13:57Speaker 5: I've seen most of the episodes of The Playhouse. Not recently, but,
- 14:01Speaker 5: you know, I kept up with Pee Wee as best
- 14:03Speaker 5: I could.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I watched, last one I watched, maybe
- 14:08Speaker 1: Chaka Khan was on it? I forget. So it's a
- 14:12Speaker 1: current episode. Yeah.
- 14:14Speaker 5: Where is she at these days?
- 14:16Speaker 1: I don't know. She's just shocking and conning.
- 14:18Speaker 5: Still looks good, I'm sure.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. I remember in the 90s hearing Jay Anthony Brown
- 14:24Speaker 1: talk about her peach butt.
- 14:26Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:27Speaker 1: That's all you need, man.
- 14:33Speaker 7: Yeah. Yeah, dude. So there's magic in his mind Reflecting
- 14:44Speaker 7: in his.
- 14:47Speaker 4: Eyes It's that mystery that draws.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Me to you It's the.
- 14:54Speaker 5: Kind of voodoo's hard to find.
- 15:00Speaker 4: The little gypsy in his smile It's coming.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Here it comes. It's intermission time.
- 15:13Speaker 7: Time to visit our concession stand.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Abracadabra, I sit on his knee. Presto, change-o, and now
- 15:21Speaker 1: he is me.
- 15:23Speaker 7: Hocus pocus, we take her to bed. Magic is fun.

- 17:17Speaker 1: Shoot me.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Come on.
- 17:19Speaker 1: No, I can't shoot. Do it!
- 17:24Speaker 2: How'd you like that?
- 17:25Speaker 6: How'd you do it?
- 17:27Speaker 2: Magic.
- 17:29Speaker 3: I'll perform this feat in a manner never before seen
- 17:32Speaker 3: by yourselves or any other audience anywhere in the world.
- 17:37Speaker 7: The audience loved it.
- 17:40Speaker 1: This trick is top notch.
- 17:41Speaker 5: We need to celebrate.
- 17:49Speaker 1: A real magician tries to invent something new.
- 17:52Speaker 4: It's something that other magicians will scratch their heads over.
- 17:55Speaker 3: I suppose you have such a trick.
- 17:57Speaker 1: That's your thing?
- 17:57Speaker 2: It's the one they're gonna remember me for.
- 18:01Speaker 7: What happened?
- 18:02Speaker 3: It was the greatest magic trick I've ever seen.
- 18:09Speaker 2: I need to know how he does it.
- 18:12Speaker 3: He has no trick.
- 18:14Speaker 2: It's real.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Every great magic trick consists of three acts. The first
- 18:22Speaker 3: act is called the pledge. The magician shows you something ordinary,
- 18:27Speaker 3: but of course, it probably isn't. The second act is
- 18:32Speaker 3: called the turn.
- 18:34Speaker 1: He's obsessed with discovering your method.
- 18:35Speaker 3: The magician makes this ordinary something do something extraordinary. Now
- 18:41Speaker 3: you're looking for the secret, but you won't find it.
- 18:47Speaker 3: That's why there's a third act called The Prestige. This
- 18:52Speaker 3: is the part with the twists and turns, where lives
- 18:56Speaker 3: hang in the balance.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Joey, come on!
- 18:58Speaker 3: And you see something shocking you've never seen before. This
- 19:03Speaker 3: was built by a man who can actually do what
- 19:06Speaker 3: magicians pretend to do.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Real magic.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I know what you really are!
- 19:11Speaker 3: How does he do it?
- 19:13Speaker 1: You want the truth.
- 19:15Speaker 6: Nothing is impossible.
- 19:21Speaker 7: Oh, oh, oh, it's magic, you know. Never believe it's
- 19:29Speaker 7: not so. It's magic, you know. Never believe it's not so.
- 19:43Speaker 5: Alright, I guess we can get to the movie. Usually
- 19:46Speaker 5: I'll do a little intro here, so... Yeah, okay.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Let's see what you got.
- 19:51Speaker 6: This week's Sofa Theater feature is The Prestige.
- 19:54Speaker 5: The year is 2006. The director, Christopher Nolan. And I
- 19:59Speaker 5: just found out Google will tell you the description. You
- 20:01Speaker 5: want to do that? Because that's my favorite new thing.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Yeah, let's do that. I've watched this movie so many
- 20:06Speaker 1: times and still don't get it.
- 20:08Speaker 7: Thank you, Google.
- 20:09Speaker 1: That's my favorite thing is robot voices.
- 20:11Speaker 5: Oh, my God.
- 20:11Speaker 1: The thing I love about this movie is that it
- 20:13Speaker 1: is impossible for me to take it seriously.
- 20:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:37Speaker 1: And it's such a tragic movie.
- 20:39Speaker 5: Yeah, it takes itself very seriously, which I think comes
- 20:45Speaker 5: into play. So I guess we'll get back to that later.
- 20:47Speaker 6: I guess first we should say, spoiler alert, if you're
- 20:50Speaker 6: not familiar with this.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Which it's surprising. You've had 10 years to watch it. Well,
- 20:53Speaker 1: that's the thing.
- 20:54Speaker 5: It's surprising that this has already hit its 10-year anniversary.
- 20:57Speaker 5: But we're going to ruin the hell out of it.
- 20:58Speaker 5: So just go watch it. Come back to the show
- 21:00Speaker 5: after you've.
- 21:01Speaker 6: Finished watching it. You've been warned.
- 21:04Speaker 5: I think what I was going to start with was
- 21:06Speaker 5: the fact that I feel like this is also the
- 21:08Speaker 5: forgotten Christopher Nolan movie. Especially since he got popular. From
- 21:14Speaker 5: Batman Begins On, everything has been huge except the prestige.
- 21:20Speaker 5: Even when it came out.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Well, I'll ask most people and they'll be like, yeah,
- 21:25Speaker 1: I love that movie.
- 21:27Speaker 5: Do you remember that movie?
- 21:28Speaker 1: Where were you when Chris needed you?
- 21:31Speaker 6: Do you remember that movie?
- 21:32Speaker 5: Yeah, that's the one that has that one guy in it.
- 21:36Speaker 6: What was the.
- 21:37Speaker 5: Because that's the other thing I feel like it's known
- 21:39Speaker 5: for is it's one of those scenarios where it came
- 21:41Speaker 5: out the same year as another movie that's almost the same.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Yeah, The Magician. They came out in the same... What
- 21:47Speaker 1: was that?
- 21:47Speaker 5: The Illusionist?
- 21:48Speaker 1: Oh, The Illusionist.
- 21:49Speaker 5: Yeah, it was the Ed Norton.
- 21:51Speaker 1: That's the one I was like.
- 21:53Speaker 5: Even when over the years I've been like, now wait,
- 21:55Speaker 5: which one is the one that's got It was like.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Hugh Jackman's in one of them.
- 21:59Speaker 5: I know Christian Bale, but I couldn't even remember if
- 22:01Speaker 5: they were in the same or if they were in
- 22:03Speaker 5: dueling ones. So over the years, I think that's part
- 22:05Speaker 5: of the issue.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'm, I don't know if this is true,
- 22:08Speaker 1: but I've just invented a scenario where people separated into
- 22:11Speaker 1: camps or like there's a prestige camp and an illusionist camp.
- 22:14Speaker 5: I feel like at the time, like that year, because
- 22:16Speaker 5: it didn't get much love after that. So I feel
- 22:19Speaker 5: like that year, people were just like, well, I'm only
- 22:21Speaker 5: going to see one.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Yeah, who's going to watch two magic movies?
- 22:23Speaker 6: Probably not in the theaters either. So as they were
- 22:26Speaker 6: renting it, they were like, well, I'm going to watch
- 22:27Speaker 6: this one or this one. So I feel like this.
- 22:30Speaker 5: One is definitely way more high profile. No offense to,
- 22:34Speaker 5: what was his name? I wrote it down. Neil Berger,
- 22:37Speaker 5: the director of that one. But I feel like this
- 22:39Speaker 5: one has a bigger cast. No offense to Ed Norton
- 22:43Speaker 5: or Jessica Biel, but Scarlett Johansson's in this. And not
- 22:47Speaker 5: even in huge roles. I'm like, that shows kind of
- 22:49Speaker 5: just how big she's taken off in 10 years. But it's, yeah,
- 22:53Speaker 5: I feel like this is the higher profile director. This
- 22:55Speaker 5: is the more impressive names as far as the cast goes.
- 22:59Speaker 5: So I haven't gotten to the other one either. I
- 23:02Speaker 5: guess it's on the list too. I'll get around to
- 23:04Speaker 5: it at some point.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Y'all remember Memento?
- 23:07Speaker 5: That, for me, that was the entry. Like, I didn't
- 23:09Speaker 5: see Following until later. So, Memento was the one that
- 23:12Speaker 5: I went, oh, shit. And I was like, and who
- 23:14Speaker 5: is this guy that made this? Because this thing's amazing.
- 23:18Speaker 1: This is another Christopher Nolan.
- 23:19Speaker 6: And that was, yeah.
- 23:20Speaker 5: So, for me, that was my intro to Nolan. But
- 23:22Speaker 5: I still feel like, for most mainstream people, it's just, oh, Batman.
- 23:26Speaker 6: We like Batman.
- 23:27Speaker 5: But, like, everything after that, it's like, he only did
- 23:29Speaker 5: one movie in between each Batman.
- 23:31Speaker 6: The other one is, like, the biggest thing in the
- 23:33Speaker 6: world at the time.
- 23:35Speaker 1: So, it's like.
- 23:36Speaker 5: Everything else took off for him, but not the old prestige.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Yeah, it's amazing. I did a project for a film
- 23:43Speaker 1: class on Christopher Nolan, and to this day, I've still
- 23:45Speaker 1: not seen Memento. You should. I focused on Memento, and
- 23:50Speaker 1: I've not seen it.
- 23:51Speaker 5: If you like this one, I think you definitely... It
- 23:54Speaker 5: is funny. Watching this, you can see kind of both
- 23:57Speaker 5: ends of it. You see... You see the Batman version
- 24:01Speaker 5: of Christopher Nolan where, okay, I want it to be
- 24:03Speaker 5: kind of realistic and I want to strip down all
- 24:07Speaker 5: of the mythos that Batman had. It's like I kind
- 24:09Speaker 5: of want to make it as real world as I
- 24:11Speaker 5: can even though it's kind of a ridiculous idea. It's
- 24:14Speaker 5: like let's make it as close to the real world
- 24:16Speaker 5: as possible.
- 24:17Speaker 6: And then that's sort of what he does here.
- 24:20Speaker 5: It's like of all the magic in quotes, it's like
- 24:23Speaker 5: it's as real world as you can get up.
- 24:25Speaker 6: To a point.
- 24:25Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 24:26Speaker 5: And then like from that point, it's like it switches
- 24:29Speaker 5: to the other is the memento version of him.
- 24:31Speaker 6: Which is just like crazy editing.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:34Speaker 5: Tons of like telling a weird woven story in a
- 24:38Speaker 5: way that most people aren't used to.
- 24:40Speaker 1: But still never gets too fantastical.
- 24:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 24:42Speaker 1: It's never.
- 24:43Speaker 6: It's still grounded.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Even in the prestige when, when it's like, oh, this
- 24:48Speaker 1: is real magic on the table. You never feel like
- 24:50Speaker 1: it's in your face. It's never Harry Potter magic. You know, it's,
- 24:55Speaker 1: There's no Patronuses in this movie.
- 24:57Speaker 5: Even then, there might not be real magic, which I
- 25:00Speaker 5: guess we can... Again, I don't know what to... As
- 25:04Speaker 5: far as the normal little beats along the way, like
- 25:06Speaker 5: some movies you can just discuss, you know, plot by
- 25:09Speaker 5: plot kind of stuff. This one is almost like you
- 25:11Speaker 5: wait till the end and then you just have grand discussions. Yeah.
- 25:15Speaker 6: And that's kind of all I have with this one.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Yeah, well, this is still... You can really see.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Like if you watch this movie and you're like, oh yeah,
- 25:23Speaker 1: the guy that made Memento did this. You're like, oh yeah,
- 25:25Speaker 1: I get it. Because it's still got the, well, I mean,
- 25:30Speaker 1: it's just got those crazy edits. You don't really know
- 25:32Speaker 1: what happened when if you're not paying close attention.
- 25:35Speaker 5: Well, and you're kind of not supposed to know until
- 25:37Speaker 5: the end.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 25:38Speaker 5: Because as it all comes together, you're like, oh, okay,
- 25:40Speaker 5: now the timeline sort of falls into place. And you're like, well,
- 25:43Speaker 5: that's why he was reading this.
- 25:44Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 25:45Speaker 5: Because we also have those dueling journals where they're both
- 25:49Speaker 5: reading the other's journal at different times. And then to
- 25:53Speaker 5: add to the weird levels, it's also kind of a
- 25:56Speaker 5: made up version of a journal because they're both.
- 25:58Speaker 6: Supposed to be reading it.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Spoilers as you get to the end.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:02Speaker 5: It's kind of, even if it's, and that kind of
- 26:05Speaker 5: throws a little like.
- 26:07Speaker 6: How much of that is real?
- 26:08Speaker 5: Like since they both know they're making up whatever they want.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Exactly. It's like how.
- 26:13Speaker 5: It could all be made up.
- 26:14Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 26:15Speaker 1: How deep does this really go where you both know
- 26:18Speaker 1: the other is going to read your journal, but neither
- 26:21Speaker 1: of you thinks that the other one would be doing
- 26:24Speaker 1: that to you. But you are.
- 26:26Speaker 6: And only we are the ones to know what all's
- 26:28Speaker 6: going on.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:29Speaker 5: This invisible audience is the only one that knows what's
- 26:32Speaker 5: going on.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and I feel like through all that discussion, we've
- 26:35Speaker 1: disclosed nothing about this movie.
- 26:37Speaker 5: Which, yeah, again, that's why I'm like, watch it beforehand
- 26:40Speaker 5: because all we're going to ask is big questions. You'll
- 26:42Speaker 5: piece the story together when you watch it.
- 26:44Speaker 1: I will say before we get into the big questions,
- 26:46Speaker 1: my favorite line in this whole movie is by David Bowie.
- 26:51Speaker 1: It's in the scene where he.
- 26:52Speaker 6: That's all you need, really.
- 26:53Speaker 1: It's the scene where Hugh Jackman is out And he discovers, like,
- 26:57Speaker 1: this pile of hats. And then there's all the clone
- 27:01Speaker 1: cats and everything. And he picks up a hat and
- 27:03Speaker 1: he goes, which one's mine? And David Bowie goes, they're
- 27:07Speaker 1: all your hats, Mr. Angier.
- 27:09Speaker 5: I mean, to jump ahead, like, that performance, just him
- 27:14Speaker 5: as a guy. And that was one of those, like,
- 27:16Speaker 5: Nolan fought to bring him in. Like, he sent him
- 27:19Speaker 5: the offer and he originally said no. Because he kind
- 27:22Speaker 5: of quit doing movies.
- 27:23Speaker 6: At that point.
- 27:24Speaker 5: Yeah. He, like, over years, like, kept going, no, really,
- 27:27Speaker 5: this is the only way I envision this. Like, you're
- 27:29Speaker 5: the only one that's kind of weird enough and has
- 27:31Speaker 5: charisma and, like, can fulfill what I need in this
- 27:34Speaker 5: one specific part.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:36Speaker 5: So, yeah, he, like, flew out and convinced him, like, no,
- 27:38Speaker 5: I can't make this movie if you're not him. Yeah.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Yeah, honestly, when he died, I thought of this movie
- 27:44Speaker 1: before I thought of his music. I was like, no,
- 27:45Speaker 1: Tesla died.
- 27:47Speaker 5: That's the other. I've for years been kind of oddly
- 27:50Speaker 5: obsessed with Tesla anyway, like as a person. And I
- 27:54Speaker 5: love that this movie is sort of Team Tesla because
- 27:56Speaker 5: that's where I'm at.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:59Speaker 5: You see the other end of it and what a jackass.
- 28:03Speaker 5: Our rival. If you want to call him an inventor,
- 28:06Speaker 5: I think he's a hack.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Oh, you're talking about your boy Edison? Yeah, yeah.
- 28:10Speaker 6: He stole all Tesla's ideas and.
- 28:12Speaker 5: He was just a better businessman and he patented everything.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:15Speaker 5: The visionary genius has always been Tesla. So to me,
- 28:18Speaker 5: I I'm always like interested in that. So I love
- 28:20Speaker 5: seeing this, like mostly rooted in realism. Like he really
- 28:26Speaker 5: did a lot of this stuff. He really did those
- 28:28Speaker 5: experiments in that little Colorado town. So like a lot
- 28:31Speaker 5: of that is based in reality. And then he throws a,
- 28:35Speaker 5: we're assuming entirely fictional story in the middle. Yeah.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Yeah. Is it like the whole world's fair scenario that,
- 28:41Speaker 1: I mean, that really happened. Yeah. As real, most of
- 28:43Speaker 1: that stuff. Yeah.
- 28:45Speaker 6: But yeah, his performance is, again, it's almost bigger than X.
- 28:49Speaker 5: I thought it was going to be kind of a one-off,
- 28:51Speaker 5: because people will almost refer to it as a cameo.
- 28:53Speaker 6: I'm like, he's got like three scenes.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Yeah, you'd think so. He's important.
- 28:57Speaker 5: He's pretty solid. Yeah, he's definitely an important character, but
- 29:00Speaker 5: it's still a good amount of screen time, too.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 29:05Speaker 5: Other than the Tesla performance, there's also the weird, while
- 29:09Speaker 5: we're doing the structuring of it, the wraparound Michael Caine narrative.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:15Speaker 5: Which is also kind of like how you don't know
- 29:18Speaker 5: when it's coming from as you're watching it initially.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:22Speaker 5: It's only at the very end you're like, well, this
- 29:24Speaker 5: is kind of time-wise, this is the last thing that happens.
- 29:27Speaker 5: It really is after the fact of everything. But you
- 29:31Speaker 5: don't know that until you get to the very end
- 29:32Speaker 5: of the movie.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:34Speaker 5: Even though we're seeing little cut pieces from the very
- 29:36Speaker 5: beginning of the first couple of shots, we see him
- 29:38Speaker 5: doing the bird trick. Yeah. So all of that really
- 29:42Speaker 5: comes after everything's already over with. But at the same time,
- 29:46Speaker 5: it cuts in like maybe some of it is him
- 29:48Speaker 5: telling the story on the stand when the trial.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Is going on.
- 29:52Speaker 5: So it's like you get all these bits and pieces
- 29:54Speaker 5: of him Sort of telling the story, but again, how
- 29:57Speaker 5: reliable a.
- 29:58Speaker 6: Witness is he as well?
- 29:59Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 30:00Speaker 6: He's in court.
- 30:01Speaker 1: He's in court.
- 30:04Speaker 5: He's a weird, crazy old magic dude too. Who knows
- 30:06Speaker 5: what you can rely on in this guy.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Exactly. What secrets can he disclose?
- 30:10Speaker 5: Yeah. Again, everything about it structurally, which really for all
- 30:16Speaker 5: of that, it doesn't feel that weird. To me, Memento,
- 30:20Speaker 5: and again, definitely go watch it. Memento, you feel... like
- 30:24Speaker 5: you're watching something in a film class.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Like it's very jarring and it's planned.
- 30:29Speaker 5: And like, you feel like you're part of this little
- 30:31Speaker 5: experiment that Christopher Nolan's doing with this. Like it's not
- 30:34Speaker 5: that many movies later, but like he's sort of found
- 30:37Speaker 5: his footing as like a little smoother, more mainstream director.
- 30:41Speaker 5: And so like it, it feels a little smoother going
- 30:43Speaker 5: into it. Yeah.
- 30:44Speaker 1: It's sort of like he's refined that storytelling technique from
- 30:47Speaker 1: Memento where it's like, it can actually be a little
- 30:50Speaker 1: bit more cohesive and you actually understand what's going on.
- 30:53Speaker 6: He just likes doing that.
- 30:55Speaker 5: Because then I was thinking two of the three Batman
- 30:58Speaker 5: are like that. Like Batman Begins has the weird, like
- 31:01Speaker 5: we start with him as Batman and then get these
- 31:03Speaker 5: little flashbacks of him doing the whole trip and all
- 31:06Speaker 5: the training. And then I was like The Dark Knight
- 31:08Speaker 5: Rises is like that too. It's like we get that
- 31:11Speaker 5: whole flashback story of the kid and And the escape
- 31:14Speaker 5: and all of that. So, like, really, Dark Knight's kind
- 31:16Speaker 5: of the only one that's, like, a straight through. I
- 31:19Speaker 5: don't remember a ton of flashback stuff.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:21Speaker 5: Maybe a little with the bats in the cave, but.
- 31:24Speaker 1: Yeah. You know what? I'm not going to be critical
- 31:26Speaker 1: or anything, Chris. But, I mean, it's your best movie
- 31:30Speaker 1: so far.
- 31:31Speaker 5: Which one?
- 31:32Speaker 1: Prestige? Or Dark Knight? Dark Knight.
- 31:35Speaker 6: Dark Knight's.
- 31:36Speaker 1: It's one of those. Or most successful.
- 31:37Speaker 6: I feel like it's.
- 31:38Speaker 5: Well, I think it's. great.
- 31:40Speaker 6: I feel like, if anything, it's probably overly long.
- 31:43Speaker 5: I've said before, I feel like the whole boat scenario
- 31:47Speaker 5: at the end just kind of drags. You can take
- 31:50Speaker 5: a good 15-20 minutes out of that end part and
- 31:52Speaker 5: just tighten it up a little, but everything else dealing
- 31:55Speaker 5: with the Joker is kind of amazing, and obviously the performance,
- 31:59Speaker 5: so it's like everything else is pretty impressive.
- 32:02Speaker 1: I watched that movie when I was 17, I think.
- 32:06Speaker 1: That's one of the.
- 32:08Speaker 1: That's one of very few movies that I really remember
- 32:11Speaker 1: seeing in theaters.
- 32:12Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:12Speaker 1: And, like, I remember my first time watching it.
- 32:15Speaker 5: Watching the truck flip.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Yeah. That was amazing on the big screen.
- 32:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 32:20Speaker 6: Especially when they really did that.
- 32:21Speaker 1: It wasn't CG. Exactly. And now I loved every part
- 32:25Speaker 1: of it then, except for one part, which is when
- 32:30Speaker 1: Harvey Dent is in the back of this guy's car.
- 32:36Speaker 1: I forget who.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Yeah. And.
- 32:38Speaker 5: Right after he turns to Two-Face.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Right after he turns to Two-Face.
- 32:41Speaker 4: And.
- 32:42Speaker 1: I forget... Oh, he, like, flips the coin to decide, like,
- 32:47Speaker 1: if he's gonna kill this guy.
- 32:49Speaker 3: And.
- 32:49Speaker 1: I forget how, like, this line goes.
- 32:53Speaker 4: But.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Basically, he, like, he just really broadcasts what he's doing
- 33:01Speaker 1: rather than just, like... He shoots the driver instead of
- 33:04Speaker 1: the guy.
- 33:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 33:05Speaker 1: But he just says... oh, he basically was like, oh yeah,
- 33:08Speaker 1: I'm going to shoot your driver. And then he shoots
- 33:10Speaker 1: the driver. You could have just shot him and then
- 33:12Speaker 1: the car flips and you know.
- 33:14Speaker 5: Again, if there's a weak point in that movie, I
- 33:16Speaker 5: feel like they, for as much time as they spend,
- 33:19Speaker 5: because I'll go back to that all the time of
- 33:21Speaker 5: like a rich villain in a superhero movie because there's a.
- 33:24Speaker 6: Lot of really bad ones lately. But like that Joker,
- 33:27Speaker 6: they spend so much time with him.
- 33:28Speaker 5: They really let him, you know, Heath Ledger develops that
- 33:31Speaker 5: character on screen.
- 33:33Speaker 6: I'm assuming off.
- 33:34Speaker 5: He did tons of work. But like, Two-Face just gets
- 33:37Speaker 5: thrown at the end. And I'm like, that's kind of
- 33:40Speaker 5: an important villain too. And I think he could have
- 33:43Speaker 5: had his own movie. I feel like they rushed that
- 33:46Speaker 5: so much, especially since they cap it off the way
- 33:48Speaker 5: they do. It's like if we were going to then
- 33:50Speaker 5: have another continued movie somewhere down the.
- 33:52Speaker 6: Line, which no one didn't plan on doing, I guess.
- 33:54Speaker 6: But still, I feel like that's.
- 33:56Speaker 5: Also a really rich character that gets sort of rushed.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:00Speaker 6: Shoved in there.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Yeah, there's so much room for like, just for exploration
- 34:05Speaker 1: of that dichotomy of him as Harvey Dent and him
- 34:09Speaker 1: as Two-Face. But it's just so hard to do with
- 34:13Speaker 1: superhero movies because there are so many people that, so
- 34:16Speaker 1: many characters that people know, and they're like, well, why
- 34:18Speaker 1: didn't you put this guy in the movie? Why didn't
- 34:20Speaker 1: you put him in the movie? Geeks need to shut up. Exactly.
- 34:23Speaker 6: Let somebody make a good movie.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Yeah. The only one I was surprised about was Dark
- 34:27Speaker 1: Knight Rises, like, why Bane? Yeah. He's cool, but it's like,
- 34:32Speaker 1: he's not a, He's not a prime time Batman character.
- 34:35Speaker 5: Again, I think it's going more with the newer, like
- 34:37Speaker 5: they keep trying to do that with all of them.
- 34:39Speaker 5: Like same thing with like the Spider-Man movies. It's like, oh,
- 34:42Speaker 5: we got to work in Venom. Like we got to
- 34:43Speaker 5: do a more recent.
- 34:44Speaker 6: Like, well, you've got to, I mean, if anybody has
- 34:46Speaker 6: a rogues.
- 34:47Speaker 5: Gallery, it's Spider-Man. And like, no, let's pull the most
- 34:50Speaker 5: recent and the one that appeals to the teenagers that
- 34:52Speaker 5: like grew up on it recently.
- 34:54Speaker 1: So it's like.
- 34:55Speaker 5: I think they always just kind of drag, well, it's
- 34:57Speaker 5: going to bring in more recent kids because kids are money.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. I think that's part of it. Yeah, and
- 35:03Speaker 1: I think they're doing a good job of it. I
- 35:06Speaker 1: grew up not really watching or not really reading comic books.
- 35:09Speaker 1: I got sucked in by the X-Men animated series.
- 35:15Speaker 5: We've discussed that recently.
- 35:16Speaker 6: One of the guys on the show loved that series.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Yeah, it's so good.
- 35:20Speaker 5: It's good.
- 35:20Speaker 1: And, I mean, that's what it was made for. And
- 35:23Speaker 1: it worked on me.
- 35:24Speaker 5: A lot of those animated ones again the Batman animated
- 35:27Speaker 5: series is still one of the best shows like not
- 35:30Speaker 5: just animated shows like it's better written than most television
- 35:33Speaker 5: period exactly so it's like again they could do a
- 35:37Speaker 5: lot of really solid stuff with the animated.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Stuff yeah exactly like that Spider-Man.
- 35:42Speaker 5: Those animated ones were good too like they had a
- 35:44Speaker 5: good run in that like 90s into the early 2000s
- 35:47Speaker 5: like they did a lot of really solid stuff with
- 35:49Speaker 5: those animated shows and sucked all of us in obviously.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Yeah for sure It's weird how Marvel is so good
- 35:56Speaker 1: at cartoon series, but they haven't really put out a
- 36:00Speaker 1: lot of cartoon movies that were great.
- 36:02Speaker 6: DC's doing better. They can't make a live action movie
- 36:05Speaker 6: to save their life.
- 36:06Speaker 5: But their animated stuff, the ones that go straight to
- 36:10Speaker 5: streaming now, not even straight to DVD usually, but those
- 36:14Speaker 5: are really good.
- 36:14Speaker 6: We've seen any of those. The Flashpoint one is really great,
- 36:18Speaker 6: and a lot of those.
- 36:20Speaker 5: They can do solid stuff as far as animated, but
- 36:23Speaker 5: can't make life.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 36:24Speaker 5: They keep trying. They're aping Marvel as best they can,
- 36:28Speaker 5: and they're still.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Doing it wrong. Yeah. I mean, just get old Chris
- 36:32Speaker 1: on all of it.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:33Speaker 5: Well, he was even involved last time, and it didn't
- 36:36Speaker 5: help because Zack Snyder keeps screwing everything up.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Yeah, well.
- 36:39Speaker 6: There's your problem, Zack Snyder.
- 36:41Speaker 1: Yeah, good luck with that boy.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:43Speaker 5: Chris really just boot that guy to the side at
- 36:45Speaker 5: least some of the series they're handing off now it's
- 36:47Speaker 5: like we have a different director on Wonder Woman we
- 36:50Speaker 5: have a different Drew well now I guess we have
- 36:53Speaker 5: Batman directing his own movie next time around so yeah
- 36:56Speaker 5: oh yeah that'll that'll that's better than Zack Snyder doing
- 37:01Speaker 5: it so excited for like a Jason Mewes cameo.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Oh god.
- 37:06Speaker 5: We've had enough of those haven't we yeah as a
- 37:09Speaker 5: whole life no offense to Jason but hey more power
- 37:14Speaker 5: to him hang in there he's.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Had a rough life but look you just don't you
- 37:17Speaker 1: just don't belong in some places.
- 37:19Speaker 5: We saw you in Scream 3 it didn't make any
- 37:21Speaker 5: sense please don't do it again alright Prestige so we
- 37:27Speaker 5: sidetracked on superheroes which I do a lot I.
- 37:30Speaker 1: Realize that oh man I could talk about it all day.
- 37:34Speaker 3: Now you're looking for the secret but you won't find
- 37:40Speaker 3: it because of course you're not really looking You don't
- 37:46Speaker 3: really want to work it out.
- 37:52Speaker 2: You want to be fooled.
- 37:54Speaker 5: But yeah, I was like, the weird flashback thing seems
- 37:57Speaker 5: to be something that Nolan likes to do anyway, so
- 38:00Speaker 5: this falls right into his comfort zone of how to
- 38:05Speaker 5: write a story, how to structure things.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think I like it because it's kind
- 38:11Speaker 1: of the way I like to write comedy, is where,
- 38:14Speaker 1: like he never does like a, five years later or
- 38:18Speaker 1: five years back, like the little tagline.
- 38:23Speaker 5: I heard he got that from Terrence Malick, like watching
- 38:27Speaker 5: Thin Red Line where he does like those, you know,
- 38:30Speaker 5: they're walking through the middle of a war zone and
- 38:32Speaker 5: then it just, no wavy lines, no clouds, it just
- 38:36Speaker 5: immediately cuts to, you know, the girl back home that
- 38:38Speaker 5: he's thinking about and like there is no big fancy
- 38:41Speaker 5: thing hey, guess what? This is a cutaway scene. It's
- 38:44Speaker 5: just like you piece it together as the viewer.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Or you don't. Tough luck. I don't care. If you
- 38:48Speaker 1: can't follow along, get out. Yeah.
- 38:50Speaker 5: I think he publicly has stated that's pretty much where
- 38:55Speaker 5: I saw that and went, oh, I like that.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 38:57Speaker 6: Just see it keep coming up in his.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Work now, too. Yeah, I'm a big fan of not
- 39:02Speaker 1: spoon-feeding things.
- 39:04Speaker 5: Yeah, again, I think that's part of the problem with
- 39:06Speaker 5: things as.
- 39:07Speaker 6: They get bigger and bigger and we have to dumb
- 39:09Speaker 6: them down for the masses.
- 39:11Speaker 5: Nolan's never done that. Even when he's making huge, huge
- 39:16Speaker 5: movies with Inception.
- 39:19Speaker 6: Inception is so complicated.
- 39:22Speaker 5: And it made a lot of money.
- 39:23Speaker 6: Like that's the part that amazes me is like it
- 39:25Speaker 6: was a huge.
- 39:25Speaker 5: Summer movie yeah it's not based on a comic but
- 39:28Speaker 5: it's his original concept.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Well it is based on a Donald Duck comic strip
- 39:33Speaker 1: well no.
- 39:34Speaker 5: Scrooge McDuck I mean that guy got into some crazy
- 39:37Speaker 5: adventures yeah DuckTales come on guys another animated show that
- 39:44Speaker 5: one actually again good writing yeah good show All right, so,
- 39:48Speaker 5: but yeah, I feel like he can do these super
- 39:51Speaker 5: complicated things and not dumb it down. Even to the
- 39:54Speaker 5: point where I'm like, sometimes it's its own flaw, but
- 39:57Speaker 5: I'm like, I don't, because I think what was the other,
- 39:59Speaker 5: in Interstellar, there's some problems at the end of Interstellar there,
- 40:04Speaker 5: but I'm just like, I kind of don't care, just because,
- 40:07Speaker 5: I'll just give him credit.
- 40:08Speaker 6: Like, I don't give him a pass. I still have issues.
- 40:11Speaker 5: With it, but.
- 40:12Speaker 6: Just points for doing your own thing.
- 40:14Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just so ambitious.
- 40:16Speaker 5: I always give him credit for just doing whatever the
- 40:18Speaker 5: hell he wants to do. That's always impressive, even if
- 40:21Speaker 5: I feel like it's still kind of a misfire, but
- 40:24Speaker 5: points to you for not caving to whatever the studio
- 40:26Speaker 5: probably would do.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. I can't imagine what kind of concessions he
- 40:33Speaker 1: did make.
- 40:34Speaker 5: I mean, really, some of the stuff he gets away
- 40:36Speaker 5: with in a lot of these, even in his big,
- 40:38Speaker 5: goofy superhero movies, I'm just like... That last one is really.
- 40:41Speaker 6: Long and super complicated.
- 40:44Speaker 1: What did you want to do?
- 40:45Speaker 5: A villain and another villain that you don't know is
- 40:46Speaker 5: the villain. It's a bomb driving around a city. I'm like,
- 40:50Speaker 5: you had to have some sort of studio heads going, wait, what?
- 40:54Speaker 5: If you weren't Christopher Nolan, I would cut this.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Budget in a second.
- 40:58Speaker 5: He's at least gotten to the point he has a
- 40:59Speaker 5: little power. That's, I guess, good for artistic freedom anyway.
- 41:05Speaker 5: I was going to at least go into some of
- 41:06Speaker 5: the bigger questions here.
- 41:08Speaker 4: Yes.
- 41:09Speaker 6: So as we get back to.
- 41:12Speaker 5: The Tesla thing, as we get to that inclusion of Tesla,
- 41:17Speaker 5: is he really making this machine?
- 41:20Speaker 6: That is one of those you're like, is this actual science?
- 41:24Speaker 6: Because that's the thing. There really isn't any magic in
- 41:27Speaker 6: this movie. At the most, it's a lot of really
- 41:30Speaker 6: good trickery, even to the point of a double, an actual.
- 41:34Speaker 5: Human being double. It's a twin. Yeah.
- 41:38Speaker 6: Surprise, it's a twin. And then the only thing that's sort.
- 41:42Speaker 5: Of mystical is still based 100% in science, to the
- 41:45Speaker 5: point you have one of the most well-known scientists in
- 41:48Speaker 5: the world creating it.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Well, is it? Is it? It sort of begs the question, is...
- 41:54Speaker 1: Were his real life accomplishments all science? You know? It
- 41:58Speaker 1: makes you wonder.
- 41:59Speaker 5: Again, I do kind of like that it leaves it
- 42:00Speaker 5: super gray. And you're just like, you can kind of
- 42:03Speaker 5: go either way. It's like, well, is there any cloning
- 42:05Speaker 5: and this is all part of Nolan messing with us?
- 42:08Speaker 6: Or even in the.
- 42:09Speaker 5: Real world, it's like, was Tesla just, was he.
- 42:12Speaker 6: The magician involved?
- 42:13Speaker 1: Exactly. Well, it's not even like, it's weird because it's
- 42:17Speaker 1: not really cloning per se because he He replicates these hats, too.
- 42:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:22Speaker 1: And you gotta have DNA for cloning. Maybe it's just
- 42:25Speaker 1: a big.
- 42:25Speaker 5: Living hats.
- 42:26Speaker 1: Just a big 3D printer.
- 42:28Speaker 6: There you go.
- 42:29Speaker 5: See, once again... Well, and that's when I was thinking,
- 42:31Speaker 5: especially as we got... It sort of has a superhero tie-in, too.
- 42:35Speaker 5: I'm like, is this.
- 42:37Speaker 6: Again, we're still using, quote, magic.
- 42:40Speaker 5: Like, is magic, even in any scenario, is magic that
- 42:45Speaker 5: seems real, is it just science that we don't understand yet?
- 42:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:50Speaker 5: And that's like something that, and I went back to
- 42:52Speaker 5: that because recently I was kind of knocking Thor, but like, again,
- 42:56Speaker 5: that's kind of that same thing. Is Thor a mystical
- 42:58Speaker 5: God from, you know, the wherever, or is he just
- 43:01Speaker 5: from another planet? And the stuff that they do is
- 43:03Speaker 5: so far advanced beyond us that it seems like he's
- 43:07Speaker 5: a God. It seems like it's superpowers and magic, but
- 43:09Speaker 5: really it's all science in their world. But we're so,
- 43:13Speaker 5: Behind them, we don't really get it yet.
- 43:16Speaker 6: It kind of makes me wonder.
- 43:18Speaker 5: Because to me, looking at what Tesla, in the real world,
- 43:20Speaker 5: not even the movie, in the real world, what Tesla
- 43:22Speaker 5: was doing to people in the 1800s was almost extraterrestrial.
- 43:28Speaker 1: I mean, it's literally taken us almost 200 years before
- 43:31Speaker 1: people get it. Oh yeah, Tesla was doing the right thing.
- 43:34Speaker 5: I mean, the fact that people are still lighting their
- 43:37Speaker 5: house with candles in an entire mountain.
- 43:39Speaker 6: Town, because I think he really did all that.
- 43:41Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 43:42Speaker 5: He did that trade-off with them to be able to
- 43:44Speaker 5: run tests. So he lit up with electricity that he created,
- 43:47Speaker 5: screw you Edison, that he created this entire lit electrical
- 43:52Speaker 5: town that nobody had ever seen that before. Even our
- 43:56Speaker 5: well-traveled magician, he's like, whoa, the whole town's got electricity?
- 44:01Speaker 5: So again, to think that just from that 1800s perspective,
- 44:05Speaker 5: it was just.
- 44:06Speaker 1: Like, wait, what?
- 44:08Speaker 5: What all was he doing that we don't even know about?
- 44:10Speaker 5: The fact that he's creating electricity and radio and everything
- 44:15Speaker 5: that came along at that point, he's kind of got
- 44:17Speaker 5: his finger in, to some extent, as it expands. So again,
- 44:22Speaker 5: how mystical a dude was this?
- 44:24Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. It's like, where... I mean, if anything, if
- 44:30Speaker 1: there's an argument for time travel, you know... He's a
- 44:34Speaker 1: futuristic man.
- 44:35Speaker 5: The machine we didn't get to there. The one over
- 44:37Speaker 5: in the corner that didn't get burned down. He just
- 44:39Speaker 5: took it with him and traveled back in time and
- 44:41Speaker 5: killed Edison.
- 44:42Speaker 7: Wait.
- 44:43Speaker 1: No. Oh, dude. If only.
- 44:45Speaker 6: That would have thrown off.
- 44:46Speaker 5: Our whole timeline. This is complicated.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Shit, man.
- 44:51Speaker 7: Oh.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Yeah, what a wild movie.
- 44:53Speaker 5: So, yeah, I mean, it does leave us with those
- 44:55Speaker 5: questions at the end of, like, is this actually, like,
- 44:58Speaker 5: a duplicate of Hugh Jackman?
- 45:01Speaker 1: And is.
- 45:02Speaker 5: That's the one thing I've said that's sort of either
- 45:05Speaker 5: a plot hole or, once again, Nolan just leaving these
- 45:07Speaker 5: big empty spaces for us to fill in.
- 45:10Speaker 6: Why would he keep killing.
- 45:11Speaker 5: Them every night rather than doing two and just doing
- 45:15Speaker 5: basically the same scenario? Once he made one version of himself,
- 45:19Speaker 5: couldn't he just do the exact same thing?
- 45:21Speaker 1: Well, because the whole thing is about one-upping the other guy.
- 45:25Speaker 5: To the point of murdering a ton of people.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. I mean, there is no explanation for where
- 45:32Speaker 1: these bodies are going. So I think that more than.
- 45:36Speaker 6: Anything is a problem. Just a bunch of blind guys
- 45:38Speaker 6: hauling them off at the end of the night.
- 45:40Speaker 5: Shh, don't ask any questions. Oh, yeah, I forgot about
- 45:42Speaker 5: that part.
- 45:43Speaker 1: I didn't re-watch the movie.
- 45:46Speaker 5: I forgot. I was going back through some of this,
- 45:48Speaker 5: and I was like, okay, well, that is what they
- 45:50Speaker 5: were doing at the end, but then I think some
- 45:53Speaker 5: of them, they were just taking and dumping in that
- 45:55Speaker 5: theater where they end up at the end, which is why.
- 45:57Speaker 6: You see the one still in the tank at the end.
- 45:59Speaker 5: I'm like, so they weren't even burying them or burning them,
- 46:02Speaker 5: or they were just dumping them in the old abandoned
- 46:05Speaker 5: theater down the street?
- 46:06Speaker 1: And now that's because I think the whole blind thing....
- 46:12Speaker 5: Those are the worst stagehands ever.
- 46:15Speaker 1: And that doesn't mean they don't know it's a body.
- 46:18Speaker 6: You would hope they're not stupid.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. You got to be smart enough to be like, oh,
- 46:23Speaker 1: I got to get rid of this.
- 46:25Speaker 5: Why am I an accessory? You're not paying me that well, dude.
- 46:28Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. But I think, I mean, he's got to
- 46:34Speaker 1: do the same trick over and over. And you got
- 46:37Speaker 1: to really, I don't know, you got to really create
- 46:42Speaker 1: that new person, I guess. Or else, I mean, you're
- 46:46Speaker 1: just backtracking into the same trick that... that Borden was doing.
- 46:51Speaker 5: And then we have this loose end, because we never
- 46:54Speaker 5: really see what happens to the other guy, right? Because
- 46:58Speaker 5: he already found a duplicate of him that looked pretty
- 47:00Speaker 5: much like him, because it was played by him.
- 47:03Speaker 1: Well, it was his brother.
- 47:04Speaker 6: Well, I mean, no, the Hugh Jackman finds that other
- 47:07Speaker 6: guy in the bar.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Oh, right, right, right, yeah.
- 47:09Speaker 5: And I'm like, so we've already got a duplicate, really,
- 47:12Speaker 5: that we've played this game.
- 47:13Speaker 6: He just got a little power hungry.
- 47:15Speaker 5: So I was like, maybe that's the reason is, So
- 47:17Speaker 5: they don't start to become kind of conscious of what's
- 47:19Speaker 5: going on.
- 47:19Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 47:20Speaker 5: And they want to get into that same dynamic of, wait,
- 47:22Speaker 5: I'm the real magician. You're just my copy. So, again,
- 47:25Speaker 5: I think that is maybe the only argument that you
- 47:29Speaker 5: could have. Whichever version is left is the only one
- 47:33Speaker 5: in charge. You don't have a little power play.
- 47:35Speaker 1: Exactly. You have full control of the whole situation.
- 47:37Speaker 5: But did we ever see what happened to that? They
- 47:39Speaker 5: got rid of him because he got... I don't remember now.
- 47:43Speaker 1: Honestly.
- 47:45Speaker 5: Because then by the end, I've heard that as a
- 47:47Speaker 5: theory of that was part of it, is he staged it.
- 47:52Speaker 5: There hadn't really been any clones along the way. He
- 47:54Speaker 5: staged it with that other guy, and then had him
- 47:57Speaker 5: kill off that guy, and then... frame his rival at
- 48:01Speaker 5: the same time while killing the other guy and then
- 48:03Speaker 5: he gets to live on as the creepy old man with.
- 48:07Speaker 1: The stump leg.
- 48:10Speaker 6: Again, that's another theory I've heard thrown out there. I
- 48:13Speaker 6: like that there isn't a definitive answer.
- 48:15Speaker 5: I like all the weird theories.
- 48:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and that really fucks up. just as humans we
- 48:21Speaker 1: want a conclusion and maybe there just isn't one maybe
- 48:24Speaker 1: there just isn't.
- 48:25Speaker 5: One see I kind of like when it's like that
- 48:27Speaker 5: and I think that comes into play too especially because
- 48:30Speaker 5: it's Nolan if it was a lesser director but I
- 48:33Speaker 5: think the fact that even by the end of it
- 48:35Speaker 5: the quote is you want to be fooled Like, I
- 48:39Speaker 5: think it's part of the game. I think to some
- 48:41Speaker 5: extent he's playing with us just as much as the
- 48:44Speaker 5: musicians on stage.
- 48:46Speaker 6: It's like, as the director, I'm in charge of everything
- 48:49Speaker 6: I shoot.
- 48:49Speaker 5: I'm going to edit the hell out of this so
- 48:51Speaker 5: that you don't really know what's going on until it's
- 48:52Speaker 5: too late. And then by the time we get to
- 48:54Speaker 5: the end, what difference does it make?
- 48:56Speaker 6: Because I put on my show for you.
- 48:58Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 48:58Speaker 6: And you've been entertained.
- 49:00Speaker 5: So, like, I feel like there's a little bit of
- 49:02Speaker 5: that going on. Yeah.
- 49:03Speaker 1: See, that in music is tone painting. You sing a
- 49:07Speaker 1: high note and the... You sing the word high, the
- 49:10Speaker 1: note is high. It's the same shit. And I feel
- 49:15Speaker 1: like so much more impressive to do as a director
- 49:19Speaker 1: and actually trick someone. while telling them that they're being tricked.
- 49:22Speaker 5: Yeah, when you've admitted it from almost the very first frame,
- 49:26Speaker 5: you're just like, by the way, this is how magic works.
- 49:30Speaker 6: And magic in movies is called editing.
- 49:33Speaker 5: And yeah, this, I didn't want to see what the,
- 49:37Speaker 5: actually I was just looking up other stuff and I
- 49:38Speaker 5: ran across, there's 146 time jump cuts.
- 49:42Speaker 6: In this movie.
- 49:44Speaker 5: 146 times that it jumps back and forth in time
- 49:47Speaker 5: to different little scenarios and clips.
- 49:49Speaker 6: Jesus Christ.
- 49:50Speaker 5: So I was just like, that's somebody who's messing with
- 49:53Speaker 5: the audience a little bit.
- 49:54Speaker 1: Yeah, he's not, I mean, he knows what he's doing
- 49:57Speaker 1: at that point.
- 49:58Speaker 6: 145 cuts.
- 50:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that's fine. Maybe it's a fluke.
- 50:03Speaker 6: But six, well, we've gone too far.
- 50:05Speaker 5: But I think it is one of those, like, to him,
- 50:07Speaker 5: that's the magic, in quotes, is like the fact that
- 50:10Speaker 5: he has the power to mess with you as the
- 50:13Speaker 5: audience and he can convince you whatever you see so
- 50:16Speaker 5: by the end again it's like we have no real
- 50:19Speaker 5: reliable witnesses we're reading journals that were made up for
- 50:21Speaker 5: the other guy it's all made you know made possible
- 50:25Speaker 5: by this machine by a mystical man that lives in
- 50:28Speaker 5: the woods right now until they burn his house down
- 50:30Speaker 5: so it's like it's all so unreliable that again i
- 50:33Speaker 5: think by the end it is just like what.
- 50:35Speaker 6: Do you want it to be like i made this
- 50:37Speaker 6: movie you have fun with it Exactly.
- 50:39Speaker 5: Shows over.
- 50:40Speaker 6: Curtain.
- 50:43Speaker 1: I totally forgot about the fucking brother in disguise. Well, yeah.
- 50:49Speaker 5: Again, that's the Batman Begins version. That's him grounding, like,
- 50:53Speaker 5: there's no magic. It's a dude with a twin brother,
- 50:57Speaker 5: which supposedly is what they used to do in the
- 50:59Speaker 5: real world when they did this disappearing man and he
- 51:02Speaker 5: reappears over there. It's a set of brothers. That is
- 51:05Speaker 5: not that far-fetched. And it's funny how much I didn't
- 51:09Speaker 5: totally think of that ahead. I did think that guy
- 51:11Speaker 5: looked like he was wearing a lot of makeup the
- 51:12Speaker 5: whole time.
- 51:13Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 51:13Speaker 5: So I'm like, I don't know who that guy is yet.
- 51:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:16Speaker 5: I know something's up with that weird guy because he's
- 51:18Speaker 5: wearing way too much makeup.
- 51:19Speaker 1: Yeah. Anybody that doesn't say anything, I'm like, all right,
- 51:22Speaker 1: something's going on here.
- 51:23Speaker 5: And he's just sort of loitering around behind him. And
- 51:26Speaker 5: I'm like, that guy's not rich. Why does he have
- 51:28Speaker 5: a little manservant following him around all the time? The
- 51:30Speaker 5: other one was rich.
- 51:31Speaker 1: Yeah. Why do you have this prop of a person?
- 51:35Speaker 6: That just sort of hangs around.
- 51:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:37Speaker 5: Leads to a really weird, again, I didn't think about
- 51:40Speaker 5: it until they got to the very end of the story.
- 51:41Speaker 5: I'm like, so he wasn't cheating on her. The other
- 51:45Speaker 5: brother was with Carla Johansson the whole time. They split
- 51:49Speaker 5: it up and it's like two entirely separate lives, but
- 51:52Speaker 5: when they were together, they had to trade off and
- 51:54Speaker 5: be a different character. But yeah, he was never even
- 51:57Speaker 5: cheating on her.
- 51:57Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 51:59Speaker 6: And the wife killed herself.
- 52:01Speaker 1: So everybody ruined their lives. Yeah, oh man.
- 52:06Speaker 5: So yeah, that's another one I think I'd seen is
- 52:09Speaker 5: like how much by the end it's like, okay, does
- 52:12Speaker 5: he really win? Like sure he shoots him, but like
- 52:15Speaker 5: your brother's dead, your wife's dead.
- 52:17Speaker 1: You've lost everything.
- 52:19Speaker 5: You've lost your entire career.
- 52:21Speaker 6: Like everything's gone now, but you really one-upped him.
- 52:24Speaker 1: Yeah, right. So many distractions. I spent the whole movie like,
- 52:28Speaker 1: why does this guy love your daughter so much?
- 52:30Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 52:30Speaker 1: Why is he so nice to her?
- 52:31Speaker 5: He really is into your daughter.
- 52:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:34Speaker 5: To me, I got more of a creepy vibe. I'm like,
- 52:35Speaker 5: why are you leaving that dude with your daughter?
- 52:37Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 52:38Speaker 5: I'm like, what kind of parent are you? Let's have
- 52:40Speaker 5: a talk.
- 52:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:41Speaker 5: This is not the way you operate as a dad.
- 52:43Speaker 1: Yeah, we're a weird man.
- 52:44Speaker 5: But later, it didn't matter.
- 52:45Speaker 6: Yeah, okay, well.
- 52:47Speaker 5: It's part of the family. It's all cool.
- 52:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 52:50Speaker 5: But yeah, I think by the end, and even before
- 52:52Speaker 5: it was done, I don't think I got to the
- 52:54Speaker 5: bigger questions like this till the end.
- 52:57Speaker 6: Midway in, I'm just like, this isn't even a movie
- 52:59Speaker 6: about magic. It's just obsession. It's just obsession and revenge.
- 53:05Speaker 5: That's all it is, is a weird little thriller about
- 53:07Speaker 5: obsession and revenge that happens to take place in magic.
- 53:12Speaker 6: It's so just a weird.
- 53:15Speaker 5: Yeah, what was the line?
- 53:16Speaker 1: Obsession is a young man's game.
- 53:17Speaker 5: Yeah, uh-huh.
- 53:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, it's... And I'm like, okay, and I'm
- 53:20Speaker 6: out of here.
- 53:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:22Speaker 5: And that was the point I think I was, like,
- 53:25Speaker 5: when the fact that one of them is, like, just
- 53:28Speaker 5: gotten shot, because he's laying there bandaged up shot. The
- 53:32Speaker 5: other one crips his way in with a limp because he, like,
- 53:35Speaker 5: both of them had just gotten pretty badly injured in
- 53:39Speaker 5: the middle of, like, one-upping this guy.
- 53:41Speaker 6: And I'm like, okay, you're not really one-upping.
- 53:43Speaker 1: Yeah, who wins you?
- 53:43Speaker 6: You're almost going to get killed every time you do it.
- 53:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:47Speaker 1: I mean, even with the cloning shit, it's like, who
- 53:49Speaker 1: ends up in the box? You might kill yourself.
- 53:51Speaker 6: And he kind of did.
- 53:52Speaker 5: Like, if you believe that scenario, if that's real, he
- 53:56Speaker 5: was the one doing the production every time. So it's like,
- 53:59Speaker 5: if it's a cloning machine, he's killing the real version
- 54:02Speaker 5: of him at that moment, and a new clone pops
- 54:04Speaker 5: out over there.
- 54:05Speaker 1: Well, I think the machine, like, it doesn't necessarily leave
- 54:11Speaker 1: the object in the machine in the machine. So it might,
- 54:14Speaker 1: it could be that the new.
- 54:16Speaker 5: I thought each time he was just, he has himself
- 54:19Speaker 5: was dropping through the floor and drowning and in that
- 54:21Speaker 5: moment creating a new version of himself to carry on
- 54:25Speaker 5: with the exact same brain.
- 54:26Speaker 1: Well, I think that's part of the conflict is that
- 54:31Speaker 1: he doesn't know who will end up in the box.
- 54:34Speaker 1: So I think sometimes it literally does transport him away
- 54:39Speaker 1: and then the clone appears where he was standing. So it's,
- 54:43Speaker 1: I don't know. It's too complicated. I feel like that
- 54:46Speaker 1: is not really explained.
- 54:48Speaker 5: We have to ask the cat. Cat's the only one
- 54:51Speaker 5: that really knows.
- 54:52Speaker 1: Yeah. I think the hat.
- 54:54Speaker 5: You talk to the hat.
- 54:55Speaker 1: A thousand hats. They're all your hat.
- 54:58Speaker 5: The hat shot was pretty cool. And again, that's one
- 55:00Speaker 5: of those, that opening shot is the prestige of the movie, basically.
- 55:05Speaker 5: And he's from the get-go. The title sequence is just like, yeah,
- 55:10Speaker 5: watch this. In a little while, this is going to
- 55:12Speaker 5: blow your mind.
- 55:13Speaker 1: What are all these fucking hats about, dude?
- 55:15Speaker 6: Looks crazy, huh?
- 55:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:17Speaker 6: Well, it's not just for effect. Wait till we get
- 55:19Speaker 6: into the movie.
- 55:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:20Speaker 5: So it does kind of right from the get-go sort
- 55:22Speaker 5: of give you that little tip of the, I'd say hat,
- 55:24Speaker 5: but that's all right.
- 55:27Speaker 1: You said it.
- 55:28Speaker 5: It's out there. But then we also get the sequence
- 55:33Speaker 5: with the cat. And then like, so you do see
- 55:36Speaker 5: it kind of work, I guess, if you're buying that
- 55:40Speaker 5: weird perspective.
- 55:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:42Speaker 6: But at the same time, then it's like, okay, well, Again,
- 55:46Speaker 6: it's like, what do.
- 55:47Speaker 5: You do with.
- 55:48Speaker 6: Does it transport?
- 55:50Speaker 5: And again, I like that there's no science enough to
- 55:52Speaker 5: it to figure out that, oh, it does it over
- 55:54Speaker 5: there a couple yards.
- 55:55Speaker 6: They kept going, oh, this machine don't work.
- 55:58Speaker 1: I don't know where the fuck it ends up.
- 56:00Speaker 6: Sorry we took all your money. Oh, wait, look at
- 56:03Speaker 6: all this shit in the yard.
- 56:04Speaker 1: Yeah. They never really explain how they... triangulate the positioning,
- 56:10Speaker 1: so he ends up in the theater every time.
- 56:12Speaker 5: Well, I was like, maybe it always sends you to that,
- 56:14Speaker 5: because again, all the hats were there, the cat went there,
- 56:17Speaker 5: so maybe it always just launches it to this one
- 56:19Speaker 5: specific spot, so after killing a few clones, he figured out, okay,
- 56:23Speaker 5: that place up in the balcony, okay, that's where it lands,
- 56:25Speaker 5: and as long as it's I make sure it's like
- 56:27Speaker 5: a roped off area where nobody can.
- 56:29Speaker 6: See me materialize or whatever the hell happens to him.
- 56:33Speaker 5: It's like that's the good place because it did seem
- 56:34Speaker 5: like that's part of the production every night is he
- 56:36Speaker 5: just pops up out of the balcony.
- 56:38Speaker 1: Yeah, which is so confusing.
- 56:42Speaker 6: Ta-da!
- 56:46Speaker 1: I think part of that is so funny because even
- 56:51Speaker 1: if they didn't conceal it like it's some fantastical thing,
- 56:55Speaker 1: That would be incredible to watch. Be like, oh yeah,
- 56:58Speaker 1: we made another man.
- 57:01Speaker 5: And this is another one I didn't think of until
- 57:04Speaker 5: I was writing this stuff down and there was something
- 57:05Speaker 5: that popped up. And it was, again, another crazy fan
- 57:08Speaker 5: theory part of it. So, again, the first time through
- 57:13Speaker 5: I didn't really think about it. The Tesla thing is
- 57:16Speaker 5: all a red herring? Because they're brothers.
- 57:18Speaker 6: There is no magical machine that did it the first time.
- 57:21Speaker 5: So he just wrote down Tesla and was like, have fun, loser.
- 57:25Speaker 5: Have a nice trip to America. So the entire, that
- 57:29Speaker 5: whole leg of the movie is just bullshit. Except then
- 57:33Speaker 5: he makes good on it if you buy that part
- 57:35Speaker 5: of the story. But I was just like, within the
- 57:37Speaker 5: context of that first half, there is no machine. There's
- 57:39Speaker 5: a machine that makes sparks. But that's all they did.
- 57:42Speaker 5: So just like, there is no... Tesla magically doing it
- 57:46Speaker 5: the first time that he wants him to recreate so
- 57:49Speaker 5: that whole piece of it is just kind of bullshit
- 57:52Speaker 5: except then he really does it if you go with
- 57:54Speaker 5: that part of the story yeah so I didn't really
- 57:56Speaker 5: think about that I was like okay so he made
- 57:58Speaker 5: a machine but you get to the end and I'm
- 57:59Speaker 5: like well wait no he didn't it was two.
- 58:02Speaker 1: Guys yeah it's all a lie this.
- 58:05Speaker 5: Movie's all a lie it kind of is yeah I
- 58:09Speaker 5: think that's the brilliant part of it I think it's
- 58:11Speaker 5: just no one.
- 58:11Speaker 1: Messing with this yeah yeah It's very masturbatory when you
- 58:16Speaker 1: think about it.
- 58:18Speaker 6: Well, again, it's him just toying with an.
- 58:21Speaker 5: Audience for an hour and a half or two hours
- 58:24Speaker 5: or whatever it is. It's just like, how long can
- 58:26Speaker 5: I string them along and all of this is bullshit?
- 58:29Speaker 1: Maybe possibly. Well, he's had me for 10 years now,
- 58:32Speaker 1: so believing there is actually a conclusion.
- 58:35Speaker 6: Yeah, which, again, it is, but it's kind of like,
- 58:38Speaker 6: choose your own adventure.
- 58:40Speaker 1: Which way do you.
- 58:40Speaker 5: Want it to end?
- 58:41Speaker 1: Is it all real?
- 58:42Speaker 6: Is it not real? Is the whole thing bullshit?
- 58:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 58:45Speaker 1: I mean, all I know is that Michael Caine always lives.
- 58:49Speaker 6: Oh, Alfred. Even though he wasn't Alfred in this movie.
- 58:52Speaker 5: The other guy was Alfred.
- 58:53Speaker 1: He was basically Alfred.
- 58:54Speaker 6: But he was kind of Alfred.
- 58:56Speaker 5: I just need an old guy to say wise things
- 58:58Speaker 5: to me all day.
- 58:59Speaker 6: Can I get that, please?
- 59:00Speaker 1: Master Wayne.
- 59:00Speaker 5: At least he doesn't cry at the end of this one.
- 59:07Speaker 1: She was just a girl.
- 59:09Speaker 6: And he saw him at the cafe.
- 59:10Speaker 1: Oh, my God. Anyway.
- 59:13Speaker 5: So that was, yeah. By the end, it's like, I
- 59:16Speaker 5: guess if there's anything to take away from it, whether
- 59:18Speaker 5: there's magic or not, whether anything, it's like, is your
- 59:22Speaker 5: legacy worth dying for? Like, in the end, is anybody
- 59:25Speaker 5: really the winner in this little one-upsmanship?
- 59:27Speaker 1: Yeah. really makes you rethink a career in comedy.
- 59:30Speaker 5: Yeah, well, you know, magic, comedy. That was something I
- 59:35Speaker 5: was like, as you picked this, I was like, is
- 59:37Speaker 5: there an aspect to that that you definitely have to
- 59:40Speaker 5: be a showman to some extent? Do you take anything
- 59:43Speaker 5: from this on that level of like, just because everything
- 59:46Speaker 5: about this, the movie included, is a show. It's all
- 59:49Speaker 5: about impressing the audience to some extent and keeping them
- 59:54Speaker 5: sort of anticipating what's coming next.
- 59:56Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I... I mean, it just makes me think,
- 59:58Speaker 1: would I make my brother cut his fingers off to
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: make sure my act is still funny?
- 1:00:04Speaker 6: If he was committed?
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Yeah, if he's a good fucking brother. Damn it.
- 1:00:09Speaker 6: Let's get him on the phone now and ask him.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: I'll call him.
- 1:00:13Speaker 6: Dude, don't ask any questions. We're taking your fingers off.
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: Hey.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: Okay, yeah.
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: Hey, give me them fingers.
- 1:00:18Speaker 6: Do I get paid?
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: I'm doing a feature weekend at the Improv.
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: I mean, people would pay to see that. It's more
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: of a jackass show, really, than anything else.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: It's not even for any reason. We both have all
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: our fingers.
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: Yeah, you have them all to begin with. It really
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: is just jackass.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: I just need them fingers.
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: I bet we can't take these two fingers off. Give
- 1:00:38Speaker 6: me a chisel.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: I'm Johnny Knoxville. I'm Johnny Knoxville, and this is fingers. Oh, Lord.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: So, I guess that's most of it. Have we addressed everything?
- 1:00:51Speaker 7: Oh, man.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: Again, there's so much that we can't get to, really. Yeah,
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: there's so much to this movie that I don't. know
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: that I even understand, especially because I'm going off my
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: memory of the movie.
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: Which is also shoddy.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it is.
- 1:01:09Speaker 6: I know why it is. And I just watched it.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: Of the 10 to 15 times that I've seen this movie.
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: It takes repeat viewings.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't... Honestly, I don't remember. Even immediately after
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: I've seen the movie, I'm like, what the fuck just.
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: I think that's part of the weird time frame and
- 1:01:29Speaker 5: the looping around and the fact that everybody's telling a
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: weird story. And, again, it's all just unreliable.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Yeah. And who is Scarlett Johansson, really?
- 1:01:42Speaker 6: Is there a Scarlett Johansson?
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: In real life, who is she? I don't know.
- 1:01:45Speaker 6: I'd like to find out. Scarlett, if you could call me.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: Hey, hit me up, Scarlett.
- 1:01:49Speaker 5: You can come on the show is what we'll say
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: to get me in the door.
- 1:01:53Speaker 6: But whatever.
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Black Widow.
- 1:01:56Speaker 5: Today, when I was thinking about it, I was like,
- 1:01:57Speaker 5: if my geek thing kicks in, it's just, this is
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: Batman v.
- 1:02:01Speaker 6: Wolverine.
- 1:02:02Speaker 5: And they're both fighting over Black Widow.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: And that weird villain dude from Black Panther is in there.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: What if this is all part of the Marvel Universe?
- 1:02:12Speaker 6: I mean, essentially, well, DC, technically.
- 1:02:16Speaker 5: We've got the Batman director directing it.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: Yeah, but then we've got Wolverine.
- 1:02:19Speaker 5: Batman's there, Alfred's there. It's a little more on the
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: DC end of it.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess so.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: Shit.
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: Shit. But yeah, I forgot that Andy Serkis is the
- 1:02:28Speaker 5: little sidekick guy to Tesla, who's now going to be
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: the new villain in Black Panther.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: So I was like, it's got a.
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: Whole superhero villain thing going on here.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: Yeah, it's almost like Hollywood is a very limited workplace.
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: It's almost like they give the same people all the
- 1:02:43Speaker 5: jobs over and over.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: Yeah. How'd you like to be in my movies for
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: the rest of your life, Andy?
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: If you look like Scarlett Johansson, you can do that.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:53Speaker 6: Doesn't really matter. And luckily, she's turned in good performances.
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: I keep, again, I keep kind of congratulating her because
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: I think everybody sold her short in the beginning because
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: she's just hot, but you know.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: Well, okay, look.
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: As time's gone on.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: I think she was great in Mean Girls. No, she
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: was not in Mean Girls. Who am I thinking of?
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: Lindsay Lohan?
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no, no, no. No, she was, Honestly,
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: scratch that from the record. She was not... Fix it
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: in post.
- 1:03:23Speaker 6: I mean, to me, I think from the beginning, like,
- 1:03:25Speaker 6: Ghost World, she's great.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: Rachel McAdams is who I'm thinking of.
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: There we go.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: She... Honestly, forget Scarlett Johansson. Let's talk about Rachel McAdams.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: I loved her in this movie. Wonderfully. Wait, maybe that's
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: the illusionist.
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: We're getting confused.
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: Honestly, I've lost... I've lost everything.
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: That's what this movie does to you. It ruins your mind.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. So anyway, Rachel McAdams is great.
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: Rachel, if you'd like to come on the show, we'll
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: bring you back, and Rachel can come on, and we
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: can discuss her thoughts on this movie that she wasn't in.
- 1:03:58Speaker 6: We'd like to ask you about that movie you're in.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: Rachel McAdams, how do you feel about that movie with
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: someone who kind of looks like you?
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: I mean, that is kind of my favorite thing to do,
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: as you noticed. I will bring on people that are
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: in movies, and I'll be like, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:04:10Speaker 5: None of the ones you're in.
- 1:04:11Speaker 6: That's bullshit. You talk about the ones you're in all
- 1:04:14Speaker 6: the damn time. Pick another movie.
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: Let's talk about that one.
- 1:04:17Speaker 6: To me, that's way more interesting than anything.
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: Yes, Rachel McAdams and Scarlett Johansson, you're both invited on
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: to talk about a movie you're not in.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: My number is 347.
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: Well, definitely, you're invited back to join me.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Just tweet at me.
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: I need a full-time co-host anyway, so we're just going to...
- 1:04:37Speaker 5: You've got to commute in every week.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, I'll do it. I'm down. I'll be there.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: I'm fine with it.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: I will be there.
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: Well, speaking of your commuting, are you in the middle of,
- 1:04:50Speaker 5: to round it out and give people more of a
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: way to find you comedy-wise, are you in the middle
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: of a tour, or are you constantly on tour, or
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: how does.
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: It work these days?
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: We're at the tail end of a week-long tour. I
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: guess this is our second-to-last show tonight. Gallery K in Louisville,
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: if you're listening in a week and you want to
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: come back in time and see the show tonight.
- 1:05:16Speaker 6: Just come hang out at Gallery K.
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: They're awesome. Tomorrow we'll be in Knoxville at Sawworks Brewing Company.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: We're doing a little You missed that one too. Yeah.
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: Sorry guys. Sorry I'm quitting comedy after Friday. So if
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: you're listening to this.
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: If you were where would you tell them to go
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: on the internet to find out where you're going to be?
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: Oh yeah. I'm on Twitter Instagram everything as at Professor
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: Doye which is Professor D-O-Y-E. I host a show called
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: Rent Party, which will be released as a podcast soon. Oh, podcasts.
- 1:05:53Speaker 6: Those things.
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:05:54Speaker 6: Don't let anybody have one of those.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: No, no. You don't need it. Don't listen to it. Honestly,
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: it's garbage. It's going to be bad.
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: Well, I recommend it.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: He hasn't heard it yet. Nobody listened to him. They don't. Otherwise...
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: You can find me on Venmo. Send me whatever money
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: you got.
- 1:06:18Speaker 6: I keep playing that game, too.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: Yeah. Google Wallet works, too. It's easier.
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: Do you have aspirations to do something more than comedy? Because, again,
- 1:06:31Speaker 6: that used to be the old game was you get
- 1:06:33Speaker 6: into stand-up so you can get a sitcom.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: They don't really do that exactly anymore, but sometimes it
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: accidentally happens.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: Yeah, well, it's hard to say because... I feel like
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: I do a few things. I've acted a little bit.
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: I was in theater and all that nonsense. I love
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: to sing and just generally participate in music. Not necessarily
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: write because I'm not that great at it. I think
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: I just want to.
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: I basically want to follow Donald Glover's career path without
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: anyone ever actually saying that.
- 1:07:08Speaker 6: I mean, we should all be so lucky.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:11Speaker 5: If we could all be super talented in every avenue
- 1:07:14Speaker 5: we go down, that'd be really nice for us.
- 1:07:18Speaker 6: So far, you seem to be doing pretty good.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: Hey, I am not. Hey, Reggie Watts, call me. That's
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: all I want. That's what I'm saying.
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: I want to be on his new show. Yeah, whatever.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: I'd love to have him on my show. I feel
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: like he'd be great. I mean, it's basically what he
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: does with his pen. Except I'm not as good at it.
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: The hell you say.
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: I say it.
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: I mean it.
- 1:07:43Speaker 5: Alright, so they should go and find you on the internet.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: Yeah, find me on the internet.
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: Look for you out in the world and come see.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: Yeah, my Chase Bank routing number is.
- 1:07:53Speaker 5: We'll need your social security as well.
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: Yeah, just deposit a couple bucks in my account whenever
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: you feel like it.
- 1:08:02Speaker 5: After you Stop by mine and give me some. Just
- 1:08:05Speaker 5: spread it around, people.
- 1:08:05Speaker 6: That's all we're saying.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: Yeah, spread the love. I'm all about a basic income
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: for all the people. We've been talking about that for
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: a while.
- 1:08:12Speaker 5: Yeah, making money doing anything semi-entertainment oriented is rough. Yeah.
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: Hey, look. Everything is going to be automated in a
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: few years. Professional sports are not going to be necessary.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: We'll have video games and everything.
- 1:08:26Speaker 5: I was hoping robots competing against each other.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: That would be amazing.
- 1:08:30Speaker 5: Speaking of Hugh Jackman, boxing robots is really all I
- 1:08:33Speaker 5: am asking for. Is that too much to ask? Battle
- 1:08:35Speaker 5: bots all day long.
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: Exactly. Who's going to make those?
- 1:08:40Speaker 5: Kids in other countries?
- 1:08:42Speaker 6: Isn't that usually how we do it? We outsource ourselves
- 1:08:45Speaker 6: to another country and small five-year-old little nimble hands.
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: Put that shit together for us.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty much.
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: God bless America.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: And then they grow up to be on Spike TV
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: and forgotten bit parts.
- 1:08:58Speaker 5: It all comes together.
- 1:09:02Speaker 6: Well, thank you for being on the show.
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: Hey, of course. Thanks for having me.
- 1:09:04Speaker 6: Thank you to Gallery K for letting us loiter around here.
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: Thanks, y'all.
- 1:09:08Speaker 5: Hang out on the patio.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: Yeah. Come see the show in a couple hours.
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: Yeah. Otherwise, they are galleryk.net. So go there and see
- 1:09:17Speaker 5: what they've got in the works because obviously they put
- 1:09:19Speaker 5: awesome stuff together. So support Gallery K as well. They
- 1:09:22Speaker 5: need your love and money too.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: Hey, support yourself too.
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: There you go.
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: Hey, always remember to put your own mask on before
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: assisting others.
- 1:09:30Speaker 5: Get a job. You can't give anybody else any money
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: until you get a job.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: Just saying.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: Support yourself so you can give everyone else money.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: So you can support me.
- 1:09:39Speaker 6: That's how the world works.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Pretty much.
- 1:09:43Speaker 5: On that note, I guess we should wrap it up. Yeah.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:09:46Speaker 5: Otherwise, that about does it.
- 1:09:47Speaker 6: We will return next time. Same geek feed.
- 1:09:49Speaker 5: Thanks for listening.
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: I can make the pain disappear And I can erase
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: the past I can make the future shine so bright
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: And I can make right now all right.
- 1:10:25Speaker 7: I got it. You got it.
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: We got the magic.

- 1:10:40Speaker 7: You got it.
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: We got the magic. All I got is concrete all
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: around me. But I can see the countryside. You can
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: be rich when you're poor, poor when you're rich. It
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: can be rated, and I can make the sun shine.
- 1:11:01Speaker 7: I got it. You got it. We got the magic, yeah.
- 1:11:06Speaker 7: I got it. You know you got it, baby. We

- 1:11:15Speaker 4: I got it.
- 1:11:16Speaker 7: We got the magic, yeah.
- 1:11:19Speaker 5: I know sometimes, sometimes you feel no hope.
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: Well, I've been there.
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: I've walked that lonely road.
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: I took whatever.
- 1:11:30Speaker 7: Death would offer me Because I knew that he would
- 1:11:34Speaker 7: set me free I got it, you got it We
- 1:11:40Speaker 7: got the magic, yeah I got it, you got it

- 1:12:09Speaker 4: up in a paradise.
- 1:12:13Speaker 7: We got that magic. We got that magic. We got
- 1:12:18Speaker 7: the magic.

- 1:13:09Speaker 5: Get out of here.
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: No.
- 1:13:11Speaker 5: No.
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: No.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: Just us boys.
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: Y'all are nice.
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: You too, man. I just want to play with him
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: for a while.
- 1:13:22Speaker 5: All right.
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: I'm going to go in and holler at him.
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: Okay.
