- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey guys, welcome back to Wisecracks. John Orondo, Bill Krackenberger.
- 0:04Speaker 1: We have Derek Stevens, and I've been promising him come
- 0:06Speaker 1: on to let us know about what's going on in
- 0:09Speaker 1: this contest. Derek, thanks for coming on.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Appreciate it. Sorry I missed you last week. I'm getting ready.
- 0:14Speaker 2: My daughter's getting married here at the end of August,
- 0:16Speaker 2: so she's got a couple of events going. So I
- 0:19Speaker 2: got tied up. But I'm glad to be here. I'm
- 0:20Speaker 2: honored to be here.
- 0:21Speaker 3: I didn't know you had kids old enough to be married.
- 0:24Speaker 2: That's right. My son got married in April. Okay, my
- 0:27Speaker 2: youngest is getting married in August. So I got I
- 0:30Speaker 2: got a two team parlay in the summer at twenty six.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Wow, you have an expensive year. Yeah, well great, great. Listen.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Everyone wants to know about Circus Survivor.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I'm a guy that likes millions. I like the value.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I like using overlay a little bit. I like to
- 0:47Speaker 1: make a little more maybe a little more strategy involved
- 0:50Speaker 1: with the picking, but some strategy involved in Survivor too,
- 0:54Speaker 1: But we know there's a lot of luck involved in both.
- 0:57Speaker 1: What is the current pace compared to last year. Are
- 1:00Speaker 1: we going to reach these guarantees this year?
- 1:02Speaker 2: Well, you know, I I obviously want to want to
- 1:05Speaker 2: want to hit six million in Circle million, right.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:08Speaker 2: The reason it is, I don't want to take the
- 1:10Speaker 2: hit and cover cover the overlay to cover the last
- 1:13Speaker 2: couple of years, a couple of years. But I but
- 1:15Speaker 2: I feel pretty good right now that we're pacing above
- 1:18Speaker 2: the six million. I'm gonna put a pitch in for
- 1:21Speaker 2: Circle million. You'll you'll like this.
- 1:24Speaker 5: I think it.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I think this is you know, obviously a contest we
- 1:27Speaker 2: take no break, but I think this is a very
- 1:30Speaker 2: positive ev contest. So here's the reason. We're gonna take
- 1:33Speaker 2: a million two out of that six million, and that
- 1:36Speaker 2: goes into the quarters. Anything over six million, it's going
- 1:42Speaker 2: into the quarters. So at a minimum twenty percent of
- 1:46Speaker 2: the price, well maybe more if we go over, goes
- 1:48Speaker 2: into the quarters. And why this is important is because
- 1:52Speaker 2: you're gonna see a lot of people as the season
- 1:55Speaker 2: goes on, fade away from putting picks in. So let's
- 1:58Speaker 2: just say, you know how we always talk about this
- 2:00Speaker 2: no pick scenario. Sure, so let's say on opening week,
- 2:04Speaker 2: maybe we have a couple hundred people with no picks,
- 2:07Speaker 2: not a six million. Okay, that's a three percent advantage,
- 2:11Speaker 2: you know, right there. On an EV perspective, that also
- 2:15Speaker 2: has an impact on the quarter. But then as the
- 2:17Speaker 2: quarters go on, by the time you get to the
- 2:19Speaker 2: third quarter, maybe you're only going to have seventy five
- 2:22Speaker 2: percent of other people put picks in. By the fourth quarter,
- 2:25Speaker 2: maybe sixty percent. So when you think about each quarter
- 2:28Speaker 2: is worth five percent and then all of a sudden
- 2:31Speaker 2: only seventy five percent are going in, well's that's another
- 2:34Speaker 2: one point two five percent of EV right there, and
- 2:37Speaker 2: a little bit more in the fourth. So I view
- 2:39Speaker 2: this contest between the no picks and then there's people
- 2:42Speaker 2: maybe lose interest towards the end. Effectively, we're probably looking
- 2:46Speaker 2: at a probably a positive six percent seven percent EV
- 2:51Speaker 2: and that doesn't even matter how big it gets. So
- 2:53Speaker 2: I think with the EV guys, circum million is where
- 2:56Speaker 2: you got to focus.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Like I said in the beginning, especially with the saying
- 3:00Speaker 1: is people forget to put picks in. But even if
- 3:03Speaker 1: you put picks in and you start out bad doing
- 3:05Speaker 1: you know, maybe you're zero to ten the first ten weeks.
- 3:07Speaker 1: The first two weeks you say, oh, this contest, I'm
- 3:10Speaker 1: dead and then maybe after the first quarter or second
- 3:12Speaker 1: quarter you lose interest. Well, there's still contests within the contest, right,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and that's what brings them in. And by the way,
- 3:19Speaker 1: something we didn't mention in these contests.
- 3:24Speaker 3: You get a free hat. No, no, something we didn't mention.
- 3:26Speaker 1: No, you do get a free at, but no rake,
- 3:29Speaker 1: no rake, that's the biggest thing.
- 3:31Speaker 3: No rake contest.
- 3:32Speaker 1: One of my questions and I usually never I'm usually spontaneous,
- 3:36Speaker 1: but I even wrote down, how do you continue to
- 3:38Speaker 1: do this year after year with no rake? Because I'm thinking, yes,
- 3:44Speaker 1: it does bring a lot of foot traffic and people
- 3:46Speaker 1: come in sign up, they stay at CIRCA. But it
- 3:49Speaker 1: still cost you, guys a lot of money to put
- 3:52Speaker 1: these on.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Am I saying the right thing?
- 3:53Speaker 1: And it would cost you a lot of money for
- 3:55Speaker 1: someone just your system and to maintain and people that
- 3:58Speaker 1: are involved.
- 3:59Speaker 3: It does cost more.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I think. I think sometimes people don't understand the
- 4:04Speaker 2: cost of the cost of putting a contest on like that.
- 4:08Speaker 2: You know, when we first started this with no rake,
- 4:11Speaker 2: we kind of thought, well, that's kind of a different approach,
- 4:14Speaker 2: But then I really thought, you know, the rake A
- 4:17Speaker 2: lot of people when you're playing it, you get worried
- 4:20Speaker 2: about their rate, and we thought, okay, this would be
- 4:22Speaker 2: a good marketing plan. What a lot of people don't understand,
- 4:26Speaker 2: whether we had a rake or not, that's a small
- 4:29Speaker 2: percentage of what a cost to run the contest, right right,
- 4:31Speaker 2: you know recently, you know, it's a little new competition
- 4:34Speaker 2: online this year, and they got an eight percent rake
- 4:38Speaker 2: on the contest. I don't think they understand it cost
- 4:41Speaker 2: us seven million dollars to run these contests.
- 4:44Speaker 3: I didn't that much.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean we've a massive loser. So like to me,
- 4:49Speaker 2: I'm wondering, why would somebody else want to do this
- 4:51Speaker 2: unless you have a different way of monetizing it. It
- 4:53Speaker 2: doesn't make sense to me. Plus, you know, I mean,
- 4:55Speaker 2: think about the advertiser we're doing with the San Diego Padre,
- 4:58Speaker 2: We're with the Chicago Cup, Chicago White Sox. We have
- 5:02Speaker 2: all the radio we got forty different radio stations across
- 5:05Speaker 2: the country. We fund a docu series about the whole series. Yeah,
- 5:09Speaker 2: you know you and then and then we got and
- 5:11Speaker 2: then we've got all of all the compliance costs and
- 5:14Speaker 2: all the million customers. So yeah, this year, this year,
- 5:18Speaker 2: it'll probably cost us about seven million dollars to run
- 5:20Speaker 2: our contest. So that's a long way to answer your question.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Is it worth it. Yeah, we still think it's worth it.
- 5:26Speaker 2: But but obviously the obviously for us, the key thing
- 5:30Speaker 2: is getting people to serve because what happens is, you know,
- 5:34Speaker 2: over the course of over the course of let's say
- 5:38Speaker 2: the month of August and the first uh, the first
- 5:41Speaker 2: two weeks of September, we're probably gonna pick up an
- 5:45Speaker 2: extra two million dollars of food revenue. We're gonna pick
- 5:48Speaker 2: up an extra you know, I you know, I could
- 5:51Speaker 2: say two million dollars a hotel of revenue. But a
- 5:54Speaker 2: lot of this is comp revenue. But when you get
- 5:57Speaker 2: the we get the players in, what are they gonna do. Well, yeah,
- 6:00Speaker 2: they're gonna get a comper room, but maybe they're gonna
- 6:02Speaker 2: you know, they get the free entry to stadium swim,
- 6:04Speaker 2: but maybe they're gonna want to ball out. They're gonna
- 6:06Speaker 2: take it. They're gonna take a commander for five thousand.
- 6:09Speaker 2: So when you think about the impact in the stadium swim,
- 6:12Speaker 2: that's probably worth an extra million to a million five
- 6:16Speaker 2: throughout the course of the summer. Then you start thinking about, okay, well,
- 6:20Speaker 2: what about beverage, Well, beverage is a significant part of it.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Bars and then and then you know, we haven't even
- 6:26Speaker 2: started talking about the gambling side. You know, people that
- 6:30Speaker 2: buy ten entries into Circa Circa survivor Circle millions, they
- 6:34Speaker 2: have a high perpensive and you maybe hit a blackjack
- 6:37Speaker 2: table and then you know you're always sitting around a bar,
- 6:40Speaker 2: your little video poker. And then guess what, it's some
- 6:44Speaker 2: big chunk of our futures be in here. When people
- 6:47Speaker 2: are coming into these contests, what do they also do, Hey,
- 6:49Speaker 2: give me, give me twenty five thousand on the Chiefs
- 6:51Speaker 2: to win the super Bowl. I want a letter and
- 6:54Speaker 2: I want twenty five thousand Chiefs the division. She's the
- 6:56Speaker 2: conference chief the super Bowl. And the next thing, you know,
- 6:59Speaker 2: the guy from Buffalo those same thing, twenty five thousand
- 7:01Speaker 2: across the board. You know. So those are the elements
- 7:04Speaker 2: that come in. And then for us to take it
- 7:08Speaker 2: to the next step is that we get to meet
- 7:10Speaker 2: a lot of customers that would have walked into our place.
- 7:13Speaker 2: And when they walk in, many of them might like it.
- 7:15Speaker 2: They might be they might be Bellagio customers, or they
- 7:18Speaker 2: could be are you customers, They could be Caesar's Palace.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Customers win customers, and they come down here and like,
- 7:25Speaker 2: oh we like it. Whether they ever end up coming
- 7:27Speaker 2: to staying here down the road, maybe maybe not, but
- 7:30Speaker 2: you know, they might be coming back in October for
- 7:33Speaker 2: a college football weekend. They may be coming out for
- 7:36Speaker 2: Super wild Card weekend. So this contest has some legs
- 7:39Speaker 2: to it that has impact. You know, I don't look
- 7:42Speaker 2: at this like what's the cost to run the contest,
- 7:45Speaker 2: you know, that's the one thing, but it's it's how
- 7:48Speaker 2: we develop customers and how our casino hosts get to
- 7:51Speaker 2: develop these relationships, how these relationships get developed with these proxies.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I mean, this is all part of this ecosystem. So yeah,
- 7:58Speaker 2: for us to run the contest year kind of we
- 8:01Speaker 2: looked at them like between the advertising. Now I do
- 8:04Speaker 2: get the ability to put the foot on my foot
- 8:06Speaker 2: on the gas every now and then, I mean, you know,
- 8:08Speaker 2: you gotta you gotta, you gotta go go to the
- 8:11Speaker 2: gas station. You get a little advertisement right there. You
- 8:13Speaker 2: gotta right, so we can add or some practice, we
- 8:15Speaker 2: get closer, you know, electronic billboard throughout towns.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Like the airport coming.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Then you get hit with you know, so you can't
- 8:23Speaker 1: get into Vegas without saying it.
- 8:25Speaker 5: So I don't have a fix.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I don't have a fixed cost, but I would say
- 8:27Speaker 2: seven million, give or take. Usually I add a little
- 8:30Speaker 2: more at the end of booster. But yeah, that's what
- 8:32Speaker 2: it costs us to run. Then run the contest.
- 8:34Speaker 3: How about how transparent?
- 8:37Speaker 1: It's great transparent these big corporations that branding, you.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Know the value.
- 8:43Speaker 4: It's like you said earlier, you said, there's the contest
- 8:45Speaker 4: within the contest. You basically created the season within the season.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Like you already know you're gonna be busy football season
- 8:52Speaker 4: just by the nature of football season.
- 8:53Speaker 6: But now it's like you own football.
- 8:55Speaker 4: Season when you do something like this for all those
- 8:57Speaker 4: reasons you just mentioned, it's really it's it's genius. But
- 9:00Speaker 4: you've always been a visionary, I mean to I told
- 9:03Speaker 4: you the first time you were on wisecracks with us
- 9:05Speaker 4: a few years ago.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Like I thought, but before I ever.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Met you, I thought you were crazy for building this downtown.
- 9:13Speaker 6: I was like, that's never gonna work.
- 9:15Speaker 4: I couldn't have been more wrong, Like you literally made
- 9:19Speaker 4: downtown what it is.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Well, you know, for us, I always think of business,
- 9:25Speaker 2: no matter what business you're in. Could be a restaurant,
- 9:27Speaker 2: could be it could be software development, it could be
- 9:31Speaker 2: Casito hospital. You gotta focus in on and you gotta
- 9:35Speaker 2: know your customer, and then you got to focus on
- 9:38Speaker 2: the customer. You could be wrong. I mean, business is tough,
- 9:42Speaker 2: but if you focus on one thing and you focus
- 9:44Speaker 2: on the customer and you try to come up with
- 9:47Speaker 2: an experience that a customer would or want, I think
- 9:51Speaker 2: you're going down the right path for me. You know,
- 9:54Speaker 2: I'm not an art guy. I'm not cultured in that manner,
- 10:00Speaker 2: so I wanted to stay the hell out of that.
- 10:02Speaker 2: But I love sports. I love sports gambling. I've been
- 10:05Speaker 2: coming here since I've since I've been under twenty one,
- 10:09Speaker 2: and we all were and you know, for me, I
- 10:14Speaker 2: always thought about those moments in my life that impacted me,
- 10:17Speaker 2: Like that moment I walked in to Caesar's Palace the
- 10:20Speaker 2: first time at that sports book, I go, WHOA, that's
- 10:23Speaker 2: that's ingreat. That's a memory I'll never be the first
- 10:26Speaker 2: time I walked into the Las Vegas Hilton, I thought,
- 10:29Speaker 2: oh my god, the greatest joint I ever seen. It's unbelievable.
- 10:32Speaker 2: And I wanted to create something that would attract people.
- 10:36Speaker 2: And I thought, well, you know, we're not going to
- 10:38Speaker 2: have eight thousand hotel rooms here, so I'm not going
- 10:41Speaker 2: to compete on hotel rooms. I don't have the money
- 10:43Speaker 2: to do that. I don't really want to do that.
- 10:46Speaker 2: But I wanted to create something that was best in class,
- 10:49Speaker 2: that attracted a demographic of people that were somewhat like minded.
- 10:53Speaker 2: And I know when people come to Vegas, a lot
- 10:55Speaker 2: of them are very very loyal to Caesar's properties. Maybe
- 10:59Speaker 2: there's a Caesar's property of their hometown, so they got
- 11:01Speaker 2: all the points they're gonna stay. See, maybe there's people
- 11:04Speaker 2: that are loyal to MGM properties. Maybe there's people that
- 11:06Speaker 2: are loyal to win property. Maybe there's people that are
- 11:09Speaker 2: loyal to their Hiatt points or their Hilton points or
- 11:12Speaker 2: their Mariatt they're bonvoid points, They're gonna stay somewhere else.
- 11:16Speaker 2: So let's not focus on the hotel component, but let's
- 11:19Speaker 2: focus in on a subset of the hotel there's one
- 11:22Speaker 2: hundred and sixty thousand hotel rooms in Vegas. A certain
- 11:25Speaker 2: presentatives of those people that are gonna be in those
- 11:27Speaker 2: rooms tonight are big time sports fans. And if you're
- 11:31Speaker 2: big time sports fans. Wouldn't you want to come out
- 11:33Speaker 2: and see the world's largest sports book. So I'm really
- 11:36Speaker 2: trying to take you know, a few people from every place,
- 11:39Speaker 2: even Airbnb's whatever stuff. And this is a great place
- 11:42Speaker 2: if you love sports, you love math, you love numbers,
- 11:45Speaker 2: you love gambling. This is why I wanted to attract.
- 11:47Speaker 1: And you're here every Sunday watching the games too, even
- 11:51Speaker 1: though Sunday is usually a day off for most executives people,
- 11:54Speaker 1: but you are during the season though you're kind of
- 11:57Speaker 1: here most of the Sundays.
- 11:58Speaker 5: I love it.
- 11:58Speaker 2: I love it. I mean, I mean, and the way
- 12:00Speaker 2: things are going, I might be here even more. I'm here.
- 12:02Speaker 2: I'm here a lot, but but I mean this streaming
- 12:05Speaker 2: stuffs for the birds bill, right, I'm telling you, I
- 12:09Speaker 2: got to see every gate, right. You know, you know
- 12:12Speaker 2: this this thing and going on. You like this change,
- 12:15Speaker 2: I mean, you know you're flipping back. It's I mean,
- 12:18Speaker 2: this is like one of those things that's new and improved,
- 12:20Speaker 2: but actually it's new and worse, you know, in the
- 12:23Speaker 2: old days. I mean, I think we all love Sunday ticket,
- 12:26Speaker 2: we all love the reds be able to watch all
- 12:29Speaker 2: the I gotta watch all the gates. I don't want
- 12:31Speaker 2: to have I don't want to have any buffering, and
- 12:33Speaker 2: that and the latency shot me crazy. I'm watching my
- 12:37Speaker 2: phone all the time. I cannot deal with a sixty
- 12:40Speaker 2: five second ninety second late are you kidding? And that's
- 12:44Speaker 2: just terrible.
- 12:45Speaker 1: It is that long. It is that long of delay,
- 12:47Speaker 1: and uh, you know, where else can you go? I
- 12:50Speaker 1: said this multiple times on all my platforms. I just
- 12:53Speaker 1: talked about this on Fox Sports Radio. I talked about
- 12:55Speaker 1: you a couple of weeks go on Fox Sports Radio.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I said, where else can you go? Go into a
- 13:00Speaker 1: casino and say.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Hello to the owner.
- 13:02Speaker 1: He's happy to shake your hand, Bring you in, Come
- 13:05Speaker 1: to the bar, the bar, right, come to the bar.
- 13:06Speaker 3: I just said it for sometimes Berry's dinner. And yeah, no,
- 13:11Speaker 3: it's just so cool. And there's just not there's not
- 13:13Speaker 3: a lot.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Of old school vibes and old school transparent people. You
- 13:18Speaker 1: just said so much stuff that you didn't have to
- 13:20Speaker 1: say how much you spend on this?
- 13:21Speaker 2: This?
- 13:21Speaker 5: This?
- 13:22Speaker 1: People want to know this. I've been asked this the
- 13:23Speaker 1: multitude the time. I've been saving this question. When can
- 13:27Speaker 1: they play these contests at your other casinos outside of Nevada?
- 13:33Speaker 3: Now? That's going to take a lot.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I guess I might even violate the sixty one wiret.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I don't know how how these how these contests work.
- 13:42Speaker 1: When are is circa When when is the survivor going
- 13:45Speaker 1: to be maybe more of a national contest?
- 13:47Speaker 3: Are you shooting for that? That may be very costly too.
- 13:51Speaker 2: So so let me answer you your last question first,
- 13:54Speaker 2: All right, are we shooting for a national contest? I
- 13:58Speaker 2: would tell you the answer to that is it depends.
- 14:02Speaker 2: It depends on the regulatory environment, and it depends on
- 14:05Speaker 2: the story. If we were to offer any of our
- 14:10Speaker 2: football contests out of state where people could register remotely, yes,
- 14:16Speaker 2: I already said what it costs to run these things, Well,
- 14:19Speaker 2: there's going to be a rate on it. You got
- 14:20Speaker 2: to pay for We run a no rate contest by
- 14:23Speaker 2: and our business model. I gave you all the different
- 14:27Speaker 2: benefits we have of having people come here. So if
- 14:29Speaker 2: we were to do something where you can sign up
- 14:31Speaker 2: in Illinois or Kentucky or in the future in Arizona,
- 14:34Speaker 2: things like that, it would depend. So is that a goal?
- 14:40Speaker 2: Not necessarily, but it depends on how the regulatory environment
- 14:44Speaker 2: shakes out. I would also say that based upon our
- 14:47Speaker 2: legal console. We are of the belief is still not legal,
- 14:52Speaker 2: and because we have a gaming license sure in six
- 14:56Speaker 2: jurisdictions seven coming up early next you're in Arizona. Huh.
- 15:02Speaker 2: I don't want to risk our our gaming license because
- 15:06Speaker 2: we currently believe doing that is not legal. There's a
- 15:10Speaker 2: couple of lawyers that have put out some white papers
- 15:12Speaker 2: that say it's legal, but it's never been tested. And
- 15:15Speaker 2: I'm certainly not going to risk that because I don't believe.
- 15:20Speaker 2: I don't believe that to be a legal scenario today
- 15:23Speaker 2: for multiple reasons.
- 15:24Speaker 3: I got you, I got you. John, We've taken enough
- 15:27Speaker 3: of his time here.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Well, I have one quick question.
- 15:29Speaker 4: Uh, you know, I play a lot of poker, played
- 15:32Speaker 4: just got done playing a World Series of Poker for
- 15:34Speaker 4: this whole summer. Michaels I got Bill back into the
- 15:37Speaker 4: poker scene.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Last year he played the he played the senior event.
- 15:40Speaker 6: This year he played the main event.
- 15:42Speaker 4: What do we gotta do to get you to play
- 15:44Speaker 4: either the senior event or the He's not.
- 15:46Speaker 2: A senior yet, I'm a senior, right, I'll take whatever
- 15:50Speaker 2: advantage I got right or the main event next year?
- 15:54Speaker 2: Can it happen?
- 15:55Speaker 6: Would you ever do it?
- 15:56Speaker 2: I would tell you a I don't know how to
- 16:01Speaker 2: play poker. Okay, yeah, I will tell you I don't
- 16:06Speaker 2: know how to play poker. Like everybody asked, I, do
- 16:08Speaker 2: you not know how to play poker? I go, well,
- 16:10Speaker 2: so many like I enjoy it. I've played. I've played
- 16:16Speaker 2: in two games in in the last two years. Both
- 16:19Speaker 2: were charity events, Greg Mannox's event that we do we
- 16:23Speaker 2: do it here, so I get a seat at the
- 16:25Speaker 2: Greg Mannocks event. So I enjoy it. But I will
- 16:30Speaker 2: tell you, like I I needed help, you know, I
- 16:32Speaker 2: couldn't like I wasn't sure it was a straight better
- 16:35Speaker 2: than a flush or not.
- 16:37Speaker 5: That's kind of.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Where so that's kind of my love. Can I do it?
- 16:42Speaker 2: For the social aspect, I enjoy watching these arrivals at
- 16:48Speaker 2: the main event. Wherever I would get posted or whatever
- 16:52Speaker 2: table I would at, I would be considered a lamb.
- 16:58Speaker 2: He has given it sacrifice to the other eight guys
- 17:00Speaker 2: at that opening table. But I would do it. I
- 17:02Speaker 2: would do it for a lot of fun. Yeah, well,
- 17:04Speaker 2: I would wear I would wear a logan.
- 17:06Speaker 3: You know.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Media Circuit were a kid, though you were in Michigan
- 17:12Speaker 1: as a kid, you guys didn't play poker games and
- 17:15Speaker 1: as a kid.
- 17:15Speaker 3: But first of all, did your dad allow gambling?
- 17:18Speaker 2: No? No, I uh, there was there was no poker
- 17:21Speaker 2: and there was no poker in my house. So there's
- 17:24Speaker 2: no poker within my friend's set. It was even when
- 17:27Speaker 2: I went to college. I think maybe I was of
- 17:32Speaker 2: the ear that was a little bit before the poker
- 17:35Speaker 2: it was. I was, I was out of college before
- 17:38Speaker 2: the money Maker, Like I went away. What was the
- 17:41Speaker 2: moneymaker year two thousand and two. Oh, yeah, I was.
- 17:44Speaker 4: I was way out of college like Rounders movie Rounds
- 17:47Speaker 4: came out, like nineteen ninety eight.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I was out of college. So I so poker wasn't.
- 17:53Speaker 2: I can tell you, I like we gambled on football.
- 17:56Speaker 2: I can tell you that every single guy in my
- 17:58Speaker 2: frateririty was betting on a game. All we were all
- 18:00Speaker 2: into that. But I can tell you I don't remember
- 18:05Speaker 2: anybody ever say hey, you want to play a poker game.
- 18:07Speaker 2: But just it wasn't a thing back in It wasn't
- 18:09Speaker 2: a thing back in the late eighties and early nineties.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Sports betting was though a little bit.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Sports betting it certainly was, I mean absolutely, but poker
- 18:18Speaker 2: just was never never. No, there's nothing against it, but nobody.
- 18:22Speaker 2: I would think, like, if I can take myself back
- 18:24Speaker 2: to here and say, hey, let's go play Texas, hold them,
- 18:26Speaker 2: I would bet very few people would have known the rules.
- 18:29Speaker 1: What was your business before these casinos?
- 18:33Speaker 3: What was your business before? People don't know?
- 18:35Speaker 1: But what did you do before you ventured into the
- 18:38Speaker 1: old Fitzgerald's right?
- 18:39Speaker 3: That was FitzGeralds.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Golden Gate was my first one.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Oh, Golden Gate.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Okay, two thousand and six, Golden in Vegas?
- 18:45Speaker 3: Twenty years Okay, what did you do with twenty five
- 18:47Speaker 3: years ago?
- 18:48Speaker 2: I ran an automotive manufacturing company in Detroit. Right, make
- 18:54Speaker 2: parts for cars.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Make parts for cars. You just decided to come out
- 18:56Speaker 3: to Vegas and take a shot.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Well, I made parts for cars, will make parts for cars,
- 19:01Speaker 2: So it's still a business I'm in. But I always
- 19:06Speaker 2: wanted to grow a business, and I i I really
- 19:10Speaker 2: came to love my automotive manufacturing business. But what I
- 19:15Speaker 2: love is I love taking a business and growing a business.
- 19:18Speaker 2: I love growing teams, building building up teams, growing growing businesses.
- 19:23Speaker 2: And I felt that to grow a business as quickly
- 19:29Speaker 2: as possible, I needed to go to a state that
- 19:32Speaker 2: didn't have an income tax, so so frankly I was,
- 19:37Speaker 2: I focused in on four States, and I knew I
- 19:41Speaker 2: wanted to keep my business on on auto parts of manufacturing.
- 19:46Speaker 2: I'm still the CEO of that company. I'm I'm it's
- 19:49Speaker 2: still it's a good, great, great business. But we plow
- 19:52Speaker 2: everything back into our businesses. And if we were paying
- 19:56Speaker 2: state income tax that allows that that reduces how much
- 20:00Speaker 2: you could put back into future businesses. So I looked
- 20:03Speaker 2: at I looked at four States. I looked at Alaska,
- 20:06Speaker 2: I looked at Nevada, I looked at Texas, and I
- 20:08Speaker 2: looked at at Florida. Florida was more real estate orientated,
- 20:12Speaker 2: and that didn't really excite me. Plus I didn't I
- 20:15Speaker 2: don't like the humidity Texas with great respect and reverence,
- 20:23Speaker 2: I thought. Man, at my age, I was in my
- 20:27Speaker 2: late thirties, I go, I did not grow up talking
- 20:31Speaker 2: about natural gas and oil at Thanksgiving dinner, and I
- 20:35Speaker 2: think you got to really start talking about like I thought,
- 20:38Speaker 2: I was a little too old to get into what
- 20:39Speaker 2: I considered to be a business that I didn't want
- 20:42Speaker 2: to go through the learning curve. There a last guy
- 20:45Speaker 2: I just thought was too far away and it's too
- 20:47Speaker 2: damn cold.
- 20:48Speaker 3: And even though you were in Michigan a little bit
- 20:51Speaker 3: too cold.
- 20:51Speaker 2: And then and then you know, it wasn't really our
- 20:54Speaker 2: decision because I'd been coming out to Vegas. Like I
- 20:57Speaker 2: said earlier, so before I was twenty one. I love Nevada.
- 21:01Speaker 2: I love the weather, I love the sunshine. I love
- 21:04Speaker 2: the people. I love I love the convention and the
- 21:09Speaker 2: hospitality element. And obviously I love sports, and I love gambling.
- 21:12Speaker 2: I love the events. I mean, to me, what I
- 21:14Speaker 2: what I find exciting. Whatever city you're in, whatever city
- 21:19Speaker 2: you're in on let's just say a Friday afternoon could
- 21:23Speaker 2: be coming out of New York. I've taken flights from
- 21:25Speaker 2: these cities coming into Vegas on Friday afternoons. I've done
- 21:29Speaker 2: it from uh I've done it from Newark. I've done
- 21:33Speaker 2: it from Atlanta. I've done it from Cincinnati. I've done
- 21:35Speaker 2: it from Minneapolis. I've done it from Seattle. I've done
- 21:37Speaker 2: it from San Francisco. I've done from San Diego, La Phoenix.
- 21:41Speaker 2: There's nothing like a Friday afternoon flight into Las Vegas.
- 21:47Speaker 2: When you're in that when you're in that fuselage, the
- 21:50Speaker 2: energy in the plane is it's different. It's different. Than
- 21:54Speaker 2: if you go to any other city in this country.
- 21:56Speaker 2: It's amazing. People are excited. And I just always felt
- 22:00Speaker 2: it myself coming from Detroit all the time. And you
- 22:03Speaker 2: remember one of the first few years I was out here,
- 22:05Speaker 2: my kids were still in high school. So I flew
- 22:08Speaker 2: back and forth every week for about four years to Detroit,
- 22:13Speaker 2: and there was something special about when you get on
- 22:16Speaker 2: that flight. You know that you could feel it. You
- 22:18Speaker 2: could it's a little bit different coming in. And when
- 22:20Speaker 2: you see the lights, you know, that's where these myths
- 22:22Speaker 2: all they add oxygen at casinos now it's everybody gets
- 22:25Speaker 2: all hyped though, because you're coming.
- 22:26Speaker 1: We talked about that in the last week's show, the
- 22:28Speaker 1: Myth of Oxygen, and you know, yeah, so and there is.
- 22:31Speaker 1: And then sometimes you fly back where I was flying
- 22:33Speaker 1: back to either New York, Newark or Philly, there's a
- 22:36Speaker 1: difference on the plane. It's quiet going back. My father
- 22:39Speaker 1: old school, he used to get so upset, almost tear up.
- 22:43Speaker 1: He didn't want to leave flying back to Nork. So
- 22:46Speaker 1: it is a big difference though, and uh, anything else
- 22:48Speaker 1: for Derek, we really appreciate it.
- 22:51Speaker 6: I have watch envy.
- 22:54Speaker 5: Oh it's amazing.
- 22:55Speaker 2: I love this one. This is my I bought this.
- 22:57Speaker 2: I bought this when F one was what was coming
- 23:02Speaker 2: here because I saw Richard mill was a was a
- 23:05Speaker 2: sponsor for one. Yeah, I didn't know much about one.
- 23:07Speaker 5: I watched.
- 23:08Speaker 2: I watched the series on Netflix. Enjoyed that. Yeah, And
- 23:12Speaker 2: I was never a watch guy. So I had a
- 23:14Speaker 2: couple of watches, and uh, and Nicole and I were
- 23:17Speaker 2: talking and that I'm gonna go buy a watch. So
- 23:19Speaker 2: you're a watch guy. Now this is this. I love
- 23:22Speaker 2: this little sixty seven. It's comfortable. Now it's my daily watch.
- 23:25Speaker 4: I love it.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Nice. Yeah, thank you for doing this. Thank you guys, Thank you.
- 23:29Speaker 1: All right, Hey guys, bringing a couple more friends. Chris
- 23:33Speaker 1: de bart FeliCa, Jeff Schwartz, my co host on Fox
- 23:36Speaker 1: Sports Radio, and guys, what are you doing here? I'm
- 23:42Speaker 1: so happy that Jeff's wife let him come out.
- 23:44Speaker 3: You know, a lot of pressure on this. Many times
- 23:48Speaker 3: she's texted me what's he doing?
- 23:50Speaker 4: What?
- 23:50Speaker 2: You know?
- 23:51Speaker 3: What?
- 23:52Speaker 2: Why is there more money out the bank account?
- 23:53Speaker 5: Going yeah, exactly, I never can't.
- 23:55Speaker 7: Why is it always coming out and not coming in?
- 23:57Speaker 2: She actually asked me that last week. She goes, you
- 24:00Speaker 2: you always put money? Give me I just look, I
- 24:02Speaker 2: just spend it.
- 24:02Speaker 3: You know, I never asked you this, Jeff.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Now, before you played eight years in the NFL, were
- 24:06Speaker 1: you with your wife then?
- 24:07Speaker 3: Were you?
- 24:08Speaker 8: I met her when I first got in the NFL,
- 24:10Speaker 8: when you first got there, so like she knows me.
- 24:12Speaker 8: Like we had nothing when I was a practice squad player,
- 24:14Speaker 8: much less money. She was a medical assistant. And obviously
- 24:18Speaker 8: I'm where i'm and she's now executive bosketball.
- 24:20Speaker 3: So you still got it working. She's that's great. I'm
- 24:23Speaker 3: so glad you gotta work.
- 24:24Speaker 8: One of it is is that she has to work,
- 24:27Speaker 8: otherwise I don't know what you could do all day.
- 24:29Speaker 5: She's like a type A like, I don't know what she.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Would do with her life.
- 24:31Speaker 1: She comes out here to this electric daisy thing ec ADC.
- 24:35Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, so it's partying, going crazy, yeah.
- 24:39Speaker 8: And then she'll handle higher ing twenty docars.
- 24:42Speaker 1: In the mouth.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Someone's sharing what happened.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Someone's sharing for the dodgersatani at home run. So guys,
- 24:48Speaker 1: you know we're talking about anti Dodgers things.
- 24:51Speaker 3: The Dodgers have lost five in a row. Yep, five
- 24:53Speaker 3: in a row.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I think the fifteen and thirteen, so they get that
- 24:56Speaker 1: they get the big trade. And on Sunday, I think
- 24:58Speaker 1: the Saturday Sunday Saturday Night and everyone's back. We interviewed
- 25:04Speaker 1: the director of risk of bet MGM, and he's everyone's
- 25:07Speaker 1: firing Dodgers, super Bowl, Dodgers World Series, Dodgers players, Dodgers.
- 25:10Speaker 5: And at that point, you're too late.
- 25:12Speaker 3: It's too late.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Everyone has adjusted. I made a video on it Sunday
- 25:16Speaker 1: and uh, yeah, listen. Are they the favorites? Yes, should
- 25:20Speaker 1: they get there? Absolutely? Should they win the World Series? Oh,
- 25:23Speaker 1: they have the talent too, but I'm not betting with
- 25:26Speaker 1: the current odds.
- 25:27Speaker 7: Looking last year they went out one out away from losing.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Yeah, arguably should have lost.
- 25:34Speaker 7: Went and two years ago against San Diego, they're throwing
- 25:38Speaker 7: a bullpen game for survival in the first ground and
- 25:41Speaker 7: they wanted while they have the best team, it's baseball.
- 25:44Speaker 7: It's so land of anything like like they couldn't run
- 25:48Speaker 7: into NS twice another five years lose like as possible.
- 25:53Speaker 1: So you guys, do you guys come to hear it
- 25:55Speaker 1: to town for bet Bash every year or just you're
- 25:58Speaker 1: doing your podcast.
- 25:59Speaker 7: This is the first all right, we Spanky, we reached
- 26:02Speaker 7: out and invited us to do it this year, which
- 26:03Speaker 7: you're happy to do it. It's great to come out
- 26:05Speaker 7: here and see everybody say it.
- 26:07Speaker 3: We'll do aren't theat Yes? Aren't that people?
- 26:10Speaker 7: That's the thing people about And not to name other
- 26:15Speaker 7: names or remembering the past, how the super Book.
- 26:18Speaker 5: Used to do, like the symposiums and the panels.
- 26:21Speaker 7: Yeah, used to love to come out every year and
- 26:23Speaker 7: do them, meet a bunch of people. They were great
- 26:26Speaker 7: and I've missed that so much. And this is an option.
- 26:29Speaker 5: It's kind of the same type of app.
- 26:30Speaker 7: You're on Fox now, yes?
- 26:32Speaker 2: Right?
- 26:32Speaker 3: And now do you do Fox every weekend?
- 26:35Speaker 2: Friday?
- 26:35Speaker 3: Is it every day?
- 26:36Speaker 7: Your weekend big noon kickoff wherever wherever the show is
- 26:39Speaker 7: from catching noon on on on Fox before that noon
- 26:42Speaker 7: game and then we do the bare Bets show three
- 26:44Speaker 7: times a week.
- 26:45Speaker 5: We do one Monday to is that you guys together.
- 26:47Speaker 7: It's myself, Jeff, Sammy, p Will.
- 26:49Speaker 3: Hill and every night okay, good guy who's.
- 26:51Speaker 7: Settling on Friday? So yeah, Monday Thursday in New York
- 26:56Speaker 7: we do. We do the Thursday show in New York. Yes, Monday,
- 26:58Speaker 7: we fell from Home Friday with them from sight with
- 27:01Speaker 7: myself in Blue Stelping.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Nice you fly to there.
- 27:05Speaker 8: I play the ook every week, so we do this
- 27:06Speaker 8: report Thursday, I come home.
- 27:09Speaker 2: He then goes off to wherever he goes for.
- 27:10Speaker 8: Can you take off with got until probably Midgejanuary?
- 27:14Speaker 4: Really right?
- 27:15Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, until he was over.
- 27:16Speaker 1: So my big question, the reason why I wanted that
- 27:18Speaker 1: he's on. Do either you or if you participate in
- 27:21Speaker 1: Survivor or Millions?
- 27:23Speaker 3: Yes?
- 27:23Speaker 5: And yes?
- 27:24Speaker 7: Oh okay, I yeah, I just entered a couple of
- 27:26Speaker 7: Survivor and I had not entered Millions for a while,
- 27:31Speaker 7: just because I felt like I was kind of dead money.
- 27:33Speaker 7: But I was like, you know what, why didn't I
- 27:35Speaker 7: take one less Survivor and now went through a millions.
- 27:38Speaker 3: We'll be a little bit of an overlap.
- 27:40Speaker 7: We're going to be a little bit over and over lady,
- 27:42Speaker 7: and maybe we get a season in the NFL where
- 27:45Speaker 7: it kind of reverts back to what it had been
- 27:48Speaker 7: in the past, where it's a little more contrarian and
- 27:50Speaker 7: isn't necessarily favorite covering into ridiculous flip every week.
- 27:54Speaker 5: So if it's that, you get that, and then they're.
- 27:56Speaker 7: Always alive for either a booby prize or a quarterly
- 27:59Speaker 7: or opportunity is going in.
- 28:01Speaker 5: I don't. I don't want to press any buttons and
- 28:03Speaker 5: get sure.
- 28:04Speaker 7: Sure, but I while I love Survivor, I love it.
- 28:08Speaker 5: It's great. Do you get the Saints?
- 28:10Speaker 7: Maybe Survivor now with a little bit more of a
- 28:13Speaker 7: bank roll type tournament, with a little bit of the
- 28:16Speaker 7: poker bros.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Derek just said something I never even realized people that
- 28:19Speaker 1: Survivor you're doing bad, and you say to yourself, if
- 28:23Speaker 1: I'm doing not doing good, forget about. They don't realize
- 28:26Speaker 1: there's contest within the contest and there's some value there
- 28:28Speaker 1: maybe towards the end, people not putting in that quarterly thing.
- 28:31Speaker 1: So yeah, it should be great. So I just wanted
- 28:35Speaker 1: to get a couple of minutes with you guys. And
- 28:36Speaker 1: you guys are doing your podcast today. You're flying out, Yes,
- 28:39Speaker 1: you're flying back out Thursday. Good good, well, good, Thanks
- 28:43Speaker 1: for coming on, guys.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Thanks, thanks, thanks.
- 28:45Speaker 5: Don't even get asked for a pick.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Oh you want to give us a pick? We want
- 28:48Speaker 3: to pick. Give it. Get the guys some place.
- 28:51Speaker 7: I played Georgia up plus two eighty to win the
- 28:53Speaker 7: SEC might be able to find a better.
- 28:54Speaker 5: Brights Okay, I think they're good. Did I say Rescue station?
- 28:57Speaker 5: He said, we like Miami when they like to it's
- 29:00Speaker 5: the same time.
- 29:01Speaker 7: It's the same type of philosophy, but you're getting a
- 29:03Speaker 7: better price because I think there's a really good change.
- 29:06Speaker 7: Georgia might be the only SEC team to win ten games.
- 29:09Speaker 7: They're gonna be in the SEC Championship game. And if
- 29:12Speaker 7: they're there, you got him a plus two eighty.
- 29:14Speaker 5: You're either gonna be a small favorite or a pick them.
- 29:17Speaker 5: You can figure out what to do.
- 29:18Speaker 7: And it's the same thing with Miami and Texas Tech
- 29:20Speaker 7: and the AC team and Big twelve. They're gonna be
- 29:22Speaker 7: in the game, and there'll be an even bigger favorite.
- 29:25Speaker 7: So you offered up a little bit more of an
- 29:27Speaker 7: opportunity maybe to kind.
- 29:28Speaker 5: Of tend you.
- 29:29Speaker 3: I'm sure you know this.
- 29:30Speaker 1: I'm doing uh Fox Sports radio four years now with
- 29:33Speaker 1: Jeff Sports of my coast, and it took him two
- 29:37Speaker 1: years to tell me he bets Parlays by accident.
- 29:39Speaker 3: I hear him in the background saying, I said, well,
- 29:42Speaker 3: what would you just say, do one a week? He
- 29:44Speaker 3: never told me this. He's firing on the bank Parlays.
- 29:49Speaker 8: I take Mendeth for every week too, Okay, So to
- 29:51Speaker 8: be fair, you know, like tail each other. I like
- 29:54Speaker 8: to do one one college a week, maybe one NFL
- 29:57Speaker 8: a week.
- 29:58Speaker 5: That's it.
- 29:58Speaker 7: I'm not going to in your long fairness in his defense,
- 30:02Speaker 7: and it's a lot of we maybe find some people
- 30:05Speaker 7: that might not be the sharpest knives against.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Yes, yes, we found, we found. We don't worry. We
- 30:11Speaker 3: found some people to bet against.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:13Speaker 7: Now if you tell me he's teasing college football though,
- 30:17Speaker 7: then we got a problem.
- 30:18Speaker 3: Okay, no college yeah, no season college football. I'm just
- 30:22Speaker 3: busting balls.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Listen.
- 30:23Speaker 3: I know everyone, but I said, listen, I have waived
- 30:26Speaker 3: a white towe.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Youbout one hundred dollars on straight bat, you get bet
- 30:28Speaker 1: five bucks in a parlor, you send him ten dollars
- 30:30Speaker 1: every week.
- 30:31Speaker 8: I'm just like what, I know you love this buddy.
- 30:33Speaker 8: But okay, So not to give any ward doing today.
- 30:36Speaker 8: But I like like NC State over this season.
- 30:39Speaker 2: C J.
- 30:39Speaker 8: Bailey's really good as a quarterback. All Dave dorm does
- 30:42Speaker 8: is win and the team is better this season. And
- 30:43Speaker 8: their schedule he se, no Miami, no SMU, no thumbs
- 30:46Speaker 8: in who we got home and they get the other
- 30:49Speaker 8: juke at home as well.
- 30:50Speaker 7: I like Michigan State under they're gonna just be bad.
- 30:53Speaker 8: I was at Big to Me to Day last week
- 30:55Speaker 8: talking to Pat Fitzgerald. He's a disadvantage. Wasn't to Northwestern.
- 30:58Speaker 8: Remember he was four and twentylast years in Northwestern. He
- 31:01Speaker 8: sat out a couple of years. He got this job
- 31:03Speaker 8: and when when could you get new jobs? They bring
- 31:05Speaker 8: their own players in, right, Like Matt Campbell went to
- 31:08Speaker 8: Penn State. He brought in twenty three Iowa State players.
- 31:10Speaker 8: Half a show brought in zero players. He doesn't have
- 31:12Speaker 8: a team to bring in with them, so he's starting
- 31:15Speaker 8: brand new.
- 31:15Speaker 5: Bob Chas, you see a license thing brand new.
- 31:17Speaker 8: So I think the play for them for Michigan's day.
- 31:20Speaker 5: I took Miami a Taxa Tech as well. It just
- 31:23Speaker 5: makes sense.
- 31:24Speaker 8: Like I tried to fade Texas Tuck the season, but
- 31:26Speaker 8: their schedule can't. You can't with their schedule like they're
- 31:28Speaker 8: just colle football. A lot of times comes down to
- 31:32Speaker 8: if you have more players than the team you're playing,
- 31:34Speaker 8: you have better players. We're seeing less upstts at the
- 31:37Speaker 8: top of college hoopball.
- 31:38Speaker 5: I think now.
- 31:38Speaker 8: Because of that, Texas Tech just has better players for
- 31:41Speaker 8: the rest of the Big Twelve, and they missed the
- 31:43Speaker 8: other teams that could possibly compete with them on a
- 31:46Speaker 8: Saturday basis.
- 31:47Speaker 2: So I think, know it's made a lot of sense.
- 31:48Speaker 1: I got Jeff goes to that, he talks to the coaches,
- 31:50Speaker 1: talks to the camp.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Yeah, oh, did you go to Carolina?
- 31:52Speaker 2: Did you go to the I went to Panthers.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Pantherste what do you got first? For the game?
- 31:56Speaker 2: They well, look, so they're playing.
- 31:58Speaker 8: They're not gonna play the starters obviously, and there's rumors
- 32:02Speaker 8: they're going to play Uh well Hayes King for a while.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Okay, I'm not sure King can.
- 32:06Speaker 5: Throw the ball yet. So I was gonna say, what
- 32:08Speaker 5: what is that?
- 32:09Speaker 7: That?
- 32:09Speaker 5: That's an under?
- 32:10Speaker 2: Probably playing right, you would.
- 32:11Speaker 3: Think thirty five and a half.
- 32:12Speaker 2: I think everyone taking under.
- 32:13Speaker 8: In the first in the first hall of Indian and
- 32:14Speaker 8: that's what everyone does, right, they just met the under.
- 32:16Speaker 1: But you think it would be adjusted then, and the
- 32:18Speaker 1: books know it too, having the guns right.
- 32:20Speaker 5: So you get a lot of coursing back for Arizona.
- 32:22Speaker 5: You'll get you.
- 32:23Speaker 3: I heard, I see. I heard that that's the reason
- 32:25Speaker 3: why the line moved back.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Yeah a little, so I saw.
- 32:27Speaker 4: I will not.
- 32:27Speaker 8: I don't know who had this this joke on Twitter,
- 32:29Speaker 8: but Carson Beck might throw the last pass in college
- 32:32Speaker 8: football in the first past the NFL Wow, which is
- 32:35Speaker 8: probably never been done before.
- 32:36Speaker 1: But listen, watch watch these guys. They got some good information.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Watch their shows too.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Uh.
- 32:41Speaker 1: We appreciate it, guys, appreciate having there's some picks there. Hey, guys,
- 32:44Speaker 1: welcome back to Wise Cracks. Real excited over here at
- 32:47Speaker 1: the circa betfash in town.
- 32:49Speaker 3: Lots of people.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Coming by that the sanitizer out.
- 32:54Speaker 3: John's a jerremphobe. I'm trying to people are coming up
- 32:57Speaker 3: to him like crazy.
- 32:58Speaker 1: And our h one of our producers, our regular producers
- 33:02Speaker 1: not here today. We have Tom today and uh, Tom
- 33:06Speaker 1: and Gil Alexander both look like they're right out of
- 33:08Speaker 1: the seventies porn like all right with that the hand
- 33:11Speaker 1: hand and Gil has the porn glasses.
- 33:13Speaker 3: I mean they would.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Yeah quality, yeah, all right.
- 33:17Speaker 1: So we have of course John Orlando Travis Geiger here today,
- 33:22Speaker 1: one of the Wager Wire founders, one of them, right,
- 33:25Speaker 1: this couple of guys, are you the.
- 33:26Speaker 6: Guy me and my two best friends from u c
- 33:29Speaker 6: l A wow.
- 33:30Speaker 4: When he's like the leader, you know, you're just you're
- 33:32Speaker 4: putting him on the spot.
- 33:33Speaker 1: I don't want to say not, you're going to watch
- 33:36Speaker 1: this He's yeah, no, well he's got family money.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Oh, big, big money.
- 33:42Speaker 9: Harder, and everything's harder, you know, Like that's why I
- 33:47Speaker 9: love it.
- 33:48Speaker 6: That's why I love this show.
- 33:49Speaker 2: That's why we're here.
- 33:49Speaker 3: So I'll tell you why.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Like we were saying, you know, should I get some questions, No,
- 33:53Speaker 1: we do think spontaneously here at Travis.
- 33:55Speaker 3: So I want.
- 33:56Speaker 1: People to know a little bit because I am obviously
- 34:02Speaker 1: you guys know, everyone knows I'm against parlays. If people
- 34:05Speaker 1: are parlays, they make up sixty to seventy percent of
- 34:08Speaker 1: the sports books profit. So of course I'm looking to
- 34:11Speaker 1: help the public don't bet parlays. But it doesn't matter
- 34:14Speaker 1: whatever I say, it's still gonna bet parlays. And I
- 34:19Speaker 1: am really literally have waved a white towel, white handkerchief
- 34:23Speaker 1: because I say, listen, all right, you're gonna bet him anyway.
- 34:26Speaker 3: I have.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Like my co host on Fox, Jeff Schwartz, NFL player,
- 34:31Speaker 1: it took him like years to admit that he bets
- 34:34Speaker 1: parlays because he knows I'm against him. And I said,
- 34:36Speaker 1: all right, Jeff, you could bet them, go ahead, you
- 34:39Speaker 1: want to. I'm gonna give you some good plays a
- 34:41Speaker 1: preseason football, great moves, but yet you still want to
- 34:44Speaker 1: bet parlays with this stuff.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Bet ten percent of what you bet on a bets.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Have you bet one hundred dollars on a straight bet
- 34:50Speaker 1: goad you want to get five or ten dollars on
- 34:52Speaker 1: a five teamer.
- 34:53Speaker 3: I'm not doing it, but if you're gonna do it anyway.
- 34:55Speaker 1: So your company's based on parlay betters coming to you
- 35:01Speaker 1: trying to maybe hedge after they win a leg or two.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Am I correct?
- 35:06Speaker 9: So actually, what our company is based on is letting
- 35:09Speaker 9: people get in and out of their positions. So oftentimes
- 35:12Speaker 9: the most lucrative is when you're a couple eggs.
- 35:14Speaker 6: In, but it can be futures, it can even be
- 35:15Speaker 6: same game.
- 35:16Speaker 9: And that's why five years ago when we started a
- 35:18Speaker 9: wage to wire before prediction markets, what we were doing
- 35:21Speaker 9: was we were addressing I think the problems that you
- 35:23Speaker 9: have with parlayers, which is that the house is taking
- 35:26Speaker 9: an incredibly big cut that actually it's a losing proposition
- 35:31Speaker 9: that you're probably going to get three out of the
- 35:32Speaker 9: four every single time.
- 35:33Speaker 6: So what we wanted to do is give people an out.
- 35:35Speaker 9: And then what prediction markets do, which we can get into,
- 35:38Speaker 9: is it really takes away that that house cut as much.
- 35:41Speaker 6: Now there still is a house.
- 35:42Speaker 9: It's people on the other side, sometimes institutions, but we're
- 35:45Speaker 9: not dealing with a guaranteed sixty percent haircut on the
- 35:49Speaker 9: value of the thing. So to your point, what we
- 35:52Speaker 9: really wanted to do was create a stub hub or
- 35:54Speaker 9: an eBay for sports bets where you could sell your
- 35:56Speaker 9: position after you place it at the window. And the
- 36:00Speaker 9: most lucrative bets for people were parlays in progress. The
- 36:04Speaker 9: way that we got into prediction markets, which we can
- 36:06Speaker 9: talk about, Uh, you know, if you guys want to,
- 36:09Speaker 9: is that are our savviest market makers call it. We're
- 36:13Speaker 9: taking Dodgers last leg yes on a vet, let's call
- 36:17Speaker 9: it at CIRCA and then taking Dodgers no on Calshi
- 36:21Speaker 9: and locking in that ev And so what we wanted
- 36:23Speaker 9: to do was just give the power back to the betters.
- 36:26Speaker 6: We don't want to be part of this toxic cycle
- 36:27Speaker 6: of parlays. We just want to be positional.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Wunny you say that.
- 36:30Speaker 1: So yesterday someone texts me from Calshe I don't know,
- 36:34Speaker 1: but yeah, he said, I managed trade relationships at Calshie.
- 36:39Speaker 1: I would imagine there are ways we can benefit one
- 36:41Speaker 1: of another. For a phone call today, I didn't call
- 36:43Speaker 1: them Stu, all right, see your name's Stu. I live
- 36:48Speaker 1: in Nevada. Calchie is illegal here.
- 36:51Speaker 3: We can't. We can't use.
- 36:52Speaker 6: Calcie unless you're filming a Netflix doc.
- 36:54Speaker 3: Yeah, no, we can't.
- 36:56Speaker 1: So, yeah, it would be a market maker. Would would
- 37:01Speaker 1: not be applicable here in Nevada. We don't have those.
- 37:04Speaker 1: But we don't have them here. We have a real
- 37:06Speaker 1: strong gaming commission. They're keeping everyone out.
- 37:10Speaker 6: They can shout out Becky Harris.
- 37:12Speaker 3: Oh really, she's a friend.
- 37:14Speaker 6: Okay, but I know Nevada, so I'm actually interested in this.
- 37:16Speaker 9: So there was a lot of drama with Calshi and
- 37:20Speaker 9: the Netflix documentary because you cannot play Calhie in Nevada.
- 37:24Speaker 9: One of the things that they did, even when digital
- 37:26Speaker 9: sports Benning came around, you had to deposit into your
- 37:29Speaker 9: app at the window. So as Nevada guys, how do
- 37:33Speaker 9: you feel about Nevada's I don't know if we want
- 37:37Speaker 9: to talk out a turner if that's a crazy.
- 37:39Speaker 3: Question, No, this is crazy.
- 37:41Speaker 1: But this is still like in the movie Casino when
- 37:44Speaker 1: you see the County Commissioner coming and mister Rothstein talking
- 37:47Speaker 1: with him, and he said, mister Rothstein, you'll never know
- 37:50Speaker 1: how it works.
- 37:51Speaker 3: You're all just our guest. And it's still that way here.
- 37:54Speaker 1: They don't want another Cancer Gaming coming in townfing things up.
- 37:59Speaker 3: Can came in.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Here, but they were Levy the biggest fine I think
- 38:03Speaker 1: it was twenty seven and another five thirty two million
- 38:06Speaker 1: in fines against them for a lot of the things
- 38:08Speaker 1: they did wrong. Canter Gaming a spin off of a
- 38:11Speaker 1: division of Canter Fitzgerald. And they just don't want anything
- 38:16Speaker 1: happening here. And let's be blunts. I have Derek Stevens
- 38:20Speaker 1: coming on. We have some very strong individual owners here
- 38:23Speaker 1: in town. Michael Gaughan, Derek Stevens.
- 38:26Speaker 4: Uh.
- 38:26Speaker 1: You know the guy that owns Treasure Island. It's his name,
- 38:29Speaker 1: Treasure Island guy, Jack spar Phil Ruffin, Did you say
- 38:33Speaker 1: Jack Sparrow.
- 38:34Speaker 6: I'm sorry, it's a joke.
- 38:35Speaker 3: Oh oh okay, yeah, I told you said Jack Sparrow.
- 38:37Speaker 3: Say that's not really good.
- 38:39Speaker 2: I do to jokes tot, you know.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Actually I'm proud of the.
- 38:44Speaker 6: Rest of the jokes. Are all cracks die overstep, But we.
- 38:46Speaker 1: And we have very strong gaming companies here also, so
- 38:50Speaker 1: they are they are cracking down on people or new
- 38:54Speaker 1: new new things trying to come in. So tell us
- 38:57Speaker 1: before we get off here, what exactly you offer?
- 39:00Speaker 3: Is it? What's waderwire dot com and the wager wire app? Correct?
- 39:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and you can go on there and you could
- 39:06Speaker 1: see the marketplace.
- 39:07Speaker 3: Am I saying the right word? Yeah?
- 39:09Speaker 9: You know, and for the people that watch your show,
- 39:10Speaker 9: they're probably very familiar, right. And so if you have
- 39:13Speaker 9: a parlay, basically we can help you be cash out right,
- 39:15Speaker 9: because what we are is a peer to peer cash out.
- 39:17Speaker 9: So rather than just take what the book is offering you,
- 39:20Speaker 9: you could name your price what you think is fair
- 39:21Speaker 9: and that's what our calculator does. It helps you find
- 39:23Speaker 9: out what fair value is. We can actually determine the
- 39:26Speaker 9: rip off rate we call it of what the the
- 39:29Speaker 9: additional vig right, and with same game parlay as it's crazy,
- 39:33Speaker 9: it's actually a black pot, we call it. There's a
- 39:34Speaker 9: correlation tax. There's all these correlation taxes. Additional viigs will
- 39:38Speaker 9: help you calculate that. We'll let you know what the
- 39:39Speaker 9: fair value is and then you can post it for sale.
- 39:42Speaker 9: We'll let you know what we think we'll move. We'll
- 39:43Speaker 9: say it's a A B or C, just like a stub hub.
- 39:46Speaker 9: And that's how it started. We wanted to, you know,
- 39:48Speaker 9: bring that what eventually became prediction markets to online sports betting.
- 39:53Speaker 9: Now with predictions, which we're doing not here in the
- 39:56Speaker 9: US but abroad. What we're gonna I can actually announce
- 39:59Speaker 9: it here for the first what we're gonna launch soon
- 40:01Speaker 9: is well, if you submit your screenshot of your VET,
- 40:05Speaker 9: we'll give you a price that we think we can
- 40:07Speaker 9: sell it for and it'll always beat cash out. And
- 40:09Speaker 9: the way that we're gonna do that is our market
- 40:10Speaker 9: makers are going to hedge it on a prediction market.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Oh, I didn't even know what was happening that that asked.
- 40:17Speaker 6: You guys essentially just become the buyers. So we're the
- 40:19Speaker 6: best cash out in town. Don't do it with the.
- 40:21Speaker 3: Book, right, Yeah, we know. Like when then when you
- 40:23Speaker 3: get offered a cash out.
- 40:26Speaker 6: It's obscene.
- 40:27Speaker 3: Some of them are just it's exceeded.
- 40:29Speaker 6: And it's the reason that prediction markets came into power.
- 40:32Speaker 9: I think it is because the books pigs get fat,
- 40:36Speaker 9: hogs get slaughtered.
- 40:37Speaker 6: They weren't willing to just give up that margin.
- 40:40Speaker 9: They had to keep that fat margin, and everyone was
- 40:43Speaker 9: locked into their positions and they had they couldn't even
- 40:46Speaker 9: put up the hedge equity they needed to guarantee their spot.
- 40:49Speaker 6: And these guys were just getting drilled drill, drill, drill, drilled.
- 40:51Speaker 6: Now a couple of guys.
- 40:52Speaker 9: From MIT come in with economics degrees and they say,
- 40:54Speaker 9: forget all that, and that's why the whole industry is
- 40:57Speaker 9: in trouble.
- 40:58Speaker 4: Do you think we'll ever see the day where Calci
- 41:00Speaker 4: or Draft Kings you can make that.
- 41:02Speaker 3: No, maybe not DraftKings. I think Calci has.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Has a little more, has a little more grounds of
- 41:08Speaker 1: step on there. So Draft Kings their offices right here
- 41:11Speaker 1: in town there, they're you know, approving bets right here
- 41:14Speaker 1: in town in Nevada. But yet we don't have a
- 41:16Speaker 1: place to bet them in here.
- 41:18Speaker 3: And as far.
- 41:19Speaker 1: As the DraftKings and these other sites are, they're getting
- 41:22Speaker 1: into the prediction market area.
- 41:24Speaker 9: Now, so they have to they have to because to
- 41:26Speaker 9: protect their No one wants to cash out with them anymore,
- 41:29Speaker 9: right right, And it's like they were I feel like
- 41:32Speaker 9: squeezing the consumer for so long because they were the
- 41:35Speaker 9: only game in town. And I feel like it's the
- 41:36Speaker 9: same toxic attitude.
- 41:37Speaker 2: That got Nevada in trouble.
- 41:38Speaker 9: It's like, we're the only game in town, right, and
- 41:41Speaker 9: so we can do whatever we want. But in the
- 41:43Speaker 9: capitalist society, the customer is always going to be right
- 41:46Speaker 9: on a long enough timeline.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Cool, cool, Well listen, thanks for coming on.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Well, people know a little more else want to questions?
- 41:53Speaker 5: Go ahead?
- 41:53Speaker 6: What do you think about prediction markets? And have you
- 41:56Speaker 6: used one?
- 41:56Speaker 1: No, I haven't lived here, but I'm going to be
- 41:59Speaker 1: travel a little bit more. And no, how can you
- 42:02Speaker 1: bet baseball in when they have twenty cent baseball lines?
- 42:07Speaker 3: Nevada has like fifteen cent lines. Twenty cent lines.
- 42:11Speaker 1: You're laying a dollar fifty, you're coming back a dollar fifteen.
- 42:14Speaker 1: I seen dollar fifteen. I'm used to coming back a
- 42:16Speaker 1: dollar forty. Prediction Marcus, the fair and market value a
- 42:21Speaker 1: dollar forty five on both sides. So literally that's the
- 42:25Speaker 1: fair number minus one forty five, the ask and the
- 42:28Speaker 1: bid one forty four.
- 42:29Speaker 3: Whatever it may be. You have it. And then there's
- 42:31Speaker 3: a you.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Know, of course there's a little bit of a they
- 42:33Speaker 1: have to make money, so let's call it a two
- 42:34Speaker 1: cent line.
- 42:36Speaker 3: He really, it's hard to bet sports.
- 42:40Speaker 1: It was gonna be one of my subjects for today.
- 42:42Speaker 1: It's actually hard to bet sports in Nevada. Imagine me
- 42:46Speaker 1: saying that sports betting capital of the world. It's hard
- 42:49Speaker 1: for me now with super Book closed. I have here Circa,
- 42:54Speaker 1: I have South Point. I have to go in person
- 42:56Speaker 1: at the counter. The app doesn't take as much. I
- 42:59Speaker 1: have the win on the I can't name anywhere else
- 43:02Speaker 1: that I really have that I do have.
- 43:04Speaker 3: Bet MGM.
- 43:05Speaker 1: They're pretty good to me BETMGM because they are a
- 43:07Speaker 1: sponsored one of my shows. I can't bet at Caesar's.
- 43:11Speaker 1: I can't bet you know the boy. The stations that
- 43:14Speaker 1: can go on and on, and places are closing and
- 43:17Speaker 1: closing more and more. There was twenty three places for
- 43:21Speaker 1: me to bet twenty three years ago when I came to town.
- 43:24Speaker 3: Now I have less than five. So I will be
- 43:28Speaker 3: doing some traveling.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Though, just to see how it works during football season,
- 43:32Speaker 1: to see how some of the other I was in
- 43:34Speaker 1: New Jersey, right, I was in New Jersey a lot
- 43:37Speaker 1: until they stopped retail. I FanDuel pulled up retail, and
- 43:40Speaker 1: Atlantic City A lot of the Atlantic City books scared
- 43:44Speaker 1: to death in New Jersey books. So it is cat
- 43:48Speaker 1: and mouse, but I'm hearing there's more things to do,
- 43:52Speaker 1: more places, so we'll see what it's like. And yeah,
- 43:55Speaker 1: wager Wire great, great place to option here to buy
- 43:59Speaker 1: out and get some make some money, guys, so make
- 44:02Speaker 1: sure you check them out.
- 44:04Speaker 9: I would say it's one of the great honors and
- 44:05Speaker 9: privileges of my life.
- 44:06Speaker 6: Dude, be here knowing these guys. We don't know anything.
- 44:09Speaker 9: We're here to learn, but I think we're on the
- 44:11Speaker 9: side of the better, just like you guys.
- 44:12Speaker 6: Yeah, can I ask you guys a question?
- 44:14Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 44:14Speaker 6: Question?
- 44:15Speaker 3: Okay, So sure, got as much time as you want here.
- 44:17Speaker 2: I don't blame you. It is what it is.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Count can't help calm ghead.
- 44:25Speaker 9: Okay, So you were at Superbook for a really long time, right,
- 44:28Speaker 9: and Westgate was like as luck to there, right, and
- 44:31Speaker 9: there's very few originators. Right of lines, we're at another one.
- 44:35Speaker 9: So Caesar's takes over Westgate. How does that change super Book?
- 44:40Speaker 9: And how does that and how did you end up here?
- 44:43Speaker 2: Now?
- 44:43Speaker 1: Well you have to ask them. I don't know how
- 44:45Speaker 1: it changes super Book. They have Kiosk there. I'm told
- 44:48Speaker 1: Caesar's just taking over the sports betting there.
- 44:50Speaker 6: So they just won't let you bet well, Caesars.
- 44:53Speaker 3: I'm not the bet sea.
- 44:53Speaker 1: You know, I can bet at the counter, I just
- 44:55Speaker 1: can't bet on the app. So I come, sure, I
- 44:57Speaker 1: can go in there and bet, but I just can't
- 44:58Speaker 1: bet on the app, which is more easy for me.
- 45:01Speaker 1: But I think the Super Contest is still a big
- 45:03Speaker 1: part of that, and they're but you know, they'll never
- 45:07Speaker 1: be as big as Circle with no Rake and you know,
- 45:09Speaker 1: the giant.
- 45:11Speaker 3: You know they have a survivor here.
- 45:12Speaker 1: It's like the biggest thing that shows on it is
- 45:15Speaker 1: media coverage. But I think that's why Caesar's bought super
- 45:19Speaker 1: Book for that super Contest, in my opinion, and eventually
- 45:22Speaker 1: probably wanted to go nationwide, just like Circle will have
- 45:25Speaker 1: to go. I have a question for Derek today about
- 45:27Speaker 1: maybe getting more of a broad Well, I shouldn't say
- 45:32Speaker 1: that it would have to be with all that sports
- 45:35Speaker 1: Book is though. I think Circus in a few different states,
- 45:38Speaker 1: so Caesar's it seems like they're everywhere. They didn't care
- 45:41Speaker 1: about losing money, they cared about branding, so they're everywhere.
- 45:44Speaker 2: Circus in three or four states.
- 45:46Speaker 1: And eventually I think they'll have a crossover of their
- 45:50Speaker 1: traffic to get into these contests may get giant, so
- 45:54Speaker 1: we'll see what we'll see what's gonna happen.
- 45:56Speaker 9: And no matter what state you're in, whether it's super
- 45:58Speaker 9: book or circa, and you have a vibor entry, you
- 46:00Speaker 9: can sell it on wager Wire will help you price sat.
- 46:02Speaker 3: There you go. You guys have legal one every state. Yeah, yeah, okay, good,
- 46:05Speaker 3: there you go. You learn something new every day. All right,
- 46:07Speaker 3: now you get done.
- 46:11Speaker 9: Whoa, whoa, Hey, we're going to lunch lady though, right,
- 46:14Speaker 9: all right, all right, a good deal
